6. What I’ve learned:
• I learned the importance of appealing to a wider audience, as a school magazine
has an extremely niche audience, where a music magazine can have national or
even international sales which greatly surpass those of a school magazine.
• I learned the importance of appealing to an audience and how to attract readers
to a magazine in the forms of Mode of Address and interactivity.
• I learned the crucial role social media now plays in the magazine industry, with
many having websites as well as printed magazines.
• I learned how to position a camera and take the best photographs for my article to
look authentic.
• I learned the conventions of a music magazine.
• I learned how to manipulate my photos using Photoshop by editing the contrast
and brightness to alter the way my model looks.
• I learned about the different theories surrounding magazines: Used and
Gratifications, Marjorie Ferguson and Naomi Wolf.
7. • I learned that using a style model whilst creating my magazine was a great way to monitor how
effective and authentic my magazine is looking.
• I learned how to utilise my colour palette and the range of colours that are suitable for the
magazine, so it wasn’t overly coloured.
• I learned that I needed to keep a house style running throughout y magazine, using the same
colours, and limiting the colour palette in order to keep the work all looking like it is from the
same magazine.
• I learned different ways to present my work and put it onto my blog.
• I learned how vital audience research is to creating a magazine, and how the audience is
extremely important to the survival of the magazine.
• I learned about the music magazine industry and some publishers of the magazines and how the
market is shared.
• I learned how to correctly set out and write a magazine article, this was done by reading articles
myself, as well as looking at the conventions of them, but reading them, and seeing how they are
worded was the most important aspect to writing a successful article myself.
• I learned how to manage my time efficiently, making sure both my product and my research
were complete, and not allowing myself to lack in either part of the project.
• I have learned how to work independently to a specific deadline, making myself a more
independent learner in comparison to the beginning of the project.
10. Summary
Shown by the side by side comparissons, my
skills in all areas have improved since the
creation of my preliminary task, and I have
learned a lot of new skills since the beginning of
the project.
