Digipak and Advert Draft – Teacher Feedback
Digipak – 5/10
Advert – 5/10
Overall
“Good Ideas, need to be stronger”
“A bit messy”
“A lot going on”
“needs more structure”
Digipak DRAFT – Audience Feedback.
After receiving audience from both my audience and teachers, I came to the
conclusion to make a totally new digipak. I still incorporated the ideas of overlaying
colours on top of images however instead of applying the effect over all of the digipak
I decided to change this and apply it to individual images.
I also changed the colour scheme of my digipak completely, and went for a more basic
main colour scheme, with pops of colours coming from the different coloured overlay
effects I chose for each individual image. I believe this worked better than just using
one set colour scheme for the colour overlay as it brought individuality to each photo
and hence made them stand out by themselves, which I believe is vital as each band
member has their own personality and therefore each colour overlay represents their
individuality.
Instead of using one image as the background on my cover I decided to eliminate this
as I felt it made my digipak look to busy and crowded therefore I looked for further
inspiration and found a HAIM cover I liked and used inspiration from that for my
layout which involved three smaller images in the centre of the cover.
Therefore from my digipak feedback I learnt that the audience liked the idea of the
colour overlay as an effect on images used and hence keeping that idea in my final
digipak however the layout did not work as text covered the picture initially and
hence it needed to be changed and a better and more conventional structure was
needed and so this inspired me to go for a more simpler layout than before,
avoiding the ‘busy’ look.
Advert DRAFT – Audience feedback.
My advert in essence was basically the cover of my digipak, therefore, although a link
between the media products was created- which is important to have, it lacked a sense of
originality.
Comments about how “busy” my media product looked where again used to describe my
Advert. Therefore I came to the conclusion of starting again and creating a much simpler
advert. I went followed the theme of my Digipak and creed several adverts that could be
used besides my digipak, all of which held a sense of originality compared to my digipak -
which my advert was lacking before however there as still a key relationship between the
two- which my feedback identified as being strong previously therefore I ensured I kept it.
Feedback was given on the text used on my draft digipak stating it was too big and covered
the image, as it did on my digipak. Therefore when re-designing my advert I ensured no
images were covered and instead isolated each line of text which I thought added emphases
to the advert which now looking back at my draft advert I think lacked before.
Feedback was also received on the idea that tesla appeared to be in a lighter font to Eyes
Above. I therefore kept this idea on board as it seemed to work however I ensured it was not
to big and was not the main attraction.
Overall I learnt that my draft advert again was far to busy and text was too big, therefore
when re-designing I ensured everything as spaced out perfectly and nothing covered the
images used. I also made sure large text was not unnecessarily used but used for
emphasises – e.g. on OUT NOW.
I believe from taking on board the feedback received about my draft
digipak and advert I learnt about things that worked and did not work
overall. By learning these traits I managed to create a much more
effective and successful media products; digipak and advert. By
learning and acting on my feedback to create new media products it is
shown that listening to the feedback is important due to it improving
my marks significantly.
Music Video- 25 word pitch
From the feedback we received after presenting our pitch on our hopeful
music video, it raised a lot of questions and I learnt by identifying the
answers to these questions we would have a more solid idea on our
potential music video. This feedback also helped us develop ideas and move
along the process of producing our music video and hence we learnt what
some potential next steps should be in the process, i.e. choosing locations.
Questions on deciding whether our video would be narrative or performance
based were rose and hence this taught us to decide on which our video
would be and hence helped us in the progression of our task at hand.
Another question on where the location was brought up and so we started
looking at potential locations for filming; we went on to find a studio in
Leicester and different interesting locations we could potentially use, e.g.
Highcross top floor car park.
By receiving a lot of positive feedback from our pitch it gave us a lot of
confidence and we learnt to take more risks in what we believe in as our
ideas seemed to be liked.
Music Video - Animatic/Storyboard Feedback
After creating our storyboard animatic we presented it and gathered feedback.
The feedback received was strong and positive generally. However one area that
was brought up several times was the clips featuring a car. Feedback received
about these clips, queried the idea and asked if it would be successful and be
able to be done without looking cheap. Another thing that was brought up in
feedback was some of the outside locations being used, they were thought to be
unrealistic – originally having the idea to film in London, therefore these
locations were replaced and new realistic ones were found.
Therefore after receiving this feedback on these shots they were eliminated
completely and replaced by shots in the studio. We therefore learnt from this
feedback what to avoid if we did not want out video looking unprofessional
and extremely cheap. We also learnt to be realistic in our filming locations and
what we could afford to do in the time and money we had.
Music Video - VERBAL
• 'need more shots - quicker- tempo of song is fast'
• 'more dancing shots- quick moving'
• told to look at 'heartwood house media music video for inspiration of
quick shots
• 'get rid of fountain shots'
• 'use more car park shots- lighting is good'
• 'moving (both camera and members' looks good'
• 'dancing shots too long - add clips in the middle of them‘
• ‘need more singing shots’
When finally getting to the point of putting our music video together we
received a lot of feedback throughout the process. From this feedback
we learnt, again, what was working and what was not. We also learnt
about things we should try and be inspired by, i.e. Being told to Watch
Hertwood house media product. This taught us a great deal on how to
match shots to a quick tempo from a song, which ours had.
A lot was changed during the process of making our final music video based on
feedback given. We received a lot of verbal feedback throughout the process
which I feel we learnt from immensely to ensure our music video worked
effectively and successfully in the eyes of our audience.
One of the main things we needed to work on was how quick the shots were
edited in. Many people thought they were cutting to slowly and hence we
added more and more in until we thought the video clips cut effectively to
match the songs tempo. From this feedback we learnt that to make our video
work, effective and look good it was essential that the same shot was not used
for too long, we therefore kept watching the video over and over and kept
getting further opinion to ensure no clip was significantly long.
Another thing we learnt from our feedback was that some shots just did not
work due to many reasons and hence we removed them and found
replacements which were much more popular with the audience and received
better feedback. Hence from this feedback we learnt if shots were successful or
not and if not if they could be edited to work or just needed to be removed
completely.

We received a lot of verbal feedback throughout the process which I feel we learnt from immensely to ensure our music video worked effectively and successfully in the eyes of our audience. One of the main things we needed to work on was how quick the shots were edited in. Many people thought they were cutting to slowly and hence we added more and more in until we thought the video clips cut effectively to match the songs tempo. From this feedback we learnt that to make our video work, effective and look good it was essential that the same shot was not used for too long, we therefore kept watching the video over and over and kept getting further opinion to ensure no clip was significantly long. Another thing we learnt from our feedback was that some shots just did not work due to many reasons and hence we removed them and found replacements which were much more popular with the audience and received better feedback. Hence from this feedback we learnt if shots were successful or not and if not if they could be edited to work or just needed to be removed completely.
