This document provides an evaluation of a media product by Amy Ryan. It summarizes the use of locations, costumes, camera techniques, and editing in the production. Audience feedback was gathered through a focus group and questionnaire. Photoshop was used to create ancillary materials like posters and album covers. Premiere Pro was used to edit video footage and add music. Websites like Dafont, Blogger and YouTube provided resources and platforms for sharing work during the planning, creation and feedback stages of the project.
2. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP AND
CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF A REAL MEDIA
PRODUCT?
3. LOCATION
In this we have decided to use a
range of locations that the
audience themselves can relate
to , I think this is important as it
challenges products today as
products in this genre usually
are set on beaches or in big
mansions. Therefore by having
this set in a teenage boys home
and college allows the audience
to relate to the protagonist and
it also adds to the comedic
value.
4. COSTUMES&PROPS
Due to the video being set
through one day we did
not need a costume
change for the new
character. We decided
that this costume itself
should be an average
teenage boy costume as
to fit in with the storyline ,
he is an average boy it is
just his dancing that
should make him stand
out not his clothing. We
also had to use other
costumes for this video,
for example the nurses
outfit which was hard to
find.
5. CAMERA ANGLES &MISE EN SCENE
Due to the song being quite
up-tempo and lively we felt
it was essential for all of the
editing techniques and
change of scenes to be quite
fast paced . We also felt this
with the dancing and
movement in the video. We
felt this was necessary as it
would then fit into the beat
and the style of the video.
We did this by using many
cross cuts and dissolves so
that they all fit together
nicely and in the style of the
video.
6. CONTINUED
It was very important that all of
these features used fit in with
the genre of the music and the
video whilst creating this. I
believe this video would be
classed as a dance/ comedy as
it follows the story of a comedy
student who wakes up in the
morning, cannot stop dancing,
therefore gets hi into awkward
situations. I think this fits well
with the song itself as it is a fun
and light-hearted song and it
also fits well with the repeated
lyrics ‘every day I'm shuffling’
7. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION
OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCTS AND
ANCILLARY TEXTS ?
8. ALBUM COVER
For these ancillary tasks I believe that it was
essential for all of these documents to follow a
similar house style. I believe this is a good thing
as it allows them to be easily recognised when
seen. I also think this is a good idea as then the
artist itself is associated with this theme,
therefore they must be appropriate and work
together well . I believe that the use of the
leopard print background and the bold unique
fonts gives the idea fun and exciting genre which
does not take itself too seriously. This fits in well
with the video as the video itself is a comedy.
I also believe that I have added many key
features too these giving them more of a
professional look. For example the parental
advisory logo , the website , barcode and the
record labels details.
9. POSTER
I believe that again I have here used
many typical conventions of an album
advertisements as I have all the release
date and album information and places
where it can be bought. I also believe
that this poster fits in well with my
overall project as again looking at the
picture the artist is pulling a comedic
pose and again it does not look too
intense therefore fits into the genre of
the light hearted comedy.
I also believe that colour plays a great
role in this as they are all very bright
and colourful , therefore I believe that
this would make a good advertisement
or insert as it would grab the attention
of the audience.
11. FOCUS GROUP
When making this focus group I believe
it was essential for all of the questions
to be open as I could get a better more
opinionated idea of what the targeted
audience would like to see from the
video. I also believe that It was a good I
dea to give examples in this as I was
able to show them a video (katy Perry)
and find out what they did and did not
like about it, for example some results
were that they believe that the
introduction to the video was too long.
Here I was also able to get a wide range
of factors that attract you to a video as
one popular answer to the first and last
question was that they liked the idea of
following one charters journey through
a video.
12. QUESTIONAIRE
In my questionnaire I asked several questions that
I believed helped me through the process of
planning my video for example I asked them on
their favourite video of this year any why. The
answers I found most useful were these.
Finding that two of the most popular themes of a
music video were dance and comedy worked out
well as I was then able to combine the two videos
to hopefully gain a wider audience.
The second question here also helped me with the
ancillary task as it gave me ideas where I would
display the videos or advertisements. As I found
that the most popular choice was YouTube , I could
then ensure it was seen there.
Also finding out that special effects were liked in
the music video allowed me to think on if I would
want any of them in mine.
13. HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION, RESEARCH AND
PLANNING STAGES ?
14. PHOTOSHOP
During the creation of my ancillary tasks I spent most
of this time using Photoshop, I was familiar with this
software before as I had used it before , yet here I
was able to improve and expand my knowledge and
skills.
Here I learnt how to add many features to my work
which did end up being on the final project for
example I was able too add bevels and different
shading techniques.
15. PREMIERE
Before starting this work I had never before
used premiere therefore I had to pick up these
skills very quickly in order to have enough time
to finish my overall task.
One problem I had to overcome was uploading
the footage, I then had trouble adding it to the
premiere site, yet I was able to overcome this
as I found I had to change the videos video
format for it to work
I also learnt new skills in how to create cross
cuts and dissolves and also how to add the
music to the video ensuring it was timed
correctly with each scene.
16. DAFONT,BLOGGER&YOUTUBE
I was able to find the website www.dafont.com to help
me with my ancillary tasks. I believe this was a good
thing as I was able to find fonts and barcodes on this site
that were unique and interesting and that worked well
on software's like Photoshop.
I also found that blogger was very important as it
allowed me to upload and keep track of my progress
throughout the planning and creation stages of the
tasks.
Youtube itself was also very important to my work as it
was not only added to it could be uploaded to my blog
but it also allowed us to get feedback on the video. I also
think this helped me improved my knowledge as I had
never added a video to blogger or YouTube before
