3. Feedback from the audience was gathered through questionnaires and used to inform changes to the media products to better align with what the target audience likes. YouTube views also provided feedback on the trailer.
The document discusses the effectiveness of combining the main product (film) with ancillary tasks (poster and review). It finds that the poster and review complement the film well by communicating similar themes, issues, and audiences. Both the poster and review reference the film's realism genre through techniques like contrasted lighting. The review provides more context and insight than the poster, potentially attracting a wider audience. Overall, the author believes the three products work well together to represent the film and its intentions more fully than the film alone.
This document discusses the film "Gone" and its use of film techniques and conventions. It summarizes the filmmaker's process, from researching other films during planning, to getting feedback on drafts from others. New media technologies like YouTube and blogs were used during research, production, and evaluation to analyze other films, get early feedback, and document the filmmaking process over time. The feedback helped the filmmaker improve areas that were confusing or needed more emotion.
The document discusses how stereotypes are commonly used in media to present easily recognizable characters but often present one-sided negative portrayals of social groups. It then discusses how the filmmaker's trailer uses stereotypes of mental illness by exaggerating symptoms of schizophrenia. It also includes stereotypical portrayals of the main character as young, naive, and without parental support. The filmmaker acknowledges using stereotypes helps audiences connect quickly with the characters but some portrayals are not accurate.
The document discusses the author's music magazine media product and how it represents social groups and could be distributed. The magazine challenges stereotypes about young people by portraying a young female musician as strong, ambitious and breaking molds. The language and images aim to inspire youth. Due to declining print media, the magazine could be distributed through both traditional outlets and online promotion on television, radio, websites and social media to reach a wide audience.
The student proposes creating a short film/music video exploring the trauma of harassment and violence against women through portraying a woman's internal struggles and implied journey to freedom. Research will include analyzing similar existing works and music to inform the project's themes, style, and audience. A detailed plan outlines the pre-production, production, and evaluation phases over 17 weeks, including researching, storyboarding, filming, editing, and getting feedback to create a high-quality final product.
The student's media products used and developed conventions of real media by analyzing various short films and genres. They produced a film poster, short film, and magazine review targeting an audience aged 15+. Research included analyzing existing works and questionnaires. Challenges included learning new software and finding actors. Feedback praised the poster design and review layout, but suggested changes to the film's color scheme and longer scenes. Overall the research and planning process improved from year one to two.
The poster and film review both promote and provide insight into the short film. The poster depicts the natural environment and themes of isolation and loneliness. The review analyzes the film's themes of abuse and mental illness, informed by the director's previous work. Both aim to attract a niche audience interested in subtle, thoughtful films and communicate the issues effectively, though the poster risks misrepresenting the character as too strong. Together they deepen understanding before and after viewing while generally reflecting the film's key elements.
Jared Spencer evaluated his own media product and how it developed or challenged conventions of real media.
He summarized that his teaser trailer was influenced by the film "Hitman" as they had similar narratives. However, he challenged some conventions such as having the main character look directly at the camera to suggest rebellion. He also used fewer shots and fast pacing to conceal the plot.
For his magazine cover, he developed conventions of "Total Film" by having background images link to the theme and film. He challenged codes by having the character look away and overlap the title.
From audience feedback on his trailer and magazine mock-ups, he learned feedback is key to understanding if his work is on the right track

The document discusses the aims and conventions used in the creation of a film poster, magazine cover, and teaser trailer for a media evaluation assignment. For the poster, the aims were to catch attention and intrigue audiences about the film. Dim colors and a focus on the character's eyes were used to set a dark tone. The magazine cover was meant to promote the film and entice people to learn more inside. Realistic plugs and a coordinated design followed industry conventions. The teaser trailer aimed to tease the plot just enough to interest viewers without giving too much away. Lighting and location were used to convey mood and leave audiences wanting more.
Melissa Cruz Santos is a medical photographer. Her photographs are used in medical textbooks and publications to show factual information about medical conditions or procedures. The photos are often not highly controlled, as she is observing real medical scenes and surgeries and cannot control the lighting or environment. Some photos may be in black and white to give an artistic style, but the goal is to represent medical realities accurately rather than be purely artistic. Post-production editing is usually minimal to maintain authenticity.

The human respiratory system includes the nose, mouth, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and lungs. Air enters through the nose or mouth and is warmed and filtered before passing to the pharynx and trachea. The trachea divides into bronchi that branch into smaller bronchioles and terminate in alveoli in the lungs. The alveoli are surrounded by capillaries where oxygen diffuses into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide diffuses out. Breathing is facilitated by the diaphragm muscle. The respiratory system works to oxygenate the blood and remove carbon dioxide

The document discusses the production of a music video as a media product. It analyzes how the music video uses and challenges conventions of real music videos. The main challenges included not showing the band, using a nonlinear narrative, and ending with a "shaky shot." Feedback from the audience was positive and noted the realistic portrayal and happy ending. New media technologies like Photoshop, video editing software, and cameras were used in the production, research, and evaluation.
The document discusses targeting the English working class audience for a film opening. It aims to intrigue this audience by showing the main character alone at a train station, posing questions. It also follows genre conventions initially to ease audiences in, but ends the opening on a cliffhanger, going against expectations to create shock and confusion. Costume, setting, and music are used to engage audiences and relate the film to their own lives. The unconventional ending is a risk but aims to further intrigue audiences to continue watching for answers.
The document discusses how the media creator used conventions from real media products like teaser trailers and magazine covers to make their own media work more professional. They analyzed trailers like Valentine's Day to understand conventions like being snappy, not revealing too much of the plot, and keeping the audience interested. The creator challenged some conventions by giving the female character a higher status than typical. They used techniques like camera shots, music, and poster design elements to engage audiences in a way inspired by analyzing professional works.
The document discusses the creation of a 30 second film opening for a drama film called "Before I Die". The creator chose to focus on a teenage girl suffering from a terminal illness. To make the opening look professional, the creator used various camera shots like close-ups, over-the-shoulder shots, and establishing shots. The creator also added a voiceover and slow instrumental music to create emotion. Based on research of drama films, the creator set the opening on a cold, windy beach to reflect the character's lonely and vulnerable feelings. Through practicing and improving planning, lighting, costumes, and editing, the creator learned important filmmaking skills between the preliminary task and full project.
Sophie created a short opening scene for a thriller film inspired by the movie "Taken." She used conventions of the thriller genre like suspenseful music and quick cuts between shots to create a sense of danger. The film represents the target audience of 16-18 year olds through the clothes and age of the main character. Sophie believes the film would appeal to 20th Century Fox as a distributor since they have distributed similar thrillers in the past.

2. Does the use of conventions indicate what
other trailers have influenced my trailer ?
Trailers that have influences my trailer are :
Hangover
I used many techniques within my trailer for example, I used
the idea of the narrative of the wake up after a night out
and seeing the persons reaction. Within the trailer of
hangover the first thing we see is the characters waking up Project x P.OV SHOT
after a hang over and realising there in serious situation or
funny situations, using close ups and Stedi cams
Project x
I used to use of P.O.V shots at the beginning of the trailer
which is the same as the beginning in projects x trailer. They
use the P.O.V shot and the main character purposely talks
into the camera, in my trailer I am giving the main Bad influences POV
character an interview. This is all to make the film look real SHOT
and that brings more of a comedy feel.
3. How does your media represent particular social
groups?
The social group that I have represented in my trailer, poster
and magazine front cover are teenagers and younger adults
The stereotypical style of aiming to teenagers and youngers
adults that I have done through my media is through the use of
alcohol. Alcohol is the main object and story line within my film
and obviously will attract the youth. Because I made my main Project x
character a bit of a party animal through drinking and going
out, this is the main striving motivation for young adults.
My main character is also a young adult and within his
university years, which will aim at all young adults that are in
the same situation.
I was inspired with this by films like Project x which was a huge
inspiration on myself doing the project. In the style that young
adults are just known as party animals and drink all the time.
This is a stereotypical view on young adults and I have used
that within my media products. This would not have been as Bad influences
effective if I had used an older or younger person and perhaps
a women.

4. Who would be the audience for your trailer ?
• My target audience: Males and females between the ages of 15-25. It would be
unsuitable for people younger than the age of 15.
I researched into other films with similar genres of mine to get a good overall picture
of what certificate I should tag on it. For this is used a site called imdb.com.
http://www.imdb.com/
IMDB allowed to access all films and see whether there films are similar to mine. With
the use of films such as The hangover and Shaun of the dead I decided to certificate
my film a 15.
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/classification/guidelines/15-2
The BBFC site is also a site I used to see what
common trends were in films with different
certificates.
It helped be view all types of films and grudge
whether my film should have the same certificate or
not.
5. How did I attracted/address my audience ?
• Because the audience I aimed for was 15-25 I had to attract them in ways I
thought would be suitable for that age.
With the use of I have also used the
camera POV shots advantage of drinking
and also an ‘over the games such as ‘beer pong’

6. How did I attracted/address my audience ?
Music
Within my trailer I used dance music to attract my audience. Through the
music It creates a party atmosphere for my audience.
I didn’t initially have the music on my trailer but with the use of comments
from my class mates and my target audience I decided to add the music In on
my final trailer.

7. How did I attracted/address my audience ?
The reason why I chose this photo is
because it symbolises youth culture and
freedom. The thing teenagers want to do
most is go out and have a drink with
friends. This poster reflects that in the
way the character is peering through the
glass in a ‘I want that’ type look on his
face. The fact that I have put his face and
background in grey but only the beer in
and writing in colour only retorts the fact
that the only thing students associate
with their students lives is alcohol. Hence
the peering through the glass.
The reason of the writing is to reflect the
actual connotations of the beer. I have
put the word ‘bad’ in white and the word
‘ influences’ in a strange kind of orange
colour because the white symbolised the
head of the beer and the orange colour
the beer itself. Its as if the beer is in
control of the person and that the
bottom of the beer is part of the persons
face.
9. I have done the
masthead like this to
try and create a sort The writing I have made
of drunken style quite colourful with the
writing, because the words extra and plus in
audience is aimed at a green. I have also

11. How effective is the combination of your main product
and ancillary texts?
• I used a sense of branding with my trailer and ancillaries . In all 3 there is the main
character dominating this creates a sort of branding that people associate with this
person.
As you can see in all three media products the trailer, poster, magazine you see the
dominant character of the main and mainly associated with drinking or partying. With
the trailer you can see the character is staring into the character in a way that he’s
trying to communicate with the audience as if when you speaks he is speaking directly
to them. This is also said in the ancillary products. In the poster the character is
looking into the glass in a kind of determined face, like he wants what he is looking at.
The magazine front cover it is though he is already at the party. This acts like a time
line on a night out like so… Poster

12. What have you learned from your audience feedback ?
I learned a lot from my audience
feedback, at the beginning of this media
task I made a questionnaire and gave it
to people to fill out. The questions where
on what they would like to see on a
comedy film, how old they are, what
genre they would prefer to see and why
and also to list there 5 top comedy films.
Now I did the final question because I
wanted to know what type of comedy
films my audiences liked because there
are many styles and ways to film it. I got
a general round up of the types of films
my audience likes to watch and decided
to go from there.
Once I gathered my information I
constructed my media products
and changed them if the audience
preferred something else.
13. What have you learned from your audience feedback ?
I also used YouTube, this helped me to put my trailer rival and see how many
views it would receive and to see if any comments came where posted the
video that could help me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFBgIc7Ny
1E Link to my trailer on you tube.
I also received feedback from my class and many comments on how I could improve
and make the trailer more comical. Some comments told me to add extracts into my
trailer for example the music I used. The comment was ‘perhaps you should add music
to make the party atmosphere’
I also used many other suggestions and this graph shows how the
rated/ranked my trailer at that time.
14. How did you use new media technologies in the construction
evaluation and planning stages?
I used my blog to present all my research and planning, this helped to show and
set out how I researched, all the sites I've used and how I used them. This was
essential for my work.
The internet was a massive part in my research and planning because It allowed
to access onto sites I needed to use, such as YouTube. This allowed me to view
and analysis trailers of films and their for help with the construction on my
trailer . I used the site imdb to research into all my familiar films and trailer as
well.
I used a digital camera for the construction of my trailer, I was also provided
with a tripod which helped me with some shots even though most were POV.
The tripod allowed me to steady shots if it is hard to view them.
For the main construction of my media product I used a software called
Paint.net. This software allowed me to move/crop/colour pretty much do all
types of essential ways to develop my images. I was able to crop around my
pictures and add text around it. Paint.net was vital to the construction of my
poster and magazine.
In the editing of my trailer and the videos I used a software called Adobe
Premiere, this software allowed me to edit my clips by cutting/lengthening
/slowing down any clips that I desired.
I also used YouTube to upload my trailer onto the internet.

15. Evaluation
For the evaluation I used the website SLIDESHARE, this helped me post my
evaluation onto my blog and making the viewing of it much easier.
http://www.slideshare.net/upload
To make my evaluation I used the software Microsoft powerpoint. This helped
me create my evaluation and edit it. I can easily add and share images which
made the creation of the evaluation very quick and easy.
