Working Title: Taxidermy
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
The age for my target audience is going to be either 15-22 or 30-55 as my products have two
genres which are comedy and horror; because of this, I have selected the 2 age ranges you see
here as horror movies appears to be more of a teen thing and according to yougov.net, older
audiences seem to like comedy movies more than the younger audiences. Due to this dilemma, it
may be difficult to decide which age range to pick so; I may have to go for the middle of these age
ranges which would make it around 23-29. Another way this can be handled is by simply having
the age range be older as most horror/comedy films make fun of clichés and tropes within the
horror genre and most of these jokes/clichés tend to originate from older horror films so, the older
audience are more likely to pick up on these things compared to the younger audience but, this
would mean more of a focus on the comedy themes rather than the horror ones; just like scary
movie. Another way I could go about doing this is by placing more emphasis on the horror aspect
which would mean changing the age for the target audience to the younger age range that I
provided earlier while also using the more, updated horror style to go along with it. When taking
the CBBFC into account, I should probably go for an 18-rated film due to the fact that this is the
highest rating and it appeals to teenagers and adults equally however, I can’t really get a hold of
blood or gore as a prop so, I may just have to switch to the 15-age range instead which may
slightly lower the target audience a lot but not by much. The gender that I have intended for my
product will be male for the simple reason that males are the dominant gender in this category; the
male to female ratio in this field is pre-dominantly male so, I should appeal more to males instead
of females. Females will still be able to watch my film and this is because I don’t really mind if they
do and I won’t necessarily make it impossible for females to watch it. Despite this, females will
have a much harder time relating to this film as the characters are pre-dominantly male so,
females will have a much more difficult time relating to them compared to males who understand
the problems that males come into contact with as well as personality traits. The information
comes from you.gov.com which and according to them, this particular genre has more male
followers. When taking into account the fact that I will be introducing more horror elements into the
trailer, this ultimately leads to males being more dominant again as males greatly prefer this genre
as well to women. Females can still like this genre which is why I will still take them into
consideration when designing the film in Pre-Production however, I’m not really sure how to do
this. The social statuses that I plan on appealing too is BC1C2 and this is because these social
grades make up the middle-class citizens in this country. Because my film will be set in a middle-
class home and town, it makes a lot of sense to appeal to these particular social grades and this is
enforced by the fact that the characters are also very casual, middle class people. The people in B
and C1 will have a lot of money to spare so, they can quite easily buy tickets for the film, buy
merchandise and buy the DVD when it is released whereas the lower classes probably don’t have
the money to spare for these kinds of luxuries. The reason I didn’t go for A is because they can’t
really relate to the characters in this film as they are middle class characters and also, the fact that
they make up a very small percentage of the population means that investing in them won’t make
nearly as much money compared to investing in the middle-class audience which make up a very
large number of the audience at around 73%. Due to these factors, appealing to BC1C2 will be the
appropriate choice for my product. The psychographic that would be easier to appeal to would be
belongers as they generally stick with the things that they like the most; in this case, it is
Horror/comedy so people who stick with this genre will be more likely to pick up this film and watch
it which can lead to the purchase of merchandise, DVDs etc. The explorers are also another good
choice for my product as people in the Psychographic are usually quite young and typically in their
teens in comparison to the other psychographics which are generally adults. The main reason for
picking this particular group is because I was going to appeal to a younger audience anyway so,
this is perfect; I can make good use of their curiosity to get them to watch the film which would lead
to the purchase of tickets and merchandise. The struggler is also another good one as they prefer
the escape from reality which my film can bring them however, my product is not really that much
of a break away from reality so, they probably won’t be able to link well with this product that much
especially when considering the fact that these consumers will probably take the relatability to the
characters as a bad thing so, they might not really be a good choice. The last psychographic that I
can pick is the Mainstream psychographic and this mostly consists of people who just follow other
Proposal
2
people like sheep and stick to the trendiest things. The easiest way to get the mainstream
audience to link with my product is by using the other psychographics to latch onto the product and
enjoy it and have them tell the mainstream psychographic to watch the film and, due to their mind-
set, they’ll gladly go and watch it which would result in some more money being made in the
merchandise apartment should they enjoy the film.
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
The things that I have learnt at the start of the year in the IRN-BRU project are the fundamental
aspects of Photoshop and Premiere as well as PowerPoint. Starting with Photoshop; I learnt to use
quite a few of the more basic tools like the selection tool, paint bucket tool, pencil tool, eraser tool,
eyedropper tool as well as the mixer brush tool. I used this software and the tools to create the
adver-game for the IRN-BRU project as well as the posters and this will help me with my film cover
and film poster for the FMP because the fundamentals to any skill set are very important and
without them I would definitely struggle with making anything on Photoshop let alone designing the
products for my FMP. I had also developed knowledge on the animation side of things as I was
able to make an animation using Photoshop as well utilizing the timeline panel to create different
frames for the animation however, I’m not making an animation or even using the timeline feature
on Photoshop so, this isn’t really that helpful for my FMP. The tools that I learnt when using
premiere were the selection tool, razor tool for the assembly section, some colour correction in the
colour section; shadow tint, highlight tint and saturation, visual and audio effects in the effects
section which mostly include the video and audio transitions to other clips followed by using the
title section to add text into the video. The software and the tools will definitely be a big help for
both my experimental short film and my final short film as I will have a much easier time when
editing both the FMP experiment and the short film as I have picked up the skills already and don’t
need to learn them now which, as I have already said, makes this much easier. The music used in
the IRN-BRU film was royalty free so, I didn’t pick up any skills to help with developing my own
soundtrack for the FMP for that particular project but, I was able to pick up some skill when it came
to making the film shorter by removing certain parts of the advert while still keeping its context as it
was a requirement to make the advert varying lengths so, I believe that I have developed the skill
to remove parts of the story while also still making it easy for the audience to understand the
context and the moral message of the story. Despite that, I doubt it will be that useful but, I can use
this to cut some of the plot that I find unnecessary or boring away while still keeping the story
intact. The skills that I learned to help me with PowerPoint include creating a structured and
organised work plan for all the parts of the project as some of the PowerPoints were left up to the
students to create in that particular project but, it can still help with adding extra slides to the
PowerPoints where I see fit. I also learnt to add images and text into the PowerPoint using the text
box as well as learning how to screenshot on Macs and windows respectively which will help my
FMP as I will be able to quickly create text boxes and add images to the PowerPoint. The most
important skill for PowerPoint comes in the form of the grammar; vocabulary and work ethic which
improved after the first project after the long summer which made me lose some of it. The time
management for that particular project was ok but still not want I had wanted it to be but, it was
better than it was last year so, it did improve. This project will help me overall thanks to the tools
that I have learnt for Photoshop and Premiere when making the poster, film cover and Trailer
respectively. I was happy with the skills I picked up from this project and I would definitely use
them in my FMP because I see the fundamental skills for the software listed to be very important
and they helped me design products that I consider to be of decent standard so, I hope that using
these skills will help me develop an FMP of much better quality. My overall thoughts and feelings
for the IRN-BRU project are in the middle really as I wasn’t really fond of the subject matter as it
was really specific which meant that I couldn’t really be creative with any of the products and my
bad time management skills for this project led to me being more stressed out over it so, I didn’t
enjoy it as much because of this. The things that I did enjoy about this project were making the
advertisement as I enjoy filming and editing followed by designing some of the posters as they all
actually came out alright and I was rather pleased with myself after they were made.

The things that I learnt from the video game project mostly came from Photoshop as the video
game project only used PowerPoint, Word and Photoshop however, my Photoshop skills
developed more during this project compared to anywhere else. The tools I used when designing
the video game project in Photoshop were the same ones as listed above with the addition of
bevel and emboss, stroke, inner glow and drop shadow. I also developed my animating skills
further by changing the amount of time spent on each frame to make conversations between the
characters easier to follow and long enough for the audience to know what the conversation was
about. These tools will be useful to me when making my FMP because I can use the more
advanced editing techniques that I listed above to add shadow and other effects that help certain
parts of the product stand out from the background e.g. images on the back of the DVD cover, text
on the DVD cover, text on the Poster and other effects on the poster and DVD cover to make them
appear more professional and appeal to my audience more. The animating side of things won’t
help me out as much because I won’t be making an animation of any kind however, it did help me
with being as precise as possible due to the fact that the slightest error in an animation can lead to
a problem that won’t present itself until later which has made me more skilled in being able to edit
Photoshop more precise and delicately yet, this may affect my timing as such precision may take
up a lot of time to get right so, I may have to abandon this slightly. The PowerPoint side of things
hasn’t developed as much as I only use PowerPoint for the written work which I learnt in the
previous unit however, my writing speed is getting better however slightly so that still counts for
something that I’ve learnt and this is great for my time management and will help me make my
FMP in the sense that I can get work completed on time; more so than last time at least. I was
happy with this project as a whole as the product itself was fairly good and I didn’t struggle with the
written work either which I believe made for a good project overall and it even got me some high
marks here and there so, I was very happy with the way it turned out. Despite this, I think that this
project won’t be of much help to me when I comes to my FMP considering that some of the skills I
picked up won’t help me so, the only skills that will be of use to me for the FMP are the new editing
techniques that I picked up which are simply used for helping certain aspects of the product stand
out. The time management for this particular project went well too as the written work as well as
the product were completed within good time. My thoughts and feelings on this project are pretty
good as video games are my forte so to speak and I enjoy the subject matter a lot however, I don’t
like animating that much so, it made the project less enjoyable for me even when the subject
matter is one of my favourites.
The skills that I learnt from the short film project come in the form of the tools and editing
techniques on Premiere unlike the previous project which mainly allowed me to develop my
Photoshop skills. I didn’t learn anything new when it came to the assembly section of Premiere
however I did learn some new colour techniques which include use of sharpen colour, vibrance
colour, tint balance and intensity. I also learned some new techniques for the effects and these
include changing the opacity, the audio volume and using the colour correction tool from the video
effects tab. I didn’t learn any new techniques from the title or audio segment from the editing
software as I felt that there wasn’t much more I could learn from those two specific segments. The
new techniques will still help me create the Trailer though as they are very helpful when it comes
to using the colour editing tools to change the mood of the scene, the visual effects to add to the
mood and also help slow down and speed up certain clips and being able to change the volume of
said clips can also help if there is any background noise that requires adjusting should it interfere
with the video in anyway. The other techniques that I learned from this project in particular was the
camera work as I was able to apply specific shot types to both the experiments the product. The
shots that I deployed in this project were Close up, Long shot, Establishing shot, Medium shot,
Duo medium shot, Over-the-shoulder shot and tracking shot. I also learned how to correctly apply
focus when filming which will definitely be a big help when filming both the experiments for the
FMP and the Final Trailer simply because the focus helps to bring attention to certain details of the
film such as the background and some characters which, can even be used for symbolism and can
create hidden meanings. The shot types are also very helpful as I can use them to not only create
a professional product; I can to use them to help plan out the experiments and final trailer which
will not only make the filming process much easier; it will also make organising storyboards and
the positions the actors take easier too. I also developed a small amount of skill when it comes to
music as well due to the fact that it was required to include music in the short film and extra marks
were rewarded for making your own music thus, I developed some knowledge of garage band.
This knowledge is limited though because I merely used music clips to create the music however, I
still aimed to create a music track that added to the feel of the short film which was a Sci-Fi
Proposal

Comedy film. The knowledge I acquired from garage band will be a great asset in the FMP as I
intend to make a music track for the FMP experiments and create another one for the trailer when
it is time to edit it however, my lack of knowledge in this area may prove to be a bit of an issue. I
haven’t learned any new skills for PowerPoint as I only use the text boxes and the occasional
shapes in PowerPoint. Despite this, My writing speed did improve to a degree though which
definitely effects my time management and should help me out in this regard for the FMP due to
the fact that time is very important. Overall this project was very helpful as my main project is a
comedy/horror trailer so, the skills that I picked up in Filming, Premiere and Garage Band will
definitely be extremely helpful and should make the process of creating the experiments and
production an easier challenge to surmount. The only things I did struggle with on this project was
the time constraints set on the production as I couldn’t make a decent film with the time that was
allotted to me and even went over it accidently during production which led to the film having to be
cut in half as well as losing some of the shots that I had in the product originally. Due to this
mistake, I have learned from my failures and have decided to plan the trailer more thoroughly
when it comes to the Pre-Production. My thoughts and feelings on this project as a whole is good
as I enjoy doing short film quite a lot which is why I ended up picking it for my FMP and also
because I want to specialize in it as well. The things that I enjoyed the most were the both the
filming and editing as filming is really fun and it’s interesting to see what can happen to the product
after it has been edited.
The skills that I learned from the print project which is the last project before the FMP were mostly
from Photoshop as this software is quite possibly the easiest software, that is accessible, to use
when creating and designing products related to print or animations due to the amount of available
tools and how easy it for an amateur to get around the editing software. This software was used to
create the front cover for the magazine. The next editing software that I used for this project is In
Design which was used to create the double page spread for the magazine. This software was
trickier to use compared to Photoshop and Wix but, I did get by when using it. The last software
that I used for this project was Wix and this was actually design software that can be found on the
internet and does not need to be installed to your computer. I found this software very useful when
it came to making a website for my print project because of the tools that I will list shortly. The new
tools that I learned on Photoshop include the burn tool, dodge tool, magic wand tool, healing brush
tool, sharpen tool and the lasso tool as well as the other skills and tools that I have learnt this year.
This project also helped finalize the development of my Photoshop skills, especially regarding print
work which will definitely help me during the process of creating both the experimental poster and
experimental DVD cover for my FMP as well as the final DVD cover and poster that I will be
making for this project. I personally found In Design to be fairly difficult to use for this project as it
was much more complicated and a lot of the tools were vastly different from Photoshop, which led
to me not really using any of the tools that In Design had to offer with the exception of the selection
tool, gradient tool and text tool as I found these tools to be fairly easy to use compared to the other
tools listed as they were quite different compared to the ones on Photoshop. This is made worse
when considering the fact that I personally won’t be using In Design at all for my FMP and I didn’t
expect too either so, a lot it didn’t really stick with me but, I won’t be using it anyway so, I won’t
have to worry about the lack of skills that I learned from this particular software. I didn’t actually
pick up any tools to use from Wix but, I did learn some skills for website building and these were
being able to organise the text and images for the website to look somewhat professional, creating
and adding a background, which was made in Photoshop and being able to create a sale page
that works to some degree. The only skills that will be useful for my FMP are the organisational
skills I developed when designing the website and the Photoshop skill to create the background
however, the latter does not necessarily count as a skill that I have picked up from Wix but it does
help with organising my FMP and creating some interesting backgrounds. In terms of time
management I haven’t really changed that much from my last project and in some instances, my
time management may have gotten slightly worse as well such as when finding some research
and when evaluating the project as a whole but, that experience has taught me to spend more time
working on projects outside of lesson and this is even more important considering the fact that I
want to go for a distinction grade as well. Overall I found this project to be very useful as I have
learned quite a bit in terms of Photoshop and developed my organisational skills but, I don’t
consider skills learned from In Design to be that helpful as I will not be using it at all during the
FMP and I won’t be using Wix either so, The only skills I can really take into account are the ones
taken from Photoshop as this is the only software that I plan on using from this project. My overall
thoughts and feelings on this particular project were also pretty bad as I don’t really like making
Proposal
5
print work that much compared to the other projects but, it does seem to be less difficult and it
makes sense for it to be paired with film which is something that I enjoy doing.
The major skills that I plan on taking into the FMP are all the tools and skills from Photoshop that I
learned over the course of this year as they will all be very useful when designing both the
experimental work and the production work when designing the poster and DVD cover as the
knowledge of these tools will allow me to design a visually impressive product by the end of this
project. I will also use the tools and skills that I learned from PowerPoint as I need to use these
skills for the written work that is required and these skills can also help with Word as well as the
skills I have developed from using PowerPoint are simply for written work. The skills that I had
developed from Premiere will be very useful for making the trailer for my FMP because, for the
same reason that Photoshop is useful, I can create a professional trailer which will help appeal to
my target audience. Wix will be semi-useful when designing my products as I learnt how to
organise things better and this will be really useful however, the other elements of Wix won’t be
useful at all. My time management as a whole this year has been kind of rocky which is mainly to
do with my lack of concentration however, I did manage to get everything in on time which gives
me some confidence but at the end of the day, I need to improve my time management more if I
want to get the work in on time while getting a distinction as well. My thoughts and feelings on the
course this year are that I enjoyed it but, I felt that the course was a bit repetitive as having to do 4
projects which use are very setup does get fairly dull by the end of the year and this may affect me
negatively this project as the layout not changing at all may lead me to rush some parts out of lack
of patience.
Review your progress throughout the year- what skills and knowledge have you acquired?

Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
I am planning on making a trailer, poster for the trailer and a DVD cover for what would be the film.
The updated plot of the story for this trailer consists of two guys who live in a house in a small
town. When their new neighbour jimmy moves in, people all around the neighbourhood begin to
disappear at a rather consistent rate which raises the curiosity of the protagonist who starts to look
into it. This is made even more difficult when everyone around him doesn’t seem to make the
connection and blindly follows jimmy like the ‘good’ neighbour he is. The protagonist ends up
bringing his friend into the investigation and he just so happens to be actually dumber than
everyone else there and this is the comedic factor in the film. His stupidity continues to annoy the
protagonist quite a lot through the film to the point where he openly admits his irritation with it. This
leads to a bit of a divide between the characters and this come to an end when his friend finally
believes him and they both decide to go after him. The Jimmy on the other hand continues to act
like he had nothing to do with it even though he’s constantly seen wearing a mask that would
creep Stan out or earn some love from the neighbours. Jimmy continues to allude Stan until the
point where both Stan and his friend show up and finally confront him. Jimmy however says he
had nothing to do with it even stating that the mask is for fun and his threats were just supposed to
be a prank. During his confusion, jimmy is killed by Stan’s roommate and reveals himself to be the
taxidermist killer. Stan is also cut down by his friend and is made a part of his collection but before
his death, the roommate admits that Stan was truly the only person he considered his friend and
wants to keep him forever. The film ends with the roommate tending to Stan and Jimmy while
smiling and singing his favourite song. Because I’m short for time, I had to change the concept to a
trailer instead. The trailer will take some of the clips into account and make good use of the shots I
have already used. I intend on starting the trailer with an establishing shot of the house which will
cut to a text frame and move into a medium shot of the roommate and Stan sat on the sofa
watching TV. The next scene is Stan asking for a refill on snacks; his roommate reluctantly agrees
and the taxidermist killer can be seen in the background of the shot, lurking in the shadows. The
trailer will then cut to some shots of the characters commenting on Jimmy’s general appearance
and mask with the killer just lurking outside the house, almost as if he is listening in. I don’t know
what else to put into the trailer after this however, I should probably add one or two jump scares as
I mentioned in the research just to keep my promise to the audience. The DVD and Poster will, of
course, be about the film in the sense that they utilize the mask and the characters. I should also
make the poster and DVD cover more symbolic as I mentioned in the research so I can appeal to
my target audience better. I will need to conduct some research into the horror/comedy genre so, I
can find some possible tropes to act as more of a foundation to my product and make it more
Proposal
6
funny or to make it more horrifying in some areas. I could do a little more audience research to
build a more solid foundation to my product so, I can create a product that I more audience
friendly. I can also make some layouts for my DVD cover and Poster to help develop a base for my
idea and possibly to help test them as ideas. Analysing fonts and colours that I want to use is also
another step to help plan and research my product as I can get an idea on what colours and fonts
will best suit my product. Creating some tests/experiments will be very helpful as I can test some
ideas that I have and see if they work or if they don’t look good.
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan on evaluating the work by first of all; Analysing how well I planned my work by looking at my
pre-production, initial plans and proposal while also coming to a conclusion on whether or not they
are good enough or not while also reflecting on my planning and making notes on how I could
improve them. This is followed by analysing how I researched the product and this includes the
research PowerPoint, the experiments and some extra tutorials I may have watched. This will also
be summarized and include some self-reflection on what I could have done better and how I could
have improved them. After this I look at how I managed my time across the whole project and see
how this could have been improved and what I would have done with extra time. Getting onto the
products I start by comparing my work to existing products that are similar to mine e.g. Comparing
my trailer to a professional trailer that is also a horror comedy, a poster that is from a
horror/comedy film compared to my poster and my DVD box art compared to another box art. This
is helpful because I can analyse each of my film/poster/Box art and see if they are comparable to
professional quality. I can also analyse the strengths and weaknesses of my products and see
what went wrong or what went well followed by any improvements I could make and how I could
apply them for next year. This is useful because I can take a step back to really think about how
good my product is and I can boost this up by using my comparison to the other products as a bit
of ground to work on. I can also evaluate how well my product appealed to my audience on a
whole and I can do this by comparing my work to my audience research in the research
PowerPoint along with my audience research in proposal and see if I followed the guidelines that I
had set out here. It would also be useful to compare my product with the existing products in
Research so, I can see how much inspiration I took or how much I followed the setup of my
research products. After this I can use some feedback from my peers to see what was actually
wrong with my products as outside opinions help to give an outside opinion on each product so, I
can see a different perspective on the film to see if my own criticism is correct or not. This can also
help me with developing my work and see what I could have done along with what I would have
done. As I am also doing mini evaluations as I go along for each week, I can wrap it up by
including a final one reflecting on all the work I have done.
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final
self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.

Proposal 1 Working Title: Taxidermy Whatis it called? This can change if you think of something better later Audience: The age for my target audience is going to be either 15-22 or 30-55 as my products have two genres which are comedy and horror; because of this, I have selected the 2 age ranges you see here as horror movies appears to be more of a teen thing and according to yougov.net, older audiences seem to like comedy movies more than the younger audiences. Due to this dilemma, it may be difficult to decide which age range to pick so; I may have to go for the middle of these age ranges which would make it around 23-29. Another way this can be handled is by simply having the age range be older as most horror/comedy films make fun of clichés and tropes within the horror genre and most of these jokes/clichés tend to originate from older horror films so, the older audience are more likely to pick up on these things compared to the younger audience but, this would mean more of a focus on the comedy themes rather than the horror ones; just like scary movie. Another way I could go about doing this is by placing more emphasis on the horror aspect which would mean changing the age for the target audience to the younger age range that I provided earlier while also using the more, updated horror style to go along with it. When taking the CBBFC into account, I should probably go for an 18-rated film due to the fact that this is the highest rating and it appeals to teenagers and adults equally however, I can’t really get a hold of blood or gore as a prop so, I may just have to switch to the 15-age range instead which may slightly lower the target audience a lot but not by much. The gender that I have intended for my product will be male for the simple reason that males are the dominant gender in this category; the male to female ratio in this field is pre-dominantly male so, I should appeal more to males instead of females. Females will still be able to watch my film and this is because I don’t really mind if they do and I won’t necessarily make it impossible for females to watch it. Despite this, females will have a much harder time relating to this film as the characters are pre-dominantly male so, females will have a much more difficult time relating to them compared to males who understand the problems that males come into contact with as well as personality traits. The information comes from you.gov.com which and according to them, this particular genre has more male followers. When taking into account the fact that I will be introducing more horror elements into the trailer, this ultimately leads to males being more dominant again as males greatly prefer this genre as well to women. Females can still like this genre which is why I will still take them into consideration when designing the film in Pre-Production however, I’m not really sure how to do this. The social statuses that I plan on appealing too is BC1C2 and this is because these social grades make up the middle-class citizens in this country. Because my film will be set in a middle- class home and town, it makes a lot of sense to appeal to these particular social grades and this is enforced by the fact that the characters are also very casual, middle class people. The people in B and C1 will have a lot of money to spare so, they can quite easily buy tickets for the film, buy merchandise and buy the DVD when it is released whereas the lower classes probably don’t have the money to spare for these kinds of luxuries. The reason I didn’t go for A is because they can’t really relate to the characters in this film as they are middle class characters and also, the fact that they make up a very small percentage of the population means that investing in them won’t make nearly as much money compared to investing in the middle-class audience which make up a very large number of the audience at around 73%. Due to these factors, appealing to BC1C2 will be the appropriate choice for my product. The psychographic that would be easier to appeal to would be belongers as they generally stick with the things that they like the most; in this case, it is Horror/comedy so people who stick with this genre will be more likely to pick up this film and watch it which can lead to the purchase of merchandise, DVDs etc. The explorers are also another good choice for my product as people in the Psychographic are usually quite young and typically in their teens in comparison to the other psychographics which are generally adults. The main reason for picking this particular group is because I was going to appeal to a younger audience anyway so, this is perfect; I can make good use of their curiosity to get them to watch the film which would lead to the purchase of tickets and merchandise. The struggler is also another good one as they prefer the escape from reality which my film can bring them however, my product is not really that much of a break away from reality so, they probably won’t be able to link well with this product that much especially when considering the fact that these consumers will probably take the relatability to the characters as a bad thing so, they might not really be a good choice. The last psychographic that I can pick is the Mainstream psychographic and this mostly consists of people who just follow other
  • 2.
Proposal 2 people like sheepand stick to the trendiest things. The easiest way to get the mainstream audience to link with my product is by using the other psychographics to latch onto the product and enjoy it and have them tell the mainstream psychographic to watch the film and, due to their mind- set, they’ll gladly go and watch it which would result in some more money being made in the merchandise apartment should they enjoy the film. Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section. Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the gender? Etc.) Rationale (approx. 100 words) The things that I have learnt at the start of the year in the IRN-BRU project are the fundamental aspects of Photoshop and Premiere as well as PowerPoint. Starting with Photoshop; I learnt to use quite a few of the more basic tools like the selection tool, paint bucket tool, pencil tool, eraser tool, eyedropper tool as well as the mixer brush tool. I used this software and the tools to create the adver-game for the IRN-BRU project as well as the posters and this will help me with my film cover and film poster for the FMP because the fundamentals to any skill set are very important and without them I would definitely struggle with making anything on Photoshop let alone designing the products for my FMP. I had also developed knowledge on the animation side of things as I was able to make an animation using Photoshop as well utilizing the timeline panel to create different frames for the animation however, I’m not making an animation or even using the timeline feature on Photoshop so, this isn’t really that helpful for my FMP. The tools that I learnt when using premiere were the selection tool, razor tool for the assembly section, some colour correction in the colour section; shadow tint, highlight tint and saturation, visual and audio effects in the effects section which mostly include the video and audio transitions to other clips followed by using the title section to add text into the video. The software and the tools will definitely be a big help for both my experimental short film and my final short film as I will have a much easier time when editing both the FMP experiment and the short film as I have picked up the skills already and don’t need to learn them now which, as I have already said, makes this much easier. The music used in the IRN-BRU film was royalty free so, I didn’t pick up any skills to help with developing my own soundtrack for the FMP for that particular project but, I was able to pick up some skill when it came to making the film shorter by removing certain parts of the advert while still keeping its context as it was a requirement to make the advert varying lengths so, I believe that I have developed the skill to remove parts of the story while also still making it easy for the audience to understand the context and the moral message of the story. Despite that, I doubt it will be that useful but, I can use this to cut some of the plot that I find unnecessary or boring away while still keeping the story intact. The skills that I learned to help me with PowerPoint include creating a structured and organised work plan for all the parts of the project as some of the PowerPoints were left up to the students to create in that particular project but, it can still help with adding extra slides to the PowerPoints where I see fit. I also learnt to add images and text into the PowerPoint using the text box as well as learning how to screenshot on Macs and windows respectively which will help my FMP as I will be able to quickly create text boxes and add images to the PowerPoint. The most important skill for PowerPoint comes in the form of the grammar; vocabulary and work ethic which improved after the first project after the long summer which made me lose some of it. The time management for that particular project was ok but still not want I had wanted it to be but, it was better than it was last year so, it did improve. This project will help me overall thanks to the tools that I have learnt for Photoshop and Premiere when making the poster, film cover and Trailer respectively. I was happy with the skills I picked up from this project and I would definitely use them in my FMP because I see the fundamental skills for the software listed to be very important and they helped me design products that I consider to be of decent standard so, I hope that using these skills will help me develop an FMP of much better quality. My overall thoughts and feelings for the IRN-BRU project are in the middle really as I wasn’t really fond of the subject matter as it was really specific which meant that I couldn’t really be creative with any of the products and my bad time management skills for this project led to me being more stressed out over it so, I didn’t enjoy it as much because of this. The things that I did enjoy about this project were making the advertisement as I enjoy filming and editing followed by designing some of the posters as they all actually came out alright and I was rather pleased with myself after they were made.
  • 3.
Proposal 3 The things thatI learnt from the video game project mostly came from Photoshop as the video game project only used PowerPoint, Word and Photoshop however, my Photoshop skills developed more during this project compared to anywhere else. The tools I used when designing the video game project in Photoshop were the same ones as listed above with the addition of bevel and emboss, stroke, inner glow and drop shadow. I also developed my animating skills further by changing the amount of time spent on each frame to make conversations between the characters easier to follow and long enough for the audience to know what the conversation was about. These tools will be useful to me when making my FMP because I can use the more advanced editing techniques that I listed above to add shadow and other effects that help certain parts of the product stand out from the background e.g. images on the back of the DVD cover, text on the DVD cover, text on the Poster and other effects on the poster and DVD cover to make them appear more professional and appeal to my audience more. The animating side of things won’t help me out as much because I won’t be making an animation of any kind however, it did help me with being as precise as possible due to the fact that the slightest error in an animation can lead to a problem that won’t present itself until later which has made me more skilled in being able to edit Photoshop more precise and delicately yet, this may affect my timing as such precision may take up a lot of time to get right so, I may have to abandon this slightly. The PowerPoint side of things hasn’t developed as much as I only use PowerPoint for the written work which I learnt in the previous unit however, my writing speed is getting better however slightly so that still counts for something that I’ve learnt and this is great for my time management and will help me make my FMP in the sense that I can get work completed on time; more so than last time at least. I was happy with this project as a whole as the product itself was fairly good and I didn’t struggle with the written work either which I believe made for a good project overall and it even got me some high marks here and there so, I was very happy with the way it turned out. Despite this, I think that this project won’t be of much help to me when I comes to my FMP considering that some of the skills I picked up won’t help me so, the only skills that will be of use to me for the FMP are the new editing techniques that I picked up which are simply used for helping certain aspects of the product stand out. The time management for this particular project went well too as the written work as well as the product were completed within good time. My thoughts and feelings on this project are pretty good as video games are my forte so to speak and I enjoy the subject matter a lot however, I don’t like animating that much so, it made the project less enjoyable for me even when the subject matter is one of my favourites. The skills that I learnt from the short film project come in the form of the tools and editing techniques on Premiere unlike the previous project which mainly allowed me to develop my Photoshop skills. I didn’t learn anything new when it came to the assembly section of Premiere however I did learn some new colour techniques which include use of sharpen colour, vibrance colour, tint balance and intensity. I also learned some new techniques for the effects and these include changing the opacity, the audio volume and using the colour correction tool from the video effects tab. I didn’t learn any new techniques from the title or audio segment from the editing software as I felt that there wasn’t much more I could learn from those two specific segments. The new techniques will still help me create the Trailer though as they are very helpful when it comes to using the colour editing tools to change the mood of the scene, the visual effects to add to the mood and also help slow down and speed up certain clips and being able to change the volume of said clips can also help if there is any background noise that requires adjusting should it interfere with the video in anyway. The other techniques that I learned from this project in particular was the camera work as I was able to apply specific shot types to both the experiments the product. The shots that I deployed in this project were Close up, Long shot, Establishing shot, Medium shot, Duo medium shot, Over-the-shoulder shot and tracking shot. I also learned how to correctly apply focus when filming which will definitely be a big help when filming both the experiments for the FMP and the Final Trailer simply because the focus helps to bring attention to certain details of the film such as the background and some characters which, can even be used for symbolism and can create hidden meanings. The shot types are also very helpful as I can use them to not only create a professional product; I can to use them to help plan out the experiments and final trailer which will not only make the filming process much easier; it will also make organising storyboards and the positions the actors take easier too. I also developed a small amount of skill when it comes to music as well due to the fact that it was required to include music in the short film and extra marks were rewarded for making your own music thus, I developed some knowledge of garage band. This knowledge is limited though because I merely used music clips to create the music however, I still aimed to create a music track that added to the feel of the short film which was a Sci-Fi
  • 4.
Proposal 4 Comedy film. Theknowledge I acquired from garage band will be a great asset in the FMP as I intend to make a music track for the FMP experiments and create another one for the trailer when it is time to edit it however, my lack of knowledge in this area may prove to be a bit of an issue. I haven’t learned any new skills for PowerPoint as I only use the text boxes and the occasional shapes in PowerPoint. Despite this, My writing speed did improve to a degree though which definitely effects my time management and should help me out in this regard for the FMP due to the fact that time is very important. Overall this project was very helpful as my main project is a comedy/horror trailer so, the skills that I picked up in Filming, Premiere and Garage Band will definitely be extremely helpful and should make the process of creating the experiments and production an easier challenge to surmount. The only things I did struggle with on this project was the time constraints set on the production as I couldn’t make a decent film with the time that was allotted to me and even went over it accidently during production which led to the film having to be cut in half as well as losing some of the shots that I had in the product originally. Due to this mistake, I have learned from my failures and have decided to plan the trailer more thoroughly when it comes to the Pre-Production. My thoughts and feelings on this project as a whole is good as I enjoy doing short film quite a lot which is why I ended up picking it for my FMP and also because I want to specialize in it as well. The things that I enjoyed the most were the both the filming and editing as filming is really fun and it’s interesting to see what can happen to the product after it has been edited. The skills that I learned from the print project which is the last project before the FMP were mostly from Photoshop as this software is quite possibly the easiest software, that is accessible, to use when creating and designing products related to print or animations due to the amount of available tools and how easy it for an amateur to get around the editing software. This software was used to create the front cover for the magazine. The next editing software that I used for this project is In Design which was used to create the double page spread for the magazine. This software was trickier to use compared to Photoshop and Wix but, I did get by when using it. The last software that I used for this project was Wix and this was actually design software that can be found on the internet and does not need to be installed to your computer. I found this software very useful when it came to making a website for my print project because of the tools that I will list shortly. The new tools that I learned on Photoshop include the burn tool, dodge tool, magic wand tool, healing brush tool, sharpen tool and the lasso tool as well as the other skills and tools that I have learnt this year. This project also helped finalize the development of my Photoshop skills, especially regarding print work which will definitely help me during the process of creating both the experimental poster and experimental DVD cover for my FMP as well as the final DVD cover and poster that I will be making for this project. I personally found In Design to be fairly difficult to use for this project as it was much more complicated and a lot of the tools were vastly different from Photoshop, which led to me not really using any of the tools that In Design had to offer with the exception of the selection tool, gradient tool and text tool as I found these tools to be fairly easy to use compared to the other tools listed as they were quite different compared to the ones on Photoshop. This is made worse when considering the fact that I personally won’t be using In Design at all for my FMP and I didn’t expect too either so, a lot it didn’t really stick with me but, I won’t be using it anyway so, I won’t have to worry about the lack of skills that I learned from this particular software. I didn’t actually pick up any tools to use from Wix but, I did learn some skills for website building and these were being able to organise the text and images for the website to look somewhat professional, creating and adding a background, which was made in Photoshop and being able to create a sale page that works to some degree. The only skills that will be useful for my FMP are the organisational skills I developed when designing the website and the Photoshop skill to create the background however, the latter does not necessarily count as a skill that I have picked up from Wix but it does help with organising my FMP and creating some interesting backgrounds. In terms of time management I haven’t really changed that much from my last project and in some instances, my time management may have gotten slightly worse as well such as when finding some research and when evaluating the project as a whole but, that experience has taught me to spend more time working on projects outside of lesson and this is even more important considering the fact that I want to go for a distinction grade as well. Overall I found this project to be very useful as I have learned quite a bit in terms of Photoshop and developed my organisational skills but, I don’t consider skills learned from In Design to be that helpful as I will not be using it at all during the FMP and I won’t be using Wix either so, The only skills I can really take into account are the ones taken from Photoshop as this is the only software that I plan on using from this project. My overall thoughts and feelings on this particular project were also pretty bad as I don’t really like making
  • 5.
Proposal 5 print work thatmuch compared to the other projects but, it does seem to be less difficult and it makes sense for it to be paired with film which is something that I enjoy doing. The major skills that I plan on taking into the FMP are all the tools and skills from Photoshop that I learned over the course of this year as they will all be very useful when designing both the experimental work and the production work when designing the poster and DVD cover as the knowledge of these tools will allow me to design a visually impressive product by the end of this project. I will also use the tools and skills that I learned from PowerPoint as I need to use these skills for the written work that is required and these skills can also help with Word as well as the skills I have developed from using PowerPoint are simply for written work. The skills that I had developed from Premiere will be very useful for making the trailer for my FMP because, for the same reason that Photoshop is useful, I can create a professional trailer which will help appeal to my target audience. Wix will be semi-useful when designing my products as I learnt how to organise things better and this will be really useful however, the other elements of Wix won’t be useful at all. My time management as a whole this year has been kind of rocky which is mainly to do with my lack of concentration however, I did manage to get everything in on time which gives me some confidence but at the end of the day, I need to improve my time management more if I want to get the work in on time while getting a distinction as well. My thoughts and feelings on the course this year are that I enjoyed it but, I felt that the course was a bit repetitive as having to do 4 projects which use are very setup does get fairly dull by the end of the year and this may affect me negatively this project as the layout not changing at all may lead me to rush some parts out of lack of patience. Review your progress throughout the year- what skills and knowledge have you acquired? How has the subjects you have studied this year informed your choice for this project? What have you studied and how will it have a direct impact upon your project? Project Concept (approx. 200 words) I am planning on making a trailer, poster for the trailer and a DVD cover for what would be the film. The updated plot of the story for this trailer consists of two guys who live in a house in a small town. When their new neighbour jimmy moves in, people all around the neighbourhood begin to disappear at a rather consistent rate which raises the curiosity of the protagonist who starts to look into it. This is made even more difficult when everyone around him doesn’t seem to make the connection and blindly follows jimmy like the ‘good’ neighbour he is. The protagonist ends up bringing his friend into the investigation and he just so happens to be actually dumber than everyone else there and this is the comedic factor in the film. His stupidity continues to annoy the protagonist quite a lot through the film to the point where he openly admits his irritation with it. This leads to a bit of a divide between the characters and this come to an end when his friend finally believes him and they both decide to go after him. The Jimmy on the other hand continues to act like he had nothing to do with it even though he’s constantly seen wearing a mask that would creep Stan out or earn some love from the neighbours. Jimmy continues to allude Stan until the point where both Stan and his friend show up and finally confront him. Jimmy however says he had nothing to do with it even stating that the mask is for fun and his threats were just supposed to be a prank. During his confusion, jimmy is killed by Stan’s roommate and reveals himself to be the taxidermist killer. Stan is also cut down by his friend and is made a part of his collection but before his death, the roommate admits that Stan was truly the only person he considered his friend and wants to keep him forever. The film ends with the roommate tending to Stan and Jimmy while smiling and singing his favourite song. Because I’m short for time, I had to change the concept to a trailer instead. The trailer will take some of the clips into account and make good use of the shots I have already used. I intend on starting the trailer with an establishing shot of the house which will cut to a text frame and move into a medium shot of the roommate and Stan sat on the sofa watching TV. The next scene is Stan asking for a refill on snacks; his roommate reluctantly agrees and the taxidermist killer can be seen in the background of the shot, lurking in the shadows. The trailer will then cut to some shots of the characters commenting on Jimmy’s general appearance and mask with the killer just lurking outside the house, almost as if he is listening in. I don’t know what else to put into the trailer after this however, I should probably add one or two jump scares as I mentioned in the research just to keep my promise to the audience. The DVD and Poster will, of course, be about the film in the sense that they utilize the mask and the characters. I should also make the poster and DVD cover more symbolic as I mentioned in the research so I can appeal to my target audience better. I will need to conduct some research into the horror/comedy genre so, I can find some possible tropes to act as more of a foundation to my product and make it more
  • 6.
Proposal 6 funny or tomake it more horrifying in some areas. I could do a little more audience research to build a more solid foundation to my product so, I can create a product that I more audience friendly. I can also make some layouts for my DVD cover and Poster to help develop a base for my idea and possibly to help test them as ideas. Analysing fonts and colours that I want to use is also another step to help plan and research my product as I can get an idea on what colours and fonts will best suit my product. Creating some tests/experiments will be very helpful as I can test some ideas that I have and see if they work or if they don’t look good. What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make? What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project/ Evaluation (approx. 50 words) I plan on evaluating the work by first of all; Analysing how well I planned my work by looking at my pre-production, initial plans and proposal while also coming to a conclusion on whether or not they are good enough or not while also reflecting on my planning and making notes on how I could improve them. This is followed by analysing how I researched the product and this includes the research PowerPoint, the experiments and some extra tutorials I may have watched. This will also be summarized and include some self-reflection on what I could have done better and how I could have improved them. After this I look at how I managed my time across the whole project and see how this could have been improved and what I would have done with extra time. Getting onto the products I start by comparing my work to existing products that are similar to mine e.g. Comparing my trailer to a professional trailer that is also a horror comedy, a poster that is from a horror/comedy film compared to my poster and my DVD box art compared to another box art. This is helpful because I can analyse each of my film/poster/Box art and see if they are comparable to professional quality. I can also analyse the strengths and weaknesses of my products and see what went wrong or what went well followed by any improvements I could make and how I could apply them for next year. This is useful because I can take a step back to really think about how good my product is and I can boost this up by using my comparison to the other products as a bit of ground to work on. I can also evaluate how well my product appealed to my audience on a whole and I can do this by comparing my work to my audience research in the research PowerPoint along with my audience research in proposal and see if I followed the guidelines that I had set out here. It would also be useful to compare my product with the existing products in Research so, I can see how much inspiration I took or how much I followed the setup of my research products. After this I can use some feedback from my peers to see what was actually wrong with my products as outside opinions help to give an outside opinion on each product so, I can see a different perspective on the film to see if my own criticism is correct or not. This can also help me with developing my work and see what I could have done along with what I would have done. As I am also doing mini evaluations as I go along for each week, I can wrap it up by including a final one reflecting on all the work I have done. How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation and your final self-reflection, analysing your work and its outcomes.
