1. How effective is the combination of your
main product and ancillary tasks?
2. I feel that the main tasks and the ancillary tasks made are a good combination together and
make it all very effective. For both the ancillary tasks there are concepts used that are in
the main product. For example, there are shots in the film that have been used on the film
review and the film poster. This helps link the three together as it is obvious that they are
all for the same film and represent each section of the film as well as the people who are
involved with the film.
Major film productions use the same conventions as their posters and reviews. They both
use images from the film to show the link and to show what the audience will be expecting
to see in the film. The ideology of the film poster and the review give the sense of a young
couple being happy. However, the image of the steering wheel gives the sense that
something bad is going to happen and because the male character is wearing the same
coat, the audience will be able to see that he does something bad, but the audience may not
know that it will be towards his girlfriend. Both of the ancillary tasks show the main
character linking them together and making them more effective. Our film has two main
characters, which are both shown in the ancillary tasks.
3. In the film the representations of gender can be seen differently for each.
Males in ‘Forgetting’ can be shown as being violent, abusive as well as loving and caring towards his
girlfriend. This is a negative outlook for males, as some people might think this in any case and
‘Forgetting’ clearly shows how it can affect anyone.
Females in this film, show how they can be portrayed as being all caring for someone however harsh a
person can be. Aimee, our female character still loves her boyfriend even if he does try to kill her and
attacks her and pushes her down the stairs.
This can be show in all three of my media products that I have created. The film review shows an image
of how happy the couple are and that everything seems fine between them. The film poster however,
shows how woman can be portrayed as being vulnerable and scared of a man who can do this to
someone. The image of Zak in the car holding the steering wheel shows his dominance as he has contro
of what can happen next. This shows his nasty side and shows the audience how he can be represented.
All of this link together as the film shows both and each different side to the male and the female and
how forgiving they can be. This is an effective combination as they are all basic to see and the short
film itself shows everyday characters. They are both at school in the sixth form, but the male
character shows the audience how anyone of any age can attack their girlfriends or any other person.
