LOOKING BACK AT YOUR
PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO
YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNT
IN THE PROGRESSION FROM
IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?
Since the prelim task, I feel that in media terms I
have become more complex, insightful and can
now have a greater impact on the audience. We
have achieved that through editing and clever
camera work. Our prelim task was fairly basic
this is because we were just getting to grips with
the editing software and the different filming
techniques. However since the filming of the
prelim task we have become more experienced
and better at these aspects.
Mise en scene
In our preliminary task our characters and scenery was
not sufficient as it did not show clearly who the
protagonist was and how the scenery linked into the
storyline.
We improved our use of mise-en-scene in our final
opening sequence as we realised how important the
setting and costume is when creating the correct
atmosphere for a thriller.
We also planned the exact locations that our scenes
would take place using research of effective
locations used in other popular thriller films. We did
this because it was one of the factors that we
thought we could improve from our preliminary task
Camera
 Our opening sequence also contains more angles
and shot sizes ans also improved versions of
ones used in our preliminary task. After watching
opening sequences from other thriller films I
realised that keep gain and keep the audiences
interest we need to use exciting and difficult
camera angles. We decided that to achieve this
we would use many high angle shots and
handheld shots to create a feel of panic and
adrenaline which would come across to the
audience. We felt that using these shots would
keep audience guesssing about what was about
to happen and get them hooked to the piece.
Editing
 During the production of our opening sequence I
feel that mine and my partners knowledge and
skills with editing have increase greatlyand given
us a better view how how film works. We have
learnt effects and techniques which can improve
our opening sequence and make it better than
our preliminary task was.We studied many
popular thriller films closely for techniques we
could encorporate into our own pieces. We also
asked fmily and friends about what they expect
and like to see when watching thriller films.
