The author learned several skills from their preliminary task to the full film project. They learned to follow rules like the 180-degree rule and how to quickly learn to use Adobe Premiere Pro. The author also learned to look deeper at thriller films and consider things like mise-en-scene and sound design. Working in a small group was better than a large group to avoid conflicts. The author learned how to work within deadlines and managed actors, locations, costumes and props for the project. Storyboarding was a joint effort between the author and their partner. They stuck closely to the original plan for the film because they felt the strange ending was effective on its own.

Looking back at your preliminary task,
what do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?

2. The preliminary task was something
that didn’t give me too much difficulty.
One obvious rule was the 180-degree
rule, whereas the camera can wander
around the semi circle, but cannot
move out due to the fact that it’d ruin
the audiences perspective.
The program we were using to edit
was Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0, and we
had to learn to use it quickly so as to
move straight on to our main thriller
project.
It wasn’t a long learning process, the
tools were easy enough to use and
editing became something of
simplicity in the months following the
preliminary task.

3. After all this time I’ve learnt to look deeper into thriller movies, to see if even the shots may
resemble some important part of it. Through learning this, me and my partner learned all the
different thing needed for a thriller (e.g. Mise-en scene, lighting, sound (diegetic/non-
diegetic).
Working in a small group served better than working in a
large one due to the fact that there could have been a
conflict of interests and the group might have split
because of this.

4. From this whole project I have learned how to work within certain deadlines, such as
the amount of time we had to film and edit. Though sometimes I found these rather
hard to meet, I still did my best to get it on time be it rushed or not.
The title for the movie was created by
the other member of my group, and we used
it simply because at the end of the sequence
you cannot tell who is bad or who is good.

5. • Managing the actors was a lot easier than previously thought. Thanks to the fact
that they are all friends, it was made very easy to bring them altogether and act
this out. On top of that, they had all previously attended a drama school, Sam
Braverman performed in their version of Blood Brothers.
• Locations were easy to fix. We had the idea for the small road before the project
had even begun, but the second area we filmed in was a lot harder as it was far
busier at times (horses and other cars).
• Costumes were simple, we just got all the actors to wear hoodies.
• The only real prop that was needed was the car, which was driven by one of the
actors and so up for use.

6. The storyboarding too was relatively
easy as well as a joint effort. I couldnt
draw it due to the fact that i’m awful
at drawing, and so my partner did so
as I worked on the script.
We never really left the original plan,
we stuck true to the roots we had set.
The reason that we just kept it as close
to the same as we could was because
we genuinely felt good about this idea,
and the ending itself was strange on
it’s own so as too make even the
audience confused.
