The survey focused on how researchers, lecturers, and information professionals use online resources related to European studies. 122 people responded to questions about which websites, services, and sources they use most often. The majority conduct research in law, politics, and international relations. Most respondents considered themselves highly skilled online researchers who use EU information sources every day or weekly. The most popular websites were Europa, EUR-Lex, journals, search engines, and news sites. Respondents felt EU online services could be improved by enhancing search functions and maintaining two interfaces - one for public users and one for researchers.

The University of Glasgow Library developed a strategy to deliver mobile services over multiple phases.
Phase 1 involved developing a mobile catalogue, implementing QR codes, testing instant messaging and e-books, and conducting user surveys. Based on survey findings that most use mobile internet for email, social media and browsing, the top requested services were searching articles, checking out books and reading e-books.
Phase 2 will focus on improving the mobile website, expanding access to e-resources beyond e-books, using QR codes in physical locations, teaching digital skills, and utilizing mobile devices to improve workflows. The digital transformation of scholarly communication through electronic resources has significantly impacted academic libraries and their users. It has led to unsustainable inflation in the costs of journals and other periodicals. In response, libraries have had to shift spending away from print to growing expenditures on electronic resources. They have also developed new strategies and services to help users effectively navigate and utilize the growing array of digital information.
Digital access on campus
A survey of 30 students at Varsity College in Cape Town found that most students had access to a computer but only 59% had internet access at home. Students without computer or internet access most often used the university library as an alternative. While most students felt comfortable using the internet independently, only a third rated their internet skills as excellent. Those without full computer and internet access were less likely to rate their skills as excellent. Regular access to technology appears to increase students' confidence in their digital skills.

The Claremont Consortium administers a biennial survey to the approximately 5,000 Sakai-using undergraduate and graduate students in its member institutions [Claremont McKenna College, Claremont Graduate University, Harvey Mudd College, Keck Graduate Institute, Pitzer College, Pomona College and Scripps College]. The presentation summarizes findings from the 2008 and 2010 surveys. We identify changes in student use of Sakai; student assessment of the benefits and drawbacks of courses that use Sakai; which tools students find most useful in their courses as well as tool usage patterns, and student suggestions to improve Sakai and the ways that it is used in their classes.

It provides free virtual reference services via email, answering over 50,000 questions from over 32,000 registered users in its first decade. However, the number of questions declined in 2009. In 2011, the website and services were improved with a new interface and features like social media integration. A 2014 survey found the audience was fairly evenly split between men and women, with over half aged 30-59. Younger users are declining as an area of focus, so engaging more on social networks is seen as a way to reach younger audiences.

Recent surveys found that students and faculty want improved access to electronic resources and better information literacy skills, which Intute aims to address through its evolving services.

1) The majority use online EU information every day, relying most on the Europa portal, journals, and search engines.
2) Respondents considered the Europa portal and EUR-Lex to be the top websites due to finding needed information, quality content, and being free.
3) The main issues with EU online services were them being complex and hard to navigate, and information not always being available. Over half felt the new Europa site was easier to use.
4) Suggested improvements included better search engines and analyzing traffic to prioritize navigation and available information.
ActGo-Gate project Polish market research
The Wrocław University of Economics as part of the ActGo-Gate project analyzed the needs of potential users of the platform for the exchange of services mainly through cooperation and study on seniors associated in Universities of the Third Age and senior clubs. Within the Polish research the potential of the national market of ICT solutions for people aged 50+ was analyzed in detail. The research work in particular included identifying the seniors’ needs, expectations and readiness for the practical application of the ICT platform for the exchange of services. For this purpose an analysis and description of economic, social and technological conditions were made, a model for implementation of ICT solutions in this area was proposed and implementation aspects were presented in the context of non-functional and functional requirements defined after the target group analysis in the partner countries. Morover, very extensive qualitative and quantitative studies of seniors in Poland have been carried out, the effects of which have been presented in the following presentation.
Stimulating interest in IT among young people in Europe
Young people are increasingly using technology but showing decreasing interest in careers in IT and STEM fields. This is due to various influencing factors from parents, peers, teachers, and culture. Both the EU and countries are taking actions to improve digital literacy and use technology in education. A new multi-stakeholder e-Skills career portal was launched to provide information and services to students and educators about IT skills and careers. The goal is to continue expanding the portal's content and partnerships to better support and inform students.

Opportunities and challenges in e-democracy
