2. DISCUSSION
• Principles of geography relate to ethnicity and
political activity throughout the world. Ethnicity is
important in geography because ethnic groups are
often tied to particular places.
• Geography and political
science are inherently connected
simply because political power, whether it is
despotic or democratic has the ability to
influence people within its jurisdiction, and it act as
an agent of the political body for interactions with
other political entities.
3. ETHNICITY AND RACE
Race refers to the sharing of a common genetic
ancestor and hence has a biological basis. Usually
race is categorized by physical traits such as skin
color.

4. • An ethnic group or ethnicity is a grouping of
people who identify with each other on the basis
of shared attributes that distinguish them from
other groups such as a common set of
traditions, ancestry, language, history, society,
culture, nation, religion, or social treatment within
their residing area.
5. • Rubenstein describes ethnicity as '' identity
with group of people who share the culture
traditions of a particular homeland''. 1
