Ethics
Moral principles that govern a person's or
group's behavior.
The moral correctness of specified conduct.
Laws
Laws are the enforceable body of official
rules and regulations, established by people in
authority who use them to govern the affairs
of people in a society. Sanctions are usually
used as punishment for those who do not
adhere to the laws of the society.
Entertainment media
programming Non-news programming;
includes motion pictures; radio and television
talk shows; television dramas, sitcoms,
"reality" TV, and game shows.
The main areas of entertainment industry are
Film
Drama
Music
Stage/ theater
Fashion etc
Core assumption of ethics and laws of Islamic
republic of Pakistan
As Pakistan is the only country which comes
into being on the base if Islam.
According to the wording of Quid e Azam
“Pakistan will be the labor try to practice
Islamic system”
Cont….
The objective to generate revenue distracted
the attention of our media persons. The battle
to get high ratings through sensitizing the
news story and ultimately obtaining a huge
amount of TV commercials have severely
defocused our newsmen. Footage of very
sensitive materials are at times used
repeatedly to grab public attention.
Fashion industry
Introduction
A popular trend, esp. in styles of dress,
ornament, or behavior
In 1943, the first New York Fashion Week was
held, with one main purpose: to distract
attention from French fashion during World
War II
Fashion industry in Pakistan
Pakistan Fashion Design Council based
in Lahore organizes Fashion Week and Fashion
Pakistan based in Karachi organizes fashion
shows in that city Pakistan’s first fashion week,
held in November 2009.
Fashion accessories can be loosely
categorized into two general areas
1. Those that are carried
2. Those that are worn

Stage drama
What is stage drama?
Stage drama is written to be performed on
stage. The abiding challenge in reading a script
is to constantly frame all elements contained
within this script in terms of PERFORMANCE.
Punjabi stage drama is one of the major
cultural aspects of our culture. We had an
audience that come to stage for a healthy
entertainment
Cont….
dramas like ‘janam janam ki maili chadar’
which broke the record for the longest run
stage play and we had artists of the caliber of
Umer Sharif doing theatre which not only
provided entertainment but also possessed
the ability to educate and spread awareness
amongst the masses.
Now a days it has become a place for the an
adult dance and I cant find a better word for
Juggat Bazi. First we had a drama that had a
story and entertainment but now it has
nothing in it.
Cont……..
 Stage of today promote obscene or indecent or is likely
to deprave, corrupt or injure the public morality
 Language which is used in stage dramas are vulgar and
indecent.
 Inviting gestures' and exposing dressing are become the
trade mark of stage now a days.
 The content is strictly adult and not a family entertainment by
any standards.
Drama industry
DRAMA
A play for theater, radio, or television.
Dramas are instrumental in shaping a person’s
mind and attitude. People put much of what is
being shown through the dramas into
practice.
Drama in Pakistan
During the decades of the 1970s, 1980s and
1990s, PTV dramas and teleplays were
considered as the best in the Indian subcontinent
Types of Drama
1. Solo play
2. Series
3. Serial
4. Soap opera
Types of drama in term of mood
1. Comedy
2. Tragedy
3. satire
Ethical Violation by Drama
industry
Men are shown as authoritative and decision
makers whereas the woman is shown as stupid
and unable to take decisions.
The dramas are far from depicting the reality.
There is too much foreign and Indian impact
on our culture
Dramas left negative impact on our society
such as hatred, jealousy, greed and revenge.
These behaviors entered our houses and
females of our country were largely affected.
substandard plays also influenced the fashion
sense of our people.
Major content of to days drama is vulgar and
indecent.
Dramas are promoting religious sect and
ethnic discrimination.
Language which is mostly used is
abusive and taunting.
Mostly plots of drama is based on undermine
some specific groups or societies.
Drams plays a big role in producing violence
and sensationalism
Violates cultural values.
Although dramas are never caught going
against ideology of Pakistan but mostly found
indirectly hurting public sentiments .
Dramas are violating public and organizational
laws.
Although its good to highlight social issues in
dramas but when it comes to women and
childes drama producers should have to be
mare careful and moderate .
Many dramas are highlighting drift in foreign
relation of Pakistan.
FILM
industry
What is Film?
A film, also called a movie or motion
picture, is a series of still images
which, when shown on a screen,
creates the illusion of moving images
First film was the French film which
was a silent movie in 1890’s
Film in Pakistan
Pakistan produced its first feature
film,Teri Yaad on 7
August, 1948, premièring at the
Parbhat Theatre in Lahore.
Golden age(Ayub Khan)
Pakistan saw the introduction of first
colour films. Some that share the status
of being firsts are Munshi Dil's Azra in
early 1960s, Zahir Raihan's Sangam
(first full-length coloured film) released
on 23 April 1964, and Mala (first
coloured cinemascope film).
Pakistan produced many
memorable movies
• Pakistani cinema from its glory
days fell to depths of irrevocable
decline in the 90’s despite recent
efforts to resuscitate it, it is next
to impossible to restore it to what
it once was…
the CBFC recently allowed import of foreign
films to be showcased in local cinemas after
due censorship. This brings us to the point
of discussion… what exactly are the
censorship policies pertaining to the Paki-
cinema?
Volition by Film industry
. Pakistan’s first R-rated
movie was ‘Zinda Lash’ a
horror movie starring the
legendary Nadeem
First adult rated film was
‘Neela Parbat’ released in
1969 which marked the
end of the golden era of
Pakistani cinema.
Pakistani local productions are
completely violating the first and
foremost rule of CBFC i.e. glorifying
crime and criminals etc
Pakistani films are producing status
sensitivity among viewers and hence
increasing crime rate. Also promoting
vulgarity
Foreign productions which are being
shown on Pakistani cinemas is
hurting national interests.
• Pakistani films Contains dialogues,
songs, speeches, dances, jokes or
gesture which are obviously vulgar
obscene or indecent.
• As CBFC has allowed foreign films to
show case which are undermining our
consepts of islam.
• Not only forigen productions local
productions are also doing so.
Damaging foreign
relations
1. Bombay Wallah
2. Shaheed
Some steps by censor board
and viewpoints
1. Banning Bin Laden
2. If Donald Duck is not a threat, why
is Hanuman?
3. Say no to Mathira: Ban vulgarity
not art
4. No stupid, banning Indian films will
not help Pakistani films
5. Agent Vinod: Another sign of Pak-
India tensions?
Ethics and laws
The authorities’ initiative to impose
censorship through legislative means dates
back to the Public Safety Act Ordinance
imposed in October 1948, and later, in 1952,
ratified by the first Constituent Assembly of
Pakistan as the Safety Act,
Chaudary Muhammad husain and
Muhammad hasan ‘Askari
Sadat hassan manto

CBFC
The main function of the Central Board of Film Censors
is to examine suitability of films for public exhibition or
otherwise under the guidelines provided by the Federal
Government in the shape of film censorship code.
 Producers of locally produced films have the option to
apply for Censorship of their films to any of the office
of the Board at Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi whereas
imported films are examined by the Board only at
Islamabad.
Films belonging to Foreign Missions are also examined
at Islamabad.
While examining films, the CBFC eliminates public exhibition of a film or any part
thereof which is likely to:
I. Impair accepted moral standards and social value by
glorification of vice or crime:
II. Give offence to any section of the public or injured
the feelings of any class of persons:
III. Hurt national sentiments:
IV. Contains dialogues, songs, speeches, dances, jokes
or gesture which are obviously vulgar obscene or
indecent:
V. Undermines Islam: or
VI. Ridicules, disparages or attacks any religious sect
caste and creed.
conclusion
Entertainment on television is presently
confined to unoriginal productions which vary
from soaps to sitcoms and music shows; all of
which lack inventiveness. If the present trend
continues we will lose market for home grown
talent.

Pakistan is a cultural hub, a conglomerate of ancient
arts, cultural values and talented individuals. The
entertainment media needs to open up to new ideas
and creativeness, youth should be given a chance to
come forward and the audience needs to make
intelligent choices. Focus should be on content rather
than quantity; target audience surveys should be
conducted to meet public demand yet at the same
time moulding this demand to higher standards, only
then can the media entertainment industry can serve
both facets of its purpose i.e. entertainment with a
purpose.
