Hollywood movies, less than one percent of Americans live in wealth akin to kings
or queens or other monarchies. For example, as a child I lived in a home sans
modern plumbing. Such homes were called dry homes , which were built during the
depression era. As children, my siblings and I transported water from a faucet in the
front yard into the house for drinking, washing dishes, and bathing. The sole
plumbing indoors was the toilet; and, similar to those depicted in western movies,
we had a wash pan and water pitcher inlieu of a bathroom basin. For winter months,
we were always careful to insulate the faucet pipes to prevent freezing so we would
have water during the cold seasons.
Needless to say, as an adult, I have a respect for water and an appreciation for
modern plumbing. In light of these facts, I would reason that my personal impact on
the water cycle are at most minimal. In our home we are careful not to waste water.
For example, a filled half gallon BPA free bottle displaces about one third of the
water in the toilet tank, which conserves water with each use. Another example
would be the use of a dishpan instead of the dishwasher that conserves substantial

Have you ever heard of extermination camps? Well, you are about to find out what
they are. Extermination camps are where people were mass killed. There were six of
these extermination camps. These extermination camps were all located throughout
German occupied Europe. The Holocaust was a very traumatic event that caused an
eye opener for humans about how bad the extermination camps could have been.
Auschwitz was a concentration complex used and built by the Nazis during World
War II. Auschwitz is located in present day Polandknown as Silesia. In October of
1939, construction of the Auschwitz Birkenau expansion began. The Nazis used slave

The authorities at the Sobibor killing center consisted of a small staff of German
SS and police officials between 20 and 30. The Sobibor killing center was divided
into three parts, an administration area, a reception area, and a killing area(Sobibor).

socially and globally aware of what is going on around them. Canada s immigration
Act and system helps our country be more culturally diverse, it increases economic
growth, and make s Canada a safer place to be which we can call our home. Along
with new migrants coming every year, therefore ethnic communities are massively
increasing by population and size.
The Tamil community is a relatively new group. Some Tamils settled in Canada as
early as the 1960s, coming as independent immigrants. The vast majority, however,
arrived in Canada after 1983 in the aftermath of the 1983 Colombo riots in Sri Lanka.
In 1983, the Canadian government took Tamils into Canada under humanitarian and
compassionate consideration. At the same time, a visa requirement was imposed on
Sri Lankans, making it very difficult to get here legally. In 1986, Minister s permits
were granted to some refugees allowing them to remain in Canada. Today Tamils
continue to make up one of the largest group of refugees seeking asylum in Canada.
Ten percent of the persons seeking asylum in Canada in 1999 originated from Sri
Lanka. The majority of population has made Toronto its new home with figures as
high as 200,000+, of which the population has been divided into suburban areas that
consist of City of Toronto (Scarborough Community), Markham, Vaughan,
