How Did Larry Ellison Create His Own Business
Larry Ellison claimed that He had to create his own business because he knew he hadn t the
patience to work for anyone else This stubborn attitude of his was the leading factor that caused
him to drop out of college twice as a young adult. The first time Ellison dropped out of college
was after two years of attending The University of Illinois at Urbana, Champagne. He then
traveled to Berkeley to work as a programmer prior to re enrolling in collegeat University of
Chicago. However after dropping out a second time (after just one semester) in 1966 Ellison had
no place left to go and returned to California. His return to California initiated his computer
related work for major tech companies. Ellison s drive for success lead him to major CEO
positions of large corporations. His employment at Ampex Corp., an audio and studio equipment
company located in Sunnyvale, CA, was where he met the two other men, Edward Oates and
Robert Miner, who would become his business partners in the founding or Oracle Corporation

Acids Bases Ph Lab
Experiment 5 titled Acids, Bases, Salt, and pH . The purpose of this lab is to become familiar
with some properties of salt, bases, and acids, measure acidity (pH), and correlate abnormal
acidity of blood or urine. The activities for this lab is to measure the pH of some acid solutions
and base solutions using pH paper/meter, and neutralize an acidsolution by reacting with base
solutions. To begin this experiment (Acid), there will be bottles of different acids (hydrochloric,
nitric acid, sulfuric, and acetic acids) on top of the bench. Place one drop of each acid on a blue
and red litmus paper and then place a drop of each liquid on (pH) paper. Record the observations.

Mere Christianity Chapter 1 Summary
This month we were assigned to read the last book of Mere Christianity. Chapter one talks about
God s relation to us as followers of Christ. Chapter two discusses the Trinity, and how even
though there are three parts he is a personal God. Chapter three addressed God with time. God is
not in the past or future, but he is in the present. Chapter four sets up the chapter with an image of
two books stacked on each other. These books are a symbol of Godas a father and as a son, and
along with this he discusses God s love for us. Chapter five addresses how God breathes life into
us, because before we were lifeless. Chapter six brings attention to what is discussed in chapter
five, but it also talks about God in relation to the human race as a whole.... Show more content on

I found this section of reading repetitive. In this portion of the reading C.S Lewis is wrapping up
the loose ends of his discussion on Christianity. Even though I struggled a bit to get through this
reading I still pulled out some interesting points from the reading. One chapter of the book that I
enjoyed is chapter eight. Chapter eight discusses if Christianity is hard or easy. I found this
chapter to appeal to me most because it is something I am very passionate about. During all three
of my group s meetings I have discussed how throughout the book C.S Lewis made it a point to
recognize that Christianity is not a walk in the park. C. S Lewis says in chapter 8, The Christian
way is different: harder, and easier. Christ says Give me All. I don t want so much of your time
and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you (pg. 196). I think this quote
sums up Christianity because it is not about if your walk with the Lord is easy or hard because
everyone s faith is different. At the end of the day the Lord wants all of you and it is as simple
as that. Along with this C.S Lewis tied in a lot of imagery throughout the chapters of this book.
He brings imagery with the books, the to soldiers, and by referencing the story of Beauty and the
Beast.BY using this imagery C.S Lewis was able to captivate the reader s attention. All in all, this
book had moments where it would drag, but then Lewis would say something to draw in the

On The Zebra Mussel
The reading claims that the zebra mussel can be a critical threat to freshwater fish population in
all of North America. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some
evidence to refute them all. First, the author argues that the history has showed that the invasion
of the zebra mussel can be stoppable. Conversely, the lecturer underlines the fact that it is true
which in the past the invasion of the zebra mussel in the new location in which it had been
carried to was impossible to control because of lack of knowledge. Nowadays, when a ship
travels through the ocean, it will empty the water in which is in the place which it arrives. If they
fill the ship with the water of ocean, it will kill the zebra mussel before releasing

Character Development In Rodman Philbrick s Freak The Mighty
In chapters 6 and 7 of Philbrick s thrilling novel, Freak the Mighty, two misfits that met in
daycare, reunite in junior high and become courageous to overcome obstacles. Philbrick uses
exquisite tone and mood to persuade strong character development, and help readers understand
the character s bond. Rodman Philbrick s use of mood and tone show that two heads can be
better than one. Maxwell and Freak are being approached by the town bullies, Tony D. also known
as Blade, and his gang. Philbrick uses a tone of intimidation to exemplify Tony. Kevin confidently
confronts Tony, Hey what! And he moves right in front of Freak. Want to say that again, little freak

My First Year In High School
Have you ever looked up from whatever you were doing and see the girl that you want to spend
your whole life with, the girl who shares some characteristics with you, who is looking right at
you, but you are too scared to say or do anything? It was autumn and the air was cold and crisp.
The bell just rang Kotaro! Let s go, don t wantto be late to class on the first day of school! Yama
said with excitement in his voice. I ll be right there! I said as I packed my belongings into my
backpack. This is my third year in high school, and next year is my last, so I have to make these
days count. As I walked towards the school entrance, leaves were blown into the air by the wind
and the smell of oak wood trees filled my lungs. There were students everywhere enlightened to get
to class; the sound of autumn leaves crackling when students stepped on them made a very
satisfying sound to new. I could still taste the flavour of my peanut buttersandwich that I had this
morning for breakfast; It was quite cold out, so I had my hands inside my pocket, gasping for
warmness. Hey Yama! I m here, let s head to class now. I said. Yeah Kotaro, I m so happy that
we have our first class together! Yama said excitedly. Yes, I m happy for us too! My sophomore
and freshmen ear consisted of mostly C s and D s because I put too much time into my novels. I
m a very quiet person, and Yama is like my only friend, but I plan to make more friends this year.
I often think about my future but can t express it to anyone but Yama because I m a very shy person.
Classroom number 46, history. We re here Kotaro! Let s see who our teacher is and meet our
classmates. Yama said as we stepped into the classroom. There were two empty seats in the front
of the class, so that s where we decided to sit. Our teacher is a girl and her name is Ms. Azumi. She
made me and Yama introduce ourselves and so we did.
Salutations, my name is Kotaro and I m a junior. I said shyly.
Goodmorning, my name is Yama and I m a junior as well! He said loudly and happily. After school
ended, I waved goodbye to Yama as he walked home. My first day back at school felt great even
though nothing special happened. I ve never felt this good on the first day of

Early Psychosis Intervention ( Epi ) Program Essay
Once hospitalized, SC was enrolled in the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Program. This pilot
provides timely treatment for individuals under 25 who are newly diagnosed, or have untreated
psychosis (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2016). SC met these criteria. EPI is based on the idea that if
psychosis is recognized and treated early, interventions can limit the potential for ongoing negative
consequences (BC Early PsychosisIntervention Program, 2016). Although this was SC s fourth
hospitalization, this was her first time on the EPI. By not being treated effectively on her first
admission, her chances of success were reduced. A substantial barrier for EPI is a client s delay, or
refusal to access services (BC SchizophreniaSociety, 2012). SC had not been ready to accept
treatment during previous admissions. Lappin et al. (2016) also argue that there needs to be
available services specifically for young adults early in their illness that also have particular
interventions for drug related psychosis. This addictions component is not specifically addressed in
the current EPI model. However, it specifically targets young adults.
As well as additional monitoring of EPI, SC was being stabilized through medications. Her
pharmaceutical interventions included suboxone to treat substance dependence, gabapentin as a
mood stabilizer, olanzepine for psychosis and zopiclone for insomnia (Vallerand, Sanoski, Deglin,
2015). However, only offering abstinence rather than a harm

How Does Bee Population Affect Society
Slide 1 I was inspired by the stimulus document A World without Work, by Derek Thompson. In the
document, Derek talks about the social and economic concerns with machines replacing factory
workers, but he completely ignores the environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I
wanted to focus on an environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help
solve.
Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the diminishing bee
population in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And after my research, I have concluded that
America should actually become involved and stabilize the bee population, keeping them from
going extinct.
Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my argument and
the topic as a whole includes the importance of bees in our lives. Bees, and other pollinators,
pollinate a third of the world s crops that help feed multiple organisms. Every one bite of food
out of three can be traced back to involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying
rapidly due to CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder. This natural disease was first recorded in 2006
in Pennsylvania by a beekeeper. After this report, more beekeepers noticed similar occurrences of
smaller colonies thus beginning the concern over a diminishing bee population. The disease
causes most bees in the colony to die off and only leave the queen, and a few worker bees. ... Show

Why Did Farmers Express Discontent During 1870-1900 and...
Why did farmers express discontent during 1870 1900 and what impact did their attitudes and
actions have on national politics. Manufacturing hit a huge growth rate during this period which
cause agriculture to decline, and cause farmers to struggle to make a living. The farmers were now
being abused by the railroad companies and banks. The documents in DBQ 8 show rationality for
the farmer s protests, exclusively on bank mortgage tariffs and the gold standard. Two particular
groups became popular during this period and that would be the Grangers and the Populist Party.
Farmers fought against the Gold Standard, railroads, and industrialist during this period causing lots
of confrontation. Document G displays how much manufacturing... Show more content on

It was originally opposed by Northern manufacturers, who feared the loss of inexpensive labor;
and Southern slaveholders, who feared the development of free soil. It was intended to branch
Western immigration, but numerous frontiersmen would fail and arrive home. The Homestead
Act provided settlers with 160 acres of surveyed public land. By living on the property for five
years and improving it, a small fee would grant the settler the land. This served as a way to
encourage the development of the family farm and fill in the normally unoccupied region in the
Great Plains in which railroads facilitated this growth. Because of the severe environmental
circumstances of the Great Plain region, the Homestead Act turned out to be less effective than
anticipated. Document B talks about how it was also hard for colored farmers to make a living
especially after the Civil War. They had to get the local merchant or someone else to supply the
food for the family to eat while the first crop was being made. (Document B) After the Civil War
they didn t have much land and many became homesteaders who were given 160 acres along with
regulations they must follow. Only 40% of the applicants actually completed the process and were
given the extra land promised for them completion of 160 acres. However many found it difficult to

abortion annually (Negedu, 2011). pregnancies are either mistimed or unwanted among
adolescents. Studies in the past have Indicated that, lack of adequate sexual and reproductive
health knowledge may possibly represent a key factor preventing the complete elimination of
unwanted pregnancies, and unsafe induced abortion among adolescent girls in Nigeria. According
to Ipas(2005) unplanned pregnancies are the result of various factors, including lack of knowledge
about menstruation and pregnancy, lack of access to, and knowledge about how to use
contraceptives; difficulties in using contraceptives because of a partner s or family objections;
contraceptive failure; and sexual assault. Also, adolescents may more often delay seeking care for
abortion related complications due to lack of transportation, lack of knowledge about where post
abortion care can be obtained, fears of censure from their parents and healthcare providers, fear of
legal repercussions, or lack of money to pay for services (Ipas, 2005). This may be particularly so
in rural communities where access to basic in frastructural facilities remain low and inadequate

Compare and contrast essay Of Mice and Men
The Story Of Mice and Men is about two buddies that go on to find work or any kind of income.
The only problem is that lennie, one of the main characters, has a mental disability. Thankfully
George, the other main character also lennie s best friend, is around to help lennie. In the story
more characters come into play including a nice old man named candy who has been working
on the farm for many years. Like George candy has to take care of his old dog that he raised
from a pup. Unfortunately one of Candy s so called buddies took the dog out and shot him for the

have some similarities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now in the story there are many similarities between candy and George besides there need to get
away and deal with hard choices in life. But no matter what character there are always some
differences. One of the differences between the characters George and Candy is that candy likes
to think ahead and plan for his future while George on the other hand would rather make a dream
and fulfill it as soon as possible. A sample would be when George first proposed the plan that they
shall live on their own farm making their own money Candy thought George was crazy. But when
George showed that he was serious Candy joined right on board. Showing that It took some time
for Candy to agree because he thought about how it would affect his life when George just went on
the same road till his dream was fulfilled.
In the end there are some similarities and some differences just how it was meant to be. Nothing
will ever be the exact same no matter what you are comparing. Anything like comparing Coke to
Pepsi or flat screen and a tube TV nothing will ever be the exact same. In the end I guess that the
characters are more alike than different or the opposite depending on how you are viewing them.
Overall though Candy and George look like they will have a bright future together no matter on
how alike or how different they

Three Examples Of Saturated Fats
Lactose intolerance and Fats
What are saturated fat; three examples of saturated fats
These are fat that is made up of atoms that are very dense and the hydrogen atoms fully join with
carbon atoms with no double bonds. This makes the carbon atoms in the fat s molecular structure to
be fully saturated with hydrogen atoms. Three examples of saturated fats are; 1) Butyric acid milk
(especially buffalo, goat, and sheep), butter, Parmesan cheese. 2)Lauric acid coconut oil, palm
kernel oil, laurel oil. 3) Myristic acid nutmeg, coconut oil, palm kernel oil and butterfat.
(Wikipedia,2015)
What are unsaturated fats; three examples of saturated fats:
Unsaturated fat is a fatty acid that has one or more double bonds. These double bonds eliminates
hydrogen atom from the molecular fatty acid chain. This makes unsaturated fats unsaturated with

Trans fat are more commonly man made from vegetable oil. The vegetable oil are heated or
hydrogenated to create the trans fat. Three examples of foods that use trans fat are margarine,
biscuit and frozen pizza. (Wikipedia,2015)
Why might food producers add hydrogen atoms to a vegetable oil
They would do this because vegetable oils are unsaturated with hydrogen atoms; by adding
hydrogen atoms to the vegetable oil; it will make the liquid vegetable oils into solid or semi
solid fats. This will make the vegetable oil fat more dense and thus make it more desirable for use
in baking. The dense properties are more desirable for use in baking because of the more wanted
texture vs the texture that would be made with the natural unsaturated vegetable oils. (wikipedia,

How Is Hamlet Selfish
The Bible says Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is
written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay. (Romans 12:19). In modern society, most people do not
think about revenge as a bad thing, but rather as a natural part of life. Sometimes it is viewed
down upon and questioned by those with high moral standards, or when a person wants revenge
so severe that it would require blood to be shed. This was the case for Hamletin the play Hamlet, by
Shakespeare. After finding out his father had been killed by his Uncle, who had taken over the
throne of Denmark, he is filled with anger and hatred, along with a feeling of self loathing.
Throughout the course of the play, Hamlet pretends to be a madman so he can have his way,
questions deathand what comes after dying, and wonders if he should actually killanother human

During the first act of the play, after he found out his uncle, Claudis, killed his father, he was
enraged. This is demonstrated during his conversation with the ghost of his father when he says
Haste me to know t , that I, with wings as swift / As meditation or the thoughts of love / May
sweep to my revenge (1.5 31 37). By saying this, Hamlet acknowledges that he is ready to kill
and is not afraid of what follows. However, somewhere in his line of reasoning, he questions
whether killing a person is morally justified. He comes up with multiple reasons on why not to kill
him, one being that the king is praying and he wants to send him to hell, not to heaven. Eventually,
his resolve hardens when he sees Fortinbras s army march across Denmark, and makes the remark:
That, for a fantasy and trick of fame

Classical Elements Of The Military Essay
Classical elements of our military are organizational structure, principles of organizational reward,
the machine metaphor, and the theory of bureaucracy. Many theories of management have military
backgrounds that date back to the beginning of history to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and
Napoleon. All of these leaders became successful through their efficiency to lead, line of command,
unity, and division of work. The United States Militaryis divided into five branches of service. The
Army is the the oldest branch of the military, and focuses on defending the country and is the
main fighting force of the military. The Air Force works with the Army and is in charge of all of
the satellites and nuclear missiles. The Navy ensures equal freedom in the oceans around the
world, and protects the interests of our nation to be free. Marine Corps are the first ones to battle,
and are responsible for delivering tasks on ground, sea, and in the air. The Coast Guard is
responsible for boating safety and rescue, law enforcement, and controlling illegal immigration
(Hewes 2005). These are the building blocks behind the reason why our military is so successful
and powerful. In 1775, before our nation was established as a Country, colonists were organized
into miscellaneous militias with no distinct structure or organization of a unified hierarchy. George
Washington recognized the missing piece to the puzzle, and how the Continental Army would
conquer and win the Revolutionary War.

This method allows you to blend two or more colours slowly and easily together with the help of
sponges. It is basically used to make galaxy of colours and gradients on nails.
First you can apply a colour of choice on your nail then select another colour to apply a gradient
or a galaxy on it after that you can also apply stamping on it for giving a unique look. You can also
use taping method and apply sponge technique on uncovered nail.
DOTTING
Dotting nail art method requires a specially designed nail art tool or nail art stick. With the help
of this tool we can apply design of your choice manually on your nail by dipping that tool in nail
paint. You can apply some common designs like dots, stripes, lines, rows, flowers etc. You can also
add Sponge and stamping technique combination also for giving your nail art a unique look.
TAPING
This method allows you to add designs on the tape by punching the shape of your choice on tape.
Then you can paint your nail with the base colour, when it dries apply the punched tape on it.
Then you will apply the secondary colour of choice on punched area and after that you can remove
the tape and you will see a shape that you have punched is there in different colour. With this
method you can create laser, half moon, zigzags, lines, hearts

Analysis Of The Movie Truman Show
What would you feel like if you found out that your whole life was fake and it was all for
television? The Truman Show is a film where a man for his whole life has been filmed for the
entertainment of others and doesn t even realize that he is on camera at all times. There are a few
scenes that will be discussed whether the scene is able to provide a religious experience.
The Truman Show is about a man named Truman Burbank. Before he was even born a large
corporation adopted him to use as the main character for their television show. Throughout the
movie, Truman slowly starts to notice that things seem a little odd and that the world around him
doesn t make sense. By the end of the movie, he knows that his life is fake even though no one told
him at the time that his world is fake.
The first scene that we will be looking at is the very first scene of the movie. In the scene we see
a man talking to us. He is the director of The Truman Show, he talks about how while the world
around Truman is fake Truman s emotions are real and genuine and that nothing about Truman is
fake in any way. Since the director created and runs the television show he can be seen as the
holy or divine because he created this world and can control every aspect of it. This scene asks the
questions is there a higher being. The director can be seen as a godly figure because he controls the
environment and the actions of everyone around Truman. Since everyone are actors on a tv show
then that means that all

Taking a Look at Hydroelectric Energy
Hydro electric energy (hydropower) has been in existence for more than 2000 years ago, which
was firstly used for milling, grain, pumping of water and so many more before been used for
energy generation. Hydroelectricity is another form of electricity that is produced by using water
as the resource for generation, this simply means that when water is released (flow), it is aided
by gravitational force therefore it generates Kinetic Energy (KE) which is converted into
mechanical energy by assistance of turbines and generators which convert the mechanical energy
into electrical energy which is then transferred to power lines in that form. South Africa, like
many other developing countries have electricity challenges and one company in South Africa
have been the leader in terms of ensuring that South Africa is powered by hydro electric energy,
among other alternative such of power. The company is Eskom, South African largest producer of
electrical energy, since it was established in 1923. Eskom have committed to promote health
environmental programs in line with the guideline of UNFCCC, and in its COP 17 fact sheet
Eskom states thus: Eskom provides 95% of South Africa s electricity . The main source of Eskom s
electricity generation is thermal power plants. And even though according to electricity web link,
Eskom disclose that, the company relies on coal fired power stations, to produce more than 80% of
the electricity. Furthermore, in order to subsidize the thermal power

The Theory And The Psychoanalytic Theory
Although used predominantly to explain the varying characteristics each individual possesses,
personality is also a term often coined to define and explain the reasons behind an individual s
motivations and reactions to certain events, entities and decisions. Defined by Larson Buss, 2005,
personality is the set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organised
and relatively enduring, and that influence his or her interaction with, and adaptions to, the
intrapsychic, physical and social environments. As personality encompasses such a wide array of
concepts, there are many competitive theories battling to explain these dynamic ideas. Of these
theories, is the unorthodox Psychoanalytic theory, developed by... Show more content on

In contrast, the humanistic approach emphasised the conscious awareness of needs, choices and
personal responsibilities of the individual (Lahey, 2009). They believed that the personal worth of
the particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of
human beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach,
according to Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is
compassionate and positive (Larsen Buss, 2012).
Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of
the most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his
psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on
the pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values
and the harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was
the minds way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008).
In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a
positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings,
and make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). The main emphasis of the
humanistic approach, was that an individual has free will and this plays an important role in shaping

Nero Impact On The Roman Empire
Emperor Nero, who was infamously known as one of the worst emperors, had a huge impact on the
Roman Empire in many different ways throughout his lifetime. Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus
Germanicus, but known by most people as Nero, was born on December 15, 37 A.D. to Gnaeus
Domitius Ahenobarbus and Agrippina the Younger. He was then adopted by his Uncle Claudius
,
who at that time was Emperor. Nerodid have a couple obstacles in his way to becoming Emperor,
though. Eventually, Nero did gain the throne, and finally, it was his time to dominantly rule over
Rome, by being a cruel and oppressive tyrant, which established him just not only as one of the
worst emperors throughout history, but as the worst emperor throughout history. The historical
impact that came from Emperor Nero was through what his accomplishments were throughout his
rule.

Due to his death, and the fact that there was no heir to receive the throne, many generals began a

persecutions for other religions for many years afterward. He left the Roman Empire falling to
pieces. His impact, everything that he did, amounted to a massive amount of oppression,
criminal activity, cruelty, slavery, and persecution. Nero was by far the worst emperor to ever
control Rome. Nero definitely had an impact on the Roman Empire, it just was not a good
impact. Nero s rise to power was a rocky road, which included his mother killing off Emperor
Claudius and his son, Britannicus; the two people in his way from the throne. His mother soon
meets that same fate when Nero became tired of her, which was only one of the many evil actions
that Nero took part in. These evil actions and the impact that he left solidify him by far as the
worst, most cruel, oppressive, and tyrannical emperor the Roman Empire ever

Figurative Language In My Antonia
The novel My Antonia uses imagery and figurative language to help communicate the theme of
the novel to the readers. The character Jim Burden is headed west to Nebraska to his
grandparents from Virginia after his parents have died. Jim is playing the role of Manifest Destiny
by moving West to Nebraska. On his way Jim sees how raw the earth is, relating that it is not yet a
country, but rather the material that countries are made of. Looking at the land this way is very
much like Manifest Destiny. The author uses imagery many times throughout her novelto give the
readers a better understanding and view to pinpoint the theme. There seemed to be nothing to
see; no fences, no creeks or trees, no hills or fields. If there was a road, I could not make it out in
the faint starlight. There was nothing but land...I had never before looked up at the sky when
there was not a familiar mountain ridge against it. But this was the complete dome of heaven,
all there was of it. I did not believe that my dead father and mother were watching me from up
there; they would still be looking for me at the sheep fold down by the creek.... I had left even
their spirits behind me. The wagon jolted on, carrying me I knew not whither. I don t think I was
homesick. If we never arrived anywhere, it did not matter. Between that earth and that sky I felt
erased, blotted out. I did not say my prayers that night: here, I felt, what would be would be. This
new surrounding is the beginning of an adventure for

actual holiday to start) Well, jokes aside Christmas is surely just around the corner and the spirit of
Christmas is once again present among us. But what is this Spirit of Christmas ? In fact what is
Christmas?
When a person thinks of Christmas, the first thing that most probably comes to mind is the
Christmas tree or Santa Claus or even presents. Christmas can be described in many ways but it is
usually celebrated by millions of people according to tradition. Tradition dictates to put up a

Centuries ago in Great Britain, wood priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious
winter solstice rituals. The druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place
evergreen branches over doors to keep away evil spirits.
Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or
just outside their door to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree
evolved from these early traditions.
Legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. One
crisp Christmas Eve, about the year 1500, he was walking through snow covered woods and was
struck by the beauty of a group of small evergreens. Their branches, dusted with snow shimmered
in the moonlight. When he got home, he set up a little fir tree indoors so he could share the story
with his children. He decorated it with candles, which he lighted in honour of Christ s birth.
The tradition of the mistletoe is derived from the pagan worship of the sun god, Balder. He was
supposed to be immune to all forms of destruction because of spells cast by the other gods. The
only thing they lacked was the immunity to mistletoe. And so Loki, the evil god contrived to have
Balder killed in an arrow made of mistletoe.

Bug Repellent Case Study
Bug repellent companies are running at full capacity to put up with the demand of bug spray to
put out the spread of the Zika virus. Companies that make these bug sprays are working with
different government agencies to ease the price of shipping to the countries in need of this
useful product. The countries that are in need for the price of shipping to go down are those
with a high demand value and low production of the chemicals needed to make this product.
Consumer market expect the demand to be 2 or 3 times higher than the past years. Many
companies are adding third or fourth shifts, adding in weekends, and operating all day and week
in order to make the demand for bug spray. Along with production ramp up, repellent makers are
in talks with government regulators about ways to make it easier to transport their products across
international borders, according to Ms. Semrau, the S.C. Johnson spokeswoman. Bug repellent is
one of few weapons that people have to arm themselves against mosquitos in general, let alone the
Zika virus. The Zika virus also has no treatment and it is hard to control. Pregnant women are also
at a very high risk if they are infected while pregnant, their child could be born with significant birth

Integration Of Ann Based Proxy Model
Integration of ANN based Proxy model in EnKF Framework After development of an accurate
proxy model based on ANN, the next task is to combine it with existing EnKF framework for
assisted history matching. Permeability realizations are represented in terms of eigenvalues and
corresponding eigen functions along with random variables using KL expansion as described in
section 2.2. Once the eigenvalues and their corresponding eigen functions are determined after
truncating terms in KL expansion, a realization can be generated with a certain number of values
Оѕ_i from the standard Gaussian distribution N(0,1) using Eqn. (13). Each vector of random
variable represents a permeability realization. These random variable vectors are used as input
parameters for development of the proxy models. General workflow for development of the
proxy models has been shown in Fig.4. A detailed explanation for proxy model generation will
be provided in further section using a real field case study of SAGD reservoir. The proxy models
are then used in forecast step of EnKF. EnKF workflow starts from construction of a state vector
shown in Eqn. (2). In KL ANN EnKF approach, state vector consists of random variables as model
parameters representing the permeability field along with production parameters. In forecast step,
reservoir simulator is replaced by the proposed ANN proxy model and production parameters are
estimated considering random variables as input parameters. Output spread is

Explore the Different Ways Power Is Presented in...
Power is presented through characters by using a long description of what the character is like,
describing their appearance, positive points and negative points. The power of the character is
presented by demonstrating their dominance or submissiveness over another character through their
actions, speech and the way they behave around them, and if they change their behaviour around
other people, for example Curley acts as if he s the best in the world at everything around Lennie

I can go away any time. , George almost begs him to stay because he knows he can t live without
him because he s been with him for so long that he needs him. The power of this friendship is
extremely significant because a normal migrant worker has no friends or family so is extremely
lonely and earns some money then spends it in a bar but with George and Lennie, they have each

George and Lennie s dream is to have a patch of land with some pastoral and agricultural farming
with nobody to boss them about and this relates to the American Dream because every migrant
worker wants this but never gets it because They come to a ranch and work up a stake and then
they go into town and blow their stake, and the first thing you know they re pounding their tail on
some other ranch. . It gives them hope for their future because without the dream, Lennie and
George have nothing to look forward to so they can go on living without a worry because even if
something does happen, they know at some point they will eventually be able to get away from it.

The World Of World War II Essay
World War II resulted in the deaths of over three percent of the 1939 population and saw
unprecedented economic damage. Similar to World War I, there was strong European sentiment to
prevent such a war from unfolding again, particularly due to the newfound fear associated with
nuclear weapons and the extensive civilian toll the war caused. The chief problem with creating
benevolent relations between nations was reconciling France and Germany. To ensure Germany
could never threaten Europe again, Europe instituted the Monnet Plan, which dismantled German
heavy industry and stripped Germany of its coal producing regions. Germany was also divided into
West Germany, which was controlled by Western Europe/NATO and East Germany, which was
controlled by the Soviet Union.
As sentiments like Winston Churchill s 1946 call for United States of Europe became louder, the
Council of Europe was established in 1949 as the first pan European organization. French Foreign
Minister, Robert Schuman, on May 9, 1950, proposed the Schuman Declaration, which created a
community to integrate the coal and steel industries of Europe in an effort to promote international
cooperation and understanding. He chose the coal and steel industries due to their necessity in the
production of weaponry. France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and West Germany
signed the Treaty of Paris, creating the European Coal and Steel Community, giving birth to
cooperative agencies like the Common Assembly. The

The Lack Of School Security In California

money is always an option when it comes down to children s safety. Teachers should keep children
on the right track then they will go into right direction and that will help school as a whole feel
safer. If teachers don t teach anything then children will fight with each other and school won t feel

They utilized such sample, because they thought they could predict their personality solemnly on

Irony In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Authors use literary elements dramatically in short stories to influence a certain feeling on the
reader or to send out a certain message to the audience. Throughout the stories, The Interlopers and
Lamb to the Slaughter , both authors use elements to make their story appealing to the reader. Saki,
the author of The Interlopers uses his examples of literary elements precisely and tremendously,
which makes his story better than Dahl s Lamb to the Slaughter .
The author of the story Lamb to the Slaughter , Roald Dahl, uses a significant amount of irony
throughout the story. Dahl uses irony to make his story more appealing to the reader by keeping
them engaged. An example of irony in the story is when Mary is six months pregnant and her
husband expresses he is leaving her, so she murders him. The audience would have never seen
this coming because the author expresses Mary s feelings from the beginning of the story by
saying, She loved him for the way he sat loosely in a chair, for the way he came in the door or
moved slowly across the room with long strides. She loved the intent, far look in his eyes when
they rested on her, the funny shape of the mouth, and especially the way he remained silent about
his tiredness, sitting still with himself until the whiskey had taken some of it away. (Dahl 1 2).
When Dahl shares Mary s feelings, the reader concludes that Mary is an innocent, loving wife that
truly loves her husband and would do absolutely anything for him. But when Mary murders him
after he decides to leave, situational irony appears. This is an example of situational irony because
the reader would never expect Mary to murder her husband, but the exact opposite occurs. Dahl
also uses situational irony as an example of language. The language makes the story more
intriguing and exciting. The situational irony is used in the story to shock the reader and to create
the climax of the plot.
Dahl also uses imagery throughout Lamb to the Slaughter. An example of imagery is when Dahl
describes in depth how Mary murdered her husband, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him
and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as
hard as she could on the back of his

MAN VS. NATURE
None of them knew the color of the sky. This first sentence in Stephen Crane s The Open Boat

limitations of anyone s perspective. The men in the boat concentrate so much on the danger they

and unpredictable. In the beginning, the men in the boat view nature as evil and unjust; nature
s own personal vendetta. Since the crew on a dangerous sea without hope are depicted as the
babes of the sea, we can assume that we are likely to be unknowing strangers in the universe. In
addition to the danger we face, we have to also overcome the new challenges of the waves in
daily life. These waves are most wrongfully and barbarously abrupt and tall, requiring a new leap,
and a leap. Are we powerless against nature? Can we control our own fate? Although the men
struggle to survive and make it to shore, we never really know until the end, if they are going to
drown. Their fate seems to fall into the hands of forces beyond their control. A perfect example is
when the correspondent gets caught in a current while trying to swim to shore. He is trapped by an
invisible force, a current, which he can not understand or escape. Suddenly, the current frees him,
and he is washed ashore by a huge wave. This is an unexpected turn of events being that the
strongest rower, the oiler, does not survive yet he seemed the most physically able and the most
determined to survive. The correspondent, troubled by his impressions and realities, learns that
nature is

The Role Of Modern Nationalism And The Middle East
In this essay I will be discussing the role of modern nationalism and how this ideology affected the
transition from colonial rule to independence in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as the
problems that plagued them since 1945, and how these different nations have solved them. I will be
specifically concentrating on the nations of India, Algeria, and Iran. In the wake of World War Two,
the power of Asian nationalism was irrepressible. Many new nations emerged all throughout this
massive continent. Even though these various nations are different in many ways the way in which
they came together hold true. Everywhere Asian nationalists rallied their people against colonialism
and imperialism brought on by the various countries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this was a problem, it was fairly brief. Since India gained their independence, the
country has faced many problems. These problems include ethnic and religious conflict, poverty
and overpopulation. These problems have been attempted to be solved by the Indian
democracy. For example, The prime minister, Indira Gandhi (1966 77 1980 84) embarked on the
green revolution this increased agricultural yields for India s eight hundred million people. This
solved problems of poverty for a short period of time, this is because India has one of the fastest
growing populations in the world. Gandhi realized this and took stringent action by calling for a
state of emergency form 1975 77. During this time period she imposed very repressive birth
control policies, even involuntary sterilization. Over eight million people were sterilized in an
effort to control the overpopulation problem. This was not the end of India s problems though, in
1980 the religious divide proved to be a deadly one. Gandhi took it upon herself to fix the
problem, ordering the army to attack a sacred temple which harbored Sikh extremists. She did this
all because this particular religion wanted more autonomy in the Punjab region of India. A short
time later she was assassinated by two of her

Fifa And The Reason Behind Its Corruption Crises
FIFA AND THE REASON BEHIND ITS CORRUPTION CRISES In this essay I will be
answering these following questions and any more, on what exactly happened to FIFA insane
corruption?, why is the indictment coming from the U.S.?,Who are the major FIFA officials who
have been arrested? Who is Sepp Blatter and why wasn t he indicted?. What exactly happened to
FIFA?. Nine FIFA officials and 5 other individuals were arrested. The FIFA officials, many of them

So he has got a lot of power around him. Honestly he is a very smart man and does mostly
everything secretly. And the corruption with Sepp Blatterhas been going on for awhile. But it
seems that those around him are the ones falling or failing. In 2015, FIFA called off amid
corruption probe. Blatter and Platini will avoid going face to face ahead of the friendly match
after swiss authorities questions both of them. Sepp Blatter and Michel platini will usually
travel down to Switzerland just to watch the friendly matches. I also heard that, most of the
2006 World Cup was full of bribery and chaos. People didn t realize there was bribery going on
because, all others cared about was the World Cup and which country was going to win. And
under FIFA president Sepp blatter s 17 year reign, exclusive foul play has surfaced. In 2010, the
host countries for the 2018 and the 2022 World Cups were selected. FIFA was criticized for
choosing two hosts at once. Critics warned this would increase the chances of collusion. Fifa s
inspection team evaluated a 9 bid and rated Russia and Qatar the riskiest places . Qatar is a very
hot country with like 106 degrees Fahrenheit summer temperatures in Qatar. Also homosexuality
being illegal in Qatar, the political situation in Russia and a strong English bid. However, Qatar
out of nowhere, won and earned the 2022 World Cup vote. Russia became the 2018 host city,
which was very interesting because Russia is

Persuasive Essay On Party Cruises
Your best mate has chosen you to be the one to stand at the altar with him as he weds his love.
One of your jobs will be to ensure that he has a party worthy of the fact that he ll no longer be a
bachelor. He s about to be a married man. When it comes to Melbourne bucks night ideas, you ll
want to think of things he loves to do. You ll also need to ensure that the entire party is one that
everyone will remember for the rest of their lives.
Party Cruises
A great idea for the groom s party is to take advantage of a party boat cruise. There are plenty of
party packages that include lingerie models or topless women to serve drinks and food. The
party boat can be rented for a few hours, and often includes unlimited beer or wine as well as
food. The party package that you choose will explain what kind of benefits you ll have at your

If he s like most men, it ll need to involve strippers and too much drinking. Everyone in the groom
s party will love a lap dance at a strip club. You could also decide to hire strippers and naked
entertainment in a private location. It could be your home where you surprise the groom with a
night of naked women, or you could have them at a local venue. Make sure everyone is on board
with this type of entertainment because the bride s father might not enjoy a night of watching his
future son in law with a naked woman on his lap.

Gaining Position Power In The Military
In a military we obtain position power that comes with the rank and the position you are
presently serving. The best way to acquire the position power is by performing your general and
specific responsibilities per your rank. For example, in the Air Force if you are a Staff Sergeant
your primary duty is to be the higher skill technician that will be responsible of training and for his
subordinates. If your subordinates don t do their training by the first week of the month than the
Staff Sergeantcan make them work the weekend to finish their training while working 12 hour shift.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix
The Harry Potter series is currently one of the highest grossing movie franchises of all time. This
phenomenon has sparked midnight movie release parities, apparel for every installment of the
franchise, and a following of avid Harry Potter fanatics. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
is the fifth movie installment in this world renowned phenomenon written by J.K. Rowling. This
film was directed by David Yates, produced by Warner Brothers Entertainment Inc., and released
in the late summer of 2007. The movie poster as a whole supports the themes of fear, evil, and
being a light amongst the darkness. In this film poster, the onlooker will sense an expression

Characters Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and Neville Longbottom are wearing Hogwarts
uniforms which create a feel of the characters being young adult students. This portrayal is to
show the audience that this film is mainly based around adolescence. Although these characters
are supposed to appear like young students, the characters seem to have aged since the last movie,
suggesting a time of turmoil has made them grow wise beyond their years. In fact, each of their
faces appears paler, and all wear dark expressions. This turmoil could be attributed to the death of
their dear friend Cedric Diggory in the fourth movie installment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of
Fire. These serious expressions on Harry, Ron, and Hermione s faces enhance the theme of this
poster which is fear and the possibility of a coming evil. Themes of darkness and evil have
always been a key element in the Warner Brother campaigning strategies for the Harry Potter
series. The whole poster is dominated by the color black creating an eerie atmosphere. This cold
and dark atmosphere eludes to the battle that is to take place during the movie. There are a few
other colors shown in the image including tones of grey throughout the clothing of the characters.
Although there is a sharp contrast when it comes to the red t shirt of the main character. This
emphasis on Potter suggests even more importance of the main character. The color red

Zombies Rights In The Serpent And The Rainbow
Another example of zombies not having rights is seen in the film, The Serpent and the Rainbow
(1988), which raises another one of Thagard s questions about whether zombies raised from the
dead have different rights than viral/infected zombies. In the film, the zombies are created through
a Voodoo drug. The Vodou master controls these corpses and makes them do whatever he wants
them to do. This is seen towards the end of the film, when the main character, Dennis, is controlled
the Vodou master. This is similar to one of the forms Kordas talks about in the quote previously
mentioned. The film is another example of zombies being servants and following the will of
someone else. Most zombiefilms, nowadays, features diseases and infections that turn people into

The Use Of Extreme Cold On Surgery Or Other Medical...
Cryotherapy is the use of extreme cold in surgery or other medical treatments. Cryotherapy unlike
other methods of treatment works in a very specific way in order to stimulate the brain. First a
person is put in to The Cryo sauna, this is a simple shower like machine that uses the gas form of
liquid nitrogen to lower the client s skin surface temperatureby 30 50 degrees Fahrenheit over a
period of two three minutes. The chamber is then cooled using liquid nitrogen but clients are not in
direct contact with the gas. The skin reacts to the coldand sends messages to the brain that acts as a
stimulant to the regulatory functions of the body. This is important because it then makes the brain

Before they begin to go into detail about how to use cryotherapy, they first explain what it
process is exactly and they also gives background information on the process as well. They
explain how the use of cold temperatures are said to have increasingly significant results on the
diminishing of inflammation around the area of the soreness. By decreasing blood flow,
cryotherapy is said to have reduced muscle spasms, and edema. Edema is an excess of watery
fluid collected in the cavities or tissues of the body. It is caused by body injuries, and make the
area around the injury swell.Cryotherapy has been reported to significantly decrease this from
happening.
Authors Meeusen and Lievens preform these test in order to help give positive feedback about
the process of cryotherapy and they also allows them the chance to get background information on
the health benefits as well. For people who prefer not to submerge in the water, the author
provides alternatives such as freezing gel pack. This is important because some people cannot
handle being submerged in ice water in order to get the full benefit of the process.
The process of cold therapy has been around for over two hundred years, and has been proven
effective, but recently there has been more research done in order to test different aspects of the
therapy such as how it effects muscle soreness on a stressed muscle. My whole life I have heard
that if I have sore muscles, I should

For ethical scenario 2, her consequences are very disappointing and difficult but also very
understandable. Anyone could see clearly that this child would be a reminder of her tragic

Industrial Revolutions During Europe During The Industrial...
Industrial Revolution in Europe
Before the industrial revolution, Europe was mostly dominated by farmers but as the industrial
revolution progressed this changed dramatically. Industrial revolution had a significant impact in
the process by making new demands that shaped the way of life through increased competition and
technological innovation. Generally, it was a historical period that sparked in a stroke a number
numerous changes in the economic, social and political dimensions. It is considered as a period
that made the biggest impact on 19th century Europe considering that it was the period that the
countries realized significant progress that shaped their economies in great details with nationalism
and imperialism as well being direct impacts of the revolution.
Not many could have anticipated the rapid rise of the European industry that was realized from
industrial revolution. As a note, dominance in wage labor, rapid growth of cities and evolution of
industries mostly from steel and iron factories were perhaps the greatest changes that were
experienced. In economic changes, manifestations were evident through the increased rates of
immigration to better places, rapid growth of cities as centers of trade and changes in the type of
work and working structures. Socially, reorganization of family was experienced as well as changes
in ownership of jobs, rural to urban migration as well as where and when to work (Lynn et al. 413

  • 2. How Did Larry Ellison Create His Own Business Larry Ellison claimed that He had to create his own business because he knew he hadn t the patience to work for anyone else This stubborn attitude of his was the leading factor that caused him to drop out of college twice as a young adult. The first time Ellison dropped out of college was after two years of attending The University of Illinois at Urbana, Champagne. He then traveled to Berkeley to work as a programmer prior to re enrolling in collegeat University of Chicago. However after dropping out a second time (after just one semester) in 1966 Ellison had no place left to go and returned to California. His return to California initiated his computer related work for major tech companies. Ellison s drive for success lead him to major CEO positions of large corporations. His employment at Ampex Corp., an audio and studio equipment company located in Sunnyvale, CA, was where he met the two other men, Edward Oates and Robert Miner, who would become his business partners in the founding or Oracle Corporation (Stone).... • 4. Mere Christianity Chapter 1 Summary This month we were assigned to read the last book of Mere Christianity. Chapter one talks about God s relation to us as followers of Christ. Chapter two discusses the Trinity, and how even though there are three parts he is a personal God. Chapter three addressed God with time. God is not in the past or future, but he is in the present. Chapter four sets up the chapter with an image of two books stacked on each other. These books are a symbol of Godas a father and as a son, and along with this he discusses God s love for us. Chapter five addresses how God breathes life into us, because before we were lifeless. Chapter six brings attention to what is discussed in chapter five, but it also talks about God in relation to the human race as a whole.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found this section of reading repetitive. In this portion of the reading C.S Lewis is wrapping up the loose ends of his discussion on Christianity. Even though I struggled a bit to get through this reading I still pulled out some interesting points from the reading. One chapter of the book that I enjoyed is chapter eight. Chapter eight discusses if Christianity is hard or easy. I found this chapter to appeal to me most because it is something I am very passionate about. During all three of my group s meetings I have discussed how throughout the book C.S Lewis made it a point to recognize that Christianity is not a walk in the park. C. S Lewis says in chapter 8, The Christian way is different: harder, and easier. Christ says Give me All. I don t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you (pg. 196). I think this quote sums up Christianity because it is not about if your walk with the Lord is easy or hard because everyone s faith is different. At the end of the day the Lord wants all of you and it is as simple as that. Along with this C.S Lewis tied in a lot of imagery throughout the chapters of this book. He brings imagery with the books, the to soldiers, and by referencing the story of Beauty and the Beast.BY using this imagery C.S Lewis was able to captivate the reader s attention. All in all, this book had moments where it would drag, but then Lewis would say something to draw in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and presents some evidence to refute them all. First, the author argues that the history has showed that the invasion of the zebra mussel can be stoppable. Conversely, the lecturer underlines the fact that it is true which in the past the invasion of the zebra mussel in the new location in which it had been carried to was impossible to control because of lack of knowledge. Philbrick uses exquisite tone and mood to persuade strong character development, and help readers understand the character s bond. Rodman Philbrick s use of mood and tone show that two heads can be better than one. Maxwell and Freak are being approached by the town bullies, Tony D. also known as Blade, and his gang. • 7. My First Year In High School Have you ever looked up from whatever you were doing and see the girl that you want to spend your whole life with, the girl who shares some characteristics with you, who is looking right at you, but you are too scared to say or do anything? It was autumn and the air was cold and crisp. The bell just rang Kotaro! Let s go, don t wantto be late to class on the first day of school! Yama said with excitement in his voice. I ll be right there! I said as I packed my belongings into my backpack. This is my third year in high school, and next year is my last, so I have to make these days count. As I walked towards the school entrance, leaves were blown into the air by the wind and the smell of oak wood trees filled my lungs. There were students everywhere enlightened to get to class; the sound of autumn leaves crackling when students stepped on them made a very satisfying sound to new. I could still taste the flavour of my peanut buttersandwich that I had this morning for breakfast; It was quite cold out, so I had my hands inside my pocket, gasping for warmness. Hey Yama! I m here, let s head to class now. I said. Yeah Kotaro, I m so happy that we have our first class together! Yama said excitedly. Yes, I m happy for us too! My sophomore and freshmen ear consisted of mostly C s and D s because I put too much time into my novels. I m a very quiet person, and Yama is like my only friend, but I plan to make more friends this year. I often think about my future but can t express it to anyone but Yama because I m a very shy person. Classroom number 46, history. We re here Kotaro! Let s see who our teacher is and meet our classmates. Yama said as we stepped into the classroom. There were two empty seats in the front of the class, so that s where we decided to sit. Our teacher is a girl and her name is Ms. Azumi. She made me and Yama introduce ourselves and so we did. Salutations, my name is Kotaro and I m a junior. I said shyly. Goodmorning, my name is Yama and I m a junior as well! He said loudly and happily. After school ended, I waved goodbye to Yama as he walked home. • 8. Early Psychosis Intervention ( Epi ) Program Essay Once hospitalized, SC was enrolled in the Early Psychosis Intervention (EPI) Program. This pilot provides timely treatment for individuals under 25 who are newly diagnosed, or have untreated psychosis (Vancouver Coastal Health, 2016). SC met these criteria. EPI is based on the idea that if psychosis is recognized and treated early, interventions can limit the potential for ongoing negative consequences (BC Early PsychosisIntervention Program, 2016). Although this was SC s fourth hospitalization, this was her first time on the EPI. By not being treated effectively on her first admission, her chances of success were reduced. A substantial barrier for EPI is a client s delay, or refusal to access services (BC SchizophreniaSociety, 2012). SC had not been ready to accept treatment during previous admissions. Lappin et al. (2016) also argue that there needs to be available services specifically for young adults early in their illness that also have particular interventions for drug related psychosis. This addictions component is not specifically addressed in the current EPI model. However, it specifically targets young adults. As well as additional monitoring of EPI, SC was being stabilized through medications. Her pharmaceutical interventions included suboxone to treat substance dependence, gabapentin as a mood stabilizer, olanzepine for psychosis and zopiclone for insomnia (Vallerand, Sanoski, Deglin, 2015). However, only offering abstinence rather than a harm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. How Does Bee Population Affect Society Slide 1 I was inspired by the stimulus document A World without Work, by Derek Thompson. In the document, Derek talks about the social and economic concerns with machines replacing factory workers, but he completely ignores the environmental impact that humans make. Because of this, I wanted to focus on an environmental issue that faces the U.S today that we as humans can help solve. Slide 2 This lead me to the question, Should the United States stabilize the diminishing bee population in reaction to Colony Collapse Disorder? And after my research, I have concluded that America should actually become involved and stabilize the bee population, keeping them from going extinct. Slide 3 Some background information that will help you further understand my argument and the topic as a whole includes the importance of bees in our lives. Bees, and other pollinators, pollinate a third of the world s crops that help feed multiple organisms. Every one bite of food out of three can be traced back to involve a bee. However, the bees have been recently dying rapidly due to CCD, or Colony Collapse Disorder. This natural disease was first recorded in 2006 in Pennsylvania by a beekeeper. After this report, more beekeepers noticed similar occurrences of smaller colonies thus beginning the concern over a diminishing bee population. The disease causes most bees in the colony to die off and only leave the queen, and a few worker bees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Why Did Farmers Express Discontent During 1870-1900 and... Why did farmers express discontent during 1870 1900 and what impact did their attitudes and actions have on national politics. Manufacturing hit a huge growth rate during this period which cause agriculture to decline, and cause farmers to struggle to make a living. The farmers were now being abused by the railroad companies and banks. The documents in DBQ 8 show rationality for the farmer s protests, exclusively on bank mortgage tariffs and the gold standard. Two particular groups became popular during this period and that would be the Grangers and the Populist Party. Farmers fought against the Gold Standard, railroads, and industrialist during this period causing lots of confrontation. Document G displays how much manufacturing... It was originally opposed by Northern manufacturers, who feared the loss of inexpensive labor; and Southern slaveholders, who feared the development of free soil. It was intended to branch Western immigration, but numerous frontiersmen would fail and arrive home. The Homestead Act provided settlers with 160 acres of surveyed public land. By living on the property for five years and improving it, a small fee would grant the settler the land. This served as a way to encourage the development of the family farm and fill in the normally unoccupied region in the Great Plains in which railroads facilitated this growth. Because of the severe environmental circumstances of the Great Plain region, the Homestead Act turned out to be less effective than anticipated. Document B talks about how it was also hard for colored farmers to make a living especially after the Civil War. They had to get the local merchant or someone else to supply the food for the family to eat while the first crop was being made. (Document B) After the Civil War they didn t have much land and many became homesteaders who were given 160 acres along with regulations they must follow. Studies in the past have Indicated that, lack of adequate sexual and reproductive health knowledge may possibly represent a key factor preventing the complete elimination of unwanted pregnancies, and unsafe induced abortion among adolescent girls in Nigeria. Historical invisibility in her treatise of the women s voluntary associations is what she aims to bring awareness for, she admits that there will always be partial vision to historyand asks questions what historians like herself, Mowry, and Huthmacher need to do to limit this effect. • 20. How Is Hamlet Selfish The Bible says Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay. (Romans 12:19). In modern society, most people do not think about revenge as a bad thing, but rather as a natural part of life. Sometimes it is viewed down upon and questioned by those with high moral standards, or when a person wants revenge so severe that it would require blood to be shed. This was the case for Hamletin the play Hamlet, by Shakespeare. After finding out his father had been killed by his Uncle, who had taken over the throne of Denmark, he is filled with anger and hatred, along with a feeling of self loathing. By saying this, Hamlet acknowledges that he is ready to kill and is not afraid of what follows. However, somewhere in his line of reasoning, he questions whether killing a person is morally justified. He comes up with multiple reasons on why not to kill him, one being that the king is praying and he wants to send him to hell, not to heaven. Classical Elements Of The Military Essay Classical elements of our military are organizational structure, principles of organizational reward, the machine metaphor, and the theory of bureaucracy. Many theories of management have military backgrounds that date back to the beginning of history to Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, and Napoleon. All of these leaders became successful through their efficiency to lead, line of command, unity, and division of work. The United States Militaryis divided into five branches of service. The Army is the the oldest branch of the military, and focuses on defending the country and is the main fighting force of the military. The Air Force works with the Army and is in charge of all of the satellites and nuclear missiles. The Navy ensures equal freedom in the oceans around the world, and protects the interests of our nation to be free. Marine Corps are the first ones to battle, and are responsible for delivering tasks on ground, sea, and in the air. The Coast Guard is responsible for boating safety and rescue, law enforcement, and controlling illegal immigration (Hewes 2005). These are the building blocks behind the reason why our military is so successful and powerful. In 1775, before our nation was established as a Country, colonists were organized into miscellaneous militias with no distinct structure or organization of a unified hierarchy. Taking a Look at Hydroelectric Energy Hydro electric energy (hydropower) has been in existence for more than 2000 years ago, which was firstly used for milling, grain, pumping of water and so many more before been used for energy generation. Hydroelectricity is another form of electricity that is produced by using water as the resource for generation, this simply means that when water is released (flow), it is aided by gravitational force therefore it generates Kinetic Energy (KE) which is converted into mechanical energy by assistance of turbines and generators which convert the mechanical energy into electrical energy which is then transferred to power lines in that form. South Africa, like many other developing countries have electricity challenges and one company in South Africa have been the leader in terms of ensuring that South Africa is powered by hydro electric energy, among other alternative such of power. The company is Eskom, South African largest producer of electrical energy, since it was established in 1923. They believed that the personal worth of the particular individual, the centrality of human values, and the creative and active nature of human beings was what defined the person (McLeod, 2007). Basically, the humanistic approach, according to Abraham Maslow, was that humans are born good and that human nature is compassionate and positive (Larsen Buss, 2012). Both the psychoanalytic and humanistic theories differ from one another in multiple ways. One of the most prominent differences is their view on human nature. As mentioned above, Freud and his psychoanalytic concept, viewed humans as inherently bad. The id, he defined, operated solely on the pleasure principle, craving immediate gratification without consideration about moral values and the harm it could cause (McLeod, 2008). He also believed that the ego and the superego was the minds way of controlling the id ((Lahey, 2009; Larsen Buss, 2012; McLeod, 2008). In contrast, humanistic psychologists viewed human nature as fundamentally good. Maslow had a positive view on men, believing that each had the ability to grow and mature into proper beings, and make use of their full potential (Boeree, 2000 Larsen Buss, 2012). Centuries ago in Great Britain, wood priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter solstice rituals. The druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place evergreen branches over doors to keep away evil spirits. Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or just outside their door to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree evolved from these early traditions. Legend has it that Martin Luther began the tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas. One crisp Christmas Eve, about the year 1500, he was walking through snow covered woods and was struck by the beauty of a group of small evergreens. Their branches, dusted with snow shimmered in the moonlight. When he got home, he set up a little fir tree indoors so he could share the story with his children. He decorated it with candles, which he lighted in honour of Christ s birth. The tradition of the mistletoe is derived from the pagan worship of the sun god, Balder. He was supposed to be immune to all forms of destruction because of spells cast by the other gods. The only thing they lacked was the immunity to mistletoe. And so Loki, the evil god contrived to have Balder killed in an arrow made of mistletoe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Integration Of Ann Based Proxy Model Integration of ANN based Proxy model in EnKF Framework After development of an accurate proxy model based on ANN, the next task is to combine it with existing EnKF framework for assisted history matching. Permeability realizations are represented in terms of eigenvalues and corresponding eigen functions along with random variables using KL expansion as described in section 2.2. Once the eigenvalues and their corresponding eigen functions are determined after truncating terms in KL expansion, a realization can be generated with a certain number of values Оѕ_i from the standard Gaussian distribution N(0,1) using Eqn. (13). Each vector of random variable represents a permeability realization. These random variable vectors are used as input parameters for development of the proxy models. General workflow for development of the proxy models has been shown in Fig.4. A detailed explanation for proxy model generation will be provided in further section using a real field case study of SAGD reservoir. The proxy models are then used in forecast step of EnKF. EnKF workflow starts from construction of a state vector shown in Eqn. (2). Similar to World War I, there was strong European sentiment to prevent such a war from unfolding again, particularly due to the newfound fear associated with nuclear weapons and the extensive civilian toll the war caused. The chief problem with creating benevolent relations between nations was reconciling France and Germany. To ensure Germany could never threaten Europe again, Europe instituted the Monnet Plan, which dismantled German heavy industry and stripped Germany of its coal producing regions. Germany was also divided into West Germany, which was controlled by Western Europe/NATO and East Germany, which was controlled by the Soviet Union. As sentiments like Winston Churchill s 1946 call for United States of Europe became louder, the Council of Europe was established in 1949 as the first pan European organization. French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, on May 9, 1950, proposed the Schuman Declaration, which created a community to integrate the coal and steel industries of Europe in an effort to promote international cooperation and understanding. An example of irony in the story is when Mary is six months pregnant and her husband expresses he is leaving her, so she murders him. The audience would have never seen this coming because the author expresses Mary s feelings from the beginning of the story by saying, She loved him for the way he sat loosely in a chair, for the way he came in the door or moved slowly across the room with long strides. She loved the intent, far look in his eyes when they rested on her, the funny shape of the mouth, and especially the way he remained silent about his tiredness, sitting still with himself until the whiskey had taken some of it away. (Dahl 1 2). When Dahl shares Mary s feelings, the reader concludes that Mary is an innocent, loving wife that truly loves her husband and would do absolutely anything for him. But when Mary murders him after he decides to leave, situational irony appears. This is an example of situational irony because the reader would never expect Mary to murder her husband, but the exact opposite occurs. Dahl also uses situational irony as an example of language. The language makes the story more intriguing and exciting. The situational irony is used in the story to shock the reader and to create the climax of the plot. Dahl also uses imagery throughout Lamb to the Slaughter. An example of imagery is when Dahl describes in depth how Mary murdered her husband, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his ... • 41. The Open Boat Essay MAN VS. NATURE None of them knew the color of the sky. This first sentence in Stephen Crane s The Open Boat implies the overall relationship between the individual and nature. This sentence also implies the limitations of anyone s perspective. The men in the boat concentrate so much on the danger they are in, that they are oblivious and unaware to everything else; in other words, maybe lacking experience. The Open Boat begins with a description of four men aboard a small boat on a rough sea. The central theme of this story is about confronting Nature itself. This statement may suggest the meaningless or irrelevance of an individual s sense of self importance against the power of nature. The human voyage into life is basically uncontrollable and unpredictable. In the beginning, the men in the boat view nature as evil and unjust; nature s own personal vendetta. Since the crew on a dangerous sea without hope are depicted as the babes of the sea, we can assume that we are likely to be unknowing strangers in the universe. In addition to the danger we face, we have to also overcome the new challenges of the waves in daily life. These waves are most wrongfully and barbarously abrupt and tall, requiring a new leap, and a leap. Are we powerless against nature? Can we control our own fate? Although the men struggle to survive and make it to shore, we never really know until the end, if they are going to drown. Their fate seems to fall into the hands of forces beyond their control. A perfect example is when the correspondent gets caught in a current while trying to swim to shore. He is trapped by an invisible force, a current, which he can not understand or escape. Suddenly, the current frees him, and he is washed ashore by a huge wave. This is an unexpected turn of events being that the strongest rower, the oiler, does not survive yet he seemed the most physically able and the most determined to survive. I will be specifically concentrating on the nations of India, Algeria, and Iran. In the wake of World War Two, the power of Asian nationalism was irrepressible. Many new nations emerged all throughout this massive continent. Even though these various nations are different in many ways the way in which they came together hold true. Although this was a problem, it was fairly brief. Since India gained their independence, the country has faced many problems. These problems include ethnic and religious conflict, poverty and overpopulation. These problems have been attempted to be solved by the Indian democracy. For example, The prime minister, Indira Gandhi (1966 77 1980 84) embarked on the green revolution this increased agricultural yields for India s eight hundred million people. This solved problems of poverty for a short period of time, this is because India has one of the fastest growing populations in the world. Gandhi realized this and took stringent action by calling for a state of emergency form 1975 77. During this time period she imposed very repressive birth control policies, even involuntary sterilization. Over eight million people were sterilized in an effort to control the overpopulation problem. This was not the end of India s problems though, in 1980 the religious divide proved to be a deadly one. Gandhi took it upon herself to fix the problem, ordering the army to attack a sacred temple which harbored Sikh extremists. She did this all because this particular religion wanted more autonomy in the Punjab region of India. A short time later she was assassinated by two of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This portrayal is to show the audience that this film is mainly based around adolescence. Although these characters are supposed to appear like young students, the characters seem to have aged since the last movie, suggesting a time of turmoil has made them grow wise beyond their years. In fact, each of their faces appears paler, and all wear dark expressions. This turmoil could be attributed to the death of their dear friend Cedric Diggory in the fourth movie installment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. These serious expressions on Harry, Ron, and Hermione s faces enhance the theme of this poster which is fear and the possibility of a coming evil.
