inability to choose her own opinion, whether it s being a loyalist or a patriot. She is
stuck between her two choices to choose because they both promise something that
she desires; freedom. It was unclear as to which side she will choose, as her opinions
changes throughout the novel. In the beginning, she was a patriot. her friend,
Curzon, promised her that if she becomes a spy for them against the Locktons,
(who were loyalists), then she and her sister will receive freedom. She does what
she was told, and acted as a spy, and gave many important information to Patriots.

In the novel, it quotes, The British Lord Dunmore in Virginia offered freedom total
freedom to any slave who escapes to his camp. He shook his fist in the air when he
said freedom. (Grandfather 164). Despite the counter argument the other slaves
gave, Isabel decides to join the British cause and become a Loyalist. The novel
states, I will run and join the British and They d grant me freedom and give me
work. (both quotes by Isabel 174). By these two quotes, Isabel believes that if she
joined the British, she would be able to gain freedom to become independent. Then,
she plans to find work and earn enough money to find her sister Ruth, who Isabel
still believes was sold away. She believes that the British offers much more than what
the Patriots did, and since they failed her last time, she is sketchy about joining them
again and doesn t really trust them. She believes that they want freedom for the
colonists, not for slaves. Thus, she becomes a

Satire In Dr Strangelove
Stanley Kubrick film, Dr. Stangelove, or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and
Love the Bomb, presents a sarcastic comedy about a commander of a U.S. Air
Force Base, General Jack D. Ripper, who diverts his B 52 bombers from airborne
alert to an attack on the Soviet Union with nuclear weapons. Some way into his work
on the script, however, Kubrick realized the story was too appalling for serious
treatment and decided to recast it as an out and out satire (Bromwich). Kubrick could
have kept the film in a serious tone most people wouldn t even have the interest in
watching it because the world is more interested in something that would make them
laugh but also something that will catch their attention. Throughout the film, there
were many patterns... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Civilian and military relations are important because it determines who controls the
armed forces and the extent to which the armed forces control the country. During the
film, Dr. Strangelove, asked the question, Is the President in control of the U.S.
nuclear weapons? Most military personnel are not okay with the fact that when
something occurs like the Civil War that they cannot make a decision themselves,
instead they have to wait for the President to come up with a plan and then they are
to execute whatever the President decides. Generals Turgidson and Ripper do not
seem to respect the President. During the film the President wanted to talk and
figure out a plan before he decides if taking out 90 percent of the civilian
population is something he wanted to happen while he is the president. Civilians
often think twice about what to do when something bad happens but military
personal are prompt with taking action when something happens. During the film
when crew members received word from the base that they were set for Wing
Attack Plan R , and Major Kong said, Folks back home is counting on ya and by
golly we aren t about to let them down showed that the first thought on their mind
was civilians and other people before themselves. No one ever thinks twice about
why the military did this or did that. People often think the military cares only
about themselves but it can be shown by the crew members that that is not true.
The military is often put into situations where they have to quickly make a
decision and not think twice about it. This can be hard to do but the military
always tries to do what seems to be the best not only for others such as civilians but
also themselves. Another scene in the film is right after the base got notified of a
possible attack, it is said over the intercom Our nation is counting on you and I know
you won t let them down . This scene again
Process Essay-ewives And Brewers
Alewives and brewers were peasants who had special jobs in addition to the
agricultural work they did on the manor. Ale was a highly popular medieval drink
that was brewed from barley or other grains. There was a step by step procedure in
making ale (Singman 153). First, the seeds were heated and roasted, in a process
called malting (Singman 53). This allowed the seeds to convert into soluble
starches, adding flavor to the ale (Singman 53). It was then ground, boiled in water
to extract its contents, and strained to remove the solid (Singman 53). Herbal
flavorings were added to give more flavor and the liquid was then fermented with
yeast(Singman 53). After a batch was ready, an alewife displayed a sign telling
peasants the ale was ready... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because it was the basic diet for people in the Middle Ages, each household required
a large and steady supply, and the ale was served fresh (Placeway). Tenants who did
work such as harvesting or plowing for the lord were well fed and enjoyed an
unlimited supply of ale (Adamson 91). In medieval society, the favorite adult
recreation was drinking (Gies and Gies, 1990 103). Men and women gathered in a
tavern, usually in the house of a neighbor who recently brewed a batch of ale (Gies
and Gies, 1990 103). Each religious community was given a gallon of ale a day, but
some were allowed more if they wanted (Mortimer 87). The price of the drink was
regulated by law ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). Brewers were suppose to call
for an ale taster before selling any ale ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). An ale
taster was appointed to make sure any ale sold by the alewife was made to the
correct standard ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). He or she regulated the
brewing process and took an oath to be responsible and mature (Gies and Gies, 1978
161). The ale taster made sure the correct price was charged and the correct
measures were used ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). Ale was a very important
part in medieval life because so many people

3.2.The NLTDP, NMTDP and the MDGs
As a reflection of Indonesia s increased willingness to play a cooperative role in the
international arena, the government is becoming increasingly aware of the
importance of providing a systematic data to measure development progress.
Although there are many instances where various international development
programs are being incorporated into the national development plan, in this
dissertation I present a case study on the integration of the MDGs into the Indonesia s
national development plan as a specific example where the Indonesian government
takes a proactive role in integrating an international development agenda into its
national development plan.
3.2.1.Why MDGs?
Aside from the MDGs being the first comprehensively outlined global development
goals that were agreed by UN member states, the fact that they provide specific
indicators illustrate that the MDGs are able to provide the initial frameworks for
developing countries to achieve development objectives deemed as important by
setting specific goals and targeted indicators which statutory countries have pledged
to fulfil by the end of 2015. The multi dimensional nature of what consist of
development as outlined in the MDGs will also enable us to incorporate a more
holistic view of development, as opposed to the traditional interpretation of
development that almost exclusively refers to economic progress.
Furthermore, Indonesia was one of the 189 UN member state signees of the
The Pros And Cons Of Gene Therapy
The beauty of the human race is the complexity in which our bodies present
themselves in comparison to other organisms that live on Earth. Evolution has taken
its sweet time to produce the alpha organisms we have become today, and at the
pinnacle of human evolution is our DNA: a unique, intricate, and complex
representation of millions of years of evolutionary mutations. The number one cause
of genetic diversity is mutations; mutations occur randomly and can produce
beneficial or harmful nucleotide sequences. Nucleotide sequences code for the
production of proteins that perform the majority of roles in our bodies. When harmful
mutations halt protein production or cause malicious protein production, the body
can be effected in numerous ways. The majority of disorders expressed by humans
across the globe are genetic, meaning that the DNAof the individual with the genetic
disorder contains errors or mutations that cause the subsequent symptoms to occur.
Gene therapy is a field of study that focuses on the correction of mutations in DNA
sequences. The ultimate goal of Gene Therapy is to prevent the inheritance of
mutations that cause genetic disorders. In the medical community this is called Germ
line Gene Therapy. While this is the least ventured area of gene therapy, its has been
proven to be the most promising in reference to advancing medicine to new heights
when the ethical situation changes. The second goal of Gene Therapy is to cure the
patients with the genetic
Pros And Cons Of Drone Attacks
On February 4, 2002, for the first time, an unmanned predator drone was used in an
air strike near the city of Khost in the Paktia province of Afghanistan. Three men
were killed in the strike, although the target of the mission, Osama Bin Laden, turned
out to not be there. There has been much debate as to whether the benefits of drone
warfare outweigh the risks, however there are more pros then cons to drone warfare
(Powers).
The use of drone strikes has increased over the years. Only 50 strikes were
approved by the Bush administration, whereas the Obama administration approved
506 strikes (Powers). Drone strikes haven proven to be very useful. They helped to
bring down a huge terrorist threat to the United States. According to Michael V.
Hayden, a retired Air Force four star general and author of Playing to the Edge:
American Intelligence in the Age of Terror, drone strikes disrupted terrorist plots
and reduced the original Qaeda organization along the Afghanistan Pakistan border
to a shell of its former self. . Drone strikes were crucial in stopping Osama Bin Laden
. The strikes worried the leadership of Al Qaeda, and they wanted to stop operations
and go into hiding. Drone strikes have succeeded in causing fear throughout Al Qaeda
and taking out many members of the organization, making any losses well worth it
(Hayden).
One major downfall in using drones in warfare is the loss of civilian lives, but the
military takes many steps to prevent this. It is debated as to
The Looming Of A Miracle Worker Essay
The Looming Shadow If life could be solved on good intentions alone then the
government would be revered as a miracle worker, unfortunately in reality good
intentions are often followed by those who would seek to profit from them Across
American history this trait is a pattern that has repeated itself numerous of times,
from the past century alone good intentions created the great depression and the
savings and Loans collapse. Most recently the new good intention became low
income families, and from it blossomed a thorny rose of a new standard of
business ethics. The intention of assisting low income families started becoming
more prevalent under Bill Clinton s administration, and can traced to 1992 with
the creation of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO). In
time, from administration to administration while people either looked away or
got paid under the table the remaining ethics of every the American industry
vanished, leaving in its wake a crisis which even today remains as a shadow on the
minds of all Americans. A shadow greater than the one created by the explosion of
the USS Maine in the harbor of Havana, or even the darkness on the day of Pearl
Harbor. The reason the shadow remains is because of that very vanishing ethics,
which had created it under the guise of good intentions starting with OFHEO. In
1992 the Federal Housing Enterprises Financial Safety and Soundness Act was
passed, which was responsible for the creation of the OFHEO

The Service Quality Of Marley s Motors, No Technique

RESULTS REPORTING
When faced with the task to research and report service quality within Marley s
Motors, no technique does a better job than the SERVQUAL model. The service
quality gaps model compares a company s service performance to the expectations of
their customers. These expectations are broken down into five separate dimensions.
These dimensions include reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy, and
responsiveness. The analysis that was performed for this report was based on the
empathy dimension of the SERVQUAL model. Empathy is known as the ability to
understand and share the feelings of another (Oxford Dictionaries). In the case of
Marley s, we used three attributes to measure how successfully Marley s handled the
empathy dimension. These attributes included friendliness of staff, the amount of
attention received by customers, and how well the customers needs we met. These
three attributes combine to comprise the overall satisfaction with empathy. This
dimension then influences overall satisfaction with Marley s service department.
HYPOTHESIS TESTING Statistical hypothesis testing is used to determine if a null
hypothesis, known as Ho should be accepted or rejected. If the null is rejected, it is
in favor of an alternative hypothesis or Hu . The null hypothesis is rejected if its
probability falls below the significance level that is required.(.05) (Chapter 14, slide

U.S. Priest and Educator Murdered in Nigeria
School violence is not relegated to America alone. Reverend Dennis Osuagwu,
serving in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri in Nigeria s Imo state,
worked at the General House of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of
Mary and was also on staff at Imo Polytechnic School. He was brutally murdered on
his way home during an ambush on a deserted road. Assassins shot him a point blank

Osuagwu was a strict priest who was not afraid to speak his mind. This sometimes
rubbed people the wrong way and may have contributed to his death. He was firm in
his faith and guided his parishioners on their spiritual path, but he was not known to

There is the likelihood that the assassins carefully monitored the priest s movement
and laid in ambush for him on his track. I wonder why the Catholic priest chose to
use such a lonely bush path, knowing fully, the recent ceaseless bickering and
wrangling stemming from Imo Polytechnic.
Osuagwu had been back in Nigeria since 2011, but prior to that, for 11 years, he
served in two parishes in Louisiana, St. Ann Church in Lawtell, Louisiana, and at a
Louisiana Holy Family Catholic church. During his time in St. Landry Parish, he
studied at Southern University in Baton Rouge pursuing his doctorate in political
science. He returned to Louisiana twice in the last 4 years.
Those who knew him in the United States do not believe that this was a random act
of violence. They believe he was specifically targeted because of his beliefs. Norman

there, said, It wasn t just a random act. He believed in social justice for all and

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People Essay
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Summary The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People is a best selling book by Stephen R. Covey. The book has become
a management tool for many companies. Covey wrote the book after reviewing
literature on success from the last two centuries. Covey discovered that as he
reviewed the literature on success, that the most current literature was based
mainly on success based on having the right personality traits. Covey calls this the
Personality Ethic . The Personality Ethic focuses more on success being a product
of personality traits and maintaining a positive attitude. The author stresses that
people need to go back to the Character Ethic which is based on what Covey calls
natural laws that have always existed. The Character Ethic focuses on principles
such as fairness, integrity, honesty, human dignity, service and quality. Covey wants
people to examine their way of thinking from the inside out to see if we are
applying the Personality Ethic or the Character Ethic. The Seven Habits Covey
explains that habits are powerful factors in our lives and he defines habits as the
intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire . (Covey, pg 46 47). Effective habits are
defined as internalized principles and patterns of behavior. The Seven Habits that
Covey tells the reader about are in harmony with natural laws and therefore, in
harmony with the Character Ethic. On the paradigm that Covey has presented to the
reader, the bottom

normal profit as a type of cost to the firm? Recall that firms produce output using
four kinds of resources natural resources, labor, capital, and entrepreneurial ability.
The owner of the firm supplies some of the resources that the firm employs.
Normal profit is the return to the entrepreneurial ability and other resources
supplied by the firm s owners. If this profit is not as large as those individuals
could earn in their best alternative situation, they will switch the resources to that
alternative. So, we can think of normal profit as being the minimum return, or cost,
that is necessary to keep the firm running. 5.(Short Run Versus Long Run) What
distinguishes a firm s short run period from its long run period? In the short run, at
least one of the firm s resources is fixed, usually the size of the firm. In the long

to alter the firm s level of output, including the size of the firm. 6.(Law of

After the calculations you end up coming out with a rate of 14.87%. The third and
final part of question three asks what rate you will need if the interest is compounded
semiannually. All you have to do is double the amount of terms and you will come
out with a lower number of 7.177%. Since the interest is compounded semiannually
that means that you will need to times that number by two and you come out with
your final number of 14.35%.
In question four, Janet was asked to solve a question that deals with annuity
payments, specifically, ordinary annuities. It starts by asking of how much you
will make if you add $2,000 every year and it is compounded by 10% interest every
year. These, for the most part, are future value problems. The first one comes out
to be a future value of $12,210.20, which does not satisfy the need for $20,000. The
next part asks what the value would be if the interest was compounded
semiannually. You have to do an equation in order to find out what the effective
annual interest rate. Through this equation you come out with a value of 10.25%
and after the calculator calculations you come out with a future value of $12,271.11,
also not meeting the demand for that first year of college. The next part asks what
payment will you need in order to get to that $20,000 number and the present value
comes to be $3,275.95. Next, the case asks what original payment you would need in

some changes have affected every aspect of the operations from its early days, the
values, professionalism, honor, integrity, and respect helped shape the Border
Patrol from the early years and they still remain the same today. Since the very
beginning agents have been patrolling our borders, Mounted watchmen of the U.S.
Immigration Service patrolled the border in an effort to prevent illegal crossings
as early as 1904 (Border Patrol History, web). The agent s efforts were undertaken
only when resources permitted. The inspectors were all out of El Paso, Texas,
Though they never totaled more than seventy five, they patrolled as far west as
California trying to restrict the flow of illegal Chinese immigration (Border Patrol
History, web). In 1915, Congress approved a separate group of Mounted Guards.
Most rode on horseback, but a few operated cars and boats. Although these inspectors
had broader arrest authority, they still largely pursued Chinese immigrants trying to
avoid the Chinese exclusion laws. The agents were immigrant inspectors, assigned to
inspection stations, and could not watch the border at all times, Texas Rangers were
also often assigned to patrol duties by the state, and their efforts were noted as
singularly effective (Border Patrol History, web). Customs violations and intercepting
communications to the enemy seemed to be a concern than
Christian Beliefs Of The United Methodist Church
Since birth, I have been a Christian. Specifically, I belong to the United Methodist
Church. My mother was a Catholic, but had decided to become a United Methodist
and to raise me in that church. I have always believed in Christian beliefs such as
God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, as well as having read Biblestories since
childhood and participating in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, retreats,
and many other things. I have many essential memories of being in church, from
asking the pastor to allow me to finish the bread and grape juice from Communion at
the end of every Eucharist Sunday service (she always obliged) to being certified as a
Youth Lay Servant and giving a few sermons. My faith has been a big part of my life
for all nineteen years of it, and I try to live my life in a way I believe God wants me
to.
However, unlike many Christians who seem to always have criticism towards
every little transgression, I do not tell people things such as that they will go to
hell unless they conform to the way I believe they should act, based upon what
others say is written in the Bible. From my understanding of God, He would much
rather prefer me to love them despite their sins, as that is what Jesus did during His
time on Earth, as well as what He does at all times. I have seen many people who
will not or perhaps even cannot listen to what I say about my religion, because some
others had hurt them deeply in the name of God. The God I believe in would never

Similarities Between Lenin And Stalin
Lenin and Stalin were similar in a few ways, Lenin s ultimate goal for the Soviet
Union and the Communist party was World Revolution. World revolution was led by
the working class called the proletariat. With that Stalin has some of the similar ideas
but went down a different road to establish his idea and goal. When it comes to
Stalinism, there are essential features that are unique. Stalin used some ideas of
Marxismand Leninism along with his own spin in it. One big difference that makes
Stalin different from Lenin is the policy that each had. Lenin s idea was world
revolution, where Stalin used his idea of socialism in one country. Stalin s socialism
in one country focused more on building up the Soviet Unionand the Soviet Union is

The Five Year Plans were set up by Stalin and his right hand men; they set up these
goals in a few categories of the Soviet Union. It was called the Five Year Plan
because they hoped to achieve everything they set up in five years; once the goals
were achieved they would discuss and set up the next Five Year Plan. In the first
Five Year Plan, it focused on agriculture. Before the plan, the farmers and the
workers essentially worked on their own farms that were run by their families,
allowing them to have the freedom to do as they pleased, but with Socialism on
the brink everything changed. Socialism includes the government in charge of
everything, meaning that collective farming was the new thing. With that farmers
and the peasants were taken away from the farm and then everyone was combined
into what they called a collective farm. This meant that everyone on that farm had
to work together to get the outcome that they wanted. People didn t have the choice
of having their farm put into a collective farm. In the case if anyone didn t like the
idea or spoke out against the actions they would be shipped to Siberia where they
would work for hard labor or they could be shipped to concentration camps. The
idea of dekulakization happened to the kulaks, meaning that if there were villages
that had too many peasants would be liquidated. It was the same concept as
collective farming. A key thing with the Kulaks was that a Rich peasant was a bad
peasant. Stalin s reasoning behind the planned economy and the use of collective
farming would make the Union a better place. With that the government would be in
control of everything. That was supposed to make the Union more efficient and
effective, allowing everyone to have access to and produce more food in order to
feed the growing number of people and

The Importance Of Parental Involvement In Education
This study determined parental involvement had no significant impact on the reading
growth of students participating in a Reading Recovery program in rural North
Carolina. The study utilized Reading Recovery entrance and exit scores as well as
parental involvement percentage scores for each student. In order to determine if a
significant impact existed at this location, the researcher grouped parental
participation into high, medium, and low levels of involvement based on the overall
percentage score and compared the growth levels of students among those parental
groups.
Federal mandates require qualifying schools to utilize a certain amount of title 1
funding toward parental involvement programming. These federal requirements ...

In analyzing the first research question, the researcher concluded there was not a
significant difference in the overall reading growth scores of Reading Recovery
students based on whether parental involvement percentages were high, or low. To
draw a more valid conclusion, the researcher compared the reading growth and
parental involvement scores among various races of the students. Three categories
surfaced, Black, White, and Hispanic. The study determined there was no statistical
difference among racial identifiers. In addition, the researcher also compared the
reading growth and parental involvement scores between male and female students.
Similarly, the researcher concluded that there was no significant difference between
the genders. Drawing from this overall analysis, the researcher concluded that
parental involvement alone did not significantly increase reading growth scores in a
Reading Recovery program. This chapter examines the practical significance of the
findings, the limitations, implications, and finally, the recommendations for more
research.
Practical Significance
The increased accountability placed on public schools in the area of student growth
and achievement, in particularly reading (Warren, 2010), forces educational
institutions to maximize resources due to limited funding as well as requirements on
funding. In order to maximize parents as a
Selection of an Appropriate Investment Plan
Investments the company will engage will consist only of investments with high
moral and ethical character. The management, after a thorough investigation of their
background and subsequent accolades should be of the highest standard of integrity.
Any form of misconduct or misdeeds in the recent past will disqualify the company
from investment. Through social investments, the company can increase resources
dedicated to the overall socially conscious initiative and create ways by which the
same money can be reinvested over and over again. Below are three categories which
should help in assisting the selection of socially responsible investments. Program
related investments: Investments that support charitable purposes aligned with the
company s mission statement. Program related investments form many companies
are generally structured as loans, loan guarantees, or equity investments. Mission
related deposits: Deposits made to federally insured depository institutions including
traditional banks, community development financial institutions, and credit unions.
This is similar in concept to basic consumer banking of check and savings accounts.
These deposits are used primarily for socially conscious issues that require immediate
funding. They are generally structured as insured certificates of deposit or share
certificates. Mission related investments: Investments that are intended to generate
market rates of return but have a social benefit as well. Every recession

Michelangelo Buonarroti was a natural born artist. As an artist he was capable of
different mediums of expressing his artistic talent. However he much preferred
sculpting out of them all, it made him most satisfied. When Pope Julius II
experienced Michelangelo s painting he insisted that Michelangelo share his talent
with the rest of Italy. Julius II also commissioned Buonarrotiwith other artistic
projects but none were as important as that of the Sixtine Capella(Sistine Chapel).
Michelangelo didn t want to paintthe ceiling of the chapel, it was too large of a
project and even more he didn t want to paint at all. He was an excellent painter but

Considering, Michelangelo went on to be one of the greatest artists of the
Renaissance era, it was very beneficial to publicize his artwork, in particular his
painting. He was influential in that he inspired a whole new generation to take a
greater interest in the arts, some later even becoming as influential as Buonarroti.
So this, one could say, is more than just cause to say exploit Michelangelo and his
artwork, the semi sacrifice of one man s happiness for a huge influence throughout
the world and even throughout time! After considering this side of the pendulum we
can look at the wrongdoing of Julius II through the eyes of Michelangelo.
Michelangelo, an unmarried man, was very involved in his art, both personally and
making a living doing commissioned works. As earlier stated painting was not his
favorite medium and to ask him to do such an important project such as the chapel
would be putting him on the spot. But to do so from a position of ultimate authority
and power would be a life decision! Michelangelo Buonarroti did not want to disgrace
his country and faith by refusing the commission, however it would be such a huge
compromise to accept it. Refusing the commission would indeed do just that, disgrace
his both his country and his faith, at that time in Roman culture

Protecting the environment is an important theme in Scat by Carl Hiaasen. For
example, one of the antagonists, Red Diamond Energy Corporation, does not seem
to care about endangered panthers or committing felonies. Red Diamond Energy
is an oil drilling corporation located in the Florida Everglades. The company is
headed by Drake McBride, who is trying to prove to his rich dad that he can own a

Drake McBride, who promised him big bucks. Though Bayliss had faith in the
sketchy operation in the beginning, he is now doubting McBride s plan. They are
illegally drilling on property owned by the Florida government just to get money,
which is the conflict of the story. The property is owned and controlled by the
Florida government because it is a natural habitat for endangered Florida
The Hazards of E-voting Essay
The Hazards of E voting
A democracy can only be effective when it runs efficiently, when the will of the
people is transmitted through the corridors of power. It can only hit its zenith if the
most important function of democracy, voting, is carried out flawlessly. Although
flawlessness has never been achieved, men have certainly tried to keep the voting
system as efficient as possible, with the least possible amounts of votes being lost or
mis counted. Human error is of course, uncontrollable. This error combined with the
partiality of all humans, prompted the development of machines that would register,
store and count the ballots which were cast. Electronic voting, or e voting, soon
found advocates and lots of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Computer scientists from coast to coast have warned that the machines sometimes
err in counting votes and could be easily compromised by hackers intent on
disrupting elections. In either case, they say, a manual recount would be
meaningless if it was based on corrupted electronic data.5 A paper trail would be
used to recount the votes if it were suspected that the machine was not giving an
accurate count of the votes. Most machines cannot print a so called voter verified
paper trail, so when a politician demands a recount, most DREs will simply spit out
the same set of disputed numbers again and again. 6 Not only does this make it
impossible to have effective recounts that could help in the event of a serious
computing error, it also puts vote tampering into the spotlight. If a paper trail is non
existent then it would be much harder to detect if the votes have been tampered with.
This brings into question the veracity of the programmers, is everything that they
mention about the programs capabilities true? What bugs exists and have they been
corrected?
Matt Zimmermann, an EFF attorney who is dealing with e voting said,
What we want to know is, what are these machines actually doing? How are these
things programmed? Are there errors in the programming? 7 When casting
Wretched of the Earth Essay
Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon explores the roles of violence, class, and
political organization in the process of decolonization. Within a Marxist framework,
Fanon theorizes and prophesizes the successes and failures of independence
movements within colonized nations. He exalts the proletariat as a revolutionary
class that is first to realize the necessity of violence in the removal of colonial
regimes. Yet the accomplishment and disappointments of the proletariat are at the
hand of men. Fanon neglects women in terms of the proletariat s wishes and efforts.
In spite of this exclusion, Fanon nonetheless develops a theory that could apply to the
proletariat as a whole, women included. For although Fanon failed to acknowledge

Such an attitude entails drastic and violent methods. Through this violence the
revolution can succeed. Yet even after the colonial regime is removed, the
infrastructure that was imposed continues to control the people. The bourgeoisie, the
individuals who led the revolution leave the proletariat and the peasants disappointed.
That which they have been promised is often unfulfilled or can only be considered
insufficient. The spirit of revolution remains, and in time the proletariat will rise
again, continuing to trust in the process.
European notions of modernity transformed Egypt into a society where the female
peasantry became the most oppressed class. These colonial influences produced an
economy, which satisfied the needs of Europe and frustrated the needs of the
Egyptian peasantry. Prior to the early 1820s, the Egyptian peasantry practiced a
subsistence economy, which allowed the peasant family to feed and maintain itself.
The families were left relatively autonomous as state officials had little interest in
this class with the exception of the payment of taxes. Under this system, women in
the Egyptian peasantry were able to lead a somewhat egalitarian existence. Although
tasks were divided according to gender, hours of labor were relatively equal.
Muhammad Ali s rise to power resulted in an immediate change in the economy. Ali
had a strong affinity for the modernity of Europe and actively attempted to

Hopkins, Lisa. Christopher Marlowe, Renaissance Dramatist. Edinburgh U.P., 2008.
This book is a detailed breakdown of Christopher Marlowe s plays. The book
discusses how Christopher Marlowe s upbringing and the time period he was born in
influenced his works. The author of this book conveys to the reader that Christopher
Marlowe used himself and own personal experiences to implement in his
characters and this is done especially in Doctor Faustus. The author describes how
Christopher Marlowe s character is conveyed into Doctor Faustus. Not only that
but, the author provides detail about why Doctor Faustus made the choices he did
because he was a copy of Marlowe and his life. I will use this information from this
book in my paper to create a character compare and contrast of Christopher Marlowe
and Dr. Faustus.
His judgement may have paralleled Marlowe s own: familiar with what was offered
by Cambridge, Marlowe showed no known signs of regret at moving on from it in,
and there is no evidence that he ever visited it again (Hopkins 82).

Summary Of Priam In The Book Two Of The Aeneid
The death scene of Priam at the hands of Pyrrhus in book two of the Aeneid is, in
my opinion, hands down the piГЁce de rГ©sistance of the epic. This potent
excerpt shines in providing the reader with not only intense visual imagery, but
also (when translating from the latin at least) opportunities to interpret the text to
one s desire (to an extent, of course). Perhaps the most significant of these instances
of interpretation is in lines 2.515 516, and that of course is the describing of
Hecuba and her daughters as columbae head longing in a gloomy storm. Columba
is a 1st Declension, feminine noun which WhitakersWords.com defines as both
pigeon and dove, so if columba can be translated as either bird, which is the correct
one? Well Vergil allows his genius to be noticed because he leaves that to the
reader. The reader is not only allowed to, but partially expected by Vergil to not
only focus on the certain qualities of the two birds in order to decide which bird
best suits Hecuba and company, but to also determine certain qualities of Hecuba
and her daughters that one of the two birds would best represent. Two simple lines in
an epic that is just shy of 10,000 total lines (all impressively formatted into dactylic
hexameterfor the entirety of the text, I might add) induce the reader into a circuitous
train of thought that is only halted when the reader decides what they want the text
to mean, not whatever Vergil would have wanted. For instance, pigeons nowadays
are often referred to as flying rats which imposes quite the negative connotation
towards pigeons, denouncing them as scavenging, pestering, and downright
disgusting. Doves on the other hand, are generally thought to be peaceful, calm,
and elegant animals that can even be quite beautiful to some. Just look at each bird
s appetite; doves shimmy around the ground searching for small seeds, and
occasionally an insect or two to eat if need be, while pigeons can be seen
scavenging for anything left behind or tossed into a trash heap by humans, a
particularly vile lifestyle for a particularly vile animal.
This thought process leads most readers to interpret columbae as doves rather than
pigeons since Hecuba is simply taking shelter from the chaos around

Allen Ginsberg is one of the great authors of the 20th century and he was one of the
influential people who created and inspired the beat generation in literature. It was
not until Ginsberg, Kerouac, and Burroughs started writing that the young generation
in 1950 s America had a voice they felt was representing them in literature. Ginsberg
s most noted piece is the poem, Howl which he finished writing in 1955, being
published in 1956 along with other poems in the book titled Howl and Other Poem.

George S. Patton Rhetorical Leadership
Respected by most, yet feared by many, General George S. Patton was one of the
most profound leaders the United States Army has ever had. He took part throughout
the Mexican Revolution, World War One, and dominating the stage throughout World
War Two. His career as an officer took stage shortly after his graduation from The
United States ArmyMilitary Academy, where he branched as a cavalry officer
(Patton, Wikipedia, 2017). Inpatient and young, he eventually went on his first
deployment as a lieutenant to take part in the battle of San Miguelito. It was in
Mexico that Patton met General John Joseph Pershing, where it is believed that he
based a lot of his military leadership styles on the way Pershing led his troops
(Pershing, Wikipedia, 2017). Through imitating Pershing, George had some of the
most courageous leadership styles known widely throughout, where many praised
his bravery, yet several found him foolish. Following the battle of San Miguelito,
Patton was promoted to Captain and appointed by General Pershing to the head of
the new AEF Tank Corps. (Pershing, Wikipedia, 2017). It was throughout the process
of developing the AEF Tank Corps. that I feel Patton demonstrated his most profound
adaptive leadership trait, drive. George Patton was driven in anything and everything
he did for the AEF Tank Corps. He implemented his own ideas, tactics, design,
uniform, and procedures in a way that revolutionized war (PATTON 360, 2015). The

Epidamnus Mistaken Identity
In a play about mistaken identity, the characters are the main focus. The characters
of the Menaechmus twins are at the core of the story. They are introduced as
having very different personality traits despite their identical appearances;
Menaechmus of Epidamnus is described as normally gay, an inveterate jokester,
and always out for a good time (Act I), while Menaechmus of Syracuse is shrewd,
calculation, and cynical (Act II). In this way, the twins serve as foils for each
other. However, on this particular day, due to his irritating wife, the twin from
Epidamnus is in a fowl mood, matching him to his brother s mood, which the
people of Epidamnus experienced during their encounters on that day. It is also
Menaechmus of Epidamnus joking manner that allows for the mistake the occur.
When the twin from Syracuse adamantly states that he has never stepped foot in
Epidamnus before and is not familiar with anyone or what they say he has done,
they believe it to just be good old Menaechmus playing a joke on them, as he always
does. The twins also appear to share some of each other s traits. Though Menaechmus

action of the play to continue, instead of Menaechmus of Syracuse coming to the

identical to him and shares his name, i.e. his long lost twin whom he is in Epidamnus

1 THE BILDUNGSROMAN NOVEL
This German term began to be used in the second half of the 18th century by the
critic and philosopher Wilhelm Dilthey. He stressed five main points about the
bildungsroman novels:
(1) the idea of Bildung, or formation, cultivation, education, shaping of a single main
character, normally of a young man; (2) individualism, especially the emphasis on the
uniqueness of the protagonist and the primacy of his private life and thoughts,
although these are at the same time representative of an age and culture; (3) the
biographical element, usually supplied from the author s own life in what Dilthey
calls the conscious and artistic presentation of what is typically human through the
depiction of a particular individual life ; (4) the

entrepreneurship. Colombia shares 8 holidays with the U.S, for example,
Christmas, Mother s Day, Father s Day, New Year s, and a couple more. The foods
on the other hand show no similarities at all, the U.S. is known for real fatty food,
which is we are the most obese country in the world. Colombia does not have some
of the foods we do, like S mores, Chilidogs, Buffalo Wings, or Hamburgers, Colombia

Counseling Skills Essay
The three concepts I have chosen to identify for this book report assignment are,
basic empathy, motivation, and reframing. I feel that those concepts are important for
counsellors to have as skils.
The first concept i will be discussing is empthy, which is discussed in Chapter six
(Shebib, 2003). Empathy is the ability to correctly interpret another person s feelings
to show them you understand. So, empathy is not something we have, but something
we do. Empathy is a skill and an attitude and not a feeling (sympathy is a feeling). It
is about being able and willing to understand another person from their own point of
view, without your own thoughts, feelings, opinions and judgements getting in the
way of this understanding. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CLIENT: Yeah very frustrated and mad that she s hiding from me.
COUNSELLOR: It sounds like you would like this frienship to work out. (In triad
quote, 2006)
As you can see from this example, the counsellor has summarized expressed feelings
from the client.
The second concept I will be discussing is motivation, which is one of the five
empowering activities discussed in chapter seven (Shebib, 2003). Motivation is an
important concept when it comes to counselling because it can lead into change for
the client. A counsellor is key for inhibiting change in a client, but most importantly
the client has to involve their commitment in the change they would like to see.
According to Shebib (1993) Change is stressful because it requires giving up
established patterns of behaviour or thinking, and clients will differ in the extent to
which they have the skill or energy to take the associated risks (p.196). Also, there
are many problems associated with movitating clients such as: lazy clients, clients in
denial, involuntary, ambivalent, energized, and burnt out clients. Counsellors need
to be aware of those problems because counsellors need to apply a variety of skills
to help the different types of problem clients when the time arises. An example of
how I, the helper, used motivation within a session is shown below. My client at the
time of this session would be considered a engergized client because the client is
already motivated
Rhetorical Analysis Of Liza Featherstone s Article
Rhetorical analyses of What s a girl to read?
In her article What s A Girl To Read? Liza Featherstone takes up the subject of teen
magazines. She does a humorous but thorough critique on the newest teen magazines
that have been published and later on attempts to introduce magazines that she
believes are better suited for teenage girls. Featherstone looks down on publications
that emphasize most of their print on Fashion, relationships and celebrities and
advocates for magazines that stimulate intellectual growth, promote a healthy body
image and include diversity. As an active journalist, columnist and activist, Liza
Featherstone makes a good point in her article all while using most abundantly three
rhetorical tools: logos, ethos and pathos that she wove into a studied text organization
and a simple writing style.
It is through ethos that Featherstone does a great job at defending her viewpoint,
because her argument lacks a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Logos is mostly rational, and at times an undeniable truth, it can also come from
common sense. (Fahnestock, The Appeals: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos ). The author
does not have many factual arguments because her whole article is based on her
opinion about teen magazines, yet she succeeds in being very clear and reasonable.
She actually uses ethos to reinforce logos in her arguments, which makes it safe to
say that her arguments are solid. She makes a few points in a humorous manner,
(...)We know only one thing for certain about a girlwho picks up a magazine: She
doesn t spend every minute of her life watching TV and she knows a lot of facts
about every magazine (... )A national quarterly run out of Boston that roughly
estimates its readership at 45,000 (...)Just a few issues old from the fitness oriented

writing style, and Pathos was used to enhance
How Bladensburg Is A Small Town Within Prince George s...
Bladensburg is a small town within Prince George s County, Maryland. Though only
1.1 miles in size , Bladensburg is able to boast a rich history due to its placement
along the Anacostia River and its proximity to Washington D.C. The name of
Bladensburg comes from Thomas Bladen a resident of Prince Georges County and
Marylands provincial governor from1742 to1747. Bladen was the first provincial
governor of Marylandto be born in Maryland, but the land that made up the town
before 1742 had a different name. It was called Beall town after Ninian Beall, a
Scottish immigrant who bought the land after he finished his time as an indentured
servant. Beall s land was known as Black Ash or Black Oak when he owned the land

However, the court insisted taverns would not affect the value of their property and
allowed others to apply for tavern licenses. The job of tradesmen likely extended to
others in the town, which included lawyers, and doctors. The occupations of citizens
outside of those listed above are not widely discussed in sources on town history. This
aspect is unfortunately left to speculation and assumption. It is known that, the town
depended on agriculture although the size of the farms that supported this economy
is unknown, but tobacco was a common crop, so the unknown townspeople probably
farmers.
Bladensburg was a port town, so sailors and longshoreman could have been living in
the town at that time. There were also slaves and indentured servants within the town
some, of which came through the town s port .
The port of Bladensburg was forty feet, able to accommodate large ships. At its
height, the port s handling of ocean faring ships and freight was second only to
Yorktown, Virginia. Imports into the Port of Bladensburg included slaves, tobacco,
indentured servants, rum, molasses, cotton, and more. In addition to importing
tobacco, the port was also an official tobacco grading station. Some of the most
prominent and wealthy figures in the town gained their wealth from the port
including Christopher Lowndes, a town leader and
Summary Of Soldier s Home By Ernest Hemingway
When considering any war s consequences, it is always more complicated to bring
people back to life than reconstruct buildings. Therefore, national governments are
obliged to do both with more attention to the first aspect. Everybody is responsible
for a body and soul of a soldier returned back home from a warhis family, friends,
neighbors, strangers, and his country in whole. This is the best way to thank him for
a peaceful future achieved due to his destroyed life. This paper researches the
problem using two relevant literary resources, a short story Soldier s Home by Ernest
Hemingway and an article The Homecoming, and Then the Hard Part written by a
veteran Antony Swofford. It hereafter discusses the similarities of these readings and
defines the article s contribution to our understanding of the story in order to get a
better comprehension of a returned soldier s mental state to encourage them.... Show

It is obvious that he feels himself uninvolved, detached, and restrained. The world
seems to be too complex for him, and Krebs wants everything to be simple.
Hemingway describes this man s feelings asserting that here at home it was all to
complicated. He [Krebs] knew he could never get through it all [relations with a
woman] again (99). The man wishes to have a simple life with no consequences
where he can rest and avoid talking, or more precisely lying about a war. Krebs
found that to be listened to at all he had to lie... He did not want any consequences
ever again (Hemingway 98 99). For some reason, he feels he cannot love and pray
anymore; it seams as if his soul was removed by this war. Obviously, the hero wants
to be supported and guided in order to understand his war experience and recover to
life in the long

the seat on stage right at the end of the row, this audience member settles in for an
unforgettable Kennesaw State University production. As the house lights dim, 2017

The story begins on Irina s birthday with all three sisters sitting around having a
conversation. Olga cannot stop talking about their father s death which happened
a year earlier. Each sister seems saddened but not completely distraught over the
situation. Masha is dressed in all black, and the audience can presume that she is
dressed for mourning. The scene continues, and servants and visitors alike flutter
in and out wishing Irina the best on her birthday. Olga and Irina wish for nothing
more than to travel to their home city of Moscow and vow to return in the coming
months. Near the end of this portion, Andrey proposes to Natasha, and as the next
scene occurs, they are both residing in the house and have a child. During the rest
of the play, each sister has her own problems occurring. Olga comes home tired
each day from working with the children in her class. She is becoming
disillusioned with being alone and wishes for a husband to have and to hold. While
attempting to stay sane in her teaching position, she also is trying to keep the
household from falling apart. Irina begins working at the telegram company but
quickly becomes exhausted with the mundane, repetitive tasks of working for a
living. She also struggles with the idea of being courted by the Baron, in fear that
she will never be able to return to Moscow. Masha is unhappy with her marriage to
Kulygin, feeling as if he is rather annoying and she got married too young. She

Although the firm has been working on maximum efficiency, Tom Mathis has come
up with a better solution to solve the problem. He plans to cut costs by purchasing
supplies from overseas sellers. Mr. Mathis knew that this strategy would have
increased the cost and time of delivery. The factory buyers should also take the time
to investigate any potential new vendors. So he is using information technology to
implement the program and to improve the process of inventory restocking.
(Larenernest, 2010) However, workers have been so accustomed to the Kanban
system that it is difficult for them to change the system, so there is a high resistance
to change among the business. In addition, it is well known that Microsoft managed
to reduce inventory levels and increase production rates without significant
investment in information technology. They settled with the traditional method of
trying to adopt new methods and many operating firms were deliberately separated
from the technology because the first thing the experts tell Kanban factory to do is to
disconnect the Material Requirements Planning System (MRP). MRP is a system
used to manage manufacturing processes in terms of production planning,
scheduling, and inventory control. This causes another problem for Mr. Mathis since
the firm does not have the internal resources needed to support the system that he
wants to employ. (Carr, 2005)

Australopithecus Africanus Research Paper
Australopithecus africanus is a species of human like and ape like animal. The
Australopithecus africanus lived primarily in Southern Africa. A man by the name
of Raymond dart set out to find one and he did. It was half ape and half human, and
the skull of a child in Johannesburg, South Africa says Brain. Dart chipped and
chipped away at the rock containing the skull until eventually he was able to make
out the child s face. The child had a full set of milk teeth and also its permanent
molars in place.
Dart suggested that the skull, teeth, and jaw were closer to that of a humanoid. A
humanoid is something else that has the appearance of a human being. He also noted
that the spinal cord was connected to the brain which means that it
The Mobile Phone Industry, Like The Internet
Sprint Nextel Merger Introduction: The mobile phone industry, like the Internet, is
one of the fastest and ever developing industries. Since 1994, the production of cell
phones has increased from 24 million to 182 million in wireless phone. The market
of cell phones in the United States is constantly increasing and the 162 million users
will increase in the next few years. . This tremendous increase is due to the current
and ongoing development of technology and innovation in perfecting the cell phone.
Throughout the history of the mobile phone industries collaborate with each other in
order to stay successful in this fast changing field. Worldwide wireless companies
have been cooperating with each other. This collaboration is due to a lot of reasons
that all relate to the firm s attempts to stay profitable. Wireless companies have the
opportunity to get market shares for both products and accessories. When these
companies merge they can then share their markets and products and offer a good
service to its customers. Without working together smaller wireless companies at
times fall victim to the strong competitions and they will eventually become bankrupt
and forced to shut down. Therefore, collaboration is necessary within the cell phone
industry to maintain profits and increase customer base. One of the ways that cell
phone companies maintain profits and increase customer base is through merger or
acquisition with other companies to share new technologies for

She is stuck between her two choices to choose because they both promise something that she desires; freedom. It was unclear as to which side she will choose, as her opinions changes throughout the novel. In the beginning, she was a patriot. her friend, Curzon, promised her that if she becomes a spy for them against the Locktons, (who were loyalists), then she and her sister will receive freedom. Despite the counter argument the other slaves gave, Isabel decides to join the British cause and become a Loyalist. The novel states, I will run and join the British and They d grant me freedom and give me work. (both quotes by Isabel 174). By these two quotes, Isabel believes that if she joined the British, she would be able to gain freedom to become independent. Then, she plans to find work and earn enough money to find her sister Ruth, who Isabel still believes was sold away. She believes that the British offers much more than what the Patriots did, and since they failed her last time, she is sketchy about joining them again and doesn t really trust them. She believes that they want freedom for the colonists, not for slaves. Thus, she becomes a

  • 6. Satire In Dr Strangelove Stanley Kubrick film, Dr. Stangelove, or: How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, presents a sarcastic comedy about a commander of a U.S. Air Force Base, General Jack D. Ripper, who diverts his B 52 bombers from airborne alert to an attack on the Soviet Union with nuclear weapons. Some way into his work on the script, however, Kubrick realized the story was too appalling for serious treatment and decided to recast it as an out and out satire (Bromwich). Kubrick could have kept the film in a serious tone most people wouldn t even have the interest in watching it because the world is more interested in something that would make them laugh but also something that will catch their attention. Throughout the film, there were many patterns... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Civilian and military relations are important because it determines who controls the armed forces and the extent to which the armed forces control the country. During the film, Dr. Strangelove, asked the question, Is the President in control of the U.S. nuclear weapons? Most military personnel are not okay with the fact that when something occurs like the Civil War that they cannot make a decision themselves, instead they have to wait for the President to come up with a plan and then they are to execute whatever the President decides. Generals Turgidson and Ripper do not seem to respect the President. During the film the President wanted to talk and figure out a plan before he decides if taking out 90 percent of the civilian population is something he wanted to happen while he is the president. Civilians often think twice about what to do when something bad happens but military personal are prompt with taking action when something happens. During the film when crew members received word from the base that they were set for Wing Attack Plan R , and Major Kong said, Folks back home is counting on ya and by golly we aren t about to let them down showed that the first thought on their mind was civilians and other people before themselves. No one ever thinks twice about why the military did this or did that. People often think the military cares only about themselves but it can be shown by the crew members that that is not true. The military is often put into situations where they have to quickly make a decision and not think twice about it. This can be hard to do but the military always tries to do what seems to be the best not only for others such as civilians but also themselves. Another scene in the film is right after the base got notified of a possible attack, it is said over the intercom Our nation is counting on you and I know you won t let them down . This scene again
  • 7. Process Essay-ewives And Brewers Alewives and brewers were peasants who had special jobs in addition to the agricultural work they did on the manor. Ale was a highly popular medieval drink that was brewed from barley or other grains. There was a step by step procedure in making ale (Singman 153). First, the seeds were heated and roasted, in a process called malting (Singman 53). This allowed the seeds to convert into soluble starches, adding flavor to the ale (Singman 53). It was then ground, boiled in water to extract its contents, and strained to remove the solid (Singman 53). Herbal flavorings were added to give more flavor and the liquid was then fermented with yeast(Singman 53). After a batch was ready, an alewife displayed a sign telling peasants the ale was ready... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because it was the basic diet for people in the Middle Ages, each household required a large and steady supply, and the ale was served fresh (Placeway). Tenants who did work such as harvesting or plowing for the lord were well fed and enjoyed an unlimited supply of ale (Adamson 91). In medieval society, the favorite adult recreation was drinking (Gies and Gies, 1990 103). Men and women gathered in a tavern, usually in the house of a neighbor who recently brewed a batch of ale (Gies and Gies, 1990 103). Each religious community was given a gallon of ale a day, but some were allowed more if they wanted (Mortimer 87). The price of the drink was regulated by law ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). Brewers were suppose to call for an ale taster before selling any ale ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). An ale taster was appointed to make sure any ale sold by the alewife was made to the correct standard ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). He or she regulated the brewing process and took an oath to be responsible and mature (Gies and Gies, 1978 161). The ale taster made sure the correct price was charged and the correct measures were used ( The Alewife, A Writer s Perspective). Ale was a very important part in medieval life because so many people
  • 8. The Integration Of The Mdgs Into The Indonesia s National... 3.2.The NLTDP, NMTDP and the MDGs As a reflection of Indonesia s increased willingness to play a cooperative role in the international arena, the government is becoming increasingly aware of the importance of providing a systematic data to measure development progress. Although there are many instances where various international development programs are being incorporated into the national development plan, in this dissertation I present a case study on the integration of the MDGs into the Indonesia s national development plan as a specific example where the Indonesian government takes a proactive role in integrating an international development agenda into its national development plan. 3.2.1.Why MDGs? Aside from the MDGs being the first comprehensively outlined global development goals that were agreed by UN member states, the fact that they provide specific indicators illustrate that the MDGs are able to provide the initial frameworks for developing countries to achieve development objectives deemed as important by setting specific goals and targeted indicators which statutory countries have pledged to fulfil by the end of 2015. The multi dimensional nature of what consist of development as outlined in the MDGs will also enable us to incorporate a more holistic view of development, as opposed to the traditional interpretation of development that almost exclusively refers to economic progress. Furthermore, Indonesia was one of the 189 UN member state signees of the
  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Gene Therapy The beauty of the human race is the complexity in which our bodies present themselves in comparison to other organisms that live on Earth. Evolution has taken its sweet time to produce the alpha organisms we have become today, and at the pinnacle of human evolution is our DNA: a unique, intricate, and complex representation of millions of years of evolutionary mutations. The number one cause of genetic diversity is mutations; mutations occur randomly and can produce beneficial or harmful nucleotide sequences. Nucleotide sequences code for the production of proteins that perform the majority of roles in our bodies. When harmful mutations halt protein production or cause malicious protein production, the body can be effected in numerous ways. The majority of disorders expressed by humans across the globe are genetic, meaning that the DNAof the individual with the genetic disorder contains errors or mutations that cause the subsequent symptoms to occur. Gene therapy is a field of study that focuses on the correction of mutations in DNA sequences. The ultimate goal of Gene Therapy is to prevent the inheritance of mutations that cause genetic disorders. In the medical community this is called Germ line Gene Therapy. While this is the least ventured area of gene therapy, its has been proven to be the most promising in reference to advancing medicine to new heights when the ethical situation changes. The second goal of Gene Therapy is to cure the patients with the genetic
  • 10. Pros And Cons Of Drone Attacks On February 4, 2002, for the first time, an unmanned predator drone was used in an air strike near the city of Khost in the Paktia province of Afghanistan. Three men were killed in the strike, although the target of the mission, Osama Bin Laden, turned out to not be there. There has been much debate as to whether the benefits of drone warfare outweigh the risks, however there are more pros then cons to drone warfare (Powers). The use of drone strikes has increased over the years. Only 50 strikes were approved by the Bush administration, whereas the Obama administration approved 506 strikes (Powers). Drone strikes haven proven to be very useful. They helped to bring down a huge terrorist threat to the United States. According to Michael V. Hayden, a retired Air Force four star general and author of Playing to the Edge: American Intelligence in the Age of Terror, drone strikes disrupted terrorist plots and reduced the original Qaeda organization along the Afghanistan Pakistan border to a shell of its former self. . Drone strikes were crucial in stopping Osama Bin Laden . The strikes worried the leadership of Al Qaeda, and they wanted to stop operations and go into hiding. Drone strikes have succeeded in causing fear throughout Al Qaeda and taking out many members of the organization, making any losses well worth it (Hayden). One major downfall in using drones in warfare is the loss of civilian lives, but the military takes many steps to prevent this. It is debated as to
  • 11. The Looming Of A Miracle Worker Essay The Looming Shadow If life could be solved on good intentions alone then the government would be revered as a miracle worker, unfortunately in reality good intentions are often followed by those who would seek to profit from them Across American history this trait is a pattern that has repeated itself numerous of times, from the past century alone good intentions created the great depression and the savings and Loans collapse. Most recently the new good intention became low income families, and from it blossomed a thorny rose of a new standard of business ethics. The intention of assisting low income families started becoming more prevalent under Bill Clinton s administration, and can traced to 1992 with the creation of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO). In time, from administration to administration while people either looked away or got paid under the table the remaining ethics of every the American industry vanished, leaving in its wake a crisis which even today remains as a shadow on the minds of all Americans. A shadow greater than the one created by the explosion of the USS Maine in the harbor of Havana, or even the darkness on the day of Pearl Harbor. The reason the shadow remains is because of that very vanishing ethics, which had created it under the guise of good intentions starting with OFHEO. In 1992 the Federal Housing Enterprises Financial Safety and Soundness Act was passed, which was responsible for the creation of the OFHEO

RESULTS REPORTING When faced with the task to research and report service quality within Marley s Motors, no technique does a better job than the SERVQUAL model. The service quality gaps model compares a company s service performance to the expectations of their customers. These expectations are broken down into five separate dimensions. These dimensions include reliability, assurance, tangibles, empathy, and responsiveness. The analysis that was performed for this report was based on the empathy dimension of the SERVQUAL model. Empathy is known as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another (Oxford Dictionaries). In the case of Marley s, we used three attributes to measure how successfully Marley s handled the empathy dimension. These attributes included friendliness of staff, the amount of attention received by customers, and how well the customers needs we met. These three attributes combine to comprise the overall satisfaction with empathy. This dimension then influences overall satisfaction with Marley s service department. HYPOTHESIS TESTING Statistical hypothesis testing is used to determine if a null hypothesis, known as Ho should be accepted or rejected. If the null is rejected, it is in favor of an alternative hypothesis or Hu . The null hypothesis is rejected if its probability falls below the significance level that is required.(.05) (Chapter 14, slide 5) A critical alpha value of .05 is used to represent the probability of accepting the

Reverend Dennis Osuagwu, serving in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri in Nigeria s Imo state, worked at the General House of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and was also on staff at Imo Polytechnic School. He was brutally murdered on his way home during an ambush on a deserted road. Assassins shot him a point blank range. Osuagwu was a strict priest who was not afraid to speak his mind. This sometimes rubbed people the wrong way and may have contributed to his death. I wonder why the Catholic priest chose to use such a lonely bush path, knowing fully, the recent ceaseless bickering and wrangling stemming from Imo Polytechnic. • 15. The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People Essay The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Summary The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a best selling book by Stephen R. Covey. The book has become a management tool for many companies. Covey wrote the book after reviewing literature on success from the last two centuries. Covey discovered that as he reviewed the literature on success, that the most current literature was based mainly on success based on having the right personality traits. Covey calls this the Personality Ethic . The Personality Ethic focuses more on success being a product of personality traits and maintaining a positive attitude. The author stresses that people need to go back to the Character Ethic which is based on what Covey calls natural laws that have always existed. The Character Ethic focuses on principles such as fairness, integrity, honesty, human dignity, service and quality. Covey wants people to examine their way of thinking from the inside out to see if we are applying the Personality Ethic or the Character Ethic. The Seven Habits Covey explains that habits are powerful factors in our lives and he defines habits as the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire . (Covey, pg 46 47). Effective habits are defined as internalized principles and patterns of behavior. The Seven Habits that Covey tells the reader about are in harmony with natural laws and therefore, in harmony with the Character Ethic. On the paradigm that Covey has presented to the reader, the bottom

However, if he raised soybeans, he could earn $200 per acre. Is he currently earning an economic profit? Why or why not? Amos McCoy is not currently making an economic profit, despite the fact that he is making an accounting profit. Recall that firms produce output using four kinds of resources natural resources, labor, capital, and entrepreneurial ability. The owner of the firm supplies some of the resources that the firm employs. Normal profit is the return to the entrepreneurial ability and other resources supplied by the firm s owners. If this profit is not as large as those individuals could earn in their best alternative situation, they will switch the resources to that alternative. So, we can think of normal profit as being the minimum return, or cost, that is necessary to keep the firm running. 5.(Short Run Versus Long Run) What distinguishes a firm s short run period from its long run period? In the short run, at least one of the firm s resources is fixed, usually the size of the firm. In the long run, all the resources are variable. That is, the quantities of all resources can change to alter the firm s level of output, including the size of the firm. 6.(Law of Diminishing Marginal Returns) As a farmer, you must decide how many times during the year to plant a new crop. Since the interest is compounded semiannually that means that you will need to times that number by two and you come out with your final number of 14.35%. In question four, Janet was asked to solve a question that deals with annuity payments, specifically, ordinary annuities. It starts by asking of how much you will make if you add $2,000 every year and it is compounded by 10% interest every year. These, for the most part, are future value problems. The first one comes out to be a future value of $12,210.20, which does not satisfy the need for $20,000. The next part asks what the value would be if the interest was compounded semiannually. You have to do an equation in order to find out what the effective annual interest rate. It was called the Five Year Plan because they hoped to achieve everything they set up in five years; once the goals were achieved they would discuss and set up the next Five Year Plan. In the first Five Year Plan, it focused on agriculture. Before the plan, the farmers and the workers essentially worked on their own farms that were run by their families, allowing them to have the freedom to do as they pleased, but with Socialism on the brink everything changed. Socialism includes the government in charge of everything, meaning that collective farming was the new thing. With that farmers and the peasants were taken away from the farm and then everyone was combined into what they called a collective farm. This meant that everyone on that farm had to work together to get the outcome that they wanted. People didn t have the choice of having their farm put into a collective farm. In the case if anyone didn t like the idea or spoke out against the actions they would be shipped to Siberia where they would work for hard labor or they could be shipped to concentration camps. The idea of dekulakization happened to the kulaks, meaning that if there were villages that had too many peasants would be liquidated. It was the same concept as collective farming. A key thing with the Kulaks was that a Rich peasant was a bad peasant. Stalin s reasoning behind the planned economy and the use of collective farming would make the Union a better place. With that the government would be in control of everything. That was supposed to make the Union more efficient and effective, allowing everyone to have access to and produce more food in order to feed the growing number of people and

So this, one could say, is more than just cause to say exploit Michelangelo and his artwork, the semi sacrifice of one man s happiness for a huge influence throughout the world and even throughout time! After considering this side of the pendulum we can look at the wrongdoing of Julius II through the eyes of Michelangelo. Michelangelo, an unmarried man, was very involved in his art, both personally and making a living doing commissioned works. As earlier stated painting was not his favorite medium and to ask him to do such an important project such as the chapel would be putting him on the spot. But to do so from a position of ultimate authority and power would be a life decision! Michelangelo Buonarroti did not want to disgrace his country and faith by refusing the commission, however it would be such a huge compromise to accept it. Refusing the commission would indeed do just that, disgrace his both his country and his faith, at that time in Roman culture

Although flawlessness has never been achieved, men have certainly tried to keep the voting system as efficient as possible, with the least possible amounts of votes being lost or mis counted. In either case, they say, a manual recount would be meaningless if it was based on corrupted electronic data.5 A paper trail would be used to recount the votes if it were suspected that the machine was not giving an accurate count of the votes. Most machines cannot print a so called voter verified paper trail, so when a politician demands a recount, most DREs will simply spit out the same set of disputed numbers again and again. 6 Not only does this make it impossible to have effective recounts that could help in the event of a serious computing error, it also puts vote tampering into the spotlight. The spirit of revolution remains, and in time the proletariat will rise again, continuing to trust in the process. European notions of modernity transformed Egypt into a society where the female peasantry became the most oppressed class. These colonial influences produced an economy, which satisfied the needs of Europe and frustrated the needs of the Egyptian peasantry. Prior to the early 1820s, the Egyptian peasantry practiced a subsistence economy, which allowed the peasant family to feed and maintain itself. The families were left relatively autonomous as state officials had little interest in this class with the exception of the payment of taxes. Under this system, women in the Egyptian peasantry were able to lead a somewhat egalitarian existence. Although tasks were divided according to gender, hours of labor were relatively equal. • 30. Summary Of Priam In The Book Two Of The Aeneid The death scene of Priam at the hands of Pyrrhus in book two of the Aeneid is, in my opinion, hands down the piГЁce de rГ©sistance of the epic. This potent excerpt shines in providing the reader with not only intense visual imagery, but also (when translating from the latin at least) opportunities to interpret the text to one s desire (to an extent, of course). Perhaps the most significant of these instances of interpretation is in lines 2.515 516, and that of course is the describing of Hecuba and her daughters as columbae head longing in a gloomy storm. Columba is a 1st Declension, feminine noun which WhitakersWords.com defines as both pigeon and dove, so if columba can be translated as either bird, which is the correct one? Well Vergil allows his genius to be noticed because he leaves that to the reader. The reader is not only allowed to, but partially expected by Vergil to not only focus on the certain qualities of the two birds in order to decide which bird best suits Hecuba and company, but to also determine certain qualities of Hecuba and her daughters that one of the two birds would best represent. Two simple lines in an epic that is just shy of 10,000 total lines (all impressively formatted into dactylic hexameterfor the entirety of the text, I might add) induce the reader into a circuitous train of thought that is only halted when the reader decides what they want the text to mean, not whatever Vergil would have wanted. For instance, pigeons nowadays are often referred to as flying rats which imposes quite the negative connotation towards pigeons, denouncing them as scavenging, pestering, and downright disgusting. Doves on the other hand, are generally thought to be peaceful, calm, and elegant animals that can even be quite beautiful to some. Just look at each bird s appetite; doves shimmy around the ground searching for small seeds, and occasionally an insect or two to eat if need be, while pigeons can be seen scavenging for anything left behind or tossed into a trash heap by humans, a particularly vile lifestyle for a particularly vile animal. This thought process leads most readers to interpret columbae as doves rather than pigeons since Hecuba is simply taking shelter from the chaos around

He took part throughout the Mexican Revolution, World War One, and dominating the stage throughout World War Two. Inpatient and young, he eventually went on his first deployment as a lieutenant to take part in the battle of San Miguelito. It was in Mexico that Patton met General John Joseph Pershing, where it is believed that he based a lot of his military leadership styles on the way Pershing led his troops (Pershing, Wikipedia, 2017). Through imitating Pershing, George had some of the most courageous leadership styles known widely throughout, where many praised his bravery, yet several found him foolish. Following the battle of San Miguelito, Patton was promoted to Captain and appointed by General Pershing to the head of the new AEF Tank Corps. (Pershing, Wikipedia, 2017). It was throughout the process of developing the AEF Tank Corps. that I feel Patton demonstrated his most profound adaptive leadership trait, drive. George Patton was driven in anything and everything he did for the AEF Tank Corps. He implemented his own ideas, tactics, design, uniform, and procedures in a way that revolutionized war (PATTON 360, 2015). The United Stateshad never had an armor
  • 35. Epidamnus Mistaken Identity In a play about mistaken identity, the characters are the main focus. The characters of the Menaechmus twins are at the core of the story. They are introduced as having very different personality traits despite their identical appearances; Menaechmus of Epidamnus is described as normally gay, an inveterate jokester, and always out for a good time (Act I), while Menaechmus of Syracuse is shrewd, calculation, and cynical (Act II). In this way, the twins serve as foils for each other. However, on this particular day, due to his irritating wife, the twin from Epidamnus is in a fowl mood, matching him to his brother s mood, which the people of Epidamnus experienced during their encounters on that day. It is also Menaechmus of Epidamnus joking manner that allows for the mistake the occur. When the twin from Syracuse adamantly states that he has never stepped foot in Epidamnus before and is not familiar with anyone or what they say he has done, they believe it to just be good old Menaechmus playing a joke on them, as he always does. The twins also appear to share some of each other s traits. Though Menaechmus of Epidamnus is said... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of his insistence that the citizens of Epidamnus are all crooks and that a plot was conspired to take advantage as soon as they arrived off the ship, Menaechmus of Syracuse accepts this explanation as to why everyone knows his name and speaks of a life he is supposedly living with them. This allows for the action of the play to continue, instead of Menaechmus of Syracuse coming to the early conclusion that the people in the town must know of someone who looks identical to him and shares his name, i.e. his long lost twin whom he is in Epidamnus searching for and was talking about only minutes earlier. It is also Messanio who finally puts it all together, realizing the case of mistaken identity that has occurred and reunites the Menaechmus

He stressed five main points about the bildungsroman novels: (1) the idea of Bildung, or formation, cultivation, education, shaping of a single main character, normally of a young man; (2) individualism, especially the emphasis on the uniqueness of the protagonist and the primacy of his private life and thoughts, although these are at the same time representative of an age and culture; (3) the biographical element, usually supplied from the author s own life in what Dilthey calls the conscious and artistic presentation of what is typically human through the depiction of a particular individual life ; (4) the

  • 38. Counseling Skills Essay The three concepts I have chosen to identify for this book report assignment are, basic empathy, motivation, and reframing. I feel that those concepts are important for counsellors to have as skils. The first concept i will be discussing is empthy, which is discussed in Chapter six (Shebib, 2003). Empathy is the ability to correctly interpret another person s feelings to show them you understand. So, empathy is not something we have, but something we do. Empathy is a skill and an attitude and not a feeling (sympathy is a feeling). It is about being able and willing to understand another person from their own point of view, without your own thoughts, feelings, opinions and judgements getting in the way of this understanding. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CLIENT: Yeah very frustrated and mad that she s hiding from me. COUNSELLOR: It sounds like you would like this frienship to work out. (In triad quote, 2006) As you can see from this example, the counsellor has summarized expressed feelings from the client. The second concept I will be discussing is motivation, which is one of the five empowering activities discussed in chapter seven (Shebib, 2003). Motivation is an important concept when it comes to counselling because it can lead into change for the client. A counsellor is key for inhibiting change in a client, but most importantly the client has to involve their commitment in the change they would like to see. According to Shebib (1993) Change is stressful because it requires giving up established patterns of behaviour or thinking, and clients will differ in the extent to which they have the skill or energy to take the associated risks (p.196). Also, there are many problems associated with movitating clients such as: lazy clients, clients in denial, involuntary, ambivalent, energized, and burnt out clients. Counsellors need to be aware of those problems because counsellors need to apply a variety of skills to help the different types of problem clients when the time arises. An example of how I, the helper, used motivation within a session is shown below. My client at the time of this session would be considered a engergized client because the client is already motivated

Liza Featherstone takes up the subject of teen magazines. Therefore, national governments are obliged to do both with more attention to the first aspect. Everybody is responsible for a body and soul of a soldier returned back home from a warhis family, friends, neighbors, strangers, and his country in whole. This is the best way to thank him for a peaceful future achieved due to his destroyed life. So he is using information technology to implement the program and to improve the process of inventory restocking.
