Nostalgia is defined as a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former
time in one s life, to one s home or homeland, or to one s family and friends; a
sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time. (Dictionary.com)
Nostalgia is often caused by something prompting the individual of an event or detail
from their past. In theory, nostalgia is a wonderful experience of reminiscing on
memories in the past, but every so often nostalgia can have negative effects on one s
mindset. The result of these feelings and emotions can range through many different
things, from happiness, to sorrow, to anger. In The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Mohsin
Hamid suggests that in difficult times in people s lives, nostalgia happens, and can
evoke different emotions in people.

begins to realize that the vagina is similar to the human heart in many ways, and this
helps her come to grips with her previous insecurities. The central image was when
one of the women recounts how a sexual encounter with a man she had relations
with helped her find her confidence and self love for herself and her vagina. The

In today s society, ninjas have evolved into turtles or movie extras. Both are very
poor representations of what a ninja truly was in Japan in the ages past. Ninjas were
not reptiles or someone to trifle with either. These highly trained assassins have a
back story shrouded in mystery, warlords squabbling to gain their favor, training and
operations of a dark nature.
The well known black garbed assassins, known as ninjas, are commonly considered
to be Japanese in origin. Though ninjas themselves are from Japan, their philosophy

Pa s health finally started to worry me. On one day, Pa would seem better and he

Although the title of this book strikes the reader as unusual it begins to make
complete sense once it is read. This book is a series of short essays by Darnton.
The second section, which is titled Workers Revolt: The great Cat Massacre of the
Rue Saint SГ©rverin brings the reader directly into the views of the working class
during the 1700s in France. This style of writing allows situations to be viewed
through the lens of those who are experiencing it, making for a more interesting
read. The context of this portion of the book truly gives an in depth account of the
emotions and conditions that peasants would meet with while being treated as
inferior to even the animals by the masters. It can be said that Darnton included this
portion of the book to show the customs of the French during this time as well as to
