between genders. This provides the audience an idea about what topic she is going to
debate. However, after stating her thesis and backing it with references, she detracts
from her main argument. Firstly, she includes the insights of her colleagues. These
are meant to provide leverage to her argument yet they distract the audience from the
main idea and Tannen does not incorporate the information into her own ideas thus

candle at both ends. One could only achieve full representations at the expense of
