Montana Army Aviation started in the early 1950 s with only a handful of pilots and mechanics
that returned to Montana from active service that still wanted to serve their country from their
home state with the Montana Army National Guard. Equipped with only a few OH 23 Raven
helicopters and a small hangar, the Montana Army National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility
(AASF) was born. The units assigned at that time only had limited capabilities but it soon grew into
an outstanding organization full of professional Soldiers willing to give their time to make sure the
state and country had operational aircraft ready for any mission assigned for national or state
emergencies.
Montana was reorganized into an Attack Helicopter Battalion (AHB) in 1988 with AH 1S Cobras,
UH 1 Iroquois and OH 58 Kiowa Scouts. With the new Battalion, D Company was formed
comprised of the Maintenance Platoon, Back Shops Platoon, Quality Control Section, Technical
Supply Section and Production Control Section. Maintenance efforts of D Company were able to
support the aircraft for the multiple Gunnery Ranges that they participated in. Some of the ranges
that they occupied was in Yakima, WA, Hill AFB, UT and the local ranges at Limestone Hills near
Townsend, MT.
Montana was reorganized again due to the loss of the Attack

The Experience of Media Violence for Children
Media Violence By the time a child reaches the age of one, they see about 200,000 acts of
violence on television. (Nakaya, 3). The Media has been becoming more and more violent over the
years. A poll in an issue of Times Magazine, from 2005, showed that 66 percent of Americans think
that there is an abundant amount of graphic acts of violenceon televisions (Nakaya, 18). People are
exposed to thousands of acts of violence through video games, television, and movies. Many
studies show that media violence increases violent behavior in in humans. Studies show, violent
video games, and graphic television have physiological effects on children. The government has
very few regulations on media violence. Some people believe the government shouldn t limit
content because others might be insulted by its material. Even though the government shouldn t
censor the media, Media violence is becoming a serious issue because it is becoming more
violent, it makes people behave violently, and it has little regulations. The regularity and asperity
of media violence has dramatically increased over the years. Media violence is such a broad
topic, so we cannot simple get rid of it. People are exposed violent acts in the media everyday
between video games, movies, and television. The Federal Communications Commission stipulates,
By the time most children begin the third grade, they will have spent the equivalent of three school
years in front of a television set. The Media has such a large

The 1940 Statement Of Academic Freedom And Tenure
For many in higher education tenure would be the brass ring; a fitting end to a career of service,
education, and research. But what is tenure? Defined in the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom
and Tenure, tenure is first the freedom of teaching, research, and extramural activities, secondly, it
is a sufficient degree of economic security to make the profession attractive to men and women of
ability (American Association of UniversityProfessors, 1970). The process of defining tenurewas a
collaborative effort of faculty, administrators, and educational committees. Originally drawn up in
1915 as the Declaration of Academics, the statement was in place until 1940 when a meeting of the
American Association of University Professors(AAUP) and the Association of American Colleges
agreed on a restatement to be known as the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure
(American Association of University Professors, 1970). Additional changes were made to the
document in 1970, but they retained the modified the name designated in 1940. Since tenure
encompasses the freedom of teaching; an essential component to tenure is academic freedom. The
1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure (1970) states that considers academic freedom as:
Teachers are entitled to full freedom in research and in the publication of the results, subject to the
adequate performance of their other academic duties; but research for pecuniary return should be

In 2008, women from all around the world began to become fanatics of the well known book
Twilight and disputing with their fellow Twi hard fans if they should be on team Jacob or team

even if your family does not agree with you. Which is emphasized when it is mentioned that
John and Sam had a falling out due to the fact that Sam wanted to become a lawyer instead of

A New Form of Expansion Essay
A New Form of Expansion
Before the start of the Spanish American War of the late nineteenth century and World War I in the
early twentieth century, the United States had encouraged expansion as being a way of gaining
power. For example, the Frontier thesis, conveyed that it is through the expansion of new lands that
humanity would continue to progress. Also the United States portrayed its impatience to expand
through Manifest Destiny: the desire to expand from sea to sea with the goal to own and cultivate
as much land as possible. However, as the late nineteenth and early twentieth century appeared,
America experienced a change. It grew from an ambitious, power seeking country, to the ... Show

Also, in John Hay s First and Second Open Door Notes, he promotes the United States necessity
for equal trade with China, which was the U.S main attempt to solve foreign issues, peacefully.
Once more, through Senator Albert J. Beveridge s Speech to 56th Congress, he claims that the
Pacific is our ocean….And the Pacific is the ocean of the commerce of the future…The
power that rules the Pacific, therefore, is the power that rules the world (Doc E). Throughout this
time, the theory of the United States dream of Manifest Destiny and its sole desire of expansion
supports the idea that the purpose of expansionism, is for foreign dominance thus, the more land
you have, the more power you control.
The United States interfered with foreign affairs whenever necessary to keep order. As shown
through the Annual Message to Congress, Theodore Roosevelt conveys that if it (a nation) keeps
order and pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States (Doc F). The Platt
Amendment of 1901 specified the conditions under which the U.S could intervene in Cuba s
internal affairs; stating that Cuba could not make a treaty with another nation that might impair its
independence. Secondly, it was through the approval of the 1898 Treaty of Paris, that the Spanish

Art Talk Concert Report
I attended an Art Talk platform event, led by an artist driven nonprofit organization called New
Orleans Airlift . The interpretation was done by Brenda Prudhom who is nationally certified with
her NIC, and the other interpreter was a student intern. Upon arriving to the event, I realized the
interpreter wasn t interpreting until the event officially started. So when the presenters were
walking around the front talking about when the event will start, she was not interpreting any of
that. She informed me, this is because those conversations were private and the event also had not
begun yet. Also, there was only one Deaf person at the event, and they didn t show up until about
half way through. Once the presentation officially began, the intern began interpreting first. At the

Also, Brenda did a fantastic job at providing support to the intern. Whenever she provided him
with support, it was not distracting at all, it was barely noticeable. However, I could not see
what was exactly being provided when Brenda was signing, because I was sitting directly behind
her. So, I was unable to see her hands. After the intern interpreted for about 10 or 15 minutes,
Brenda switched with him and she began to interpret. I noticed Brenda kept good eye contact
with the audience as a whole, while she was signing her eyes were not looking all over the place.
However, once the Deaf individual entered late, she completely focused her attention onto him,
which I think was a great thing to do. At one point during the presentation, the presenter was
speaking about transgender individuals and I noticed that Brenda used the old sign for
transgender (X hand shape on cheek, twisting motion). I have been told that some people may
take offense to that old sign now, and what is now acceptable is to sign the new sign (comes from
BEAUTIFUL, on the inside). When I asked her about this, she let me know that a lot of deaf
people still sign the old

Compare And Contrast Anime And Anime
In recent years, animated programs have dominated the world of film and TV in both America and
Japan. These programs, known as cartoons and anime, are some of the most popular forms of
entertainment today. Anime and cartoon shows, such as One Piece and Family Guy, have been
running for decades and are very well known among society. Animated films such as Disney s The
Lion King and Studio Ghibli s Spirited Away have also thrived and even surpassed animated
television shows in some instances. Both American and Japanese animationindustries have
flourished, and their cartoons and animes continue to grow in popularity. However, similarities and
differences between the two soon arise when compared closely; these observations are often what
lead fans to prefer one style over the other as well as shape pop culture. Animeand cartoons had
very similar origins. Gertie the Dinosaur from 1914 is considered the first American cartoon.
Japan s first anime is not as clear, but many believe it to be 1917 s An Obtuse Sword. Both of
these animated features were short, silent, and black and white. Their rise in popularity and
introduction of the style of animation seen in the modern world did not begin until their Golden
Age of animation. In the US, the Golden Age was from the 1920 s to 1960 s; this was when Walt
Disney created his own animation studio and began to put out longer cartoons with sound and
color. Snow White from the late 30 s was Disney s first big feature film hit. In the

Use Of Quantitative Trade Models On Aggregate Bilateral...
This paper builds on the previous literature which uses quantitative trade models to determine the
effects of trade barriers on aggregate bilateral trade flows, income, and welfare, including Eaton
and Kortum (2002); Anderson and van Wincoop (2003); Alvarez and Lucas (2007); and Helpman
et al. (2008) and more recent papers that address discrepancies between more traditional quantitative
trademodels and the data. 3 The main contribution of my paper to this literature is that it
demonstrates how the workhorse class of quantitative trade models can be generalized to account
for the aggregate effects of non trivial patterns of product level comparative advantage. It does so in
a way that maintains, to a large extent, the tractability and parsimony of this class of models while
utilizing the wealth of information contained in product level trade data, which is available for
most of the world s countries. It also provides succinct and intuitive expressions relating the gains
from trade to countries patterns of product level comparative advantage, allowing for a
straightforward decomposition of the gains from trade into across product and within product
components.
This paper is also related to Arkolakis et al. (2012) in that both papers address important features
shared among the literature s workhorse class of quantitative trade models, but we make very
distinct points. Arkolakis et al. (2012) demonstrate that, in this class of models, the welfare gains
from trade depend only

Open Source Security and The KerchoffВґs Principle
Introduction This lecture was given by Dr. David Mirza Ahmad one of chief mentors of
Subgraph, which is a open source security start up based out in Montreal. The talk was based on
Kerchoff s principle which states the security of any cryptographic system does not rest in its
secrecy; it must be able to fall into the enemy s hand without inconvenience [1]. The kerchoff s
principle underlines the fact that free softwareshould be having reasonably good security. This fact
is well understood by the world of cryptography because cryptography is a black box where you
never know what is happening inside it. There are lot of security research communities across the
globe, many are informal and low budget though. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The community was defiantly open and the Symantec acquisition provoked strong protective
reactions.
Both hackers and security researchers have always shared their research enthusiastically. Someone
would be coming with a new class of attack, then the exploits begin to appear and the cycle
continues.
Another notable example was the coming of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in the mid late
1990 s. IDS were in high gear selling their IDS by publicising to buy this box and never fear the
hackers again. IDS are designed to detect the various attack signatures in the real world. But their
happiness was short livГ when Tom Ptacek and Tim Newsham published a paper that broke IDS.
Open Source and Security The researchers also write tools, often free software like BackTrack,
Helix. The world owes so much to the open source innovation like grassroots. There were several
others used for vulnerability assessment like ISS(which was eventually acquired by IBM) and
SATAN released in 1995 that did perform a variety of checks although it was controversial during
its time.

Optimization Technique For Feature Selection And...
Optimization Technique for Feature Selection and Classification Using Support Vector Machine
Abstract Classification problems often have a large number of features in the data sets, but only
some of them are useful for classification. Data Mining Performance gets reduced by Irrelevant and
redundant features. Feature selection aims to choose a small number of relevant features to achieve
similar or even better classification performance than using all features. It has two main objectives
are maximizing the classification performance and minimizing the number of features. Moreover,
the existing feature selection algorithms treat the task as a single objective problem. Selecting
attribute is done by the combination of attribute evaluator and search method using WEKA
Machine Learning Tool. We compare SVM classification algorithm to automatically classify the
data using selected features with different standard dataset.

Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey And Ode To...
omposed upon Westminster Bridge , Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey , and
Ode to the West Wind . These selections of poems are directly focused on the writers views and
passions associated to nature. The poems themselves are described with apostrophe which
addresses many of their abstract ideas regarding the nature around them and also described with
rich words such as, pastoral, sublime, sylvan, and sprightly.
I also learned that Romanticists had a fondness for writing and emphasizing the feelings of
living things, particularly animals. In the poem To a Mouse , the author expresses deep care
and concern for a mouse who is left for dead, whose house is destroyed, and left to starve. The
speaker responds to this by rescuing, feeding, and providing shelter for the poor mouse. This
alone shows great care for an animal, even though it s usually considered a pest among others.
Another example of fascination of an animal is in the poem The Tyger , where our speaker
describes in wonder and majesty a fierce and frightening tiger. He presents it in the sense of seeing
this animal as nearly god like by wondering how it came with such balanced form and such
herculean strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Romantics wrote about different things (art, animals, nature, adventure, dreams, etc.) and
presented these ideas in several different ways and tones. A great example of this was the use of
Scottish dialect transferred into the story of To a Mouse , which allowed for the speaker to have
more charm and character. Also, symbolism began to be used more often in poems in unique ways
that would form a hauntingly beautiful aura to the world of Romantic poetry. Lastly and in
conclusion, the most amazing thing about Romanticism is that all of the Romantic poems are
widely different, but they all have a familiar and classic sound and feeling associated with

The European Influence On Indigenous Hawaiian Culture
After the European influence upon indigenous Hawaiian culture, Hawaiians radically reinterpreted
and transformed their culture... part of this transformation was the abandonment of the kapu system
in 1819. The meaning of the organization of architecture no longer reflects upon ideology of the
Hawaiians, but the adaptation of more technological advanced living space. As a result, many
temples were dismantled or destroyed, leaving only he foundation stones (Ladegoged, #).
John Young and Isaac Davis built the first Western style building, Kailua Kona, in Hawaiiin 1795.
Afterwards, three more brick palaces were constructed in Lahaina. These designs were very much
like the Lahaina prison shown in previous pages. Even though Western brick houses slowly
became predominant, traditional grass hale were still prevalent, though adobe and coral block
houses were also being built near Honolulu harbor ( Hawaii History ).
Another significant step towards a new era for Hawaiian architecture was Mr Isaac Davies house.
The interior of the house was similar to aboriginal Hawaiian house clusters; however, the exterior

Annotation Of The Black Cat
The visual presentation that I chose to do is the The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe. It is a
combination of a two dimensional and three dimensional artwork. Different types of materials were
used such as wood, Styrofoam, cardboards, pom poms, etc. to enhance the visual presentation of the
story. Since the black catis the major character in the story, I chose the color black, white, gray as
the majority colors of the presentation. These colors really blend well with the black cat. I also think
that the story involves tragedy, murder, hate, and the color black represent those. There are also
silver, brown, red, and different colors used for the alcohol bottles. The base for the artwork is a 12
x26 x2 Styrofoam covered with gray color... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The black cat is a potent symbol of the human conscience. In the middle section of the visual
presentation is a black cat with a mirror like eye and a mirror like background. These materials
were used to show how the cat becomes sort of a mirror to the narrator to see how he
transformed himself into a totally different person and allowed him to see the changes that
happened to him. I also used black pom poms to create a real feel (texture wise) to the cat. In the
story, the narrator proclaims his purpose for penning is to clear his conscience. He is aware of
his human condition and his pain filled being. He even claims that he succumbs to the spirit of
perverseness within him, as if it were a natural course. After his actions of violence in maiming
and murdering the black cat, he becomes regretful for what he had done, and in some attempt at
redemption seeks out another cat as a replacement. This is exactly what leads him to hate the
new black cat so much. It is as if it was resurrected, the missing eye is an exact replica of his first
crime and the new white gallows like patch is a mark of his evil act. It makes him more self
conscious of himself and to all that he had done. The more the cat likes him, the more he hates it.
Even as he wakes up from the nightmares, he discovers the cat as a weight upon his heart. He
views the cat as the source of all his wretchedness while all it had done was made him self

Essay on Editha by William Dean Howells
Editha by William Dean Howells
The story Editha by William Dean Howells and the poem Reconciliation by Walt Whitman are
part of a true national literature. They are both told in a way that only we as Americans could
ever understand. They speak of war in all of its glory, and they speak of all of the pain left
behind. Editha is a story about a woman who loves her country so much that she would be
willing to give up anyone who does not feel as she does. Her fiancГ© George was not
enthusiastic about the war. To George the war was about senseless bloodshed, but to Editha it was
about taking pride in a country that she loved. She told George, I call it a sacred war. A war for

Editha was a symbol of what America stood for and what America meant to so many people who
could only dream of having the opportunity to live here. George was a symbol of all the young
men who fought for this country to make it what it is today. They fought for a country they
believed in. They fought for us, and for our freedom. This story shows the greatness on which this
country was founded. Nobody except Americans could understand the dedication to a country that
today, stands strong because of the love that the people felt for the land they lived on. Howells
tried to show the depth of that love through Editha and George, which makes this a part of true
national literature. Reconciliation is a poem that was meant to open the eyes of the reader to
the effects the war had after it was over. It is written through the eyes of a dead soldier who has
seen what the war has done. This soldier has the blood of many men on his hands and will
always remember the death. Where Editha showed the significance of war in relation to a person
s love of their country, Reconciliation tells in a few strong lines, the somber mood of a country
that has lost many lives. Whitman writes, For my enemy is dead, a man divine as myself is dead
(Whitman 129). It is not said what side this divine man fought for but it shows that no matter what

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Film Thank You For Smoking
Thank you for Smoking
Introduction
The film Thank you for Smoking is a dark comedy where the primary protagonist, Nick Naylor is
a lobbyist. He talks for the cigarette industry and will not extra the American Authorities or even
the press. At the in advance, the film prominently tackles all these topics but deep down it also
portrays the partnership between a dad and a son.
Rhetorical and arguments analysis
In a single conversation between a father and a son, Naylor coaches his son Joey by telling him
the beauty of argument: if you argue correctly, you re never wrong . This depicts a framework of
Nick s personality and probably explains the reason why as to the reasons he will not lose quarrels.
It is because he reframes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think that we are in need of freedom . This shows the fallacy of red herring. In this type of
rhetorical strategy, the emphasis is shifted from the primary concern for an unrelated or tangential
concern to earn a disagreement.
In another debate Naylor uses the red herring fallacy. That is explicated when he s asked to
testify before the senatorial committee. He says Gentlemen, it s called education ... It s the job
of each mother or father to alert their children of all risks in the world, including smokes, so that
1 day when they grow older they can decide for themselves. Here again, Nick waves from the
central subject of cigarettes compared to that of parental responsibility, freedom and education. He
s well aware that People in america love their freedom and therefore takes on with these words to
regulate their feelings.
Naylor also uses the faulty analogy fallacy in the senatorial committee conference. He compares the
Conglomerated Cigarette s cigarette financing with the financing for the senate s marketing
campaign contributions. The advertisement hominem fallacy is utilized by Naylor when he
suggests placing indicators on certain products like Vermont cheddarcheese, aeroplanes and cars.
The red herring fallacy is again used when Naylor highlights the unwanted effects of Vermont
cheddar cheese on increasing cholesterol levels. Actually, Senator Lothridge must interrupt to

began when King Charles I dissolved Parliament in 1625 because they would not give him the
money he demanded to fund his war against Spain. Parliament, who was lead by John Pym, felt that
the King was showing favouritism towards the Roman Catholics, especially since Charles had
recently married the Roman Catholic French Princess. Although Charles recalled Parliament in
1626, he proceeded to dissolve the second Parliament mainly because it attempted to impeach him.

While there were minor reforms to the system, the people, the Church and the Monarchy of
England went back to living their lives relatively the same as they had before the start of the
English Civil War. Violence during the English Civil war effected hundreds of thousands of
English civilians. However, while violence killed thousands of people...the impact of the war as
a war was surprisingly limited. Casualties during the war were high: 190 000 people died in
England and 868 000, or 11.6% of the population, perished within the British Isles. This number
was only a third of the amount of people who died in England during the great plague of 1570
1670. King Charles II was content with putting things aside and starting over again, and it
seemed like the people of England were too. Although women and children lost husbands and
fathers, their loses were quickly replaced by new husbands or relatives to help out. By the end of
the war, most people simply wanted to get on with their lives since there was nothing that they
could about the people they lost during the war. Many people forgot their differences and were
found even marrying across the barriers which were created during the war. Damaged property was
quickly repaired since it created jobs for civilians looking for work. Buildings were destroyed, but
since the war was not as explosive

Tattoos Have Been Popular Throughout Time All Over The...
Tattoos have been popular throughout time all over the world. Yet, rumors have it that tattoos are a
modern day trend that originated in prison. Tattooing actually dates back to five thousand years
ago. They have not just become some new pop culture fad. Prehistoric clans, ancient Egyptians,
Native Americans, sailors, circus people, royalty, celebrities, and plenty of young adults today
have all participated in some form of body art. Tattooing has played a significant role in
mythologies and customs in ancient cultures. In American, tattoos were introduced by sailors
returning from expeditions in Europe during the late seventeen hundreds and the early eighteen
hundreds. Tattoos became trendy in America through said sailors and bikers, which showed they
had a look of respect and dignity within their groups.
The earliest recording of tattoos was found on the frozen remains of an ancestor to Northern
Europeans from around Thirty Five Thousand B.C to about Two Thousand Three Hundred B.C.
The remains had small markings on it s lower back, ankles, and one of it s feet, made by rubbing
charcoal into cuts. A series of x rays revealed a joint disease where each of the tattoos were
located, which has led researchers to believe that the early Europeans used this as a medical
treatment to reduce pain. The Egyptian figures from around the time Two Thousand B.C show
female dancers displayed with dot and dash tattoos on their bodies to represent Bes, also known as

Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park
Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park The area of Yellowstone National Park has
a long history of inhabitants, even before it became the nation s first national park. In the area
now known as Yellowstone National Park, wolves were once very prominent. However due to
westward expansion in the 1800s, agriculture began to increase. This led to the wolves that once
thrived in this area to being practically completely removed. The increase in agriculture in this
region led to a lot of the wolves prey becoming reduced or eliminated. Since the wolves had a
decrease in prey, the wolves began to prey on domestic animals, which then resulted in humans
eliminating the wolves almost completely. By the 1930s the wolf was eliminated from the area.
This was before people had an understanding of how ecosystems work and the interrelation of
species. Now that the wolves were gone, elk then became overpopulated. A lot of the vegetation
began to disappear as well due to the overgrazing of the elk. However after about a 70 year
absence, in 1995 the wolves were carefully brought back to Yellowstone. When they brought the
wolves back to the park, there was not just an effect on one species or one area but rather they
affected the entire ecosystem of the area. I will discuss their effects on areas such elk, beaver
colonies, scavengers, aspen trees, willow trees and cottonwood trees. Once the wolves were
brought back into Yellowstone, immediately the elk population began decreasing.

Camera Lucida By Roland Barthes
After Reading Camera Lucida written by Roland Barthes, I was both confused and interested by
his ideas. Though I did not understand much of the book, I was able to take a couple of his
ideas and really think about how I see photos. In the future, I intend to use these ideas when I
look at photos. One of his ideas that I was able to understand is the way he looks at pictures. The
other one is his second definition of punctum. The first of the two ideas that interested me the
most was the way Barthes looked at photos. He did not say that he liked a photo because it had
his favorite animal or color. He looked deeper into the photo. He looked to see what had caught
his eye the most about a photo he enjoyed. He called the catching of his eye the punctum. Barthes
described the punctum as, ... is that accident which pricks me... (Barthes 27). This prick didn t
always hit him with every photo. Throughout the book, he described certain photos that I thought
were interesting, but he did not enjoy them. An example of a photo that he didn t enjoy was the
photo of the two nuns and three helmeted soldiers, which was photographed by Koen Wessing in
1979. The main reason that it didn t appeal to him was that it didn t have much of a, duality
(Barthes 23) to it. Then there were photos that had caught his eye. An example of an image he
enjoyed and had his prick was a photo of an African American family; photographed by James Van
Der Zee in 1926. The family is not what the punctum was. The

The Book Mountains Beyond Mountains By Tracy Kidder
Many contemporary stories today contain characters that attempt to achieve their goal through
love and compassion. This is a large contrast to the heroes seen in ancient epics who achieve their
goals through violence or their own physical actions. It might be because what audiences today
value most in role models is much different than what audiences who lived centuries ago valued.
Nowadays, people strive to see characters focus on loving and taking care of others to get what
they want. In fact, people can gain this satisfaction through people they can possibly meet in real

Doing the work only half way was just not enough. The author, Tracy Kidder, explains, I think
Farmer taps into a universal anxiety and also into a fundamental place in some troubled
consciences, into what he calls ambivalence, the often unacknowledged uneasiness that some of
the fortunate feel about their place in the world, the thing he once told me he designed his life to
avoid. (295) He emphasizes that motivation, in contrast to pacifism, is the key to achieving his
goal. His journey and personality also parallels the mythos of Carl Jung s archetype of The
Hero, who proves their worth through their own courageous actions and desires to improve the
world. () Paul Farmer s goal as The Hero is to save the world, more specifically Haiti, from the TB
epidemic. However, his extreme enthusiasm and overzealous attempts to achieve a seemingly
unattainable goal is also one of his major flaws.
Dr. Paul Farmer is subject to many obstacles on his journey, including those he inflicts onto

is reaching for an impossible goal resulting in his lack of consciousness of his own needs and

Design A Functional Prototype Of Monitoring System
1.0INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this project is to design a functional prototype of monitoring system for a security
purpose and the system use WIFI as a transmission medium.
Standard monitoring systems such as CCTV use cable to connect from a camera to the monitoring
station. This project is intended to use a wireless transmission to transmit video from camera to
monitoring station. This project also to overcome the power supply issues of main power supply to
operate the device. The uninterruptible power supply is use as a main power supply to prevent
disturbance that may cut off the power supply.
It is important to get high quality video display on monitor and the video can be transmitting to the
monitoring station via WIFI.
1.0PROBLEM STATEMENT
These days, most devices and applications for remote monitoring purposes are suffering with
power supply disruption and limited access of monitoring place. This is due to the place where
device is installed that far from power grid and also due to the limited control room for
monitoring stations. In that case, if there is a sudden failure in power supply, the devices will not
functioning. This remote monitoring system use a solar panel as a power input because this
application base on green technology. Green technology mean that this device not use plug n play
concept but use solar panel as a source to operate the system. The failure of the device to function
will give impact to the devices that has to recorded,

Large Pools Of Large Size Corporation
Presence of big data is a very common phenomenon now days, specially when talking about
medium to large size corporation. Manyika et al., in their article (James Manyika, 2011) defined
the term big data as large pools of data that can be captured, communicated, aggregated, stored,
and analyzed . To clarify they suggested that big data refers to data, whose size makes it
impossible to be processed by the typical software used for database management. Gartner
(Gartner, 2012)defined big data in terms of its characteristics of high volume, high velocity and

Therefore, HR big data management is the discipline of arranging and storing a large volume of HR
data in an organized way so that it can be traced and used in case to serve any business needs. On
the other hand, employee engagement is the long term commitment that an organization expects
from its employees. This engagement is the sound concentration of the employees in the working
environment, attention to individual details and also loyalty towards the company. The experts
claim that engaged employees do more; there fore, to get more out of less, the logic would be that
managers simply need to engage their people. (Welbourne, 2007) Indeed, employee engagement is
the prerequisite of the ultimate success of the entire organization in any given industry.
Although adopting HR big data management has become a recent trend in the corporate world, still
there s a little information found on its effect on the management s employee engagement. This
research will particularly study the impact of big data management in the context of the human

Ritual In The Lottery
The traditions and the ritual of The Lottery in Shirley Jackson s story seems to be just as old as
the town itself, specifically since most of the residents don t recall any of the old rituals, even old
man Warner, who is celebrating his 77th lottery. By the means of this, they are old fashioned in
some ways and fixed in traditions of superstitions that seemed to involve human sacrifice. The
village lottery culminates in a violent murder each year. A bizarre that suggests how dangerous
rituals can be when people follow it blindly. Before we know what kind of lottery they are
conducting, the villagers and their preparations seem harmless. They have selected a relatively
pathetic man to run the lottery, and children run around gathering stones in the town square. In The
Lottery by Shirley Jackson, Psychoanalytic theory helps the reader come to the conclusion that the
townspeople are included in an act of conspiracy. This conclusion is significant because of the
refusal of the townspeople to abandon tradition and question the lottery ritualsuggests the negative
consequences of blindly following evil rituals, the randomness of persecution, and the townspeople
are governed by mob psychology and abandon their reason to act out with great cruelty.

everyone, especially the political beliefs in each country that was involved. In America, the role of
pop culture made an impact on the political consensus of Americans in a constructional manner.
During World War II, the entertainment industry effectively helped produce a national consensus
celebrating the American way of life. Consequently, this patriotism led America s unity to defend
their country against Germany, Italy, Japan, and later the Soviet Union s communism. Pop culture
provided many opportunities of amusement and influenced Americans viewpoint of themselves and

role of music made a psychological fighting force, while the government s propaganda office urged
the music industry to produce freedom songs with lots of flags waving. Right after Pearl Harbor
happened, many writers hurried publishers to publish songs encouraged by the event. But the
citizens didn t want war songs; they wanted songs they can relate to, such as songs about home,

Summary Of Michelle Tusan s Crimes Against Humanity

in understanding humanitarianism after the first World War. Her thesis is that the Armenian
Genocide spearheaded the start of human rights justice as a central issue of the 20th century. One
of the main points of the article is that Britain saw itself as the arbiter of justice. Britain felt as if it
had a responsibility to rectifying human rights abuses as a part of its imperial responsibility. One
of the questions that the article tries to answer is why Britain saw itself as the arbiter of justice. The

A Pair Of Silk Stockings Analysis
Staying strong and committed in family matters is a big deal, especially when there are children
that are being cared for. As we are all affected by human nature, it is hard to do the right thing
while trying to satisfy our desires. There is also the possibility of setting expectations way too
high and then ending up being disappointed in the end. That is what happened to Mrs. Sommers in
A Pair of Silk Stockings. Mrs. Sommers longs for a former life throughout the short story and
ultimately shows how selfish desires can lead to guilt and dissatisfaction.
Mrs. Sommers longs for her former life. When she is given a large amount of money, she finds
herself preoccupied with how she will spend it. She is very excited when she starts thinking of
what she could do with the money and set her expectations high. She is wearied and exhausted
from the life of being a mom and was constantly going through her daily life. But it was during the
still hours of the night when she lay awake revolving plans in her mind that she seemed to see her
way clearly toward a proper and judicious use of the money (Chopin 1). During the evening into
the night, it is sometimes easy for the mind to go in different directions. After a long day, it can
lead to being lazy and letting thoughts go anywhere they want. Mrs. Sommers stresses that it has
been too long since she has gotten anything for herself, since she is constantly providing for her
family (Wagner Martin 1). She had swallowed a light luncheon no! When she came to think of
it, between getting the children fed and the place righted, and preparing herself for the shopping
bout, she had actually forgotten to eat any luncheon at all! (Chopin 1). Her life is very difficult
providing for her family, and she needs something for herself. Little Mrs. Sommers had much
better days. On impulse, however, this long deprived woman spends all the money on herself,
striving for one day at least of self indulgence, one day that might hint of some personal autonomy
in a pinched and narrowed existence (Stein 1). Mrs. Sommers begins to be tempted when she plans
to go out shopping for her kids. By degrees she grew aware that her hand had encountered

Customer Loyalty And Brand Loyalty Essay
The term Brand Loyalty also called as Customer Loyalty has been in the business industry since a
very long time as a model to be used in conducting business. But it wasn t until the mid to late 1900
s that the term was actually given its due importance by making it a vital part of advertising and
marketing. The concept of marketing evolved substantially from being focused on sales of a product
to having Customer satisfaction to be its focal point. Studies further revealed that there was a
positive correlation between customer satisfaction and BrandLoyalty.
The behavior in which a consumer keeps buying a product time and again instead of buying
products from other competitive companies is called Brand Loyalty. Brand loyalty can often be
termed as Customer Loyalty, Brand Commitment, Product Loyalty etc. Brand Loyalty is seen
among consumers when they realize that the product is better than the other products that are
available in the market. This affinity of a consumer towards a particular product is considered to be
brand loyalty. Although, this consumer behavior is not limited to a simple repetition of a purchase,
there is also a psychological reasoning behind the consumers affinity towards behavior.
The concept of Brand loyalty is defined in terms of 6 necessary and sufficient conditions. These
conditions are as follows:
1.Biased (i.e., nonrandom),
2.Behavioral response,
3.Expressed over time,
4.Some decision making unit,
5.With respect to 1 or more

What is the real difference between gods and mortals? The roles and relationships between
mortals and immortals is a constant variable in Greek mythology and in Homer s epic poem The

How Did The Parthenon Contribute To The Pantheon
The Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in Rome have both made significant contributions in
architecture throughout the years from when they were built. They have also been important in
helping us understand the cultures of the Greeks and Romans during the times the two buildings
were constructed.
Right from its name it is fairly obvious that the Parthenon was built as a dedication to Athena, the
patron deity of Athens. The name Parthenon derives from one of Athena s epithets: Athena
Parthenos. Parthenon therefore means house of Parthenos . From the 4th century BCE, the whole
building acquired the name Parthenon. (M. Cartwright, 2012) The Parthenon was both a temple
and a treasury. These two functions tremendously influenced its design. There is evidence that the
temple was built to measure in order to accommodate the chryselephantine statue of Athena by
Pheidius. (M. Cartwright, 2012) The Greeks had a very extensive mythology which they took very
seriously. Due to this, building of the Parthenon was a form of gratitude to Athena for helping them
win the war.
Features of the Parthenon are from both the Doric and Ionic orders. The Parthenon s aesthetic

The Pursuit of Happyness Essay
Social stereotypes and Happiness
The Pursuit of Happyness

Social stereotypes and happiness
The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family
who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie
takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris
Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support
his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in
the story wonders on how to be happy? He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show

In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife,
he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do.
Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend
most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like
Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life
with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott
Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting
has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and
Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to
afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of
their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are
many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together.
Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks
did mom leave because of me? (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great
job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home

Suicide And Suicide
While awareness of suicide and its rippling effect on the community is increasing, much of the
research into the psychological impact of those exposed to death by suicide has been focused on
adults.
Which is why top academic and suicide postvention expert, Karl Andriessen has focused his PhD
project at the University of New South Wales, on investigating the grief, mental health and help
seeking experiences of adolescents who have lost a loved one through suicide.
The study, supported by the Anika Foundation for Adolescent Depression and Suicide, identifies the
adolescents experiences, which may be specific for this age group, to determine whether they
require specific attention from caregivers or health professionals.
It is well known that exposure to suicide and bereavement after suicide is a risk factor for adverse
outcomes related to health, mental health and social functioning, says Mr Andriessen.
We started this research project because most of the research has been focused on the adult
population, not on the younger age groups.
Hence, little is known about their grief and mental experiences, and their needs for support.
The study aims to redress that gap in our knowledge.
The project involved semi structured telephone interviews with 39 adolescents bereaved by suicide
and/or another cause of death.
During the interview participants talked about their relationship with the person they had lost,
feelings and needs at time of death, support sought

Masculinity In The Black Panther Party
The training of armed defense within the Black Panther Party contributed to many of the violent
actions that involved members of the Black Panther Party. Violent discipline, in and out of the BPP,
was heavily enforced by Huey Newton, however the violent atmosphere surrounding the BPP solely
became a place for proving and asserting manhood, and not advancing the revolution that the
founders of the BPP had originally called for. Although many black women attempted to embody
the feminine American womanhood that their white counterparts had, according to Elaine Brown,
chair of the BPP from 1974 1777, many women joined the Black Panther Partyas the image of
strength and confidence projected by male Panther leaders had a powerful, sensual appeal for many
female recruits (Estes, 163). Women within the Black Panther Party were often overlooked as male
leaders aggressively pushed the image of strong, black manhood and militant masculinity to the...

Within the aspect of hegemonic masculinity, brute strength and intimidation are often used to
accomplish tasks. During her leadership, Brown recognized that because she was a woman, she
did not possess these characteristics. In order to assert herself as the Chairman, she encouraged
Huey Newton to appoint Larry Henson as her chief of staff before his exile. Brown writes about
Larry s male chauvinism and how problems would occur but those problems would be outweighed
by his fearlessness, and by the relentlessness and even savagery with which he always carried out
orders. He was capable of hoisting me above the battlefield of men who might resist or challenge
my leadership (Brown, 357). By surrounding herself with strong, intimidating men, Brown
solidified her performance of hegemonic masculinity as she challenged members of the party and

The French Revolution And The Revolution Of The Late 1700 S
The American Revolution, along with many revolutions occurring throughout Central America,
were all directly inspired by the French Revolution of the late 1700 s. Evidence of this can be
seen simply by looking back at world history. History shows that many philosophies of the
American Revolution were actually ideas that either closely parallel or are directly taken from the
writing of various French scholars, such as Voltaireand The Baron De Montesquieu. The very
essence of American politics, Democracy, is in actuality, a French concept as well. Democracy was
originally created following the French Revolutionto replace the Monarchy. Voltaire, who was born
Francois Marie Arouet, was a French revolutionary thinker. (Voltaire, 1) He is

Among many other controversial topics, (Opposition of organized religion and a non literal
interpretation of The Bible, to name a few) (Mastin, 1) Voltaire was a prominent believer in
Freedom of Speech, another constitutional pillar of American society. Voltaire was once credited
with saying I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend your right to say it until
my death. (Brainy, 1) Voltaire was not a very popular figure among feudal France. He often
opposed the Catholic Church along with many other forms of organized religion, (Mastin, 1)
even going so far as to address the Islamic prophet Mohammed as a Fanatic. (Voltaire, 135)
Voltaire eventually passed away in Paris after returning for the first time in over twenty years
after falling ill in late May of 1778. Despite his passing, he was not shown any sympathy from the
Catholic Church. After passing, the church denied the many pleas of his family and friend for a
proper Christian burial. Upon hearing the news of the death of Voltaire, an unnamed father of the
church wrote a letter to a friend that read: Thank God that our Arch nemesis Voltaire has finally
kicked the bucket... However one could sympathize with the Catholic Church for holding such a
vicious grudge, as Voltaire himself was reportedly spiteful to the church even on his deathbed.
Although accounts of Voltaire s dying days are scattered, one claims that when a priest asked him
to renounce Satan mere

An Imaginary Life By David Malouf
An Imaginary Life by David Malouf is a first person point of view story, narrated by Ovid
himself. It is set in 8 BC when Ovid was exiled from Rome to Tomis. His exile forced him to face
many barriers, where language, knowledge and time of the setting were most crucial. Although
Rome and Tomis were fairly close, Tomis was behind in inventions and knowledge. Even thought
Ovid learned a lot about Tomis culture, he faced many barrier from his exile, in which the

Anna Funder s Stasiland
Before this class, I only thought of the Berlin Wall as a week long lesson in my history classes
that was lumped in with World War II and the Cold War. Because it wasn t technically American
history, I was never taught about the Wall in a way other than how it related to America, which
is why I was excited to see this FYOS listed as an option when I registered for classes. History has
always interested me, and this topic was especially intriguing because I knew so little about it.
Coming in to the class, I don t think I had too many expectations; conversely, I honestly didn t know
what to expect having never truly breached the topic before. Despite my lack of expectations, I was
pleasantly surprised by all the information that I learned throughout the class. I especially enjoyed
reading Anna Funder s novel, Stasiland, and getting the human perspective of East Germany. So
many times, I ve been guilty of reducing East Germany into a country comprised of oppressors and
the oppressed without considering the complex emotions and rationale of the actual human beings
that inhabited the nation; the novel helped to reshape my beliefs. Although I still firmly believe
that the East German government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

intriguing. The idea of ostalgie that the movie portrayed was probably my favorite thing to learn
about people feeling nostalgic for the country and products and culture of their childhood is so
logical, but it is something I never thought about (obviously I didn t think about a lot of things,

Betrayal In Othello Research Paper
By definition, betrayal is the act of deliberate dishonesty and disloyalty (vocabulary.com). It is a
common concept in which can destroy people and their relationships. Throughout William
Shakespeare s play Othello, acts of betrayal are committed among characters when Iago betrays
Othello, Othello betrays Desdemona, and finally, when Othellobetrays himself. Revenge plays a
major role as to why Shakespeare includes betrayal to form conflicts and help advance the
tragically dramatic plot. To begin, the main characters, Iagoand Othello, introduce this act of
betrayal by creating conflicts due to jealousy. Originally, the plan for revenge began when Iago
dreamed and expected to be the general Othello s lieutenant; however, Othello chose Cassio....

stubborn Othello considered her as a whore and a liar [who has] gone to burning hell (85).
Shakespeare includes this betrayal because it precisely displays an example where passion can
be broken through the influence of strongly effective characters like honest Iago (83). This
betrayal leads to one of the dominant treasons in the work as a whole: Othello abandoning
himself. Lastly, Othello betrays himself when he realizes how he relied on honest (51) Iago,

Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation
Introduction
The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality.
Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions.
Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a
graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this
group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling
points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through
hands on experimentation.
Materials
The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data collection
interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula,
graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,)
400.00ml of distilled water (H2O)
Procedure
The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring
stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced
directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to
measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non control tests, glucose and
table salt were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto
the hotplate, 1.61 grams of

The Controversial Debate Of Human Cloning
Human cloning has been a very controversial topic for many years now. The term human cloning
includes numerous methods that are used to produce genetically identical copies of humans. The
copied material, which has the same genetic makeup as the original, is referred to as a human clone
(National Human Genome Research Institute). Lost in the midst of all the fuss about cloningis the
fact that cloning is nothing new: it s rich scientific history spans more than 100 years (Genetic
Science Learning Centre). The first experiments in cloning date back to 1885, when German
biologist Hans Driesch split two cellsea urchin embryos. Once separated, each cell grew into two
individual sea urchins. This demonstrated that each cell in the early... Show more content on

Spemann then loosened the hair on one of the sixteen nuclei, allowing it to slip into the separated
cytoplasm (Wilmut Highfield 66). As cell division took its course, Spemann tightened the hair loop
again and broke the embryos apart. This resulted in twin salamanders. Spemann created the first in
vitro animal clone produced by nuclear manipulation (Genetic Science Learning Centre). During
that time period, it was surprise that any of the previous experiments gave positive results. Despite
their low success rates, the experiments however did demonstrate that the nucleus retained to its
full complement of genetic information (Wilmut Highfield 68) which inspired later scientists to
explore mammalian cloning. In 1967, Derek Bromhall decided to tackle the untouched region of
mammalian cloning. In order to attempt nuclear transfer for mammalian embryos, Bromhall
developed the microsurgical equipment and techniques that were required. By using a glass pipette,
Bromhall transferred the nucleus from a rabbit embryo cell into a rabbit egg without a nucleus. He
concluded his experiment as a success when an advanced embryo was produced. Although, cloning
had led to marvelous discoveries through various experiments, it was not until 1996, when the first
mammal was created through somatic cell nuclear transfer. In this astonishing experiment, Ian
Wilmut and Keith Campbell created a lamb by transferring the nucleus from a lamb sheep udder
cell into an enucleated egg. Since

Montana Army Aviation started in the early 1950 s with only a handful of pilots and mechanics that returned to Montana from active service that still wanted to serve their country from their home state with the Montana Army National Guard. Equipped with only a few OH 23 Raven helicopters and a small hangar, the Montana Army National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) was born. The units assigned at that time only had limited capabilities but it soon grew into an outstanding organization full of professional Soldiers willing to give their time to make sure the state and country had operational aircraft ready for any mission assigned for national or state emergencies. The Media has been becoming more and more violent over the years. A poll in an issue of Times Magazine, from 2005, showed that 66 percent of Americans think that there is an abundant amount of graphic acts of violenceon televisions (Nakaya, 18). People are exposed to thousands of acts of violence through video games, television, and movies. Many studies show that media violence increases violent behavior in in humans. Studies show, violent video games, and graphic television have physiological effects on children. The government has very few regulations on media violence. Some people believe the government shouldn t limit content because others might be insulted by its material. Even though the government shouldn t censor the media, Media violence is becoming a serious issue because it is becoming more violent, it makes people behave violently, and it has little regulations. The regularity and asperity of media violence has dramatically increased over the years. Media violence is such a broad topic, so we cannot simple get rid of it. • 4. The 1940 Statement Of Academic Freedom And Tenure For many in higher education tenure would be the brass ring; a fitting end to a career of service, education, and research. But what is tenure? Defined in the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure, tenure is first the freedom of teaching, research, and extramural activities, secondly, it is a sufficient degree of economic security to make the profession attractive to men and women of ability (American Association of UniversityProfessors, 1970). The process of defining tenurewas a collaborative effort of faculty, administrators, and educational committees. Originally drawn up in 1915 as the Declaration of Academics, the statement was in place until 1940 when a meeting of the American Association of University Professors(AAUP) and the Association of American Colleges agreed on a restatement to be known as the 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure (American Association of University Professors, 1970). Additional changes were made to the document in 1970, but they retained the modified the name designated in 1940. Since tenure encompasses the freedom of teaching; an essential component to tenure is academic freedom. The 1940 Statement of Academic Freedom and Tenure (1970) states that considers academic freedom as: Teachers are entitled to full freedom in research and in the publication of the results, subject to the adequate performance of their other academic duties; but research for pecuniary return should be based upon an understanding with the ... • 6. A New Form of Expansion Essay A New Form of Expansion Before the start of the Spanish American War of the late nineteenth century and World War I in the early twentieth century, the United States had encouraged expansion as being a way of gaining power. For example, the Frontier thesis, conveyed that it is through the expansion of new lands that humanity would continue to progress. Also the United States portrayed its impatience to expand through Manifest Destiny: the desire to expand from sea to sea with the goal to own and cultivate as much land as possible. However, as the late nineteenth and early twentieth century appeared, America experienced a change. It grew from an ambitious, power seeking country, to the ... Also, in John Hay s First and Second Open Door Notes, he promotes the United States necessity for equal trade with China, which was the U.S main attempt to solve foreign issues, peacefully. Once more, through Senator Albert J. Beveridge s Speech to 56th Congress, he claims that the Pacific is our ocean….And the Pacific is the ocean of the commerce of the future…The power that rules the Pacific, therefore, is the power that rules the world (Doc E). Throughout this time, the theory of the United States dream of Manifest Destiny and its sole desire of expansion supports the idea that the purpose of expansionism, is for foreign dominance thus, the more land you have, the more power you control. The United States interfered with foreign affairs whenever necessary to keep order. As shown through the Annual Message to Congress, Theodore Roosevelt conveys that if it (a nation) keeps order and pays its obligations, it need fear no interference from the United States (Doc F). The Platt Amendment of 1901 specified the conditions under which the U.S could intervene in Cuba s internal affairs; stating that Cuba could not make a treaty with another nation that might impair its independence. Upon arriving to the event, I realized the interpreter wasn t interpreting until the event officially started. So when the presenters were walking around the front talking about when the event will start, she was not interpreting any of that. She informed me, this is because those conversations were private and the event also had not begun yet. However, once the Deaf individual entered late, she completely focused her attention onto him, which I think was a great thing to do. • 10. Compare And Contrast Anime And Anime In recent years, animated programs have dominated the world of film and TV in both America and Japan. These programs, known as cartoons and anime, are some of the most popular forms of entertainment today. Anime and cartoon shows, such as One Piece and Family Guy, have been running for decades and are very well known among society. Animated films such as Disney s The Lion King and Studio Ghibli s Spirited Away have also thrived and even surpassed animated television shows in some instances. Both American and Japanese animationindustries have flourished, and their cartoons and animes continue to grow in popularity. However, similarities and differences between the two soon arise when compared closely; these observations are often what lead fans to prefer one style over the other as well as shape pop culture. Animeand cartoons had very similar origins. Gertie the Dinosaur from 1914 is considered the first American cartoon. Japan s first anime is not as clear, but many believe it to be 1917 s An Obtuse Sword. Both of these animated features were short, silent, and black and white. Their rise in popularity and introduction of the style of animation seen in the modern world did not begin until their Golden Age of animation. In the US, the Golden Age was from the 1920 s to 1960 s; this was when Walt Disney created his own animation studio and began to put out longer cartoons with sound and color. Snow White from the late 30 s was Disney s first big feature film hit. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Use Of Quantitative Trade Models On Aggregate Bilateral... This paper builds on the previous literature which uses quantitative trade models to determine the effects of trade barriers on aggregate bilateral trade flows, income, and welfare, including Eaton and Kortum (2002); Anderson and van Wincoop (2003); Alvarez and Lucas (2007); and Helpman et al. (2008) and more recent papers that address discrepancies between more traditional quantitative trademodels and the data. 3 The main contribution of my paper to this literature is that it demonstrates how the workhorse class of quantitative trade models can be generalized to account for the aggregate effects of non trivial patterns of product level comparative advantage. It does so in a way that maintains, to a large extent, the tractability and parsimony of this class of models while utilizing the wealth of information contained in product level trade data, which is available for most of the world s countries. It also provides succinct and intuitive expressions relating the gains from trade to countries patterns of product level comparative advantage, allowing for a straightforward decomposition of the gains from trade into across product and within product components. This paper is also related to Arkolakis et al. (2012) in that both papers address important features shared among the literature s workhorse class of quantitative trade models, but we make very distinct points. Arkolakis et al. (2012) demonstrate that, in this class of models, the welfare gains from trade depend only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Open Source Security and The KerchoffВґs Principle Introduction This lecture was given by Dr. David Mirza Ahmad one of chief mentors of Subgraph, which is a open source security start up based out in Montreal. The talk was based on Kerchoff s principle which states the security of any cryptographic system does not rest in its secrecy; it must be able to fall into the enemy s hand without inconvenience [1]. The kerchoff s principle underlines the fact that free softwareshould be having reasonably good security. This fact is well understood by the world of cryptography because cryptography is a black box where you never know what is happening inside it. The community was defiantly open and the Symantec acquisition provoked strong protective reactions. Both hackers and security researchers have always shared their research enthusiastically. Someone would be coming with a new class of attack, then the exploits begin to appear and the cycle continues. Another notable example was the coming of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in the mid late 1990 s. IDS were in high gear selling their IDS by publicising to buy this box and never fear the hackers again. IDS are designed to detect the various attack signatures in the real world. But their happiness was short livГ when Tom Ptacek and Tim Newsham published a paper that broke IDS. • 13. Optimization Technique For Feature Selection And... Optimization Technique for Feature Selection and Classification Using Support Vector Machine Abstract Classification problems often have a large number of features in the data sets, but only some of them are useful for classification. Data Mining Performance gets reduced by Irrelevant and redundant features. Feature selection aims to choose a small number of relevant features to achieve similar or even better classification performance than using all features. It has two main objectives are maximizing the classification performance and minimizing the number of features. Moreover, the existing feature selection algorithms treat the task as a single objective problem. Selecting attribute is done by the combination of attribute evaluator and search method using WEKA Machine Learning Tool. We compare SVM classification algorithm to automatically classify the data using selected features with different standard dataset. Index Terms Data Mining, Kernel methods, Support Vector Machine , WEKA, Classification. . пЃµ 1 INTRODUCTION S upport Vector Machine (SVM) was first described in 1992, introduced by Boser, Guyon, and Vapnik. These selections of poems are directly focused on the writers views and passions associated to nature. The poems themselves are described with apostrophe which addresses many of their abstract ideas regarding the nature around them and also described with rich words such as, pastoral, sublime, sylvan, and sprightly. I also learned that Romanticists had a fondness for writing and emphasizing the feelings of living things, particularly animals. In the poem To a Mouse , the author expresses deep care and concern for a mouse who is left for dead, whose house is destroyed, and left to starve. The speaker responds to this by rescuing, feeding, and providing shelter for the poor mouse. This alone shows great care for an animal, even though it s usually considered a pest among others. Another example of fascination of an animal is in the poem The Tyger , where our speaker describes in wonder and majesty a fierce and frightening tiger. He presents it in the sense of seeing this animal as nearly god like by wondering how it came with such balanced form and such herculean strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, symbolism began to be used more often in poems in unique ways that would form a hauntingly beautiful aura to the world of Romantic poetry. The meaning of the organization of architecture no longer reflects upon ideology of the Hawaiians, but the adaptation of more technological advanced living space. As a result, many temples were dismantled or destroyed, leaving only he foundation stones (Ladegoged, #). John Young and Isaac Davis built the first Western style building, Kailua Kona, in Hawaiiin 1795. Afterwards, three more brick palaces were constructed in Lahaina. In the middle section of the visual presentation is a black cat with a mirror like eye and a mirror like background. These materials were used to show how the cat becomes sort of a mirror to the narrator to see how he transformed himself into a totally different person and allowed him to see the changes that happened to him. I also used black pom poms to create a real feel (texture wise) to the cat. In the story, the narrator proclaims his purpose for penning is to clear his conscience. He is aware of his human condition and his pain filled being. He even claims that he succumbs to the spirit of perverseness within him, as if it were a natural course. After his actions of violence in maiming and murdering the black cat, he becomes regretful for what he had done, and in some attempt at redemption seeks out another cat as a replacement. This is exactly what leads him to hate the new black cat so much. It is as if it was resurrected, the missing eye is an exact replica of his first crime and the new white gallows like patch is a mark of his evil act. • 19. Essay on Editha by William Dean Howells Editha by William Dean Howells The story Editha by William Dean Howells and the poem Reconciliation by Walt Whitman are part of a true national literature. They are both told in a way that only we as Americans could ever understand. They speak of war in all of its glory, and they speak of all of the pain left behind. Editha is a story about a woman who loves her country so much that she would be willing to give up anyone who does not feel as she does. Her fiancГ© George was not enthusiastic about the war. To George the war was about senseless bloodshed, but to Editha it was about taking pride in a country that she loved. She told George, I call it a sacred war. Editha was a symbol of what America stood for and what America meant to so many people who could only dream of having the opportunity to live here. George was a symbol of all the young men who fought for this country to make it what it is today. They fought for a country they believed in. They fought for us, and for our freedom. This story shows the greatness on which this country was founded. Nobody except Americans could understand the dedication to a country that today, stands strong because of the love that the people felt for the land they lived on. Howells tried to show the depth of that love through Editha and George, which makes this a part of true national literature. Reconciliation is a poem that was meant to open the eyes of the reader to the effects the war had after it was over. It is written through the eyes of a dead soldier who has seen what the war has done. This soldier has the blood of many men on his hands and will always remember the death. Where Editha showed the significance of war in relation to a person s love of their country, Reconciliation tells in a few strong lines, the somber mood of a country that has lost many lives. Whitman writes, For my enemy is dead, a man divine as myself is dead (Whitman 129). It is not said what side this divine man fought for but it shows that no matter what side the men fought on they were fighting for what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At the in advance, the film prominently tackles all these topics but deep down it also portrays the partnership between a dad and a son. Rhetorical and arguments analysis In a single conversation between a father and a son, Naylor coaches his son Joey by telling him the beauty of argument: if you argue correctly, you re never wrong . In this type of rhetorical strategy, the emphasis is shifted from the primary concern for an unrelated or tangential concern to earn a disagreement. In another debate Naylor uses the red herring fallacy. That is explicated when he s asked to testify before the senatorial committee. He says Gentlemen, it s called education ... It s the job of each mother or father to alert their children of all risks in the world, including smokes, so that 1 day when they grow older they can decide for themselves. Here again, Nick waves from the central subject of cigarettes compared to that of parental responsibility, freedom and education. He s well aware that People in america love their freedom and therefore takes on with these words to regulate their feelings. Naylor also uses the faulty analogy fallacy in the senatorial committee conference. He compares the Conglomerated Cigarette s cigarette financing with the financing for the senate s marketing campaign contributions. The advertisement hominem fallacy is utilized by Naylor when he suggests placing indicators on certain products like Vermont cheddarcheese, aeroplanes and cars. The red herring fallacy is again used when Naylor highlights the unwanted effects of Vermont cheddar cheese on increasing cholesterol levels. • 21. Essay on The English Civil War The English Civil War The English Civil War was a complicated, intellectual war between the two most powerful forces in England: Parliament and the King. Conflicts between the two powers began when King Charles I dissolved Parliament in 1625 because they would not give him the money he demanded to fund his war against Spain. Parliament, who was lead by John Pym, felt that the King was showing favouritism towards the Roman Catholics, especially since Charles had recently married the Roman Catholic French Princess. Although Charles recalled Parliament in 1626, he proceeded to dissolve the second Parliament mainly because it attempted to impeach him. While there were minor reforms to the system, the people, the Church and the Monarchy of England went back to living their lives relatively the same as they had before the start of the English Civil War. Violence during the English Civil war effected hundreds of thousands of English civilians. However, while violence killed thousands of people...the impact of the war as a war was surprisingly limited. Casualties during the war were high: 190 000 people died in England and 868 000, or 11.6% of the population, perished within the British Isles. This number was only a third of the amount of people who died in England during the great plague of 1570 1670. King Charles II was content with putting things aside and starting over again, and it seemed like the people of England were too. Although women and children lost husbands and fathers, their loses were quickly replaced by new husbands or relatives to help out. By the end of the war, most people simply wanted to get on with their lives since there was nothing that they could about the people they lost during the war. Many people forgot their differences and were found even marrying across the barriers which were created during the war. Damaged property was quickly repaired since it created jobs for civilians looking for work. Buildings were destroyed, but since the war was not as explosive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yet, rumors have it that tattoos are a modern day trend that originated in prison. Tattooing actually dates back to five thousand years ago. They have not just become some new pop culture fad. Prehistoric clans, ancient Egyptians, Native Americans, sailors, circus people, royalty, celebrities, and plenty of young adults today have all participated in some form of body art. Tattooing has played a significant role in mythologies and customs in ancient cultures. In American, tattoos were introduced by sailors returning from expeditions in Europe during the late seventeen hundreds and the early eighteen hundreds. Tattoos became trendy in America through said sailors and bikers, which showed they had a look of respect and dignity within their groups. The earliest recording of tattoos was found on the frozen remains of an ancestor to Northern Europeans from around Thirty Five Thousand B.C to about Two Thousand Three Hundred B.C. The remains had small markings on it s lower back, ankles, and one of it s feet, made by rubbing charcoal into cuts. A series of x rays revealed a joint disease where each of the tattoos were located, which has led researchers to believe that the early Europeans used this as a medical treatment to reduce pain. • 24. Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park Reintroducing Wolves to Yellowstone National Park The area of Yellowstone National Park has a long history of inhabitants, even before it became the nation s first national park. In the area now known as Yellowstone National Park, wolves were once very prominent. However due to westward expansion in the 1800s, agriculture began to increase. This led to the wolves that once thrived in this area to being practically completely removed. The increase in agriculture in this region led to a lot of the wolves prey becoming reduced or eliminated. Since the wolves had a decrease in prey, the wolves began to prey on domestic animals, which then resulted in humans eliminating the wolves almost completely. By the 1930s the wolf was eliminated from the area. This was before people had an understanding of how ecosystems work and the interrelation of species. Now that the wolves were gone, elk then became overpopulated. A lot of the vegetation began to disappear as well due to the overgrazing of the elk. However after about a 70 year absence, in 1995 the wolves were carefully brought back to Yellowstone. When they brought the wolves back to the park, there was not just an effect on one species or one area but rather they affected the entire ecosystem of the area. I will discuss their effects on areas such elk, beaver colonies, scavengers, aspen trees, willow trees and cottonwood trees. Once the wolves were brought back into Yellowstone, immediately the elk population began decreasing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Though I did not understand much of the book, I was able to take a couple of his ideas and really think about how I see photos. In the future, I intend to use these ideas when I look at photos. One of his ideas that I was able to understand is the way he looks at pictures. The other one is his second definition of punctum. The first of the two ideas that interested me the most was the way Barthes looked at photos. He did not say that he liked a photo because it had his favorite animal or color. He looked deeper into the photo. He looked to see what had caught his eye the most about a photo he enjoyed. He called the catching of his eye the punctum. Barthes described the punctum as, ... is that accident which pricks me... (Barthes 27). This prick didn t always hit him with every photo. Throughout the book, he described certain photos that I thought were interesting, but he did not enjoy them. An example of a photo that he didn t enjoy was the photo of the two nuns and three helmeted soldiers, which was photographed by Koen Wessing in 1979. The main reason that it didn t appeal to him was that it didn t have much of a, duality (Barthes 23) to it. Then there were photos that had caught his eye. An example of an image he enjoyed and had his prick was a photo of an African American family; photographed by James Van Der Zee in 1926. The family is not what the punctum was. The ... (295) He emphasizes that motivation, in contrast to pacifism, is the key to achieving his goal. Mrs. Sommers longs for a former life throughout the short story and ultimately shows how selfish desires can lead to guilt and dissatisfaction. Mrs. Sommers longs for her former life. When she is given a large amount of money, she finds herself preoccupied with how she will spend it. The roles and relationships between mortals and immortals is a constant variable in Greek mythology and in Homer s epic poem The Odyssey. In The Odyssey gods and mortals have complex and mostly one sided relationships, for example, Athena is a kind of mother figure and protector of Odysseus, but abandons him for almost 10 years. Through out The Odysseythe gods frequently enact their extreme punishment and reward system. • 42. How Did The Parthenon Contribute To The Pantheon The Parthenon in Athens and the Pantheon in Rome have both made significant contributions in architecture throughout the years from when they were built. They have also been important in helping us understand the cultures of the Greeks and Romans during the times the two buildings were constructed. Right from its name it is fairly obvious that the Parthenon was built as a dedication to Athena, the patron deity of Athens. The name Parthenon derives from one of Athena s epithets: Athena Parthenos. Parthenon therefore means house of Parthenos . From the 4th century BCE, the whole building acquired the name Parthenon. (M. Cartwright, 2012) The Parthenon was both a temple and a treasury. These two functions tremendously influenced its design. There is evidence that the temple was built to measure in order to accommodate the chryselephantine statue of Athena by Pheidius. (M. Cartwright, 2012) The Greeks had a very extensive mythology which they took very seriously. Due to this, building of the Parthenon was a form of gratitude to Athena for helping them win the war. Features of the Parthenon are from both the Doric and Ionic orders. The Parthenon s aesthetic appeal emanates from the refinement of many established norms of Greek architecture and ... The Pursuit of Happyness Essay Social stereotypes and Happiness The Pursuit of Happyness 11/21/2012 Instructor: Prof. Kristin Little Author: Tareq Naseer Alsamarh Social stereotypes and happiness The story of the movie The Pursuit of Happyness directed by Gabriele Muccino portrays a family who struggles with finding enough money to pay taxes and afford living expenses. The movie takes a place in San Francisco during the 80s. The two main characters are the father Chris Gardner and his son Christopher, Will Smith and Jaden Smith respectively. Gardner tries to support his family. But every time he attempts to make things better, they always end up worse. Gardner in the story wonders on how to be happy? He earns his money by selling the bone density ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In another perspective, fatherhood for Gardner is like a job for him. Because he loses his wife, he needs to provide joy, fun and help for his son Christopher which is not an easy job to do. Those fathers, who spend more time with their children, have a better life than others who spend most of their time working and gaining money. However, being a father as a single parent like Chris gives him the enthusiasm to do his best and replace his wife s role to have a better life with his son. Yet, this decreases the happiness that Gardner possesses. According to Scott Coltrane, a sociologist at the University of California, points out that Father s style of parenting has changed too. Fathers are beginning to look more like mothers (qtd. in Cullen and Grossman). Before Linda leaves the family, she works double shifts to make more money to afford the living expenses and to help her husband. So Chris is the one who takes more care of their son than the mother, Linda. Gardner seems to be happier being close to his son. There are many scenes in the movie that show how Gardner and Christopher are happy of being together. Nonetheless, there is only one scene that Christopher not even misses his mother; instead he asks did mom leave because of me? (The Pursuit of Happyness). This indicates that Gardner does a great job of being a single parent that makes his son, not remembering his mother. For fathers, home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which is why top academic and suicide postvention expert, Karl Andriessen has focused his PhD project at the University of New South Wales, on investigating the grief, mental health and help seeking experiences of adolescents who have lost a loved one through suicide. The study, supported by the Anika Foundation for Adolescent Depression and Suicide, identifies the adolescents experiences, which may be specific for this age group, to determine whether they require specific attention from caregivers or health professionals. It is well known that exposure to suicide and bereavement after suicide is a risk factor for adverse outcomes related to health, mental health and social functioning, says Mr Andriessen. We started this research project because most of the research has been focused on the adult population, not on the younger age groups. Hence, little is known about their grief and mental experiences, and their needs for support. The study aims to redress that gap in our knowledge. The project involved semi structured telephone interviews with 39 adolescents bereaved by suicide and/or another cause of death. Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions. Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through hands on experimentation. Materials The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data collection interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula, graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,) 400.00ml of distilled water (H2O) Procedure The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. During that time period, it was surprise that any of the previous experiments gave positive results. Despite their low success rates, the experiments however did demonstrate that the nucleus retained to its full complement of genetic information (Wilmut Highfield 68) which inspired later scientists to explore mammalian cloning. In 1967, Derek Bromhall decided to tackle the untouched region of mammalian cloning. In order to attempt nuclear transfer for mammalian embryos, Bromhall developed the microsurgical equipment and techniques that were required. By using a glass pipette, Bromhall transferred the nucleus from a rabbit embryo cell into a rabbit egg without a nucleus.
