Radiation Fog In California
Every winter the Central Valley experiences radiation fog that forms across the area. The Central
Valley in California has ideal conditions for radiation fog to form. The valley is between a
coastal mountain range on the West Coast and on the east side is where the Sierra Nevada
mountains sit (Herckes, et. Al). Due to this topography of this area air masses become stagnant
and ventilation of the valley is hindered (Herckes, et. Al). The lack of ventilation in the valley
leads to temperature inversions, because of high pressure systems that form of the Great Basin
(Herckes, et. Al). This leads to radiation fog forming because of inversion during nights in which a
layer of moist air is below a layer of drier air (Ahrens and Sampson 97). The

going for the company lately its stock has lagged the S P500 Walmart is pushing ahead towards
its big goals: To generate no waste, to be 100 percent powered by renewable energy and to sell
lots more products that sustain people and the environment. Yet a closer look at the report
demonstrates that there are limits to what any company, even one as vast as Walmart, can do.
Most of its environmental gains have come from doing what Walmart has always done very well
driving efficiency in its stores and supply chain. When sustainable initiatives cost more money, as
they sometimes do, progress has been halting. Still, Walmart deserves at least two cheers, maybe
two and half for its efforts, particularly in the current, dispiriting political climate. As Elizabeth
Sturcken of the Environmental Defense Fund, which works closely with Walmart, told me:
Leadership on environmental issues is coming from Bentonville these days, not from Washington.
Some people in Washington want to roll back basic environmental protection on clean air and
clean water, saying it s bad for business. Our work with Walmart proves that s not true ...
Generally, all the signs that I see are full speed ahead. Andrea Thomas, who has led Walmart s

Black Death
THE BLACK DEATH

Around 1339 in northwestern Europe, the population was beginning to outgrow the food supply
and a severe economic crisis began to take place. The winters were extremely cold and the
summers were dry. Due to this extreme weather, very low crops yielded and those that grew
were dying. Inflation became a common occurrence and as famine broke out, people began to
worry. The time period of approximately 1339 to 1346 is now known as the famine before the
plague (history). These seven bad years of weather and famine lead to the greatest plague of all
times. In 1347, endemic to Asia, The Black Death began spreading throughout Western Europe.
Over the time of three years, the plague killed one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But there were others they had forgotten...the children. They were by all means frequent receivers
of the disease and it killed them almost instantly or within a few hours . The children in plague
infested towns had premature exposures which allowed for the disease to affect them physically
and mentally. Once infected, the parents of the children would abandon them on the streets instead
because many could not bear to watch them die (Science National Geographic). The females who
contracted the plague were especially disregarded because they could not carry on the family name
for generations to come. The children could not provide for themselves, so they suffered greatly.
As the Church lost spiritual authority, the clergy of the Church began leaving. About sixty
percent of the clergy abandoned their Christian duties and fled. The monasteries and the clergy
suffered the greatest loss (eyewitness). Many of the Churches finest leaders were quitting and
some even moved far away to avoid the problems they were facing. Since many head officials
were parting, the Church panicked and began aggressively recruiting others to fill the ranks. As
the Monks, Nuns, and Friars continued to disappear, the standards for their replacements lowered.
This caused the monasteries to be run by less educated people, leading to a decline of vernacular.
They knew the townspeople felt that the Church had let them down, because any blow suffered by
the Church was also a direct blow

What Is It Like In The Eye Of A Tornado By Charles Bryant
The Eye of a Tornado In the article What is it like in the eye of a tornado? by Charles Bryant, the
reader learns about the center of a tornado. According to the American Meteorological Society, a
tornado is a violent rotating column of air, in contact with the ground, either pendant from a
cumuliform cloud or underneath a cumuliform cloud, and often (but not always) visible as a funnel
cloud. Even though a tornadois extremely dangerous, there are two people who have entered the
eye and made it out alive. The first man that made it through the tornado, Will Keller, was a
farmer. He was out checking on his crops after a hail storm when he thought a tornado might form.
He took his family to the cellar but had to get another look at the

Competitive Advantage Of A Competitive
Competitive Advantage
With a competitive advantage you are able to excel within the industry, but to do so one needs to
be able to understand how to go about getting that idea advantage. There are ways that aid a
business in reaching the levels of success. With the competitive analysis you have five areas that
have to be analyzed in order to be competitive.
Being able to be competitive within the industry is a key element. Since it is overloaded with
larger firms it will be vital to lock in on services that the larger firms find not to be important to
success. I feel that one of my secrets will be utilizing my creativity within the marketing, finding
lenders, offering that extra care in customer service, and our company s integrity. By staying
true to values, will appeal to the general public in positive ways. That is when my company will
become a household name. Keeping meeting schedule on a timely basis will allow my
company to see where we are at within the month and billing cycles. This will inform us as to
which direction we need to improve on. Offering services and property that the larger firms do
not feel will benefit their business will be huge steps for the success within my company. Even
this will have to be done with caution, in order to make sure the revenue will be beneficial for
everyone involved. Keeping my cost within my budget will be mandatory in order to stay
competitive. My business will have to make sure to keep its costs low in order to

The fashion industry is a utopia, of silk and suede and, shoes and belts. It is a place where

Another former intern at Alexander McQueen sued the company recently for exploiting her and
making her do art works for embroideries and dyeing fabrics for free. (The Guardian, February 17,
2014)
In reality, the very concept of unpaid internship is faulty. To survive in expensive cities like New
York or Los Angeles and pay out of your own pocket for food, accommodation and transportation
while you work forty hours a week for free is both unrealistic and impractical, unless, of course if
you have the financial backing. But that means that fashion internships are just for the rich as a
middle class household definitely doesn t have the budget for it. So does this imply that only if
you have the money, you get a good internship? A survey by NACE which came in The Wall
Street Journal says, 60% of 2012 graduates who worked a paid internship got at least one job
offer, while just 37% of those in unpaid gigs got any offers. That s slightly only slightly better
than the offer rate for graduates who skipped internships entirely, at 36%. Without a job surety,
interns are walking aimlessly knocking on every door to just get in. Interns are not even
considered as employees although in most small scale companies they make up a major part of the
working force. What is wrong in the system is that the ones who

The Importance of Improving Communication Skills in the...
My biggest challenge while trying to move up the corporate ladder is interpersonal communication
with co workers and presentation speeches in front of the owners and financial managers. During
my childhood, I did not have the opportunity to communicate with my parents or examples of loud
arguments and negative personal attacks. Humans develop language and social skills from its
surroundings so I guess I can blame mine on my dysfunctional family. At least I did almost five
years ago. When the Director of Finance promoted me to senior accountant, his only constructive
criticism was to attend different communicationcourses to groom me for the Assistant Director of
Finance position.

Even in the present day, people are judged by the color of their skin and in the corporate world
by gender. I don t have to go far for a great example. In my corporate world, being a Caucasian
woman is like fighting an uphill battle. No matter how many classes I complete, it does not stop
others from asking and responding defensively or seeing me as a threat.
Now, I find myself in a conflict with some of the male directors, which affects my emotions, mental
state, and personal beliefs. It may be a result of an individual s perceptual and personal discomfort.
Style, selective perception, halo effect, poor attention and retention, defensiveness, close
mindedness, insufficient filtration are the Individual or Psychological barrier . (Jain, 2009)
A list of the do s for breaking the barrier:
Allow employees access to resources, self expression and idea generation.
Express your expectations to others.
Use less of absolute words such as never , always , forever , etc.
Be a good, attentive and active listener.
Filter the information correctly before passing on to someone else.
Use specific and accurate words which audiences can easily understand.
Try and view the situations through the eyes of the speaker.

Combating Worker Injustices During in the Late 19th Century
Workers in the late 19th century were treated unfairly the majority of the time. They worked in
unsafe conditions for meager pay. Young children joined the workforce to help support their
families. Most of the workers during this period were just thankful to earn a living, so they rarely
complained about their working conditions. All of these factors spurred the creation of labor unions
during the 19th century. The Knights of Labor, the American Federation of Labor, and the Industrial
Workers of the Worldwere just a few of the unions established during this time. The Knights of
Labor was founded in 1869 by Uriah S. Stephens. This union grew slowly, but managed to spread
more rapidly even during the depression of the 1870s. Some of the working stipulations that this
union imposed were elimination of convict labor competition, eight hour workdays, guarantee of
salaries, and the use of paper currency. They also wanted equal pay for both men and women,
which was a first during those times. A big achievement for the Knights of Labor was keeping
children under fourteen out of the workforce. The Preamble to the Constitution of the Knights of
Labor stated that, The prohibition of the employment of children in workshops, mines, and factories
before attaining their fourteenth year. This allowed children to be children at least until their
teenage years, without the worries that adults faced. The American Federation of Labor (AFL) was
started in 1886. It was started

The Great Awakening And Second Great Awakening
Many colonists came to America in order to escape the constraints of the Church of England, but
continued to establish colonies that were built on Biblical principles. Due in part to the strictness
and intolerance of the Puritan religion and differing beliefs among other religions, church
membership began to dwindle and many people in later generations were either excluded from or
decided against, joining the church. The Great Awakening and Second Great Awakening, as
described by Butler, Wacker, and Stout (2003), were religious movements that emphasized Biblical
teachings and the importance of a life changing experience through belief in JesusChrist as well as
the importance of spreading that message to others. Through large camp meetings like the Cane
RidgeRevival, charismatic preachers brought the good news of salvation through Christ to a
multitude of people, many of whom were disillusioned with the social and political climate of the
times. This message of hope and morality is needed even more so today, in a world filled with
hopelessness, crime, hate and drugs. Of course caution has to be taken to ensure that the
emotionalism of present day religionis based on the model of Jesus, who taught sinners in a spirit
of love, and not in the method of the religious leaders of Biblical times, who were self righteous
and condemning.
Revivals in America, known as the Great Awakening and Second Great Awakening, began with
George Whitefield in the 1730 s and continued on and

The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education Essay
The Importance of Brown V. The Board of Education To understand the importance of Brown V.
The Board of Education of Topeka, one must take into account the gravity of the prevailing law
and attitude that existed in 1954. In 1896, the Supreme Court established the separate but equal
doctrine in the case of Plessy V. Ferguson. Essentially the court was saying that blacks should be
treated equally but due to an obvious difference, race, blacks could be treated equally but separate.
Justice Henry Brown wrote in his majority opinion; The object of the Fourteenth Amendment was
undoubtedly to enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of

In fact a series of cases from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia and Delaware all found their way
to the Supreme Court. But a distinguished attorney with the NAACP named Thurgood Marshall
brought Linda Browns case to prominence. By this time, Thurgood Marshall was an
experienced Supreme Court advocate. He had already challenged all white primary elections in
Smith V. Allwright, and restrictive covenants in Shelley V. Kraemer. His style was
straightforward and plainspoken. He held no punches and got to his point without a lot of
dramatics. When asked for a definition of the word equal by Justice Felix Frankfurter, Marshall
replied, Equal means getting the same thing, at the same time, and in the same place. 2 This was
the basis of his case. Chief Justice Earl Warren presided over the case, and on May 17, 1954
decided in Brown s favor. In a brief, unanimous opinion delivered by Warren, the Court declared
that; separate education facilities are inherently unequal 3 and that racial segregation violates the
equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, thus overruling the Plessy case. Many Americans
praised Warren s decision agreeing that in

Project Life Cycle Of A Website
A website Business Dictionary states project to be a Planned set of interrelated task to be
executed over a fixed period and with certain cost and other limitations . While in 1993 Turner
said project is an endeavour in which human, material and financial resources are organised in a
novel way, to undertake a unique scope of work, of a given specification, within the constraints of

Overrunning of a project is one of the common reason for project failure, 50% of construction
projects overrun1. Planning phase of a project involves allocation of resources and dates with
deliverables. A project overrun clearly indicates poor planning in terms of scheduling. During
project execution, project activities are subject to considerable uncertainty, new activities may have
to be incorporated or activities may have to be dropped. A disrupted schedule incurs higher costs
due to missed due dates and deadlines, resource idleness, higher work in process inventory and
increased system nervousness due to frequent rescheduling.
Cost:
This is often the most important factor of project. Well, financing of a project starts from concept
phase and cash flow with allocation is done in planning phase, but the execution phase requires
maximum efforts in terms of resources and cost. Approximately 63% of all information systems
projects encounter substantial budget overrun, with overrun values typically between 40 and 200
percent 2. Changing market conditions, Scope of project, and unbalanced budget allocation can
result in major cost overrun, normally an overrun project is bound to cost more in terms of static
inventory and resource idleness. Erroneous estimates for cost and schedule indicates Lack of
prioritisation and understanding.
Quality:
Quality is the scope or the stander of deliverables required. While the scope of project is defined in

Scientology Is A Perfect Society
There is no such thing as perfect, whether it is doing something in a perfect way, or even just
living in a perfect ideal society. A perfect ideal society is what is known as a utopia , and is

Writers Face Censorship In Persian Letters By Montesquieu...
Writers Face Censorship Most, but not all, government and church
authorities felt they had a sacred duty to defend the old order. They
believed that God had set up the old order. To protect against the attacks
of the Enlightenment, they waged a war of censorship, or restricting
access to ideas and information. They banned and burned books and

To avoid censorship, philosophes and writers like Montesquieu and

Usbek and Rica, to mock French society. The hero of Voltaire s satirical

The Use Of Satire And Humor Is A Vital Function Of Our...
Satire and Humor is a Vital Function of our Society Humor and satire is an entertaining and
extremely effective method for highlighting social ideologies, challenging a governmental system
or an organization, exposing injustice, and encouraging positive change in perspective. In his book,
Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton asserts that humorists are a vital part of society as they are always
successful in communicating, conveying, and delivering their message or idea to the public and the
community. Humorists and satirists have demonstrated their vital role in inspiring freedom of
speech and thought, which motivates progressive changes, in political election campaigns hosted
on TV almost daily, and in Mark Twain s satire of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
Comedians occasionally and intentionally use offensive and insulting comments to get their
message across, however, these statements normally include protected opinions and beliefs about
certain issues and global topics. By orally speaking or writing their ideas and beliefs, satirists and

Assignment #3: iPremier
BADM 350 1. How well did the iPremier Company perform during the seventy five minute attack?
If you were Bob Turley, what might you have done differently during the attack?
Normally, a company would follow emergency procedures while dealing with crises, but in
iPremier s case, there was no emergency procedure available. Under these circumstances, and with
no prior experience with security breaches, I believe the company performed well. Bob Turley
communicated well with the other members of the company, but if I were in his shoes, I would
have been more conservative and acted faster.
In responding to the crisis, there were two main issues that iPremier faced understanding the attack,

iPremier s procedures were absolutely deficient. They had an outdated emergency manual that
employees couldn t find, and almost couldn t access the data center. Additional measures they
could have implemented long before the attack include revising the emergency procedure and
making sure all employees know how to follow it. 3. Now the attack has ended, what can the
iPremier Company do to prepare for another such attack?
While I mentioned revising the emergency procedure in the previous question, there are other ways
to prepare as well. iPremier could implement a method to escalate unsatisfactory service from Qdata
to higher level management; if they switch to a data center with open lines of communication, the
next crisis would be easier to handle, or it might even be completely averted. 4. In the aftermath of
the attack, what would you be worried about? What actions would you recommend?
I would be worried about three issues, including the identity and motivation of the hacker, the
amount of data that was taken from iPremier, and public disclosure. Since Bob didn t pull the
plug, there is a log documenting what happened during the attack I would start by analyzing the
log and trying to solve the first two issues. Public disclosure is a legal matter, yet it affect thee

The current system is an open network system without any kind of security. The computers don t
have anti malware programs and data is not backed up. Physical security is also weak without
alarms, sprinkler, and cameras. The most secure networks combine hardware, software and physical
security methods together, offering the most protection to all users of any network.
Our plan will include network security, which will protect the network. It will protect the usability,
reliability, integrity, and safety of the network and data. Plan will also include host based security
system. These will include applications to monitor detect, and counterattack against the hosts
networks and systems. There are many types of security methods can be used to secure a network.
Network and host Security components will be,
Anti virus on each computers
Firewall and Virtual Private Network(VPN) to block unauthorized access to the network and
provide secure remote access
Wi Fi Protected Access 2 for the wireless security Firewall is a basic and easily implemented
methods of the network security (software based). It will allow authorized access to computer while
blocking unauthorized access by configuring access conditions based on user defined rules, IP.
VPN will be used to encrypt connection across a network while using the internet as transmission
medium. It builds a much secured data connection. VPN connection software encrypts the data
being sent between one places to another.

Pros And Cons Of Rescue Services
Would You Risk Two Lives Just To Save One? Did you know that over two hundred thirty deaths
have happened on Mount Everest and that rescue services have only successfully removed thirty
bodies? Those people died because they were unprepared by not having enough oxygen or they
didn t plan accordingly. Being unprepared, not being physically fit, and putting other people at risk
are three reasons why I think that Rescue Services should not be allowed for people who put
themselves at risk.
My first reason I think that rescue services should not be allowed to people who put themselves at
risk is that they might not only put themselves at risk but also the people who are trying to save
them. It states in the article called Ranger Killed During

Homeostasis
Homeostasis
Homeostasis is the way that a system functions to control and maintain the body s physiological
systems. This system consists of:
Stimulus: This is what causes the change of the variable.
Variables: This is what changes to cause the systems out of equilibrium. This could be things such
as: blood glucose levels, body temperature, salt levels, ph levels, blood pressure.
Receptor: This is what detects the change. (pancreas)
Control Centre: This is what decides what to do about the change
Effector: This is the solution to maintain internal levels back to them optimum or equilibrium level.
Homeostasis is carried out in two ways: Negative feedback and Positive feedback. In a feedback
loop the product of a process, has an effect on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means when blood glucose levels rise above the optimum level, the organ s cells can t
absorb the glucose into the cells, and the liver can t convert it into glycogen to store, like it
usually would if insulin were present. (5) Type 2 diabetes is when the body doesn t recognize
the insulin and therefore cannot spread the glucose out of the blood to the rest of the body s
organs. As a result of the high levels of glucose, the pancreas (The Detector) detects this and as a
result produces more insulin to help it spread through the body and lower the blood glucose levels.
This keeps happening and is an example of a negative feedback system until the it eventually shuts
down and no longer is produced. Both types of diabetes cause a disruption in the homeostatic

He Went On The Blue Highway Short Story
Boom! Bang! There has been another wreck on the interstate. The interstate is a dangerous place
for people to drive some people will be texting and not paying attention for other drivers. This is
why you need to drive on a calm highway with barely any cars on it; it is called a blue highway. In

interesting because everything is on the exit ramps and that is a long way, away.
The author was saying, He went on highway 50 instead of getting on the interstate because he got

Meaning Things Are Big Meaning
The Most Meaningful Word The most meaningful word in the story, ВЁLittle Things are BigВЁ,
is failed. The story, ВЁLittle Things are BigВЁ is about a man recalling a time when he felt like
he was impolite and uncivil. This man has lots of respect for his culture and as a Puerto Rican
believes in courtesy. When he does not fulfill his imaginary duty he feels like he has failed. The
word, failed, is the most meaningful word in, ВЁLittle Things are BigВЁ because it sets the tone.
Tone means feelings or an attitude expressed. So the word has a lot of feeling and meaning it
behind it. The word helps the readers understand how awful the characterfeels. At the end of the

Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic
framework of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It
enables interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence
stratigraphy uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the
depositional settings of the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of
the extent and character of the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally
designed for seismic sections, but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It
now provides a powerful method and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects.
The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their
upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977).
And it is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is
interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). The
systems tracts are divided into Falling Stage Systems Tract/Forced Regressive Wedge Systems
Tract (FSST/ FRWST), Lowstand Systems Tract (LST), Transgressive Systems Tract (TST) and
Highstand Systems Tract (HST); and are bounded by surfaces which consist of

Disadvantages Of Sez
SEZ...Special Economic Zone...why are they special?
Well to start with SEZs have always emerged a matter of conflict between the industrialists and the
land owners. Debates regarding their status, policies and even existence have always drawn their
attention.
In 1965 the India adopted the earliest versions of SEZ as export oriented zones called Export
Processing Zone by setting up Asia s first EPZ in Kandla. This was a step to boost the economy by
allowing to work outside the clutches of poor infrastructure and controlled policies. It was to draw
foreign investments and give the much needed growth to the economy. However, it did not receive
much of an attention due lack of clarity on policies and other difficulties.
The Chinese on the other idea got major success with the SEZ concept. India also began to bring
new ideas to encourage the SEZs. The policy stance underwent a change.
The new shift in policy was more to add ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This initiative is expected to bring greater economic prosperity to the nation and expand the growth
horizon to even higher levels.
However, most of the time there is a controversy with regards to land issues involved in SEZs.
Conversion of agricultural land to industrial hubs is a matter of debate. The positive argument is
that land is necessary and every possible effort should be made to gather large lands for industry to
add to growth, but the negative argument it that industry should be set up on lands which are not
suitable for agriculture.
Whether or not a landowner gets the right to compensation is even a bigger question. The farmers
are given alternative means of living and whether they can adapt to it is a matter of debate again.
The Land Acquisition Act of 1894 under which the lands are acquired was considered to be very
back dated according to the current situation. However the new bill aims to solve this solves and

Africa By Kofi Awoonor Analysis
Modern World Literature: Africa Ghana s history is a metaphor for what occurred in the
immediate aftermath of independence in Africa, is a quote by Kofi Awoonor, Ghana s leading
literary figure and one of Africa s most acclaimed authors. Three of his poems illustrate the
hardships and trials that the Africans faced after their claim of independence from Britain. As said
by Awoonor himself, ...high hopes were crushed by the greed, corruption, and lust for power... .
The author uses multiple literary devices as a way to emphasize the adversities they faced. Kofi
Awoonor symbolizes the downfall of Ghana after independence through the use of theme, mood,
and symbolism in his Three Poems. The first literary device Awoonor uses is... Show more content

The next literary device is mood. Song of War holds a very intense and demanding voice to the
text. It is full of declaratives and it uses strong diction about war and their military. In the text,
they refer to those who do not want to serve as cowards and claim that they shall lose their
calabashes when we come... . Another example is, When we start, the ground shall shake...
which is meant to stress their amount of soldiers and bring fear to their opponents. The Sea Eats
the Land at Home contains the mood of pity and despair. The poem greatly highlights the
devastation of the people from the loss of their land and property. It can be detected in the poem
how the mothers are mostly the one in desolation for the fear of her kids. An example that backs
up said statement is, With her two children shivering from the cold, her hands on her breast,
weeping mournfully. The mood contributes to the distress of the Africans from not only loss of
land, but loss of hope. At the Gates holds the mood of faith and reliance. The narrator does not
know where he is, but he remains dependent of God and knows that he will be alright as long as
he knows he is doing it for Him. He states in the poem, I will drink this calabash for it is god s
gift to me... . Another example is ...give me an offering that I will give to God and he will be
happy. The mood helps readers view the emotion and purpose distributed throughout the story, and
symbolism is another

Dilma Rousseff s Impeachment In Brazil
The current event I choose is about Brazil s impeachment movement towards President Dilma
Rousseff. The reason why Dilma Rousseff is facing impeachment is because a large portion of

scandal involving the oil giant Petrobras is also known as the Car Wash Investigation that occur

existing myth, Brazil is a polity characterized by the relative unimportance of race both as a
cognitive moral category and as a determinant of one s structural social position (104). In other
words, what Vargas is saying that Brazil is still based on a social hierarchy and how the power

Thus began their passage into India.
Not to far along, a party is planned for Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested. A few native Indians are
invited. The party turns out to be a flop. The British and the natives separate themselves from each
other and nobody communicates to one another. Similar to the small dances we use to have as
kids. The girls would sit on one side of the room and the boys on the other and no one with enough
courage to ask the opposite sex to dance.
Shortly after this disastrous party, Dr. Fielding, principal of the College, invites the ladies to his
house for tea. Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested insist Dr. Aziz and Professor Godbole attend. The
small intimate party is successful. Both cultures came together. It brought joy to Dr. Aziz that he
was able to find unity with the British. With the positive results of this first encounter of the two
different cultures, Dr. Aziz believed that only more good things could come of the integration. He
invited the entire group to a trip to the Marabar Caves where he could show the British a bit of his
culture. It was the first step in a long road of multi cultural society. Even today we still see effects of
a multi cultural society. We are a society that continues to forge into tomorrow admiring other
cultures and trying to find commonalties amongst the differences.

Naturalization Of Immigration Essay
Though these recent initiatives have attempted to facilitate naturalization for undocumented
immigrants in the U.S., there is more to be done. Significant opposition exists, however, in the
duration of the Obama administration, more immigrant friendly bills have reached Congress with
greater popularity than before, and this recent turnaround in policies can be linked to the release of
many studies showing the positive effects of immigration. Even with the widely popularized
argument that immigrants in the United Statescause failings in society, there are a multitude of
benefits the federal government can derive through streamlining naturalization for illegal
immigrants. Keeping up these walls, both physical and legal, between immigrants and... Show more

These blocks are unnecessary, especially when immigration is a profitable system. As Peter
Duignan succinctly states, ...the United States, thanks to immigration, has a growing population.
Immigrant labor, moreover, keeps prices, supplies, and services available and cheap ( Immigrants
and America, February 2004). Having a large pool of workers is always a good thing, both for
keeping costs low and for encouraging competition in the market. Many current laws also bring
about moral issues, like the underlying racism found in several infamous laws and the countless
number of families being torn apart through deportation. Economists, politicians, and government
officials all support immigration for these three basic reasons.
By easing the process of naturalization for undocumented immigrants, several fiscal disadvantages
can be avoided. One simple effect is the decrease in deportation rates (Duignan, et al., Immigrants
and America ). Logically, Duignan explains that when naturalization is made simpler, fewer
immigrants remain undocumented in the long run. The cost of deporting immigrants is a heavy
weight on the American fiscal system, ranging from thirty to over sixty billion dollars per year,
spent on identifying illegal aliens,

Summary Of Western Women In High Noon
Woman played a crucial role in the building blocks of the western mystique but they were often
excluded from the mystique. Their role as homemakers and guardians of morals and culture on the
frontier is undeniable, and female pioneers lives were not as dramatic as the western males.
Understandably, pioneer women also faced loneliness and despair more frequently than men did,
and their mortality rate was higher due to the fact they had more boundaries and limitations.
Woman focused on relationships and maintaining stability during a crisis. Which was far different
from a male point of focus. Although both High Noonby Fred Zinnemannand Madonna of the
Prairie by William Koerner convey the Western life of a pioneer woman, Director Fred Zinnemann
depicts a western woman who breaks away from western morals and values to do the right thing,
whereas Artist William Koerner depicts an authentic pioneer woman who stays within her morals as
a western woman.
In the film High Noon by Fred Zinnemann, Will Kane finds himself personally compelled to duel
his enemy Frank Miller when he realizes the townspeople of Hadleyville turned cowardly when the
time came for a showdown. Will Kane and Frank miller and his bandits duel with their guns outside

The Central Nervous System Cns
Impulses are transmitted from one neuron to the next through chemical and electrical conduction.
Presynaptic neurons conduct impulses toward the synapse while postsynaptic neurons conduct
away from the synapse. The electric impulse move from the first neuron, along the axon, to the
synapse at the synaptic knobs. Secretion of chemical transmitter into the synaptic nerve depolarizes
the membrane of the subsequent neuron. In its unexcited state, a neuron retains a resting membrane
potential. When the membrane potential is excited, the arrival of an action potentialat the synaptic
knob allows the neurotransmitters released into synaptic cleft to trigger an action potential in the
postsynaptic neuron (McCance Huether, 2014).
The central nervous system CNS is the main control center of the body that receives sensory input,
organizes and synthesizes it then provides instructions for motor output to the rest of the body. It
constitute of the brain and spinal cord. The brain consist of the cerebrum which regulates high level
functioning such as thinking, and the cerebellum which maintains coordination. The midbrain,
pons and medulla are part of the brain stem and they control lower level functioning such as
respiration. The spinal cord joins the body s main receptors, and functions as a channel for sensory
input and motor output.
The peripheral nervous system (PNS) constitute of the cranial and spinal nerves. The PNS provides
the connection between internal or external stimuli

Keynesian Economics For American Fiscal Policy
Pragmatism reactionarily stems from the excesses of its past. The realization in United States
politics that increasing government tax rates would not solve the economic malaise of high
unemployment and rising inflation occurred in the late 1970s. Thus began a movement in the
minority of economic thought suggesting the existence of a prudent alternative to the widely
accepted theory of Keynesian economics for American fiscal policy. Though subtle at first, these
ideas of supply side economics gained traction quickly and reached the national stage with Ronald
Reagans Inaugural address and promise to end the troubles of stagflation and begin the

The crux of Ronald Reagan s economic policy, the tax cuts, paved the road for success in the
improvement of the economy. The promised effect of an increase in federal revenues and
reduction in the cost of capital for America s private sector necessitated the lowering of marginal
tax rates that occurred in Ronald Reagan s first term. The embodiment of these reductions and
much of the credit for the economic rebound of the mid 1980s can be assigned to the Kemp Roth
Tax Cut Act of 1981. Reagan s trickle down economics strategy held underpinnings in his belief that
the nation s wealthiest individuals and captains of industry had been disincentivized to earn more
money from the oppressive tax rates of his predecessors. Accordingly, Kemp Roth cut the top tax
rate from 70% to 50% as recognition of the disproportionate financial capability of the nation s top
earners to reintroduce prosperity. Additionally, Kemp Roth provided benefits to the affluent by
increasing the estate tax exemption from $175,000 to $600,000 and by increasing deductions
therein to further circumvent the re taxation of hereditary wealth. While Reagan entrusted the top
tax bracket with the responsibility of spending these funds as part of his plan to end the prolonged
period of unemployment, Reagan also included provisions in the Kemp Roth Tax Cut that affected
all workers by removing

The Harrr s Case Of Kaspar Hauser
6. Kaspar Hauser In May of 1928, a teenage boy was found wandering the streets of Nuremberg,
Germany, clutching a handwritten note addressed to a captain of a German cavalry regiment.
The note claimed that the boy, Kaspar, had been adopted as an infant by an anonymous person
and raised in near total isolation somewhere near the Bavarian border; the note instructed the
captain to take him in or hang him. The boy was jailed as a vagrant, and appeared to only know
a few scattered Hungarian words and three German phrases I want to be a cavalryman, as my

been raised in an isolated cell by a mysterious man who taught him to repeat those phrases without
understanding what they meant. Numerous caretakers took Kaspar in, only to find him spiteful
and deceitful. He was eventually stabbed in the chest by an unknown person on December 14th,
1833. At the site of his stabbing, police found a purse that contained a note written in mirror
writing, that claimed Kaspar could tell police the killer s identity, and offered clues. The
circumstances of Kaspar s life and death remain suspicious, and to this day no one is sure who he
really was, what his motives were, and whether or not his fatal stab wound was self inflicted.

Composer Gustav Holst. The composition was first premiered in 1920 at the Royal Military

first for a military band. The First Suite has three movements, each with their own form and
character. Movement 1 is called Chaconne . The tempois allegro moderato. The movement is in Вѕ

Police Abuse And The Police
Police brutality occurs when there is an abuse of authority and force by the police towards
civilians. Police abuse is a topic that has been controversial because some argue that police should
use their force while others argue the opposite. One thing that is certain is that police brutality does
occur. Many wonder what leads to policeabuse and a criminological theory that explains it is
Edwin M. Lemerts labeling theory. According to Lemert labelling theory is a theory that argues
that there are two types of deviance which are primary and secondary. These two types of
deviance lead an officer to abuse of their power. A solution to stop police abuse is based on John
Braithwaite s reintegrative shaming theory. Labelling theory is the most... Show more content on

They start with low offenses towards citizens and since they don t seem to be punished for their
acts then they constantly do the same thing and in other cases they commit higher offenses as they
go. They can start with insulting people for no reason and escalate to police brutality since they
never received a punishment to stop their behavior. They want to deflect the focus of what s
going on. And they want to jam up the cop by making a complaint. (Police Foundation) A survey
done to police officers and those in higher ranks believe that citizens just file complaints against
police officers as a way to be seen as a victim rather than an offender. If the authority believes this
then complaints will not be taken seriously therefore police officers will abuse of their power
because they have nothing to lose. They do not get punished and they do not get classified as a
certain type of person. In addition, Lemert introduces secondary deviance by stating that it
occurs when labelling starts happening and the individual or group starts to accept that label as
their identity. (Lemert 1972:251) For instance, there are police officers who are involved with
police brutality and it may have been going on for a long time but it was until very recent that it
has become a serious and delicate issue. Now that almost everyone carries a camera around
(cellphone cameras) it has been easier for citizens to record when an officer is brutally beating

Examples Of Absolute Certainty
Developing an absolute sense of certainty can be good, but it can also be bad. There have been
some instances where people who had absolute certainty met their downfall. Having some doubt
is good. If you have doubt on a an assignment, you can go back and revise it. In a way it s like a
stop sign. Doubt allows you to stop and analyze before going. Although being absolutely certain is
good, it can make you over look mistakes, get your hopes up, and speculation occurs. There have
been many instances where mistakes were overlooked because of absolute certainty. For example,
the RMS Titanic. At the time it was the largest ship in the world and unsinkable. An absolute
masterpiece and everyone thought it was indestructible. Engineers were positive that there wasn t a
single thing wrong with her. Until it and thousands of passengers met their demise once the ship hit
an iceberg. Had the engineers and other workers triple checked the shop, the sinking may not have

Hence it was little bit difficult for them to help within their high schedule. Time is an important
issue in report writing. As I have been given a specific dead Line for submission, observation and
learning all the banking operation within three month and also to prepare the report all along which
is really tough. Relevant data and document collection were difficult due to the organization
confidentiality. Non availability of data in a systematic way. Not enough data of year 2006 was
available as the bank s annual report of 2006 was not published at the time of preparing this report
Lack of fund A study for any purpose requires a minimum amount to the investigator or the
researcher. But in this case the student had to pay for almost all expenses starting from stationary
transportation communication to the printing of the paper. Shortage of written material
In spite of all these limitations I have tried to put the best effort as far as possible.

Assyrian Empire Essay
For a few centuries after the death of Shamshi Adad I, Assyrian cities were subjugated by a
succession of outsiders: Babylonians under Hammurabi, Hittites and Mitanni Hurrians. From 1791
to 1360 A.D. control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or
less stable. After a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke
the power of the Mitanni in the region. Assyriathen began to take control over territories that had
belonged to Mitanni. The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit
stamped out any remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia.
The Middle Empire
King Ashur Uballit, who ruled from c. 1353 to 1318 B.C., succeeded in gathering all former
Mitanni regions under his control. He also battled the Hurrians, Hittites and the Kassite king of
Babylon. Ashur Uballit married his daughter to the Babylonian king, angering the Babylonian
people. They promptly slew the king and replaced him with a pretender to the throne. King Ashur
Uballit then invaded Babylon, killed the pretender and placed another Kassite royal on the throne.
King Ashur Uballit solidified his power by conquering any remaining Hittite or Mitanni rulers,
finally taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Adad Nirari implemented the policy of deportation of segments of the population from one
region to another, which remained a standard Assyrian policy from then on. This policy was meant
to head off any uprisings or rebellions by moving the potentially rebellious to other regions of the
Assyrian empire. Although the deportees found their lives disrupted, the Assyrian intention was not
to harm the people, but to make the best use of their talents where their skills were needed. Families
were moved together along with their belongings and the empire provided transportation and

Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his
poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of
the work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes
pathos to evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the
point of view plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these
aspects of the poem combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything
to find optimism in a time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will
just hurt the person more.
Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses
alliteration to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost
Lenore, (Line 10). This example shows alliteration with the use of imagery and makes the lines
more meaningful. In addition, it conveys Poe s feeling of sadness and depression. He also uses
alliteration to add to the creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). The following verse
from the poem describes the way the character was feeling about the lost of his loved one. From
Dulberg 2 the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore, (Line 11). Through

Analysis Of The Killer Angels By Shaara
War is a complex event. Many different aspect go into the complicated planning of a war from
amount of troops or supplies, layout of land and more. The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara
gives a unquestionable vivid image of the Battle of Gettysburg. In this novel it took place in the
span of three days and gives us the points of views from both the Union and Confederate armies.
Mr. Shaara s historical accuracy is spot on from the innermost thoughts of the characters to the
geographical location and weather descriptions to allow the readers to get a taste of the novel s to
the real life events. Passages like It rained all that night. The next day was Saturday, the Fourth of

The book was historically accurate in all perspectives. This is shown from the location,
characters and the thoughts of them. One thing that was a big part of the entire battle was
loyalty. In many parts of the book loyalty is shown from the generals and commanders. For
example even though Longstreet did not agree with the decisions of Lee he still stayed loyal to
his commander and they army by going in with the plan. Shaara captured the essence of the battle
that I ve never seen before. Honor without intelligence is a disaster. Honor could lose the war.
(p.133). The one thing I really admire about the way the book was written in such of way that you
can change the perspective of the North and South to see how each is reacting to the events going

Surrogacy In Australia Essay
Australian law reforms have been adequately effective in dealing with surrogacy and birthing
technologies. The NSW state reforms have effectively supported the changing values of society by
aiming to achieve justice and avoid conflicts surrounding surrogacy, while the commonwealth is
obsolete on effective laws to prevent surrogacyissues. As the demand for surrogacy and birthing
technologies increases, issues surrounding surrogacy are more prevalent in society. Additionally,
there is no Commonwealth law, meaning each state and territory has developed individual laws of
surrogacy and birthing technologies, allowing for issues and challenges surrounding the protection
and the rights of all parties involved.

Effective law reform such as The Surrogacy Act 2010 (NSW) has greatly improved the
Government responses to issues surrounding Surrogacy. The Act allows for transferral of
parentage from the biological mother to the adoptive parents. This allows non legally binding
donor agreements to be considers and accepted, achieving justice for both parties involved in the
process. By adapting to social values and accepting modern family structure justice is served for
society. When the Surrogacy Act was introduced in March 2011, it becomes illegal to enter a
commercial surrogacy agreement oversea in NSW, QLD, ACT, with penalties of up to $100000
or 2 years imprisonment. These penalties are seen in the worse interest for the child, as the child
could be without their adoptive parents or grow up in economic hardship due to the fines.
Although this is effective as it prohibits commercial surrogacy, as it underlines rights and freedoms
under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), this is mirrored into state legislation to
protect the child involved. This is highlighted under article 35 of CRC, where states should take
measures to prevent sale or trafficking of children for any

The Limitations Of Standardized Testing Essay
The limitations of standardized testing as a rigid and narrow criterion for gauging the educational
capabilities of students in public education. The criterion for standardized testing relies on narrow
areas of knowledge that define a hierarchical imposition of intelligence testing that forces the
student to perform ion a constrained academic environment. This type of testing has become a
mechanized tool to reject the individual needs of the student in a linear testing methodology. The
importance of a more diversified and individual style of educationmust address the talents of the
student in relation to a broader system of education. Therefore, the problem of one size fits all in
standardized testing forces the student to take a test that generalizes educational standards in the
public school system. In essence, an analysis of the individual needs of the student define the
problem of a one size fits all system of standardize testing in modern American school system. The
problem of standardized testing in the American public system is founded on the systemic
generalization of student s intelligence. These tests are often engineered to the student through an
uncreative and linear evaluation of their knowledge base. In this manner, standardized testing only
measures a small range of cognitive and mental capabilities of the student, which often focus on
writing, reading, math, and the sciences: The obsession with raising student standardized testscores

Similarly, Ajuluchukwu 1962 (as cited in Onwuejeogwu, 1991) note that from the inception, the
National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) embarked upon deliberate campaigns of fostering
national consciousness and inspiring a strong sense of militancy in the Nigerian people s liberation
struggle (Aluede, 1995; Babatope, 1974). Babatope (1974) and Onwuejeogwu (1991) note that the
students union was born and nurtured in the womb of colonial protest. Hence student unionism was
more of a protest union rather than student union, which was aimed at far reaching changes in the
society. One incident of student unrest in 1960 was essentially due to students dissatisfaction with
government insensitivity to national issues, and its inability to address them appropriately.
Nigerian students aware of the British government s intention to establish a military base in
Nigeria and by so doing perpetuate a neo colonial state, decided to stage a protest against the

DSM IV TR was published in the year 2000, it was a text revision of previous version DSM IV.
Majority of the specific areas under diagnosis remain unchanged. Some extra information were

contains clinical disorders, second axis contains intellectual disabilities and personality disorders.
The remaining axis covered social, environmental factors etc. Through out the history of the DSM ,
it s authors have debated a number of complex issues, including the theoretical basis of the

For the children Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder has been modified somewhat,
especially to emphasize that this disorder can continue into adulthood. The one change is that
you can be diagnosed with ADHD even when you are an adult .This also weakens the criteria

Rhetoric Techniques In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
The Jungle is a novel written in 1906 by journalist and writer Upton Sinclair. The novel was
written with the purpose of describing the plight of immigrant workers in the meat packing houses
of Chicago. Sinclair s purpose for the novel was to improve the working conditions of the meat
packing industry but; while his efforts resulted in improved meat sanitation standards relief for the
workers themselves would take much longer. To document the conditions of the workers, Sinclair
chooses to narrate the lives and struggles of Jurgis Rudkus, a Lithuanian immigrant and his
extended family. The novel begins in the middle of the storyline with the scene of a lively
wedding celebration in honor of Jurgis and his new young bride Ona. It is in this... Show more

Essay about Audism Unveiled
Audism Unveiled
Audism by it s very definition is a negative or oppressive attitude towards deaf people by either
deaf or hearing people and organizations, and a failure to accommodate them. This documentary
really opened my eyes as to what deaf people have gone through since the beginning of time. They
have been treated with prejudice and oppression. They have been looked down upon as if they are
some sort of subhuman not worthy of being classified as a normal person because of the fact that
they cannot hear. Audism goes under the same category as racism, sexism, discrimination, etc. In
the movie, Audism Unveiled, they were many testimonials of different deaf people explaining their
stories of oppression simply because of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, he is an advocate for parents of deaf children to learn sign language so that no one would
ever have to experience what he had to. I think that all parents with deaf children should embrace
their child and their new culture and learn the language that is most easy for their child to
communicate in. Most deaf children feel lonely and abandoned from their families because no
one ever bothers to include them into family conversations. Whenever the deaf person would ask
what s going on, they would say Oh we ll tell you later. Always the same thing and deaf people are
tired of it. They want to know now and be included! It s not fair that they have to be left out just
because they re deaf. It causes depression and resentment in the deaf person when the family
constantly excludes the deaf family member. In some situations, deafness was viewed as evil. One
man said that his aunt told him that he must have been a bad man in his past life and as
punishment, he was born deaf in this life time. Hearing people do view being deaf as a misfortune,
but that does not justify the way that they get treated by hearing people. I think it s horrible how
they are viewed as unable. I would hate to imagine someone treating me like I m not able because I
m Hispanic or because I m gay. It would tear me apart and I m sure most deaf people feel the same
way. Audism needs to be a bigger issue among hearing people and they need to know that being
deaf is not a handicap, deaf

Summer Break Should Be Taught In School
When summer break finally approaches students want nothing more than to forget about school and
all the responsibilities that come with it. In those three months of no school students stop practicing
what is taught in school and begin to forget the information already learned. Students should be
assigned a summerreading book because it can help students to continue learning and prepare for
the upcoming schoolyear. After the school year is over, students stop learning for the three months
they are on break. The time of constantly learning comes to a sudden halt at the end of the year and
the beginning of the summer. Reading a book over the summer break allows students to still
practice discovering new things and retaining information. They

  • 2. Radiation Fog In California Every winter the Central Valley experiences radiation fog that forms across the area. The Central Valley in California has ideal conditions for radiation fog to form. The valley is between a coastal mountain range on the West Coast and on the east side is where the Sierra Nevada mountains sit (Herckes, et. Al). Due to this topography of this area air masses become stagnant and ventilation of the valley is hindered (Herckes, et. Al). The lack of ventilation in the valley leads to temperature inversions, because of high pressure systems that form of the Great Basin (Herckes, et. Al). This leads to radiation fog forming because of inversion during nights in which a layer of moist air is below a layer of drier air (Ahrens and Sampson 97). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Walmart s 2011 Global Responsibility Report, published last week, makes clear that despite the recession and some recently rough going for the company lately its stock has lagged the S P500 Walmart is pushing ahead towards its big goals: To generate no waste, to be 100 percent powered by renewable energy and to sell lots more products that sustain people and the environment. Yet a closer look at the report demonstrates that there are limits to what any company, even one as vast as Walmart, can do. Most of its environmental gains have come from doing what Walmart has always done very well driving efficiency in its stores and supply chain. When sustainable initiatives cost more money, as they sometimes do, progress has been halting. Still, Walmart deserves at least two cheers, maybe two and half for its efforts, particularly in the current, dispiriting political climate. As Elizabeth Sturcken of the Environmental Defense Fund, which works closely with Walmart, told me: Leadership on environmental issues is coming from Bentonville these days, not from Washington. Some people in Washington want to roll back basic environmental protection on clean air and clean water, saying it s bad for business. Our work with Walmart proves that s not true ... • 4. Black Death THE BLACK DEATH Matthew Brown P.1 April 17, y Around 1339 in northwestern Europe, the population was beginning to outgrow the food supply and a severe economic crisis began to take place. The winters were extremely cold and the summers were dry. Due to this extreme weather, very low crops yielded and those that grew were dying. Inflation became a common occurrence and as famine broke out, people began to worry. The time period of approximately 1339 to 1346 is now known as the famine before the plague (history). These seven bad years of weather and famine lead to the greatest plague of all times. In 1347, endemic to Asia, The Black Death began spreading throughout Western Europe. Over the time of three years, the plague killed one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But there were others they had forgotten...the children. They were by all means frequent receivers of the disease and it killed them almost instantly or within a few hours . The children in plague infested towns had premature exposures which allowed for the disease to affect them physically and mentally. Once infected, the parents of the children would abandon them on the streets instead because many could not bear to watch them die (Science National Geographic). The females who contracted the plague were especially disregarded because they could not carry on the family name for generations to come. The children could not provide for themselves, so they suffered greatly. As the Church lost spiritual authority, the clergy of the Church began leaving. About sixty percent of the clergy abandoned their Christian duties and fled. The monasteries and the clergy suffered the greatest loss (eyewitness). Many of the Churches finest leaders were quitting and some even moved far away to avoid the problems they were facing. Since many head officials were parting, the Church panicked and began aggressively recruiting others to fill the ranks. As the Monks, Nuns, and Friars continued to disappear, the standards for their replacements lowered. This caused the monasteries to be run by less educated people, leading to a decline of vernacular. They knew the townspeople felt that the Church had let them down, because any blow suffered by the Church was also a direct blow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is It Like In The Eye Of A Tornado By Charles Bryant The Eye of a Tornado In the article What is it like in the eye of a tornado? by Charles Bryant, the reader learns about the center of a tornado. According to the American Meteorological Society, a tornado is a violent rotating column of air, in contact with the ground, either pendant from a cumuliform cloud or underneath a cumuliform cloud, and often (but not always) visible as a funnel cloud. Even though a tornadois extremely dangerous, there are two people who have entered the eye and made it out alive. The first man that made it through the tornado, Will Keller, was a farmer. There are ways that aid a business in reaching the levels of success. With the competitive analysis you have five areas that have to be analyzed in order to be competitive. Being able to be competitive within the industry is a key element. Since it is overloaded with larger firms it will be vital to lock in on services that the larger firms find not to be important to success. I feel that one of my secrets will be utilizing my creativity within the marketing, finding lenders, offering that extra care in customer service, and our company s integrity. By staying true to values, will appeal to the general public in positive ways. That is when my company will become a household name. Keeping meeting schedule on a timely basis will allow my company to see where we are at within the month and billing cycles. This will inform us as to which direction we need to improve on. Offering services and property that the larger firms do not feel will benefit their business will be huge steps for the success within my company. Another former intern at Alexander McQueen sued the company recently for exploiting her and making her do art works for embroideries and dyeing fabrics for free. (The Guardian, February 17, 2014) In reality, the very concept of unpaid internship is faulty. To survive in expensive cities like New York or Los Angeles and pay out of your own pocket for food, accommodation and transportation while you work forty hours a week for free is both unrealistic and impractical, unless, of course if you have the financial backing. But that means that fashion internships are just for the rich as a middle class household definitely doesn t have the budget for it. So does this imply that only if you have the money, you get a good internship? A survey by NACE which came in The Wall Street Journal says, 60% of 2012 graduates who worked a paid internship got at least one job offer, while just 37% of those in unpaid gigs got any offers. That s slightly only slightly better than the offer rate for graduates who skipped internships entirely, at 36%. Without a job surety, interns are walking aimlessly knocking on every door to just get in. • 10. Combating Worker Injustices During in the Late 19th Century Workers in the late 19th century were treated unfairly the majority of the time. They worked in unsafe conditions for meager pay. Young children joined the workforce to help support their families. Most of the workers during this period were just thankful to earn a living, so they rarely complained about their working conditions. All of these factors spurred the creation of labor unions during the 19th century. The Knights of Labor, the American Federation of Labor, and the Industrial Workers of the Worldwere just a few of the unions established during this time. The Knights of Labor was founded in 1869 by Uriah S. Stephens. This union grew slowly, but managed to spread more rapidly even during the depression of the 1870s. Some of the working stipulations that this union imposed were elimination of convict labor competition, eight hour workdays, guarantee of salaries, and the use of paper currency. They also wanted equal pay for both men and women, which was a first during those times. A big achievement for the Knights of Labor was keeping children under fourteen out of the workforce. The Preamble to the Constitution of the Knights of Labor stated that, The prohibition of the employment of children in workshops, mines, and factories before attaining their fourteenth year. This allowed children to be children at least until their teenage years, without the worries that adults faced. The American Federation of Labor (AFL) was started in 1886. It was started ... • 12. The Great Awakening And Second Great Awakening Many colonists came to America in order to escape the constraints of the Church of England, but continued to establish colonies that were built on Biblical principles. Due in part to the strictness and intolerance of the Puritan religion and differing beliefs among other religions, church membership began to dwindle and many people in later generations were either excluded from or decided against, joining the church. The Great Awakening and Second Great Awakening, as described by Butler, Wacker, and Stout (2003), were religious movements that emphasized Biblical teachings and the importance of a life changing experience through belief in JesusChrist as well as the importance of spreading that message to others. Through large camp meetings like the Cane RidgeRevival, charismatic preachers brought the good news of salvation through Christ to a multitude of people, many of whom were disillusioned with the social and political climate of the times. This message of hope and morality is needed even more so today, in a world filled with hopelessness, crime, hate and drugs. Of course caution has to be taken to ensure that the emotionalism of present day religionis based on the model of Jesus, who taught sinners in a spirit of love, and not in the method of the religious leaders of Biblical times, who were self righteous and condemning. The Board of Education of Topeka, one must take into account the gravity of the prevailing law and attitude that existed in 1954. In 1896, the Supreme Court established the separate but equal doctrine in the case of Plessy V. Ferguson. Essentially the court was saying that blacks should be treated equally but due to an obvious difference, race, blacks could be treated equally but separate. Justice Henry Brown wrote in his majority opinion; The object of the Fourteenth Amendment was undoubtedly to enforce the absolute equality of the two races before the law, but in the nature of things it could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact a series of cases from Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia and Delaware all found their way to the Supreme Court. But a distinguished attorney with the NAACP named Thurgood Marshall brought Linda Browns case to prominence. By this time, Thurgood Marshall was an experienced Supreme Court advocate. He had already challenged all white primary elections in Smith V. Allwright, and restrictive covenants in Shelley V. Kraemer. His style was straightforward and plainspoken. He held no punches and got to his point without a lot of dramatics. When asked for a definition of the word equal by Justice Felix Frankfurter, Marshall replied, Equal means getting the same thing, at the same time, and in the same place. 2 This was the basis of his case. Chief Justice Earl Warren presided over the case, and on May 17, 1954 decided in Brown s favor. In a brief, unanimous opinion delivered by Warren, the Court declared that; separate education facilities are inherently unequal 3 and that racial segregation violates the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, thus overruling the Plessy case. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overrunning of a project is one of the common reason for project failure, 50% of construction projects overrun1. Planning phase of a project involves allocation of resources and dates with deliverables. A project overrun clearly indicates poor planning in terms of scheduling. During project execution, project activities are subject to considerable uncertainty, new activities may have to be incorporated or activities may have to be dropped. A disrupted schedule incurs higher costs due to missed due dates and deadlines, resource idleness, higher work in process inventory and increased system nervousness due to frequent rescheduling. Cost: This is often the most important factor of project. Well, financing of a project starts from concept phase and cash flow with allocation is done in planning phase, but the execution phase requires maximum efforts in terms of resources and cost. Approximately 63% of all information systems projects encounter substantial budget overrun, with overrun values typically between 40 and 200 percent 2. They believed that God had set up the old order. To protect against the attacks of the Enlightenment, they waged a war of censorship, or restricting access to ideas and information. They banned and burned books and imprisoned writers. To avoid censorship, philosophes and writers like Montesquieu and Voltaire sometimes disguised their ideas in works of fiction. Satire and Humor is a Vital Function of our Society Humor and satire is an entertaining and extremely effective method for highlighting social ideologies, challenging a governmental system or an organization, exposing injustice, and encouraging positive change in perspective. In his book, Status Anxiety, Alain de Botton asserts that humorists are a vital part of society as they are always successful in communicating, conveying, and delivering their message or idea to the public and the community. Humorists and satirists have demonstrated their vital role in inspiring freedom of speech and thought, which motivates progressive changes, in political election campaigns hosted on TV almost daily, and in Mark Twain s satire of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. If you were Bob Turley, what might you have done differently during the attack? Normally, a company would follow emergency procedures while dealing with crises, but in iPremier s case, there was no emergency procedure available. Under these circumstances, and with no prior experience with security breaches, I believe the company performed well. Bob Turley communicated well with the other members of the company, but if I were in his shoes, I would have been more conservative and acted faster. They had an outdated emergency manual that employees couldn t find, and almost couldn t access the data center. Now the attack has ended, what can the iPremier Company do to prepare for another such attack? While I mentioned revising the emergency procedure in the previous question, there are other ways to prepare as well. iPremier could implement a method to escalate unsatisfactory service from Qdata to higher level management; if they switch to a data center with open lines of communication, the next crisis would be easier to handle, or it might even be completely averted. 4. In the aftermath of the attack, what would you be worried about? What actions would you recommend? I would be worried about three issues, including the identity and motivation of the hacker, the amount of data that was taken from iPremier, and public disclosure. Since Bob didn t pull the plug, there is a log documenting what happened during the attack I would start by analyzing the log and trying to solve the first two issues. Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic framework of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It enables interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence stratigraphy uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the depositional settings of the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of the extent and character of the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally designed for seismic sections, but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It now provides a powerful method and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects. The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977). And it is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). Presynaptic neurons conduct impulses toward the synapse while postsynaptic neurons conduct away from the synapse. Secretion of chemical transmitter into the synaptic nerve depolarizes the membrane of the subsequent neuron. In its unexcited state, a neuron retains a resting membrane potential. The promised effect of an increase in federal revenues and reduction in the cost of capital for America s private sector necessitated the lowering of marginal tax rates that occurred in Ronald Reagan s first term. The embodiment of these reductions and much of the credit for the economic rebound of the mid 1980s can be assigned to the Kemp Roth Tax Cut Act of 1981. Reagan s trickle down economics strategy held underpinnings in his belief that the nation s wealthiest individuals and captains of industry had been disincentivized to earn more money from the oppressive tax rates of his predecessors. Accordingly, Kemp Roth cut the top tax rate from 70% to 50% as recognition of the disproportionate financial capability of the nation s top earners to reintroduce prosperity. Additionally, Kemp Roth provided benefits to the affluent by increasing the estate tax exemption from $175,000 to $600,000 and by increasing deductions therein to further circumvent the re taxation of hereditary wealth. The note claimed that the boy, Kaspar, had been adopted as an infant by an anonymous person and raised in near total isolation somewhere near the Bavarian border; the note instructed the captain to take him in or hang him. The boy was jailed as a vagrant, and appeared to only know a few scattered Hungarian words and three German phrases I want to be a cavalryman, as my father was , Horse! Horse! and Don t know . He gradually learned to speak, and claimed he had been raised in an isolated cell by a mysterious man who taught him to repeat those phrases without understanding what they meant. Numerous caretakers took Kaspar in, only to find him spiteful and deceitful. He was eventually stabbed in the chest by an unknown person on December 14th, 1833. At the site of his stabbing, police found a purse that contained a note written in mirror writing, that claimed Kaspar could tell police the killer s identity, and offered clues. The circumstances of Kaspar s life and death remain suspicious, and to this day no one is sure who he really was, what his motives were, and whether or not his fatal stab wound was self inflicted. source:https://www.theguardian.com/world/2011/ ... forest boy 7. • 40. Fall Concert Analysis On November 16th, 2017 I attended the Riverview High School Kiltie Band s Fall Concert at Riverview High School at 7:00pm and there were about 200 people in attendance. The Wind Ensemble started by playing First Suite in E Flat for Military Band, Op. 28, No.1 by British Composer Gustav Holst. The composition was first premiered in 1920 at the Royal Military School of Music, but the manuscript was first completed in 1909. This composition was Holst s first for a military band. The First Suite has three movements, each with their own form and character. Movement 1 is called Chaconne . The tempois allegro moderato. The movement is in Вѕ time with and eight bar melody initiated by low brass. The melody repeats 16 times throughout Chaconne . The brass and percussion outline the theme and the whole passage is marked brilliante. There are combinations of solo instruments including a solo horn, duet between flute and oboe, and a solo alto saxophone. The section eventually develops into a minor key. Movement 2: Intermezzo has a vivace tempo, which is lively and fast. All of this movement is dedicated to a rhythmic oboe, clarinetand cornet solo. The movement is light in character and an instrument called the euphonium brings us back to the first theme. The second theme is then played in a major key. Movement 3: March is played at a march tempo, which is played at a consistent and regular rhythm for people to march to. This movement opens with a bass drum solo that is very ... • 41. Police Abuse And The Police Police brutality occurs when there is an abuse of authority and force by the police towards civilians. Police abuse is a topic that has been controversial because some argue that police should use their force while others argue the opposite. One thing that is certain is that police brutality does occur. Many wonder what leads to policeabuse and a criminological theory that explains it is Edwin M. Lemerts labeling theory. According to Lemert labelling theory is a theory that argues that there are two types of deviance which are primary and secondary. These two types of deviance lead an officer to abuse of their power. A solution to stop police abuse is based on John Braithwaite s reintegrative shaming theory. Labelling theory is the most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They start with low offenses towards citizens and since they don t seem to be punished for their acts then they constantly do the same thing and in other cases they commit higher offenses as they go. They can start with insulting people for no reason and escalate to police brutality since they never received a punishment to stop their behavior. They want to deflect the focus of what s going on. And they want to jam up the cop by making a complaint. (Police Foundation) A survey done to police officers and those in higher ranks believe that citizens just file complaints against police officers as a way to be seen as a victim rather than an offender. If the authority believes this then complaints will not be taken seriously therefore police officers will abuse of their power because they have nothing to lose. They do not get punished and they do not get classified as a certain type of person. In addition, Lemert introduces secondary deviance by stating that it occurs when labelling starts happening and the individual or group starts to accept that label as their identity. (Lemert 1972:251) For instance, there are police officers who are involved with police brutality and it may have been going on for a long time but it was until very recent that it has become a serious and delicate issue. Now that almost everyone carries a camera around (cellphone cameras) it has been easier for citizens to record when an officer is brutally beating someone. A key factor in ... There have been some instances where people who had absolute certainty met their downfall. Having some doubt is good. If you have doubt on a an assignment, you can go back and revise it. In a way it s like a stop sign. Doubt allows you to stop and analyze before going. Although being absolutely certain is good, it can make you over look mistakes, get your hopes up, and speculation occurs. There have been many instances where mistakes were overlooked because of absolute certainty. For example, the RMS Titanic. At the time it was the largest ship in the world and unsinkable. An absolute masterpiece and everyone thought it was indestructible. Engineers were positive that there wasn t a single thing wrong with her. Until it and thousands of passengers met their demise once the ship hit an iceberg. Had the engineers and other workers triple checked the shop, the sinking may not have happened. • 44. Assyrian Empire Essay For a few centuries after the death of Shamshi Adad I, Assyrian cities were subjugated by a succession of outsiders: Babylonians under Hammurabi, Hittites and Mitanni Hurrians. From 1791 to 1360 A.D. control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or less stable. After a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke the power of the Mitanni in the region. Assyriathen began to take control over territories that had belonged to Mitanni. The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit stamped out any remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia. The Middle Empire King Ashur Uballit, who ruled from c. 1353 to 1318 B.C., succeeded in gathering all former Mitanni regions under his control. He also battled the Hurrians, Hittites and the Kassite king of Babylon. Ashur Uballit married his daughter to the Babylonian king, angering the Babylonian people. They promptly slew the king and replaced him with a pretender to the throne. King Ashur Uballit then invaded Babylon, killed the pretender and placed another Kassite royal on the throne. • 45. Literary Devices In Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven Self Torture Edgar Allen Poe utilizes various literary devices in order to create a dark tone in his poem, The Raven. Poe s use of alliteration and repetition are instrumental to the melodic nature of the work, as well as providing a rather visual representation of his gothic setting. He also utilizes pathos to evoke a response from the reader through emotions (fear, desire, etc.) In addition, the point of view plays a key role in this poem, but its reliability may be questioned. All of these aspects of the poem combine to show the human need to torture oneself and to try to do anything to find optimism in a time of grief and denial. In reality, this way of coping isn t effective and will just hurt the person more. Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds in the beginning of a sentence. Poe uses alliteration to add tension within the poem. From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost Lenore, (Line 10). This example shows alliteration with the use of imagery and makes the lines more meaningful. In addition, it conveys Poe s feeling of sadness and depression. He also uses alliteration to add to the creepy, entrancing mood of the poem as seen in the following example, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before, (Line 26). The following verse from the poem describes the way the character was feeling about the lost of his loved one. From Dulberg 2 the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore, (Line 11). • 48. The Limitations Of Standardized Testing Essay The limitations of standardized testing as a rigid and narrow criterion for gauging the educational capabilities of students in public education. The criterion for standardized testing relies on narrow areas of knowledge that define a hierarchical imposition of intelligence testing that forces the student to perform ion a constrained academic environment. This type of testing has become a mechanized tool to reject the individual needs of the student in a linear testing methodology. The importance of a more diversified and individual style of educationmust address the talents of the student in relation to a broader system of education. Therefore, the problem of one size fits all in standardized testing forces the student to take a test that generalizes educational standards in the public school system. In essence, an analysis of the individual needs of the student define the problem of a one size fits all system of standardize testing in modern American school system. The problem of standardized testing in the American public system is founded on the systemic generalization of student s intelligence. These tests are often engineered to the student through an uncreative and linear evaluation of their knowledge base. In this manner, standardized testing only measures a small range of cognitive and mental capabilities of the student, which often focus on writing, reading, math, and the sciences: The obsession with raising student standardized testscores is leading ... Most deaf children feel lonely and abandoned from their families because no one ever bothers to include them into family conversations. Whenever the deaf person would ask what s going on, they would say Oh we ll tell you later. Always the same thing and deaf people are tired of it. They want to know now and be included! It s not fair that they have to be left out just because they re deaf. It causes depression and resentment in the deaf person when the family constantly excludes the deaf family member.
