Why Is It Important To Take Naps
1. I would tell the parents to tell the child why a nap is important for him. I would tell him that
when he takes naps he will have more energy to play and run around. Another thing they could
do it go in and read a story to him to help him fall asleep. Another good tip is to put on nap time
music, that always helps the children at the daycare fall asleep faster. The last thing I would
suggest is to rock your child yo sleep. Not in a ricking chair or anything, but to sit by their bed
and gently rock their body back and forth or rub the child s back. This is what we do at the
daycare to get all the children asleep. 2. I hated taking naps. My stepmom had us take naps until
we were pretty old, from what I can remember. In the end we probably

Daily Trojan Pros And Cons
The Daily Trojan is a student newspaper from the University of Southern California, which has been
continuously recognized for providing a free space for students to discuss and explore responsible
intellectual conversations about the USC community. This newspaper gives students a medium to
express their thoughts through writing and informing the student population of rising issues at the
school. The issue that I focus on in my editorial called Transfer Students, Who? is the lack of
integration that the USC transfer student population is having with transitioning into USC, which
can be alleviated through the development of a transfer student center. One of the main reasons that
the editorial starts off with presenting the statistics of transfer

Drinking Alcoholic Beverages
DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol, commonly known as alcohol. Alcoholic
beverages are divided into three general classes: beers, wines, and spirits (or distilled beverage).
They are legally consumed in most countries, and over 100 countries have laws regulating their
production, sale, and consumption.[1] In particular, such laws specify the minimum age at which a
person may legally buy or drink them. This minimum age varies between 16 and 25 years,
depending upon the country and the type of drink. Most nations set it at 18 years of age.[1]
The production and consumption of alcohol occurs in most cultures of the world, from hunter
gatherer peoples to nation states.[2][3] Alcoholic beverages ... Show more content on

However, there are some controversies regarding this definition mainly because the large number of
chemical substances reported in chemistry literature need to be indexed.
Isomerism caused much consternation to early researchers, since isomers have exact the same
composition, but differ in configuration (arrangement) of the atoms. For example, there was much
speculation for the chemical identity of benzene, until the correct structure was described by
Friedrich August KekulГ©. Likewise, the idea of stereoisomerism that atoms have rigid three
dimensional structure and can thus form isomers that differ only in their three dimensional
arrangement was another crucial step in understanding the concept of distinct chemical substances.
For example, tartaric acid has three distinct isomers, a pair of diastereomers with one diastereomer
forming two enantiomers. chemical is a form of matter that has constant chemical composition and
characteristic properties.[1] It cannot be separated into components by physical separation

My Favorite Movies
Whenever I was dealing with any stress or problems, I would go to the movie theatre and sit
down and immerse myself in a two hour long film. And all of a sudden all my problems were not
an issue. It s like if the smell of fresh popcorn, sweet candy, and thirst quenching soda was a
doctor s recommendation. The sound of crowds waiting eager to see an upcoming flick they ve
been anxious about pleased my ears; this atmosphere of innocence and joy caused me to make
this theatre my safe haven. I always found it fascinating how long it takes for movies to be
made, so at the end of every movie I had an itch that said you can do that too. Then after
watching an abundance of movies I finally scratched what I had felt. It was the beginning itch to
become a filmmaker. This was in my 8th grade year and I initially thought this must be a phase,
because my mom said so. At the time I had no equipment ,no knowledge of how cameras or
editing actually work, so maybe my mom was right, maybe it was all phase. Like I had said
going to the movies was almost like a routine. Most of the movies I watched were made with
computer generated imagery, green screens, or a budget so big it made your jaw drop. However
this caused me to think how were movies made twenty or even thirty years ago. This began the
love of watching 80 s movies. E.T. , Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future, sparked the thought I
don t need high budgets to make memorable movies. Yet, it wasn t till watching a filmmade in 1986

Attribution of Intentionality and Theory of Mind in...
The ability of understanding intentions of others is very important for social development of
children (Feinfield, Lee, Flavell, Green, Flavell, 1999). By means of understanding intentions
children can make sense of that people and animates are different from objects (Feinfield, et al.,
1999). According to Shantz (1983), this ability is the requisite to understand moralityand
responsibility. To understand plans and planning we also need to have the ability of understanding
intentions (Feinfield, et al., 1999). In addition, Feinfield and colleagues stated that acquiring the
ability of understanding intentions of others is also important for the cognitive development of the
children such as theory of mind (ToM) that is the understanding... Show more content on

First of all, the question when children begin to acquire the ability of understanding the intentions
was studied to determine the developmental trajectory of this ability. According to Piaget, children
started to reflect an understanding of intentions in behavior over the age of 7 years of age (Kelly,
2011). However, more recent studies showed that children could have this understanding earlier.
One of these studies was conducted by Carpenter, Akhtar and Tomasello in 1998. The participants
of the study by Carpenter and her colleagues (1998) are 20 infants aged 14 18 months. In the study,
infants are measured with an implicit measure in which they observed an adult that exhibit two
actions on objects with one of the discriminative cues that was saying either Woops! that refers to
accidental actions or There! that refers to intentional ones. There were three conditions: an
intentional action followed by an accidental one (I A condition), an accidental action followed by
an intentional one (A I condition) and also two intentional actions (I I condition). Each infant
participated in each condition twice. It was hypothesis that infants as young as 14 months would
preferably imitate intentional actions over accidental ones. According to the results, children as
young as 14 18 months of age showed the ability to differentially imitate and distinguish the
intentional actions from accidental ones (Carpenter, et al.,

Module 3 Research Certification Essay Essay
Subject: Module 3 Research Certification Essay In order to maintain well organized and managed
processes, every organization will need to implement some form of inspection methods or adhere
to inspections set forth by overarching authorities. For airports serving, or intending to serve, air
carrier operations, the Federal Aviation administration s (FAA) Regulations 14 CFR Part 139
defines specific policies, activities, and standards for airfield operations management that are
required for compliance (Wells Young, 2011). In addition, the FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 150
/5200 18C provides information to airportoperators on airport self inspection programs and
identifies items that airport operators should include in such a program (U.S. Department of
Transportation, 2004). Using these two references, applicable airports are equipped to conduct self
inspections, which are vital to ensuring safe operations and compliance with stated requirements.
The U.S. Government Publishing Office details the FAA 14 CFR Part 139 on its website, which
spells out the frequency that the airport must be inspected. It provides that this should be done
daily, except as otherwise required by the Airport Certification Manual, when required by any
unusual condition, such as construction activities or meteorological conditions, that may affect safe
air carrier operations, and immediately after an accident or incident (U.S. Government Publishing
Office, 2016). In essence, the airport will be

The Ethical Theory Of Ethical Theories Essay
Ethical theories are concepts or moral values that dictate whether choices are right or wrong. The
two ethical theories that are the most prominent in society are Utilitarianism and Deontology.
Utilitarianism is a theory that judges the value of the action as good or bad based on the
consequences of the deed, while Deontology believes the motive of the act is more important.
When determining the value of the decisions, the variables are based on the guidelines of each
ethical theory. This includes providing the basis of how to make logical decisions founded on
ethical reasoning. Unfortunately, there are many situations where individual s rights are threatened
due to unethical and unmoral situations like sexual harassment in the workplace. To prevent similar
situations from occurring, individuals must be able to fully understand when to apply the use of
ethicsto decision making. For this type of mindset to take place, the public needs to be educated on
the different types of ethical ideologies, and know how to approach situations based on ethical
solutions. Once the public is aware of the ethical theories and how to avoid unethical situations,
there will a decreased amount of sexual harassment in the workplace. Utilitarianism, also known as
consequentialism, is a theory where actions are considered good or bad depending on the
consequences of the actions, not the motives. In Utilitarianism, the main goal of the theory is to
maximize the most amount of good for all people.

Effects Of The Superpacs Is Something Americans Are...
Research Paper Political Science
The effects of the SuperPACs is something Americans are hearing more and more about in the
2016 campaign. Do Americans have a good understanding of what SuperPACs are and how they
can affect the Presidential election.? This is something that needs to be discussed. As Americans,
don t we have the right to know who is financing the elections? These are only a few of the
questions many people should be asking themselves.
The history of the government attempting to reform or suppress candidate donations for the office
of presidency goes further back than you may think. In 1971, Congress passed the Federal
Elections Campaign Act (FECA). This was important because it was to set limits on the amount of
money campaigns could spend on advertisement and mandated the reporting of the source of funds
to the federal government (Magleby, Light, Nemacheck, 2015, p. 249). According to Magleby, after
the major scandal of Watergate, Congress made stricter laws regarding limitations on spending and
contributions of the candidates. Congress created the Federal Elections Commission (FEC);
accordingly, the responsibilities of the FEC are to inforce the laws set forth by the FECA.
Next, in 2002, Congress passed the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA), while President
George W. Bushheld office (Magleby, Light, Nemacheck, 2015, p. 250). The BCRA bill was
extremely important because individuals were the focal point of campaign contributions along with

When we are introduced to Wang Lung in the beginning of the novel, he owns an average sized
amount of land already in his possession, the same land that his father had farmed in his own
time. However, as he becomes more successful later in his life, the farmer begins to purchase
more land from the House of Hwang and from other farmers in his area. In comparison to others,
Wang Lung considers his land to have rich soil and be perfect for farming, a prime example
presented when he contrasts his own land to his uncle s, which he describes to have soil like
lime (Page 52) because of his uncle s careless farming techniques. With his great wealth, Wang

Personality Big Five Model Solved Case
TEAM ASSIGNMENT #1: Case Study Astral Marketing 42.211 B
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The main problem Astral Marketing is experiencing is a low level of
productivity, mainly due to employee dissatisfaction and low levels of employee motivation.
Employees are currently unhappy with wages and incentives, as well as general working conditions
at the company. As a result, employees are becoming unmotivated. Issues such as poor
communication skills, lack of employee empowerment, high turnover, and too low or too high
mental stimulation also have a direct impact on the low level of productivity (Robbins Langton
2001) The four potential solutions to Astral Marketing s low productivity include: the formation of
a union, team building training, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Procedural justice the perceived fairness of the process used to determine the distribution of
rewards is also defied by the company (Robbins Langton 2001, p. 170). Company records show
only one or two workers per week (have gotten) the $20 bonus over the past six months
(Schweitzer, p.3). The concept of procedural justice is also challenged through inequitable
contract distribution (assuming it can be regulated) at the company. Since the contracts are of
broad range, some contracts are more difficult to promote than others are, and the set wages and
bonuses do not reflect this inequality (Schweitzer 2002). Another issue is poor communication
skills, which result in both a lack of respect for supervisors and a poor level of colleague support.
Having friendly and supportive co workers leads to increased job satisfaction , similar to the
behaviour of one s manager (Robbins Langton 2001, p.108). The employees at Astral Marketing,
however, have poor relations with their supervisors, likely because the supervisors are not trained
on how to deal with workers as people (Schweitzer 2002, p.1). There are also poor relations
between employees due to a lack of support and understanding (Schweitzer 2002). Poor
communication skills also contribute to the lack of employee empowerment
at Astral Marketing. Empowerment, or giving employees responsibility for what

Dangers Of Teen Pregnancy
Pregnancy and sex based diseases have become an unfortunate reality for teens in our society.
Sexually active teens as young as 13 years old are contracting harmful and dangerous diseases that
threaten their lives. Staggering amounts of teenagers, around three million, have unprotected sex,
from which they unfortunately contract STDs (Besharov 1). While some teenagers do not know
the dangers of unprotected sex, such as STDs, others just choose to ignore them (Basso 125). Teen
pregnancyis also very prevalent all over the world. Even though teen pregnancy rates in the
United States are at a low, teens that are not educated in safe sex are still at risk of becoming
pregnant. Some teens are even getting pregnant, just so they do not lose their boyfriend, or for
attention. While children are wonderful, many teens are not mentally and/or physically prepared
for children so young. For many people, it is believed that many teens are pressured to have unsafe
and dangerous intercourse by the media. Although some teens (13 19) have unprotected sex early
on purpose, many are influenced by sex based commercials and advertisements because of lack of
contraceptive ads, parental control, and sexual content in movies and TV show. While some teens
choose to have unprotected copulation, or intercourse, many are not aware of the dangers because
of lack of contraceptive advertising. On primetime TV, an abundant amount of sexual content,
without contraceptive ads, can be found. Commercials on

Persuasive Essay About Censorship
For everything that needs to be said there are always these things that never should be (Witherbee).
This statement has rung true for many generations and for many reasons. Censorship helps solve
this problem within T.V. shows, art, media, internet, and advertisements. In the world today people
are easily offended and some people use information to their advantage. Despite what some people
might believe, there are people in America that can use uncensored information to hinder the
productivity of the country to benefit themselves or another country. Censorshipis necessary to
protect different groups and people. However, some things are unnecessarily censored such as
books. Books are the best educator because authors usually have something more to say than the
words on the page say. There are certain groups such as the Parents Against Bad Books in
Schools who only see the words and meanings that are on the page (Parents Against Bad Books
in Schools). For example, the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was banned from certain
schools because it said the word nigger in it (Witherbee). If the reader would have read the book s
entirety one would have discovered the anti slavery tone the book possesses. Books teach lessons
and they show readers that problems either need to be fixed or one needs to come up with a better
solution. Books can be a great way to introduce children to real world situations without putting
them in stressful or unstable situations.

Women In The Chronicles Of Narnia
In C. S. Lewis s children s books The Chronicles of Narnia, Lewis s misogynistic views of women
are brought to the reader s attention. One can clearly see that regardless of a women s ethnicity,
class, age, and social upbringing, gender is the most important characteristic to Lewis. Throughout
The Chronicles of Narnia, Susan and Lucy Pevensie, Jill Pole, and Aravis are put down by Lewis
for their genderin different ways. Lewis demonstrates his belief that women are meant to be

Rainforests around the world were once the most popular and most talked about parts of

caused by deforestation is well known and right now it seems as if the effects are to an extent
ignored. It is averaged that every second, 1 and a half acres of rainforest land is cut down. It is
said that a great amount of the undiscovered plants and animals will not have a chance at being

trying? On the other hand another way of thinking about it is just how bad would the world be
without that money helping out? The government donates money to the charities from us, the
taxpayer and for many people they like to know where their money is going. Many charities are
involved in improving the lives of people around the globe. There are, however always lots of
cynical people who knock charities especially if the money is not spent in our country, believing
that charity begins at home . Many charities in the United Kingdom do help the local people from
homelessness to cancer relief, but recently international aid helping others in different countries is
one of the most hotly debated areas in the voluntary sector.
The aid agencies actions and their attachment or lack of it from governments are all under scrutiny.
International aid agencies attract more donations than any other charitable cause bringing in ВЈ486
million in 2001 02. This beats donations for cancer, children and animal charities.
So how do charities use their money? Charities usually need money for three things. Firstly, the

The Moral Standards Of Professional Athletes
There is a lot of controversy regarding the moral standards of professional athletes. Some think
that they deserve the same treatment as any other person while others feel they should be placed
under higher moral standards. The bottom line is that athletes are under constant watch of fans
and media and are role models for the youth in our society, thus they need to be moral leaders as
much as they are sports role models. This means that they are to be placed under higher moral
standards. Being a professional athlete is like any other job, they choose this career. It is not
available to everybody so it is a privilege for those who qualify, therefore they get the
responsibility that comes with the job title. There is no doubt that sports are one of the biggest
aspects of a young child s life. It is readily available to them and is entertaining. A lot of young
people have their favorite player, or their favorite team and are constantly watching and following
their lead. They are trying to step up into the shoes of their role model and become as good as
their hero. This means that the athlete must set the correct path for the young people to follow.
They must be set the right moral guidelines. Kids are going to grow up and try to be just like these
athletes and it is the responsibility of that athlete to give them the correct image to strive for.

Torture in Guantanamo Bay Mohamed al Kahtani was a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay who

The Pike River Coal Mine
INTRODUCTION
The definition of a project is a complex one time effort which is limited by time, budget and
resources in order to complete certain objectives. If these characteristics are not met it results in
project management failure. An example of this is the Pike River Coal Mine tragedy which
occurred on November 19th 2010 which is located on the West Coast of New Zealand, where a
series of methane explosions happened resulting in the loss of 29 men s lives and 2 survivors
walking away from the explosions. This report will look into the project management failures which
occurred at the Pike River Coal Mine such as not completing objectives by certain deadlines which
then would lead to going over the financial budget and how the overall management of the project
could have been improved to decrease these failures. Also throughout the Pike River Coal mine
project it highlighted serval issues which may occur when dealing with the management of the
people whether it being individuals or team. This report will look at the theories of motivation and
communication and see how these theories helped contribute to the Pike River tragedy.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT FAILURE
TIME FRAME
As mentioned above an example of project management failure that occurred at the Pike River
Coal Mine was not being able to complete objectives by a certain deadline. This is shown by
having an initial prediction of the mine having an annual coal production of more than one million
tonnes to be produced

Twyla and Roberta´s Friendship in Toni Morrison’s...
The whirlwind relationship of Twyla Roberta. Friendships tend to change over time, for better or
worse. This is illustrated in Toni Morrison s short story Recititaf. The relationships of Twyla and
Roberta are a rollercoaster from the moment they meet at the orphanage, to their confrontational
meetingat the Howard Johnsons, to the picketing during segregation, until the end when they try
and sort things out. One of the ways to show the rocky relationship of the two is through their
dialog when they discuss their mothers. The best place to start is at the beginning, at the start of the
story, when the two girls are first put into the shelter. Twyla... Show more content on

fine, pretty as a picture, to reflect Roberta s unwillingness to open up. On the next meeting,
farther into their lives, Roberta actually calls out to Twyla in a grocery checkout line. When they
begin to talk, Roberta asks if her Twyla s mother is sick as well, meaning that what she said last
time they met isn t correct, that she was still sick. They begin to reminisce, remembering how
Roberta s mother had the cross like two telephone poles, a much less elegant description of how
Twyla originally stated earlier, realizing it wasn t necessarily salvation for her. As the
conversation continues, she asks again about her mother, asking if she got well, which she never

notices Roberta picketing with a sign larger than her mother s cross. Insinuating that she s

friendship. They begin arguing over whether or not when the bow legged servant Maggie fell

Animals Are Endangered From The Wild Animals
Birds are beautiful in the wild, and they re incredibly cute, but they are not good pets because
they require so much care. Parrots taken from the wild aren t meant to be kept in cages. Birds that
are born to caged birds are still only one or two generations from being tamed. They re not
domesticated pets. The practices that are used to catch birds and bring them to your home are
abusive and cruel too.
Responsibility for a Parrot
Parrots are a huge responsibility. They require even more care than other pets like cats and dogs.
They are more complex creatures than dogs or cats too. Scientists have explained that parrots have
the emotional maturity of 4 year old human children. They feel emotions and have emotional
demands that people don t often understand. Since we humans don t understand their emotional
needs, we re not able to meet them, which makes for parrots with emotional problems.
Shipping and Treatment
The wild bird trade is worth billions of dollars, and the people who poach birds from the wild don
t do so humanely. Many birds are traumatized or killed during the process. They re ripped from
their homes, mates and flock with little regard for their emotional well being. Birds fly together,
share their homes and raise their young together. When one bird is taken, the life of that bird
changes as well as the entire flock that had been living together.

Home Oxygen Unit
What You Should Know About Using Oxygen At Home
If you have a chronic respiratory disease such as emphysema, you may eventually need to wear
oxygen so you can breathe more easily. A respiratory therapist or other healthcare professional
will set up the equipment you need and teach you how to care for it. You will probably have a big
unit for your home and a small portable unit for when you leave the house. Here is some
information you need to know.
Home Oxygen Units
Your doctor will prescribe the type of oxygen unit you ll need. There s a choice between liquid
oxygen and an oxygen concentrator. Concentrators are a common choice because they are easy to

These store oxygen and do not need power to operate. A cylinder has a meter on top that let you
know how much oxygen is in the tank. You always want to keep track of the amount of oxygen
you have left, so you can have the tank switched out before it gets too low.
Using Home Oxygen
Oxygen is a drug, and you need a doctor s order to buy it from a medical supply company for
your home. Your doctor also prescribes the amount of oxygen you are to use. It s important you
don t change the setting when you get short of breath unless your doctor has told you it s okay to
do so. It s also important to keep wearing your oxygen even when you feel better if you re
supposed to wear it all the time. Your doctor may tell you to wear the oxygen at all times, just at
night, or only when you feel short of breath.
Oxygen can be annoying to wear. The part that fits in your nose is uncomfortable until you get
used to it. It might make your nose sore. Oxygen is also very dry so you may develop a dry
mouth and throat unless you use a humidifier on the concentrator. If you have problems like this,
consult your doctor or respiratory therapist for a solution rather than leaving your oxygen

Land Ownership In Colonial England
In England, land ownership distinguished one s status in society. Upon arrival in the New World,
Englishmen sought out to acquire land in an attempt to improve their wealth and social class. For
Native Americans, land was central to their religious and everyday practices. When the colonists
arrived, they viewed the Indians as primitive and unholy. They believed the Native Americans
were incapable of controlling the land. Feeling justified, Englishmen systematically seized great
amounts of fertile land by leveraging written word and religion to undermine the Indians into
giving up their property. Colonists were disdainful of the native americans, who inhabited large
territories. The first interactions between the Natives and the English led men like William
Simonds to state, we found only scattered people, ignorant of knowledge of gold, silver, or any
commodities (46). The Indians were people who the colonists deemed, idle workers (48), people
who were incapable of maintaining the abundant lands. As a result, many colonists including Sir
William Herbert warned: Colonies degenerate assuredly when the colonists imitate and embrace the
habits, customs, and practices of the natives. (46). The colonists believed that they were deserving
of the land because they had the capabilities of exploiting it to its fullest potential. They despised
the primitive ways of the Natives, believing that they had full rights to all Native land. From the

Motivation in The Shawshank Redemption
What is motivation? As manager s, motivation is one of the most vital and crucial assets to
possess in managing a business. This drive is a critical tool to use in the work place and determine
the success or failure of an organization. Motivation is a driving force that initiates and directs
behavior. In other words, motivation is an internal energy that drives an individual to do something
in order to achieve a certain goal. Therefore, creating a motivating environment in the workplace
will lead to happy employees. Creating a work environment like this, managers can expect low staff
turnovers, improved productivity, happy customers, and better financial performance. Therefore,
the input of motivation use towards employees determines the output efficiency of the company.
However, everyone involved in an organization is motivated differently. Everybody has their own
individual needs in regards to motivation. Depending on how motivated a person is, determines the
effort that individual puts into the work and therefore, how productive they are.
The biggest problem to a manager is managing employees. This is because employers often do not
know how to handle their employees. An effective manager knows that motivation is a difficult

The Issue of Poverty As a Whole in Pakistan
Poverty and suffering is considered not out of the norm for many families in Pakistan. Many of
them have had to make enormous sacrifices in order to survive in these hard times. As seen in
the previous paragraph children who are to sacrifice their education to help the family during
times of poverty, may never really be able to receive an education later. For most families that are
in the same situation like Rafiq and his family, the basic necessities such as food and water that
others take for granted are now considered the highest priority in their lives. Though native born
families are the ones who suffer the most in poverty in Pakistan, there are also outsiders who suffer
just as much. One example is the children of Afghan refugees from Afghanistan. During the Afghan
War, many families in that region have been separated or killed during battles and abductions
conducted by the terrorist group Al Qaeda. This group has threatened almost virtually everyone in
the country that if they don t listen and obey their rules, they will have them executed or tortured.
Thus, many families have packed their belongings and have made long treks out of the war torn
nation. Once, they come into Pakistan, they expect their experience to be better than the one in
Afghanistan. And to a certain extent, some of that may be true. However, once they become
integrated in the society, they realize that it is very hard to find a place to work.
Afghan children are also put in the same situation

Fun Home By Jeffery Eugenides Essay
What does it mean to be queer? The Merriam Webster Dictionary states that queer is differing in
some odd way from what is usual or normal ( Definition of Queer ). By this definition, all humans
are queer in their own way. When looking at the novel Middlesex, written by Jeffery Eugenides,
and the graphic novel Fun Home, written by Alison Bechdel, queerness is seen in multiple
aspects within the characters and styles of writing. Eugenides writes Middlesex through the all
knowing character of Cal, who was born and raised a female but later discovered to have both
male and female genitals. During the time of puberty, her queerness becomes more present as she
realizes how much she differs from her classmates. When a doctor finally tells her that her genetic
makeup is male, Cal runs away to take on this new identity. Contrasting this to the graphic novel
Fun Home, Bechdel writes a memoir of her life, retelling the story of her familyand the revelation of
her sexual identity. A strong emphasis is put on Bechdel s father, who is found to have homosexual
tendencies, and the relationship the two form through their queerness. Queerness, in the sense of
non normativity, is seen within the texts of Middlesex and Fun Home and can be compared and
contrasted by the ways in which the characters identify themselves as queer, how the styles of
narratives reflect queerness, and how the families of the protagonists are incidentally queer
themselves. While the characters of both Cal and

Literary Point Of Forshadowing In Monkey s Paw
The author of The Monkey s Paw, W.W. Jacobs uses many literary techniques to create suspense.
The story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers,
he wishes for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey
the point of the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing.
One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr.
White the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate
ruled people s lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This
evidence reveals that the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about
interfering with fate when they wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the
reader can conclude that the wishes will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the
whites inquire more about the paw, Morris throws it into the fire and warns them of the
consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it (paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer
from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the paw. However, Mr. White reaches his
hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw. You can also tell from this that
Morris had such a bad experience with the paw that he wants to destroy it. After that, Mr. White
asks Morris about the first person to have the paw, Morris s response was

up from the manufacturing plant, sorted out and then directly supplied to the customers. The main
plan of Wal Mart s SCM is providing good quality product to customers with lower price. In
addition, Wal Mart also plans to minimize it inventory quantities (University of San Francisco,

Neil Armstrong Contribution
As the most memorable astronaut once said, That s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for
mankind (Rosenberg 5). These were historic words said by Commander Neil Armstrong when he
was taking the first step onto the moon during the Apollo 11 mission. Armstrong was the first
human to step onto the moon. Shortly after, Neil s crew mate and lunar module pilot in Edwin
Buzz Aldrin took his steps onto the moon too. While, the command module pilot, Michael Collins
stayed back and orbited the moon (Loff 2). It was this day that became cemented in our world s
history as one of the most exhilarating days ever. Most would say that Neil Armstrong is one of the
most important astronauts known to this day. Neil admired many people that influenced him to
become an astronaut and they include Charles Lindbergh, Jimmy Stewart, Robert Redford, and
Chuck Yeager. Along with this, his family motivated him also, specifically his wife Janet and
children Rick and Mark (Barbee, Neil Armstrong, A Life of Flight 210). During the Apollo 11
mission, Neil Armstrong accomplished nothing greater than the moonwalk, but many factors went
into the mission, such as preparing, launching, landing, lifting off, and returning.
When the training began to see who would be chosen in 1969, Neil along with Buzz and Michael
were selected from a group of twenty nine astronauts. Between January 15 and July 15, Neil spent
around 42 hours a week training along with an additional 20 hours a week ...studying

Collision Avoidance System Essay
Every year millions of people get in vehicular accidents that cause expensive repairs and
sometimes trauma for the drivers. While collision avoidance systems are very advanced and
well developed, most systems are too expensive for the average consumer. Our team s general
mission is to reduce the likelihood of car crashes by improving an aspect in the car that either
keeps the driver more engaged while driving or assisting the driver in various tasks such as
stopping and lane changes. Along with the general mission, our team has defined further
parameters of our product in an attempt to narrow our ideas down. We decided the product should
be modular, third party, and affordable for the common driver. We also wanted our product to be

Cars with built in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited availability and high
cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available.
Often times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can
actually control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehicle
will not get into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another
problem is that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper,
mirrors, etc. which makes repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential demographics
for our product, we found a phone survey conducted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we
found that 83% of parents would not be willing to buy their child a brand new car. With that
many parents buying used cars, a lot of those teens will not have the luxurious access to built in
car safety. To visualize how large the difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic:
Another factor that led us to focus on teen drivers was a study in 2014, also conducted by the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that stated that 48% of teenagers who died in a driving
accident died in a car that was at least 11 years old. Seeing this statistic made us realize that we
wanted to develop a product that could be attached to cars that are not only 11 years

Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge Essay
Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge
Everyday we put tons of pollution into the air, water and ground. Our population is growing each
day and in turn urbanization is expanding. Teddy Roosevelt, being an avid outdoorsmen, knew the
importance of setting land aside for posterity sake and in doing do set a trend for later presidents.
When Richard Nixon set land aside in Alaska, which became the Alaskan National Wildlife
Refuge (ANWR), he set it aside to be never tainted by industrialization. Today republicans and
some democrats want to repeal the title of National Wildlife Refuge and drill there for oil. This
could have adverse effects for wildlife and the Inuit natives that call the ANWR and surrounding
area home. In this paper I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting fact about this issue is that 95% of Alaska s North Slope is open for exploration
and development leaving the ANWR as the remaining 5%(Sierra Club 1). The ANWR was set
aside for a reason, to be protected for later generations, so why drill in the protected site while 95%
is open?
An article off of sacbee.com talks about the Gwich in people and their dependency on the
ANWR. As well as animals being adversely affected the Gwich in Inuit natives live there. They
depend on the protection of the ANWR because their chief source of food is caribou. They use
every part of the caribou for food, clothing, shelter and their cultural focus point. Repealing the
status of a National Wildlife Refuge would hurt their way of life that they have preserved over the
years.
The site is being considered because the people who back this idea don t want the USA being
dependent on foreign oil. The fact is it would not make us less dependent on foreign oil, a 6
month supply over 50 years is not going to do that. They are also afraid of Saddam Hussien
controlling the oil market, but economists say the world controls the prices. The oil they want to
drill would be a very small amount only about 2% of our total reserves. If they started drilling in
2002 we would not see it until 2012, meaning we can not cure any problems that may occur before
then.
This graph shows the amount of oil the refuge would give us is only a small bump in the road. The
estimated amount of

Comparing Let America Be America Again And I Hear America...
In the poems Let American be America Again and I hear America Singing they are both dreams,
but for different reasons. In I hear America singing Walt Whitman portrays America in an
amazing light making people want to go this dream like utopian country. In Let America be
America Again it portrays America as a land of false dreams and wants it to be the dream it
hoped it be. It also tells of the corrupt, dark, crooked side of America. It also mentions how it
should never have been like this. Now in I hear America singing it shows the pure, lively, and
beautiful side of America. Both are dreams but they are dreams for different reasons. In Langston
Hughes Let America be America again America was a dream for everyone. The dream, however,

Titus Andronicus Analysis
Titus Andronicus is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. Titus Andronicus is Shakespeare s
first tragedy. The play is considered by critics and fans alike to be Shakespeare s most distasteful
work that features excessive violence and spectacle. Julie Taymor s film adaption explores the
corruption of violence as she creates many visual parallels to our modern culture of entertaining
violence, paying close attention to the plays relish of spectacle. Both Shakespeare and Taymor treat
the spectacle and excess of the play in their own way which highlights small differences between the
two texts.
A spectacle can be defined as a visually striking performance or display . As Taymor s version is
an adaption, she was able to experiment with the excessive nature of the play and its spectacle.
She opened the film with a cold open showing a young boy playing with toy soldiers, violently
smashing them together and spraying ketchup all over them to create blood. His own fantasy
game becomes a reality when an explosion outside the kitchen window frightens him under a table
from which he is rescued just before it explodes. He is then transported to an area and the audience
cheers, but it feels artificial just like the opening scene of Shakespeare s play. This layering of
spectacle occurs throughout the film, because it has a combination of modern pop culture and
ancient Roman designs to give the impression that the Roman Empire survived into the modern era
as Roger Ebert writes in

Common Cold Research Paper
The Common Cold: Cause and Effect The common cold is a simple viral infection of the nose
and throat. It has more than 3 million US cases per year. It spreads easily, is self treatable, is self
diagnosable, lab tests and imaging are not required, and is short term, so it almost always leaves
within days to weeks. Although more than 100 viruses can cause a common cold, there are two
main ones. They are the Rhinovirus, which is most active in early fall, spring, and summer. It

and mouth due to irritation of one s nostrils. Then, it s watery eyes, which is when your eyes are
filled with tears because you are sick or sad. Next, it s a runny or stuffy nose. A runny nose is the
result of excess nasal mucus production, leading to watery nasal secretions that discharge from
the nostrils or drip down into the throat. A stuffy nose is basically the same, however it doesn t
drip down. Finally, it s an itchy or a sore throat. An itchy or a sore throat is when your throat is

  • 2. Why Is It Important To Take Naps 1. I would tell the parents to tell the child why a nap is important for him. I would tell him that when he takes naps he will have more energy to play and run around. Another thing they could do it go in and read a story to him to help him fall asleep. Another good tip is to put on nap time music, that always helps the children at the daycare fall asleep faster. The last thing I would suggest is to rock your child yo sleep. Not in a ricking chair or anything, but to sit by their bed and gently rock their body back and forth or rub the child s back. This is what we do at the daycare to get all the children asleep. 2. I hated taking naps. My stepmom had us take naps until we were pretty old, from what I can remember. In the end we probably ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Daily Trojan Pros And Cons The Daily Trojan is a student newspaper from the University of Southern California, which has been continuously recognized for providing a free space for students to discuss and explore responsible intellectual conversations about the USC community. This newspaper gives students a medium to express their thoughts through writing and informing the student population of rising issues at the school. The issue that I focus on in my editorial called Transfer Students, Who? is the lack of integration that the USC transfer student population is having with transitioning into USC, which can be alleviated through the development of a transfer student center. One of the main reasons that the editorial starts off with presenting the statistics of transfer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Drinking Alcoholic Beverages DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol, commonly known as alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are divided into three general classes: beers, wines, and spirits (or distilled beverage). They are legally consumed in most countries, and over 100 countries have laws regulating their production, sale, and consumption.[1] In particular, such laws specify the minimum age at which a person may legally buy or drink them. This minimum age varies between 16 and 25 years, depending upon the country and the type of drink. Most nations set it at 18 years of age.[1] The production and consumption of alcohol occurs in most cultures of the world, from hunter gatherer peoples to nation states.[2][3] Alcoholic beverages ... However, there are some controversies regarding this definition mainly because the large number of chemical substances reported in chemistry literature need to be indexed. Isomerism caused much consternation to early researchers, since isomers have exact the same composition, but differ in configuration (arrangement) of the atoms. For example, there was much speculation for the chemical identity of benzene, until the correct structure was described by Friedrich August KekulГ©. Likewise, the idea of stereoisomerism that atoms have rigid three dimensional structure and can thus form isomers that differ only in their three dimensional arrangement was another crucial step in understanding the concept of distinct chemical substances. For example, tartaric acid has three distinct isomers, a pair of diastereomers with one diastereomer forming two enantiomers. chemical is a form of matter that has constant chemical composition and characteristic properties.[1] It cannot be separated into components by physical separation ... • 5. My Favorite Movies Whenever I was dealing with any stress or problems, I would go to the movie theatre and sit down and immerse myself in a two hour long film. And all of a sudden all my problems were not an issue. It s like if the smell of fresh popcorn, sweet candy, and thirst quenching soda was a doctor s recommendation. The sound of crowds waiting eager to see an upcoming flick they ve been anxious about pleased my ears; this atmosphere of innocence and joy caused me to make this theatre my safe haven. I always found it fascinating how long it takes for movies to be made, so at the end of every movie I had an itch that said you can do that too. Then after watching an abundance of movies I finally scratched what I had felt. It was the beginning itch to become a filmmaker. This was in my 8th grade year and I initially thought this must be a phase, because my mom said so. At the time I had no equipment ,no knowledge of how cameras or editing actually work, so maybe my mom was right, maybe it was all phase. Like I had said going to the movies was almost like a routine. Most of the movies I watched were made with computer generated imagery, green screens, or a budget so big it made your jaw drop. However this caused me to think how were movies made twenty or even thirty years ago. This began the love of watching 80 s movies. E.T. , Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future, sparked the thought I don t need high budgets to make memorable movies. Yet, it wasn t till watching a filmmade in 1986 ... • 6. Attribution of Intentionality and Theory of Mind in... The ability of understanding intentions of others is very important for social development of children (Feinfield, Lee, Flavell, Green, Flavell, 1999). By means of understanding intentions children can make sense of that people and animates are different from objects (Feinfield, et al., 1999). According to Shantz (1983), this ability is the requisite to understand moralityand responsibility. To understand plans and planning we also need to have the ability of understanding intentions (Feinfield, et al., 1999). In addition, Feinfield and colleagues stated that acquiring the ability of understanding intentions of others is also important for the cognitive development of the children such as theory of mind (ToM) that is the understanding... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, the question when children begin to acquire the ability of understanding the intentions was studied to determine the developmental trajectory of this ability. According to Piaget, children started to reflect an understanding of intentions in behavior over the age of 7 years of age (Kelly, 2011). However, more recent studies showed that children could have this understanding earlier. One of these studies was conducted by Carpenter, Akhtar and Tomasello in 1998. The participants of the study by Carpenter and her colleagues (1998) are 20 infants aged 14 18 months. In the study, infants are measured with an implicit measure in which they observed an adult that exhibit two actions on objects with one of the discriminative cues that was saying either Woops! that refers to accidental actions or There! that refers to intentional ones. There were three conditions: an intentional action followed by an accidental one (I A condition), an accidental action followed by an intentional one (A I condition) and also two intentional actions (I I condition). Each infant participated in each condition twice. It was hypothesis that infants as young as 14 months would preferably imitate intentional actions over accidental ones. According to the results, children as young as 14 18 months of age showed the ability to differentially imitate and distinguish the intentional actions from accidental ones (Carpenter, et al., ... • 7. Module 3 Research Certification Essay Essay Subject: Module 3 Research Certification Essay In order to maintain well organized and managed processes, every organization will need to implement some form of inspection methods or adhere to inspections set forth by overarching authorities. For airports serving, or intending to serve, air carrier operations, the Federal Aviation administration s (FAA) Regulations 14 CFR Part 139 defines specific policies, activities, and standards for airfield operations management that are required for compliance (Wells Young, 2011). In addition, the FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 150 /5200 18C provides information to airportoperators on airport self inspection programs and identifies items that airport operators should include in such a program (U.S. Department of Transportation, 2004). Using these two references, applicable airports are equipped to conduct self inspections, which are vital to ensuring safe operations and compliance with stated requirements. The U.S. Government Publishing Office details the FAA 14 CFR Part 139 on its website, which spells out the frequency that the airport must be inspected. It provides that this should be done daily, except as otherwise required by the Airport Certification Manual, when required by any unusual condition, such as construction activities or meteorological conditions, that may affect safe air carrier operations, and immediately after an accident or incident (U.S. Government Publishing Office, 2016). • 8. The Ethical Theory Of Ethical Theories Essay Ethical theories are concepts or moral values that dictate whether choices are right or wrong. The two ethical theories that are the most prominent in society are Utilitarianism and Deontology. Utilitarianism is a theory that judges the value of the action as good or bad based on the consequences of the deed, while Deontology believes the motive of the act is more important. When determining the value of the decisions, the variables are based on the guidelines of each ethical theory. This includes providing the basis of how to make logical decisions founded on ethical reasoning. Unfortunately, there are many situations where individual s rights are threatened due to unethical and unmoral situations like sexual harassment in the workplace. To prevent similar situations from occurring, individuals must be able to fully understand when to apply the use of ethicsto decision making. For this type of mindset to take place, the public needs to be educated on the different types of ethical ideologies, and know how to approach situations based on ethical solutions. Once the public is aware of the ethical theories and how to avoid unethical situations, there will a decreased amount of sexual harassment in the workplace. Utilitarianism, also known as consequentialism, is a theory where actions are considered good or bad depending on the consequences of the actions, not the motives. In Utilitarianism, the main goal of the theory is to maximize the most amount of good for all people. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Effects Of The Superpacs Is Something Americans Are... Research Paper Political Science The effects of the SuperPACs is something Americans are hearing more and more about in the 2016 campaign. Do Americans have a good understanding of what SuperPACs are and how they can affect the Presidential election.? This is something that needs to be discussed. As Americans, don t we have the right to know who is financing the elections? These are only a few of the questions many people should be asking themselves. The history of the government attempting to reform or suppress candidate donations for the office of presidency goes further back than you may think. In 1971, Congress passed the Federal Elections Campaign Act (FECA). This was important because it was to set limits on the amount of money campaigns could spend on advertisement and mandated the reporting of the source of funds to the federal government (Magleby, Light, Nemacheck, 2015, p. 249). According to Magleby, after the major scandal of Watergate, Congress made stricter laws regarding limitations on spending and contributions of the candidates. Congress created the Federal Elections Commission (FEC); accordingly, the responsibilities of the FEC are to inforce the laws set forth by the FECA. Next, in 2002, Congress passed the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA), while President George W. Bushheld office (Magleby, Light, Nemacheck, 2015, p. 250). In comparison to others, Wang Lung considers his land to have rich soil and be perfect for farming, a prime example presented when he contrasts his own land to his uncle s, which he describes to have soil like lime (Page 52) because of his uncle s careless farming techniques. • 12. Personality Big Five Model Solved Case TEAM ASSIGNMENT #1: Case Study Astral Marketing 42.211 B EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The main problem Astral Marketing is experiencing is a low level of productivity, mainly due to employee dissatisfaction and low levels of employee motivation. Employees are currently unhappy with wages and incentives, as well as general working conditions at the company. As a result, employees are becoming unmotivated. Issues such as poor communication skills, lack of employee empowerment, high turnover, and too low or too high mental stimulation also have a direct impact on the low level of productivity (Robbins Langton 2001) The four potential solutions to Astral Marketing s low productivity include: the formation of a union, team building training, ... Procedural justice the perceived fairness of the process used to determine the distribution of rewards is also defied by the company (Robbins Langton 2001, p. 170). Company records show only one or two workers per week (have gotten) the $20 bonus over the past six months (Schweitzer, p.3). The concept of procedural justice is also challenged through inequitable contract distribution (assuming it can be regulated) at the company. Since the contracts are of broad range, some contracts are more difficult to promote than others are, and the set wages and bonuses do not reflect this inequality (Schweitzer 2002). Another issue is poor communication skills, which result in both a lack of respect for supervisors and a poor level of colleague support. Having friendly and supportive co workers leads to increased job satisfaction , similar to the behaviour of one s manager (Robbins Langton 2001, p.108). The employees at Astral Marketing, however, have poor relations with their supervisors, likely because the supervisors are not trained on how to deal with workers as people (Schweitzer 2002, p.1). There are also poor relations between employees due to a lack of support and understanding (Schweitzer 2002). Poor communication skills also contribute to the lack of employee empowerment at Astral Marketing. Empowerment, or giving employees responsibility for what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Dangers Of Teen Pregnancy Pregnancy and sex based diseases have become an unfortunate reality for teens in our society. Sexually active teens as young as 13 years old are contracting harmful and dangerous diseases that threaten their lives. Staggering amounts of teenagers, around three million, have unprotected sex, from which they unfortunately contract STDs (Besharov 1). While some teenagers do not know the dangers of unprotected sex, such as STDs, others just choose to ignore them (Basso 125). Teen pregnancyis also very prevalent all over the world. Even though teen pregnancy rates in the United States are at a low, teens that are not educated in safe sex are still at risk of becoming pregnant. Some teens are even getting pregnant, just so they do not lose their boyfriend, or for attention. While children are wonderful, many teens are not mentally and/or physically prepared for children so young. For many people, it is believed that many teens are pressured to have unsafe and dangerous intercourse by the media. Although some teens (13 19) have unprotected sex early on purpose, many are influenced by sex based commercials and advertisements because of lack of contraceptive ads, parental control, and sexual content in movies and TV show. While some teens choose to have unprotected copulation, or intercourse, many are not aware of the dangers because of lack of contraceptive advertising. On primetime TV, an abundant amount of sexual content, without contraceptive ads, can be found. Commercials on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Persuasive Essay About Censorship For everything that needs to be said there are always these things that never should be (Witherbee). This statement has rung true for many generations and for many reasons. Censorship helps solve this problem within T.V. shows, art, media, internet, and advertisements. In the world today people are easily offended and some people use information to their advantage. Despite what some people might believe, there are people in America that can use uncensored information to hinder the productivity of the country to benefit themselves or another country. Censorshipis necessary to protect different groups and people. However, some things are unnecessarily censored such as books. Books are the best educator because authors usually have something more to say than the words on the page say. There are certain groups such as the Parents Against Bad Books in Schools who only see the words and meanings that are on the page (Parents Against Bad Books in Schools). For example, the book Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was banned from certain schools because it said the word nigger in it (Witherbee). If the reader would have read the book s entirety one would have discovered the anti slavery tone the book possesses. Books teach lessons and they show readers that problems either need to be fixed or one needs to come up with a better solution. Books can be a great way to introduce children to real world situations without putting them in stressful or unstable situations. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lewis demonstrates his belief that women are meant to be housewives and submissive to men. As children, girls can be more masculine, but in the end they become too silly and vain to do much else. Many of them have had to make enormous sacrifices in order to survive in these hard times. For most families that are in the same situation like Rafiq and his family, the basic necessities such as food and water that others take for granted are now considered the highest priority in their lives. Though native born families are the ones who suffer the most in poverty in Pakistan, there are also outsiders who suffer just as much. One example is the children of Afghan refugees from Afghanistan. During the Afghan War, many families in that region have been separated or killed during battles and abductions conducted by the terrorist group Al Qaeda. • 43. Fun Home By Jeffery Eugenides Essay What does it mean to be queer? The Merriam Webster Dictionary states that queer is differing in some odd way from what is usual or normal ( Definition of Queer ). By this definition, all humans are queer in their own way. When looking at the novel Middlesex, written by Jeffery Eugenides, and the graphic novel Fun Home, written by Alison Bechdel, queerness is seen in multiple aspects within the characters and styles of writing. Eugenides writes Middlesex through the all knowing character of Cal, who was born and raised a female but later discovered to have both male and female genitals. During the time of puberty, her queerness becomes more present as she realizes how much she differs from her classmates. When a doctor finally tells her that her genetic makeup is male, Cal runs away to take on this new identity. Contrasting this to the graphic novel Fun Home, Bechdel writes a memoir of her life, retelling the story of her familyand the revelation of her sexual identity. A strong emphasis is put on Bechdel s father, who is found to have homosexual tendencies, and the relationship the two form through their queerness. Queerness, in the sense of non normativity, is seen within the texts of Middlesex and Fun Home and can be compared and contrasted by the ways in which the characters identify themselves as queer, how the styles of narratives reflect queerness, and how the families of the protagonists are incidentally queer themselves. While the characters of both Cal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Literary Point Of Forshadowing In Monkey s Paw The author of The Monkey s Paw, W.W. Jacobs uses many literary techniques to create suspense. The story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers, he wishes for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey the point of the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing. One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr. White the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate ruled people s lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This evidence reveals that the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about interfering with fate when they wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the reader can conclude that the wishes will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the whites inquire more about the paw, Morris throws it into the fire and warns them of the consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it (paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the paw. However, Mr. White reaches his hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw. You can also tell from this that Morris had such a bad experience with the paw that he wants to destroy it. • 48. Neil Armstrong Contribution As the most memorable astronaut once said, That s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind (Rosenberg 5). These were historic words said by Commander Neil Armstrong when he was taking the first step onto the moon during the Apollo 11 mission. Armstrong was the first human to step onto the moon. Shortly after, Neil s crew mate and lunar module pilot in Edwin Buzz Aldrin took his steps onto the moon too. While, the command module pilot, Michael Collins stayed back and orbited the moon (Loff 2). It was this day that became cemented in our world s history as one of the most exhilarating days ever. Most would say that Neil Armstrong is one of the most important astronauts known to this day. Neil admired many people that influenced him to become an astronaut and they include Charles Lindbergh, Jimmy Stewart, Robert Redford, and Chuck Yeager. Along with this, his family motivated him also, specifically his wife Janet and children Rick and Mark (Barbee, Neil Armstrong, A Life of Flight 210). During the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong accomplished nothing greater than the moonwalk, but many factors went into the mission, such as preparing, launching, landing, lifting off, and returning. When the training began to see who would be chosen in 1969, Neil along with Buzz and Michael were selected from a group of twenty nine astronauts. Between January 15 and July 15, Neil spent around 42 hours a week training along with an additional 20 hours a week ...studying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Collision Avoidance System Essay Every year millions of people get in vehicular accidents that cause expensive repairs and sometimes trauma for the drivers. While collision avoidance systems are very advanced and well developed, most systems are too expensive for the average consumer. Our team s general mission is to reduce the likelihood of car crashes by improving an aspect in the car that either keeps the driver more engaged while driving or assisting the driver in various tasks such as stopping and lane changes. Along with the general mission, our team has defined further parameters of our product in an attempt to narrow our ideas down. We decided the product should be modular, third party, and affordable for the common driver. We also wanted our product to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cars with built in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited availability and high cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available. Often times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can actually control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehicle will not get into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is that the system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper, mirrors, etc. which makes repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential demographics for our product, we found a phone survey conducted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we found that 83% of parents would not be willing to buy their child a brand new car. With that many parents buying used cars, a lot of those teens will not have the luxurious access to built in car safety. To visualize how large the difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic: Another factor that led us to focus on teen drivers was a study in 2014, also conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that stated that 48% of teenagers who died in a driving accident died in a car that was at least 11 years old. Seeing this statistic made us realize that we wanted to develop a product that could be attached to cars that are not only 11 years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge Essay Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge Everyday we put tons of pollution into the air, water and ground. Our population is growing each day and in turn urbanization is expanding. Teddy Roosevelt, being an avid outdoorsmen, knew the importance of setting land aside for posterity sake and in doing do set a trend for later presidents. When Richard Nixon set land aside in Alaska, which became the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), he set it aside to be never tainted by industrialization. Today republicans and some democrats want to repeal the title of National Wildlife Refuge and drill there for oil. This could have adverse effects for wildlife and the Inuit natives that call the ANWR and surrounding area home. In this paper I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An interesting fact about this issue is that 95% of Alaska s North Slope is open for exploration and development leaving the ANWR as the remaining 5%(Sierra Club 1). The ANWR was set aside for a reason, to be protected for later generations, so why drill in the protected site while 95% is open? An article off of sacbee.com talks about the Gwich in people and their dependency on the ANWR. As well as animals being adversely affected the Gwich in Inuit natives live there. They depend on the protection of the ANWR because their chief source of food is caribou. They use every part of the caribou for food, clothing, shelter and their cultural focus point. Repealing the status of a National Wildlife Refuge would hurt their way of life that they have preserved over the years. The site is being considered because the people who back this idea don t want the USA being dependent on foreign oil. The fact is it would not make us less dependent on foreign oil, a 6 month supply over 50 years is not going to do that. They are also afraid of Saddam Hussien controlling the oil market, but economists say the world controls the prices. The oil they want to drill would be a very small amount only about 2% of our total reserves. If they started drilling in 2002 we would not see it until 2012, meaning we can not cure any problems that may occur before then. This graph shows the amount of oil the refuge would give us is only a small bump in the road. The estimated amount of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In I hear America singing Walt Whitman portrays America in an amazing light making people want to go this dream like utopian country. • 53. Titus Andronicus Analysis Titus Andronicus is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. Titus Andronicus is Shakespeare s first tragedy. The play is considered by critics and fans alike to be Shakespeare s most distasteful work that features excessive violence and spectacle. Julie Taymor s film adaption explores the corruption of violence as she creates many visual parallels to our modern culture of entertaining violence, paying close attention to the plays relish of spectacle. Both Shakespeare and Taymor treat the spectacle and excess of the play in their own way which highlights small differences between the two texts. A spectacle can be defined as a visually striking performance or display . As Taymor s version is an adaption, she was able to experiment with the excessive nature of the play and its spectacle. She opened the film with a cold open showing a young boy playing with toy soldiers, violently smashing them together and spraying ketchup all over them to create blood. His own fantasy game becomes a reality when an explosion outside the kitchen window frightens him under a table from which he is rescued just before it explodes. He is then transported to an area and the audience cheers, but it feels artificial just like the opening scene of Shakespeare s play. This layering of spectacle occurs throughout the film, because it has a combination of modern pop culture and ancient Roman designs to give the impression that the Roman Empire survived into the modern era as Roger Ebert writes in ...
