1.Affirmative Action began as a plan to equalize the educational, employment, and contracting
opportunities for minorities and women with opportunities given to their white, male counterparts.
There s a difference between equal opportunity and affirmative action policies. Equal employment
opportunity (EEO) means freedom from discriminationon the basis of protected classes such as race,
color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability or genetic information. Affirmative actionis
considered to be an honest and social obligation to alter historical wrong doings and disregard the
present effects of past discrimination.
Personally, I don t believe in the term reverse discrimination because discrimination in any form is

A body of scientific research over the past 50 years shows that people notice race, as well as
gender, wealth, and even weight. Should racial identities matter? I don t think so. We should see
the person for who they are and not what color of skin they have. I like the say don t judge a
book by its cover because I believe that you should get to know a person before you make any sort
of judgment or evaluations of them.
There is something called the power of racial bias, which is often concealed. Some think that
calling it a racial bias lessens the blow of being called a racist. People claiming bias can admit
they may have acted in racially insensitive ways but were unaware of their subconscious
motivations. Someone can think racist thoughts, but never actually behave in a racist manner. Most
people don t self identify as a racist because they don t take any action upon it. People think that
just because they don t act upon it, that they shouldn t be considered racist; however, thoughts and
views can be a small form of racism. For example, if you saw a large black man at night would you
be a little scared? What about if that man were white? Would you flinch a little in both
scenarios? If you flinched for one and not the other, based on his race, it s still considered racist.
So, no, I don t think a person has to see herself or himself as a racist in order to behave in a racist

That morning I had a really good feeling about today. That morning was a dry, and so humid you
wouldn t believe it. The sun was shining bright and the clouds were gleaming with excitement. It
was Thursday. My team called it Championship Thursday because we were fighting to win a
national title in Myrtle Beach. As I arrived at the field for our first game which was the first game
of bracket play. Yesterday was pool play. We played 6 pool play games and won them all so that
put us in the number one seed. That s mean we had a pretty easy game ahead of us. As the day
continued we one 2 more. We had a little break after the third game. Next game was what we
were all dreaming of, the national championship game. It was time. I was nervous, out of my
mind nervous. Everyone was, especially our coaches. When we stepped on the field I had a
good feeling that we were gonna step off the field as national champions. After we got
everything set up in our dugout we went to warm up. As we were hitting in the batting cages
teams were coming up to us and saying how amazing we were and how bad they wanted us to
win this game. This made us even more pumped to win. After we got back from the batting cages
it was so packed with people and there were many softball and baseballteams there to watch the
game. We had to take grounders and pop flies. Which we were doing really good. As I was
warming upour number one pitcher I was watching the other team and wow did they look good.

Prostitution of Minors
Prostitution of minors occurs all around the world. We do not notice because it may not concern
us, and it is difficult to act when something does not affect us in any way. It affects you if you
have children or nieces who are under age right now selling themselves to help out their families
who are in need of money. What would you do right then to help them get out of that situation?
That s what s going on in Europe right now when you visit, is the same thing that is happening in
Mexico. There are many young girls selling themselves because they have to work to support
their family. I had a personal experience with this issue when I took a trip down to Mexico with
my cousins once. It was around 1:00 a.m, and we were heading back to the borderline to cross
back into the U.S. On our way there I saw an empty building that was full of women and children
standing outside. I told my cousin to stop, and I got out of the car to ask a girl who looked to be
around 9 or 10 years old, what she was doing there I will never forget her words, I came here to
work to help out with money because right now I m the only one who can . I told my cousin to
help the girl with some money she could go home for the day, so that she did not have to do this
at least for a day. Those words of hers have stuck with me to this day. Seeing these children out
there that have to resort to these acts to support their family seems unfair because they are not the
parents. The parents should be the

Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work
UROP Application Spring 2016
Christopher Jones
Mentor: Trafton Drew
Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work
Visual Search is important in our everyday lives, and search relies on cues from the environment
and uses object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual
similarity between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research
has been done to see how different types of similarity between objects compare in their effects on
visual search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and
visual similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects
is important because many laboratory visual search tasks are not reflective of visual search in a
real world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form
of ERP (Event Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional
processing, as well as how distracting certain objects may or may not be. Specifically the N2PC
reflects a shift in attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences
between visual and semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between
participants. While research shows there is a behavioral effect between visual and semantic
similarity among distractors in visual search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016),

The Hilarious Entertainment Of Max And Uncle John Putting...
The hilarious entertainment of Max and Uncle John putting together the Doughboy swimming pool
a distant memory, they now felt like they were the envy of the neighborhood to get such a luxury
item. Not being tall enough to touch the bottom of the pool, Sam, Susan, and Beth each had to
wear a bright orange life jacket which kept them afloat, but prevented them from learning how to
swim before going on the family vacation to Camp Livingstone. The fact that Susan did not know
how to swim would be the prelude to one of the most embarrassing and traumatizing events in her
life.
~
Now that is music to my ears, embarrassing and traumatizing.
~
Camp Livingstone, an amazing family campground, was packed with fun filled activities from
sunup till sundown. There was something for everyone: swimming, canoeing, water bicycles, arts
and crafts, and nightly canteen parties for the teenagers. One of the family rules while
vacationing at Camp Livingstone was to be paired off in groups of two or more at all times. No
one was ever allowed to wander off alone.
On the first day of their weeklong stay, Millie and Susan were paired off. They walked from their
tent to the lake, about the distance of two football fields. The event s coordinator announced a
swimming contest would begin on the shoreline and end at the square platform 100 yards away.
Millie pressured Susan, Come on, Sue. Let s do the race.
Millie, I m not a good swimmer. I ve only gone without a life jacket a couple of times.

Sex Trafficking Is The Violation Of Human Rights
Good Luck Sex trafficking is the violation of human rights: equality, health, and dignity. Today
ninety six percent of victims of sexual exploitation are women and girls. (Shared Hope
International) There is an extensive debate on how women are viewed as an object rather than
an actual human being. The portrayal of women today is sickening. Women are shown as a sex
object to men rather than a person. In this horrific act of self destruction, women are exposed to
sexual performance in trade off to the buyer or much known as a sex trafficker, for money, drugs,
and or values of life. Traffickers trap women, child, or even men into guarantee relationships, gifts,
and other false promises. This is known as a Commercial Sex Act. Women who are involved in
human traffickinghave their complete existence taken from them. Most victims that are involved
in sex trafficking do not have a peaceful ending. Sex and human trafficking is a prime example of
how our society over sexualizes women. The whole academic of human trafficking shows that
women are stigmatized as weak individuals. It is mainly from how they are treated, many are
known know as a Sex Slave after the entertainment from the traffickers has been done. The results
of human trafficking are degrading to the women in society. It may be known as prostitution but
what some people do not understand or care for, it is a Federal Law identified as Sex trafficking.
Human trafficking not only happens in the United States of American but all parts of this alarming
world. This form of slaverydenies the freedom to 20.9 million human beings in the world around
us. (Polaris) Taken uses two clueless American teenagers, Maggie Grace (Kim) and Katie Cassidy
(Amanda), who certainly have no knowledge about leaving the United States, alone. This is
another factor of how women are portrayed as unstainable objects. Hours into their educational
vacation the girls intended to have, someone had a change of plans for them. While waiting for
their arrival at the hotel, the two teenager show their American courtesy by sharing a cab with this
foreigner. Their lives were in the home stretch of being taking advantage. Aside from that, the father

Informative Speech On Racism
Racism is like an epidemic in that it is spread by communities and affects thousands of lives
every day. It is shown through speech and actions from the age range of children to elders. When
in effect, racism can become violent and flip lives upside down. Fast forward past all the civil
rights movements and efforts to halt racism, and today s society still has an abundance of racism.
Eradicating racism all together has been the goal since the beginning of time, but I believe to
make people aware of actual damage it causes is the best way to advocate how wrong this
discrimination is. One of the most impactful program I have seen to spread awareness of racism is
the television hit series titled Switched at Birth . During the specific episode, a select group of
white students placed cotton balls throughout the lawn of the Black Student Union. Since these said
students were white and rich, they got away with it. This lack of punishment from authority for
such a horrendous act created an uprising within the Union. Not only did they peacefully protest,
but one member went on a hunger strike to gain attention. The school refused to partake in the
expulsion of the students and requests of equality from the union, so the one member continued her
hunger strike. Soon after this refusal of acknowledgment, the said member was sent to the hospital
as she had passed out and almost lost her life. Even after this event, the school wanted to ignore her
actions and keep the students.

Increasing the Approval Ratings for President Obama
What Should I do To Increase My Approval Rating?
Introduction
When my iPhone said The White House I thought it was the local restaurant I had made
reservations over the weekend for my parent s anniversary. There was a very stern voice that
said President Obama needs your opinion on the current approval ratings, please hold for the
President of the United States of America В¦and we thank you for your service В¦ Wow! President
Obama wanted advice on how to improve his approval rating. I laid out my three point plan I have
long been advocating throughout the debates (I have had with my family and friends).
Three Point Plan to Increase Approval Ratings The most critical area of President Obama s
approval rating has to do with the economy. To get America back to work as quickly as possible I
proposed he immediately create new venture economic opportunity zones throughout the U.S.,
concentrating on those areas hardest hit by the recession. I d focus specifically on Ohio, which has
lost hundreds of thousands of jobs. My plan would be to roll out entrepreneurial assistance to new
ventures with a solid business plan, and also a strong management team. Creating and fostering
entrepreneurialism is critical for the overall successful functioning of a complex economy such as
the U.S. (Trimi, Berbegal Mirabent, 463). I would tell him that he also needs to become known as
the Entrepreneurial Candidate, concentrating on small business and immediately removing the
many barriers

How Did Edgar Degas Create A Two Dancer On A Stage
Edgar Degas was a French artist, which was known as an Impressionists. He was born on the
19th of July, 1834, in Paris, France. His full name was Hilaire Germain Edgar Degas. Degas
went into practice law. In 1855, he enrolled at the famous School of Fine Arts, in Paris, where he
studied under Louis Lamothe, a pupil of the classical painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres. In
time, Edgar Degas painting became popular and unique. Edgar Degas painting featured
unorthodox visual angles and asymmetrical perspectives. The painting Two Dancer on a stage
includes two dancers in standard ballet positions standing on a stage. However, there is another
Ballerina who is cut off. This allow you to see that the painting is painted on an angle making it
seem realistic. This makes the painting unique. The dancers in this painting are in full costume
and mid dance showing that this is not a rehearsal rather a performance. The coloring of the
painting is soft and is not bright. However, the dancer s costume are very bright with pink,
yellow, and green. Fiero informs us that he never sacrificed line and form to the beguiling
qualities of color and light (120). Degas use of muted colors stands in contrast to the vivid colors
being used by the Impressionists in their landscapes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Abstract
According to the FBI (2007) the Beltway Snipers was a series of random murders that had
occurred around the Washington D.C. area during the month of October in 2002. The case was
closely studied and investigated by the Montgomery County Police Department and was led by
Chief Charles Moose with additional help from other government services such as the FBI. The
identities of these two men were discovered due to clues that were purposely left behind by the
perpetrators. Their names were John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo. During this time in
history, these two names were known to strike fear in people s hearts and make people think
twice about going outside and continuing their regular day to day activities. In the end, both of
Malvo and Muhammad were charged with life in prison, but Muhammad was also charged with
the death penalty. Today, only Malvo is still alive and now realizes the wickedness of the crimes
he committed. This paper is not only going to introduce you to the Beltway Snipers, but also help
you become more aware of the reasons as to why they did this, all of the victims that were
involved, and the significance of this case as a whole.

Descriptive Essay About Billy Joel
People say there are moments that will stick with you no matter how much time has passed. I
am positive this statement is true for the Billy Joel Concert that I attended at Wrigley Field in
Chicago on August 11th. The tickets were a gift given to me by my parents for my Birthday
back in January. They were hidden in a box with a stack of about 50 manilla envelopes which
my parents found very funny. I couldn t believe my eyes when I finally found the tickets, I had
never been to a concert before, unless you count seeing the Perry Choir and Band, so there was
much anticipation. The seats my parents and I had at Wrigley field were not great. The steps
were so high that it felt like we had climbed Mount Everest and the seats were so close together
that you couldn t move without elbowing your neighbor, but that didn t matter as Billy started to
play Miami 2017. The first notes that Billy played rocked my core and actually made my eyes
water not because Miami 2017 is a beautiful ballad but because it brought me into reality. It finally
hit me that I was in Chicago watching my favorite singer belting out lyrics I had listened to
hundreds of times live instead of just watching YouTube videos and listening to my Spotify playlist.
Billy Joeltruly lives up to his nickname The Entertainer even at 68. He was so much fun to watch.
Occasionally he would throw out what he called a fielder s choice. Two options were put forth and

interracial kiss ever on television. For a show in the 1960s, Star Trekbroke many barriers across
religious, racial, but most significantly genderlines. From television to film, from music to
advertising, men are often portrayed as strong willed and powerful, while women are often shown
as submissive, powerless, and sexually promiscuous. Particularly in American... Show more content

It seems that the film breaks out of traditional gender stereotypes. However, looking a little deeper
one will see that in all the fight scenes, Uhura plays no part in giving out commands or taking
initiative, which perpetuates the stereotype that women don t take initiative. The women officers
are shot with the camera from the top down rather than from the bottom up as the men are which
emphasizes the physical size difference between the men and the women officers and belittles the
power of the women officers. Although the film appears to show strong women, the women in fact
are weak and are depicted as mostly useless the women also don t break out of any traditional
gender stereotypes.
Despite, the apparent strength of Uhura, the film eroticizes Uhura through camera angles, her
romantic action toward Spock, and her costume. At the end of the film, the camera darts back and
forth between the main characters aboard the Enterprise. All of the men shown are siting up
straight, and shot from the bottom up to assert their strength and physical size. When Uhura is
shown, her entire body is shown while the men s bodies were only shown from the chest up she
puffs out her chest, rests her hands on her legs, and puts her legs together all signs that the film is
trying to establish a sexual appeal with Uhura s character. In addition, the

The Destructive Effects of Cult Conversions Essay
A cult is a group of sadistic people that harm and take advantage of young, innocent people that
are ripped away from their families and into a cold, dangerous world. There are many questions as

their beliefs and their twisted ways of life. One common way that cultgroups usually do is they pick
out the most innocent and lonely victim. Then they make you feel comfortable and welcome and

religious ways to persuade you into their cult, tricking you into their society. Cult leaders frequently

Television Violence Essay
Television violence and its effects on viewers has been a controversial issue for many years. Some
viewers believe that there is an increasingly large amount of violence on television and this
widespread public concern has quot;led to calls for stricter controls on the depiction of violence in
programmes quot; (Gunter and McAleer 1990:92). Exactly how much violence is there on
television though?
Many cultivation theorists have studied this, acquiring data in the form of content analysis. They
agree on a definition of a violent act, for example Gerbner in his study used the definition, quot;an
overt expression of physical force against self or other, compelling action against ones will on pain
of being hurt or killed, or actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clearly obvious from the research already done concerning television and its effects, that
violence is quite prevalent on British television. Of more concern however is the effect that those
can have on its viewers. Does the violence on television really increase the violent attitudes and
behaviour in individuals? Violence on television can do one of three things. The first is make us
more violent (Huesmann 1982), the second is make us less violent (Feshbach 1972) and the third
is to have no effect at all (Freedman 1984, Kaplan and Singer 1976). Most evidence has supported
the first argument namely that television violence does increase our own violent behaviour. There
are four main effects that cause this violent behaviour when viewing it on television.
The first of these affects is arousal. It is believed that a violent programme increases levels of
arousal and thus causes us to become more violent as we are not only excited by the programme
but also agitated and nervous. This effect is not limited to violent programmes however, as a
comedy programme may induce arousal in the form of amusement in the same way as a violent
programme induces arousal in the form of anger. It is the type of arousal that occurs in the first
place that determines the effect the programme has. Condry (1989:11) found that suspense

Police Brutality in Anywhere, USA Essay
After our marching band s performance at a football game was cancelled because of lightning,
about six or seven of the band members (including a few student leaders) sat around shooting the
breeze, not fighting, not smoking, not drinking, not being loud. An unmarked police car rolled up
and our conversation stopped as we turned our attention to him.
In an acrid and condescending tone, the policeman pointed a finger to the exit of the parking lot
and said, Out.

Let me see your ID! he demanded. I asked why again, reminding him that it was a legitimate

my hand.
And may I have your name? I asked. He is Detective X.
A fine representation of the Marching Knights you are! he yelled. I must have missed the meeting

His last name sounded familiar. I should have known better than to ask if I knew his son. The

saying yes.
As three more police cars showed up, Officer X instructed everyone to go home except for me

The Importance Of Naturalism In Eveline
Eveline is a short story in the genre of naturalism which means that it centres on life as it is and it
stresses the importance of the environment and heredity in shaping human destiny. It was written
by James Joyce in 1904 as part of a collection of portraits of people who lived in Dublin around
1900 titled Dubliners. The story features only two main settings Eveline s house and the port and
lasts only the span of one day. It was written by Joyce to show the monotonous lives of the people
who lived in Dublinat the time.
Joyce was openly critical of Irish parochialism and he wrote Eveline to prove his belief that
Ireland does not permit the development of individuality, as the character Eveline is presented
by Joyce to be the absolute epitome of Irish parochialism; rather than go after her ambition to
leave Ireland for a better life, Eveline s life is lead by her sense of duty. We see this when
Eveline doubts her ambitions, In her home any way she had shelter and food; she had those
whom she had known all her life about her, The simplistic reasoning that Joyce uses conveys the
absolute autonomy of Eveline s life as her only reasons to not chase her ambition are basic
requirements for most people s lives. Eveline, unfortunately, leads the stereotypical life for a
woman in Ireland around that time as her life was ruled by her sense of duty and the men in her
life rather than by her ambitions and herself. The reason Joyce did this was so he could share the

Film Industry Research Paper
The moving picture was created from a desire to expand our perceptions. The motion picture
industry was a necessary born from a simple format. With the advent of photography between
1816 and 1818 by Frenchman Joseph Niepce, there was a desire for movement which made
cinema inevitable. The first known images were fuzzy images on mental plates. Louis Daguerre
also noted as pioneer of photography; inception of film followed 50 years later. Hollywood, the
modern well oiled machine it is today started with soundless films with no story or plot. The first
phase of films only focused on movement. Overtime, directors grew a desire to create stories,
not just random action. Storytelling began in the early 1900s. In 1903 Edwin Porters created
The Great Train Robbery , one of the first feature action films. Porter told a story of a robbery,
chase and inevitable capture of the bad guys. What short films are today, they were the feature
films of yesterday. It was average that a film would be 5 8 minutes. With the advancement of
technology films did get longer, but directecdtors could only produce one reelers. Filmmakers
had to cram an entire movie on one short reel of film. With the adaption of telling stories, movies

Essay on Tay-Sachs
Tay Sachs
Abstract
Tay Sachs is a disease caused by a mutation to the gene which codes for Hex A. Without Hex A, a
cell cannot degrade GM2 ganglioside into GM3 ganglioside. This results in a build up of
ganglioside s in lysosomes of neurons. The result is varying degrees of mental deterioration. New
DNA based screening is currently being developed to replace the enzyme based screening
techniques that have been used since 1969. This will not only speed up the diagnosis, but also
allow for earlier detection of Tay Sachs by using the parents genotypes.

Intergenerational Abuse And Child Abuse
Introduction
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines child abuse and child maltreatment as all forms of
physical and/or emotional ill treatment, sexual abuse, neglect or negligent treatment or commercial
or other exploitation, resulting in actual or potential harm to the child s health, survival,
development or dignity in the context of a relationship of responsibility, trust or power. Child abuse
has increasingly become a problem in the United States and countries all over the world. Child

It has been noted the vital role that mothers play in a child s healthy development. Therefore if
mothers are abused research done by Sandra A. Graham Bermann, Co Director of the
Interdisciplinary Family Violence Research Program, has shown that Children who were exposed
to parental violence had many more behavioral problems, exhibited significantly more negative
affect, responded less appropriately to situations, were more aggressive with peers, and had more
ambivalent relationships with their caregivers than those from nonviolent families. (Graham
Bermann, S. A., Levendosky, A. A., 1998). Another factor that can play a negative role in a child s
development is that parents may hold unreasonable expectations from their children due to how
they themselves were brought up. Seymour Rosenberg a head of the department of Psychology at
The State University of New Jersey helped their study come to the conclusion that It has also been
shown that abusive parents often have unrealistic expectations for their children expectations based
on distorted perceptions of their children s needs, feelings, and abilities (Herzog, E. P., Gara, M.
A., Rosenberg, S., 1992). Due to this it can cause the child to grow up confused and scared which
may lead them to use the same maltreatment towards their kids which will only further the
intergenerational abuse. However, Research has also shown that

Reggio Emilia Approach Essay

Vygotsky believed that children are actively involved and curious in their own learning and learn
best through social interaction. (Schneider, P., Watkins, R. (1996). He said that play is the biggest
component to developing abilities such as self regulation and language. (Whitebread, 2011). These
two powerful components are predictors of emotional well being and academic achievement
(Whitebread, 2011). However, due, to the state standards children are required to have more

Reggio Emilia is an approach to education that originated in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Children are the
emphasis of the program, it is child led and incorporates project based learning. Reggio Emilia is a
flexible approach to curriculum, in Italian it is called progettazione. (Cross, 2006). The teachers
generalize and wait to see what the children do with the topic and what type of prior knowledge
they will used in the project. (Cross, 2006). The teacher may predict that the children will learn
about a topic and based on the children s reaction and prior knowledge. They may learn
something else that was not expected by the teacher. Teachers take into consideration the interests
of the child, encouraging children and parents to participate to provide provocations. (Cross,

do not prefer to talk as dry wittingly and sarcastically as Canadians, physical and slapstick

Japan, most parents will want children to focus on getting better academic grades, whereas in

A Christmas Memory In Truman Capote s Last Christmas With...
A Christmas Memory is an eloquently written account of Truman Capotes last Christmas with his
dear friend, Sook. The story is set during 1930 s, right after the depression, in a rural Southern part
of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is a sixty something year old woman
who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as, Buddy, throughout the story as that was her
childhood best friend who passed away. Buddy and Sook share a home with other relatives who
throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind. But, the relatives
unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable friendship between the two.
Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with Sook using an engaging
writingstyle with an enthralling use of vivid language.
One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by way of vivid language to make us feel joyful,
giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we

feeling of a gleeful dance as the shadows perform a velvety dance alongside them. The way this
passage is composed gives the reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsively
of loud singing. His whimsical language is taken a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were

Analysis Of High School Based Television Shows Violence...
In high school based television shows there are constant themes of insecurity and the division of
popular kids and the outcasts. Unfortunately, that is how the world works, people are labeled and
associated with certain groups. These labels force people into thinking that they have to look a
certain way or follow popular trends. Just like Susannah Calahan in Brain on Fire, she suffers
from an illness and during her recovery she criticizes herself based off of what society expects
her to look like. Social norms are deeply entrenched in everyone s life to the point where
Susannah tries to hide her sickness and put on a strong face just to avoid being labeled as
abnormal. There is a sense of her fear of being ridiculed and alienated from her loved ones since
she does not fulfill the common image society has on women. Susannah is embarrassed by her
actions, her appearance and she refuses to accept that her new self is even a part of her identity.
Susannah does not view her post illness appearance as acceptable despite having no control over the
outcome. Identity is in fact a matter of social constructionsince Susannah s self esteem and
perception of herself deteriorates as she finds herself deviating from what is considered normal.
One important aspect of Susannah s illness is that it causes her to dramatically shift from a sociable
person to someone who cannot hold a conversation. Throughout the duration of her sickness and

Persuasive Essay On Kangaroos
Good Afternoon
Australia s most iconic marsupial, the Kangaroo, holds a place on our coat arms, currency, severe
sports teams and is our main attraction for tourists, who believe we ride Kangaroos to school.
However, the overpopulation of the animal has led to a long and exasperating debate of whether
Kangaroo s should be culled or harvested .
Culling is commonly referred to the as reducing a population by selective slaughter. It sounds quiet
inhumane when you put it that way, however Kangaroo overpopulation has become a huge issue in
recent years.
While Kangaroos are native Australian animals, they are overpopulated and are a threat to the
environment. In an editorial, published by The Herald Sun, it was estimated that there were about ...

According to the Herald Sun a humane cull is far preferable to a slow death through starvation. It is
more inhumane to condemn these animals to a slow and painful death, than to control the
Kangaroo population in a way that is quick and causes minimal pain.
During a Queensland drought, it was reported by the ABC that a council worker, Chad McLachlan
would drag out roos every morning from underneath buildings, machines or other recreation centres,
due to starvation. Overpopulation of Kangaroos means that they won t have enough bush land to
live on, therefore many Kangaroos will starve to death in a slow manner. Now that is cruel.
The process of becoming a Kangaroo harvester is a lengthy one. The harvesters must undergo
training which is followed by a license. They must adhere to the strict guidelines laid out in the
Federal Government document Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos , which
was created by the help of the RSPCA.
Although, overpopulation is one of the main reasons to harvest Kangaroos, one of the many
benefits of Kangaroo culling include Australia s economy boost. Kangaroos could form the basis of
an extended meat and leather production industry in

The Al Qaeda During The Arabian Peninsula
Upholding all the professionalism, job ethics and integrity, I m pleased to report on the Al Qaeda
in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP): a militant Islamic group with links to AQ primarily based in
Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Indeed, the Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has become great
threat in the whole world.
The Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) which also means the base was developed by
Osama bin laden and others in the early 1980s to aid the war effort in Afghanistan against the

Essay Plato s Symposium
Plato s Symposium
Plato s metaphor of the divided line is essentially two worlds; the world of opinion (the physical
world or the world of becoming/existence) and the world of knowledge (the world of knowledge
or the world of being/essence). This concept is key to the context of The Symposium:
Love. It is important to note that as the speeches evolve throughout this particular work they
parallel this concept. Plato has, in this writer s opinion, reinforced his theory through the speaker s
by outlining the journey from the world of becoming (Phaedrus speech) to the world of being
(Diotima s speech). This being so, Diotima and Socrates (the forms) will be the key focus for which
all previous speakers will ascend each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He introduces Heavenly Aphrodite (heavenly love), which this writer believes equates with
homosexual love, and Common Aphrodite (common love), which would be equivalent to
heterosexual love. Common love according to his view is one that is based on sensuality and
produces children. Heavenly love is based on companionship and involves mental and soul
oriented pursuits. He places a great deal of emphasis on virtue. He goes on to say that heavenly
love is good and only becomes ugly if a lover s motive is exploitation. Pausanias has brought out
one of Diotima s major points, the idea of duality in love, although he is not as thorough. His
overall outlook seems to be mainly homosexual, yet recognizes heterosexual love. Next,
Eryximachus speaks. He compliments Pausanias on his explanation of the dual nature of love and
argues that there should be a balance between the two. He elaborates on that by saying both types
are required for a peaceful existence; one can not exist with out the other.
He uses an analogy that equates love with an ailment. It can be removed or implanted. Basically
he alludes to a bond or bridge between the two types of love which Diotima expands on.
Aristophanes finally gets rid of his hiccups. He attempts to explain love by introducing a myth in
which Zeus splits three types

Abc Legal Case
We all have occasion to disagree with others either at work, in friendships or other social and
community interactions, but most of the time, we are able to resolve these disagreements, if not
completely amicably, at least to the extent that we can still associate with the person or persons
involved. Sadly, this is often not what happens in family disputes, which can quickly escalate into
open warfare with neither side wanting to give ground. If you or someone you know is in an
untenable position in a family dispute, the best option is to seek legal advice as quickly as possible.
Many people lose out in these situations because the emotional entanglements are more difficult to
deal with than the legal ones. They become angry, hurt and frustrated... Show more content on

I wasn t prepared to back down either, as there was valuable property involved, so I contacted
ABC Legal. They were recommended by a friend, and honestly, I don t think I would be where I
am now without their efforts at mediation. We finally came to an agreement without going to
court, and we have both moved on, said Tansy V. There are many occasions where mediation is
not welcome and it is in these situations where ABC Legal is absolutely outstanding in their
knowledge of family law. From de facto relationship issues to financial agreements and
matrimonial property settlements, often involving substantial assets held in complex company
and trust arrangements, ABC Legal has the skills and professionalism necessary to prepare their
clients for the Family Court hearings. My wife and I started our business from scratch 25 years
ago, but as it became more successful, we started having personal problems. By the time we
accepted that the relationship was beyond repair, we had two business ventures employing 35
people, several investment properties, a swag of share holdings and other assets. ABC Legal
represented me in Court and I walked away with what was fair and reasonable. I think without their
expertise, it could have been much worse, said Vernon

Toaster Oven Essay
We have all had days where we just need one little piece of toast browned to perfection and not
have to turn on an entire oven and heat up the whole kitchen in the process. Or other times when
you have a house full coming over, and it seems as if you need just more oven rack to bake the
rolls on or to keep a dish warm while the meat finishes up cooking. Or maybe, it is a summer
evening and a pizza sounds amazing except the kitchen is still blazing from a record setting heat
wave blasting through, and the last thing you want to do is generate more heat in your kitchen.
The list of examples could go on and on as to why a toaster oven is an extremely essential kitchen
appliance to own alongside your conventional oven. Its small size, versatile ... Show more content

Along with saving money on energy because of its stature, the small size allows the toaster oven to
fit just about anywhere in the kitchen. Due to its compact size, a toaster oven can sit on top of
other appliances or on countertops, making it an easy appliance to place in the kitchen.
The size you choose determines what items you can cook inside. Obviously, the larger the toaster
oven, the higher the cost. However, considering you can use your toaster oven in much the same
way you can use a conventional oven, investing in a larger toaster oven is prudent.
Different Cooking Elements
Toaster ovens have various cooking elements, depending on what you are looking for. Many of
them come with a convection function. This means generated heat is continually circulated
throughout the oven by means of a fan. The movement creates an even cooking environment,
ensuring that the top and the bottom are cooked evening. That means heat spots are eliminated:
one area of a pan of cookies does not cook more than another. Convection ovens also cut cooking
down by almost a third, saving you not only time but also electricity and of course,

The Trouble With Wilderness By Cronon
People in the US have assigned many different meanings to wilderness. Wilderness can be
viewed as a nonhuman world where we can go to survive and escape reality. Wilderness is an
unexplored land that can mean something entirely different for every individual. For many
Americans, wilderness stands as the last remaining place where we can go and have fun. In
America today, people go to the wild, to party and enjoy their weekend. I ve come to realize that
everyone s perspective of wildernesscomes from media, stories and their personal experiences. As
people have given meaning to wilderness, I also have given wilderness a different meaning.
Wilderness can be viewed as a place of escape where we can go and run away from our problems. I
see wilderness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two views: one that it is a solution to our problematic relationships while others reason
that it s a place where we can go insane. Wilderness in fact has been seen as a place of youth and
childhood, in which we can abandon our past. In William s Cronon article, The Trouble with
Wilderness he talks about how we escape to the wilderness to forget our past. Cronon states,
Seen as the bold landscape of frontier heroism, it is the place of youth and childhood, into which
men escape by abandoning their pasts and entering a world of freedom where the constraints of
civilization fade into memory (Cronon 427). This quote is a great representation of how we can
see wilderness as a place of escape because we enter a world of freedom that fade away our
problems. The wild is important to have because it s the last remaining place where we can turn
to escape from our own too muchness. When we enter the wild we are free with no customs to
follow. The wild allows us to be less responsible and free to venture away from society. This quote
has a great connection with my perspective because it s saying that it s a place of renewal,
relaxation and peace. Therefore, wilderness is a place of refuge. No matter in what perspective
we see it, wilderness offers us a refuge that we can use to escape the cares and troubles of the world,
in which our past has trapped us

Essay about The Rides Full Tilt by Neal Shusterman
This novel tells the story of a sixteen year old named Blake. One day, when Blake went to Six
Flags with his two friends, Maggie (with whom Blake is in love with) and her boyfriend, Russ,
and his brother, Quinn, Blake received an invitation to a carnival from a strange, gorgeous girl,
Cassandra. Blake thought that the idea of going to the carnivalis stupid, until he realized his
brother stole the invitation. Blake convinced his two friends to tag along with him, so they could
go find Quinn. As the characters entered the carnival, they learned that they have to survive seven
deadly rides by dawn. The first ride that the characters experienced was a carousel. Normally, if you
rode on a carousel, you would ride on plastic or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the bumper car ride, Blake, by himself, made his way to the next ride. As he kept exploring
the area, he found a swinging boat obviously the next ride. It seemed like a regular swinging
boat ride at first, however, then, turns into a real life ship, out at sea, with a blue whale trying to
destroy it. After trying to survive on the ride for a while, Blake realized that his mother?s
boyfriend, Carl, was actually the captain of the ship, which did not seem to be true. Blake finally
found Quinn clinging from a rope up atop the boat and they linked arms and jumped off the
edge of the boat, into the deep blue sea. Four rides done, three to go, Blake kept telling himself.
The next ride was a mirror maze, the kind you would find at a local carnival. As Blake stepped
into the mirror maze, his slim, teenaged figure slowly transformed into different creatures.
Blake saw this clown, this extremely ugly clown, following him. As Blake took a close look at
it, he realized? it was Maggie! Maggie told Blake about how Russ and Maggie crashed their
bumper car, so they split up. Maggie and Blake quickly dodged through the different mirrors
together, so they could get out of that ride as soon as possible. As Blake and Maggie were just
about done with the whole maze, Blake accidentally let go of Maggie?s hand? and Maggie went
through a mirror and could not hear or see anything Blake did that tried to attract her attention. Her

There s a difference between equal opportunity and affirmative action policies. Equal employment opportunity (EEO) means freedom from discriminationon the basis of protected classes such as race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, disability or genetic information. A body of scientific research over the past 50 years shows that people notice race, as well as gender, wealth, and even weight. Should racial identities matter? I don t think so. We should see the person for who they are and not what color of skin they have. I like the say don t judge a book by its cover because I believe that you should get to know a person before you make any sort of judgment or evaluations of them. There is something called the power of racial bias, which is often concealed. Some think that calling it a racial bias lessens the blow of being called a racist. People claiming bias can admit they may have acted in racially insensitive ways but were unaware of their subconscious motivations. Someone can think racist thoughts, but never actually behave in a racist manner. Most people don t self identify as a racist because they don t take any action upon it. People think that just because they don t act upon it, that they shouldn t be considered racist; however, thoughts and views can be a small form of racism. For example, if you saw a large black man at night would you be a little scared? What about if that man were white? Would you flinch a little in both scenarios? The sun was shining bright and the clouds were gleaming with excitement. It was Thursday. My team called it Championship Thursday because we were fighting to win a national title in Myrtle Beach. As I arrived at the field for our first game which was the first game of bracket play. Yesterday was pool play. We played 6 pool play games and won them all so that put us in the number one seed. That s mean we had a pretty easy game ahead of us. As the day continued we one 2 more. We had a little break after the third game. When we stepped on the field I had a good feeling that we were gonna step off the field as national champions. After we got everything set up in our dugout we went to warm up. As we were hitting in the batting cages teams were coming up to us and saying how amazing we were and how bad they wanted us to win this game. This made us even more pumped to win. After we got back from the batting cages it was so packed with people and there were many softball and baseballteams there to watch the game. We had to take grounders and pop flies. • 10. Evaluation Of The Research And Creative Work UROP Application Spring 2016 Christopher Jones Mentor: Trafton Drew Department of Psychology Statement of the Problem/Topic of the Research or Creative Work Visual Search is important in our everyday lives, and search relies on cues from the environment and uses object similarity to guide search. While much research has been done to see how visual similarity between objects affects visual search (Duncan and Humphreys 1989), very little research has been done to see how different types of similarity between objects compare in their effects on visual search. Specifically the proposed project would investigate how semantic similarity and visual similarity influence visual search using real world objects. The usage of real world objects is important because many laboratory visual search tasks are not reflective of visual search in a real world setting. Neural measures gathered from EEG (Electroencephalogram) data in the form of ERP (Event Related Potential) components can be used to measure onset of attentional processing, as well as how distracting certain objects may or may not be. Specifically the N2PC reflects a shift in attention to a visual target. Using this ERP component, the neural differences between visual and semantic similarity in objects can be evaluated and compared between participants. While research shows there is a behavioral effect between visual and semantic similarity among distractors in visual search (De Groot, Huettig, and Olivers 2016), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Sex Trafficking Is The Violation Of Human Rights Good Luck Sex trafficking is the violation of human rights: equality, health, and dignity. Today ninety six percent of victims of sexual exploitation are women and girls. (Shared Hope International) There is an extensive debate on how women are viewed as an object rather than an actual human being. The portrayal of women today is sickening. Women are shown as a sex object to men rather than a person. In this horrific act of self destruction, women are exposed to sexual performance in trade off to the buyer or much known as a sex trafficker, for money, drugs, and or values of life. Traffickers trap women, child, or even men into guarantee relationships, gifts, and other false promises. This is known as a Commercial Sex Act. Women who are involved in human traffickinghave their complete existence taken from them. Most victims that are involved in sex trafficking do not have a peaceful ending. Sex and human trafficking is a prime example of how our society over sexualizes women. The whole academic of human trafficking shows that women are stigmatized as weak individuals. It is mainly from how they are treated, many are known know as a Sex Slave after the entertainment from the traffickers has been done. The results of human trafficking are degrading to the women in society. It may be known as prostitution but what some people do not understand or care for, it is a Federal Law identified as Sex trafficking. Human trafficking not only happens in the United States of American but all parts of this alarming world. This form of slaverydenies the freedom to 20.9 million human beings in the world around us. (Polaris) Taken uses two clueless American teenagers, Maggie Grace (Kim) and Katie Cassidy (Amanda), who certainly have no knowledge about leaving the United States, alone. It is shown through speech and actions from the age range of children to elders. When in effect, racism can become violent and flip lives upside down. Fast forward past all the civil rights movements and efforts to halt racism, and today s society still has an abundance of racism. Eradicating racism all together has been the goal since the beginning of time, but I believe to make people aware of actual damage it causes is the best way to advocate how wrong this discrimination is. One of the most impactful program I have seen to spread awareness of racism is the television hit series titled Switched at Birth . During the specific episode, a select group of white students placed cotton balls throughout the lawn of the Black Student Union. Since these said students were white and rich, they got away with it. This lack of punishment from authority for such a horrendous act created an uprising within the Union. Not only did they peacefully protest, but one member went on a hunger strike to gain attention. The school refused to partake in the expulsion of the students and requests of equality from the union, so the one member continued her hunger strike. Soon after this refusal of acknowledgment, the said member was sent to the hospital as she had passed out and almost lost her life. • 25. Television Violence Essay Television violence and its effects on viewers has been a controversial issue for many years. Some viewers believe that there is an increasingly large amount of violence on television and this widespread public concern has quot;led to calls for stricter controls on the depiction of violence in programmes quot; (Gunter and McAleer 1990:92). Exactly how much violence is there on television though? Many cultivation theorists have studied this, acquiring data in the form of content analysis. They agree on a definition of a violent act, for example Gerbner in his study used the definition, quot;an overt expression of physical force against self or other, compelling action against ones will on pain of being hurt or killed, or actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clearly obvious from the research already done concerning television and its effects, that violence is quite prevalent on British television. Of more concern however is the effect that those can have on its viewers. Does the violence on television really increase the violent attitudes and behaviour in individuals? Violence on television can do one of three things. The first is make us more violent (Huesmann 1982), the second is make us less violent (Feshbach 1972) and the third is to have no effect at all (Freedman 1984, Kaplan and Singer 1976). Most evidence has supported the first argument namely that television violence does increase our own violent behaviour. There are four main effects that cause this violent behaviour when viewing it on television. The first of these affects is arousal. It is believed that a violent programme increases levels of arousal and thus causes us to become more violent as we are not only excited by the programme but also agitated and nervous. This effect is not limited to violent programmes however, as a comedy programme may induce arousal in the form of amusement in the same way as a violent programme induces arousal in the form of anger. It is the type of arousal that occurs in the first place that determines the effect the programme has. Condry (1989:11) found that suspense programmes, comedy programmes and sport events ... • 29. The Importance Of Naturalism In Eveline Eveline is a short story in the genre of naturalism which means that it centres on life as it is and it stresses the importance of the environment and heredity in shaping human destiny. It was written by James Joyce in 1904 as part of a collection of portraits of people who lived in Dublin around 1900 titled Dubliners. The story features only two main settings Eveline s house and the port and lasts only the span of one day. It was written by Joyce to show the monotonous lives of the people who lived in Dublinat the time. Joyce was openly critical of Irish parochialism and he wrote Eveline to prove his belief that Ireland does not permit the development of individuality, as the character Eveline is presented by Joyce to be the absolute epitome of Irish parochialism; rather than go after her ambition to leave Ireland for a better life, Eveline s life is lead by her sense of duty. We see this when Eveline doubts her ambitions, In her home any way she had shelter and food; she had those whom she had known all her life about her, The simplistic reasoning that Joyce uses conveys the absolute autonomy of Eveline s life as her only reasons to not chase her ambition are basic requirements for most people s lives. Eveline, unfortunately, leads the stereotypical life for a woman in Ireland around that time as her life was ruled by her sense of duty and the men in her life rather than by her ambitions and herself. The reason Joyce did this was so he could share the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another factor that can play a negative role in a child s development is that parents may hold unreasonable expectations from their children due to how they themselves were brought up. Seymour Rosenberg a head of the department of Psychology at The State University of New Jersey helped their study come to the conclusion that It has also been shown that abusive parents often have unrealistic expectations for their children expectations based on distorted perceptions of their children s needs, feelings, and abilities (Herzog, E. Unfortunately, that is how the world works, people are labeled and associated with certain groups. These labels force people into thinking that they have to look a certain way or follow popular trends. Just like Susannah Calahan in Brain on Fire, she suffers from an illness and during her recovery she criticizes herself based off of what society expects her to look like. Social norms are deeply entrenched in everyone s life to the point where Susannah tries to hide her sickness and put on a strong face just to avoid being labeled as abnormal. There is a sense of her fear of being ridiculed and alienated from her loved ones since she does not fulfill the common image society has on women. Susannah is embarrassed by her actions, her appearance and she refuses to accept that her new self is even a part of her identity. Susannah does not view her post illness appearance as acceptable despite having no control over the outcome. Identity is in fact a matter of social constructionsince Susannah s self esteem and perception of herself deteriorates as she finds herself deviating from what is considered normal. Common love according to his view is one that is based on sensuality and produces children. Heavenly love is based on companionship and involves mental and soul oriented pursuits. He places a great deal of emphasis on virtue. He goes on to say that heavenly love is good and only becomes ugly if a lover s motive is exploitation. Pausanias has brought out one of Diotima s major points, the idea of duality in love, although he is not as thorough. His overall outlook seems to be mainly homosexual, yet recognizes heterosexual love. Next, Eryximachus speaks. He compliments Pausanias on his explanation of the dual nature of love and argues that there should be a balance between the two. He elaborates on that by saying both types are required for a peaceful existence; one can not exist with out the other. He uses an analogy that equates love with an ailment. It can be removed or implanted. Basically he alludes to a bond or bridge between the two types of love which Diotima expands on. Aristophanes finally gets rid of his hiccups. He attempts to explain love by introducing a myth in which Zeus splits three types ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Abc Legal Case We all have occasion to disagree with others either at work, in friendships or other social and community interactions, but most of the time, we are able to resolve these disagreements, if not completely amicably, at least to the extent that we can still associate with the person or persons involved. • 45. Toaster Oven Essay We have all had days where we just need one little piece of toast browned to perfection and not have to turn on an entire oven and heat up the whole kitchen in the process. Or other times when you have a house full coming over, and it seems as if you need just more oven rack to bake the rolls on or to keep a dish warm while the meat finishes up cooking. Or maybe, it is a summer evening and a pizza sounds amazing except the kitchen is still blazing from a record setting heat wave blasting through, and the last thing you want to do is generate more heat in your kitchen. The list of examples could go on and on as to why a toaster oven is an extremely essential kitchen appliance to own alongside your conventional oven. Its small size, versatile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with saving money on energy because of its stature, the small size allows the toaster oven to fit just about anywhere in the kitchen. Due to its compact size, a toaster oven can sit on top of other appliances or on countertops, making it an easy appliance to place in the kitchen. The size you choose determines what items you can cook inside. Obviously, the larger the toaster oven, the higher the cost. However, considering you can use your toaster oven in much the same way you can use a conventional oven, investing in a larger toaster oven is prudent. Different Cooking Elements Toaster ovens have various cooking elements, depending on what you are looking for. Many of them come with a convection function. This means generated heat is continually circulated throughout the oven by means of a fan. The movement creates an even cooking environment, ensuring that the top and the bottom are cooked evening. That means heat spots are eliminated: one area of a pan of cookies does not cook more than another. Convection ovens also cut cooking down by almost a third, saving you not only time but also electricity and of course, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Trouble With Wilderness By Cronon People in the US have assigned many different meanings to wilderness. Wilderness can be viewed as a nonhuman world where we can go to survive and escape reality. Wilderness is an unexplored land that can mean something entirely different for every individual. For many Americans, wilderness stands as the last remaining place where we can go and have fun. In America today, people go to the wild, to party and enjoy their weekend. I ve come to realize that everyone s perspective of wildernesscomes from media, stories and their personal experiences. As people have given meaning to wilderness, I also have given wilderness a different meaning. Wilderness can be viewed as a place of escape where we can go and run away from our problems. I see wilderness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two views: one that it is a solution to our problematic relationships while others reason that it s a place where we can go insane. Wilderness in fact has been seen as a place of youth and childhood, in which we can abandon our past. In William s Cronon article, The Trouble with Wilderness he talks about how we escape to the wilderness to forget our past. Cronon states, Seen as the bold landscape of frontier heroism, it is the place of youth and childhood, into which men escape by abandoning their pasts and entering a world of freedom where the constraints of civilization fade into memory (Cronon 427). This quote is a great representation of how we can see wilderness as a place of escape because we enter a world of freedom that fade away our problems. The wild is important to have because it s the last remaining place where we can turn to escape from our own too muchness. When we enter the wild we are free with no customs to follow. The wild allows us to be less responsible and free to venture away from society. This quote has a great connection with my perspective because it s saying that it s a place of renewal, relaxation and peace. Therefore, wilderness is a place of refuge. No matter in what perspective we see it, wilderness offers us a refuge that we can use to escape the cares and troubles of the world, in which our past has trapped us ... As he kept exploring the area, he found a swinging boat obviously the next ride. It seemed like a regular swinging boat ride at first, however, then, turns into a real life ship, out at sea, with a blue whale trying to destroy it. After trying to survive on the ride for a while, Blake realized that his mother?s boyfriend, Carl, was actually the captain of the ship, which did not seem to be true. Blake finally found Quinn clinging from a rope up atop the boat and they linked arms and jumped off the edge of the boat, into the deep blue sea. Four rides done, three to go, Blake kept telling himself. The next ride was a mirror maze, the kind you would find at a local carnival. As Blake stepped into the mirror maze, his slim, teenaged figure slowly transformed into different creatures. Blake saw this clown, this extremely ugly clown, following him. As Blake took a close look at it, he realized? it was Maggie! Maggie told Blake about how Russ and Maggie crashed their bumper car, so they split up. Maggie and Blake quickly dodged through the different mirrors together, so they could get out of that ride as soon as possible. As Blake and Maggie were just about done with the whole maze, Blake accidentally let go of Maggie?s hand? and Maggie went through a mirror and could not hear or see anything Blake did that tried to attract her attention.
