Hunters In The Snow By Tobias Wolff
Tobias Wolff is a writer known for his memoirs and realistic short stories. Hunters in the Snow is a
story about three friends, Tub, Frank, and Kenny, who go hunting in the snow. Wolff writes about
humanity through the friendship of the three friends and the events they go through. In the
beginning of the story is Tub, he is standing on the sidewalk. A truck comes around the corner, in
the truck is Kenny, the driver, and Frank. The trio heads towards the woods where Kenny wanted to
hunt. Crossing through the fences, Tub has trouble going through but Frank and Kenny offer him
no help at all. On the way back, they notice obvious deertrails that lead into a no huntingzone. After
getting permission from the owner, they followed the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is hinted at when Tub scarfs down two sandwiches and cookies when they were hunting.
Through the story, Tub gained confidence to confront his friends and the courage to reveal his
secret (86 99). The mysterious and calm man of the trio is Frank, a protagonist. He is first
introduced sitting in the truck while picking up Tub. Frank is laid back, yet joins with Kenny to
insult Tub. Though later, Frank apologizes to Tub. When Tub tells him his secret, Frank is
supportive and buys him four plates of pancakes. Frank believes in letting nature run its course
and not fight against it. After losing the deer, Frank calms Kenny saying Relax [...] You can t
hurry nature. If we re meant to get that deer, we ll get it. If we re not, we won t (89).
Contradictory to his personality is his wedding ring, a gold ring with an F in diamonds. When
they begin hunting, Kenny hints about a certain babysitter, which aggravates Frank. When he and
Tub stop to warm themselves, Frank exposes his secret that he is having an affair with his fifteen
year old babysitter. He says with amazement that she has opened up new worlds to him, the cause
of his hippie personality. Frank commits the crime of lust; however, he takes into consideration of
his wife and children if he divorces. Frank is torn between his secret lover and family, but gains a
trustworthy friend on his side to help him through it (86 97). The leader of

Compare And Contrast North American Colonialism
GKE Task 3Linda Mckee
A.
Colonialism is a significant part of history especially in North America. North America was
originally colonized by Europeans in the 10th century by Norse sailors who colonized what are
now parts of Greenland and Canada, followed later by many European nations including; Great
Britain, France, and Spain. The most notorious and first of these Europeans was Christopher
Columbus who began colonizing America in 1492 on behalf of Spain. The reason for Christopher
Columbus even finding North America was an accident due to he was sailing west in hopes of an
alternate route to India but instead landed in the Caribbean. However though he was unsuccessful,
this event opened up the door for other nations in hopes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The main similarity is that both revolutions involved getting away from British rule and both used
violence at some point. Although in the Indian revolution violence was not successful. Also in both
revolutions the British tried to use force to halt the revolutions early on by sending soldiers to
collect taxes in the United States and sending soldiers to end the Indian rebellion of 1857. However
the tactics used by the revolutionaries differed dramatically. In the Indian revolution the
revolutionaries refused to work and started to only buy Indian goods which had huge effects on the
British economy that were relying on these transactions where as in the American revolution the
tactic was to simply use force to drive the British out. (Sharma, S., 2010).

The Daily Show On The Congressional Record
The Daily Show is on the congressional record. It occurred during a debate on the Blunt
Amendment, which would allow employers to decline to provide birth control as part of their
health care plans.
On February 28th, 2012 California Senator Barbara boxer attempted to quote The Daily Show bid
on the floor of the senate. Senator Boxer said: Jon Stewart took this issue on and said: Well, I ll tell
you something, I love Blunt Amendment because he says I am an employer and I believe that
humor is the best medicine.
On March 1st, 2012, Stewart dedicated the entire episode of his show to talk about the Blunt
Amendment and the controversy around it. He, as usual, mocked, poked fun at politicians and
approached the absurdity of passing the bill. The Blunt Amendment was sponsored by Senator
Blunt that would override Obama s Administration s new contraception plan, and allow any
employer to refuse to cover any kind of health case service by citing moral reasons.
The amendment was defeated in the Senate by a vote of 51 to 48. . Staci Beavers argued that Jon
Stewart brought up the Blunt Amendment debate, while no other news or media outlet did.
Example 3: The Zadroga Bill
Jon Stewart attracts considerable news media in many politicized issues. He played an important
role in pressuring lawmakers to pass legislation, providing health care to 9/11 responders, in which
Stewart was credited for the Zadroga bill s passage by the White house and other media and
political news

Drosophila Lab Report
Introduction: The Drosophila project was fundamentally conducted to determine potential
regulators of the wingless pathway in Drosophila Melanogaster. All the experiments in this project
were used to establish two things. Firstly, the location of the transposon insertion and secondly, the
effect the genes near the transposon insertion had on the wingless pathway. These two things were
used to ascertain the potential regulators of the wingless pathway. We were assigned unknown
#2812 for this experiment. Drosophila Melanogasterwas used as a model organism in this
experiment. Drosophila are extensively used biological experiments, especially experiments that
involve genetics. These flies have characteristics like high reproductive rate, short life cycle and
only 4 chromosomes which makes them a good model system. There were four primary
experiments that were preformed in this project: balancer crosses, GMR crosses, meiotic mapping
and PCR and Sequencing. Balancer crosses were performed to identify the chromosome which
contained insertion. Meiotic mapping provided the a more precise position of the insert on the
chromosome. Thirdly, the GMR crosses were used to to see if the insert had an effect on the
wingless pathway additionally, if the transposon had an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Language Intimacy in Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez...
In Hunger of Memory, author Richard Rodriguez describes his experiences as a Mexican
immigrant. He tells anecdotes about his childhood in order to analyze the pressures which culture
change imposed on him. Rodriguez also experienced guilt because he felt he had abandoned his
Mexican roots by learning English, ceasing to speak Spanish. He then comes to the realization that
intimacy is found in the feelingbetween two people conversing, not in the language in which they
are conversing. Richard in the process of self visualization becomes annoyed with himself and
certain things that he sees around him.
Rodriguez is ashamed. He is ashamed with the fact his espanol is no longer his main language. The
author presents, I grew up a victim to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rodriguez took on tremendous amount of responsibility for these changes. He took more
responsibility than he probably should have; due to circumstances beyond his control he reached
the stage he was in. Rodriguez portrayed this feeling when he mentioned, I felt that I had shattered
the intimate bond that had once held the family close. This original sin against my family told
whenever anyone addressed me in Spanish and I responded confounded. (231) His family members
and his Americanization had taken that bond away. He felt that losing his ability to speak Spanish
removed his ability to communicate with his family on an intimate level. Spanish used to be a
secret bond between them and what tied them together.
Rodriguez shows how even language barriers can be overcome with intimacy. He showed that even
old bonds could be made new. He introduces us to the relationship he had with his grandmother.
This relationship with his grandmother displayed a bond that could not be broken, he explains this
when he mentions, The communication of intimacy passes through the word to enliven its sound.
But it cannot be held by the word but on person. (234) He demonstrates that the intimacy was much
more that just the word that was

The Human Condition Essay
The Human Condition
Does life ever seem pointless and discouraging? In Albert Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus
describes the correlation between Sisyphus s fate and the human condition. In the selection,
everyday is the same for Sisyphus. Sisyphus is condemned to rolling a rock up a mountain for
eternity. Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus forces one to contemplate Sisyphus s fate, how it relates to
the human condition, and how it makes the writer feel about her part in life.
Camus states if this myth is tragic, that is because its hero is conscious (Camus). Condemned by
the gods, Sisyphus does not acknowledge his fate until after the rock rolls back down the mountain
and he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he starts to find meaning in his fate, starts to enjoy what he does, almost to take pride in
his work, like a true laborer. Thus, Sisyphus is the absurd hero, because, like people he has a goal
he believes that he can ultimately accomplish (Camus). He, in his own small way spites the gods
by taking delight in pushing this rock over and over again.
How might one feel about this essay and her position in life? The writer feels as though life in
essence is futile and hopeless (Camus). For example, day after day the writer continually gets
up and goes to school. Many will feel disheartened by another day of doing things he or she may
not want to do. Nevertheless, one would rather go to school and endure the torture of being in
school than sitting at home for hours on end doing absolutely nothing or at a job she may not
enjoy. Hence, why students welcome the summer, but after a few weeks they yearn to be in
school again or why the depressed are depressed. The writer is no different. One is happiest when
there are responsibilities to fill one s day rather than a day without promise.
Life can seem futile and hopeless. However, it only seems that way to people who don t take
pleasure in what they do. Sisyphus realizes that if he just sat around all day instead of pushing that
rock, he would never

101 Chambers Review
James Taylor

State and Local Government
Review of 101 Chambers written by Peverill Squire and Keith E. Hamm Squire and Hamm begin
their writings with introducing the reader to the historical lineage of American legislatures and
their evolution from colonial days to the modern government. The colonial institutions have greatly
influenced the design of the new Congress under the Constitution (Squire and Hamm 34). The
bicameral system had its originations in colonial governments and the original colonial
constitutions had a large impact on the future constitutions. The bicameral legislation structure that
is now common in the United States began in the colonial era. The original colonies has systems
that greatly resembled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Squire and Hamm discussed how the modern day legislatures in the United States come from
common ancestors and the evolution from the unicameral system to the bicameral. The authors
also show how the idea of institutional diffusion occurred with one state beginning to form a
constitution and structure, then others following suit soon after in most cases. Member service
longevity is not a trend that can be easily compared among states due to conflicting constitutional
laws and the ability to move into higher elective offices. When comparing state governments to
Congress, the states have a higher turnover rate because there are two sources of turnover that
the Congress does not have to deal with. One is that certain state chambers are described as
springboard states, where the representatives have a better chance of gaining a higher elected
office than other states do. When the legislator has a chance to rise in the government there tends
to be a higher turnover rate. These legislators also tend to be more responsive to constituents on
policy preferences than are legislators in other sorts of chambers (Maestas 2000). Term limits also
play a large role in the turnover rates in state governments compared to that of Congress rates.
States that have term limits seem to have higher rates due to the fact that legislators in term limited
legislatures are less obliged to focus on their

DNA Based Conviction Case Study
The first DNA based conviction in the United States occurred shortly after in 1987 when the
Circuit Court in Orange County, Florida, convicted Tommy Lee Andrews of rape after DNA tests
matched his DNA from a blood sample with that of semen traces found in a rape victim (Calandro,
2005). It was two years later that DNAwas again ruled admissible in a Virginia state ruling. In the
years that followed the use of DNA in trial proceeding was not disputed. It was not until the
technique of obtaining the evidence was more largely used did the practice become questionable.

of a landmark United States civil rights case. Brown was in third grade at the time, and sought to
enroll at Sumner School in Topeka, Kansas(wiki). The day it all started her Father (Leon

Essay On A Man For All Seasons And Hamlet
Compare A Man for All Seasons and Hamlet Essay The literary texts A Man for All Seasons and
Hamlet both have the same underlying theme of one s ability to make decisions in a world of
corruption. Robert Bolt criticizes society by commenting on the corruption in the political and
religious systems, which are supposed to be tools to provide justice for all individuals. Whereas,
Hamletis play that discusses how the protagonist is unable to follow through with his decisions to
avenge his father s murder. Throughout these works, the authors illustrate, through a variety of
characters the ability of making decisions when society s political and religious systems are
corrupt. In this classic piece of literature, the main characters depict the... Show more content on

During both the Elizabethan Era and King Henry s reign the political and religious systems of
society were corrupt. In the play Hamlet, there is clear evidence of corruption and weakening of
the state under Claudius s rule. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark depicts Shakespeare
s intellectual ability of not only reflecting political and religious norms, but also of commenting
on how political and religious power can lead to corruption within humanity. In A Man for All
Seasons, the people of England let society and political leaders dictate their morals and values.
The characters Wolsey, Cromwell, and the Pope are political/religious leaders that forsake their
conscience, which means becoming corrupted. During these era s, the Common Man followed
their Kings and Queens and if the political officials of England are corrupted, society will follow,
leading to a route of destruction. Therefore, this affects how individuals make decisions according
to society s political and religious norms because if society s norms become corrupted then so do
the decisions made by individuals. For example, in A Man for All Seasons, the Common Man liked
and supported Thomas More however, they decided to remain silent, which is why they are also
indirectly responsible for More s death. This displays that in a corrupted society individuals are
likely to make decisions that are unknowingly corrupt just to fit society s

Maya Angelo Essay
If I could have the honor of meeting that one person it would be Maya Angelo. She was an
inspirational and phenomenal woman of her decade. Not only was she an actress and poet, she
was a mother too. Maya Angelo was a beautiful black woman in her time that stood for what was
just. She experienced slavery, and even endured it. Her legacy and history is passed on through
many of her books like I know why the caged bird sings , or through her poems such as A raisin in

school and in church. Every time there was a talent show or some major event where one would
have to stand in front of a crowd and prove themselves. I would always choose one of Maya
Angelo s sassy, tongue twisting poems that was sure to get the audience excited and involved.
One thing my sister and I were sure of was that choosing a selection by Ms. Angelo we couldn t

woman who blessed the world with her thoughts through different writing pieces. She is a role
model to me, because she speaks the truth. Maya Angelo has been the winner of the Noble Peace
Prize and is a renowned best selling author. I say ask anyone about her and they will know of her,
or at least her writings.
I would defiantly love the opportunity to meet Maya Angelo to really try and pick her brain. I
would ask her how she endured the hard times, or what her inspiration as a young woman
growing up was. I would even try and ease a few personal informal questions in such as, what did
you do for fun on a Friday night, or what was your dream career. I could only imagine how

Effects Of Betrayal In The Renaissance
The end of the Middle Ages and the flowering of the Renaissance brought many shifts to European
societal structure. The face of Christianity changed considerably from the fourteenth century to the
mid sixteenth century, beginning with disagreement over who should hold absolute power, the
Pope or the Holy Roman Emperor. While the corporate Catholic church had once maintained a
fairly unified influence on society, a more nuanced form of Christianitybegan developing, leading
to reformed religious groups with opposing views, namely the Protestants and Anglicans. In the
wake of differing opinions, people s group identification determined what people they sided with
and who they wouldn t tolerate. With more complex religious and political perspectives, people
could distance themselves ideologically from peers, family, and leaders. Frequent mentions of
treacherous actions within the literature of this time demonstrates that these differing views made
people feel betrayed by their associates. The idea of betrayal is prominent in the lives and texts of
several authors of this period, including Dante, Thomas More, and NiccolГІ Machiavelli. From a
Christian perspective, betrayal was a grave sinbefitting serious punishment, while it was irrational
from a Humanist perspective and an inevitable, even beneficial part of mankind from an amoral
perspective. During the tumultuous political and religious climate of the High Middle Ages and
Renaissance, conflicting sociopolitical groupings and

Persuasion, The, And Free Choice Essay
Persuasion has been around as long as anyone could remember, from persuasion in the Aristotle era
to present day persuasion, it has been defined in many ways. There are many common themes that
are associated with these different definitions. Activity/process, attempt to induce change, change in
beliefs, attitudes, or behaviors, transmission, and free choice is a few of the common themes
presented throughout time. (Perloff, 1933) The art of persuasionhas always been a part of society,
through many techniques people have now been able to persuade others. Techniques such as
attention getting, confidence building, desire, urgency stressing, and response seeking are how
society gets persuaded. These techniques are used in print/digital advertising, TV commercials,
politics, etc.
This is important to know, due to the fact that some persuaders are just using techniques to build
sales, con their way into something, or simply getting the people to give into their beliefs.
Therefore, people could be believing something that isn t actually doing what they claim it does.
Recently, the use of persuasive tactics has been very blunt in politics, due to the 2016 Election.
Both sides (Republican and Democrat) were using techniques in which connected with the public,
thus making this election very nerve wrecking. Other industries who are very dominant in
persuasion is the fashion industry due to women being more susceptible to advertising in which

Disruption-Tolerant Networking Essay
Survey of Routing protocols of Delay Tolerant Networks Bansari Chauhan Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering Michigan State University East Lansing, USA chauha10@msu.edu
Abstract Delay Tolerant Networks are intermittent networks which don t have constant
connectivity between its nodes. Though it has evolved from mobile ad hoc network (MANET),
its protocols cannot be used because of intermittency. They have finite coverage of bandwidth,
nodes that are scattered widely (which can be mobile), limited energy resources, variable delay
and data rates that vary according to direction. This leads to high error rate. Such networks can be
in extreme terrestrial locations or planned networks in space. Since DTNs are prone to... Show more

Thus, conventional routing strategies cannot be used in DTNs, thus new routing protocols need
to be devised which are quite different from the conventional ones. Other features of DTNs
include lack of constant connectivity between end to end nodes. Moreover, since there are no
immediate path connections for data packets to reach their destinations, the latency for data
delivery is high, and thus, data rates are low. Other problems also include long queuing delays
and finite longevity of a single node. Transporting or transferring data from source to destination
is called as routing. Since DTNs have scarce resources, it is important to utilize these resources
wisely and new techniques need to be devised which can do that. For efficient routing in DTNs,
nodes need to keep information about link establishment in future and use buffer resources
carefully to save power. DTNs mostly use the technique of store and carry forward nodes, since
there is no way to detect which nodes can efficiently deliver the data packets. This makes the
security and reliability of data a challenging issue when dealing with DTNs, which is why DTNs
can be differentiated from its parent network, MANET. This paper aims to include, classify and
organize a range of protocols to deliver a comprehensive analysis. Variety of

There are only a few firms that make up this industry and they have control over the price. These
companies have high barriers to entry the market. The products they produce are similar which
cause competition. There is both good and bad when it comes to oligopoly and monopolies.
Some good things about oligopoly are by developing product innovations and taking advantage
of economies of scale. With oligopoly it is more likely to expand production capabilities,
promote economic growth, and they develop change that advances the level of technology (
Oligopoly, 2000). Some bad things about oligopoly is that they tend to be inefficient in the
allocation of resources and promotes the concentration of income and wealth ( Oligopoly,
2000). They charge much higher prices and end up producing less of an output than the
efficiency benchmark of perfect competition. One of the good forms is natural monopoly.
Natural monopoly exists when economies of scale encourage production by a single producer
(Mayer). An example of this is your local electrical utility. As a power plant increases, the cost
per kilowatt hour of electricity falls (Mayer). If we were to all use small generators to run our
homes the cost of each household would be ridiculous. The total fixed cost of generators for the
community would be high and the variable cost of running it would also be high. Another form of
monopoly that is good is

An Essay on Modernism
Modernism describes the ideology of the art and design that were produced during the modernist
period. There has been a lot of controversy about when modernism started, yet many believe it
initiated sometime in the late 19th century and continued to the early 20th century. The modernist
movement was meant to be a break from traditions and it was set up to separate the value of certain
works from the conservative realism. For instance, Unlike the traditional art that was aesthetic, this
movement was more about space and form. In modernist design, shape and organization of products
and buildings were based on their functional requirements. As a result, designs became simpler
without the traditional decorative concepts. The idea behind the... Show more content on

Moreover, I explained how each image is an example for the core principles of modernism as
mentioned in the overview. In brief, modernist design is innovative. Space, form and structure is
based on the functional requirements. Designs became simple and without overwhelming
traditional aesthetic concepts. Therefore, technology together with simpler design made the
product easy to be mass produced. After the first World War, designers in central Europe intended to
change the world for better through art by rejecting ornamentation as it resembled of the past
generations whom withstood the unpleasant effects of war and poverty (Smith, 2005). Dormer
(1993) writes that:
When intelligent designers of the late 19th or early 20th century looked at the anonymous artifacts
of 18th and 19th century industrialization, they saw great beauty in the simple, engineered
structures, and set

Analytical Essay On Elie Wiesel s Book Thief
When we had to choose book for our literature circle discussion, we had an option to pick one

girl and her foster family during the World War II.
When Liesel arrived to her new family, she was frequently called saumensch filthy pig. Her mom

they did not have a chance to hide in basement. Did they deserve any better, these people? How
many had actively persecuted others, high on the scent of Hitler s gaze, repeating his sentences,

they all deserve to die? The children? (Shmoop)
People who survived in other neighbourhoods went to the one where Liesel lived and they found
her in destroyed building. Everybody was surprised that she survived.

the whole book was really interesting. There are short texts throughout the book they help a lot in

Causes Of Food Insecurity In South Sudan
About South Sudan
South Sudan, officially called the Republic of South Sudan, is a county located in the north eastern
Africa.
About food crisis
Food is a human s right and it is necessary for human, and actually every living thing on this planet,
to survive. So for us human, food must be available, affordable and prepared.
South Sudan faces unprecedented levels of food insecurity, as nearly 4.9 million people about 40
percent of the country s population remain in urgent need of food assistance. According to the
United Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs, the total number of people
affected by severe food insecurity in South Sudan between January and March 2016 got up to 2.8
million.
The Causes of the food crisis
Food shortages, a deepening economic crisis, insecurity and insufficient agricultural production at
household level have caused increased levels of food insecurity and alarming levels of acute
malnutrition.
There are two kinds of causes one is natural disaster the other cause is man made.
The natural disaster in the South Sudan is about the rainfall that is lacking and uneven. The
average annual rainfall in South Sudan is 254 millilitre per year. But the uneven rain falling on
the country made some areas of the country so arid that no one can grow any food there. For
example, the rainfall occurred mainly from mid June to September. So farmers will not be able to
grow much in other times of the year.
The man mad reason that caused the

Therapy Pets
The health professional can always contribute to the welfare of the patients by encouraging them
to maintain bonds with their pets. The therapy pets are well trained often for specific purposes.
Therapy pets provide support to decreased tension, anxiety, loneliness, companionship and even
improved overall mood. In the article Pets and Health: The Impact of Companion Animals
Casciotti makes a point that Children s exposure to companion animals may also ease anxiety. For

patient benefit from the therapy dogs. The therapy dogs take less stress. It makes the patient take
exercise to reduce the blood pressure and stress. Also having a pet is really a huge effect on the
health, both physical and mentally. It helps with depression by lowering the stress level. And also
the natural environment can help too from workplaces. And also you can reduce stress in your
life by nurturing yourself. If regularly make time for fun and relaxation, you will be a better place
to handle life s stressors. For example, my aunt have a therapy dog and she been complaining lately
that she stress up and her blood pressure high. So one day, she went to see her doctor and he told

The First Biblical Theme Of Creation In The Book Of Genesis
In the first Biblical theme, creation, the Bible has revealed that God is the creator of all things.
He is the Supreme being that created the entire universe and the heavens, and life as we know.
The Bible declares that all things were created through Him and for Him, whether it be visible or
invisible. In the book of Genesis the creation story, is a proper beginning for Gods story of His plan
for all of humanity. In this book many of the questions that are asked come from here, such as the
place we come from, which in Genesis 1:1 it states, In the beginning, God created heaven and the
earth. For God made us all something from nothing. All the materials on the universewere formed
by God and were created by His simple command. The first

Mine Okubo Summary
In 1942 President Franklin D Roosevelt issued an order to create Internment Camps for people of
Japanese descent living in the USA. Sixty two percent of these people were US Citizens and
some of them had only 1/16th Japanese Ancestry. One hundred and thirty thousand people were
relocated to these camps without any proof of wrongdoing or just trial. Mine Okubo was one of
these people and despite the inhumane conditions and unjustness of her imprisonment, she made
sketches and wrote about her experience in the camps. Later she released a graphic novel titled
Citizen 13660. The way that Japanese Americans Behaved and Experienced the Interment Camp
programs reveals elements of their culture and community. Interestingly, the style of writing in this
book is filled with some blunt comedy, along with detailed black and white sketches. The timeline
of the book starts from when she was living in Europe, then migrates the USA and thereafter is
inducted into the camps. The whole reason that the Internment Camps were created was because
of irrational fears of the US public and government towards Japanese people. Some of the earlier
lines in here book show the attitude of Caucasians toward her and her people. She talks about the
events before she went to the camps with people and the media using slurs and the initial voluntary

camps she mentions a group of Japanese university students singing on the bus, showing a sense of

Misconstrued Time in Ferdi RiskiyantoВґs Advertisment
Time has overtaken the minds of society today in a multitude of ways. Daily tasks such as visiting
family members, attending meetings, and paying bills all incorporate the substantial importance in
tracking every second of a person s life. In addition to scheduling, time is often denoted as a
system of counting down until an indefinite end occurs. In an advertisement by Ferdi Rizkiyanto, a
digital artist, an hourglass is used to represent time before the fate of humans concludes due to
global warming. Within the hourglass, sand has been replaced by the water of melting icebergs,
and the droplets trickle into the lower level containing the homes of modern day society. The
global warming hourglass ad attempts to emphasize the importance of immediately solving earth
s impending environmental problems by appealing to the emotions of fear and pity, but the
awaiting disaster used in the visual is ineffective because it will not occur during the audience s
lifetime. In this advertisement by Ferdi, the world is placed within the lower chamber of an
hourglass. All of society continues to follow their daily routines, and nothing seems out of the
ordinary. However, far above their heads, the polar ices caps are slowly melting. Many artic
animals lose their homes and become stranded due to this issue. As the ice melts, it slowly filters
into the earth bearing chamber, eventually causing the entire population to be flooded in a problem
that could have been slowed, if not stopped

Scarface The Movie Psychology
In this essay I decided to watch the movie Scarface (1932). This movie is directed by Howard
Hawks and Richard Rosson. Its lead actors are Osgood Perkins, Paul Muni, Ann Dvorak, and
Karen Morley. Scarface is a film about guns, gangsters, and pretty woman, it follows a story of a
fast rising gangster who lives by the moto the world is yours, but once he finds himself at the top
he is quick to find his world is tumbling down around him.
Looking at scenes of sexual innuendo the film handled it with showing minor skin or even kissing.
One scene of a sexual innuendo is the dialogue with Tony (Paul Muni) and Poppy (Karen
Morley). In this scene you hear Tony say I m not hungry. Except for you. You got something I
like hinting to Poppy that he is interested in her more than he is food. Even with the films
restrictions on not showing a lot of skin or even a sex scene the directors were able to still put
their points across to what the characters implied, and that there was a sense of romance between
the two without having to show any explicated scenes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

you really ever see is on the sleeve of Johnny Lovo (Osgood Perkins) when he is clipped by a

ABSTRACT
This paper is an attempt to understand the concept of Goods and Service Tax (GST), to be
implemented in India from 1st July 2017. This changing face of Indian taxation system paves the
path of development and advancement towards which developing country like India is trying to
move on.It is the biggest and substantial indirect tax reform since 1947. The main is to replace
existing taxes like value added tax, excise duty, service tax and sales tax. It will be levied on

In India also dual system of GST is proposed including CGST and SGST. It is a domestic trade tax
that will be levied in the form of a value added tax on all goods and services in practice with some
exemptions. A value added tax exempts all inputs including capital goods. Hence, it becomes a
general tax on domestic consumption. It is a convenient and economically efficient way of taxing
consumption. It is a comprehensive tax regime levied on manufacture, sales and consumption of
goods and services. It is expected to bring about 2% incremental GDP growth of the country.
The Value Added Tax (VAT) when introduced was considered to be a major improvement over the
pre existing Central excise duty at the national level and the sales tax system at the State level.
Now the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will be a further significant breakthrough the next logical
step towards a comprehensive indirect tax reform in the country. Despite the success with VAT,
there are still certain shortcomings in the structure of
VAT both at the Central and at the State level. The shortcoming in CENVAT of theGovernment of
India lies in non inclusion of several Central taxes in the overallframework of CENVAT, such as
additional customs duty, surcharges, etc., and thuskeeping the benefits of comprehensive input tax
and service tax set off out of reach formanufacturers/dealers. Moreover, no step has yet been taken
to capture the valueaddedchain in the

Advising Directors Of Flyaway Pty Ltd
I have been asked to advise directors of Flyaway Pty Ltd on the following issues:
Whether Peter and Paul breached their duty of care and diligence as directors when they were not
present for the decision to borrow $10 million from Citibank.
Whether John breached his fiduciary duty as a director when he invested in Speed Bullet Pty Ltd.
Whether board of directors is obliged to follow the resolution passed by the shareholders at the
general meeting.
Whether Peter and Paul breached their duty of care and diligence as directors when they were not
present for the decision to borrow $10 million from Citibank.
A director has a duty of care and diligence in to the company. The Corporations Act of Australia
(2001) states that:
A corporation s director or officer shall use their powers and carry out their functions with the
degree of care and diligence that a reasonable person would exercise if they:
(a) were a director or officer of a company in the company s circumstances; and
(b) occupied the office held by, and had the same obligations within of the company as, the
executive or officer . A director is obligated to place himself or herself to manage the company .
The director must understand the business of the company and the effect that the decisions of the
board has on the company. Where the decisions of the company rely on expert or professional

Lord of the Flies Comparative Essay (Film vs Book)
Lord of the Flies comparative essay
The novel, Lord of the Flies by William Golding was published in 1954. It s the story of a group
of boys stranded on an island with no adults. Since then, it has had two film adaptions. The first
adaption was produced in 1963, directed by the Englishman Peter Brook. This version was
filmed in black and white and follows the events of the book very closely. The second adaption
came twenty seven years later in 1990, which was directed by the American Harry Hook. The
second adaption did not quite follow the novel in terms of symbolism, the beast and the overall
theme while the first adaption was more faithful to the novel.

This film was made by an English director, and its cast was entirely English. By having an English
cast, it truly represents the novel in the sense of nationality. All the characters in the novel were
well represented accurately in the film. Compared to American films, English films are more subtle
in their film making. They will not show you the whole picture, but they will hint towards it. In the
film, it is only hinted that Wilfred was hurt by Jack s tribe, but never shown or confirmed.
Peter Brook is the director of the 1963 version of Lord of the Flies. He used many different
cinematic features in his film. The montage at the beginning of the film was expertly used to
show the contrast between the innocence of the schoolboys, to the evil of war and destruction
with the images of rockets and explosions. The montage explains how the plane crashed, with
images of a plane entering huge, dark clouds. This was followed by images of lighting and the
sounds of thunder. During the montage, there is a choir singing a Greek song which is called
Lord have Mercy. This is an ominous hint that that something will go horribly wrong on the
island. To show the thoughts of his characters, Peter Brook used actions to convey thoughts.
When Ralph is talking at an assembly, the sound of wood being hacked at is heard. It is revealed
that Jack is hacking at his spear with a knife. This conveys the thoughts of Jack, it shows the
violence and savagery that he will be apart

Designing A Seven Band Stacked Patch Antenna Design For C,...
Abstract: In this paper a seven band stacked patch antenna design for C, X and Ku band is
considered. To generate multiband frequencies micro strip stacked patch antenna is introduced. The
proposed structure is a planar structure having all the dimensions in mm and is designed by using a
substrate of FR4 having thickness 1.6 mm. This proposed antennais having seven bands of
operation. The considered antenna consists of H slot loaded fed patch, stacked with dual U slot
loaded rectangular patch. The size of the antenna is 39.25 x 29.25 x 1.66 mm2. The patch antennais
studied and simulated using IE3D simulator. The antenna is analyzed by circuit theory concepts to
practically verify the results. The results pertaining to various functional parameters of the
multiband micro strip patch antenna such as RL, Gain and Radiation patternversus frequency are
obtained.

Every communication system is primarily focused on the usage of antenna as it plays a vital role in
transmitting and receiving the information signals. An antenna is made itself a mandate component
of communication system. The stupendous growth of wireless communication systems along with
wonderful use of radars opens a huge demand to new kind of antennas like small antennas, multi

Amanda Knox Metamorphosis
The Metamorphosis is a novella written by Franz Kafka and was published in October of 1915.
It is about a traveling salesman named Gregor whose life changed drastically after turning into a
cockroach. There are many other difficult situations people go through that are similar to Gregor
s, but that can happen in real life. For example, Gregor faces isolation while being a cockroach,
and someone who is blind or has autism may also feel isolated. Amanda Knox and Gregor s
situations compare and contrast in several ways. Amanda Knox was wrongfully convicted for
murdering her roommate and faced time in prison because of it. Although Gregor and Amanda both
didn t turn into an insect, they were both living normal lives until one day something happened that
completely changed the way they lived.
Amanda Knox and Gregor encounter some of the same experiences when dealing with their
situations. First, they both didn t have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author, Franz Kafka struggled with being accepted and he didn t have a good relationship with
his parents. On the other hand, Amanda does have a good relationship with her parents but some
people still think she is responsible for the death of her roommate, so they are not accepting of her.
Comparing fiction and nonfiction enhances a story because it shows that the content in fiction and
nonfiction can be the same but the characters can still be different. An advantage of this would be
that an event can become more interesting by including fictional characters. For example, a story
can be about a family getting into a really bad car accident and the father dies but the characters in
the fiction story can be rabbits and the characters in nonfiction would be humans. I think nonfiction
is more interesting because I know that the piece of literature written is based on true events, so it s
cool to know that it actually

Tasmanian Devils are small marsupials that possess rat like features such as sharp teeth, black or
brown fur and are roughly 20 to 31 inches tall. These creatures possess poor temperament,
growling, baring teeth and lunging when provoked or under threat. Because of their aggressive
behavior, they are solitary creatures, only interacting with one another during the mating seasons of
March. They give birth to up to 20 young during this time, however the female as only four teats,
meaning only four of the imps can survive. The general lifespan of a Tasmanian devilis 5 6 years,

Many scientists have expressed their own opinions, but none have been found to be officially
accurate on the matter. Many researchers including A M Pearse, K.Swift, after much research, came
to the conclusion that DFTD spread through Allograft, the means of cancerous cells spread from
one animal to another through physical interactions such as biting, fighting or mating. This process
of spreading is much like that of a transplant, and once the cancer cell has entered the devil s body,
it develops the mechanism to go through and resist the attacks of the immune system. For this
particular reason, a proper vaccine as not been discovered yet and the Tasmania devils have no
actual cure to save them from this widespread disease. The Allograft theory has not been
confirmed to be the case yet as it does not apply to the rules of normal cancerous cells and
diseases sparked from those cells. However, once more information regarding this cancerous
disease has been established, scientists can work towards finding some form of medical
treatment for the devils. Having said that, more scientific mechanisms to save the devils has
been proposed, including one of which may be what saves the Tasmanian Devils. In recent
years, an authorized project known as the Maria Island Devil Translocation has taken place, and
already has produced results and statistics that look promising for the Tasmanian Devil s species.
The Maria Island project, which started in 2012, is a rehabilitation program that selects both
wild and captive devils and places them on Maria Island, a small island located off to the east of
Tasmania. Maria Island is a land free of DFTD due to Tasmanian devils not being a

The Flaws In The Movie Kingdom Of Heaven
The movie Kingdom of Heaven is a very good movie. It is biased off of the crusades more
specifically the second crusade. However, no matter how good any movie is there is always
flaws, this one is no different. The amount of flaws I am able to choose from is tremendous. I
have categorized them into three main topics. First I will be talking about the false things that
have to do with Balian himself. Next will be the weapons them self s and how they fire/are used
and outcomes of them. Last I will state many of the other false tings in the movie and back up
why they are false. In the movie there are many incorrect elements about Balian and surrounding
Balian. One of the larger issues I can see is that he is not from France. As Helena P. Schrader
says Balian was born in the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. The movie started out with a scene
of Balian burying his dead wife. Several men ride by on horses and one says She was a suicide cut
her head off... but she really never committed suicide. However,... Show more content on

attacking would not just bombard the castle walls. There were people that would dig under the
castle s walls to weaken them then they would fire at that area to bring them down. I found more
information on this mining strategy on medieval castles.net. The large battle scenes were almost

Participants are judged on a range of areas depending on what category their presentation is in.
The categories range from a number of FCS related areas and values. Members are graded on
one to five points in every area on the judge s rubric sheet and recieve feedback for state. The
judge sheet totally depends on the category. The judge sheet is literally aligned with the criteria
of the event. Sometimes the event will have a portfolio component of it, so the judges will
actually grade and rate their portfolio, so that s kind of like the background research and
planning and the reflection piece. Then they have specific criteria to go off of of the actual
event they did, FCCLA sponsor Mallory Gregory said. FCCLA members were given the option
to design a STAR project at the start of the school year and were able to work in a group or
alone. They started project creation in November and were offered work nights where they
received feedback from peers and sponsors and received help. Freshman Trent Brown competed

Similarities Between Germany And Tanzania
In this paper, the trade structure between Germany and Tanzania, and its impacts to the
development of Tanzania has been analysed. The study identifies that Tanzania s major export
commodities to Germany include primary goods and few intermediate and manufactured goods,
while it imports significant volumes of finished manufactured goodsfrom Germany. By this
structure of trade, Tanzaniais perhaps locked to concentrate on production of natural and primary
goods; this has a better outcome in the short term, but leads to several problems in the long term
which can future hinder its speed of development. In this case, Tanzania needs to establish strategies
that can assist in improving production of manufactured goods so as to boost its benefits... Show

The use of a qualitative method and a telephone interview analysis were important tools in obtaining
the data needed to answer the research question. Some opportunities identified include increased
employment; export expansion, cultural interchange etc. Risks mentioned included corruption,
bureaucracy and variation in commodity price among others. Tanzania needs to make effective use
of the opportunities since it has a high economic growth potential that could see its position
advancing from a less developed country to an intermediate or even a highly developed country.
Corruption, among other risks, is presented to be a major problem in Tanzania. The author agrees
that combating corruption is not an easy action which can be done by the government alone, rather
through support from all citizens. Nevertheless, the current government has already started taking
measures to combat corruption in the country. This was evident when the Tanzanian president
started by removing top director generals and other government officials that were either
embezzling national funds or practicing corrupting procedures. It s the researcher s hope that if this
development continues, the new phase of Tanzania is likely to come which will result in increasing
trade performance and strengthened trade ties between Germany and

Children Need a Healthy Breakfast
How Not Having a Healthy Meal in the Morning affects Children America is often referred to as
the most developed country worldwide where everything is easily accessible to residents.
Recent research has shown that 50 million Americans lack access to safe and nutritious food in
the home, 17 million of which are children. A perfect example of this can be seen in the recent
film, A Place at the Table where. Rosie, an 8 year old girl living in Colorado expressed the
difficulty that she finds in concentrating in school due to stomach discomfort. According to Rosie
she spends most of her time in class fighting her cravings while uncontrollably thinking of apples,
oranges and bananas. Rosie is just one of the 17 million children who does not have desert at
nights. Most times when you picture a starving child, America is the last place to come to mind.
Being one of the most economically advanced countries in the world, America is said to be the land
of dreams and opportunities and the home of proud citizens. However, in the recent film A Place at
the Table , this idea was tarnished. The film sought to expose the presence of hunger in the United
States through the documentation of the life of Americans who are unable to afford food. Jeff
Bridges took on the role of a devoted advocate in the battle against starvation in America. The US
Department of Agriculture s statistical findings revealed that out of the 50 million American
residents that do not consume healthy nutritious

Ethanol Essay
Ethanol
Ethanol, an alcohol, is the product of the fermentation of a biomass resources or sugar rich crops
such as corn. Ethanol is an alternative fuel used over a century till to this very day however it has
not been a profound source of fuel. It has not been until the last few decades that ethanol has gone
through resurgence from going from a secondary to primary option in fuel consumption. Here in
Queensland the revival is boosted due to the availability of an already grown biomass; sugar canes,
a product already growing in large quantities throughout Queensland that can be utilised for the
mass production of ethanol fuel. Utilizing sugarcanes for the production of ethanol in Queensland

Ethanol in Engines
Ethanol at the moment is present as a blended fuel with petrol. As it is blended with petrol, this
increases efficiency for the ethanol but decreases the petrol s very own efficiency. Although
ethanol is a better fuel to run through an engine avoid or alleviate knocking and pre ignition.
Although the efficiency of petrol may be brought down, by having the ethanol, this increases the
overall octane number of petrol thus allowing for a greater compression. So what is the
importance of the compression ratio in a car? Recently, cars such the Mazda 3 with the SkyActiv
engine can get as far as 17.9 kilometres on one litre of fuel due to the engines high compression
ratio. The compression ratio is the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the
bottom, and the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the top (Deaton, 2011).
Ethanol has a compression ratio of 14.5 16.1:1 whereas petrol has a ratio of 10:1 or lower as a
higher compression could potentially lead to knocking in petrol engines. By having the ethanol
blend with petrol, this then allows for increased fuel efficiency for ethanol but decreased efficiency
for petrol.
The energy that comes from the combustion from either ethanol or petrol comes from burning these
hydrocarbons in order for the oxygen from the air to combine and combust (See Ethanol and the
Environment for more). Energy is produced when the hydrocarbon bonds between the carbon and
the hydrogen and

The Mysterious 36 Chambers Of The Shaolin Temple
The One to Thirty Six (1/36) or the thirty six English C lessons in Boxing, are the FOA s, thirty
six different uses of the hand which are the styles broken down individually thirty six ways. It
was supposed, by the FOA Gods, that the mysterious 36 chambers of the Shaolin Temple Boxing
had these hand styles in order? Therefore, it conveyed perfect to the idea fitting for the lesson,
the One to Thirty Six. It also was acknowledged that before entering the 36 chambers, one had to
pass the test of the Ten basic skills which in the FOA, is the Ten Styles Step. (See Kung Fu

all the techniques at the Shaolin temple (from the Katas techniques; Sanseru 36, Gojushiho 54,
and Seipai 18) and placed the moves into 108 forms (Supreme impei), techniques or vital strikes
(synonymous of the 120 ). In Tuite Advanced Pressure Point Grappling by George A. Dillman with
Chris Thomas; (The Dillman Method of Instant Self Defense) in Chapter three, page 39 it states,
There are 361 pressure points used in traditional acupuncture and shiatsu (plus roughly 350 more
extraordinary points identified by modern acupuncturists). These are the points used in kyusho jitsu
and tuite jitsu. However, though all 361 plus points could be used for combat, only the most
practical are. This amounts to roughly 120 of the total number of points (some sources say 108, of
which 36 are lethal).

Indian Independence Movement
Systems of governance and authority can have a profound influence on the development of human
societies. All types of governments from local politics to federal bureaucracies to huge empires
maintain their authority through specific techniques, including fostering a shared identity
(nationalism), developing economic interdependence, and sometimes using overt force. Challenges
to that authority through violent and nonviolent revolution can have significant consequences,
including the collapse and replacement of whole systems of governance. You have studied multiple
forms of governance (including ancient and contemporary empires) and resistance to authority (in
both violent and nonviolent revolutions) that occurred in societies within the Americas, India,
Southeast Asia, and Africa. In this task, you will examine systems of governance and the
reactions of the governed peoples in specific areas of the world. Task: A. Discuss the rise of
imperialism or colonialism in one area of the world from India. India came under British
colonialism or imperialism via subterfuge from the British and through their desire for expansion
and money. It all started with the European trading advantages that Europe enjoyed in India and
with unrest of the country with Hindu majority and Muslims. Between 1450 1750, Dutch traders
stepped into the Indies whilst British traders took advantage of the weak Mughal Empire and
during the Seven Years War emerged victorious over France and became the dominant

Improvements During the Meiji Restoration
The abolishment of feudalism made immense social and political changes in Japan. Japanese
citizens were able to choose their occupation and were allowed to move without restriction. By
implementing a new environment of political and financial security, the government made
investments in advanced industries and technologies. The Japanese government built railway and
shipping lines, telegraph and telephone systems, and industries making sugar, glass, textiles,
cements, chemicals, and other products.
The government system was not the only matter that change during the era, but so did the
educational system. During the Meiji Restoration, Meiji placed a huge emphasis on education

Japanese clothing, but compared to the Tokugawa it was very different. Only nobles and
military members were allowed to wear elaborated brocades and to adorn themselves with a
fancy sashes. However because of the new laws from the Restoration government, the citizens
are allowed to dress freely. Then in 1871, the Emperor issued a mandate requiring high officials
to wear Western clothes during business hours or when at official functions. (Ginza, Japan in the
Meiji Restoration 1). Also, the Western Powers also influenced the Japanese s hairstyles.
Japanese men began to follow the hair trend that their Emperor who cut his topknot in 1872 and
having a beard and a moustache became a norm as well. Japanese women rapidly followed the
style of the Victorian period. They would either wore a Western dress or a Japanese kimono. Both
men and women began to wear hats due to their Western hairstyle. Japan in the Meiji Restoration

Prostitution and Its Unfortunate Aftermath Essay
Prostitution and Its Unfortunate Aftermath
Life..the greatest adventure. This statement, so powerful yet for many teens who enter the dark
world of prostitution, it happens to be the furthest thing from the truth.
This life of despair can lead to a lifetime of pain and suffering (Farley
www.prostitutionresearch.com). Many teenagers resort to prostitution out of desperation.
The unfortunate popularity of teen prostitution has led to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, physical
and emotional scars and health problems in the lives of these teens. The dark side to the world of
prostitution holds a no win situation for most teens. Years filled with the scars left by suicide
attempts, physical and mental abuse and the longing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many having five or more in one night. This in itself can be traumatizing and dehumanizing to
anyone(Farley www.prostitutionresearch.com). Along with having many sexual partners, studies
show that 80% of prostitutes have been raped. Also, studies show an even more dejecting fact, the
average prostitute gets raped eight to ten times a year(Farley www.prostitutionresearch.com).
Moreover, emotional abuse also results in PTSD. This type of abuse can, sometimes, traumatize and
be even more psychologically scarring than sexual and physical abuse. In the world of prostitution,
the pimps frequently emotionally abuse the prostitutes. The multiple threats on their lives and the
constant humiliation that they suffer leads 75% of prostitutes in the escort service to attempt
suicide, 15% of which complete it(Farley www.prostitutionresearch.com). The pimps place fear in
the prostitute to intimidate them as a form of control. They may also threaten the lives or threaten
to injure the lives of the prostitutes loved ones(Giobbe www.prostitutionresearch.com). As many
people already know, becoming a prostitute causes them to lower or compromise their moral
standards. Along those same lines, when prostitutes get emotionally abused, they become stripped
of all physical and emotional dignity and integrity that they once had(Giobbe
www.prostitutionresearch.com). In

Orca whales have been in difficult circumstances ever since the first orca was captured in 1961.
The first orca captured lived two days in captivity then died and the reported cause of dead was
pneumonia. Many things come to mind when people think an orca is in captivity. Many people
tend to believe they are being treated, they will enjoy life more, and they will live longer due to
the fact they are receiving food and care. These statements are told to spectators at seaworld,
marinelandand many other water parks around the globe. The facts disagree with these statements.
Orca are very friendly animals, there have been no recorded attacks of orcas hurting any human

Most trainers received their job just walking in and applying. (Pg1) Another sad reason that orca
s may show aggression is most parks separate there baby s from the mother that way they can
ship them to other locations for visitors. Kalina was the first shamu born in captivity. Since most
whales live together in pods for all their life trainers thought Kalina and her mother Katina would
live together. Although at just age four management of Sea World decided that Kalina was too
much of a distraction when her mother was performing in shows. They relocated baby Kalina to
another park separating the baby from her mother. That same night her mother made a very high
pitched long distance call trying to find her daughter. Most scientists that work with whales say
they have never heard anything like it. Katina clearly was sad because her baby was taken from
her. SeaWorld chose to ignore this though because it was not profitable if the baby where to stay
with her mother. Orcas lives are decreased significantly in captivity. Today over one hundred fifty
eight orcas have lived in captivity. Two thirds of the orcas did not live past ten years (Pg1). The
average life span for an orca s have only increased a small bit since the nineteen sixties but still the
average life span is still very low. The current average life span for an orca is nine years. The
average lifespan in the wild for female

  • 2. Hunters In The Snow By Tobias Wolff Tobias Wolff is a writer known for his memoirs and realistic short stories. Hunters in the Snow is a story about three friends, Tub, Frank, and Kenny, who go hunting in the snow. Wolff writes about humanity through the friendship of the three friends and the events they go through. In the beginning of the story is Tub, he is standing on the sidewalk. A truck comes around the corner, in the truck is Kenny, the driver, and Frank. The trio heads towards the woods where Kenny wanted to hunt. Crossing through the fences, Tub has trouble going through but Frank and Kenny offer him no help at all. On the way back, they notice obvious deertrails that lead into a no huntingzone. After getting permission from the owner, they followed the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is hinted at when Tub scarfs down two sandwiches and cookies when they were hunting. Through the story, Tub gained confidence to confront his friends and the courage to reveal his secret (86 99). The mysterious and calm man of the trio is Frank, a protagonist. He is first introduced sitting in the truck while picking up Tub. Frank is laid back, yet joins with Kenny to insult Tub. Though later, Frank apologizes to Tub. When Tub tells him his secret, Frank is supportive and buys him four plates of pancakes. Frank believes in letting nature run its course and not fight against it. After losing the deer, Frank calms Kenny saying Relax [...] You can t hurry nature. If we re meant to get that deer, we ll get it. If we re not, we won t (89). Contradictory to his personality is his wedding ring, a gold ring with an F in diamonds. When they begin hunting, Kenny hints about a certain babysitter, which aggravates Frank. When he and Tub stop to warm themselves, Frank exposes his secret that he is having an affair with his fifteen year old babysitter. He says with amazement that she has opened up new worlds to him, the cause of his hippie personality. Frank commits the crime of lust; however, he takes into consideration of his wife and children if he divorces. Frank is torn between his secret lover and family, but gains a trustworthy friend on his side to help him through it (86 97). The leader of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Compare And Contrast North American Colonialism GKE Task 3Linda Mckee A. Colonialism is a significant part of history especially in North America. North America was originally colonized by Europeans in the 10th century by Norse sailors who colonized what are now parts of Greenland and Canada, followed later by many European nations including; Great Britain, France, and Spain. The most notorious and first of these Europeans was Christopher Columbus who began colonizing America in 1492 on behalf of Spain. The reason for Christopher Columbus even finding North America was an accident due to he was sailing west in hopes of an alternate route to India but instead landed in the Caribbean. However though he was unsuccessful, this event opened up the door for other nations in hopes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main similarity is that both revolutions involved getting away from British rule and both used violence at some point. Although in the Indian revolution violence was not successful. Also in both revolutions the British tried to use force to halt the revolutions early on by sending soldiers to collect taxes in the United States and sending soldiers to end the Indian rebellion of 1857. However the tactics used by the revolutionaries differed dramatically. In the Indian revolution the revolutionaries refused to work and started to only buy Indian goods which had huge effects on the British economy that were relying on these transactions where as in the American revolution the tactic was to simply use force to drive the British out. • 4. The Daily Show On The Congressional Record The Daily Show is on the congressional record. It occurred during a debate on the Blunt Amendment, which would allow employers to decline to provide birth control as part of their health care plans. On February 28th, 2012 California Senator Barbara boxer attempted to quote The Daily Show bid on the floor of the senate. Senator Boxer said: Jon Stewart took this issue on and said: Well, I ll tell you something, I love Blunt Amendment because he says I am an employer and I believe that humor is the best medicine. On March 1st, 2012, Stewart dedicated the entire episode of his show to talk about the Blunt Amendment and the controversy around it. He, as usual, mocked, poked fun at politicians and approached the absurdity of passing the bill. The Blunt Amendment was sponsored by Senator Blunt that would override Obama s Administration s new contraception plan, and allow any employer to refuse to cover any kind of health case service by citing moral reasons. The amendment was defeated in the Senate by a vote of 51 to 48. . Staci Beavers argued that Jon Stewart brought up the Blunt Amendment debate, while no other news or media outlet did. Example 3: The Zadroga Bill Jon Stewart attracts considerable news media in many politicized issues. He played an important role in pressuring lawmakers to pass legislation, providing health care to 9/11 responders, in which Stewart was credited for the Zadroga bill s passage by the White house and other media and political news ... • 5. Drosophila Lab Report Introduction: The Drosophila project was fundamentally conducted to determine potential regulators of the wingless pathway in Drosophila Melanogaster. All the experiments in this project were used to establish two things. Firstly, the location of the transposon insertion and secondly, the effect the genes near the transposon insertion had on the wingless pathway. These two things were used to ascertain the potential regulators of the wingless pathway. We were assigned unknown #2812 for this experiment. Drosophila Melanogasterwas used as a model organism in this experiment. Drosophila are extensively used biological experiments, especially experiments that involve genetics. These flies have characteristics like high reproductive rate, short life cycle and only 4 chromosomes which makes them a good model system. There were four primary experiments that were preformed in this project: balancer crosses, GMR crosses, meiotic mapping and PCR and Sequencing. Balancer crosses were performed to identify the chromosome which contained insertion. Meiotic mapping provided the a more precise position of the insert on the chromosome. Thirdly, the GMR crosses were used to to see if the insert had an effect on the wingless pathway additionally, if the transposon had an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Language Intimacy in Hunger of Memory by Richard Rodriguez... In Hunger of Memory, author Richard Rodriguez describes his experiences as a Mexican immigrant. He tells anecdotes about his childhood in order to analyze the pressures which culture change imposed on him. Rodriguez also experienced guilt because he felt he had abandoned his Mexican roots by learning English, ceasing to speak Spanish. He then comes to the realization that intimacy is found in the feelingbetween two people conversing, not in the language in which they are conversing. Richard in the process of self visualization becomes annoyed with himself and certain things that he sees around him. Rodriguez is ashamed. Rodriguez took on tremendous amount of responsibility for these changes. He took more responsibility than he probably should have; due to circumstances beyond his control he reached the stage he was in. Rodriguez portrayed this feeling when he mentioned, I felt that I had shattered the intimate bond that had once held the family close. This original sin against my family told whenever anyone addressed me in Spanish and I responded confounded. (231) His family members and his Americanization had taken that bond away. He felt that losing his ability to speak Spanish removed his ability to communicate with his family on an intimate level. Spanish used to be a secret bond between them and what tied them together. Rodriguez shows how even language barriers can be overcome with intimacy. He showed that even old bonds could be made new. He introduces us to the relationship he had with his grandmother. This relationship with his grandmother displayed a bond that could not be broken, he explains this when he mentions, The communication of intimacy passes through the word to enliven its sound. But it cannot be held by the word but on person. (234) He demonstrates that the intimacy was much more that just the word that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Human Condition Essay The Human Condition Does life ever seem pointless and discouraging? In Albert Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus describes the correlation between Sisyphus s fate and the human condition. In the selection, everyday is the same for Sisyphus. Sisyphus is condemned to rolling a rock up a mountain for eternity. Camus s The Myth of Sisyphus forces one to contemplate Sisyphus s fate, how it relates to the human condition, and how it makes the writer feel about her part in life. Camus states if this myth is tragic, that is because its hero is conscious (Camus). Condemned by the gods, Sisyphus does not acknowledge his fate until after the rock rolls back down the mountain and he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, he starts to find meaning in his fate, starts to enjoy what he does, almost to take pride in his work, like a true laborer. Thus, Sisyphus is the absurd hero, because, like people he has a goal he believes that he can ultimately accomplish (Camus). He, in his own small way spites the gods by taking delight in pushing this rock over and over again. How might one feel about this essay and her position in life? The writer feels as though life in essence is futile and hopeless (Camus). For example, day after day the writer continually gets up and goes to school. Many will feel disheartened by another day of doing things he or she may not want to do. Nevertheless, one would rather go to school and endure the torture of being in school than sitting at home for hours on end doing absolutely nothing or at a job she may not enjoy. Hence, why students welcome the summer, but after a few weeks they yearn to be in school again or why the depressed are depressed. The writer is no different. One is happiest when there are responsibilities to fill one s day rather than a day without promise. Life can seem futile and hopeless. However, it only seems that way to people who don t take pleasure in what they do. Sisyphus realizes that if he just sat around all day instead of pushing that rock, he would never ... Hamm Squire and Hamm begin their writings with introducing the reader to the historical lineage of American legislatures and their evolution from colonial days to the modern government. The colonial institutions have greatly influenced the design of the new Congress under the Constitution (Squire and Hamm 34). The bicameral system had its originations in colonial governments and the original colonial constitutions had a large impact on the future constitutions. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Squire and Hamm discussed how the modern day legislatures in the United States come from common ancestors and the evolution from the unicameral system to the bicameral. The authors also show how the idea of institutional diffusion occurred with one state beginning to form a constitution and structure, then others following suit soon after in most cases. Member service longevity is not a trend that can be easily compared among states due to conflicting constitutional laws and the ability to move into higher elective offices. When comparing state governments to Congress, the states have a higher turnover rate because there are two sources of turnover that the Congress does not have to deal with. One is that certain state chambers are described as springboard states, where the representatives have a better chance of gaining a higher elected office than other states do. When the legislator has a chance to rise in the government there tends to be a higher turnover rate. These legislators also tend to be more responsive to constituents on policy preferences than are legislators in other sorts of chambers (Maestas 2000). Term limits also play a large role in the turnover rates in state governments compared to that of Congress rates. States that have term limits seem to have higher rates due to the fact that legislators in term limited legislatures are less obliged to focus on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brown was in third grade at the time, and sought to enroll at Sumner School in Topeka, Kansas(wiki). The day it all started her Father (Leon BrOwn) took her by the hand and walked 4 blocks down to Sumner Elementary School. Sumner was the closest elementary school to their home, but Linda Brown was not allowed to attend because of the color of her skin. She remembered her father s hands were strong, those of a boxer. Essay On A Man For All Seasons And Hamlet Compare A Man for All Seasons and Hamlet Essay The literary texts A Man for All Seasons and Hamlet both have the same underlying theme of one s ability to make decisions in a world of corruption. Robert Bolt criticizes society by commenting on the corruption in the political and religious systems, which are supposed to be tools to provide justice for all individuals. Whereas, Hamletis play that discusses how the protagonist is unable to follow through with his decisions to avenge his father s murder. During both the Elizabethan Era and King Henry s reign the political and religious systems of society were corrupt. In the play Hamlet, there is clear evidence of corruption and weakening of the state under Claudius s rule. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark depicts Shakespeare s intellectual ability of not only reflecting political and religious norms, but also of commenting on how political and religious power can lead to corruption within humanity. In A Man for All Seasons, the people of England let society and political leaders dictate their morals and values. The characters Wolsey, Cromwell, and the Pope are political/religious leaders that forsake their conscience, which means becoming corrupted. During these era s, the Common Man followed their Kings and Queens and if the political officials of England are corrupted, society will follow, leading to a route of destruction. Therefore, this affects how individuals make decisions according to society s political and religious norms because if society s norms become corrupted then so do the decisions made by individuals. For example, in A Man for All Seasons, the Common Man liked and supported Thomas More however, they decided to remain silent, which is why they are also indirectly responsible for More s death. This displays that in a corrupted society individuals are likely to make decisions that are unknowingly corrupt just to fit society s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Effects Of Betrayal In The Renaissance The end of the Middle Ages and the flowering of the Renaissance brought many shifts to European societal structure. The face of Christianity changed considerably from the fourteenth century to the mid sixteenth century, beginning with disagreement over who should hold absolute power, the Pope or the Holy Roman Emperor. While the corporate Catholic church had once maintained a fairly unified influence on society, a more nuanced form of Christianitybegan developing, leading to reformed religious groups with opposing views, namely the Protestants and Anglicans. In the wake of differing opinions, people s group identification determined what people they sided with and who they wouldn t tolerate. With more complex religious and political perspectives, people could distance themselves ideologically from peers, family, and leaders. Frequent mentions of treacherous actions within the literature of this time demonstrates that these differing views made people feel betrayed by their associates. The idea of betrayal is prominent in the lives and texts of several authors of this period, including Dante, Thomas More, and NiccolГІ Machiavelli. From a Christian perspective, betrayal was a grave sinbefitting serious punishment, while it was irrational from a Humanist perspective and an inevitable, even beneficial part of mankind from an amoral perspective. • 14. Persuasion, The, And Free Choice Essay Persuasion has been around as long as anyone could remember, from persuasion in the Aristotle era to present day persuasion, it has been defined in many ways. There are many common themes that are associated with these different definitions. Activity/process, attempt to induce change, change in beliefs, attitudes, or behaviors, transmission, and free choice is a few of the common themes presented throughout time. (Perloff, 1933) The art of persuasionhas always been a part of society, through many techniques people have now been able to persuade others. Techniques such as attention getting, confidence building, desire, urgency stressing, and response seeking are how society gets persuaded. These techniques are used in print/digital advertising, TV commercials, politics, etc. This is important to know, due to the fact that some persuaders are just using techniques to build sales, con their way into something, or simply getting the people to give into their beliefs. Therefore, people could be believing something that isn t actually doing what they claim it does. Recently, the use of persuasive tactics has been very blunt in politics, due to the 2016 Election. Both sides (Republican and Democrat) were using techniques in which connected with the public, thus making this election very nerve wrecking. Other industries who are very dominant in persuasion is the fashion industry due to women being more susceptible to advertising in which body and the social image is the key ... Disruption-Tolerant Networking Essay Survey of Routing protocols of Delay Tolerant Networks Bansari Chauhan Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Michigan State University East Lansing, USA chauha10@msu.edu Abstract Delay Tolerant Networks are intermittent networks which don t have constant connectivity between its nodes. Though it has evolved from mobile ad hoc network (MANET), its protocols cannot be used because of intermittency. They have finite coverage of bandwidth, nodes that are scattered widely (which can be mobile), limited energy resources, variable delay and data rates that vary according to direction. This leads to high error rate. Such networks can be in extreme terrestrial locations or planned networks in space. Since DTNs are prone to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, conventional routing strategies cannot be used in DTNs, thus new routing protocols need to be devised which are quite different from the conventional ones. Other features of DTNs include lack of constant connectivity between end to end nodes. Moreover, since there are no immediate path connections for data packets to reach their destinations, the latency for data delivery is high, and thus, data rates are low. Other problems also include long queuing delays and finite longevity of a single node. Transporting or transferring data from source to destination is called as routing. Since DTNs have scarce resources, it is important to utilize these resources wisely and new techniques need to be devised which can do that. For efficient routing in DTNs, nodes need to keep information about link establishment in future and use buffer resources carefully to save power. DTNs mostly use the technique of store and carry forward nodes, since there is no way to detect which nodes can efficiently deliver the data packets. This makes the security and reliability of data a challenging issue when dealing with DTNs, which is why DTNs can be differentiated from its parent network, MANET. Companies that were involved in this investigation include Mead Johnson Nutrition of the United States, Dumex which is owned by Danone, Wyeth which is owned by Nestle, Abbotts and Friesland Campine, Biostime, and Beignmate. There are only a few firms that make up this industry and they have control over the price. These companies have high barriers to entry the market. The products they produce are similar which cause competition. There is both good and bad when it comes to oligopoly and monopolies. Some good things about oligopoly are by developing product innovations and taking advantage of economies of scale. With oligopoly it is more likely to expand production capabilities, promote economic growth, and they develop change that advances the level of technology ( Oligopoly, 2000). Some bad things about oligopoly is that they tend to be inefficient in the allocation of resources and promotes the concentration of income and wealth ( Oligopoly, 2000). They charge much higher prices and end up producing less of an output than the efficiency benchmark of perfect competition. One of the good forms is natural monopoly. Natural monopoly exists when economies of scale encourage production by a single producer (Mayer). An example of this is your local electrical utility. As a power plant increases, the cost per kilowatt hour of electricity falls (Mayer). If we were to all use small generators to run our homes the cost of each household would be ridiculous. The total fixed cost of generators for the community would be high and the variable cost of running it would also be high. Another form of monopoly that is good is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. An Essay on Modernism Modernism describes the ideology of the art and design that were produced during the modernist period. There has been a lot of controversy about when modernism started, yet many believe it initiated sometime in the late 19th century and continued to the early 20th century. The modernist movement was meant to be a break from traditions and it was set up to separate the value of certain works from the conservative realism. For instance, Unlike the traditional art that was aesthetic, this movement was more about space and form. In modernist design, shape and organization of products and buildings were based on their functional requirements. As a result, designs became simpler without the traditional decorative concepts. In brief, modernist design is innovative. Space, form and structure is based on the functional requirements. Designs became simple and without overwhelming traditional aesthetic concepts. Therefore, technology together with simpler design made the product easy to be mass produced. After the first World War, designers in central Europe intended to change the world for better through art by rejecting ornamentation as it resembled of the past generations whom withstood the unpleasant effects of war and poverty (Smith, 2005). One hundred and thirty thousand people were relocated to these camps without any proof of wrongdoing or just trial. Later she released a graphic novel titled Citizen 13660. The way that Japanese Americans Behaved and Experienced the Interment Camp programs reveals elements of their culture and community. Interestingly, the style of writing in this book is filled with some blunt comedy, along with detailed black and white sketches. The timeline of the book starts from when she was living in Europe, then migrates the USA and thereafter is inducted into the camps. • 35. Egyptian Devil Disease Tasmanian Devils are small marsupials that possess rat like features such as sharp teeth, black or brown fur and are roughly 20 to 31 inches tall. These creatures possess poor temperament, growling, baring teeth and lunging when provoked or under threat. Because of their aggressive behavior, they are solitary creatures, only interacting with one another during the mating seasons of March. They give birth to up to 20 young during this time, however the female as only four teats, meaning only four of the imps can survive. Many scientists have expressed their own opinions, but none have been found to be officially accurate on the matter. Many researchers including A M Pearse, K.Swift, after much research, came to the conclusion that DFTD spread through Allograft, the means of cancerous cells spread from one animal to another through physical interactions such as biting, fighting or mating. This process of spreading is much like that of a transplant, and once the cancer cell has entered the devil s body, it develops the mechanism to go through and resist the attacks of the immune system. For this particular reason, a proper vaccine as not been discovered yet and the Tasmania devils have no actual cure to save them from this widespread disease. The Allograft theory has not been confirmed to be the case yet as it does not apply to the rules of normal cancerous cells and diseases sparked from those cells. However, once more information regarding this cancerous disease has been established, scientists can work towards finding some form of medical treatment for the devils. Having said that, more scientific mechanisms to save the devils has been proposed, including one of which may be what saves the Tasmanian Devils. In recent years, an authorized project known as the Maria Island Devil Translocation has taken place, and already has produced results and statistics that look promising for the Tasmanian Devil s species. The Maria Island project, which started in 2012, is a rehabilitation program that selects both wild and captive devils and places them on Maria Island, a small island located off to the east of Tasmania. Maria Island is a land free of DFTD due to Tasmanian devils not being a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Flaws In The Movie Kingdom Of Heaven The movie Kingdom of Heaven is a very good movie. It is biased off of the crusades more specifically the second crusade. However, no matter how good any movie is there is always flaws, this one is no different. The amount of flaws I am able to choose from is tremendous. I have categorized them into three main topics. First I will be talking about the false things that have to do with Balian himself. Next will be the weapons them self s and how they fire/are used and outcomes of them. Last I will state many of the other false tings in the movie and back up why they are false. In the movie there are many incorrect elements about Balian and surrounding Balian. One of the larger issues I can see is that he is not from France. As Helena P. Schrader says Balian was born in the crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. The movie started out with a scene of Balian burying his dead wife. Several men ride by on horses and one says She was a suicide cut her head off... but she really never committed suicide. Believe it or not the long bow wasn t on the Europe main land until many years after it was invented. According to Max Perham the longbow was invented by the Celts in Wales around 1180, but was not really used by the English military until the 1300 s. Also according to Virginia Ream the army s attacking would not just bombard the castle walls. There were people that would dig under the castle s walls to weaken them then they would fire at that area to bring them down. I found more information on this mining strategy on medieval castles.net. The large battle scenes were almost funny on how the catapults and trebuchets they had fired. The study identifies that Tanzania s major export commodities to Germany include primary goods and few intermediate and manufactured goods, while it imports significant volumes of finished manufactured goodsfrom Germany. By this structure of trade, Tanzaniais perhaps locked to concentrate on production of natural and primary goods; this has a better outcome in the short term, but leads to several problems in the long term which can future hinder its speed of development. In this case, Tanzania needs to establish strategies that can assist in improving production of manufactured goods so as to boost its benefits... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of a qualitative method and a telephone interview analysis were important tools in obtaining the data needed to answer the research question. Some opportunities identified include increased employment; export expansion, cultural interchange etc. Risks mentioned included corruption, bureaucracy and variation in commodity price among others. Tanzania needs to make effective use of the opportunities since it has a high economic growth potential that could see its position advancing from a less developed country to an intermediate or even a highly developed country. Corruption, among other risks, is presented to be a major problem in Tanzania. The author agrees that combating corruption is not an easy action which can be done by the government alone, rather through support from all citizens. Nevertheless, the current government has already started taking measures to combat corruption in the country. This was evident when the Tanzanian president started by removing top director generals and other government officials that were either embezzling national funds or practicing corrupting procedures. It s the researcher s hope that if this development continues, the new phase of Tanzania is likely to come which will result in increasing trade performance and strengthened trade ties between Germany and ... Children Need a Healthy Breakfast How Not Having a Healthy Meal in the Morning affects Children America is often referred to as the most developed country worldwide where everything is easily accessible to residents. Recent research has shown that 50 million Americans lack access to safe and nutritious food in the home, 17 million of which are children. A perfect example of this can be seen in the recent film, A Place at the Table where. Rosie, an 8 year old girl living in Colorado expressed the difficulty that she finds in concentrating in school due to stomach discomfort. According to Rosie she spends most of her time in class fighting her cravings while uncontrollably thinking of apples, oranges and bananas. Rosie is just one of the 17 million children who does not have desert at nights. Most times when you picture a starving child, America is the last place to come to mind. Being one of the most economically advanced countries in the world, America is said to be the land of dreams and opportunities and the home of proud citizens. However, in the recent film A Place at the Table , this idea was tarnished. The film sought to expose the presence of hunger in the United States through the documentation of the life of Americans who are unable to afford food. Jeff Bridges took on the role of a devoted advocate in the battle against starvation in America. Ethanol in Engines Ethanol at the moment is present as a blended fuel with petrol. As it is blended with petrol, this increases efficiency for the ethanol but decreases the petrol s very own efficiency. Although ethanol is a better fuel to run through an engine avoid or alleviate knocking and pre ignition. Although the efficiency of petrol may be brought down, by having the ethanol, this increases the overall octane number of petrol thus allowing for a greater compression. So what is the importance of the compression ratio in a car? Recently, cars such the Mazda 3 with the SkyActiv engine can get as far as 17.9 kilometres on one litre of fuel due to the engines high compression ratio. The compression ratio is the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the bottom, and the volume of the combustion chamber when the piston is at the top (Deaton, 2011). Ethanol has a compression ratio of 14.5 16.1:1 whereas petrol has a ratio of 10:1 or lower as a higher compression could potentially lead to knocking in petrol engines. By having the ethanol blend with petrol, this then allows for increased fuel efficiency for ethanol but decreased efficiency for petrol. The energy that comes from the combustion from either ethanol or petrol comes from burning these hydrocarbons in order for the oxygen from the air to combine and combust (See Ethanol and the Environment for more). Energy is produced when the hydrocarbon bonds between the carbon and the hydrogen and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All types of governments from local politics to federal bureaucracies to huge empires maintain their authority through specific techniques, including fostering a shared identity (nationalism), developing economic interdependence, and sometimes using overt force. Challenges to that authority through violent and nonviolent revolution can have significant consequences, including the collapse and replacement of whole systems of governance. You have studied multiple forms of governance (including ancient and contemporary empires) and resistance to authority (in both violent and nonviolent revolutions) that occurred in societies within the Americas, India, Southeast Asia, and Africa. In this task, you will examine systems of governance and the reactions of the governed peoples in specific areas of the world. Task: A. Discuss the rise of imperialism or colonialism in one area of the world from India. India came under British colonialism or imperialism via subterfuge from the British and through their desire for expansion and money. It all started with the European trading advantages that Europe enjoyed in India and with unrest of the country with Hindu majority and Muslims. Between 1450 1750, Dutch traders stepped into the Indies whilst British traders took advantage of the weak Mughal Empire and during the Seven Years War emerged victorious over France and became the dominant ... Although at just age four management of Sea World decided that Kalina was too much of a distraction when her mother was performing in shows. They relocated baby Kalina to another park separating the baby from her mother. That same night her mother made a very high pitched long distance call trying to find her daughter.
