1. Essay Speech Example
Writing an essay on the topic "Essay Speech Example" can be quite challenging. The difficulty
lies in the need to not only convey information but also to demonstrate a clear understanding of
the subject matter. Crafting an essay speech example involves striking a balance between
eloquence and coherence, ensuring that each paragraph seamlessly transitions to the next.
Additionally, it requires a thorough understanding of the conventions of essay writing, such as
the introduction, body, and conclusion structure.
One of the challenges is articulating thoughts in a way that captures the reader's attention from
the very beginning. A compelling introduction is essential to pique interest and set the tone for
the entire essay. Next comes the body, where the writer must elaborate on the chosen topic,
providing relevant examples and supporting evidence. Achieving a smooth flow between
paragraphs while maintaining a logical progression can be a daunting task.
Furthermore, the conclusion should not merely summarize the essay but leave a lasting
impression. It should reflect on the key points discussed and leave the reader with something to
ponder. Balancing depth of analysis with brevity in the conclusion is another layer of complexity.
Aside from structural challenges, selecting the right words, phrases, and examples to convey the
intended message can be demanding. Ensuring that the language is both persuasive and
informative requires careful consideration and often multiple revisions.
In conclusion, writing an essay speech example is a multifaceted task that demands a
combination of analytical skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of the topic. It is a process
that involves refining ideas, organizing thoughts coherently, and polishing language to engage
the reader effectively.
For those seeking assistance with such endeavors, various resources are available. Similar essays

2. How Does New Culture Affect The Behaviors Of ELL
Students
If one is unfamiliar with the behaviors of ELL students, they might mistake the
student s actions for behavioral problems. It can be extremely difficult for a
student to adjust to a new culture, language, and school. The emotional
repercussions of all those changes can be extremely taxing on students and can
affect their work. One cannot assume that these behaviors are a result of a bad and
careless student; the teacher needs to get to the root of the problem and figure out
what is causing the student to behavior in that manner. If a student is extremely
quiet in class and refusing to participate, one cannot assume that it is because they
do not want to learn. Some student will go through a silent phase while they are
acquiring a new language. They are getting used to using a new language, so it
might take some time for them to become comfortable speaking. The student should
be given time to adjust properly and might feel more comfortable talking one on
one instead of in a large group or in front of the class. They may also go through a
period where... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One might have a student who comes into class happy and eager to learn, until
slowly they lose interest and start to become depressed. The student is just going
through the phases of culture shock. It is just their transition from the honeymoon
phase to the culture shock phase. It is veryhard for a kid to transition into a new
culture, so they may get discouraged when they are not doing as well in class as
they would like. They also might try and reject the culture because it is different and
unfamiliar to them, which could also result in them becoming depressed. It is a
natural process and the teacher should do all they can to ease the transition and help
the student to adjust. Once they get over the culture shock stage hump, they will
enter the integration and assimilation stages where they will adjust to their new life
and begin to do better in
3. Biography Of Jimmy Carter
Jimmy Carter s always wanted American citizens to think he was truly a good ole
boy from South Georgia. He did this by taking a different approach to the White
House when he came to Washington, D.C as the 39th President. Things that were
important to President Carter weren t always important to past president of the
United States. He wanted the American people to care about their familyroots. He
showed this by appointing fellow Georgians that were knowledgeable of his family
history as his closest advisors including Hamilton Jordan, Jody Powell, Andrew
Young, Bert Lance, and Frank Moore. President Carter had a continuous love to
learn about his family heritage while in the White House. His love for his family
heritage started as a young child when his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the site of Andersonville where confederate soldiers were held imprisoned. Jimmy
was very interested in Andersonville and the impression it left on Sumter County.
He would spend hours in the Lake Blackshear Regional Library researching topics
of Andersonville and Littleberry Carter, his great grandfather that had joined a
militia called Sumter Flying Artillery. Jimmy Carter s interest in his family tree has
only heightened over the years. He still to this day loves visiting local libraries and
courthouses looking for new information on his family history. President Carter is
now in the works writing a book about the Revolutionary War in Georgia and
member of his family are the characters. This will be the first time a President has

4. Should A Business Have Civil Liability For The Criminal...
Should a Business have civil liability for the criminal acts of its employee? Over
the years, civil suits have been brought against firms because of the actions of their
employees. Firms are expected to have a duty of care to select, train and supervise
their employees since these employees were hired to represent them ( An
Employers liability , 2014). If a criminal act is committed by an employee, then
there has been a breach of the duty of care. Many advocates of these suits have
come under the doctrine of respondeat superior (Lype, 2000)which lays liability on
a firm if its employee commits an illegal act under employment and the criminal
act was carried out to seek benefit. Hence, the admission of civil liability by a
company for criminal acts of its employees is dependent on variable factors which
should be considered before the firm can be deemed liable or not. Acting Within
the Scope of Employment A company can be held liable if the criminal act
committed was within the scope of employment and is beneficial to the firm.
Employees are representatives of a firm and their actions within the scope of the
firm are received as the actions of the firm. To act within the scope of employment,
the employee must have the actual delegated authority to act or engage in a
particular act (Lype, 2000). It is assumed an employee who has delegated authority is
acting within and representing the firm. The firm can be therefore held liable for any
criminal act committed by the
5. The Works of Magritte Essay
Rene Magritte was an enigmatic and strange man who painted surrealism paintings.
Little is known about his childhood except that his mother, Regine Magritte took
her own life by drowning herself in the Sambre river. Young Magritte is thought to
have discovered her body floating with her night garment covering her face. There
is speculation that this trauma was an influence on many of Magritte s works.
When Rene Magritte took up his brushes, he created beautiful visual riddles that
delight and bewilder the viewer. His clean lines and highly detailed finishes made
his brush strokes nearly invisible; his paintings look as if they came from a printing
press. Magritte referred to his paintings as his labors. He did labor over the paintings

The exploration of the mind and the way our conscious mind perceives the
symbols of our subconscious minds was new ground and it gave art a new voice
with which to sing. The surrealist artists believed the dream state and subconscious
mind to be an untapped and very fertile creative fount of inspiration. The
symbolism of dreams and the expressive images generated by the subconscious
were far more thought provoking than the representational, logical images of the
conscious mind. The surrealist artists were creating art out of what others thought
to be garbled and unintelligible. They were in effect taking a concept created to
heal and using it to create art instead. They were on to something with this. No
matter what the medium or the style used, a bit of the self becomes visible and
evident in the result. Art therapy is one of the modern descendants of this
movement. The movement spread and soon there were surrealist groups cropping
up in the metro areas of the world. It was around this same time that Rene Magritte
was shown a painting by Giorgio de Chirico and soon became member of the
surrealist group. Today, the name Magritte has come to be synonymous with
Surrealism. It may have been that Magritte felt attraction to the surrealist movement
because of its ability to convey an idea with great eloquence as well as its focus on
the deeply meaningful rather than the superficial. His statement about the works of
Giorgio de Chirico supports this
6. Computer Interaction Has Changed Within The Economy
Within recent years human computer interaction has changed within the economy I
will discuss three factors which interlink with this. These are increased automation,
productivity and varied working environments.
Increased automation
oBank
Firstly you have increased automation within a banking environment you now have
three main ways of banking. 1. Online 2. Telephone Banking 3. Branch most major
banks have introduced productive ways of banking to suit economy. Know two
individuals bank the same everyone likes something different you will find that
generation will fuel the channel in which and individual will decide to bank.

This is a prime example of how changes within the economy are effecting those who
work for the banks and also customers of the bank.
It could be argued that making changes can help economy as more avenues have
been introduced giving customers more choice. This allows for any customer who
works antisocial hours take control of their banking, it allows for every customer to
be treated fairly as everyone has the same opportunities with their banking. For
example savings account online normally have a higher interest rate to those offered
in branch these accounts are optional for every customer however you need to bank
online to manage the account therefore you automatically introducing yourself to a
new avenue of banking.
It could be argued that making changes is harming the economy as manual labour is
taking a cut therefore more individuals are unemployed. More unemployment puts a
strain on the government this would then be costing the government.
Increased automation
oretail (Inc. stock levels/reordering)
Within the retail environment there has also been many changes which have had a
knock on effect with the economy. The two many factors which need to be consider
would be stock levels and reordering of stock.
So for reordering stock and checking stock levels you can invest in an accounting
software which will check your stock levels on a regular bases allowing for less

7. What Is Cynthia Ozick Use Of Figurative Language In The
Shawl
The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick is short story in which a mother, her child, and her
niece are described as they walk through a concentration camp during the
Holocaust. This work is well known for its prominent use of figurative language.
For a story about the Holocaust, it may seem odd as to why this language was used
instead of a factual style of writing which is common in these types of stories. Ozick
uses figurative language excessively in attempt to describe such a horrific situation.
Some may criticize the author and even take offense to the way the story was written,
but it does not have the same effect when told differently. Most accounts of the
Holocaustare hard to comprehend, even for those who experienced it themselves.
Ozick stated in an interview that even if everyone were to spend the next five
thousand years absorbing and assimilating the documents, it still... Show more content

Throughout the story, it is used to protect, shield, and comfort Magda. She is
described by Ozick as a squirrel in a nest, safe where no one could reach her inside
the little house of the shawl s windings. Magda seems to oddly be completely
shielded from the surrounding horror of the holocaust. Stella openly envies
Magda, not just because of her innocence, but also for her eyes that were blue
tigers (Ozick). Later in the story it is realized that not even it can protect her. This
shows how helpless the Jews and other minorities felt as they approached their
inevitable death. In the last paragraph this is even further displayed. Rosa goes
through scenarios in which she could save Magda, but no matter what she decides
to do, someone will get hurt or killed. After witnessing the horrifying death of her
child, Rosa attempts to escape everything by sucking on the shawl just as Magda
did. This is a symbol of a longing for innocence. However, as seen with what
happened to Magda, nothing could save anyone from this
8. Financial Statement For A Company s Core Business
1. by having a Good Operating Margin which is a margin ratio used in measuring a
company s pricing strategy and operating efficiency. Thus the operating margin.
Measures your operating profitability, it indicates how much of each dollar of
revenues used is left over after both costs of goods sold and operating expenses are
considered. Operating margins are important because they measure efficiency. The
higher the operating margin, the more profitable a company s core business is. for
example I Created a Mock report Called Dean s Report I report the following
Numbers on my Financial statement for my Event I held.
Net Sales: $1,000,000
Cost of Goods Sold: $700,000
Rent: $20,000
Wages: $100,000
Other Operating Expenses: $50,000
Net sales all operating expenses = 530,000
Then Create a Formula Similar to this
Operating margin .53 = 530,000 operating income______________________Net
sales 1,000,000
As you can see, Dean s operating income is $530,000 (Net sales all operating
expenses). According to the formula used, Dean s operating margin is .53. This
means that 57 cents on every dollar of sales is used to pay for variable costs. Only 53
cents remains to cover all non operating expenses or fixed costs.

11. I Love The Way You Lie Analysis
After specific examination, I found that a rather catchy pop song, in fact, had a
deeper and darker theme to it because of the issues referenced within. Clear up until
now, I never clearly understood what was happening in the catchy pop song, I Love
the Way You Lie by Eminem and Rihanna. I knew nothing of the toxic and abusive
relationship told in the song. To me Lovethe Way You Lie was a simple pop song
with: a catchy chorus, repetitive beat, and an unintelligible rap part that seemed to
slur together. The song had no meaning, there was nothing that stuck out to me.
Though after thorough examination, I found that my current opinions on the song
were false. In truth, this song had a deep and darker meaning to it. During the song,

12. Symbolism, And Personification In Thanatopsis By
William...
In the poem Thanatopsis by William Cullen Bryant, he uses many literary devices
such as personification, symbol, and simile to reveal the meaning of the work. The
meaning of the poem is most easily stated that, people should approach death
pleasantly. With each device Bryant uses, he intricately places them in the writing as
well as has them frame the poem. This is what makes Thanatopsis so easy to
understand even though the author is using such cultured ideas. His ability to portray
the meaning through these devices shows the sophistication of his writing as well as
his thoughts. By using these literary devices, the audience better comprehends how
vital it is to learn the meaning. Bryant uses personification throughout the whole
poem with the use of nature to help the audience s minds comprehend the goal of
the writing. The poem gives a lady the role of Nature and She has a voice of
gladness, and a smile And eloquence of beauty; and she glides Into darker musings,
with a mild And healing sympathy that steals away (4 7). This quote is
demonstrating that the lady glides into the sad thoughts of dying people and
brightens them up. Also, to let them know that she is there to support them when
they are afraid of death. By giving Nature a personality it makes the poem more
relatable and comforting which works with the meaning of a pleasant death. Bryant
uses Nature to calm our worries of death. Almost like the idea of Mother Nature,
which is usually related with
13. Cut Up Onion Room Experiment
Title: The effects of a cut up onion room at room temperature vs. the refrigerator.
Authors: Torri Foco, Kaitlyn Kenyon, Marie VanSipe Introduction: Are onions
poisonous when you cut them up and put them in the refrigerator in an airtight
container? People cut up onions, seal them in a zip lock or some sort of container,
and stick them in the refrigerator all the time without getting sick. People have been
doing this for quite some time now and there have never been any concerns with
doing this before. Why is it that we believe everything we read on the internet? It is
so easy for people to believe incorrect information that gets circulated on the web
through social media. For example, this experiment all started because of a Facebook

14. Theorems Of A Penalty Kick
Now, how do these two theorems help in analysing a penalty shootout?
Let us first see what a penalty kick is? When do players receive a penalty kick?
Penalty kick is a direct free kick that is taken from the penalty spot which is 12
yards from the goal. Only the goalkeeper is allowed to stand between the player
taking the penalty kick and the goal. All other players need to stand behind the
penalty taker. Penalty kicks are performed during normal play. They are awarded
when a foul that is punishable by a direct free kick is committed within the offending
player s own penalty area. Similar kicks are made in a penalty shootout in major
international tournaments such as the World Cup to determine which team is
victorious after a drawn match.
So the striker lines up with the ball in front of him. He runs forwards and kicks the
ball towards the net and the goalkeeper tries to stop it. ... Show more content on

Although the goalkeeper dives after the striker has kicked the ball, he cannot
actually wait to the ball comes off the foot to decide which way to dive because the
ball moves so fast, it will already be behind him by the time he finishes his dive. So
the goalkeeper must pick his strategy before observing any relevant information from
the striker.
This type of game is actually very common. Both players pick a side. One player
wants to match sides (the goalie), while the other wants to mismatch (the striker).
That is, from the striker s perspective, the goalkeeper wants to dive left when the
striker kicks left and dive right when the striker kicks right; the striker wants to
kick left when the goalie dives right and kick right when the goalie dives left. The
same case happens in basketball where a shooter wants a defender to break the
wrong way to give him an open lane to the basket, while the defender wants to stay
lined up with the ball

As I walked among the frozen souls, the silence that surrounded them was

now honored among the archangels, Joan chose to lead souls through the depths of
the Inferno to reach Paradiso and continue her life s work to inspire others. And
now she lead me through the 9th circle of hell, into the farthest edges of the cavern
where I could no longer seeing front of me. Before I could turn to Joan and ask her

thousands upon thousands of pyres, and damned souls tied to stakes above them,
naked and beaten to almost beyond recognition. But what truly struck me was the
noise there had been such silence for so long, and now, the cries of anguish and
pain nearly broke my heart. I turned away, and Joan led me to a twisting staircase,
and we began climbing and climbing, up and up the spire.
16. The Homeless Are A Vulnerable Population Essay
The homeless are a vulnerable population. They are defined by the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services as an individual who lacks housing
(without regard to whether the individual is a member of a family), including an
individual whose primary residence during the night is a supervised public or
private facility (e.g., shelters) that provides temporary living accommodations,
and an individual who is a resident in transitional housing. (The National Health
Care for the Homeless Council, 2016). They are a social group throughout the US
who are susceptible to all of the life s cruelties. They are much more at risk for
adverse illnesses due to their lack of available resources and medical help. Many
have predetermined illnesses which need daily treatment but cannot acquire the
medication needed. The homeless population lacks the funding for life s
necessities, thus the luxury of insurance and medicine is a dream. The homeless
are the epitome of vulnerable. Alone, defenseless, and exposed. A person being
alone and on the streets can begin to develop mental issues. They have no friends
/family to talk to and confide in. A person who is already weak from the homeless
lifestyle can be attacked by anyone; other homeless people fighting for their life or
the unjust people of this world. This could leave them injured without aid. The
world can be a harsh place, and being exposed to the weather can be the worst factor.
The summers can be boiling hot and the winters cold as

Modernism has its origins in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and it is
characterized by a break with traditional styles of norms and rules. Modernism
experiments with literary form and expression, and it is driven by a desire to
overturn traditional modes of representation, and express new topics and sensibilities
of their time. In the short story, The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber we hear
about man versus nature, and we are being presented to the literary techniques of the
modern era for example the iceberg method. In the following I will focus on

thinking that he is going to own everything and kill every animal in his way. When
he gets there he realizes that it is not that simple. He is a civilized person who is
not adapted to nature, and he is not capable of handling situations like hunting a
lion. When he fails the shooting of the lion he becomes very ashamed, and he feels
humiliated. Francis makes sure that Wilson is not going to tell about the mistake
to anyone, because it would ruin the image he is trying to create. His wife,
Margaret, does not want to talk to him, and on the way home from the lion hunt,
she ...had reached forward and put her hand on Wilson s shoulder. He turned and
she had leaned forward over the low seat and kissed him on the mouth (page 12,
line 31 33). Margaret is all about pushing limits. She tries to awaken the wild and
jealous side of Macomber, by kissing Wilson right in front of him and having sex
with him. She is not happy in her marriage, but she does not want to leave her
husband because of his money. Therefore she tries to change him, and make him
more of a man, by provoking him to change. When Macomber shoots the buffalos, he
does undergo a big change to a more manly and fearless character. When he returns to
the bush where one of the buffalos went in to, it abruptly comes

It s more than difficult living in a drug plagued, impoverished community. These
places are often ignored, but just as important as anywhere else. The film Moonlight,
directed by Barry Jenkins, is meant to demonstrate the hardships of living in a
difficult community. Thematically, it highlights the already difficult nature of being
black in modern America, while simultaneously showing the hardship of also being
gay in said tough community. The film is comprised into three acts surrounding the
development of the protagonist, Chiron (in order of acts: Alex R. Hibbert, Ashton
Sanders, and Trevant Rhodes). Following him as he struggles with his own sexuality.
Consequentially, each act circles back to Chiron at a local beach, which for him, is...

The blocking in this scene is also a foreshadow for the rest of the movie. In the
beginning, Chiron is scared and unsure of who he is, turning to the help of others
like Juan and his girlfriend, Teresa. However, after trial and tribulation, Chiron learns
how to swim on his own. He slowly starts understanding how to cope with his
sexuality even if he s not accepted. And unfortunately, for most of the film, Chiron is
subjected to the sad realities that engulf everyone around him.
As expected, this happy scene is cut short as Chiron is dropped off at home to find
his mother with drugs and a stranger in the house. The scene is meant to immediately
draw the viewer back to the real world, the one Chiron has grown up in. In actuality,
Chiron can t just escape the situation he was born into. The mise ГЁn scene used in
this moment is meant to demonstrate how the mother is quickly losing grasp of a
happy life; trying to escape their reality by any means necessary. The blocking of
Paula portrays her as anxious and angry, grabbing what appears to be drugs from
her dining table. The lighting is also dark and the house is dirty, reinforcing the idea
that her life is slipping away. This is just one of many situations in which Chiron is
snapped back into reality after feeling accepting for who he is.
Act two cuts to Chiron as a high schooler. Like before, his quiet nature seems to get

21. Objectivity in Journalism
Journalists should express their ideologies and opinions while covering poverty,
however, at the same time they should aim to maintain the objectivity and
impartiality standards for effective and truthful and accurate reporting.
In news reporting, objectivity is seen as one of the chief values for journalists. The
objectivity norm guides to separate the facts from opinions and focus on reporting
only the factual content, resulting in neutral and detached reports rather than
emotional ones (Schudson, 2001). On the other hand, reporting poverty appears as a
more complex and sensitive issue which may often require the journalist to put
forward some of their views to provide the reader with more realistic portrayal of a
situation.

more sensitive approach seems appropriate while reporting on issues such as poverty,
he states that journalists should still try to remain objective (Quoted in Harcup, 2009:
92).
While reporting on poverty, the notion of objectivity should be used a guideline for
journalists to ensure accurate and realistic reporting rather than merely providing the
readers with personal and subjective ideas on the issue. Boyer (1981) suggested that
objectivity can be defined as balancing different sides of an issue and presenting all
the significant points; separating facts from values, but considering the values as
relevant; minimising the influence of personal opinions, attitude or involvement with
the case; and finally avoiding any malicious, deceitful or slant purposes (Cited in
Watson, 1998: 98).
The coverage of poverty in the news includes a number of representations, which are
not always an accurate portrayal of the situation but often constitute facts and
reinforce stereotypes. The general understanding of global poverty for the public is
derived from the media
22. Transient Global Amnesia Research Paper
Overview
Transient global amnesia is a condition in which a person experiences a sudden
temporary incident of memory loss that cannot be explained by another neurological
condition like a stroke or epilepsy. It hinders the ability to recall recent events,
leaving the person unaware of where they are or how they got there. Additionally,
they might not remember what is happening in the present moment. They could
forget answers that were given to recent questions or be unable to recall events that
occurred at a specific time.
This form of amnesia does not affect the ability to recognize familiar people or
remember one s own name. However, it does not make its occurrence any less
unnerving. Fortunately, it is a rare condition that does not appear to cause any
significant harm and is unlikely to recur. Transient global amnesia does not last very
long, and memory returns to normal afterwards. ... Show more content on

23. Similarities Between Lincoln And Douglass
During the time of 1858, tension was high and many people were frustrated about
the idea of slavery in Illinois. Two people that seemed to be caught in the middle of
several feuds were Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. Lincoln and Douglas
were battling for a seat in the Illinois Senate. In seven debates they stated their
opinion on the main topic at the time, which was slavery. Lincoln thought the idea
of slavery was unjust and wanted to give slaves the same rights others had.
Douglas believed that slavery should be settled by popular sovereignty. Lincoln
and Douglas are similar because of their early political life, but are also different
because of their views on slavery and their political platform. During Lincoln s
early political years, He lived in a town called New Salem, Illinois, and began to
study law. In 1834, he was elected to be the legislature as a Whig, where he
criticized slavery as founded on both injustice and bad policy . Three years later
Lincoln moved to Springfield, and became a licensed attorney. He began to form a
partnership between John T. Stewart and soon got into local politics. Lincoln served
in Congress for two years, but his opposition to the Mexican War did... Show more

Lincoln opposed the expansion of the rail road, and thought that it was needed.
Douglas wanted to start a transcontinental railroad that would have Chicago as its

Nebraska Act. The act allowed citizens of the new territory to decided if they
wanted to enter the Union as a free or a slave state. The Douglas and the Democrats
believed that it would help solve some problems, but instead it displeased many
northerners. Lincoln also pointed out that Douglas view will cause problems with the
Dred Scott Decision, which would state that the citizens of the territory would not

26. Analysis Of The Poem I Am Struck By The Irony Between...
At one hundred years young, my grandmother passed away. As the matriarch of our
family, we felt both saddened and relieved to see her go. She was an independent,
educated, hardworking woman who cherished her family and friends. Stories she
shared about her youth and her numerous life experiences supported me and guided
me. Much of my personal identity formed in connection to her. My grandmother s
landscape, traditions, and identity lives on through me and my family. We, as people,
construct identities to both give life meaning and to make meaning of life.
Momaday makes meaning of his life and culture through the unique textual structure
of The Way to Rainy Mountain. While reading, I almost felt as if I was reading
poetry versus a novel. The inclusion of mythology makes the reading have a poetic
tone. Within this beautifully constructed piece of literature, I am struck by the irony
between Momaday s connection to his grandmother and the Kiowa treatment of
women.
In the introduction to Momaday s piece of literature, he reveals a deep connection
and reverence for his grandmother, Aho. Momaday values her life and her memories
because they give his life meaning and help him construct his personal identity. He
clearly expounded how, the immense landscape of the continental interior [of Rainy
Mountain] lay like a memory in her blood...[Momaday] wanted to see in reality what
she had seen more perfectly in the mind s eye (Momaday, 1969, p. 7). At this point,

27. Vitro Fertilisation ( Ivf ) Essay
In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is a form of assisted reproduction where the eggs from the
woman are extracted under anaesthetic and placed in a culture dish with thousands
of sperm, allowing the process of fertilisation to take place outside the body. The
resulting embryos are grown in the laboratory over 2 5 days before being transferred
back into the woman s uterus increasing the chance that a pregnancywill occur.
Pre implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a screening test used to determine if
genetic or chromosomal disorders are present in embryos produced through in vitro
fertilization (IVF). Preimplantation genetic diagnosis screens embryos before they
are transferred to the uterus so couples can make informed decisions about their next
steps in the IVF process. Embryos unaffected by the genetic or chromosomal disorder
can be selected for transfer to the uterus.
Why is the use of pre implantation genetic diagnosis a socio scientific issue?
Pre implantation genetic diagnosis is a socio scientific (PGD) issue because it
includes biological and social implications. People have different views and
opinions on PGD because while it can determine whether or not an embryo has a
genetic disease or not, it presents the idea that we are dehumanizing those who
already have these diseases and that we are playing God. PGD gives the opportunity
to couples to select the embryo that they wish to be transferred. It gives them the
option to choose the embryo before becoming
28. Clostridium Difficile Case Study
Introduction Clostridium difficile was initially thought to be part of the normal flora
and C. difficile infections were miss identified as Staphylococcus aureus or Candida
albicans. The C. difficile toxin was later identified in 1977 after a clinical trial using
clindamycin caused patients to have diarrhea. The next year, in 1978, antibioticuse
was quickly discovered as the major risk factor (Brymer, 2007). Clostridia belong to
the phylum Firmicutes and comprise a heterogeneous group consisting of at least 12
lineages. Morphological and phenotypic properties that have traditionally been used
to define the genus include the formation of endospores, anaerobic energy
metabolism, an inability to reduce sulfate to sulfide, and a Gram positive cell wall
structure. Clostridia usually form spores only under anaerobic conditions, they grow
better anaerobically than in air (Stevens,2015). Clostridium difficileinfection is the
most common infectious cause of diarrhea in the Intensive Care Unit.

Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen is one of the greatest novelists of English Literature. She was born in
1775 at Steventon in Hampshire, in the south of England. Her father was Reverend
George Austen, who was a well educated clergyman and who encouraged Austen
both in her reading and her writing. She started writing when she was fourteen, and
by her early twenties she was already working on the first versions of some of her
novels. She did not write about great events, like the French Revolution or the
Napoleonic Wars, both of which happened during her lifetime. Such forces were
remote from the restricted world that she depicts. She wrote about what she knew
best: the daily business of social visits, romantic affairs, and matchmaking. Her six

Farrel (1917) praised Austen for a most perfect mastery of her weapons, a most
faultless and precise adjustment of means to ends . In my opinion, Austen had a
unique skill at creating characters, which was an important part in her novels.
Especially in Pride and Prejudice, where the plot development is determined by the
characters. It is also important to mention that although human weakness is a
prominent element, ranging from Miss Bingley s jealousy to Elizabeth s blind
prejudices, outright evil is little in evidence. Austen maintains an attitude of good
humored irony toward her characters. The reader finds various forms of irony in
Pride and Prejudice. Sometimes the characters are unconsciously ironic, for
example when Mr. Bennet and Elizabeth serve to directly express Austen s own
ironic opinion. Another example is when Mr. Bennet turns his wit on himself when

Corporate Financial Policy and the Value of Cash
MICHAEL FAULKENDER and RONG WANGв€
— ABSTRACT
We examine the cross sectional variation in the marginal value of corporate cash
holdings that arises from differences in corporate financial policy. We begin by
providing semi quantitative predictions for the value of an extra dollar of cash
depending upon the likely use of that dollar, and derive a set of intuitive hypotheses
to test empirically. By examining the variation in excess stock returns over the fiscal
year, we find that the marginal value of cash declines with larger cash holdings,
higher leverage, better access to capital markets, and as firms choose greater cash
distribution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For firms whose cash reserves appear to greatly exceed their needs in the
foreseeable future, an additional dollar of cash reserves is more likely to be
distributed to equity holders through dividends and/or stock repurchases. However,
because of the dividend tax, only the fraction (1 в€’ П„ d ) ends up in the hands of
shareholders.3 As such, the marginal value of cash is reduced to (1 в€’ П„ d ),
which can be significantly below $1. Additionally, if firms use their cash to pay down
debt or other liabilities, a small increase in cash reserves partially goes to
increasing debt value, not solely to increasing equity value. Thus, the equity market
will place a lower value on an additional dollar of cash for high leverage firms
relative to the marginal value of cash for a firm with little debt. In contrast, for those
firms that need to raise cash from external markets because they have value
enhancing investment opportunities but their internal funds are low, the marginal
value of cash should be higher than $1, with the exact amount depending upon the
transactions costs (direct or otherwise) that are incurred by accessing the capital
markets. Therefore, the marginal value of cash should decline as cash holdings
increase because as the cash position of the firm improves, firms become more
likely to distribute funds and less likely to raise cash. We also argue that for firms
that face greater financing

The sounds of Gattaca are for the most part silenced, what one would think to be
loud is some what dumbed down, or muffled, This makes the mise en scene darker,
and mysterious. Which is what audiences think through the movie, how mysterious
all of Gattaca is. One scene in particular that shows of effective this technique is, is
in the opening scene. Objects are falling and it is very hard to make out what is
happening, but all is silent so there are no hints as to what the audience is seeing. As
it rolls on we see that these objects are actually hair and nail clippings and leaves the

However over time shots of Vincent start high and end low to show how Vincent has
changed as a character through the movie. Another example of shot selection is the
uses of close ups, on people and objects. These shots make the scene it is used in
more intense and it highlights key things that could show Vincent s true
34. The Constraints Of Constraint Management
A constraint is anything that limits a system from achieving higher performance
relative to its goal. Constraint management seeks to help managers at all levels of an
organization. It ensures that they maintain proper focus on the factors that are most
critical to overall success of system constraints. ConstraintManagement efforts can
immediately resolve extremely negative effects from machine, labor, and process
inefficiencies, and have the ability to fund an entire transition to lean through
substantial increases in throughput.
There are three rules to constraint management. They are identifying system
constraints, exploiting the constraint, and improving the constraint gaps. A business
owner or supervisor using the constraint model of management can t focus employees
on system constraints without first identifying those constraints. Naming the
constraints that are integral to a company s success, including company work policies
and manufacturing standards, sets up clear expectations for employees regarding
performance and productivity. Exploiting the constraint is the process by which a
company maximizes profit through use of a given system constraint. Tying the
completion of project steps by nonconstrained resources to completion by constrained
resources improves operational efficiency and closes gaps in schedules. (Lister, 2016).
On a daily basis, a company s constraint is the major regulating factor that decreases
the amount of material or items passing

Browning
In several countries tyrants abuse their power for their own benefit. Many people
must obey these cruel rulers or be punished if they disobey. People must live in fear
because of these tyrants, who use their power for their own satisfaction. In My Last
Duchess the Duke of Ferrara uses his power to control his subjects, and kills his wife
because of the way she acts around other men. From beginning to end My Last
Duchessby Robert Browningdisplays the corrupt power of the domestic tyrant, his
arrogance, jealousy, and the ruthlessness.
To begin, the Duke is displayed to be a corrupt leader. His tyrannical ways and
ideas of solving problems in his life are preposterous. The Duke is enraged that his
wife shows flirtatious expressions to other men that show kindness towards her.
The Duchess is killed because the Duke becomes frustrated with her actions This

This portrays the Duke s tyrannical ways, he demands her to stop, but she ignores
him, therefore the Duke decides to kill his wife. According to Robert Reese, The
Duchess smiles to the other men aroused an anger in the Duke so powerful that he
gave commands to have her killed . The Duke of Ferrara considers himself superior
to others and above laws and morality. He feels he can do anything he desires
without serving any sort of punishment. The Duke does indeed have an enormous
amount of power, and he uses all that power to be abusive to

In the downs of a small farm, two rabbits are preparing to flee their warren in order
to escape men come to kill them. Richard Adam s Watership Down follows these
two rabbits Hazel and Fiver as they gather a following and make their way across
the farmland to safety. The band of misfits looks to Hazel for guidance, and he
leads them to their haven: a warren atop the hills where the rabbits are safe and
sound. However, the need to keep the warren going pushes the rabbits to continue
exploring and find does in other warrens. While looking, they meet the Efrafa
warren. This warren is lead by General Woundwort, and immediately the two
parties are at odds with one another. The most noticeable difference is between the
leaders of the two warrens: Hazel and General Woundwort. Both Hazel and
General Woundwort are cunning; however, the leaders use their wits in different
ways. Hazel uses his wit for the betterment of his people, while General Woundwort
uses his to control and oppress his people. Some leaders are born into their
position, others rise to the occasion, and a small few seize the position themselves
the latter of the three describe both Hazel and General Woundwort. Their
motivation is what separates them. Hazel takes charge of his warren to protect
them, while General Woundwort climbs up the ladder of power using any means
available. In the beginning, Hazel s warren did not have a leader. It was merely a
band of misfit rabbits trying to leave their warren. Hazel proves himself a leader
when the Owsla, or rabbitpolice, come to arrest the rabbits that try to leave. After a
fight breaks out, Hazel steps forward to protect his brothers, Go, said Hazel, firmly
and quietly, Or we ll kill you (21). Hazel believes that if there is no way to get his
people out safely, then they will have to go out fighting. The instinct to protect and
fight for his people is how Hazel becomes the leader of his warren. His brave actions
make him becomes the Chief Rabbit of his warren. Hazel did not seek leadership, he
simply led. In contrast to this natural leadership, General Woundwort is more power
hungry and ruthless. He is the tyrant of his warren Efrafa. The narrator tells the story
of General Woundwort and how his

Wilson continued with a couple of TR s reforms. For example, the income tax to
support the people, and the federal reserve. During his term the prohibition of
drinking and selling alcohol was happening and act for women s right to vote was

that he appeared to have a dangerous messiah complex where he thought he could
save the world. He was convinced by the idea that he himself, and no one else was
able to enter the whole world into a new age of total peace. However, as a war
leader he was superb, in a way. He got the American people to believe they would
fight a war to make the world safe for democracy and forever peaceful. Out of
Wilson s idealism came his fourteen points, which he presented to Congress in
January of 1918. This appealed to people everywhere by promising such objectives
as ending secret treaties, freedom of the seas, and removing economic barriers. His
fourteenth point was the League of Nations, which was rejected by the Senate. He
did however get the Treaty of Versailles accomplished during his term in June of
1919. Having that said the treaty only included about four of the original fourteen
points. Wilson was a man of peace without victory, who many argued tried to keep us
out of war. Wilson wanted to remain neutral. However, this proved to be increasingly
impossible.
41. The Civil Rights Movement In Pan-Africanism And Black
Power
Black power is the result of provoking a century s worth of submission, struggle and
suffering. For many, America was considered divided between the whites and blacks,
which caused protest from the African Americans due to the racial inequality. For the
past century, blacks have led passive protest with little or no change to their well
being. Black poweraims to change that, one of their core ideology is that Blacks must
unite without the help of whites to face racismwhile not standing idle and using any
means necessary. Black power stems from the influences of Pan Africanism and
Black empowerment while also going against the core ideas present in Civil Rights
Movement like the nonviolence movement. The Black power protesters wanted
separation from the whites which is similar to the Pan Africanism movement
proposed by Marcus Garvey. Marcus Garvey is an advocate for black nationalism
and was a leader in the Pan Africanism movement. Marcus supported the idea of
going Back to Africa which was what the Pan Africanism movement was all about.
Garvey even founded a steamship company called Black Star Line with black
officers and crew. Comparatively, Black Power also has a strong stance on the
Back to Africa as Bayard Rustin says in Black Power and Coalition Politics,
...Negroes are once again turning to nationalistic slogans, with black power
affording the same emotional release as Back to Africa ... did in earlier periods of
frustration and hopelessness . This shows

life, but in her poetryas well. Despite the standards of verse being quite set in stone
at the time of its publication, Dickinsn followed in the footsteps of ?? and wrote
what she wanted, how she wanted. This unique sense of free verse is applied in her
poem The Sun, and that s not the only bold quality of the poem. In the same way it s
structure contains a ingenuous sense of freedom from regulations, the poems content
is centered around the view of the sun and narure in general, from the perspective of a
young child. Powerfully using this expanded metaphor, Dickinson adeptly manages
to spread the childlike infectous admiration of the sun, while boasting a stuning
imagery that immerses the reader in the experience of viewing the morning sky.
From the first line of the poem, Dickinson displays the feverish, inquisitive nature
fitting for the speaker of the whole poem: an observant child. Bursting with energy,
and assuming everyone shares in this animated sentiment, the speaker begins the first
stanza with the statement, I ll tell you how the sun rose as if the reader is not only
equally effervescent about the sun rising, but also is asking for details
43. Consequences Of Social Justice And Embrace Diversity
Throughout history social justice has proven to be a factor which has addressed
the prejudices involving people of all diversities. Social justice has shown no
partiality to the individual snared, tormenting the minds of those who have not been
just recipients of fairness. The victims of social injustice suffer greatly and
continue to suffer from the lack of civilian aid. The world has been prone to the
intolerable acts of social injustice; a cause we could not abscond. There are
questions of how one can tackle these actions and affairs to solve a protracted
complication. The fight to diminish social injustice is to promote social justiceand
embrace diversity. The longer we stay oblivious to the effects and damages
controlled by social injustice, we will perish from the consequences. The solutions
contain two main factors: The educational process of understanding social justice and
clarifying cultural diversity by spreading awareness of how these two entities can
help eradicate some of societal ills.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social justice comes in many configurations that are the premier sources of the world
s problems. For instance, political, educational, and fraternal organizations may be
responsible for the task of promoting social justice and embracing diversity. For one s
own delectation, one can choose movements that they strongly believe in and change
the lack of equity. Joining a movement does not stop with becoming a member. One
must actively be involved in social organizations, volunteer groups, or actively
include the government to truly reach the

interactive session was held regarding the doubts about the app. The gathering
45. Comparing Lord Of The Flies And Beowulf s Death
9/11, Sandy Hook, Orlando, Boston Marathon, Hurricane Katrina, and Iraq
/Afghanistan war; all these events revolve around death and destruction. When Time
magazine asked Americans to rank the most significant event in their lifetime those
were the events they choose. Death... the biggest impact and influence in people s life
and minds. We see deathtake place in Lordof the Flies and Beowulf. Both stories have
appalling and perplexing events that take place throughout the novel. Many of the
events that take place result in death. While these stories revolve around death, Piggy
and Simon s death, in Lord of the Flies, were much more influential to the other
characters, plot, and the overall theme than Beowulf s death.
Death can be influential to any story by the way it impacts a character. One
character in Beowulf who was affected by death was Wiglaf. Our glorious king! By
almighty God, I d rather burn myself than see Flames swirling around my lord
(Unknown 725 727) Wiglaf broke down emotionally at the sight of Beowulf s
death. This shows Wiglaf s loyalty to Beowulf, and how he truly cared about
Beowulf s well being. Just like Beowulf had Wiglaf, Simon and Piggy had Ralph
on their side. Ralph was emotionally distressed after Simon s death specifically
because of how it happened. Ralph was never able to fully let it go; that s one
reason why he breaks down in front of the soldier at the end of the novel.
After Piggy and the conch were destroyed, Ralph, with no hope left, was worried
he would be next and actually had to run away from the rest of the boys on the
island. The boys left on the island could care less about the fact that those two boys
were killed and that blood was on their hands. Those boys were even excited about
the possibility of killing Ralph. This happens to be a way more influential and
important fact to know about the characters in Lord of the Flies because they
started to enjoy death. The boys would chant and sing songs about slitting the pig s
throat as if it were a game. In contrast, Wiglaf was very distraught over the death of
his king. After Beowulf s death the soldiers set up a tower to overlook a creek and
they buried jewels in his honor. Typically, Beowulf was only treated one way

Humanities
Bring Forth the Fruits of Righteousness from Darkness The artist of whose work I
observed was Damien Hirst. He was born June 7 1965 and is an English artist,
entrepreneur and art collector. The piece of art I observed was Bring Forth the
Fruits of Righteousness from Darkness , it is a gloss covered canvas covered by
real butterfly wings and household paint. It is set up to resemble three stained
glass windows from a gothic cathedral. The piece is on display at the Cleveland
Museum of art and on loan for five years. The work of art showcases Hirst s theme
of death that is shown in many of his pieces. Damien Hirst became famous for his
artwork in preserving dead animals. His works have included cows, sheep, sharks, ...

Damien Hirst is a Conceptual artist because his work most often takes precedence
over and traditional matters or ideas. This is shown by his work with dead animals
and preserving them, which is most often frowned upon. Hirst is known to be a
contemporary artist with his work being very modern and spread throughout the
country in galleries, exhibits, and even private collections. The Cleveland
Museum of Art holds Damien Hirst s Bring Forth the Fruits of Righteousness from
Darkness on special loan for five years. It also holds many different exceptional
pieces that include Asian and Egyptian art, and its own Picasso collection. It holds
43,000 works of art from around the world. The Museum holds so much history and
offers free admission to its public to come and absorb some of world s greatest works
of art the Cleveland is lucky to have on display.
Damien Hirst is a widely known artist that is known to be one of the richest artists
to be alive today. His work moves many people for many different reasons and is
known for its controversy, beauty, and eccentric style. We are lucky to have his
work on display in the Cleveland Museum of Art. He continues to make art today
that stands out and is just as beautiful and interesting as the piece I was privileged to
47. Pigment Lab
Introduction Pigments have a rich and complex history that connects both chemistry
and art into one science. In this experiment there were four different pigments being
created: barium white, chrome yellow, synthetic malachite, and Prussian blue.
Barium white, also known as Barite, is an excellent pigment to paint with because
barium sulfate is particularly inert to UV light and so does not darken over time
(Emsley, 2014). Therefore, the pigment can survive for long periods of time without
fading. Chrome yellow was discovered in 1816 by Nicolas Louis Vauquelin (Douma,
2008). Vauquelin also found that he could make bright yellow and rich orange
versions of lead chromate, both of which he proposed as potential pigments (Douma,
2008). The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chemical reaction produced was Na2SO4(aq) + BaCl2(aq) пѓ BaSO4(s)
+2NaCl(aq) with barium sulfate being the precipitate. Similarly, when scraping off
the chrome yellow, ZnSO4(aq) + Na2CrO4(aq) пѓ ZnCrO4(s) + Na2SO4(aq), there
was less pigment than was expected. However, the copper carbonate made an
exceptional amount of pigment, both the first week and the second. The reaction to
make copper carbonate is written, CuSO4(aq) + 2NaHCO3(aq) пѓ CuCO3(s) +
Na2SO4(aq) + H2O(l) + CO2(g). Lastly, the final amount of Prussian blue,
4FeCl3(aq) + 3K4Fe(CN)6(aq) пѓ Fe4(Fe(CN)6)3(s) + 12KCl(aq), was very little;
however, the amount was enough to incorporate shadows into the painting. By using
all but the chrome yellow, a snowy landscape was painted as seen in Figure
48. Leo Steinberg Flatbed Picture Plane Analysis
In the late 1950s, Rauschenberg began to make the groundbreaking works he
dubbed Combines. These works inspired Leo Steinberg s theorization of the flatbed
picture plane. This term was posited in his essay Reflections on the State of
Criticism. The essay s first manifestation was as a lecture given at the Museum of
Modern Artin March 1968, and was subsequently published in Artforum in 1972.
Notably, it was also the title essay in Steinberg s book Other Criteria: Confrontation
with Twentieth Century Art, of 1972. Steinberg s notion of the flatbed picture plane
has several facets. This picture plane relies on the actual flatness of the paintings
surface, the horizontality of the work s construction and reception, an interaction

Unlike canvas or paper, printing stones and plates can only be worked on while they
are flat. The weight of the lithography stones, the acid bath of etchings, and the
carving of woodcuts do not allow for any other orientation. Furthermore, presses are
always kept horizontal; any other orientation would not create enough pressure to
transfer the image to paper. Rauschenberg s affinity for lithography (I am
suggesting) is foreshadowed in his Combines as well as in his early indexical works.
In fact, it can be asserted that critical concerns like the flatbed and the index better
suit his lithographs than his other
49. The Relationship Between Girl Scout And Girl Scouts And...
Today in the Scouts, boys have more opportunities than girls. This issue is causing
upheaval among equal rights advocates. Due to protests made by these advocates,
girls are now able to join the Boy Scouts, but combining them does not solve the
problem. Rather, Girl Scouts should have the same opportunities as the BoyScouts
because of the strive towards equality, scholarship opportunities, and Title IX. The
push for equality is a goal yet to be reached, due to the lack of opportunities for girls
as opposed to boys. When it comes to extracurricular activities, such as sports, jobs,
and the Scouts, girls are unrepresented (Denny 3). Research has proven that in most
activities boys outnumber girls. While the Boy Scouts take adventurous trips over the
summer, GirlScouts are stuck selling cookies in their home town in order to
fundraise their own small, summer trip. These issues should be addressed without
the need to combine the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Not only should the Girl and
Boy Scouts have equal rights, but they should also be able to partake in the same
activities. In today s society, some activities have restricted girls from participating
because they simply do not follow certain gender roles (Rothschild 1). While Boy
Scouts get to go camping and take part in fun community service, Girl Scouts stay
in a local area and sell cookies so that they will have enough money to go on a small
trip over the summer. These girls should be known for their incredible
50. Shades Of Symbols In The Great Gatsby
The 1920s was a pivotal part of American history. This decade was the decade
between the world wars and is often referred to by many as the Roaring Twenties as
it was a time for great celebration and advancement as modern mass production and
consumption was introduced and many Americans began to increase their material
wealth. While this decade brought on the lux and lavish of life, it also brought with
it many different types of people as well as objects. While reading The Great Gatsby,
a novel by F.Scott Fitzgerald, these objects are referred to as symbols and in
reading the novel, are able to provide many shades of meaning to the reader
depending on how the reader views and interprets the symbols. The ash heaps and
valley of ashes, the billboard sign of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg, and the green dock light
are some of the many symbols in the novel that can provide different shades of
meaning to the reader through the course of the novel.
Throughout the novel, the ash heaps and valley of ashes are one of the most
referenced symbols found within the Great Gatsby. These symbols in turn are also
able to provide different shades of meaning to the reader depending on how the
reader interprets the ash heaps and valley of ashes. One shade of meaning that can
be offered to the readers is that the ash heaps represent success of the factories
during the time of the 1920s. During this period of time, modern mass production as
well as consumption began to grow as economic prosperity
