Comparing Utilitarian s And Non-Consequentialist Theories Of
Non consequentialist theories of morality are based on something other than the consequences of a
person s actions. (Thiroux, 2012). A non consequentialist theory of value judges the rightness or
wrongness of an action based on properties intrinsic to the action, not on its consequences.
Consequences do not, and in fact should not, enter into judging whether actions or people are moral or
immoral. (Thiroux, 2012). Actions are to be judged solely on whether they are right and people solely
on whether they are good, based on some other standard or standards of morality. Some Egomaniac s
believe that people should act in self interest. Utilitarian s are people who think that any act s being
done should be done with self interest. Both Utilitarian s and Non consequentialist s theories are
considered goodness of an action as it serves the interest of someone. ... Show more content on

(Thiroux, 2012). Humans tend to believe that we should obey a supernatural being and
commandments relayed to us regardless of the consequences that might ensue. For a person to be
moral they must live by and follow the Ten Commandments nothing else, they must not stray for these
commandments. Some people may argue the fact that no one has been able to show any proof that a

The Birth of the Swatch
Case Analysis: The success of Switzerland Company named Swatch owned by Societe Suisse de
Microelectronique et d Horlogerie (SMH) is a perfect example of a successful brand and product
management. Their success was based on the fact that Swatch had completely excelled in each and
every step of developing and executing its outstanding marketing strategy. In early 80 s the biggest
problem for the Swiss watch industry was the rapid growth of quartz technology which changed the
rules of the game. Low cost watches created a new product and market segment. Unluckily the
Switzerland companies didn t respond to this new threat due to their arrogance. They thought that
quartz watches were unreliable, unsophisticated and beneath Swiss quality ... Show more content on

They decided to avoid the expensive jewelry stores and watch shops favored by most of competitors.
Instead the company adopted an unconventional retail approach. They preferred to keep their watches
out of the jewelry displays where other watches were sold. Instead they created non traditional mini
boutiques and freestanding mono brand Swatch stores with latest designs located in exclusive and
high fashion districts. By doing this they showed understanding of their consumer insight; they
avoided direct competition with others at the same places; finally, created their brand image separately
from the rest of competitors. Different way of distribution and branding process successfully
reinforced their differentiation. In promotion, Swatch was also very successful and did something like
no other. It spent about 30% of product retail price on advertising, more than double the industry
average. They tried to reach their target audience directly and let them be closer to the product
experience of funny, fanciful and joy of life. Swatch did these like no other creating impressive
activities and radical promotional stunts through untraditional approach, such as hanging the giant
Swatch outside the tallest skyscraper in Frankfurt on the day they launched the product in Germany,
they were also the main sponsors of the break dance competitions and they acquired the celebrity
endorsement. Swatch also utilized the Swiss watch heritage by smartly

Apush Dbq Assimilation
With the Jewish expulsion from the land of Palestine, from the Romans. Their lives depended on
endeavoring to survive in the land that they were coerced on. For some, assimilation was the only way
to survive. It was either stay ostracized or assimilate and endeavor to become something. During the
18000s an incipient conception emerged from the Jewish people in many different counties. This
conception came to what Zionism is, a way for the Jewish people to become a whole. Some Zionist
vigorously repudiated the conception of assimilation to these countries. Some verbally expressed that
assimilation is a slap to the Jewish people coerced out of the land of Palestine. While others verbally

Nordau, like Herzl, was born in Budapest and received almost same education that was German
cultural guidance. He grew up alienated the Jewish culture and assimilated into the German culture.
He did receive a deeper Jewish thought than Hess and Herzl. His father taught Hebrew by profession
and taught his son the language. Additionally, like Herzl, he received a very good education, but also
worked in publishing. He went to medical school and became a doctor while at the same time he was
writing publications in books and newspapers. Commensurable to Hess and Herzl, Nordau wrote
about the uncompromising culture of antisemitism in many European countries. He blasted them in a
book called Conventional Lies of Civilization where he explained an uncompromising analysis of the
cultural scene and a particularly violent attack upon religion. (Herzberg P. 233) Then his book was
subjected to bring banned by the catholic church and the countries of Austria, Russia, and England.
His ideas like Herzl was one of learning about nations and religions that were subjected to awful
treatments and wasn t sure where to go after receiving such daunting news. Nordau and Herzl then
betokened and verbalized about the future in which what was going to transpire? Nordau, unlike Herzl

Christian Worldview
Critical Thinking Let us ponder about how other religions worldviews relate to the Biblical
worldview. There are three main areas or types of worldviews, Pantheists (Hinduism, Buddhism),
Secularism (naturalism), and Theism (Christianity, Islam, Judaism). I will answer 5 basic questions on
just one of the non Christian worldviews and then compare it to the Biblical worldview. Part one will
be about Buddhism and part two will compare Buddhism and the Biblical worldview. The questions to
be answered are: 1. The Question of Origin. 2. The Question of Identity. 3. The Question of
Meaning/Purpose. 4. The Question of Destiny. Part One The Buddhist people are a peaceful people
with a simple worldview, but it is quite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[xi] Next we need to know, what is our meaning in life? Jesus in John 17:3 states our meaning is that
they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. [xii] Our purpose is to
know God. We should seek Him by reading His word and have a close personal relationship with
Him. Buddhism does not have a personal god. They feel we need to treat every living thing the same
way to reach Nirvana. Now let s answer the question of morality. We get our morality from God. God
is the standard by which this is based. God is the ultimate good and there is no other place that we
should seek to justify our actions. Jesus gave us the greatest commandments as stated in Matt. 22:37
38 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all you mind.
And it continues, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. If we follow these commandments, we will
have no problem distinguishing between right and wrong. The Buddhists follow the Eight Paths,
which is very close to love you neighbor as yourself (Matt. 22:38), but they look internally to the god
within them for guidance. [xiii] Finally, how does the Biblical worldview discuss destiny? This is
simple, if we accept Jesus into our hearts and follow His

How Is Blanche Misleading
Sometimes appearances can be misleading. One can set up an illusion for themselves to escape reality.
In a Streetcar Named Desired the three main characters Blanche, Stanley and Stella are perfect
examples of this theory. As all of them appear to be one way but their reality was completely different.
Blanche had to be by far the worst of the three. She tried so hard to make it appear as if she was
royalty. Living a life of riches and fun. Blanche put up a front for so long that she couldn t dictate
from what was true or what she had fabricated. When Blanche said, I received a telegram from an old
admirer of mine (page 1871 author Kelly J. Mays). She begins to fall into a pit of lies that she couldn t
get out of. From that point, she goes into made up stories of how her and Mitch ended. When Stanley
pointed out that what Blanche was saying was made up. I believe hearing it in turn was too much for
Blanche causing her to become disorientated and eventually to a mentally ill state. ... Show more

for Blanche. He created the perfect time for them to be alone and jump at the chance to have relations

appeal to people s guilty pleasures (although many wouldn t admit it, everybody loves a bit of gossip).
The trailer is composed of mainly mid shots focusing on people s faces and what they re saying, this is

Who Is The Perfect Life In The Great Gatsby
Nobody has a perfect life. Yet many people think that with great wealth they will have a perfect life.
Everyone has heard the phrase, money can t buy happiness , but still think they will lead a happy life
with the help of obtaining a lot of money. Many of the characters in The Great Gatsby, written by F.
Scott Fitzgerald seem to believe this same statement. Although these characters appear to have
wonderful lives, they are far from this reality. Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
describes the lives of several of it s characters who have great wealth, yet live helpless, lonely lives.

how lonely of a life Daisy has. Daisy wants to be loved. Her husband, Tom Buchanan, has an affair

feels so abandoned by her husband. She was willing to have an affair to feel wanted by someone else.
Even though she is not sure how she feels about her love for Gatsby, she is willing to put his heart out
on the line to give herself a sense of need. Even though Daisy reconnected with her first love, Daisy
still chooses money over happiness. Despite knowing the happiness that can come from choosing a

it may possibly lead to less happiness later down in life (Hochman 2). Even before Jay Gatsby

Essay on Michelangelo Buornarriti
Michelangelo Buonarroti was one of the greatest artists of all time. Many people all over the world
throughout history have admired his work and he is possibly the most renowned artist of all time.
Michelangelo completed many artistic pieces during his lifetime, and he did them very beautifully and
in a very inspiring way. Michelangelo Buonarroti was born on March 6, 1475 in the city of Caprese,
Italy, just outside of Florence. Michelangelo s mother died in 1481 when he was at an early age.
Because of this and the fact that his father was governor of his village, Michelangelo was sent to live
in the home of a stonecutter. His family then moved to Florence, Italy. At the age of ten, Michelangelo

In 1492, when Michelangelo was 17 years old, Lorenzo died and the school broke up. After Lorenzo s
death, Michelangelo worked mainly independently for rulers and religious leaders in Italy. His first
commission was for three marble figures for the tomb of St. Dominic in 1494. Michelangelo left
Florence and fled to Bologna before Charles VIII invaded Florence. It was here in Bologna that
Michelangelo carved an angle for the tomb. He returned to Florence for a short time in 1495 and
carved the Cupid and a St. John. On June 25 of the following year, Cardinal Riario invited
Michelangelo to Rome. It is here that Michelangelo gained recognition. In 1497, he carved the
drunken Bacchus, which is one of the two first important pieces in his career. The next year he carved
his second marble figure called The Pieta for St. Peter s Cathedral. The Pieta was a beautifully carved
and finished statue of the dead Jesus lying across Mary s lap. Many consider it the greatest work of his
early years. Michelangelo created a sculpture so complex and difficult at the age of only 24 that many
artists could never figure out how he did it. On August 16 of 1501, he was commissioned to complete
a sculpture to stand in the Piazza Della Signora. The city of Florence gave Michelangelo a huge block
of marble. It was with this that he carved the 14 foot, 3 inch David. The David was also one of his

The Infamous Collection Of Lasting Mental Effects Of Warfare
The infamous collection of lasting mental effects of warfare has been classified as a disorder known
by many names: shell shock, Soldier s Heart, and combat fatigue. Today, this disorder is classified as
post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. According to the American Psychiatric Association s
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, PTSD symptoms include
persistent nightmares, constant avoidance of trauma associated stimuli, and emotional numbing that
was not present before trauma. PTSD is unlike other mental disorders because it is linked to a specific
traumatic event, and it is often associated with combat (Institute 1). World War I was the catalyst for

Following the Vietnam War, research began to accelerate in response to the influx of suffering
veterans. The Vietnam War helped extend the study of PTSD because it led to the growing use of
media to raise public awareness, the establishment of large scale psychological studies on Vietnam
veterans, and the realization of the importance of accurate psychiatric diagnoses.
The Vietnam War profoundly affected many Vietnam soldiers after they left the homeland, and the
media had an immense influence on how these individuals were treated in America. The returning
soldiers showed all of the typical symptoms of what psychiatrists now understand as PTSD: difficulty
sleeping, an overly sensitive reaction to stimuli, and flashbacks. For instance, Sonny Hartwell, a
Vietnam veteran with PTSD, recounted the constant uncertainty he experienced during the war, War is
a strange thing. You spend so much time with nothing to do and the boredoms of every day existence
[sic] in a camp like setting and then all hell breaks loose. That might last for just a few seconds, but
the terror and trauma that you go through in just that minute to few seconds can be mind boggling
(Stein 12). Hartwell s story was one of many, and yet, early editions of the DSM had very little
information on war neurosis during the 1960s (Stein 11). Veterans were often considered delusional

computational biologist. The last author may not actively involve in the research, but has contributed
in more fundamental and important areas, without which the experiment might remain invalid and
thus unpublished. What do the computational biologists do? What important thing(s) they added to

The least and most simple thing that the computational biologists do is biostatistics. A validity of
biological experiment is determined by statistical data. Computational biologists taken biology into

This computer technology is useless without data from the physical world.
Today, computational biology has thrived forward to a new level where biologists do experiments
totally in the virtual world and take them into account and make them usable for further study or for
drawing a conclusion about a subject. For example, in real world, biologists, or more precisely
evolutionary biologists, can t predict evolution and are unable to go back to the time or to repeat the
same path that has led to today s world. Through computer simulation or program, biologists can have
a look through the evolutionary pathway that had been followed long time ago and made today s
world.
One of the theory of adaptation is exaptation. Survival of the fittest determined the adaptation and thus
evolution of new species. Some evolutionary innovations may originate non adaptively as exaptation,
or pre adaptations, which are by product of other adaptive traits (Barve and Wagner, 2013). It has been
known that birds got their feathers for flight from dinosaurs, and some proteins change into lens
because of their ability to refract light. In a nutshell, exaptation is the result of adaptation from traits
that were evolved for something different at first, which later causes innovative changes and give
adaptation for a different trait.
Barve and Wagener used novel computational methods in their research. They randomly sample
different metabolic pathways that can sustain life in any given carbon

School Safety And The Environment
As the climate in schools continues to change, parents and educators are concerned with school safety
and the environment. The role of the school counselor is to help students develop positive social skills
and to ensure students have access to academic and social activities regardless of their age, gender,
sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status and religion. Schools in American are made up of
children of color and many of them face inequality because of old institutional practices that don t
meet the needs of all students. Minority students, low income students and students who speak a
language other than English, tend to be assigned to teachers who lack the experience and skills to
educate multicultural students ( (Peske, 2006). Schools that fail to recognize multicultural education,

Extraordinary Meaning In The Mercy By Orhan Pamuk
Ordinary Objects, Extraordinary meaning
Man s sentimental attachment to object is one of life s greatest consolations. by Orhan Pamuk explains
how objects with emotional meanings can often provide comfort to an individual during difficult
times. This ties in with the poem The Mercy by Philip Levine in multiple ways, in which the most
significant one would be how an orange became such a symbolic item to the author s mother through a
series of events. There s always some things that we would never give away, and perhaps the worth
would only increase with time. An ordinary object can have influential and precious meanings that
worth much over its monetary value depending on the individual and the memories generated from
this tangible possession.
The Mercy has shown a lot of morals and insights towards life that I deeply agree in accordance with
Philip Levine. Starting with the poem s title The Mercy , it has given me wonders about what mercy as
a noun could possibly mean. Thankfulness? Benevolence? However, when the orange was introduced,
my doubts were answered immediately due to the fact that ...a young Scot... taught her the word...
patiently over and over again . Being patient enough to teach someone such an easy word
demonstrates kindness in both accepting foreigners who hasn t encountered such things and showing
lenience. The orange embodies the Scot s mercy and metaphorically, a symbol of comfort during the
girl s uneasy trip to the US. But it only had its meanings beyond just a citrus fruit from the fact that
she chose to accept it and taste the sweet juice. Or the compassion of human nature. During her long
autumn voyage she has experienced tragic events including a smallpox outbreak, but how she
managed to survive could have been almost impossible without the psychological support that she has
received from the young Scot earlier, through a physical orange. Her unforgettable experience on The
Mercy impacted her maturity and would continue to influence her worldviews. Through this
bittersweet journey, she was taught with having hope and enjoying and cherishing the little things.
Like an orange.

Questions on Economics, the Recession, and the Federal...
Part 8 A recession is typically defined as at least two consecutive quarters of economic decline in
GDP. When this happens, unemployment tends to rise, personal income may drop, and the price of
goods and services become volatile. Most agree that it is impossible to eliminate recession in a
capitalistic economy, since it is so cyclic. Recessions may trim weak business and allow stronger ones
to survive by employing techniques that improve quality and service. Recession does not mean
depression; it simply means that there are peaks and valleys within the overall economic system. Now
that economies are more global though, these dips have a far more reaching set of consequences. In
most firms, however, recession may result in some lay offs, but it also may mean greater attention to
sustainability, cost cutting, and a more lean and strategic approach to the individual product or service
(Moffatt, 2009).
Part 9 The Federal Reserve System was created in 1913 to act as the central bank of the United States
and to oversee the nation s monetary policy, regulate banking, and make financial systems stable.
Over the past two years, though, the Fed has faced serious challenges as it responded to severe
recessionary times. The TARP program was a new tool to provide capital to banks, as well as new
programs to stabilize money market mutual funds and short term paper markets. TARP and TALF

Gram Staining Essay
A gram stain is a simple way to begin differentiating an unknown bacterial sample. Bacteria may
either be gram negative or gram positive. Staining makes bacteria cells visible, and this particular
staining method allows us to narrow down whether the bacteria in gram negative or gram positive.
Gram negative stains purple and gram positive stains pink.
Gram staining is used by students in advanced placement biology high school courses and in college
microbiology courses. Gram staining is conducted in a laboratory, whether it is a research lab or a
classroom lab. Instructors and professors will have the following items on hand for you.

Once you have gathered all your materials, you may start with the procedure. Before starting with the

to turn a Bunsen burner, use a gas hose to connect the burner to the gas line. Once connected, turn the
gas line all the way on and place the fire striker close to the opening and strike it to start a flame. Then
minimize the flame by slightly closing the handle. After your source of heat is ready to go, you can

Basic Aspects Of Standards Research
Introduction
This paper will discuss various aspects of standards research. First, it will select one of the working
groups in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) or Institute of Electrical and Electronics
Engineers (IEEE), and thoroughly summarize what this group is working on. Next, this paper will
justify the need of the IEEE 802 standard used in networking. Also, it will evaluate the three standard
organizations including IEEE, ISO, and ANSI to determine the most important for communication
technology. Finally, this paper will describe the author s position on the need for a Federal regulating
body of standards such as NIST.

Specifically, the focus of this WG is on topics that manage the behavior of other working groups in the
O M area (e.g., manageability requirements). Equally important, it focuses on small, highly focused
projects that do not warrant a separate working group, or belong to ones that have already concluded
(e.g. advancement of documents on the standards track, application statements, extensions of MIB
modules). (Operations and management area working group, n.d., para 3).
IEEE 802
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) decided that there was a significant need
for a set of rules or standards for data to travel from one computer to another. Essentially, it decided to
standardize these methods for data packets transfers by implementing a set of rules and regulations
called IEEE 802 standards. Consequently, these standards help the industry by providing advantages
such as low product cost, interoperability, and easy to manage standards, divided into many parts.
Interestingly, these standard parts include everything from cabling to network standards. Of note,
these IEEE standards affect only Local Area Networks (LAN) and Metropolitan Area Networks

Political Relations Between The United States And Politics
Throughout the quarter we have seen how different institutions in our society work and how those
institutions affect our everyday life. I was lucky enough to grow up near the Mexico USA border. I
would regularly cross it to go and visit my family and now have the privilege to call Tijuana my
hometown (my parents live there). Because of this I was able to experience and thus be affected by
institutions in two different countries. In this essay I will talk about the political institution in both
countries. I will start by explaining politics in the United States and lead into how politics in Mexico
function. Afterwards, I will compare both political institutions and draw from my own experiences to
explain any differences between the two. The United States political system functions under a system
of checks and balances. Our government is divided up into three branches: judiciary, legislative, and
executive. A system of checks and balances functions in such a way so that no one branch has more
power than the other two. If Congress (the legislative branch) passes a bill, it has to go through the
President (head of the executive branch) who may or may not veto it. Once it goes through the
President, the Supreme Court (the judiciary branch) has to rule whether or not the bill is constitutional.
This system allows so that there is no abuse of power in the government. For a political institution to
function properly there needs to be general logic underlying it. Drawing on the

The Concept Of Employee Empowerment Essay
1.0 Literature Review
The concept of employee empowerment has been discussed a lot in many academic studies and in the
field of management profession for over decades. In fact, some organizations consider the idea of
empowerment as the optimum strategy in order to have the competitive benefits in the world of
professional business practices (Ghosh, 2013).
Researchers have proven that employee empowerment, which can be called the voice of employees
and participation, has a significant impact on individuals and groups on particular as well as on
organizational efficiency in general (Conger and Kanungo, 1988). In addition, there are many
practices of leadership, such as delegation, developmental leadership, and empowering leadership,
suggest that the high management of the organization share the authority in order to promote the
advantages of enforcing employee empowerment that can raise the level of employees productivity
and positivity in the work environment (Chen, Zhang, and Wang, 2014). According to ( ), the level of
empowerment and the level of participation are vital components of the successful processes in any
professional environment.
However, it is essential to introduce the concept behind employee empowerment idea as well as to
identify the detailed meaning of employee empowerment before we dive deeper in the main purpose

An Analysis Of Coca Cola And Pepsi
1. Introduction
Companies use plenty of various strategies in order to capture more customers compared to the
competitors. The use of different pricing strategies are nowadays the most common ones in order to
get an advantage over the competitors (Rao, Bergen, Davis, 2000). Setting a certain pricing strategy
may lead to a competitor s reaction such as price cuts, different advertisement or even a completely
new innovation. Consequently, price cuts can potentially cause a price war between companies, which
will be elaborated on in the following.

Coca Cola was launched in 1886 by an Atlanta chemist (StreetAuthority, 2014), whereas Pepsi was
created six years later in 1893. Pepsi was considered as the biggest threat of Coca Cola as it was a
direct competitor. Although Pepsi had higher market shares in a few markets, for instance the Indian
market, Coca Cola s overall market share was always the highest compared to all competitors (Mutegi,

Hence, considering Pepsi lowering its prices and selling its 350ml drinks at the same price as Coca
Cola does for its 300ml bottles. This price cut results in a price war as Pepsi now has a competitive
advantage over Coca Cola, even though Coca Cola used to be the dominant player in this market. The
customers tend to buy the drink with the better price performance ratio, which is now Pepsi. As a
consequence, this increases pressure on Coca Cola as the customers that initially would have bought

Being Blind Vs. Being Blind In Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Being Blind vs Being Blind
A person who is medically blind can still see, and a person with 20/20 vision can be just as blind or
even more than a person who is medically blind. In Raymond Carver s short story Cathedral the
narrator is waiting for his wife s old friend to arrive. However, he is not very thrilled with him visiting
because this man, Robert, is blind. The narrator is very ignorant in what he knows about blind people,
and of the comments he makes about Robert or blind people in general. The narrator is ignorant
because simply put, he does not know or have any understanding of blind people. (add something
about Robert being able to see more) In the beginning of Cathedral, the narrator states things that
make it obvious that he knows nothing about blind people. From the beginning of the story, he is put
off by the arrival of Robert. In the first paragraph of the story, the narrator says, I wasn t enthusiastic
about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Cite book). He was bothered
merely by this man having a physical disability of not being able to see. One could even go as far to
say that the narrator was discriminating against Robert, in this case, that would be called Ableism.
Ableism has been defined to include overt discrimination against people with disabilities, the notion
that people with disabilities are inferior to non disabled people, and the idea that a person s disability
is a defining character flaw (Neely Barnes). The narrator makes assumptions about Robert and his life.
He thinks that because Robert is blind he cannot live a life as say he himself can. After explaining that
Robert s wife had passed and he had to bury her, the narrator goes on to explain how awful it must
have been to marry a blind man and at the end of the story he says, Pathetic (Cite book). He called
Roberts s life and relationship with his wife Beulah, pathetic all because he was blind.
The narrator of Cathedral had many misconceptions about the blind. Mainly because he didn t know
anything about them. For example, he said, My idea of blindness came from the movies...A blind man
in my house was not something I looked forward to (Cite book). If everyone based all

Blaise Pascal Fideism
In questioning the existence of God, the ideology of fideism is used to in support the existence of God
with the use of faith. Opposed to other various views, fideism relies on the use of faith and/or
revelation rather than depending single handedly on reason alone. Blaise Pascal is a French
philosopher that approaches the doctrine and beliefs of fideism using his wager argument to confirm
the concept that there is a monotheistic God in existence (269).
Pascal s ideology revolves around the wins and loses of betting. He states that if we do believe in a
God than our chances at happiness are achievable. He adds on saying, under the circumstance that we
do believe in a God, but He does not exist, then there is no much to lose in the end. Although, if we do
not believe that a god exists then they is all the much more to lose and happiness is not achievable.
This essentially means that believing in a God is better than not believing in God at all.
Going into further detail, Pascal begins his argument by explaining that If there is a God, he is
infinitely beyond our comprehension, since having neither parts nor limits, he bears no relation to
ourselves (323). This brings up the question of whether or not humans are able to decide if God is real.
He states that we are stuck between two decisions, two choices, or two infinities. These decisions of
infinities being God existing or God not existing. Pascal mentions that reason alone cannot help us
gravitate towards one decision

The Conversion Therapy Is A Suitable And Ethical Practice
In light of the 2016 election, there have been some question as to weather or not conversion therapy is
a suitable and ethical practice. Conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy or ex gay
therapy, is used to try and change a persons sexual orientation and/or a persons gender identity. United
states President Donald J. Trump has not yet said anything about his views on the matter, however,
Vice President elect Mike Pence has advocated diverting taxpayer dollars to so called conversion

Benefits Of Sociological Imagination
Sociological Imagination is defined as enables its possessor to understand the larger historical scene in

framework of experiences and also plays a role in self consciousness. We are going to go over the
benefits of sociological imagination, understand how it plays a huge concept in the world we live in,
and finally the relation sociological imagination play in suicide and eating disorders. Benefits of
sociological imagination are that Mills theory does provide us with a better understanding of how
people do communicate. There is a quote that says, we all go through the same experiences but we

Durkheim went into detail about three suicide types: anomic, altruistic, and egotistic. Anomic suicide
makes individuals feel lost or alone in society. For example teen suicide, the teen cannot relate to

For example political or social pressure makes and individual feel disconnected with society or
themselves. Egotistic suicide is a total detachment from society. He argues that suicide is a social
factor. The social factors he argues are social surroundings and whether the individual is integrated in
social structure. He does state as well does Mills that men have a higher rate of suicide than woman
do. Mills believed that men were unable to make the connection between social and individual life.

Racial Differences Of Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
Racial Differences In Maycomb
Since the 1950 s America has gone through many fights, wars, and differences against the world and
itself; such as the Civil Rights Movement. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, both Jem
and Scout notice the treatment and behavior differences of the black people to the white people and
vice versa.
From the moment Jem and Scout step towards First Purchase M.E. Church they are openly stared and
talked about. When they saw Jem and me with Calpurnia, the men stepped back and took off their
hats; the woman crossed their arms at their waists, weekday gestures of respectful attention. (156) To
Jem and Scout this behavior is normal and they do not consider it to be insulting or wrong because
they have grown up with this happening. When Jem and Scout visit the Negro church they start to
notice many things that are done differently. Among the first things Scout notices is the building,
which from how Scout describes First Purchase, the black s church, is quite different than Jem and
Scout s church.
First Purchase was unceiled and unpainted within. Along its walls unlighted kerosene lamps hung on
brass brackets; pine benches served as pews. Behind the rough oak pulpit a faded pink silk banner
proclaimed God Is Love, the church s only decoration except a rotogravure print of Hunt s The Light

is obvious. China has reformed its economy from Planned to a market Economy in which the
government launched open door policy in 1978. From the economic reform, China improve its

In recent years, there are many demonstrations in China. They voice their complaints causing the
social instability. The Chinese government is not willing to see this incidents again. The best way to
maintain the stability is to concern and try to solve their problems. They will realize the crux of the
problem, then they will speed up the reform of the NGOs like give autonomy to them.
Thirdly, we should remember China still is a developing country. There are many restrictions and
considerations when forming NGO and implement works. Some laws hinder the development of
NGOs like the funding. However, in the long run, I think it is not a problem. As China is still finding a
way to develop its country. They will amend its law for the interest of the nation. The most serious
problem is the politics. Political pressure weaken the function of NGOs. I think it is hard to change the
mindset of China government, but if the law amendments are well developed, the NGOs development

Luther Reflection
In the Freedom of Christians Luther states: The Word of God cannot be received and cherished by any
works whatever but only by faith (page 10 line 16). The term works, according to Luther is any type
of action a person performs in their life. The type of action can be a spectrum from being a robber to
being a volunteer for helping the poor. The work a person performs in their life, will not determine
whether they will be saved or not. The only way a person receives faith is through their internal or the
spiritual self. Even though, a person has done numerous inferior actions, in the past they still have a
chance of being saved by Faith. Furthermore, Luther clarifies that a person who is saved internally by
faith, should make an effort to better their outer self by giving back and helping others by means of
volunteering or community service. According to Luther, a Christian has the spiritual part and the
bodily part. The spiritual part can also be called the inner or new man and the bodily part can also be
called the carnal or old man. Apostle Paul, in the Bible, explains the reason behind the two different
aspects to the Christian life: Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is renewed
every day (Apostal Gal [:17]. Looking closely at the human life, what Apostle Paul says makes sense
about how a person would age day by day, but the person would also, at the same time, learn
something new every day. In both of these aspects, Luther shows that each

Slavery in the South Essay
Slavery in the South
A large majority of whites in the South supported slavery even though fewer of a quarter of them
owned slaves because they felt that it was a necessary evil and that it was an important Southern
institution. In 1800 the population of the United States included 893,602 slaves, of which only 36,505
were in the northern states. Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New
York, and New Jersey provided for the emancipation of their slaves before 1804, most of them by
gradual measures. The 3,953,760 slaves at the census of 1860 were in the southern states. Eminent
statesmen from the earliest period of the national existence, such as Thomas Jefferson and George
Washington regarded slavery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If at one time slavery had been common in much of the Americas, by the middle of the 19th century it
remained only in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the southern United States. In an era that celebrated
liberty and equality, the slaveholding Southern states appeared backward and repressive. This drew
most Northerner s into the abolitionist movement not so much for the behalf of slaves, but how
slavery made the United States look. Despite this, the slave economy grew rapidly, enriched by the
spectacular increase in cotton cultivation to meet the growing demand of Northern and European
textile manufacturers. Southern economic growth, however, was based largely on cultivating more
land. The South did not undergo the industrial revolution that was beginning to transform the North;
the South remained almost entirely rural. In 1860 there were only five Southern cities with more than
50,000 inhabitants (only one of which, New Orleans, was in the Deep South); less than 10 percent of
Southerners lived in towns of at least 2500 people, compared to more than 25 percent of Northerners.
The South also increasingly lagged in other indications of modernization, from railroad construction
to literacy and public education. For these reasons, many Southerners felt that slavery was all too
necessary because their agrarian economy was based around it. Many feared that the abolition of
slavery would result in a Southern economic collapse. The biggest gap between North and

The Chang Aa Brew
DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 111T) GROUP PROJECT: CHANG AA THE
DEADLY KILLER. PRESENTED BY: ANGELA OMONDI KEVIN CHAVERA CHANG AA: THE
DEADLY KILLER. 1. Introduction Chang aa is a popular alcoholic drink commonly found in Kenya
and it was once illegal, but was recently legalized. According to online encyclopedia Wikipedia, the
literal meaning of chang aa is kill me quick. It is a clear liquor which announces itself with a fierce
burn and an after taste of soil when consumed. Chang aa is distilled from grains like maize and
sorghum. Other additives that are usually added to the drink during its preparation to make it have a
more lasting effect on the drinker are the ones which make it lethal. This paper will discuss ... Show

The Economist also reports that when the police recently carried out raids on chang aa dens in
Nairobi, decomposing rats and women s underwear were found in servings of chang aa. The writer
adds that the price and the potency of the drink are more tempting than the heavily taxed bottles of
beer that are the staple of richer Kenyans. The effects of chang aa are varied. They include blindness,
psychological effects, loss of control, rampant spread of HIV/AIDS, poverty, and in extreme cases,
death. Methanol in the drink is believed to be the one that causes blindness. Ten milliliters of methanol
can burn the optic nerve and the higher the dose, the more fatal the effects. Because of excessive
drinking of chang aa, the drinkers often lose control of themselves and engage in sexual relations
without protection, thus facilitating the spread of HIV/AIDS. Chang aa drinking also contributes to
poverty because the drinkers do not look after their families and the little money they get, they spend
on the drink. Joy Wanja reports that the women in Murang a are deeply saddened by the harm that
cheap liquors has caused to their sons and husbands. Money earned by the young men hardly reaches
home because they spend their wages on alcohol, leaving their children and wives in hunger and
desperation. Some high octane

Short Essay Questions on Six Literary Works
PART ONE SHORT ESSAYS Question 1 Janet Mock is a famous transsexual woman who
experienced her rebirth of a woman. As she grows up, she faced many difficulties which made her to
struggle a lot. Many students bullied her and even the teachers criticized her because she was acting
like a girl, just because she was a boy. However, she did not give up and did not afraid to express
herself as the way she is. She was able to stay strong after the turning point of her life, meeting her
friend, Wendi. Janet s relationship with Wendi changed Janet intensely and became very valuable as
she was becoming sure of what she undoubtedly craves. Wendi, just like Janet, she was born as a boy,
but she hoped for a change of her gender to a girl. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Should Seventeen Year Olds Be Allowed To Vote
People might suggest that let sixteen and seventeen years olds citizens should vote just so that the
teens can go in the habit of voting at an early age and of to show them how the voting system actually
works. Teenagers don t even have the responsibility to clean up for themselves and are being peer
pressured by their so called friends to do something dangerous. That doesn t sound like people that
can handle the idea of being able to change the world for the best or the worst with their vote. If even
the eighteens years olds that are legal to vote don t even vote so,what makes you think that by
lowering the voting age is going to make such a big impacted on whatever is that they are voting on.
So I believe that sixteen and seventeen year olds shouldn t be allowed to vote for anything. ... Show

There was a sixteen year old boy that was from Takoma City named Ben Miller that participated in
voting. Which then made Montgomery County Community the nations to lower the voting age to 16
and 17 which in my opinion was a wrong choice. About 350 and Miller were granted to vote which
was an exciting day for those teens to hear that they are going to be able to vote and to see how it feels
to have the sanity of the world in their hands (Shin). People think that by lowering the voting age that
they would have seen a bit more of a higher number of people that registered to vote. City Clerk Jessie
Carpenter estimates that about 90 sixteen and seventeen year olds have registered to vote (Shin). This
is explaining that out of those 300+ only and not even half didn t registered to vote. Even if other
nations would lower the voting age they would not a difference of how many actually registered to

The Disadvantages And Disadvantages Of Work To Live Life
Ever since the evolution of mankind the constant civilizational development is remarkably very
astounding indeed. The primitive man wandered from place to place in search of a better living. This
nomadic trend had evolved till today where man still instinctively pursue his way of life to improve
his socio economic lifestyle. Thus is the pursuits of finding a best solution against the traditional trend
of work to survive lifestyle. Today the development of modern technology have dramatically changed
the scenario of working life, communication and personal interactions. Thanks to the development of

It takes a lot of dedication, self control and discipline to motivate yourself to persevere in working at
home alone over the long run without succumbing to the distractions and losing drive and momentum.
Often a partial arrangement where you report into the office once or twice a week is the optimal
arrangement as it allows for close interaction with colleagues and supervisors and ensures you remain
in touch with company developments while still permitting you the comfort and convenience of
working from home. To conclude, there are several benefits to working from home. Many employers
have already realized this and started encouraging their workers to work from home. In the future, we
will certainly have more organizations taking this route. There are both positives and negatives of
working this way. Although it provides freedom and reduced stress levels, it often reduces
productivity. Those who love interacting with individuals must go for the regular office hour work,
while those with some personal boundations must enjoy work from

The Libertarian Argument Analysis
In the United States institutionalized prohibition based cannabis policies defy widely accepted societal
values, delegitimizing the state s authority of law, neglecting its responsibility to respect individual
free will and ultimately, the right of self determination. These unjustified policies take a heavy
financial and social toll on society, forcing law enforcement to spend time and money to arrest a
majority of non violent, low level offenders. In addition, marijuana policies and enforcement have
been seen as inherently biased and discriminatory. Not only that, but the medical applications of
cannabis are increasingly becoming recognized and accepted as a standard in terms of treating
diseases and relieving physical or mental ailments. Furthermore, statistics have shown that
legalization leads to a decreased use of marijuana among teens and minors. Dollar wise, cannabis ...

Political activist and Libertarian representative J. Wilson comments on this saying We believe that
people own their own bodies and what they choose to put in them. That also means people own the
products of their labor (The Libertarian Argument for Legalizing Marijuana 2015). Accordingly, this
accounts for why the state should have no say to arbitrarily decide what people can and can t consume.
Prohibition must be measured against the deprivation of personal freedom. Likewise, the United States
has an obligation to the people to respect the right of self determination and individual free will. In
this case, self ownership prevails over government regulation in regards to prohibition based cannabis
policies. Hence, reform is necessary so the fundamental of self ownership isn t denied to individuals.
The principles of human freedom should be respected by the federal

The Myth Of White People
The notion of white people has made a lasting impression in history both by their greatest
achievements but also their long history with slavery. So much so, that many believe that there is
everything to know about white people and giving them more attention than needed be was
ethnocentric. In reality the idea and history of white people is very much unexplored. For a race that
predominately have made breakthroughs in the sciences, it is relatively unknown of their past.
Understanding the origins of this race would help immensely into why white people came to the
understanding and acceptance that they were the superior race. Before whiteness was made into a
racial category there was no such race or society named as white. ... Show more content on

Winckelmann s fascination with Greek beauty created a new white aesthetic to what in modern times
call white people. Greek statues of the gods were carved in marble and people saw this whiteness as a
beauty ideal of the Greeks for which they hold great respect towards them for their intellect. Race was
shaping into a physical appearance. Racial identity Caucasian was deep seated in the book of Johann
Friedrich Blumenbach, On the Natural Variety of Mankind, he saw it necessary to rank skin color
hierarchically. At the top was the white people who he named Caucasian. A Caucasian had rosy
cheeks, white skin and other features were listed. He was a scientist, so the concept of beauty was
certified a racial trait and being Caucasian was the beauty ideal, this idea has adhered to this term
throughout all these years. Being Caucasian was a name that Blumenbach attached whiteness to,
mysteriously enough they were not originally Caucasian. Caucasian was the name for people who
lived in Caucasus, ergo it is odd that these Europeans wanted to call themselves that when they were
not even from that area. The intriguing part of this whole decision to name whiteness a race is that
European scholars were so assured and self centered that their unawareness of what they have done
would be later reflected in later years. Racial hierarchy was the dominant form of classifying
individuals in societies. The odalisques represented the ideal of white

  • 3. Comparing Utilitarian s And Non-Consequentialist Theories Of Non consequentialist theories of morality are based on something other than the consequences of a person s actions. (Thiroux, 2012). A non consequentialist theory of value judges the rightness or wrongness of an action based on properties intrinsic to the action, not on its consequences. Consequences do not, and in fact should not, enter into judging whether actions or people are moral or immoral. (Thiroux, 2012). Actions are to be judged solely on whether they are right and people solely on whether they are good, based on some other standard or standards of morality. Some Egomaniac s believe that people should act in self interest. Utilitarian s are people who think that any act s being done should be done with self interest. The Birth of the Swatch Case Analysis: The success of Switzerland Company named Swatch owned by Societe Suisse de Microelectronique et d Horlogerie (SMH) is a perfect example of a successful brand and product management. Their success was based on the fact that Swatch had completely excelled in each and every step of developing and executing its outstanding marketing strategy. In early 80 s the biggest problem for the Swiss watch industry was the rapid growth of quartz technology which changed the rules of the game. They decided to avoid the expensive jewelry stores and watch shops favored by most of competitors. Instead the company adopted an unconventional retail approach. They preferred to keep their watches out of the jewelry displays where other watches were sold. Instead they created non traditional mini boutiques and freestanding mono brand Swatch stores with latest designs located in exclusive and high fashion districts. By doing this they showed understanding of their consumer insight; they avoided direct competition with others at the same places; finally, created their brand image separately from the rest of competitors. Different way of distribution and branding process successfully reinforced their differentiation. In promotion, Swatch was also very successful and did something like no other. It spent about 30% of product retail price on advertising, more than double the industry average. They tried to reach their target audience directly and let them be closer to the product experience of funny, fanciful and joy of life. Swatch did these like no other creating impressive activities and radical promotional stunts through untraditional approach, such as hanging the giant Swatch outside the tallest skyscraper in Frankfurt on the day they launched the product in Germany, they were also the main sponsors of the break dance competitions and they acquired the celebrity endorsement. [xii] Our purpose is to know God. We should seek Him by reading His word and have a close personal relationship with Him. Buddhism does not have a personal god. They feel we need to treat every living thing the same way to reach Nirvana. Now let s answer the question of morality. We get our morality from God. God is the standard by which this is based. God is the ultimate good and there is no other place that we should seek to justify our actions. Jesus gave us the greatest commandments as stated in Matt. 22:37 38 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all you mind. And it continues, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. If we follow these commandments, we will have no problem distinguishing between right and wrong. The Buddhists follow the Eight Paths, which is very close to love you neighbor as yourself (Matt. 22:38), but they look internally to the god within them for guidance. After Lorenzo s death, Michelangelo worked mainly independently for rulers and religious leaders in Italy. His first commission was for three marble figures for the tomb of St. Dominic in 1494. Michelangelo left Florence and fled to Bologna before Charles VIII invaded Florence. It was here in Bologna that Michelangelo carved an angle for the tomb. He returned to Florence for a short time in 1495 and carved the Cupid and a St. John. On June 25 of the following year, Cardinal Riario invited Michelangelo to Rome. It is here that Michelangelo gained recognition. In 1497, he carved the drunken Bacchus, which is one of the two first important pieces in his career. The next year he carved his second marble figure called The Pieta for St. Peter s Cathedral. The Pieta was a beautifully carved and finished statue of the dead Jesus lying across Mary s lap. Many consider it the greatest work of his early years. Michelangelo created a sculpture so complex and difficult at the age of only 24 that many artists could never figure out how he did it. Following the Vietnam War, research began to accelerate in response to the influx of suffering veterans. The Vietnam War helped extend the study of PTSD because it led to the growing use of media to raise public awareness, the establishment of large scale psychological studies on Vietnam veterans, and the realization of the importance of accurate psychiatric diagnoses. The Vietnam War profoundly affected many Vietnam soldiers after they left the homeland, and the media had an immense influence on how these individuals were treated in America. The returning soldiers showed all of the typical symptoms of what psychiatrists now understand as PTSD: difficulty sleeping, an overly sensitive reaction to stimuli, and flashbacks. For instance, Sonny Hartwell, a Vietnam veteran with PTSD, recounted the constant uncertainty he experienced during the war, War is a strange thing. You spend so much time with nothing to do and the boredoms of every day existence [sic] in a camp like setting and then all hell breaks loose. That might last for just a few seconds, but the terror and trauma that you go through in just that minute to few seconds can be mind boggling (Stein 12). Today, computational biology has thrived forward to a new level where biologists do experiments totally in the virtual world and take them into account and make them usable for further study or for drawing a conclusion about a subject. For example, in real world, biologists, or more precisely evolutionary biologists, can t predict evolution and are unable to go back to the time or to repeat the same path that has led to today s world. Through computer simulation or program, biologists can have a look through the evolutionary pathway that had been followed long time ago and made today s world. One of the theory of adaptation is exaptation. Survival of the fittest determined the adaptation and thus evolution of new species. Some evolutionary innovations may originate non adaptively as exaptation, or pre adaptations, which are by product of other adaptive traits (Barve and Wagner, 2013). It has been known that birds got their feathers for flight from dinosaurs, and some proteins change into lens because of their ability to refract light. In a nutshell, exaptation is the result of adaptation from traits that were evolved for something different at first, which later causes innovative changes and give adaptation for a different trait. The role of the school counselor is to help students develop positive social skills and to ensure students have access to academic and social activities regardless of their age, gender, sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status and religion. Schools in American are made up of children of color and many of them face inequality because of old institutional practices that don t meet the needs of all students. • 20. Extraordinary Meaning In The Mercy By Orhan Pamuk Ordinary Objects, Extraordinary meaning Man s sentimental attachment to object is one of life s greatest consolations. by Orhan Pamuk explains how objects with emotional meanings can often provide comfort to an individual during difficult times. This ties in with the poem The Mercy by Philip Levine in multiple ways, in which the most significant one would be how an orange became such a symbolic item to the author s mother through a series of events. There s always some things that we would never give away, and perhaps the worth would only increase with time. An ordinary object can have influential and precious meanings that worth much over its monetary value depending on the individual and the memories generated from this tangible possession. The Mercy has shown a lot of morals and insights towards life that I deeply agree in accordance with Philip Levine. Starting with the poem s title The Mercy , it has given me wonders about what mercy as a noun could possibly mean. Thankfulness? Benevolence? However, when the orange was introduced, my doubts were answered immediately due to the fact that ...a young Scot... taught her the word... patiently over and over again . Being patient enough to teach someone such an easy word demonstrates kindness in both accepting foreigners who hasn t encountered such things and showing lenience. The orange embodies the Scot s mercy and metaphorically, a symbol of comfort during the girl s uneasy trip to the US. But it only had its meanings beyond just a citrus fruit from the fact that she chose to accept it and taste the sweet juice. Or the compassion of human nature. During her long autumn voyage she has experienced tragic events including a smallpox outbreak, but how she managed to survive could have been almost impossible without the psychological support that she has received from the young Scot earlier, through a physical orange. Her unforgettable experience on The Mercy impacted her maturity and would continue to influence her worldviews. • 21. Questions on Economics, the Recession, and the Federal... Part 8 A recession is typically defined as at least two consecutive quarters of economic decline in GDP. When this happens, unemployment tends to rise, personal income may drop, and the price of goods and services become volatile. Most agree that it is impossible to eliminate recession in a capitalistic economy, since it is so cyclic. Recessions may trim weak business and allow stronger ones to survive by employing techniques that improve quality and service. Recession does not mean depression; it simply means that there are peaks and valleys within the overall economic system. Now that economies are more global though, these dips have a far more reaching set of consequences. In most firms, however, recession may result in some lay offs, but it also may mean greater attention to sustainability, cost cutting, and a more lean and strategic approach to the individual product or service (Moffatt, 2009). Part 9 The Federal Reserve System was created in 1913 to act as the central bank of the United States and to oversee the nation s monetary policy, regulate banking, and make financial systems stable. Over the past two years, though, the Fed has faced serious challenges as it responded to severe recessionary times. I was lucky enough to grow up near the Mexico USA border. I would regularly cross it to go and visit my family and now have the privilege to call Tijuana my hometown (my parents live there). Because of this I was able to experience and thus be affected by institutions in two different countries. In this essay I will talk about the political institution in both countries. I will start by explaining politics in the United States and lead into how politics in Mexico function. Afterwards, I will compare both political institutions and draw from my own experiences to explain any differences between the two. The United States political system functions under a system of checks and balances. Our government is divided up into three branches: judiciary, legislative, and executive. A system of checks and balances functions in such a way so that no one branch has more power than the other two. If Congress (the legislative branch) passes a bill, it has to go through the President (head of the executive branch) who may or may not veto it. Once it goes through the President, the Supreme Court (the judiciary branch) has to rule whether or not the bill is constitutional. This system allows so that there is no abuse of power in the government. For a political institution to function properly there needs to be general logic underlying it. Drawing on the ... Being Blind In Raymond Carver s Cathedral Being Blind vs Being Blind A person who is medically blind can still see, and a person with 20/20 vision can be just as blind or even more than a person who is medically blind. The narrator is very ignorant in what he knows about blind people, and of the comments he makes about Robert or blind people in general. The narrator is ignorant because simply put, he does not know or have any understanding of blind people. (add something about Robert being able to see more) In the beginning of Cathedral, the narrator states things that make it obvious that he knows nothing about blind people. From the beginning of the story, he is put off by the arrival of Robert. In the first paragraph of the story, the narrator says, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me (Cite book). He was bothered merely by this man having a physical disability of not being able to see. One could even go as far to say that the narrator was discriminating against Robert, in this case, that would be called Ableism. Ableism has been defined to include overt discrimination against people with disabilities, the notion that people with disabilities are inferior to non disabled people, and the idea that a person s disability is a defining character flaw (Neely Barnes). The narrator makes assumptions about Robert and his life. He thinks that because Robert is blind he cannot live a life as say he himself can. Opposed to other various views, fideism relies on the use of faith and/or revelation rather than depending single handedly on reason alone. Blaise Pascal is a French philosopher that approaches the doctrine and beliefs of fideism using his wager argument to confirm the concept that there is a monotheistic God in existence (269). Pascal s ideology revolves around the wins and loses of betting. He states that if we do believe in a God than our chances at happiness are achievable. He adds on saying, under the circumstance that we do believe in a God, but He does not exist, then there is no much to lose in the end. Although, if we do not believe that a god exists then they is all the much more to lose and happiness is not achievable. This essentially means that believing in a God is better than not believing in God at all. Going into further detail, Pascal begins his argument by explaining that If there is a God, he is infinitely beyond our comprehension, since having neither parts nor limits, he bears no relation to ourselves (323). This brings up the question of whether or not humans are able to decide if God is real. He states that we are stuck between two decisions, two choices, or two infinities. Conversion therapy, also known as reparative therapy or ex gay therapy, is used to try and change a persons sexual orientation and/or a persons gender identity. United states President Donald J. Trump has not yet said anything about his views on the matter, however, Vice President elect Mike Pence has advocated diverting taxpayer dollars to so called conversion therapy and stated, during one of the republican debates, Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus. Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior. (Chris Nichols Politifact) He also supported reparative therapy when he started to run for congress in 2000. Conversion therapy, unlike many other therapies, can be extremely harmful to a person, especially a minor s, mental health and self esteem; Therefor, conversion therapy should be illegal in all 50 states because it puts lgbtq+ youth at a greater risk of experiencing high levels of depression and suicide, is often biased to fit one set of religious beliefs and is unethical . Benefits Of Sociological Imagination Sociological Imagination is defined as enables its possessor to understand the larger historical scene in terms of its meaning for the inner life and the external career of a variety of individual in the reading by Garth Massey. This meaning that it allows the individual to take accounts for all personal framework of experiences and also plays a role in self consciousness. We are going to go over the benefits of sociological imagination, understand how it plays a huge concept in the world we live in, and finally the relation sociological imagination play in suicide and eating disorders. Benefits of sociological imagination are that Mills theory does provide us with a better understanding of how people do communicate. There is a quote that says, we all go through the same experiences but we each handle them differently. This quote I found to best explain the terms of Mills theory. Anomic suicide makes individuals feel lost or alone in society. For example teen suicide, the teen cannot relate to another individual. Altruistic suicide is based on excessive regulations of individuals by social force. For example political or social pressure makes and individual feel disconnected with society or themselves. Egotistic suicide is a total detachment from society. He argues that suicide is a social factor. The social factors he argues are social surroundings and whether the individual is integrated in social structure. He does state as well does Mills that men have a higher rate of suicide than woman do. Mills believed that men were unable to make the connection between social and individual life. Racial Differences Of Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee Racial Differences In Maycomb Since the 1950 s America has gone through many fights, wars, and differences against the world and itself; such as the Civil Rights Movement. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, both Jem and Scout notice the treatment and behavior differences of the black people to the white people and vice versa. From the moment Jem and Scout step towards First Purchase M.E. Church they are openly stared and talked about. When they saw Jem and me with Calpurnia, the men stepped back and took off their hats; the woman crossed their arms at their waists, weekday gestures of respectful attention. (156) To Jem and Scout this behavior is normal and they do not consider it to be insulting or wrong because they have grown up with this happening. When Jem and Scout visit the Negro church they start to notice many things that are done differently. Among the first things Scout notices is the building, which from how Scout describes First Purchase, the black s church, is quite different than Jem and Scout s church. First Purchase was unceiled and unpainted within. Along its walls unlighted kerosene lamps hung on brass brackets; pine benches served as pews. Behind the rough oak pulpit a faded pink silk banner proclaimed God Is Love, the church s only decoration except a rotogravure print of Hunt s The Light of the World. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ngo In China Past three decades of NGOs in China Non governmental organization (NGO) is not an organization of government or a conventional for profit business. In China, NGOs are silently different from the definition of general NGOs in which some of them have closer link with the government. There are two types of NGOs in China officially organized NGOs and popular NGOs . The former are initiated by the government and the other one are initiated by private citizens and receive no government subsidies. However, we are focusing on the development of NGOs in China, so we are not going to discuss the differences. • 41. Luther Reflection In the Freedom of Christians Luther states: The Word of God cannot be received and cherished by any works whatever but only by faith (page 10 line 16). The term works, according to Luther is any type of action a person performs in their life. The type of action can be a spectrum from being a robber to being a volunteer for helping the poor. The work a person performs in their life, will not determine whether they will be saved or not. The only way a person receives faith is through their internal or the spiritual self. Even though, a person has done numerous inferior actions, in the past they still have a chance of being saved by Faith. Furthermore, Luther clarifies that a person who is saved internally by faith, should make an effort to better their outer self by giving back and helping others by means of volunteering or community service. According to Luther, a Christian has the spiritual part and the bodily part. The spiritual part can also be called the inner or new man and the bodily part can also be called the carnal or old man. Apostle Paul, in the Bible, explains the reason behind the two different aspects to the Christian life: Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is renewed every day (Apostal Gal [:17]. Looking closely at the human life, what Apostle Paul says makes sense about how a person would age day by day, but the person would also, at the same time, learn something new every day. Slavery in the South Essay Slavery in the South A large majority of whites in the South supported slavery even though fewer of a quarter of them owned slaves because they felt that it was a necessary evil and that it was an important Southern institution. In 1800 the population of the United States included 893,602 slaves, of which only 36,505 were in the northern states. Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey provided for the emancipation of their slaves before 1804, most of them by gradual measures. The 3,953,760 slaves at the census of 1860 were in the southern states. If at one time slavery had been common in much of the Americas, by the middle of the 19th century it remained only in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the southern United States. In an era that celebrated liberty and equality, the slaveholding Southern states appeared backward and repressive. This drew most Northerner s into the abolitionist movement not so much for the behalf of slaves, but how slavery made the United States look. Despite this, the slave economy grew rapidly, enriched by the spectacular increase in cotton cultivation to meet the growing demand of Northern and European textile manufacturers. Southern economic growth, however, was based largely on cultivating more land. The South did not undergo the industrial revolution that was beginning to transform the North; the South remained almost entirely rural. In 1860 there were only five Southern cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants (only one of which, New Orleans, was in the Deep South); less than 10 percent of Southerners lived in towns of at least 2500 people, compared to more than 25 percent of Northerners. The South also increasingly lagged in other indications of modernization, from railroad construction to literacy and public education. For these reasons, many Southerners felt that slavery was all too necessary because their agrarian economy was based around it. Many feared that the abolition of slavery would result in a Southern economic collapse. The biggest gap between North and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They include blindness, psychological effects, loss of control, rampant spread of HIV/AIDS, poverty, and in extreme cases, death. Methanol in the drink is believed to be the one that causes blindness. Ten milliliters of methanol can burn the optic nerve and the higher the dose, the more fatal the effects. Because of excessive drinking of chang aa, the drinkers often lose control of themselves and engage in sexual relations without protection, thus facilitating the spread of HIV/AIDS. Chang aa drinking also contributes to poverty because the drinkers do not look after their families and the little money they get, they spend on the drink. The Libertarian Argument Analysis In the United States institutionalized prohibition based cannabis policies defy widely accepted societal values, delegitimizing the state s authority of law, neglecting its responsibility to respect individual free will and ultimately, the right of self determination. These unjustified policies take a heavy financial and social toll on society, forcing law enforcement to spend time and money to arrest a majority of non violent, low level offenders. In addition, marijuana policies and enforcement have been seen as inherently biased and discriminatory. So much so, that many believe that there is everything to know about white people and giving them more attention than needed be was ethnocentric. In reality the idea and history of white people is very much unexplored. For a race that predominately have made breakthroughs in the sciences, it is relatively unknown of their past. Winckelmann s fascination with Greek beauty created a new white aesthetic to what in modern times call white people. Greek statues of the gods were carved in marble and people saw this whiteness as a beauty ideal of the Greeks for which they hold great respect towards them for their intellect. Race was shaping into a physical appearance. Racial identity Caucasian was deep seated in the book of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, On the Natural Variety of Mankind, he saw it necessary to rank skin color hierarchically. At the top was the white people who he named Caucasian. A Caucasian had rosy cheeks, white skin and other features were listed. He was a scientist, so the concept of beauty was certified a racial trait and being Caucasian was the beauty ideal, this idea has adhered to this term throughout all these years. Being Caucasian was a name that Blumenbach attached whiteness to, mysteriously enough they were not originally Caucasian. Caucasian was the name for people who lived in Caucasus, ergo it is odd that these Europeans wanted to call themselves that when they were not even from that area. The intriguing part of this whole decision to name whiteness a race is that European scholars were so assured and self centered that their unawareness of what they have done would be later reflected in later years.
