Essay Gender Struggles in Doubt a Parable
Gender Struggles in Doubt: a Parable In the preface to Doubt: a Parable, John Patrick Shanley
describes a significant factor to consider when reading his play: I ve set my story in 1964, when
not just me, but the whole world seemed to be going through some kind of vast puberty (Shanley
viii). During that period in time, America experienced vast growth across all areas of life from the
home, to schools, to politics. Even the Catholic Churchseemed to be embrace this time of change
with the new attitudes developed from the Second Vatican Council. The Church set out to break
from the old, rigid structures of the past and take on a more relatable and approachable presence for

Nicholas parish. She expresses respect for both her superior and the system set in place, but she
strongly considers the monsignor to be oblivious and other worldly in the extreme, even guileless
to consider a situation of the sort occurring at their school (Shanley 19, 23). Sister Aloysius is
adamant that simply following orders and reporting her suspicions to the monsignor will get
nothing accomplished. A similar situation transpired at another school, but back then she had the
support of a monsignor on whom she could count on. Sister Aloysius confides in Sister James, a
younger teacher, Here, there s no man I can go to, and men run everything. We are going to have to
stop him ourselves (Shanley 23). Knowing how the hierarchy functions and taking into
consideration Monsignor Benedict s nature, she is certain that he would just ask Father Flynn and
the matter would be settled because he would easily believe the pastor s defense. The Church
hierarchy refrains Sister Aloysius from taking the matter up to the bishop so expecting that
Monsignor Benedict will not believe her suspicions, the situation is essentially out of her hands.
Nevertheless, Sister Aloysius is convinced that Father Flynn is physically molesting the child and
devises a plan to get Father Flynn to confess to his crime. Regardless if he is innocent or guilty,
Father Flynn knows very well that the male hierarchal system protects him and he does not miss the

Symbolism In Hills Like White Elephants And Cross Country...
The decision Between Life and Death of a child is usually a difficult decision. There s usually a
disagreement between both partners whether it takes preparation and dealing with the
consequences of accepting them into their reality. To some this could be a barrier between living
life to the fullest of happiness. Both Ernest Hemingways Hills Like White Elephants and Cross
Country Snow are short stories about couples who struggles to accept their unborn child to their
reality in terms of responsibility and their future goals. In both of the stories, Jig s Partner and Nick
Adams views on pregnancyare different in terms of dealing with the situation.Hemingway s skills
are shown through both of the short stories and therefore he is considered an expert or a master of
short story of all time.

People would usually buy the statue and bring it to their house, these would be expensive and if

was going to be difficult in terms of responsibility. When her partner told her that he never seen a

that gets in the way of their relationship. Another scenery,

Russia, The Motherland, By Russia Essay
Russia, The Motherland
From its Slavic and Viking past to its famous landmarks today, Russia is a very intriguing country.
Many people consider Russia and its people to be hostile. However, that is not true. There are
many examples to prove this. Russia has a very interesting past, affectionate culture, and many
places to visit.
Russia s history and language is very fascinating. In 1500 BC, the Slavs traveled through the
Steppes into Western Russia and Poland. They settled and lived there for many centuries. In the
Ninth Century, the Viking tribe, Rus, was moving inland. They settled and based themselves in
Novgorod. Over the years, Russia developed its name from this Viking tribe. In 882, the Rus
leader, Oleg, moved from Novgorod to Kiev. Here, Oleg would negotiate a treaty with Byzantine
Empire. Into the 10th Century, the Rus still control Kiev, until Vladimir is proclaimed Prince of
All of Russia. Vladimir is the first true Russian in the history of Russia. Vladimir s son ,
Yaroslav, establishes Kiev as the capital of Russia 39 years later. Through many years of
prosperity and hard times, the first generations of real Russians begin to develop. Over these years,
Moscow begins to prosper, and become the new capital of Russia. Moscow is still the capital of
Russia. Many years later, during the intense era of World War II, the USSR (Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics) bands together with the Allies to defeat the Fascist Reich. Although, at that
time Russia was a

This is life that we only get one of and for him the physical joy of it has been lost forever. It was
a tragic and unfortunate event that led to him losing all aspects of his prior life. He was reduced
to a man... a vegetable the only thing he had true control over was his thoughts. Being an athlete
I could never imagine that one day I would lose all my abilities to conduct as a human being.
Life is nothing short of a blessing that should never be taken for granted. For Jean his ability to
even communicate with the outside world using that left eye is a blessing in disguise. It was
step for Jean to make this harsh adjustment to his new unexpected life. This man was stripped of
every luxury of life. The chances of him contracting a stroke of that severity is just as rare as

Comparing the Myth in Ovid’s Echo and Narcissus and...
Contemporary Ancient Myth in Ovid s Echo and Narcissus and Wilde s Dorian Gray
Each time a story is told, elements of the original are often changed to suit new situations and
current societies, or to offer a new perspective. Over the centuries, Ovid s tale of Echo and
Narcissus has been told many times to new audiences, and in the late nineteenth century, it took the
form of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Echo and Narcissus is the tale of a beautiful boy who fell in
love with his reflection in a pond, and spurned others who loved him because he was so fixated
upon himself. As a result of his extreme self worship and consequent inability to love another,
Narcissus perishes. Although several aspects of the original myth are ... Show more content on

Basil, the painter of Dorian s portrait, causes the innocent Dorian to realize his beauty when
shown his painting. Like Narcissus, Dorian becomes vain and self absorbed as a result of
recognizing his physical magnificence. Under the influence of Lord Henry, Dorian throws off all
moral restraint and lives a life of passionate self indulgence (Miller 384). Therefore, the lives of
both Narcissus and Dorian are shaped by the actions of their mentors.
In adapting Basil s persona from his mythological counterpart Tiresias, Wilde alters the original
character to illustrate how Basil s excessive admiration of Dorian led to the youth s eventual
demise. While Tiresias played only an indirect role in Narcissus life by foreseeing his future,
Basil actively leads Dorian to his corruption. Basil Hallward s extreme fondness for Dorian
arises from the inspiration that Dorian s beauty and purity provides in the expression of his art.
Basil says to Dorian, I quite admit that I adored you madly, extravagantly, absurdly...you became
to me the visible incarnation of that unseen ideal whose memory haunts us artists like an exquisite
dream (Wilde 126). These qualities in Dorian inspire Basil to visualize a new style of art which
fuses classical and romantic elements and harmonizes body and soul (Koll 155). Basil argues that

Importance Of College Tuition
College Tuition: Why is it so high?
After high school, people either go right into college or find a job and decide whether or not
college is the right choice for them. The choice would be a lot simpler if college tuition wasn t so
high. Nobody wants student loan debts following them for the rest of their lives. Lowering or even
making college tuition free, will encourage more people to get an education and become successful.
People shouldn t have to pay thousands of dollars, in order to try and better themselves with higher
education. The price of textbooks are ridiculous as well. Colleges need to offer free online
textbooks to their students There are many things that can be done to achieve free college tuition,
for example, unnecessary expenses college programs have to offer, such as athletic programs. Our
governments high budgeted military fund can also be cut and the money can be used for making
college tuition free or even less expensive. Many countries already provide tuition free colleges to
their students. So why is college tuition so expensive?
College tuition has been increasing its price over the years. Supposedly, the reason for higher
tuition, is inflation. According to an article on USA today, under the College section, In the past 12
months, the rate of inflation stood at 2.2%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Colleges,
however, appear to be increasing their tuition rates by nearly double the inflation rate a trend that

A Passover Seder
A Passover Seder Remembering how to pronounce Seder ( SAY dur ) correctly made me
nervous at first, but there wasn t really any cause for me to say it. There was such a whirlwind of
activity that I spent most of my time simply trying to keep up as new foods were brought to the
table or unveiled, the many steps of a long dinner ceremony were described and engaged in, and
certain religious songs or hymns were sung. A book was provided to everyone at the table, with
English on one side of the page and Hebrew on the other, that was used to go through the
ceremony one step at a time. All of the foods were unusual in sight, smell, and taste, but most
were quite delicious (with some exceptions), and everyone had pillows to lean against at the
dinner table which was akward at first but quickly became enjoyable. Everything, from each
individual food item to the pillows to the drinking of wine (or grape juice) and the order of the
entire meal carried some sort of significance, and was described during the meal according to the
small books that had been handed out. Everyone, including my key informant, was very friendly
and helpful sometimes to a humorous degree. The concern that I understood what was happening
was mixed with a joviality regarding my ignorance not that I was made fun of, but that it was
amusing to have someone entirely uninitiated in the background of the meal of the religion. There
were also times when I felt almost invisible, as parts of the tradition such as songs

The Ethical Concerns Of Psychotherapy
The Research of Psychotherapy Psychotherapy is an interactive process between two individuals or

It is equally forbidden for the professional secret to be communicated to another, including a
doctor. The same is true of other secrets. (Pope Pius XII). The holy father used confession as a
similar example of the principle: The secrets from a psychotherapy should never be revealed to
others just like that priests can never disclose the secrets from the confession room. The holly father
understood the importance of the secrets of the patients as a principle in psychotherapy. The dignity
of a human person can be protected when his or her deep secrets would not be known by others.
However, the principle might vary under different circumstances in psychotherapy.
The involvement of the third parties and their benefits are the main causes of the problem of
confidentiality. That in what kind of situation should a therapist disclose the content of the therapy
is actually hard to be determined. Whether or not leaking the secrets of the patients under certain
circumstances is ethical becomes one of biggest ethical dilemma in Psychotherapy. The typical
cases will be: If the patient is doing certain illegal activities that violates the law with no one
knowing it, should the therapist report it? Do the parents of the patient have the right to know the
progress and the content of the therapy? Should the potential victims that might be harmed by the
patients be aware of his or her situations? The ways that a therapist handles the problem might cause
very critical results.

Batman As A Hero
GOTHAM A man with a suit looking similar to a bat stands on the top of a building overlooking
the city that he has protect for the last few years. This man to all of those who live in Gotham is
known as the Batman. He has kept the streets of Gotham safe from the evil that our fair city
possesses. From the elite people of Gotham to those in the Narrows, we give thanks to our beloved
caped crusader for all his work for Gotham.
There are those who believe that Batman is a another vigilante wearing a mask. Even Commissioner
James Gordon many years ago stated these words about the caped crusader He s the hero that
Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we ll hunt him. Because he can take it.
Because he s not our hero. he s a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A Dark Knight. Our
commissioner s words never stopped the Batman in his fight against the forces of evil, nor the
hope of the people of Gotham for a better city.
You either die a hero... or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain. These words
were once state by Gotham s former district attorney Harvey Dent is commonly known now as Two
Face. Many who take these words to heart have the same question that plague the people of
Gotham. What has the Batman done for our city? What is the legacy that he is leaving us with?

Comparing Anne Frank And Krystyna Chiger
Survival is the act of staying alive. People survive through many different circumstances and
situations, difficult or not. The situations of Anne Frank and Krystyna Chiger were especially
difficult. Both Anne s and Krystyna s situations, which were similar and different, were difficult to
survive through. Firstly, Anne Frank had a difficult time surviving through certain circumstances.
Anne Frank s family and another family, the Van Daans, hid together in a tiny attic because they
were in severe danger just because they were Jewish. There were eight people cramped together,
and the situation was not very pleasant. To survive, Anne Frank had to dream and pretend she was
safe and free as well as working out her emotions by writing in a diary. Another person hiding with
Anne, Mrs. Van Daan, survived a different way. She instead voiced her concerns by arguing,
complaining, and critiquing other people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was Jewish and living in Poland. To hide from the Nazis, Krystyna s family, as well as many

similar. Both Krystyna and Anne hid for their safety. They both had hard times surviving and
they were both scared. Anne and Krystyna both imagined being free so they could bear the
reality of their situation. They both had parents and siblings to help them stay alive. However,
Anne and Krystyna s stories are both very different, too. While Anne had great living conditions,
with a kitchen and lavatory, Krystyna had to live in a dirty sewer. Once, Krystyna got a dirty pin
stuck in her foot. Anne s food was more varied when Krystyna s was the same every day, and
even got stolen by rats. However, Anne did not have as many people as Krystyna to keep her

Christian Philosophy Of Education, Evangelism, And...
According to Schultz (2003) a Kingdom focused education must be built on the following four
points: Jesus Christ, A Biblical Philosophy of Education, Evangelism, and Discipleship. The most
appropriate place for Kingdom education to start is in the family where children are taught that
only salvation in Christ can perfect a person (Schultz, 2003, p.19). Because Kingdom educationis
rooted in development of a personal relationship with Christ it exists as a present reality and not
a future physical kingdom (Schultz, 2003). The development of this relationship with Christ is
a lifelong process that starts at birth and continues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (Schultz,
2003). Parents bear the primary responsibility for this education in Christ and must be supported
by born again teachers who are also able to teach children the gospel message (Schultz, 2003,
p.31). A proper Biblical Philosophy of Education enables students to be transformed into the
image of Christ and be fully equipped to serve Christ in everyday life (Schultz, 2003, p. 39). The
ultimate goal of Kingdom education is to develop a Godcentered worldview that empowers
learners to think and act according to God s ways (Schultz, 2003, p. 49). Practicing a Christian
Philosophy of education requires that a teacher s actions are in accord with their words because
95% of the time students will reject the content and accept the conduct (Schultz, 2003, p. 53).

Persuasive Essay About Life After College
Finding Home What do you want to do after graduation? is a pretty common question that the
students in Class of 2018 seem to hear on a daily basis. Some students know exactly what their
plans are, while others have no idea. Being one who has known what my post high school plans are
for quite some time and knowing that I want to earn a Strategic Communications degree from Ohio
University, I am able to begin thinking about life after college. One of the biggest decisions a
person will need to make almost immediately after college is deciding where to start their life. I
have thought about staying in Findlay, my hometown, but have also really contemplated moving
to Cleveland or one of its surrounding suburbs. While both Findlay and Cleveland are great
places to live, finding a job and settling down in Findlay, rather than residing in the Cleveland
area, is the better option for me because of the opportunities it offers. Coming back to Findlay
after graduating from college is the most ethical choice for me because of the jobs the town has
to offer. With a Strategic Communications degree, one living in the Findlay area can get a job
working as a Recruiting Specialist at Automatic Data Processing s Recruitment Process
Outsourcing office, as an Investor Relations Manager at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, or as
the director of Visit Findlay, the cityand county s Convention and Visitors Bureau, once the position
opens up ( Communications Jobs in Findlay, OH ). Along with the

Essay On How To Grow Tomato From A Seedling
How to Grow Tomatoes from a Seedling
Growing tomatoes is a simple and rewarding task, and more people should be growing them. This
paper walks readers through the main steps for growing and maintaining patio tomatoes from a
seedling.
The first step in growing tomatoes is determining if you have the appropriate available space and
sunlight to grow them. All tomato varieties require full sunlight, which means at least six hours of
direct sun every day. If you have south facing windows or a patio or backyard that receives direct
sunlight, you should be able to grow tomatoes. Choose the location that receives the most sun.
Next, you need to find the right seedling. Growing tomatoes and other vegetables from seeds can

The containers can be used in the house, on a patio, or anywhere in the backyard, and they are
portable. Containers also tend to better regulate moisture and drain excess water. Choose a
container that is at least 10 inches in diameter and at least 1 foot deep. This will provide sufficient
room for root development.
In addition to the container, you also need the appropriate soil mixture and draining mechanisms.
For the best drainage, fill the bottom of your container with 2 or 3 inches of gravel. On top of the
gravel, fill Вѕ of the container with soil. Choose a well balanced organic soil. The three main
ingredients you will find described on soil bags are N P K that is, nitrogen, phosphorus, and
potassium. Without going into too much detail about the role of each element in plant growth, I will
tell you that an average vegetable will grow fine in a 10 5 5 mixture. This ratio, too, will be easy to
find at your local nursery.
Once you have the gravel in the bottom of the container and the soil on top, you are ready to
transplant the tomato. Pick up the tomato in the plastic container it comes in from the nursery. Turn
it upside down, and holding the stem between your fingers, pat the bottom lightly several times, and
the plant should fall into your hand. Next, you should gently break up the root ball that formed in
the nursery container with your hands. Be gentle, but be sure to

Essay on Machiavelli and the Roman Empire
Machiavelli argued, as Hegel would later, that one must look to history and the accounts of
previous nations events in order to quot;sense...that flavor that they have in themselves quot; in
common with those from the past (Discourses 6). This seems to follow the adage that those who
do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, yet for Machiavelli he seems more concerned
with actually emulating history in order to repeat success than looking out for particular things to
avoid. For this reason, he pulls examples from an eclectic range of histories in order to demonstrate
how his principles in both The Princeand the Discourses on Livy, when followed, will lead to a
successful state. In particular, he refers to the Roman Republic... Show more content on

Starting out as a principality, one prince after the other begins to quot;surpass the others in
sumptuousness and lasciviousness, quot; prompting the people to overthrow him to rid themselves
of his tyranny. An aristocracy, which Machiavelli means as a rule of the Good, then takes control,
but shortly thereafter they too succumb to the temptation of exploiting their power. Again, the
masses must usurp the rule of the few and, still remembering what events had transpired in the
past, they keep the power for themselves and establish a popular state. In spite of their good
intentions, the people soon find they can t keep a firm control on the populace ( quot;a thousand
injuries were done every day quot;) so they regress to a principality. Such a sequence of events
would likely go on ad infinitum if the transitions didn t weaken the state to such a degree that its
lasting one complete turn of the cycle is less likely than becoming quot;subject to a neighboring
state that is ordered better than it quot; (Discourse 11 13). The history of France during the
eighteenth and nineteenth centuries is exemplary of how a state, fortunate to not have been
overtaken, will cycle through different types of rule due to the eventual erosion

Hind Swaraj And Indian Western Civilization Analysis
Since the 17th century, Britain had been established on the Indian subcontinent along with the
influence of its Western economic, political, military, and educational systems. In Hind Swaraj or
Indian Home Rule, Gandhi repudiates Britain s Western civilization as essentially secular, failing to
embody morality and religion and instead indulging in materialism. In contrast, the morally superior
Indian civilization is anchored in the belief of God. Therefore, he argues that Indiamust achieve
Swarajor self rule from Britain to preserve and embrace the true India created by its ancestors.
Successful passive resistance against the British Raj, through individual swaraj or complete
control over one s own physical body and soul, will enable India to cure the disease of civilization.
Gandhi begins his critique of Western civilization by listing its symptoms, most importantly,
industrialization. The development of machinery has transformed everyday life in Europe and
has attempted to promote overall well being of the individual and society. However, Gandhi
differentiates this means of progress as strictly superficial, believing these developments only
promote bodily happiness and self indulgence. In the past, for example, men were required to
manually plow land, but this long process evolved with the invention of the steam engine so that
a single man can plow significantly more land and thereby gain the monetary rewards for the
machine s efficiency. By contrasting previous ways of life to reality, Gandhi emphasizes the
changes brought about by civilization and the newfound reliance on superfluous wealth to buy
superfluities for the means of physical comfort. Money, Gandhi argues, is England s god and
guides the pathway of Britain s goal to convert the whole world into a vast market for their
goods (37). Western civilization induces moral weakness, allowing people to give in to their
earthly desires, making bodily welfare the object of life (31). The illusion of wealth as the means
to happiness is the focal point of civilization and will ultimately lead to its own destruction.
Conclusively, Britain s persistent, yet remediable disease of Western civilization is a grossly
incompetent model for India.

Soviet Union s Presence in Eastern Europe Essay
Soviet Union s Presence in Eastern Europe
This paper will introduce the development of Soviet internationalism alongside the development of
Soviet interests in Eastern Europe. It will be argued that the Soviet interests which developed out of
the Wars became fixed alongside the ideology behind internationalism. The legacy of Stalinism
influenced the development of Soviet policy toward Eastern Europe and Soviet internationalism and
the Cold war meant that the Soviet presence in Eastern Europe would persist until Gorbachev. The
Soviets could not consider withdrawing from Eastern Europe so long as they were governed by an
ideology which viewed the world as two distinct and opposing camps.

Stalin s eyes turned toward Eastern Europe and through his dissolution of the Comintern he
sought to make unthreatening appeals to a common Slavic identity. According to D Encausse,
The may 15, 1943, decision to dissolve the Comintern which suggested a definitive retreat by the
USSR to within its own borders, in fact signified a more dynamic opening to the external world
because it was based upon a real and growing phenomenon, power (D Encausse, H, 1987, pg. 7).
Soviet intentions became clearer when the iron curtain was realised at Yalta and at Potsdam.
However, Stalin did not wish to move the Soviet Union into Europe, he wished to isolate Eastern
Europe outside of Western influence and under the control of the Soviet powers based in Moscow.
Stalin s aims in Eastern Europe epitomise Soviet aims because of the fact that his policies set the
tone for Soviet policy toward Eastern Europe and his policies were still influencing Soviet Society
when Gorbachev came to power. His alienation of Eastern Europe from the West was both

Breaking Bread Project Analysis
During this semester s service learning project, I chose to serve at a community organization
called Church On Wheels, Breaking Bread Soup Kitchen. Every night Monday through Friday
Breaking Bread opens its doors to the community and provides a meal at no cost. Their mission
statement is simple: To carry the gospel of the Lord through feeding the hungry and helping those
in need. With this Christ like love to His people, every night employees and volunteers come
together to provide a meal that does not only feed them physically but nourishes the soul of
everyone that enters the doors. Within the city of Midland, Texas you will find a diverse culture and
community. Due to the recent oil boom, many families found themselves struggling to put a meal
on the table. Breaking Bread saw the need in the community to open the doors every night to see
that no one would go hungry in our town. With a commitment to see that the poor and needy are
served with the love of Christ. On any given night you can expect to find... Show more content on

On the days that I served I worked with their head chef Mari and a small group of volunteers from
local groups. The agenda that day was cleaning and organizing the pantry and blessing closet, as
well as lending a hand in the kitchen. Every day they open their doors to volunteers at 3pm and we
work to prepare the dinner and help Mr. Robert and his wife Grandma Betty in the dining room.
Within the kitchen, duties range from food prep, clean up, and serving people that come through
the line. In the dining hall, Grandma Betty runs a tight ship. We assisted her with prepping every
table, the drink station, and assisting people as they exited the line. As dinner progressed, we
worked to walk table to table picking up trash for diners, fellowshipping, and offer refills on their
drinks. Overall, my favorite portion of service is the dining hall. It is a blessing to serve others

The Economic Power Of The Super Bowl
To connect to the economic power that generates through the Super Bowl one must understand
the historical pattern of revenue, ticket cost, and attendance the game exhibits in the week
leading up to the actual showdown. The ticket prices of the Super Bowl are the main catalyst
into understanding what every consumer is willing to spend and how much revenue the game
brings to that city. In 1967, the first Super Bowl tickets were no higher than 12 dollars and the
average price of a home was less than 25,000 dollars (Smith, 2012). In 2016, the average ticket
price was 1,325 dollars making a big ascendance from 1967 (Depietro, 2017). Therefore, this also
shows how the game has become more popular since it has come into existence and ticket prices

Native Americans And The Civil Rights Movement
With the arrival of the colonists came the vast discrimination and unacceptance of native Americans
whose land was wrongfully and aggressively taken. Native Americans were subjected to the mercy
of the Western European s deathly contagious small pox disease. More so, the Western European
colonizers began the use of slavery as a fast and cheap method of running plantations and other
intensive labor. Along with slavery, the western expansion began what would become the
discrimination of Latinos and Native Americans. These injustices would later culminate to what
would be known as the civil rights movement. A movement consisting of enlightening ideas,
inspirational public figures, and the inclusion of essential events that would carry the... Show more

Since before the restoration slave owners would force religion on their slaves, but with
independence:
African American greeted freedom with mass exodus from white churches, where they had been
required to worship when slaves. Some joined the newly established southern branches of all black
northern churches, such as the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Others formed black versions
of the major southern denominations, Baptist and Methodists. (Roark, Johnson, Cohen, et al. Pg.

During the reconstruction slaves would be forced to worship whatever religious beliefs their
owners felt appropriate. After the reconstruction, slaves were able to worship whichever religion
they wished to worship; as a result, many former slaves began to create their own churches and
ultimately separate themselves and create all black churches. Other than having new religious

Fountains in the Rain
AKIO S JOURNEY The short story of Fountains in the Rain written by Yukio Mishima is about a
young boy who is trying to break up with his girlfriend. In the story the young couple finds them
selves by a fountain, a key place of setting. Fountain shows a lot of importance in the story.
Mishima Yukio is arguably still the most famous writer modern Japan has produced (Enotes 1).
Akio, the main character, starts off the story carrying his girlfriend through the rain in a sack.
Akio is the protagonist of the story finds him self in a bit of a predicament towards the end the

Akio had no idea that it was all a fake and she did not even here him say his famous line its time

the beginning of Masako s at the start of this story is suddenly out of order (Hart 3). That shows

about the characters. The characters are important feature to the story; I mean without them you
do not have a story. First I will start out with the antagonist Masako, the bad guy in this story.
Mishima puts a lot of Alvey 5 thought into how he needs to make Masako act. Most of Mishima

description on how Masako is during the story. ... (Akio) I told you quite plainly some time ago

Hershey s Way Of Making Chocolate
Chocolate is one of the most popular products consumed in the United States and all around the
world. Hershey Chocolate Company originated in 1894, by Milton Hershey (Hershey Company,

created multiple flavors that changed the chocolate industry forever. With such mass production
and success, Hershey was able to make milk chocolate, a once luxury item for the wealthy, into
an affordable treat for all (Hershey Company, 2015). Hershey s way of making chocolate is one of

The milk is mixed with sugar into a taffy like consistency where it will then be blended with
chocolate liquor. The milk adds the sweet taste and smooth texture while the chocolate liquor

crumb where it is then ground into a fine powder to create chocolate paste. The chocolate paste
is refined in the conching machine where it brings out more of the rich chocolate flavor. The
final step to Hershey s chocolate making process is sending the chocolate to the drying rack
where it will be cooled, wrapped and distributed all around the world for consumption. For the S

There are multiple differences between all four types of Hershey s chocolates and ingredients

The Second Seminole War
The events leading up to the Second Seminole War remain some of the most perverse and
contentious proceedings to have occurred in American history. Between 1819, the ending of the
First Seminole War, and 1835, the beginning of the Second, the United States government did
everything within its power to not only remove the Natives Americans from its borders, but did so
through seditious and deceptive legislature. It was during this time that the expansion of the
power of the president and a complete disregard for foreign affairs characterized the union and
their willingness to use extralegal means to achieve their desired goals. This era remains one of the
saddest affairs in American history, and provides insight into how the executive branch was able to
attain new power during the era of Jackson.
In order to understand the significance of the events preceding the Second Seminole War, one must
first examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves,
Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to
decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the
United States government and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a
war hero throughout the nation and protected from punitive measures. The refusal of the
government to punish Jackson for the injustices led to foreign hostilities with both Britain and
Spain. The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819

Magazine Advertisements Send Unhealthy Signals to Young Women
British doctors yesterday called on the media to use female models with more realistically
proportioned bodies instead of abnormally thin women who contributed to the rise in the numbers
of people suffering from eating disorders.
A report by the British Medical Association claimed that the promotion of rake thin models such as
Kate Moss and Jodie Kidd was creating a distorted body image which young women tried to
imitate. It suggested that the media can trigger and perpetuate the disease.
Female models are becoming thinner at a time when women are becoming heavier, and the gap
between the ideal body shape and reality is wider than ever, said the report. There is a need for a
more realistic body shape to be shown on television and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The report points out that eating disorders are a mostly western phenomenon and that fewer Asian
and black women apparently suffer from them. It says that in young men, perceived body image is
a crucial factor in the onset of the illness .
The report adds: Advertising, in particular, may influence young people s perception of fashion and
beauty and attitudes towards food. Young women may compare themselves to extremely thin
models, working in the fashion industry or advertising products, and perceive themselves as fat in
comparison, rather than healthy and attractive.
In 1998, a survey by the Bread for Life campaign, cited by the Eating Disorders Association,
showed that 89% of women between 18 and 24 wanted more average sized models used in
magazines.
Yesterday, however, the London based Premier agency, which represents Naomi Campbell and
Claudia Schiffer, said women who bought fashion magazines featuring thin models were as much to
blame as their editors and the advertisers who used them. Agencies, advertisers and magazines were
only responding to consumer demand.
Advertisers, magazines and agencies supply the image that consumers want to see, said a
spokesman. Statistics have repeatedly shown that if you stick a beautiful skinny girl on the cover

A New Approach to Art
A NEW APPROACH I continue to get further away from the usual artists tools; easel, palette,
brushes. I prefer sticks, trowels, knives and dripping fluid paint. My feeling is new needs need
new techniques. It seems to me the modern painter cannot express this age the airplane, the atom
bomb, the radio in the old forms of the Renaissance or any other past culture. Jackson Pollock
(1950) It is apparent from the quote mentioned above that Art has undergone rapid transformation
from the 20th century. Everything had been declared a fair game. Almost anything and
everything was considered as art. 20th century art had played a pivotal role in defying
conventions. Besides this art was no longer restricted to things that looked aesthetically appealing
but was far beyond that. Artworks were no longer perceived as static objects with a singular
meaning. Artists challenged the very old definition of art by adding or rather including a lot more
to it. Art was no longer restricted to something that is visually appealing but also to something that
addressed a variety of issues. They believed in using art as a platform in representing or addressing
multiple socio political, cultural and community based issues. Also, their work expanded far
beyond the institutional confines of the gallery or museum space. Artists have now produced a
variety of works whose meaning cannot be understood otherwise because their context is very
crucial to the piece of art. Many times the collection

Lithium in the Treatment of Bipolar I Disorder
Introduction Lithium is the medication most extensively used to treat the mania and depression of
Bipolar I. However, due to the high incidence of inadequate preventive response, as well as a host of
undesirable side effects and a narrow therapeutic index, health care providers have sought other
mood stabilizing medications for either monotherapy or use with Lithium. One such medication is
Carbamazepine, used either in monotherapy or in combination with other medications. While
pharmacotherapy is classically used to treat Bipolar I Disorder, health care providers are finding
that psychosocial treatments can assist in more effective treatment of some facets of the disease,
encouraging patient collaboration, participation and education, which ultimately may enhance long
term mood stabilization, occupational and social functioning, and quality of life. Body: Lithium in

THE EFFECTS OF ALBEDO LED LIGHTING ON RETAIL SPACES
Opposite to some popular wisdom, retail stores are not dead, and they will not be replaced by
online operations. People (who use a product or service) continue to spend money at retail

online. The store s goal in this competitive (surrounding conditions) is to make the retail outlet and

A store can install a variety of LED lighting options to backlight products or to create indirect or
quiet lighting in different parts of a store. Display cases for smaller items, such as jewelry of
personal fashion can be lit with brighter LED s that draw attention to fine patterns and textures.
Since LED lights operate at low temperatures and without creating the excess heat that is just like
traditional display case lighting, the store s products that are bought and sold will not be harmed
by any excess warmth in display cases.
Many stores operate on thin (how much money is being made), which forces them to reduce
operating costs wherever possible. LED lighting for retail has the possible ability to reduce a
retail store s electrical utility costs by more than half. Modern LED lighting is so (producing a
lot with very little waste) that it can create the same or better lighting as a traditional lighting
fixture with less than half of the electrical energy input. LED bulbs also last longer than other
forms of lighting, and the store s lighting maintenance costs will be reduced. LED lighting for
retail therefore has the possible ability to increase a store s sales and to reduce overhead costs, all
of which gives directly to a store s (money made/good things received).
Stores that operate stand alone locations that are separate from large malls and other shopping
outlets can make their stores more inviting with bright exterior LED lighting. A shopper will

The US Economy 1970-1970
According to political and journalistic rhetoric, the United States rely on a market economy that
allocates financial resources. Thus, the forces of supply and demand, generally unaffected by
government intervention, are perceived as determining the quantities, qualities and prices of goods
and services produced in the domestic economy. The origins of this belief probably relapse into
two distinctive features of the US economy, the development of private ownership of capital,
combined with a relatively small business, public sector and the absence of a strong centralized
economic planning. However, this common belief is a myth long.

According to Helleiner, the subprime loans were given to people who did not have enough
financial proof i.e. they were not creditworthy and should not have been given the loan, as they
could not pay the mortgage back. This then created a ripple effect or spillover effect that spread to
the rest of the States that had financial ties with the U.S as well as those States that invested in their
mortgage financial products (Helleiner, p. 69).
Since my Bachelor degree is from Copenhagen Business School and my bachelor degree is more in
the humanities/Business communication combined with European studies i.e. the EU, I had more
looked at it from an EU perspective and not really the financial part or the global aspect of the
financial crisis.
I learned and saw that when the crisis hit Europe, the EU was really being put to a test because all
27 members were connected by the ratified treaties that they were signatory to in order to become
an EU member which also meant that the financial burden had to be divided amongst the members.
Germany being a very big State had to carry the largest burden and that has begun to put a strain on
Germany s patience (Connolly).
Therefore, I found it quite interesting to read about the financial crisis and the background of it

Unintended pregnancy is a great concern in the U.S. with half of all pregnancies are unintended and
unintended pregnancy....(is) highly concentrated among low income women (Frost, J.J., Sonfield,
A., Zolna, M.R., Finer, L.B., 2014). The goal of family planning services is to help reduce that

benefits of family planning services provided by the government are the preventative health services
that are provided, and the cost savings from the reduction of birth related costs.
Better Programs, Better Outcomes
One key way to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies is through the implementation of
comprehensive family planning programs, and increasing access to these services. The research

on how contraceptive and family planning care differed in those countries. Bongaarts (2014)

Contrast The Spanish And English Colonies From 1492 To 1700
In a time when Native Americans occupied present day America, the Age of Exploration began in

The English explorers who settled in the New World after being persecuted in England and to make

Admittedly, there was a difference in the way the Spanish and English lead to the Native
Americans downfall. The Spanish Friars forcibly convert the indigenous people with the mission
system going as far as to kidnap a Native America to convert him to Catholicism. The English
converted the natives using Praying towns which were completely optional and did not force the
Native American to work for the colonist. This difference occurred because the Spanish Friars and
the conquistadors were more focused on getting labor out of the natives while the English settlers
mainly wanted to save the indigenous people, who the English colonists thought were savage and
doomed. On the other hand, there was similarity in the way the Spanish and English forced the
Native Americans to war after attacking their religion and taking their land. The way the Spanish
used the encomienda system. This was a system set up by the Spanish king in which he lent out
land to conquistadors to make profit by using anything that was on the land including people. This
was under the condition that the conquistadors protected and converted the indigenous people on
their land. The Spanish used this to justify the need to extract labor and resources from the Native
Americans who inhabited the New World. The English used the way the Spanish treated the natives

Gladiatorial Contest In Rome Essay
Gladiatorial Contest in Rome
Rome was a warrior state. Since the state was a great fighting state in their time, the wars sort of
formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were fascinated and pleasured by
violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games.
The gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustus to pay tribute to their
warrior traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns
for public entertainment. It is very obvious that gladiatorial contest were important because of the

At the end of the last century B.C., politics became involved in the gladiatorial games, and the

The Effects Of Random Audience On Cancer
For my final project, I decided to write my paper over my findings of if people were
knowledgeable about cancer. This is a subject that is near and dear to my heart, I have had a few
family diagnosed with cancer. Most of them are now in remission and I did lose a two family
members that lost their battle. I think if more people became knowledgeable about cancer, we
maybe can find a cure in the near future. I will explain how I analyzed the knowledge of the
random audience that I selected to partake in my survey. The key terms and definitions that I will
be using are: statistics, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, range, and population standard
deviation. Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data in
order to make decisions. The mean of a data set is the sum of the data entries divided by the
number of entries. The median of a data set is the value that lies in the middle of the data when
the data set is ordered. The mode of a data set is the data entry that occurs with the greatest
frequency. Standard deviation is a quantity calculated to indicate the extent of deviation for a
group as a whole. The range of a data set is the difference between the maximum and minimum
data entries in the set. The population standard deviation of a population data set of N entries is
the square root of the population variance (Larson Farber, 2014). The collection of data part was
the most fun for me! I crated a survey or list

Reader Response to James Joyce s The Dead Essays
Reader Response to Joyce s The Dead
James Joyce s story The Dead has a tremendous impact on the
readers, especially those who are familiar with the political situation in
Ireland at the time about which the Joyce wrote the final story in
Dubliners. In exploring the meaning of James Joyce s long short story,
The Dead , there are many critical approaches to take. Each approach
gives readers a lens, a set of guidelines through which to examine and
express ideas of the meaning of The Dead. Joyce himself said that the
idea of paralysis was the intended theme of all the stories in The Dubliners
of which The Dead is the final story.
Of all critical approaches, reader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The images reflect Gabriels ego in a sense, at the same for his
marital relationship, and at the end death, which may not be physical but
spiritual. Gabriel who is tallish and stout symbolizes authority and also
wants to be perfect for all times. He has a mental block, which makes him
believe that he is more superior and different than others are. He s built
a screen around himself, which stops him from identifying himself with the
Common Man. The ...polished lenses and the bright gilt rims of the
glasses which screened his delicate and restless eyes.... (23,24). This
image perhaps tells us that the glasses are the screen that partition his
vision from the vision of others.
Joyce s intended theme of paralysis is exemplified in the
symbolization of snow. In the story, snow has a major role as it
symbolizes the political situation at the same time where everything was
cold and dead due to the political uncertainty at the time. Snow also
plays a major role as it interprets the reader to be on the alert, as
things at the end are not going to be as smooth as Gabriel had predicted.
This seen in the shift of mood when after the party had concluded, Gabriel
and his wife are heading towards the hotel and he s in a very

Law and Car Company Essay
What are the possible outcomes? Explain your answers. When looking at this case scenario
there seems to be only one possible outcome for this scenario. Jeff was underage at the time of
contract and under the law this contract was not valid. Steve the salesperson was completely
liable under the law for entering a contract with an underage minor. As a car company
representative there is protocol which must be used when entering into any contract and a major
part of protocol is to ensure that both parties are of legal age at the time of sale. Another
possibility that may be a remedy for this situation is for Car Company to take legal action against
Jeff‟s legal guardians. Under the law any minor who misrepresents themselves... Show more

Grocery Inc. received 15 cases and did not get the full 20 on time. Because of this it not only
complicated everything for Grocery INC. but they want to cancel the agreement with Cereal
Inc. because they failed to produce the right amount of shipments. Because Cereal Inc. failed to
live up to its commitment it would than mean that Grocery Inc. has a full right to reject the
shipments as well as cancel the contract because none of the terms were met. Therefore the
Grocery Inc. has a full right to reject the contract since the terms of the contract were not
completed. Under contract law, Grocery does not have the right to reject the shipment because
the original contract did not state the types of cereal or how the cereal would be divided up. The
buyer has the right to reject the delivery when the goods fail to conform to the contract (U.C.C. 2
601). In this case, the contract did not state the types of cereals or the division of the cereals. In
addition, under U.C.C. 2 613, Grocery cannot reject the delivery because Cereal was able to
provide a partial of the order and is protected because the damage to Cereal Inc s warehouse was
without fault of either party before the risk of loss passed to the buyer. Although, Grocery Inc
sent a facsimile to Cereal Inc requesting a variety of cereals and how they would like them

The Effect Of Concentration On Rate Of Reaction With...
How does changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid affect its rate of reaction with Sodium
Thiosulphate?
Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of
hydrochloric acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by
changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to
the same amount of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be
placed over a piece of paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no
longer be visible therefore the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent
variable.
Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will
increase, but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be
more of the sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures
will collide at a higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be
directly proportional. Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 (
concentration vs rate ) has a positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is
increased the time will decrease, that s why graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will
have a positive correlation as rate will be 1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs
will be directly

Persuasive Speech Against Euthanasia
Host: Good evening and welcome to The View. For tonight s issue, arguments for and against
Euthanasia being made legal in Australia will be presented to you. Taking the affirmative side I
would like to introduce to you the professor in faculties of Law and Medicine from the University
of Adelaide, Alexander Wyatt. On the negative side tonight, we have Director of the Centre for
Professional and Applied Ethics at University of South Australia, Kate Mansell. We invite
Alexander Wyatt to present his affirmative view first.
Wyatt: Imagine yourself coming to the end of your life, and finding yourself terminally ill and
in extreme, unbearable pain. If you wanted to die with dignity isn t it your right to do so? If you
were denied your right, you would feel as though your body is being trespassed. Ladies and
gentlemen, I believe physicians who are trained to have knowledge of the human body should be
free to assist people to end their lives painlessly. Suicide should be a painless passage away from the
pain, or anticipated pain, of a person s life.
Think of it this way, allowing someone to die if they wish to has no negatives and does not affect
anyone in the process. If someone feels as though it is time for them to go due to their illness, they
should not be kept alive artificially in a way that makes them feel as though it is unnatural and
uncomfortable. In fact, scarce health resources could be freed up due to someone dying. It s a win
win situation as they get what they want

Literature Review Of Job Satisfaction
THE RETAIL COMPANY In this report, the job satisfaction of the employees at Zara, an
international clothing retailer with 8 stores in Singapore and a worldwide profit of $14.4
Billion, will be evaluated. Using a literature review, determinants of job satisfaction at Zara will
be identified before a questionnaire will be designed for the full time associates working in
local Zara stores. Through this evaluation, areas of improvement can be identified to enhance the
job satisfaction and performance of Zara s employees. LITERATURE REVIEW WHAT IS JOB
SATISFACTION? 2000 studies have been published on job satisfaction since the 1950 s (Kahn,
1972). Job satisfaction refers to an employee s feelings towards their job based on the comparison
between actual versus desired outcomes (Locke, 1969). Each individual experiences various levels
of job satisfaction due to their different expectations towards their job... Show more content on

In a study conducted on the relationship between both entities, (Strauss, 1968) states that a person
with higher morale would experience an improvement in productivity. This emphasizes the
driving factor behind this report satisfied employees tend to produce better results. Therefore,
companies must first improve the satisfaction of their employees before obtaining maximum job
productivity. DETERMINANTS OF JOB SATISFACTION As Zara is a successful retailer,
determinants will be analyzed in these five areas work environment, work relationships, working
conditions, career development and incentives. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment
refers to the perception of employees that appraise whether a workplace is beneficial to their
personal being (Lazarus, 1984; James James, 1989). It can be divided into two interrelated
dimensions: Work involvement and role stress (James Sells, 1981; Billings Moos, 1982; Babin

Molarity Of Naoh Lab Report
Conclusion: This lab is finding the molarity of NaOH by the titrating with HCl. The
experimenter is dropping NaOH and when the solution s color change, swirl the solution when it
changes to transparent. By repeating this process, the experimenter finds the molarity of NaOH.
At first trial, initial volume of NaOH was 37.00mL and we used 1.00mL for the titration and the
final volume of NaOH was 38.00mL and the molarity of NaOH was 0.50M NaOH. At second
trial, initial volume was 38.38mL and we used 1.24mL for the titration and the final volume of
NaOH was 39.62mL and the molarity of NaOH was 0.40M NaOH. At last (third) trial, the initial
volume of NaOH was 39.62mL and we used 1.09mL for the titration and the final volume of
NaOH was 40.71mL. According to the volume of NaOH increased, the molarity of NaOH
decreased. Based on the experiment, the relationship between volume and molarity of NaOH is
inverse. The percent error of the first trial was 0% because actual molarity of NaOH is 0.50M
NaOH and at first trial had exact same result with actual molarity. However the percent error of
second trial and third trial was 20% and 8% each. For the second trial, the molarity of NaOH was...

When the reaction was stopped, the indicator, phenolphthalein, didn t change directly so the
experimenter could put more NaOH than expected. Also, each single time, the color of indicator
could slightly different which would affect the result of the experiment such as when the color is
different than before, the solution could be over titrating. Second on the list, there could be air
bubble in the NaOH buret which cause the misreading the volume of NaOH solution. Since the
solution was in the buret, the volume of NaOH in data could be higher than the actual amount. That
means since the higher volume of NaOH could be used, the molarity of NaOH could be lower than
actual

Symptoms And Treatment Of Lyme Disease
ntroduction
Lyme disease has been the most commonly reported vector borne illness in the United States since
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention started reporting it in 1991 [1]. It should be noted
that Lyme disease does not occur everywhere in the US, and is heavily concentrated in upper
Midwest and northeast United States [1]. This report has been compiled to provide
recommendations for antimicrobial prophylactic treatment of Lyme disease once a patient
encounters a tick bite.
Lyme disease is a multisystem inflammatory disorder caused by the spirochete Borrelia
burgdorferi, which is transmitted by Ixodes dammini. [3]. I. dammini is commonly known as and
referred to as the deer tick. Lyme disease can affect many organ systems ... Show more content on

Although a vaccine does exist, its cost and multiple doses needed to achieve immunity have limited
its acceptability by the medical community [20, 21]. Antimicrobial therapy has been at the forefront
of research in trying to identify if prophylactic treatment is necessary, what drug is most successful,
and what dosing is most appropriate.
Antimicrobial Prophylaxis
In 1992 Shapiro et al. published their research informing providers prophylactic antimicrobial
treatment is not routinely indicated [2] There were a total of 387 patients in the controlled trial,
203 patients assigned to receive amoxicillin and 182 were given a placebo [2]. Either 250mg of
amoxicillin or a placebo was given to subjects three times a day for ten days. 15 subjects dropped
out and 7 subjects had already shown positive serologic testing to B. burgdorferi and were
therefore dismissed from the study [2]. Out of 173 subjects who received the placebo only two
developed symptomatic infection with B. burgdorferi; whereas, none of the 192 subjects who were
given amoxicillin showed any infection. They concluded the risk of actually becoming infected
with B. burgdorferi is so small that the prophylactic use of antibiotics does not make a clinical
significance and should not be used. The authors also indicated that most deer ticks are actually not
infected with B. burgdorferi, which

The Historical Significance of Salt as Presented in the...
Since the early history of man, salt has always been nearby. Salt: A World History, written by Mark
Kurlansky, is describing the importance and the effects on history that salt has had over the
thousands of years of human history. Salt: A World History begins with a simple introduction,
which explains what content will be included in the book. Topics range from saltin the past, Greece,
Rome, Egypt, France, Germany, Poland, and Israel to recipes and instructions on making certain
foods, and to the etymology of words such as salary and salami: both which are stems of the word
salt. The book is divided into three sections, by specific periods of time. In the first section, Ancient
China, Egypt, and Rome are the focus, while in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such recipe instructs the reader on how to make a Baked Spiced Ham. Select a nicely cured
ham. Soak overnight in cold water. Wipe off and put on in enough water to cover. Simmer for
three hours. Let cool in the water it was cooked in. Take out and trim. Put into baking pan, stick
with cloves and cover with brown sugar. Bake in moderate oven for two hours. Baste with white
wine. Serve with a savoury salad. (Kurlansky 218) Even though it is an informational book, the
reader thinks that it could also be perceived as somewhat of a how to book, due to the vast
amount of information available to the reader. The book is filled with meaningful quotes, such as,
Today, thousands of years of coveting, fighting over, hoarding, taxing and searching for salt
appear picaresque and slightly foolish. (Kurlansky 13) Wars today are fought over land and money,
never something as trivial as salt. But thousands of years ago, salt was vital to human health.
Chinese salt history begins with the mythical Huangdi, who invented writing, weaponry, and
transportation. According to the legends, he also had the distinction of presiding over the first war
ever fought over salt. (Kurlansky 18) This quote tells of the importance of the Chinese, one of the
first civilizations to use salt for industrialization. In the list of great rivers that played essential roles
in the history of salt the Yangtze, the Nile, the Tiber, and the Po, the Elbe and the Danube, the

Medic Vs Emt Research Paper
Medic VS. EMT
You are a bystander to an accident on the road. You notice a person pleading for help as they are
screaming in pain, what do you do? Well, it honestly depends on which profession you have
chosen: Medic or EMT? When I compare being a Medic in the United States Military to being a
civilian EMT; I think that being a Medic is better. Upon comparing the credentials and future
availability to attain additional credentials, individual capabilities, and impact on health of those
treated, I believe that you too will agree with the idea that being a Medic is more beneficial.
First, we will discuss being a Civilian EMT. To be an EMT an individual must complete an EMT
program through a technical school or college. After completion of the course the individual is
required to pass a state test. After passing the state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be a Medic, and individual would complete 10 weeks of basic training, followed by 16 weeks
of Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) training at Advanced Individual Training (AIT)
which consisted of EMT training completing the National Registry of Emergency Medical
Technicians (NREMT) test and field or trauma training. The Medic must recert the NREMT
every 2 years after completing a preset number of hours of continuing education units and a
Table VIII training. Medics work under their provider s license and their scope of practice is
determined by that provider and what they are comfortable with. Medics can take additional
trainings such as Advanced Cardivascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life
Support (PALS) just to name a few. Medics can administer IV Fluids and some medications with
provider approval. Provide basic CPR among other things provider specific, such as some teach
their medics how to do chest tubes. The military in conjunction with schools offer hybrid programs
in nursing to medics. They also have programs like IPAP for PhysicianAssistant (PA)

Unusual Tactics by the United States in the Pacific War
The war in the Pacific was unlike any war the United States had fought up until that time. They
couldn t use their normal ground attack tactics; they had to figure out how to win from above.
Unlike in the European front they couldn t move through and allied country to forge a ground
attack against their enemy. They needed to find a way to hit Japan from the air with the added
difficulty of the mainland being across an ocean from the target. Before any attack could be
launched the U.S. needed supplies in the form of long range bombers. These bombers were
extremely important in the Pacific Theater, without them the U.S. wouldn t have beaten Japan.
After the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 it took the United States until
April of 1942 to retaliate. That was done through the Doolittle Raid. A group of 16 B 25 launched
from the USS Hornet to conduct the first bombing on Japanese soil. Despite not having very
much of a military significance the raid of Tokyo was a great boost to the moral of military and
the public of the United States. It showed both Japan and the U.S. that Japan wasn t out of reach
and was no longer isolated in the Pacific. After the 1942 campaign it wasn t until 1944 when the
U.S. launched another bombing attack on Japan. At the beginning the War in the Pacific had a slow
start, much of that had to do with the preparation it took to attack the enemy in a new style of
warfare.
The Doolittle raid proved the need for a long range bomber.

Essay on Models of Corrections
The history of correctional thought and practice has been marked by enthusiasm for new
approaches, disillusionment with these approaches, and then substitution of yet other tactics (Clear
59). During the mid 1900s, many changes came about for the system of corrections in America.
Once a new idea goes sour, a new one replaces it. Prisons shifted their focus from the punishment of
offenders to the rehabilitation of offenders, then to the reentry into society, and back to
incarceration. As times and the needs of the criminal justice system changed, new prison models
were organized in hopesof lowering the crime ratesin America. The three major models of prisons
that were developed were the medical, model, the community model, and the crime... Show more

Some people may not have a psychological disorder that put them in prison and others may never
recover from their illness. This program is a good idea if combined with other forms of punishment
as well.
The next big idea in the system of corrections was the idea of the community model. This model
was created during the 1960s after movements such as the Civil Rights Movement, the war on
poverty, and the resistance to the Vietnam war showed that social and political values have a major
impact on the criminal justice system. The community model of corrections was based on the
assumption that the criminal justice system should aim at reintegrating the offender into the
community(Clear 56). This model of corrections focused on alternatives to incarceration such as
probation or parole. Officials felt that prisons were to be avoided because they were artificial
institutions that interfered with the offender s ability to develop a crime free lifestyle(Clear 56).
Many thought that incarceration was a negative influence on criminals because it took away the
skills needed to successfully become a part of society once released. Under this program, an
offender would work with a counselor to find a job, and money so that they were not left to the
streets. When their sentence was up, they may be put in a half way house for monitoring how well
they were adapting to society. This system failed during the 1970s when

The Events And Encounters I Experienced On My Practicum
Introduction The purpose of the following report is to discuss the events and encounters I
experienced on my practicum. I completed my practicum with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement,
based out of Lethbridge, AB. I completed five, eight hour shifts, totaling to 40 hours. I had the
opportunity to ride along with two different peace officers. This allowed me to see two different
perspectives and ways of thinking with regards to the commercial vehiclejob. I completed by
practicum on the following dates and times: January 22, (2016) 1400 2200. January 23, 24
(2016) 1000 1800, and February 6, 7 (2016) 0700 1500. For the duration of my practicum we
patrolled many different areas and counties. We were not restricted to a small district and had
freedom to move about the Lethbridge district as we saw necessary.
Communication
I observed many different styles of verbal and non verbal communication throughout my
practicum. On one of the very first traffic stops myself and John Remus, the officer I rode along
with, made was due to a license plate not being visible. I noticed some key aspects of non verbal
communication. Upon approaching the window of a large semi truck we were met with a young
man who was clearly nervous and unaware of the reason for the stop. John stepped up onto the
running board of the semi and introduced himself and his occupation. John then notified the young
man of the reason for the stop and asked for the license and registration for the truck. John s

Essay Gender Struggles in Doubt a Parable Gender Struggles in Doubt: a Parable In the preface to Doubt: a Parable, John Patrick Shanley describes a significant factor to consider when reading his play: I ve set my story in 1964, when not just me, but the whole world seemed to be going through some kind of vast puberty (Shanley viii). During that period in time, America experienced vast growth across all areas of life from the home, to schools, to politics. Even the Catholic Churchseemed to be embrace this time of change with the new attitudes developed from the Second Vatican Council. The Church set out to break from the old, rigid structures of the past and take on a more relatable and approachable presence for its surrounding community. In spite of welcoming these... She expresses respect for both her superior and the system set in place, but she strongly considers the monsignor to be oblivious and other worldly in the extreme, even guileless to consider a situation of the sort occurring at their school (Shanley 19, 23). Sister Aloysius is adamant that simply following orders and reporting her suspicions to the monsignor will get nothing accomplished. A similar situation transpired at another school, but back then she had the support of a monsignor on whom she could count on. Sister Aloysius confides in Sister James, a younger teacher, Here, there s no man I can go to, and men run everything. We are going to have to stop him ourselves (Shanley 23). Knowing how the hierarchy functions and taking into consideration Monsignor Benedict s nature, she is certain that he would just ask Father Flynn and the matter would be settled because he would easily believe the pastor s defense. The Church hierarchy refrains Sister Aloysius from taking the matter up to the bishop so expecting that Monsignor Benedict will not believe her suspicions, the situation is essentially out of her hands. Nevertheless, Sister Aloysius is convinced that Father Flynn is physically molesting the child and devises a plan to get Father Flynn to confess to his crime. Regardless if he is innocent or guilty, Father Flynn knows very well that the male hierarchal system protects him and he does not miss the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Russia, The Motherland, By Russia Essay Russia, The Motherland From its Slavic and Viking past to its famous landmarks today, Russia is a very intriguing country. Many people consider Russia and its people to be hostile. However, that is not true. There are many examples to prove this. Russia has a very interesting past, affectionate culture, and many places to visit. Russia s history and language is very fascinating. In 1500 BC, the Slavs traveled through the Steppes into Western Russia and Poland. They settled and lived there for many centuries. In the Ninth Century, the Viking tribe, Rus, was moving inland. They settled and based themselves in Novgorod. Over the years, Russia developed its name from this Viking tribe. In 882, the Rus leader, Oleg, moved from Novgorod to Kiev. Here, Oleg would negotiate a treaty with Byzantine Empire. Into the 10th Century, the Rus still control Kiev, until Vladimir is proclaimed Prince of All of Russia. Vladimir is the first true Russian in the history of Russia. Vladimir s son , Yaroslav, establishes Kiev as the capital of Russia 39 years later. Through many years of prosperity and hard times, the first generations of real Russians begin to develop. Over these years, Moscow begins to prosper, and become the new capital of Russia. Moscow is still the capital of Russia. Many years later, during the intense era of World War II, the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) bands together with the Allies to defeat the Fascist Reich. Contemporary Ancient Myth in Ovid s Echo and Narcissus and Wilde s Dorian Gray Each time a story is told, elements of the original are often changed to suit new situations and current societies, or to offer a new perspective. Over the centuries, Ovid s tale of Echo and Narcissus has been told many times to new audiences, and in the late nineteenth century, it took the form of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Echo and Narcissus is the tale of a beautiful boy who fell in love with his reflection in a pond, and spurned others who loved him because he was so fixated upon himself. As a result of his extreme self worship and consequent inability to love another, Narcissus perishes. Although several aspects of the original myth are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basil, the painter of Dorian s portrait, causes the innocent Dorian to realize his beauty when shown his painting. Like Narcissus, Dorian becomes vain and self absorbed as a result of recognizing his physical magnificence. Under the influence of Lord Henry, Dorian throws off all moral restraint and lives a life of passionate self indulgence (Miller 384). Therefore, the lives of both Narcissus and Dorian are shaped by the actions of their mentors. In adapting Basil s persona from his mythological counterpart Tiresias, Wilde alters the original character to illustrate how Basil s excessive admiration of Dorian led to the youth s eventual demise. While Tiresias played only an indirect role in Narcissus life by foreseeing his future, Basil actively leads Dorian to his corruption. Basil Hallward s extreme fondness for Dorian arises from the inspiration that Dorian s beauty and purity provides in the expression of his art. Basil says to Dorian, I quite admit that I adored you madly, extravagantly, absurdly...you became to me the visible incarnation of that unseen ideal whose memory haunts us artists like an exquisite dream (Wilde 126). These qualities in Dorian inspire Basil to visualize a new style of art which fuses classical and romantic elements and harmonizes body and soul (Koll 155). Basil argues that the artist ... • 8. Importance Of College Tuition College Tuition: Why is it so high? After high school, people either go right into college or find a job and decide whether or not college is the right choice for them. The choice would be a lot simpler if college tuition wasn t so high. Nobody wants student loan debts following them for the rest of their lives. Lowering or even making college tuition free, will encourage more people to get an education and become successful. People shouldn t have to pay thousands of dollars, in order to try and better themselves with higher education. The price of textbooks are ridiculous as well. Colleges need to offer free online textbooks to their students There are many things that can be done to achieve free college tuition, for example, unnecessary expenses college programs have to offer, such as athletic programs. Our governments high budgeted military fund can also be cut and the money can be used for making college tuition free or even less expensive. Many countries already provide tuition free colleges to their students. So why is college tuition so expensive? College tuition has been increasing its price over the years. Supposedly, the reason for higher tuition, is inflation. According to an article on USA today, under the College section, In the past 12 months, the rate of inflation stood at 2.2%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. • 9. A Passover Seder A Passover Seder Remembering how to pronounce Seder ( SAY dur ) correctly made me nervous at first, but there wasn t really any cause for me to say it. There was such a whirlwind of activity that I spent most of my time simply trying to keep up as new foods were brought to the table or unveiled, the many steps of a long dinner ceremony were described and engaged in, and certain religious songs or hymns were sung. A book was provided to everyone at the table, with English on one side of the page and Hebrew on the other, that was used to go through the ceremony one step at a time. All of the foods were unusual in sight, smell, and taste, but most were quite delicious (with some exceptions), and everyone had pillows to lean against at the dinner table which was akward at first but quickly became enjoyable. Everything, from each individual food item to the pillows to the drinking of wine (or grape juice) and the order of the entire meal carried some sort of significance, and was described during the meal according to the small books that had been handed out. Everyone, including my key informant, was very friendly and helpful sometimes to a humorous degree. The concern that I understood what was happening was mixed with a joviality regarding my ignorance not that I was made fun of, but that it was amusing to have someone entirely uninitiated in the background of the meal of the religion. There were also times when I felt almost invisible, as parts of the tradition such as songs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The situations of Anne Frank and Krystyna Chiger were especially difficult. Both Anne s and Krystyna s situations, which were similar and different, were difficult to survive through. Firstly, Anne Frank had a difficult time surviving through certain circumstances. Anne Frank s family and another family, the Van Daans, hid together in a tiny attic because they were in severe danger just because they were Jewish. There were eight people cramped together, and the situation was not very pleasant. • 14. Christian Philosophy Of Education, Evangelism, And... According to Schultz (2003) a Kingdom focused education must be built on the following four points: Jesus Christ, A Biblical Philosophy of Education, Evangelism, and Discipleship. The most appropriate place for Kingdom education to start is in the family where children are taught that only salvation in Christ can perfect a person (Schultz, 2003, p.19). Because Kingdom educationis rooted in development of a personal relationship with Christ it exists as a present reality and not a future physical kingdom (Schultz, 2003). The development of this relationship with Christ is a lifelong process that starts at birth and continues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (Schultz, 2003). Parents bear the primary responsibility for this education in Christ and must be supported by born again teachers who are also able to teach children the gospel message (Schultz, 2003, p.31). A proper Biblical Philosophy of Education enables students to be transformed into the image of Christ and be fully equipped to serve Christ in everyday life (Schultz, 2003, p. 39). The ultimate goal of Kingdom education is to develop a Godcentered worldview that empowers learners to think and act according to God s ways (Schultz, 2003, p. 49). Practicing a Christian Philosophy of education requires that a teacher s actions are in accord with their words because 95% of the time students will reject the content and accept the conduct (Schultz, 2003, p. 53). Being one who has known what my post high school plans are for quite some time and knowing that I want to earn a Strategic Communications degree from Ohio University, I am able to begin thinking about life after college. One of the biggest decisions a person will need to make almost immediately after college is deciding where to start their life. I have thought about staying in Findlay, my hometown, but have also really contemplated moving to Cleveland or one of its surrounding suburbs. While both Findlay and Cleveland are great places to live, finding a job and settling down in Findlay, rather than residing in the Cleveland area, is the better option for me because of the opportunities it offers. Coming back to Findlay after graduating from college is the most ethical choice for me because of the jobs the town has to offer. With a Strategic Communications degree, one living in the Findlay area can get a job working as a Recruiting Specialist at Automatic Data Processing s Recruitment Process Outsourcing office, as an Investor Relations Manager at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, or as the director of Visit Findlay, the cityand county s Convention and Visitors Bureau, once the position opens up ( Communications Jobs in Findlay, OH ). This seems to follow the adage that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, yet for Machiavelli he seems more concerned with actually emulating history in order to repeat success than looking out for particular things to avoid. • 18. Hind Swaraj And Indian Western Civilization Analysis Since the 17th century, Britain had been established on the Indian subcontinent along with the influence of its Western economic, political, military, and educational systems. In Hind Swaraj or Indian Home Rule, Gandhi repudiates Britain s Western civilization as essentially secular, failing to embody morality and religion and instead indulging in materialism. In contrast, the morally superior Indian civilization is anchored in the belief of God. Therefore, he argues that Indiamust achieve Swarajor self rule from Britain to preserve and embrace the true India created by its ancestors. Successful passive resistance against the British Raj, through individual swaraj or complete control over one s own physical body and soul, will enable India to cure the disease of civilization. Gandhi begins his critique of Western civilization by listing its symptoms, most importantly, industrialization. The development of machinery has transformed everyday life in Europe and has attempted to promote overall well being of the individual and society. However, Gandhi differentiates this means of progress as strictly superficial, believing these developments only promote bodily happiness and self indulgence. In the past, for example, men were required to manually plow land, but this long process evolved with the invention of the steam engine so that a single man can plow significantly more land and thereby gain the monetary rewards for the machine s efficiency. By contrasting previous ways of life to reality, Gandhi emphasizes the changes brought about by civilization and the newfound reliance on superfluous wealth to buy superfluities for the means of physical comfort. Money, Gandhi argues, is England s god and guides the pathway of Britain s goal to convert the whole world into a vast market for their goods (37). Western civilization induces moral weakness, allowing people to give in to their earthly desires, making bodily welfare the object of life (31). The illusion of wealth as the means to happiness is the focal point of civilization and will ultimately lead to its own destruction. Conclusively, Britain s persistent, yet remediable disease of Western civilization is a grossly incompetent model for India. True ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Between 1819, the ending of the First Seminole War, and 1835, the beginning of the Second, the United States government did everything within its power to not only remove the Natives Americans from its borders, but did so through seditious and deceptive legislature. It was during this time that the expansion of the power of the president and a complete disregard for foreign affairs characterized the union and their willingness to use extralegal means to achieve their desired goals. This era remains one of the saddest affairs in American history, and provides insight into how the executive branch was able to attain new power during the era of Jackson. In order to understand the significance of the events preceding the Second Seminole War, one must first examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. The store s goal in this competitive (surrounding conditions) is to make the retail outlet and its products so attractive that the (related to people who use a product or service) (instances of buying things for money) the product right then and there, rather than ordering it electronically. A store can install a variety of LED lighting options to backlight products or to create indirect or quiet lighting in different parts of a store. Display cases for smaller items, such as jewelry of personal fashion can be lit with brighter LED s that draw attention to fine patterns and textures. Since LED lights operate at low temperatures and without creating the excess heat that is just like traditional display case lighting, the store s products that are bought and sold will not be harmed by any excess warmth in display cases. Many stores operate on thin (how much money is being made), which forces them to reduce operating costs wherever possible. LED lighting for retail has the possible ability to reduce a retail store s electrical utility costs by more than half. Modern LED lighting is so (producing a lot with very little waste) that it can create the same or better lighting as a traditional lighting fixture with less than half of the electrical energy input. LED bulbs also last longer than other forms of lighting, and the store s lighting maintenance costs will be reduced. LED lighting for retail therefore has the possible ability to increase a store s sales and to reduce overhead costs, all of which gives directly to a store s (money made/good things received). Stores that operate stand alone locations that are separate from large malls and other shopping outlets can make their stores more inviting with bright exterior LED lighting. A shopper will ... The origins of this belief probably relapse into two distinctive features of the US economy, the development of private ownership of capital, combined with a relatively small business, public sector and the absence of a strong centralized economic planning. This then created a ripple effect or spillover effect that spread to the rest of the States that had financial ties with the U.S as well as those States that invested in their mortgage financial products (Helleiner, p. 69). Since my Bachelor degree is from Copenhagen Business School and my bachelor degree is more in the humanities/Business communication combined with European studies i.e. the EU, I had more looked at it from an EU perspective and not really the financial part or the global aspect of the financial crisis. I learned and saw that when the crisis hit Europe, the EU was really being put to a test because all 27 members were connected by the ratified treaties that they were signatory to in order to become an EU member which also meant that the financial burden had to be divided amongst the members. Germany being a very big State had to carry the largest burden and that has begun to put a strain on Germany s patience (Connolly). The benefits of family planning services provided by the government are the preventative health services that are provided, and the cost savings from the reduction of birth related costs. Better Programs, Better Outcomes One key way to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies is through the implementation of comprehensive family planning programs, and increasing access to these services. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Admittedly, there was a difference in the way the Spanish and English lead to the Native Americans downfall. The Spanish Friars forcibly convert the indigenous people with the mission system going as far as to kidnap a Native America to convert him to Catholicism. The English converted the natives using Praying towns which were completely optional and did not force the Native American to work for the colonist. This difference occurred because the Spanish Friars and the conquistadors were more focused on getting labor out of the natives while the English settlers mainly wanted to save the indigenous people, who the English colonists thought were savage and doomed. On the other hand, there was similarity in the way the Spanish and English forced the Native Americans to war after attacking their religion and taking their land. The way the Spanish used the encomienda system. This was a system set up by the Spanish king in which he lent out land to conquistadors to make profit by using anything that was on the land including people. Statistics is the science of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data in order to make decisions. The mean of a data set is the sum of the data entries divided by the number of entries. The median of a data set is the value that lies in the middle of the data when the data set is ordered. The mode of a data set is the data entry that occurs with the greatest frequency. Standard deviation is a quantity calculated to indicate the extent of deviation for a group as a whole. The range of a data set is the difference between the maximum and minimum data entries in the set. Introduction/aim the aim of this experiment is to see how changing the concentration of hydrochloric acid would change its rate of reaction with Sodium Thiosulphate. This was done by changing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid to 4 different concentrations and adding them to the same amount of sodium thiosulphate. This is done in different beakers that will previously be placed over a piece of paper marked with an x. Once the reaction fully takes place, the x would no longer be visible therefore the time it takes for the x to no longer be visible is our dependent variable. Hypothesis the hypothesis is that as the concentration is increased, the rate of reaction will increase, but the time will decrease. This is because if the concentration is higher, there will be more of the sodium thiosulphate, therefore the reaction will take less time as the two mixtures will collide at a higher frequency. The trend in the graphs that will be later plotted will not be directly proportional. Graph 1 ( concentration vs time ) has a negative correlation and graph 2 ( concentration vs rate ) has a positive correlation. This is because as the concentration is increased the time will decrease, that s why graph 1 will have a negative correlation. Graph 2 will have a positive correlation as rate will be 1/time, therefore the graph flips. Neither of the graphs will be directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book is filled with meaningful quotes, such as, Today, thousands of years of coveting, fighting over, hoarding, taxing and searching for salt appear picaresque and slightly foolish. (Kurlansky 13) Wars today are fought over land and money, never something as trivial as salt. But thousands of years ago, salt was vital to human health. Chinese salt history begins with the mythical Huangdi, who invented writing, weaponry, and transportation. According to the legends, he also had the distinction of presiding over the first war ever fought over salt. (Kurlansky 18) This quote tells of the importance of the Chinese, one of the first civilizations to use salt for industrialization. In the list of great rivers that played essential roles in the history of salt the Yangtze, the Nile, the Tiber, and the Po, the Elbe and the Danube, the Rhone and the Loire a ... • 51. Unusual Tactics by the United States in the Pacific War The war in the Pacific was unlike any war the United States had fought up until that time. They couldn t use their normal ground attack tactics; they had to figure out how to win from above. Unlike in the European front they couldn t move through and allied country to forge a ground attack against their enemy. They needed to find a way to hit Japan from the air with the added difficulty of the mainland being across an ocean from the target. Before any attack could be launched the U.S. needed supplies in the form of long range bombers. These bombers were extremely important in the Pacific Theater, without them the U.S. wouldn t have beaten Japan. After the surprise Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 it took the United States until April of 1942 to retaliate. That was done through the Doolittle Raid. A group of 16 B 25 launched from the USS Hornet to conduct the first bombing on Japanese soil. Despite not having very much of a military significance the raid of Tokyo was a great boost to the moral of military and the public of the United States. It showed both Japan and the U.S. that Japan wasn t out of reach and was no longer isolated in the Pacific. After the 1942 campaign it wasn t until 1944 when the U.S. launched another bombing attack on Japan. At the beginning the War in the Pacific had a slow start, much of that had to do with the preparation it took to attack the enemy in a new style of warfare. The Doolittle raid proved the need for a long range bomber. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Essay on Models of Corrections The history of correctional thought and practice has been marked by enthusiasm for new approaches, disillusionment with these approaches, and then substitution of yet other tactics (Clear 59). During the mid 1900s, many changes came about for the system of corrections in America. Once a new idea goes sour, a new one replaces it. Prisons shifted their focus from the punishment of offenders to the rehabilitation of offenders, then to the reentry into society, and back to incarceration. As times and the needs of the criminal justice system changed, new prison models were organized in hopesof lowering the crime ratesin America. The three major models of prisons that were developed were the medical, model, the community model, and the crime... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people may not have a psychological disorder that put them in prison and others may never recover from their illness. This program is a good idea if combined with other forms of punishment as well. The next big idea in the system of corrections was the idea of the community model. This model was created during the 1960s after movements such as the Civil Rights Movement, the war on poverty, and the resistance to the Vietnam war showed that social and political values have a major impact on the criminal justice system. The community model of corrections was based on the assumption that the criminal justice system should aim at reintegrating the offender into the community(Clear 56). This model of corrections focused on alternatives to incarceration such as probation or parole. Officials felt that prisons were to be avoided because they were artificial institutions that interfered with the offender s ability to develop a crime free lifestyle(Clear 56). Many thought that incarceration was a negative influence on criminals because it took away the skills needed to successfully become a part of society once released. Under this program, an offender would work with a counselor to find a job, and money so that they were not left to the streets. When their sentence was up, they may be put in a half way house for monitoring how well they were adapting to society. This system failed during the 1970s when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. The Events And Encounters I Experienced On My Practicum Introduction The purpose of the following report is to discuss the events and encounters I experienced on my practicum. I completed my practicum with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, based out of Lethbridge, AB. I completed five, eight hour shifts, totaling to 40 hours. I had the opportunity to ride along with two different peace officers. This allowed me to see two different perspectives and ways of thinking with regards to the commercial vehiclejob. I completed by practicum on the following dates and times: January 22, (2016) 1400 2200. January 23, 24 (2016) 1000 1800, and February 6, 7 (2016) 0700 1500. For the duration of my practicum we patrolled many different areas and counties. We were not restricted to a small district and had freedom to move about the Lethbridge district as we saw necessary. Communication I observed many different styles of verbal and non verbal communication throughout my practicum. On one of the very first traffic stops myself and John Remus, the officer I rode along with, made was due to a license plate not being visible. I noticed some key aspects of non verbal communication. Upon approaching the window of a large semi truck we were met with a young man who was clearly nervous and unaware of the reason for the stop. John stepped up onto the running board of the semi and introduced himself and his occupation. John then notified the young man of the reason for the stop and asked for the license and registration for the truck. John s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
