Essay On The Yellow Wallpaper
Crafting an essay on "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a multifaceted task that demands a delicate
balance of literary analysis, critical thinking, and the ability to delve into the intricate layers of
the narrative. This seminal work by Charlotte Perkins Gilman explores complex themes such as
mental illness, gender roles, and societal constraints, making it a challenging canvas for
interpretation.
The intricacies of the protagonist's descent into madness, coupled with the symbolic significance
of the yellow wallpaper itself, necessitate a keen understanding of literary devices and a
nuanced approach to textual analysis. One must navigate the subtle nuances of Gilman's writing
style, capturing the essence of her deliberate choices in language, imagery, and symbolism.
Moreover, the essay should transcend mere summary and delve into the broader socio-cultural
context of the time when the story was written. This requires research into the late 19th-century
attitudes towards mental health, prevailing notions of femininity, and the societal expectations
imposed on women during that era.
The interpretative nature of the task means that each essayist must grapple with their own
unique perspective on the text. The challenge lies in constructing a coherent and persuasive
argument while respecting the ambiguity and open-endedness intentionally embedded within the
narrative.
In conclusion, composing an essay on "The Yellow Wallpaper" entails a journey into the
intricacies of literature, psychology, and societal norms. It demands not only a meticulous
understanding of the text but also the ability to synthesize information and present a compelling
interpretation. It is an undertaking that requires time, dedication, and a genuine appreciation for
the complexities woven into this classic work.

Music Therapy ( Mt )
For most, music plays an integral role in life. Whether it s putting a playlist on to
get hyped up for a daily workout, or shuffling through an Adele album to get through
a bad break up. In short, music is connected to our mood. Henceforth, it should come
as no surprise that music therapy (MT) has been used in various forms of rehab,
specifically in terms of AutismSpectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is a condition masked
with impairments to social functioning, speech, and language along with unusual
behaviors such as fixations and repetitive movements (Boso et al., 2007). Therapy
associated with ASD has usually been associated with speech fixation therapy or
occupational and physical activity/challenged based therapy, to name a few, however

In a study conducted by LaGasse in 2004 looked to measure the effect of music
therapy when conducted as a group to see if the social skills of children with ASD
would change, compared to a regular social skills group. The study employed
seventeen participants with an age range of 6 to 9 years old. The groups engaged
in 10 sessions, twice a week, with a schedule of a welcome exercise, followed by a
rotation of sensory and social experiences and finally ended with a farewell
exercise. The social experiences specifically looked at promoting eye contact,
communication and joint attention (LaGasse, 2014). Exercises included passing a
ball amongst the group, board games, and telling of jokes to the group. The
experience of music to half of the groups was done in a way that would be similar
to the nonmusical groups, such as music making instead of play a game or using
music to help complete a social interaction (LaGasse, 2014). Results found that
specifically after finishing all ten sessions, parents of children who received music
based therapy reported large increases in not only eye contact situations, but also in
length of time. While eye gaze did increase overall, LaGasse found that it increased
among peers but decreased amongst adults, explaining it could be due to the
facilitators shifting for a more peer to peer interaction. Results from LaGasse s study
were able to show initial evidence those social skills such as joint attention and eye
contact could be

man s personality. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a novel about a man named Henry Jekyll

Henry Jekyll forge for a murderer! Mr Utterson is shocked at what kind of a person
Dr Jekyll has become, because Mr Utterson thinks Dr Jekyll has forged a letter to
protect a murderer. When people meet or see Mr Hyde they are shocked by his
appearance. His appearance is said to be evil: He is not easy to describe. There is
something wrong with his appearance, something downright detestable, I never
saw a man I so disliked, and yet I scarce know why. He must be deformed
somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn t specify the
point. He s an extraordinary looking man, and yet I really can name nothing of the
way. The quote conveys that one can t understand why Hyde is described until he
is seen. Dr Jekyll goes pale at the thought of Mr Hyde: The large handsome face of
Dr Jekyll grew pale to the very lips, and there came a blackness about his eyes, I do
not care to hear more. This shows that Dr Jekyll doesn t like to hear about evil Mr
Hyde, which suggests the two are opposites. A blackness about his eyes is
mentioned, the word blackness seems to imply evil. Mr Hyde is described like an
animal: And the next moment, with ape like fury, he was trampling his victim under
foot, and hailing down a storm of blows, under which the bones were audibly
shattered and the body jumped on the roadway. This contrasts to Dr Jekyll s
composure. Hyde is

Diversity of Louisiana Creole Culture Louisiana Creoles are persons descended from
the inhabitants of colonial Louisiana during the period of both French and Spanish

of this vanishing, alternative culture. Their diversity is well pronounced as a

The food of the Louisiana Creole represents the diversity of the culture. The

Hamlet In Hamlet
[didn t get this one]
In 5.1, Hamlet has returned to Denmark. This is the scene of Ophelia s funeral.
Hamlet jumps into Ophelia s grave because he wants to Laertes that he cares about
Ophelia s passing just as much as he does. Hamlet mentions that he really did love
Ophelia ( I loved Ophelia: forty thousand brothers Could not, with all their quantity
of love, Make up my sum. What wilt thou do for her? ) and feels the need to prove
that. The contest that he enters is a fencing match against Laertes that the king set up.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern have been put to death because when Hamlet found the
letter that was sent to England that said to put Hamlet to death, he switched the
letters and told the King of england to kill Rosencrantz and Guildenstern ( Let the
king have the letters I have sent; and repair thou to me with as much speed as thou
wouldst fly death. I have words to speak in thine ear will make thee dumb; yet are
they much too light for the bore of the matter. These good fellows will bring thee
where I am. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern hold their course for England: of them I
have much to tell thee. Farewell. ) Hamlet says they deserved to be put to death
because he basically was their prisoner and they have done things to him that they
knew were wrong ( They have dealt with me like thieves of mercy: but they knew
what they did; I am to do a good turn for them. ). In my opinion, I don t know if I d
say they deserved to be put to death, but they weren t being

The Seattle Sounders have access to multiple financial and physical resources. But
none of their resources are as valuable as Quest field. The beautiful downtown arena
is extremely lucrative. It s also the team s secret weapon.
I heard that the Sounders borrow marketing strategies from the Seahawks. They
wouldn t have this opportunity if the Clink was built. Paul Allen s involvement in
both franchises has been extremely valuable. His connections and financial resources
have provided numerous opportunities for both franchises. Allen s most valuable
opportunity was the construction of the Clink.

Chanting is a large part of the Soccer tradition. If you thought the concept of a bunch
of fans singing and chanting was impressive; you should hear the experience

from a true home field advantage during every match.
If Seattle is looking for an edge all it has to do is pull out it s wallet. The Sounders
benefit from a unique financial situation. Remember the marketing strategies I
mentioned earlier ? I guarantee you that at least 90% of them are profitable. Seattle

Surface Area to Volume Ratio and the Relation to the Rate of Diffusion
Aim and Background
This is an experiment to examine how the Surface Area / Volume Ratio affects the
rate of diffusion and how this relates to the size and shape of living organisms.
The surface area to volume ratio in living organisms is very important. Nutrients
and oxygen need to diffuse through the cell membrane and into the cells. Most cells
are no longer than 1mm in diameter because small cells enable nutrients and oxygen
to diffuse into the cell quickly and allow waste to diffuse out of the cell quickly. If
the cells were any bigger than this then it would take too long for the nutrients and
oxygen to diffuse into the cell so the cell would probably not ... Show more content

The larger blocks have a smaller surface area than the smaller blocks. The smallest
block has 1.2mm squared of surface area for every 1mm cubed of volume. The
largest block only has 0.2mm squared of surface area for each 1mm cubed of
volume. This means that the hydrochloric acid is able to diffuse the smallest block
much faster than the largest block.
When the Surface Area/Volume Ratio goes down it takes longer for the
Legislation and Incarceration in United States
Legislation and Incarceration
(Order #A2068178) The incarceration rate in the United States has steadily risen since
1973, and Franklin Zimring has examined the relationship between penal legislation
and the incarceration rate. He has discovered three distinct periods which demonstrate
three differences in the way legislation effects penal practices. During the first period
in which there was a major rise in incarceration rates, 1973 1985, Zimring asserted
that there was no relationship between penal legislation and the increase in
incarceration rates. However, in the second period, from 1985 1993, the government s
War on Drugs, and the subsequent legislation designed to increase sentences for drug
related activities, there was a distinct relationship between penal legislation and
incarceration rates. But in the final period, 1993 2002, Zimring concluded that penal
legislation has not only had an influence on incarceration rates, but that this influence
has demonstrably increased. In other words, over the last generation, the influence
that penal legislation plays on incarceration rates has increased from practically
nothing into a major influence. Because the United States has fifty individual states,
each proscribed by the Constitution to be responsible for its own criminal justice
system, there are a large number of individual legal jurisdictions. And this many
jurisdictions would lead many to believe that there is not a uniform set of principles

First Day After Thanksgiving Research Paper
The next day after Thanksgiving, which always is on the fourth Thursday of
November, is called Black Friday and it usually marks the beginning of the holiday
shopping season. It has come to be known as the busiest shopping day of the year.
The origin of this phrase has its roots in the 20th century. The first mention of Black
Friday appeared for the first time in 1951 in a newspaper referring to the habit of
workers to call in sick after thanksgiving, in order to earn a four day weekend. After
approximately 10 years, the term has come to be used by the Philadelphia police to
describe the chaos caused by pedestrians, shoppers and traffic jams on the day after
Thanksgiving.
As we mentioned already, this event is branded as the beginning of the holiday
shopping season, since Christmas is the next major holiday after Thanksgiving. In
the United States of America, in the bigger cities, on Thanksgiving Day there are
parades where people gather to see the balloons, performances and marching bands.
These parades are sponsored by important department stores, the most known being
the Macy s Parade, which happens in New York City, becoming a symbol of the
holiday. The businesses were trying to use it, in the early 20th century as a big
advertisement push, eventually an unwritten rule ... Show more content on

They would prepare extensive lists with huge discounts and make them public in
order to allow the individuals to make plans and set aside a budget. Another
phenomenon linked with this event is Cyber Monday, which has been invented in

and Thanksgiving. One more day has come to be known as an online shopping day,
namely Singles Day, promoted by the huge Chinese online retailer Alibaba, which, in
2015, became the biggest online shopping day in history, Chinese consumers spending

Use of Symbols, Tensions, and Irony in The Glass Menagerie
The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, is a perfect example of how Williams
incorporates symbols, tensions, and irony to help express the central theme of the
play.
One of the most dominant symbols in the play is the fire escape. It represents
something different for each of the characters. Tom uses the fire escape to escape
from his cramped apartment and nagging mother. Therefore, the fire escape
symbolizes a path to the outside world. For Jim, the gentleman caller, the fire escape
represents a means of entering the Wingfield apartment and by doing so, entering the
Wingfields lives. The mother, Amanda, sees the fire escape as a possible... Show

Tom talks of his rainbow colored scarf that was used at a magic show to change a
bowl of goldfish into flying canaries. Like the canaries, Tom hopes to escape from
his prison and fly away. The rainbow reflections at the Dance Hall, created by the
chandeliers, foreshadow the dance between Jim and Laura. This dance gave Laura
a sense of hope for herself. Later though, Tom looks at the pieces of colored glass,
like bits of a shattered rainbow , which represents Laura s broken hopes and dreams.
Tom uses irony as a means of keeping pain and himself apart. Amanda accuses Tom of
going out drinking every night, and to this Tom makes up a humorous story about
how killer, killer, Wingfield spends his nights in opium dens, dens of vice and
criminals hangouts... By Tom agreeing with his mother and turning what was an
argument into a form of art, based completely on exaggerations, he ends up ironically
protecting himself. By turning the situation into a joke, Tom distances himself from
the situation and the pain.
Tom also makes a joke out of his father s abandonment. He recalls his father as a
telephone man who fell in love with long distances . He also speaks of the last time
he heard from his father with another ironic twist, a postcard saying nothing but,
Hello Goodbye . Ironically, the last words spoken by Tom in the play are the same as
his father s and so

Nationalism has been extremely important and influential in shaping the modern
world we see today, causing revolutions, rebellions and the constant reshaping of
world maps continuing even today. Its appeal is something that I don t believe will
diminish in the future. Many theologians and political commentators alike agree that
Nationalism has perhaps been one of the most prominent political ideologies of the

Modernist philosophers agree that modernism is only possible in a developed
industrial society, where a strong economy provides a strong backbone for the nation
s development, there is a presence of a centralized authority and the nation is
connected through a single common language in which everyone can communicate
with each other4. Although not known as a nationalist, the father of communism
Karl Marx described nationalism has being the transformation from feudalism to
capitalism, and saw nationalism as nothing more than a trend which would soon
pass5. However this was not the case, the industrial revolution stirred up patriotic
sentiments throughout Europe, especially Germany, France and Great Britain,
which lead to an arms race powered by industry, this played a major role in the lead
up into WWI. Modernism continues to shape the modern world even today, a form
of modernism much like the one seen during the industrial revolution can be seen in
places such as India and China, who are currently experiencing their own version of
the industrial revolution. It can also be seen in the middle east where political
movements such as the Muslim brotherhood have stepped into power in places such
as Egypt after a revolt against the former dictator President Mubarak in 2011, which

Religious Conflicts in The Song of Roland
The French epic, The Song of Roland, relates the conflicts between Christians and
Muslims in 778 A.D. In it, Charlemagne and his men, weary in their seventh year of
battle against pagan forces in Spain, have captured every heathen stronghold but the
kingdom of Saragossa, held by the Muslim king Marsile. Terrified of the might of
Charlemagne s army, Marsile promises treasures, hostages and his conversion to
Christianity if the Frankswill go back to France. However, Marsile has no intention
of surrendering and wants only for Charlemagne to end his siege of the city and get
out of Spain. Charlemagne does not trust Marsile but nevertheless accepts the
proposal despite his nephew, Rolands, objections. Roland nominates his stepfather,
Ganelon, as a messenger to go back to Marsile s court. Ganelon initially protests
but is forced to accept the dangerous commission. He fears that he ll die in the
hands of the bloodthirsty pagans and publicly vows that, As long as I live, I shall
have no love for [Roland] (Song 39). Ganelon has long been jealous of Roland, and
on his diplomatic mission he finds an opportunity for revenge. Ganelon advises
Marsile that the only way to make Charlemagne leave Spain forever is to bring
about Roland s death. Roland is Charlemagne s right hand in warfare; without
Roland, the Frankish king would despair and could not hope to conquer Spain. In
collusion with Marsile, Ganelon plots his revenge: he will see to it that Roland is

Digital Image And Its Effect On The Quality Of Image
Abstract: In image processing, noise reduction and restoration of image is expected
to improve the qualitative inspection of an image and the performance criteria of
quantitative image analysis techniques Digital image is inclined to a variety of
noise which affects the quality of image. The main purpose of de noising the image
is to restore the detail of original image as much as possible. The criteria of the noise
removal problem depends on the noise type by which the image is corrupting .In the
field of reducing the image noise several type of linear and non linear filtering
techniques have been proposed . Different approaches for reduction of noise and
image enhancement have been considered, each of which has their own limitation

This book was originally published in 1861. Based on the lecture 2 note of week 4
first half of nineteen century was the economic growth era. In the South, the economy
was centered on agriculture and slavery, while in the North the economy was
depended on industrial manufacturing and machines. Since slaverywas not very
popular in the North and abolitionist movements had been started in the North in
1830 (P.349), people in the North did not know the truth about slavery in the South.
The writer Harriet Jacobs under the pseudonym Linda Brent explains in the preface
that she did not write this book to talk about her suffering or her fight to become a
free woman, her purpose of writing this book was to show a demonstration of the

Why Is Family Guy Banned
There are also some adult TV shows that have some episodes that are so vulgar
they can t show them on TV. For example, Family Guy has an episode called Terms
Of Endearment. This episode was banned from TV and barely legal. In my
opinion, this one is equal to another episode that is as inappropriate as this. I think
the main reason why is because of how offensive it was for some people. In another
episode of Family Guythat actually couldn t get aired on TV for a while is If You
Wish Upon A Weinstein. This episode has insults towards stupid people and it has
constant stereotypes towards Jews. The whole episode is literally about saying all
Jews are good with money. While shows like Simpsons can go to episodes revolving
around different people.

Few animal studies have proved that gabapentin has a potential to activate a
serotonin receptor (5HT3) at the spinal level and also attenuate the function of
microglial cells[6]. In some parts of the brain such as periaqueductal grey (PAG)
and anterior cingulated cortex, gabapentin has been shown to elevate the level of
GABA, a major inhibitory neurotransmitter, which might serve as an explanation of
its efficacy in partial management of seizure[14]. Although gabapentin is approved

Due to an effect of gabapentin at the level of hypothalamus to regulate the
temperature, it can also be used as an effective non hormonal therapy for hot
flashes, a bothersome problem of menopause. It is shown to be more efficacy if
used in patients with hot flashes that associated with sleep interference [17]. Study
shows that a bioavailability of gabapentin is low and it is dose dependent. The
bioavailability of 300 mg is around 60% and decreasing to less than 30% if the
dosage is 1600 mg 3 times a day [4; 11]. It has low protein binding property and it is
eliminated unchanged in the urine, which means it will not change into toxic
metabolite or intermediate that can be harmful to the body. Gabapentin has a
short half life of 5 to 9 hours, but with renal impairment, it will increase[4]. A dose
adjustment is required in patient who has creatinine clearance of 60 ml/min and in
the elderly because of reduced renal function that has been thought to be decreased
around 1% per year after the age of 40[4; 16]. A number needed to treat (NNT) of
gabapentin is 6.3 and its number needed to harm (NNH) is 25.6, therefore it is
considered a safe drug [6]. The ceiling effect has been reported to be 100 mg/kg in
one study and 30 300 mg/kg in another study following oral administration [13]. The
pharmacokinetic of absorption of gabapentin is not linear unlike other newer anti
seizure medications. The explanation for this event is because gabapentin absorption

do agree with this point since we may sometimes mistakenly make an extreme
comment on an event or a thing at first and we would try to downgrade that to a
milder word in order to avoid misunderstandings or even arguments. Thus, I believe
repairing may carry social functions in certain

EMR Compliance Report
Besides the benefits listed previously there were a few other reasons why the
hospital chose to go forward with the EMR. They looked at the options and found
that the best options were either paper or electronic records with all the benefits
being in favor of the electronic method. First of all, this new process will save
money in the long run by making the hospital more efficient and able to treat more
patients than before. On top of that, there was no longer a need for dictation of
medical records which saved the hospital from all of the costs associated with it. All
of this combined with the fact that patients are now better protected from human
legibility, processing errors, and unwanted exposure mean that this project was a wise

As the files were all put into a secure digital system, the security of patient
information reached a level unattainable with physical copies. One benefit that truly
helped everyone was the information had become much more legible. Without
handwritten paperwork, there were no more files that had illegible handwriting. This
put a stop to reader errors and guess work from poor penmanship. This was easier for
the staff and much safer for the patients. Creating, filing, and moving physical files
takes much more time than handling digital files. This meant that the time saved
through this project could now be dedicated to the patients instead. This project also
made phone calls, messages, and time spent waiting for responses unnecessary. With
an electronic system, physicians are now able to e message each other whatever
information is needed for the patient at a much higher speed than could be achieved

Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall...
There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is
available in a classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the
overall environment of the classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom
space impacts how teachers and students behave. He found that classrooms with
small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient pathways and look cluttered.
In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large amount of room
teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by other
pieces of furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow
patterns and created small open spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or
less identified and assigned the spaces that were to be used by students while
working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The ideal classroom is one where there
are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on classroom discussions and
positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is important to
understand what causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior
must be taken in context however, since one must look at the situation and instructor
to determine if a particular action falls in the misbehavior category. For example,
walking around during a math lesson would be unacceptable, but walking around in
a pottery class would be expected (Burden, 1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii Galton

Counterbalance In Lord Of The Flies By Zuckoff
The book 13 HOURS uses a long list of literary elements but the most important
element would have to be theme. The theme of the book is counterbalance and it
is represented as Yin Yang. As stated in the book, Yin Yang is a Chinese concept
that a connection exists between seemingly opposing forces, like dark and light,
life and death (Zuckoff 5). Obviously, counterbalance is an important part of nature
and therefore, the book shows the importance it has. Yin Yang is introduced by the
character Jack Silva, who is a former Navy SEAL and learns about the Chinese
concept while training to be a Navy SEAL. By the time he finished SEAL training,
Jack came to appreciate the yin and yang of what he d experienced the previous
two years (Zuckoff 15). Consequently, Jack decides to become a GRS agent
because he loves what he does in the military and he feels that he needs to keep
serving his country and the counterbalance comes in to play. If challenge and money
were the yin, danger was the yang (Zuckoff 17). The previous quote can also be
interpreted as high risk for a high reward.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first Jack is very serious and knows he is going in to a dangerous territory but,
then he feels happy because he is going somewhere new while doing what he loves
and then he transitions his focus onto his family and thinks if he is going to see
them ever again. Those mixed emotions are a display of the counterbalance or as
described in the book as the Yin Yang. First was excitement: I wonder what
adventures this place is going to bring. Then came its counterbalance, worry: I
wonder if It ll ever see my family again (Zuckoff

King Louis Vii s Reign
Louis VII was a Capetian King of the Franks from 1137 until his death. He was the
son and successor of King Louis IV of France, or most commonly known as Louis
the Fat. He was married to Eleanor of Aquitaine, one of the wealthiest and most
powerful women in Western Europe. Reigned from 1137 to 1180; b. 1120. The
second son of Louis VI and Adelaide of Maurienne. Louis s education at the
cathedral school in Paris prepared him for an ecclesiastical career; however, upon the
death of his brother, Philip, in 1131, he became heir to the French throne to which he
succeeded in 1137. Following their return from the Second Crusade (1477 1149),
Louis procured an annulment for his marriage with Eleanor of Aquitaine on the
grounds of consanguinity. He... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In May 1152, Eleanor subsequently married the future Henry II of England (r.
1154 1189), whose possessions in France and powerful ambition became a source
of rivalry and conflict for Louis. His contemporaries, including Odo de Deuil,
Stephen of Paris, John of Salisbury, and Walter Map praised Louis VII for his piety
and his favorable disposition toward the church. He undertook pilgrimages to
Santiago de Compostela (1154 55), the Grande Chartreuse (1162 63), and to
Canterbury (1179). Because of a disputed papal election, Alexander III sought
refuge in France in 1162, where he received Louis s welcome. Louis s protection of
Thomas Becket, who had fled to France in 1164 to escape the wrath of Henry II,
received widespread approval. Louis asserted his rights over the French church,
especially regarding episcopal elections in his realm and control over royal
churches. To provide continual support for his royal policies, elections to royal
bishoprics often went to members of the king s own household or to families loyal to
Capetian interests. As a benefactor to the Templars, Louis gave them the land for
their commandery at Savigny, along with sizable rents and privileges. He also made
generous grants to smaller monastic
Plato on the Parthenon Essay
Plato on the Parthenon
The philosophical ideas of Plato that relate to the Parthenon include whether the
structure is an element of the Visible World or the Intelligible World. In my opinion,
Plato would view the Parthenon as an object in the Visible World. The Parthenon is a
one of a kind monument that is tangible and exists in our real world. The Parthenon is
an architectural project and deals with forms of science and mathematics. Plato s
view of science and mathematics are categorized as forms in the Intelligible World,
which are intangible. Through analysis of illusory tactics, the Tripartite Soul, the
simile of the line, and the artistic qualities of architecture, Plato s, as well as my view

in architecture of the times. Several elements of the Parthenon follow nature based
models. The rectangular shape of The Parthenon was derived from the Golden Ratio
of 5:8, which can be seen in some flowers and nautilus seashells. The drums of The
Parthenon?s columns also have natural characteristics. Their diameter is similar to the
height of man. Plato?s view of compensation making The Parthenon ?less real? can
be contradicted with the nature based models that were used to construct it.
Plato?s view of Justice can be seen in his model of The Tripartite Soul. In this
model Plato outlines 3 sectors of his ideal society. This theoretical society is
composed of Guardians, Auxiliaries, and Producers. The Guardians were the upper
class citizens who had the authority to pass judgment. Guardians were rational and
wise, and could participate and become involved in politics. The Auxiliaries were
positioned as courageous citizens who helped preserve the spirit and emotion of a
society by ?protecting and serving? much like a modern day public works
department or police and fire squad. In the lowest tier of Plato?s ideal society were
the Producers, whose job it was to create. The Producers were to use temperance in
their lives, for they were classified as appetitive souls who could easily succumb to
bodily desires. The Producers were to practice asceticism, which is the eradication of
bodily desires.

Businesses that have few powerful buyers are not often able to dictate the terms
and conditions of a business. However in Netflix s scenario, there are many
powerful buyers which enforces the company s terms. The buyers are so powerful
that the Netflix CEO had to respond to the world with a written apology. The New
Market entrants include Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, and Vudu. These
companies were attracted to the Internet streaming entertainment as being a
profitable industry. However, Netflix maintains its land by its originality i.e. being
the first large scale operation of its kind. Netflix also holds the most content making
survival for the future companies very difficult. Supplier power is a measure of how
easy it is for a company to raise prices. As far as supplier power goes, Netflix has a
good brand reputation, geographical coverage, and high quality product and service
with their customers than the competitors. In terms of substitute products, Netflix has
a high quality product that was developed as a result of high level technology
compared to the competition. Strong substitute products that exist in the market will
increase the likelihood that customers would switch to alternatives if prices rise. The
impact of substitutes will reduce the power of suppliers and the market attractiveness.
Among all else, Netflix continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the online
streaming industry compared to its competitors. Netflix s
Stimulus Theory Of Classical Conditioning
CLASSICAL CONDITIONING: It is defined as The use of neutral stimulus,
originally paired with one that produce response, to generate a conditioned response.
(Pavlov, 1927)
Classical conditioning works on stimulus response principle. Behaviorists believed
that person emotional and automatic reactions are usually acquired through the
classical conditioning. To explain this phenomenon, we consider a simple example,
like the teacher in the classroom instructs the class to settle down immediately, the
class will settle down. But, then he taps the desk, the class will not settle down. He
taps the desk and asks the class to settle down. Now, next time he taps the desk and
class will settle down. The student behavior becomes conditioned and ... Show more

Stimulus stimulus theory.
Stimulus response theory: This theory includes the association of unconditioned
stimulus to the conditions stimulus within the brain and also says that there is no
role of conscious thinking in this association. This theory says that a person learn to
associate a new stimulus with the existing stimulus and then respond to the new
stimulus in the same way as it respond to the pre existing stimulus. (Rescorla, 1972)
Stimulus stimulus theory: This theory states that there is some cognitive component
that plays an important role classical conditioning and it says that S R theory is an
inadequate model.
Robert Rescorla Experiment: A psychologist Robert Rescorla explains the concept
of S R and S S theory by his experiment on rat. He considered loud noise as the US
and light as the CS for rats and the response of the rats was to stop their movement
and become freeze. He then raises the question that what would happen if rats were
habituated to the unconditioned stimulus? S R theory says that they still respond to
the conditioned stimulus but S S theory says that they would not respond to
conditioned stimulus. (Rescorla,

Zen Buddhist Religion
I went to a Zen Buddhist temple; whose origins are from Siddartha Gautama
commonly known as the Buddha. The two hour liturgy consisted of five parts:
chanting, zazen, kinhin, zazen and chanting. While I value meditation and prayer, I
found zazen difficult, thus respect and admire those who identify with Buddhist
spirituality. The beginning introduction included chanting in English and Japanese.
The Abbot, or priest began the 10 minute chanting rhythm, which all members
chanted. The esthetically pleasing chanting reminded members of oneself and the
universe. Also, one s breath flowed with the words. I had a difficult time connecting
breath with the long worded sentences. During the first 40 minute mediation, zazen,

Automatic Weapon Ban
Automatic Weapon Ban
July 20th, 2012, twelve are killed and fifty eight are injured at a movie theater in
Aurora, Colorado. The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one
hundred round magazine. An automatic weapon has no use in the United States
because all sporting events, and activities with guns can be accomplished without
automatic weapons. It is important because it limits the possibilities of events like
the shooting at the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are a good for
shooting range activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid
of automatic weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall.
People die because of the actions taken with with assault rifles. Automatic weapons
should be banned in the US because they are not needed for self defense, and they
have almost no use in recreational activities.
A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic
weapon because birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls
at once. A person would only need one of these shots because it has a good radius.
Inside a home, it is all close quarters, which removes the use of a long range weapon
like an automatic rifle. It is better to have a gun that shoots a radius of projectiles to
protect yourself. James D. Torr. stated, A gun is used for protection in less than two
percent of home invasion crimes (web). An automatic weapon would not be as
efficient because it only

Batman And Superman Similarities
To people that have comic book illiteracy, Batman and Superman would seem like
they would be pretty similar to each other, which is true but only to a degree. They
have similar names, outfits, and both live two different lives, etc. On the other hand,
when it comes down to what makes these two men special, they are polar opposites.
They have differences in backgrounds, powers, motivations, and in what makes them
popular among fans. Despite their similarities in outward appearances, Batmanand
Supermanare exceedingly distinct from one another. Batman and Superman are
poles apart, but, when it comes to certain aspects of their lives, they can be found to
be similar. Both Batman and Superman are extremely popular comic book
superheroes who have had multiple television shows and movies made about them.
Batman and Superman show up at similar times in the comic book world and are
published in the same comic book brand: DC Comics. Moreover, they both have
superherocostumes and despite the color themes, the costumes follow the pattern of
having their logo on their chest followed with a cape in the back. They are also alike
in terms of their secret identities. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne and Superman is
actually Clark Kent and they both live normal lives when they are not out saving
them. Both of these characters have childhoods where both men did not know their
parents very well because their parents died when they were young, making both of
them orphans. When they start
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Cisc
There has always been an age old debate over the advantages and disadvantages of a
Reduced Instruction Set Computer(RISC) in contrast to its predecessor a Complex
Instruction Set Computer(CISC). These processors differ vastly in structure, methods
of execution and usability. RISC is a Central Processing Unit(CPU) design strategy
that uses simpler, smaller instruction sets resulting in faster performance speeds. It
has an assembly languagethat is designed so that each task is broken down into very
simple instructions that are each executed once per clock cycle. In comparison CISC
is a CPU design strategy based on single instructions, which are capable of
performing multi step operations but unfortunately has a slower clock speed. The

In recent years, it has become very common to hear the words HLL (high level
language) in any computer environment. The only disadvantage with HLL is that
computers are not able to understand it, hence one must transform this language into
something a computer can easily read and understand i.e.) Machine Language. A
compiler in CISC and RISC is simply a system software that transforms HLL into
machine code. It also performs diagnostics, for example error detection. RISC
(Reduced Instruction Set Computer) is a Central Processing Unit(CPU) design
strategy that has an assembly language that is designed so that each task is broken
down into very simple instructions that are each executed once per clock cycle.
This processor simplifies the compiler design by using identical general purpose
registers which allows any register to be used in any context. Within RISC, HLL
compilers can produce a far more efficient code due to its overall small set of
instructions. The performance of the RISC processors depends mostly on the
compiler or programmer as the knowledge of the compiler plays a major role while
converting the CISC code to a RISC code; hence, the quality of the generated code
depends on the

Plastic surgery is a massive thing. Not only does it change the way God made you,
but there are also things that could go wrong in the midst of everything, just like the

Sure, you could just do it the easy and boring way and just read the ingredients. Or,
you can do the more fun way by separating the dyes using space sand. Space sand is
waterproof sand. The purpose of this experiment is telling what colors make up the
grape soda by using the grape soda, instilled water, and 70% isopropyl alcohol to
watch the dyes separate when the mixture passes thru the space sand. The reason
why I m doing this experiment is because I m generally interested in how sand can
be used as a filter. When I thought of this project, I was brainstorming the things I
saw on science buddies, and two ideas came to be one. Hypothesis In... Show more

dyes of grape soda using space sand?). The entirety of the Procedures. My
independent variable are the space sand and my dependent variable is the dyes of

hypothesis and it turned out to be right. Nothing really went wrong in my
experiment, but there were some inconsistencies. As you can see in the first line of
the graph it is illustrated that color came off more of the red hues. The results for the
1st Fraction (or pass through the sand) were consistent and turned out as expected.
The light brown hue indicated that the sand had separated some of the color/dye. The

Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s The Surety Of Fools
Voltaire once said, Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is an absurd one.
We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that
people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this
is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman
provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity.
These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality
there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with
the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from
people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it
really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other
fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that uncertainty
grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention
that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman
argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to
doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so
they do not have time to question their explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to
mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his
essay by describing his experience in evaluating
A Place To Speak
Melinda is a young girl with many difficult things happening at this stage in her
life. She needs a place of peace for her to relax in and let all her feelings float away
while listening to her favorite music. Somewhere that will get the creative juices
flowing with her own little twist in every corner. A place where the stuffed animals
come alive, and the sculptures look for items to improve their own appearance. A
judgement free zone to let everything free such as thoughts, feelings, emotions, and
creativity. A place where everyone can speak their mind and trust nothing bad will
come out of speaking up. One room split into 4 different sections for each emotionshe

Two shelves of old stuffed animals sitting and watching from above the windows.
A closet full of the clothes that make her blend into the crowd like a ghost. The
clothes that made her known as that girl who busted the party. A trip to the past
every second, she sits in her bed drifting back into the past each night just to remind
her that a new beginning is here, and nothing else will take her down. This room
was her for the hardest parts of her life. The place where everything was fought from
the aftermath of the rape, to the pain of losing her friends, and the feeling that no one
was ever going to understand. The same pillow used to cover her head on nights
with overbearing yelling from her parents, or thoughts pounding her head. This
was a room of remembrance of everything she made it through, and the courage she
built up during it. In the middle of it all, a place of decisions. One room with white
walls and plain wood floors. A place for her to clear her mind, and decide the
destiny she wants to enter into that day. A view into each room making each day a

with something intriguing and original to her own. She spins in circles everyday

Music Concert Review Sample
Before attending this concert, I was a little skeptical about it because I am not one
for loud and crowded places. I know, I know, why would you go to a Christian rock
concert if you don t like loud places, but it was all that was available to fit my busy
work schedule. To my surprise, I actually really enjoyed the concert, and it wasn t at
all what I was expecting it to be. The concert that I attended this go around was
called Rock Fest 2018 which was held at GenXaret in Columbia, MD and the tickets
were $20.00 a piece, and totally worth every penny spent.
Now that we are at the end of this course, I can say that I have learned so much
throughout this eight weeks. Not only have I learned about the structure of music and
the different components ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since this was a Christian rock concert I can easily agree that many of the
characteristics of rock and roll music which are discussed in the text book were
definitely prominent in this concert. First, was the use of the drums, each of the
different bands had a designated drummer who was the only drummer throughout the
entire performance. It was kind of interesting however, because in most performances
you don t usually see the drummer sing but when watching the band Wolves at the
Gate their drummer sang a small part in one of their songs. Next is the very heavy
use of the bass, while I through enjoyed the concert, the bass was incredible and I
definitely left the concert with a headache, but it was well worth it. With the
heavy use of the bass, I felt like I wasn t just listening to music but the bass was so
strong you could really feel it too. In bits and pieces of different songs some band
members also used a keyboard. Of course, with this being a rock concert there were
electric guitars which seemed like it was the main instrument being used. There were
also plenty of vocals, though the singing seemed more like yelling to me, I enjoyed
the instrumentation much more than the vocal parts. I really enjoyed the super
repetitive yet very catchy riffs that were being played within the music. Some songs
even had some really nice
Business Level Strategy Of The Coca Cola Company And
Pepsi
Although business level and corporate level strategies differ in scope, development,
and enforcement, they interact in the achievement of organizational goals.
Consequently, it is important to assess the best strategies that an organization should
adopt as this defines its performance both in the short term and long term. As seen in
this study, the difference in choice of strategy between the Coca Cola Company and
Pepsi define their performance, command, and dominance of the market. The
strategies adopted by a firm ought to be in line with its organizational objective sand
goals. For instance, a long term business strategy affects the performance of the firm
in the future. Therefore, a proper choice of strategy guarantees good business
performance and satisfies all the company s stakeholders.... Show more content on

In the modern and evolving business environment, business level strategy contributes
significantly to the organization s efforts to gain a competitive advantage over their
competitors. The Coca Cola Company is one of the firms operating in international
markets, which face fierce competition from their competitors. Its main competitor is
the Pepsi Company, with others including Groupe Danone, Kraft Foods, and Dr.
Pepper Snapple Group Incorporated among others (Rao, Rao, Sivaramakrishna,
2008). Moreover, the firm has to address significant threats, including health
concerns, which are an emerging trend in the beverages industry. These concerns
pose a great challenge for the beverage producing firm, and particularly the Coca
Cola Company. For this reason, the company has launched a series of strategies to
counter these

BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY Education is generally accepted as a major
source of development of any civilised society. Francis Bacon in his words said
Crafty men condemn studies; simple men admire them, and wise men use them . The
importance of education to the development of the society has made all concerned
stakeholders to be interested in its administration, planning and dissemination to the
entire populace. Religious missionaries, most especially Christian missionaries were
the fore runners of western education in Nigeria. Education was used by those
organisations as tool for grassroot evangelism as well as public enlightenment.
Muslim communities were faced with challenges of getting their children educated in
western way without getting them converted into Christianity. Various Muslim
organisations rose up to this challenge lately by establishing formal western oriented
schools. Muslims are enjoined by Prophet Muhammed to seek for knowledge from
the cradle to the grave ; and even go in quest of knowledge even unto china (edge of
the earth) Various Muslim organisations realized this call to tackle the challenges
facing Muslim children in the path of obtaining western (formal) education. For
instance, Ansar Ud Deen Society of Nigeria, Ahmadiyya Muslim Society of Nigeria,

Sardonicus, Gospel According To Mark And Blood Disease
In literature, themes and conflicts are what make a story so special, as they incite
the reader s attention and curiosity. Gothic literature is no different, as gothic
stories tend to have more depth in their themes and deeper conflicts. This essay
will examine the conflicts of the stories Sardonicus, Gospel According to Mark and
Blood Disease, as well as their purposes in the story. In Ray Russell s story,
Sardonicus, the main conflict is love between two individuals, as well as love with
oneself. Sardonicus, a protagonist, is at the center of this conflict; he loved his wife,
Maude, as seen when he says you perhaps would say I fell in love with her (Baldick
456), and put the love for himself over his love for her. At first, his love for... Show

In this story, many different medical terms are mentioned, such as anemia and
malaria, and how they affected characters in the story. The protagonist, Congo Bill,
experienced multiple known symptoms of malaria, such as weakness, vomiting,
cough, diarrhea (WHO 149). Also, his pale figure is also scientifically proven;
pale skin is due to low oxygen levels in the body caused by the malaria (EB
Medicine 4). However, the anemic characters in the story, like Kevin Pander and
the others at the Blue Bat Inn, displayed some uncharacteristic vampire like
behaviors. As mentioned by Ronald Dexter, an individual in the story, I shall be
set upon by vampires (Baldick 504). This foreshadows what is to come as
vampires tend to kill their victims by sucking out their blood. Also, in connection
to the vampire theme, the author chose to name the motel Blue Bat inn, where
bats are a symbol for vampires. Ronald refers to them as vampires due to their
disease, anemia. Anemics have a low red blood cell count, which causes them to
get weaker. Their craving for fresh blood is explained by their vampirism: in order
to stay alive, they need to consume fresh blood. However, drinking blood has no
scientific evidence of it being a cure or a remedy(Robson). On the contrary, if blood
is ingested, just as any other liquid, it will be digested. Thus, this incites a scientific
phenomenon that cannot be explained. The lingering mystery lies in how these
individuals remain alive after more than 5 years of taking in blood in an unscientific
manner. Moreover, the mystery of the monkey also remains unexplainable. While
reading, we assume that the flea that jumped from the monkey to Frank transported
malaria and left its host after its death from said disease. However, at the end of the
story, the monkey came back to life and left with the little girl carrying him. There is
a possibility that the tic turned

Essay On The Yellow Wallpaper

  • 1. Essay On The Yellow Wallpaper Crafting an essay on "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a multifaceted task that demands a delicate balance of literary analysis, critical thinking, and the ability to delve into the intricate layers of the narrative. This seminal work by Charlotte Perkins Gilman explores complex themes such as mental illness, gender roles, and societal constraints, making it a challenging canvas for interpretation. The intricacies of the protagonist's descent into madness, coupled with the symbolic significance of the yellow wallpaper itself, necessitate a keen understanding of literary devices and a nuanced approach to textual analysis. One must navigate the subtle nuances of Gilman's writing style, capturing the essence of her deliberate choices in language, imagery, and symbolism. Moreover, the essay should transcend mere summary and delve into the broader socio-cultural context of the time when the story was written. This requires research into the late 19th-century attitudes towards mental health, prevailing notions of femininity, and the societal expectations imposed on women during that era. The interpretative nature of the task means that each essayist must grapple with their own unique perspective on the text. The challenge lies in constructing a coherent and persuasive argument while respecting the ambiguity and open-endedness intentionally embedded within the narrative. In conclusion, composing an essay on "The Yellow Wallpaper" entails a journey into the intricacies of literature, psychology, and societal norms. It demands not only a meticulous understanding of the text but also the ability to synthesize information and present a compelling interpretation. It is an undertaking that requires time, dedication, and a genuine appreciation for the complexities woven into this classic work. • 2. Music Therapy ( Mt ) For most, music plays an integral role in life. Whether it s putting a playlist on to get hyped up for a daily workout, or shuffling through an Adele album to get through a bad break up. In short, music is connected to our mood. Henceforth, it should come as no surprise that music therapy (MT) has been used in various forms of rehab, specifically in terms of AutismSpectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is a condition masked with impairments to social functioning, speech, and language along with unusual behaviors such as fixations and repetitive movements (Boso et al., 2007). Therapy associated with ASD has usually been associated with speech fixation therapy or occupational and physical activity/challenged based therapy, to name a few, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a study conducted by LaGasse in 2004 looked to measure the effect of music therapy when conducted as a group to see if the social skills of children with ASD would change, compared to a regular social skills group. The study employed seventeen participants with an age range of 6 to 9 years old. The groups engaged in 10 sessions, twice a week, with a schedule of a welcome exercise, followed by a rotation of sensory and social experiences and finally ended with a farewell exercise. The social experiences specifically looked at promoting eye contact, communication and joint attention (LaGasse, 2014). Exercises included passing a ball amongst the group, board games, and telling of jokes to the group. The experience of music to half of the groups was done in a way that would be similar to the nonmusical groups, such as music making instead of play a game or using music to help complete a social interaction (LaGasse, 2014). Results found that specifically after finishing all ten sessions, parents of children who received music based therapy reported large increases in not only eye contact situations, but also in length of time. While eye gaze did increase overall, LaGasse found that it increased among peers but decreased amongst adults, explaining it could be due to the facilitators shifting for a more peer to peer interaction. Results from LaGasse s study were able to show initial evidence those social skills such as joint attention and eye contact could be

Mr Utterson is shocked at what kind of a person Dr Jekyll has become, because Mr Utterson thinks Dr Jekyll has forged a letter to protect a murderer. When people meet or see Mr Hyde they are shocked by his appearance. His appearance is said to be evil: He is not easy to describe. There is something wrong with his appearance, something downright detestable, I never saw a man I so disliked, and yet I scarce know why. He must be deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn t specify the point. He s an extraordinary looking man, and yet I really can name nothing of the way. The quote conveys that one can t understand why Hyde is described until he is seen. Dr Jekyll goes pale at the thought of Mr Hyde: The large handsome face of Dr Jekyll grew pale to the very lips, and there came a blackness about his eyes, I do not care to hear more. This shows that Dr Jekyll doesn t like to hear about evil Mr Hyde, which suggests the two are opposites. A blackness about his eyes is mentioned, the word blackness seems to imply evil. Mr Hyde is described like an animal: And the next moment, with ape like fury, he was trampling his victim under foot, and hailing down a storm of blows, under which the bones were audibly shattered and the body jumped on the roadway. This contrasts to Dr Jekyll s composure. Hyde is

The surface area to volume ratio in living organisms is very important. Nutrients and oxygen need to diffuse through the cell membrane and into the cells. Most cells are no longer than 1mm in diameter because small cells enable nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell quickly and allow waste to diffuse out of the cell quickly. Legislation and Incarceration in United States Legislation and Incarceration (Order #A2068178) The incarceration rate in the United States has steadily risen since 1973, and Franklin Zimring has examined the relationship between penal legislation and the incarceration rate. He has discovered three distinct periods which demonstrate three differences in the way legislation effects penal practices. During the first period in which there was a major rise in incarceration rates, 1973 1985, Zimring asserted that there was no relationship between penal legislation and the increase in incarceration rates. However, in the second period, from 1985 1993, the government s War on Drugs, and the subsequent legislation designed to increase sentences for drug related activities, there was a distinct relationship between penal legislation and incarceration rates. But in the final period, 1993 2002, Zimring concluded that penal legislation has not only had an influence on incarceration rates, but that this influence has demonstrably increased. In other words, over the last generation, the influence that penal legislation plays on incarceration rates has increased from practically nothing into a major influence. Because the United States has fifty individual states, each proscribed by the Constitution to be responsible for its own criminal justice system, there are a large number of individual legal jurisdictions. And this many jurisdictions would lead many to believe that there is not a uniform set of principles that guides

First Day After Thanksgiving Research Paper The next day after Thanksgiving, which always is on the fourth Thursday of November, is called Black Friday and it usually marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. It has come to be known as the busiest shopping day of the year. The origin of this phrase has its roots in the 20th century. The first mention of Black Friday appeared for the first time in 1951 in a newspaper referring to the habit of workers to call in sick after thanksgiving, in order to earn a four day weekend. After approximately 10 years, the term has come to be used by the Philadelphia police to describe the chaos caused by pedestrians, shoppers and traffic jams on the day after Thanksgiving. As we mentioned already, this event is branded as the beginning of the holiday shopping season, since Christmas is the next major holiday after Thanksgiving. In the United States of America, in the bigger cities, on Thanksgiving Day there are parades where people gather to see the balloons, performances and marching bands. One of the most dominant symbols in the play is the fire escape. It represents something different for each of the characters. Tom uses the fire escape to escape from his cramped apartment and nagging mother. Therefore, the fire escape symbolizes a path to the outside world. Later though, Tom looks at the pieces of colored glass, like bits of a shattered rainbow , which represents Laura s broken hopes and dreams. He recalls his father as a telephone man who fell in love with long distances . Terrified of the might of Charlemagne s army, Marsile promises treasures, hostages and his conversion to Christianity if the Frankswill go back to France. However, Marsile has no intention of surrendering and wants only for Charlemagne to end his siege of the city and get out of Spain. • 25. Classroom Space Impact On Students And The Overall... There have been a number of studies done to show how the amount of space that is available in a classroom can have an effect on the behavior of the students and the overall environment of the classroom. In 2003, Duncanson found that classroom space impacts how teachers and students behave. He found that classrooms with small amounts of space were prone to have inefficient pathways and look cluttered. In part, it was found that this situation was caused by the large amount of room teachers reserved for their own use and the large amount of space covered by other pieces of furniture. The arrangement of the furniture hampered the natural flow patterns and created small open spaces for students to work. Thus teachers more or less identified and assigned the spaces that were to be used by students while working on an activity (Duncanson, 2003). The ideal classroom is one where there are minimal distractions to learning, focused attention on classroom discussions and positive learning about critical subject material. With this in mind, it is important to understand what causes misbehavior and what can be done to limit it. Misbehavior must be taken in context however, since one must look at the situation and instructor to determine if a particular action falls in the misbehavior category. For example, walking around during a math lesson would be unacceptable, but walking around in a pottery class would be expected (Burden, 1995). In one study by Tiirkniiklii Galton (2001),
  • 26. Counterbalance In Lord Of The Flies By Zuckoff The book 13 HOURS uses a long list of literary elements but the most important element would have to be theme. The theme of the book is counterbalance and it is represented as Yin Yang. As stated in the book, Yin Yang is a Chinese concept that a connection exists between seemingly opposing forces, like dark and light, life and death (Zuckoff 5). Obviously, counterbalance is an important part of nature and therefore, the book shows the importance it has. Yin Yang is introduced by the character Jack Silva, who is a former Navy SEAL and learns about the Chinese concept while training to be a Navy SEAL. By the time he finished SEAL training, Jack came to appreciate the yin and yang of what he d experienced the previous two years (Zuckoff 15). Consequently, Jack decides to become a GRS agent because he loves what he does in the military and he feels that he needs to keep serving his country and the counterbalance comes in to play. If challenge and money were the yin, danger was the yang (Zuckoff 17). The previous quote can also be interpreted as high risk for a high reward.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first Jack is very serious and knows he is going in to a dangerous territory but, then he feels happy because he is going somewhere new while doing what he loves and then he transitions his focus onto his family and thinks if he is going to see them ever again. Those mixed emotions are a display of the counterbalance or as described in the book as the Yin Yang. First was excitement: I wonder what adventures this place is going to bring. Then came its counterbalance, worry: I wonder if It ll ever see my family again (Zuckoff

He undertook pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela (1154 55), the Grande Chartreuse (1162 63), and to Canterbury (1179). Because of a disputed papal election, Alexander III sought refuge in France in 1162, where he received Louis s welcome. Louis s protection of Thomas Becket, who had fled to France in 1164 to escape the wrath of Henry II, received widespread approval. Louis asserted his rights over the French church, especially regarding episcopal elections in his realm and control over royal churches. To provide continual support for his royal policies, elections to royal bishoprics often went to members of the king s own household or to families loyal to Capetian interests. Plato on the Parthenon Essay Plato on the Parthenon The philosophical ideas of Plato that relate to the Parthenon include whether the structure is an element of the Visible World or the Intelligible World. In my opinion, Plato would view the Parthenon as an object in the Visible World. The Parthenon is a one of a kind monument that is tangible and exists in our real world. The Parthenon is an architectural project and deals with forms of science and mathematics. Plato s view of science and mathematics are categorized as forms in the Intelligible World, which are intangible. The rectangular shape of The Parthenon was derived from the Golden Ratio of 5:8, which can be seen in some flowers and nautilus seashells. The drums of The Parthenon?s columns also have natural characteristics. Their diameter is similar to the height of man. Plato?s view of compensation making The Parthenon ?less real? can be contradicted with the nature based models that were used to construct it. Plato?s view of Justice can be seen in his model of The Tripartite Soul. In this model Plato outlines 3 sectors of his ideal society. This theoretical society is composed of Guardians, Auxiliaries, and Producers. The Guardians were the upper class citizens who had the authority to pass judgment. Guardians were rational and wise, and could participate and become involved in politics. The Auxiliaries were positioned as courageous citizens who helped preserve the spirit and emotion of a society by ?protecting and serving? much like a modern day public works department or police and fire squad. In the lowest tier of Plato?s ideal society were the Producers, whose job it was to create. The Producers were to use temperance in their lives, for they were classified as appetitive souls who could easily succumb to bodily desires. The Producers were to practice asceticism, which is the eradication of bodily desires. Relating to The Parthenon, the

The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one hundred round magazine. It is important because it limits the possibilities of events like the shooting at the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are a good for shooting range activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid of automatic weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall. Automatic weapons should be banned in the US because they are not needed for self defense, and they have almost no use in recreational activities. A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic weapon because birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls at once. We live in a world that is constantly changing and does not grant the certainty that people desire. But, people want the stability of knowing what is going to happen; this is why certainty is absurd. In his essay The Surety of Fools, Daniel Kahneman provides examples of people using a phenomenon he calls the illusion of validity. These people strongly believe their actions cause a specific outcome, when in reality there is statistical evidence that shows their actions have no direct correlation with the outcome. While Kahneman argues the illusion of validity comes partially from people s tendency to make quick decisions without fully conveying the causes, it really stems from people s fear of uncertainty from having a lack of knowledge. Other fields of academia, such as science and economics, have admitted that uncertainty grounds their thinking processes. Kahneman is inaccurate in neglecting to mention that it is the fear of uncertainty that really causes the illusion of validity. Kahneman argues that the illusion of validity comes from fast thinking because it is prone to doubt. Meaning, people naturally think quickly because they need a reason and so they do not have time to question their explanation. However, Kahneman neglects to mention that fast thinking roots itself in the fear of uncertainty. Kahneman begins his essay by describing his experience in evaluating

Next is the very heavy use of the bass, while I through enjoyed the concert, the bass was incredible and I definitely left the concert with a headache, but it was well worth it. With the heavy use of the bass, I felt like I wasn t just listening to music but the bass was so strong you could really feel it too. In bits and pieces of different songs some band members also used a keyboard. Of course, with this being a rock concert there were electric guitars which seemed like it was the main instrument being used. There were also plenty of vocals, though the singing seemed more like yelling to me, I enjoyed the instrumentation much more than the vocal parts. I really enjoyed the super repetitive yet very catchy riffs that were being played within the music. Some songs even had some really nice

Gothic literature is no different, as gothic stories tend to have more depth in their themes and deeper conflicts. This essay will examine the conflicts of the stories Sardonicus, Gospel According to Mark and Blood Disease, as well as their purposes in the story. In Ray Russell s story, Sardonicus, the main conflict is love between two individuals, as well as love with oneself. Sardonicus, a protagonist, is at the center of this conflict; he loved his wife, Maude, as seen when he says you perhaps would say I fell in love with her (Baldick 456), and put the love for himself over his love for her. In this story, many different medical terms are mentioned, such as anemia and malaria, and how they affected characters in the story. The protagonist, Congo Bill, experienced multiple known symptoms of malaria, such as weakness, vomiting, cough, diarrhea (WHO 149). Also, his pale figure is also scientifically proven; pale skin is due to low oxygen levels in the body caused by the malaria (EB Medicine 4). However, the anemic characters in the story, like Kevin Pander and the others at the Blue Bat Inn, displayed some uncharacteristic vampire like behaviors. As mentioned by Ronald Dexter, an individual in the story, I shall be set upon by vampires (Baldick 504). This foreshadows what is to come as vampires tend to kill their victims by sucking out their blood. Also, in connection to the vampire theme, the author chose to name the motel Blue Bat inn, where bats are a symbol for vampires. Ronald refers to them as vampires due to their disease, anemia. Anemics have a low red blood cell count, which causes them to get weaker. Their craving for fresh blood is explained by their vampirism: in order to stay alive, they need to consume fresh blood. However, drinking blood has no scientific evidence of it being a cure or a remedy(Robson). On the contrary, if blood is ingested, just as any other liquid, it will be digested. Thus, this incites a scientific phenomenon that cannot be explained. The lingering mystery lies in how these individuals remain alive after more than 5 years of taking in blood in an unscientific manner. Moreover, the mystery of the monkey also remains unexplainable. While reading, we assume that the flea that jumped from the monkey to Frank transported malaria and left its host after its death from said disease. However, at the end of the story, the monkey came back to life and left with the little girl carrying him. There is a possibility that the tic turned
