Ozymandias Poem Essay
Crafting an essay on the "Ozymandias" poem can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a delicate
balance of literary analysis, historical context, and personal interpretation. The poem, penned by
Percy Bysshe Shelley, is a complex work that delves into themes of power, transience, and the
inevitable decay of human accomplishments.
To begin with, understanding the nuances of Shelley's language and the vivid imagery he
employs is crucial. Unraveling the layers of meaning embedded in the words demands a keen
literary eye and a profound appreciation for poetic devices. One must navigate through the
sonnet's structure, meter, and rhyme scheme to unravel the subtle messages woven into its fabric.
Moreover, a comprehensive exploration of historical and cultural contexts is indispensable.
Investigating the circumstances that inspired Shelley to write "Ozymandias" provides depth to
the analysis. Unveiling the political and social climate of the time aids in grasping the poet's
intent and the underlying critique of power and hubris.
The challenge intensifies when attempting to offer a unique perspective on a poem that has been
dissected and analyzed by scholars for centuries. Crafting an original argument or shedding new
light on familiar interpretations requires creativity and a deep understanding of the existing
discourse surrounding the poem.
Assembling these elements into a coherent and well-structured essay poses another hurdle.
Balancing the introduction, body, and conclusion while maintaining a fluid narrative that
engages the reader is an art in itself. The writer must ensure that each paragraph contributes
meaningfully to the overall thesis, guiding the reader through a thoughtful exploration of the
poem.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the "Ozymandias" poem is no simple task. It demands a
fusion of literary acumen, historical insight, and analytical prowess. Successfully navigating
these challenges, however, can result in a rewarding exploration of Shelley's masterpiece. If
grappling with such complexities seems daunting, assistance is available. Similar essays and more

Polar Bear Environmental Impact
Throughout history, humans have modified their environment to suit their needs,
such as housing, agriculture, and industry, but we are now seeing major changes to
the environment on a scale not witnessed before. The greenhouse effect has run
rampant through man s use of fossil fuels and is causing major changes to the
planet, many unseen by people not directly affected. Human overuse of dirty
energies that produce CO2 has led to shrinking Arctic ice and warmer temperatures
that cause disruption for the animals and people who live there. Glaciers, in places
such as Iceland and Canada, and the Arctic ice sheet are melting, breeding seasons
are changing, and people and animals are being displaced (Greene et. al., 2008).
Some changes have been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The frequency of long distance swims in the polar bear population is increasing,
beginning in late spring as the sea ice starts melting, when the bears migrate from
the sea ice to land or offshore pack ice (Pilfold et. al. 2017). Warmer temperatures
are causing ice to become much thinner and more mobile. Instead of walking on a
consolidated sea ice surface, polar bears may be forced to undertake long distance
swims to complete their migratory route (Pilfold et. al. :190, 2017). Since polar
bears are not pack animals, the effects of climate change on migratory behavior can
vary greatly between individual, and, therefore, this study compares male and
female adults and male and female subadults. Subadults of both sexes swam as
much as an adult female did, but adult females with cubs were less likely to swim
than the other age classes (Pilfold et. al. 2017). The swims are also made in
correlation to the ice; there is a positive relation in the distance of the ice from land
and the rate in which it retreated with the frequency of swims. Most swims were
made before the ice had reached its minimum, and when it expands again, the bears
track its movement toward the continental shelf (Pilfold et. al.
Ns The National Security Agency
USA Today confirms: the National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the
phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT T,
Verizon and BellSouth. With access to records of billions of domestic calls, the NSA
has gained a secret window into the communications habits of millions of Americans.
(Opsahl 28 Sep. 2013) It s no secret that the U.S. government agency known as the
NSA, National Security Agency, has been monitoring phone calls and Internet usage
of United Statescitizens since the early 2000 s during George W. Bush s time in
office. During his presidency, Bush authorized the motorization of millions of
citizen s phone calls. (Tebbutt 25 Sep. 2013) The NSA created a secret program
called The Highlander Program which was designed to monitor satellite phone
transmissions on the Inmarsat network in the Middle East. During this secret
program, the NSA did not monitor any United States citizens. Bush claimed the
surveillance was limited to the al Qaeda, but that simply was not the case.
(Forgang 27 Sep. 2013) Does the United States government have the right to listen
in on civilian s phone calls regardless of the reason? As seen in the media, most
citizens don t want the NSA to be listening in on their calls and other forms of
communication. In Samuel Greengard s magazine article, Spies Among Us, he
explains, The boundary between protection and privacy has always been fuzzy.
(Greengard 27 Sep. 2013) The point he is offering is
Summary Of How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents
The utilization of style makes How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia
Alvarez an arduous book to read. John s right hand played piano on her ribs, and
his mouth blew a piccolo on her, Alvarez writes, using metaphor to describe a sex
scene between Yolanda and her husband, John (76). The author s vivid description
is frivolous and supports neither the plot nor the specific event within the story.
Next, Alvarez s syntax is emphasized in the excerpt: The hills begin to plane out
into a high plateau, and the road widens. Left and right, roadside stands begin
appearing. Yolanda keeps an eye out for guavas. Piled high on wooden stands are
fruits Yolanda hasn t seen in years: pinkish yellow mangoes, and tamarind pods
oozing their rich sap, and small cashew fruits strung on a rope to keep them from
bruising each other. Strips of meat, buzzing with flies, hang from the windows of
butcher stalls (Alvarez 13). The elongated wording and imagery of How The
Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents takes a detour from the actual plot, which makes
the book difficult to comprehend. In addition, Alvarez applies symbolism by using
the quote: These baby monkeys were kept in a cage so long, they wouldn t come
out when the doors were finally left open. Instead they stayed inside and poked
their arms through the bars for their food, just out of reach (149). The Garcia girls
will always be tied to the Dominican Republic just like how the monkeys are with the
cage. The example of symbolism
Family Traditions For Dysfunctional Families Essay
Family Traditions for Dysfunctional Families In todays world there are at least 1
Billion families. Which means there has to be at least 1 Billion family traditions.
Family traditions can be many different things but my family traditions all can relate
back to dysfunctionalism. There are more dysfunctional families in the united states
than normal families. More than 50% of happiness comes from dysfunctional
families and still, the celebrate Birthdays, Religious Holidays and Casual Holidays .
Can you imagine Holidays being the root of our happiness. What is a dysfunctional
family? A dysfunctional familyis where the relationship between the parent and child
are strained and unnatural (Artical 1). Dysfunctional families can range from many
different things such as failing to be a provider for their child or lack of emotional,
phychological and/or physical needs. There are also different types of dysfunctional
families. Dysfunctional families can be because of addiction, alcohol, no emotional
support, religious fundamentalism and rigidly dogmatic beliefs, overly possessive
parents and sexaul abuse.
First on the list is Birthday. Every year this day is celebrated with cake and gifts.
Sure, this seems casual but something makes it different. Once the kid reaches 18
whom ever brough them cakes, the 18 year old has to buy them for that person for
18 years. Crazy right? Well that is just the way things go. Another tradion that we
celebrate on birthday is the cutting of the
The s First Appearance On The Show Meyer Lansky
In his first appearance on the show Meyer Lansky gives a very earnst and well
worded but fake business proposal, forces someone to shake his hand (and thus
acknowledge him) and muses on the future importance of the petrol industry, all of
which allow for a good character defining moment. His main motivation and driving
force through out the series is his own ambition to gain money, power and respect.
While it s not not hard to connect this ambition to a childhood of poverty and ethnic
oppression, it goes even deeper than that: in 1931 Lansky has achieved more than he
could have dreamed of as a child and yet still looks to take even more Atlantic City,
the Commission, etc. etc. There s an undercurrent of nothing is enough with Meyer

In late season one, Jimmy (another gangster) ties him up and threatens him with a
gun a few months later Meyer has absolutely no problem going into business with
him. After Rothstein s betrayal Charlie is enraged but Meyer is the one who
recognizes that continuing to push A.R. will lead to nothing but their deaths, even
telling Rothstein he understands his actions. This pragmatism and desire for
professionalism is present even in Meyer s personal relationships his friendship
with Charlie Luciano is somewhat unique, as the gangsters generally tend to stick
to people within their own ethnicity (and Charlie is Italian) but first and foremost it
s a lucrative partnership. Even the way they met is good example of this Charlie
and his gang would ambush Meyer on his way to school, demanding he give them
their money. Meyer would spit on them and refuse to give in and in exchange they
would beat him up. After a few days of this Charlie asked him to join his gang and
they have been partners in crime ever since. During the show Meyer is generally
shown as the book keeper and organizer of his and Charlie s operation and as such
there is no denying his intelligence and keen sense of business. He is methodical and
meticulous in his approach to crime, keeping track of every action (sales, purchase,
murder, bribery..) in a neat little notebook. He researches his
For The Year Ended 30 June 2015 And June 2016,
Wesfarmers
For the year ended 30 June 2015 and June 2016, Wesfarmers current assets were
consistently at 0.93 times larger than it current liabilities, this is 0.05 times higher
than the industry average of 0.88 as shown in Appendix V Wesfarmers Ltd Industry
Averages. Thus, Wesfarmers current ratio is not out of line with the current ratios of
many of the company s in its industry. This gives the indication that Wesfarmers
should not have any trouble paying its debts for the next twelve (12) months, as its
current liabilities are less than its current assets. However, for the year ended 30
June 2015 and June 2016, Woolworths is 0.05 times below the industry average as

Profitability
Financial ratios reflects the level of the company s profit relative to sales (Titan,
2012, p. 151). In other words, this is a company s capability of generating profits
from its operations. Profitability is one of four building blocks for analysing financial
statements and company performance as a whole. The balance sheet contains assets
that the business owns and which is used in the business for the purpose of
generating profit (Jessop, 2017). See Appendix A, figure II. To determine profitability
for Wesfarmers, we will look at the Net Profit Margin, Return on Investment and the
Return on Equity using DuPont Analysis.
Net Profit Margin
The Net Profit Margin expresses the net after tax profits of an organisation as a
percentage of sales (Titan, 2012, p. 155). The net profit margin for Wesfarmers and
Woolworths is computed as follows in Table III below:

Outline Of A Health Care Administration
Outlining My Profession
Health care administration is a very important and crucial role in today s healthcare
system. With an ever changing national health care system, the role of a Health care
Administrator or Healthcare Executive more than ever is needed. Healthcare
facilities, organizations, and or offices rely on health care administrators to plan,
direct and coordinate all medical health services (United States Department of Labor
, 2014). Some areas where one might find administrators are managing entire
medical facilities, specialized clinical departments, or a medical practice for a group
of physicians (United States Department of Labor , 2014). The need for high quality
health care administers is more now than ever with the fast changing health care laws.
Administrators must be able to learn and lead when regulations and laws change
so that the medical organizations they lead are in legal working order. Finance
management of costs for the facility and patient billing to creating work schedules
are just a few of the duties and administrator is found doing on a daily basis (O*Net
Sites, 2015). It is standard for an administrator to spend part of his or her time
communicating with physicians and staff. Evaluating staff procedures along with
quality assurance helps keep medical facilities within safety guidelines so patients
get the best care possible (O*Net Sites, 2015). This being said this profession carries
a lot of responsibility to those they lead but also to
The Great Northwoods Essay
The Great Northwoods
As with all things, the history of an event does not begin at its conception. With this
in mind, it is my intention to provide the reader with a general history of events that
led to the formation of the Nicolet National Forest of northern Wisconsin. In order
to do so, I found it necessary to begin with the early explorations of such notables as
James Cartier, Samuel de Champlain, and Jean Nicolet. These French explorers
blazed a path that enabled the settling of the territories now know as Wisconsin. Men
like them embodied the new era of exploration that was gripping the European nations
with the quest for empire, trade, and the advancement of Christianity, leading the
way. In addition, attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the failure of agriculture to take a firm hold, the conservation movement led
the government to purchase large tracts of land in an effort to save what little was
left of the great forests of Wisconsin. Fires had become rampant within the region,
lives were being lost, and the government became determined to correct the
situation. I have determined that the end point of my discussion will be the years
leading up to World War II. For while the Great Depression brought about untold
suffering for many, it was actually the giver of life for the Nicolet National Forest.
People needed work, and the government was searching for ways to put them to
work. Forming and nurturing the growth of a National Forest was the ideal answer
for thousands. The years immediately proceeding World War II brought back
economic security for many, and left a legacy of many industrial accomplishments
as well as non industrial accomplishments such as the Nicolet National Forest. In
conclusion, the manner that I have chosen to write this paper was presented to me
by my sources. Of the few sources that I was able to garner dealing solely with the
Nicolet National Forest, each followed the same general outline. And, since
importance was stressed upon these areas already by established historians, I felt that
it should not be ignored.
The first major exploration that bears particular relevance to the Nicolet National
Forest begins with the exploits of James

Persuasive Essay On School Lunches
Many of us have attended school once in our life. And many of us have tasted the
dreadful school lunches that are served. Various people believe that schools need to
provide more food in a meal. Society has been conversing about the nutrious value
in a school meal and they wonder if the meat in the lunches are real or completely
fake beef . Schoollunches have become even more unacceptable and need to be re
thought for the health of the younger generations.
To start off school lunches have become more insufficient. The normal lunchmeal
consists of a protein, carb, and a vegetable. Does not sound that bad, right? Well, it
is a very small portion of each protein, carb, and vegetable. Most people s warranted

The general public think Mcdonald s meat is unhealthy, the school lunch meat is
even more sickly. A school s burger has a lot of unknown ingredients to the
everyday person and most likely is very unhealthy for anyone who eats it. People
used to believe that fast food chains were the number one reason for childhood
obesity. But after reading what Leah Segedie mentioned, society may think that
school lunches might have moved up to the main reason for obesity for the younger
generations. A school lunch has up to 26 unneeded ingredients in one school burger,
and this needs to be fixed. In addition, there is no nutritious value in a single school
lunch. Amanda Ray wrote, Processed foods that are high in fat, sugar, and salt have
become a mainstay of lunches in schools across America and the results are in,
experts say these unhealthy school lunches are a contributing factor to the childhood
obesity epidemic. This shows that school lunches are absolutely unhealthy and school
lunches has increased childhood obesity. It would be smarter if families across the
United States would pack a more natural and nutritious school lunch for their student
starting at a young age. The high in fat, sugar, or salt cause children to become

Agape Worship Center Mission Statement
The purpose of the Agape Worship Center International is to present the gospel to the
world through Love, Acceptance and Forgiveness. At Agape Worship Center there are
five distinctive core values that are established throughout Church of God
congregation: Engaging God through worship, equipping Leaders for ministry,
evangelizing our city community and the world,
Empowering people for service unto God, embracing one another in love through
fellowship and Life Groups. Agape Worship Center has a multi ethnic, multi racial
background. Our church mission statement is mirror image of our church core
values; AWCI is spirit filled ministry, a place where the people are living with
overflowing anointing, are divinely enabled to operate beyond their capacity,
beyond their strength, and beyond their vision of the future. AWCI is strategically
breaking into the marketplace, the place where we live and work, and around the
world in an effort to expand the kingdom of God for His glory. The distinct core
values were created by a group of about 8 individuals, who were the original
founders of Agape Worship Center International, established in 2006. The members
consisted of persons ranging from 30 60 years of age. In 2002, Bishop Collins held
church services from his home. In 2005 membership rocketed to 12 members, the
growth encouraged the building process for what is now known as the church sitting
on the hill, AWCI. The church s history and present ministry were taken into
consideration regarding the move to create a more effective ministry.

The Inverse Power of Praise Essay
The Inverse Power of Praise: Should We Praise Our Children?
Giving praise to our children comes naturally; most of us have done it hundreds of
times without even thinking about it. The phrases: you re so smart or, wow you
did a great job just roll off our tongue. After all who doesn t like to receive
recognition for a job well done? But by praising children, are we setting them up for
failure? Telling our kids they are smart does not keep them from underperforming, but
instead might be causing it. B.F. Skinner s work in operant conditioning showed us
the process in which behavior can be manipulated (Wood, et al, 2008, p. 155), but
Skinner didn t take into account the long term effects of such manipulation. Are we

They tend to adopt lower standards for success and ultimately settle for less as well,
(Cole et al, 1999).
Is there an inverse power of praise? New research suggests that praising your child
can have the opposite effect of its intended purpose (Dweck, 1999). For over a
decade, a researcher named Carol Dweck, has studied the effects of praise on
school aged children from twenty New York schools. Dweck and her research
assistants conducted a series of experiments on over four hundred fifth graders. The
researcher s would pull children from the classroom and have them take a nonverbal
IQ test with puzzles that were easy enough all the children would do well. After the
test the researchers told the children their score and gave them a single line of praise.
Divided into two groups at the beginning, some of the students were praised for their
intelligence with lines like, You must be smart at this. The other students received
praise for their effort You must have worked really hard. Dweck used just a single
line of praise to see how sensitive children were to this form of praise.
For the second round the students were given a choice, one choice was a test more
difficult than the first, the other, was a test just as easy as the first. The majority of
the students praised for their intelligence chose the easy test. Why did this happen?
When we praise children for their intelligence, we tell

The Effect Of Body Cameras On Use Of Force Incidents
Methods I wish to replicate the methodology utilized by Ariel, Farrer, and
Sutherland (2015). These researchers conducted a randomized controlled study
with the Rialto Police Department in California. The purpose of their study was to
observe the effects of body worn cameras on the frequency of use of force incidents
as well as citizens complaints. In my research study, I will test only the effect of
body worn cameras on use of force incidents. I propose to study the Indianapolis
Metropolitan PoliceDepartment in Indianapolis, Indiana. This research setting is a
lot larger than Ariel, Farrer, and Sutherland s study. The Rialto Police Department
covered an area of approximately 28.5 square miles, and they served a population
of approximately 100,000 residents. IMPD covers an area of approximately 364.3
square miles, and serves approximately 824,000 residents. Rialto has 115 sworn
officers whereas IMPD has 1,080 sworn officers (IMPD n.d.). I propose to divide
IMPD s six districts in half. Three districts will be the treatment group while the
other three districts will be the control group. This should be approximately 540
total officers per group. The districts will be randomly assigned to either by a
treatment or a control group, and it will change weekly. For example, the North
District may be a treatment group one week and a control group the next week. I
feel that if the department is split up and randomly assigned a group each week that
the data will be more
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hydropower Energy
2.6 Hydropower Energy Generally, hydropower is a form of energy which is called
renewable energy source where power is comes from the energy of water flowing
through from higher to lower elevations (Bureau Reclamation, 2005). Renewable
energy is defined as the energy that is produced from sources that are result from the
natural movements and mechanisms of the Earth as well as quickly replenished by it
(Thoughtful Education Press, 2008). The examples of the sources of renewable energy
are the sun, wind, and water (Thoughtful Education Press, 2008). In order to produce
electricity for the use of consumer, solar cells, wind farms, and hydroelectric power
have been used effectively (Thoughtful Education Press, 2008). According to

The World Of Assessment On The Education Community
Abstract This paper was created to explore the world of assessment issues in the
education community. This paper was focused on using state tests in order to
formally evaluate teachers. Teachers are being evaluated all the time to determine
whether they are fit to be in the classroom. This paper focuses on the issues created
by NCLB as well as race to the top. It has become a competition to have teachers get
the best state scores on tests. These scores are how we are evaluating our current and
possibly even future teachers. The use of state tests as evaluation tools has become a
stressor for teachers. Teachers are constantly striving to be the best and with the
weight of the evaluation on their shoulder, their job has become harder and even
more stressful. Using these tests to evaluate create nothing but problems for teachers,
as they do not effectively evaluate teachers and their true capabilities.
Teachers are under constant evaluation. Principals, parents and other teachers are
constantly watching and evaluating teachers to ensure that students get the best
education possible. However, what should they be effectively be basing those
evaluations on? Standardized assessments are being more involved in classrooms,
and those are the tests that teachers are being evaluated on. However, is that truly
fair to the teacher to be evaluated on such substantial state tests? No Child Left
Behind (NCLB) was implemented in 2001 and was created in order to increase

Merton s Strain Theory Of Deviance And Labelling Theory
The comparison and contrast between Merton s strain theory of deviance and
Labelling theory. In this essay, the comparison between and contrast between
strain theory and labelling theory. The essay will start with the key features of
each theory and then it will go into the main comparison of the two theories. It will
go into to detail on the similarities and differences between the two theories. Strain
theory is the theory developed in 1938 by Robert K Merton. It s the theory that
society puts pressure on people to achieve socially accepted goals. Labelling
theory is the theory that the public act in the way that society has labelled them,
which gives negative connotations towards that person. Both the theories, judge
crime on the type of people and how they have been deemed, both theories try to
explain crime from social perspectives. Labelling theory is the view of deviance
according to which being labelled as a deviant leads a person to engage in deviant
behaviour. This states that if a person were to labelled as a thief, that person would
be treated different (looked down upon). This could leave this person to do what they
are labelled as and commit theft. This is backed up with study.com s definition of
labelling theory, which states people become criminals when labelled as such and
when they accept the label as personal identity . This moves into strain theory as the

The Subculture I Choose Is Vampire Lifestyle
This essay is talk about the culture. The subculture I choose is Vampire Lifestyle. In
this essay, I will talk about the theoretical perspective, what is culture and how it
connect with counter culture, how it has been affected by the consumerism and how
it held together by the cultural capital. I choose the symbolic interactionism for my
theoretical perspective. From sociological perspective, symbolic interactionism most
concerned with the face to face interaction between members of society. Symbolic
interaction reminds us that cultureis a human creation. In society, culture consists of
the shared symbols and their definitions that people create to solve real life problems.
Culture define in many words. For example, particular patterns of behavior, the
symbol, language, and way the people things, etc. My main point is symbol. Symbol
is concert objet or abstract term. In another word, the meaning of the symbol is
something that represent something. Culture is the primary means by which human
adapt to their environment (page no.69). In reality, we create culture to solve our real
life problems. There are three survival kits for culture. They are abstraction,
cooperation and production. But, my focus is on the first two. Abstraction means
ability to create general concepts that organize sensory experience in meaningful way.
Abstraction is most pervasive type of symbol in human culture. Language is also an

I think leadership is a concept of getting to the top and staying at the top. The best
leaders are people whose personality is suited well to guide. Leadership shapes a
person into a better person in the long run. Even after you re done being a leader,
the lessons you learn from it carry with you. And once you become a leader it s not,

A Love Song Thesis
At the end of my freshman year, a couple days before summer, I realized that I
barely at all talked with any girls at all, and I needed to change something in my
life in order for me to be happier. Being one of 1650 students at an all boys school
makes it difficult to be more outgoing and stand out. One thing that I did end up
changing was the way that I carried myself, and the amount of work that I put in.
Luckily for me things changed to be in my favor, the narrator in the poem, A Love
Song by J. Alfred Prufrock and I have the same goals for women and fulfillment, but
one lacks the courage to pursue what he wants. In the Love Song, by J. Alfred
Prufrock, the narrator is completely aware of what could make him happy, but is still

Prufrock assures himself that he has enough time to do what he wants, and time
for all the works and days of hands (Eliot 27 28). In this text, Prufrock alludes to
Hesiod s Works and Days, a poem that emphasizes the importance of making life
meaningful and worthwhile, by having nothing held back in life, and living with
no regrets. Contrast to the theme of Works and Days, Prufrock lives his life
constantly regretting everything and has a meaningless life. Prufrock s pressure
to talk to women stems from wanting to seize the day and make his life fruitful and
happy, but is more comfortable not trying than having a chance of failure.
Prufrock explains how he can change his impression with a few minor changes, For
decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse (Eliot 34). In this text,
Prufrock talks about how he can reverse time in terms of his feelings, how he can
be unhappy, happy, and unhappy in seconds because of his decisions, and the
revisions of those decisions. Prufrock explains what goes through his head when
he talks about women, and how systematically he analyzes himself. Prufrock is a
man who enjoys leisure, and his approach to women is very uptight and
systematic, which is polar to his true self. Even if Prufrock makes the right
decisions and revisions in talking with women, he will not be fulfilled with that
women until he is his true, relaxed self. The narrator sets the tone of the poem To
His Coy Mistress, Had we but world enough and time (Marvell 1). Throughout the
entire poem, Prufrock consistently talks about his fading youth, and how he says
that there will be time. This talk of time and a carpe diem theme alludes to Andrew
Marvell s poem, To His Coy Mistress. Similar to the narrator,
Believer Poem Analysis
Believer The song Believer , by Imagine Dragons, they sing about how the pain and
depression, they were going through, has made him stronger than before. This song
tells us that your greatest strengths come from your weaknesses. Imagine Dragons
are trying too say that Pain and depression and sadness are only stepping stones to
your strength, in this song. Believer is about that you don t have to dwell on your
troubles and can look on the bright side of things. This song also explains that you
can become a Believer by embracing all of the problems going on in your life
today. The theme of relationships in this song is highlighted through many various
examples of similes, metaphors, and other literary devices throughout the song.
This theme is brought through the song by showing multiple literary devices.
Such as I m the one at sail, I m the master of my sea . This metaphor shows the
realization and empowerment that oneself can give in a depressing situation. This
simile Falling like ashes to the ground, Hoping my feelings they would drown
compares his feeling of sadness and depression to ashes, and wanting them to
drown and vanish, from his life. This line, All the hate that you ve heard has turned
your spirit to a dove explains how all of the hate that he has experienced and gone
through has turned his feelings around, and decided to look on the bright side of
things. Personally I think this is a great... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Three Coins In The Fountain Research
Hundreds of years ago, clean water was valued very much as it was rare and
sacred, unlike our current generation where clean water can be easily accessed in
most parts of the world. In the past, clean water was considered a gift from the
gods by many tribes across the world in areas such as Europe, Africa, and Asia. As
a matter of fact, countless people believed that deities themselves lived in the water.
Back then, presenting gifts to deities were ancient practices generally done to
appease an angry god or as payment for requests and prayer to the god. As a result,
whenever watering holes were discovered, people threw money into the water in
order to show gratitude for the clean water as well as to ensure the continuance of the
precious water. And that, my fellow classmates, is how the superstition of tossing
coins into fountains and wells had begun. Most people around the world today no
longer worry or think twice about lacking clean water. But despite that, the tradition
of throwing coins into wells and fountains still exist. This is because the purpose of
throwing coins into wells and fountains have changed. Even though the superstition
simply started out to thank the deities for the gift of drinkable water, that was not...

The Veldt Technology
Having everything done for you seems like a really good idea. Technology has
made this possible, but it s really not at all what we would expect. In the past, there
were inventions to help humans along their way to living a simple life; but do we
really want that, a very simple life, so simple that we will get bored around the
house and our things will be done by someone else, or maybe even by something
else? Do we want our things, our chores or our work to be done by... computers or
technology? In the short story, The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, inventions that would
seem unimaginable or even impossible for us today have a very big impact on the
characters lives. For the Hadley family, these impacts make them spoiled, lazy,

Lydia acknowledges this and that she doesn t belong in the house I feel like I don t

shut off the whole house, Live sort of a carefree one for all existence. (p.125). The
kids obviously don t want that and so they think of getting rid of their boring, old
parents that don t listen to them. They ask themselves how they got in this mess and
what prompted them to buy a nightmare and come up with the idea that it was pride,
money and foolishness (p.129). They thought that because they have money, they
should buy this mad man house.
Ray Bradbury is telling us that he does not like technology. To make his point, he
makes up a futuristic world where people are just useless, lazy and boring. He
makes up houses that serve as wife and mother now and nursemaid. (p.119). He
really wants us to see that technology, abused, is actually not as good as everyone
would imagine. When the Hadleys buy the house and the nursery, they actually buy
their own ticket to death. They might not know it, but it s true. Bradbury warns us
that children should never be exposed to that kind of technology because of the
outcome it can have

Analysis Of The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
Travelling to the year 802,701 presents a world where human intelligence has
declined and species have simplified. The time traveller recounts his experiences in
this changed world. The two species, the Eloi and the Morlocks, represent the way
humans from Wells s time have evolved. In H.G. Wells s renowned book, The Time
Machine, Wells conveys his ideas of the future of mankind while simultaneously
critiquing his own Victorian society through his skillful use of precise diction and
intense descriptions. As a means for Wells to convey his ideas, he tells the story
through his character, the time traveller, who gains credibility and frames the main
story of the book. Early on, Wells establishes that the time traveller was one of those

mind telling you the story, but I can t argue... Most of it will sound like lying. So
be it! It s true every word of it, all the same. I was in my laboratory at four o clock...
(Wells 16). As the time traveller dives into his story, Wells puts precision in the
unessential and vagueness in the essential... and conveys admirably the just
amount of conviction (Bergonzi 191). His art with description immerses the
reader completely into this unbelievable, yet completely plausible story. By
establishing the time traveller as a credible man and having the story told through
the credible character, Wells concretely conveys his ideas of the future and,
eventually, his critiques on his era s society. The time traveller s story begins upon
his arrival to the year of 802,701A.D., where he instantly begins speculating
theories about the future world. My general impression of the world I saw... was
of a tangled waste of beautiful bushes and flowers... Nevertheless, the general
effect was extremely rich and picturesque (Wells 23). Wells describes the future
world as a tangled waste of beauty, foreshadowing the decline of society as a whole
that he discusses later. As his story progresses, the time traveller continues to use
great detail and precise word choice to convey specific deeper meanings along with
each part of his adventure.

More Discourteous Than Savages Summary
More Discourteous Than Savages : Civility in Contemporary Political Discourse
Civility as a virtue is commonly invoked in contemporary political discussions,
given modern political America s highly partisan interactions and the reemergence
of battles for civil rights. However, many argue that civility, while an admirable
virtue for the individual, is not easily applied on a larger scale and should not be
considered to be a civic virtue. Civilityas a civic virtue may hinder our chances of
genuine and productive political interactions and serve as an impediment to honest
communication. If civility is considered to lie on a sliding scale seen as an aim for
political correctness on the right and the goal of silencing dissent on the left what...

The Black Lives Matter movement has been renowned for being a shamelessly
disruptive movement and for good reasons. While America was most certainly
built through the labors of black bodies, it somehow still needs to be said that yes,
black lives do matter . In a 2015 article for the Huffington Post, Kelly Wickham
sarcastically states that if the Black Lives Matter movement would just be
convenient and not disruptive, we wouldn t be in this turmoil (Wickham).
However, she brings up a very valid point. The entire article addresses points in
history in which civil speech has gotten black lives no where and while there is
certainly a time and a place in which to moderate the way in which you speak to
others, it s very easy to see why the Black Lives Matter activists feel as though they
don t have to ask nicely for anything that is guaranteed to other Americans
(Wickham). Unfortunately, this has had the effect of making many people outside of
the movement view the Black Lives Matter movement as aggressive and
inappropriate. President Obama, in a town hall meeting in London on April 23, said
that those involved in the movement can t just keep on yelling at [elected officials] if

Cults And Its Effect On Society
Cults have played major roles in how society has developed. They surround us
everywhere. We have been in contact with them and we don t even realize it.
According to
Merriam Webster, a cult is a religious group that is not part of an accepted religion
because their beliefs are seen as extreme and/or dangerous. Cults have carried out
many attacks and have caused many deaths due to their beliefs.
Cult leaders are the controllers that have the reins to their followers minds. They
can brainwash them into believing and doing whatever they desire in order to feel
power. Many people have gone to great extents to harm others and even
themselves. Many have killed for their devotion to their leader. How can leaders
achieve such control over others? Everything that cult leaders use to manipulate all
comes down to psychology. Some use fear and guilt to persuade while others
brainwash them into believing that what they are doing is for the greater good and
that it is all part of God s plan. Shoko Asahara gained power over his followers in the
Aum Shinrikyo cult, which led various chemical attacks against the citizens of
Japan, by exalting himself as the Messiah whose mission was to save humanity, a
mission that many cult leaders have in common. Shoko Asahara was born Chizuo
Matsumoto on March 2, 1955 in Yashushiro, Japan to a poor working class family.
At a young age he developed glaucoma which led to his blindness in his left eye and

Snow Country A place or Emotional and Psychological state. Snow country is a
place in a Western Japanese country, which we can consider as the setting of this
novel. The expression does not mean where snow falls. Though an area, Y.
Kawabata, the writer of the book writes in such a way that it portrays more about a
loveaffair, human feelings, emotions, loneliness, and a state of a person in
isolation. Likewise, the novel reveals how a human relationship can be
complicated and arduous at times to understand. It tells about people in a
relationship of love, trying to love, and connect to one another, but difficult to
compare. The closer they are, the more both parties try to know each other, and the
more they found out that they do not. Such is the case of the relationship between
these parties: Shimamura and Komako, Shimamura and Yoko, and a love triangle

considering they are from different time periods. Both heroes are brave, are fighter,
and are unselfish. Beowulf was written in the Anglo Saxon period and Katniss
Everdeen is from the Hunger Games, which is a modern piece of literature.
The first similarity is that both of them share the characteristic trait of being brave.
Beowulf shows examples of bravery because he fights a monster, who is very hard
to kill. Grendel, which is the monster s name, is known for killing men and eating
them. For Beowulf to fight Grendel that shows a great deal of bravery. Katniss
shows example of bravery when she goes in an arena with 24 other people and has to
survive and kill. She

Globalization and India s Rising Demand for Foreign Brands: Lessons for Marketers
Globalization
Globalization is an inevitable phenomenon that is leading the entire world towards
becoming one market, a global village. With the world becoming a single market,
globalization has had a major contribution in enabling the organizations worldwide
to step out of the restricted domestic markets and to set up their operations across
the globe with confidence. This has largely led to a decline in the importance in
national borders and a greater emphasis on what the consumers actually demand no
matter the consumer is located in the very country in which the organization exists or
an entirely different part of the world. Moreover, with the rapid increase in global
competition, companies that strictly adhere to and cater to the needs of the local
markets are finding themselves at a disadvantage and gradually losing the
competitive advantage that they so much strived to achieve. However, for some
products and services the tastes and preferences of consumers in different nations are
beginning to converge on some global norm.
Trudeau’s Imposition of the WMA in Canada Essay
example
Since the Confederation of Canada until today, the province of Quebec has always
wanted become its own nation by separating from Canada. As a result, Canada s
scariest ever terrorist group, the Front de LibГ©ration de Quebec (FLQ), wrote the
darkest chapter in Canadian history, The October Crisis. To end the terror,
Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau, was forced to invoke the War Measures Act
(WMA) during his term in 1970 which was flawed with disapproval and
controversy since it was the first time the Act was used during peacetime. However,
despite the criticism, his decision to invoke the War Measures Act was reasonable
because of the fear presented by the FLQ, the public and governmental demands, and
the end result of the October Crisis.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The manifesto stated that there are 100,000 revolutionary workers, armed and
organized! This statement was one of the major factors in the implementation of the
WMA. This is because the high number stated by the FLQ caused anxiety in
Canadians especially the police as they were uncertain the number was accurate. The
chief of the Montreal police, Marcel Saint Aubin, stated that, the police of Montreal
could not handle maintain peace and order in Quebec as well as so investigations
regarding the FLQ. He asked for the federal government to interfere and send the
military so the police and military can work together. This request from the chief of
the MontrГ©al police and the uncertain number of FLQ members is another reason
for Trudeau s implementation. Therefore, the fear caused by the FLQ was terrifying
resulting in the WMA.
In 1970, despite the robust disapproval by separatists, civil rights activist and
intellectuals , the majority of Canadians was largely supportive of Trudeau s
decision in invoking the WMA. As well as, the provincial and municipal
governments of Quebec and MontrГ©al, respectively, requested Prime Minister
Trudeau for assistance in this outbreak. On November, 1970, Gallup, a public
opinion polling company, surveyed Canadians, asking them, In general do you
approve, or disapprove, the government s actions in bringing in the War Measures Act
to handle the FLQ crises?... After Gallup conducted the poll, their data shows
3d Printing History
Its One thing to 3D print something as advanced and cutting edge as a Jet engine
motor, but it is another to fuel it up, take it to the runway and push the start button.
This is the stride GE aviation achieved when it fired up the motor of a simple Jet
engine, made completely of in house designed and 3D printed parts, at a test stand
normally reserved for commercial jet engines. GE Aviation is a world leading
provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and integrated systems for
commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft propulsion
applications. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings.
3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional
solid objects from a digital design. The creation of a 3D printed object is achieved
using additive processes. In an additive process the desired object is created by
laying down successive layers of material (usually molten alloy or plastics) until the
entire object is formed. Each of these layers can be seen as a thinly sliced horizontal
cross section of the eventual object.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best part is that the nozzles, like those used in the best selling Leap engine
manufactured by GE Aviation, were traditionally machined from 20 separate parts.
Now with 3D printing, each nozzle is one solid part, assembled by layering
powdered metal melted and fused together with lasers. With 19 fuel nozzles per
engine, it s a substantial difference that helps to streamline the manufacturing and
assembly process. It also cuts down on design
A Joint Venture With Pernod Ricard
The Republic of Poland, also known by its shortened name of Poland, has strong
ties to the United States. America has been a very powerful ally to Poland for
many years. The spirits sector of Poland s alcohol market is quickly growing with
the vodka segment as one of the country s largest sources of income. As a lucrative
business already established in the US and attempting to enter Polish markets, we will
enter a joint venturewith Pernod Ricard, a very successful alcohol and spirits
company with operations here in America and abroad in Poland. Through an in depth
look at Poland s spirits market we will provide support for why we are choosing to
enter Poland through a joint venture and how we plan to control our abroad
operations. A strategic plan detailing how we will use our joint venture and then
market, position, price, and promote our products are also included..
Pernod Ricard is an extablished alcohol and spirits company with operations in both
the US and in Poland. In the past it has entered two lucrative joint ventures. The first
took place in 1993 with Havana Club International, which was a 50/50 joint venture
(Pernod Ricard, 18). In 2011 Pernod Ricard entered into a joint venture with Tequila
AviГіn but it only held a minority percentage of 20% in this joint venture until
recently (Viladon). In July 2014, it spent approximately $100 million to gain the
majority share in this joint venture giving it control with 84% (Viladon). With this
joint venture Pernod Ricard

Toy Story Internal Conflict
a. The pixar film Toy Story presents an external conflict with our main characters
Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Buzz is the new toy in Andy s Room and starts getting
too much attention for Andy s favorite toy Woody s liking. Once Andy starts to
favor Buzz, Woody becomes jealous leading to his attempt to exterminate Buzz by
pushing him out the window. The rest of the movie is about Woody finding Buzz
and bringing them back home safely while learning to live with each other s
differences. I believe this story to be a representation of person versus person. The
Hunger Games as in the first novel by Suzanne Collins presents an external conflict
against people through Katniss Everdeen. She must survive the games by using
people to her advantage and killing the other kids in the games. She only pretends
to be attracted to Peeta for the sake of the audience s grace and will kill off multiple
people as the games... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sabaa Tahir s book An Ember in the Ashes presents an internal conflict with our
main character Elias. Son of the tyrant called Commandment, Elias has trained all
of his life to be a ruthless soldier and more recently the new emperor of Serra.
However, Elias thinks differently than his peers and does not want to live out his
days as a human weapon, cutting down anyone who opposes him like his mother
the Commandment. This type of conflict can be specified as person verses himself.
Splash is a movie about a mermaid who struggles with an internal conflict against
society. Madison shows up in a world different from her own in pursuit of her long
time love, Allan. However, Allan s world is not very accepting towards Mermaids
believing they are nothing but myths except for one scientist who is onto her.
Madison then has to accustom to human traditions like eating with utensils, wearing
clothes, speaking English and paying for things all while trying to keep her secret
from Allan and the scientist who wants to share it with the public and his laboratory.
Taking a Look at High School Cliques
In high school surviving is the hardest things to do, when anyone first come there.
The best thing to do is finding a clique of people and join them. Finding different
cliques are not that hard, but knowing who they are and adapting the environment is
one of the hardest thing to do in high school. Finding a wrong cliquecan lead anyone
straight down to a life of hell or worse. Students who entering high schoolcan identify
the types of cliques of student are in, and join up with whatever cliques that their find
is good for them.
For students who beginning to enter high school, they can identify the different
types of cliques there are in the school. There are five different cliques, which are
jocks, nerds, popular, artist, and the bad kids. Jocks are a bunch of kids who acts
as if they are better than everyone else. The jocks wear jersey; while, they spend
most of the time in the gym. The second clique are the nerds, whom are quiet to
them and loud while they are in their groups. They dress in oddly fashion and they
mostly sit in front of the classroom. The third clique are the popular kids tend to be
loud and obnoxious, whom they think they are cooler and beautiful than everyone
else. The clothes they wear are mostly expensive clothe like Hollister, A F, and other
popular brand clothing name. The way they talk is about how other people look and
how they look. The forth clique are the artists, whom are quiet, where they dress in
black color and sometimes weird color. The

Attitudes Toward The Poor Dbq Essay
Between 1450 and 1700 the attitudes towards the European poor changed
dramatically. In the 1400 s the poor were looked at with sympathy and compassion
and the aid from the public and institutions was very common. By the 16th century
they were looked at with suspicion and harsh measures, to make sure they were
not becoming lazy using welfare as a substitute for labor. The more religious
people had attitudes towards them hoping to assist them, but some with a harsher
view saw them as lazy and unwilling to work hard to earn a living. During the
period of 1450 and 1700 people tried to create some relief for the poor. A Catholic
priest in France once stated that Whoever gives a penny to the poor for God while
in good health, it will be worth 240 pennies (Doc. 1). This priest believes that
people must give alms to the poor, and that the act of giving to the poor will be
worth a great measure. The town council in Dijon, France suggested that they will
rent at the city s cost a barn or other place to put them for the night and to care for
them as well as possible (Doc. 2). This is one of... Show more content on

Juan Luis Vives explains women of eligible years put modesty aside and, no longer
holding to chastity, put it on sale and children of the needy receive a deplorable
upbringing. He also states that some know that they have a duty of charity to the
poor (Doc.3). In saying all of this, the poor is seen as sympathetically and Vives
believed that it is one s duty to care for the poor because of the dreadful living
conditions they lived under. In Rembrandt van Rijn s Beggars Receiving Alms at
the Door of a House, a clergyman is shown to be giving alms to a poor family
(Doc. 9). One of the reasons this is shown could be that the clergyman was
sympathetic in seeing this family. This is an example of how people in Europe
viewed the poor caringly, and as a result, giving alms to
Oscar Wilde Individualism Essay
The famous Irish writer Oscar Wilde is perhaps best known for his individualistic
ideas about art and life as well as for his homosexuality, which was not only
frowned upon in Victorian society, but illegal. Despite this however, Wilde was
influenced heavily by the inescapable pressure from society to conform. He revelled
in being a part of the Victorian upper class, which had strict rules, whether spoken or
unspoken, to dictate the behaviour of everyone in high society. The four comedic
plays that centred on satirizing this very society earned Wilde most of his fame,
especially The Importance of Being Earnest, an amusing story focusing on pretending
to be someone else for the sake of both reputation and pleasure. After his harsh 2 year
imprisonment... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also reveals his increased individualism through the contrasting tones of De
Profundis (written during and after prison) and The Importance of Being Earnest
(written before prison). While Earnest is cheerful and extravagant to appeal to
society, De Profundis is sad and realistic, showing that Wilde no longer cared what
society thought about him after his exile from the upper class lifestyle. In addition,
Earnest s exaggerated, theatrical, happy ending evokes a distinct feeling that Wilde
means the direct opposite. Especially knowing that the play was written as satire, it
seems unlikely that he really believed that all the characters in that situation would
end up with exactly what they wanted and no consequences. Jack s final line, I ve
now realized for the first time in my life the vital Importance of Being Earnest
(Wilde, 2005, p.79), seems especially sarcastic, and rather than saying that being
honest ( earnest ) is the reason everyone ends up perfectly content, it reads as a
warning that unless one maintains society s definition of earnest , he will inevitably
suffer the
The Characteristics Of A Hero In Adam Brown s Fearless
God has a reason for everything in life. Sometimes we do not understand his
reasoning, we just have to stick to his plan and trust that he has put us on the right
path. He sends people into your life to be your hero, to save you. In the novel
Fearless, every person that came into Adam Brown s life, plays the role of a heroin
some way. Many people in this novel played the role of a hero, each in their own
unique way. Adam Brown was a Navy SEAL who took great pride in serving his
country. He was a strong, kind hearted, protective, and an all around respectable
man who always had a can do attitude and never gave up on anything or showed
weakness about anything. According to Eric Blehm, Adam did not do anything
half speed. He gave a 110% no matter what he was doing. All of those are great
qualities to have and that is what made him astonishing Navy SEAL. Before Adam
could become a Navy SEAL and be a hero to his country, he was a hero to his
family. Adam had one older brother, Shawn, and a twin sister, Manda. Together
with their parents, Janice and Larry, they were a family of five. Adam was always
over protective of his twin sister. According to the author, Adam s protective side
would shine when he and Manda would walk to school. They had to make their way
past the middle schoolhandball courts. Any smaller kid within range would be
bombarded with tennis balls. Adam would spread his arms out and side shuffle,
guarding me, keeping me close to him so the balls wouldn t hit
The Effects Of Autism Spectrum Disorder On Children
Many children have to live their entire lives under the shadow of a disorder that
entirely alters the typical life of a person. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a common
neurobehavioral disorder that is caused during prenatal development. This specific
disorder affects 1 in 68 children in Canada and is increasing every single year. More
children will be diagnosed with autismthis year than with AIDS, diabetes, and cancer
combined (KenCrest). Children who are affected often don t get diagnosed until the
late years of elementary school; Parents, caregivers, and teachers need to know how
to recognise Autism so affected children can get the help they require as soon as
possible.
There are many environmental factors that can contribute to Autism during the
prenatal development. Although many can be avoided, some factors are non
avoidable. Assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences at
McMaster University, Stelios Georgiades (n.d.) states that Because autism runs in
families, researchers saw autism as almost entirely genetic. The old thinking was that
heritability accounted for up to 90 percent of all cases. A comprehensive study of
twins with autism showed that environmental factors also play an important role in
driving autism recurrence in families. By environment, researchers mean anything
non genetic. This study highlighted the reality that even though autism runs in
families, we can t assume that it s entirely inherited .
During the prenatal development,
Street Life In Always Running By Luis Rodriguez
How can street rules help you survive? Living the street life isn t the best life to
live but it s the best you can do depending on the condition you live in. Many say I
didn t choose the street life, the street life chose me. Not all the people have the
luxury of living with a loving family that cares about then and wants them to
succeed in life. Some people are in a way forced to live the street life just go
survive the night. The street life isn t so safe, there are certain codes that you must

They change how people act around different people. For example Luis went for
bad in order to gain respect of his gang members and of other gangs around him.
These codes are rules go hand in hand with gangs and others who chose the street
life. Gangs would have gang bangs in order to show who s stronger. People join
these gangs to prove their manhood. It implies physicality and a certain
ruthlessness many are trying to prove that they can handle situations like this
(Anderson 28). They do this for respect which is like the fuel of street life. Respect
is one of the most important things because if have no respect then you will just
get pummeled by others who have lots more respect. Many gangs are usually pop
up when there is no extra activities and opportunities. If there are more opportunities
for young people then gangs might become less frequent. Young people often join
gangs to be around others and in a way get involved. If we can find activities that do
the same but that don t involve violence we can keep many young souls off the

The Benefits Of Living Wage
INTRODUCTION:
The living wage is based on the amount an individual needs to earn to cover the basic
costs of living.
Living costs changes from place to place in country so there is different living wage
rate for London and rest of the country. Living wage is administered and promoted
by the Living wage foundation. Politicians has given its widespread support but
limited endorsement is been given by employers. The particular amount that must be
earned per hour to meet these needs varies depending on location. In the 1990s the
first living wage campaigns were launched by community initiatives in the US
addressing increasing poverty faced by workers and their families. They argued that
employee, employer, and the community win with a living wage. Employees would
be more willing to work, helping the employer reduce worker turnover, and it would
help the community when the citizens have enough to have a decent life.
Prime Minister David Cameron has said he supports the idea in principle.
Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson both London s former and current mayor, are
supporters of living wage. The Greater London Authority (GLA) is among the
organisations that pay the living wage to their employees.
No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its
workers has any right to continue in this country.
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 1933, Statement on National Industrial
Recovery Act.
What is the difference between the living wage and the
Odysseus Journey Into The Underworld
In order to satisfy your request to go back to Ithaca, your homeland, you must pass
through the Underworld, or the land of the dead, and meet Tiresias, a wise man, I,
Angel, instruct to Odysseus. Conversely, Odysseus feels a weight on his shoulder
and I can t understand why, as I only was helping him reach home. The directions I
gave were to sail to Hades and speak with Tiresias, who will aid him from there.
Accordingly, Odysseus tells his men the course, and they believe it is neither
achievable nor safe. Moreover, Odysseus audaciously decided to trust me and
enters the underworld. Considering Odysseus was a courageous person, I wasn t
surprised he went on the mentally and physically challenging journey. Eventually,
Odysseus ends up going to the Underworld. Tiresias, a blind spirit, goes to help
Odysseus reach his way home. After realizing he must make a sacrifice in order to
gain passage into the Underworld, Odysseus was aghast; I was irritated after
hearing Odysseus never knew this before. Odysseus sacrifices Elpenor when he
falls off a roof, and overreacts by bawling, after completing it. I believe this should
not sidetrack his journey home. Since I sacrificed one ram to receive a passage to
the Underworld instead of a whole person, I am more resourceful. Then, Tiresias
says, Odysseus, you will safely arrive at your home if you follow my instructions.
After hearing this news, I didn t believe Odysseus would be able to go back home
and thought he d have needed to stay in the Underworld forever. For some reason, I
was too quick in thinking. Before leaving the Underworld, Odysseus calls a few
spirits and talks to them. In order to speak, the spirits had to drink some animal
blood, and this disgusted me. The first one was Elpenor, who was missing, but not
noticed by anyone. Please make me a proper mound of rocks and grieve once I die;
some honor is all I need, Elpenor requested to Odysseus. Odysseus agrees since he
desired to make up for not realizing Elpenor went missing when he was preparing
the ship to sail to the Underworld. His mother, Anticlea, claimed, I died miserable
and lonely waiting for you to return from the land of the dead. I didn t understand
this because I believed

Ozymandias Poem Essay

  • 1. Ozymandias Poem Essay Crafting an essay on the "Ozymandias" poem can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a delicate balance of literary analysis, historical context, and personal interpretation. The poem, penned by Percy Bysshe Shelley, is a complex work that delves into themes of power, transience, and the inevitable decay of human accomplishments. To begin with, understanding the nuances of Shelley's language and the vivid imagery he employs is crucial. Unraveling the layers of meaning embedded in the words demands a keen literary eye and a profound appreciation for poetic devices. One must navigate through the sonnet's structure, meter, and rhyme scheme to unravel the subtle messages woven into its fabric. Moreover, a comprehensive exploration of historical and cultural contexts is indispensable. Investigating the circumstances that inspired Shelley to write "Ozymandias" provides depth to the analysis. Unveiling the political and social climate of the time aids in grasping the poet's intent and the underlying critique of power and hubris. The challenge intensifies when attempting to offer a unique perspective on a poem that has been dissected and analyzed by scholars for centuries. Crafting an original argument or shedding new light on familiar interpretations requires creativity and a deep understanding of the existing discourse surrounding the poem. Assembling these elements into a coherent and well-structured essay poses another hurdle. Balancing the introduction, body, and conclusion while maintaining a fluid narrative that engages the reader is an art in itself. The writer must ensure that each paragraph contributes meaningfully to the overall thesis, guiding the reader through a thoughtful exploration of the poem. In conclusion, composing an essay on the "Ozymandias" poem is no simple task. It demands a fusion of literary acumen, historical insight, and analytical prowess. Successfully navigating these challenges, however, can result in a rewarding exploration of Shelley's masterpiece. If grappling with such complexities seems daunting, assistance is available. Similar essays and more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, where expert writers can provide valuable insights and support in tackling literary analyses. Ozymandias Poem Essay Ozymandias Poem Essay
  • 2. Polar Bear Environmental Impact Throughout history, humans have modified their environment to suit their needs, such as housing, agriculture, and industry, but we are now seeing major changes to the environment on a scale not witnessed before. The greenhouse effect has run rampant through man s use of fossil fuels and is causing major changes to the planet, many unseen by people not directly affected. Human overuse of dirty energies that produce CO2 has led to shrinking Arctic ice and warmer temperatures that cause disruption for the animals and people who live there. Glaciers, in places such as Iceland and Canada, and the Arctic ice sheet are melting, breeding seasons are changing, and people and animals are being displaced (Greene et. al., 2008). Some changes have been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The frequency of long distance swims in the polar bear population is increasing, beginning in late spring as the sea ice starts melting, when the bears migrate from the sea ice to land or offshore pack ice (Pilfold et. al. 2017). Warmer temperatures are causing ice to become much thinner and more mobile. Instead of walking on a consolidated sea ice surface, polar bears may be forced to undertake long distance swims to complete their migratory route (Pilfold et. al. :190, 2017). Since polar bears are not pack animals, the effects of climate change on migratory behavior can vary greatly between individual, and, therefore, this study compares male and female adults and male and female subadults. Subadults of both sexes swam as much as an adult female did, but adult females with cubs were less likely to swim than the other age classes (Pilfold et. al. 2017). The swims are also made in correlation to the ice; there is a positive relation in the distance of the ice from land and the rate in which it retreated with the frequency of swims. Most swims were made before the ice had reached its minimum, and when it expands again, the bears track its movement toward the continental shelf (Pilfold et. al.
  • 3. Ns The National Security Agency USA Today confirms: the National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT T, Verizon and BellSouth. With access to records of billions of domestic calls, the NSA has gained a secret window into the communications habits of millions of Americans. (Opsahl 28 Sep. 2013) It s no secret that the U.S. government agency known as the NSA, National Security Agency, has been monitoring phone calls and Internet usage of United Statescitizens since the early 2000 s during George W. Bush s time in office. During his presidency, Bush authorized the motorization of millions of citizen s phone calls. (Tebbutt 25 Sep. 2013) The NSA created a secret program called The Highlander Program which was designed to monitor satellite phone transmissions on the Inmarsat network in the Middle East. During this secret program, the NSA did not monitor any United States citizens. Bush claimed the surveillance was limited to the al Qaeda, but that simply was not the case. (Forgang 27 Sep. 2013) Does the United States government have the right to listen in on civilian s phone calls regardless of the reason? As seen in the media, most citizens don t want the NSA to be listening in on their calls and other forms of communication. In Samuel Greengard s magazine article, Spies Among Us, he explains, The boundary between protection and privacy has always been fuzzy. (Greengard 27 Sep. 2013) The point he is offering is
  • 4. Summary Of How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents The utilization of style makes How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez an arduous book to read. John s right hand played piano on her ribs, and his mouth blew a piccolo on her, Alvarez writes, using metaphor to describe a sex scene between Yolanda and her husband, John (76). The author s vivid description is frivolous and supports neither the plot nor the specific event within the story. Next, Alvarez s syntax is emphasized in the excerpt: The hills begin to plane out into a high plateau, and the road widens. Left and right, roadside stands begin appearing. Yolanda keeps an eye out for guavas. Piled high on wooden stands are fruits Yolanda hasn t seen in years: pinkish yellow mangoes, and tamarind pods oozing their rich sap, and small cashew fruits strung on a rope to keep them from bruising each other. Strips of meat, buzzing with flies, hang from the windows of butcher stalls (Alvarez 13). The elongated wording and imagery of How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents takes a detour from the actual plot, which makes the book difficult to comprehend. In addition, Alvarez applies symbolism by using the quote: These baby monkeys were kept in a cage so long, they wouldn t come out when the doors were finally left open. Instead they stayed inside and poked their arms through the bars for their food, just out of reach (149). The Garcia girls will always be tied to the Dominican Republic just like how the monkeys are with the cage. The example of symbolism
  • 5. Family Traditions For Dysfunctional Families Essay Family Traditions for Dysfunctional Families In todays world there are at least 1 Billion families. Which means there has to be at least 1 Billion family traditions. Family traditions can be many different things but my family traditions all can relate back to dysfunctionalism. There are more dysfunctional families in the united states than normal families. More than 50% of happiness comes from dysfunctional families and still, the celebrate Birthdays, Religious Holidays and Casual Holidays . Can you imagine Holidays being the root of our happiness. What is a dysfunctional family? A dysfunctional familyis where the relationship between the parent and child are strained and unnatural (Artical 1). Dysfunctional families can range from many different things such as failing to be a provider for their child or lack of emotional, phychological and/or physical needs. There are also different types of dysfunctional families. Dysfunctional families can be because of addiction, alcohol, no emotional support, religious fundamentalism and rigidly dogmatic beliefs, overly possessive parents and sexaul abuse. First on the list is Birthday. Every year this day is celebrated with cake and gifts. Sure, this seems casual but something makes it different. Once the kid reaches 18 whom ever brough them cakes, the 18 year old has to buy them for that person for 18 years. Crazy right? Well that is just the way things go. Another tradion that we celebrate on birthday is the cutting of the
  • 6. The s First Appearance On The Show Meyer Lansky In his first appearance on the show Meyer Lansky gives a very earnst and well worded but fake business proposal, forces someone to shake his hand (and thus acknowledge him) and muses on the future importance of the petrol industry, all of which allow for a good character defining moment. His main motivation and driving force through out the series is his own ambition to gain money, power and respect. While it s not not hard to connect this ambition to a childhood of poverty and ethnic oppression, it goes even deeper than that: in 1931 Lansky has achieved more than he could have dreamed of as a child and yet still looks to take even more Atlantic City, the Commission, etc. etc. There s an undercurrent of nothing is enough with Meyer and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In late season one, Jimmy (another gangster) ties him up and threatens him with a gun a few months later Meyer has absolutely no problem going into business with him. After Rothstein s betrayal Charlie is enraged but Meyer is the one who recognizes that continuing to push A.R. will lead to nothing but their deaths, even telling Rothstein he understands his actions. This pragmatism and desire for professionalism is present even in Meyer s personal relationships his friendship with Charlie Luciano is somewhat unique, as the gangsters generally tend to stick to people within their own ethnicity (and Charlie is Italian) but first and foremost it s a lucrative partnership. Even the way they met is good example of this Charlie and his gang would ambush Meyer on his way to school, demanding he give them their money. Meyer would spit on them and refuse to give in and in exchange they would beat him up. After a few days of this Charlie asked him to join his gang and they have been partners in crime ever since. During the show Meyer is generally shown as the book keeper and organizer of his and Charlie s operation and as such there is no denying his intelligence and keen sense of business. He is methodical and meticulous in his approach to crime, keeping track of every action (sales, purchase, murder, bribery..) in a neat little notebook. He researches his
  • 7. For The Year Ended 30 June 2015 And June 2016, Wesfarmers For the year ended 30 June 2015 and June 2016, Wesfarmers current assets were consistently at 0.93 times larger than it current liabilities, this is 0.05 times higher than the industry average of 0.88 as shown in Appendix V Wesfarmers Ltd Industry Averages. Thus, Wesfarmers current ratio is not out of line with the current ratios of many of the company s in its industry. This gives the indication that Wesfarmers should not have any trouble paying its debts for the next twelve (12) months, as its current liabilities are less than its current assets. However, for the year ended 30 June 2015 and June 2016, Woolworths is 0.05 times below the industry average as seen in Appendix B, Figure... This indicated that Woolworths is out of line with... Profitability Financial ratios reflects the level of the company s profit relative to sales (Titan, 2012, p. 151). In other words, this is a company s capability of generating profits from its operations. Profitability is one of four building blocks for analysing financial statements and company performance as a whole. The balance sheet contains assets that the business owns and which is used in the business for the purpose of generating profit (Jessop, 2017). See Appendix A, figure II. To determine profitability for Wesfarmers, we will look at the Net Profit Margin, Return on Investment and the Return on Equity using DuPont Analysis. Net Profit Margin The Net Profit Margin expresses the net after tax profits of an organisation as a percentage of sales (Titan, 2012, p. 155). The net profit margin for Wesfarmers and Woolworths is computed as follows in Table III below: Formula Net Income Sales Table III Wesfarmers Woolworths 2015 201620152016 0.039 or 3.9% 0.006 or 0.6%0.036 or 3.6%0.021 or 2.1% For the year ended 30 June 2015 Wesfarmers made AUD $0.039 of each sales dollar, and for June 2016 they made AUD $0.006 of each sales dollar, this is converted into profits, after taxes. Healthcare facilities, organizations, and or offices rely on health care administrators to plan, direct and coordinate all medical health services (United States Department of Labor , 2014). Some areas where one might find administrators are managing entire medical facilities, specialized clinical departments, or a medical practice for a group of physicians (United States Department of Labor , 2014). The need for high quality health care administers is more now than ever with the fast changing health care laws. Administrators must be able to learn and lead when regulations and laws change so that the medical organizations they lead are in legal working order. Finance management of costs for the facility and patient billing to creating work schedules are just a few of the duties and administrator is found doing on a daily basis (O*Net Sites, 2015). It is standard for an administrator to spend part of his or her time communicating with physicians and staff. Evaluating staff procedures along with quality assurance helps keep medical facilities within safety guidelines so patients get the best care possible (O*Net Sites, 2015). This being said this profession carries a lot of responsibility to those they lead but also to
  • 10. The Great Northwoods Essay The Great Northwoods As with all things, the history of an event does not begin at its conception. With this in mind, it is my intention to provide the reader with a general history of events that led to the formation of the Nicolet National Forest of northern Wisconsin. In order to do so, I found it necessary to begin with the early explorations of such notables as James Cartier, Samuel de Champlain, and Jean Nicolet. These French explorers blazed a path that enabled the settling of the territories now know as Wisconsin. Men like them embodied the new era of exploration that was gripping the European nations with the quest for empire, trade, and the advancement of Christianity, leading the way. With the failure of agriculture to take a firm hold, the conservation movement led the government to purchase large tracts of land in an effort to save what little was left of the great forests of Wisconsin. Fires had become rampant within the region, lives were being lost, and the government became determined to correct the situation. I have determined that the end point of my discussion will be the years leading up to World War II. For while the Great Depression brought about untold suffering for many, it was actually the giver of life for the Nicolet National Forest. People needed work, and the government was searching for ways to put them to work. Forming and nurturing the growth of a National Forest was the ideal answer for thousands. The years immediately proceeding World War II brought back economic security for many, and left a legacy of many industrial accomplishments as well as non industrial accomplishments such as the Nicolet National Forest. In conclusion, the manner that I have chosen to write this paper was presented to me by my sources. Of the few sources that I was able to garner dealing solely with the Nicolet National Forest, each followed the same general outline. And, since importance was stressed upon these areas already by established historians, I felt that it should not be ignored. The first major exploration that bears particular relevance to the Nicolet National Forest begins with the exploits of James

For over a decade, a researcher named Carol Dweck, has studied the effects of praise on school aged children from twenty New York schools. Dweck and her research assistants conducted a series of experiments on over four hundred fifth graders. The researcher s would pull children from the classroom and have them take a nonverbal IQ test with puzzles that were easy enough all the children would do well. After the test the researchers told the children their score and gave them a single line of praise. Divided into two groups at the beginning, some of the students were praised for their intelligence with lines like, You must be smart at this. The other students received praise for their effort You must have worked really hard. Dweck used just a single line of praise to see how sensitive children were to this form of praise. The majority of the students praised for their intelligence chose the easy test. Why did this happen? When we praise children for their intelligence, we tell

This paper was focused on using state tests in order to formally evaluate teachers. Teachers are being evaluated all the time to determine whether they are fit to be in the classroom. This paper focuses on the issues created by NCLB as well as race to the top. It has become a competition to have teachers get the best state scores on tests. These scores are how we are evaluating our current and possibly even future teachers. The use of state tests as evaluation tools has become a stressor for teachers. Teachers are constantly striving to be the best and with the weight of the evaluation on their shoulder, their job has become harder and even more stressful. Using these tests to evaluate create nothing but problems for teachers, as they do not effectively evaluate teachers and their true capabilities. Teachers are under constant evaluation. Principals, parents and other teachers are constantly watching and evaluating teachers to ensure that students get the best education possible. However, what should they be effectively be basing those evaluations on? Standardized assessments are being more involved in classrooms, and those are the tests that teachers are being evaluated on. However, is that truly fair to the teacher to be evaluated on such substantial state tests? No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was implemented in 2001 and was created in order to increase

Prufrock s pressure to talk to women stems from wanting to seize the day and make his life fruitful and happy, but is more comfortable not trying than having a chance of failure. Prufrock explains how he can change his impression with a few minor changes, For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse (Eliot 34). In this text, Prufrock talks about how he can reverse time in terms of his feelings, how he can be unhappy, happy, and unhappy in seconds because of his decisions, and the revisions of those decisions. Prufrock explains what goes through his head when he talks about women, and how systematically he analyzes himself. Prufrock is a man who enjoys leisure, and his approach to women is very uptight and systematic, which is polar to his true self. Even if Prufrock makes the right decisions and revisions in talking with women, he will not be fulfilled with that women until he is his true, relaxed self. The narrator sets the tone of the poem To His Coy Mistress, Had we but world enough and time (Marvell 1). Throughout the entire poem, Prufrock consistently talks about his fading youth, and how he says that there will be time. This talk of time and a carpe diem theme alludes to Andrew Marvell s poem, To His Coy Mistress. Similar to the narrator,
  • 32. Believer Poem Analysis Believer The song Believer , by Imagine Dragons, they sing about how the pain and depression, they were going through, has made him stronger than before. This song tells us that your greatest strengths come from your weaknesses. Imagine Dragons are trying too say that Pain and depression and sadness are only stepping stones to your strength, in this song. Believer is about that you don t have to dwell on your troubles and can look on the bright side of things. This song also explains that you can become a Believer by embracing all of the problems going on in your life today. The theme of relationships in this song is highlighted through many various examples of similes, metaphors, and other literary devices throughout the song. This theme is brought through the song by showing multiple literary devices. Such as I m the one at sail, I m the master of my sea . This metaphor shows the realization and empowerment that oneself can give in a depressing situation. This simile Falling like ashes to the ground, Hoping my feelings they would drown compares his feeling of sadness and depression to ashes, and wanting them to drown and vanish, from his life. Three Coins In The Fountain Research Hundreds of years ago, clean water was valued very much as it was rare and sacred, unlike our current generation where clean water can be easily accessed in most parts of the world. In the past, clean water was considered a gift from the gods by many tribes across the world in areas such as Europe, Africa, and Asia. As a matter of fact, countless people believed that deities themselves lived in the water. Back then, presenting gifts to deities were ancient practices generally done to appease an angry god or as payment for requests and prayer to the god. As a result, whenever watering holes were discovered, people threw money into the water in order to show gratitude for the clean water as well as to ensure the continuance of the precious water. And that, my fellow classmates, is how the superstition of tossing coins into fountains and wells had begun. Most people around the world today no longer worry or think twice about lacking clean water. But despite that, the tradition of throwing coins into wells and fountains still exist. This is because the purpose of throwing coins into wells and fountains have changed. In the past, there were inventions to help humans along their way to living a simple life; but do we really want that, a very simple life, so simple that we will get bored around the house and our things will be done by someone else, or maybe even by something else? Do we want our things, our chores or our work to be done by... computers or technology? In the short story, The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, inventions that would seem unimaginable or even impossible for us today have a very big impact on the characters lives. The kids obviously don t want that and so they think of getting rid of their boring, old parents that don t listen to them. They ask themselves how they got in this mess and what prompted them to buy a nightmare and come up with the idea that it was pride, money and foolishness (p.129). They thought that because they have money, they should buy this mad man house. Ray Bradbury is telling us that he does not like technology. To make his point, he makes up a futuristic world where people are just useless, lazy and boring. He makes up houses that serve as wife and mother now and nursemaid. (p.119). He really wants us to see that technology, abused, is actually not as good as everyone would imagine. When the Hadleys buy the house and the nursery, they actually buy their own ticket to death. They might not know it, but it s true. Bradbury warns us that children should never be exposed to that kind of technology because of the outcome it can have

  • 37. Analysis Of The Time Machine By H. G. Wells Travelling to the year 802,701 presents a world where human intelligence has declined and species have simplified. The time traveller recounts his experiences in this changed world. The two species, the Eloi and the Morlocks, represent the way humans from Wells s time have evolved. In H.G. Wells s renowned book, The Time Machine, Wells conveys his ideas of the future of mankind while simultaneously critiquing his own Victorian society through his skillful use of precise diction and intense descriptions. As a means for Wells to convey his ideas, he tells the story through his character, the time traveller, who gains credibility and frames the main story of the book. Early on, Wells establishes that the time traveller was one of those men... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the time traveller dives into his story, Wells puts precision in the unessential and vagueness in the essential... and conveys admirably the just amount of conviction (Bergonzi 191). His art with description immerses the reader completely into this unbelievable, yet completely plausible story. By establishing the time traveller as a credible man and having the story told through the credible character, Wells concretely conveys his ideas of the future and, eventually, his critiques on his era s society. The time traveller s story begins upon his arrival to the year of 802,701A.D., where he instantly begins speculating theories about the future world. My general impression of the world I saw... was of a tangled waste of beautiful bushes and flowers... Nevertheless, the general effect was extremely rich and picturesque (Wells 23). Wells describes the future world as a tangled waste of beauty, foreshadowing the decline of society as a whole that he discusses later. As his story progresses, the time traveller continues to use great detail and precise word choice to convey specific deeper meanings along with each part of his adventure. The entire article addresses points in history in which civil speech has gotten black lives no where and while there is certainly a time and a place in which to moderate the way in which you speak to others, it s very easy to see why the Black Lives Matter activists feel as though they don t have to ask nicely for anything that is guaranteed to other Americans (Wickham). According to Merriam Webster, a cult is a religious group that is not part of an accepted religion because their beliefs are seen as extreme and/or dangerous. Cults have carried out many attacks and have caused many deaths due to their beliefs. Cult leaders are the controllers that have the reins to their followers minds. They can brainwash them into believing and doing whatever they desire in order to feel power. Many people have gone to great extents to harm others and even themselves. Many have killed for their devotion to their leader. How can leaders achieve such control over others? Everything that cult leaders use to manipulate all comes down to psychology. Some use fear and guilt to persuade while others brainwash them into believing that what they are doing is for the greater good and that it is all part of God s plan. Shoko Asahara gained power over his followers in the Aum Shinrikyo cult, which led various chemical attacks against the citizens of Japan, by exalting himself as the Messiah whose mission was to save humanity, a mission that many cult leaders have in common. Likewise, the novel reveals how a human relationship can be complicated and arduous at times to understand. It tells about people in a relationship of love, trying to love, and connect to one another, but difficult to compare. The closer they are, the more both parties try to know each other, and the more they found out that they do not. Such is the case of the relationship between these parties: Shimamura and Komako, Shimamura and Yoko, and a love triangle between Yukio, Komako, and Yoko. An affair of the moment, no more. With the world becoming a single market, globalization has had a major contribution in enabling the organizations worldwide to step out of the restricted domestic markets and to set up their operations across the globe with confidence. This has largely led to a decline in the importance in national borders and a greater emphasis on what the consumers actually demand no matter the consumer is located in the very country in which the organization exists or an entirely different part of the world. Moreover, with the rapid increase in global competition, companies that strictly adhere to and cater to the needs of the local markets are finding themselves at a disadvantage and gradually losing the competitive advantage that they so much strived to achieve. However, for some products and services the tastes and preferences of consumers in different nations are beginning to converge on some global norm.

As a result, Canada s scariest ever terrorist group, the Front de LibГ©ration de Quebec (FLQ), wrote the darkest chapter in Canadian history, The October Crisis. To end the terror, Canadian Prime Minister, Trudeau, was forced to invoke the War Measures Act (WMA) during his term in 1970 which was flawed with disapproval and controversy since it was the first time the Act was used during peacetime. This statement was one of the major factors in the implementation of the WMA. The chief of the Montreal police, Marcel Saint Aubin, stated that, the police of Montreal could not handle maintain peace and order in Quebec as well as so investigations regarding the FLQ. He asked for the federal government to interfere and send the military so the police and military can work together. This request from the chief of the MontrГ©al police and the uncertain number of FLQ members is another reason for Trudeau s implementation. In 1970, despite the robust disapproval by separatists, civil rights activist and intellectuals , the majority of Canadians was largely supportive of Trudeau s decision in invoking the WMA. As well as, the provincial and municipal governments of Quebec and MontrГ©al, respectively, requested Prime Minister Trudeau for assistance in this outbreak. In the 1400 s the poor were looked at with sympathy and compassion and the aid from the public and institutions was very common. By the 16th century they were looked at with suspicion and harsh measures, to make sure they were not becoming lazy using welfare as a substitute for labor. The more religious people had attitudes towards them hoping to assist them, but some with a harsher view saw them as lazy and unwilling to work hard to earn a living. During the period of 1450 and 1700 people tried to create some relief for the poor. A Catholic priest in France once stated that Whoever gives a penny to the poor for God while in good health, it will be worth 240 pennies (Doc. 1). This priest believes that people must give alms to the poor, and that the act of giving to the poor will be worth a great measure. He revelled in being a part of the Victorian upper class, which had strict rules, whether spoken or unspoken, to dictate the behaviour of everyone in high society. The four comedic plays that centred on satirizing this very society earned Wilde most of his fame, especially The Importance of Being Earnest, an amusing story focusing on pretending to be someone else for the sake of both reputation and pleasure. He also reveals his increased individualism through the contrasting tones of De Profundis (written during and after prison) and The Importance of Being Earnest (written before prison). While Earnest is cheerful and extravagant to appeal to society, De Profundis is sad and realistic, showing that Wilde no longer cared what society thought about him after his exile from the upper class lifestyle. In addition, Earnest s exaggerated, theatrical, happy ending evokes a distinct feeling that Wilde means the direct opposite. Especially knowing that the play was written as satire, it seems unlikely that he really believed that all the characters in that situation would end up with exactly what they wanted and no consequences. Jack s final line, I ve now realized for the first time in my life the vital Importance of Being Earnest (Wilde, 2005, p.79), seems especially sarcastic, and rather than saying that being honest ( earnest ) is the reason everyone ends up perfectly content, it reads as a warning that unless one maintains society s definition of earnest , he will inevitably suffer the

Odysseus Journey Into The Underworld In order to satisfy your request to go back to Ithaca, your homeland, you must pass through the Underworld, or the land of the dead, and meet Tiresias, a wise man, I, Angel, instruct to Odysseus. Conversely, Odysseus feels a weight on his shoulder and I can t understand why, as I only was helping him reach home. The directions I gave were to sail to Hades and speak with Tiresias, who will aid him from there. Accordingly, Odysseus tells his men the course, and they believe it is neither achievable nor safe. Moreover, Odysseus audaciously decided to trust me and enters the underworld. Considering Odysseus was a courageous person, I wasn t surprised he went on the mentally and physically challenging journey. Eventually, Odysseus ends up going to the Underworld. Tiresias, a blind spirit, goes to help Odysseus reach his way home. After realizing he must make a sacrifice in order to gain passage into the Underworld, Odysseus was aghast; I was irritated after hearing Odysseus never knew this before. Odysseus sacrifices Elpenor when he falls off a roof, and overreacts by bawling, after completing it. I believe this should not sidetrack his journey home. Since I sacrificed one ram to receive a passage to the Underworld instead of a whole person, I am more resourceful. Then, Tiresias says, Odysseus, you will safely arrive at your home if you follow my instructions. After hearing this news, I didn t believe Odysseus would be able to go back home and thought he d have needed to stay in the Underworld forever. For some reason, I was too quick in thinking. Before leaving the Underworld, Odysseus calls a few spirits and talks to them. In order to speak, the spirits had to drink some animal blood, and this disgusted me. The first one was Elpenor, who was missing, but not noticed by anyone. Please make me a proper mound of rocks and grieve once I die; some honor is all I need, Elpenor requested to Odysseus. Odysseus agrees since he desired to make up for not realizing Elpenor went missing when he was preparing the ship to sail to the Underworld. His mother, Anticlea, claimed, I died miserable and lonely waiting for you to return from the land of the dead. I didn t understand this because I believed
