6.Conclusion:
The core objective of this article is to analyze the impact of internal characteristics (e.g. size,
leverage, liquidity, operating expenses, management fee and age) on profitability of listed
Modarabas in Pakistan. Pooled OLS method used to estimate the effects of internal characteristics
on profitability measured as profit margin, return on investment and earnings per certificate. Data
was taken from financial statement analysis (FSA) of financial firms compiled by SBP during
2011 2015. Results show that size of Modarabasis positively related to profit margin and return on
investment. The possible reasons for positive association between size and profitability are, first,

Anna Karenina: Comparative Analysis
Introduction
Anna Karenina is a 19th century novel written by Leo Tolstoy. The book narrates a story about
family bonds, love and culture. The tale focuses on two specific characters. These characters are
Anna Karenina and Konstantin Levin. Anna is an urban housewife married to a politician.
Initially, she is the reasonable person since she acts as a mediator during the conflict faced by the
Oblonsky family whereby Anna s brother was unfaithful to her wife. She is able to reunite the
couple, Stiva and Dolly, even though there were issues based on infidelity. Nonetheless, Anna too
succumbed to temptation and fell in love with a soldier called Vronsky, yet, she was a married
woman. Their lustful relationship continues until Anna s husband discovers her deceit. Anna asks
for a divorce but she is not granted at first. Finally, when her husband gives her the choice of
divorcing him, she does not and moves to a different country with her lover. Anna gives birth to a
child and when she returns to her town, she is shunned by society due to her illicit affair. On the
other hand, Kitty, Dolly s sister, had her eye on Anna s lover. The feeling was not mutual and she
ended up marrying Levin, the suitor she had shunned in preference for Vronsky. Ultimately, the
main characters in the story find the true meaning of life.
The movie adaptation of the same novel which

Frank Mccourt s Angelas Ashes
Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes is a memoir consisting of various memories and stories from
Frank McCourt s childhood. As a child, Frank was deprived of many opportunities because of his
social class; these limitations are what make Frank so determined to gain people s respect.
The memoir takes place in New York, Frank s birthplace, and Ireland, where Frank spent the
majority of his childhood. Franks childhood takes place in Limerick, Ireland during the times
where poverty and social snobbery were common. Frank was born in Brooklyn, New York in
1930. Frank is the oldest of all his siblings. Soon after Frank is born his younger brother Malachy
Jr. and a year later the twins Oliver and Eugene are born. With each addition to their family
Malachy, Franks father, and Angela, Franks mother, are struggling to support their growing family.
Also with Franks father, Malachy, who has alcoholic tendencies and spends his entire salary on
alcohol is an attribute to the struggling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The family is forced to move in with one of Angela s cousins who forces Angela into sexual
relations. Due to her starving children, Angela complies to the relation. By this time Franks
dream is to move to America, his place of birth, and to get a job there to help support his family.
Franks first job is a telegram delivery boy and later he leaves that job to deliver newspaper and
magazines for a different store. Through all his hardships Frank McCourt follows his dream to
go to America after raising enough money to go by working, some stealing and saving. Overall,
the memoir was well written and the reader will be unable to put it down. I would recommend
this book to any reader looking to discover a classic. Angelas Ashes is a memoir about the
hardships in life and how that once you have hit rock bottom you can only go

Catcher In The Rye And The Kite Runner First Person Narrative
First person narrative expresses a point of view giving the greatest sense of identity of the
character. People are all different. Different colours, religions, different morals and beliefs, and
maybe most important different perspectives on the world. In both The Catcher in the Rye in The
Kite Runner the male protagonist tells the course of events from their perspective, and their role as
narrator has a significant impact on the novels In both The Catcher in the Rye, and The Kite
Runner, first person narration played a critical role in helping the reader know and understand the
main characters, Holden Caulfield Amir. From this perspective the reader gets to encounter the
innermost thoughts on Holden Amir s perspective on life and... Show more content on

Amir grew up with a sense of entitlement, and a loyal servant/friend in Hassan. After Hassan s
rape, Amir is stricken with grief and tries to console himself by saying that he is better than
Hassan because Hassan is a Hazara and has a cleft lip. It s here where the disgusting mindset of
Amir, a perspective that only the reader has the opportunity to understand. Hassan knew. He
knew I d seen everything in that alley, that I d stood there and done nothing. He knew I had
betrayed him and yet he was rescuing me once again, maybe for the last time. (Kite 9.29) This
quote perfectly encapsulates Amir s feelings of extreme grief for what he did to Hassan. This is a
recurring theme within the book, the reader sees the anxiety that Amir feels for betraying Hassan in
the alley that day, and from that day he does his best to repent for his unatoned sins.
Another importance of first person narrative within The Catcher in the Rye and The Kite Runner
is it allows the reader to empathize with the characters of the novels. In both novels the narrator
/main character is not the most likeable. Holden Caulfield is a very cynical and jaded narrator,
and finds the hypocrisy and ugliness of the world around him almost unbearable, through his
cynicism he tries to protect himself from the pain and disappointment of the adult world. Amir is
a complex character like all protagonist narrator s are. He isn t all bad, but he has a crippled
conscious, and makes very

Question: Examine the advantages and disadvantages for China of harmonization of accounting
standards under the current economic and social system. With the development of economic
globalization and capital markets, accounting standards based on a national system cannot satisfy
the needs of users whose decisions are increasingly international. Therefore harmonization of
accounting standards has become an inevitable choice for many countries. The Chinese government
has introduced four sets of accounting standards and efforts continue to be made to bring its
domestic accounting standards in line with international accounting standards, as a result of which
numerous benefits have been brought about by the harmonization of accounting... Show more

A large amount of material, money and human resources have to be devoted in the process of
institutional change and adaptation. For example, according to China Accounting Standards
Committee (n.d.), in March 2003, the Committee hired 160 consultants in order to assist its
institutional change. Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if
each one spends at least ¥1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the
total amount of training costs would be ¥12 million. Though some costs of institutional change
and adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be
calculated. Adapting harmonizing accounting standards is neither an easy nor a rapid procedure.
For instance, during the adaptation period, accountants would make some mistakes or spend a long
time learning those accounting standards, which cannot be measured and would influence
performance of harmonization of accounting standards. Tang (2000) claims that some managers
even felt that the cost of preparation and audit overweighed its advantages in the initial stage of
implementation. The second potential disadvantage of harmonization of accounting standards is
chaotic management for enterprises in China. As China is in a transitional period from a centrally
planned economy to a market economy, economic system has an impact on accounting and
accordingly

The sense of belonging is affected by various different factors such as understanding, past
experiences, choices, culture, relationships, and many more. Due to these factors, it can be harder
for some people to overcome the barriers of belonging. This movie Romulus, My Father
demonstrates how belonging can be difficult for numerous people, whilst it shows how other
people find it somewhat easier to belong. This movie is partly centred on the concept of affiliation,
and also the concept of exclusion through a range of various themes and some techniques. These
include: migrant experiences, sense of place, lack of understanding, and several others. A major
theme is the need to use compassion at all time, which includes making effort to truly

The low percentage of high school students, who successfully transition to college without requiring

notes that curriculum standards should align college and work expectation. Unfortunately, the

Who teaches the newly mapped curriculum to your staff? We have a Teacher Leadership Council,
formally a Curriculum Council, whose job it is to lead department colleagues in the writing,
implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and assessment. All committees require one
administrator (Minnich). In a similar manner, higher education and K through 12 both have
procedures in place through DACUM facilitators and Leadership Council members. The level of
development differs between institutions due to the level of education and training obtained by
those leading and planning invigorating ideas that support change.
Is there an articulation between grade levels? Yes, we have vertical collaboration meetings between
grade levels on a regular basis. This includes meetings between the same subject areas in other
buildings to ensure that the curriculum is aligned from one level to the next (Minnich). However,

Impact Of Disaster On The World
Impacts of Disaster It was just a normal day for me. I followed my daily routine. I woke up, had
breakfast and was ready to prepare for my finals. Just when I was planning tomorrow s schedule,
suddenly, I felt a jolt. My whole body trembled and before I could figure out what was going on,
books started to fall from my shelves and pictures hanging on the walls started falling. When I
looked out of my window, the surrounding area was filled with dirt and smoke. I saw people
running in the middle of the road to save themselves from that disaster. Immediately I ran outside
of my room. Just like myself, my parents and my brother were also running for their life. On the
way, my father lead us towards the back of our house, where there was some empty space to protect
ourselves from the disaster. I had just experienced a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake. I have
never thoughtthat a high magnitude earthquake would ever come in this way. Literally, the whole
thing was shaking heavily. Even when we were observing from outside, the TV antenna on the top
of my house was still shaking. The high magnitude earthquake lasting for long time only lead to
one thing: enormous devastation of my city. All the things happening around me was like in the
2012 movie. Collapsing tall buildings, and temples along with death of numerous number of
peoples really shocked me. It was difficult for me to figure out what was going on around that field.

American Conflicted About Lying
Lying If someone were asked if they lied before , the majority answer would show that most have
and if they answered no then they just showed evidence that most people lie. There are 4 articles
that each show there own unique opinion and stances on lying weather they are in favor of it or
not. Lying is usually perceived as unjust and unethical but can be used as a way to protect others.
To begin with, sometimes people can t handle honesty. The article It s the Truth:Americans

disagree because feeling guilty is not as bad as both people being hurt. Also, memorizing details
of a lie could easily be avoided by keeping the lie simple. The article Rejecting All Lies:Immanuel

Themes Of Dehumanization In The Pianist
How does Roman Polanski portray the theme of dehumanisation of Jews in the film, the Pianist?
The 2002 film, the Pianist directed by Roman Polanski is based on a real life story, that entails of
a man s struggle and experiences to withstand the German invasion in Warsaw, during World War 2.
Wladyslaw Szpilman is a Jewish musician who has everything taken away from him and is forced
to survive and hide. Implemented with temperamental and compelling scenes of the horrific
behaviours displayed by the Nazi s towards the Jews, Polanski presents the theme of the
dehumanisation of Jews. Polanski portrays the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman with a dark humour
and a raw determination for survival. In order to maintain this essence of the theme thoroughly
within the film, Polanski utilizes narrative elements and cinematic techniques such as, high angle,
setting and characterisation to help achieve this. The cinematography within a film enables the
viewers to be taken into a journey, showing different perspectives as well as, evoking different
emotions along the way. During the introduction scene of wasteland, Polanski uses high angle to
portray the theme of the dehumanisation of Jews within a deconstructed city. This scene starts with
a high angle showing Szpilman in the middle of the streets among the endless ruins of houses.
Polanski used high angle to emphasize Szpilman s loneliness, as he is seen in a deserted
destination with no one else in sight. The high angle is used to show

What does Nietzsche s Mr. Daredevil Curiosity report, when he metaphorically peers into the
workshop within which moral ideals are fabricated (GM I.14)? How convincing are his claims?
Humanity, according to Nietzsche, is infected by an illness. It is the kind of illness that has
infected every single man, religious or non religious alike. It is his aim to release his readers
from the illness. In much the same way as a doctor, he wishes to do so by primarily sourcing the
cause of the illness, and secondly by diagnosing it. It is Nietzsche s belief that this metaphoric
illness is morality.
It is a striking project; comprised of three essays each with the aim of stripping the reader s pre
conceptions of morality, and instead offering the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Continuing the image, Nietzsche refers to some unseen people talking in hushed tones in the
workshop. In this workshop where ideals are made, weakness is being praised as achievement and
impotence into goodness . It is in this revelation Nietzsche expects his readers to be shocked, and
even angry, that their morals are based upon lies.
The Inner workings of the workshop. How our morals have changed over time
Thus far I have explained Nietzsche s notion that our moral system is based upon a set of lies
fabricated by a group of people. At this point in the essay I am happy to accept Nietzsche s
observation that our morals are perhaps not quite what they may seem on the surface. Having
accepted Nietzsche s first proposition ( that our system of morals are perhaps not quite as they
seem), I will now evaluate his reasoning.
Nietzsche begins his account by identifying two basic types of evaluative moral outlook: Master
morality and Slave morality . Master morality refers to moral codes descended from the
aristocratic classes, and slave morality to moral codes descended from the weak and poor herd.
Master morality is characterised by the value opposition of good and bad. Goodness is dependent

The Black Colleges And Universities Essay
Double consciousness describes the individual sensation of feeling as though your identity is
divided into several parts, making it impossible to have one unified identity (Understanding
W.E.B DuBois, n.d.). This proposal was brought forth by W.E.B Bois. He believed that African
American s were struggling with these repressed feelings of not knowing who they are; they
could not combine their African background with their now developed American identity. This
concept was developed in 1903, but is still very relevant today; one may be able to relate the
relevance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCU) to this theory/ conclusion. At a
Historically Black College or University, an individual has the ability to further their education. I
decide to attend Virginia Union University to gain a better understanding of my history, to bond
with others within the black community, and to profit from the HBCU experience. While attending
a Virginia Union University, I am able to further my education while gaining a better understanding
of my history. HBCU s emerged at the conclusion of the Civil War. The constant debate on the
importance of educating African Americans was at its peak. Whether it was industrial or liberal
education, former slaves knew that it was a vital skill to obtain. Although the government passed
the Morrill Act in 1862, providing each state with a facility for higher learning, African Americans
were not able to attend these white facilities. It was

Bmw, A Brand Image Of Luxury And Performance
BRAND INVENTORY
According to Interbrand, BMW is the 11th best global brand of 2015, with a brand value estimated
at $37,212 million. Its success can be credit to the high quality of products and service, innovative
engineering technology, and a well constructed marketing strategy that built a brand image of luxury
and performance.
Brand Elements
BMW, abbreviation of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (Bavarian Motor Works, in English), is a
simple but distinctive brand name. The company s name is meaningful and reinforces an important
attribute of its products: the high quality engine. The shortened form makes the brand name easier
to recall.
The brand logo, known as Roundel, combines a symbol with the company s name. The blue and
white represent the colors of Bavarian flag. The round shape and arrangement of the letters were
inspired by the Rapp logo, the aircraft engine manufacturer that preceded BMW. Thus, the
distinctive logo symbolizes the heritage behind the brand. It has been updated along the years
(1917, 1933, 1953, 1979, and 2000) and the most recent adaption brought a modern aspect to the
logo.
BMW has a memorable and recognizable slogan in the United States: The Ultimate Driving
Machine , which captures the features of luxury and performance in only one product. The 40
years old trademarked slogan is simple, descriptive and represents its positioning. The worldwide
BMW slogan Sheer Driving Pleasure indicates the good experience consumers have when are

The Failure Of Communism
Virtually every Communist experiment including Russia s ultimately failed. Today Communism
survives in just a handful of countries China, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cuba and even there it is

price of making significant concessions to capitalism (Results)1. Although striving for success in
the work class, Communismmostly brings negative results, whether through oppression, or even the

Also, most of these reactions have been out of fear. The creation of an actual communist nation
led to much unrest and suspicion toward Communists in the United States and other Capitalist
countries. This dissention was the product of the fact that Communism is firmly against
Capitalism. The First Red Scare took place in 1919 1920. It was a widespread fear of
Bolshevism and anarchism (Red Scare)9. It intensified following an anarchist bomb plot in 1919.
The paranoia became so bad that Bolshevism was marked as the explanation for all social order.
After World War II, a Second Red Scare emerged. The second Red Scare refers to the fear of
communism that permeated American politics, culture, and society from the late 1940s through the
1950s, during the opening phases of the Cold War with the Soviet Union (Second Red Scare)10. It
lasted considerably longer than the 1st Red Scare. Senator Joe McCarthy used this period of
suspicion to his advantage by creating a list of 250 Communists working in the State Dept. in the
hopes of being reelected. His claim was bogus, his numbers constantly changed, and he never once
identified any person guilty of disloyalty. He did create an increased atmosphere of paranoia and
hysteria in the United States until the Senate finally censured him after the Army McCarthy
hearings in 1954 (McCarthyism)11. The Cold War

Informative Speech For Human Trafficking
All lives matter.
What s the word that describes someone who thinks that the world revolves around them? Self
centered? Egocentric? Narcissist? Vain? Self seeking? Selfish? Hm. Is that too harsh? We live in
society today where we are only concerned about ourselves. Somehow, we have adopted the
mentality that life revolves strictly around me and what I want. We are so consumed with
ourselves that we have totally forgotten about the thousands of people who struggle every day for
their life. Who are these people that I am talking about? The people who are promised a better life
but instead are trapped into this terrible system where they are forced to do things they never knew
about. This system is called Human trafficking. Today, I would like to convince you that this world
does not revolve around you. What exactly is human trafficking? We have all heard of it, but what
actually is it. It s a modern form of slavery. It involves controlling a person through force, fraud, or
coercion to exploit the victim for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or both. It strips victims of
their freedom and violates our nation s promise that every person in the U.S. is guaranteed basic
human rights. This is a crime (Beccera). Sadly, the United States is widely regarded as a
destination country for human trafficking. According to the federal reports, nearly 14,500 to
17,500 victims are trafficked in the United States annually. That doesn t even include the number of
victims that are trafficked WITHIN the United States. If you are looking for a defined definition of
human trafficking, California legislatures states it as being ALL acts involved in the recruitment,
abduction, transport, harboring, transfer, sale or receipt of persons, within national or across
international borders, through force, coercion, fraud or deception, to place persons in situations of
slavery or slavery like conditions, forced labor or services, such as forced prostitution or sexual
services, domestic servitude, bonded sweatshop labor, or other debt bondage. (Beccera) This is a
crime that needs to come to an end. While we look at human trafficking as just one thing, there are
various types of this crime. One, is sex trafficking. When you hear of

Federal Budget Dbq
The Preamble and Federal Budget: Are we slicing the pie correctly? The federal budget is the
yearly plan for how the US government will spend the money it takes from taxes and borrowing.
After thoroughly analyzing the federal budget from 2012, it is unquestionably evident that a
majority of the money is being put into a few major categories, leaving room for the rest of the
smaller categories to be financially neglected. Is this fair? It seems that the money could be more
fairly distributed, and that there is room for cuts in some of the larger categories, to improve the
littler ones. In each of the three budget clusters, the US Government should make adjustments in the
way it is distributing money; changes involving the big five, the middle... Show more content on

This category includes: Natural Resources and Environment, NASA, Energy, FBI, and National
Park Service. National resources and environment, energy, and the FBI all play a vast role in
supporting the nation s preamble by ensuring the general welfare of the people and providing
common defense. That leaves NASA and the National Park Service, and seeing as the national
park service receives the smallest amount out of all the categories as is, it seems illogical that
any money be taken from there. It is rather alarming; however, that NASA is receiving the
second largest amount of money of the five in the little guys. As cool as NASA is, it isn t a
necessity for the country, and the money could probably be way better spent. The changes I would
make to the little guys would be to cut NASA s budget and either give the money to the FBI or the

A Slave Legend, The Algonquin Cinderella, And Tam And Cam
We all know Cinderella, the girl whose step mother and sisters were horrendous to her. In the end
she gets the prince, of course. These tales don t follow that same story line. Their personalities,
royal future, their father figure, and the magic in the stories all differ. These four Cinderella tales
are Aschenputtel, The Twelve Months: A Slave Legend, The Algonquin Cinderella

Their differences are from their fathers and royalty. In Aschenputtel, her father favors the

character s father is not included in the story at all. When she comes back, she meets a farmer. The
farmer is considered the royal aspect in this tale. Their differences are what makes the story lines
completely different, but have the same concept which is, good wins in the end. The other two tales
being analyzed are The Algonquin Cinderella and Tam and Cam. These tales have more differences
than similarities. Their similarity is within the magic. The magic is based off of the ideals of the

In Tam and Cam it is within her religion, Buddhism. They are similar because they are social
strengths based on the time and culture. Another similarity they have is that each tale is full of
culture. In each tale the magical aspects are culturally based. In Tam and Cam it is shown in

The Pros And Cons Of Anderson Water System
As we dive into the last weeks of summer, you may have heard about the water issues that have been
plaguing the Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. As Anderson Water Systems, a Rochester, NY
based water purification and filtration company, summarizes it, the waterways of the city have been
used as dumping grounds for garbage, sewage, and toxic chemicals for years, leaving the water
polluted and contaminated. Despite the assurances of the International Olympic Committee and the
recent opening of a new sewage treatment plant, various sailing teams are continuing to err on the
side of extreme caution, making sure to close their mouths so that water won t spray up into them
and washing their clothes with special antibacterial cleansers and detergents.... Show more content

Many American homes could benefit from water purification and filtration systems. Anderson
Water Systems explains that although municipal water systems have come a long way in terms of
water purification, there are still other possible sources that can cause unclean waters. Having been
in business for more than 60 years, they want you to be aware that old pipes can carry traces of
lead and that natural deposits and groundwater can contain various chemicals like arsenic, iron.
To combat these issues, Anderson Water Systems has crafted filtration systems that will purify the
water before you come in contact with it. By utilizing reverse osmosis, these systems can filter out
any contaminants and impurities. Whether we re drinking it from a tall glass or soaking in it in
the tub, water is such an integral aspect of our daily lives. Thanks to Anderson Water Systems, not
only will the water be cleaner and healthier, it will also taste much better.

All About Religion and Spirituality
Question 1 What is Religion?
Before deciding on the definition, I considered religion as being an organised system of beliefs,
ceremonies and rules to worship a god or a higher being . The only phrase that I agreed with was
the fact of religion being an organised system mainly because of the fact that there is a set way of
practising the religion by, for example, praying and attending mass. In contradiction, the rest of the
definition makes it seem as if religion is straight forward on a community basis, in contrast to a
personal one. Use of a god or a higher being contradicts the idea of polytheism, associated with
religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism (Theism.net, 2014).
As a result, I believe that the best definition of religion is a set of guidelines that defines who you
are, whether or not you worship a god or gods. Religion varies from person to person and is based
on personal faith and it is also greater than its followers and allows individuals to explore the true
meaning of life (Nguyen and Ibaviosa et al., 2014)
The reason I chose this definition is due to the fact that it is a collaborative definition that has been
compiled by utilising elements of other definitions about the word. This means that various
perspectives of the meaning of religion have been taken into consideration, which therefore means
that people are more likely to accept it. However, another reason that this definition stands out in
particular is the greater than its followers

The Doha Round s Trade Negotiations
The Doha round s trade negotiations over intellectual property have been long and arduous. After
more than a decade there is still no agreement over the extent of patent protection that should be
afforded to pharmaceuticals. The shadow of the future adds additional complications, as the
involved parties have no reason to settle now, when they can wait and hope for more favorable
terms in the future. Despite this looming threat, the future holds promise for a drug access
settlement. As technology improves and trade agreements become more ubiquitous, it will create a
larger zone of agreement between the parties, making it easier to settle the dispute.
The World Trade Organization(WTO) is a plurilateral body of 159 countries dedicated to the
liberalization of world trade. Countries that ascend to the WTO agree to provisions that all other
members have already agreed to, including like the reduction of tariffs, non discrimination,
transparency, and reciprocity. Consensus is difficult between 159 countries, and so agreements can
be hard to reach. This consensus has been especially difficult during the Doha round. Opened in
2001, talks have been stalled over disagreements between countries, chiefly over intellectual
property protections. Without an agreement, the WTO is forced into a stagnant role until the
negotiations are completed.
A consensus on intellectual property protections is difficult because there are a lot of relevant
actors involved in negotiations with

Symbolism In Young Goodman Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne
The American writer, Mark Twain, wrote that, Every man is a moon and has a [dark] side which
he turns toward nobody; you have to slip around behind if you want to see it. His words explain
that there are flaws and faults that every person hides from others. In order to see it one has to
look for it by first plunging themselves into their own darkness before seeing that of others. This is
seen in Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel Hawthornein which a man travels away from his
wife with a mysterious companion into a dark forest for one night. The main character discovers
that the whole town has gathered together; from heads from churches to people he is close to, he
finds them in the forest worshipping sin, and his idea of a pure town of God worshipers is destroyed,
shocking the main character, leaving him to live in misery and distrust for years. In Nathaniel
Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author uses literary elements such as symbolism,
characterization, and theme to develop romanticism in his text.
At the start of the story, the author uses symbols to cultivate the idea of religion and how it
intertwines with sinful acts, ultimately leading to the misery and mistrust of Goodman Brown.
Beginning with the main character s wife, the author uses her to symbolize the faith of Goodman
Brown. The narrator explains that Goodman Brown is leaving his wife (named Faith) for one
night to journey into the dark forest (25). His wife embodies the idea of religion and his

church because it simply doesn t hold their attention. 42 percent don t go because they think it s not

The Isotope Of A Isotope Analysis
The scholarly article that I have chosen that depicts an isotope analysis is based on the
stable isotope Carbon, found in nectar beverages. The main method measures the carbon of C3
photosynthetic cycle in commercial apple flavored nectars, which then has the determination
of the exact legal limit to identify the beverages that do not conform to safety standards that
were previously set by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply. The
term adulteration is used in the article. Adulteration is essentially the contamination that is in
foods and beverages and the challenges that the industries face is a wide issue known today.
According to (RICARDO; FILHO; GASTONI; CARLOS, 2013), To identify such adulteration, the
isotope analysis is the most sophisticated and specific technique used in the food and
beverages area. Stable isotope techniques have been used by official institutions in the quality
control of beverages as an instrument of tax assessment for fraudulent products. This goes
back to show how sophisticated the methods are with respect to quality control in the
beverage environment.
The methodology for the determination of the carbon isotope ratio (13C/12C) is based on
a mixture of compounds produced from plants of the C3 photosynthetic cycle (apple,
grape, orange, etc.) and C4 (sugarcane, corn, etc.). The C3 vegetables have relative
isotope enrichment (δ13C) from 22.00 to 34.00 per mil (‰). In C4 vegetables, the

The Perception Of A Social Group
The ability to manipulate perception when it comes to social movements or collective action is
key. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. It not
only determines what a social group will do to invoke change, it will also affect how a society
will agree or disagree with the change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as
framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read
from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that
it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and
need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and
finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point
highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any
given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does
collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is
the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow
and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a
response. In the each of the three steps mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be
a framing of a situation as problematic and

The Negative Consequences Of The Communication Of...
Currently, there are many individuals and organizations whose goal is to communicate scientific
knowledge to the public through different forms of media. However, there are advantages and
negative consequences that are present with almost every different form of media. In this essay, the
communication of scientific knowledge will be examined through a Deutsche Welle (DW)
documentary called Myths and facts about diabetes by Hanna PГјtz and a TEDTalk called The
surprisingly charming science of your gut by Giulia Enders.
To begin with, the DW Akademie was started in 1965 in Rwanda from a radio technician program
but has now become Germany s main international media organization. However, even after their
rise to popularity, the beliefs of the organization has not changed. The organization believes in the
freedom of press and the freedom of expression. As a result, the organization s mission is to ensure
that their media is transparent and to ensure a high quality of journalism (Deutsche Welle, n.d.).
Although it is not stated on their main web page, it can be assumed that they are not a non profit
organization as they are a media company.
In the documentary, the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes are discussed as well as the
causes and solutions to the diseases. The positive aspects of the documentary are that the
information on diabetes that they presented is simple for viewers to understand, regardless of their
background in science. For instance, the host Dr.

Mindfulness Meditation In Public Schools
CONCERNS
There is increased interest toward mindfulness meditation, particularly in education. A number of
school programs have emerged claiming improvements in the following areas: executive functions,
prosociality, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing (Broderick and Frank, 2014; Flook et al.
2010; Schonert Reichl and Lawlor, 2010). Oddly, very few risks were reported in the studies. In a
systematic review of twenty four mindfulness based school interventions, overall results show
students either benefited from the interventions or gained no effect. Negligible negative effects
were reported (Zenner, Herrnleben Kurz and Walach, 2014). It is important to consider the

For example, a Vancouver father launched a petition calling for the withdrawal of all meditation
programs from public schools alleging that such programs, imposed on children, violate their
freedom of religion (Chwartkowski, 2016). However, Canda and Furnam (as cited in Napoli et al.
2005)) claim that the practices of mindfulness meditation, such as mindful breathing, are compatible
with all religious beliefs.
CONCLUSION
This essay has looked at the relationship between mindfulness and optimal functioning in the school
setting and used the PROSPER framework proposed by Noble and McGrath (2015), as it illustrates
effectively the many dimensions of student flourishing.
In a world of fast paced and instant communication, it is necessary to teach children and teens to
stop and be quiet, and the most propitious times to do so are in the periods of life where brain
plasticity is higher, namely, early childhood and adolescence (Galla, Kaiser Greenland and Black,
2016).
Mindfulness interventions show promise as a cost effective strategy to promote both academic
success and wellbeing in children and adolescents, as any increase in self control and executive
functions, even small, may yield bigger outcomes over the years (Moffitt et al.

Russian Organized Crime Essay
Russian Organized Crime (ROC)
The term Russian organized crime (ROC) refers to criminal groups from the 15 republics which
comprised the former Soviet Union. ROC has existed for 20 years in the United States but during
the last five years law enforcement authorities have observed a distinct increase in their criminal
activities. Criminals from the former Soviet Union have established their networks in major cities
and are also emerging in some smaller cities. ROC groups are involved in murder, money

Ivankov spent approximately ten years in a Russian prison before bribing his way out. Russian
authorities speculated that Ivankov came to the United States to organize the existing networks of
Russian criminals operating within the United States, including California. He was arrested in June
1995 in New York for attempting to extort $3.5 million from an investment firm operated by two
Russian Г©migrГ©s. In January 1997, Ivankov was sentenced to over nine years in prison for
conspiracy to commit extortion.
Law enforcement authorities have identified varying levels of organization and sophistication
among these criminal networks, ranging from professional organizations with an identifiable
structure to loosely aligned criminal networks and amateur criminals who periodically assist in
criminal activities. The professional groups generally have an established allegiance to a leader
and follow a criminal code. Prior to passage of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970, the
investigation and prosecution of organized criminal groups had not been conducted in a
coordinated manner. Congress passed RICO with the specific intent of combating the infiltration of
organized crime into legitimate businesses. Providing a wide range of criminal and civil sanctions

Indie Film Research Paper
In the world of film making, female directors are rather scarce. It s easy to find a great actress,

personally love giving to Kickstarter campaigns (especially films) because I love supporting the

Marketing Strategy Of A Business At Home N America And The...
Many International firms competed to enter the vast China market for franchising and expanding
their products and services in a market which offers a wide scope of business opportunities mainly
the size of its population and the openness of China on the Western world after so many years of
its protectionist policies. In this respect, Levendary CafГ©, a huge American leading Company
operating in fast foodlike other American companies such as McDonalds and Kentucky Fried
Chicken is trying its chance to enter the China market but there are some discrepancy of views
between the top management of the Company at home n America and the appointed manager to
run the Levendary CafГ© operations in China, Louis Chen and the new CEO Mia Foster. The new
CEO faces many issues to deal with, the design and look of the Levendary outlets which Chen has
changed and even used some plastic chairs in some outlets to the discontent and disapproval of the
top management of the parent Company in America
When leading companies are established as franchised investing companies in foreign countries as
is the case of Levendary CafГ© , they care to see that their objectives, strategies and approaches to
business are implemented as per the requirements of the parent Company at home where it started
before going International. Therefore the appointed agent or representatives of the Company shall
abide by the requirements and objectives of the Company and shall refer to the parent Company in
America.

Comparing Muir And Wordsworth
Naturalism is a style and theory of representation based on the accurate depiction of detail. These
writers use several different techniques of writing. The one most often used by the two is using
nature to represent emotion. In Muir s essay and Wordsworth s poem, both writers have expressed
their relationships with naturethrough poetry and diction.
Firstly, Muir and Wordsworth use both similar and different techniques when they write. Muir
wrote an essay that often used hopeful tones called The Calypso Borealis . He used dialect as well
to represent the way people he met spoke: Mony a puir body has been lost in that muckle, cauld,
dreary bog and never been found. By using dialect, he was able to bring accents and poor speech to
life.

The Effects Of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho In The Horror...
The Effects of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho in the Horror Film Genre
Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho is one of the foundational films in cinema, especially in the horror
genre. The film set new box office records around the world and received 4 OSCAR nominations.
The movie is characterized by plot simplicity, a small cast, new effects, and a handful of locations.
In the plot, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals 40,000 dollars from her employer to spend it with
her boyfriend and ends up in an isolated motel where she meets the proprietor, Norman Bates, who
ushers her in a friendly way. The young woman is later brutally murdered without an explanation,
turning the film into a mystery. The subsequent events indicate that Norman has been hiding a most
bizarre secret. A secret that, at the time, no one watching the film would have guessed. Since its
release in 1960, the movie has had a significant influence on film making and audiences alike.
Psycho changed the way movies worked by owning up to the notion that rather than existing as a
dream to be inhabited, movies are a game to be played. This paper will demonstrate just how
profoundly the movie Psycho has affected the film industry.
Tactical Changes in Video Production
Firstly, Psycho spearheaded one of the most decisive changes in censorship. Psycho was of movie
of many firsts, including the first movie in history to show a toilet flushing on screen. At the time
of its production, censorship rules referred to as Motion Picture

Competing Compromising, Avoiding, And Accommodating
The five conflict styles would include: competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding, and
accommodating (Griffith Dunham, 2015, p.57). Competing occurs when there are not many
resources. This approach is considered a win lose ; A person may choose this approach on his own
without cooperating with anyone else (J.D., 2011).
Collaborative conflict is when you team up with someone else to achieve each other s goals (J.D.,
2011). By using this conflict you can end up with a win win situation. This conflict requires a lot of
trust among everyone involved (J.D., 2011).
Compromising conflict no one wins from this conflict it is considered a lose lose situation (J.D.,
2011). With compromising conflict no one achieves what they want. Compromising

Cyytotoxicity Of Nannodisc
Cytotoxicity of nanodisc trapped/remodeled AпЃў1 40 intermediates The structural analysis of
nanodisc bound AпЃў1 40 В¬suggests the formation of intermediate conformation with typical
пЃўпЂsheet structures driven by the PMA. We next characterized the toxicity of these AпЃў1 40
intermediates in human neuroblastoma (SH SY5Y) cells. Results showed substantial cytotoxic
behavior of PMA in solution with a cell viability loss of ≈ 40 % at 2.5 п
ЃM. The AпЃў1 40
monomer and fibers (2.5 пЃM) incubated with equimolar PMA also showed a nearly equivalent
cell cytotoxicity as that of the free PMA. In contrast, the PMA bound nanodiscs (Fig 5b) such as
DMPC/GM1 (4:1) and DMPC (100 %) showed a relatively low cytotoxicity ( ≈ 10 %). On the

Analysis Of Maus By Art Spiegelman
Does any human actually want to take responsibilities for the mistakes they made? Doesn t
every human want to feel bad for themselves when they make what the consider a mistake? Many
people were traumatized by a horrific event that they were forced into, while their friends and
family were all being killed and forced to work against their will for the Nazi s. While many
people were affected, not all of them were able to fully explain how hurt they were as it was
something that was not easy to talk about for them. In a graphic novel called Maus, the author Art
Spiegelman is trying to connect to his father and understand the hardships he went through during a
hard time called the Holocaust. The author starts to talk about the Holocaust with his father and
starts to learn how hard it was for his father, Vladek and his now deceased mother, Anja. His father
and mother fought to not go into the camps until the last second, doing anything possible to stay
away from them whether it meant lying or hiding with the rest of their family. When discussing
this with his father he wanted to be able to tell his father s story for him, as he was never able to
do it himself. Not only does Spiegelman just tell his story with words, he tells it with pictures
through a graphic novel, using unique techniques with the illustrations in order to explain how
broken humanrelationships were at this time period. Art Spiegelman represents humans as being
accustomed to animalistic behaviors as he

Essential Oil Remedies
What To Know About Using Essential Oils As Home Remedies
Essential oils are the perfect home remedies. You don t need a prescription to buy them, they are
useful for a variety of ailments, and they are safe if you use them as intended. They have many
purposes from aromatherapy to pain relief and skin care. Here s what you need to know about
using essential oils.
Buy The Right Oils
It s extremely important to buy high quality oils. Make sure you buy essential oil and not perfume
oil. Read the label carefully to ensure the oil you buy is safe to ingest if that is your goal. Find a
quality supplier of high grade essential oils, so you never have to worry about buying a diluted or
contaminated product from your local store.
For example, frankincense is a popular oil that s used for a variety of medical conditions such as
arthritis, bronchitis, and acne. However, it s also a popular flagrance that s used to make incense,
perfume, and body lotions. Fragrance oils are less expensive and should not be taken internally.
Frankincense essential oil is costly. It is used by the drop and it is safe to take by mouth.
Reasons To Use The Oils... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, you need to match the oil to the condition you are trying to treat. Lavender is an
excellent oil for relaxing you right before bedtime. Tea tree oil is a good natural antiseptic to use
for cleansing your skin. You can use essential oils along with traditional medical treatments. You
should let your doctor know what you take, but you don t need to stop conventional treatments if
you want to try essential oils to help you heal. The oils can complement other therapies such as
taking ginger oil to combat nausea during chemotherapy. Stock your medicine cabinet with a few
basic oils so you ll always have something on hand to treat cuts, burns, stomach upsets, and

Swot Analysis Netflix
Netflix is a company known around the world. It started with humble beginnings, and popped on
the scene and not only reinvented the way we watch movies at home, but took over the industry.
In this case I will analyze the Video On Demand or VOD industry using Porter s Five Forces
Model and conduct a SWOT analysis on Netflix. I will also discuss why Netflix has been so
successful, what their competitive advantages are, some of my personal recommendations, and
finally any strategic advantages CEO Reed Hastings should pursue on the future. Using Porter s
Five Forces Model I am going to analyze the VOD industry, Porter s model is made up of
economic powers of customers, economic power of suppliers, direct competitors, potential
competitors, and finally firms that offer substitutes. In the VOD industry I believe the customer
have a high economic power. The top three streaming services in the industry are, Netflix, Hulu,
and Amazon Video Services. If the customer deems the price too high they can simply leave, and
because customers aren t required to sign a contact they can simply stop services. Which will
cause the number of users to fall and profits to decrease as well. Next in Porter s model is
economic power of suppliers. The industry as a whole is very large, Netflix had 76 million users
in 2016, Amazon had 44 million in 2015, and Hulu had 9 million in 2015. The suppliers (Netflix,
Amazon, and Hulu) don t have a huge power, across the board all three services are

Sexually Transmitted Diseases In The United States
Syphilis, AIDS, herpes, these are something no one wants, unfortunately, thousands live day to day
in hiding with these diseases. The number of reported sexually transmitted disease, also known as
venereal disease, have greatly increased since the mid 1900s. There are roughly twenty five
different types of sexually transmitted diseases in the United States that we encounter, such as HIV,
AIDS, genital warts, chlamydia, herpes, gonorrhea, hepatitis, syphilis, vaginitis and trichomonas s.
In most states today, medically, accurate sex education is required to be taught in public schools to
the youth community at some point to educate about the uncaring world of sexual diseases.
However, the processes to educate our youth are simply outdated... Show more content on

There are many sites that parents need to talk to their children about and regulate such as
facebook, snap chat, Instagram, Hot or Not, You tube, skype and twitter are just a few. This has
become more of a challenge for parents to protect their children. The youth today do not realize
the dangers that they may encounter on a daily basis. In the United States all states allow minors
to consent to their own health services for sexually transmitted diseases. Today children are
developing at a much faster rate and having sex at an earlier age unlike previous generations.
Some of the action items that we can do to help reduce the occurrences in our youth is to have
them tested yearly and educate our youth on the causes and prevention methods. There are
injections that help prevent some of the STD s such as the HPV vaccination. Scientist are still
doing research on more vaccines that may later on be able to help reduce these diseases. But until
then we need to make sure that our children are equipped with the knowledge about these diseases.
Most of the youth do not realize that by using barriers such as condoms, birth control, or topical

Lucid Dreamer
I am a lucid dreamer. The dream is like an image in person s mind. I often dream of perusing my
goals. It is a powerful tool that guides me always. My parents always encourage me to dream and
think life in a visual image that helps me to move forward. However, sometimes I fail toward my
dreams and fall down. Eventually, I defeat all sarcastic situations with the help of courage that I get
from my Parents, Professors, and Friends. I like to be a visual thinker. Going to another gathering
of individuals is dependably somewhat alarming, and most would fear an exchange to a place
where they have hardly any colleagues, however I am sure of my capacity to mix in with the
campus community and make an important commitment and contribution.

  • 4. Anna Karenina Sparknotes Anna Karenina: Comparative Analysis Name Institutional Affiliation Anna Karenina: Comparative Analysis Introduction Anna Karenina is a 19th century novel written by Leo Tolstoy. The book narrates a story about family bonds, love and culture. The tale focuses on two specific characters. These characters are Anna Karenina and Konstantin Levin. Anna is an urban housewife married to a politician. Initially, she is the reasonable person since she acts as a mediator during the conflict faced by the Oblonsky family whereby Anna s brother was unfaithful to her wife. She is able to reunite the couple, Stiva and Dolly, even though there were issues based on infidelity. Nonetheless, Anna too succumbed to temptation and fell in love with a soldier called Vronsky, yet, she was a married woman. Their lustful relationship continues until Anna s husband discovers her deceit. Anna asks for a divorce but she is not granted at first. Finally, when her husband gives her the choice of divorcing him, she does not and moves to a different country with her lover. Anna gives birth to a child and when she returns to her town, she is shunned by society due to her illicit affair. On the other hand, Kitty, Dolly s sister, had her eye on Anna s lover. The feeling was not mutual and she ended up marrying Levin, the suitor she had shunned in preference for Vronsky. Ultimately, the main characters in the story find the true meaning of life. • 5. Frank Mccourt s Angelas Ashes Frank McCourt s Angela s Ashes is a memoir consisting of various memories and stories from Frank McCourt s childhood. As a child, Frank was deprived of many opportunities because of his social class; these limitations are what make Frank so determined to gain people s respect. The memoir takes place in New York, Frank s birthplace, and Ireland, where Frank spent the majority of his childhood. Franks childhood takes place in Limerick, Ireland during the times where poverty and social snobbery were common. Frank was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1930. Frank is the oldest of all his siblings. Soon after Frank is born his younger brother Malachy Jr. and a year later the twins Oliver and Eugene are born. With each addition to their family Malachy, Franks father, and Angela, Franks mother, are struggling to support their growing family. Different colours, religions, different morals and beliefs, and maybe most important different perspectives on the world. In both The Catcher in the Rye in The Kite Runner the male protagonist tells the course of events from their perspective, and their role as narrator has a significant impact on the novels In both The Catcher in the Rye, and The Kite Runner, first person narration played a critical role in helping the reader know and understand the main characters, Holden Caulfield Amir. He knew I d seen everything in that alley, that I d stood there and done nothing. He knew I had betrayed him and yet he was rescuing me once again, maybe for the last time. (Kite 9.29) This quote perfectly encapsulates Amir s feelings of extreme grief for what he did to Hassan. This is a recurring theme within the book, the reader sees the anxiety that Amir feels for betraying Hassan in the alley that day, and from that day he does his best to repent for his unatoned sins. Another importance of first person narrative within The Catcher in the Rye and The Kite Runner is it allows the reader to empathize with the characters of the novels. In both novels the narrator /main character is not the most likeable. Holden Caulfield is a very cynical and jaded narrator, and finds the hypocrisy and ugliness of the world around him almost unbearable, through his cynicism he tries to protect himself from the pain and disappointment of the adult world. Amir is a complex character like all protagonist narrator s are. He isn t all bad, but he has a crippled conscious, and makes very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Question: Examine the advantages and disadvantages for China of harmonization of accounting standards under the current economic and social system. With the development of economic globalization and capital markets, accounting standards based on a national system cannot satisfy the needs of users whose decisions are increasingly international. Therefore harmonization of accounting standards has become an inevitable choice for many countries. The Chinese government has introduced four sets of accounting standards and efforts continue to be made to bring its domestic accounting standards in line with international accounting standards, as a result of which numerous benefits have been brought about by the harmonization of accounting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A large amount of material, money and human resources have to be devoted in the process of institutional change and adaptation. For example, according to China Accounting Standards Committee (n.d.), in March 2003, the Committee hired 160 consultants in order to assist its institutional change. Given that there are about 12 million accountants in China (Ren 2009), if each one spends at least ¥1 on the retraining to adapt to the harmonizing accounting standards, the total amount of training costs would be ¥12 million. Though some costs of institutional change and adaptation can be reflected by figures, most of these costs are behind the scenes, so cannot be calculated. Adapting harmonizing accounting standards is neither an easy nor a rapid procedure. For instance, during the adaptation period, accountants would make some mistakes or spend a long time learning those accounting standards, which cannot be measured and would influence performance of harmonization of accounting standards. Tang (2000) claims that some managers even felt that the cost of preparation and audit overweighed its advantages in the initial stage of implementation. The second potential disadvantage of harmonization of accounting standards is chaotic management for enterprises in China. As China is in a transitional period from a centrally planned economy to a market economy, economic system has an impact on accounting and accordingly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just when I was planning tomorrow s schedule, suddenly, I felt a jolt. My whole body trembled and before I could figure out what was going on, books started to fall from my shelves and pictures hanging on the walls started falling. When I looked out of my window, the surrounding area was filled with dirt and smoke. I saw people running in the middle of the road to save themselves from that disaster. Immediately I ran outside of my room. Just like myself, my parents and my brother were also running for their life. On the way, my father lead us towards the back of our house, where there was some empty space to protect ourselves from the disaster. I had just experienced a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake. I have never thoughtthat a high magnitude earthquake would ever come in this way. Literally, the whole thing was shaking heavily. Even when we were observing from outside, the TV antenna on the top of my house was still shaking. The high magnitude earthquake lasting for long time only lead to one thing: enormous devastation of my city. All the things happening around me was like in the 2012 movie. Wladyslaw Szpilman is a Jewish musician who has everything taken away from him and is forced to survive and hide. Implemented with temperamental and compelling scenes of the horrific behaviours displayed by the Nazi s towards the Jews, Polanski presents the theme of the dehumanisation of Jews. Polanski portrays the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman with a dark humour and a raw determination for survival. In order to maintain this essence of the theme thoroughly within the film, Polanski utilizes narrative elements and cinematic techniques such as, high angle, setting and characterisation to help achieve this. The cinematography within a film enables the viewers to be taken into a journey, showing different perspectives as well as, evoking different emotions along the way. It is his aim to release his readers from the illness. In much the same way as a doctor, he wishes to do so by primarily sourcing the cause of the illness, and secondly by diagnosing it. At this point in the essay I am happy to accept Nietzsche s observation that our morals are perhaps not quite what they may seem on the surface. • 19. The Black Colleges And Universities Essay Double consciousness describes the individual sensation of feeling as though your identity is divided into several parts, making it impossible to have one unified identity (Understanding W.E.B DuBois, n.d.). This proposal was brought forth by W.E.B Bois. He believed that African American s were struggling with these repressed feelings of not knowing who they are; they could not combine their African background with their now developed American identity. This concept was developed in 1903, but is still very relevant today; one may be able to relate the relevance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCU) to this theory/ conclusion. At a Historically Black College or University, an individual has the ability to further their education. I decide to attend Virginia Union University to gain a better understanding of my history, to bond with others within the black community, and to profit from the HBCU experience. While attending a Virginia Union University, I am able to further my education while gaining a better understanding of my history. HBCU s emerged at the conclusion of the Civil War. The constant debate on the importance of educating African Americans was at its peak. Whether it was industrial or liberal education, former slaves knew that it was a vital skill to obtain. It was a widespread fear of Bolshevism and anarchism (Red Scare)9. It intensified following an anarchist bomb plot in 1919. The second Red Scare refers to the fear of communism that permeated American politics, culture, and society from the late 1940s through the 1950s, during the opening phases of the Cold War with the Soviet Union (Second Red Scare)10. It lasted considerably longer than the 1st Red Scare. • 24. Informative Speech For Human Trafficking All lives matter. What s the word that describes someone who thinks that the world revolves around them? Self centered? Egocentric? Narcissist? Vain? Self seeking? Selfish? Hm. Is that too harsh? We live in society today where we are only concerned about ourselves. Somehow, we have adopted the mentality that life revolves strictly around me and what I want. We are so consumed with ourselves that we have totally forgotten about the thousands of people who struggle every day for their life. Who are these people that I am talking about? The people who are promised a better life but instead are trapped into this terrible system where they are forced to do things they never knew about. This system is called Human trafficking. Today, I would like to convince you that this world does not revolve around you. What exactly is human trafficking? We have all heard of it, but what actually is it. It s a modern form of slavery. It involves controlling a person through force, fraud, or coercion to exploit the victim for forced labor, sexual exploitation, or both. It strips victims of their freedom and violates our nation s promise that every person in the U.S. is guaranteed basic human rights. This is a crime (Beccera). Sadly, the United States is widely regarded as a destination country for human trafficking. According to the federal reports, nearly 14,500 to 17,500 victims are trafficked in the United States annually. The federal budget is the yearly plan for how the US government will spend the money it takes from taxes and borrowing. After thoroughly analyzing the federal budget from 2012, it is unquestionably evident that a majority of the money is being put into a few major categories, leaving room for the rest of the smaller categories to be financially neglected. Is this fair? It seems that the money could be more fairly distributed, and that there is room for cuts in some of the larger categories, to improve the littler ones. • 28. All About Religion and Spirituality Question 1 What is Religion? Before deciding on the definition, I considered religion as being an organised system of beliefs, ceremonies and rules to worship a god or a higher being . The only phrase that I agreed with was the fact of religion being an organised system mainly because of the fact that there is a set way of practising the religion by, for example, praying and attending mass. In contradiction, the rest of the definition makes it seem as if religion is straight forward on a community basis, in contrast to a personal one. Use of a god or a higher being contradicts the idea of polytheism, associated with religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism (Theism.net, 2014). As a result, I believe that the best definition of religion is a set of guidelines that defines who you are, whether or not you worship a god or gods. Religion varies from person to person and is based on personal faith and it is also greater than its followers and allows individuals to explore the true meaning of life (Nguyen and Ibaviosa et al., 2014) The reason I chose this definition is due to the fact that it is a collaborative definition that has been compiled by utilising elements of other definitions about the word. This means that various perspectives of the meaning of religion have been taken into consideration, which therefore means that people are more likely to accept it. However, another reason that this definition stands out in particular is the greater than its followers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After more than a decade there is still no agreement over the extent of patent protection that should be afforded to pharmaceuticals. The shadow of the future adds additional complications, as the involved parties have no reason to settle now, when they can wait and hope for more favorable terms in the future. Despite this looming threat, the future holds promise for a drug access settlement. As technology improves and trade agreements become more ubiquitous, it will create a larger zone of agreement between the parties, making it easier to settle the dispute. The World Trade Organization(WTO) is a plurilateral body of 159 countries dedicated to the liberalization of world trade. Countries that ascend to the WTO agree to provisions that all other members have already agreed to, including like the reduction of tariffs, non discrimination, transparency, and reciprocity. Consensus is difficult between 159 countries, and so agreements can be hard to reach. This consensus has been especially difficult during the Doha round. Opened in 2001, talks have been stalled over disagreements between countries, chiefly over intellectual property protections. Without an agreement, the WTO is forced into a stagnant role until the negotiations are completed. • 30. Symbolism In Young Goodman Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne The American writer, Mark Twain, wrote that, Every man is a moon and has a [dark] side which he turns toward nobody; you have to slip around behind if you want to see it. His words explain that there are flaws and faults that every person hides from others. In order to see it one has to look for it by first plunging themselves into their own darkness before seeing that of others. This is seen in Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel Hawthornein which a man travels away from his wife with a mysterious companion into a dark forest for one night. The main character discovers that the whole town has gathered together; from heads from churches to people he is close to, he finds them in the forest worshipping sin, and his idea of a pure town of God worshipers is destroyed, shocking the main character, leaving him to live in misery and distrust for years. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, the author uses literary elements such as symbolism, characterization, and theme to develop romanticism in his text. At the start of the story, the author uses symbols to cultivate the idea of religion and how it intertwines with sinful acts, ultimately leading to the misery and mistrust of Goodman Brown. Beginning with the main character s wife, the author uses her to symbolize the faith of Goodman Brown. The narrator explains that Goodman Brown is leaving his wife (named Faith) for one night to journey into the dark forest (25). His wife embodies the idea of religion and his ... Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. This manipulation of perception is best defined as framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a response. • 40. Mindfulness Meditation In Public Schools CONCERNS There is increased interest toward mindfulness meditation, particularly in education. A number of school programs have emerged claiming improvements in the following areas: executive functions, prosociality, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing (Broderick and Frank, 2014; Flook et al. 2010; Schonert Reichl and Lawlor, 2010). Oddly, very few risks were reported in the studies. In a systematic review of twenty four mindfulness based school interventions, overall results show students either benefited from the interventions or gained no effect. Negligible negative effects were reported (Zenner, Herrnleben Kurz and Walach, 2014). It is important to consider the identification and detection of undesirable outcomes, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, a Vancouver father launched a petition calling for the withdrawal of all meditation programs from public schools alleging that such programs, imposed on children, violate their freedom of religion (Chwartkowski, 2016). However, Canda and Furnam (as cited in Napoli et al. 2005)) claim that the practices of mindfulness meditation, such as mindful breathing, are compatible with all religious beliefs. CONCLUSION This essay has looked at the relationship between mindfulness and optimal functioning in the school setting and used the PROSPER framework proposed by Noble and McGrath (2015), as it illustrates effectively the many dimensions of student flourishing. In a world of fast paced and instant communication, it is necessary to teach children and teens to stop and be quiet, and the most propitious times to do so are in the periods of life where brain plasticity is higher, namely, early childhood and adolescence (Galla, Kaiser Greenland and Black, 2016). Mindfulness interventions show promise as a cost effective strategy to promote both academic success and wellbeing in children and adolescents, as any increase in self control and executive functions, even small, may yield bigger outcomes over the years (Moffitt et al. ... ROC has existed for 20 years in the United States but during the last five years law enforcement authorities have observed a distinct increase in their criminal activities. Criminals from the former Soviet Union have established their networks in major cities and are also emerging in some smaller cities. ROC groups are involved in murder, money laundering, extortion, auto theft, weapons smuggling, narcotics trafficking, prostitution, counterfeiting currency, and a multitude of complex fraud schemes. This group existed throughout the Soviet era and is a formidable threat there today. Ivankov spent approximately ten years in a Russian prison before bribing his way out. Russian authorities speculated that Ivankov came to the United States to organize the existing networks of Russian criminals operating within the United States, including California. He was arrested in June 1995 in New York for attempting to extort $3.5 million from an investment firm operated by two Russian Г©migrГ©s. In January 1997, Ivankov was sentenced to over nine years in prison for conspiracy to commit extortion. Law enforcement authorities have identified varying levels of organization and sophistication among these criminal networks, ranging from professional organizations with an identifiable structure to loosely aligned criminal networks and amateur criminals who periodically assist in criminal activities. The professional groups generally have an established allegiance to a leader and follow a criminal code. Prior to passage of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970, the investigation and prosecution of organized criminal groups had not been conducted in a coordinated manner. Congress passed RICO with the specific intent of combating the infiltration of organized crime into legitimate businesses. Providing a wide range of criminal and civil sanctions to control organized criminal activities, prosecutors employ RICO to imprison heads of crime ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Indie Film Research Paper In the world of film making, female directors are rather scarce. It s easy to find a great actress, but all too often, men fill the role of director, and women get overlooked. In the world of independent or indie films, there are often more opportunities for women to get involved, and it just so happens that is where we find Crystal Faith Scott. Recently, I happened upon her work, and I realized that she was just the kind of person to not only shed light on her crowdfunded feature for which she is actively raising support, but she was the ideal person to highlight the importance of indie films as well as women s role in this dynamic industry. What inspired you to get into the world of acting/entertainment? I started acting when I was 7 years old. I was shy, so my mom put me in a local children s theater to help me overcome my shyness! I personally love giving to Kickstarter campaigns (especially films) because I love supporting the arts, and instead of giving a donation to a large arts organization, it just feels more special and meaningful for me to give to an independent artist s project directly. Plus, as a backer I feel very personally involved in the project, and it s so exciting and satisfying to follow the project after they make their goal and then watch it become an actual film. The one most often used by the two is using nature to represent emotion. In Muir s essay and Wordsworth s poem, both writers have expressed their relationships with naturethrough poetry and diction. Firstly, Muir and Wordsworth use both similar and different techniques when they write. Muir wrote an essay that often used hopeful tones called The Calypso Borealis . He used dialect as well to represent the way people he met spoke: Mony a puir body has been lost in that muckle, cauld, dreary bog and never been found. • 46. The Effects Of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho In The Horror... The Effects of Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho in the Horror Film Genre Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho is one of the foundational films in cinema, especially in the horror genre. The film set new box office records around the world and received 4 OSCAR nominations. The movie is characterized by plot simplicity, a small cast, new effects, and a handful of locations. In the plot, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals 40,000 dollars from her employer to spend it with her boyfriend and ends up in an isolated motel where she meets the proprietor, Norman Bates, who ushers her in a friendly way. The young woman is later brutally murdered without an explanation, turning the film into a mystery. The subsequent events indicate that Norman has been hiding a most bizarre secret. A secret that, at the time, no one watching the film would have guessed. Since its release in 1960, the movie has had a significant influence on film making and audiences alike. Psycho changed the way movies worked by owning up to the notion that rather than existing as a dream to be inhabited, movies are a game to be played. This paper will demonstrate just how profoundly the movie Psycho has affected the film industry. Tactical Changes in Video Production Firstly, Psycho spearheaded one of the most decisive changes in censorship. Psycho was of movie of many firsts, including the first movie in history to show a toilet flushing on screen. At the time of its production, censorship rules referred to as Motion Picture ... Doesn t every human want to feel bad for themselves when they make what the consider a mistake? Many people were traumatized by a horrific event that they were forced into, while their friends and family were all being killed and forced to work against their will for the Nazi s. While many people were affected, not all of them were able to fully explain how hurt they were as it was something that was not easy to talk about for them. In a graphic novel called Maus, the author Art Spiegelman is trying to connect to his father and understand the hardships he went through during a hard time called the Holocaust. The author starts to talk about the Holocaust with his father and starts to learn how hard it was for his father, Vladek and his now deceased mother, Anja. His father and mother fought to not go into the camps until the last second, doing anything possible to stay away from them whether it meant lying or hiding with the rest of their family. When discussing this with his father he wanted to be able to tell his father s story for him, as he was never able to do it himself. Not only does Spiegelman just tell his story with words, he tells it with pictures through a graphic novel, using unique techniques with the illustrations in order to explain how broken humanrelationships were at this time period. It started with humble beginnings, and popped on the scene and not only reinvented the way we watch movies at home, but took over the industry. In this case I will analyze the Video On Demand or VOD industry using Porter s Five Forces Model and conduct a SWOT analysis on Netflix. I will also discuss why Netflix has been so successful, what their competitive advantages are, some of my personal recommendations, and finally any strategic advantages CEO Reed Hastings should pursue on the future. Using Porter s Five Forces Model I am going to analyze the VOD industry, Porter s model is made up of economic powers of customers, economic power of suppliers, direct competitors, potential competitors, and finally firms that offer substitutes. In the VOD industry I believe the customer have a high economic power. The top three streaming services in the industry are, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video Services. If the customer deems the price too high they can simply leave, and because customers aren t required to sign a contact they can simply stop services. Which will cause the number of users to fall and profits to decrease as well. Next in Porter s model is economic power of suppliers. The industry as a whole is very large, Netflix had 76 million users in 2016, Amazon had 44 million in 2015, and Hulu had 9 million in 2015. The suppliers (Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu) don t have a huge power, across the board all three services are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
