December issue of New Age Journal, provides some excellent new perspectives on

It is important for women to understand that men s communicating is all about
status. Think about all those nature shows you ve ever seen on PBS. The prime

discussed the research of Marjorie Goodwin, who studied boys in Philadelphia for
a year and a half. She found that boys give orders as a way of gaining social status.
The high status boys gave orders just to maintain their dominance, not because they
particularly needed the thing done. And the boys who were being told what to do
were low status, by virtue of doing what they were told.
This dynamic is important to remember when looking at another major area of
miscommunication between men and women. Women cannot understand the

The book that I read for the assignment three is called The Jungle written by Upton
Sinclair. The jungle is a Fiction book that is based on the meat packing industry in
Chicago in early 20th century. Sinclair Upton was American author, socialist, and a
famous reformer of the early twentieth century. After the publication of this book,
Upton acquired fame, but he also caused public anger/disgust that ultimately lead to
the creation of FDA (Pure Foods and Drugs Act) in 1906 in the United States. During
his time, he wrote almost 100 books, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1943.

Representing The Zainichi
Summary Mika Ko s chapter Representing the Zainichi is about the representation
of zainichi in contemporary Japanese cinema. She discusses the change in how
they are being represented in contemporary Japanese cinema since the 90s. To look
at this change she uses two movies in particular, namely All Under the Moon and
Go. Even before the success of these two movies, Koreans popped up and were
represented in Japanese movies as early as the 1930s, mainly under an object subject
relationship: Korea being the object, and with Japan as the subject. Though it was
later on, during the 1950s and 60s that film makers shed light on the political and
social issues zainichi face in Japan. And during the 1970s zainichi are being
represented through a multitude of different genres, such as documentaries, yakuza...
A movie based on an autobiographical novel by a young zainichi other. The main
character in this movie, Sugihara, is not the conventional zainichi character. He is
good looking, strong, but still sensitive, and is actually played by a Japanese pop
idol, something that was up until that moment not yet done. Even though we have
this cool main character, he does not escape the social issues zainichi face in
Japanese society, a theme often found in pre All Under the Moon movies. The movie
clearly shows the binarism in the Korean Japanese divide. Towards the end of the
movie Sugihara, the main character, denounces this divide and the term zainichi.

until she is one day bitten by a rabid dog. Once the news had spread of the bite, the

suffered after the bite and if the demons in the title of the work are really the ones the

of all, the other demons mentioned in the work never resided in Sierva, but in the

Attending A Jazz Concert At Uncw
I chose to attend a jazz concert at UNCW on September 28th, 2016. The musicians
playing were: Jerald Shynett on trombone, Andy Whittington on piano, Natalie
Boeyink on bass, Justin Hoke on guitar and Michael D Angelo on drums. There were
two special guests playing with this ensemble: Lynn Grissett on trumpetand Ryan
Mulder on saxophone (joined them on stage for only a few select pieces).
Upon walking in to the theater the stage was set with the piano on stage left the
drums on stage right and the lighting was set to colors of blue and purple. At 7:31
the auditorium lights were turned down and 6 musicians walk on stage and take their
places.
The first song played was Hope Street written by Tom Harrell. The piece was started
off with Jerald snapping his fingers to a quick beat and then the Trumpet (Lynn) starts
with a loud entrance. The other musicians join in and copy his notes as he plays.
When the trumpet hits the high notes he trills the note as he holds it before dropping
back down in PITCH to match the rest of the instruments. The bass, drums, and guitar
carry the beat and the trumpet and trombone take turns playing in a sort of solo. As
the trumpet and trombone fall back into rhythm with the other instruments the tempo
becomes quick and the guitar take the lead in the piece. All three solos mirror each
other in notes and TEMPO as the rest of the instruments keep the rhythm and beat.

Me!Me!Me! is a music video and animated short that was created for the Japan
Animator Expo in 2014, but was released in the US in 2015 through Vimeo with
English subtitles. The song in the video was made by the electronic music artist
Teddyloid feat. Daoko, a Japanese singer. The audience of this video would be all
fans of animeand electronic music, i.e. presumably young people who proactively
use electronic devices. The video is set in three main sequences, each revolving
around the main character, a young teenage boy. It follows his dreamy haze of his
break up, and his interactions with idealized, semi human females. My interpretation
of this video was that this young man lost all meaningful relationships in his life
because of his unrealistic expectations of women due to pornography and the
representation of women in popular culture, and how his addiction to these forms of
media only made it worse. The purpose of this video is to highlight the issues with
unnecessary sexualization of women, escapism and addiction, as well as heartbreak
and regret. This author s intent was to prove director Hibiki Yoshizaki was an
amazing storyteller and animator, and for the video to gain attention and views,

Pearl s personality and actions are described in many different ways throughout the
story, all of which makes Hester ambivalent towards her own child. In the story
Pearl is described as so intelligent, yet inexplicable, perverse, sometimes so
