One Hundred Years Of Solitude Essay
In Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez s novel One Hundred Years of Solitude the character Amaranta is
portrayed as a contradiction since she is often kind towards her family, while perpetually avoiding
the object of marriage even if she mentioned an interest in it before. Through Amaranta s sacrifices
in the arena of romantic love, it becomes clear that solitude wounds people deeply contributes to
the development of personal vices. JosГ© Arcadio BuendГa and Гљrsula BuendГa raise Amaranta
as a civil and functioning member of society. In her youth, Amaranta would often practice
embroidery on the front porch of the BuendГa household with her adopted sister, Rebeca, and her
friends. Later on in her life, Amaranta took over many household chores from Ursula, such as
taking care of her nephew Aureliano or keeping the swarms of destructive ants at bay. Despite
Amaranta s contributions to her family, and to a greater extent Macondo, Amaranta resolves to be
unmarried at the end of her life ence though several suitors visit her.... Show more content on

While Rebeca during her engagement to Pietro, however, Amaranta expresses strong jealousy
towards her sister; even going so far as to threaten to kill Rebeca, so that she could marry Pietro.
After Amaranta became engaged to Pietro her desire for him becomes subdued, causing him to
commit suicide after filling the village with music for an entire night in order to woo her.
Amaranta s rejection of Pietro may seem entirely unfounded, yet it is later revealed that Amaranta
carries residual guilt from the death of Remedios, and because of this, she holds herself in low
esteem, believing that if they married she would disrespect Remedios, whom she adored. After all
that s happened, it becomes clear that Amaranta chose not to marry Pietro out of coldness, but out
of love for Remedios

Traditions and Customs in Romania
Romania is situated in the southeast of Europe, to the north of the Balkan Mountains. It has a
population of about 23 million inhabitants. Most of its people are of Roman origin in fact, Romania
means land of the Romans . But there are also Hungarians, Germans, Serbs, Tartars, and Russians
who make up the rest of the population. The official language is Romanian, the only language of
Latin origin in Eastern Europe. Brought up to respect religious traditions, the majority of Romanians
is Orthodox (nearly 87 percent). Protestants are the next largest denomination at 6.8 percent with
Catholics making up 5.6 percent of the population. A small number of Muslims also live in
Romania. Romanian Orthodox Church, in common with all Eastern... Show more content on

The white blouse is also a basic item in male costume, tightened at the waist with a woolen sash or
leather belt. This is usually worn with narrow, white trousers. A typical piece of headgear for men
is the hat made of lambskin, black felt, or straw depending on the time of year and the local
tradition. Romania preserved a significant number of traditional customs and celebrations manifest
within the strong community of the village. Ceremonies dedicated to the significant moments of
one s life (birth, wedding, death), to natural cycles (such as solstice, equinox, harvest, springtime) or
to the big religious celebrations, follow the same archaic mythical rituals they did a thousand years
ago. Even though preformed in 21st century in villages marked by modernization, such traditional
rites haven t diminish their prestige. They still provide viable answers to how to live in harmony
with the environment and community, that the present social and economical system cannot furnish.
During winter solstice, when the sun is weak and frost and dryness take over, Romanian peasants
conceived ceremonies to help the Sun and Nature to overcome this temporary crisis. For 12 days
between Christmas and St. John on January 7th, all Romanian villages have specific celebrations,
starting with children s caroling on Christmas eve: Mos Ajun or Buna Dimineata (Good Morning).

The Main Determinants Of Money Supply Essay
The major determinants of money supply being the size of monetary base and the components
that determines the money multipliers, such as income level, deposit rate, various interest rate,
liquidity preferences of the people, the theory suggests that the NRB s policy has been a steady
growth money supply which is reflected in the publication, the Periodic Economic Planning, of
the planning commission and the Economic Review published by NRB. According to Thapa
(1997), the highest growth was recorded in 1960, and the lowest growth was recorded in 1971. In
1960, the M1 and M2 monetary aggregates grew by 40.9% and reserve money (monetary base)
grew by 48.8%. In 1971, the growth of M1 was 3.9% while reserve money declined by almost 1%.
1.2 Conceptual Background of the Rational Expectations Hypothesis The policy effectiveness has
been a continuing debate in macroeconomics between the Classical and the Keynesians. The
introduction of the rational expectation hypothesis in macroeconomics elevated the debate by
differentiating policies into anticipated and unanticipated. The rational expectation hypothesis
suggests that economic agents use all available information to form the future expectation.
Therefore, any expected policy change will not have any impact on real macro variables as the
economic agents fully incorporate the information into their expectation formation. The policy
implication of this hypothesis is that the change in policy should be a surprise to have a

Donald Trump Debate
When I watch the presidential debates I get a big kick out of what Donald Trump does, for
example if the moderator re asks a question and really tries to box him in for details. He just
claims the best and pivots back out. For example, he said My energy plans will be the best plans
ever seen on earth, and by the way what were her plans the last 30 years a disaster It s no
accident he lives in a world of gold letters with his own name everywhere. Can you imagine how
terrified a doubt would have to be if it tried to enter his mind? Dude is nothing if he isn t absolutely
unshakable. Also, some people are complaining about whether or not Donald Trumpactually
answered the questions given during the debates. That s the genius of Donald Trump in how he...

He doesn t answer the questions in the way wanted by those who ask but he plays by his own
rules in how he responds and he took full advantage of all the answering to reframing Hillary
Clinton as a criminal. I get that it would be ideal to want a President who is well spoken but Mr.
Trump is smart knowing that he has to communicate a certain way for people at all levels of
understanding, including grown adults who have the educational level of a 4th grader. Donald
Trump pushes the boundaries of what can be said in the mainstream, especially for the soft and
sensitive general public that are watching. For as famous as he is, he handles that shit amazingly
well. We have all seen meltdowns from other celebrities who couldn t handle all the pressure, and
they weren t nearly in the public eye as much as trump. Nor, did they have insane amounts of
money and businesses to deal with. Who better to lead the country than someone like that, who can
obviously take on the world like that? I see massive value in a person like that. If you cannot see
that, then what the fuck are you looking

Nordstrom s Expansion Line To Department Stores
In year 4, we will expand the line to department stores starting first at Nordstrom. Nordstrom
currently has a Topshop within the department store so we will add to that. This department stores
fits the line very well and it will help new customers reach the line since Topshop s are only in
major US cities. Putting the Green line inside the department stores will create more brand
recognition since this will allow more consumers to see and learn about the brand and the line.
By year four we will know exactly what our best sellers are and those are the pieces that we will put
in the department store. The Green line will be on Nordstrom s website as well because of how
good their online salesare doing.
Threat of New Entry: Low
Since Topshop has been inside Nordstrom s across the country for years, it will be an easy
transition to bring the new line into the store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supplier Power: Low

Threat of Substation: Moderate/High
Many consumers are shopping second hand now because it is better for the environment rather than
buying new clothing. They can also buy clothing off popular apps such as Poshmark and Depop.
Competitive Rivalry: High
Nordstrom carries thousands of women s brands so Topshop and Topshop Green will have a
greater market of brands to compete with to get their name out there. Topshop is lucky that they
already have such a strong brand reputation and many consumers know a lot about the brand. Also,
there are little, if any at all, sustainable clothing lines carried at

Breast Cancer Breast Self Examination
Background of the Study
Breast is a very vital portion of a female s body. Breast problems and diseases alike carcinoma get
distress and sorrow to women and most women should do everything in their capability to avoid its
presence (Omoyeni, Oluwafeyikemi, Irinoye, 2014).
According to American cancer society Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of
the breast. A malignant tumor is a set of cancer cells that can develop into (invade) near tissues or
spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease happens almost exclusively in women
(American Cancer Society, 2015).
For early identification of breast cancer Breast Self Examination (BSE) is an important and
inexpensive method.Breast Self Examination (BSE) is the examination done by individuals to
help identify any abnormality within the breasts. It involves visually and by hand examining the
breasts. It should be done at the age of 20 years and monthly;rather a few days after an individual
s menstrual period when the breasts are slight swollen. Breast Self Examination (BSE) involves a
process whereby women inspect their breasts regularly to detect any abnormal swelling and ready
for taking medical care. For the early recognition of breast cancerBreast self examination is a useful
tool (Omoyeni, etal., 2014).

Ancient Greece And Rome Vs. Rome
Classical Greece and Rome were ancient civilizations that existed 2500 years ago, and are regarded
by numerous scholars as the foundation of humanities in various fields. In popular culture, Ancient
Greece and Rome are portrayed substantially in books and movies; however, not many people are
aware of how they also shape our thoughts, ideals, and motivations. Through an analysis of classical
elements often portrayed in popular media, this essay attempts to illustrate how the representation
of ancient Greeceand Romein books and movies influence our lives and emphasize the need to stay
informed as these influences can be both beneficial and detrimental to our perception of the world.
The way ancient culture can impact our ideals is demonstrated by various contemporary adaptations
of Greek mythology. For instance, in 1997, Walt Disney produced the animated movie Hercules,
based on stories about the legendary Greek hero who persevered through numerous labors and
challenges and eventually gained a place in Mount Olympus, the home of the gods. Hercules
was a major box office hit among children and had left a deep impression on how they perceive
the qualities of a hero. Similarly, the 2004 film Troy, based loosely on Homer s the Iliad, tells the
story of the hero Achilles and the Trojan War. Troy was a critical success, grossing nearly 500
million dollars worldwide. But the movie did not exhibit merely entertainment values: studies found
Troy also established on the male

Megacity And Megacity
There is no doubt that the world population is growing and growing rapidly but in order for the
world to hold the mass change there is a need for humanity to adapt. According to the UN
(United Nations) more than half of humanity today 3.9 billion people in 2014, today over 4
billion lives in urban areas (UN 2014, p. 1).This is a profound shift in the course of one century,
or within a single lifetime for some of the longer lived people. Not only is the world s urban
populationrapidly increasing, but cities themselves are growing larger and larger, with the number
of megacities (population at least 10 million) almost tripling from 10 in 1990 to 28 in 2014 (UN
2014, p. 13). To first understand how such mega urbanity affects humanity one first needs to
understand what a Megacityis. Once one understands this concept they will be able to indicate what
the development of cities and our urban past have to say for urban future, understand the concept of
a cityand its history, be able to explain the urban way of life associated with cities and finally be
able to assess the challenges and changes that cities and urban life face in modern day. Megacities
are for the most part a very modern concept, they are best described as any city that holds 10
million residents or more. Some examples of modern day mega cities are Shanghai, Paris and
London. A city typically defined as a large settlement of humans which holds extensive systems for
housing, transportation, sanitation, land use

Impossibility Within The Fantasy Of The Book Alphabet Of...
Impossibility within the Fantasy realm in Alphabet of Thorn and the Year of Our War
As Farah Mendelsohn stated, the most obvious construction of fantasy in literature and art is the
presence of the impossible and the unexplainable. In my perspective, both McKillip and Swainston
brilliantly expand our perception of the impossible by introducing us to different elements of fantasy
such as time travel in Alphabet of Thorn and an alternate reality known as the Shift in The Year of
Our War. The fantasy genre encourages us to keep an open mind as we delve into other worlds;
simply put, fantasy shows the readers how to perceive the world differently. While both of these
novels clearly create a delineation of the impossible through an ... Show more content on

It s important to note that even though the audience is aware of the impossibility of giant, flesh
devouring insects, we are persuaded that this world of fantasy is indeed real. After analyzing
both novels, one of the most significant similarities between the two would be the author s
intentional system of rules placed in the story in order to explain how the world operated. In the
Year of Our War, after god left the Fourlands, the Empire created a circle of 50 immortals to fight
the war (93). Mortals and immortals coexisted peacefully because of the hierarchal power
system placed upon the Empire and the King; not to mention their common enemy of swarming
insects attacking all living beings. On the other hand, the Alphabet of Thorn provided a history
of the 12 Crowns of Raine and the individual roles associated with the floating school, Royal
Library etc. The authors, in their own writing style, have revealed to us what is possible and
considered the norm within their worlds. This makes it easier for us to differentiate the reality
from the impossible when those fantasy elements are introduced later on in the plotline. For
instance, in our mundane world, we perceive magic to be impossible, but it s very much real in
Raine. What deems to be impossible in one world becomes possible in another story.

Cruising Down The Street Summary
After the Industrial Revolution, the idea of family and home went through a significant
transformation. Many businesses went from being very family oriented and personal to anonymous
and profit oriented. Compounded with issues of institutional racism, poverty, and poor education,
there was a growing controversy with the use of streets in the city. Jennifer Tilton, writer of
Cruising Down the Boulevard discusses the rhetorical and institutional harms towards youth being
in public and private property while Ulf Hannerz analyzes different subsets of Urban Studies and
how they can be used to think about societal circumstances in the city. Privatization of urban spaces
is both a predecessor and result of alienation of misunderstood persons. Concerned outsiders often
use harmful language that redirects and distracts otherwise productive efforts to fix a neighborhood.
In Oakland, public spaces were becoming more and more filled with police presence and reinforced
as forbidden areas. Community activists were very concerned with teenagers getting involved with
crime in the streets and also contributing to crime. In the process, community members criminalized
youth based on ambiguous traits and adults tried to control the way youth used the streets. Jennifer
Tilton believes that youth impact social geographies of a city(Tilton 161). She has the insight to
recognize the effects of childhood: the presence of children changes the dynamics within a family,
neighborhood, and even city.

Reflection About Divorce
Divorce is difficult on the children involved. When my parents finalized their divorce, it was
decided that for the majority of the summer we would stay with our mother. The divorce
occurred when my brothers and I were very young. My mother lived in a small, unremarkable
town named Evart that is north of Lansing. Our grandmother lived in the outskirts of nearby
Reed City. We spent most of our time during the summer at her cramped little trailer. The trailer
she lived in was on a decently sized plot of land. Her home was situated on a hill that leveled out
quickly as the path led to the road. The yard was expansive with hard brown grass covering a
small portion with dirt covering the rest. On one side of the trailer was a large red barn with
chipped paint. On the other side was an old brown camper that held two beds and an old
television with an antenna resting on the top. There was no backyard as the trailer was a few
feet from a wooden fence that had barbed wire across the top to stop the neighbor s horses from
entering the property. The camper is where my brother and I slept while with my grandmother.
The property where my brother Sabastian and I stayed at shaped some of the ways my personality
developed. When our mother left us at my grandmother s she would take my oldest brother
Andrew with her, leaving my older brother Sabastian and I with our grandma. We were mostly
independent; we were not allowed in the house so we roamed the property playing with the dogs

The Poster Girl For Mexican And Feministic Art
Frida Kahlo was not predestined to be the poster girl for Mexican and feministic Art and part of
one of the most talked about marriages of the XXth century.
She was born into a lower class home in the suburbs of Mexico City. Her mother (whom she called
mi jefe my chief (Herrera, 1983, p14)) brought her up to be a good housewife and a believer
(Herrera, 1983).
Although she only started getting involved with it later, it was her father whom played a big part
into her discovery of the arts (Herrera, 1983). It could be believed the concept of male female
collaboration was always present in her life as her father, a photographer brought Frida along to
work whenever he needed help. Her first serious encounter with painting occurred after she
survived a car crash whose injuries left her in a full body cast for three month and on extended
bed rest (Herrera, 1983). Seeing their daughter fall into despair from this intense physical pain
and loneliness, Frida s mother had an easel made for her and her father lent her paints (Herrera,
1983). Because she could not get out of bed, she started painting what was available to her:
portraits of friends [...], family [...] and of herself (Herrera, 1983, p64). It was at this time Kahlo
started her self portrait series, a style which later would earn her the praises of Pablo Picasso and
/ became famous and praised for. Although she had never envisioned an artistic career for herself,
Frida was very ambitious with her work and became

How Can Direct Action Be Effective
Sometimes in order to change something for good, one must or many must do what s wrong but
must be willing to face the consequences that come with it. Not consequences for doing illegal acts
of demonstrations but instead for doing what they were being advised to not do. Letter from
Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr., he states that there are four basic steps in a non violent
campaign. Kings says they are collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist,
negotiation, self purification, and direct action. (King) In the letter he also explains why direct
action can be effective, he says Non violent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster
such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the

perfection, we see this when filming the daily grind of Nina s obsessive practice in her mother s

George Eliot s Silas Marner as a Fairy Tale Essay
George Eliot s Silas Marner as a Fairy Tale In the novel Silas Marner by George Elliot, there are
realistic and fairytale characters. It always ends in a happy ending. Fairytales always represent
good over evil and have a timeless quality and a universal quality. Moreover they contain magic
and it is as if in the story that Silas s transformation seems magical. In the novel there is a superior
power operating in the book. Also fairytales have stock characters (e.g. evil/hero). In addition to
this, in the novel there are partly realistic and fairytale characters. In the book there are fairytale

In any book the stories might be different but all the fairytale characters are similar. Silas has
many different aspects; he is part real and part fairytale. He is an unlikely hero and his
personality is by no means dynamic or fascinating. The treatment he receives in Raveloe makes
us symphonise with him. In the novel he is referred to as the miser Rumple stiltskin . In his
appearance he closely resembles a gnome, as he is short, skinny and physically feeble. But on
the other hand he has lost his faith in God and mankind because of his ill treatment. Although we
symphonise with him, some of his characteristics are repellent. He works like an insect, he is a
miser and his lack off generosity is not very nice. His interest and skill in herbs introduces
another aspect to his character because when he treated Sally Oats it shows realism as he cares
and has emotions. Moreover there is like a magic wand in Silas. Him being in an epileptic fit is
like being touched by the invisible wand of catalepsy which shows that he is not realistic but a
fairytale character. Dolly is the other partly realistic and fairytale character. She behaves as a
Godmother to Eppie like in the fairytale book Cinderella and she is a fully rounded person. But in
fact she is a godmother. She is very positive, down to earth, practical and very

Is Hypnosis Fake
centuries
Hypnosis essay
What I think about Hypnosis is that it is fake. These are the reasons why I think that Hypnosis is
fake. One reason is that if someone let s just say, tells you to act like a chicken while they
hypnotize you, you are probably not going to act like a chicken, but there is a chance that you
could act like a chicken. One of the reasons I think that hypnosis is fake is because like there is
proof that is real buts like what if behind the scenes they tell each other what they are going to
say and stuff and then they say bark like a dog so the person just barks like a dog. But if it was
real because there are ways like with people who smoke they went to some place and got
hypnotized and then they stopped smoking.

Also, it s a fact that not everyone is susceptible to hypnosis. Some people seem to possess a trait
called hypnotizability that, like other traits, varies greatly among individuals. To be successfully
hypnotized, a person must want to undergo the process voluntarily and also possess at least a
moderate degree of hypnotizability. Even highly hypnotizable people may not benefit from
hypnotherapy, and a single session of hypnosis usually does not produce lasting results. Often, a
person will have to undergo a series of hypnotic procedures to reinforce whatever constructive
suggestions may be given. The most frequent clinical uses of hypnosis include: breaking bad
habits, overcoming insomnia, recalling forgotten experiences, and as an anesthetic for managing
pain. You can easily test the benefits of self hypnosis. Simply sit or lie down and get comfortable
in a quiet setting. Then, close your eyes and take in a few deep breaths, slowly, in and out. This
places many people into a mild trance and a state of comfortable relaxation. In this state, say some
optimistic things to yourself and picture some

Quality Of Information Environment For The Canadian...
1.0 Introduction and Methodology
The objective of this report is to examine and compare the quality of information environment for
the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and the Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS). The
analysis is performed from three perspectives: earnings response coefficient (ERC), analysts
forecast consensus, and quality of Management Discussions Analysis (MD A).
First, research was conducted for a total of 8 quarters (Q4 2012 to Q3 2014, Exhibit 0) based on
publicly available information. The ERC analysis requires each bank s alpha and beta,
estimated by regressing the CAPM Model (Exhibit 1) using a period of 200 trading days before
Q4 2012, which are then used to estimate the expected daily return for each equity in a 7 day
window (day 3 to day +3) around each earnings announcement date (Exhibit 2). Each quarter s
cumulative abnormal returns, is regressed over unexpected earnings to arrive at the ERC (Exhibit
3). Secondly, forecast error, a measure of analyst accuracy, was determined by unexpected earnings
and calculated as the difference between actual earnings per share (EPS) and estimated EPS
divided by the stock price three days prior to the earnings announcement. In addition to mean and
the median of these errors, standard deviation (SD) was used as a measure of volatility, for both the
consensus among analysts revising recommendations and the relative number of analysts agreeing
/disagreeing (numeric rating of 1 for sell and 5 for strong buy).

Apollo And The Greek God
Among all the Greek, and later on Roman gods, none reached the notoriety of Apollo. He was the
most widely worshiped god, his character extending far out of Ancient Greece, with temples
dedicated to his name as far as Anatolia, Turkey, and Egypt. His influence spread through the
ancient world through the Oracle of Delphi, as he was known to protect mankind with evil, but also
as the god of light, music and dance, poetry, healing, medicine, plagues, divination, prophecy, and
truth, as well as the patron of archers. Apolloenjoyed a myriad of domains to his name. Helios and
Apollo are often used interchangeably as the Greek god of the Sun. However, Apollo s role as the
god of light or the god of the sun was not conventional until 500 BCE, and even the notion was
rejected since Helios was technically the Greek Sun God. In the following two millennia, especially
during the Renaissance, the Sun became strongly associated with Apollo.
As a specifically Greek god, Apollo was not firmly established until around 800 BCE, which
succeeded the development his figure underwent in the dark ages, from 1100 BCE through 900
BCE. In ancient Mycenaean records from the Bronze Age, Apollo is not mentioned, while other
central Greek gods, including Zeus and Athena are. The records do describe a god named Paiawon,
thought to be an early form of Apollo s epithet, Paian, meaning healer. Speculation suggests Apollo
originally served as the protector of herdsmen and their flocks, through his lyre,

Leading Causes Of Death In Horses
There is a lot to know about horses. The most important thing you need to to know is how to
keep your horse safe. You can do this by learning about different diseases horses can have and
how to treat them as well as knowing what to do when they get hurt. The leading causes of death
in horses are old age, colic, and injury. Following the first three are diseases. If your horsegets into
an accident and hurts itself a veterinarian needs to be contacted immediately. When a horse colics
it has extreme abdominal pain. You need to call a vet right away and walk the horse around. Two
of the most common signs of a horse colicking is laying down sprawled out and looking at their
stomach.
Vaccinating your horse is essential. It is the only way to keep your horse from contracting and
spreading dangerous and potentially fatal diseases. The six main vaccines that you must give to
compete in competitions are eastern and western equine encephalitis (EEE and WEE) also known
as sleeping sickness, tetanus, equine influenza, rhinopneumonitis, and west nile. Another vaccines

Elizabeth Acevedo Book Report
At the beginning of the year, I did not like to read whatsoever. My view on reading was tough and I
did not even want to try to read a book. Reading has just never been my thing, it is hard and it s
hard for me to remember what I read. When It was my first day of junior year and I walked into
English I was overwhelmed with all of the books that were in the room. I was not happy because
I figured we would read a lot and the teacher would get to choose the book but once I figured out
that you could choose your own book it made me feel more comfortable towards my reading.
This school year one of the books I decided to read was The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo. This is a

The Social Cognitive Theory Of Moral Disengagement
In 1986, Albert Bandura explored the concept of moral disengagement and its involvement in
individuals accepting and encouraging the act of violence and other immoral activities while
justifying their behavior. Moral disengagement, a term from social psychology, is the notion that
focuses on the process in which an individual convince themselves that their morals or ethical
standards do not apply to a certain situation. When this occurs, the individual has disabled the
mechanism of self condemnation and is separating themselves from their morals and acting in
inhumane ways. Many people disengage themselves from their morals in certain situations because
they feel their actions are justified, or they defuse the responsibility to others and believe that
someone else will take charge. The purpose of this paper is to explore the social cognitive theory
of moral disengagement and how well it does at explaining why humans detach themselves from
their moralityand justify their misconduct, contrary to the rationalist, psychological and socio
structural theories. Based on the book Everybody Does It by Thomas Gabor (1994), the
universality of moral disengagement is seen in all kinds of people from all kinds of statuses and
ways of life. Many psychological theories regarding morality have concentrated on the formal
character of moral reasoning to the neglect of moral conduct. In the social cognitive theory of
moral self, reasoning based on morals is linked to moral actions via

Similarities And Differences Between Football And Soccer
Arguments about football and soccer have been ongoing since both sports gained popularity
over a hundred years ago, which leads us to the controversies commonly seen today. To begin
with, the question over the name of the sports has been viewed as a major issue since football
and soccer became widely known. I experienced this issue first hand when I traveled to Germany
and Sweden last summer for a soccer tournament and instantly noticed the difference from the
moment I arrived. All of the signs and the people called soccer football and it came as a complete
surprise to me, but their passion for the game remained just as strong or even stronger than seen in
North America. Soccer, also termed the beautiful game , was first given the name... Show more

In order to score, the team with the ball must cross the end zone without having an illegal play,
otherwise known as a flag. The team is awarded 6 points and the kicker must either kick a Point
After Touchdown (PAT) for an additional point or the team can attempt to score two points by
attempting to again cross the end zone, but this time starting from the two yard line. The rules of
soccer, however, completely differ from those of American football. Like football there are 11
players on the field with specific positions, but the object of soccer is for a player to get the ball
into the other team s goal by using any part of the body except the player s hands and arms. The
goalie is the only player allowed to touch the ball with the hands and arms and then only while
he is located in his own penalty area (upperdublinsoccerclub.org). If any of these rules are broken
by the players, the referee gives the player either a yellow card as a warning or a red card for an
automatic ejection from the game. So, as you can see, whereas football primarily utilizes your
hands, soccer leverages everything but your hands. In addition to this, all soccer players are
required to wear shin guards and soccer cleats, but if it is organized soccer, a team jersey, team
shorts, and long socks are also required. In football, however, the players are required to wear
much more: football cleats, shoulder pads, thigh pads, knee pads, hip pads, mouthguard, jockstrap,

Why Does Jane Austen Use Of The Gothic
Explore How Austen Makes Use of the Gothic in the Novel
Throughout Northanger Abbey Jane Austen uses gothic horror to describe main events that highly
influence the outcome of the novel. The book bases its whole plot around gothic horror but it s not
really a gothic horror but more of parody of a gothic horror.
At the very start of the book (pages 3 4) Austen introduces the character of Catherine. She uses
stereotypical characteristics from a normal Gothic Horror novel to somewhat tell the reader that
Catherine is remarkably none of these things. As the reader this tells you Austen portrays her as a
plain and unaccountable character with a very unremarkable life, not that of stereotypical heroine
from a gothic horror novel. She tells ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Upon reaching Northanger Abbey (chapter 21) Catherine is led to a separate chamber in the house

isn t writing a typical gothic horror story when she describes Catherin s apartment as altogether far
from uncheerful compared to Tilney s description with gloomy passages.
Whilst at Northanger Catherine discovers a high old fashioned black cabinet within her room a
rousing curiosity rouses within her and she investigates the contents of it. This is Austen once
again using the plot of something from within your average gothic horror story to manipulate
Catherine s imagination. As she reads so many gothic horror novels this is her mind linking real
life to fantasy once again and imagining strange looking items that may be in one of her books to
items of furniture in her apartment. This tells the reader Austen is mocking gothic horror and how
readers base their whole lives around these books and how they seem to take over your

Crooks Dialectical Journal
After reading chapter 3 and 4 of the novel Of Mice and Men, an important quote stood out to me
among the rest of the passage. On page 68, Crooks responded to Lennie s sudden entrance, You
go on get outta my room. I ain t wanted in the bunkhouse, and you ain t wanted in my room.
Earlier chapters describe how he was not allowed to sleep in the bunkhouse with everyone else
and had to be separated in a room by himself. Moreover, it is a rare occasion does people ever visit
him, on the exception for Slim. The obvious interpretation would be the connection it holds to the
racism that existed at the time, but I perceived a deeper connection behind his response.
Although Crooks is a diligent and hardworking stable buck, he experiences loneliness from unequal
treatment by others. Thus, his impetuous response to Lennie came from the hardships he went
through for being the only African American on the ranch. To some extent, people s comments and
actions reflect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

say he stunk at playing it. All the injustice Crooks faced is directly affecting upon how he treats
others. Author John Steinbeck does a phenomenal job in conveying important ideas through
characters such as Crooks. This specific quote stood out to me because it reminded me of how
this idea can be applied to problems we as a society are facing today, of one such as bullying. Not

I recommend that these checks remain physically secured at all times (by the accountant, or by
delaying delivery to the accountant until he reaches his office). * Due to the unorthodox honor
system of dealing with petty cash, any single employee can withdraw a substantial amount of
petty cash in relative anonymity. This violates two Internal Control Principles: Physical Control
and Establishment of Responsibility. It violates the Physical Control Principle because the petty
cash is easily accessible with no form of physical protection of theft, and it violates the
Establishment of Responsibility Principle because no single person is in charge of the Petty
Cash Fund (rather everyone is). This can be remedied by assigning a custodian to be responsible
for the fund, as well as creating a secure area to store said funds. * These previous points
additionally bring up another weakness, though not actually part of the Internal Control Principles.
Though it seems to be LJB s unofficial policy to trust long term employees, when a desirable
opportunity to commit fraud/theft arises, it becomes at the discretion of the employee to commit
these acts for their personal benefit. * Another weakness is LJB s lack of individual passwords
which allows personnel to anonymously use the company computers and databases. This lack of
individual accountability will prevent most attempts to track suspicious employee activities on

The Case Study of Bookoff, Amazon Japan, and the Japanese Retail Bookselling Industry
Una Hu
1Why is the profitability of large Japanese retail booksellers relatively poor and their scale
relatively small?
According to the case, stagnation in sales along with the steady increase of costs over time has
reduced the profitability of both large chains and small stores (Peng 2009, p. 391). There are
several reasons that results in the relatively poor profitability of large Japanese retail booksellers
and their small scale.
Firstly, the Saihan system, i.e. Resale Price Maintenance, is the most important factor. The system s
price fixing policy rules out the price competition (Peng 2009, p. 390), which would be a normal

387 395). The large number of bookstores is competing with each other for similar products with
similar price. In addition, the Japanese retail bookselling industry has already become an
oversaturated market nowadays (Peng 2009, p. 391). Therefore, the rivalry among retail bookstores
becomes fairly intense under this circumstance.
Also, it is almost certain that potential new entrants can be threatening, owing to the weak
competitive power of existing bookstores, to be more specific, their small scale (Peng 2009, pp.
387), i.e. little economies of scale (Peng 2009, p. 37), the lack of uniqueness in their products
with similar price (Peng 2009, pp. 390), i.e. shortage of non scale based advantages (Peng 2009, p.
37). In addition, the scarcity of entry barriers set by the Japanese government is another factor
(Higuchi 2007). Entry barriers are advantages that incumbents have relative to new entrants. (Porter
2008)
Additionally, the number of publishers and wholesalers is relatively small compared with the
bookstores. Therefore, these distributors have high bargaining power, i.e. they have the choice to
favor larger book retailers over small ones because of the Consignment Sale System, i.e. they can
obtain higher profit due to larger retailer s lower return rate (Peng 2009, pp. 388 389).
Moreover,

Dove Into The World Of The Five Freedoms And Internet...
Ph.D Cynthia Andrzejczyk, author of The Progressive Writing Text, dove into the world of the
five freedoms and Internet security. During the first month of a new year in 1941, President
Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered a speech on the Four Freedoms to the 77th Congress of the
United States of America (Andrzejczyk 64). Roosevelt s four freedoms became the lifeline of
every citizen. Each of these freedoms have become a basic human fact. These freedoms became the
backbone of the United States and are also included in the United Nations Declaration of Human
Rights(64). All citizens have been given the chance to make their own decisions and increase
their quality of life. Everyone is given the tools to be able to achieve each of their dreams, gain
more knowledge and globally expand networks. The first essential freedom that Roosevelt
discussed was the right to freedom of speech. This freedom gave people the right to express
themselves while omitting any caution. This freedom crosses into gray matter where the internetis
concerned because of how information on the Internet is monitored and removed if necessary.
The freedom of speech also included the freedom of information, where citizens are allowed to
seek knowledge through any platform with any limits (64). The second freedom was the freedom
to worship. Citizens will be free to fully dedicate themselves to any religion and are able to change
their faith as they please (64). Everyone is able to religiously practice,

Essay Birth Defects
Birth defects, or congenital malformations, are the faulty formation of structures or body parts
present at birth.
Sporadic, hereditary, or acquired defects may be immediately observed or may become manifest
later in life; they may be visible on the body surface or present internally. Birth defects may be life
threatening and require surgical correction, or they may interfere with function or appearance. It is
estimated that about 3% of all children are born with major defects; minor defects or variations are
estimated to occur in 10% to 15% of births.
Malformations may be single or multiple. Multiple malformations that occur in a regular

In cases of autosomal recessive inheritance, both parents are normal but each carries a silent, or
recessive, gene that, if matched in an offspring, causes the birth defect. Because both parents are
so called carriers (heterozygotes) of the same abnormal gene, they run a 25% risk (1 in 4) of
having a child with the birth defect caused by that particular gene. Examples of birth defects
inherited in this autosomal recessive manner are TAY SACHS
DISEASE and SICKLE CELL ANEMIA. In cases of X linked recessive inheritance the abnormal
gene is located on the X chromosome.
The normal mother has two X chromosomes, one of which carries the gene for the abnormal
condition; but if her son inherits her X chromosome with the abnormal gene, he will be affected
with the condition. HEMOPHILIA is inherited in this matter. Multifactorial Defects
Many common birth defects do not occur in a pattern that indicates simple Mendelian inheritance.
They seem to result from an interaction of genes and the environment, including the intrauterine
environment, and each factor includes a number of different hereditary and environmental
influences; hence, these defects are called multifactorial. Among them are congenital heart disease;
neural tube defects, including
SPINA BIFIDA, myelomeningocele, and anencephaly; and CLUBFOOT, CLEFT LIP
AND PALATE, and dislocated hips.

Thomas Rid’s Arguement on the Impossibility of Cyber War...
In the article, Thomas Rid s main argument other than the contention that cyber war will not happen
is that cyber war is completely misplaced if not entirely misunderstood. He argues that the concept
of cyber war is not in tandem with the historical definition and understanding of what constitutes
war. Rid s definition of war, borrowed from Carl von Clausewitz, is that war must constitute three
elements: violence, instrumental and political. (Rid, Cyber War Will Not Take Place, 2012)
Therefore, his main argument against the possibility for cyber war is premised on the idea that
cyber war can never have or express the above three elements. He further argues that at best, cyber
war can achieve some of the above criteria such as violence... Show more content on

He then argues that the actions of Anonymous and other such groups cannot be defined as war
because neither is violence involved nor does any of them openly accepts political attribution;
and their instrumentality is only limited to undermining authority. Secondly, He characterizes
cyber attacks as espionage because often times the main goal is to access secured or confidential
information. Lastly, he considers cyber attacks to be sabotage because the intended aim of the
attack is to disrupt or destroy military or economic installations. (Rid, Cyber War Will Not Take
Place, 2012) Ultimately, for Rid, what has ostensibly been considered to be cyber war are
basically manifestation of age old activities of espionage, sabotage and subversion.
Rid concludes with three points. First, he concludes that low tech cyber activities will have
greater impact on global political stability and in certain scenarios can even lead to conventional
war. He argues that the power of the internet to power social courses presents the greatest threat to
global stability even more than high tech capabilities used in sabotage; this is because mobilizing
and sustaining a movement via is now easier and requires less leadership hence social agitations
are stronger persists for longer. Secondly, he argues that sabotage as form of cyber attack will

Another type is Rheumatoid arthritis. It is what s known as an inflammatory arthritis. It is the
second most common form of arthritis, right behind osteoarthritis. It affects primarily the small
joints in the hands and feet, causing crippling deformities. This is an arthritis that usually starts in
middle life or earlier. Estimates say one out of every hundred people, (females are two to three
times as likely) suffer from it. It usually starts in the winter and after a common sickness, but it isn t
considered an infective arthritis. Nobody knows what causes rheumatoid arthritis. It could be some
hereditary trait. Scientists think that rheumatoid arthritis may be an autoimmune disease (that

is a rarer form of arthritis. It affects four times as many males as females, and of those, mostly
young adults. Some symptoms are joint and muscle pain, ulcers, sores on the legs, and gangrene
on your fingers and toes (because of cut off blood supply to those parts). The organs of the body
are almost always all involved. Symptoms like sudden blindness, hemiplegia, and heart disease

Conception and Birth of Heroes in Greek Mythology Essay
Hero, the word strikes a universal chord making us think of exceptional and spectacular stories or
deeds that far surpass any common feat. To the Greeks and many other cultures, the birth of these
heroes is important. The birth of a hero sets them, apart often even before birth, from common
mortals in Greek mythology. Birth is the first of many major events in our lives, our entrance into
the world (Leeming). For heroes, that entrance must be as special as their lives will prove to be. A
mundane birth is simply not an option for a hero, whether by the machinations of the gods or
prophecies from an oracle, even the events surrounding their conception must be spectacular. From

Theseus, born of Aethra and Poseidon, grew up secretly in Troezen keeping him protected from
those who would harm him. Thus, claiming the items his father left him and setting out for Athens,
he started on the path leading to many great and heroic adventures. Hercules, born of Alcmena and
Zeus, was conceived when Zeus took the form of Alcmena s husband and lay with her. Her true
husband lay with her again later that night and she conceived twins. One would be born to her
human husband, and the other fathered by Zeus himself (Hamilton). Zeus bragged about his
soon to be born son alerting and infuriating Hera to Hercules existence. Hera was notorious for
tormenting her husbands illegitimate offspring since she couldn t harm Zeus outright for his
infidelity (Hamilton). Hera persuaded Eileithyia to slow Alcmena s labor in a fit of piquГ©,
almost killing her (Hamilton). Alcmena in fear of Hera s wrath gave her son to nature. Zeus (in
some accounts Hermes) stole him away to Olympus, where he suckled at Hera s breast while she
lay sleeping, granting him immortality (McLeish). When Hera awoke during the suckling she
pushed Hercules away and the milk that sprayed out formed the Milky Way (Leeming). Zeus took
the infant and placed him back in his crib before departing to Olympus again. Enraged Hera sent
two massive serpents to kill Hercules and his brother as they lay sleeping

What Is The Theme Of The Lion King Movie
When it comes to movies, I can be a hard person to please. I like dramas, comedies, and romantic
movies. There s one movie that I love so much, I watched this movie countless times when I was
younger and still watch it today, and can recite the entire script for memory. It includes all these
different themes and more. The Lion King, a 1994 G rated Disney American animated music film.
This movie demonstrates family, friends, betrayal, rejection, running from responsibility, values,
and growing strong through adversity.
The movie starts with a sunrise of African grasslands. As dawn breaks, all the animals of the
Pride Lands are gathering to go to Pride Rock, the home of the pride of lions. Mufasa (James
Earl Jones) is waiting on Pride Rock. Zazu (Rowan Atkinson) flies over all the animals and meets
Mufasa on Pride Rock where he bows to him. Rafiki (Robert Guillaume) the mandrill passes
between ranks of animals, who bows to him; he then climbs Pride Rock to where Mufasa is
standing. Rafiki and Mufasa then embrace each other with a hug. Mufasa then takes Rafiki ... Show

Simba s first family relationship was the relationship he built was with his mother, Sarabi. She
gave him all the nurturing he needed as a cub. His father Mufasa taught him lessons about the
Circle Of Life. One example, Mufasa tries a functional approach with Simba. This approach
considers the functions and responsibilities of leaders. Hoping that Simba could learn and
develop these skills over time. Mufasa taught him all the attributes his followers would expect
from him in order to become an effective leader, such as confidence, courage, passion,
concentration, and values, these are all traits Simba would need to be a great leader. In the end,
Simba returns to the Pride Lands, facing up to his responsibilities by being honest with his
followers over the past, if he didn t tell the pride the truth he could not rebuild trust amongst the

The Importance Of Healthy Eating Habits
Good nutrition is a fundamental part of a person s health (Corbin et al., 2016). Healthy eating
habits can reduce risks of disease and support healthy body composition. Eating a diet rich in
nutrient dense foods combined with a regular moderate exercise routine also reduces overall
body fat. Poor eating habits have been linked to four of the seven leading causes of death in the
United States. It is imperative to implement healthy choices and teach our children healthy
eating habits so that we can improve the overall health of families. There are tools available to
help people to eat better and to change to a healthier lifestyle. The United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) has published in depth informational literature on the best eating habits for
Americans called the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Their website also provides a number
of tools to help Americans make healthy decisions and track their eating habits. Over the years I
have not always made the healthiest dietary choices. Over the last few years I have made several
attempts at eating healthier including Beach Body s 21 Day Fix Diet and the Mediterranean Diet.
I was not successful with either of these. Recently I have started focusing on making more
balanced meals that include a protein, a starch, and a vegetable. After reading through the 2010
Dietary Guidelines for Americans, I see that I still have some work to do. The USDA suggests that
a variety of vegetables be consumed, with emphasis

Indian Food
Today, India is the second most populous country in the world. The culture of India is also
among the oldest to survive, reaching back to nearly 5,000 years. India received their inde
pendence from Britain on August 15th, 1947, thus allowing them to become the most populous
democracy in the world. There are many aspects as to what makes India unique, one principle in
particular is their food. Indian cooking is vivid, exquisite, and simply delicious. It depends on a
wide variety of spices, herbs, and grains for its specific taste. The different types of food which
India carry include basic spices, traditional foods, and tasty snacks. It is notable that India has been
one of the world s main dealer of spices for at least 3,600 years. The... Show more content on

They are usually seasoned with spices and served over rice or with roti. Some factors as to what
makes them nutritious, are that they are filled with protein, vitamins and minerals. As stated,
Indians make hundreds of different types of juicy dishes, which are eaten with rice or Roti.
Depending on the type of spices, the sauces can be fiery or mild. Kormas, in particu lar, are rich
and mild. Another Indian flat bread, naan, is made by pressing dough onto the hot oven s walls
(Sheen 24). Without raitas and chutneys, a meal cannot be complete. Indian cooks tend to mix
together yogurt, raw vegetables or fruits, and various spices to make cool and creamy raitas.
(Sheen 25) Cucumber mint raita is one of the most popular types of raitas. Chutneys also come
in a tremendous range of flavors. These homemade, fresh relishes contain fruits and vege tables
cut into tiny pieces and delicately flavored with spices (Sheen 25). Chef Diane explains: Most
Indian families take pride in their homemade chutneys, houses are adorned with rows of jars
maturing in the sun on the windowsills, and a hostess is often judged by the number of rel ishes
she serves. (qtd. in Sheen 27) India probably has more cows than any other country in the world.
However, they are rarely slaughtered. The reason is because since most people in India are Hindu.
In the religion of Hinduism, it teaches that animals, as well as humans, have souls (Sheen 28). To
many Hindus, cows are considered

Factors that Contribute to the Perception of...
Courtship was once viewed as a significant phase in a person s life in which individuals
participated in activities such as long walks in the park while under the supervision of adults and
the community (Lloyd, 1991). Although men would only act on courting behaviors when they
proved to have the means to provide for a future family, the activities did not involve an excessive
amount of money spending like it does today. While sexual exploitation has been used by many
throughout the years, individuals are becoming more aware of the tactics and cues used by one
another. Men and women casually date multiple individuals and deceive each other to increase their
chances of sustaining a mate, whether it be for a short term or long term period... Show more

As in the study with men, women were asked to view pictures of other women depicting specific
cues that could be associated with exploitability. In correspondence to the men s study, the
participating women found cues that depicted women as easy, flirtatious, promiscuous, and
intoxicated to significantly correlate with exploitability; while cues such as anxious, intelligent,
and shy had a negative correlation. The study concluded that both men and women are aware of
the cues used in order to sexually exploit an individual. One can further conclude that women who
are aware of such cues use them as a means to attract a mate as well (Goetz et al., 2013).
While many individuals are in search for a lifelong partner, others are eager to casually date for a
short period of time. Although many studies suggest men are prone to use tactics for short term
mating and women prefer long term mating (Haselton, Buss, Oubaid, Angleitner, 2005), women
also acquire short term mating techniques (Buss Schmitt, 1993). In the study measuring women s
perception of exploitable tactics by Goetz et al. (2013), researchers looked at women who were
more inclined to use exploitability tactics to attract a mate. Although the study found women
generally were more likely to use non exploitative cues, those individuals who were more

Who Is Virgil A Hero Or A Traitor
Rome wasn t built in a day, and neither were the accounts of history that glorify Roman Empire.
Virgil crafts a very carefully worded and cautiously selected version of Roman history, that
glorifies Rome and its deeds, atrocities and achievements alike. The catalogue of events, functions
as a version of history or propaganda that supports and reveres the Roman Empire. The retelling
starts with humble beginnings, ... licked her wolf pups into shape with a mother s tongue (Virgil
1062). It then follows with the beginnings of Romeas a city, then as a republic and finally as a fierce
empire. Virgil traces an idyllic history of Rome, that glosses over any details that do not bring
glory to the empire, and in doing so creates a propagandic version of events.... Show more content

He forged the homes of hell, the high Gates of Death and the torments of the doomed, with you,
Catiline, dangling from a beetling crag, (Virgil 1063). Catiline, a traitor to Rome, tried to
overthrow the Roman Republic in the first century B.C.E., and for his actions against Rome, he
is sent to one of the worst parts of hell, and is depicted as dangling from a ledge above the Furies
open mouths, which could imply the torture of actually being eaten alive, or simply waiting for
the Furies to deliver a punishment or torture. Either way, it is definitively not a desired fate.
Conversely, Cato, a defender of the Roman Republic, who opposed to Julius Caesar, is heiled as
a virtuous man, and sent to the heaven of the Roman afterlife. Cato is said to be, set apart, the
virtuous souls, with Cato giving laws (Virgil 1063). The dichotomy of the story of Cato and
Catiline, illustrates a clear political message; those who support Rome are rewarded and those who
oppose Rome are

Wide Sargasso Se The Intersection Of English And British...
Jean Rhys s novel Wide Sargasso Sea centers on the intersection of English and British colonial
cultures through the union of Rochester and Antoinette Cosway. Rochester represents patriarchal
and imperialist Victorian values, which Mary Lou Emery suggests thrive in part on distinctions
between...legitimate and illegitimate sexuality, madness and reason, primitive and civilized
behavior, [and] fiction and fact (428). Antoinette threatens these supposedly objective distinctions in
her emotional ( Afraid of what? ... Of nothing, of everything! (Rhys 45)) and intellectual ( Not
slaves. Something must have happened a long time ago. Nobody remembers now. (Rhys 39))
uncertainty, which reflect the ambivalence of colonial, specifically black, culture towards English
reason and fact. Antoinette s most glaring dualities, however, appear in her subversion of racial and
sexual conventions, and Rochester ultimately perceives her as mad because these ambiguous
identities confuse the essentialist binary systems that patriarchal and imperialist ideologies derive
from, and with them his understanding of reality. The most obvious binary in Wide Sargasso Sea
is the black/white racial binary. Imperialism holds raceto be one dimensional and static, and
distinguishes only between two racial groups: white English colonists and black former slaves. This
simplistic racial dichotomy cannot account for the multi faceted reality of racein the West Indies,
however, and is problematized when

  • 2. One Hundred Years Of Solitude Essay In Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez s novel One Hundred Years of Solitude the character Amaranta is portrayed as a contradiction since she is often kind towards her family, while perpetually avoiding the object of marriage even if she mentioned an interest in it before. Through Amaranta s sacrifices in the arena of romantic love, it becomes clear that solitude wounds people deeply contributes to the development of personal vices. JosГ© Arcadio BuendГa and Гљrsula BuendГa raise Amaranta as a civil and functioning member of society. In her youth, Amaranta would often practice embroidery on the front porch of the BuendГa household with her adopted sister, Rebeca, and her friends. Later on in her life, Amaranta took over many household chores from Ursula, such as taking care of her nephew Aureliano or keeping the swarms of destructive ants at bay. Despite Amaranta s contributions to her family, and to a greater extent Macondo, Amaranta resolves to be unmarried at the end of her life ence though several suitors visit her.... Amaranta s rejection of Pietro may seem entirely unfounded, yet it is later revealed that Amaranta carries residual guilt from the death of Remedios, and because of this, she holds herself in low esteem, believing that if they married she would disrespect Remedios, whom she adored. After all that s happened, it becomes clear that Amaranta chose not to marry Pietro out of coldness, but out of love for Remedios ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of its people are of Roman origin in fact, Romania means land of the Romans . But there are also Hungarians, Germans, Serbs, Tartars, and Russians who make up the rest of the population. The official language is Romanian, the only language of Latin origin in Eastern Europe. Brought up to respect religious traditions, the majority of Romanians is Orthodox (nearly 87 percent). The white blouse is also a basic item in male costume, tightened at the waist with a woolen sash or leather belt. This is usually worn with narrow, white trousers. A typical piece of headgear for men is the hat made of lambskin, black felt, or straw depending on the time of year and the local tradition. Romania preserved a significant number of traditional customs and celebrations manifest within the strong community of the village. Ceremonies dedicated to the significant moments of one s life (birth, wedding, death), to natural cycles (such as solstice, equinox, harvest, springtime) or to the big religious celebrations, follow the same archaic mythical rituals they did a thousand years ago. Even though preformed in 21st century in villages marked by modernization, such traditional rites haven t diminish their prestige. They still provide viable answers to how to live in harmony with the environment and community, that the present social and economical system cannot furnish. During winter solstice, when the sun is weak and frost and dryness take over, Romanian peasants conceived ceremonies to help the Sun and Nature to overcome this temporary crisis. For 12 days between Christmas and St. John on January 7th, all Romanian villages have specific celebrations, starting with children s caroling on Christmas eve: Mos Ajun or Buna Dimineata (Good Morning). • 4. The Main Determinants Of Money Supply Essay The major determinants of money supply being the size of monetary base and the components that determines the money multipliers, such as income level, deposit rate, various interest rate, liquidity preferences of the people, the theory suggests that the NRB s policy has been a steady growth money supply which is reflected in the publication, the Periodic Economic Planning, of the planning commission and the Economic Review published by NRB. According to Thapa (1997), the highest growth was recorded in 1960, and the lowest growth was recorded in 1971. In 1960, the M1 and M2 monetary aggregates grew by 40.9% and reserve money (monetary base) grew by 48.8%. In 1971, the growth of M1 was 3.9% while reserve money declined by almost 1%. 1.2 Conceptual Background of the Rational Expectations Hypothesis The policy effectiveness has been a continuing debate in macroeconomics between the Classical and the Keynesians. The introduction of the rational expectation hypothesis in macroeconomics elevated the debate by differentiating policies into anticipated and unanticipated. The rational expectation hypothesis suggests that economic agents use all available information to form the future expectation. Therefore, any expected policy change will not have any impact on real macro variables as the economic agents fully incorporate the information into their expectation formation. The policy implication of this hypothesis is that the change in policy should be a surprise to have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Donald Trump Debate When I watch the presidential debates I get a big kick out of what Donald Trump does, for example if the moderator re asks a question and really tries to box him in for details. For example, he said My energy plans will be the best plans ever seen on earth, and by the way what were her plans the last 30 years a disaster It s no accident he lives in a world of gold letters with his own name everywhere. Can you imagine how terrified a doubt would have to be if it tried to enter his mind? Dude is nothing if he isn t absolutely unshakable. Donald Trump pushes the boundaries of what can be said in the mainstream, especially for the soft and sensitive general public that are watching. • 8. Ancient Greece And Rome Vs. Rome Classical Greece and Rome were ancient civilizations that existed 2500 years ago, and are regarded by numerous scholars as the foundation of humanities in various fields. In popular culture, Ancient Greece and Rome are portrayed substantially in books and movies; however, not many people are aware of how they also shape our thoughts, ideals, and motivations. Through an analysis of classical elements often portrayed in popular media, this essay attempts to illustrate how the representation of ancient Greeceand Romein books and movies influence our lives and emphasize the need to stay informed as these influences can be both beneficial and detrimental to our perception of the world. The way ancient culture can impact our ideals is demonstrated by various contemporary adaptations of Greek mythology. For instance, in 1997, Walt Disney produced the animated movie Hercules, based on stories about the legendary Greek hero who persevered through numerous labors and challenges and eventually gained a place in Mount Olympus, the home of the gods. Hercules was a major box office hit among children and had left a deep impression on how they perceive the qualities of a hero. Similarly, the 2004 film Troy, based loosely on Homer s the Iliad, tells the story of the hero Achilles and the Trojan War. Troy was a critical success, grossing nearly 500 million dollars worldwide. But the movie did not exhibit merely entertainment values: studies found Troy also established on the male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Megacity And Megacity There is no doubt that the world population is growing and growing rapidly but in order for the world to hold the mass change there is a need for humanity to adapt. According to the UN (United Nations) more than half of humanity today 3.9 billion people in 2014, today over 4 billion lives in urban areas (UN 2014, p. 1).This is a profound shift in the course of one century, or within a single lifetime for some of the longer lived people. Not only is the world s urban populationrapidly increasing, but cities themselves are growing larger and larger, with the number of megacities (population at least 10 million) almost tripling from 10 in 1990 to 28 in 2014 (UN 2014, p. 13). To first understand how such mega urbanity affects humanity one first needs to understand what a Megacityis. Once one understands this concept they will be able to indicate what the development of cities and our urban past have to say for urban future, understand the concept of a cityand its history, be able to explain the urban way of life associated with cities and finally be able to assess the challenges and changes that cities and urban life face in modern day. Megacities are for the most part a very modern concept, they are best described as any city that holds 10 million residents or more. Some examples of modern day mega cities are Shanghai, Paris and London. Impossibility within the Fantasy realm in Alphabet of Thorn and the Year of Our War As Farah Mendelsohn stated, the most obvious construction of fantasy in literature and art is the presence of the impossible and the unexplainable. In my perspective, both McKillip and Swainston brilliantly expand our perception of the impossible by introducing us to different elements of fantasy such as time travel in Alphabet of Thorn and an alternate reality known as the Shift in The Year of Our War. The fantasy genre encourages us to keep an open mind as we delve into other worlds; simply put, fantasy shows the readers how to perceive the world differently. While both of these novels clearly create a delineation of the impossible through an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s important to note that even though the audience is aware of the impossibility of giant, flesh devouring insects, we are persuaded that this world of fantasy is indeed real. After analyzing both novels, one of the most significant similarities between the two would be the author s intentional system of rules placed in the story in order to explain how the world operated. In the Year of Our War, after god left the Fourlands, the Empire created a circle of 50 immortals to fight the war (93). Mortals and immortals coexisted peacefully because of the hierarchal power system placed upon the Empire and the King; not to mention their common enemy of swarming insects attacking all living beings. On the other hand, the Alphabet of Thorn provided a history of the 12 Crowns of Raine and the individual roles associated with the floating school, Royal Library etc. The authors, in their own writing style, have revealed to us what is possible and considered the norm within their worlds. This makes it easier for us to differentiate the reality from the impossible when those fantasy elements are introduced later on in the plotline. For instance, in our mundane world, we perceive magic to be impossible, but it s very much real in Raine. What deems to be impossible in one world becomes possible in another story. • 11. Cruising Down The Street Summary After the Industrial Revolution, the idea of family and home went through a significant transformation. Many businesses went from being very family oriented and personal to anonymous and profit oriented. Compounded with issues of institutional racism, poverty, and poor education, there was a growing controversy with the use of streets in the city. Jennifer Tilton, writer of Cruising Down the Boulevard discusses the rhetorical and institutional harms towards youth being in public and private property while Ulf Hannerz analyzes different subsets of Urban Studies and how they can be used to think about societal circumstances in the city. Privatization of urban spaces is both a predecessor and result of alienation of misunderstood persons. Concerned outsiders often use harmful language that redirects and distracts otherwise productive efforts to fix a neighborhood. In Oakland, public spaces were becoming more and more filled with police presence and reinforced as forbidden areas. Community activists were very concerned with teenagers getting involved with crime in the streets and also contributing to crime. In the process, community members criminalized youth based on ambiguous traits and adults tried to control the way youth used the streets. Jennifer Tilton believes that youth impact social geographies of a city(Tilton 161). She has the insight to recognize the effects of childhood: the presence of children changes the dynamics within a family, neighborhood, and even city. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Reflection About Divorce Divorce is difficult on the children involved. When my parents finalized their divorce, it was decided that for the majority of the summer we would stay with our mother. The divorce occurred when my brothers and I were very young. My mother lived in a small, unremarkable town named Evart that is north of Lansing. Our grandmother lived in the outskirts of nearby Reed City. We spent most of our time during the summer at her cramped little trailer. The trailer she lived in was on a decently sized plot of land. Her home was situated on a hill that leveled out quickly as the path led to the road. The yard was expansive with hard brown grass covering a small portion with dirt covering the rest. On one side of the trailer was a large red barn with chipped paint. On the other side was an old brown camper that held two beds and an old television with an antenna resting on the top. There was no backyard as the trailer was a few feet from a wooden fence that had barbed wire across the top to stop the neighbor s horses from entering the property. The camper is where my brother and I slept while with my grandmother. The property where my brother Sabastian and I stayed at shaped some of the ways my personality developed. When our mother left us at my grandmother s she would take my oldest brother Andrew with her, leaving my older brother Sabastian and I with our grandma. We were mostly independent; we were not allowed in the house so we roamed the property playing with the dogs ... Her first serious encounter with painting occurred after she survived a car crash whose injuries left her in a full body cast for three month and on extended bed rest (Herrera, 1983). Seeing their daughter fall into despair from this intense physical pain and loneliness, Frida s mother had an easel made for her and her father lent her paints (Herrera, 1983). Because she could not get out of bed, she started painting what was available to her: portraits of friends [...], family [...] and of herself (Herrera, 1983, p64). In the novel he is referred to as the miser Rumple stiltskin . In his appearance he closely resembles a gnome, as he is short, skinny and physically feeble. One reason is that if someone let s just say, tells you to act like a chicken while they hypnotize you, you are probably not going to act like a chicken, but there is a chance that you could act like a chicken. One of the reasons I think that hypnosis is fake is because like there is proof that is real buts like what if behind the scenes they tell each other what they are going to say and stuff and then they say bark like a dog so the person just barks like a dog. To be successfully hypnotized, a person must want to undergo the process voluntarily and also possess at least a moderate degree of hypnotizability. Even highly hypnotizable people may not benefit from hypnotherapy, and a single session of hypnosis usually does not produce lasting results. Often, a person will have to undergo a series of hypnotic procedures to reinforce whatever constructive suggestions may be given. The most frequent clinical uses of hypnosis include: breaking bad habits, overcoming insomnia, recalling forgotten experiences, and as an anesthetic for managing pain. You can easily test the benefits of self hypnosis. Simply sit or lie down and get comfortable in a quiet setting. Then, close your eyes and take in a few deep breaths, slowly, in and out. • 23. Quality Of Information Environment For The Canadian... 1.0 Introduction and Methodology The objective of this report is to examine and compare the quality of information environment for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) and the Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS). The analysis is performed from three perspectives: earnings response coefficient (ERC), analysts forecast consensus, and quality of Management Discussions Analysis (MD A). First, research was conducted for a total of 8 quarters (Q4 2012 to Q3 2014, Exhibit 0) based on publicly available information. The ERC analysis requires each bank s alpha and beta, estimated by regressing the CAPM Model (Exhibit 1) using a period of 200 trading days before Q4 2012, which are then used to estimate the expected daily return for each equity in a 7 day window (day 3 to day +3) around each earnings announcement date (Exhibit 2). Each quarter s cumulative abnormal returns, is regressed over unexpected earnings to arrive at the ERC (Exhibit 3). Secondly, forecast error, a measure of analyst accuracy, was determined by unexpected earnings and calculated as the difference between actual earnings per share (EPS) and estimated EPS divided by the stock price three days prior to the earnings announcement. In addition to mean and the median of these errors, standard deviation (SD) was used as a measure of volatility, for both the consensus among analysts revising recommendations and the relative number of analysts agreeing /disagreeing (numeric rating of 1 for sell and 5 for strong buy). ... • 24. Apollo And The Greek God Among all the Greek, and later on Roman gods, none reached the notoriety of Apollo. He was the most widely worshiped god, his character extending far out of Ancient Greece, with temples dedicated to his name as far as Anatolia, Turkey, and Egypt. His influence spread through the ancient world through the Oracle of Delphi, as he was known to protect mankind with evil, but also as the god of light, music and dance, poetry, healing, medicine, plagues, divination, prophecy, and truth, as well as the patron of archers. Apolloenjoyed a myriad of domains to his name. Helios and Apollo are often used interchangeably as the Greek god of the Sun. However, Apollo s role as the god of light or the god of the sun was not conventional until 500 BCE, and even the notion was rejected since Helios was technically the Greek Sun God. In the following two millennia, especially during the Renaissance, the Sun became strongly associated with Apollo. As a specifically Greek god, Apollo was not firmly established until around 800 BCE, which succeeded the development his figure underwent in the dark ages, from 1100 BCE through 900 BCE. In ancient Mycenaean records from the Bronze Age, Apollo is not mentioned, while other central Greek gods, including Zeus and Athena are. The records do describe a god named Paiawon, thought to be an early form of Apollo s epithet, Paian, meaning healer. • 28. The Social Cognitive Theory Of Moral Disengagement In 1986, Albert Bandura explored the concept of moral disengagement and its involvement in individuals accepting and encouraging the act of violence and other immoral activities while justifying their behavior. Moral disengagement, a term from social psychology, is the notion that focuses on the process in which an individual convince themselves that their morals or ethical standards do not apply to a certain situation. When this occurs, the individual has disabled the mechanism of self condemnation and is separating themselves from their morals and acting in inhumane ways. Many people disengage themselves from their morals in certain situations because they feel their actions are justified, or they defuse the responsibility to others and believe that someone else will take charge. The purpose of this paper is to explore the social cognitive theory of moral disengagement and how well it does at explaining why humans detach themselves from their moralityand justify their misconduct, contrary to the rationalist, psychological and socio structural theories. Based on the book Everybody Does It by Thomas Gabor (1994), the universality of moral disengagement is seen in all kinds of people from all kinds of statuses and ways of life. Many psychological theories regarding morality have concentrated on the formal character of moral reasoning to the neglect of moral conduct. I experienced this issue first hand when I traveled to Germany and Sweden last summer for a soccer tournament and instantly noticed the difference from the moment I arrived. In order to score, the team with the ball must cross the end zone without having an illegal play, otherwise known as a flag. The team is awarded 6 points and the kicker must either kick a Point After Touchdown (PAT) for an additional point or the team can attempt to score two points by attempting to again cross the end zone, but this time starting from the two yard line. The rules of soccer, however, completely differ from those of American football. Like football there are 11 players on the field with specific positions, but the object of soccer is for a player to get the ball into the other team s goal by using any part of the body except the player s hands and arms. The goalie is the only player allowed to touch the ball with the hands and arms and then only while he is located in his own penalty area (upperdublinsoccerclub.org). If any of these rules are broken by the players, the referee gives the player either a yellow card as a warning or a red card for an automatic ejection from the game. So, as you can see, whereas football primarily utilizes your hands, soccer leverages everything but your hands. In addition to this, all soccer players are required to wear shin guards and soccer cleats, but if it is organized soccer, a team jersey, team shorts, and long socks are also required. In football, however, the players are required to wear much more: football cleats, shoulder pads, thigh pads, knee pads, hip pads, mouthguard, jockstrap, cup, neck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Does Jane Austen Use Of The Gothic Explore How Austen Makes Use of the Gothic in the Novel Throughout Northanger Abbey Jane Austen uses gothic horror to describe main events that highly influence the outcome of the novel. The book bases its whole plot around gothic horror but it s not really a gothic horror but more of parody of a gothic horror. At the very start of the book (pages 3 4) Austen introduces the character of Catherine. She uses stereotypical characteristics from a normal Gothic Horror novel to somewhat tell the reader that Catherine is remarkably none of these things. Earlier chapters describe how he was not allowed to sleep in the bunkhouse with everyone else and had to be separated in a room by himself. Moreover, it is a rare occasion does people ever visit him, on the exception for Slim. The obvious interpretation would be the connection it holds to the racism that existed at the time, but I perceived a deeper connection behind his response. The Case Study of Bookoff, Amazon Japan, and the Japanese Retail Bookselling Industry Una Hu 1Why is the profitability of large Japanese retail booksellers relatively poor and their scale relatively small? According to the case, stagnation in sales along with the steady increase of costs over time has reduced the profitability of both large chains and small stores (Peng 2009, p. 391). There are several reasons that results in the relatively poor profitability of large Japanese retail booksellers and their small scale. The large number of bookstores is competing with each other for similar products with similar price. In addition, the Japanese retail bookselling industry has already become an oversaturated market nowadays (Peng 2009, p. 391). Therefore, the rivalry among retail bookstores becomes fairly intense under this circumstance. Also, it is almost certain that potential new entrants can be threatening, owing to the weak competitive power of existing bookstores, to be more specific, their small scale (Peng 2009, pp. 387), i.e. little economies of scale (Peng 2009, p. 37), the lack of uniqueness in their products with similar price (Peng 2009, pp. 390), i.e. shortage of non scale based advantages (Peng 2009, p. 37). In addition, the scarcity of entry barriers set by the Japanese government is another factor (Higuchi 2007). Entry barriers are advantages that incumbents have relative to new entrants. (Porter 2008) Additionally, the number of publishers and wholesalers is relatively small compared with the bookstores. Therefore, these distributors have high bargaining power, i.e. they have the choice to favor larger book retailers over small ones because of the Consignment Sale System, i.e. they can obtain higher profit due to larger retailer s lower return rate (Peng 2009, pp. 388 389). During the first month of a new year in 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt delivered a speech on the Four Freedoms to the 77th Congress of the United States of America (Andrzejczyk 64). Roosevelt s four freedoms became the lifeline of every citizen. Each of these freedoms have become a basic human fact. These freedoms became the backbone of the United States and are also included in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights(64). All citizens have been given the chance to make their own decisions and increase their quality of life. Everyone is given the tools to be able to achieve each of their dreams, gain more knowledge and globally expand networks. The first essential freedom that Roosevelt discussed was the right to freedom of speech. This freedom gave people the right to express themselves while omitting any caution. This freedom crosses into gray matter where the internetis concerned because of how information on the Internet is monitored and removed if necessary. The freedom of speech also included the freedom of information, where citizens are allowed to seek knowledge through any platform with any limits (64). The second freedom was the freedom to worship. Citizens will be free to fully dedicate themselves to any religion and are able to change their faith as they please (64). Everyone is able to religiously practice, ... In cases of autosomal recessive inheritance, both parents are normal but each carries a silent, or recessive, gene that, if matched in an offspring, causes the birth defect. Because both parents are so called carriers (heterozygotes) of the same abnormal gene, they run a 25% risk (1 in 4) of having a child with the birth defect caused by that particular gene. Examples of birth defects inherited in this autosomal recessive manner are TAY SACHS DISEASE and SICKLE CELL ANEMIA. In cases of X linked recessive inheritance the abnormal gene is located on the X chromosome. The normal mother has two X chromosomes, one of which carries the gene for the abnormal condition; but if her son inherits her X chromosome with the abnormal gene, he will be affected with the condition. HEMOPHILIA is inherited in this matter. Multifactorial Defects Many common birth defects do not occur in a pattern that indicates simple Mendelian inheritance. In the article, Thomas Rid s main argument other than the contention that cyber war will not happen is that cyber war is completely misplaced if not entirely misunderstood. He argues that the concept of cyber war is not in tandem with the historical definition and understanding of what constitutes war. Rid s definition of war, borrowed from Carl von Clausewitz, is that war must constitute three elements: violence, instrumental and political. (Rid, Cyber War Will Not Take Place, 2012) Therefore, his main argument against the possibility for cyber war is premised on the idea that cyber war can never have or express the above three elements. Lastly, he considers cyber attacks to be sabotage because the intended aim of the attack is to disrupt or destroy military or economic installations. To the Greeks and many other cultures, the birth of these heroes is important. The birth of a hero sets them, apart often even before birth, from common mortals in Greek mythology. Birth is the first of many major events in our lives, our entrance into the world (Leeming). For heroes, that entrance must be as special as their lives will prove to be. A mundane birth is simply not an option for a hero, whether by the machinations of the gods or prophecies from an oracle, even the events surrounding their conception must be spectacular. From Perseus and DanaГ« to Theseusand Aethra, the myths... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theseus, born of Aethra and Poseidon, grew up secretly in Troezen keeping him protected from those who would harm him. Thus, claiming the items his father left him and setting out for Athens, he started on the path leading to many great and heroic adventures. Hercules, born of Alcmena and Zeus, was conceived when Zeus took the form of Alcmena s husband and lay with her. Her true husband lay with her again later that night and she conceived twins. One would be born to her human husband, and the other fathered by Zeus himself (Hamilton). Zeus bragged about his soon to be born son alerting and infuriating Hera to Hercules existence. Hera was notorious for tormenting her husbands illegitimate offspring since she couldn t harm Zeus outright for his infidelity (Hamilton). Hera persuaded Eileithyia to slow Alcmena s labor in a fit of piquГ©, almost killing her (Hamilton). Alcmena in fear of Hera s wrath gave her son to nature. Zeus (in some accounts Hermes) stole him away to Olympus, where he suckled at Hera s breast while she lay sleeping, granting him immortality (McLeish). When Hera awoke during the suckling she pushed Hercules away and the milk that sprayed out formed the Milky Way (Leeming). Zeus took the infant and placed him back in his crib before departing to Olympus again. Enraged Hera sent two massive serpents to kill Hercules and his brother as they lay sleeping ... • 44. The Importance Of Healthy Eating Habits Good nutrition is a fundamental part of a person s health (Corbin et al., 2016). Healthy eating habits can reduce risks of disease and support healthy body composition. Eating a diet rich in nutrient dense foods combined with a regular moderate exercise routine also reduces overall body fat. Poor eating habits have been linked to four of the seven leading causes of death in the United States. It is imperative to implement healthy choices and teach our children healthy eating habits so that we can improve the overall health of families. There are tools available to help people to eat better and to change to a healthier lifestyle. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has published in depth informational literature on the best eating habits for Americans called the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Their website also provides a number of tools to help Americans make healthy decisions and track their eating habits. Over the years I have not always made the healthiest dietary choices. Over the last few years I have made several attempts at eating healthier including Beach Body s 21 Day Fix Diet and the Mediterranean Diet. I was not successful with either of these. Recently I have started focusing on making more balanced meals that include a protein, a starch, and a vegetable. After reading through the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, I see that I still have some work to do. The USDA suggests that a variety of vegetables be consumed, with emphasis ... • 46. Factors that Contribute to the Perception of... Courtship was once viewed as a significant phase in a person s life in which individuals participated in activities such as long walks in the park while under the supervision of adults and the community (Lloyd, 1991). Although men would only act on courting behaviors when they proved to have the means to provide for a future family, the activities did not involve an excessive amount of money spending like it does today. While sexual exploitation has been used by many throughout the years, individuals are becoming more aware of the tactics and cues used by one another. Men and women casually date multiple individuals and deceive each other to increase their chances of sustaining a mate, whether it be for a short term or long term period... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As in the study with men, women were asked to view pictures of other women depicting specific cues that could be associated with exploitability. In correspondence to the men s study, the participating women found cues that depicted women as easy, flirtatious, promiscuous, and intoxicated to significantly correlate with exploitability; while cues such as anxious, intelligent, and shy had a negative correlation. The study concluded that both men and women are aware of the cues used in order to sexually exploit an individual. One can further conclude that women who are aware of such cues use them as a means to attract a mate as well (Goetz et al., 2013). While many individuals are in search for a lifelong partner, others are eager to casually date for a short period of time. Although many studies suggest men are prone to use tactics for short term mating and women prefer long term mating (Haselton, Buss, Oubaid, Angleitner, 2005), women also acquire short term mating techniques (Buss Schmitt, 1993). In the study measuring women s perception of exploitable tactics by Goetz et al. (2013), researchers looked at women who were more inclined to use exploitability tactics to attract a mate. Although the study found women generally were more likely to use non exploitative cues, those individuals who were more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Wide Sargasso Se The Intersection Of English And British... Jean Rhys s novel Wide Sargasso Sea centers on the intersection of English and British colonial cultures through the union of Rochester and Antoinette Cosway. Rochester represents patriarchal and imperialist Victorian values, which Mary Lou Emery suggests thrive in part on distinctions between...legitimate and illegitimate sexuality, madness and reason, primitive and civilized behavior, [and] fiction and fact (428). Antoinette threatens these supposedly objective distinctions in her emotional ( Afraid of what? ... Of nothing, of everything! (Rhys 45)) and intellectual ( Not slaves. Something must have happened a long time ago. Nobody remembers now. (Rhys 39)) uncertainty, which reflect the ambivalence of colonial, specifically black, culture towards English reason and fact. Antoinette s most glaring dualities, however, appear in her subversion of racial and sexual conventions, and Rochester ultimately perceives her as mad because these ambiguous identities confuse the essentialist binary systems that patriarchal and imperialist ideologies derive from, and with them his understanding of reality. The most obvious binary in Wide Sargasso Sea is the black/white racial binary. Imperialism holds raceto be one dimensional and static, and distinguishes only between two racial groups: white English colonists and black former slaves. This simplistic racial dichotomy cannot account for the multi faceted reality of racein the West Indies, however, and is problematized when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
