formally and informally. Neal Matthews s magazine article, Desperately Seeking
Jimmy, which was published by Boating Magazine on November 1999, described
Matthews s search for Jimmy Hoffas dead body. The article illustrates the author s
experiences during the search for Hoffa s body. Matthews uses personal experience
and visuals to explain the investigation in an entertaining manner, which was suitable
for the mass market magazine. The article begins with a scene from his search and
subsequently describes his mission, background information, his experience in
searching for Hoffa s body, and the results. During his mission, Matthews provides the
readerwith background knowledge about Jimmy Hoffa s case, as well as what
equipment he used to search for his remains. He later includes the information that a
jailed killer provided about his assistance in hiding Hoffa s body, which showed them

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines symbolism as a representation of abstract
or intangible things by means of symbols. There is a lot of this in Tangerine, and
every symbol has a different meaning and theme connected to it. The use of this
symbolism in the novel has not only created a new way to think of the book, but a
web of themes tied to symbols. In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, a young
boy named Paul is held captive by the giant secret surrounding his mysterious eye
injury. He has a feeling the injury somehow involves his older brother Erik, but he
does not know for sure yet. When he moves to the town of Tangerine, Florida, he
finds out the truth behind the secrets and lies that have been haunting him for years.
In the novel Tangerine, the symbolof the tangerine trees reveals the theme that good
always prevails.
Paul is represented but the tangerine trees in the novel, adding to the theme that
good always prevails. The tangerine trees in the town of Tangerine are very
important. Almost everybody in that town works in the fields, including Luis and
his family, who are close friends with Paul. Everyone works extremely hard to
keep the trees alive and healthy, especially during a freeze, a cold time that sweeps
the county with ice every few years. When Paul goes out to Luis family s field to
help, Luis explains to him how the tangerine trees are made. This part of the tree is
called the rootstock. It is the root and trunk of a rough lemon tree. Believe it or
not, every type of tree that we produce here begins its life as a rough lemon tree
(Bloor 159 160). These tangerine trees represent Paul. He started out scared and shy.
That was like how the tangerine trees are rough lemon rootstocks before they
become trees. As he progressed in Tangerine, he went through lots of hard times and
struggles. It seemed the whole world was against him. That was the freeze for the
trees. Then as he grew at Tangerine

Analysis Of Historia De Una Escalera And Nada
Historia de una Escalera and Nada depict the realities of life under Franco very
realistically. Though the characters themselves are fictional, their situations are very
real. Both works highlight the harsh realities of poverty and classism. Andrea s
friendship with Ena and her experience at Pons party showcase the difference in
quality of life between the rich and the poor in Spain. The rich characters have no
idea what the life of the lower class is like. Pons and Ena both completely fail to
understand what Andrea goes through daily. Ena even goes so far as to say she
wishes she were poor like Andrea. Andrea describe her familys apartment as a
nightmarish hellscape, she spends most of her time on the verge of starvation, and
hardly a day goes by without a violent incident taking place in her home. Because of
this, Andrea attempts to completely separate herself from her family and her class;
she spends most of her time at Ena s and GuГxols . She is happiest when she is with
these people who often fail to understand her.
The class distinction in Historia de una Escalera is less present, but when it does
appear it is much more dramatic. The rich are shown to consider the residents of the
apartment building as subhuman. In the final act two wealthy, well dressed men
discuss how to make the building habitable again. The talk about repainting and
disinfecting the apartments. All they need is for the old residents to die. Then the
building, can start accepting
