The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment
The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual and scientific movement which is characterized by
its rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues.
Enlightenment ideals challenged the way people were taught to think and let them express their
criticism of the church, the monarchy or whatever system they saw as unjust. The impact of the
enlightenment movement was first seen in 18th century Europe and soon spread to different parts
of the world. People who believed in these ideals were called enlightenment thinkers. Enlightenment
thinkers were a voice for the masses who felt they were being manipulated by people holding all the
power. It also helped the masses realize that they did not need the church or monarchy, and
enlightenment thinkers were able to assemble a following to stop people of power taking advantage
of those who were not quite as powerful. Enlightenment thinkers gave an outlet to the common
citizen who were seeing injustices in their government system. Enlightenment ideals caused a
domino effect. Throughout history, we saw that the more the enlightenment ideals spread the more
people stood up to their oppressors. It first started with the Renaissance this was a time when
interest in knowledge and learning was reborn after the middle ages (Szalay). Then came The
Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation was the religious, political, intellectual and
cultural movement that spread across Europe, setting in place the

Organizational Structure of Disney Company
The Walt Disney Company is one of the popular and successful organizations in the world. The
business was started from 1923 at California and it is still very trendy in games, entertainments,
resorts and destinations, television programs, theme parks and in movies (Pride, Hughes, Kapoor,
2010). The Disney Company is a diversified international entertainment organization with functions
in four principal business parts which are consumer products, parks and resort, media networks and
studio entertainment. The firm has 11 theme parks across the globe, cable television network such
as ESPN and Disney channel. Similarly, the company has an intercontinental website in 37 nations.
Disney was chosen for this research as there is huge information regarding it (The Walt Disney
Company, 2016). The aim of this paper is thus to explore the organizational structure of Disney
including its use of teams.

Annotated Bibliography On Database Management Systems
The ability to store information has always been important for our survival. In the beginning,
information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the invention of writing, data slowly
started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted in specific order that made them easily
accessible. Finally, the invention of the computers led to the evolution of databases.
Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later on retrieve
information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all begins as a list in a word
processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data starts to appear inconsistent. If this
occurs, Database Management Systems come to help, due to the fact they can store a large
amount of information in a number of tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are
able to add new data to a database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they
are even able to delete information.
These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the following way:
Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of redundancy is
greatly reduced. A database can consist of a number of different tables which enables the
researcher to break information down into smaller (and easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread
sheets, they consist of rows (also called records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers
are able to combine

Eddie Van Halen Virtuosos
A virtuoso is a musician who is technically skilled on an instrument. Virtuosic musicians are known
to be specialized in their instrument, perform in front of large audiences, and show off to their
audiences. They typically travel far and wide with the intent of dazzling audiences all over the
world with their extended techniques on an instrument. Fast notes and special effects can be heard
in virtuosic music. The goal of all virtuosos is to achieve fame and fortune. Performing in front of
upper class audiences and the fact that virtuosic performers composed their own music typically
helped them achieve this goal. Fans of virtuosic musicians valued the excitement in watching their
spectacular performances, whereas those who were not fans... Show more content on

He went on to expanding his talents by writing songs for the band he co founded. Once his band,
Van Halen, was signed to Warner Bros. Records, he was able to travel to far places to perform on
stages outside of those in small town clubs. For the past 35 years, the famous guitarist has
impressed large audiences with his revolutionary two handed techniques and styles on the
stringed instrument. Like most nineteenth century virtuosos, Van Halen s highly accomplished
and distinguished technical ability greatly displays his virtuosic musicianship. Virtuosic
musicians of the nineteenth century performed classical music, whereas Eddie Van Halen
performed rock music. Rock music is a heavy form of popular music intended to appeal to the
many. The romantic and easy listening forms of classical music do not appeal to everyone. Van
Halen s form of music is usually performed on outdoor stages and is not as formal as
performances of classical music. Classical music is performed in indoor concert halls and its
audiences normally consist of well mannered and calm people, unlike those of modern rock
concerts. Eddie Van Halen s virtuosity is best represented in his famous guitar solo played for
Michael Jackson s hit song Beat It. The collaboration of these two artists was unheard of at first,
but once the song caught the attention of worldwide audiences, it was easy to see

Evolution Of Nurses Over Time Nurse
Nurses have gone through a significant evolution over time. Nurses work in many setting such
as hospitals and homes. Some nurses are even stationed in foreign countries around the globe. In
the past, they took care of revolutionary soldiers. Where the brave soldiers went, the nurses
followed, (A history of care). In world war one and two they were put at risk for disease, and
capture (A history of care). Over time nurses have had had to enter many disastrous scenes to aid
in care. For example, Clara Maass died in 1901 for volunteering for experiments to control yellow
fever (A history of care). Over time nurses have made many contributions to this world to make it a
better place.

Issues of Race in The Prince of Egypt
The film The Prince of Egypt tells the tale of Moses. This essay will focus on how the movie
handled the issue of race. In terms of the essay, race can be defined as, the conflict between the
Egyptians and Hebrews. In particular this essay will focus on the depiction of slavery, Moses
killing an Egyptian, and the relationship between Mosesand Ramses. The conflict between the
Egyptians and Hebrews was well demonstrated throughout the movie. Although comparing it to
Exodus, the conflict was portrayed less brutal. The animosity between the Hebrews and
Egyptians is played down. The relationship between Ramses and Moses shows compassion
towards Egyptians and Hebrews. The issue of race is evident in the prince of Egypt but is
played down. This can be seen through less brutality inflicted on the slaves, when Moses kills an
Egyptian, and the relationship between Ramses and Moses. When the Prince of Egypt would
show the scenes of slavery, they were seen as less brutal. For example during the opening scene
the Hebrews are shown building Egypt. While this is going on the viewer is able to see how the
Hebrew were treated by the Egyptians. The singing puts the scene in a less intense mode. The
only dialogue is song which is sung for promise of going to the promise land. Instead of focusing
in on the brutality of slavery, the scene gives hope to the slaves. So the Egyptians made the Israelites
their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with

Parenting Producing Helicopter Parents And Tiger Moms
Patrick de Waal
English 1A
Condon

Look out above.
Regardless of who you are or where you come from there s one instrumental factor we all share.
We all were raised by a parent, parents, or guardian that was key in who we became. While like
many things Americans cannot seem to agree on which stratagem is best in child rearing it is
indelible that the common goal of every parent is for their son or daughter to succeed and find
happiness in life. However, this has given rise to some extreme forms of parenting producing
helicopter parents and tiger moms; Parents that feel the need to control every aspect of their child s
life to either keep them safe or make them the best when compared to others. In the end everyone
wants to be a good parent, but helicopter parents and other groups like them are, in the long term,
hindering more than helping their child towards a successful future.
In the past 25 years alone parenting has been making a major shift according to marriage
therapist John Becker the general goals of parenting haven t see too much variance over the
years but the focus and outcomes have (Morman). Even looking back on my own childhood and
that of some of the kids I work with, sometimes an age gap as small as four years between us, the
effects of different parenting methods is evident. We always ate dinner together at roughly the
same time and everyone ate the same thing, dinner served as a time to catch up on the days events
as a family; A sentiment of

A Brief Note On Risk Identification And Assessment
12.0 Risk Identification AssessmentRisk is an on going responsibility for all team members to
identify. As the plan unfolds, situations may occur that spark other risks to be identified.
Anticipated risks are identified below and will be documented for consideration by other team
members and leadership, as they arise. The risks are considered to be minor and not a
significant impact to the project. Other aspects of a risk will be recorded in a mitigation plan if
assigned. The following potential risks are identified to ensure that management is aware of the
top risks for the project and the nature of the risks before it starts. The following issues are
thinks to be aware of: 1.List templates cannot be created and moved over from 2010 to 2013 due
to versioning issues. However, they can be moved over using the Export to Excel method as long
as there are no attachments. 2.Blogs and Discussion Boards cannot be moved over due to
versioning issues. 3.In a few instances of migrating documents over from 2010 to 2013, the option
to update the keywords field is unavailable. The approach we have taken to manage risks for this
project included a methodical process by which the project team identified, scored, and ranked the
various risks. The most likely and highest impact risks were added to the project schedule to ensure
that the assigned risk managers take the necessary steps to implement the mitigation response at the
appropriate time during the schedule. Risk managers

Civilization Paper
Civilization is a term used in many different ways. It can be defined as; people who eat the same
kind of foods,
People who live together, people who speak the same language, and so on. Yet each way that it is
defined relates towards the same topic; Humans and their existence on the planet. Civilization is
known greatly as a group of humans or animals that live generally together and practice the same
habits. Civilization, according to some historians, first came into play in the year 3000 BCE. These
historians look at civilization as people who have the same dietary needs and habits, who practice
these habits regularly in order to survive. A couple of years before 3000 BCE, the world went
through what historians call the Agricultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These changes have led to more numbers of civilizations.
With of all the new little civilizations popping up, and all the different conditions, and not
everyone being able to grow what they need to survive. The people had to resort to trade.
Trade helps civilizations grow to be more populated and stronger. Trade also encourages travel,
which eventually leads to exploration. And by people exploring they find either more civilizations
to trade with, or more land to expand onto.
The Mesopotamians are one of the first major civilizations to come into existence. They were able
to do this because of the agricultural revolution. The Mesopotamian region was like a quot;big dust
bowl quot; and much of the time was very hot.
Yet there was also times when there was too much water, and the rain flooded all of the peoples
crops, and turned the water into swamp like conditions which were unsafe to drink. In order to
fix this and make their civilization strive and survive, the people had to make canals, dams and
irrigation systems. These things helped the crops grow greatly. Because of the great success of
their produce, they were able to trade with other cultures for livestock, and other kinds of food and
goods necessary to live and survive.
Once in a while a culture will find something that they are really good at making, or something that
they can make and others cannot because of their geography and environment.
Some things that some cultures could make are

why we involuntary act the way we do.

does that mean? According to business dictionary affective behavior is Behavior that is primarily

The term reward can be broken up into three separate components: wanting, liking, and learning.
Liking is defined as the actual pleasure component or hedonic impact of a reward. Wanting is
defined as motivation for reward, which includes both (1) incentive salience wanting processes
that are not necessarily conscious and (2) conscious desires for incentives or cognitive goals.
Lastly learning is defined as associations, representations, and predictions about future rewards
based on past experiences (Kringelbach and Berridge 2008). I like the way this paper breaks up
the term reward because it causes you to actually think about which parts of the brain correspond
with each defined term. This paper goes on to talk about how with each component of reward lies a
conscious and unconscious process. Something I found that stuck out was how the paper addresses
the challenges the brain possesses with respect to rewards. The paper states The primary challenge
is to identify which brain systems mediate pleasure versus other components of reward and to map
components correctly onto their own neural substrates (Fig. 1).
This challenge is difficult because a rewarding stimulus or event will elicit many or all of these
reward components simultaneously and so activate many brain systems at the same time
(Kringelbach and Berridge 2008). I see why this can be frustrating. The brain is quite intriguing but
it is also confusing.

2.Gilmore Whistleblowing In The Given Situation Lends Itself
2.Gilmore whistleblowing in the given situation lends itself to much ethical debate. For this
discussion, one should assume SCE is in violation of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct by
recognizing revenue in the current period as detailed in the previous issue. To first consider the
ethics of Gilmore whistleblowing, it is essential to define the steps that should be taken by her
before she considers whistleblowing. For this, one can use the standard on ethical conflicts outlined
in the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct. In this instance, the conflict in question surrounds
around the pressure from internal management to do an unethical action (AICPA Code of
Professional Conduct). This is the situation which Gilmore is involved in, due... Show more content

This leads to three options Gilmore can take in the given situation. The first option is for
Gilmore to do nothing to address the issue and continue her employment with SCE. The second
alternative is for her to resign from SCE. The final route she has is whistleblowing under the
assumption she exhausted all internal options. As a spot check, the first alternative would be
unethical. As stated in the final step of evaluating ethical conflicts, one should consider leaving
the relationship with the given organization, so they are not in violation of the code. As
determined in the previous issue, SCE was in violation of the code by recognizing revenue in
the current period. Therefore, Gilmore would be associated with this violation by staying in
employment with SEC. This means she would potentially face fines or disciplinary actions from
the SEC as well as the State Board of Accountancy. Solely based on this code section, Gilmore
does have a reasonable case for walking away and not whistleblowing. However, there are other
pieces of literate that needs to be addressed before coming to this conclusion in entirety. To start,
one must first address laws surrounding whistleblowing before looking at ethic based authorities.
While there is not a law that requires one to whistle blow, there are laws that have been put in place
to ensure that

The American Evangelical Story By Douglas Sweeney And...
As we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism means throughout
history, especially in our Western culture I am intrigued as to both and their very intense
presence in many of our modern day congregations. Yet, the vast majority of evangelicals around
the world today hail from Holiness, Pentecostal, and charismatic congregations . After visiting
Grace Covenant Church of Austin Texas, much of those aforementioned typical contributions
that have been emphasized in books such as The American Evangelical Story by Douglas

always, everything is big down in Texas therefore, Grace is no exception. They have a large
campus with several buildings on site as well as golf carts to escort those who need

seemed quite impressive or I d just say, plain cool. The first thing you notice upon entering the

Causes Of The Fourth Crusade
Out of revenge and urge of desire, Pope Innocent II called for the Fourth Crusade in 1198. The
original plan was a military conquest to reconquer Jerusalem through Egypt, as Muslim held much
power in that region. From 1202 to 1204 the Fourth Crusade took a bizarre turn to the attack of
fellow Christian regions through alliances, poor calculations, and series of decisions with the goal
of sacking Jerusalem that ultimately led to the sacking of Constantinople in 1204.
With the decision of traveling by sea rather than land, six representatives were sent to Venice to
make an agreement of transportation. The deal included ships, knights, and horses with the
assistance of Dodge enrico Dandolo, ruler of Venice, for 84,000 marks of silver. Dandello, known

Power for Women in Alcestis and Hippolytus Essay example
Is it feasible that through the loss of one s life and being, one would be able to gain influence and
power? Does this fatal gain of power show a previous lack of it? Does forgoing one s life for an
honorable cause improve a woman s reputation in turn giving her more power? Through our studies,
we have discovered that typically women exhibit a limited amount of agency in ancient Greece.
Women occasionally assert dominance in the household; although, even within the home they
posses limited influence over their husbands. An interesting theme runs though Euripides theatrical
tragedies Alcestis and Hippolytus. In each play the lead female characterforgoes her life for the sake
of love. In Alcestis, Alcestis willingly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Oeconomicus) Therefore, it is with great regard that men and women uphold the public s opinion
of them. Furthermore, the women of Euripides tragedies are expected to withhold both their
individual reputation and the reputation of the household. The importance of withholding one s
reputation is stated in each of these tragedies. Admentus shows the importance when in Alcestis he
says, What have I gained by living, friends, when reputation, life and action are all bad (960).
Phaedra reemphasizes the importance of reputation in her speech, It would always be my choice
to have my virtues known and honored. So when I do wrong I could not endure to see a circle of
condemning witnesses (402 404). Consequently, reputation is a highly influential factor in society
and it is desirable to uphold one s reputation.
In the eye of a condemning society, Alcestis improves her reputation through the valiant way she

Steve Jobs Speech Analysis
Steve Jobs, a world class tech guru, and Neil Gaiman, a Newbery medal winning author, were
both tasked with the similar job of writing and delivering a commencement speech to university
graduates. Steve Jobs speech occured at the highly esteemed, prestigious university of Stanford,
while Neil Gaiman delivered his speech at the University of the Arts. Both speeches carried a
very similar message; Jobs speech urged students to find what they love and all will fall into
place, and Gaiman s speech advised students to take risks and do whatever it takes to do what they
love. However, whilst Gaiman is able to use varying structure throughout his speech to develop his
messages that he wants to the graduates to take away along with relatable evidence graduates, Jobs
incredibly simplistic structure and evidence that is foreign to most students do not allow for him to
effectively reach his students. Steve Jobsspeech fails to reach the Stanford graduates as it consists of
three stories that are identical in structure filled with examples foreign to his audiencein his attempt
to inspire Stanford s class of 2015 to do what they love and trust that everything will work out. All
three of his stories one about connecting the dots, another about love and loss, and final story about

tells a seemingly somber story to the audience., Each story also ends the exact same way, where the

The Soviet Union Won Four Gold Medals

Thematic Essay On The Killer Angels
Throughout the course of the Civil War around 620,000 lives were lost, of these thousands upon
thousands killed, about 51,000 died in the Battle of Gettysburg. The Killer Angels by Michael
Shaara documents the events during the Battle of Gettysburg from the perspectives of 7 different
men, on both sides, who fought through the bloodiest battle in the Civil War. The central theme of
The Killer Angelscenters around the concept that some decisions are difficult to make because they
are neither wrong nor right, as exemplified through Generals who make difficult decisions on the
battlefield, question the theology and morals of warfare, and are forced to make decisions with an
unknown outcome.
First, the theme that some decisions are difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A very prominent example of this aspect of war was shown near the beginning of the book as
Brigadier General Buford arrived in Gettysburg early, and had to decide whether or not to hold
the ground and hope for reinforcements to avoid getting slaughtered or leave it and risk defeat
for the whole army. Buford lamented to himself that If we made a stand here how long do you
think we could hold? Long enough for John Reynolds to get here with the Infantry? How long
would that take? Will Reynolds hurry?...But how long can you hold against Lee s whole army?
If it is the whole Army. These are two very good for brigades; you built them yourself. Suppose
you sacrifice them and Reynolds is late? For Reynolds will be late. They re always late (Shaara,
40) This quote shows how Burford was forced to make a decision, knowing that Reynolds may be
late, but also that they will need the high ground in the upcoming battle. This decision also
required Buford to question whether or not it was worth it to sacrifice the lives of his men for the
good of everyone else in the Army of the Potomac. Clearly, difficult decisions, with neither a right
nor wrong outcome were made throughout the course of The Killer Angels. However, this theme
also applies to the world

Research Paper On Muscle Cramps
Overview
Muscles normally contract and relax numerous times throughout the day as we move around.
When a muscle or group of muscles forcibly and involuntarily contracts, it is called a spasm. If the
spasm lasts for a period of time without returning to its relaxed state, it then becomes a cramp.
Cramps are thought to be caused by over stimulated muscle nerves, which could be the result of any
number of factors injury, vitamin deficiency, dehydration, too much rest, medications, etc.
Muscle cramps are very common, as almost everyone will experience them at some point in their
life. They become more frequent as a person ages, but children also encounter them. Cramps may
last only a few seconds, or they can hold out for several minutes. It

Hume – Concerning Human Understanding.David Hume’S...
Hume Concerning Human Understanding David Hume s epistemological argument revolves
around an empiricist school of thought, where sense impressions and experience are the
foundations of human knowledge and understanding. Hume s concept of human reason or enquiry
is divided into two types, relation of ideas, which are propositions that are intuitively certain, and
matters of fact, which depend on existents for their evidence (Hume 1993: 15). This paper will
outline Hume s argument against conclusions about cause and effect being based on reason, as well
as the consequences that accompany this method of knowledge. Finally, I will conclude by
explaining why I disagree with Hume s philosophy. The main argument concerning Hume s... Show

Furthermore, based on that observed phenomena, we can infer future phenomena of similar nature.
More specifically, we can base our knowledge of future events by recalling past experiences
(Hume 1993: 21). Hume s concept of cause and effect, however, does not come without
consequences. These consequences are tied to logical reasoning regarding an event. In other words,
we merely think that a fact is a fact because we assume that fact is caused by a previous
experience. Furthermore, we assume events regarding cause and effect simply because we have
witnessed similar events occur in the past, and therefore the same conclusion must follow.
However, this is where the implication lies, that there is no logical reason to assume that an
event or thing is caused by another, the only evidence we have of such an event is experience
itself (Hume 1993: 22). To further clarify, Hume uses the example of a loaf of bread. A loaf of
bread has certain consistency, weight, texture, as well as nourishment that follows its consumption.
Hume claims that inferring that an object that we see in the future that has the same characteristics
as the loaf of bread we first saw, so it must follow that eating it will also provide us with
nourishment (Hume 1993: 22 23). The problem

The Origin Of Moral Sense By Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin is famous for his theories regarding evolution and natural selection. In his 1871
book, Charles Darwin explains the origin of morality through studying the behavior of various
species. In his essay, Origin of the Moral Sense Charles Darwin uses his theory of evolution to
explain the origin of moralitythrough the study of animals, specifically mammals. Darwin s main
theory of the Origin of the Moral Sense is that humans have natural social instincts which in turn
gives them a sense of naturally occurring morality. Darwin s ideas surrounding morality and a
natural social instinct have been echoed and added to by philosophers, almost a century later,
David Barash and Robert Trivers.
In his essay, the Origin of Moral Sense Charles Darwin explains the origin of morality and its
relation to evolution. Darwin argues, that like animals, humans are descendants of natural
selection. Darwin argues that not only our (meaning humans and animals) mental capacity
evolved, so did our own moral sense. Darwin s first point in the Origin of Moral Sense is that
ethics occurs naturally amongst animals. Darwin believes that animals have a sense of sympathy
and need to do the right thing ingrained in them. Although Darwin believes it is instinctual to do
good , it does not apply to the same species, only species of the same kind.
Darwin s second point argues that past actions that are good will be ingrained within ourselves, so
we will repeat the same action again. Darwin

Peace Is Complex And Multi Faceted. Peace
The notion of peace is complex and multi faceted. Peace is not merely the absence of hostility,

such as healthy international relationships, security in matters of global or economic welfare and
equality and fairness in political relationships. The nature of peace is also tied to concerns of the

Differences Of The Cosmopolitanism
Due to the wave of the World Values Surveys which was conducted in 57 countries around the
world, more than 30 percent of the 65,269 respondents, seriously, identified themselves as the
citizens of the world. So the Cosmopolitanism is an important and remarkable phenomenon (Miller,
2010). The Cosmopolitan, is the attitude to yourself as a person, a citizen of the world and this
attachment is voluntary and selective (Bayram, 2014: 2). When we talk about the cosmopolitan, it
can be imagined a cultural social orientation that combines the two dependent dimensions to each
other. The first and most basic dimension is what it later called the cosmopolitan Idea, and refers to
specific mental state of the cosmopolitan (Hanrez, 1990). Cosmopolitan mindset can be understand

Civil War And Reconstruction Era
Cause of Exoduster Migration to the West
In the late nineteenth century, as the civil war and reconstruction era drew to an end, newly
freed African Americans were still faced with many problems. Slavery had taken up most if
their lives and now that they were free with no jobs. Most resorted in being farmers to former
slave owners to make a living. The whites, however, who did not agree with African Americans
being free created black codes. These were designed to force freed blacks to work on plantations.
These codes also denied blacks the right to purchase or even rent land. The Freedmen s Bureau
was issued in an effort to bring freed people to full citizenship. This would help with getting the
African Americans jobs, houses, education, land, and anything necessary to start their new lives. By
1879, Benjamin Pap Singleton, a former slave from Tennessee, became known as the leader of the
Exoduster Movement. Benjamin Singleton urged blacks to leave the south to move westward.
Kansas, at the time being a free state became appealing to Singleton and he put advertisements up to
show blacks what opportunities awaited them in the west. Those who agreed with him and who
moved west to Kansas called themselves Exodusters. Some believed that this was their promise

The Influence of Greek Thought on Modern Science and Mathematics
Parallels can be drawn from Greek thought and compared to today s modern world views. This
comparison also brings forth the influences of the Greek philosophies to the world s contemporary
aspects. More specifically, mathematics and science elicit the relationships of the ancient Greek
beliefs and the existing theories and truths.
Mathematics, as it relates to the Greek era and the present time, had created and still creates a very
new approach to the thoughts of the mechanics of nature. For instance, Pythagoras, the Greek
mathematician and philosopher, believed the physical world would be explained by numbers. He

not directly related; however, the relevancy of mathematics used with the accordance of nature has
influenced many intellectuals, which in turn directly assisted Einstein s theory. Some of these
intellectuals are Aristotle, Ptolemy, and Newton.
The field of science during the times of the Greeks have greatly influenced the modern world as
one perceives it in the present day. The atomic theory has much responsibility for the relation of
Greek thought and modern beliefs. Democritus was one of the fir4st Greek philosophers to explain
the theory of the atom. He said that it was indivisible. Furthermore, he explained that each element

My peers had never teased me; in fact, the incident with those older boys was the only act of

The West Point Cheating Scandal Essay
The West Point Cheating Scandal
Description:
In April of 1976 it was found that there was a possibility that over half of the junior class at West
Point Academy had violated the West Point honor code by cheating on a case assignment. The
honor code states A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those who do. This was by far the
largest violation of the honor code in West Point history and presented some unusual challenges to
the administration. As the year dragged on it was found that more and more students possibly had
cheated on the assignment and was also becoming a public relations nightmare in the press and
internally to the Army branch of the United States military.

The empowerment and enforcement of the code has always been up to the ethics committee
which is made up of cadets itself. This had always been to exert pressure on all students to comply
with the code by means of having to face your peers in hearings.
The one part of the honor code that was a staple of controversy was the end that says no cadet
will tolerate any action that violates the honor code. This implied that if you knew anything
about a violation that you were just as liable as the offender himself. This part of the code was
troubling for many considering you were dealing with comrades who were training next to you in
close quarters and with serious future implications. This can be a very precarious situation for
many and by holding students to it can promote more honor code violations. The problem here is
the fact that anyone can make mistakes and in the situations involving the honor code West Point
has taken the honor out of supporting your comrades as well as the honor of admitting to your
mistakes. They have done this by issuing expulsion to all violators. It can be said that someone
who can admit to their mistakes knowing the consequences that will ensue is of a stronger moral
background than one who may not violate the code in the first place or someone who does not get
caught. (Note: the current honor code allows for reacceptance to the academy after violations and

Foundations Program. The second program I observed was Danville Head Start.
Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit Work Foundations Program
September 27th around 12:30, I went to Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit. While I was there,
I observed the Work Foundations Program. The Work Foundations Program is a special education
program focused on providing academic instruction and real life job training for young adults. Most
of the young adults were a mix of emotional disturbance or intellectual disabilities, or both. Students
receive multiple services such as, employment transition services which helps with resumes and
cover letters, Practical Assessment Exploration System Lab (PAES) which is a stimulated work
environment that exposes students to different work environment s and assesses their skills and
interests, Academic Instruction and Remediation Lab students receive instruction in the areas of
reading, writing, and math, and more. I was very impressed with the center because of what the
students were doing. One of the PAES lab was wood shop/construction and the students were

Athlete s Foot One in five people have athlete s foot. Adults are more likely than children to get
athlete s foot. Men also get it more often than women do. People are more likely to get athlete s
foot in the winter because when people wear shoes that cover your feet it will make your feet
warm and sweaty. This will cause the fungus that causes athlete s foot to grow because the fungus
will grow in warm, damp places. Athlete s foot is defined by Merriam Webster dictionary as a
fungal infection affecting the skinbetween the toes. It is a form of ringworm. Athlete s foot is not

Comparing The Humpest And The Tempest
Jason Kelliher in his academic article put forward a comparison between the spirits such as Ariel
or Caliban depicted in The Tempest and the technological advances in Brave New World. They
both are a form of technology and are the same kind of malicious control [...] to fulfill
authoritarian goals . Science, and what is more magic in the Shakespeare s play, is really important
to achieve a control on population through for example; with soma tablets in Brave New Worldand
wine in The Tempest or with Hypnopaedia and the siren song that could be considered as a
intentional determinism. These uses of technological advances, that are a requirement for any
purportedly society , show according to Kelliher a deification [of] industry and makes possible to
idealize the assembly line and downplay the moral and religious values of a more primitive age .
This is ,this time, an intentional destruction of the religious primitivism. The new God of the
World state would be Henry Ford as said in the date 642 After Ford which replace a... Show more

Shakespeare and Huxley both are empiricists of the genre. Jerome Meckier thinks that they are
artists who see the multiplicity of life , the plural self, that means that they are able to describe
all possible aspects of a given universe and of its inhabitants. However, according to Ira Grushow,
the problem is that our everyday world is haunted, using Derrida s hauntology idea meaning that
our present exists only through our past, by this life of the spirit, of poetry, of pure science, of
pure knowledge, of chastity, of human relations, of the sanctification of carnal pleasures . As
Shakespeare haunts the life of John and the whole world represented with Mustapha Mond in
Brave New World, the culture of our past haunts our everyday life as

The Characteristics Of Hegemonic Masculinity In The Film
Hegemonic masculinity is present in many forms throughout life and allows for certain types and
groups of people to have an advantage. This typically discourages women, other genders, and men
of not Caucasian decent. In many twenty first century movies this is prevalent and sets a standard
for other people to follow which is wrong in so many ways. Throughout the films Dope and Rogue
One hegemonic masculinityoccurs which causes men to perform acts to assert dominance, which in
turns suppresses women and other races. In the filmDope hegemonic masculinityis present
throughout the film. The main character Malcom, as well as Dom and AJ all display
characteristics of the hegemonic masculinity. They all present ideas of homosocial interactions
which include emotional detachment, competitiveness and sexual objectification of women. (Bird
131) This is extremely prevalent when Malcolm assumes the worst with Nakia being sent by
Dom. He pushes her away which exemplifies emotional detachment. Early the sexual
objectification of women comes into play when Malcolm becomes seduced by Lily and which
leads to her domination and she uses it order to get the drugs which he has in his backpack. The
story itself presents many manhood acts with the boys attempting upgrade their social status
through parties and drugs. Later in the movie Malcom pulls a gun on the bully which he later
becomes respected for doing and is now accepted into the group and drug community. The women

Bullying On Bullying
The concept of bullying at work refers to all situations where one or more persons feel subjected
to negative behavior from others in the workplace over a period of time and in a situation where
they for different reasons are unable to defend themselves against these actions (Einasern, 2005).
The young lady was been bullied and sexually harrased by her top exececutive boss, he had no
right to make her feel that way to the point of ebven locking herself up just to avoid his lewd
advances. Work rights are their to protect employes from such behvaiours from the boss, however I
further read that in Russia Sexual harassmentis a norm in the work place because their culture has
finally normalised it which can be clearly seen from the way the judge ruled on this case sexual
harassment that the twenty year girl brought to his courtroom. In Russia, 40 percent of female
professionals have had sex with their boss at least once, according to the story and eighty per
cent of those who participated in the survey said they did not believe it possible to win
promotion without engaging in sexual relations with their male superiors (Einasern, 2005).
Such kind of notions makes it okay for the perpetrators to think that its normal to sexually
harassed women at work and objectify it. I have been a similar situation where the top boss of
our department s husband who works for the same company started sending me inappropriate
emails; I went to my immediate boss and reported the emails. My immediate boss was afraid to
deal with the situation because the perpetrators wife was her boss and friend. This left with no
choice but to take to management. Management cautioned the perpetrator and he stopped but his
wife started giving me a cold shoulder and started treating me differently after this, as if I was
the one in the wrong. We have to bear in mind she was my boss as well, so you can imagine how
uncomfortable the situation was at work. I did not care about her reaction because her husband is
pig who caused two other young ladies before me to resign because of his sick behaviour. I still
wonder why the company has not fired him knowing that he has done this before. Thankfully, I left
the company a after that to start work at new

Theme Of Life Lies In Blanche Dubois
Dealing with the harsh truths of life can be tough for anyone to handle, which is why people tell
themselves lies. These lies are called life lies a falsehood used to rationalize the lifestyle people
are living or actions they have committed. Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen investigate how
life lies can turn into delusions a state of mind or way of life when they are used to cope with the
stresses of everyday life. Williams protagonist, Blanche DuBois, was a former southern belle forced
to move in with her sister, Stella, after her husband s suicide and being evicted from Belle Reve,
her family home. To cope with these traumatic events, Blanche decided to recreate her character.
To do so, she lied to the people around about her sinful past because she wanted to appear to
them as the pure, southern belle she once was. As the lies piled up, she came to believe them as
truth, therefore, creating her delusion. Blanche only came to further and more deeply believe her
delusion as the play progressed. On the other hand, Ibsen s protagonist, Nora, had been taken
advantage of her whole life. She was merely a pawn of the two most important men in her life: her
father and husband. Unlike Blanche, Nora s delusion was innate she was taught these lies were the
truth from birth, whereas Blanche consciously created her delusions to protect her from past sins.
Through a series of realizations, Nora came to see the truth of the lieshe was living. Nora was a doll
confined to the walls and ways of Torvald, her husband s, doll house. Tennessee Williams, in A
Streetcar Named Desire, and Henrik Ibsen, in A Doll s House, employ life lies portrayed as
delusions as coping mechanisms; Ibsen explored how a new life and freedom can be gained from
a realization of one s delusion, while Williams explored how unwillingness to accept a delusion can
further trap and confine people.
Williams utilized the symbols of light and darkness to hide Blanche physically just as she used
lies to cover up and cope with her tainted past. Blanche avoided direct exposure to light because
she was afraid of exposing herself and, therefore, her past. She [couldn t] stand a naked lightbulb
in Stella s house because of the fear it would expose her

Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling
Sondra Rule
Liberty University
Summary The author of this book Mark McMinn explains how psychology, theology, and
spirituality can all be integrated into Christian counseling. He discusses the difference between the
three overlapping principles. He wrote this book especially for Christian counselors, pastors, as
well as students so that they may clearly understand the meaning of the three principles, allowing
them to apply it to everyday problems. The main question this book poses to answer is, How does a
Christian counselor integrate their faith into a counseling session in a way that can be beneficial to
their clients. He discusses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McMinn 2011, lets us know that spirituality and psychology have to be used together in order for
us to have a accurate sense of self, accurate awareness of need, and healing relationships.
Concrete Responses
After reading this book , I mostly thought about how I first integrated my faith with my personal
relationships. I have been Christian for a couple of years now, but every person I get close to or
friend I have are not all Christian. Therefore, I had to learn how to not let their habits influence
me with what I do and say. I have friends that smoke, get drunk, curse, and many other things that
I find not to be Christian behavior. These were once things that I also had taken part in, so
continuing our friendship and letting go of bad habits was a struggle for me. Integrating my
new life with my old life was changeling because I was always told that your are the company
that you keep. I had to make sure I didn t get myself into situations that could hurt me in the long
run. I was set on continuing the friendship I had and remaining a Christian as well. I can
remember the first time my faith was tested. It was around five months after I changed my life
around. I was invited to go out to the movies and out to eat with a big group of friends. Being
that it was only a dinner and a movie, I assumed it would be okay. The night started off really well,
we went to see a really great

Powers of the United States Congress as Established by the...
The United States Congress was established by the Constitution to be the legislature branch of the
Government as distinguished from the executive branch which is headed by the President and the
judiciary. The system is organized in order for each of the branches to act as a check and balance
on each of the other branches (Moyers, 1987). This check and balance nature of the system often
results in creating friction between the branches but this was precisely the purpose behind the
Founding Fathers setting the system up in this manner. The theory was that this would diminish the
possibility of any one branch becoming too powerful in relation to the other branches. Congress,
like the other two branches of the U.S. government, is limited to exercising only the powers
specifically granted the Constitution. The powers granted Congress are enumerated in several
different locations in the Constitution but the majority of its powers are set forth in Article I. The
first of Congress enumerated powers is its authority to regulate commerce among the several states.
Since first being addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark case of Gibbons v. Ogden
(Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824) the power of Congress to engage itself in the operation of interstate
commerce has been expanded, over time, to the point where Congress power to regulate commerce
now includes any activities that substantially affects interstate commerce. One of Congress most
significant powers is the authority

  • 2. The Impact Of The Age Of Enlightenment The Age of Enlightenment was an intellectual and scientific movement which is characterized by its rational and scientific approach to religious, social, political, and economic issues. Enlightenment ideals challenged the way people were taught to think and let them express their criticism of the church, the monarchy or whatever system they saw as unjust. The impact of the enlightenment movement was first seen in 18th century Europe and soon spread to different parts of the world. People who believed in these ideals were called enlightenment thinkers. Enlightenment thinkers were a voice for the masses who felt they were being manipulated by people holding all the power. It also helped the masses realize that they did not need the church or monarchy, and enlightenment thinkers were able to assemble a following to stop people of power taking advantage of those who were not quite as powerful. Enlightenment thinkers gave an outlet to the common citizen who were seeing injustices in their government system. Enlightenment ideals caused a domino effect. Throughout history, we saw that the more the enlightenment ideals spread the more people stood up to their oppressors. It first started with the Renaissance this was a time when interest in knowledge and learning was reborn after the middle ages (Szalay). Then came The Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation was the religious, political, intellectual and cultural movement that spread across Europe, setting in place the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Annotated Bibliography On Database Management Systems The ability to store information has always been important for our survival. In the beginning, information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the invention of writing, data slowly started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted in specific order that made them easily accessible. Finally, the invention of the computers led to the evolution of databases. Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later on retrieve information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all begins as a list in a word processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data starts to appear inconsistent. If this occurs, Database Management Systems come to help, due to the fact they can store a large amount of information in a number of tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are able to add new data to a database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they are even able to delete information. These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the following way: Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of redundancy is greatly reduced. A database can consist of a number of different tables which enables the researcher to break information down into smaller (and easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread sheets, they consist of rows (also called records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers are able to combine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He went on to expanding his talents by writing songs for the band he co founded. Once his band, Van Halen, was signed to Warner Bros. Records, he was able to travel to far places to perform on stages outside of those in small town clubs. For the past 35 years, the famous guitarist has impressed large audiences with his revolutionary two handed techniques and styles on the stringed instrument. Like most nineteenth century virtuosos, Van Halen s highly accomplished and distinguished technical ability greatly displays his virtuosic musicianship. Virtuosic musicians of the nineteenth century performed classical music, whereas Eddie Van Halen performed rock music. Rock music is a heavy form of popular music intended to appeal to the many. The romantic and easy listening forms of classical music do not appeal to everyone. Van Halen s form of music is usually performed on outdoor stages and is not as formal as performances of classical music. Classical music is performed in indoor concert halls and its audiences normally consist of well mannered and calm people, unlike those of modern rock concerts. Eddie Van Halen s virtuosity is best represented in his famous guitar solo played for Michael Jackson s hit song Beat It. • 7. Issues of Race in The Prince of Egypt The film The Prince of Egypt tells the tale of Moses. This essay will focus on how the movie handled the issue of race. In terms of the essay, race can be defined as, the conflict between the Egyptians and Hebrews. In particular this essay will focus on the depiction of slavery, Moses killing an Egyptian, and the relationship between Mosesand Ramses. The conflict between the Egyptians and Hebrews was well demonstrated throughout the movie. Although comparing it to Exodus, the conflict was portrayed less brutal. The animosity between the Hebrews and Egyptians is played down. The relationship between Ramses and Moses shows compassion towards Egyptians and Hebrews. The issue of race is evident in the prince of Egypt but is played down. This can be seen through less brutality inflicted on the slaves, when Moses kills an Egyptian, and the relationship between Ramses and Moses. When the Prince of Egypt would show the scenes of slavery, they were seen as less brutal. For example during the opening scene the Hebrews are shown building Egypt. While this is going on the viewer is able to see how the Hebrew were treated by the Egyptians. The singing puts the scene in a less intense mode. The only dialogue is song which is sung for promise of going to the promise land. Instead of focusing in on the brutality of slavery, the scene gives hope to the slaves. So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Parenting Producing Helicopter Parents And Tiger Moms Patrick de Waal English 1A Condon 11/22/15 Look out above. Regardless of who you are or where you come from there s one instrumental factor we all share. We all were raised by a parent, parents, or guardian that was key in who we became. While like many things Americans cannot seem to agree on which stratagem is best in child rearing it is indelible that the common goal of every parent is for their son or daughter to succeed and find happiness in life. However, this has given rise to some extreme forms of parenting producing helicopter parents and tiger moms; Parents that feel the need to control every aspect of their child s life to either keep them safe or make them the best when compared to others. In the end everyone wants to be a good parent, but helicopter parents and other groups like them are, in the long term, hindering more than helping their child towards a successful future. In the past 25 years alone parenting has been making a major shift according to marriage therapist John Becker the general goals of parenting haven t see too much variance over the years but the focus and outcomes have (Morman). Even looking back on my own childhood and that of some of the kids I work with, sometimes an age gap as small as four years between us, the effects of different parenting methods is evident. As the plan unfolds, situations may occur that spark other risks to be identified. Anticipated risks are identified below and will be documented for consideration by other team members and leadership, as they arise. The risks are considered to be minor and not a significant impact to the project. Other aspects of a risk will be recorded in a mitigation plan if assigned. The following potential risks are identified to ensure that management is aware of the top risks for the project and the nature of the risks before it starts. The following issues are thinks to be aware of: 1.List templates cannot be created and moved over from 2010 to 2013 due to versioning issues. However, they can be moved over using the Export to Excel method as long as there are no attachments. 2.Blogs and Discussion Boards cannot be moved over due to versioning issues. 3.In a few instances of migrating documents over from 2010 to 2013, the option to update the keywords field is unavailable. The approach we have taken to manage risks for this project included a methodical process by which the project team identified, scored, and ranked the various risks. The most likely and highest impact risks were added to the project schedule to ensure that the assigned risk managers take the necessary steps to implement the mitigation response at the appropriate time during the schedule. Yet each way that it is defined relates towards the same topic; Humans and their existence on the planet. Civilization is known greatly as a group of humans or animals that live generally together and practice the same habits. Civilization, according to some historians, first came into play in the year 3000 BCE. With of all the new little civilizations popping up, and all the different conditions, and not everyone being able to grow what they need to survive. The people had to resort to trade. Trade helps civilizations grow to be more populated and stronger. Trade also encourages travel, which eventually leads to exploration. And by people exploring they find either more civilizations to trade with, or more land to expand onto. The Mesopotamians are one of the first major civilizations to come into existence. They were able to do this because of the agricultural revolution. The Mesopotamian region was like a quot;big dust bowl quot; and much of the time was very hot. Yet there was also times when there was too much water, and the rain flooded all of the peoples crops, and turned the water into swamp like conditions which were unsafe to drink. In order to fix this and make their civilization strive and survive, the people had to make canals, dams and irrigation systems. These things helped the crops grow greatly. Because of the great success of their produce, they were able to trade with other cultures for livestock, and other kinds of food and goods necessary to live and survive. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term reward can be broken up into three separate components: wanting, liking, and learning. Liking is defined as the actual pleasure component or hedonic impact of a reward. Wanting is defined as motivation for reward, which includes both (1) incentive salience wanting processes that are not necessarily conscious and (2) conscious desires for incentives or cognitive goals. Lastly learning is defined as associations, representations, and predictions about future rewards based on past experiences (Kringelbach and Berridge 2008). I like the way this paper breaks up the term reward because it causes you to actually think about which parts of the brain correspond with each defined term. This paper goes on to talk about how with each component of reward lies a conscious and unconscious process. Something I found that stuck out was how the paper addresses the challenges the brain possesses with respect to rewards. The paper states The primary challenge is to identify which brain systems mediate pleasure versus other components of reward and to map components correctly onto their own neural substrates (Fig. 1). This challenge is difficult because a rewarding stimulus or event will elicit many or all of these reward components simultaneously and so activate many brain systems at the same time (Kringelbach and Berridge 2008). I see why this can be frustrating. The brain is quite intriguing but it is also confusing. Mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For this discussion, one should assume SCE is in violation of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct by recognizing revenue in the current period as detailed in the previous issue. To first consider the ethics of Gilmore whistleblowing, it is essential to define the steps that should be taken by her before she considers whistleblowing. For this, one can use the standard on ethical conflicts outlined in the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct. In this instance, the conflict in question surrounds around the pressure from internal management to do an unethical action (AICPA Code of Professional Conduct). The first option is for Gilmore to do nothing to address the issue and continue her employment with SCE. The second alternative is for her to resign from SCE. The final route she has is whistleblowing under the assumption she exhausted all internal options. As a spot check, the first alternative would be unethical. As stated in the final step of evaluating ethical conflicts, one should consider leaving the relationship with the given organization, so they are not in violation of the code. As determined in the previous issue, SCE was in violation of the code by recognizing revenue in the current period. Therefore, Gilmore would be associated with this violation by staying in employment with SEC. This means she would potentially face fines or disciplinary actions from the SEC as well as the State Board of Accountancy. Solely based on this code section, Gilmore does have a reasonable case for walking away and not whistleblowing. However, there are other pieces of literate that needs to be addressed before coming to this conclusion in entirety. • 15. The American Evangelical Story By Douglas Sweeney And... As we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture I am intrigued as to both and their very intense presence in many of our modern day congregations. Yet, the vast majority of evangelicals around the world today hail from Holiness, Pentecostal, and charismatic congregations . After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin Texas, much of those aforementioned typical contributions that have been emphasized in books such as The American Evangelical Story by Douglas Sweeney and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced ever present at Grace. From 1202 to 1204 the Fourth Crusade took a bizarre turn to the attack of fellow Christian regions through alliances, poor calculations, and series of decisions with the goal of sacking Jerusalem that ultimately led to the sacking of Constantinople in 1204. With the decision of traveling by sea rather than land, six representatives were sent to Venice to make an agreement of transportation. The deal included ships, knights, and horses with the assistance of Dodge enrico Dandolo, ruler of Venice, for 84,000 marks of silver. Does this fatal gain of power show a previous lack of it? Does forgoing one s life for an honorable cause improve a woman s reputation in turn giving her more power? Through our studies, we have discovered that typically women exhibit a limited amount of agency in ancient Greece. Women occasionally assert dominance in the household; although, even within the home they posses limited influence over their husbands. Furthermore, the women of Euripides tragedies are expected to withhold both their individual reputation and the reputation of the household. The importance of withholding one s reputation is stated in each of these tragedies. Admentus shows the importance when in Alcestis he says, What have I gained by living, friends, when reputation, life and action are all bad (960). Phaedra reemphasizes the importance of reputation in her speech, It would always be my choice to have my virtues known and honored. So when I do wrong I could not endure to see a circle of condemning witnesses (402 404). Consequently, reputation is a highly influential factor in society and it is desirable to uphold one s reputation. In the eye of a condemning society, Alcestis improves her reputation through the valiant way she gives her own life for her husband. She courageously does what none of his family members, even his elderly father would do, willingly gives up her life for her husband, for not one, except his wife, would consent to die for him, and not see daylight any more (17). This act showed loyalty, dedication, and love, all desirable feminine characteristics. At her death bed Alcestis shows how her reputation will improve pending her noble death: ... The central theme of The Killer Angelscenters around the concept that some decisions are difficult to make because they are neither wrong nor right, as exemplified through Generals who make difficult decisions on the battlefield, question the theology and morals of warfare, and are forced to make decisions with an unknown outcome. Furthermore, based on that observed phenomena, we can infer future phenomena of similar nature. More specifically, we can base our knowledge of future events by recalling past experiences (Hume 1993: 21). Hume s concept of cause and effect, however, does not come without consequences. These consequences are tied to logical reasoning regarding an event. In other words, we merely think that a fact is a fact because we assume that fact is caused by a previous experience. Furthermore, we assume events regarding cause and effect simply because we have witnessed similar events occur in the past, and therefore the same conclusion must follow. However, this is where the implication lies, that there is no logical reason to assume that an event or thing is caused by another, the only evidence we have of such an event is experience itself (Hume 1993: 22). To further clarify, Hume uses the example of a loaf of bread. A loaf of bread has certain consistency, weight, texture, as well as nourishment that follows its consumption. Hume claims that inferring that an object that we see in the future that has the same characteristics as the loaf of bread we first saw, so it must follow that eating it will also provide us with nourishment (Hume 1993: 22 23). In his 1871 book, Charles Darwin explains the origin of morality through studying the behavior of various species. In his essay, Origin of the Moral Sense Charles Darwin uses his theory of evolution to explain the origin of moralitythrough the study of animals, specifically mammals. Darwin s main theory of the Origin of the Moral Sense is that humans have natural social instincts which in turn gives them a sense of naturally occurring morality. Darwin s ideas surrounding morality and a natural social instinct have been echoed and added to by philosophers, almost a century later, David Barash and Robert Trivers. In his essay, the Origin of Moral Sense Charles Darwin explains the origin of morality and its relation to evolution. Darwin argues, that like animals, humans are descendants of natural selection. Darwin argues that not only our (meaning humans and animals) mental capacity evolved, so did our own moral sense. Darwin s first point in the Origin of Moral Sense is that ethics occurs naturally amongst animals. Darwin believes that animals have a sense of sympathy and need to do the right thing ingrained in them. Although Darwin believes it is instinctual to do good , it does not apply to the same species, only species of the same kind. The West Point Cheating Scandal Essay The West Point Cheating Scandal Description: In April of 1976 it was found that there was a possibility that over half of the junior class at West Point Academy had violated the West Point honor code by cheating on a case assignment. The honor code states A cadet will not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those who do. This was by far the largest violation of the honor code in West Point history and presented some unusual challenges to the administration. As the year dragged on it was found that more and more students possibly had cheated on the assignment and was also becoming a public relations nightmare in the press and internally to the Army branch of the United States military. The honor code at West Point was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The empowerment and enforcement of the code has always been up to the ethics committee which is made up of cadets itself. This had always been to exert pressure on all students to comply with the code by means of having to face your peers in hearings. The one part of the honor code that was a staple of controversy was the end that says no cadet will tolerate any action that violates the honor code. This implied that if you knew anything about a violation that you were just as liable as the offender himself. This part of the code was troubling for many considering you were dealing with comrades who were training next to you in close quarters and with serious future implications. This can be a very precarious situation for many and by holding students to it can promote more honor code violations. The problem here is the fact that anyone can make mistakes and in the situations involving the honor code West Point has taken the honor out of supporting your comrades as well as the honor of admitting to your mistakes. They have done this by issuing expulsion to all violators. It can be said that someone who can admit to their mistakes knowing the consequences that will ensue is of a stronger moral background than one who may not violate the code in the first place or someone who does not get caught. (Note: the current honor code allows for reacceptance to the academy after violations and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For my Early Intervention class, we had to observe Early Intervention programs. For my other class, we had to observe a place of our choosing and I was told I could use that program for my 9 hours as well. The first program was Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit to observe the Work Foundations Program. The second program I observed was Danville Head Start. Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit Work Foundations Program September 27th around 12:30, I went to Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit. While I was there, I observed the Work Foundations Program. The Work Foundations Program is a special education program focused on providing academic instruction and real life job training for young adults. Most of the young adults were a mix of emotional disturbance or intellectual disabilities, or both. Students receive multiple services such as, employment transition services which helps with resumes and cover letters, Practical Assessment Exploration System Lab (PAES) which is a stimulated work environment that exposes students to different work environment s and assesses their skills and interests, Academic Instruction and Remediation Lab students receive instruction in the areas of reading, writing, and math, and more. Comparing The Humpest And The Tempest Jason Kelliher in his academic article put forward a comparison between the spirits such as Ariel or Caliban depicted in The Tempest and the technological advances in Brave New World. They both are a form of technology and are the same kind of malicious control [...] to fulfill authoritarian goals . Science, and what is more magic in the Shakespeare s play, is really important to achieve a control on population through for example; with soma tablets in Brave New Worldand wine in The Tempest or with Hypnopaedia and the siren song that could be considered as a intentional determinism. These uses of technological advances, that are a requirement for any purportedly society , show according to Kelliher a deification [of] industry and makes possible to idealize the assembly line and downplay the moral and religious values of a more primitive age . This is ,this time, an intentional destruction of the religious primitivism. The new God of the World state would be Henry Ford as said in the date 642 After Ford which replace a... • 45. The Characteristics Of Hegemonic Masculinity In The Film Hegemonic masculinity is present in many forms throughout life and allows for certain types and groups of people to have an advantage. This typically discourages women, other genders, and men of not Caucasian decent. In many twenty first century movies this is prevalent and sets a standard for other people to follow which is wrong in so many ways. Throughout the films Dope and Rogue One hegemonic masculinityoccurs which causes men to perform acts to assert dominance, which in turns suppresses women and other races. In the filmDope hegemonic masculinityis present throughout the film. The main character Malcom, as well as Dom and AJ all display characteristics of the hegemonic masculinity. They all present ideas of homosocial interactions which include emotional detachment, competitiveness and sexual objectification of women. (Bird 131) This is extremely prevalent when Malcolm assumes the worst with Nakia being sent by Dom. He pushes her away which exemplifies emotional detachment. Early the sexual objectification of women comes into play when Malcolm becomes seduced by Lily and which leads to her domination and she uses it order to get the drugs which he has in his backpack. The story itself presents many manhood acts with the boys attempting upgrade their social status through parties and drugs. • 46. Bullying On Bullying The concept of bullying at work refers to all situations where one or more persons feel subjected to negative behavior from others in the workplace over a period of time and in a situation where they for different reasons are unable to defend themselves against these actions (Einasern, 2005). The young lady was been bullied and sexually harrased by her top exececutive boss, he had no right to make her feel that way to the point of ebven locking herself up just to avoid his lewd advances. Work rights are their to protect employes from such behvaiours from the boss, however I further read that in Russia Sexual harassmentis a norm in the work place because their culture has finally normalised it which can be clearly seen from the way the judge ruled on this case sexual harassment that the twenty year girl brought to his courtroom. In Russia, 40 percent of female professionals have had sex with their boss at least once, according to the story and eighty per cent of those who participated in the survey said they did not believe it possible to win promotion without engaging in sexual relations with their male superiors (Einasern, 2005). Such kind of notions makes it okay for the perpetrators to think that its normal to sexually harassed women at work and objectify it. I have been a similar situation where the top boss of our department s husband who works for the same company started sending me inappropriate emails; I went to my immediate boss and reported the emails. My immediate boss was afraid to deal with the situation because the perpetrators wife was her boss and friend. This left with no choice but to take to management. Management cautioned the perpetrator and he stopped but his wife started giving me a cold shoulder and started treating me differently after this, as if I was the one in the wrong. We have to bear in mind she was my boss as well, so you can imagine how uncomfortable the situation was at work. I did not care about her reaction because her husband is pig who caused two other young ladies before me to resign because of his sick behaviour. I still wonder why the company has not fired him knowing that he has done this before. Thankfully, I left the company a after that to start work at new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Theme Of Life Lies In Blanche Dubois Dealing with the harsh truths of life can be tough for anyone to handle, which is why people tell themselves lies. These lies are called life lies a falsehood used to rationalize the lifestyle people are living or actions they have committed. Tennessee Williams and Henrik Ibsen investigate how life lies can turn into delusions a state of mind or way of life when they are used to cope with the stresses of everyday life. Williams protagonist, Blanche DuBois, was a former southern belle forced to move in with her sister, Stella, after her husband s suicide and being evicted from Belle Reve, her family home. To cope with these traumatic events, Blanche decided to recreate her character. To do so, she lied to the people around about her sinful past because she wanted to appear to them as the pure, southern belle she once was. As the lies piled up, she came to believe them as truth, therefore, creating her delusion. Blanche only came to further and more deeply believe her delusion as the play progressed. On the other hand, Ibsen s protagonist, Nora, had been taken advantage of her whole life. She was merely a pawn of the two most important men in her life: her father and husband. Unlike Blanche, Nora s delusion was innate she was taught these lies were the truth from birth, whereas Blanche consciously created her delusions to protect her from past sins. Through a series of realizations, Nora came to see the truth of the lieshe was living. Nora was a doll confined to the walls and ways of Torvald, her husband s, doll house. Tennessee Williams, in A Streetcar Named Desire, and Henrik Ibsen, in A Doll s House, employ life lies portrayed as delusions as coping mechanisms; Ibsen explored how a new life and freedom can be gained from a realization of one s delusion, while Williams explored how unwillingness to accept a delusion can further trap and confine people. Williams utilized the symbols of light and darkness to hide Blanche physically just as she used lies to cover up and cope with her tainted past. Blanche avoided direct exposure to light because she was afraid of exposing herself and, therefore, her past. He wrote this book especially for Christian counselors, pastors, as well as students so that they may clearly understand the meaning of the three principles, allowing them to apply it to everyday problems. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McMinn 2011, lets us know that spirituality and psychology have to be used together in order for us to have a accurate sense of self, accurate awareness of need, and healing relationships. Concrete Responses After reading this book , I mostly thought about how I first integrated my faith with my personal relationships. I have been Christian for a couple of years now, but every person I get close to or friend I have are not all Christian. Therefore, I had to learn how to not let their habits influence me with what I do and say. I have friends that smoke, get drunk, curse, and many other things that I find not to be Christian behavior. These were once things that I also had taken part in, so continuing our friendship and letting go of bad habits was a struggle for me. Integrating my new life with my old life was changeling because I was always told that your are the company that you keep. I had to make sure I didn t get myself into situations that could hurt me in the long run. I was set on continuing the friendship I had and remaining a Christian as well. I can remember the first time my faith was tested. It was around five months after I changed my life around. I was invited to go out to the movies and out to eat with a big group of friends. Being that it was only a dinner and a movie, I assumed it would be okay. The night started off really well, we went to see a really great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Powers of the United States Congress as Established by the... The United States Congress was established by the Constitution to be the legislature branch of the Government as distinguished from the executive branch which is headed by the President and the judiciary. The system is organized in order for each of the branches to act as a check and balance on each of the other branches (Moyers, 1987). This check and balance nature of the system often results in creating friction between the branches but this was precisely the purpose behind the Founding Fathers setting the system up in this manner. The theory was that this would diminish the possibility of any one branch becoming too powerful in relation to the other branches. Congress, like the other two branches of the U.S. government, is limited to exercising only the powers specifically granted the Constitution. The powers granted Congress are enumerated in several different locations in the Constitution but the majority of its powers are set forth in Article I. The first of Congress enumerated powers is its authority to regulate commerce among the several states. Since first being addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark case of Gibbons v. Ogden (Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824) the power of Congress to engage itself in the operation of interstate commerce has been expanded, over time, to the point where Congress power to regulate commerce now includes any activities that substantially affects interstate commerce. One of Congress most significant powers is the authority ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
