Synthesis Essay On Intersex
Gender: a word society uses far too often without realizing its true complicated meaning.
Children are born every day and the golden question becomes Is it a boy or a girl? What would a
person do if they heard their child was neither or both? According to the National Institutes of
Health, One out of every 2,000 kids is born with genitals that cannot be clearly identified as maleor
female. These types of children are called Intersex , and they break the boundary of gender
identification. Intersex is a broad category for many situations where an individual s genital or
reproductive anatomy, or chromosomal pattern, lies between the normal standards of both male and
female. The prefix inter stands for between; therefore, the simple definition of intersex is between
the sexes. Intersex conditions usually result from a genetic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Intersex Society of North America s principle is that one s genitals are primarily for one s own
use, not for the comfort of others. therefore, the patient should be allowed to choose for their own
body and not have to stand by their parents preferences. There have been numerous cases, where an
infant was given unnecessary surgery to normalize them to fit society s standards. The family of
the children were told to keep their condition a secret, sometimes even keeping the condition a
secret from the child as well, just like Davis story. Today Intersex adults stand up against the
medical treatment they were given as children to say the treatment they received was harmful, lead
to sterility, ongoing pain, scarring, and incontinence, loss of genital sensation and sexual function,
and depression. (The Interface Project) Through support groups members have discoursed their
views and opinion of surgery performed on infants through their own personal experience
advocating that child should be able to have a say in their

Human Oppressiveness in Two Kinds and A P Essay
It was Emerson who said it best, For nonconformity, the world whips you with its displeasure
(Porter 1155). With a detailed look of Amy Tan s Two Kinds and John Updike s A P, you will
find that this quote is entirely applicable in the context of oppressiveness and in the likeness of
coming of age. These two stories document the different perspectives of two characters growing
up and how the role of the invisible hand of oppression guides developing adolescents into mature
adults; without prejudice or even forethought. The characters in question are: Sammy, an A P
store clerk whose time spent at work reveals how oppressed by society he is, and Jing Mei, whose
life and every move is dictated by the iron fist of her high expectations... Show more content on

oppressive force ) as a whole.
In the biographical essay Amy Tan by Karen Stein, she mentions how Tan s parents pressured
her to be both medical physician and pianist. She grew up around California, moving frequently.
At fifteen, Amy s father passed away. This was when her mother, Daisy, took her children to
Switzerland and enrolled them in school there, only to return again to California in the late
1960 s. Despite her parent s wishes, and her mother s pressure; Tan eventually switched her life
course when she changed her majors in college to English and Linguistics (2). As a now
successful American novelist, Tan has wrote such stores as the popular Joy Luck Club, a
collection of stories involving many Asian American characters involved in a Mahjong club and
the trials and tribulations they face as Old world American immigrants. Tan, today, is considered
and important voice among the groups of hyphenated Americans. (Stein 3) Two Kinds, in fact,
was one of the stories in the short series. As a reflection of her own past, Two Kinds itself was
largely a piece of Tan s history written in fictional form. John Updike, on the other hand, is a
prolific American writer whose career began by writing about such political issues like the Cold
War and the Iron Curtain. As a child of the Great Depression and enduring WWII, in similarity to
Tan, Updike was no stranger to uncertainty and hardship (Greiner 195). While Tan and Updike s

The Makings of Frida Kahlo Essay
It is impossible to separate the life and work of this extraordinary person, her paintings are her
biography. This was announces in 1953 by a local critic after her one and only solo exhibition in
Mexico (www.fridakahlo.com). Frida Kahlo was not only a magnificent painter, but also a
representation of her birth country Mexico, through her meaningful paintings. While in the midst
of nobody but herself, Frida found great inspiration to paint during the early to mid 1900 s. Her
passion for painting came from her traffic accident as a teenager, which left her paralyzed due to
fractures in her spine and pelvis. Even before the traffic accident, she contracted polio at the age of
six in the suburbs of Mexico Citywhere she grew up. Her image... Show more content on

This accident caused life threatening injuries including: fractures to her spine, collarbone and ribs,
a shattered pelvis, and shoulder and foot injuries ( A Tribute to Frida Kahlo). Not only did those
brutal injuries occur, but a metal bar within the bus also pierced through her abdomen and uterus
causing many birth defects down the road. The recovery made by the strong spirited Frida Kahlo
was remarkable.
Frida attended a National Preparatory School in 1922 hoping to become a doctor. At the same
school, she saw Diego Rivera, painting The Creation ( Biography.com ). Frida was inspired and
approached Diego with her compliments. He told her to go home and return with a painting in
one week for him to judge. When she did as he asked, he was very impressed with her artistic
ability and they became close ( Frida Kahlo: Biography ). Their relationship progressed and then
Frida got into her terrible bus accident.
Painting was the artistic escape route for Kahlo s mind and body. To occupy her mind after the
more than 30 surgeries, she began to paint as part of her recovery process. Fifty five of her one
hundred and forty three paintings were self portraits. These paintings were purposely painted in a
naГЇve way to show vulnerability ( A Tribute to Frida Kahlo ). A few of her most famous works
include: Self Portrait Between Mexico and the United States, 1932 , My Dress Hangs There, 1933 ,

Kate Chopin s An Hour
Author Kate Chopin is famous for some of the most influential feminist stories and novels in the
Western canon. The Story of an Hour is one such text. In this story, Chopin tackles many of the
concerns that are essential to feminism, including the willpower and expression of a woman s
distinctive identity separate from the identity of her husband and the right of a woman to identify
and experience her own interests. While there is an aspect of this story that is provocative, namely,
that Mrs. Mallard feels excited after learning that her husband has died, the reader can empathize
with Mrs. Mallard s feelings and support her.
Critics on Kate Chopin seem to focus their criticism on her themes and particular text than her
overall writing skills. One popular book for critics seems to be her novel The Awakening. The
book is now herald as her greatest work, yet when it was written reviewers rejected it for its
improper and vulgar subject matter (Stripe). One critic deems it not a healthy book, and another
determine that it leaves one sick of human nature. One writer even said the language to describe
the story was not fit for publication (Stripe). But today The Awakening is widely embraced, and
one critic in embracing the book said, Mrs. Kate Chopin s The Awakening, seems to me to be the
finest novel of its sort written by an American, and to rank among the world s masterpieces of short
fiction (Cantwell).
The short story is a powerful tale about a woman, Mrs.

Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment
Running Head: SEPSIS DETECTION AND TREATMENT
Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment
Steven H. Gregory
Chamberlain College of Nursing
March28, 2009
Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment Severe Sepsis affects 750,000 Americans and causes more
than 200,000 deaths annually. Sepsis is a complex condition that results from an infectious process
that represents the body s response to infection and involves systemic inflammatory and cellular
events that result in altered circulation and coagulation, endothelial dysfunction and impaired tissue
perfusion (Kleinpell, 2005). Associated mortality rates with sepsis in the United States have
remained largely unchanged for several decades. Through an international collaboration known as

Treatment of Sepsis
As stated in Rivers, Nguyed, Havstad, Ressler, Muzzin, Knolich et al. (2001):
Early hemodynamic assessment on the basis of physical findings, vital signs, central venous
pressure, and urinary output fails to detect persistent global tissue hypoxia. A more definitive
resuscitation strategy involves goal oriented manipulation of cardiac preload, afterload, and
contractility to achieve a balance between systemic oxygen delivery and oxygen demand. End
points used to confirm the achievement of such a balance (hereafter called resuscitation end points)
include normalized values for mixed venous oxygen saturation, arterial lactate concentration, base
deficit, and pH. Mixed venous oxygen saturation has been shown to be a surrogate for the cardiac
index as a target for hemodynamic therapy. In cases in which the insertion of a pulmonary artery
catheter is impractical, venous oxygen saturation can be measured in the central circulation (p.
1368).
The focus for the general care nurse outside of the ICU is to be able to recognize sepsis and to
initiate appropriate interventions in an appropriate amount of time. Nurses need to facilitate the
transfer of the patient to an ICU as urgently as possible. Once sepsis is suspected, it is important to
closely monitor patients for signs and symptoms of progression with increasing frequency of
assessments. While awaiting transfer of a patient to the ICU

Hobbes Social Contract Essay
The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political
philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas
Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern
was how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau
(1712 1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the
civil state produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his
conduct. In other words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society
they are corrupted. Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very
divergent views. This paper will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later
conclude why Hobbes has a more feasible hypothesis.
In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no
letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the
life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with
precautions as they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly
threatened since we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that
incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to

What Is The Family Stress Theory In One Hundred Years Of...
Families go through many struggles and each family has their own way of dealing with them. In
Gabriela GarcГa MГЎrquez s book, One Hundred Years of Solitude, the BuendГa family goes
through major ups and downs. The family s reactions to these events is perfect for examining
through the family stress theory. The family stress theory explores why families break apart or stay
together. By examining the BuendГas reactions to the events they go through, one can determine
whether the BuendГas are prone to falling apart or coming together when faced with adversity. This
paper will explore the three generations of BuendГas in the book, as well as their responses to their
respective stressful events. The three generations are JosГ© Arcadio BuendГa, Гљrsula and their
children, Arcadio, Santa SofГa and their children, and Fernanda s children and the later two
Aurelianos. Their responses to the events that happen in their lifetimes will be examined as well as
how these responses differ from the other generations. Examining these responses will explain the
source of the BuendГas strength in the beginning of the novel as well as the lack of strength as the
novel progresses Initially the BuendГas are prone to handling their issues together. Later on in the
book they start to drift off and expand into a separate entity instead of a cohesive group. The three
generations gradually show this change. The first BuendГas stick together through everything and
are written as a family working together. The first generation of Buendias adapted to the changes in
their family house more successfully then the future generations. The matriarch and patriarch of the
BuendГas, Гљrsula and JosГ© Arcadio BuendГa, introduce themselves as a strong couple. They
stick together While JosГ© deals with guilt after killing Prudencio Aguilar. This unity spreads
through to their children. Resilience, defined as the phenomenon of doing well in the face of
adversity(1) specifically in children, shows through Aureliano s behavior; he repeatedly steps up to
handle a crisis. Although Jose Arcadio and Ursula left the house, Jose Arcadio BuendГa and
Aureliano step up to take care of Amaranta as time put things in their place (GarcГa MГЎrquez 35).

The Use Of Light In White Mirror
Light is often used in films and television to show underlying thematic tensions in the narrative. In
the episode White Mirror from the Netflix series Black Mirror, the juxtaposition between light and
dark is used to show how Joe is struggling to accept the truth that he killed two people. In the first
scene and in the confession scene lightfrom the outside world represents truth, the darkness of the
cabin represents avoidance of the truth, and the shift between light to dark shows Joe s
transformation from avoidance to acceptance of his past.
Light is often associated with many ideas, so when the white light of the windows shine into the
cabin, it is necessary to consider the association light has within this narrative. The light in this

Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer Essay
Shaping Identity in William Gibson s Neuromancer
The number one is not a thing. Math has no definitive reality. Numbers are a social construct, a
system of symbols designed to express the abstractions through which properly developed
societies explain aspects of reality. It follows that, as humanity seeks to understand more of what it
is to exist, bigger numbers are needed. Soon, we need machines to understand the numbers.
Society plants a base on information technology, efficiency, and a mechanical precision that is
startling. What is desirable in a product is distilled to a formulaic essence and packaged neatly.
Humans, too, are boiled down to science. Glossy shots, red lipstick, concrete biceps, and an ever
decreasing waistline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Gibson s cyberpunk world, technology and humanity simultaneously clash and meld, creating a
society in which humans scramble to interact with technology, using it to gain footholds or augment
their actual physical bodies. Humanity, in a sense, ceases to be defined by being human The
Ashpools and Hideo, for instance, are clones, their DNA unoriginal, replicated like the numbers and
symbols that make up the infinite information networks of the Sprawl. More apparently, Dixie
Flatline is nothing more than a computer program hacked and grifted from a corporation, but he is
virtually the only major character in the book that treats Case like a friend without a motive behind
it, aside from Linda, who is relatively unimportant to the flow of the story after her initial
involvement. (Damyanov) Through this relationship, Dixie gains at least a semblance of humanity,
while Case is drawn ever closer to technology. Dixie himself illuminates the question of human
intelligence during a conversation with Case:
...Me, I m not human either, but I respond like one, see? Wait a sec, Case said. Are you sentient,
or not? Well, it feels like I am, kid, but I m really just a bunch of ROM. It s one of them, ah,
philosophical questions, I guess... The ugly laughter sensation rattled down Case s spine. But I ain

Connelly s The Echo Park is the twelfth book in the police procedural series featuring Los Angeles

The Three Year Strategic Plan Essay
The Three Year Strategic Plan for McDonald s A group of friends are walking down a street after
school, and one brings up the idea to get something to eat. Along the way, there are a handful of
restaurants: A local bistro known for its Italian cuisine, along with an astronomical price tag; a
submarine shop that s been open for a few months to favorable Yelp reviews, with a line is out
the door and nearly wrapped around the building; and McDonald s, which is not necessarily the
favorite place for all of the friends involved, but there s enough choices for each person to find
something that they are willing to eat, without taking a large chunk out of their allowance. After
a general consensus, the group makes their way into McDonalds, and orders a variety of items:
One person decides on a double cheeseburger, another orders a fish sandwich, and another person
orders some chicken nuggets. Everyone also orders a side of fries and a soft drink. The cashier
takes their orders, provides change to those who used cash, and places each order on a tray. Each
person takes their meals to a nearby table, and they continue to converse amongst one another.
Regarding restaurants, fast food is not a new concept. If anything, if we look towards the past,
McDonald s could be considered the grandfather to changing how the general public makes
decisions on where they decide to eat, especially if they are on a limited budget and have little

Behavioral Finance And Its Effects On The Economy

Throughout the history of finance mankind has devised various ways to predict future costs, price
changes, changes in supply and demand, and changes to bond and stock prices. We ve created

economy, and changes in taste, we can try our best to protect ourselves financially from our own

Conventional Finance Many finance specialist use conventional finance to assist them with

such as the Capital Asset Pricing Model and the Efficient Market Hypothesis. This section describes

theories available at the time. While these theories could explain certain idealized events, the real

STORY COMMENTS
AMERICAN WHORE offers an intriguing inside look into the two fascinating worlds. One is the
world of prostitution and the other is the world of bank fraud. What is cleverly emphasized is that
both of these worlds are similar. While some women prostitute their self for money, so does the
government and politicians. It s an interesting comparison.
The script is driven by solid themes of greed, seduction, and corruption.
While the connection between prostitution and the government is well appreciated, the script
would benefit from more development. Some of the areas that are worthy of discussion are
structure, tone, tension, and some more character development.

Beauty Document Analysis
Beauty pageants show the positive of being thin, glamourous and what the perfect ideal
beautiful females should look like. Little Miss Sunshine shows that children also have a very
competitive idea of what is perfect and acceptable for children. Society and media along with
parents and peers show young children and young adults that being thin and beautiful is the only
acceptable norm in the world. Even though not all children or young adults are think and
beautiful they are still very beautiful. The world needs to show that all young children and young
adults are beautiful, no matter if they are think or not, parents and peers need to stop
discouraging young children and young adults to only be a certain way. All young children and
young adults should have support and encouragement regarding their bodies. Background The

Power Leads to Corruption
Power makes individuals corrupt
Corruption is when people in positions of entrusted power abuse their power for their own personal
gains [or to fulfill the agendas of the group they represent] (Transparency International). Lord Acton,
a nineteenth century historian, argued that power is the root cause of corruption. The more power
one has, the more corrupt one is likely to become ( Biography of Lord Acton. ). Although some
commentators argue that there is no correlation between power and corruption, however Lord
Acton was right because power makes individuals egocentric, makes the powerful less sympathetic
towards those who are inferior, and makes a person hypocrite.
First of all, power is such a tool that it makes individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They instead increased their own budgets as compared to the last budget and all of this was at the
cost of low subsidies on essential food items, electricity and other the necessities of life (Ali,
Kalbe. Areas That Matter Most. ). Hence a logical conclusion that follows is that powerful
individuals use their power for their personal gains and are not concerned about the effect of their
doings on the society.
Another major reason because of which power tends to corrupt is that people with absolute
power usually become less sympathetic towards those with no or less power and do not consider
the perspective of other individuals. Adam Galinsky, a psychologist at Northwestern University
conducted a series of experiments to find whether powerful individual give importance to others
or not. As part of the experiment, Galinsky asked the participants to write letter E on their
forehead. The results of the experiment showed that participant who were primed with the feeling
of power wrote E backward, when seen by another person (Lehrer, Jonah. How Power Corrupts. ).
This experiment clearly shows how powerful individuals see the world through their own eyes and
do not care for what other view. Besides this, example from history also proves the point

According to (Homa Sheikh Sajadieh, 2013) Waste elimination is one of the most effective
ways to increase the profitability of any business. Processes either add value or waste to the
production of a good or service. The seven wastes originated in Japan, where waste is known as
muda . The seven wastes is a tool to further categorize muda and was originally developed by
Toyota s Chief Engineer Taiichi Ohno as the core of the Toyota Production System
, also known as
Lean Manufacturing. To eliminate waste, it is important to understand exactly what waste is and
where it exists. While products significantly differ between factories, the typical wastes found in
manufacturing environments are quite similar. For each waste, there is a strategy to reduce or
eliminate its effect on a company, thereby improving overall performance and quality .
The seven types of waste are:
1.Waste from overproduction.
2.Waste from waiting times.
3.Waste from transportation and handling.
4.Waste related to useless and excess inventories.
5.Waste in the production process.
6.Useless motions.
7.Waste from scrap and defects.
According to (Okpala, 2014) In Lean Production System, waste (which is referred to as muda in
Japan) is described as anything that destroys resources and does not add any value to the customer
s requirements. This is because manufacturing waste is the application of resources like raw
materials, labor, equipment, or machines over and above what is

The Confederate Of Hypocrites Character Analysis
The Confederacy of Hypocrites John Kennedy Toole killed himself after his book, The
Confederacy of Dunces, was rejected by a number of publishers. It wasn t until after he died that
the book came to Walker Percy, who pushed for its publication. In the foreword for the book,
Percy calls the book sad, he says one never quite knows where the sadness comes from from the
tragedy at the heart of Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventures or the tragedy
attending the book itself (Percy ix). Though not obvious, the book offers evidence to suggest that
the sadness does have a root in Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventure[s] and has
nothing to do with the author s suicide, as tragic as that may be. The book is a critique of ordinary
society s shortcomings but subsequently offers no solution or example of redemption. Toole s main
tool for conveying his critique is through his main character, Ignatius J. Reilly, a pretentious, lazy,
slob, whom stumbles from page to page in the book centering the entire plot around his grotesque
self. Through the characterization of Ignatius and his interactions with society around him, The
Confederacy illustrates a phenomenon in which people s outward judgements become... Show more

Essay On Death Cloud By Andrew Lane
Death Cloud By Andrew Lane The book I read was Death Cloud by Andrew Lane, it is about

Sherlock Holmes was known as, but have you ever wondered how he got that way. This book

I like Sherlock Holmes.
This book changed my outlook by taking a character I already knew about and cared for. Sherlock
Holmes has been in many movies and shows that I have been a part of while watching. A way of
connecting to a character is to watch what they are a part of and putting yourself in the situations,
and the moment you find out something new your whole thoughts of that character changes.

Water Scarcity in Michigan Essay example
Nestle in Michigan is a video clip on YouTube about the Nestle corporations bottled water plants
with a primary focus being on the plant located in Stanwood, Michigan (Menzies, 2010). Nestle

original 450 gallons per minute) (Menzies, 2010). In other words, Nestle is pumping dangerously
large amounts of water that is free to them as propertyowners, selling it for a profit, and not being

It is now an issue that will have them both wasting time and money on investigations, lawyers,

Attorney Jim Olson said, Water is a transient gift on earth for life (Menzies, 2010). To me this
means water was provided to us by God as a means of survival and ongoing life. Water belongs to
no one person yet all of us at the same time. A better solution than House Bill 6443 would be a
bill that instead imposes a high tax on the withdrawal of water for commercial use. Honestly I
can t believe there is no such law. Government should play a larger role in the preservation of our
natural resources; however it is ultimately up to us as individuals to be conscious consumers.
Without consumers there are no markets. I found this video to be quite disturbing. I have always
felt bottled water was a waste but never realized to what extent. This video is another affirmation
of what a waste of money and gross, unnecessary, waste of natural resource bottled water is.
Before anyone ever sold bottled water, the market for it did not exist; there was no demand for
bottled water. People carried it with them, found an alternate source, or went without. I too have

Benefits Of The Prepaid Plan
We know college can be very expensive. There are many expenses for higher education including;
tuition, room and board, books, and extra cost. That being said, there are many programs and plans
that can assist with the cost. I will discuss 529 plans, Coverdell education savings account,
American Opportunity TaxCredit, Lifetime Learning Credits, and tuition fees.
There is a 529 Plan that can help the parent start preparing for their child s college. The plan will
help families save many for future college funding. The plan is setup into two plans, saving and
prepaid. Saving plans work by investing your money in shared funds. If the family were to
choose the savings plan, it comes with different options to invest the family s money in. The
account will either increase or decrease in value based on the investment. The prepaid plan will
allow the family to pre pay all of the cost for public higher education. The prepaid plan may also be
converted for a private college. Even though contributions are not deductible, the income in the
plan is federally tax free. Therefore, the income will not be taxed when they are removed to pay
for college. The 529 plan does not have to be reported on tax return. The donor will stay in control
of the account. The account owner can withdraw funds at any time, but non qualified withdrawals
will earn income tax and a ten percent tax. Anyone can qualify for a 529 plan. There are no limits
on income, age, or yearly contribution. (В§529)

Investigating the Sources of Finance Essay
Investigating the Sources of Finance
I m now going to investigate the sources of finance available to you when setting up your new
business. I will separate the sources of finance needed into three categories; start up costs, running
costs and expansion costs.
When starting up your new business premises will need to be secured from which you will
trade. I m going to look at ways that you could secure premises. The first option available to you
is a mortgage; these are long term loans offered by banks or building societies based on property
as collateral. Interest must be paid on the mortgage, but this will cover the original sum and when
the money has been paid back, you become the owner of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

to purchase this machinery and equipment you will need to use medium term sources of finance.
These could be; a bank loan, this is a quick and easy source of finance, but this would mean paying
interest. Also the bank may require collateral, and the machinery and equipment may be
repossessed if loan repayments aren t met. Another source of medium term finance available to
you is leasing. This means that a firm could lease you the machinery and equipment that you will
need. However, although less initial finance is needed to obtain the assets, over time this works
out more expensive than buying. Hire purchase is similar to leasing except the firm will eventually
own the assets. The assets are paid for in instalments, whilst the business is using them, this
however can bring with it major cash flow problems, because interest payments can be very high.
My recommendation when attempting to secure a source of finance for machinery and equipment
would be to get a bank loan. I recommend this because; the machinery and equipment is instantly
accessible to the business allowing it to operate, also the interest payments aren t as high as hire
purchase, and with a bank loan the assets become the property of the business once all repayments
are met.
Fixtures and Fittings are also essential when operating from the

Taking a Look at Home Schooling
Home schooling is a type of education that takes place in the home; it can be defined as parents
or a small group of students from a community studying an academic curriculum at home or any
confined place either for personal reasons or any other purpose. It has been a controversial
choice for education and has been opposed by many in the past since the early twentieth century
as it was illegal in most states. Home schooling topic which was not even considered earlier is
now being regarded salient as we can observe the drastic change from 19th century to now, Ray s
studies shows that, A dramatic change began around the late 1970s, one that resulted in slightly
more than 2 million home schooled students in grades K to 12 in the United States during the
spring of 2010 (324) also, Between 1999 and 2007, homes schoolers in the United States increased
by an estimated 74 percent twelve times the rate of public schoolgrowth and now likely number
more than two million altogether (Kunzman 76) but Johnson has given the statistics in another

distributed in the same way in every country. Hence, I am not only focusing on the myth that has

Political Parties And Democratic Parties
The political party is an organization of people who share similar ideas about the way the country
should be governed. Political parties perform important tasks in government. In fact, political
parties select candidates and check the other party. Political parties also inform the public. Most
importantly, they organize the government (Political Parties, n.d.). The history of U.S political
parties begins with the Federalists and their opponents the Anti Federalists who became the
Democratic Republicans. Two major political parties in the United States today, however, are
Democrats and Republicans. The U.S is one of the very few countries with only two dominant
parties and there is so much attention focused on only two parties in the United State. Why Only
Two Parties (n.d) explained that the two party system in the U.S is largely due to what is called
plurality voting in single member districts, also means, winner takes all voting system. In addition,
the two parties, Democrats and Republicans, have essentially crowded out the other minor parties.
It makes extremely difficult for someone from one of those parties to become elected (Ch. 7). These
two parties, the Democrats and Republicans, survived through the decades and they have
contrasting beliefs that distinguish them from one another.
Firstly, of the two current major political parties, the one with oldest roots is the Democratic Party.
The first two presidents of the US George Washington and John Adams

Knowledge and Technology in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court is a complicated novel that fundamentally deals with
the concept of the human experience. Hank Morgan is a nineteenth century mechanic who is
transported back thirteen centuries to medieval Britain, during the time of King Arthur. After his
initial shock, he becomes determined to civilize Camelot by introducing modern industrial
technology. At an initial look Twain seems to be favoring the industrialized capitalist society that
he lives in over the feudal society of medieval Britain. But in a closer examination of the work it
becomes clear that this observation is much too simple, as the industrial world that Hank Morgan ...

(Twain 40). Hank forgets his own humanity and begins to believe that his knowledge makes him
more of a man, just as the nobility that he shunned believed they were better than the serfs because
of the titles they held.
Hank Morgan uses his superior knowledge of technology to gain personal power. It soon becomes
clear that even though thirteen hundred years have given Hank a technological advantage, they
haven t made him any smarter. Twain himself says of Hank,
...this Yankee of mine has neither the refinement nor the weakness of a college education; he is a
perfect ignoramus; he is boss of a machine shop; he can build a locomotive or a Colt s revolver, he
can put up and run a telegraph line, but he s an ignoramus, nevertheless. (Guttmann 103)
Hank possesses all of this technological knowledge, but fails to understand the implications that
this knowledge will have on the people of the Camelot. Instead of educating the general public and
teaching them how and why something works instead he sends a select few to his man factories .
He uses his knowledge instead to produce fantastic miracles, which although they give him
personal power, continue to perpetuate the superstitions of the populace that he is trying to
overcome. For example, Hank is asked to fix the well at the Valley of Holiness. He installs a pump
that will return the water,

West Coast Trail Narrative Essay
10 members of 3 CDSG Signal Squadron have recently returned from completing the West Coast
Trail, on Vancouver Island, BC as part of the Squadron Adventure Training which ran from 29
April to 09 May 2017. Arriving in Victoria from Dets scattered from Shilo, MB to Chilliwack,
BC, the team had one day to gather last minute supplies, and distribute shared items to spread the
weight. After deploying to the northern trail head at Gordon River, we spent the night at a local
campsite so that step off could be as early as possible. This started wonderfully until we got a
small scare when someone thought that there was a bear in camp in the middle of the night,
waking us all up with their scream. The first day started out with a sunny morning... Show more

Due to the rain slowing our progress to barely 1km in an hour at times, the command team
determined that we would use our scheduled rest day at the end of the hike to give us an extra day
on the trail instead. This allowed us to complete the most difficult section of the trail in a safe
manner. It s a good thing we were a group of prepared Signalers, out came the satellite phone and
calls were made. The final days, with stops at Camper Bay and Thrasher Cove, provided the highest
concentration of ladders on the trail, as well as the last 3 cable cars. Our stay at Camper Bay gave
us our first encounter with any type of large and possibly dangerous wildlife in the form of a lone
black bear. No issues were had as it grazed on plants and checked us out from across the creek. The
Warrant kept an eye on his bear spray as we all took photos and selfies from a safe distance, before
it was bored of us and headed back into the woods. The final day we awoke early to ensure we
would make the last ferry at 1530. After a short climb out of the campsite, we took a break for
breakfast and a few photos to mark the last leg. Then we were off on the final kilometers of the
trip with the goal to have everyone finished and off the trail by lunchtime. After a few more
ladders and passing a derelict Donkey engine, a large steam powered machine that was used for
logging, we got to the top of the final and steepest ladder on the trail. This took us down to the
beach where we signaled and

City Of Thorns Rhetorical Devices
Human right is a critical topic across the world. The world started to pay more attention to this
situation after slavery and the fact that individuals would be held captured in refugee camps. Every
country should protect their citizen from getting their human rights violated. Currently in our world
today there are still many countries that have trouble safeguarding human rights. The same conThe
author of City Of Thorns used many rhetorical devices to convey his message. Ben s writing
gives a wonderful explanation of what was happening in these refugee camps. The use of
imagery gave me the picture of what was happening in these refugee camps. The author uses
many different characters to share their experience in the camps. Ben introduces a young kid
named Guled that has been through a lot in his life. Guled was born in a city of sadness and war.
He was a good kid that wanted to get an education and had a passion for soccer. By adolescence,
both of his parents have died, and the city was getting worse every day. Guled and his sister
lived in the same house that their parents left before they got killed. His sister was doing the
impossible to protect herself and Guled. She would sell items on the street to bring a plate to the
table. In the city where Guled lived there was a group named al Shabaab. Their job was to
capture kids like Guled and make them force individuals to pray. The people in Somalia wanted to
leave and go across the border to Kenyan where everything

  • 2. Synthesis Essay On Intersex Gender: a word society uses far too often without realizing its true complicated meaning. Children are born every day and the golden question becomes Is it a boy or a girl? What would a person do if they heard their child was neither or both? According to the National Institutes of Health, One out of every 2,000 kids is born with genitals that cannot be clearly identified as maleor female. These types of children are called Intersex , and they break the boundary of gender identification. Intersex is a broad category for many situations where an individual s genital or reproductive anatomy, or chromosomal pattern, lies between the normal standards of both male and female. The prefix inter stands for between; therefore, the simple definition of intersex is between the sexes. Intersex conditions usually result from a genetic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Intersex Society of North America s principle is that one s genitals are primarily for one s own use, not for the comfort of others. therefore, the patient should be allowed to choose for their own body and not have to stand by their parents preferences. There have been numerous cases, where an infant was given unnecessary surgery to normalize them to fit society s standards. The family of the children were told to keep their condition a secret, sometimes even keeping the condition a secret from the child as well, just like Davis story. Today Intersex adults stand up against the medical treatment they were given as children to say the treatment they received was harmful, lead to sterility, ongoing pain, scarring, and incontinence, loss of genital sensation and sexual function, and depression. (The Interface Project) Through support groups members have discoursed their views and opinion of surgery performed on infants through their own personal experience advocating that child should be able to have a say in their ... • 3. Human Oppressiveness in Two Kinds and A P Essay It was Emerson who said it best, For nonconformity, the world whips you with its displeasure (Porter 1155). With a detailed look of Amy Tan s Two Kinds and John Updike s A P, you will find that this quote is entirely applicable in the context of oppressiveness and in the likeness of coming of age. These two stories document the different perspectives of two characters growing up and how the role of the invisible hand of oppression guides developing adolescents into mature adults; without prejudice or even forethought. The characters in question are: Sammy, an A P store clerk whose time spent at work reveals how oppressed by society he is, and Jing Mei, whose life and every move is dictated by the iron fist of her high expectations... In the biographical essay Amy Tan by Karen Stein, she mentions how Tan s parents pressured her to be both medical physician and pianist. She grew up around California, moving frequently. At fifteen, Amy s father passed away. This was when her mother, Daisy, took her children to Switzerland and enrolled them in school there, only to return again to California in the late 1960 s. Despite her parent s wishes, and her mother s pressure; Tan eventually switched her life course when she changed her majors in college to English and Linguistics (2). As a now successful American novelist, Tan has wrote such stores as the popular Joy Luck Club, a collection of stories involving many Asian American characters involved in a Mahjong club and the trials and tribulations they face as Old world American immigrants. Tan, today, is considered and important voice among the groups of hyphenated Americans. (Stein 3) Two Kinds, in fact, was one of the stories in the short series. As a reflection of her own past, Two Kinds itself was largely a piece of Tan s history written in fictional form. John Updike, on the other hand, is a prolific American writer whose career began by writing about such political issues like the Cold War and the Iron Curtain. As a child of the Great Depression and enduring WWII, in similarity to Tan, Updike was no stranger to uncertainty and hardship (Greiner 195). While Tan and Updike s style differ greatly, ... • 4. The Makings of Frida Kahlo Essay It is impossible to separate the life and work of this extraordinary person, her paintings are her biography. This was announces in 1953 by a local critic after her one and only solo exhibition in Mexico (www.fridakahlo.com). Frida Kahlo was not only a magnificent painter, but also a representation of her birth country Mexico, through her meaningful paintings. While in the midst of nobody but herself, Frida found great inspiration to paint during the early to mid 1900 s. Her passion for painting came from her traffic accident as a teenager, which left her paralyzed due to fractures in her spine and pelvis. Even before the traffic accident, she contracted polio at the age of six in the suburbs of Mexico Citywhere she grew up. Her image... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This accident caused life threatening injuries including: fractures to her spine, collarbone and ribs, a shattered pelvis, and shoulder and foot injuries ( A Tribute to Frida Kahlo). Not only did those brutal injuries occur, but a metal bar within the bus also pierced through her abdomen and uterus causing many birth defects down the road. The recovery made by the strong spirited Frida Kahlo was remarkable. Frida attended a National Preparatory School in 1922 hoping to become a doctor. At the same school, she saw Diego Rivera, painting The Creation ( Biography.com ). Frida was inspired and approached Diego with her compliments. He told her to go home and return with a painting in one week for him to judge. • 5. Kate Chopin s An Hour Author Kate Chopin is famous for some of the most influential feminist stories and novels in the Western canon. The Story of an Hour is one such text. In this story, Chopin tackles many of the concerns that are essential to feminism, including the willpower and expression of a woman s distinctive identity separate from the identity of her husband and the right of a woman to identify and experience her own interests. While there is an aspect of this story that is provocative, namely, that Mrs. Mallard feels excited after learning that her husband has died, the reader can empathize with Mrs. Mallard s feelings and support her. Critics on Kate Chopin seem to focus their criticism on her themes and particular text than her overall writing skills. One popular book for critics seems to be her novel The Awakening. The book is now herald as her greatest work, yet when it was written reviewers rejected it for its improper and vulgar subject matter (Stripe). One critic deems it not a healthy book, and another determine that it leaves one sick of human nature. One writer even said the language to describe the story was not fit for publication (Stripe). But today The Awakening is widely embraced, and one critic in embracing the book said, Mrs. Kate Chopin s The Awakening, seems to me to be the finest novel of its sort written by an American, and to rank among the world s masterpieces of short fiction (Cantwell). Gregory Chamberlain College of Nursing March28, 2009 Sepsis Early Detection and Treatment Severe Sepsis affects 750,000 Americans and causes more than 200,000 deaths annually. Sepsis is a complex condition that results from an infectious process that represents the body s response to infection and involves systemic inflammatory and cellular events that result in altered circulation and coagulation, endothelial dysfunction and impaired tissue perfusion (Kleinpell, 2005). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Treatment of Sepsis As stated in Rivers, Nguyed, Havstad, Ressler, Muzzin, Knolich et al. (2001): Early hemodynamic assessment on the basis of physical findings, vital signs, central venous pressure, and urinary output fails to detect persistent global tissue hypoxia. A more definitive resuscitation strategy involves goal oriented manipulation of cardiac preload, afterload, and contractility to achieve a balance between systemic oxygen delivery and oxygen demand. End points used to confirm the achievement of such a balance (hereafter called resuscitation end points) include normalized values for mixed venous oxygen saturation, arterial lactate concentration, base deficit, and pH. Mixed venous oxygen saturation has been shown to be a surrogate for the cardiac index as a target for hemodynamic therapy. In cases in which the insertion of a pulmonary artery catheter is impractical, venous oxygen saturation can be measured in the central circulation (p. 1368). The focus for the general care nurse outside of the ICU is to be able to recognize sepsis and to initiate appropriate interventions in an appropriate amount of time. Nurses need to facilitate the transfer of the patient to an ICU as urgently as possible. • 7. Hobbes Social Contract Essay The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern was how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the civil state produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his conduct. In other words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society they are corrupted. Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very divergent views. This paper will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later conclude why Hobbes has a more feasible hypothesis. In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with precautions as they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly threatened since we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. What Is The Family Stress Theory In One Hundred Years Of... Families go through many struggles and each family has their own way of dealing with them. In Gabriela GarcГa MГЎrquez s book, One Hundred Years of Solitude, the BuendГa family goes through major ups and downs. The family s reactions to these events is perfect for examining through the family stress theory. The family stress theory explores why families break apart or stay together. By examining the BuendГas reactions to the events they go through, one can determine whether the BuendГas are prone to falling apart or coming together when faced with adversity. This paper will explore the three generations of BuendГas in the book, as well as their responses to their respective stressful events. The three generations are JosГ© Arcadio BuendГa, Гљrsula and their children, Arcadio, Santa SofГa and their children, and Fernanda s children and the later two Aurelianos. Their responses to the events that happen in their lifetimes will be examined as well as how these responses differ from the other generations. Examining these responses will explain the source of the BuendГas strength in the beginning of the novel as well as the lack of strength as the novel progresses Initially the BuendГas are prone to handling their issues together. Later on in the book they start to drift off and expand into a separate entity instead of a cohesive group. The three generations gradually show this change. The first BuendГas stick together through everything and are written as a family working together. The first generation of Buendias adapted to the changes in their family house more successfully then the future generations. The matriarch and patriarch of the BuendГas, Гљrsula and JosГ© Arcadio BuendГa, introduce themselves as a strong couple. They stick together While JosГ© deals with guilt after killing Prudencio Aguilar. This unity spreads through to their children. Resilience, defined as the phenomenon of doing well in the face of adversity(1) specifically in children, shows through Aureliano s behavior; he repeatedly steps up to handle a crisis. Although Jose Arcadio and Ursula left the house, Jose Arcadio BuendГa and Aureliano step up to take care of Amaranta as time put things in their place (GarcГa MГЎrquez 35). The family ... It wasn t until after he died that the book came to Walker Percy, who pushed for its publication. In the foreword for the book, Percy calls the book sad, he says one never quite knows where the sadness comes from from the tragedy at the heart of Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventures or the tragedy attending the book itself (Percy ix). Though not obvious, the book offers evidence to suggest that the sadness does have a root in Ignatius s great gaseous rages and lunatic adventure[s] and has nothing to do with the author s suicide, as tragic as that may be. The book is a critique of ordinary society s shortcomings but subsequently offers no solution or example of redemption. Toole s main tool for conveying his critique is through his main character, Ignatius J. Reilly, a pretentious, lazy, slob, whom stumbles from page to page in the book centering the entire plot around his grotesque self. That being said, there are many programs and plans that can assist with the cost. I will discuss 529 plans, Coverdell education savings account, American Opportunity TaxCredit, Lifetime Learning Credits, and tuition fees. There is a 529 Plan that can help the parent start preparing for their child s college. The plan will help families save many for future college funding. The plan is setup into two plans, saving and prepaid. Saving plans work by investing your money in shared funds. If the family were to choose the savings plan, it comes with different options to invest the family s money in. The account will either increase or decrease in value based on the investment. The prepaid plan will allow the family to pre pay all of the cost for public higher education. The prepaid plan may also be converted for a private college. Even though contributions are not deductible, the income in the plan is federally tax free. Therefore, the income will not be taxed when they are removed to pay for college. The 529 plan does not have to be reported on tax return. The donor will stay in control of the account. The account owner can withdraw funds at any time, but non qualified withdrawals will earn income tax and a ten percent tax. Anyone can qualify for a 529 plan. These could be; a bank loan, this is a quick and easy source of finance, but this would mean paying interest. This means that a firm could lease you the machinery and equipment that you will need. However, although less initial finance is needed to obtain the assets, over time this works out more expensive than buying. Hire purchase is similar to leasing except the firm will eventually own the assets. The assets are paid for in instalments, whilst the business is using them, this however can bring with it major cash flow problems, because interest payments can be very high. My recommendation when attempting to secure a source of finance for machinery and equipment would be to get a bank loan.
