Samsung s Accounting Probe And Its Impact On The...
In July of 2015, Toshiba Corporation announced that an independent party had discovered that there
were accounting irregularities. Accounting irregularities sounds like a nice way to say, they have
uncovered fraud. In addition, Chief Executive Hisao Tanaka s accounting irregularities forced him
to resign. At the time of the initial announcement, the overstatement was thought to be around $3.2
billion in charges ( Toshibas Accounting Probe, 2015, para. 1). How can this happen? The why
and how can usually be summed up to greed and poor ethics in the leadership and culture inside of
these large organizations. However, to help us understand the scale of this scandal, it is important
to look at the time line and disclosures as the company... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing so, the seller can recognize some gain or loss related to a project in every accounting
period in which the project continues to be active. The method works best when it is reasonably
possible to estimate the stages of project completion on an ongoing basis or at least to estimate
the remaining costs to complete a project. (para.1) Already we start to see that this method in itself
is not at fault, but rather it creates an environment where people who have poor ethics can
manipulate the system to provide a more favorable outcome. On May 8, Toshiba announced it was
expanding its investigation and setting up a third party committee, canceled dividend payments
and withdrew its earnings forecast. ( Toshiba s Accounting Probe, 2015, para. 4). Again, to the
outside observer who is paying attention this does not sound good. Clearly the problem was well
known and widespread throughout the organization. On May 13th, Toshiba announces it is likely
to take mark downs in operating profit for three years through March of 2014 ( Toshiba s
Accounting Probe , 2015, para. 5). On May 22nd, Toshiba extends the investigation to three more
business units (para. 7). This is the first indication that it might be far more widespread for
instances of improper accounting. The company reports that it found 12 instances of irregularities,

Tone Of One Perfect Rose
At first glance the poem One Perfect Rose may seem like a poem about love and romance, but
further analysis shows the opposite. The first two stanzas of the poem can be misleading, as they
lead one to believe that it s a romantic moment to a past memory. However, with the poems sudden
change in tone, the third stanza takes on more of a cynical view. You hear the dissatisfaction in the
speaker s tone, as she wants more. The title conveys irony, as it shows that the roseis anything but
perfect. In a way the poem seems to describe Parkers feelings about life, even though she had a lot
going for her she just wasn t satisfied. Because of the shift in tone, the poems entire meaning goes
from sweet to a bitter recount. The first opening line of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wants more than a rose, when she states. Why is it no one ever sent me yet one perfect
limousine do you suppose? The word limousine implies that she maybe materialistic. Upon this,
as the reader, one has to understand the context in which the poem was written in. It was written
in 1937 when the Great Depression occurred. Because Parker faced many financial uncertainties,
all she really wanted was to be sure she was financially stable. The phrase one perfect rose is
repeated throughout stanza 1 and stanza 2, thus making it a refrain. On the other hand, the
mocking repetition of one perfect indicates the underlining attitude of the speaker in the last
stanza. Suddenly the phrase one perfect rose becomes disrupted when the speaker desires one
perfect limousine. Moreover, the tone suddenly changes when she states, do you suppose? . The
question is implied to the reader as the poem takes on more of a conversational tone. The poem
suddenly takes on more of a sarcastic tone, as a lot of Dorothy Parkers poem are really known for.
They are known for their witty remarks and irony. Line 11 and 12 states, Ah no, it s always just my
luck to get one perfect rose. The fact that she states ah no signifies disappointment, but it also
becomes more conversational instead of formal. In line 11 the word, just my luck actually means
that something unfortunate

Endgame Play Essay
On April 25th, I spent my Tuesday evening watching the production, Endgame, which is located
in the Mason Hall of vertical building at 17 Lexington Avenue. Honestly, I was looking forward
to this production because I ve never seen a play at the Baruch s vertical campus theater. I was
also curious for the plotline of Endgame because I remember that Eric Krebs mentioned that this
play was going to be very difficult to understand as it is meant for adults. After observing Endgame
for about 75 minutes, I can undoubtingly conclude that it was one of the most confusing, but
brilliant theatrical productions I ve ever watched. Endgame by Samuel Beckett focuses on the life
of the two protagonist Hamm and Clov who live with both of Hamm s parents after an apocalyptic
disaster. Throughout the play, Hamm continuously orders Clov, who is his servant, to follow
routines such as opening the curtains, checking out of the window with a telescope, or moving
Hamm s wheelchair to the middle of the room. It was, honestly, very difficult for me to... Show

Clov and Hamm would perform the same unfinished routines each day as if there is nothing
much left to do as their endings are approaching. It is a way to show the audience, especially the
older people, that death is going to occur, but it is still a scary thing to face. Isolation is another
main point in the Endgame. The two protagonists have shown that even though there is constant
bickering, they both needed each other. They are afraid of being alone, which is a common
struggle many people deal with in life. I believe Krebs was correct because this was play that
older people can definitely relate to. There was not any particular scene that spoke out to me
because the entire play was indeed splendid. For the most part, the meaning behind the story was
amazing and

Lena Coakley s Short Story Mirror Image
Life: A Journey of Challenges Pulkit Sahi Ms.Helme ENG3U0 Tuesday, October 7, 2014 As we
grow, we face new challenges, which is all part of our journey as we try to find ourselves and
what we are best at. Lena Coakley takes the idea of self realization and portrays it through the
character Alice, in her story Mirror Image . The author Cathy Jewison brings up the concept of
finding what you are good at, through the protagonist Norman, in her story The Prospector s Trail
. Although both stories focus on the main idea of facing new challenges while growing and
changing, The Prospector s Trail plot is based more on finding your passion rather than finding
yourself. Mirror Image consists of Alice, a young teenager who... Show more content on

Like Alice, who has a hard time adjusting to her new body, Norman has a hard time adjusting to a
new place. When Norman is out finding something he is good at, Norman s eyes misted over
and his throat constricted, but the cause was neither the rain in his in his eyes nor the stench in
his nose. The rubble he saw before him was more than just the detritus of Yellowknife dump it
was the rubble of his future. Wifeless. Homeless. Hopeless. (Pg.29). Norman has such a hard
time adjusting to a new location and not being able find something he is good at that he is left
in tears. Moreover, this quote also mentions that Norman worries about being wifeless. On his
journey to find his passion, a loved one, Norman s wife, is not supportive of him, much like how
Alice s sister Jenny doesn t accept Alice. Norman s wife even threatens him by saying to him,
Six weeks! Unless I catch you wearing a red plaid flannel shirt, in which case I ll leave you on
the spot. (Pg.24) Last off, being clumsy is another challenge Norman faces. The Prospector s Trail
mentions, Norman s reputation spread and he could no longer get work. (Pg.25) Norman
continuously makes mistakes at work and is very awkward, this challenge prevents Norman from
getting a job and finding what he is good at, because every time Norman does find his passion, he
somehow ruins it. In summary,

Scram Jet Essay
The SCRAMJET, simply abbreviated from Supersonic Combustion Ramjet, is the latest evolution
of the jet engine family. NASA made the news with each test of the X 43A scramjet craft, so I set
about to discover why this type of jet engine should garner so much scientific attention. Turbojet
The most basic jet engine is the turbojet. As soon as the air enters the front of the engine, the blades
of the compressor, compresses the air before funneling it into the combustion chamber. During the
compression, not only is the density of the air increased by compressing it in a confined chamber,
but the temperature of the air also increases as the air molecules of squeezed closer together. The
resulting air that emerges into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turboprop The turboprop (turbo propeller) engine combines the simple propeller engine with that
of the turbojet. In this case, in addition to driving the compressor, the turbine also drives a
propeller. The propeller provides thrust like a normal propeller (the wedge shape of the blades
pushes the air back), in addition to the thrust produced by the turbojet part of the engine. Ramjet
The ramjet engine is a much simpler construction than either the propeller or turbojet engine.
Unlike these the other engines that require moving parts (propeller, compressor, turbine, shaft, etc),
the ramjet consists basically of a tube that scoops the air into the combustion chamber where it is
mixed with fuel and ignited, and exhausts the hot gasses through the necked down exhaust nozzle.
Because of the high speeds of operation, instead of compressing the air, the chamber of the ramjet
actually expands and thereby slows the air to subsonic speeds for the combustion process. The force
of the incoming air forces the combustion to be kept behind the inlet. Because of this fact, the
engine cannot be operated at subsonic velocities (Velocities below Mach 1 One time the speed of
sound or roughly 740 mph at standard temperature and pressure). Hence another engine has to
accelerate the plane to the point where the ramjet can function. On the other hand, because of its
simplistic construction, the ramjet engine can

Theme Of A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
It says, ..but the poor fellow is so old that the rain knocked him down, ( Marquez 363). This
phrase is critical to the theme of the story as it provides the readers information on the Angel and
allows them to understand he was frail and week. This also gives the people who found him a
gateway to a larger domain of opportunities to obtain money. In the short story, A Very Old Man
With Enormous Wings. Gabriel Marquez, develops the character of the Angel through the use of
symbols, character, and plot to demonstrate encounters with those who are weak and how the
Angel overcomes adversity through courage and strength. First the author uses symbols to help
describe the Angel and portray how weak the angel actually is. The Angel s wings symbolize
strength and power. While the Angel is in the cage his wings are beat up and he is weak, but over
time his wings begin to heal and he becomes more powerful. It says, ... and at the beginning of
December some large, stiff feathers began to grow on his wings, (367). This line demonstrates the
power the Angel is obtaining and soon after he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Angel is spending the majority of the story with the chickens in the chicken coop. He has no
room to move or stretch. This signifies how Pelayo and his wife doesnt have a second thought on
the comfort or for the feelings of the Angel. The Angel is found laying in the mud at the begining
with dilapidated wings. It says, He spent his time trying to get comfortable in his borrowed nest,
befuddled by the hellish heat of the oil lamps and sacramental candles that had been placed along
the wire, (365). The author uses all of this to help the reader understand how low the Angel is
mentally and how hard it s going to be to overcome the adversity the Angel is facing, rather than
letting the conditions of his surrounding overcome

It s time to experience high speed and frustration free internet browsing and home networking.
The Belkin N750 (F9K1103) DB Gigabit Wireless N+ router is a well rounded and feature packed
home network upgrade. Slow downloads, dropped connections and lagging game play are all a
thing of the past with the N750 from Belkin.
Wi fi speeds are drastically improved over older routers by leveraging dual band technology with
the N750. The wireless signal connects at both the 2.5 GHz and 5.0 GHz band and uses the
wireless N standard. This allows this router to reach wireless download speeds of up to 900 Mbps
combined. All of your wifi enabled devices will have no problem staying connected with this

This traffic shaping tech prioritizes gaming and video streaming to smooth out connection speeds
for a better overall experience. This is done by allocating and limiting portions of the bandwidth
based on the type of data being transferred. If someone gets on one computer and starts a large
download, it will not affect someone watching a movie on a different computer.
Gigabit ethernet connections for both the WAN and LAN ensure the fastest file transfer speeds
available. This prevents any bottlenecks between the router and modem to take full advantage of
your high speed internet connection. Additionally, file sharing between up to 4 ethernet connected
home computers will be lightning fast.
Belkin has included it s MultiBeam antenna technology that minimizes signal dead spots. Walls and
obstructions can cause signal loss, and this feature corrects for that as much as possible.
Additionally, the Self Healing feature will detect connection and network issues automatically a

Two USB 2.0 ports allow this router to be easily connected to a network enabled printer or shared

The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only
two pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly
and Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the
exotic female form through abstract sculpturespecifically, in the round, free standing sculptures.
Both Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be
interpreted as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are
fairly abstract. One sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be
interpreted as the exact opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being
inspired by the exotic and romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a
very abstract form with many different parts and pieces. There are coneshapes wrapped in thin
waved sheets of blown glass. It appears as though Chihuly uses cane working in his piece as
there are stripes of color throughout each layer. It measures approximately 2.5 feet by 2 feet by 2
feet and is made of twenty different sections of sculpted glass that must be disassembled and
reassembled every time it is moved. The outer wraps, like shells, gently wrap the glass shapes in
their folds. The interior sculptures take on the shapes of cones, trumpets and petals and are nestled

The Grunge Band In The 90 s
Robert Waldo Emerson once said, The biggest challenge in life is to be yourself in a world that is
trying to make you like everyone else (Emerson). This quote accurately depicts the intention of
creating music for others. In the 90s, the grunge and rap communities would express annoyance
towards how society functioned during this chaotic decade. The United Stateswas undergoing an
economic boom which affected the music world. In terms of political change, the government and
society had disagreements over the scandals and controversial issues being discussed throughout
communities around the country. The 1990s revolutionized the grunge and rap music genre and its
society during that time by creating a sense of rebellion, self expression, a... Show more content on

Its mixture of punk and heavy metal truly displayed their sense of frustration, anger, depression
and drug addiction ( Grunge Music ). However, as Shannen Doherty said The music felt real and
honest and true, and they captured what youth was going at that time ( Nirvana in the Nineties
). Based on this statement, regardless of their messages, this anger infused band truly believed
that citizens should be fully aware of the toxic problems that were going on in society. Examples
of societal issues included several crimes such as assault, prostitution, and robbery that were
committed under the influence of drugs (USA, DEA 91). Drugs, specifically heroin, were a
major issue at the time. Heroin was previously smuggled into the United States from Asia, but it
had a new source during the 90s South America. The percentage of Southeast Asian heroin from
the DEA s Heroin Signature Program rose from 9 percent in 1977 to 58 percent in 1991 (USA,
DEA 95). Because of this increase in heroin, it became more common to find in the United
States. Even Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, had a heroin addiction. When he
committed suicide in 1994, it was shown that he had heroin in his bloodstream. Several other
grunge artists at the time were involved with drugs such as Alice in Chains, Sublime, and Hole
(Rosier). Because of this, parents began to hate the type of music teenagers were being absorbed
in during this time. For example, in the introduction of Grunge: Music and Memory Catherine
Strong recalls her experience of grunge and said, The rough metal boys and the soft, ballad
loving girls all got Nirvana, and agreed that it was good, and our parents hated it, (Strong 1).
Teenagers felt very isolated at this time, but became united through grunge. Teens felt like they

Judge Gray s Argumentative Essay
To support his claims, Judge Gray cites two court cases: Gains v. Gains (1820) and Leaycraft v.
Simmons (1854). The first case states that testator intention was to destroy the will, but was
prevented from doing so. However, the testator s intention could not be substituted as revocation,
making the will still valid. The second case involves a testator who wanted to alter his will to
grant more gifts to the benefactor. But, the testator s son refused to give back the will for

These cases provide convincing proof for the dissent judge s arguments that since the will was not

According to the data provided by the European Central Bank, since 2011, Swedish Krona has
experienced fluctuations and it is not so stable until the beginning of 2013. Starting from this
date we see a clear trend of Swedish Krona depreciation which indicates a decrease of purchasing
power of the currency. If Swedish Krona continues to depreciate it could be difficult for GIOEL to
compete in the Swedish market with local producers that have lower prices and the economic
exposure also could be high.

The Raven Edgar Allan Poe Analysis
The poem The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe can be interpreted in many different ways. In my
opinion, the poem tells of a woman that was very important in his life. The raven in the poem is his
representation of the constant reminder that his lost loved one named Lenore is gone. There is a lot
of evidence that supports this claim throughout the poem that Poe uses. The narrator in The Ravenis
grieving the death of a woman named Lenore. However, in the poem, we do not know who Lenore
is to him but we can guess that she had an impact on his life such as that of a mother or girl that
he had deep feelings for. The tone of the poem suggests that he is very depressed that she is gone
and is mourning her death still. At first, when the narrator hears... Show more content on

He needs to let go of the death of her but just like the raven, it is lingering around him causing
him more sorrow. Nevertheless, the bird hangs around him just like his depression about his
loss relating the raven to the death of Lenore, or death in general. When the narrator keeps
hearing the raven say, Nevermore he thinks maybe that this is the only word that the bird
knows. Then as he sits and the raven remains he thinks more and speaks, Other friends have
flown before On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before. In this quote, the
narrator is referring to his hopes that maybe one day Lenore will return, but those thoughts have
left him which is causing him to feel so lonely and sad about her death. When the narrator
realizes that the raven is not leaving, he then decides to try and figure out what exactly is the
meaning of its appearance and it only speaking the word nevermore. He concludes that maybe the
bird came from an angry owner making the bird sad like him and causing it to repeat that word.
The way the narrator describes the bird in the next lines of the poem point toward the true meaning
of it, he uses terms such as, grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous... (Poe, Line 71). It is at
this moment when the narrator s mood darkens even more and he connects the raven fully to
Lenore. The way the bird is looking at him makes him think about the word nevermore in a

Perception And Perception Of Perception Essay
Perception serves more than one purpose to the human experience. Wikipedia defines Perception as
the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and
understand the environment. This definition unfortunately describes only one of the services
perception provides. I would like to offer instead the definition Perceptionis a collection of data
filters, some natural but most created by education and experience, which serve to shape and
enforce limits on sensory and intellectual data that is considered to provide the individual a world
view in which to operate within. Similar definitions yes, but the differences are critical.
In the Wikipedia definition, perception is nothing more than an interpreter of sensory information.
It implies that all sensory information is considered, and considered equally. Additionally it implies
that intellectual data such as words, symbols, and events are not subject to perceptional filters.
These critical omissions remove from view that perception is subjective and subordinate to the
human intellect, a key concept in the road to higher enlightenment which I will discuss in future
posts.
Perception provides to the human experience with:
A world view to determine what sensory and intellectual data to consider and what to discard based
upon (representative, not all inclusive):
Personal Impact
Personal Accountability
Personal Interest
Personal Relevance
Ability to effect

Analysis Of The Film Peppermint Candy
In Sopyonje, the narrative structure is linear, which the cause leads to the effect. Peppermint Candy
narrators the personal narrative of Youngho by a series of episodic event. The episodic events are a
chain of events that are linked through repetition of motifs, which is the scene of railway. The
episodic events that follow are in reserves chronological order that highlights the personal narrative
of Youngho and the national history. These episodic events are within a twenty year time frame;
hence the film starts with the Outdoor Excursion in the spring 1999 and ends with the panic in the
autumn 1979. The film Peppermint Candy began with the Outdoor Excursion in the spring 1999. In

How Junk Food Can End Obesity
In David Freedman s article, How Junk Food Can End Obesity (2013), he begins by discussing
his endeavors to search for wholesome food. He continues to come across food items that claim
to be healthy and void of processed junk, but all he finds are items high in calories or the expense
is too much for an average American. He argues that wholesome foods are actually just as bad, if
not even worse, than junk foodand that the Big Food industry has the technology available to make
food healthier, but still retain its appeal. Freedman mentions continuously throughout his article that
Americans who are most at risk of becoming obese are those who cannot afford healthy foods,
completely defeating the purpose of the wholefoods movement. He... Show more content on

The solution, in his view, is to replace Big Food s engineered, edible evil through public
education and regulation with fresh, unprocessed, local, seasonal, real food. (Freedman). Pollan
has increased spite for nutritionism, which is the idea behind packing healthier ingredients into
processed foods which is what Freedman is advocating for. Pollan s view is much the same as
some scientists, food activists, nutritionists, and celebrity chefs. He has had such an influence
that the Silicon Valley caters to the wholefoods movement and the progression to familiarizing
the masses with simpler eating habits (Freedman). However, being an area full of technological
endeavors, the Silicon Valley sees technology as the culprit as well. The New York Times
Magazine s food writer, Mark Bittman also shares views with Pollan. In fact, Bittman has even
written a cookbook on how to eat better. While most are more wholesome there are still few
recipes that are high in fat. One of his recipes consists of corn being sautГ©ed in bacon fat and then
topped with bacon (Freedman).
Freedman argues that technology would help revolutionize the American diet. He supports this with
his experiences to different restaurants and how good the food was, how much it cost him, and
then whether or not the food itself is actually good for the body. His experiences allows the reader
to connect with Freedman, by showing that he also struggles with the never ending fight to eat

How Does Hector Criticize The Greek Honor System
Homer s Critique on the Greek Honor System in The Iliad The Iliad, a great epic poem written by
Homer, illustrates the honor system valued deeply by the Greeks and Trojans. Though Homer uses
Hector as a voice piece for the honor system, he presents Hector and other characters as heroes that
conflict with the code itself. Through Hector s conversation with Paris, we identify the three main
components that codes the honor system. In other great epic poems, great heroes appear to possess
and suffice the components. Yet, Homer chooses to do the exact opposite. In The Iliad, the heroes ,
such as, Paris, Diomedes, and Hector himself, conflict with the codes. Homer criticizes the Greek
honor system by contradicting the system through these conflicted heroes.
Through Hector, Homer points out the transfer of glory between enemies through battle as one of
the main components in the honor system. Hector expresses this particular concept through his
conversation with Paris. In book 3, when Paris avoids Menelaus, Hector forces him back into
battle by saying, Can t you just hear it, the long haired Greeks chuckling and saying that our
champion wins for good looks but comes up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole conversation in book 3 between Paris and Hector is about fighting Menelaus. Hector
insists that Paris fight Menelaus head on by shaming him: No, don t stand up to Menelaus: you
might find out what kind of a man it is whose wife you re sleeping with (3. 57). From Hector s
use of verbal irony, we can see he expects and believes that only through fighting a final heroic
battle head on will bring honor; thus, it must be obeyed. The main components of the Honor
system that Hector values greatly are the titles, war prizes, and heroic battles. Homer explicitly
maneuvers Hector as a voice piece to suggest the concept of the honor system that can be seen
applied to the battles between the Trojans and the

Heart Of Darkness Kurtz Essay
Joseph Conrad in his book, Heart of Darkness, retells what he experienced in the Congo from the
point of view of his main character, Marlow. Conrad uses many characters to express Freudian
Psychoanalysis, and through each of these characters, Conrad depicts something about European
culture. One of the most prevalent characters that represents this is Kurtz. Kurtz is the most
imperialistic character in the entire book. Conrad, by using Id, Ego, and Superego, shows how
complete lack of society can cause people to devolve as shown by the character of Kurtz and the
difficulties of Conrad s life are also shown through characters and by Marlow who is a
representation of Conrad. Sigmund Freud theorized that the unconscious mind has a great influence

On the pamphlet Marlow discovers a post scriptum that has Exterminate all the brutes scratched
onto the bottom of it (Conrad 45). This foreshadows a change in Kurtz since he was the person
who wrote the pamphlet. Since this does happen to Kurtz, it shows in a similar fashion to
William Golding that humans will innately devolve back to savages. In fact, Conrad takes this a
step farther by showing that Kurtz had completely lost all of his morals. There was nothing
either above or below him this shows that Kurtz had completely gotten rid of all of his morals
(Conrad 60). Unlike Golding who still had characters that had morals or wanted to keep an
image of themselves up. Following Marlow s arrival at Kurtz s camp and taking him to the boat,
Kurtz crawls away from the ship to try and return to the natives. This has importance for Kurtz in
both a physical and societal way the former being the fact that it shows Kurtz is basically an
animal since he is crawling. The more important way is the societal way because it shows the
juxtaposition between Kurtz s views on the pamphlet and what is currently happening. In the
pamphlet, Kurtz says that we approach them with the might as of a deity which shows that before

Essay on Juvenile and Adult Courts
Juvenile and Adult Courts: A Comparative Analysis

Introduction The Juvenile and Adult Courts: A Comparative Analysis paper will compare juvenile
courts with adult courts. This paper will present an overview of the juvenile justice system, a
point by point comparison between juvenile and adult courts. The adjudication process by which a
juvenile is transferred to the adult court system. This paper will also discuss the implications of
the following for youthful offenders: The trend of increasing the use of waivers, and the trend of
remanding juveniles to adult court for processing. The last topic addressed in this paper will be the

If a plea agreement is not reached, the case may go to an Adjudication Hearing (also called Fact
finding. All parties to the case, including the prosecution witnesses and defense witnesses, will be
subpoenaed (summoned) to testify before a Judge. Witnesses may be excluded from the courtroom
until they are finished testifying (Clallam County, 2011). The argument for this rule is to ensure
that a witness is not influenced by the testimony of another witness. If you are a victim, you have
the right to be present throughout the hearing. Since there are no jury trials in juvenile court, the
Judge will determine whether or not the juvenile is innocent or guilty of committing a delinquent
act after hearing the facts of the case. At the Adjudication Hearing, the prosecution and the defense
may make opening statements to the Judge to explain the case. The Juvenile Prosecutor then
presents the case against the juvenile respondent. It is the responsibility of the State to prove
beyond a reasonable doubt that a delinquent act was committed and the juvenile respondent is
guilty of committing the act (Clallam County, 2012). To meet this burden of proof, the Juvenile
Prosecutor presents evidence and calls witnesses to testify. Witnesses are required to testify under
oath and may be cross examined by the juvenile s defense attorney.
After the prosecutor presents the case against the juvenile respondent, the defense

How Does Friesen Use Magic In The Tempest
In opposition to Gibson, Ryan Friesen believes that Shakespeare was aware of magic in his
culture, but that he used it more as a plot device rather than as a manifestation of his own beliefs
in the supernatural. Friesen explains that while witchcraft and diabolic magic were popular among
audiences, universal themes were more important. In relation to both Doctor Faustus and
Macbeth, he says sin and a hunger for power are themes that are contradicted if the tragic
protagonist s fate is blamed more on his occult prowess than on his decisions to deceive, exploit,
and murder his cohorts, (122). This helps to show how Shakespeare s writing expertize was
illustrated even better with his delicate use of the supernatural. Other playwrights of early... Show

As far as scholars can tell, all of the supernatural in this play was made up entirely by
Shakespeare, disregarding the chance that he was inspired by a play that was never found
(Gibson 139). In the eyes of Friesen, however, The Tempest was more concerned with the
aesthetic and thematic use of magic rather than using it as a depiction of a particular
supernatural being. Friesen says, in the use of magic as a thematic tool, a reflection of ways in
which knowledge and power are gained and governance sought on a middle ground between
theory and experience, (Friesen 190). As Prospero s magic is not particularly based off one of
Shakespeare s magic toolbox materials, Gurr claims that The Tempest s highly spectacled use of
staging operates as a metaphor for Shakespeare s own art (191). In fact, this play is the only one
that actually uses stage spectacle and stage business as much as it does (191). This stage
business included a quaint device for Ariel to use to make the banquet vanish, in which the
banquet would have needed to be fastened to a reversible top table (192). Henslowe s list also
included a bit about the exotic costumes the goddesses would be wearing (200). And Gurr
explained that there was likely a way to create a wet look for the mariners after the shipwreck
(184). The Tempest is such an exception to the common devices Shakespeare used, in which his
focus was a little less about the use of magic thematically, and maybe a little more about spiting his
contemporaries and other influential thinkers of the

However, there may be errors in measurements due to this type of sampling method. For instance,
the estimation may be subjective and that clipping other unnecessary things such as the standing
dead or floral structure may affect the results of the wet and dry weight. Factors that may
influence the accuracies of the estimates of wet and dry biomass weights may also include
human error. If the wet weight was not dried for the dry weight estimate, then the value retrieved
would be incorrect with a high error value. In this study, clipping was used to of a defined area

considerations that might be drawn from the results from a range management perspective would
be to acknowledge the invasive species and abundancy. In terms of forage resources and
ecological health of these pastures is not so great with the cheatgrass increasing in abundancy
when it is an invasive species. In terms of any improvements, I believe the experimental design

Rule of law in India
Rule of law in India When the rule of law disappears, we are ruled by the whims of men Tiffany
Madison Introduction What does rule of law mean? In laymen terms, law should rule, people
should obey the law. The earliest form of this type of governance could be traced back to 1750
BC. The Hammurabi code, popularly known as an eye for an eye , off course it was the most
primitive form of law which was used to obtain justice. In a democratic nation especially India, our
constitution is the supreme law. Although the term rule of law is not used in our constitution
anywhere, it is accepted that India is a country which is governed by rule of law. However it finds
its place in the constitution as an underlying principle1 and hence this... Show more content on

This allows the judiciary to be incorruptible, which in my opinion is important for judiciary to
uphold the laws. The remedy to approach the Supreme Court in case of infringement of
fundamental right under article 32, itself is a fundamental right. The judiciary over the years
has strengthened this powers by 1) by declaring judicial review as a basic feature of the
constitution and making it non amendable by the parliament.2) Introducing the concept of
Public interest litigation which enables the masses to reach justice. 3) It also has the power to
look into the constitutional amendments. The above mentioned aspects of the judiciary are
effective in upholding the law. Independent judiciary armed with such powers is important for
sustaining rule of law. In reality, there are certain aspects of our judiciary which interferes with
sustainability of rule of law. The judiciary is a separate body and their accountability is limited,
the judges might start to act above the law and there are not many effective checks on the
judiciary. The idea of establishing National Judicial Council to check the activities of the
judiciary has been discussed for a long time but no progress has been made yet.4 Apart from the
above loopholes, the biggest problem of the Indian courts I feel is the delay in the judgments. Many
cases go on for decades, the popular example being the royal family case in Bengal which has been
going for 175 years now.5 The delay of

Who Is Dre Parker In Karate Kid
Karate kid Exam By Ji Maciejewski Jayden Smith plays the character, Dre Parker, a 12 year old boy
in the film Karate Kid (2010), directed by Harold zwartz. I chose to analysis Dre Parker for
several reasons. Instead of taking the easy way out he choose to take steps to resolve the
situation, his actions were very powerful. His relationships with people show us what type of
boy Dre is like. I also like the style of Dre, a stereotypical teenager, how he dresses, and the way
he acts. I will also be discussing Dre through SWAT, symbolic, written, audio and technical codes.

Throughout the movie, Dre shows his characteristics by not only what he says, but also how he
act. Dre is a stereotypical teenager, he thinks he is the best, almost unbeatable. You can see this
by his attitude towards new things, for example when he challenges the old people to a game of
ping pong and thinks he can beat them. The director has used a great example of symbolic
codes, because the way Dre dresses help us construct his attitude, that personality helped me get a
message of Dre attitude towards new things. During the first fight between Dre and Chang the
director has used great examples of how committed Dre is, especially protecting Mei Ying. The
use of camera angles have showed Dre s facial expression when he is getting hit hard by Chang,
showing us that that no matter how hurt Dre is he will never let down. Dre also shows the
audience his determination and frustration throughout the movie, by the camera use which captures
emotions on his face, the camera is often at eye level, for example when he is continually hanging

Humanities Reflection
Nice discussion post this week! We both agree with the articles by Kristof and Kaleem and I
enjoyed as well. The quote you have mentioned also makes a lot of sense to me too and got me
thinking. I struggled with the big questions of life and still am, but I have been able to have a
much better appreciation for life and have had a better time at finding that true purpose. Having
a lot of information thrown at us constantly though can be challenging, I do not blame you! I
agree with too that the humanities can help people to stay grounded in an ever changing
informational world; I know it has for me. This is why I agree with the articles because the
humanities should be taught and explored in the academic setting. Living in a digital world
definitely has pros (communication, medical advances, etc.) and cons, such as social media at
times like you have mentioned. It has done and will do so much for us, but it also can be too
much at times. Luckily my parents raised me to appreciate life and what I have and I never was
fixated on my phone or electronics . I think that is why I became an artist myself. I needed a way
to express my self and spend my time. Art was the answer for me. It allowed me to find myself
and express myself in a way an electronic could not for me. After reading the article Extraordinary
Outsiders: The Makers Who Don t Know They re Artists this week I could really relate because
art is one of my passions and when I was in high school I volunteered with the

The City Of Seoul, Korea
Seoul, Korea is a significant globally influential city that has both a vast and profound history. The
city s establishment dates back over 600 years ago. From the depths of its physical and cultural
development to its present prominence in the financial world, the city is an excellent example in
defining and understanding the cities of today. The manners in which the city s infrastructures and
population interact with one another can also be explained through the lenses of an urban
sociological perspective to help further the understand of many different aspects that define
metropolitan life. From the various turmoil to the dramatic increase in development of the city life
establishment, the city of Seoulsets itself apart from many as an interesting city.
In its earlier days, Seoul was known as Han Yang. The city dates back to the year 1394, where
the Chosun/Joseson Dynasty recognized it as the new capital (Ko, 2005). Shortly after the city
was established, the Fortress Wall of Seoul was constructed, which was a circular wall made
from various stones, sticks and other materials that enclosed the capital. The wall was assembled
not only to define the boundaries of the new land, but also for security and operational purposes
(UNESCO). The purpose of the gate was also a way for the dynasty to signify and set itself apart
as a separate entity from the rest of the land. By 1405, the city was officially acknowledged as the
capital location the establishment of Han Yang

What Was The Civil Rights Movement In The 1960 s
The 1960 s in the United States of America
The 1960s was a tumultuous time in politics, music, and pop culture. Sometimes it was called the
decade of discontent because there were riots and the Vietnam War was going on during this period.
The 60s were also an important time for the civil rights movement. Nicknamed the Rights
Revolution , many acts were passed in congress because of marches, riots, sit ins, and more. When
young Americans began to disagree with the older generation, their dissatisfaction came out through
the music they made. They also changed their culture by having longer hair, dressing differently,
and trying to stand out and speak their beliefs.

So many different iconic songs and artists came from this era, including Bob Dylan, Aretha
Franklin, the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and so many more (Pitchfork). Some

the music industry in the 50s, it thrived in the 60s. There also started to be many different
subgenres of rock including surf rock (The Beach Boys), hard rock (The Rolling Stones), folk
rock/protest music (Simon and Garfunkel), and many others. Because of all of these popular
artists and groups, music festivals boomed. People went to all different kinds of festivals to see
their favorite artists (Pearson). The biggest song from the decade was a rock indebted dance
track called The Twist by Chubby Checker according to Billboard (The Top 20 Billboard Hot 100

music became their voice for a cultural revolution. During this time, the Beatles music started

Is Multitasking A Learning By Disrupting The Encoding Of...
In this experiment, Sana, Weston, and Cepeda grounded their research questions in previously
conducted research on the topics of divided attention and dual task interference. It had been
demonstrated in these earlier studies that multitasking obstructs learning by disrupting the encoding
of new material. It was theorized that these errors in information processing inevitably occur
because our cognitive resources are finite and easily overtaxed by multiple, simultaneous tasks.
Besides resulting in poorer encoding of information into one s long term memory, it was also noted
that comprehension and course performance significantly decline among multitaskers. What more,
there was evidence that the attention of other, non multitasking students may be accosted by the
mere proximity of a multitasking individual. Bearing all of this in mind, the researchers of the
current study formulated two hypotheses. The first hypothesis was that multitasking computer
users would score lower on measures of comprehension than non multitasking, computer users. The
second hypothesis was that participants who were within view of multitaskers would score lower
on measures of comprehension than their peers who did not have computer multitaskers within
their line of sight. The conceptual independent variable for study one was multitasking while the
dependent variable was comprehension. Likewise, the conceptual independent variable for study
two was the visibility of multitasking while the dependent

Biblical Allusions In The Poisonwood Bible
In the Poisonwood Bible, Nathan s and all of his daughter s names are a reference to characters
found in the Bible. Throughout the book, Kingsolver uses biblical allusions in the text that ties in
with the characters and events that take place. In the Bible, Rachel is the younger daughter of
Laban s. Just like The Poisonwood BibleRachel, biblical Rachel is referred to as being lovely in
form, and beautiful. (NIV) Gen. 29:17 A man named Jacob was astounded by her beauty and fell in
love with her, deciding to work seven years of labor so he could eventually marry her. However, on
his wedding night he was tricked in to marrying Rachel s older sister, Leah. For a second time,
Jacob decided to work another seven years and was finally able to

The Genre of Mystery in The Signalman and the Monkeys Paw...
How do dickens and jacobs use the genre of mystery in the signalman and the monkeys paw?
To answer the question, I believe that the authors of The Signalman and The Monkey s Paw use
the genres of mystery very well. I am going to explain why I think that in the following essay.
The first idea that I am going to look at is the role of fate. We see this take place in both stories,
but in slightly different ways. In
The Monkey s Paw, we see fate take on a large role, as the story is about a monkey s paw that has
been invested with a lot of evil power because an old fakir wanted to teach people not to interfere
with fate and its course.
In The Signalman however, the role of fate is not as large as the role in The Monkey s ... Show more

Furthermore, I will look at the suggestion of spectre. In The Monkeys
Paw, the paw had been invested with so much power because it had a spell put on it by an old
fakir , as this holy man wanted to get a message across to people that they were not to interfere
with fate and its course.
The Signalman is a story about a man who sees a figure, or a spectre several times, and after the
sightings, the next day somebody dies.
The suggestion of spectre plays quite a big role in this story, and gives a very effective result. The
left arm is across the face, and the right arm is waved, violently waved.
Moreover, the setting of The Monkey s Paw adds to the way Jacobs used the genre of mystery.
Without, the night was cold and wet . You could imagine a typical mystery scene, with rain, claps
of thunder etc a effective setting. The atmosphere inside the house was equally successful in
grabbing my attention, the fire was burning and the blinds were drawn, and this gives me the idea
of being cosy inside when the weather outside is terrible and miserable an appealing setting. The
story is mostly set at night, which adds to the eeriness.
Equally, Dickens grabs the reader s attention with a disturbing atmosphere. The steep cutting nearly
over his head gives me the idea of claustrophobia.
The thought of a foreshortened and shadowed figure gives me the sense of a figure that is
possessed and not as it seems. Most

Comparing The Methods Using Products And Services
M2: Compare the methods used to distribute products and services.
For M2, I will compare the different distribution channel for two different product which is food
and clothing. I will examine how retailer distribute food and clothing and what s required to ensure
the product is at good condition before it reach to customers.
Food
The distribution of food is different from clothing as suppliers will need to bear in mind how to
appropriately handle food products, example, and health inspection in storage room to avoid
transmissible disease. The food distribution is short to ensure that the food is fresh and will not go
out of date. This is why many food retailer like Tescomainly source their product in UK than
overseas. Food like fruits are perishable therefore retailers need to take in consideration to how
they will handle the product, transport they are going to use, preservation of product and how it s
going to be packaged before they sell it to customers. Perishable food like fresh strawberries or
frozen food are both time and temperature sensitive. This is why business like Tesco usually
temperature in their storage room is at optimum temperature range to maintain quality and
freshness of the food like fresh strawberries.
On the other hand, Tesco also packaged their food like fresh strawberries in a plastic container to
ensure that it s not going to smash. This also enables customers to purchase the product easier as
the fruit is already packaged for them.

The Rewarding Process of Glassblowing
Glassblowing The process of glassblowing can be a long but rewarding process. Many different
things can be made ranging from a simple Christmas ornament, to a work of art. Glassblowers use
many different techniques and tools to aid them in their jobs. Glassblowing is not an easy job, it
requires knowledge in what you re doing and the skill to not harm yourself or others.
Glass has a variety of unique properties. Glass is hard, very brittle, a good insulator, and does
not react to other chemicals easily. In addition to this, glass is considered an amorphous solid.
This means that the molecular structure of glass is mostly random. This is because in the process
of making glass, glass is cooled so quickly that it does not have time to form or create a structure
at the molecular level. This process is known as quenching. There are a variety of tools and
equipment used in the glassblowing process. Three of which consist of three very large furnaces.
The first furnace melts the glass and keeps the glass hot. The melted glass inside the first
furnace is referred to as batch. The furnace keeps the batch at over two thousand one hundred
degrees Fahrenheit. The glassblower then takes a long pipe, about four feet long, and places it
inside the furnace. In addition, the glass pipe is heated to a really hot temperature so that the
glass will adhere to the metal rod. If the rod is not heated, the glass will not stick to the rod. The
pipe used to collect the molten glass is called

Essay on The Downfall of China
The Downfall of China
China is the perfect example of what happens when one leader is given to much
power. The leaders of China were each very afraid of social reform, and the
consequences that outside influence may have on their customs. As a means of initiating
reform, they shut the entire Western world out almost completely. At the time it was a
move that served China well but in the long run it was the downfall of China. While
blindfolded, the Chinese were unable to see the great advancements of the Western
world. With an egocentric government, the Chinese citizens were neglected outside of the
palace walls and the country fell to shambles. Instead of stimulating economic growth the

of China had no idea what was happening. When the doors had been shut from the
outside world Europe was not as highly advanced as China. Europeans lived in crowded
cities with rodents and foul odors. The Chinese for a period of time lived with the fresh
scent of flowers and tea. As China internally decayed the citizens had nothing to compare
it to for they had always been ahead of Europe in almost everything for so many
centuries.
After the thirteenth century Western civilization flourished. In Western Europe the
governments encouraged industrial growth and individual commerce as a means of
keeping ahead of the competition. With each distinct country competing with each other a
variety of individual trades were created eventually sparking the Industrial Revolution.
As a result of heavily trading around the world, each country became very wealthy, and
as such their internal economies grew. In Great Britain without government suppression
on individual companies they were able to build the most powerful navy in the world, and
colonize in many different countries. As China was suffering from economic rot, they
paid no attention to the world around them. They did not realize that the rest of the world
was waiting to conquer China and divide the winnings. When Chinese officials refused to
continue trading with the British they initiated the Opium Wars. The final result of the
Opium War was

Essay on The Corrupt Bargain
When Andrew Jackson was denied presidency in 1824 due to the corrupt bargain between John
Quincy Adams and Henry Clay, he was furious at the lack of democracy in the election system.
He became determined to institute a new age of genuine democracy in America where the voice
of the people wouldim being monarchal, Andrew Jackson was a very democratic president
evidenced by his drive to give the people more representation and also his attempted transfer of
power from the few to the many. To begin, Andrew Jackson was determined to get the people more
representation in all branches of government. This was most likely because of the corrupt bargain
that had so angered him due to the lack of democracyin the presidential election.... Show more

These statistics show Jefferson s influence on many of the states in America which granted their
people direct representation by allowing them to choose their own electoral candidates. Moreover,
Andrew Jackson greatly facilitated the transfer of power from the few to the many in the US. In
Jackson s Bank Veto Message to Congress in July of 1832, he stated that the rich were
monopolizing the country s domestic exchange by bending the acts of government to their selfish
purposes. (Document 4). Jackson argued that with so much money and power, the corrupt rich were
influencing the government to allow them domination over the many people who could not match
their authority. The few, selfish rich citizens felt no duty or responsibility to their country so they
committed great evils to promote their own status. For this reason, Jackson wanted the Bank of the
United States vetoed so that this corruption could be ended at once and the rich would not be
able to use the Bank for their egotistic intents. The BUS had been standing since Alexander
Hamilton proposed it in the early 1800s, so it was outlandish for Jackson to propose its veto, but
he was truly doing it for the people. The following day after Jackson s message, Daniel Webster
issued a reply to it. In his reply, Webster claimed that Jackson was controlling the poor and arousing
them against the rich (Document 5). While this does seem like an immoral action for one to

Conflict Between Scotland And England
Identity is what forms the core of humanity as it is claimed and sustained in reciprocal role
relationships (Thoits, 175). People are constantly defining themselves to fit into a group, ethnicity,
or regional identity. It is crucial because humans need the community and culture as the greater the
number of identities held, the stronger one s sense of meaningful, guided existence (Thoits, 175).
Hence, by having a regional identity and a larger sense of unity as an imagined community gives
a sense of security to humans as stated that people s awareness of being part of the global space of
flows seems to have generated a search for new points of orientation, efforts to strengthen old
boundaries and to create new ones, often based on identities of resistance (Paasi, 475). Humans are
partially threatened by globalization as they struggle to maintain identities of what they had in the
past; this is demonstrated not just in individuals, but also amongst countries, as with Brexit. In the
UK, Scotlandhas had many struggles to sustain their own heritage and regional identity as a
separate entity from England. From the basic necessities, like currency, the conflict between
Scotland and England can be seen; as the sterling pound in England is different from the sterling
pound in Scotland. From the banknotes, it portrays the friction between Scotland and England and
amplifies the regional identities of the two areas. The sterling pound is currency circulated around
the UK.

many concert experiences, except watching Canton opera, which is totally different from
Orchestra few times. Therefore, I do not think I really enjoy the concert and get all the ideas
from composers. In the later part of the paper I will try my best to analysis Mysteries of the

summary my feeling about these two pieces. Mysteries of the Macabre is an opera that pretty
different from what I used to expect for an symphony. The way I used to be in touch with symphony
is movie background music, which is always majestic. However, Mysteries of the Macabre shows
me a different face of symphony. At the beginning, the singer walks casually and blows bubble gum
bubble after the conductor walks on stage. This detail implies the character is a rebellious girl, and
the piece coming would be unusual compares to the traditional operas. Then, the conductor
outstretch his hand to take the girl s bubble gum away, showing that the conductor has no idea to
control the character as controlling the rest of the orchestra, which leads to the curiosity of the
interaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

completely different from what I familiar with. I hope the next time attending a concert, I will be

Criticism Of Advertising In Advertising
I have found most product advertising to be ridiculous and somewhat laughable. Those in
advertisement have jobs that require them to sell us products and they walk a fine line to entice us
to buy. Sales are the key to success and growth in any organization but should it be at the consumer
s cost? The claims in the advertisements are what sells the product in the end, but many of them
leave out important information and provide us with hyped and over exaggerated claims.
Advertisingtypically hits a pain spot which pushes people to buy on impulse because they need it
and want a solution to that pain. See, they do their research and know just what to say to make
us feel better, want more, and make our lives much happier. The promises are never ending like
the 30 day money back guarantee that is truly a paradox. After we see these products in
advertisement we assume that we can make good use of them, but how many of these as seen
on TV products do you use regularly? Most products do not measure up to the claims of their
advertisements. Let s take any restaurant or fast food chain s advertising and compare it to what
you actually get once you receive your order. My sandwiches at Subway never looks like what is
shown on the television commercial. Instead of receiving a scrumptious sandwich piled high with
meat and vegetables it is more like having to open the bread to even find meat and vegetables. I
think this is your classic bait and switch tactic. Advertising

Original Sin Psychology
Evolutionary Psychology and Original Sin The Human Dark Side: Evolutionary Psychology and
Original Sin was written by Joseph Lee and M. Theol. This article is an attempt to supply such a
response by focusing on the distinctively Christian doctrine of original sin, which presents itself as
an especially likely candidate for support from evolutionary psychology. The Christian doctrine of
original sin makes more sense as evolutionary psychologists learn more about why people do bad
things. Christian responses to the developing field of evolutionary psychology tend to be defensive,
focusing on the task of showing that Christians have not been presented with any reason to abandon
any central beliefs of the Christian faith. A more positive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Original sin has been defined as the need for redemption by Christ that is universal to all human
beings and acquired through natural generation. Descent of all humans from a single couple
monoecism is not essential to the doctrine; the Catholic magisterium has continued to insist on it
simply in order to explain why all humans need to be saved. The requirement of natural
generation likewise sought only to account for the undeniable fact that the tendency to sin is
present in all of us, even prior to our first moral choices. It does not imply, in Augustinian
fashion, that sexuality is somehow the root of all evil. According to the article we do all sin
because we have all inherited from the very first living things on earth a powerful tendency to
act selfishly, no matter the cost to others. Free will enables us to override this tendency, but only
sporadically and with great effort; we more readily opt for self. This tendency in all of us is
what our tradition calls the stain of original sin. It is not the result of a fall in our prehistory,
since we were never more selfless than we are now. It is present even in infants, who are
undeniably self centered, though guiltless of actual sin. We incur guilt only when we freely choose
to act on this tendency to the detriment of others. Not all self centered acts are sinful, but all sins
are instances of

Nickel And Dimed By Barbara Ehrenreich
There are many families out there who are currently struggling to make ends meet. Regardless of
their hard work and commitment, the economy will not take pity. I wish I could say that it was
not always like this. Unfortunately, no real change has taken place within the past few years. It
may not be as difficult as the time of the Great Depression, but who s to say that we have
recovered from it? My claim is supported by Barbara Ehrenreich, an American author, who
published a novel called Nickel and Dimed which digs deep into the economic situation in the early
90 s. Ehrenreich decided to run an experiment becoming a blue collar worker to see if she can
manage to make a living on low wages. She later blogs of Nickel and Dimed in 2011 to see... Show

The cost for places to live like hotels, motels, or trailer parks may be within reason, but not
enough for a blue collar worker s salary. The difficulty in securing a place to live is not
uncommon, and many have made ways to work around it like sharing apartments. Ehrenreich
details these types of situations in her novel like Tina, another server, and her husband [who]
are paying $60 a night for a room in the Days Inn...[or] Joan... [who] lives in a van parked behind
a shopping center at night and showers in Tina s motel room (pg. 25). Examples taken from
Ehrenreich s novel shows us the struggles that many have had to go through to secure a place to
live. It isn t to say that these people don t work hard, but, unfortunately, this is the best they get
for the work they put in and the pay they receive. Now it becomes difficult, if finding a place to
live during a prosperous age wasn t hard enough, try finding one during the time of recession.
Job losses are very common during this age, and with that comes the difficulty to afford proper
housing. Most end up on the street, and others barely struggle to stay sheltered whether it be in
their car, assuming they still have one or staying in public shelters. Ehrenreich mentions in her
2011 blog that, Housing expert Peter Dreier says that people who ve lost their jobs, or, at least,
their second jobs, cope by doubling or tripling up in overcrowded apartments, or by paying 50 or 60
or even 70 percent of

  • 2. Samsung s Accounting Probe And Its Impact On The... In July of 2015, Toshiba Corporation announced that an independent party had discovered that there were accounting irregularities. Accounting irregularities sounds like a nice way to say, they have uncovered fraud. In addition, Chief Executive Hisao Tanaka s accounting irregularities forced him to resign. At the time of the initial announcement, the overstatement was thought to be around $3.2 billion in charges ( Toshibas Accounting Probe, 2015, para. 1). How can this happen? The why and how can usually be summed up to greed and poor ethics in the leadership and culture inside of these large organizations. However, to help us understand the scale of this scandal, it is important to look at the time line and disclosures as the company... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By doing so, the seller can recognize some gain or loss related to a project in every accounting period in which the project continues to be active. The method works best when it is reasonably possible to estimate the stages of project completion on an ongoing basis or at least to estimate the remaining costs to complete a project. (para.1) Already we start to see that this method in itself is not at fault, but rather it creates an environment where people who have poor ethics can manipulate the system to provide a more favorable outcome. On May 8, Toshiba announced it was expanding its investigation and setting up a third party committee, canceled dividend payments and withdrew its earnings forecast. ( Toshiba s Accounting Probe, 2015, para. 4). Again, to the outside observer who is paying attention this does not sound good. Clearly the problem was well known and widespread throughout the organization. On May 13th, Toshiba announces it is likely to take mark downs in operating profit for three years through March of 2014 ( Toshiba s Accounting Probe , 2015, para. 5). On May 22nd, Toshiba extends the investigation to three more business units (para. 7). This is the first indication that it might be far more widespread for instances of improper accounting. The company reports that it found 12 instances of irregularities, including not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tone Of One Perfect Rose At first glance the poem One Perfect Rose may seem like a poem about love and romance, but further analysis shows the opposite. The first two stanzas of the poem can be misleading, as they lead one to believe that it s a romantic moment to a past memory. However, with the poems sudden change in tone, the third stanza takes on more of a cynical view. You hear the dissatisfaction in the speaker s tone, as she wants more. The title conveys irony, as it shows that the roseis anything but perfect. In a way the poem seems to describe Parkers feelings about life, even though she had a lot going for her she just wasn t satisfied. Because of the shift in tone, the poems entire meaning goes from sweet to a bitter recount. The first opening line of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She wants more than a rose, when she states. Why is it no one ever sent me yet one perfect limousine do you suppose? The word limousine implies that she maybe materialistic. Upon this, as the reader, one has to understand the context in which the poem was written in. It was written in 1937 when the Great Depression occurred. Because Parker faced many financial uncertainties, all she really wanted was to be sure she was financially stable. The phrase one perfect rose is repeated throughout stanza 1 and stanza 2, thus making it a refrain. On the other hand, the mocking repetition of one perfect indicates the underlining attitude of the speaker in the last stanza. Suddenly the phrase one perfect rose becomes disrupted when the speaker desires one perfect limousine. Moreover, the tone suddenly changes when she states, do you suppose? . The question is implied to the reader as the poem takes on more of a conversational tone. The poem suddenly takes on more of a sarcastic tone, as a lot of Dorothy Parkers poem are really known for. They are known for their witty remarks and irony. Line 11 and 12 states, Ah no, it s always just my luck to get one perfect rose. The fact that she states ah no signifies disappointment, but it also becomes more conversational instead of formal. In line 11 the word, just my luck actually means that something unfortunate ... • 4. Endgame Play Essay On April 25th, I spent my Tuesday evening watching the production, Endgame, which is located in the Mason Hall of vertical building at 17 Lexington Avenue. Honestly, I was looking forward to this production because I ve never seen a play at the Baruch s vertical campus theater. I was also curious for the plotline of Endgame because I remember that Eric Krebs mentioned that this play was going to be very difficult to understand as it is meant for adults. After observing Endgame for about 75 minutes, I can undoubtingly conclude that it was one of the most confusing, but brilliant theatrical productions I ve ever watched. Endgame by Samuel Beckett focuses on the life of the two protagonist Hamm and Clov who live with both of Hamm s parents after an apocalyptic disaster. Throughout the play, Hamm continuously orders Clov, who is his servant, to follow routines such as opening the curtains, checking out of the window with a telescope, or moving Hamm s wheelchair to the middle of the room. It was, honestly, very difficult for me to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clov and Hamm would perform the same unfinished routines each day as if there is nothing much left to do as their endings are approaching. It is a way to show the audience, especially the older people, that death is going to occur, but it is still a scary thing to face. Isolation is another main point in the Endgame. The two protagonists have shown that even though there is constant bickering, they both needed each other. They are afraid of being alone, which is a common struggle many people deal with in life. I believe Krebs was correct because this was play that older people can definitely relate to. There was not any particular scene that spoke out to me because the entire play was indeed splendid. For the most part, the meaning behind the story was amazing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lena Coakley s Short Story Mirror Image Life: A Journey of Challenges Pulkit Sahi Ms.Helme ENG3U0 Tuesday, October 7, 2014 As we grow, we face new challenges, which is all part of our journey as we try to find ourselves and what we are best at. Lena Coakley takes the idea of self realization and portrays it through the character Alice, in her story Mirror Image . The author Cathy Jewison brings up the concept of finding what you are good at, through the protagonist Norman, in her story The Prospector s Trail . Although both stories focus on the main idea of facing new challenges while growing and changing, The Prospector s Trail plot is based more on finding your passion rather than finding yourself. Mirror Image consists of Alice, a young teenager who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Alice, who has a hard time adjusting to her new body, Norman has a hard time adjusting to a new place. When Norman is out finding something he is good at, Norman s eyes misted over and his throat constricted, but the cause was neither the rain in his in his eyes nor the stench in his nose. The rubble he saw before him was more than just the detritus of Yellowknife dump it was the rubble of his future. Wifeless. Homeless. Hopeless. (Pg.29). Norman has such a hard time adjusting to a new location and not being able find something he is good at that he is left in tears. Moreover, this quote also mentions that Norman worries about being wifeless. On his journey to find his passion, a loved one, Norman s wife, is not supportive of him, much like how Alice s sister Jenny doesn t accept Alice. Norman s wife even threatens him by saying to him, Six weeks! Unless I catch you wearing a red plaid flannel shirt, in which case I ll leave you on the spot. (Pg.24) Last off, being clumsy is another challenge Norman faces. The Prospector s Trail mentions, Norman s reputation spread and he could no longer get work. (Pg.25) Norman continuously makes mistakes at work and is very awkward, this challenge prevents Norman from getting a job and finding what he is good at, because every time Norman does find his passion, he somehow ruins it. • 6. Scram Jet Essay The SCRAMJET, simply abbreviated from Supersonic Combustion Ramjet, is the latest evolution of the jet engine family. NASA made the news with each test of the X 43A scramjet craft, so I set about to discover why this type of jet engine should garner so much scientific attention. Turbojet The most basic jet engine is the turbojet. As soon as the air enters the front of the engine, the blades of the compressor, compresses the air before funneling it into the combustion chamber. During the compression, not only is the density of the air increased by compressing it in a confined chamber, but the temperature of the air also increases as the air molecules of squeezed closer together. The resulting air that emerges into the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Turboprop The turboprop (turbo propeller) engine combines the simple propeller engine with that of the turbojet. In this case, in addition to driving the compressor, the turbine also drives a propeller. The propeller provides thrust like a normal propeller (the wedge shape of the blades pushes the air back), in addition to the thrust produced by the turbojet part of the engine. Ramjet The ramjet engine is a much simpler construction than either the propeller or turbojet engine. Unlike these the other engines that require moving parts (propeller, compressor, turbine, shaft, etc), the ramjet consists basically of a tube that scoops the air into the combustion chamber where it is mixed with fuel and ignited, and exhausts the hot gasses through the necked down exhaust nozzle. Because of the high speeds of operation, instead of compressing the air, the chamber of the ramjet actually expands and thereby slows the air to subsonic speeds for the combustion process. The force of the incoming air forces the combustion to be kept behind the inlet. Because of this fact, the engine cannot be operated at subsonic velocities (Velocities below Mach 1 One time the speed of sound or roughly 740 mph at standard temperature and pressure). Hence another engine has to accelerate the plane to the point where the ramjet can function. On the other hand, because of its simplistic construction, the ramjet engine can ... • 7. Theme Of A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings It says, ..but the poor fellow is so old that the rain knocked him down, ( Marquez 363). This phrase is critical to the theme of the story as it provides the readers information on the Angel and allows them to understand he was frail and week. This also gives the people who found him a gateway to a larger domain of opportunities to obtain money. In the short story, A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings. Gabriel Marquez, develops the character of the Angel through the use of symbols, character, and plot to demonstrate encounters with those who are weak and how the Angel overcomes adversity through courage and strength. First the author uses symbols to help describe the Angel and portray how weak the angel actually is. The Angel s wings symbolize strength and power. While the Angel is in the cage his wings are beat up and he is weak, but over time his wings begin to heal and he becomes more powerful. It says, ... and at the beginning of December some large, stiff feathers began to grow on his wings, (367). This line demonstrates the power the Angel is obtaining and soon after he... This signifies how Pelayo and his wife doesnt have a second thought on the comfort or for the feelings of the Angel. The Angel is found laying in the mud at the begining with dilapidated wings. It says, He spent his time trying to get comfortable in his borrowed nest, befuddled by the hellish heat of the oil lamps and sacramental candles that had been placed along the wire, (365). The author uses all of this to help the reader understand how low the Angel is mentally and how hard it s going to be to overcome the adversity the Angel is facing, rather than letting the conditions of his surrounding overcome ... • 11. Painting, Violet Persian Set With Red Lip Wraps By Dale... The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic female form through abstract sculpturespecifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and romanticized past. • 12. The Grunge Band In The 90 s Robert Waldo Emerson once said, The biggest challenge in life is to be yourself in a world that is trying to make you like everyone else (Emerson). This quote accurately depicts the intention of creating music for others. In the 90s, the grunge and rap communities would express annoyance towards how society functioned during this chaotic decade. The United Stateswas undergoing an economic boom which affected the music world. In terms of political change, the government and society had disagreements over the scandals and controversial issues being discussed throughout communities around the country. However, as Shannen Doherty said The music felt real and honest and true, and they captured what youth was going at that time ( Nirvana in the Nineties ). Based on this statement, regardless of their messages, this anger infused band truly believed that citizens should be fully aware of the toxic problems that were going on in society. Examples of societal issues included several crimes such as assault, prostitution, and robbery that were committed under the influence of drugs (USA, DEA 91). Drugs, specifically heroin, were a major issue at the time. Heroin was previously smuggled into the United States from Asia, but it had a new source during the 90s South America. The percentage of Southeast Asian heroin from the DEA s Heroin Signature Program rose from 9 percent in 1977 to 58 percent in 1991 (USA, DEA 95). Because of this increase in heroin, it became more common to find in the United States. Even Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, had a heroin addiction. When he committed suicide in 1994, it was shown that he had heroin in his bloodstream. Several other grunge artists at the time were involved with drugs such as Alice in Chains, Sublime, and Hole (Rosier). Because of this, parents began to hate the type of music teenagers were being absorbed in during this time. For example, in the introduction of Grunge: Music and Memory Catherine Strong recalls her experience of grunge and said, The rough metal boys and the soft, ballad loving girls all got Nirvana, and agreed that it was good, and our parents hated it, (Strong 1). However, the testator s intention could not be substituted as revocation, making the will still valid. The second case involves a testator who wanted to alter his will to grant more gifts to the benefactor. But, the testator s son refused to give back the will for alteration. • 15. The Raven Edgar Allan Poe Analysis The poem The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe can be interpreted in many different ways. In my opinion, the poem tells of a woman that was very important in his life. The raven in the poem is his representation of the constant reminder that his lost loved one named Lenore is gone. There is a lot of evidence that supports this claim throughout the poem that Poe uses. The narrator in The Ravenis grieving the death of a woman named Lenore. However, in the poem, we do not know who Lenore is to him but we can guess that she had an impact on his life such as that of a mother or girl that he had deep feelings for. Nevertheless, the bird hangs around him just like his depression about his loss relating the raven to the death of Lenore, or death in general. When the narrator keeps hearing the raven say, Nevermore he thinks maybe that this is the only word that the bird knows. Then as he sits and the raven remains he thinks more and speaks, Other friends have flown before On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before. In this quote, the narrator is referring to his hopes that maybe one day Lenore will return, but those thoughts have left him which is causing him to feel so lonely and sad about her death. When the narrator realizes that the raven is not leaving, he then decides to try and figure out what exactly is the meaning of its appearance and it only speaking the word nevermore. He concludes that maybe the bird came from an angry owner making the bird sad like him and causing it to repeat that word. The way the narrator describes the bird in the next lines of the poem point toward the true meaning of it, he uses terms such as, grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous... (Poe, Line 71). • 16. Perception And Perception Of Perception Essay Perception serves more than one purpose to the human experience. Wikipedia defines Perception as the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. This definition unfortunately describes only one of the services perception provides. I would like to offer instead the definition Perceptionis a collection of data filters, some natural but most created by education and experience, which serve to shape and enforce limits on sensory and intellectual data that is considered to provide the individual a world view in which to operate within. Similar definitions yes, but the differences are critical. In the Wikipedia definition, perception is nothing more than an interpreter of sensory information. It implies that all sensory information is considered, and considered equally. Additionally it implies that intellectual data such as words, symbols, and events are not subject to perceptional filters. These critical omissions remove from view that perception is subjective and subordinate to the human intellect, a key concept in the road to higher enlightenment which I will discuss in future posts. Perception provides to the human experience with: A world view to determine what sensory and intellectual data to consider and what to discard based upon (representative, not all inclusive): Personal Impact Personal Accountability Personal Interest Personal Relevance Ability to effect Sources ... • 19. How Does Hector Criticize The Greek Honor System Homer s Critique on the Greek Honor System in The Iliad The Iliad, a great epic poem written by Homer, illustrates the honor system valued deeply by the Greeks and Trojans. Though Homer uses Hector as a voice piece for the honor system, he presents Hector and other characters as heroes that conflict with the code itself. Through Hector s conversation with Paris, we identify the three main components that codes the honor system. In other great epic poems, great heroes appear to possess and suffice the components. Yet, Homer chooses to do the exact opposite. In The Iliad, the heroes , such as, Paris, Diomedes, and Hector himself, conflict with the codes. Homer criticizes the Greek honor system by contradicting the system through these conflicted heroes. Through Hector, Homer points out the transfer of glory between enemies through battle as one of the main components in the honor system. Hector expresses this particular concept through his conversation with Paris. One of the most prevalent characters that represents this is Kurtz. Kurtz is the most imperialistic character in the entire book. In fact, Conrad takes this a step farther by showing that Kurtz had completely lost all of his morals. Witnesses may be excluded from the courtroom until they are finished testifying (Clallam County, 2011). The argument for this rule is to ensure that a witness is not influenced by the testimony of another witness. If you are a victim, you have the right to be present throughout the hearing. Since there are no jury trials in juvenile court, the Judge will determine whether or not the juvenile is innocent or guilty of committing a delinquent act after hearing the facts of the case. The Juvenile Prosecutor then presents the case against the juvenile respondent. How Does Friesen Use Magic In The Tempest In opposition to Gibson, Ryan Friesen believes that Shakespeare was aware of magic in his culture, but that he used it more as a plot device rather than as a manifestation of his own beliefs in the supernatural. Friesen explains that while witchcraft and diabolic magic were popular among audiences, universal themes were more important. In relation to both Doctor Faustus and Macbeth, he says sin and a hunger for power are themes that are contradicted if the tragic protagonist s fate is blamed more on his occult prowess than on his decisions to deceive, exploit, and murder his cohorts, (122). As far as scholars can tell, all of the supernatural in this play was made up entirely by Shakespeare, disregarding the chance that he was inspired by a play that was never found (Gibson 139). In the eyes of Friesen, however, The Tempest was more concerned with the aesthetic and thematic use of magic rather than using it as a depiction of a particular supernatural being. Friesen says, in the use of magic as a thematic tool, a reflection of ways in which knowledge and power are gained and governance sought on a middle ground between theory and experience, (Friesen 190). As Prospero s magic is not particularly based off one of Shakespeare s magic toolbox materials, Gurr claims that The Tempest s highly spectacled use of staging operates as a metaphor for Shakespeare s own art (191). In fact, this play is the only one that actually uses stage spectacle and stage business as much as it does (191). This stage business included a quaint device for Ariel to use to make the banquet vanish, in which the banquet would have needed to be fastened to a reversible top table (192). Henslowe s list also included a bit about the exotic costumes the goddesses would be wearing (200). And Gurr explained that there was likely a way to create a wet look for the mariners after the shipwreck (184). • 35. Is Multitasking A Learning By Disrupting The Encoding Of... In this experiment, Sana, Weston, and Cepeda grounded their research questions in previously conducted research on the topics of divided attention and dual task interference. It had been demonstrated in these earlier studies that multitasking obstructs learning by disrupting the encoding of new material. It was theorized that these errors in information processing inevitably occur because our cognitive resources are finite and easily overtaxed by multiple, simultaneous tasks. Besides resulting in poorer encoding of information into one s long term memory, it was also noted that comprehension and course performance significantly decline among multitaskers. What more, there was evidence that the attention of other, non multitasking students may be accosted by the mere proximity of a multitasking individual. Bearing all of this in mind, the researchers of the current study formulated two hypotheses. The first hypothesis was that multitasking computer users would score lower on measures of comprehension than non multitasking, computer users. The second hypothesis was that participants who were within view of multitaskers would score lower on measures of comprehension than their peers who did not have computer multitaskers within their line of sight. To answer the question, I believe that the authors of The Signalman and The Monkey s Paw use the genres of mystery very well. I am going to explain why I think that in the following essay. The first idea that I am going to look at is the role of fate. We see this take place in both stories, but in slightly different ways. In The Monkey s Paw, we see fate take on a large role, as the story is about a monkey s paw that has been invested with a lot of evil power because an old fakir wanted to teach people not to interfere with fate and its course. In The Signalman however, the role of fate is not as large as the role in The Monkey s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, I will look at the suggestion of spectre. In The Monkeys Paw, the paw had been invested with so much power because it had a spell put on it by an old fakir , as this holy man wanted to get a message across to people that they were not to interfere with fate and its course. The Signalman is a story about a man who sees a figure, or a spectre several times, and after the sightings, the next day somebody dies. The suggestion of spectre plays quite a big role in this story, and gives a very effective result. The left arm is across the face, and the right arm is waved, violently waved. Moreover, the setting of The Monkey s Paw adds to the way Jacobs used the genre of mystery. Without, the night was cold and wet . You could imagine a typical mystery scene, with rain, claps of thunder etc a effective setting. The atmosphere inside the house was equally successful in grabbing my attention, the fire was burning and the blinds were drawn, and this gives me the idea of being cosy inside when the weather outside is terrible and miserable an appealing setting. The story is mostly set at night, which adds to the eeriness. Equally, Dickens grabs the reader s attention with a disturbing atmosphere. The steep cutting nearly over his head gives me the idea of claustrophobia. The thought of a foreshortened and shadowed figure gives me the sense of a figure that is possessed and not as it seems. For M2, I will compare the different distribution channel for two different product which is food and clothing. Food The distribution of food is different from clothing as suppliers will need to bear in mind how to appropriately handle food products, example, and health inspection in storage room to avoid transmissible disease. The food distribution is short to ensure that the food is fresh and will not go out of date. This is why many food retailer like Tescomainly source their product in UK than overseas. Food like fruits are perishable therefore retailers need to take in consideration to how they will handle the product, transport they are going to use, preservation of product and how it s going to be packaged before they sell it to customers. Perishable food like fresh strawberries or frozen food are both time and temperature sensitive. This is why business like Tesco usually temperature in their storage room is at optimum temperature range to maintain quality and freshness of the food like fresh strawberries. Many different things can be made ranging from a simple Christmas ornament, to a work of art. Glassblowers use many different techniques and tools to aid them in their jobs. Glassblowing is not an easy job, it requires knowledge in what you re doing and the skill to not harm yourself or others. Glass has a variety of unique properties. Glass is hard, very brittle, a good insulator, and does not react to other chemicals easily. In addition to this, glass is considered an amorphous solid. This means that the molecular structure of glass is mostly random. This is because in the process of making glass, glass is cooled so quickly that it does not have time to form or create a structure at the molecular level. This process is known as quenching. There are a variety of tools and equipment used in the glassblowing process. Three of which consist of three very large furnaces. The first furnace melts the glass and keeps the glass hot. The melted glass inside the first furnace is referred to as batch. The furnace keeps the batch at over two thousand one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. The glassblower then takes a long pipe, about four feet long, and places it inside the furnace. In addition, the glass pipe is heated to a really hot temperature so that the glass will adhere to the metal rod. If the rod is not heated, the glass will not stick to the rod. People are constantly defining themselves to fit into a group, ethnicity, or regional identity. It is crucial because humans need the community and culture as the greater the number of identities held, the stronger one s sense of meaningful, guided existence (Thoits, 175). Hence, by having a regional identity and a larger sense of unity as an imagined community gives a sense of security to humans as stated that people s awareness of being part of the global space of flows seems to have generated a search for new points of orientation, efforts to strengthen old boundaries and to create new ones, often based on identities of resistance (Paasi, 475). Those in advertisement have jobs that require them to sell us products and they walk a fine line to entice us to buy. The claims in the advertisements are what sells the product in the end, but many of them leave out important information and provide us with hyped and over exaggerated claims. Original sin has been defined as the need for redemption by Christ that is universal to all human beings and acquired through natural generation. Descent of all humans from a single couple monoecism is not essential to the doctrine; the Catholic magisterium has continued to insist on it simply in order to explain why all humans need to be saved. The requirement of natural generation likewise sought only to account for the undeniable fact that the tendency to sin is present in all of us, even prior to our first moral choices. It does not imply, in Augustinian fashion, that sexuality is somehow the root of all evil. According to the article we do all sin because we have all inherited from the very first living things on earth a powerful tendency to act selfishly, no matter the cost to others. Free will enables us to override this tendency, but only sporadically and with great effort; we more readily opt for self. This tendency in all of us is what our tradition calls the stain of original sin. It is not the result of a fall in our prehistory, since we were never more selfless than we are now.
