I. INTRODUCTION
Forest has many advantages to human life and the earth as the lungs of the world. In the economic
field, the forestry sector contributes significantly to the national income accounts. The high price
of timber in international market leds to timber exploitation in the early 90 s [S. Syarif, et.al,
2012]. It encourages illegal logging actifity, which causes adverse effects especially on the
economy and ecology fields. In the economic field, the state revenues declined due to the loss of
timber tax and the chance to produce the high quality products of timber also decreased. In
addition, the nature inbalance causes climate change, declining soil productivity, soil erosion and
flooding, habitat destruction, and loss of biodiversity. To solve the problems, the illegal logging
detection system is urgently needed. In this research, image processing and Discrete Cosine
Transform (DCT) are applied for the detection. Nowadays,

The Hill By Sir William Drummond Stewart
In 1837, a wealthy Scottish nobleman named Sir William Drummond Stewart took Alfred Jacob
Miller on his outing to the Rockies. Stewart had previously been to the mountains in 1833. But
due to the failing health of his brother, Stewart thought that his journey into the American West
might be his last. So he hired Miller to pictorially record the journey. Hence, Miller became the
first artist to cross the continental divide at south past and thus, the first artist to portray the
Rocky Mountains in great detail. Stewart and Miller started out their journey from St. Louis
and went across the plains of Nebraska along the Platt River. [1] Stewart had hired Miller to
paint pictures of their daily lives. However, Miller being a son of a prosperous farmer and
merchant was not accustomed to the adversities of the journey and he quite often complained to
Stewart about the hardships of the trail. They were travelling 20 30 miles a day on their saddle
so it was impossible for Miller to draw while travelling. So, instead Miller began to sketch images
with either pen or pencil during the noon hours when they would have their large meal, as it
required the least amount of time to dry before they started heading towards their next stop.
Despite the hardship of the journey he completed over 200 field sketches in both pencil and
watercolor. Through the work of Miller, America got to see its untouched beautiful wilderness
composed of vast mountain ranges and winding rivers. For majority of

Vice President Essay
Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,
First and foremost, thank you for being here in support of the student government association. I
want to thank our amazing dean Edina for encouraging me to run for vice president of SGA.
Many people have asked me why I am running for vice president. Would you ask a fifth grader if he
is going to go to the 6th grade? No right because they have to keep going to the next level. Ever
since I came to the University of Bridgeport, I constantly looked for ways to become more
involved and to keep having an impact in the university. Every year, here at the University of
Bridgeport I am involved in something new. Whether it s being an OL, President of a Club or
even starting a chapter/club which is known as the food recovery network, with the help of my
peers. The food recovery network have recovered more than 300 pounds of food that would
otherwise have been thrown out.
My last involvement with SGA was when I was a senator. As a senator, I held various town halls
that had a high number of participants from students and teachers. I engaged the students in various
topics in those town halls, such as what we could do to make the school of business better? How
we can implement what we learned in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

That candidate ladies and gentlemen, is me. Since my freshman year, I fell in love with UB but I
mostly fell in love with what UB can one day be. I am constantly sitting down with Edina, the
provost, and even sometime president solyen to discuss how we can better UB and how we can
increase the retention rate and build the school spirit that we sometimes lack and help students

The Balance Scorecard, By Robert S. Kaplan And David P....
As suggested by the biggest proponents of the Balance Scorecard, Robert S. Kaplan and David P.
Norton, What you measure is what you get. Senior executives understand that their organization s
measurement system strongly affects the behavior of managers and employees. Hence, after a year
long research with many companies, they devised the Balance Scorecard (BSC) measure which
revolutionized the traditional thinking about performance measures. By looking beyond the
traditional financial performance measures, the managers were able to better understand the
strategy, positioning and performance of their company. The underlying reason behind getting this
comprehensive view of the business was BSC approach focused on predicting future... Show more

Human Trafficking In America
Slavery is when persons are owned and controlled by other persons, and they have little to no
freedom. In Eastern Europe slavery ended in 1528, but human trafficking has been going on for
thousands of years. A few decrees did not stop the horrible crime called human trafficking. By
definition human trafficking is modern day slavery; people that are victims are imprisoned and
worked until they are physically unable to any longer. Many people turn a blind eye to human
trafficking. Despite the minimal efforts of various governments Eastern European humantrafficking
is on the rise, leading to an increase in the economic exploration of the victims of human trafficking.

Comedy And Social Ideas Of Norman Lear
Norman Lear was picked as a nominee for the prestigious Kennedy Center Award. Instead of
accepting the award, Lear decided to boycott the Kennedy Center ceremony in December at the
White House to protest Donald Trump presidency. Norman Lear has embodied the role as an agent
of change because throughout his life, he has been breaking societal norms and discussing issues in
society that people are afraid to talk about. Specifically, in 1971, a groundbreaking American
televisionsitcom broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American
audience viewed television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and
1960s, fight for women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through
stereotypes and entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its
audience in a very blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with
contemporary cultural issues in a relatable way, which allowed blue collar workers to learn about
their current everyday issues and concerns. Therefore, from declining his Kennedy Center Award
because of his dislike for the President to breaking the taboos of television in the 1970s, Norman
Lear has remained a visible changemaker in our society.
Lear fused comedy and serious social issues together. All in the Family became the center of
national debate between comedy and social issues. Norman Lear helped to introduce social realism,

Role Of Gladiatorial Sports In Roman Times
Matthew Melnychuk4/28/16
Latin Ms.CellaPeriod 3
Sports During The Roman Time Period During the Roman Times from (31 BCE to 476 CE)
sports were both things that many did in their daily life and as well as Roman Fighting games.
Not all Roman games were violent and played by men. Many Roman kids would swim, ride
horses, hunt and fish, play board games during their leisure time. Sports were very important to the
Romans because some had a religious meaning to them. Gladiatorial games in Ancient Rome and
modern sports have more in common than some would think. Violence has been a key component
to the success of each of these games. Many spectators watched as the Coliseum was filled with
blood from brutal gladiatorial matches. These days, hundreds of people watch two men fight in a
boxing ring. After thinking about gladiatorial games and looking at modern sports see similarities
between the two. The Romans believed that they inherited the practice of gladiatorial games from
the Etruscans who used them as part of a funeral ritual. The first gladiatorial games were offered in
Rome in 264 BCE by sons of Junius Brutus Pera in their father s honor. Even though this ritual
began as a ceremony to honor important men after their death, it began ... Show more content on

stream. Mostly men and boys were taught how to swim. Horseback Riding was something that was
taught to young boys because it was something they should always know. Hunting and Fishing was
also something that Men and boys mostly did. Many men taught their boys to hunt and fish so they

Yes, Father Daniel Mary has established a future direction for the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming.
He has expansionary plans for both the Carmelite Order and for Mystic Monk Coffee. The
expansionary plans for both are part of Father Daniel Mary s vision to transform the small

While Father Daniel Mary does have a concise vision as to his expansionary goal for the
Wyoming Order of the Carmelite Monks quest to build a New Mt. Carmel I do not believe that
he has a definite performance target strategy for achieving his vision. The case study explicitly
stated that he was aware that his vision would require careful planning and execution, but there
was no mention of a detailed strategic business plan on as to how Father Daniel Mary would turn
his vision into a reality. Yes, he had sought to expand the operations of Mystic Monk Coffee
outside of the niche market of focus marketing to the Catholics by branching into online sales with
unique programs to increase sales, wholesales of the coffee and the sales of the product to both
local churches and coffee shops. However there were still limitations on the production of the
product; such as production schedules based on monastery worship practices, outside contracting in
the secular world for commissioned sales of their product, equipment processing limitations and no
indications of increased customer demand for the product from the information that was provided
in the case study.
Q3. What is Father Daniel Mary s strategy for achieving his vision?

The Great Wave Off Kanagawa Analysis
The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai is an important piece in the history of
Japanese art because it illustrates how native Japanese aesthetics and beliefs continue to thrive in
its own art, despite new, foreign influences and changing trends in what is deemed as beautiful.
Similar to many other landscape woodblock prints, it demonstrates an influence from the west
with its ability to produce a sense of realism, space, and depth. Such an influence, however, does
not dominate over the native Japanese aesthetics, but is incorporated with them instead. One
example is how the composition appears to be more heavily weighted on the left hand side due to
the large size of the cresting wave. The sense of asymmetry has its roots since ancient

Hedda Gabler is a text in which a very domineering society drives a woman to her suicidal death.
Many argue that Hedda s death is an act of courage, as rebellion against the rules of the society,
however other believe that Hedda s actions show cowardice, as she is unable to cope with the
harsh reality of the her situation. Hedda s singular goal throughout the play has been to prove that
she is still in possession of free will. Hedda shows many examples of both courageand cowardice
throughout the play, differing to the character she is with.

aristocratic ways. She had freedom and a voice, which she never thought would be taken away.

this act of Eilert Lovborg s. followed by. I mean for me. It gives me a sense of freedom to know
that a deed of deliberate courage is still possible in this world, a deed of spontaneous beauty.
Whilst among Tesman, Hedda shows her courageous side, due to her resentment for society

Kids Should Not Be Allowed To Wear Uniforms In Schools
Many schools each year are gradually turning towards the use of school uniforms. Statistics show
that 5% of schools worldwide are starting to take use in having school uniforms. I believe that
schools should have uniforms because it limits kids to getting bullied, parents don t have to worry
if their kids have name brand clothingor not, and the schooldoesn t have to worry about kids

In case, you didn t know, more than half of the kids who don t wear uniforms to school get bullied

Most kids are late getting to school because they do not know what to wear. If schools get
uniforms it will reduce the amount of kids showing late up late to school every day. Also,
teachers won t have to stress about kids wearing inappropriate clothing to school if they have to
wear uniforms. Although, kids like to express themselves by the clothes they wear, having school
uniforms decreases the chance of kids showing up late to school and dressing inappropriately. If
schools who have uniforms came up with a way for kids to express themselves, uniforms wouldn t
be as bad.
All things considered, I think every school should have uniforms. Although, not very many schools
have uniforms now, this can be the first of many steps to end bullying, they can help the parents
save money, and they will stop kids from dressing inappropriately. After considering all the
solutions that can impact your students in positive ways, schools should consider having uniforms.

they don t let kids express

Hidden Figures By Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan And...
Hidden Figures Film Analysis Hidden Figures is a 2016 film that recounts the story of three
incredible black women in NASA history: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson.
The film largely sheds light on the experiences of these three women working as computers for
NASA during 1960s segregated America. Public restrooms are separated between the whites and
coloreds, the white male patriarchy dominates the field, and as always, racism is alive and well.
During the film, the political unrest of the country is present and very much of conversation, and as
these three women navigate their way throughout society with positions no one expects them to
hold, they quite literally make history through their groundbreaking work, history... Show more

The acting of the three main characters was genuine, honest, and truly exemplary. What I also
found to be quite interesting and perhaps a weakness of the film, was the sense of performative
racism that four of the main white characters utilize and how the makers of the film appeal to
such a phenomenon through symbolisms as well. In the movie, there seems to be two main
kinds of racism the characters exhibit, one of them being blatant racism and another being subtle
racism through microaggressions. For example, Katherine experiences blatantly racist and
misogynistic behavior from her coworkers, especially from Paul Stafford, the lead engineer
(making groupthink much easier) and Ruth, the only other woman working in the office. On the
other hand, Al Harrison and John Glenn appeal to the subtler sides of racism and performative
white pity, Glenn going out of his way to shake the hands of the computers as the film attempted
to paint a positive, not all whites picture of inclusion, acceptance and tolerance, a kind of racism
that almost all of the white people in the film come to, by its end. Examples of this can be seen
in scenes like the one in which Al Harrison smashes down the coloreds and whites restroom signs
as if implying that doing so will abolish all racial inequalities with a couple of blows of blunt force.
One could infer it seems, that paired with the groundbreaking stories of these three women, white
people being decent human

Parenting Class on Sleep Settling and Postnatal Depression Sleep Settling I. Introduction The
Raising Children Network (2012) reports that sleep problems in infants and postnatal depression in
mothers are common experiences and it research has demonstrated that sleep problems occur in
approximately 45% of infants aged 0 12 months. This problem may result in serious consequences
for families that adversely affect child development. (Raising Children Network, 2012) Research
findings indicate an existing links between depression in mothers and infant sleep problems
although it is not clear precisely what the link between these two conditions actually is. II. Previous
Research Previous research includes a study of 328 mothers all of whom were reporting significant
sleep problems in their infants. The report states that some of the mothers were randomly allocated
to a program (treatment group) where they received consultation from a maternal and child health
nurse. (Raising Children Network, 2012) The mothers were assisted by the nurse in the
development of an individualized sleep management plan which was inclusive of positive bedtime
routines, controlled comforting or camping out, and strategies for phasing out night time feeds and
dependence on dummies. (Raising Children Network, 2012) The control group did not receive the

The Life of Alexander Pope
An honest man s the noblest work of God. Alexander Pope life was rough as a child because of his
illness. In his early career, and even later in life he wrote a lot of famous poets. Alexander Pope
lived his life as a famous writer until death from his childhood sickness
Alexander Pope an, English poet was born on May 21, 1688 on Lombard Street in London. His
father, Alexander Pope, a Roman Catholic, was a linen draper who afterwards retired from
business with a small fortune, and fixed his home on 1700 at Binfield in Windsor Forest. Pope s
education was a purpose to his father s religion so that excluded him from the public schools.
Before he was twelve he had obtained a slight knowledge of Latin and Greek language masters
from a priest in Hampshire. Pope also received other masters from a school in Twyford near
Winchester, Thomas Deane School in Marylebone, and later Hyde Park Corner.
Between the age of twelve and seventeen there were a lot of applications for pope to study. During
the process it weakened his health, and he developed tuberculosis of the spine which left him
crippled and harmed his view of life in so many ways. Pope then thought of himself dying, but a
friend Thomas Southcott, gave him advice about a famous physician named John Radcliffe, which
he prescribed a diet and exercise. Under this treatment the boy recovered his strength and spirits. He

uplifting and exciting piano introduction. At 1:50, I think it was quite a brilliant idea to spell R

enjoyed this track and how she also sang with confidence. Track 3 ( I never loved a man the way
): All I could think of this track is Wow! to me this song was how Aretha Franklin we have come
to know as truly introduced herself to the word as The Queen of Soul. The song starts out with a
nicely played piano and drums which was an intro to start singing. In the first couple of lines I
could feel the pain/emotion in her voice (from 0:08 0:24). I also loved when the trumpets came
in at 0:40, this added a bit of a Jazzy flavor to the song. Track 4 ( Do right woman, do right man ):
This song just happens to also be one of my favorites. This is quite possibly to my understanding
the best version of the song, although Gram Parsons had a good composition. The song is a
combination of beautifully recorded piano and bass instruments. Aretha Franklin s vocals is totally
wonderful and full of emotion, sadness, yet joy all at the same time. I liked the chorus with the

Agatha Christie, author of And Then There Were None used characterization and internal and

He cannot bear the thought that people are walking around and not receiving any punishment for
whatever wrong they may have done. Eventually his need to kill and serve justice overwhelms
him and he decides to take matters into his own hands. Wargrave did not remain static through all
of the events of And Then There Were None. At first when he was alive he did seem to want to
help figure out who the murderer was. By the end of the novel the readers learn about his true
nature and how the whole thing was planned out by him. He carried out this psychological
experiment to satisfy his own needs. All of the childish things he did such as the nursery rhyme
and soldier figure that seem like they were toys, makes it like nothing but a game for him.
The major conflict of And Then There Were None is the external, society vs. man conflict between
the guests and the murderer (Wargrave). The murderer plays with the guests minds while killing

The Reading Of Interest Is Anybody s Son Will Do By...
Summary The reading of interest is Anybody s Son Will Do by Gwynne Dyer. The author was
primarily focused on the intense resocialization civilians experience during military basic training.
The idea is that those who enter basic are socialized into soldiers and killers, which in return
creates efficiency. Dyer argues that any man can be changed through physical and mental pressure,
isolation and exhaustion, all after losing their civilian identities. Dyer focuses on resocialization
and the deprivation of individualism in the process of basic training for the civilians and also
shows the drill sergeants point of view. The beginning of the article focuses on the emotion and
feelings of killing a man in battle. Then starts to analysis... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
College freshman experience this as the move from a high school environment to life as a
college student. The change in routine, surroundings, and language play a role in
resocialization for college students. Also as talked about in the article, members of the Armed
Services experience resocialization when they leave civilian life to join the army. Finally,
changes in job and/or moving to another country are examples of modern day resocialization.
Individualism: Individualism is the term that refers to the ways in which people identify
themselves and focus their goals. Individualism gives priority to personal goals as opposed to
the goals of a group or society. Once the men have stepped off the bus on Parris Island they give
up every aspect of individualism, they are stripped of all valuables and given the same clothes
and haircut which they will wear for the remainder of time. American cultures which are seen
almost daily are the ability to voice your own opinion, choosing your personal perspective, and
even just the choices you choose to make. Individualism is something that can differ between
cultures, but most cultures share certain qualities. Social Norms: Social norms or more are the
rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in a group or society. People who do not follow
these norms may be shunned or suffer some kind of consequence. In the reading the civilians must
form to the idea of the marines, BECOME a man. If the men chose

Sweden and Hungary tax systems as examples, divided into two groups in turn to compare the
taxation power of their local governments. In contrast, local governments in France and Hungary,
two unitary countries, have greater autonomy in choosing tax standards. Local governments in
Germany and Sweden, two federal states, and local governments have limited decision making

Essay on Milton Hershey
Milton Hershey was not the type of person that anyone would have viewed as a leader, or shrewd
businessman. Being born into a rather poor lower class family, he was not very well educated.
The one thing that we do know for sure though, is that leaders are not born, they are made. This is
exactly the case of Milton Hershey, and because of his undyingdetermination to succeed, he
became one of the greatest success stories of all time.
What factors or events made the person a leader?
For Milton Hershey, he was the type of person that not a lot of people expected a whole lot out of.
He was your typical small town boy, and although he had very little growing up, he learned to be
happy with what he was given. Although Milton Hershey, did grow... Show more content on

starting another candy business in New York City. This as well failed. It wasn t until Milton started
dealing with caramel, that he really started seeing results back on his business that he was getting
from customers. The thing that really eneded up striking gold for him as we all know was the
chocolate industry. He took a big risk in getting into too, considering that he sold his fairly
profitable caramel candy store to pursue finding a way to distribute chocolate cheaper and easier to
lots of lower class people.
What was their leadership based on?
Milton Hershey s leadership style was based on never giving up, and his determination to
succeed at all costs. He also wasn t afraid to take his dreams seriously. He learned not to give up
from his father, who had failed in many things, but was always willing to try something new. This
is what ultimately led Milton to fail in business five different times before he finally succeeded in
the candy industry.
What specific acts impacted their people?
Milton Hershey affected the people that he worked with in a big way, in the sense that he wasn t
afraid, or too good to get down on their level and help them out. Although, this obviously became
more impossible as his business got bigger, he still did everything he could to help out his

The Development Of Software Development
I. Introduction
In today s software development, quality is a significant factor of software projects. Companies
always expect that software developers could deliver a product with as many as possible demanded
quality. How to allocate those limited resources transparently and effectively during the quality
assurance activities and how to balance the risk and quality while software development? Current
methods indicate us that we need to mitigate quality risks and emphasize the constraints of limited
resources for quality assurance activities simultaneously.
Moreover, as the development of software management, the time of which customers could not see
their software product until delivering is gone. Nowadays, it is much more emphasis on getting the
feedback of stakeholder about the project quality. Therefore, a major issue is how could developers
or software project managers reaches an agreement with customers about project functions or
features. In order to solve this problem, Alexander Poth and Ali Sunyaev attempt to establishing a
method, which allow stakeholder could participate in the selection of functions and features phase.
To do this, both project developers and stakeholders would have a confidence of the quality of a
project. Due to this attempt, they develop the effective quality management, which focuses on the
effectiveness of risk mitigation during project process.

western perspective, it is valuable. Therefore, the examples and the clear perspective provided
assists in answering the overall question of whether imperialism was constructive or destructive.
Regardless of the valuable information sources possess, they all also have limitations. The first
limitation of the source is that the speech doesn t show both sides of imperialism. This is because

In this paper an excerpt titled Theoretical from Engels Anti DhГјring will be examined in reference
to Engels ideologies regarding materialism, the social work order, and the fundamental problems
confronted in the clash between the social production and capitalist appropriation.
In the chapter titled Theoretical, Engels lays out the basic conflict between what we know as
socialism and capitalism, doing so by first examining what he calls the Materialist conception of
history (Engels 1939, p. 292). In his materialistic history he claims that the exchange and bartering
of products, and their production is the basis of every social order (Engels 1939, p. 292). He states

294) Thus small workshops slowly became obsolete, being replaced by gargantuan factories
where hundreds of peoples would come to produce a product together. The fundamental issue
that arises however is this: in Feudalism, and in earlier times it was clear who the owner of the
product of labor was, the individual producer had produced it, as a rule from raw material which
belonged to him, and often was also produced by himself... (Engels 1939, p. 295) As a result of
this, there was never any need to appropriate the product to him, as it belonged to him as an
absolute. (Engel 1939, p. 295) The problem here is that this idea continued on even after social
production had taken the place of individual producers, and the Social products were treated as if
they were still...the products of individuals. (Engels 1939, p. 295) Now the owner of the
instruments of labor continued to appropriate the product, although it was not longer his product,
but...the product of other s labor. Thus therefore, the products now socially produced were not
appropriated by those who had really set the means of production in motion and...produced the
products, but by the capitalists. (Engels 1939, p. 295)
Therefore the original contradiction in capitalism can be summed up as such: The mode of
production is subjected to

Not being able to write and write coherently, would drastically take away from one s life. I feel
confident that this argument would be enough to convince most but for those out there that like to

into the work field. I have yet to find a job profession that does not require even the slightest bit of

The Injustice Of Our Prison System
The injustice of our prison system In many cases we are forced to believe that the prison system
is fair and equal to all, although that may not be the case. The prison system at first glance seems
fair and equal but after looking closer you will find many times it s not fair at all. For example, an
African Americanmale could spend more time in jail for possession of crack than a white man
with the same amount of powder cocaine (Harmon 372). This is just one example of how society
has been taken advantage of in the prisonsystem. Some people are subject to years in prison
although they should not be while others enjoy life even though they should be in prison. The
injustice in the sentencing of prisoners is an ongoing problem in society, as some criminals get of
easy for horrible crimes others criminals suffer unfairly all because of color of their skin.
The phrase if you do the crime you pay the time has been around for years but what does it really
mean? If you do a crime should you take whatever sentence the court gives you? This is a
question that has ruled the justice system for years but the answer is one that is not so simple. It
is taught to us even at a young age that if you do something wrong you should be punished for it.
Most of us learned that if we do something wrong we are going to get what we deserve punishment
wise. That may be true in many cases but it is not always true in the prison and justice system.

Shostak acknowledges Eugenides writing as a call for change within the modern era. Shostak
details the Lisbon Girls and their suicides as a great metaphor: representing what is wrong with the
country , being the novel s ultimate scapegoat [...] predicting the forthcoming decadence , or
suicide to reflect the natural deaths due to industrialization (207). Shostak sees many reasons for
Eugenides writing about the tragic death of young girls. Primarily, Eugenides is depicting the
younger generation as morally corrupted. Shostak argues Eugenides writes with a greater purpose
than to sadden his audience with horrible stories. Shostak argues Eugenides writes with the
purpose to educate his reader: to send morally equipped readers to face a corrupted world armed
with opinions and an understanding of tragedy. The Virgin Suicides raises awareness of teen
suicide. Eugenides begins many conversations with his works, particularly this dark love story, with
underlying notions to our disappointing world.

Leon Festinger and James Carlsmith also tested his theory in 1959. They put all the participants
through a dull task. The task consisted in placing a large number of spools on pegs on a board,
turn each spool a quarter turn, take the spool off the pegs and then put them back on. The subject s
attitudes toward this task were negative.
The participants were then asked to lie about the task to another person. This person was actually an
assistant in the study. The lie was to try to convince the assistant that the task was actually
interesting and fun. The participants were either given one dollar or twenty dollars for lying about
the task. The experimenters found that those who lied and received the one dollar experienced the
greatest dissonance, and they were more motivated to seek cognitive constancy than the participants
who received twenty dollars. Those who received the one dollar reported to have enjoyed the task
more than those who received the twenty dollars.
There was an inconsistency between the attitudes of the participants and the behavior. The
participants who received twenty dollars just wanted the money. The larger amount of money
provided external justification for the behavior. There was no dissonance, and the participants did
not need to change their attitudes.
For the subjects who received only one dollar there was less external justification, and more
dissonance. They reduced their dissonance by changing their attitudes toward the task. The

Tang Dynasty Mediums
Art in ancient China manifested itself through many different forms and mediums. These included
ceramics, painting, lacquerware, and sculpture.(The Kingfisher history encyclopedia, 2004, p. 186)
During the period from the Tang dynasty to the end of the Ming dynasty, Chinese art flourished.
However, during the Song and Mongol dynasties, painting reached its high point in traditional China
. (Spielvogel, World history: the human odyssey, 1998, p. 299)
The Shang Dynasty made advances in the creation of porcelain. The artisans of the Shang Dynasty
worked with white clay to manufacture pottery, which was a forerunner of porcelain. (Beers, World
history: patterns of civilization, 1993, p. 64)

Analysis Of The Sound Of Music
At a period of time in the United States when the Vietnam War was rapidly escalating and gaining
opposition among the younger generation, the film The Sound of Music was released. Directed
by Robert Wise and released in 1965, The Sound of Music features musical numbers accompanied
by the movement and dancing of the von Trapp family. The setting of the film is Salzburg, Austria
in 1938 immediately following the start of German occupation due to the Anschluss. Ultimately,
the reprise of So Long, Farewell in The Sound of Music subverts governmental authority over war
by portraying a movement shift from being restricted and uniform to running away with hope of
freedom. The reprise of So Long, Farewell features Maria von Trapp, Captain... Show more content

As this pattern progresses, the children escaping the stage show more and more freedom of
movement. The last set of two sibling is two of the oldest daughters who, right before their exit,
make a small leap. This is the first time that enough excitement is shown that any of the family
members actually leave the stage surface. At this point in the number, only the two adults and the
youngest child are left on stage. The youngest von Trapp is ushered off stage to join the others
before Maria and Captain calmly walk off stage, embracing each other.
The most obvious subversion of war authority belongs to the setting of the movie 1938 in Salzburg,
Austria, the year in which Germanic Nazi power took over Austria. In March of 1938, Austria was
the first victim of Hitler s policy of aggression. The German domination of that country (the so
called Anschluss) heralded the beginning of a diplomatic demarche (Clute VII). Specifics as to how
this happened include a conspired alliance between Austrian Nazis and German Nazis who
infiltrated their power into Austrian government. The timeline of events began when Austrian
Chancellor Kurt von Schuschnigg met with Adolf Hitler after learning of the conspiracy.
Schuschnigg s intention from this meeting was to reassert dominance and independence, but
instead was pressured into electing Austrian Nazis to the cabinet. On March

Methane Hydrates And Its Effects On The Environment Essay
Methane hydrates, also known as Methane clathrates, are rapidly becoming a topic of interest to
many looking for alternative energy sources that would ease our reliance on fossil fuels while
scientists are working on innovative new ways to extract the energy with minimal damage to the
climate. These natural gasdeposits resting under ocean sediment appear very alluring to
governments and other entities looking for more energy independence. Nations look at energy
independence favorably as a way to stay geopolitically independent and perhaps gain an upper
hand in trade with nations that still rely on imported energy. The total amount of carbon located in
gas hydrates in the ocean exceeds the amount of all the oil, gas, and coal currently being refined in
total (Nersesian 2007).

INTRODUCTION Forest has many advantages to human life and the earth as the lungs of the world. In the economic field, the forestry sector contributes significantly to the national income accounts. The high price of timber in international market leds to timber exploitation in the early 90 s [S. Syarif, et.al, 2012]. It encourages illegal logging actifity, which causes adverse effects especially on the economy and ecology fields. • 3. The Hill By Sir William Drummond Stewart In 1837, a wealthy Scottish nobleman named Sir William Drummond Stewart took Alfred Jacob Miller on his outing to the Rockies. Stewart had previously been to the mountains in 1833. But due to the failing health of his brother, Stewart thought that his journey into the American West might be his last. So he hired Miller to pictorially record the journey. Hence, Miller became the first artist to cross the continental divide at south past and thus, the first artist to portray the Rocky Mountains in great detail. Stewart and Miller started out their journey from St. Louis and went across the plains of Nebraska along the Platt River. [1] Stewart had hired Miller to paint pictures of their daily lives. However, Miller being a son of a prosperous farmer and merchant was not accustomed to the adversities of the journey and he quite often complained to Stewart about the hardships of the trail. They were travelling 20 30 miles a day on their saddle so it was impossible for Miller to draw while travelling. So, instead Miller began to sketch images with either pen or pencil during the noon hours when they would have their large meal, as it required the least amount of time to dry before they started heading towards their next stop. Despite the hardship of the journey he completed over 200 field sketches in both pencil and watercolor. Through the work of Miller, America got to see its untouched beautiful wilderness composed of vast mountain ranges and winding rivers. For majority of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I want to thank our amazing dean Edina for encouraging me to run for vice president of SGA. Many people have asked me why I am running for vice president. Would you ask a fifth grader if he is going to go to the 6th grade? No right because they have to keep going to the next level. Ever since I came to the University of Bridgeport, I constantly looked for ways to become more involved and to keep having an impact in the university. Every year, here at the University of Bridgeport I am involved in something new. Whether it s being an OL, President of a Club or even starting a chapter/club which is known as the food recovery network, with the help of my peers. The food recovery network have recovered more than 300 pounds of food that would otherwise have been thrown out. My last involvement with SGA was when I was a senator. As a senator, I held various town halls that had a high number of participants from students and teachers. I engaged the students in various topics in those town halls, such as what we could do to make the school of business better? How we can implement what we learned in ... Instead of accepting the award, Lear decided to boycott the Kennedy Center ceremony in December at the White House to protest Donald Trump presidency. Norman Lear has embodied the role as an agent of change because throughout his life, he has been breaking societal norms and discussing issues in society that people are afraid to talk about. Specifically, in 1971, a groundbreaking American televisionsitcom broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American audience viewed television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, fight for women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through stereotypes and entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its audience in a very blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with contemporary cultural issues in a relatable way, which allowed blue collar workers to learn about their current everyday issues and concerns. Therefore, from declining his Kennedy Center Award because of his dislike for the President to breaking the taboos of television in the 1970s, Norman Lear has remained a visible changemaker in our society. Similar to many other landscape woodblock prints, it demonstrates an influence from the west with its ability to produce a sense of realism, space, and depth. Such an influence, however, does not dominate over the native Japanese aesthetics, but is incorporated with them instead. Hidden Figures Film Analysis Hidden Figures is a 2016 film that recounts the story of three incredible black women in NASA history: Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. The film largely sheds light on the experiences of these three women working as computers for NASA during 1960s segregated America. Public restrooms are separated between the whites and coloreds, the white male patriarchy dominates the field, and as always, racism is alive and well. During the film, the political unrest of the country is present and very much of conversation, and as these three women navigate their way throughout society with positions no one expects them to hold, they quite literally make history through their groundbreaking work, history... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The acting of the three main characters was genuine, honest, and truly exemplary. What I also found to be quite interesting and perhaps a weakness of the film, was the sense of performative racism that four of the main white characters utilize and how the makers of the film appeal to such a phenomenon through symbolisms as well. In the movie, there seems to be two main kinds of racism the characters exhibit, one of them being blatant racism and another being subtle racism through microaggressions. For example, Katherine experiences blatantly racist and misogynistic behavior from her coworkers, especially from Paul Stafford, the lead engineer (making groupthink much easier) and Ruth, the only other woman working in the office. On the other hand, Al Harrison and John Glenn appeal to the subtler sides of racism and performative white pity, Glenn going out of his way to shake the hands of the computers as the film attempted to paint a positive, not all whites picture of inclusion, acceptance and tolerance, a kind of racism that almost all of the white people in the film come to, by its end. Examples of this can be seen in scenes like the one in which Al Harrison smashes down the coloreds and whites restroom signs as if implying that doing so will abolish all racial inequalities with a couple of blows of blunt force. One could infer it seems, that paired with the groundbreaking stories of these three women, white people being decent human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Companies always expect that software developers could deliver a product with as many as possible demanded quality. How to allocate those limited resources transparently and effectively during the quality assurance activities and how to balance the risk and quality while software development? Current methods indicate us that we need to mitigate quality risks and emphasize the constraints of limited resources for quality assurance activities simultaneously. Moreover, as the development of software management, the time of which customers could not see their software product until delivering is gone. Nowadays, it is much more emphasis on getting the feedback of stakeholder about the project quality. In order to solve this problem, Alexander Poth and Ali Sunyaev attempt to establishing a method, which allow stakeholder could participate in the selection of functions and features phase. In the chapter titled Theoretical, Engels lays out the basic conflict between what we know as socialism and capitalism, doing so by first examining what he calls the Materialist conception of history (Engels 1939, p. 292). In his materialistic history he claims that the exchange and bartering of products, and their production is the basis of every social order (Engels 1939, p. 292). The fundamental issue that arises however is this: in Feudalism, and in earlier times it was clear who the owner of the product of labor was, the individual producer had produced it, as a rule from raw material which belonged to him, and often was also produced by himself... (Engels 1939, p. 295) As a result of this, there was never any need to appropriate the product to him, as it belonged to him as an absolute. (Engel 1939, p. 295) The problem here is that this idea continued on even after social production had taken the place of individual producers, and the Social products were treated as if they were still...the products of individuals. (Engels 1939, p. 295) Now the owner of the instruments of labor continued to appropriate the product, although it was not longer his product, but...the product of other s labor. Thus therefore, the products now socially produced were not appropriated by those who had really set the means of production in motion and...produced the products, but by the capitalists. The Injustice Of Our Prison System The injustice of our prison system In many cases we are forced to believe that the prison system is fair and equal to all, although that may not be the case. The prison system at first glance seems fair and equal but after looking closer you will find many times it s not fair at all. For example, an African Americanmale could spend more time in jail for possession of crack than a white man with the same amount of powder cocaine (Harmon 372). This is just one example of how society has been taken advantage of in the prisonsystem. Some people are subject to years in prison although they should not be while others enjoy life even though they should be in prison. The injustice in the sentencing of prisoners is an ongoing problem in society, as some criminals get of easy for horrible crimes others criminals suffer unfairly all because of color of their skin. Shostak details the Lisbon Girls and their suicides as a great metaphor: representing what is wrong with the country , being the novel s ultimate scapegoat [...] predicting the forthcoming decadence , or suicide to reflect the natural deaths due to industrialization (207). The subject s attitudes toward this task were negative. The participants were then asked to lie about the task to another person. This person was actually an assistant in the study.
