found to be quite interesting and perhaps a weakness of the film, was the sense of performative
racism that four of the main white characters utilize and how the makers of the film appeal to
such a phenomenon through symbolisms as well. In the movie, there seems to be two main
kinds of racism the characters exhibit, one of them being blatant racism and another being subtle
racism through microaggressions. For example, Katherine experiences blatantly racist and
misogynistic behavior from her coworkers, especially from Paul Stafford, the lead engineer
(making groupthink much easier) and Ruth, the only other woman working in the office. On the
other hand, Al Harrison and John Glenn appeal to the subtler sides of racism and performative
white pity, Glenn going out of his way to shake the hands of the computers as the film attempted
to paint a positive, not all whites picture of inclusion, acceptance and tolerance, a kind of racism

I learned many things about a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer s (DMS) duties during my time
spent job shadowing. It is a career that will keep you on the move. Much time goes into prepping
the room for an examination. From setting up the machine, reviewing patient history, choosing the

Descriptive Essay On Softball
Laura is a nice, shy, smart girl and she loves to play all kinds of sports like volleyball and
basketball, but her most favorite sport of all is softball. Today is Laura s first softball game she
is excited and nervous at the same time, and all day all she could think about is what if I throw
the ball the wrong way or what if I make a terrible throw or can t catch the ball when the ball was
being thrown right to her glove. Laura is also thinking about all of the good things that could
happen too like she gets the last out or she scores a homerun with the bases loaded. With all of
these emotions Laura is having a hard time concentrating at school and doesn t get a to good of
a grade on an assignment. Then when one of Laura s friends Riley walks up to her to ask Laura
what is wrong she said that the same thing was happening to her to so that made them both feel
better about everything knowing that they weren t the only ones feeling that way. When school
was over Riley went over to Laura s house so they could practice a little bit before their game and
they both practiced really well and that made them more confident and ready to play but Laura
was still nervous because she didn t want to do anything really embarrassing at their game in
Trenton. It has been an hour and Laura and Riley were off to the Trenton field to play softball.

The injustice of our prison system In many cases we are forced to believe that the prison system
is fair and equal to all, although that may not be the case. The prison system at first glance seems
fair and equal but after looking closer you will find many times it s not fair at all. For example, an
African Americanmale could spend more time in jail for possession of crack than a white man
with the same amount of powder cocaine (Harmon 372). This is just one example of how society
has been taken advantage of in the prisonsystem. Some people are subject to years in prison
although they should not be while others enjoy life even though they should be in prison. The
injustice in the sentencing of prisoners is an ongoing problem in society, as some criminals get of
easy for horrible crimes others criminals suffer unfairly all because of color of their skin.
The phrase if you do the crime you pay the time has been around for years but what does it really
mean? If you do a crime should you take whatever sentence the court gives you? This is a
question that has ruled the justice system for years but the answer is one that is not so simple. It
is taught to us even at a young age that if you do something wrong you should be punished for it.
Most of us learned that if we do something wrong we are going to get what we deserve punishment
wise. That may be true in many cases but it is not always true in the prison and justice system.

that implies we act in a way that contradicts our moral standards, we experience discomfort

Leon Festinger and James Carlsmith also tested his theory in 1959. They put all the participants
through a dull task. The task consisted in placing a large number of spools on pegs on a board,
turn each spool a quarter turn, take the spool off the pegs and then put them back on. The subject s
attitudes toward this task were negative.
The participants were then asked to lie about the task to another person. This person was actually an
assistant in the study. The lie was to try to convince the assistant that the task was actually
interesting and fun. The participants were either given one dollar or twenty dollars for lying about

greatest dissonance, and they were more motivated to seek cognitive constancy than the participants
who received twenty dollars. Those who received the one dollar reported to have enjoyed the task
more than those who received the twenty dollars.
There was an inconsistency between the attitudes of the participants and the behavior. The
participants who received twenty dollars just wanted the money. The larger amount of money
provided external justification for the behavior. There was no dissonance, and the participants did
not need to change their attitudes.
For the subjects who received only one dollar there was less external justification, and more
dissonance. They reduced their dissonance by changing their attitudes toward the task. The
