1965 Election Elections
Discussion Due to the large inflow of immigrants into the U.S. as a result of the 1965 Immigration
Act, the U.S. has become a much more diverse country. As a result of increased exposure to foreign
cultural groups, as well as a shift towards more educated and skilled immigrants, Americans have
become more accepting of immigrants and hold much more favorable opinions towards immigrants
than they did before 1965. This change in attitudes towards immigrants was evident in the change in
campaigning techniques from the 1968 presidential campaign to the 2008 and 2012 presidential
campaigns. In 1968, the effects of the 1965 Immigration Act were not yet evident, as the new residents

Schwartz and Troianovski (2015), reporters for The Wall Street Journal, claim that many residents of
the U.S. fear that the terrorist group ISIS will exploit this expansion and use it to smuggle terrorists
into the U.S. Fears have especially heightened after the 2015 San Bernardino shooting. Although this
has not been confirmed to be the workings of a foreign terrorist group (Karimi, Shoichet, Ford, 2015),
American citizens are becoming increasingly in favor of restricting immigration. In a December 2015
survey conducted by the Associated Press, 53% of respondents opposed the Obama administration s
plan to admit Syrian refugees into the U.S. and 54% believed that the U.S. takes too many immigrants
from the Middle East (Swanson, 2015). While pro restriction attitudes may cause the number of
people immigrating to the U.S. each year outside of the refugee system to decrease, the increasing
number of Syrian refugees entering the U.S. in 2016 and 2017 will offset this. The number of
immigrants voting in future elections will increase as a result of the refugee crisis, so in the future,
presidential candidates should increase the amount of appeals and advertisements used in order to
encourage Syrian refugees and other immigrants to

Calypso Borealis And I Wondered Lonely As A Cloud
Where can happiness be found in the world? John Muir answers this question in his essay The
Calypso Borealis, and William Wordsworth answers this in his poem I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud.
They both describe the positive relationship that they have with nature, and how happy nature makes
them. But the literary devices they use to express their relationships with nature are slightly different.
Both John Muir in The Calypso Borealis and William Wordsworth in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
use positive connotations of words and personification to express their relationships with nature, but
Muir also uses specific imagery to show how he appreciates nature, whereas Wordsworth uses unique
syntax to help show how joyful nature makes him.

In his essay, Muir describes the Calypso Borealis flower he found one day while exploring. He uses
mostly positive connotations and imagery to describe the flower: I found beautiful Calypso on the
mossy bank of a stream... its small white bulb had found a soft nest... and made the impression of the
utmost simple purity like a snowflower. This description of Calypso flower creates a clear picture for
the reader of what the Calypso flower looks like, while still creating a joyful tone. Muir does this by
using words and phrases with positive connotations, such as beautiful, soft nest, and purity. These
descriptions show how Muir views nature with optimism and joy, and finds beauty in nature. Muir
goes on to describe how his meeting with Calypso made a larger impression on him than any meeting
with another human, even though he met Calypso forty five years before writing the essay. Muir uses
personification in his description to show how he met the Calypso flower. He also repeatedly refers to
the flower as Calypso throughout the essay, as if the flower is a person named Calypso, which shows
how this flower meant as much to him or more than any person. Moreover, Muir is a naturalist writer,
and he studied how all living things are connected. When he is

What Is The Purpose Of Teenage Rebellion
The purpose of teenage rebellion is for young adults to show their independence from their parents
and authority. Adolescence is a time between being a child and an adult. People speak to you like an
adult but you aren t able to do the same because you are seen as a child. Many teenagers are trying to
figure out their place in their life and find themselves. Adolescence is a time for growth. During this
time many teenagers learn that what they once thought was a good idea really isnt. And that their likes
and interests will definitely change as they get older. The first purpose of teenage rebellion is for teens
to establish a sense of independence. In The Existential Anguish of the Tattoo by Dan Brooks, Dan

Teenagers are always questioning the things they are told to do. Stuck between childhood and
adulthood, this is the time to let go of immature habits and ideals and finally grow to accept

you do go through with it, the blame ll be on you, not them. Anyway, I keep stopping. The trouble is, I
get to feeling sorry for them. I mean most girls are so dumb and all. After you neck them for a while,
you can really watch them losing their brains. You take a girl when she really gets passionate, she just

Essay On Native American Equality
The matter of equality has always been a hot topic in every avenue of news, in every new stand and
now on every web browser. Some of the earliest stands for equality were rioting in the streets of
London for women s suffrage, and human, rights. Even the pilgrims had to stiff the upper lip and
break away to the New World for religious freedom. No matter the time, equality for one, always
means oppression for another, until the underdog stands and fights. In a recent dispute over the
ownership of Native American remains found in La Jolla, California, a team of scientists strove to
gain custody over the remains in hopes of unearthing a more specific map of how the first Americans
arrived in the North American Continent. However, the Kumeyaay Tribe claimed custody under the
authority of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 allowing Native
American tribes to claim their history on private or public lands. The scientists did not give, and
appealed to the Supreme Court, but were refused. Now, with a change in the tide, the power rests in

Unbeknownst to most, the American Constitution was a reflection of The Iroquois Constitution, their
symbol of an eagle clutching five arrows is even depicted on our currency, a document bonding many
tribal groups in peace and assuring rights to all, even women, who held important roles. Yet, these
people, who early Americans relied on, were not only persecuted, forced on reservations, but also
deemed merciless savages. The foundation of the United States was structured to be all inclusive for
those who built it, making them equal and others pushed into shadow. The white settlers gained their
freedom by turning the tides on Britain and now the Native Americans are, subtly, turning those tides
again, in search of their own equality in

McKinley served 7 terms in Congress from 1877 1891, except for a 9 months in 1884 1885. The
House ruled that his opponent, lawyer Jonathan Wallace, had received the most votes in the 1882

and became known as a protectionist and as a persuasive speaker. He was usually associated with
being on the side of big business, but he also worked hard for labor and later, as governor of Ohio, he
encouraged employees to join labor unions and to criticize employers who refused workers the right to

McKinley lost his next bid for Congress and returned to Canton in 1891. As governor, a position he
held for two terms from 1891 1895, he proposed laws to protect railroad workers and address the issue
of child labor, and a state board of arbitration was established to deal with labor and business
problems. During this time as governor he became friends with millionaire industrialist Mark Hanna

Sweatshops In The Sweathing Industry
See
Many large companies, especially in the clothing industry, rely on oversea sweatshops as their primary
source of production. The term sweatshop is used to describe a factory that violates two or more laws
regarding labor. In many developing countries, these workers are subject to terrible working
conditions, low wage, child labour, unreasonable hours and a lack of benefits. Sweatshops are utilised
due to the cheap labor and production by a number of companies like Zara, Kmart, Cotton On and
Target. Despite a number of incidents involving factory fires, collapse and faulty/malfunctioning
equipment killing hundreds at a time, workers continue to face these horrendous conditions and
treatment. This is a social justice issue as wealthy companies take advantage of the desperation and
vulnerability of those living in poverty. This results in unequal wealth, unfair and immoral treatment
of poor people, especially women who make up 85% of the workforce and children, for which there
are over 250 million aged 5 14 in the industry. For many, their hourly wage is less than a dollar, with
many not being payed at.

Essay On Persepolis
The graphic novel Persepolis, written by Marjane Satrapi, explores the Islamic life and cultures during
the Islamic Revolution in Iran. In this novel, Satrapi narrates her life as a young girl when this
revolution took place. By narrating her life, Marjane Satrapi allows the reader to get an idea of what
she went through. This story includes people fighting for freedom, for themselves individually and for
their country. While some people do experience a small bit of freedom, there are people who do not
have any freedom at all. This novel explores many forms of captivity and freedom that help enhance
the theme and culture of the story. First, Persepolis includes many forms of freedom. For example, the
Shah has more freedom than anyone else in this novel. He makes the rules and he can break them if he

While some people got away with their actions, most people got arrested or even executed. One form

prison or similar. Also, the Islamic people also experience religious captivity. They do not have a
freedom of religion like most other countries do. If these people go against the country s religion they
get arrested or even executed. They do not have the freedom they deserve when it comes to their
religious choices. The people of Iran are captivated by fear. They live in fear because of the Islamic

will be killed. Many innocent people got murdered during the revolution that resulted in the fear of

afraid of animals, the dark, monsters, and even more. But some people actually conquer their fears,
like a man named Mark Twain. In a speech called Stage Fright by Mark Twain, Twain is afraid of

Deep Allegory in Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown Essay
Deep Allegory in Young Goodman Brown
Herman Melville in Hawthorne and His Mosses (The Literary World August 17, 24, 1850), comments
on the deep allegory found within Nathaniel Hawthorne s tale, Young Goodman Brown.
Young Goodman Brown ? You would of course suppose that it was a simple little tale, intended as a
supplement to Goody Two Shoes. Whereas, it is deep as Dante; nor can you finish it, without
addressing the author in his own words It is yours to penetrate, in every bosom, the deep mystery of
sin. And with Young Goodman, too, in allegorical pursuit of his Puritan wife, you cry out in your

Stanley T. Williams in Hawthorne s Puritan Mind states that the author was always perfecting his
delicate craft of the symbol, of allegory (42). A. N. Kaul states : In an effort to apprehend and
adequately reflect the new complexity of man s life, he [Hawthorne] molded the venerable in his case
directly inherited allegorical method into the modern technique of symbolism (3).
M. H. Abrams defines an allegory as a narrative, whether in prose or verse, in which the agents and
actions, and sometimes the setting as well, are contrived by the author to make coherent sense on the
literal, or primary, level of signification, and at the same time to signify a second, correlated order of
signification (5). It is quite obvious from the names of the characters in Young Goodman Brown that
their names are contrived to give a secondary signification. Goodman is on the primary level a simple
husband who is following his curiosity about evil; on the level of secondary signification he is

The Human Condition Of The World
The Human Condition can be argued to be in a crisis with its position in modern society.
With a massive decline in personal interaction, corruption in government, and the event of
climate change that has never before been seen in the history of this planet. There are few small
groups around the world that try to make this crisis known to the world, although many world
powers and much of the population choose to either deny or ignore the cry for help. There is a
plethora of ways to spread the word, and one of the most common is through writing; authors
such as Jared Diamond or Al Gore commit their lives to informing the world about the decline of
the human condition. There are also authors that do not rely on pressing these matters ... Show more

Understanding just how temptation, culture and relationships can be interpreted as magic reveals
how these authors use their genre to inform the population of the failing human condition.
When the term magic is brought up in any kind of media, the immediate thought of
most people is fairy dust, unicorns, or J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter series; although the magic
in Magical Realism is truly none of that at all. The magic in Magical Realism comes from the
characters in the novels, through their thoughts and actions they create the magic that exists in
these novels. In these themes the magic reveals itself, they appear as unstoppable forces in
human nature that cannot be derived to an elementary force, and thus appears magical.
Temptation for instance, appears in A Hundred Years of Solitude and Invisible Cities to lure men
to unspeakable fates that impact the rest of their lives and the lives of the people around them.
Although the essence of temptation is an unexplainable force that exists blatantly to lead
humanity away from morality, the same force exists within the other two reoccurring themes that
are seen in Magical Realism. For example, relationships are emphasized and seen often in Life of

ENERGY IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Abstract
This report discusses the role of energy in sustainable development goals. The report highlights on the
target set by the United Nations and the time frame given to achieve these targets. Some of the
challenges hindering sustainable development especially in the poor sections of the population and
measures needed to be taken have also been identified. It concludes with the primary principles and
basic practices needed to be taken in order to achieve the sustainable development goals.
Introduction
Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland report, 1987). This really
emphasizes on the needs and the idea of limitations often related to the world s poor on how to bridge
the gap of needs and the environment (including climate) now and the future. Basically, it elaborates
on the equality of the life between the rich and the poor (that is, how the poor can be on par with the
rich) in terms of standard of living. Also, it draws attention to the use of green technologies in order to
build a better and brighter future. I believe this cannot be achieved easily, therefore the possibility of
achieving this can be very low, but with strong initiatives and plans, the bridge can be narrowed. An
effective tool for this can

A Comparison Of Mad Girl s Love Song And End Of The Road
Obsession: Love or Madness? The measure of how much one loves varies from person to person. One
person may view the intense admiration of a suitor as normal while another could view it as
possessive. Extreme passion and unrequited love could result in obsession behavior. Mad Girl s Love
Song by Sylvia Plath and End of the Road by Boyz II Men are two pieces of literature which share the
theme of obsessive love. Sylvia Plath uses dark images throughout the poem to convey her emotions.
In the first stanza of Mad Girl s Love Song the speaker says I shut my eyes and all the world drops
dead; / I lift my lids and all is born again (lines 1 2). The words the world drops dead depicts ... Show

We may even go so far as to plead for the persons return. Traditionally, the phrase End of The Road is
seen as a symbol for a place where a road stops, the end of a route, the end of a process or even death.
The song End of the Road by Boyz II Men is about a guy who gets his heart broken and is in denial
over the end of a relationship. He cannot let go but instead pleads with the woman to come back. The
song overall touches upon the theme of obsession in the sense that in the first stanza the speaker
stresses Girl you know we belong together [...]/ You ll be mine forever, baby, you just see (1 3) and
continues to say Although we ve come to the end of the road [...]/ It s unnatural, you belong to me, I
belong to you (16 18). The sentiment expressed in the quotation, embodies the view that the speaker
knows the relationship is over, but still wants to pursue something. His use of the word belong
conveys a possessive

The Importance of Teacher Tenure in Public Schools Essay...
Most would ask, What exactly is teacher tenure? . Well, in short teacher tenure is a permanent job
contract for school teachers. Teachers can earn tenure by proving their teaching skills over a specific
number of years while working at the same school. In most cases the number of years a teacher must
work at the same school is anywhere from two to seven years. After receiving tenure a teacher cannot
lose his or her job without just cause, for example obvious incompetence or severe misconduct.
Tenure offers job security to teachers that have successfully completed their probational period of
teaching. (Heard) So the questions is, should teacher tenure be abolished in public schools? One s
answer should be no. Teacher tenure is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think of it this way, experience is important. Tenure is one way to reward experience. Some argue that
tenure allows bad teachers to stay in the classroom. Teachers that are just there to put in their time and
don t really care about the students themselves. They feel that granting teachers tenure encourages
them to become complacent about their jobs. Tenures are something that can be beneficial to students,
as well. By providing job security, teachers can concentrate on teaching, instead of worrying about
overly obsessed parents coming after them. Take for instance, a parent getting a coach fired because
they did not give their son or daughter enough play time on the court. There is the classic scenario of
parents that will look for a teacher s flaws in teaching before they look for flaws in their child as a
student. (Sharifi) The bottom line is that tenure is a complex issue, most do not understand what it is
or how it works. Tenure policies vary from state to state, so its not surprising that most are not really
famililar with it. Also it only effects a small number of the population. Many are confused as to just
what rights tenured teachers have, or whether they can even be fired. First of all most should know
that teacher tenure has a system of due process, checks, and balances so that teachers can be fired just
not to easily. Before argueing that teacher tenure should be abolished, one should listen to a few
points.

Title
Pollinators show no preference between Goldenrod Plants and Aster Plants regardless of differences in
flower length.
Introduction
In this experiment, we observed the pollination of various plants by various pollinators in the
Binghamton University Nature Preserve. We collected data by observing various plants by the pond
trail area of the nature preserve and attempted to explain why some plants were structurally more
attractive to pollinators than other plants. While observing a variety of plants, it became clear that the
Goldenrod Plant and the Aster plant were the most attractive. This conclusion was drawn because they
attracted the most pollinators. In fact, data collected of the other ... Show more content on

The Chicory was pollinated by a total of 18 pollinators (8 Wasps, 2 Bumble Bees, 8 Honeybees). The
Knapweed was pollinated by a total of 8 pollinators (6 Bumble Bees, 2 Butterflies).
As discussed before, in order to study the structural attractiveness of a plant it needed to be considered
significant or have at least 30 points of pollinator data. The above bar graph displays the only two
observed plants that had 30 points of pollinator data over the course of the three days. The Goldenrod
plant had 35 points of data and the Aster plant had 42 points of data, making them both significant
enough to study further. Previous work by Koch classified both these plants as Composite Flowers
(1930). Given their similar internal structures, we would focus on a difference in flower length, an
external structure, to explain the differences in pollinator visitations. Previous work by Gross Werner
has shown the average flower length of Goldenrod plants to be ¾ of an inch (1983). Previous work by
Harder has shown the average flower length of Aster plants to be 2 inches (1985).

Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in Milan, Ohio. Thomas s father, Samuel, was
an exiled political activist from Canada. His mother, Nancy, was a school teacher. He had scarlet fever

The Hollow Hope By Gerald Rosenberg Essay
Throughout the 20th century the medium of music has allowed for artists to convey their thoughts and
feelings on important political topic facing the nation at the time. The power from these songs derives
itself from its ability to create a relationship between the listener and the artist and allow for the
message to transcend social barriers. A more recent instance of an artist using his music to connect
important social issues with a wider audience, is rapper Frank Ocean. Ocean revealed to his fans and
the world that he was a homosexual. This admission sent shockwaves throughout the rap community,
one that has been marred with constant criticism of perpetuating homophobia and extreme male ego.
His groundbreaking 2012 album, Channel Orange, allowed for many people to no longer be afraid of
their sexuality and it is something that should be embraced. Frank s impact will never fully be
realized, but he undoubtedly has made an impact on society and a stereotype breaker in the rap
community. This paper discusses the article by Gerald Rosenberg, The Hollow Hope which describes
the effect of political mobilization being sparked from litigation and how the courts have become an
avenue for social change. The article specifically looks at the rise of the LGBT movement after
landmark Supreme Court cases and whether this sudden mobilization in support, brought an even
more fervent opposition. Furthermore, this paper also examines Jeffery Segal and Harold Spaeth s

Examples Of Power And Authority In The Hunger Games
Power and authority is the theme that I have chosen for my making connections essay. My four chosen
texts are the book series The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the film series Harry Potter based on
the books by J.K Rowling, the film The Last of the Mohicans by Michael Mann and the book Private
Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo.
Authority is the right to give orders, make decisions and enforce obedience. Whereas power is the
possession of authority, control or an influence by which a person manipulates the actions of others.
An example of a person with such power is President Snow. President Coriolanus Snow possesses
total power over the Capitol and Panem. He s manipulative, merciless and brutal. Poisoning political

So when Charlie disobeys a particularly ridiculous order, he is immediately charged with cowardice

While Magua did not achieve his goal of gaining authority, but instead got the revenge he needed,
Hanley had authority and used it as an advantage to get what he desired. Both Magua and Hanley are
determined in order to obtain what they want, no matter what it took them. Even if that meant taking
the lives of the innocent.
I have come to the conclusion that authority and power are two separate ideas but both relate together
as one concept. Power can reinforce authority and authority is one of the primary sources of power.
Bearing this in mind, I feel that these four texts use a wide range of different examples to portray this
theme of power and authority, which I believe was shown as a clear message to the readers or viewers
of any of these four texts. Every man who has power is impelled to abuse it. CHARLES DE
MONTESQUIEU. Just because people are in authority, if it doesn t seem right, don t do it. If it

On Nuclear Disarmament Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Our challenge is to reconcile, not after the carnage and the mass murder, but instead of the carnage
and the mass murder. Carl Sagan s speech On Nuclear Disarmament is a powerful call to save
humanity by putting an end to weapons of mass destruction. Sagan claims that he does not know if we
are ever going to come to a complete peace, or if we will kill ourselves in the meantime. The claim
made throughout On Nuclear Disarmament is both compelling and thoroughly expressed. Sagan
presents his claim with rhetorical devices such as parallel structure, hyperbole, and repetition drawing
the listener to act upon his plea to prevent senseless carnage. Carl Sagan s use of parallel structure
illustrates that without peace we will not survive as a species. He says, A house divided against itself
cannot stand. Let me vary it a little: A species divided against itself cannot stand. A planet divided
against itself cannot stand. This type of rhetorical device moves the listener gradually from a house
divided to a planet divided, demonstrating the effect on every living person. When Sagan speaks of the
inscription on the Eternal Light Peace Memorial, A World United in the Search for Peace, I feel that
more attention should have been drawn to this point. He could have gone one step further by
emphasizing the hypocrisy of that statement when nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mental Health Advantages And Disadvantages
DSM is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual it is used by mental health professionals to provide a
clear and concise diagnostic description for a variety of mental disorders. There are five axes, and
each is assigned to a different mental disorder. The five axes are: Axis I, Axis II, Axis III, Axis IV, and
Axis V. Each category of DSM IV provides mental health professionals with a description that assists
in the determining if someone is or is not suffering from a disorder. With every diagnosis manual there
is advantages and disadvantages. Some of the disadvantages are over diagnosis, and confusing mental
disorders with everyday problems. On the other hand, diagnostic manuals can have its advantages
some of them are reliable diagnosis and create accurate and effective treatments for those that suffer
from different mental disorders. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual has its weakness and benefits,

Hero Is A Hero
Tom Hanks once said A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown. This quote
explains how people don t get picked to be heroes, they do good deeds to protect other people. A hero
is not someone who has super powers, is known by everyone, and always knows what to do. No a real
hero doesn t know what to expect, they just do what they think is right. Heroes are people we see
everyday, they are always willing to sacrifice themselves, they show great courage, and they don t do
heroic deed for prizes but for the safety of others.
Heroes are willing to sacrifice anything, even their life, for someone else. For example, police,
firefighters, and soldiers sacrifice their life every day to protect people from all the danger in the
world making all of them great heroes. Another example of a hero in action was a news story, the title
was Soldier shields women from exploding car , in the story it told how a woman named Brandy Guin
was stuck in a car that caught on fire. Unable to move a soldier named Cory Hinkle ran to the car and
got Guin to the side of the road and shielded her with his body to make sure she wouldn t get hurt,
luckily Hinkle or Guin weren t killed. He sacrificed his life for a woman he didn t even know and
stated after the incident he would hesitate to do it again making him a real hero. Finally a girl by the
name of Julandie Scholtz said The greatest sacrifice is when you sacrifice your own happiness for the
sake of someone else. By saying this quote she means to say that life and happienes are the 2 most
valuable things in life, sacrificing them would make one an awesome hero. These are great examples
of what heroes do every day, sacrificing their happiness, their life, and sometimes their own freedom
for others.
Heroes are courageous in the most dangerous or the most deadliest situations. In this case, a news
article that had the title of Man climbs up a building to save a dangling child. The man s name is
Liang Lee and he wasted no time to help the boy not fall. Lee courageously used his bare hands to
climb up an apartment building, all the way to where the child was, saying I got here and found the
boy barely moving he then carefully grabbed the boy and took him back down.

The Politics of Campaign Finance Essay
From the very first elections held in the United States, there has always been a strong link between
money and politics. During the first elections in the late 1700 s you had to be a white male landowner

whether or not it is through advertisements for politicians in the media or asked to donate money to

Through the leadership of Mark Hanna, McKinley was able to forge alliances with big businessmen,

Statin Research Paper
Statins (also known as 3 hydroxy 3 methylgutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors) are widely
prescribed cholesterol lowering drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
Although they are considered to be drugs with a very good safety profile, there are many concerns that
their adverse effects might compromise their proven beneficial effects due to their extensive usage.
Even though more aggressive lipid lowering with potent statins in high doses can reduce rates of non

by interfering with OAT1B1 a membrane transporter that helps regulate drug influx to the liver.
Certain drugs, such as calcium channel blockers, are considered weaker CYP3A4 inhibitors and
appear to increase statin rhabdomyolysis risk to a lower degree. Furthermore, grapefruit juice and

In conclusion, statins are the mainstay of lipid lowering therapy, with multiple studies confirming that

Subjective assessment is a form of questioning which may have more than one correct answer and/or
more than one way of expressing the correct answer, whereas opinion might in addition to also consist
of unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact based beliefs. Some have argued
that the distinction between objective and subjective assessments is neither useful nor accurate
because, in reality, there is no such thing as objective assessment. In fact, all assessments are created
with inherent biases built into decisions about the relevant subject matter and content, as well as
cultural (class, ethnic, and gender)

Child Independence Research Paper
Independence
As a child, one does not make decisions for oneself. Parents shape the lives of their children into the
person they want their child to become. They put their children into the sports, activities, and hobbies
that they think will take their children down a successful path. Then the time comes when their child
needs to start making decisions on their own. Although the children are not independent adults yet,
this time is a huge part of their transformation from sheltered childhood into independent adulthood.
Growing up, my parents had me in every sport and activity possible. Soccer, dance, basketball,
softball, cheerleading, you name it. The older I got, the busier I got, causing me to drop all sports
except soccer. This sport

Religious Liberty Paper
Is our society s strict adherence to religious freedoms costing the lives of innocent children? The
Christian Science Church rely on the Establishment Clause and The Free Exercise Clause of the First
Amendment as granting themselves and their children exemption from medical intervention. But
because of their insistence in relying solely on prayer for the healing their sick children,
approximately one child a month in the U.S. is known to die from an illness that would have been
curable had they had medical attention. 1 Religious liberties of parents might protect their beliefs, but
it should not protect their conduct of denying the rights of a child to his or her life. Section 1. of the

As American Christians we should rally around Constitutionally protected religious liberties granted
under the First Amendment clauses but not those that compromise Bible truths. 1 John 4 says, Dear
friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from God, because
many false prophets have gone out into the world. Cult leaders dazzle the uniformed with the seeming
insightfulness in their grasp of the Bible. (Holman Bible find a way to cite 9) Christian Science
founder Mary Baker Eddy is believed to have received her insights from divine revelation and so her
text Science and Health supersede all others including the Bible. (Hoekema 10) She said that she
wrote Science and Health to help her befuddled members through intricacies in the Bible they just

Britain And France

Professor Gottwailes
History
20 Nov 2017 The United Kingdom of Great Britain and France
In June 1940, The European Front of the Second World War seemed to be coming to a standstill with
the battle for the control of France coming to an end with German victory in sight. As the Germans
entered Paris, The French government had moved into a château in French countryside, possibly
preparing for the worst. The French Prime Minister, Paul Reynaud, had wanted to lead his government
in to continuing the fight of France in North Africa. The French cabinet, however, forced him to
submit to an armistice between Germany and France. On June 15, 1940, the armistice was signed to

De Gaulle, Monnet then set the terms of this new union meanwhile Churchill s War Cabinet met to
consider the union document. Support for the document was unanimous Churchill s ministers
recognized the need for a dramatic act to encourage the French and reinforce Reynaud s support
within his cabinet
Churchill then met with Parliament and stated that At this most fateful moment in the history of the
modern world the Governments of the United Kingdom and the French Republic make this
declaration of indissoluble union and unyielding resolution in their common defence of justice and
freedom, against subjection to a system which reduces mankind to a life of robots and slaves.
The two Governments declare that France and Great Britain shall no longer be two nations but one
Franco British Union. The constitution of the Union will provide for joint organs of defense, foreign,
financial, and economic policies. Every citizen of France will enjoy immediately citizenship of Great
Britain, every British subject will become a citizen of France. Both countries will share responsibility
for the repair the devastation of war, wherever it occurs in their territories, and the resources of both
shall be equally, and as one, applied to that purpose.
During the war there shall be a single war Cabinet, and all the forces of Britain and France, whether
on land, sea, or in the air, will be placed under its direction. It will govern from wherever it best can.

Platonic Love In Plato s Symposium
Plato s Symposium attempts to define the eclectic theory of love, a theory that is often believed to be
the universal principle that guides mankind s actions. Plato introduces several narratives in the form of
a dialogue that seek to characterize this multifaceted theory of Eros. The meaning of love naturally
varies in each narrative. Yet, in this dialogue of love, Plato presents a metaphysical approach to
understanding the ambiguous meaning of love. Ultimately, Plato values the perennial quest for
knowledge above all else. In Symposium, Platonic love is exhibited in the relationship between virtue
and desire, as expressed in Diotima s ladder. Desire is the vehicle, or the means to an end. The six
Athenians ultimately present different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The older man will exchange his knowledge and virtue to the younger man for the fulfillment of the
older man s sexual desires. Like Plato, Pausanias believes that the highest maxim in the world to strive
for is virtue: For he too has demonstrated something about himself: that he is the sort of person who
will do anything for the sake of virtue and what could be more honorable that that? It follows,
therefore, that giving in to your lover for virtue s sake is honorable, what ever the outcome. (185B)
Yet, Plato, through Socrates and Diotima, differs from Pausanias in the way in which virtue is
obtained. For Pausanias, the relationship between desire and virtue requires favors to be exchanged for
both bodily and mindful stimulation. Since virtue is the desired outcome for the young man, he must
submit to the authority of the older man by basically any means necessary, namely through sexual
favors. Homosexuality appears to be a common beginning for the quest of virtue and philosophy, but
by what means necessary to obtain these ends? Plato presents Pausanias s theory to be only partially
correct, as he ultimately extols a love that requires no sexual love. In Pausanias s theory of love,
sexual love is necessary to fulfill the both needs. Plato s ideal form of love is fully expressed in the
concept of Diotima s ladder.
Platonic love only partially identifies with Pausanias s theory. Pausanias s speech and the speeches of

Dionyza s Death Of Marina
The wife of Cleon, Dionyza promises to care for Pericles s child, but falls prey to jealousy and envy
when her own daughter is less praised than Pericles s. daughter. Hence she plots to have Marina killed.
The extract starts with Dionyza trying to persuade Leonine, her servant, into killing Marina. Dionyza
says Thy oath remember; thou hast sworn to do t showing us that Dinozya has already spoken to
Leonine about murdering Marina. We also see the convincing powers of Dionyza as she is very
aggressive and her motives are born out of jealousy. We also see Dionyza trivializing the death of
Marina by calling it Tis but a blow , who is trying to convince Leonine to go through with the murder
as she presents Marina s life as insignificant. Leonine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are given a good image of Leonine from Marina s words in line 33 36, You will not do t for all the
world, I hope. You are well favour d, and your looks foreshow you have a gentle heart. I saw you
lately, When you caught hurt in parting two that fought: Good sooth, it show d well in you . Leonine is
presented by Marina as being a kind, caring and gentle person, one who is also against violence as he
once stopped a fight.
The words spoken by Marina could also be seen as her being quick witted, as she uses flattery try and
save her life. She attempts to break Leonine s will by appealing to his softer and more emotional side.
She uses the example of Leonine breaking up a fight by comparing Dionyza to a bully and herself the
victim and asking Leonine to do the right think and come between her and Dionyza as well.

Marina s behavior and reaction to Leonine s threat also raises questions of as to whether she was

  • 2. 1965 Election Elections Discussion Due to the large inflow of immigrants into the U.S. as a result of the 1965 Immigration Act, the U.S. has become a much more diverse country. As a result of increased exposure to foreign cultural groups, as well as a shift towards more educated and skilled immigrants, Americans have become more accepting of immigrants and hold much more favorable opinions towards immigrants than they did before 1965. This change in attitudes towards immigrants was evident in the change in campaigning techniques from the 1968 presidential campaign to the 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns. In 1968, the effects of the 1965 Immigration Act were not yet evident, as the new residents of the U.S. that had immigrated to the U.S. immediately after the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schwartz and Troianovski (2015), reporters for The Wall Street Journal, claim that many residents of the U.S. fear that the terrorist group ISIS will exploit this expansion and use it to smuggle terrorists into the U.S. Fears have especially heightened after the 2015 San Bernardino shooting. Although this has not been confirmed to be the workings of a foreign terrorist group (Karimi, Shoichet, Ford, 2015), American citizens are becoming increasingly in favor of restricting immigration. In a December 2015 survey conducted by the Associated Press, 53% of respondents opposed the Obama administration s plan to admit Syrian refugees into the U.S. and 54% believed that the U.S. takes too many immigrants from the Middle East (Swanson, 2015). While pro restriction attitudes may cause the number of people immigrating to the U.S. each year outside of the refugee system to decrease, the increasing number of Syrian refugees entering the U.S. in 2016 and 2017 will offset this. The number of immigrants voting in future elections will increase as a result of the refugee crisis, so in the future, presidential candidates should increase the amount of appeals and advertisements used in order to encourage Syrian refugees and other immigrants to ... • 4. Calypso Borealis And I Wondered Lonely As A Cloud Where can happiness be found in the world? John Muir answers this question in his essay The Calypso Borealis, and William Wordsworth answers this in his poem I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud. They both describe the positive relationship that they have with nature, and how happy nature makes them. But the literary devices they use to express their relationships with nature are slightly different. Both John Muir in The Calypso Borealis and William Wordsworth in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud use positive connotations of words and personification to express their relationships with nature, but Muir also uses specific imagery to show how he appreciates nature, whereas Wordsworth uses unique syntax to help show how joyful nature makes him. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his essay, Muir describes the Calypso Borealis flower he found one day while exploring. He uses mostly positive connotations and imagery to describe the flower: I found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of a stream... its small white bulb had found a soft nest... and made the impression of the utmost simple purity like a snowflower. This description of Calypso flower creates a clear picture for the reader of what the Calypso flower looks like, while still creating a joyful tone. Muir does this by using words and phrases with positive connotations, such as beautiful, soft nest, and purity. These descriptions show how Muir views nature with optimism and joy, and finds beauty in nature. Muir goes on to describe how his meeting with Calypso made a larger impression on him than any meeting with another human, even though he met Calypso forty five years before writing the essay. Muir uses personification in his description to show how he met the Calypso flower. He also repeatedly refers to the flower as Calypso throughout the essay, as if the flower is a person named Calypso, which shows how this flower meant as much to him or more than any person. Moreover, Muir is a naturalist writer, and he studied how all living things are connected. When he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay On Native American Equality The matter of equality has always been a hot topic in every avenue of news, in every new stand and now on every web browser. Some of the earliest stands for equality were rioting in the streets of London for women s suffrage, and human, rights. Even the pilgrims had to stiff the upper lip and break away to the New World for religious freedom. No matter the time, equality for one, always means oppression for another, until the underdog stands and fights. In a recent dispute over the ownership of Native American remains found in La Jolla, California, a team of scientists strove to gain custody over the remains in hopes of unearthing a more specific map of how the first Americans arrived in the North American Continent. However, the Kumeyaay Tribe claimed custody under the authority of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 allowing Native American tribes to claim their history on private or public lands. The term sweatshop is used to describe a factory that violates two or more laws regarding labor. In many developing countries, these workers are subject to terrible working conditions, low wage, child labour, unreasonable hours and a lack of benefits. Sweatshops are utilised due to the cheap labor and production by a number of companies like Zara, Kmart, Cotton On and Target. Despite a number of incidents involving factory fires, collapse and faulty/malfunctioning equipment killing hundreds at a time, workers continue to face these horrendous conditions and treatment. It is quite obvious from the names of the characters in Young Goodman Brown that their names are contrived to give a secondary signification. Goodman is on the primary level a simple husband who is following his curiosity about evil; on the level of secondary signification he is Everyman or the new Adam: R. W. B. Lewis in The Return into Rime: Hawthorne states: Finally, it was Hawthorne who saw in American experience the re creation of the story of Adam and who . . . exploited the active metaphor of the American as Adam before and during and after the Fall (72). Goodman responds in this way to the fellow traveler when the latter implicates the governor in devilish deeds: Can this be so! cried Goodman Brown, with a stare of amazement at his ... With a massive decline in personal interaction, corruption in government, and the event of climate change that has never before been seen in the history of this planet. There are few small groups around the world that try to make this crisis known to the world, although many world powers and much of the population choose to either deny or ignore the cry for help. There is a plethora of ways to spread the word, and one of the most common is through writing; authors such as Jared Diamond or Al Gore commit their lives to informing the world about the decline of the human condition. The magic in Magical Realism comes from the characters in the novels, through their thoughts and actions they create the magic that exists in these novels. In these themes the magic reveals itself, they appear as unstoppable forces in human nature that cannot be derived to an elementary force, and thus appears magical. Temptation for instance, appears in A Hundred Years of Solitude and Invisible Cities to lure men to unspeakable fates that impact the rest of their lives and the lives of the people around them. ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT ENERGY IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS Abstract This report discusses the role of energy in sustainable development goals. The report highlights on the target set by the United Nations and the time frame given to achieve these targets. Some of the challenges hindering sustainable development especially in the poor sections of the population and measures needed to be taken have also been identified. It concludes with the primary principles and basic practices needed to be taken in order to achieve the sustainable development goals. Introduction Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (Brundtland report, 1987). This really emphasizes on the needs and the idea of limitations often related to the world s poor on how to bridge the gap of needs and the environment (including climate) now and the future. Basically, it elaborates on the equality of the life between the rich and the poor (that is, how the poor can be on par with the rich) in terms of standard of living. Also, it draws attention to the use of green technologies in order to build a better and brighter future. I believe this cannot be achieved easily, therefore the possibility of achieving this can be very low, but with strong initiatives and plans, the bridge can be narrowed. An effective tool for this can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The song overall touches upon the theme of obsession in the sense that in the first stanza the speaker stresses Girl you know we belong together [...]/ You ll be mine forever, baby, you just see (1 3) and continues to say Although we ve come to the end of the road [...]/ It s unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you (16 18). Teachers can earn tenure by proving their teaching skills over a specific number of years while working at the same school. In most cases the number of years a teacher must work at the same school is anywhere from two to seven years. After receiving tenure a teacher cannot lose his or her job without just cause, for example obvious incompetence or severe misconduct. Tenure offers job security to teachers that have successfully completed their probational period of teaching. (Heard) So the questions is, should teacher tenure be abolished in public schools? One s answer should be no. Teacher tenure is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Think of it this way, experience is important. Tenure is one way to reward experience. Some argue that tenure allows bad teachers to stay in the classroom. Teachers that are just there to put in their time and don t really care about the students themselves. They feel that granting teachers tenure encourages them to become complacent about their jobs. Tenures are something that can be beneficial to students, as well. By providing job security, teachers can concentrate on teaching, instead of worrying about overly obsessed parents coming after them. Take for instance, a parent getting a coach fired because they did not give their son or daughter enough play time on the court. There is the classic scenario of parents that will look for a teacher s flaws in teaching before they look for flaws in their child as a student. (Sharifi) The bottom line is that tenure is a complex issue, most do not understand what it is or how it works. Tenure policies vary from state to state, so its not surprising that most are not really famililar with it. Also it only effects a small number of the population. Many are confused as to just what rights tenured teachers have, or whether they can even be fired. The above bar graph displays the only two observed plants that had 30 points of pollinator data over the course of the three days. The Goldenrod plant had 35 points of data and the Aster plant had 42 points of data, making them both significant enough to study further. The power from these songs derives itself from its ability to create a relationship between the listener and the artist and allow for the message to transcend social barriers. A more recent instance of an artist using his music to connect important social issues with a wider audience, is rapper Frank Ocean. Ocean revealed to his fans and the world that he was a homosexual. • 31. On Nuclear Disarmament Rhetorical Analysis Essay Our challenge is to reconcile, not after the carnage and the mass murder, but instead of the carnage and the mass murder. Carl Sagan s speech On Nuclear Disarmament is a powerful call to save humanity by putting an end to weapons of mass destruction. Sagan claims that he does not know if we are ever going to come to a complete peace, or if we will kill ourselves in the meantime. The claim made throughout On Nuclear Disarmament is both compelling and thoroughly expressed. Sagan presents his claim with rhetorical devices such as parallel structure, hyperbole, and repetition drawing the listener to act upon his plea to prevent senseless carnage. Carl Sagan s use of parallel structure illustrates that without peace we will not survive as a species. He says, A house divided against itself cannot stand. Let me vary it a little: A species divided against itself cannot stand. A planet divided against itself cannot stand. This type of rhetorical device moves the listener gradually from a house divided to a planet divided, demonstrating the effect on every living person. • 35. Hero Is A Hero Tom Hanks once said A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown. This quote explains how people don t get picked to be heroes, they do good deeds to protect other people. A hero is not someone who has super powers, is known by everyone, and always knows what to do. No a real hero doesn t know what to expect, they just do what they think is right. Heroes are people we see everyday, they are always willing to sacrifice themselves, they show great courage, and they don t do heroic deed for prizes but for the safety of others. Heroes are willing to sacrifice anything, even their life, for someone else. For example, police, firefighters, and soldiers sacrifice their life every day to protect people from all the danger in the world making all of them great heroes. Another example of a hero in action was a news story, the title was Soldier shields women from exploding car , in the story it told how a woman named Brandy Guin was stuck in a car that caught on fire. Unable to move a soldier named Cory Hinkle ran to the car and got Guin to the side of the road and shielded her with his body to make sure she wouldn t get hurt, luckily Hinkle or Guin weren t killed. He sacrificed his life for a woman he didn t even know and stated after the incident he would hesitate to do it again making him a real hero. Finally a girl by the name of Julandie Scholtz said The greatest sacrifice is when you sacrifice your own happiness for the sake of someone else. By saying this quote she means to say that life and happienes are the 2 most valuable things in life, sacrificing them would make one an awesome hero. These are great examples of what heroes do every day, sacrificing their happiness, their life, and sometimes their own freedom for others. Heroes are courageous in the most dangerous or the most deadliest situations. In this case, a news article that had the title of Man climbs up a building to save a dangling child. The man s name is Liang Lee and he wasted no time to help the boy not fall. Homosexuality appears to be a common beginning for the quest of virtue and philosophy, but by what means necessary to obtain these ends? Plato presents Pausanias s theory to be only partially correct, as he ultimately extols a love that requires no sexual love. In Pausanias s theory of love, sexual love is necessary to fulfill the both needs. Plato s ideal form of love is fully expressed in the concept of Diotima s ladder. Platonic love only partially identifies with Pausanias s theory. Pausanias s speech and the speeches of the rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
