The Underground Railroad is not like the railroads that we see today, they were not made of box
cars and rails. They were routes that the slaves took to get to freedom, these railways were built or
used in late 1786 to 1865. They went from as far west as Kansas, and Texas and as far south as
Florida, they all were made to go north to Canada, or to Mexico, or the Caribbean Islands where
slaveryis illegal. This was an impossible task for the slaves to do on their own. There were many
factors on how they found their way and the people who helped them on their journey, which I will

My Experience In Singapore
A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions. These
words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my travel experience in Singapore
this past summer has changed my life. Traveling to Singapore has been an item on my bucket
list that I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my
travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while
visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with

ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have
flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive. However,
my nausea soon subsided when the airplane levelled out and the flight attendants strolled along
the aisles to distribute snacks. Shortly after, I peeked out the window and admired the thin
wisps of clouds in the dawn sky until I succumbed to my much needed slumber. I woke up from
my nap when I felt a light tap on my shoulder by my brother, Alex. He told me that it was time for

One day I asked my dad to go canoeing. I had never gone canoeing before but I was trying new
things and canoeing sounded intriguing. My dad told me he hadn t been canoeing for over 47
years. I asked him why and he suddenly got quiet like he was trying to think of something to say.
Eventually he just said he didn t like it anymore. I thought that was the end of the story because
we never did go canoeing that day. A few days later my dad came up to me and said there was
something he wanted to tell me. He seemed off edge and had been acting unusual the last couple
of days. Eventually, he spoke up and said that he would go canoeing with me. Once we got in the
water with the canoe, me sitting in front and my dad steering in the back, he started to tell me a

McCarty (March 7, 1908 September 26, 1999) drew nationwide attention after it was announced in
July 1995 that she had established a trust, a large portion of which at her death would be left to the
university to provide scholarships to give poorer students a chance at higher education. The amount
was roughly $150,000, surprising given her humble occupation. McCarty quit school in the 6th

She opened her first savings account at First Mississippi National Bank, and over the years she
opened several other accounts at area banks including Trustmark National Bank. As her savings
accumulated over the years she appointed Trustmark as trustee and executor of her estate.

subscribe to any newspaper, considering it an access extravagence. Although she did own a
black and white television, she only received the broadcast chanels. In 1947, her uncle gave her
the house she would live in until her death. The money she recieved when her mother passed
away was placed into savings as well honoring the woman who empowered her to control her
