Essay On Animal Cruelty
Writing an essay on the topic of animal cruelty is not without its challenges. The subject matter is
inherently distressing, as it requires delving into the various forms of mistreatment that animals
endure across different contexts. Addressing the emotional aspect while maintaining a balanced
and informative tone poses a significant difficulty. It's crucial to strike a delicate balance
between evoking empathy and presenting factual information without overwhelming the reader
with graphic details.
Moreover, research plays a pivotal role in crafting a compelling essay. The need to gather reliable
data, statistics, and case studies to support arguments and shed light on the prevalence of animal
cruelty demands time and dedication. This process involves exploring diverse sources, from
academic journals to reputable news outlets, to ensure the essay is well-rounded and
substantiated.
Crafting a strong thesis statement is another challenge. The essay needs a clear and focused
central idea that encapsulates the complexity of the issue without oversimplifying it. Developing
a thesis that not only guides the essay but also provokes thought and discussion among readers is
a demanding task.
Organizing the essay's structure is yet another hurdle. The challenge lies in presenting
information in a logical sequence that engages the reader from introduction to conclusion.
Transitioning between paragraphs smoothly and ensuring a coherent flow of ideas while
covering various aspects of animal cruelty requires careful planning and meticulous editing.
Ultimately, addressing counterarguments is essential to strengthen the essay's overall credibility.
Acknowledging differing perspectives and effectively refuting them demonstrates a nuanced
understanding of the issue. However, it adds a layer of complexity, as it demands a thorough
examination of opposing viewpoints and the development of persuasive counterarguments.
In conclusion, writing an essay on animal cruelty involves navigating through emotionally
charged content, conducting extensive research, formulating a strong thesis, organizing
information coherently, and addressing counterarguments. It's a multifaceted process that
requires both empathy and analytical skills to deliver a compelling and impactful piece. For those
seeking assistance with such essays or similar tasks, there are resources available, including

Schizophrenia Genetic Testing
According to the Mayo Clinic, Schizophrenia is a severe brain disorder in which
people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination
of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior. The
mental illness can cause people to act against their will, and will cause great harm
to the victim of such illness. According to the NIMH, Genetic tests for some rare
diseases clearly tied to a specific, single gene, like cystic fibrosis, fragile X
syndrome (a heritable cause of mental retardation), or sickle cell disease, give people
definitive answers about their risk of getting these rare illnesses. The two sources
show us that genetic testing can tell someone whether they have the risk of late...

Because of the term genetic testing can convince people that all the results are valid,
victims will take the results as the truth. A study by the University of California
showed that all humans are naturally configured to hear details that they believe they
need to hear. In this test, they used a decoding algorithm, and found something
called the cocktail party effect, which meant that you picked out what you felt was
needed to hear. Other tests came up with various concepts similar to the cocktail
party effect, such as selective hearing, the Homer Simpson effect, etc. So, a legally
obligated message about the inaccuracy of the test may not come out as clear to a
victim as message saying that they have schizophrenia. The unreliability of the testing
is not something that all victims will comprehend, and this may cause for some
complications. Believing that you will have schizophrenia, and believing that
someone you know will eventually have schizophrenia can cause for a lot of harm,

Port Maritime Security
In the current war on terrorism the world is just beginning to realize exactly how
far radicals are willing to go. From the 9/11 attacks, bombings, embassy raids and
just fighting on the battlefield they have taken their fight everywhere they can. With
that knowledge and some of the previous tactics used by them it can be safely
assumed that one major target area would be ports, not only for attacks, but also for
movement of their people and weapons into the U.S.
The U.S. government has reason to believe that ports will be a target for terrorism in

In large part because it is very difficult to detect who is going to become radicalized
and who is not. So if a port employee were to become radicalized and connect with a
terrorist organization without being detected, then there would be a possibility that
an attack could be conducted against that port due to him having access. The
authorities and security personnel at ports must always be ready for these kinds of
events and have plans set up in order to either prevent these actions or minimize and
control them should they
German Left Wing Terrorists
Prior to Germany s Autumn of Terror in 1977, concrete events lead the country down
a path where a necessary political student movement transpired and very quickly
turned the student group into a terrorist organization. Specifically, the attacks in May
of 1972 launched the Red Army Factions crusade against the government and the
public. Just like the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian
throne, by Bosnian Serb nationalists sparked World War I, the killing of a teenager,
Benno Ohnesorg, by German police sparked a radical student movement that would
change Germanyonce again. The death of Benno Ohnesorg was also a reminder of
government sanctioned murders during World War II under Hitler, which was once
again present in post war Germany. Moreover, individualism from youths inspired
the idea of needing an opposition party so Germany does not keep bonds with old
practices. The youths felt that conservatives needed to be pushed a side in order for
the country to move forward. Deriving from the student protest movement in West
Germany, the Red Army Factions attacks and juvenile reactions, during their first and
second generational existence, ultimately led Germany to a third reign of terror
giving even less credibility to the left wing radical group and their political ideology;
further leading to the leaders suicidal, arguably homicidal, deaths.
Although the RAF only had fifty official members, who were all privileged and well
educated youths, hundreds

Introduction
In this report I will examine the case Alibaba: Competing in China and Beyond.
Alibaba under the leadership of Jack Ma, its founder has transformed into one of the
most successful e commerce companies in China. In the 2000s Alibaba had emerged
as the largest e commerce company in China. The company tailored its strategies to
meet the needs of the customers and made a mark because of its understanding of the

Also again Ma decided to build a loyal customer base before really attempting to
make a profit; he did this by offering free listings as opposed to eBay, which charged
for listings (Deresky, 2010).
A major factors in Taoboa s success was Alibaba Groups better management of the
trust factor involved in e commerce trading and better understanding of the local
Chinese market. eBbay positioned its standard business model that was used in the
United States and other countries. Taoboa, instead, established its own payment
escrow service. With AliPay buyers paid into an escrow account that did not pay the
seller until the buyer noted he had received the product; therefore, making the
transaction thrust worthy since the money was in escrow until the transaction was
completed (Deresky, 2010).
Furthermore, Taoboa offered e mail and chat services between users unlike eBay,
which concealed identities and only had an offline messaging system. Taoboa also
advertised aggressively through websites and billboards in major population areas
something eBay did not do. The final steps of defeat for eBay was when Taobao
offered three years of free listings and when Taoboa launched its B2C services in
2006. Moreover Taoboa had a large list of

Strength Characteristics Of Slurry Infiltrated Fibre...
The main objective of this research programme is to find out the strength
characteristics of Slurry Infiltrated Fibre Reinforced Concrete (SIFCON) using fly
ash as a partial replacement to cement by 20%. The strength formed after 7th, 14th
and 28th days from the time and date of casting are studied in detail. In this
investigation the different fibres planned for usage are Galvanised Iron Fibre (GIF),
High Density Polyethylene Fibre (HDPEF).
The cement sand slurry used is of the proportion 1:2 with a water cement ratio 0.6.
The percentage of fibres (by volume fraction) used in the experimentation is 6 % for
mono fibres.

INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, we talk much about high performance concrete. It has higher strength,
better durability and elasticity. Although high strength concrete is often considered as
relatively new material, its development has been gradually taking place over many
years.
In the discussion of high performance concrete role played by FRC is vital. FRC is
defined as a composite material which consists of conventional concrete reinforced
by randomly dispersed short length fibres of specific geometry, made up of steel,
synthetic material or natural fibres. The fibres are distributed evenly throughout the
mix without balling or clustering. The randomly oriented fibres help to bridge and
arrest the cracks. As such, crack widening is gradual as compared to plain concrete.
This leads to better

China s One Child Policy Essay
One Child Policy
Over population has been a global issue for decades. Medical advances have made it
possible for people to live longer and have multiple births, which are just some of the
factors contributing to this social problem. Many countries have attempted to battle
this issue, but none as intensely as China. China allows the government to have full
control over family planning to help reduce the population. In 1979 China created a
policy called the One Child Law which limits couples to only one child. Although the
Chinese government hopes to curb the population boom and benefit society, the One
Child Policy has morally questionable results, negative impacts on Chinese society,
which should be changed.

Between 1982 and 1983 women who already had one child were compelled by the
government to use birth control. Women who were pregnant and the government did
not authorize it had to sustain an abortion. By 1982, charges of coercion against
couples who had an unauthorized birth and a second child were heard, and
punishment rather than incentives were being used to enforce the policy (Guo).
However, China s efforts at population control have met with some success. The
policy has been in effect for nearly thirty years. In that time, China has been able to
successfully reduce the population rate; even though they are still the most
populated country on the earth. Without the policy, officials estimate a population
of 1.2 billion by 1986 and 1.5 billion by 1994 (Guo). Earlier this year studies show,
China s population erratically increased in city parts of China where most civilians
reside. The One Child Policy benefits society by reducing the chances of poverty
rates and famine. It also enables families to fully concentrate on spending their
resources on one child, such as furthering their education and ensuring health benefits
(Milwertz 34). The policy also helps women concentrate on their education as well
as careers, avoiding emphasis on staying home with their kids (Milwertz 34).
Although the policy was a success for some time, the One Child Policy has many
negative effects on Chinese society.
The One Child Policy creates many social problems. Gender imbalance is

Brain Freeze Research Paper
MENU The scientific name for a brain freeze is sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia,
meaning pain of the sphenopalatine ganglion. The sphenopalatine ganglion is a
cluster of nerves, both sensory and sympathetic. This cluster lies above the roof of
the mouth. The sphenopalatine nerve is very sensitive to changes in temperature.
When something cold causes the sphenopalatine nerve to get cold, signals are sent
to the other nerves in the nerve cluster. The signals are warning the other nerves of
a massive freeze coming to the brain. The brain would never actually freeze from
the ice cream, but the sphenopalatine nerve does not know this. What does happen,
is that the blood vessels leading into the brain shrink because of the cold. The nerves

Pain also comes from receptors in the outer covering of the brain, called meninges.
This pain was triggered from all of the expanding and contracting done by the
arteries and blood vessels. Most of the pain from the meninges happens around the
base of the brain, but sends pain signals through the trigeminal nerve. The
trigeminal nerve is the largest nerve in your head, and is in control of all feeling in
you face. The overall pain is caused by the meninges, the trigeminal nerve, and
cranial pressure. Brain freezes are unique because the pain originates on the hard
palate, but is transferred throughout the brain. The only way to stop a brain freeze,
is by constricting the size of the anterior cerebral artery, along with any other blood
vessels that dilated to get more blood into the brain. To constrict the artery, you can
place your tongue on the roof of your mouth. It warms the nerves, and the messages
to get more blood into the brain stop. Scientists say that brain freeze is not harmful in
any way to the brain. In fact, sometimes doctors even cool down the brain during

Pablo Picasso Guernica vs. Theodore Gericault s Raft of...
For centuries artists have moved audiences through the use of pictures. As time
progressed those images became more and more demanding of the viewer until
they were meant to invoke a physical response. Perhaps the earliest account of such
emotionally exact artwork is the 1818 piece, Raft of the Medusa, by Theodore
Gericault. As time progressed people became more politically aware and involved
and generations of art portrayed this. Pablo Picassos Guernica, created in 1937, is a
great example of how modern times soon saw a peak in the occurrence of allegorical
and politically packed artworks. Gericault s The Raft of the Medusaand Picasso s
Guernica are both horrifying accounts of the nature of men that aimed to alter a

This predominantly two toned color motif allowed for more focus to be drawn to the
most dynamic figures, which are the same humans Gericault wanted viewers to see
and sympathize for.
While Gericault s, Raft of the Medusa was essentially criticized for its lack of direct
criticism of the event and more a display of the human element, it is this feature that
made it characteristically romantic. Gericault took the national scandal out of the
papers and turned it into a personal event for each of the passengers. Rather than
depict the weltering bodies of the crew, he gave them more muscular frames in
vigorous poses. Originally setting out to portray the event as nothing more than a
visual truth, he shifted his focus to portray a greater truth of suffering.
The suffering is reflected in the face of every passenger and it is the main focus of the
piece than any other element. The Raft s theme of human suffering evoked empathy
and compassion, which helped project the image beyond any hopes the artist could
have held for the piece. This predominant focus on the human condition allowed a
stereotypical Romantic piece. Another artist famous for highlighting the human
condition was Spanish born, Pablo Picasso.
In 1936 the Spanish government commissioned Picasso to paint a feature piece for
their international exposition in Paris at the peak of World War II. Picasso was
unsure of what to paint until in 1937 when Nazi warplanes bombed the Spanish town

The Technology Of Smart Medical Technologies
The Internet of Things is a is a term used to describe the interconnectivity of many
devices which are able to dynamically interact with one another, and through the use
of sensors, are able to achieve user programmed goals autonomously or remotely. This
interconnectivity is a relatively recent development that is expanding rapidly as it is
predicted to be the largest device market in the world, by 2019, doubling the
smartphone market (Greenough, 2014). Major developments in the internet of things
can be seen presently in smart medical technologies, smart home systems and
transportsystem advancements; all of which are a result of robotic systems and
sensors. The possibilities that arise from the integration of wirelessconnectivity
between devices are extensive, however the danger associated with reliance on these
products must assess how easily they can be hacked or used maliciously; as an
organisation s security and safety could rely on the IoT system
The field of smart medical technologies has been revolutionised since the
development of remote surgical equipment, and sensors prescribed to patients that
autonomously monitor and alter bodily activity. For example, pacemakers that can
operate over a wireless network have been in use since 2009, and the possibilities of
their usefulness is unchallenged, being able to address any inconsistencies in heart
cycles and alert medical attention where necessary; however, should such a device be
hacked, the outcome could be fatal
Code Of Military And Military Justice
The Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) is the basis of the military legal
system ( Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), 2014). In the UCMJ there are
many articles that list the procedure for punishments and court system ( Uniform
Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), 2014). The UCMJ applies to active members
who are in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps (NOAA), and
Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (PHS) ( About В« UCMJ United

Invisibility Of The Oppressed Group Analysis
There are four central elements that are prevalent in all forms of oppression, each of
these elements are complimentary of one another and helps perpetuate the existence
of oppression. (Pharr, 1988). Invisibility of the oppressed group occurs when those in
power omit or distort the past and current accomplishments of the oppressed group.
This practice of invisibility occurs through television, movies, and educational books
which omit or rewrite historical actions and achievements of minority groups. This
reinforces the idea the societal norm is the majority, and those who do not fall within
this category are nonexistent, or have not made any positive contributions to society.

Molly Cyrus Analysis
The song Molly Cyrus by Stitches is a popular rap song among college students. I
am a big fan of rap music and Stitches is one of my favorite rappers along with
Kanye West and Gucci Mane. Normally I would not listen to a song that is so
explicit, but I literally cannot escape this song. Molly Cyrus is played at every frat
party and always comes on when I am riding with my friends in the car. After
reading the prompt for this assignment I thought I would take a closer look at the
lyrics in this vulgar song.
In the song, Stitches talks about how if he was given the opportunity to have sex
with any pop star he would choose Miley Cyrus. This song also advocates for the
use of drugs like MDMA and Cocaine. Stitches literally says I love cocaine cause it
got me feelin like I m Superman . The way that Stitches administers his drug is ...

You would think that girls would condemn this song, but most of the girls I know
have this song on their spotify playlist. This song degrades women and explicitly
promotes rape culture. This song does not say anything about Miley s looks or
personality, it reduced Miley to a piece of ass that Stitches is welcome to penetrate
whenever he pleases. Stitches literally says Ima put my d*** up in your ass and it
ain t coming out . So how could so many people like a song that is literally about
raping a celebrity? Normalizing this disgusting behavior contributes to violence
against women.
College age women are the most likely demographic to be sexually assaulted so it
is really upsetting to me that women sing and dance along to a song that promotes
rape. The song Molly Cyrus does not show women in a positive light and promotes
sexual violence. After listening closely to the lyrics I will ask people to turn off this
vulgar song next time I hear someone play it because this song will only negatively

Meaning Of Medieval Feudals
Medieval Vassals
Medieval Vassals (Intro)
During the medieval period, kings ruled large areas of land. In order to protect these
lands from invasion, the king would give portions of their lands to the local lords
which were called the Vassals. They governed the lands granted to them by the king
and promised to defend it against conquerors.
Medieval Vassals Definition
Medieval vassals was believed to have been derived from the Latin word vassallus
and the Roman word vassus, which means servant. However, it was also said to have
originated from the Celtic and Welsh term gwas which means a young male feudal
tenant.
In the feudal system, Medieval Vassals by definition were people granted the use of
a King s land in return for their services, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term vassal originally emerged during the medieval era of the middle ages as
the feudal system was established in England in 1066 after the rest of the country
was claimed by William, The Conqueror.
Medieval Vassals History
The first vassals during the medieval period came from England and were appointed
right after the Norman Conquest. When William the Conqueror invaded the country,
all estates that belonged to England were declared as his property. And to give honor
to the Normal soldiers who fought with him during the conquest, he awarded majority
of the lands to them.
After William gained control, the Norman soldier who became and were declared
Lords of these lands began to rule with him. Noble men became Lords and lower
military officers became vassals. The idea of awarding the lands to the Lords
basically was to assist the new ruler in protecting the kingdom from invasion as each
Lord was in charged of protecting his own land.
The Medieval Vassals Land
The medieval vassal lands varied in size. The average size of these land, known as
fief, were as small as 1200 acres and as big as 1800 acres. Most of the feudal lands
consisted of farm and cultural lands. Meanwhile, the vassals either lived in castles of
the lords or they owned their own

Behavior Conditioning
The introduction of classical conditioning occurred in the early twentieth century
when Ivan Pavlov performed his famous dog salivation experiment. Everyone at
the time was aware that a dog would salivate at the sight or smell of a juicy treat
and that it would shudder and recoil in disgust at a food it dislikes. Utilizing this
known concept, Pavlov accompanied the delicious taste of meat powder with the
ringing of the bell whenever the dog ate its treat. The trial was repeated numerous
times until the dog would salivate to the ringing of the bell alone (Morgan). Pavlov s
discovery of conditioning has served as the basis for many debated and criticized
physiological experiments that progressed the medical industry. Through the industry

Critics have argued that utilizing behavior conditioning within therapy served as an
attempt to assert unwanted goals on unwilling patients. Therapists involved in
behavior conditioning have also been criticized for imposing the demands of
society onto minority patients, such as prisoners, the disabled and mentally ill (
Behavior Modification Therapies ). Whether behavior conditioning is ethically
sound or not depends on its quantity of usage and the concentration of power. Today
s societal standards bounds modern therapists and limits the practice s concentration
of power and usage. With low rates of therapy and absence of corruption, behavior
conditioning can serve as beneficial form of therapy to both the patient and society
as reactions to stressors are reduced and medical industries advance. However, with
little regulation, conditioning can serve as a major threat not only to individuality,
but democracy, as exemplified in Huxley s Brave New World. The determination of
behavioral conditioning s ethics is imprecise for lack of implementation in society

Al Qaed Terrorist Groups Essay
Founded by Osama bin Laden around the late 1980 s, one of the largest, most
terrifying, terrorist groups known worldwide is the Islamist organization, Al Qaeda.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations, Jayshree Bajoria and Greg Bruno
examine Al Qaeda as an international terrorist network that seeks to free Muslim
countries of profane influence, and replace governments with fundamentalist Islamic
regimes. Originating back to around 1988, Al Qaeda grew out of a Service Office,
run by Osama bin Laden and Abdullah Azzam. The Services Office would recruit
international Muslims from more than fifty countries, training, and financing them
into foreign mujahedeen and holy warriors. Although Al Qaeda does not operate at a
single headquarters, the bases of all operations are constructed either within
Afghanistan, Pakistan or along the boarder (par. 2, 3, 4). Known as one of the most
notorious terrorist groups in the world, Al Qaeda is considered a terrorist group
because of their ideologues and goals, along with their extreme use of violence.
Forming as an effort to support Muslims against the Soviets in the Afghanistan war,
developed a strong hatred towards non Islamic governments. As a growing
organization, Al Qaeda maintained officers in countries including Pakistan,
Afghanistan and the United States. The FBI s Testimony on Al Qaeda presented by
J.T Caruso reveals that US citizens were recruited through the Western world to

Frontal Lobe Analysis
Every single memory, feeling, movement, ability and action has always started and
ended in the same place: the brain. Everyday movements like breathing, yawning, or
even reading would not be possible without the brain. It holds the everyday life of a
human. Even though the brain holds eight major parts, each part contains its own
special abilities to contribute to the actions a body is able to do, from the simplest
movements to the most complex thoughts. Each and every braincontains all of the
same components: neurons, nerve cells, synapses, astrocytes, and individual sections,
mapped out like continents on a globe. Neurons, cells that collect information from

The function of the cerebral cortex can be understood by dividing it... into zones,
much like the geographical arrangement of continents (BrainFacts. org, 2012). One
of the divided zones is the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is in charge of initiating
and coordination of motor movements, like thinking, planning and organizing. The
parietal lobe, which is located in the top back part of your brain, is involved with
the sensory processes, attention, and understanding of language. If damage were to
be applied to this lobe, there could be severe consequences; damage to the left side
would impair the ability to understand spoken or written language, while damage to
the right side would result in difficulty navigating spaces. The back of the brain holds
the occipital lobe. This lobe is what processes the visual information received through
the eyes and helps to identify shapes and colors seen. The last lobe of the brain is the
temporal lobe. It is what processes auditory information given. The temporal lobe
combines the information from the other senses. In the temporal lobe, emotional
responses go through the amygdala, the mass of gray matter inside the left and right
hemisphere. The brain is selective when it processes the moments that come through
one of our senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. It then sends the experience to
the correct part of the brain which then sends out the appropriate reaction to the sense

research would be futile. I would suggest him looking at his data more closely.
Observation is a critical process and maybe he should become more observant. He

appropriate sources will he be able to find the route cause. Earl also has state it was

children are more susceptible to food poisoning. Earl continues to observe by
naming the different foods that were consumed and that everybody ate something.
He states that within 24 hour that several people displayed symptoms of food
poisoning. There were 30 people who became ill. Later, his hypotheses are either
the potato salad or that the under cook hamburger has contributed to food poison at
the picnic. At this time he has not run any experiments to ensure what made the
people sick and even if he did I can t imagine him able to conducting the appropriate
test. He will have to collect credible and reliable information in the next process.

The Consequences of Bringing the Past with You Immediately into Tim O Brien s
short story The Things They Carried the reader is introduced to First Lieutenant
Jimmy Cross and the letters he carried from his past back home. Throughout the
story, readers are also introduced to other items and supplies which were largely
determined by necessity (O Brien 1) as well as items deemed a luxury that each
individual soldier carried with him for one reason or another. Pictures,
memorabilia, and personal items all acted as a gateway into a portal which would
bring them back home to the ones they loved if only for five minutes at a time.
Although the pictures, memorabilia and personal items of Cross and his soldiers
alike, helped them recall back to an era much more peaceful, the consequences of
bringing the past with you can carry exceedingly negative side effects.
Within the short story, the audience learns that Jimmy Cross carries letters and
pictures from his crush from back home, Martha. Multiple times within the story
Jimmy Cross consults these pictures and letters to distract himself from the war
providing a bit of comfort in his harsh environment. With progression through the
story, readers find Jimmy Cross continuously reviewing the pictures and letters from
his dear Martha, letting his mind drift off thinking about her, distracting him from his
duties at hand. These distractions happen more and more often, eventually leading to
the most harrowing consequence. First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross s divergence from
his important tasks at hand, result in Ted Lavender being killed while under the
supervision of Cross himself. This being the key turning point for Cross, as he
starts to realize his lapse in judgment and focus, had directly cost the life of one of
his soldiers. This resulting in him discovering that the pictures and letters from
Martha, he was using as hope for his future back home, and comfort from the issues
at hand, were the stemming source of all his problems and distractions, which
ultimately cost the life of his soldier. Because of this realization, Cross burns the
pictures and letters from Martha, which he was holding onto in hopes that she
Similarities Between The Wanderer And The Dream Of The
Rood
Comitatus in The Wanderer and The Dream of the Rood The Wanderer and The
Dream of the Rood are two Old English poems that demonstrate the link between lord
and thane. This bond, also known as the comitatus, is highlighted with imagery to
effectively portray the physical intimacy involved. The idea that everything is fleeting
is emphasized to show the significance of the comitatus. Furthermore, the beauty of
the relationship is shown by contrasting the shame that the Wandererfeels at the end of
the poem to the honour and glory that is thrown upon the crossafter it willingly
suffers along with Christ. In all, the ideals of the comitatus during the Medieval
Times are clearly advocated through the illustration of the physical intimacy, shame
and honour involved in the two poems. To start off, the two poems of interest both
share the central idea that everything in life is fleeting. The Wanderer is a lament
on the lost ways of life. The Wanderer thinks back to the times he was free from
exile. He nostalgically compares his life then to the one he has now and comes to
realize how quickly the time has gone by. From lines 73 to 77, it says The wise
man must realize how ghastly it will be when all the wealth of this world stands
waste, as now here and there throughout this middle earth walls stand blasted by the
wind, beaten by frost, the buildings crumpling. There is a lack of hope in this
passage. The idea that things that seem concrete are very temporary is emphasized

Business Casual Dress Code Of The Workplace
Business casual dress code in the workplace is becoming increasingly standard.
The effect on job performance has not been made aware of whether casual dress
has any effect at all. There are benefits to wearing casual clothing in the workplace,
such as good morale, open communication between managers and employees, and a
lack of cost to the employer (Gutierrez Freese, 1999, p. 35 36). It all depends on the
companies you work for and what they consider as business casualor if they meet with
the public on a daily basis will affect the dress code. Culture also plays a big factor
in the dress code at the companies. A dress code policy that may demand business
attire may affect the company especially if you are in an industry that has a casual
dress code. An employee should be able to come off as a professional without
having to dress like one (McPherson, 1997, p. 146). Business casual dress code
should be the norm for all organizations because it shows balance as a company as
well as setting certain guidelines to know what is appropriate for work. Also, it is
based on the nature of the business that you are in and this determines the norm for
the organizations. The trend of the casual dress has diverse origins. It is easy to
dress men on business casual, but women are more complicated when it comes to
what women prefer as business casual wear. If a business casual dress code exists,
employees will appreciate knowing the expectations from the company. Employees
Crime Affects Crime
My research question is How does committing crimes affect a person s physical health
and do different crimes affect physical health more or less? It is important to the
criminal justice system to determine how much crime actually affects the health of an
offender. Assuming that committing crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can
show negative side effects on the human body that can be physical or mental. By
identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one could potentially
deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there
currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the
potential to use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also
important to look at how different crimes affect the physical health of an offender.
For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may not cause as much stress as
robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain crimes could
lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress
crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes.
Although I could not find an article or experiment related to crime causing stress, I
found the opposite. Strain theory attempts to explain that stress causes crime. Agnew
s general strain theory is considered to be one of the most accurate theories in
explaining crime. He argued that the stresses from the
Kidneys Filter Our Blood
Kidneys work rapidly throughout the day filtering out the toxic wastes that go
through the body. The kidneys filter about 180 liters of blood per day. That is three
liters getting filtered 60 times per day. But my question is does having diabetes and
hypertension affect the filtration rate in the kidneys?
In the body the kidneys perform the task of filtering out the toxic wastes from the
bloodstream and then returning the clean blood back into the body for reabsorption.
According to the University of Michigan The kidneys perform the essential function
of removing waste products from the blood and regulating the water fluid levels. The
kidneys will collect toxic blood from the renal artery, and from there the blood enters
through a passageway of nephrons where the toxins are cycled out through a series of
structures.
The blood will first enter into the Bowman s Capsule. The Bowman s Capsule is an
expansion of a closed end to a renal tubule found in the cortex. Kent M. Van De
Graff studies showed that In the Bowman s Capsule the blood gets filtered through
however; it only lets smaller particles through. Particles as big as red blood cells or
that have a molecular mass greater than 69,000 can not travel through the Bowmans
Capsule and get reabsorbed into the bloodstream. From there the toxins and blood
travel into the proximal tubule. In the proximal convoluted tubule that we reabsorb
most of the materials that we need to reabsorb from the filtrate. The reabsorption of

Although heavy and brittle, hardened clay and glass were used for storage. Some
natural substances were sticky and moldable. Rubber wasn t very useful for storage
because it eventually lost its ability to leap back into shape and became sticky when

plastic materials to the use of chemically modified, natural materials and finally to
completely synthetic molecules. Early plastics were bio derived materials, which
are organic polymers. In 1600 BC, Mesoamericans used natural rubber for balls,
bands, and figurines. In 1839, Charles Goodyear discovered a process in which
sulfur reacted with crude rubber when heated and then cooled. The rubber became
resilient upon cooling, it could stretch, but it snapped back to its original shape. It
also retained its flexibility when heated. We now know that the sulfur forms chemical
bonds between adjacent rubber polymer strands. The bonds cross link the polymer
strands, allowing them to go back to normal when stretched. Goodyear had
discovered the process now known as vulcanization, which made rubber more

Skinny Definition
One of the worst things about growing up is watching the young kids age, learning
misleading morals. From a young age, kids begin to become body shamed, if they
aren t considered thin. Kids will come up to adults asking why they are fat. How
can children learn to hate themselves from such a young age. There is word that
everyone wishes to be. One word that can make or break a young child s heart.
That one word that can keep people up at night and past the breaking to the point of
starvation. That word is merely, skinny. Skinny is much more than a so called ideal
body type . In fact, the original definition of skinny doesn t have anything to do with
body types at all. The first well known meaning of this was during World War II, there

Argos is being threatened by Hades, it is up to a hero, by the name of Perseus, to

was a natural born hero, utimately King Acrisus was killed by Perseusby a discus at
an athletic competition by accident. Many simitaliriteies and differneces were found

Last month, the foreign language department in Solano Community College
hosted a foreign language night. All the Spanish and French classes had
participated and presented a song or skit in their language. In my case, I
participated in the Français 1 class s Défilé de mode . For our skit, the
DГ©filГ© de mode was divided into 4 categories or collections such as: collection

Their skit was extremely fun to watch and I want to accomplish that much fluency
in French. Meanwhile, Français 2 sang the Hokey Pokey in French and made us
dance. I like that they engaged the audience in their performance. Throughout the
show, the hosts asked trivia questions about Spanish and French speaking
countries. First, What is Dijon, France was known for? with the answer: Dijon
mustard . Next, What famous river flowed through Paris? with the answer: the
Seine . Next, Which French queen said, Let them eat cake! ? with the answer of
Marie Antoinette however I remember that historians had said this was not true.
Lastly, What was the biggest port in France? and the answer was Marseille . On
the other hand, the Spanish classes had sung many Spanish songs and I asked
Emmanuel what the songs were saying since he spoke Spanish fluently. I really
liked the guy who played the electric guitar and sang in Spanish solo. His
performance was great! It was also fun dancing the Macarena and try to sing along
to Vivir mi vida . Unfortunately, most of the food was already gone when I went
into the cafeteria but I did get a chance to get coffee and a
A Farewell Of Arms, By Ernest Hemingway
Major events throughout history have resulted from human desire for fulfillment by
instituting war, preaching religion, and glorifying love. In A Farewell to Arms,
Ernest Hemingway introduces Frederic Henry, an American in the Italian Army
during World War I. Frederic Henry s attempts to find his meaning in life, are
represented by his attempts to discover the possibilities in war, religion, and love. He
does this through his friendship with a Catholic priest, his intense love affair with
nurse Catherine Barkley, who ends up pregnant with his child and eventually dies
during labor, along with their child, and finally with his position as Lieutenant during
the war. Throughout A Farewell to Arms
, Ernest Hemingwayrepeatedly mentions
games in war, love, and religion, to illustrate his belief that humans use these as a
way to play with and hopefully reach fulfillment but also use them as a distraction
from the inevitable ending: death.
Hemingway s repeated allusions to games in war, and his portrayal of Henry s
attitude about war from beginning to end of the novel shift dramatically; illustrating
that war is used as a tool or a game by humans to enrich their lives and avoid death,
while systematically stealing the lives of others. From disinterest, to realization, and
finally reflection, Henry experiences diverse changes in his ideals concerning war. At
first Henry decides that I would not be killed... It did not have anything to do with me

Exploring the Main Concepts of Advertising
How many of you listened to the radio, watched television, or glanced at a
magazine before school this morning? Whether you realized it or not the minute
you pressed the power button or flipped the cover page you were exposed to some
sort of advertisement. Defined as any paid form of communication by an identified
sponsor, advertising dominates a huge part of our daily lives. Living in such a
consumer driven economy means that we deal with subliminal and up front
messages pushing us to buy, buy, buy , countless times throughout our day. Most of
these messages are sent by identified sponsors including major corporations like Wal
Mart, as well as smaller run businesses. No matter the size, all modern day
businesses employ workers to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The success of these advertisements must be measured. Marketers often conduct
surveys and questionnaires to pull information about their products from the
marketplace. Information gathered like this for a specific purpose is known as
primary research. Marketers can draw a lot of valuable knowledge from primary
research. Such as images and ideas consumers associate with certain brands, a concept
known as brand image. Primary research also evaluates levels consumer satisfaction.
Following a product purchase, the buyer experience either satisfaction with their
decision or cognitive dissonance, when one regrets their recent purchase. This regret
often corresponds with the amount of involvement and thought put into a purchase.
As a consumer, you most likely think less about buying a bag of Cheetos versus
buying a new IPod. When it comes to Cheetos you know what you re getting, not
much variation involved. However, an iPod offers multiple opportunities for
customization and upgrades that the consumer must carefully consider relative to the
price they are willing to pay. In this sense, buying Cheetos requires far less consumer
purchase involvement then the purchase of a new iPod. All of these factors
contribute to the overall satisfaction associated with a product. The results of
conducted primary research help marketers decipher elements of their advertising
strategy that need tweaking. Essentially, the advertising
Saving The Environment Essay
When I imagine the world, I imagine a world with blue skies, green grass and trees,
crystal water and fresh air. This sounds pretty good, moreover imagine a world
where the skies are gone, where trees become scarce and the water is a bonus that
just limited people can have it. Where the jungles and the animal species were only
part of the history. Imagine a world where all people needs to wear protection like
anti pollutions masks to breathe and special clothes to protect their skin against the
UV rays. A world where the planet earth temperature can increase at extremely
levels that is impossible to bear for walk or play. In this time, we cannot imagine a
world where all the natural resources are gone and consequently the human extension
is a reality. These toughs can be just imaginary, but what if they become real? Is it
possible that these thoughts really happened? Serious environmental problems are
happening at this time. These complications happen for one simple reason, people do
not pay attention about the importance of caring the environment and saving natural
resources for future generations. There is one activity that includes reusing
materials or products to save energy and raw materials, looks like a good solution
for all the environmental problems occurring in our planet. Since early ages, people
had been learning about the word recycle. Many people know the meaning and the
purpose of recycling. The real concern is that recycling is impractical for several
Essay on Images of Women in Sports
Images of Women in Sports
Over the years the perception of women in sport has changed considerably. In this
course we have viewed several films all dealing with the depiction of female athletes
in an attempt to gauge society s current perception of women in sport. I will briefly
summarize each film and the main themes of the films before providing a description
of the female athlete which I will infer from commonalities between the films.
The first film we watched was a documentary entitled, Dare to Compete; it provided a
brief history of women in film, focusing primarily on American women in sport from
the late 19th century to the present. From this film we gained a notion of where
women have been and how far we ve come in the ... Show more content on

The third film we watched was, Remember the Titans. Remember the Titans, traces
the racial integration of a Virginian high school football team in the 1960 s as well
as the racial integration of the high school. While this film is about a male football
team and women are minor characters within the film it shows how sport can unite
people from different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds
The fourth film we watched was, Girlfight; a film about a Latina who lives in the
ghetto and becomes a boxer. The protagonist s struggle to be taken seriously as a
female boxer, to find people who will train her and compete with her is one of the
major themes of this film. However, this film examines not only the protagonist s
role as an athlete, but her home life, love interest and inner turmoil as she learns to
control and focus her aggressive personality.
The fifth and final film we watched was, Love and Basketball, a film that primarily
traces the coming of age of a man and a woman, two childhood friends and
basketball fanatics who both pursue professional careers in basketball while
focusing primarily on the female protagonist. The main conflict in this film had less
to do with the female protagonist struggling for approval from her parents and
acceptance by society than any of the other films we ve seen in this class. Instead, it
dealt with the female protagonist s need to evaluate her priorities and decide what
she wanted and how to divide

Why The Government Should Receive Welfare
Most people think welfare recipients are jobless individuals that receive benefits
from the government but in fact they are required to be employed to receive welfare.
Welfare recipients may depend on the government to help make ends meet because
they may not have all their necessities met on their own. For this reason the
governmentshould provide programs that promote self sufficiency among welfare
recipients.
The purpose of welfare is to give financial support to the families in need. Welfare
reform can refer to the law passed in 1996 The Personal Responsibility and Work
Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) which generally are the changes in the
U.S welfare system over time (104 congress 110 193). The Personal Responsibility

Ideally not everyone can commit to welfare to work programs, but this doesn t
mean they deserve to fend for themselves. It only makes sense for families who
work to receive enough money to support themselves. Michele Gilman divulged
how stagnant the wages for lower income families are she wrote, American
workers are among the most productive in the world, but over the last 40 years the
bottom half of income earners have seen no income growth. As a result since
1973, worker productivity has grown . . . almost six times faster than wages
(Gilman 2018). Without raising the minimum wage there will be the same
problems for posterity in the U.S. Michelle also expresses the problems in wages
and how they affect housing she asserts, There are 11 million renter households
paying more than half their income on housing. And there is no county . . . in
America where a minimum wage worker can afford a two bedroom home. Still,
only 1 in 4 . . . eligible households receive any form of government housing
assistance (Gilman 2018). Housing cost steadily increase yet the amount wages that
are being paid out to the lower working class stays constant, if this continues the
basic necessities are going to become too unaffordable and more people are going to
need government assistance. It is also made evident that many not all people living in
poverty gain welfare
An Insight Into The Culture And The Employment Rate Of
Women
Abstract
This paper will give an insight into the cultures of Japan and Russia as evidence
showed that Japan has a low employment rate of women in senior management
whereas Russia has a higher rate.
The cultural insight will then be used to examine if there is any coherence between
the culture and the employment rate of women.
The paper will also include facts of each culture that play an important role in how
women can achieve to climb the corporate ladder and to sustain a position in senior
management.
Those facts will be analysed for similarities and differences in both Russia and Japan.
It will be examined if looking at cultural models will be enough to find the reason
behind the comparably high employment inequality in Japan. ... Show more content

This model is more based upon how human beings behave and interact with each
other.
The GLOBE study has asked 17000 Managers to give their opinion to the nine
different cultural dimensions that GLOBE consists of. This resulted in collecting
data on 61 world nations.
A brief summary taking each of the different cultural models into account will be
given at the end of each cultural examination.
Japan s culture
The island nation of Japan has a population of 126 million. With an HDI (Human
Development Index) of 0.901, the country is considered a highly developed
industrial nation and has a GDP per capita of $ 45,920.
Classification according to Hofstede
Japan scored 54 points on a scale of 0 100 in the power distance category, meaning
that they have a more hierarchical structure (unlike most of the other Asian
countries), which the Japanese consider as accurate. To prevent unilateral decision
making and the exercise of power in a company, the decision making processes
usually has to go through all hierarchical levels and requires final approval of the top
management layer.
Japan is a rather collectivist culture (46 points of 100), in which harmony and group
membership are important values. In particular, the company employees feel a strong
sense of loyalty, because more time is spent at work than at home with the family and
it symbolizes the center
Education for Homeless Students Essay example
Homeless families with children represent the fastest growing segment of the
homeless population; in fact, they constitute about 40 percent of all people who are
homeless (Stronge 7). In addition, the most recent estimate of homeless children and
youngsters by the United States Department of Education is 744,000 (Stronge 7).
These statistics are indeed quite frightening, and they go to show that children
constitute a large part of the homelessdilemma. The part of that dilemma that seems
most taxing is that of educating such homeless children. How can these kids become
active members of society if they are unable to receive a proper public education, the
same education that is provided for so many other kids under the Constitution?...

While at my on site orientation for tutoring at the Center for the Homeless in
downtown South Bend, the volunteer coordinator made a point of bringing up the
center s Montessori preschool program. It is very unique, and she was very proud of
it. She then went on to explain why the program is so important. She said that the
younger kids have the greatest chance of changing their ways. The earlier they start
turning their lives around, the better the chance that they will break old harmful
habits and start making new helpful ones.
In Judy Daniels article entitled Humanistic Interventions for Homeless Students:
Identifying and Reducing Barriers to Their Personal Development, the author is
successful in describing real life examples of the effects of homelessness on school
aged children. She starts out with the story of Angie, a high school student who lives
in a tent with her mother and two siblings. After being caught for fighting with her
classmates, Angie is sent to the counselor s office where she confesses her frustration
with her current living situation.

Essay On Animal Cruelty

  • 1. Essay On Animal Cruelty Writing an essay on the topic of animal cruelty is not without its challenges. The subject matter is inherently distressing, as it requires delving into the various forms of mistreatment that animals endure across different contexts. Addressing the emotional aspect while maintaining a balanced and informative tone poses a significant difficulty. It's crucial to strike a delicate balance between evoking empathy and presenting factual information without overwhelming the reader with graphic details. Moreover, research plays a pivotal role in crafting a compelling essay. The need to gather reliable data, statistics, and case studies to support arguments and shed light on the prevalence of animal cruelty demands time and dedication. This process involves exploring diverse sources, from academic journals to reputable news outlets, to ensure the essay is well-rounded and substantiated. Crafting a strong thesis statement is another challenge. The essay needs a clear and focused central idea that encapsulates the complexity of the issue without oversimplifying it. Developing a thesis that not only guides the essay but also provokes thought and discussion among readers is a demanding task. Organizing the essay's structure is yet another hurdle. The challenge lies in presenting information in a logical sequence that engages the reader from introduction to conclusion. Transitioning between paragraphs smoothly and ensuring a coherent flow of ideas while covering various aspects of animal cruelty requires careful planning and meticulous editing. Ultimately, addressing counterarguments is essential to strengthen the essay's overall credibility. Acknowledging differing perspectives and effectively refuting them demonstrates a nuanced understanding of the issue. However, it adds a layer of complexity, as it demands a thorough examination of opposing viewpoints and the development of persuasive counterarguments. In conclusion, writing an essay on animal cruelty involves navigating through emotionally charged content, conducting extensive research, formulating a strong thesis, organizing information coherently, and addressing counterarguments. It's a multifaceted process that requires both empathy and analytical skills to deliver a compelling and impactful piece. For those seeking assistance with such essays or similar tasks, there are resources available, including platforms like HelpWriting.net, where professional help can be sought for a variety of writing needs. • 2. Schizophrenia Genetic Testing According to the Mayo Clinic, Schizophrenia is a severe brain disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. Schizophrenia may result in some combination of hallucinations, delusions, and extremely disordered thinking and behavior. The mental illness can cause people to act against their will, and will cause great harm to the victim of such illness. According to the NIMH, Genetic tests for some rare diseases clearly tied to a specific, single gene, like cystic fibrosis, fragile X syndrome (a heritable cause of mental retardation), or sickle cell disease, give people definitive answers about their risk of getting these rare illnesses. The two sources show us that genetic testing can tell someone whether they have the risk of late... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the term genetic testing can convince people that all the results are valid, victims will take the results as the truth. A study by the University of California showed that all humans are naturally configured to hear details that they believe they need to hear. In this test, they used a decoding algorithm, and found something called the cocktail party effect, which meant that you picked out what you felt was needed to hear. Other tests came up with various concepts similar to the cocktail party effect, such as selective hearing, the Homer Simpson effect, etc. So, a legally obligated message about the inaccuracy of the test may not come out as clear to a victim as message saying that they have schizophrenia. The unreliability of the testing is not something that all victims will comprehend, and this may cause for some complications. Believing that you will have schizophrenia, and believing that someone you know will eventually have schizophrenia can cause for a lot of harm, especially if it isn t
  • 3. Port Maritime Security In the current war on terrorism the world is just beginning to realize exactly how far radicals are willing to go. From the 9/11 attacks, bombings, embassy raids and just fighting on the battlefield they have taken their fight everywhere they can. With that knowledge and some of the previous tactics used by them it can be safely assumed that one major target area would be ports, not only for attacks, but also for movement of their people and weapons into the U.S. The U.S. government has reason to believe that ports will be a target for terrorism in Port Maritime Security: Background and Issues for Congress in which John F. The authorities and security personnel at ports must always be ready for these kinds of events and have plans set up in order to either prevent these actions or minimize and control them should they
  • 4. German Left Wing Terrorists Prior to Germany s Autumn of Terror in 1977, concrete events lead the country down a path where a necessary political student movement transpired and very quickly turned the student group into a terrorist organization. Specifically, the attacks in May of 1972 launched the Red Army Factions crusade against the government and the public. Just like the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, by Bosnian Serb nationalists sparked World War I, the killing of a teenager, Benno Ohnesorg, by German police sparked a radical student movement that would change Germanyonce again. The death of Benno Ohnesorg was also a reminder of government sanctioned murders during World War II under Hitler, which was once again present in post war Germany. Moreover, individualism from youths inspired the idea of needing an opposition party so Germany does not keep bonds with old practices. The youths felt that conservatives needed to be pushed a side in order for the country to move forward. Deriving from the student protest movement in West Germany, the Red Army Factions attacks and juvenile reactions, during their first and second generational existence, ultimately led Germany to a third reign of terror giving even less credibility to the left wing radical group and their political ideology; further leading to the leaders suicidal, arguably homicidal, deaths. Although the RAF only had fifty official members, who were all privileged and well educated youths, hundreds

A major factors in Taoboa s success was Alibaba Groups better management of the trust factor involved in e commerce trading and better understanding of the local Chinese market. eBbay positioned its standard business model that was used in the United States and other countries. Taoboa, instead, established its own payment escrow service. With AliPay buyers paid into an escrow account that did not pay the seller until the buyer noted he had received the product; therefore, making the transaction thrust worthy since the money was in escrow until the transaction was completed (Deresky, 2010). Furthermore, Taoboa offered e mail and chat services between users unlike eBay, which concealed identities and only had an offline messaging system. Taoboa also advertised aggressively through websites and billboards in major population areas something eBay did not do. The final steps of defeat for eBay was when Taobao offered three years of free listings and when Taoboa launched its B2C services in 2006. Moreover Taoboa had a large list of

In 1979 China created a policy called the One Child Law which limits couples to only one child. Women who were pregnant and the government did not authorize it had to sustain an abortion. By 1982, charges of coercion against couples who had an unauthorized birth and a second child were heard, and punishment rather than incentives were being used to enforce the policy (Guo). However, China s efforts at population control have met with some success. The policy has been in effect for nearly thirty years. In that time, China has been able to successfully reduce the population rate; even though they are still the most populated country on the earth. Without the policy, officials estimate a population of 1.2 billion by 1986 and 1.5 billion by 1994 (Guo). Earlier this year studies show, China s population erratically increased in city parts of China where most civilians reside. The One Child Policy benefits society by reducing the chances of poverty rates and famine. It also enables families to fully concentrate on spending their resources on one child, such as furthering their education and ensuring health benefits (Milwertz 34). The policy also helps women concentrate on their education as well as careers, avoiding emphasis on staying home with their kids (Milwertz 34). • 11. Brain Freeze Research Paper MENU The scientific name for a brain freeze is sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia, meaning pain of the sphenopalatine ganglion. The sphenopalatine ganglion is a cluster of nerves, both sensory and sympathetic. This cluster lies above the roof of the mouth. The sphenopalatine nerve is very sensitive to changes in temperature. When something cold causes the sphenopalatine nerve to get cold, signals are sent to the other nerves in the nerve cluster. The signals are warning the other nerves of a massive freeze coming to the brain. The brain would never actually freeze from the ice cream, but the sphenopalatine nerve does not know this. The trigeminal nerve is the largest nerve in your head, and is in control of all feeling in you face. The overall pain is caused by the meninges, the trigeminal nerve, and cranial pressure. Brain freezes are unique because the pain originates on the hard palate, but is transferred throughout the brain. The only way to stop a brain freeze, is by constricting the size of the anterior cerebral artery, along with any other blood vessels that dilated to get more blood into the brain. To constrict the artery, you can place your tongue on the roof of your mouth. It warms the nerves, and the messages to get more blood into the brain stop. As time progressed those images became more and more demanding of the viewer until they were meant to invoke a physical response. Perhaps the earliest account of such emotionally exact artwork is the 1818 piece, Raft of the Medusa, by Theodore Gericault. As time progressed people became more politically aware and involved and generations of art portrayed this. Pablo Picassos Guernica, created in 1937, is a great example of how modern times soon saw a peak in the occurrence of allegorical and politically packed artworks. While Gericault s, Raft of the Medusa was essentially criticized for its lack of direct criticism of the event and more a display of the human element, it is this feature that made it characteristically romantic. Gericault took the national scandal out of the papers and turned it into a personal event for each of the passengers. Rather than depict the weltering bodies of the crew, he gave them more muscular frames in vigorous poses. Originally setting out to portray the event as nothing more than a visual truth, he shifted his focus to portray a greater truth of suffering. The suffering is reflected in the face of every passenger and it is the main focus of the piece than any other element. The Raft s theme of human suffering evoked empathy and compassion, which helped project the image beyond any hopes the artist could have held for the piece. This predominant focus on the human condition allowed a stereotypical Romantic piece. Another artist famous for highlighting the human condition was Spanish born, Pablo Picasso. In 1936 the Spanish government commissioned Picasso to paint a feature piece for their international exposition in Paris at the peak of World War II. Picasso was unsure of what to paint until in 1937 when Nazi warplanes bombed the Spanish town of

Multiple times within the story Jimmy Cross consults these pictures and letters to distract himself from the war providing a bit of comfort in his harsh environment. With progression through the story, readers find Jimmy Cross continuously reviewing the pictures and letters from his dear Martha, letting his mind drift off thinking about her, distracting him from his duties at hand. These distractions happen more and more often, eventually leading to the most harrowing consequence. First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross s divergence from his important tasks at hand, result in Ted Lavender being killed while under the supervision of Cross himself. This being the key turning point for Cross, as he starts to realize his lapse in judgment and focus, had directly cost the life of one of his soldiers. This resulting in him discovering that the pictures and letters from Martha, he was using as hope for his future back home, and comfort from the issues at hand, were the stemming source of all his problems and distractions, which ultimately cost the life of his soldier. Because of this realization, Cross burns the pictures and letters from Martha, which he was holding onto in hopes that she
  • 35. Similarities Between The Wanderer And The Dream Of The Rood Comitatus in The Wanderer and The Dream of the Rood The Wanderer and The Dream of the Rood are two Old English poems that demonstrate the link between lord and thane. This bond, also known as the comitatus, is highlighted with imagery to effectively portray the physical intimacy involved. The idea that everything is fleeting is emphasized to show the significance of the comitatus. Furthermore, the beauty of the relationship is shown by contrasting the shame that the Wandererfeels at the end of the poem to the honour and glory that is thrown upon the crossafter it willingly suffers along with Christ. In all, the ideals of the comitatus during the Medieval Times are clearly advocated through the illustration of the physical intimacy, shame and honour involved in the two poems. To start off, the two poems of interest both share the central idea that everything in life is fleeting. The Wanderer is a lament on the lost ways of life. The Wanderer thinks back to the times he was free from exile. He nostalgically compares his life then to the one he has now and comes to realize how quickly the time has gone by. From lines 73 to 77, it says The wise man must realize how ghastly it will be when all the wealth of this world stands waste, as now here and there throughout this middle earth walls stand blasted by the wind, beaten by frost, the buildings crumpling. There is a lack of hope in this passage. The idea that things that seem concrete are very temporary is emphasized when
  • 36. Business Casual Dress Code Of The Workplace Business casual dress code in the workplace is becoming increasingly standard. The effect on job performance has not been made aware of whether casual dress has any effect at all. There are benefits to wearing casual clothing in the workplace, such as good morale, open communication between managers and employees, and a lack of cost to the employer (Gutierrez Freese, 1999, p. 35 36). It all depends on the companies you work for and what they consider as business casualor if they meet with the public on a daily basis will affect the dress code. Culture also plays a big factor in the dress code at the companies. A dress code policy that may demand business attire may affect the company especially if you are in an industry that has a casual dress code. An employee should be able to come off as a professional without having to dress like one (McPherson, 1997, p. 146). Business casual dress code should be the norm for all organizations because it shows balance as a company as well as setting certain guidelines to know what is appropriate for work. Also, it is based on the nature of the business that you are in and this determines the norm for the organizations. The trend of the casual dress has diverse origins. It is easy to dress men on business casual, but women are more complicated when it comes to what women prefer as business casual wear. If a business casual dress code exists, employees will appreciate knowing the expectations from the company. Employees
  • 37. Crime Affects Crime My research question is How does committing crimes affect a person s physical health and do different crimes affect physical health more or less? It is important to the criminal justice system to determine how much crime actually affects the health of an offender. Assuming that committing crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can show negative side effects on the human body that can be physical or mental. By identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one could potentially deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the potential to use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also important to look at how different crimes affect the physical health of an offender. For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may not cause as much stress as robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain crimes could lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes. Although I could not find an article or experiment related to crime causing stress, I found the opposite. Strain theory attempts to explain that stress causes crime. Agnew s general strain theory is considered to be one of the most accurate theories in explaining crime. He argued that the stresses from the
  • 38. Kidneys Filter Our Blood Kidneys work rapidly throughout the day filtering out the toxic wastes that go through the body. The kidneys filter about 180 liters of blood per day. That is three liters getting filtered 60 times per day. But my question is does having diabetes and hypertension affect the filtration rate in the kidneys? In the body the kidneys perform the task of filtering out the toxic wastes from the bloodstream and then returning the clean blood back into the body for reabsorption. According to the University of Michigan The kidneys perform the essential function of removing waste products from the blood and regulating the water fluid levels. The kidneys will collect toxic blood from the renal artery, and from there the blood enters through a passageway of nephrons where the toxins are cycled out through a series of structures. The blood will first enter into the Bowman s Capsule. The Bowman s Capsule is an expansion of a closed end to a renal tubule found in the cortex. Kent M. Van De Graff studies showed that In the Bowman s Capsule the blood gets filtered through however; it only lets smaller particles through. Particles as big as red blood cells or that have a molecular mass greater than 69,000 can not travel through the Bowmans Capsule and get reabsorbed into the bloodstream. From there the toxins and blood travel into the proximal tubule. In the proximal convoluted tubule that we reabsorb most of the materials that we need to reabsorb from the filtrate. The reabsorption of

The way plastics are manufactured has evolved from the use of natural plastic materials to the use of chemically modified, natural materials and finally to completely synthetic molecules. Early plastics were bio derived materials, which are organic polymers. In 1600 BC, Mesoamericans used natural rubber for balls, bands, and figurines. In 1839, Charles Goodyear discovered a process in which sulfur reacted with crude rubber when heated and then cooled. The rubber became resilient upon cooling, it could stretch, but it snapped back to its original shape. It also retained its flexibility when heated. We now know that the sulfur forms chemical bonds between adjacent rubber polymer strands. The bonds cross link the polymer strands, allowing them to go back to normal when stretched. Goodyear had discovered the process now known as vulcanization, which made rubber more

In A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway introduces Frederic Henry, an American in the Italian Army during World War I. Frederic Henry s attempts to find his meaning in life, are represented by his attempts to discover the possibilities in war, religion, and love. He does this through his friendship with a Catholic priest, his intense love affair with nurse Catherine Barkley, who ends up pregnant with his child and eventually dies during labor, along with their child, and finally with his position as Lieutenant during the war. Hemingway s repeated allusions to games in war, and his portrayal of Henry s attitude about war from beginning to end of the novel shift dramatically; illustrating that war is used as a tool or a game by humans to enrich their lives and avoid death, while systematically stealing the lives of others. Marketers often conduct surveys and questionnaires to pull information about their products from the marketplace. Information gathered like this for a specific purpose is known as primary research. Marketers can draw a lot of valuable knowledge from primary research. Such as images and ideas consumers associate with certain brands, a concept known as brand image. Primary research also evaluates levels consumer satisfaction. Following a product purchase, the buyer experience either satisfaction with their decision or cognitive dissonance, when one regrets their recent purchase. This regret often corresponds with the amount of involvement and thought put into a purchase. As a consumer, you most likely think less about buying a bag of Cheetos versus buying a new IPod. When it comes to Cheetos you know what you re getting, not much variation involved. However, an iPod offers multiple opportunities for customization and upgrades that the consumer must carefully consider relative to the price they are willing to pay. In this sense, buying Cheetos requires far less consumer purchase involvement then the purchase of a new iPod. All of these factors contribute to the overall satisfaction associated with a product. The results of conducted primary research help marketers decipher elements of their advertising strategy that need tweaking. Essentially, the advertising
