Essay Questions For Of Mice And Men
Crafting an essay on the specified topic poses a considerable challenge due to several factors.
Firstly, "Of Mice and Men" is a classic novel by John Steinbeck that delves into complex themes
such as friendship, dreams, and societal expectations during the Great Depression. Consequently,
navigating these intricate ideas requires a profound understanding of the novel, its characters,
and the historical context in which it is set.
Analyzing the essay questions for "Of Mice and Men" demands a meticulous examination of the
text to extract relevant quotes and examples. Moreover, the need for critical thinking to develop
insightful interpretations adds another layer of difficulty. Expressing one's thoughts coherently
while adhering to the conventions of essay writing further complicates the task.
Additionally, addressing the nuances of character relationships, symbolism, and social
commentary necessitates a deep engagement with literary analysis. Formulating a thesis
statement that encapsulates the essence of the essay and constructing a coherent argument to
support it requires not only a profound understanding of the novel but also a refined skill in
articulating ideas.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in avoiding common pitfalls such as summarizing the plot
excessively or providing a superficial analysis. Striking the right balance between textual
evidence and interpretation, while maintaining clarity and conciseness, adds another layer of
complexity to the essay-writing process.
In conclusion, composing an essay on essay questions for "Of Mice and Men" is undoubtedly a
demanding task that requires a combination of literary expertise, critical thinking, and effective
communication skills. The endeavor entails navigating through the intricacies of the novel and
crafting a compelling narrative that engages readers and provides valuable insights.

Australian Poetic Devices
The main poetic device that I used in my poem was imagery, mainly to create an
image in the audience s mind that Australia is the most perfect place in the world
and that it can t be compared to any other place in the world. Instances where this
happened were ... bright and radiant colours , deep sapphire sky and dark and
stormy clouds. Another poetic devise that I used quite a bit was symbolism the
beauty makes me wonder why this place is not completely white and pink because
white symbolises purity and peace, and pink symbolises beauty. The third poetic
device I used was alliteration which was used in The water shimmers in the stream,
silent, shimmering and stunning where the alliteration is on the letter s. The fourth
type of poetic
The Expulsion of Freedom
According to Jean Jacques Rousseau, human beings are bestowed with the blessings
of freedom during their individual genesis on this fruitful planet, but this natural
freedom is immensely circumscribed as it s exchanged for the civil liberties of the
State. He indicated that the supplanting of natural freedom is necessary for the
obtainment of greater power for the greater collective community, but the prospect of
obtaining superlative capabilities comes with the price of constraints. Yet this notion
of natural freedom conflicts with Thomas Hobbesrendition on the state of nature
because he illustrates that nature, interface through savagery. According to Hobbes,
mankind has endorsed and embraced natures temperament, because this system of...

The illusion of a free society with unbiased laws created by the collective and
ratified by the legislator, enables the society to have a sense of morality and perform
a ceremonial civic duty to uphold the laws they finance with commitment. Rousseau
states in the opening page that, Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains.
One thinks himself the master of others, and still remains a greater slave than they.
These chains that Rousseau refer to are the constraints that are strategically placed
on the freedom of the residents of the state. Since laws consult the public interest of
the people collectively and suppress the private interest of the individual, they are
essentially chains on the minds and souls of mankind, because people are used as
vessels by the state to fulfill its agenda, under the guise and illusion of individual
power to implement change in the collective.
The author of Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes eloquently emphasizes that the state of
nature is, in its rawest essence, chaotic and savage. In Chapter thirteen of his work
Leviathan, he depreciates man s role in the state of nature by saying, the life of man,
solitary, poore , nasty, brutish and short (pg. 186). From his perspective, due to the
fact that humans dwell in this catatonic state of destitution, humans naturally yearn
for peace. Hobbes suggest that through the formulation of Leviathan through a social
contract, achieving peace is a more
Nintendo Gamecube Research Papers
Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube came out in 2001 and since
then has gained a huge following in the realm of eSports. The game consists of
two players fighting for control over the stage. When your opponent hits you with a
move, your percent goes up by a specific amount and you are knocked back. The
next time you get hit, you get knocked back a little further. The object of the game is
to get the other player out of the box of the map. This basic concept produced a
grassroots community around the world that holds tournaments with anywhere from
a dozen players crowded around one CRT television to more recent grand scale
tournaments held in stadiums with thousands of entrants. As the community grew, it
was clear that a few players stood out from the rest. These players... Show more

However, all of this changed with one swedish player, William Leffen Hjelte.
Leffen is seen as the villain of the competitive smash scene, mainly due to his rude
and vulgar attitude in and out of the game, but also because he did what no other
player can do. Competitive smash was changed forever when Leffen took out
every god of melee and similarly when SFAT showed his major improvements in
2016. Leffen s first win over a god happened at Apex 2014 when he beat
Hungrybox, a Jigglypuff player who was ranked 5th in the world at the time. This
victory put the otherwise unknown Leffen on the radar of the smash scene and
began his journey to the top (Rogowski). The next god Leffen had his sights on
was Armada. Leffen, being a fellow swedish player, had faced off with him plenty
of times before but was never able to surmount the wall that is Armada; a player
that has not dropped a set to a non god in the last four years at the time. At the
european tournament, Beast 4, Leffen suffered an early loss to a player named Ice
that sent him into the loser s bracket. However, Leffen
The Federalists Vs. Anti Federalists
The prestige that America has acquired is an accomplishment that has been sought
after and pursued for centuries. America s success is due to its foundation from the
U.S. constitution, allowing a national government both with and for the people. Our
current constitution was made possible by federalists like John Jay, Alexander
Hamilton, James Madison, and their supporters. Their contributions to the
constitution are vital to the success that the Nation has attained. Without a moderate
central government, America would not have its impeccable mixture of power,
security, and freedom. If the Anti Federalist had trumped the fight over the
developing government, the United Statesof America would not be as successful and
independent as it is today due to interlinked factors such as unity, security, and
economic success.
The Federalists vs. Anti Federalists Before the construction of the current
constitution, many citizens named the Anti Federalists shared concerns on the new
founded America turning into the situation in which they just broke free from. They
feared the power of the people being diminished by the central government, leaving
them without secured rights, and returning to the same instance experienced in
England. In their time these worries were still fresh and strongly feared, and
rightfully so. Anti Federalists wanted to have a weak central government with the
power lying within each state, primarily so each state could regulate its own taxes,
thus, preventing the
The Chocolate War Analysis
You can put a band aid on a cut but nothing can heal your mind. Within The
Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, Archie Costello s psychological tactics of
violence are more useful than Emile Janza s physical tactics. Archie manipulates
the student body of Trinity with mind games such as the assignments. Meanwhile,
Emile is not very manipulative, he uses brutal and physically hurtful ways to get
to people. Archie is more effective of getting what he wants with using his tactics
of mind games, rather than Emile s brutal ways. Throughout Trinity, Archie
Costello makes the lives of the student body scarce. Part of this is his
psychological stratagems. With the assignments he comes up with, many of the
kids tend to fall apart, like Goober. When selling the chocolates, The Goober s
breath came fast. But otherwise he felt nothing. He willed himself to feel nothing.
He didn t feel rotten. He didn t feel like a traitor. He didn t feel small and cowardly.
And if he didn t feel all of these things, then why was he crying all the way to his
locker (Cormier 211). Goober is not selling the chocolates because he wants to stand
up for Jerry, but Archie stops this. He manipulates it and makes it seem as if Goober
had sold all of them, defeating Goober s purpose. With something as simple as this,
Goober is in emotional pain and much instability. Secondly, Archie even has a way to
effectively torture Janza. Throughout, Archie repeatedly tells Emile that he has an
inappropriate picture of him,
The Philadelphia Museum Of Art Museum
The Philadelphia Museum of Art was my first time to an art museum, and overall I
think it was a good experience. When I thought of an art museum, I thought it was
going to be all paintings. But as it turns out, that idea was wrong. There were lots
of other forms of art there as well. The exhibit that I enjoyed the most was the
International Pop exhibit. But there were also many other exhibits that I enjoyed
as well. Some of those include; European, American, Arms and Armor. All every
interesting exhibits that everyone should see. But those are not all, when going to
this museum, every exhibit should be looked at, all have very interesting things in
them. The International pop exhibit was one of my favorite out of all the exhibits.
The International Pop navigates a fast paced world packed with bold and thought
provoking imagery, revealing a vibrant period shaped by social, political, and
cultural changes . One piece of art that I found interesting was Still Life by Tom
Wesselmann, American, 1931 2004 . When looking at this piece if reminds me of
different time. This piece reminds me of other art works that I have seen with the
same kinds of things on it as well. Another work of art that I enjoyed was the 20th
/21st Century Tribute by AntГґnio Henrique Amaral , this painting makes the viewer
actually stop and look at it. There are many different parts to this painting too look at.
When walking through the museum, this was definitely something that catches ones
eye.

Uncertainty with defining the clinical attributes of Apraxia of Speech has been
debated in the literature dating back to 1960 s when Darley (1975) first introduced
the term Apraxia of Speech (AOS). However, the idea of a motor speech disorder
existing with preserved language skills and unimpaired muscular function was
originally introduced by Paul Broca in the 1800s (Broca, 1861). McNeil et.al, (2004)
defines AOS as a neurogenic communication disorder affecting the planning and
programming of speech movements in the absence of weakness, slowness, and
incoordination of the speech musculature. Apraxic speakers can properly select the
correct phonemes, but are unable to manipulate and sequence the structures necessary
for speech because the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Difference Between Semiotic Analysis And Ethnography
This literature review examines the dynamics of two qualitative methods of research:
semiotic analysis and ethnography. The interdependence of these two methods, or as
David Silverman (2011, p. 4) calls them models , of research will be further spoken
about in this essay which shall also go in depth on how the two methods have an
important role in shaping media and culture research and how they contribute to the
existing cultural production. Qualitative researchis one of the kinds of research
conducted to analyse content such as media texts and industries. The other is
quantitative research, which is more concerned with statistical and numerical data.
The former type of research mentioned above is the kind of research which provides

Its significance in the mainstream media is proof that even though the relationship
between the signifier and signified is arbitrary, in the whole process of socialisation,
the meaning of the text has ample weightage for it to be a whole subject to talk about
as well as use the meaning to conduct other researchers (Branston and Stafford, 2010,

Wiccans Goddess
Although some Wiccans focus on particular gods from particular world
mythologies, Wiccans may worship many gods and goddesses by many different
names. Most worship some form of the Great Goddess and Her consort, The Horned
God. Such duo theistic forces are often conceived as embodying complementary
polarities, not in opposition. In some traditions worship of the Goddess is
emphasized, although in others the Goddess and Godare seen as complementary co
equals. The Goddess and God may be seen as associated with certain things (such as
the Goddess with the earth or moon, God with sun and wildlife, etc.), but there are no
hard and fast rules. Some traditions worship the Goddess alone while others see
Divinity as essentially beyond human understanding,... Show more content on

Some Wiccans conceive deities as similar to thought forms.
According to current Gardnerian Wiccans, the exact names of the Goddess and God
of traditional Wicca remain an initiatory secret, and they are not given in Gardner s
books about witchcraft. However, the collection of Toronto Papers of Gardner s
writings has been investigated by American scholars such as Aidan Kelly, leading to
the suggestion that their names are Cernunnos and Aradia. These are the names used
in the prototype Book of Shadows known as Ye Bok of Ye Arte Magickal.
For most Wiccans, the Lord and Lady are seen as complementary polarities: male
and female, force and form, comprehending all in their union; the tension and
interplay between them is the basis of all creation, and this balance is seen in much
of nature. The God and Goddess are sometimes symbolized as the Sun and Moon,
and from her lunar associations the Goddess becomes a Triple Goddess with aspects
of Maiden , Mother and Crone corresponding to the Moon s waxing, full and waning
Different Cultures, Different Essay
Every society and culture has different ways of interpreting and defining occurrences
by the way their own culture or society functions. A society s culture, consists of
whatever it is one has to know or believe in order to operate in a manner acceptable to
its members (Geertz 242). The rituals, customs, ethics and morals that are attributed
to the cultureshave caused these differences. To understand how the people of one
culture interpret a situation or event, one must evaluate the attributesthat a culture has.
The criteria that an event is based on changes as one culture applies their own ideas
to the given situation. Heroism and violationare two concepts that are easily
misinterpreted depending on culture s ideals. Since cultures... Show more content on

What tripped Cohen up, and with him the whole, ancient pattern of social and
economic relationships within which he functioned, was a confusion of tongues.
(Geertz 241)
Geertz explains that the reason for the confusion, and the different interpretations of
the event that took place is a simple misunderstanding that when took place in
clashing cultures with different views, both striving to claim the situation in their
own contexts became a somewhat humorous event. This conflict between cultures
causes a view of a person to change depending on which point of reference they are
being seen from.
In Ernest Hemingway s Indian Camp, the conflict between cultures again cause a
difference of views of the father. The concept of heroism and violation becomes
the issue of conflict. The father or doctor is considered a hero or a violator of the
Indian woman depending on the culture viewing him. From the father s culture, he
is viewed as a hero for his actions at the Indian camp. His actions are viewed as
heroic under the circumstances of his procedure. Because of the culture of the
Indian people, having a white man, an outsider of the tribe, come in and operate on
an Indian woman is viewed as obscene and a violation of the woman not to

Holland s theory of personality and occupational types This theory suggests that
people can be characterised in terms of their resemblance to each of the six
personality types referred to as the modal personal orientations: Realistic,
Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional (RIASEC). When
people see the connection between themselves and the personality type, the more
likely they are to possess the traits and behaviours associated with that particular
personality type. Similarly, career and occupational environments can also be

Furthermore, while Holland suggests that people can be categorised as one of six
types, he also argues that a six category scheme built on the assumption that there
are only six kinds of people in the world is unacceptable on the strength of common
sense alone. But a six category scheme that allows a simple ordering of a person s
resemblance to each of the six models provides a possibility of 720 different
personality patterns. Four basic theoretical constructs Congruence: this refers to the
compatibility between a person s personality type and the environment. For example,
when an artistic person (dancer) works in an artistic environment (dance studio).
Consistency: this refers to the similarity among the personality types and the
environment. For example, a realistic person (caterer) working in an artistic
environment (a restaurant). There tends to be a similarity in these because caterers
have to be creative and come up with interesting food combination on the menu to
attract new and sustain old

My favourite scene with the 2 of them was near the end when there in concert
singing Ring of Fire . It s one of my favourite Johnny Cash songs and these 2
managed to convince me with this performance that they were actually John and
June. Without these 2 actors I don t think this movie would have been as remarkable
as they managed to make it.
One film that was very close to this one was last years highly famous, Ray . The
biography of blind musician ray Charles. Both are high profile motion pictures
about major recording stars who recently died (Cash passed away in 2003, four
months after the death of his wife, June Carter). The music the 2 of them play is
different, but there are very similar plot fundamentals, among which are drug use.
Walk the Line I think is a better film. It s put together with more style, and it never
seems to get boring, unlike Ray which near the end seems to drag on for a bit. Ray
had much more fantasy as opposed to Walk the Line which was all completely
based on Cash s own words. This movie also has a powerful plotline that Ray didn t,
a love story! To me, that s what made this film much better than Ray .
Overall I really enjoyed this movie; the only thing I want to complain about is the
lack of Bob Dylan. It is a known fact that Dylan single handedly revived Cash s
career, yet they only mention him a few times throughout the
Stereotyping Appalachian Culture In Robert Gipe s
Trampoline
On October 27, Robert Gipe gave a reading from his graphic novel, Trampoline. In
the introduction given by Marianne Worthington from the University of the
Cumberlands, she emphasized the importance of telling Appalachian stories for
themselves. After years of outside authors stereotyping Appalachian culture in their
work and these messages being spread, many authors in the region are beginning to
reclaim Appalachian stories, telling them for their real work. In fact, Worthington
even described Gipe as a protector of Appalachian culture and language. Another
important part of Gipe s graphic novel that Worthington emphasized was the
importance of the female narrator, Dawn Jewell, as one in the long tradition of
Appalachian female characters. In Gipe s reading, Dawn certainly has an
interesting home life and personality. Dawn s mother is a drug addict and her father
has also left the family. Dawn has a bitter tone and a dark sense of humor. This is
particularly seen in an example of her working in the copy shop... Show more content

I especially enjoyed the usage of colloquial language and slang words. As someone
who has family connections to the Appalachian region, I appreciated seeing it used
within the text of a novel. I do wish that during the presentation, the images drawn in
the book could have been displayed somehow. Especially with the emphasis on the
importance of the graphics in the story, I wish that I had could have seen them when
paired with the reading to understand what they contributed to Dawn s narrative. Gipe
was a very engaging reader because of the tone that he used to read from Dawn s
perspective. With his sarcasm and emphasis on the parts that were meant to be
humorous, I felt like I could better understand Dawn s character and her perspective
on the world. I enjoyed this reading of Trampoline and the opportunity to learn more

Activist Reform Case
A good and successful activist reform would result in the long term value creation for
the target company, which would benefit both the shareholders and the bondholders.
The activist reform would motivate management to achieve operating efficiencies,
which would improve cash flows and generate better returns for both the shareholders
and bondholders. In conclusion, I find the objections to the strategies of activists
raised by the managers of Commonwealth REIT and other companies in the article
vague. However, the managers need to distinguish between the activists looking for
short term profits and the activists looking for a long term value creation. The former
might destroy some value in the process so the managers need to fend off those
attacks.
It is management s fiduciary duty to maximize the stockholder value, and they
should act accordingly. If the company has extra cash they should return it to the
shareholders in form of either dividends or share repurchase. While it is wise to
hold on to cash to fund future acquisitions, pay off the debt, and have some financial
flexibility however managers like to accumulate as much as financial slack as
possible. The extra cash might also make the company a takeover target. ... Show

They want to use the extra cash for higher compensation, fund bad acquisitions,
invest in negative NPV projects, and acquire trophy assets, among others. The extra
cash would give the managers a cushion, as they won t have to operate firm
profitably as they would be less dependent on the external market for capital. Payouts
to the shareholders would reduce manager s power and they would incur the
monitoring of the outsiders (capital markets, activists, etc.). This managerial behavior
would cause agency dilemma as shareholders and managers will have conflicts of

Similarities Between Game Of Roses And War Of The Roses
A Marriage between Roses and Thrones
A marriage is usually perceived as two people in love and bind themselves together
with an unbreakable bond. However, in the medieval age, political marriages were
more often than a love between couples. Both the Wars of the Roses and HBO s
Game of Thrones, political marriages occur in order to lead to personal gain and
conduct strategic planning for one s kingdom. In HBO s Game of Thrones, a scene
from season 3, episode 5 shows Tywin, Tyrion, and Cersei discussing marriages in a
manner which exemplifies the significance of political marriages compared to the
Wars of the Roses, between Margaret of Anjou and Henry VI, especially through
close up shots, lighting, and sound. When watching the fifth episode of season 3 of
Game of Thrones, Tyrion, Tywin, and Cersei discuss how they can use marriages
so the Lannisters can secure the North and it can be done if Tyrion marries Sansa
Stark. This is comparable to Margaret of Anjou and Henry VI. Margaret of Anjou
marries Henry VI and thus as stated in The War of the Roses, Marrying Henry to
the French king s niece seemed to serve two greater purposes: it would bring
England a diplomatic and military truce in the French wars and it would enable
Henry and Margaret to rebuild the dwindling stock of the English royal family.
(Jones 84). As seen, the two of them getting married would give them exactly what
they need to get a truce between the two countries and kings. Similarly, if Tyrion

How Fidelity Drives The Odyssey
Fidelity is the crucial virtue in The Odyssey. Fidelity is what drives the story of
Odysseus s journey: it is both Odysseus s reason for returning home and the means
for him to get home. In the course of the story, Homer dramatizes the nature of
fidelity by contrasting different forms of fidelity and their opposites. This essay will
examine three forms of fidelity and the roles they play in Odysseus s journey.
The most noticeable form of fidelity is sexual fidelity, or faithfulness. Odysseus
loves his wife, Penelope, and he wants nothing more than to get back home to her;
and for him, the fullest expression of being back with her would be back in bed
with her. And yet Odysseus sleeps with a couple of other women during his
journey home, and he does so willingly. Describing Odysseus s last day with
Calypso, Homer says, And now, withdrawing into the cavern s deep recesses, in
each other s arms they lost themselves in love. (book 5, lines 250 251) What they
feel is love not just lust, or passion; that they lost themselves shows that they felt it
mutually. This is obviously Odysseus sleeping with Calypso willingly and enjoying
it. Later in the story, he is unfaithful to Penelope again when he sleeps with Circe:
Straightaway she began to swear the oath I required never, she d never do me

Toy Ovens And The Voluntary Recall Essay
On Tuesday, Hasbro issued a recall of approximately 985,000 Easy Bake Ovens.
The toy ovens in question have been sold since last may, and could cause hands or
fingers to become lodged in the opening of the ovens, posing a risk of burns or
entrapment. Of the voluntary recall, Hasbro explained on its site, Consumers
should immediately take the recalled oven away from children under 8 years of
age and contact the firm for a retrofit with warning. The Easy Bake Oven is an
electric toy, and is only recommended for children 8 years of age and older. The
specific ovens being recalled are pink and purple and made of plastic. They look
similar to kitchen range with a front opening and four top burners. The words Easy
Bake are printed on the front of the ovens. They each have the Hasbro name and
Model Number 65805 stamped into the plastic on the back of the items. The ovens
were sold for approximately $25 between May 2006 and February 2007. Retailers
who carry the ovens include Toys R Us, Wal Mart, Target, and KB Toys, among
others. Ovens sold before May 2006 are not included in this recall. The U.S.
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Hasbro, also
made the recall announcement on their site Tuesday. More than 15,000 types of
consumer products are under the jurisdiction of the CPSC. This agency exists to
protect the public from unreasonable risks of serious injury or death from such
products. The CPSC s work to ensure the safety of consumer
Censorship On The Internet
No one wants to be censored, but sometimes there has to be a limit for the greater
good. What kids are able to view and read on the internet must be protected until they
are old enough to handle the information that is available by the multitudes on the
internet. Parents should have the right or the ability to censor the information that
comes into their home. Civil libertarian groups advocate the protection of the
individual s freedoms from infringement by the government. These include things like
freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion, and a free press (South
University Online, 2016). However, when trying to maintain a vast array of
information such as on the internet, government support and intervention is
necessary. The internet is too large an entity to govern itself. Protecting citizens is a
responsibility of the government. Therefore, regulating the internet with laws and
policies to protect the children in our society, is a responsibility of the government....

I think it is more about protecting than censoring. Parents have always wanted to
protect what their kids are able to hear or see. Before the age of the internet,
parents only allowed certain television programs to be viewed by their children,
subsequently they would only allow their children to be in the company of people
that they felt were a good influence, or they flipped through a book before giving it
to their children. It is a parent s duty to be sure their kids are not being exposed to
information that could harm their perceptions of the world, or distort their views of

Body paragraph 3
What did all the women do during the war?
With half a million men away at war, leaving their day to day jobs, who replaced
the the workers? The women did. Women replaced the men s jobs such as
munitions factory workers, sewing bandages, and selling war bonds, shipyards
and spies. This is good because before the war women were unimportant and were
only aloud in the kitchen The only negative about the women working in the men s
jobs was they didn t get paid as much as the men. The number of women in the
workforce rose from 24% to 37%. This is close to 500,000 women to close to one
million women. This says that in the workforce, women rose in a total of 500,000.
Body paragraph 4
Why did all the immigrants settle to Australia?
With the already little population of 5 million Australian people and the loss of
300,000 men, this should have been a dark time, but to make up on that loss Australia
received 300,000 migrants. These Migrants came from Britain. As there was a large
amount of unemployment the British government encouraged the people of britain to
migrate to Australia. Also the

Figurative Language Versus Literal Language
In our society, words and what order those words fall in contribute to their
meaning. That s why it is very important to use words in the correct grammatical
order, correct context and exact language. The power of words affects our senses,
thinking, feelings creativity and the way we think. It is imperative that we must
understand the phrases and meanings of words before they can properly be used.
When language is shaped properly, it will assimilate into a culture. Since the English
language is rich and varied, it offers an array of choices when communicating. Here
are a few of those choices.
An idiom is a phrase that when spoken outside of a particular culture it seems
incomprehensible. This peculiar use of phrases is not taken ... Show more content on

These flame words are often vulgar terms or racially charged. It is never good to use
these words when speaking about an individual or group. Calling Law Enforcement
officers pigs is considered a flame word.
Hyperbole is simply a figure of speech that exaggerates. It is often used in our
culture to emphasize or express the importance of what happen when telling
information. I nearly died laughing, or I will wait an eternity are examples of a
hyperbole.
The thesaurus defines euphemism this way; an inoffensive or indirect expression that
is substituted for one that is considered offensive or too harsh. Collateral Damage,
Cougar and Kicking the bucket are all euphemisms. Euphemisms may be used to hide
unpleasant or disturbing ideas, even when the literal term for them is not necessarily
offensive. This type of euphemism is used in public relations and politics where the
information changes the context of information
A colloquialism can be called a slang term, although it isn t necessarily slang in a
negative sense. It often isn t rude to utter a colloquialism and may be specific to a
region, or fall into popular style based on a variety of factors. One such example is
the phrase What s up? In stead of saying Hello, or how are you, many individuals
simply say what s up. That colloquial phrase is understood. However you wouldn t
start a business letter or go to an interview and use that phrase. Part
Importance Of Teaching Reasoning And Proof
Teaching Reasoning and Proof
As educators and as students it is pivotal to emphasize the importance of reasoning
and proof in the classroom. By doing such, students will develop a higher level of
thinking not only in the classroom but in the real world as well. In secondary
education, it is only a short period of time until students are faced with complex
thinking that is not specific to any textbook. In education specifically students will
have to approach problems in different directions. This is something that takes a bit
of adjusting to if that student is not previously exposed to reasoning and proofs.
Very young students make conjectures all the time. It is one of the beauties of
preschool and kindergarten. At this stage of life, kids are very curious about most
subjects. In the case of geometry, a preschool student starts to recognize the
similarities of a square and a cube. They obviously may not be able to reason what
the volume of the cube is, but they start to recognize the similarities. This is a
tremendous aspect that shouldn t be looked over. It is important to continue and
develop these students and not let that curiosity diminish. That curiosity is the drive
in education. At this age, educators should focus on the basics of reasoning. There
aren t many formulas for these kids, they are just being exposed to the process. It
makes sense for the teachers to spend more time on the reasoning early; in return the
student s brains will start to develop those

environmental effects of plastic bottles and bottled beverages, encouraging
companies to alter their corporate practices. Jones Soda brand Beverage Company
has also seen a rise in the number of consumers who attempt to save money by
switching to bulk fresh juice. This is a blow to the company owing to its high

Jones Soda has been using as a sweetener for its soft drinks, has become more

Workforce Dress Codes
Dress codes change generally among districts and fields of occupation in America. A
Wall Street representative will wear a smart suit and shirt to work, while start up
workers in Silicon Valley may appear in shorts and shirt amid available time. Be
possibly overdressed rather than underdressed for your imminent representative

decisions, dependent upon how standard the association being alluded to is. If your
commitments incorporate individual contact with customers or clients, more formal
apparel is consistently anticipated. When you know the environment better, you may

The values of x and y determined the co coordinates of a number of points which
forms a curve, of which the equation f(x,y)=0 has a geometrical property.
Rene said that a point in a space could be determined by three co coordinates. Rene
pointed out the very important facts that two or more curves can be referred to one
and the same system of co coordinates, and that the points in which two curves
intersect can be determined by finding the roots common to their equations. Rene
wrote three Geometric books. The first two are about analytical geometry, and the
third is an analysis of algebra that was current then. Rene also paid particular attention
to the theory of tangents to curves. Back then the current definition of a tangent at a
point was a straight line through the point such that between it and the curve no other
straight line could be drawn, that is the straight line of closet contact.
Rene described his theory by giving the general rule for drawing tangents and
normals to a roulette. The method that Rene used to find the tangent or normal at any
point of a given curve was he determined the center and radius of a circle, which
should cut the curve in two consecutive points. The tangent to the circle at that point
will be the required tangent to the curve.

The Requirements Engineering Phase Within A Software...
The requirements engineering phase within a software project is a heavily
knowledge driven, collaborative process that typically involves the analysis and
creation of a large number of textual artifacts. We know that requirements engineering
has a large impact on the success of a project, semantic recommender support,
especially for stakeholders during requirementelicitation is still lacking.
This paper proposes an approach for recommendation systems that enable semantic
interoperability with content base filtering technique to manage stakeholders
requirements, avoiding analysts to receive incompatible requirements. This ensures
them that the received requirements are trusted, completed and compatible with each
other. This may prevent analysts from effort loads that they always get stacked in
during requirement elicitation process. The study incorporates ontology for
enhancing user profiles that are mapped to ontology concepts, and thus utilize
ontology relations to present more fine grain recommended concepts for enhancing
requirements.

Qualities of Sports Leaders
Qualities of sports leaders
The four different qualities I will be talking about are decision making, evaluation,
communication and also talking about managing a group. After I explained theses I
will then relate them to an effective sports leader.
An effective sports leader needs to make decisions in long term and short term
parts. They need to consider what to do and why. Making good decisions will come
through good experience of having to make big decisions either within a game or
outside. Decision making means a sports leader makes a choice of what to do to help
his own team out.

Effective management in your participants will result in getting the best out of them.
My sports leader I have suggested is Steven Gerrard. He has all these qualities and is
a very successful leader by being captain of Liverpool Football Club and also
England. Being this well known he must have a very good attitude and is looked
upon as a role model for many people. His decision making is brilliant as he makes
decisions to make key passes within games that lead his team to victory. He has
years of experience to know what decisions are needed to be made. As he is captain
for Liverpool he needs to evaluate each players performance and give them
feedback either when he can during a game or at the end of games. This will push
players on as he is seen as one of the best footballers in the world people will listen to
him. He has good communication levels as he talks to his team constantly to give
them advice either to say well done or mark players or even step up the game etc.
having this communication allows his team to have time to no what to do if they
have time on the ball. This is one of the most important qualities within football.
Every game and every training session he has to lead players and even manage
players abilities. When he s on the pitch he s managing his team by telling what to do
and making key passes etc.

Interracial Figures of the American Renaissance Essay
Interracial Figures of the American Renaissance
This essay examines Cora from The Last of the Mohicans, Frederick Douglass, and
Harriet Ann Jacobs. The American Renaissance marks a period of social injustice
and the fight of the minority to bring about social change. Women and African
Americans (who were freed or escaped from slavery) begin to gain a voice through
literacy, and use that voice to start the movement to abolish slavery and gain women
rights. The development of literacy makes it impossible to ignore women and
African Americans because their writing provides a permanent record of the horrors
of slavery and injustice of oppressing the minority groups. Furthermore, the gain in

The interracial figures of the American Renaissance are Cora from The Last of the
Mohicans, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Ann Jacobs.
In James Fenimore CooperГўs novel, The Last of the Mohicans, Cora represents the
intermingling of the races and the complexity that occurs due to her interracial
heritage. Her father, Colonel Munro, describes CoraГўs identity to Duncan in the
following lines:
There it was my lot to form a connexion with one who in a time became my wife,
and the mother of Cora. She was the daughter of a gentleman of those isles, by a
lady, whose misfortune it was, if you willВ·to be descended, remotely from that
unfortunate class, who are so basely enslaved to administer to the wants of a
luxurious people! (Cooper 159)
These lines reveal the secret behind CoraГўs true heritage. Albeit Cooper addresses
the issue of interracial relations, he still maintains an element of romanticism in that
CoraГўs mother comes from a foreign land and not a slave on a plantation that
Colonel Munro owned. The context this conversation occurs in provides insight into
the complications involved in CoraГўs ethnicity. Colonel Munro reveals CoraГўs
race after Duncan has asked for her younger, half sister AliceГўs hand in marriage.
Munro assumes that Duncan chooses Alice over Cora because he has figured out
that Cora is of mixed blood. In response to what Munro perceives as prejudice he
says, [a]nd you cast it on
Erving Goffman s Front Stage

play(drama) which has a never ending and it involves entities of actors, props,
writers etc. which involve scripts where individual acts. He further made us
understands that our socialization is full of learning how to play a role that has
been assigned from other people. In fact, he has brought to our understanding of a
life where people act and socialize which consist of our assigned role from other
people. Goffman believes that whatever we do, we are playing out some role on

It is an act that is done without conscious attention. In this era, one has to set a
standard where respect is earned in all things. When you raise your demeanor, E.
Goffman termed it as status, according to him there are three types of status and
these are the following: Ascribed status (One that you are assigned based on
biological factors such as race, sex, or age.) Achieved status (One that is earned
through an individual s own effort.) Master status (Status that has priority over all
other statuses and generally determines a person s overall position in society. The
most common master statuses are those based on gender and race.) According to
Goffman, we use various mechanisms, called sign vehicles, to present ourselves to
others. The most commonly employed sign vehicles are the following: Social
setting, appearance, the manner of interacting. The social setting is the physical
place where interaction occurs. It could be a doctor s examination room, a hallway,
someone s home, or a professor s office. How we arrange our spaces, and what we
put in them, conveys a lot of information about us. A person who lives in a large
home with security guards, attack dogs, and motion detectors conveys the message
that he or she is very important, wealthy, and powerful, and probably that uninvited
visitors should stay away. On the other hand, the owner of a house with no fence, lots
of lights, and a welcome mat would seem much more inviting
Christianity Is A Religion Based On The Person And God
There are over a billion people in the World who follow and support the Catholic
Church. Christianity is a religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of
Nazareth. Ever since Christianity started to emerge in the mid first century it has
only increased in size and became even more powerful now than in the origins of the
Religion. JesusChrist is considered to be the Son of Godand through the Bible s
scriptures that include many sacred writings of Christianityit has given people hope
and more importantly something to believe in. Faith is a huge part of any Religion
because that is when you put your complete trust or confidence in someone or
something. For Christians our faith is put into the Bible, believing in and
worshipping a supreme being, God, and a superhuman, Jesus Christ. The importance
to Christianity and to anyone s growth in Christian life can be seen through believing
in someone whether human or divine, God as three persons in one divine being,
genuine friendship, the sacraments, and Jesus Christ as the fullness of both divinity
and humanity. Although Christianity is not for everyone, there are thousands of
different kinds of Religion from which an individual can choose to follow. Even
though Christianity is one of the biggest Religions in the World there are just some
people who either don t believe in Christianity or have a hard time understanding it.
Being brought up as a Christian I have put my faith in God s hands as did my family
and many others.

Stress is tiring, irritable, and anxious; more importantly stress is transferrable

Theme and Symbolism in American Music Essay
Theme and Symbolism in American Music
Music defines our culture. As Americans, we listen to music while we drive our cars,
are at work, doing housework, studying, etc. We have songs for special occasions:
Christmas, Hanukah, birthdays, weddings, parties, etc. We have taken songs from the
various cultures that make us diverse: Arabic, German, Mexican, Native American,
etc. We have many genres: country, hip hop, rap, pop, blues, jazz, rock, heavy metal,
etc. And although we may think of music as simple and easy, looking at all this
makes one realize how diverse and complex our music truly is. Two things that
contribute to this diversity are theme and symbolism.
Theme can be defined as the subject or topic of something. In relation to ... Show

I love you, please say you love me too, she sings. I love you / I will be your light,
shining through your eyes. Still yet, we have Crazy in Love by Beyonce and Jay
Z, hip hop artists. Your love s got me looking so crazy right now, they sing/rap.
Looking so crazy in love. Despite the musical differences between all these artists, all
three songs/genres were able to give light to the theme of love. And even though the
theme may be the same, the music and words were not. So even though two songs
may have a theme that is similar, themes in music add diversity.
Symbolism in music can vary from the author s use of a word or phrase with
personal meaning or the author s use of a word or phrase to symbolize something
relative to a culture. Take for example the songs sung during slavery. According to
the CD Steal Away there are many symbols found in the music sung by the slaves.
For example, in the song Go Down Moses the slaves were able to sing about the
injustices of slavery right before their masters. Let my people go they would sing.
But since the song appears to be a reference to the biblical story, the owners would
allow it to be sung. In this song, the singers have personal symbols that another group
of people would not understand. Yet in popular music you will find symbols, such as
the rose, which have

The main aspects of Romantic literature focuses on emotions and the narrator s inner
world, celebrating nature, beauty and most importantly imagination. This literatic era
rejects everything that has to do with rationalism, religion or industrialization which
were very important in the 1800s, however, not liked much by literary figures. Many
poems which were written after the late 1700s reflect on the elements of romanticism.
The experimental language and the interest in nature, spiritual elements and free
mind shows through. Romanticism was not only a style in literature but a genre and
a movement which was a foundation to our modern world.

Hemans was a wife, a mother and an excellent poetess. As the typical theme for the
Romantic era Hemans also commented on the social structure and political
situations. Her famous poem Casabianca tells the (true) story of a young and brave
boy who suffered the consequences of the long war between England and France.
The story relates to an extraordinary incident of devotion and heroism witnessed
during the Battle of the Nile. Hemans looks into the human costs of this war and
summarizes it into an immensely emotional poem. This poem has many powerful
imagery which makes the reader empathic and passionate. On the other hand,
Romantic poetry was also full of nature scenes and landscapes, so is Casabianca .
This is what makes these poems so powerful, the strong portrayal of nature and the
representation of events. The poem starts with an imagery of the boy standing on the
burning deck near the battle:
The boy stood on the burning deck Whence all but he had fled;
The flame that lit the battle s wreck Shone round him o er the dead.
Hemans wrote how everyone else was gone except for the young and brave boy
who stand on his post, however, he was afraid and wanted to leave; he called out to
his father multiple times which makes the poem full of sentiment. His loud cries and
the imagery of the burning deck increases the nervous emotions in the reader.
Speak, father! once again he cried, If
Macroeconomic Unemployment
The State of the US economy on 07 15 14
This essay is based on the Federal Reserve Open Market (FOMC) statement
released on 07 15 14. The release describes the state of the economy in terms of the
following macroeconomic indicators: a progression towards maximum employment,
increased price stability, and rebounding growth of real gross domestic product. The
essay presents a discussion of the Federal Reserve s mandate and the state of the US
economy as of the month of the press release and the proposed policy actions. The
following two indicators employment and inflation are of particular interest in this
essay.

The personal consumption expenditures function has indicated a relatively stable
outlook on long term inflation stability. Both survey and market based measures of
longer term inflation expectation in the economy have stayed steady throughout the
first half of the year.
Inflation is primarily determined by monetary policy. The Committee has specified
the long run goal for inflation to be at two percent. This measure of inflation in the
economy is determined by the PCE index of personal expenditures. The Federal
Reserve s statutory mandate of a two percent long term goal of PCE inflation is
consistent with the ability of the committee to foster price stability and maximum
unemployment in the long run.
Inflation is significant in an economy as it in a large part relates to the price stability
within the U.S. If the inflation rate within the U.S is high, variable, or both, it can
greatly interfere with an economies ability to efficiently operate and, in turn, can
reduce or prolong economic growth. The Committee has specified the long run goal
for inflation to be at two percent. This measure of inflation in the economy is
determined by the PCE index of personal expenditures. The Federal Reserve s
statutory mandate of a two percent long term goal of PCE inflation is consistent with
the ability of the committee to foster price stability and maximum unemployment in
the long run.

Australian Poetic Devices The main poetic device that I used in my poem was imagery, mainly to create an image in the audience s mind that Australia is the most perfect place in the world and that it can t be compared to any other place in the world. Another poetic devise that I used quite a bit was symbolism the beauty makes me wonder why this place is not completely white and pink because white symbolises purity and peace, and pink symbolises beauty. The third poetic device I used was alliteration which was used in The water shimmers in the stream, silent, shimmering and stunning where the alliteration is on the letter s. • 4. The Expulsion of Freedom According to Jean Jacques Rousseau, human beings are bestowed with the blessings of freedom during their individual genesis on this fruitful planet, but this natural freedom is immensely circumscribed as it s exchanged for the civil liberties of the State. He indicated that the supplanting of natural freedom is necessary for the obtainment of greater power for the greater collective community, but the prospect of obtaining superlative capabilities comes with the price of constraints. Yet this notion of natural freedom conflicts with Thomas Hobbesrendition on the state of nature because he illustrates that nature, interface through savagery. The illusion of a free society with unbiased laws created by the collective and ratified by the legislator, enables the society to have a sense of morality and perform a ceremonial civic duty to uphold the laws they finance with commitment. Rousseau states in the opening page that, Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains. One thinks himself the master of others, and still remains a greater slave than they. These chains that Rousseau refer to are the constraints that are strategically placed on the freedom of the residents of the state. Since laws consult the public interest of the people collectively and suppress the private interest of the individual, they are essentially chains on the minds and souls of mankind, because people are used as vessels by the state to fulfill its agenda, under the guise and illusion of individual power to implement change in the collective. The author of Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes eloquently emphasizes that the state of nature is, in its rawest essence, chaotic and savage. In Chapter thirteen of his work Leviathan, he depreciates man s role in the state of nature by saying, the life of man, solitary, poore , nasty, brutish and short (pg. 186). From his perspective, due to the fact that humans dwell in this catatonic state of destitution, humans naturally yearn for peace. Hobbes suggest that through the formulation of Leviathan through a social contract, achieving peace is a more

The game consists of two players fighting for control over the stage. When your opponent hits you with a move, your percent goes up by a specific amount and you are knocked back. The next time you get hit, you get knocked back a little further. The object of the game is to get the other player out of the box of the map. This basic concept produced a grassroots community around the world that holds tournaments with anywhere from a dozen players crowded around one CRT television to more recent grand scale tournaments held in stadiums with thousands of entrants. However, all of this changed with one swedish player, William Leffen Hjelte. Leffen is seen as the villain of the competitive smash scene, mainly due to his rude and vulgar attitude in and out of the game, but also because he did what no other player can do. Competitive smash was changed forever when Leffen took out every god of melee and similarly when SFAT showed his major improvements in 2016. Leffen s first win over a god happened at Apex 2014 when he beat Hungrybox, a Jigglypuff player who was ranked 5th in the world at the time. This victory put the otherwise unknown Leffen on the radar of the smash scene and began his journey to the top (Rogowski). The next god Leffen had his sights on was Armada. Leffen, being a fellow swedish player, had faced off with him plenty of times before but was never able to surmount the wall that is Armada; a player that has not dropped a set to a non god in the last four years at the time. At the european tournament, Beast 4, Leffen suffered an early loss to a player named Ice that sent him into the loser s bracket. However, Leffen
  • 6. The Federalists Vs. Anti Federalists The prestige that America has acquired is an accomplishment that has been sought after and pursued for centuries. America s success is due to its foundation from the U.S. constitution, allowing a national government both with and for the people. Our current constitution was made possible by federalists like John Jay, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and their supporters. Their contributions to the constitution are vital to the success that the Nation has attained. Without a moderate central government, America would not have its impeccable mixture of power, security, and freedom. If the Anti Federalist had trumped the fight over the developing government, the United Statesof America would not be as successful and independent as it is today due to interlinked factors such as unity, security, and economic success. The Federalists vs. Anti Federalists Before the construction of the current constitution, many citizens named the Anti Federalists shared concerns on the new founded America turning into the situation in which they just broke free from. They feared the power of the people being diminished by the central government, leaving them without secured rights, and returning to the same instance experienced in England. In their time these worries were still fresh and strongly feared, and rightfully so. Anti Federalists wanted to have a weak central government with the power lying within each state, primarily so each state could regulate its own taxes, thus, preventing the
  • 7. The Chocolate War Analysis You can put a band aid on a cut but nothing can heal your mind. Within The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, Archie Costello s psychological tactics of violence are more useful than Emile Janza s physical tactics. Archie manipulates the student body of Trinity with mind games such as the assignments. Meanwhile, Emile is not very manipulative, he uses brutal and physically hurtful ways to get to people. Archie is more effective of getting what he wants with using his tactics of mind games, rather than Emile s brutal ways. Throughout Trinity, Archie Costello makes the lives of the student body scarce. Part of this is his psychological stratagems. With the assignments he comes up with, many of the kids tend to fall apart, like Goober. When selling the chocolates, The Goober s breath came fast. But otherwise he felt nothing. He willed himself to feel nothing. He didn t feel rotten. He didn t feel like a traitor. He didn t feel small and cowardly. And if he didn t feel all of these things, then why was he crying all the way to his locker (Cormier 211). Goober is not selling the chocolates because he wants to stand up for Jerry, but Archie stops this. He manipulates it and makes it seem as if Goober had sold all of them, defeating Goober s purpose. With something as simple as this, Goober is in emotional pain and much instability. Secondly, Archie even has a way to effectively torture Janza. Throughout, Archie repeatedly tells Emile that he has an inappropriate picture of him,

When I thought of an art museum, I thought it was going to be all paintings. But as it turns out, that idea was wrong. There were lots of other forms of art there as well. The exhibit that I enjoyed the most was the International Pop exhibit. But there were also many other exhibits that I enjoyed as well. Some of those include; European, American, Arms and Armor. All every interesting exhibits that everyone should see. But those are not all, when going to this museum, every exhibit should be looked at, all have very interesting things in them. The International pop exhibit was one of my favorite out of all the exhibits. The International Pop navigates a fast paced world packed with bold and thought provoking imagery, revealing a vibrant period shaped by social, political, and cultural changes . One piece of art that I found interesting was Still Life by Tom Wesselmann, American, 1931 2004 . When looking at this piece if reminds me of different time. This piece reminds me of other art works that I have seen with the same kinds of things on it as well. Another work of art that I enjoyed was the 20th /21st Century Tribute by AntГґnio Henrique Amaral , this painting makes the viewer actually stop and look at it. There are many different parts to this painting too look at. When walking through the museum, this was definitely something that catches ones eye.

Oral Synthesis Essay Uncertainty with defining the clinical attributes of Apraxia of Speech has been debated in the literature dating back to 1960 s when Darley (1975) first introduced the term Apraxia of Speech (AOS). However, the idea of a motor speech disorder existing with preserved language skills and unimpaired muscular function was originally introduced by Paul Broca in the 1800s (Broca, 1861). McNeil et.al, (2004) defines AOS as a neurogenic communication disorder affecting the planning and programming of speech movements in the absence of weakness, slowness, and incoordination of the speech musculature. Most worship some form of the Great Goddess and Her consort, The Horned God. Such duo theistic forces are often conceived as embodying complementary polarities, not in opposition. In some traditions worship of the Goddess is emphasized, although in others the Goddess and Godare seen as complementary co equals. According to current Gardnerian Wiccans, the exact names of the Goddess and God of traditional Wicca remain an initiatory secret, and they are not given in Gardner s books about witchcraft. These are the names used in the prototype Book of Shadows known as Ye Bok of Ye Arte Magickal. For most Wiccans, the Lord and Lady are seen as complementary polarities: male and female, force and form, comprehending all in their union; the tension and interplay between them is the basis of all creation, and this balance is seen in much of nature. A society s culture, consists of whatever it is one has to know or believe in order to operate in a manner acceptable to its members (Geertz 242). The rituals, customs, ethics and morals that are attributed to the cultureshave caused these differences. To understand how the people of one culture interpret a situation or event, one must evaluate the attributesthat a culture has. The criteria that an event is based on changes as one culture applies their own ideas to the given situation. What tripped Cohen up, and with him the whole, ancient pattern of social and economic relationships within which he functioned, was a confusion of tongues. (Geertz 241) Geertz explains that the reason for the confusion, and the different interpretations of the event that took place is a simple misunderstanding that when took place in clashing cultures with different views, both striving to claim the situation in their own contexts became a somewhat humorous event. This conflict between cultures causes a view of a person to change depending on which point of reference they are being seen from. In Ernest Hemingway s Indian Camp, the conflict between cultures again cause a difference of views of the father. The concept of heroism and violation becomes the issue of conflict. The father or doctor is considered a hero or a violator of the Indian woman depending on the culture viewing him. From the father s culture, he is viewed as a hero for his actions at the Indian camp. His actions are viewed as heroic under the circumstances of his procedure. Because of the culture of the Indian people, having a white man, an outsider of the tribe, come in and operate on an Indian woman is viewed as obscene and a violation of the woman not to

Furthermore, while Holland suggests that people can be categorised as one of six types, he also argues that a six category scheme built on the assumption that there are only six kinds of people in the world is unacceptable on the strength of common sense alone. Both are high profile motion pictures about major recording stars who recently died (Cash passed away in 2003, four months after the death of his wife, June Carter). The music the 2 of them play is different, but there are very similar plot fundamentals, among which are drug use. Walk the Line I think is a better film. It s put together with more style, and it never seems to get boring, unlike Ray which near the end seems to drag on for a bit. Ray had much more fantasy as opposed to Walk the Line which was all completely based on Cash s own words. This movie also has a powerful plotline that Ray didn t, a love story! In the introduction given by Marianne Worthington from the University of the Cumberlands, she emphasized the importance of telling Appalachian stories for themselves. After years of outside authors stereotyping Appalachian culture in their work and these messages being spread, many authors in the region are beginning to reclaim Appalachian stories, telling them for their real work. In fact, Worthington even described Gipe as a protector of Appalachian culture and language. Another important part of Gipe s graphic novel that Worthington emphasized was the importance of the female narrator, Dawn Jewell, as one in the long tradition of Appalachian female characters. In Gipe s reading, Dawn certainly has an interesting home life and personality. Dawn s mother is a drug addict and her father has also left the family. The activist reform would motivate management to achieve operating efficiencies, which would improve cash flows and generate better returns for both the shareholders and bondholders. In conclusion, I find the objections to the strategies of activists raised by the managers of Commonwealth REIT and other companies in the article vague. However, the managers need to distinguish between the activists looking for short term profits and the activists looking for a long term value creation. The former might destroy some value in the process so the managers need to fend off those attacks. It is management s fiduciary duty to maximize the stockholder value, and they should act accordingly. If the company has extra cash they should return it to the shareholders in form of either dividends or share repurchase. Similarities Between Game Of Roses And War Of The Roses A Marriage between Roses and Thrones A marriage is usually perceived as two people in love and bind themselves together with an unbreakable bond. However, in the medieval age, political marriages were more often than a love between couples. Both the Wars of the Roses and HBO s Game of Thrones, political marriages occur in order to lead to personal gain and conduct strategic planning for one s kingdom. In HBO s Game of Thrones, a scene from season 3, episode 5 shows Tywin, Tyrion, and Cersei discussing marriages in a manner which exemplifies the significance of political marriages compared to the Wars of the Roses, between Margaret of Anjou and Henry VI, especially through close up shots, lighting, and sound. When watching the fifth episode of season 3 of Game of Thrones, Tyrion, Tywin, and Cersei discuss how they can use marriages so the Lannisters can secure the North and it can be done if Tyrion marries Sansa Stark. This is comparable to Margaret of Anjou and Henry VI. Margaret of Anjou marries Henry VI and thus as stated in The War of the Roses, Marrying Henry to the French king s niece seemed to serve two greater purposes: it would bring England a diplomatic and military truce in the French wars and it would enable Henry and Margaret to rebuild the dwindling stock of the English royal family. • 18. Fidelity Vs. The Odyssey Essay Pietro Elie Mr. Lewis F Band 12/8/16 How Fidelity Drives The Odyssey Fidelity is the crucial virtue in The Odyssey. Fidelity is what drives the story of Odysseus s journey: it is both Odysseus s reason for returning home and the means for him to get home. In the course of the story, Homer dramatizes the nature of fidelity by contrasting different forms of fidelity and their opposites. This essay will examine three forms of fidelity and the roles they play in Odysseus s journey. The most noticeable form of fidelity is sexual fidelity, or faithfulness. Odysseus loves his wife, Penelope, and he wants nothing more than to get back home to her; and for him, the fullest expression of being back with her would be back in bed with her. And yet Odysseus sleeps with a couple of other women during his journey home, and he does so willingly. Describing Odysseus s last day with Calypso, Homer says, And now, withdrawing into the cavern s deep recesses, in each other s arms they lost themselves in love. (book 5, lines 250 251) What they feel is love not just lust, or passion; that they lost themselves shows that they felt it mutually. This is obviously Odysseus sleeping with Calypso willingly and enjoying it. Later in the story, he is unfaithful to Penelope again when he sleeps with Circe: Straightaway she began to swear the oath I required never, she d never do me

What kids are able to view and read on the internet must be protected until they are old enough to handle the information that is available by the multitudes on the internet. Parents should have the right or the ability to censor the information that comes into their home. Civil libertarian groups advocate the protection of the individual s freedoms from infringement by the government. These include things like freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion, and a free press (South University Online, 2016). However, when trying to maintain a vast array of information such as on the internet, government support and intervention is necessary. The internet is too large an entity to govern itself. In education specifically students will have to approach problems in different directions. This is something that takes a bit of adjusting to if that student is not previously exposed to reasoning and proofs. Very young students make conjectures all the time. It is one of the beauties of preschool and kindergarten. At this stage of life, kids are very curious about most subjects. In the case of geometry, a preschool student starts to recognize the similarities of a square and a cube. They obviously may not be able to reason what the volume of the cube is, but they start to recognize the similarities. This is a tremendous aspect that shouldn t be looked over. It is important to continue and develop these students and not let that curiosity diminish. That curiosity is the drive in education. At this age, educators should focus on the basics of reasoning. There aren t many formulas for these kids, they are just being exposed to the process. Rene pointed out the very important facts that two or more curves can be referred to one and the same system of co coordinates, and that the points in which two curves intersect can be determined by finding the roots common to their equations. Rene wrote three Geometric books. The first two are about analytical geometry, and the third is an analysis of algebra that was current then. Rene also paid particular attention to the theory of tangents to curves. Back then the current definition of a tangent at a point was a straight line through the point such that between it and the curve no other straight line could be drawn, that is the straight line of closet contact. Rene described his theory by giving the general rule for drawing tangents and normals to a roulette. The method that Rene used to find the tangent or normal at any point of a given curve was he determined the center and radius of a circle, which should cut the curve in two consecutive points. The tangent to the circle at that point will be the required tangent to the curve. In modern text books it is

The painting of my house back home that hung on the wall, just down the hallway. The only painting in the entire house was the one on that wall, with its pale exterior topped with the sky colored blue roof, my mother s chair on the patio, and my purple bike leaning against the side. The painting hung just down the hall above a small table adorned with a purple vase of red roses. Immediately after recognizing the smell, I got up and ran as fast as my legs would carry me. Melody and Oralia stood to ask where I was going but I hardly noticed. After just a few moments of running, I saw it. The house on the other side overflowed with flames and bathed in a persimmon hue. Qualities of Sports Leaders Qualities of sports leaders The four different qualities I will be talking about are decision making, evaluation, communication and also talking about managing a group. After I explained theses I will then relate them to an effective sports leader. An effective sports leader needs to make decisions in long term and short term parts. They need to consider what to do and why. Making good decisions will come through good experience of having to make big decisions either within a game or outside. Decision making means a sports leader makes a choice of what to do to help his own team out. A good sports leader will take the time to evaluate their own performance or other participants. Evaluating their own performance helps them to see their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Effective management in your participants will result in getting the best out of them. My sports leader I have suggested is Steven Gerrard. He has all these qualities and is a very successful leader by being captain of Liverpool Football Club and also England. Being this well known he must have a very good attitude and is looked upon as a role model for many people. His decision making is brilliant as he makes decisions to make key passes within games that lead his team to victory. He has years of experience to know what decisions are needed to be made. As he is captain for Liverpool he needs to evaluate each players performance and give them feedback either when he can during a game or at the end of games. This will push players on as he is seen as one of the best footballers in the world people will listen to him. He has good communication levels as he talks to his team constantly to give them advice either to say well done or mark players or even step up the game etc. having this communication allows his team to have time to no what to do if they have time on the ball. This is one of the most important qualities within football. Every game and every training session he has to lead players and even manage players abilities. When he s on the pitch he s managing his team by telling what to do and making key passes etc. Characteristics The four characteristics I have chosen are patience,

Interracial Figures of the American Renaissance Essay Interracial Figures of the American Renaissance This essay examines Cora from The Last of the Mohicans, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Ann Jacobs. The American Renaissance marks a period of social injustice and the fight of the minority to bring about social change. Women and African Americans (who were freed or escaped from slavery) begin to gain a voice through literacy, and use that voice to start the movement to abolish slavery and gain women rights. The development of literacy makes it impossible to ignore women and African Americans because their writing provides a permanent record of the horrors of slavery and injustice of oppressing the minority groups. The interracial figures of the American Renaissance are Cora from The Last of the Mohicans, Frederick Douglass, and Harriet Ann Jacobs. In James Fenimore CooperГўs novel, The Last of the Mohicans, Cora represents the intermingling of the races and the complexity that occurs due to her interracial heritage. Her father, Colonel Munro, describes CoraГўs identity to Duncan in the following lines: There it was my lot to form a connexion with one who in a time became my wife, and the mother of Cora. She was the daughter of a gentleman of those isles, by a lady, whose misfortune it was, if you willВ·to be descended, remotely from that unfortunate class, who are so basely enslaved to administer to the wants of a luxurious people! (Cooper 159) These lines reveal the secret behind CoraГўs true heritage. Albeit Cooper addresses the issue of interracial relations, he still maintains an element of romanticism in that CoraГўs mother comes from a foreign land and not a slave on a plantation that Colonel Munro owned. The context this conversation occurs in provides insight into the complications involved in CoraГўs ethnicity. Colonel Munro reveals CoraГўs race after Duncan has asked for her younger, half sister AliceГўs hand in marriage. Munro assumes that Duncan chooses Alice over Cora because he has figured out that Cora is of mixed blood. In response to what Munro perceives as prejudice he says, [a]nd you cast it on

When you raise your demeanor, E. Goffman termed it as status, according to him there are three types of status and these are the following: Ascribed status (One that you are assigned based on biological factors such as race, sex, or age.) Achieved status (One that is earned through an individual s own effort.) Master status (Status that has priority over all other statuses and generally determines a person s overall position in society. The most common master statuses are those based on gender and race.) According to Goffman, we use various mechanisms, called sign vehicles, to present ourselves to others. The most commonly employed sign vehicles are the following: Social setting, appearance, the manner of interacting. The social setting is the physical place where interaction occurs. It could be a doctor s examination room, a hallway, someone s home, or a professor s office. How we arrange our spaces, and what we put in them, conveys a lot of information about us. A person who lives in a large home with security guards, attack dogs, and motion detectors conveys the message that he or she is very important, wealthy, and powerful, and probably that uninvited visitors should stay away. On the other hand, the owner of a house with no fence, lots of lights, and a welcome mat would seem much more inviting

As Americans, we listen to music while we drive our cars, are at work, doing housework, studying, etc. We have songs for special occasions: Christmas, Hanukah, birthdays, weddings, parties, etc. We have taken songs from the various cultures that make us diverse: Arabic, German, Mexican, Native American, etc. We have many genres: country, hip hop, rap, pop, blues, jazz, rock, heavy metal, etc. And although we may think of music as simple and easy, looking at all this makes one realize how diverse and complex our music truly is. Despite the musical differences between all these artists, all three songs/genres were able to give light to the theme of love. And even though the theme may be the same, the music and words were not. So even though two songs may have a theme that is similar, themes in music add diversity. Symbolism in music can vary from the author s use of a word or phrase with personal meaning or the author s use of a word or phrase to symbolize something relative to a culture. Take for example the songs sung during slavery. According to the CD Steal Away there are many symbols found in the music sung by the slaves. For example, in the song Go Down Moses the slaves were able to sing about the injustices of slavery right before their masters. Let my people go they would sing. But since the song appears to be a reference to the biblical story, the owners would allow it to be sung. In this song, the singers have personal symbols that another group of people would not understand. Yet in popular music you will find symbols, such as the rose, which have
