Essay On Stormbreaker
First of all, in the novel Stormbreaker, 14 year old Alex Rider experiences things that a normal
schoolboy would never experience. Having his uncle, Ian, assassinated because of his
involvement in MI6, a secret intelligence agency for the British Government. The details told to
Alex about his uncle s death were soon to be discovered as lies when he saw Ian s car in the
junkyard with windows completely shattered as if it was shot at. He was told that Ian died in a
car accident because he wasn t wearing a seat belt, however this was now confirmed as a lie. The
picture I chose to represent this event is from the movie, a few seconds prior to Ian s
assassination by the hands of Yassen Gregorovich. Second, once Alex finds out about the
mission Ian took that led to his assassination, MI6 asked for his help. A 14 year old boy s help in
the same mission that got his uncle, a professional spy, assassinated. The training began almost
instantly since Alex didn t have a family that didn t want him to leave. His parents both died in an
airplane accident a few weeks after he was born. Now, his uncle that took care of him was
assassinated. The training Alex was put through worried the... Show more content on

Sayle Enterprises promised to donate one Stormbreaker, an advanced computer, to every school

of Ian confirmed MI6 s suspicions, that Herod Sayle wasn t to be trusted. As an undercover spy
who supposedly was the lucky winner of a contest, getting a free trip to Sayle Enterprises to be
the first one to test out the Stormbreaker. I thought this picture was a good way to represent Alex s
testing of the Stormbreaker because he thought it was really useful. However, in reality, Sayle was

Necessary And Proper Clause Essay
Necessary and Proper Clause: Defined In Article 1 and section 8 of the Articles of the
Constitution the necessary and proper clause is defined. This clause is many times referred to as
the elastic clause as well. Its inclusion was to grant Congress the power and authority to carry out
the enumerated powers. The implied powers that Congress also possess, were granted with this
clause as a basis, these implied powers are required for Congress to execute the enumerated
powers. Some examples include, the power to collect and levy taxes and revenue, the authority to
also regulate currency and its value, as well as coining money. Without these specific powers, our
government doesn t have the authority or power to charter a bank, regulate the national currency or
the power to tax. The enumerated powers were clearly expanded with the inclusion of the implied
powers. (Janda, Berry, Goldman, 2012) One of the basic principles of our Constitution,... Show

authority to make laws necessary and proper for carrying into execution, the power to regulate

The Economic Impact Of Tourism Development In Developing...
From the day due to people would have a high demand go out of their house and take a trip, the
government has realized that tourism is one of the most important industry to develop their
economies. Not only in developed countries in the world but also many developing countries have
realized this. The rural communities of some developing countries have many problem and high
unemployment. With this developmentof tourism, people in the rural can have more job options and
boost their local economies. To develop the economy in rural communities and solve the difficulties,
they have adopted tourism as a new economic developmentstrategy (Latkova, 2008). However, in
some rural communities, the planners would not balance between the benefits and the drawbacks
of tourism development. Therefore, many negative impacts of tourism like a large number of
tourists, environmental pollution, and ruined legacy outweigh socio cultural, economic and also
environmental advantages. As a result, it is crucial to understand the opinions of residents
regarding future developing before starting any tourism development program (Latkova, 2008).
Some previous studies about tourism development have demonstrated that it depends much on the
goodwill, participation, and support of residents (Yoon, Gursoy, Chen, 2001). Following the
findings of Yoon, Gursoy, and Chen, they suggested that tourism should be developed base on the
needs and desires of residents. The fundamental for the success and developing

The objective of this study is determining the institutional success rate with single dose
intramuscular methotrexate therapy for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy and to identify
predictors of treatment outcome. This research was a retrospective study which reviewed
consecutive patients who were treated with methotrexate from 2000 to 2002. Their treatment
success was defined as complete resolution of ectopic pregnancywithout the need for surgical
intervention. The result of the study was success rate of 85% (69/81 patients). Women in which
their treatment was successful their pretreatment serum beta human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG)

chance of maintaining fertility after treatment without the need for hospital visits10.
In summary, Methotrexate is a successful significant management option for ectopic pregnancy in

leading to the pregnancy being absorbed). This makes it an effective medicine that should be

Identity in Gertrude Stein s The Making of Americans Essay
Identity in Gertrude Stein s The Making of Americans
Throughout her career, Gertrude Stein was fascinated by the possibility of revolution in the sense
of a complete or drastic change, especially in relation to her ideas of identity and agency. But
critics disagree about her conclusions. For example, Bruce Goebel sees her early texts as
embrac[ing a] deterministic attitude about the formation of identity (238) that conceives of identity
as locked within historical and biological contexts. At the other extreme, many critics such as Caren
Kaplan locate Stein s work within the context of expatriate modernism and so see it within the
discourses which celebrat[e] the rootless traveler (7), cut loose from nation and history and thus ...

In The Use of Pleasure, the second volume of The History of Sexuality, Foucault emphasizes the
possibilities for change and agency in his definition of the arts of existence :
I am referring to what might be called the arts of existence. What I mean by the phrase are those
intentional and voluntary actions by which men not only set themselves rules of conduct, but also
seek to transform themselves, to change themselves in their singular being, to make their life into
an oeuvre that carries certain aesthetic values and meets certain stylistic criteria. (10 11)
Stein, too, is interested in her characters abilities to transform themselves in The Making of
Americans. She describes Henry Dehning who in the process of growing up had made everything
for himself very different so that he can no longer imagine his prior self:
And it is strange how all forget when they have once made things for themselves to be very
different. A man like Dehning never can feel it real to himself, things as they were in his early
manhood, now that he has made his life and habits and his feelings all so different. He says it
often, as we all do childhood and old age and pain and sleeping, but it can never anymore be really
present to his feeling. (7)
This transformation, as with others in the novel, carries with it a sense of loss and of the

Assault On Gun Control
Assault on Gun Control
Over the years gun control has been an issue that has been argued over and over. Some say
stricter laws are needed to control the guns that are out in the public. Other say harsher
background checks need to be done. Even gone as far as banning certain weapons that someone
can own in the United States. But not matter what laws or restrictions are in place, the fact
remains, guns don t kill people, people kill people. First, I want to define a question that people
have. What is the definition of a mass shooting? Since I will be talking about this a little I want
to define a mass shooting. There is not a specific definition of mass shooting, an accepted one
says that an incident in which at least four people are shot (injured or killed) is considered a mass
shooting. The FBI, only considers an incident a mass murder if three or more people are killed Lord
(2017) So some of the facts or statistics may not be as correct as one would like. This is tough
when trying to present an accurate figure during an argument.
Everyone is so eager to jump on the band wagon to restrict or ban weapons or mainly semi/full
automatic assault style weapons. They talk about the mass shootings of recent time; Sandy Hook
Elementary School shooting, 26 deaths, Route 91 Music Fest in Las Vegas, 58 deaths, and 26
deaths at the Baptist church in Texas. Nestel Keneally (2017) These are all because of
semiautomatic or fully automatic weapons. These facts are true. But they

Essay on Shattered Glass Analysis
The film Shattered Glass presents the ethical issues of fabrication and the deception of the writer,
Stephen Glass, to his editor and co workers. He deliberately sensationalized his stories in order to
gain his reader s attention. His facts were partially, if not completely, inaccurate and he presented
notes that he fabricated as facts for each of his pieces at the New Republic. Journalists in the media
have a duty to the people to report the truth and follow an ethical code whenever reporting stories.
If I did not know anything about journalism, I would have to conclude from the film Shattered Glass
that the purpose of journalism is to report the truth no matter what even if the story seems boring to
you. Also as a fact checker/editor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of the New Republic, they were lucky that Stephen Glass unethical behavior was
exposed or else the magazine could have suffered a great deal more than they already did having
to admit that most of his articles were fabricated. Unethical journalism as a whole causes society
to feel as if they can trust no one, which then leads people to feel as if they need to do their own
research in order to obtain the truth. Falsifying information only further disrupts the trust
between the media and society. Sports columnist Mitch Albom from the Detroit Free Press was
investigated in April 2005, due to events he reported that did not happen. In his article he
described two NBA players in the stands that were not even at the game. The Detroit Free Press
disciplined Albom but did not state what type of punishment he would receive. In 2005,
freelance writer Barbara Stewart of the Boston Globe fabricated a story about a Canadian seal
hunt. She reported that the story had already happened, when in fact it had been delayed due to
weather. She wrote as if she were at the hunt, when in fact she was not even at the site where the
seal hunt occurred. Chris Cecil from the Daily Tribune News in Carterville, Georgia, was fired
in 2005 when the Miami Herald let the Tribune know that part of Cecil s columns were taken
from a columnist at the Herald. Eric Slater, a reporter for Los Angeles Times, was fired in 2005
after an article he wrote about a Cal State Fraternity.

Dissolution of marriage including child support and custody issues
Facts
Forest and Olive Green have decided to obtain a dissolution of marriage, after twenty years of
marriage. She and Mr. Green have already had several arguments concerning child support
arrangements for their children Kelly Green, age 14, and Moss Green, age 10. Mrs. Green thinks
that it would be best for the children if she and Mr. Green had joint custody of the children. Along
with this, Mrs. Green wants to be able to receive child support from Mr. Green because due to
her lack of job experience she thinks it is unlikely that she can find a job that will support herself

Since Mr. and Mrs. Green intend on having joint custody of the children, it looks as if all aspects
of rearing the children, including expenses as well as decision making would be shared among
the parents. Although it is shared , that does not signify that it will be equally shared. The court
will determine, based on the formula contained in the Kentucky Child Support Guidelines, what
each parent pays. Furthermore, since Mrs. Green is without income as a homemaker, it seems
as though some sort of child support payment should be paid in regards to the children while
they are residing in her home. Also, if Mr. Green takes a job, earning less income due to health
problems, this may affect the amount of child support he would be obligated to pay, but it shouldn
t keep him from being required to pay some sort of child support. This job change can cause the
court to deviate from the guidelines. However, the court may look at Mrs. Green s unemployment
as being voluntary. Thus, the court may not use that issue in determining the child support Mr.
Green should be obligated to pay. The court will probably not order Mrs. Green to obtain
employment, but in looking at the facts, there is no valid reason as to her unemployment, and it

The Atomic Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
The Atomic Bomb
After World War I, no one, not even the Head of Chemical Warfare, suspected such a weapon
would be dropped on civilians in the near future. Prior to the development of the atomic bomb in
World War II, gas bombing and incendiary bombing were prevalent (Rotter 5). The race to create
nuclear weapons and the excitement of succeeding technologically is thought to have distorted the
morality of those who decided to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These atomic bombings are
plausibly the first and last of their kind, as increasing nuclear programs in countries worldwide
promise mutually assured destruction to countries associated in such an ordeal. In the future, all
countries involved in a war will need to tread carefully, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ironically, approximately twenty years later, the United States of America was blamed for doing
just that. Arguably, the entire Atomic Bomb situation began on August 2, 1939, when President
Franklin D. Roosevelt received a letter revealing by purifying uranium 235 one had the potential to
create a bomb. It also revealed the efforts in Nazi Germany to create a bomb (Bellis 1). In response
to this letter, a secret government project called the Manhattan Project , began (Bellis 1).
The Manhattan Project was top secret at the time, and served the purpose of creating and testing
an atomic bomb(Bellis 1). Between 1939 and 1945 over two billion dollars were given to the
Manhattan Project (Bellis 1). The scientists burdened with inventing such a bomb mostly
originated from the University of Chicago (Bellis 1). To create an atomic bomb, a specific
amount of enriched uranium must be used, to create a chain reaction (Bellis 1). The group of
scientists, headed by Enrico Fermi and J. Robert Oppenheimer, created a pile of forty five metric
tons of natural uranium embedded in solid graphite (Bellis 1). Although the reaction was slowed
because the uranium 235 was not extracted, it was considered successful (Bellis 1). The next step
was to extract the uranium 235, and create a real bomb (Bellis 1). The way to go about this
creation was difficult. The ratio of uranium to uranium ore is five hundred to one. The one part in
that ratio is ninety nine

The First Commander I Will Talk About Is Heinrich Himmler
There were many leaders in the Waffen SS, such as Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Paul
Hausser, Theodor Eicke, Felix Steiner, Kurt Meyer and Joachim Peiper. And I researched the 4
leaders mainly: Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Felix Steiner and Paul Hausser. The first
commander I will talk about is Heinrich Himmler. Figure.1 Himmler in early SS uniform
Heinrich Himmler was a ceremonial chief of the Waffen SS, a leading member of the Nazi Party,
and Himmler was the one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany and one of the persons most
directly responsible for the Holocaust. Himmler joined the party in 1923, and he was not a
powerful leader at that time. Upon the resignation of the SS leader Erhard Heiden, Himmler was
assumed as a commander of the SS by Hitler s approval, and he carried out his duties at
propaganda headquaters. His first responsibility was to organize SS participants, and over the
next year, and he made the SS force bigger, 290 men to about 3000 men. And after a few years, in
1943, Himmler became a main architect of the Holocaust, after Hitler finally resolved to kill the
Jews. Holocaust generally means a large scale massacre, but it is also known as a large scale
massacre of Jewish people in World War2. Holocaust first became known by Himmler s speech.

Essay On Good Vs Evil Archetypes
Most stories, movies, and myths have the simple archetype of Good vs. Evil. This particular
archetype can often be confusing, because in stories the reader is often lead to believe that
something or someone represents good or evil, but it does not. More often than not the evil
character is either crazy or was raised wrongly. Evil characters in Good vs. Evil stories are often not
truly evil but either mental unstable or not taught right from wrong.
The entirety of the Inheritance series is based on two archetypes, Good vs. Evil and Man vs. Man.
These two archetypes are the underlying archetypes. Each book also has its own archetypes that
overlays the first two mentioned. One of the overlying archetypes, Crime pursued by Vengeance, is
only overlying throughout the first three books of the series, Eragon, Eldest, and the 1st quarter of

archetypes of Revenge, Temptation, The Quest, Love, Maturation, and Transformation. In The

main character also helps her lover take revenge upon his family, the royal family. Up until he
dies, she is on a quest to exact that revenge. Along the way her ability to create illusions, along
with the frequency with which she uses it, begins to degrade her mind she begins to hallucinate and
become mentally unhinged. This is where the reader comes into contact with the Madness
archetype. She goes through a period of maturation and transformation to become a powerful force,
which overthrows the kingdom which fits in the Ascension archetype. The Good vs. Evil archetype
is visible here in the main character vs. Her hallucinations which often coerce her into killing
innocents. It is confusing because the evil force seems like the royal family, but it is not

Economic Effects of the Foreign Exchange Rate

dollar rate, increasing by 1.90% from its previous rate. Due to the increasing confidence by
investors and improving economic conditions, the peso further increased its value and reached to

the peso s volatility increased to P0.30 in April and P0.59 in May which was caused by the
depreciation of the value of the currency. In June, volatility decreased to P0.23. This was
attributable to the increase of the country s GDP by 5.5% in the second quarter of 2006. But it
rose again in July to an average of P0.43. This was

According to Arp and Johnson, Literary fiction plunges us, through the author s imaginative
vision and artistic ability, more deeply into the real world, enabling us to understand life s
difficulties and to empathize with others. In the story The Metamorphosis by Kafka he uses his

main character, Gregor. Kafka uses a tremendous amount of symbolism and metaphors to get us
to feel the mood in the story and in general life s difficulties. In the story, Gregor wakes up on a

Once Gregor is turned into this cockroach, his family is tested and fails to show the love and
loyalty a family should indeed give each other no matter what. That s when the empathy is at
full throttle. Gregor is completely rejected and abandoned by his family, not even a word
spoken to him from the people that pretended to love him and Kafka shows this truth that there
is no such thing as unconditional love. Gregor s family does not try to help him but instead they
feel ashamed and try to hide him. They do not think of his feelings or how much he has done for
them, instead they want to get rid of him, We must try to get rid of it (500) said the sister, She s

though Gregor ends up dying he was killing himself in the story as a human to feed, pay and give
to his parents and his sister when they did not even deserve it. His family could not function
without him and when Gregor is turned they finally have to shift to supporting themselves. Kafka
shows such vulnerability to events way beyond our control. The fact that Gregor becomes alienated

Paul most clearly displays his strength on the each of these levels when a bombardment begins
to rip apart the graveyard in which he and his comrades had been resting. A single reading of the
passage reveals the first level upon which Paul excels: as a soldier. His training in No. 9 platoon
under Corporal Himmelstoss made sure that he would not be killed the moment he stepped foot
in the trenches, but the knowledge that he displays in this time of crisis did not come from
parade grounds or noncommissioned officers; it came from months of trench warfare, from
experience under fire, and from the natural instinct to make the right choices when it matters
most. From the beginning of the passage, one can observe Paul s course of action: he does not
think, he reacts. From the moment the first shell lands, he begins gathering information: By the
light of the shells I try to get a view of the fields (66). When his sleeve is torn away, he does not
trust the fact that he feels no pain. Paul thinks: the fact that [I feel no pain] does not reassure me:
wounds don t hurt until afterwards. I feel the arm all over. It is grazed but sound (66). His actions
reveal some of his soldiering merit, but not all.

Construction Projects For The Construction Industry
Introduction Construction projects contain a high level of complicated procurement processes. Not
only the revenue or profit is critical in the construction industry, but market intelligence and
construction procurement knowledge are also important. The bidding process in the construction
industry is illustrated by many different involved parties including the architectural and
engineering firms, client, general contractors, material suppliers, specialized contractors,
manufacturers, etc. (Halaris, 2001). Preparing proposed documents, appraising bids, and
awarding the contract to the winner of the bid are among the major duties of the client (Gokhan
et al, 2006). (Gokhan et al, 2006) Fig. 1. Bid proposal preparation process Sub contracting has
comprehensively been used in the construction industry. It allows general contractors to employ
the lowest workforce in construction projects and promotes specialization (Maturana, 2005).
Many general contractors only play a role as construction management agents in construction
projects, for example, they sub contract a large volume of their work to sub contractors (Shash,
1998). The characteristic bidding process is showed in Fig. 1. Bidding requirements and
procedures vary and have disparate requirements that are created by the owners. There is a

The Importance Of Biodiversity
The 3.7 billion years of the earth s biological history can be summarized as follows: Organisms
convert energy into food, chemical elements perform their cycles, and species perform different
biological functions (niches) evolving in response to changes according to conditions
environmental impacts. This implies that today, every specieson the planet has gone through an
evolutionary process and that each individual performs their role in the ecosystem. Like the many
species in the world, we human beings (thanks to certain characteristics that allow us to adapt and
modify the environment) have been able to increase our chances of survival on earth and this has
led us to a gigantic population and economic growth, which we call Development. However, such a
development makes the degradation of natural resources increasingly fast, making it imperative and
necessary to establish conservation oriented guidelines, since biodiversityis of the utmost
importance for the functioning of the ecosystem.
BIODIVERSITY
Biodiversity or biological diversity is a term used very well to describe the richness and variety
of all living things in the world; from plants and animals to microorganisms and beings a
thousand times more complex. Thus, on biological diversity we can say that it is present in the
most varied places, from the cold glaciers of the Arctic to the volcanic regions of Chile. In Brazil,
this fact is not different, and this is the country that holds about 20% of the world s

Barbell Back Squat Essay
Barbell back squats have always been a staple exercise in every bodybuilder, powerlifter and
athlete s workout regimen. Squats not only help build size to your legs but they also have other
added benefits such as improved flexibility and an increase in testosterone and growth hormone
production. There are many different techniques to help improve your squat such as the width of
your stance or the direction your toes are pointing. But the one technique that seems to be getting
the most attention is whether squatting barefoot is more beneficial in activating more muscles in
the lower limbs versus squatting wearing an athletic shoe. The following study focuses on the
activation of 8 lower limb muscles during a barbell back squat while barefoot and in an athletic
shoe. Researchers of this study hypothesize that the barefoot condition will produce more muscle
activation in comparison to the athletic shoe condition.
Participants in this study were healthy men and women ages 18 24. There were several criterions
the participants had to meet before partaking in the study. Each individual had to successfully
barbell back squat their own body weight for 1 repetition. Also participants were constantly

History Of The Mouse Trap
Mouse Trap When the mouse came out of his house he saw a rope that was attached to the left
side of a piece of cheese, so the mouse pulled the rope expecting the cheese to go to him but what
he did not know was that there was another rope attached to the right side of the cheese, that rope
was connected to a switch. When the mouse pulled the rope he/she flipped the switch which
made the fan turn on. to the right of the fan there was a toy sailboat the sailboat was in a

When the mouse trap snapped closed the rope that was attached to the left side got pulled, on the

What Is The Symbols In A Clean Well Lighted Place
A Clean Well Lighted Place is a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. The story is about
three men that always spend the night in the cafe. Two men as a waiter and an old man that
always come to drink in the cafe. The old man and old waiter like to stay until late at night yet the
younger waiter doesn t like to stay until late night because he wants to leave as soon as possible to
meet with his wife. In the story, Hemingway tries to combine the symbols and characters together.
Hemingway uses the symbols to symbolize the characteristic of the characters in his story.

Gunpowder Essay
The Western military trajectory finds many of the impetuses for a military revolution stemming
from non Western stimuli. Innovations such as the composite bow (introduced by the Hyksos),
cavalry (accredited to Assyria and Persia), the stirrup (attributed to China), gunpowder (China),
crossbow (China), and cannons (China) have been attributed to non Western regions; however, it is
the Western militaries that exploited these innovations to their full deadly potential and in the
process created militaryrevolutions. This paper will discuss how some of these exploitations
affected the Western military trajectory during the Gunpowder and First Industrial Revolutions,

The French invasion of Italy was not only an early part of the Gunpowder Revolution and the
beginning of the modern age of warfare, but it was one of the first attempts at building nation
states. At the time, Italy was divided into several city states, sovereign regions formed by a city and
its surrounding territories. Due to the small size of many city states, their defense was turned over
to mercenary captains, condottieri. The paid men who formed compagnie (companies) under the
condottieri were most often foreigners who lacked loyalty to their paymasters. On the other hand,
as France expanded and took over city states such as Armagnac, Burgundy, Provence, Anjou, and
Brittany, they would become a part the French nation and its military. As such, King Charles VIII
became the leader of the most powerful state in Europe by advancing the nation state instead of city
states. Nearly one and a half centuries later, Swedish King Gustavus II Adolphus would further
advance the French artillery techniques and make modern modifications to the formation and
maneuver of his troops during the Battle of Breitenfeld in 1631 against Count Johann Tilly, an
Imperial commander. Tilly formed his forces in seventeen tercios, large formation of pikemen and
musketeers fifty men abreast and thirty men deep. This formation was deadly for everything in its

The Importance Of Refugees In Australia
Asylum seekers or refugees have fled their countries due to volatile circumstances such as war, or
fear of prosecution. Upon arrival in Australia they are moved to detention centres. Detention centres
hold people who have come without a visa, any non national and all unauthorised boat arrivals
(Australian Human Rights Commission, 2014). These centres hold refugees for indefinite periods
and in poor conditions. They are used as a spectacle to represent illegality and a threat to Australian
society (Marfleet, 2007, p672).
The spectacle of detention centres does not only lie within public perception but also within the
architecture of the facility (Grinceri, 2016, p170 171). The barbed wired fence of detention centres
is an example. It allows the spectators (citizens) to witness the enclosure of refugees while
simultaneously binding refugees within its constraints, punishingly (Pugilese, 2008, p206 207).
The visibility provided by the wired fence enables photography and videoing, thus acting as a
spectacle.
This spectacle is related to the ideals of torture. They are tortured and punished based on
exclusions and exception. The refugees held in detention centres form the exception. They are the
Other which no one wishes to become and are a danger to society. Those tortured are viewed as
deserving because they are seen as a threat. The power to make decisions about who can and cannot
enter Australia lies within the (Government) Sovereignty (Georgatos, 2017). The sovereign

Socrates Stand on Democracy
Reusi 1 Raye Reusi D. Ryals Writing 1 November 14, 2012 Socrates Stand on Democracy Having
emphasized upon me the advantages of democracy, I have always believed that it is the best system
to implement in a country. Ignoring the flaws and weaknesses of this type of system, I thought that
the benefits outweigh all costs. I assume that giving the power to the people is better than having
one person rule the state. However, in Platos account on the life of his mentor Socrates, we are able
to see both sides of the spectrum: the pros and cons of democracy which are accounted in Plato s
dialogues, the Apology and the Crito. Socrates, having been accused of impiety, is brought to trial
in front of the jury of Athens. In his defense, he points... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, he implies that the people would not favor anyone that opposes injustice which seems to be
the common dealings in politics. He believes that he would have died long ago (34), although this
is not his ultimate concern. What he truly cares about is not to do anything unjust or impious (32).
Despite his criticisms on politics, Socrates is essentially reminding the people, especially those in
authority, to serve a just and virtuous life. Outwardly stating the current situation of the
government, he aims to provide the people a portrait of the shallow kind of democracy that they
have come to maintain. Socrates seeks to prompt the majority to uphold the true sense of
democracy, of fighting for justice and living life accordingly. Furthermore, Socrates uses his
dialectical approach with his friend Crito in examining the contrast between the knowledge of the
one and the pseudo knowledge of the many . He uses an analogy of a man involved in physical
activities, whom must listen to the advice of the true expert in his training, rather than the opinions
thrown by other people who barely know anything about these activities. Anyone who places a
higher regard to the thoughts of the majority, rather than to the knowledge of the one who possess
it, puts himself on greater harm (47). Socrates adds that if we disobey the one who seeks to

Inferential and Descriptive Statistics
Before we continue the discussion about the basic descriptive data elements that are needed to
answer the question I previously posed, it is important to understand what we mean by descriptive
statistics. Descriptive statistics describe the features of the data collected. In other words,
descriptive statisticsdescribe what the data looks like, but it does not tell you why or how data
elements interact or influence one another. Descriptive statistics provide a defender with
summaries about the data collected and these summaries may be either quantitative or visual.
Quantitative descriptive statistics are the sum of data points that are usually reported as total
numbers or averages in a report. For example, defender offices can use descriptive statistics to
determine the total of open felony cases per attorney in one year or say that on average they had
x number of open cases in the last two years. These are considered to be summaries of caseloads
that describe the data collected but it does not tell you if a certain variable (number of cases
opened in this example) has an influence (or is correlated) with the final outcome of a case.
When we say that a variable is correlated we mean that the knowledge of a certain variable
(caseload numbers) can allow you to consistently predict the action of another (final dispositional
outcomes). For example, if you mix two hydrogen and one oxygen (H20), you get water. We know
that every time you have the interaction of these

Research Paper On Mercury Transit
With all the hype surrounding the Mercury transit doomsday theory, it almost seems that evil aliens

MERCURY TRANSIT SCARES THE WORLD
About 13 times a century, Mercury passes between the Earth and the Sun. The beautiful and rare
occurrence was caught on film and to the surprise of many, we on Earth still exist. There was a
theory floating around that suggested evil forces were at work during the Mercury transit.
Apparently, with the aligning of the planets, other astronomical alignments occurred as well. The

humans to live on the planet, but given the right technology, it may be possible. The planet does
have water ice at its poles. Any beings living there could possible starting mining the ice and live

planet can reach up to 800 degrees Fahrenheit and nighttime temps get to minus 290. It s safe to

Competition And Sustainability For Reducing Production Costs
Competition and sustainability in the third party IT contracting industry in the United States are
driven by economic factors such as outsourcing, globalization, mergers, and acquisitions (Rose
Anderssen, Baldwin, Ridgway, 2011). In turn, these factors shape and transform third party IT
contracting companies (Jancikova Brychta, 2009). IT outsourcing(ITO) is a business solution for
reducing production costs (Desar McGee, 2010). This approach is used frequently in the
operation of call centers to provide customer service. For example, in Germany, a labor regulatory
framework is used to reduce labor costs in the operation of registered companies (Weinkopf, 2009).

Representatives of most IT companies, particularly call centers, use cloud computing software to
allow connectivity and sharing of resources in company data centers (Beverakis, Dick, Cecez
Kecmanovic, 2009). Cloud computing software is an advanced tool used in outsourcing,
particularly for communications, because of the capacity to collect and access massive amounts of
data. This software is commonly operated in a data center, which allows access to associated data
in a variety of ways (Anthes, 2010). Because most call centers operate using cloud computing, third
party IT contracting security is a primary concern (Anthes, 2010; Gatewood, 2009).
During the 1980s and 90s, outsourcing organizational activities became the standard for many
organizations (Kahai et al., 2011). Outsourcing, as a part of an organization s overall strategic plan,
has been effective in helping achieve organizational goals and objectives (Kahai et al., 2011).
Currently, many organizations incorporate outsourcing into the strategic plan, and this trend will
probably increase in the future (Heikkila Heikkila, 2010). Although outsourcing will not solve all of
the problems inherent in attempting to achieve competitive advantages and organizational cost
reductions in an organization, the practice is increasingly part of an organization s overall
comprehensive strategy in the business world (Andreff, 2009). While

Imagine hearing your alarm clock start to buzz and you turn to look at the clock, the time reads
4am. You get up, have a quick breakfast, and get dressed for work. By the time you end up back
at home it is around 11pm 12am and you are exhausted but have to do the same thing over in the

typical to last over a three month period. Although film productionis an exhausting profession it can
be very rewarding in itself. Film is an art form and producers make a generous living on the wages

2. Rothbard and Wilk s (2010) Study Although there are very few studies which examine the
effect of mood on job performance, Rothbard and Wilk s (2010) research is of great value.[2]
They studied the moods and performance of 29 customer service representatives in a large
insurance company over a three week period. They wanted to find out how the mood that
customer service representatives bring to the workplace at the start of the day influence task
engagement and performance throughout the day and how the changes in moods during the
interactions with the customers affect the rest of the workday. In this study, both positive and
negative mood from non work sources have been shown to influence work mood and behaviors.
They brought forth three sets of hypotheses: Hypothesis 1a: Higher start of day positive mood
will be associated with higher positive work mood later in the day, controlling for trait affect.
Hypothesis 1b: Higher start of day negative mood will be associated with higher negative work
mood later in the day, controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 2a: Higher perceived customer
positive mood will be associated with higher positive employee work mood during the day,
controlling for trait affect. Hypothesis 2b: Higher perceived customer negative mood will be
associated with higher negative employee work mood during the day, controlling for trait affect.

Status of women in society
A project report
Present scenario of the status of women in Indian society
According to India s constitution, women are legal citizens of the country and have equal rights
with men (Indian Parliament). Because of lack of acceptance from the male dominant society,
Indian women suffer immensely. Women are responsible for bearing children, yet they are
malnourished and in poor health. Women are also overworked in the fields and complete all of the
domestic work. Most Indian women are uneducated. Although the country s constitution says
women have equal status as of men, women are powerless and are mistreated inside and outside the

Educated/literate women will be better able to manage their families, so that their children become
good citizens of the country.
Mothers create the foundation stone on which children can build their careers and grow to become
respectable citizens.
The family is the foundation for building sustaining any nation and women is an important aspect
of a family.
Family participation should not be limited to their children only but must also include children of
relatives, neighbors and the less privileged. Since people do not live in isolation, we must
encourage mothers to participate in the parenting of people in and outside of their own families.
Young and even older children must also participate in supporting the family activities on a regular
basis. Through family participation, values can be instilled that will build and sustain a great nation.
My views
A woman is an architect of society. She establishes the institution of family life, builds the home,
brings up the children and makes them good citizens. Her strength in totality contributes in the
making of an ideal family, ideal society and an ideal state.
The question is how secure a woman is in her family and society and what is her socio economic
and political status. The position of women in any society is the indicator of health of the state.
Women contribute to society in many, many ways! There are very, very few professions that

Why Capital Was Moved To Constantinople
Why the Capital was Moved to Constantinople
Constantine founded Constantinople in A.D. 330 and built a prospering empire, but before he
made the momentous decision to move the capital he had to ensure that the original empire was
still functioning and manageable. He made sure to gain and secure the entire empire in only 18
years. When Constantine made the choice to move the capital, the center of power shifted with it to
the East. Even though the capital was relocated, Constantine established that he would keep the
majority of Rome s customs. Both Rome and the Byzantine empire spoke Latin, had the same
philosophies, had the same laws but Constantinople refined it s laws as the Justinian Code. Also,
they were strict about religion, conquered an abundant amount of land, gave out free food and
entertainment, and had houses styled in the same fashion. Even though the capital was moved,
Constantine kept Diocletian s ideas about social and economic policies. There was one considerable
difference which was their religion, Constantinople was a Christian city. Instead of temples, they
built many churches, one of them was the Hagia Sophia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Significance Of The Bruce Invasion
The Bruce Invasion, initiated by Robert Bruce, king of Scotland, and enacted on by his brother
Edward Bruce, was a way for Scotland to secure resources and troops from Ireland. At the time,
Ireland was giving resources over to England. Meanwhile, England and Scotland were at war with
one another. Ireland was just a proxy for these two other sides to gain something, whether it be
resources, political ally ship, or troops to fight off the other force s army. The Bruce invasion of
Irelandwas less about the Irish people and more about how The English and Scottish could secure

The Cause of the Great Depression Essay
The Cause of the Great Depression The economic expansion of the 1920 s, with its increased
production of goods and high profits, culminated in immense consumer speculation that collapsed
with disastrous results in 1929 causing America s Great Depression. There were a number or
contributing factors to the depression, with the largest and most important one being a general loss
of confidence in the American economy. The reason it escalated was a general misunderstanding of
recessions by American policymakers of the time.
The U.S. economy was booming in the 1920 s. Stocks prices soared, as they were bought on margin
for as little as 10% down. Market speculation is cyclical that is, if one stock appears profitable, you

Many people lost as much as ten times their initial investment, which shook consumer confidence.
In an effort to cover their margins, people rushed the banks in masses, demanding their money.
Soon, banks began to run out of cash and went bust.
With the economy falling in shambles and companies defaulting on loans, nearly all private and
corporate investment ceased. Companies couldn t afford to expand, and in fact, many had to
consolidate in order to cover the margins on their loans. This meant postponing hiring and laying
workers off, which caused unemployment to skyrocket. With people now willing to work for less
money, wages lessened too. At the same time prices rose in an attempt by companies to make some
amount of profit off the goods.
Because the governments prevailing economic theory was based on laissez faire economics, the
government believed that recessions were self correcting. Eventually unemployment and inflation
stopped declining, but not before the U.S. lost 1/3 of it s output and 25% of the workforce was
unemployed.
In the end, it was World War II that brought us out of the Great Depression. With war at hand, the
government began pumping massive amounts of money into the economy. Production and inflation
increased. More jobs were available and wages rose. At the

Leadership Behavior In Lao Tzu
Introduction Lao Tzu, the Father of Taoism, lived a large part of his life searching for an
individual s path of natural goodness. He is known for numerous inspirational quotes, such as Be
the Chief, but never the lord. This has been a source of encouragement throughout my Coast
Guard career. The title of lord is inherited or assigned as a positional power granted by
landowners. The Chief is chosen by the people to make the right decisions for their advantage. It is
an earned position of trust. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of
leadershipis to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force
granted to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow blindly. They must demonstrate leading
by example and be a role model for others to admire.
Leadership Influences As I reflect back, I recognize my definition of leadership in my mentors and
supervisors. A short list of the mentors I revered include: CWO4 Kenneth Hawko, MSTCM Judd
Reno, Commander John Humpage, Rear Admiral Joanna Nunan, and BMC Mike Hunt. Their
leadership naturally flowed from their personalities. I viewed these men and woman as my leaders
and their attitudes is what made me choose to follow them.

Music and Copyright Essay
Music has a powerful influence on society, like mass media and television. In our society today,
music has the ability to define our culture. Many people around the world listen to music while
driving, at work, doing housework, or even studying. Music may be seen as simple and
unproblematic, but looking at the structure behind it is very important. One of the key features of
music is music copyrightand what that means to the music industry. Defining what this means in
the historical context is of great significance. Music and copyright is a vital aspect of the music
industry. The question that remains, however, is what happens with motivation or intension when

She mentions that if a copyright law is charged with protecting a particular arrangement of notes,
then maybe copyright laws should protect the riffs, melodies, harmonies, etc., or all of them. It is of
great importance to understand the meaning behind what this means by looking at copyright laws
and what it means to the music industry. One characteristic of intellectual property rights is
copyright. This means that it can be bought or sold like any other form of property (McCann
1998). McCann states that the creator of an artistic piece of work is the first owner of a copyright.
The owner has the exclusive rights to do or to authorize anyone else to do certain things with the
whole or any extensive part of the work. The author and or the creator is at the centre of the
copyright paradigm as a separate and discrete body or entity. This is because the concept of the
writer or composer is a special participant in the production process which is worthy of attention.
Authorship is important within the context of copyright because as McCann points out: The
authorship concept, although highly visible in contemporary copyright law, usually appears as a
focus of consensus rather than debate. Authorship , as deployed in texts and in cultural
understandings, has been anything but a stable, inert foundation for the structure of copyright
doctrine. Rather, the ideologically charged

Essay on The Transcontinental Railroad And Westward...
The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of
America during the latter half of the nineteenth century.
The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways.
In the second half of the 1800 s, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on
Western expansion in the United States.
quot;Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between
cities, and large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse
population in a huge country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of

Romantics dreamed of the discoveries of wild Indians, scouts and hunters, and, of course, gold.
Gold had been a desired find throughout the exploration of America. The California Gold Rush of
1849 again created much excitement about the search for gold.
The Pacific Railroads were founded when the Civil War was in progress. Until the war was over,
the transcontinental railroad was a giant enterprise stalled by much bickering between a reluctant
Congress and the Army, who had clamored for it (Cooke 254). If it had been left to the government,
it would have taken another twenty years to complete the transcontinental railroad. However, it was
a commercial venture, and it was fortunately fed by the adrenaline of competition. There were two
railroad companies building the transcontinental railroad, the Union Pacific from the East, and the
Central Pacific from the West.
The two companies struggled to beat each other in slamming down a record mileage of track. At
first, Congress avidly pursued the project and they had stipulated that the Central Pacific should
stop when it reached the California Border
(Congress was full of Easterners). In 1865, after much argument about the aid the government was
providing to the two companies, the actual construction of the transcontinental railroad was started.
Then in 1866, Congress decided that two companies

The Discovery Of The Indigenous Native Peoples
In 1492, when Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean, he didn t anticipate the existence of the
indigenous native peoples that had inhabited the land for the past 10,000 years or more. Incidently,
Columbus didn t even consider that these people were native to the land or that he was on a new
founded continent. Colombus first considered them to be Indians from India but quickly he
realized his mistake. After gathering information and goods he returned home. In the 1500s Spanish
exploration led by conquistadors who led to the discovery of what would become known as the
PowhatanIndians after they found and kidnapped a young Algonquian boy. In 1607, the English
founded the colony of Jamestown in Virgina, just ten miles from the Powhatan capital of
Werowocomoco. The Powhatans were later forced to move their capital up the Chickahominy River
to Orapax to create distance between the Powhatans and the English settlers. The history between
the Powhatan Indians and the Europeans is a long one that passes through the early sixteenth
century to the late eighteenth century and even in the modern day era. Differences between the
Europeans and the Powhatans notoriously caused rivalry and conflict among them. The Algonquian
speaking Powhatan people were indigenous to the east coast of the North America. At it s largest,
the confederacy extended north of Alexandria along the Potomac River, south to the Neuse River

Biography Of Leopold s A Sand County Almanac Essay
Part A When one reads Aldo Leopold s A Sand County Almanac, it is difficult to not immediately
find yourself lost in Leopold s enchantment with the nature that surrounds him. Leopold describes,
month by month, the activities of the animals and nature around him in such a way that one is able
to truly appreciate the often missed miracles that are happening all around us. One can easily
deduct that the theme of A Sand County Almanacis very boldly proclaimed as Leopold s writings
tell us to pause for a moment to appreciate and conserve the beautiful world that surrounds us.
Let us consider the two key words of the theme, appreciate and conserve. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines the word appreciate as to, recognize the worth of ( Appreciate ). Leopold
wants society to take a moment to recognize the worth of nature by providing us with a
descriptive glance at elements of nature that we may often take for granted, such as animals
foraging for food or the history of a tree. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word
conserve as to, protect (something, especially something of environmental or cultural importance)
from harm or destruction ( Conserve ). Once we are able to appreciate nature, we become more
aware of the importance of conservation. When you do not care about nature, it is easy to overuse
and mistreat it in such a way that it harms the environment. On the contrary, if one is able to truly
appreciate nature, he or she is much more conscious about the

The Transformation Of Odysseus
The man of twists and turns is a fitting name for Odysseus, due to how he reacts and acts upon
situations. Odysseus has his intelligence to thank for all the problems he has found himself in,
which results in him being known for his slyness throughout kingdoms and the heavens. Instead of
always pulling out his sword whenever he gets the chance, he thinks of a strategy and does not
always depend on his strength to get him out of sticky situations. He uses his cleverness to help
him escape cyclops , gods, and goddesses wraths. Odysseusis known for the use of his intuition
instead of his might to overcome difficult obstacles thrown in his path. Odysseus has many people

Odysseus and his crew settled down inside the cave and waited for the cyclops to return. When
he returns to the cave they plead to him to let them be a guest in his home and tell him that Zeus
protects them, but the cyclops does not fear the gods so he kills two of the crew and keeps the
rest as prisoners. Odysseus and his crew cannot escape because there is a giant boulder they
cannot move blocking the exit of the cave. Odysseus knows that they cannot kill Polyphemus
because then they would never be able to leave because he is the only one who can move the
boulder. Odysseus devises a plan to escape by tricking Polyphemus into getting drunk, and then
telling the cyclops that Odysseus name is, Nobody that s [his] name, (9. 410). Eventually
Polyphemus passes out drunk, that is when Odysseus and his crew blind him. Polyphemus calls
out for help so his neighbors come and ask him what happened and he says, Nobody s killing me
now by fraud and not by force! (9. 455). His neighbors leave because they do not believe that
someone is injuring him. Odysseus comes up with a plan to hide in the wool of Polyphemus s
rams and when the cyclops lets the rams out of the cave the crew will escape and leave the
island. This situation shows how intelligent Odysseus truly is, and why he deserves the title of the
man of twists and turns. A hero needs to be a quick thinker and chose the best times to strike.
Odysseus kept a leveled head throughout the whole time while they were in the cave, and quickly
created a plan to get him and his crew out of

The Chorus Picking Sides In Sophocles Oedipus Rex
The Chorus: Picking Sides? In the second choral ode of Sophocles play Oedipus Rex, the chorus
seems to condemn the Theban citizens lack of respect for Delphi s oracles and the Gods. The
chorus thoroughly explains that the Gods themselves set forth the moral laws of the universe, and
nobody should dare to break these rules. The chorus noting that the father of these rules is greater
than Time, and ages not (46) emphasizes the Gods power and virtue. The phrases greater than
Time and ages not mimic repetition, and emphasize that the Gods will remains forever, and that
no one defies the Gods will with impunity. The chorus then discusses a possible punishment for
one s disrespecting Gods. The chorus saying that anyone who dare hold / no immortal power in
awe / Will be caught up in a net of pain (46) clearly stresses the importance of obeying the Gods.
However, in the chorus description of the Gods punishment, the chorus also... Show more content

The chorus advice, From blasphemy stand apart / Else the crackling blast of heaven / Blows on
his head, and on his desperate heart (46) exhibits the chorus lack of approval in the Gods
punishments. The contrast between one blasphemous act and God s crackling blast, likely a
euphemism for death, portrays the interaction between human and God as unjust. The chorus
description of the guilty man s heart as desperate emphasizes God s harsh, merciless nature. As the
chorus begins to doubt the Gods method of dealing with iniquity, the chorus then begins to
question whether or not the Gods are even fit to rule humans. That the chorus ponders, Zeus, if
indeed you are lord of all (47) clearly displays the chorus challenging the Gods authority directly.
Here, the chorus may wonder not only if Zeus rules over all humans, but also what qualifies Zeus
to rule all . Either way, both questioning the Gods existence and doubting the Gods ability to rule

Therefore the mass of the unknown object could be predicted based on the analysis of data
through the use of linear regression form. This is because the scared plots of the second graph
created best resemble a straight line, meaning that the unknown mass is predictable and can be
placed on the graph. An R2 value of one or close to one means the relation is fit and present. The
mass of the unknown object was determined through the use of the linear regression equation of
the second graph. The period of this unknown mass was squared and then inserted this number
into the period squared equation. The mass was determined to be between about 330g. Like in
any other experiment there is room for error, this room for error is present since the results are
based of numbers that aren t completely exact. The graph of period squared vs mass proved to
only be trusted after 300g, the graph for period vs mass had the same results. A questionable
scatter point that did arise was on the graph for period squared vs mass. In this graph a plot was
placed at .011 seconds which compared to the others is quite different. This could be the error in
the experiment, outside factors such as the force that was applied to the object could have
dramatically changed the results. In order to control this factor and get more accurate results the
experiment would have to factor that the same force be applied to each

  • 2. Essay On Stormbreaker First of all, in the novel Stormbreaker, 14 year old Alex Rider experiences things that a normal schoolboy would never experience. Having his uncle, Ian, assassinated because of his involvement in MI6, a secret intelligence agency for the British Government. The details told to Alex about his uncle s death were soon to be discovered as lies when he saw Ian s car in the junkyard with windows completely shattered as if it was shot at. He was told that Ian died in a car accident because he wasn t wearing a seat belt, however this was now confirmed as a lie. The picture I chose to represent this event is from the movie, a few seconds prior to Ian s assassination by the hands of Yassen Gregorovich. Second, once Alex finds out about the mission Ian took that led to his assassination, MI6 asked for his help. A 14 year old boy s help in the same mission that got his uncle, a professional spy, assassinated. The training began almost instantly since Alex didn t have a family that didn t want him to leave. His parents both died in an airplane accident a few weeks after he was born. Now, his uncle that took care of him was assassinated. The training Alex was put through worried the... As an undercover spy who supposedly was the lucky winner of a contest, getting a free trip to Sayle Enterprises to be the first one to test out the Stormbreaker. I thought this picture was a good way to represent Alex s testing of the Stormbreaker because he thought it was really useful. However, in reality, Sayle was loading all the Stormbreakers with a biological virus to start an epidemic. The helpfulness of the new computer was masking its true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Necessary And Proper Clause Essay Necessary and Proper Clause: Defined In Article 1 and section 8 of the Articles of the Constitution the necessary and proper clause is defined. This clause is many times referred to as the elastic clause as well. Its inclusion was to grant Congress the power and authority to carry out the enumerated powers. The implied powers that Congress also possess, were granted with this clause as a basis, these implied powers are required for Congress to execute the enumerated powers. Some examples include, the power to collect and levy taxes and revenue, the authority to also regulate currency and its value, as well as coining money. Without these specific powers, our government doesn t have the authority or power to charter a bank, regulate the national currency or the power to tax. The enumerated powers were clearly expanded with the inclusion of the implied powers. (Janda, Berry, Goldman, 2012) One of the basic principles of our Constitution,... He held a strong belief in the rights of the individual as well as the rights of property owners. He also saw the need and benefits of a strong unified central government. Although there were many attempts to force him to leave his seat on the court and therefore weaken the power of the court, these attempts fortunately all failed. He died while in office in July of 1835. ( John Marshall, 2014) In most of the federal regulations we have today, congressional authority is justified under the necessary and proper clause within the congressional interstate commerce power. This is different from the commerce clause, this power grants congress authority to make laws necessary and proper for carrying into execution, the power to regulate ... • 4. The Economic Impact Of Tourism Development In Developing... From the day due to people would have a high demand go out of their house and take a trip, the government has realized that tourism is one of the most important industry to develop their economies. Not only in developed countries in the world but also many developing countries have realized this. The rural communities of some developing countries have many problem and high unemployment. With this developmentof tourism, people in the rural can have more job options and boost their local economies. To develop the economy in rural communities and solve the difficulties, they have adopted tourism as a new economic developmentstrategy (Latkova, 2008). However, in some rural communities, the planners would not balance between the benefits and the drawbacks of tourism development. Therefore, many negative impacts of tourism like a large number of tourists, environmental pollution, and ruined legacy outweigh socio cultural, economic and also environmental advantages. As a result, it is crucial to understand the opinions of residents regarding future developing before starting any tourism development program (Latkova, 2008). Some previous studies about tourism development have demonstrated that it depends much on the goodwill, participation, and support of residents (Yoon, Gursoy, Chen, 2001). Following the findings of Yoon, Gursoy, and Chen, they suggested that tourism should be developed base on the needs and desires of residents. The fundamental for the success and developing ... • 6. Identity in Gertrude Stein s The Making of Americans Essay Identity in Gertrude Stein s The Making of Americans Throughout her career, Gertrude Stein was fascinated by the possibility of revolution in the sense of a complete or drastic change, especially in relation to her ideas of identity and agency. But critics disagree about her conclusions. For example, Bruce Goebel sees her early texts as embrac[ing a] deterministic attitude about the formation of identity (238) that conceives of identity as locked within historical and biological contexts. At the other extreme, many critics such as Caren Kaplan locate Stein s work within the context of expatriate modernism and so see it within the discourses which celebrat[e] the rootless traveler (7), cut loose from nation and history and thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (11) In The Use of Pleasure, the second volume of The History of Sexuality, Foucault emphasizes the possibilities for change and agency in his definition of the arts of existence : I am referring to what might be called the arts of existence. What I mean by the phrase are those intentional and voluntary actions by which men not only set themselves rules of conduct, but also seek to transform themselves, to change themselves in their singular being, to make their life into an oeuvre that carries certain aesthetic values and meets certain stylistic criteria. (10 11) Stein, too, is interested in her characters abilities to transform themselves in The Making of Americans. She describes Henry Dehning who in the process of growing up had made everything for himself very different so that he can no longer imagine his prior self: And it is strange how all forget when they have once made things for themselves to be very different. A man like Dehning never can feel it real to himself, things as they were in his early manhood, now that he has made his life and habits and his feelings all so different. He says it often, as we all do childhood and old age and pain and sleeping, but it can never anymore be really present to his feeling. • 7. Assault On Gun Control Assault on Gun Control Over the years gun control has been an issue that has been argued over and over. Some say stricter laws are needed to control the guns that are out in the public. Other say harsher background checks need to be done. Even gone as far as banning certain weapons that someone can own in the United States. But not matter what laws or restrictions are in place, the fact remains, guns don t kill people, people kill people. First, I want to define a question that people have. What is the definition of a mass shooting? Since I will be talking about this a little I want to define a mass shooting. There is not a specific definition of mass shooting, an accepted one says that an incident in which at least four people are shot (injured or killed) is considered a mass shooting. The FBI, only considers an incident a mass murder if three or more people are killed Lord (2017) So some of the facts or statistics may not be as correct as one would like. This is tough when trying to present an accurate figure during an argument. Everyone is so eager to jump on the band wagon to restrict or ban weapons or mainly semi/full automatic assault style weapons. They talk about the mass shootings of recent time; Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, 26 deaths, Route 91 Music Fest in Las Vegas, 58 deaths, and 26 deaths at the Baptist church in Texas. Nestel Keneally (2017) These are all because of semiautomatic or fully automatic weapons. These facts are true. But they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Essay on Shattered Glass Analysis The film Shattered Glass presents the ethical issues of fabrication and the deception of the writer, Stephen Glass, to his editor and co workers. He deliberately sensationalized his stories in order to gain his reader s attention. His facts were partially, if not completely, inaccurate and he presented notes that he fabricated as facts for each of his pieces at the New Republic. Journalists in the media have a duty to the people to report the truth and follow an ethical code whenever reporting stories. If I did not know anything about journalism, I would have to conclude from the film Shattered Glass that the purpose of journalism is to report the truth no matter what even if the story seems boring to you. Also as a fact checker/editor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of the New Republic, they were lucky that Stephen Glass unethical behavior was exposed or else the magazine could have suffered a great deal more than they already did having to admit that most of his articles were fabricated. Unethical journalism as a whole causes society to feel as if they can trust no one, which then leads people to feel as if they need to do their own research in order to obtain the truth. Falsifying information only further disrupts the trust between the media and society. Sports columnist Mitch Albom from the Detroit Free Press was investigated in April 2005, due to events he reported that did not happen. In his article he described two NBA players in the stands that were not even at the game. The Detroit Free Press disciplined Albom but did not state what type of punishment he would receive. In 2005, freelance writer Barbara Stewart of the Boston Globe fabricated a story about a Canadian seal hunt. She reported that the story had already happened, when in fact it had been delayed due to weather. She wrote as if she were at the hunt, when in fact she was not even at the site where the seal hunt occurred. Chris Cecil from the Daily Tribune News in Carterville, Georgia, was fired in 2005 when the Miami Herald let the Tribune know that part of Cecil s columns were taken from a columnist at the Herald. Eric Slater, a reporter for Los Angeles Times, was fired in 2005 after an article he wrote about a Cal State Fraternity. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Legal Memorandum on the Dissolution of Marriage Essays Legal Memorandum Topic Dissolution of marriage including child support and custody issues Facts Forest and Olive Green have decided to obtain a dissolution of marriage, after twenty years of marriage. She and Mr. Green have already had several arguments concerning child support arrangements for their children Kelly Green, age 14, and Moss Green, age 10. Mrs. Green thinks that it would be best for the children if she and Mr. Green had joint custody of the children. Along with this, Mrs. Green wants to be able to receive child support from Mr. Green because due to her lack of job experience she thinks it is unlikely that she can find a job that will support herself and the children. Mr. Green who is a corporate executive who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since Mr. and Mrs. Green intend on having joint custody of the children, it looks as if all aspects of rearing the children, including expenses as well as decision making would be shared among the parents. Although it is shared , that does not signify that it will be equally shared. The court will determine, based on the formula contained in the Kentucky Child Support Guidelines, what each parent pays. Furthermore, since Mrs. Green is without income as a homemaker, it seems as though some sort of child support payment should be paid in regards to the children while they are residing in her home. Also, if Mr. Green takes a job, earning less income due to health problems, this may affect the amount of child support he would be obligated to pay, but it shouldn t keep him from being required to pay some sort of child support. This job change can cause the court to deviate from the guidelines. However, the court may look at Mrs. Green s unemployment as being voluntary. Thus, the court may not use that issue in determining the child support Mr. Green should be obligated to pay. The court will probably not order Mrs. Green to obtain employment, but in looking at the facts, there is no valid reason as to her unemployment, and it may be in the ... • 10. The Atomic Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki The Atomic Bomb After World War I, no one, not even the Head of Chemical Warfare, suspected such a weapon would be dropped on civilians in the near future. Prior to the development of the atomic bomb in World War II, gas bombing and incendiary bombing were prevalent (Rotter 5). The race to create nuclear weapons and the excitement of succeeding technologically is thought to have distorted the morality of those who decided to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These atomic bombings are plausibly the first and last of their kind, as increasing nuclear programs in countries worldwide promise mutually assured destruction to countries associated in such an ordeal. In the future, all countries involved in a war will need to tread carefully, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ironically, approximately twenty years later, the United States of America was blamed for doing just that. Arguably, the entire Atomic Bomb situation began on August 2, 1939, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt received a letter revealing by purifying uranium 235 one had the potential to create a bomb. It also revealed the efforts in Nazi Germany to create a bomb (Bellis 1). In response to this letter, a secret government project called the Manhattan Project , began (Bellis 1). The Manhattan Project was top secret at the time, and served the purpose of creating and testing an atomic bomb(Bellis 1). Between 1939 and 1945 over two billion dollars were given to the Manhattan Project (Bellis 1). The scientists burdened with inventing such a bomb mostly originated from the University of Chicago (Bellis 1). To create an atomic bomb, a specific amount of enriched uranium must be used, to create a chain reaction (Bellis 1). The group of scientists, headed by Enrico Fermi and J. Robert Oppenheimer, created a pile of forty five metric tons of natural uranium embedded in solid graphite (Bellis 1). Although the reaction was slowed because the uranium 235 was not extracted, it was considered successful (Bellis 1). The next step was to extract the uranium 235, and create a real bomb (Bellis 1). The way to go about this creation was difficult. The ratio of uranium to uranium ore is five hundred to one. The one part in that ratio is ninety nine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The First Commander I Will Talk About Is Heinrich Himmler There were many leaders in the Waffen SS, such as Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Paul Hausser, Theodor Eicke, Felix Steiner, Kurt Meyer and Joachim Peiper. And I researched the 4 leaders mainly: Heinrich Himmler, Joseph Dietrich, Felix Steiner and Paul Hausser. The first commander I will talk about is Heinrich Himmler. Figure.1 Himmler in early SS uniform Heinrich Himmler was a ceremonial chief of the Waffen SS, a leading member of the Nazi Party, and Himmler was the one of the most powerful men in Nazi Germany and one of the persons most directly responsible for the Holocaust. Himmler joined the party in 1923, and he was not a powerful leader at that time. Upon the resignation of the SS leader Erhard Heiden, Himmler was assumed as a commander of the SS by Hitler s approval, and he carried out his duties at propaganda headquaters. • 12. Essay On Good Vs Evil Archetypes Most stories, movies, and myths have the simple archetype of Good vs. Evil. This particular archetype can often be confusing, because in stories the reader is often lead to believe that something or someone represents good or evil, but it does not. More often than not the evil character is either crazy or was raised wrongly. Evil characters in Good vs. Evil stories are often not truly evil but either mental unstable or not taught right from wrong. The entirety of the Inheritance series is based on two archetypes, Good vs. Evil and Man vs. Man. These two archetypes are the underlying archetypes. Each book also has its own archetypes that overlays the first two mentioned. Paul most clearly displays his strength on the each of these levels when a bombardment begins to rip apart the graveyard in which he and his comrades had been resting. A single reading of the passage reveals the first level upon which Paul excels: as a soldier. His training in No. 9 platoon under Corporal Himmelstoss made sure that he would not be killed the moment he stepped foot in the trenches, but the knowledge that he displays in this time of crisis did not come from parade grounds or noncommissioned officers; it came from months of trench warfare, from experience under fire, and from the natural instinct to make the right choices when it matters most. Not only the revenue or profit is critical in the construction industry, but market intelligence and construction procurement knowledge are also important. The bidding process in the construction industry is illustrated by many different involved parties including the architectural and engineering firms, client, general contractors, material suppliers, specialized contractors, manufacturers, etc. (Halaris, 2001). Preparing proposed documents, appraising bids, and awarding the contract to the winner of the bid are among the major duties of the client (Gokhan et al, 2006). (Gokhan et al, 2006) Fig. 1. Bid proposal preparation process Sub contracting has comprehensively been used in the construction industry. It allows general contractors to employ the lowest workforce in construction projects and promotes specialization (Maturana, 2005). Many general contractors only play a role as construction management agents in construction projects, for example, they sub contract a large volume of their work to sub contractors (Shash, 1998). The Importance Of Biodiversity The 3.7 billion years of the earth s biological history can be summarized as follows: Organisms convert energy into food, chemical elements perform their cycles, and species perform different biological functions (niches) evolving in response to changes according to conditions environmental impacts. This implies that today, every specieson the planet has gone through an evolutionary process and that each individual performs their role in the ecosystem. Like the many species in the world, we human beings (thanks to certain characteristics that allow us to adapt and modify the environment) have been able to increase our chances of survival on earth and this has led us to a gigantic population and economic growth, which we call Development. However, such a development makes the degradation of natural resources increasingly fast, making it imperative and necessary to establish conservation oriented guidelines, since biodiversityis of the utmost importance for the functioning of the ecosystem. BIODIVERSITY Biodiversity or biological diversity is a term used very well to describe the richness and variety of all living things in the world; from plants and animals to microorganisms and beings a thousand times more complex. The French invasion of Italy was not only an early part of the Gunpowder Revolution and the beginning of the modern age of warfare, but it was one of the first attempts at building nation states. At the time, Italy was divided into several city states, sovereign regions formed by a city and its surrounding territories. Due to the small size of many city states, their defense was turned over to mercenary captains, condottieri. The paid men who formed compagnie (companies) under the condottieri were most often foreigners who lacked loyalty to their paymasters. On the other hand, as France expanded and took over city states such as Armagnac, Burgundy, Provence, Anjou, and Brittany, they would become a part the French nation and its military. Upon arrival in Australia they are moved to detention centres. Detention centres hold people who have come without a visa, any non national and all unauthorised boat arrivals (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2014). These centres hold refugees for indefinite periods and in poor conditions. They are used as a spectacle to represent illegality and a threat to Australian society (Marfleet, 2007, p672). The spectacle of detention centres does not only lie within public perception but also within the architecture of the facility (Grinceri, 2016, p170 171). The barbed wired fence of detention centres is an example. It allows the spectators (citizens) to witness the enclosure of refugees while simultaneously binding refugees within its constraints, punishingly (Pugilese, 2008, p206 207). The visibility provided by the wired fence enables photography and videoing, thus acting as a spectacle. This spectacle is related to the ideals of torture. They are tortured and punished based on exclusions and exception. The refugees held in detention centres form the exception. They are the Other which no one wishes to become and are a danger to society. Those tortured are viewed as deserving because they are seen as a threat. Despite his criticisms on politics, Socrates is essentially reminding the people, especially those in authority, to serve a just and virtuous life. Outwardly stating the current situation of the government, he aims to provide the people a portrait of the shallow kind of democracy that they have come to maintain. Socrates seeks to prompt the majority to uphold the true sense of democracy, of fighting for justice and living life accordingly. Furthermore, Socrates uses his dialectical approach with his friend Crito in examining the contrast between the knowledge of the one and the pseudo knowledge of the many . He uses an analogy of a man involved in physical activities, whom must listen to the advice of the true expert in his training, rather than the opinions thrown by other people who barely know anything about these activities. • 26. Inferential and Descriptive Statistics Before we continue the discussion about the basic descriptive data elements that are needed to answer the question I previously posed, it is important to understand what we mean by descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics describe the features of the data collected. In other words, descriptive statisticsdescribe what the data looks like, but it does not tell you why or how data elements interact or influence one another. Descriptive statistics provide a defender with summaries about the data collected and these summaries may be either quantitative or visual. Quantitative descriptive statistics are the sum of data points that are usually reported as total numbers or averages in a report. For example, defender offices can use descriptive statistics to determine the total of open felony cases per attorney in one year or say that on average they had x number of open cases in the last two years. These are considered to be summaries of caseloads that describe the data collected but it does not tell you if a certain variable (number of cases opened in this example) has an influence (or is correlated) with the final outcome of a case. When we say that a variable is correlated we mean that the knowledge of a certain variable (caseload numbers) can allow you to consistently predict the action of another (final dispositional outcomes). For example, if you mix two hydrogen and one oxygen (H20), you get water. We know that every time you have the interaction of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Representatives of most IT companies, particularly call centers, use cloud computing software to allow connectivity and sharing of resources in company data centers (Beverakis, Dick, Cecez Kecmanovic, 2009). Cloud computing software is an advanced tool used in outsourcing, particularly for communications, because of the capacity to collect and access massive amounts of data. This software is commonly operated in a data center, which allows access to associated data in a variety of ways (Anthes, 2010). Because most call centers operate using cloud computing, third party IT contracting security is a primary concern (Anthes, 2010; Gatewood, 2009). Because of lack of acceptance from the male dominant society, Indian women suffer immensely. Women are responsible for bearing children, yet they are malnourished and in poor health. Women are also overworked in the fields and complete all of the domestic work. Most Indian women are uneducated. Mothers create the foundation stone on which children can build their careers and grow to become respectable citizens. The family is the foundation for building sustaining any nation and women is an important aspect of a family. Family participation should not be limited to their children only but must also include children of relatives, neighbors and the less privileged. Since people do not live in isolation, we must encourage mothers to participate in the parenting of people in and outside of their own families. Young and even older children must also participate in supporting the family activities on a regular basis. Through family participation, values can be instilled that will build and sustain a great nation. My views A woman is an architect of society. She establishes the institution of family life, builds the home, brings up the children and makes them good citizens. Her strength in totality contributes in the making of an ideal family, ideal society and an ideal state. The title of lord is inherited or assigned as a positional power granted by landowners. The Chief is chosen by the people to make the right decisions for their advantage. It is an earned position of trust. Based on my interpretation of Lao Tzu s quote, my definition of leadershipis to have others follow by choice not by mere power. A person cannot rule by force granted to them by rank and expect subordinates to follow blindly. They must demonstrate leading by example and be a role model for others to admire. It is of great importance to understand the meaning behind what this means by looking at copyright laws and what it means to the music industry. One characteristic of intellectual property rights is copyright. This means that it can be bought or sold like any other form of property (McCann 1998). McCann states that the creator of an artistic piece of work is the first owner of a copyright. The owner has the exclusive rights to do or to authorize anyone else to do certain things with the whole or any extensive part of the work. The author and or the creator is at the centre of the copyright paradigm as a separate and discrete body or entity. This is because the concept of the writer or composer is a special participant in the production process which is worthy of attention. Authorship is important within the context of copyright because as McCann points out: The authorship concept, although highly visible in contemporary copyright law, usually appears as a focus of consensus rather than debate. Odysseus knows that they cannot kill Polyphemus because then they would never be able to leave because he is the only one who can move the boulder. Odysseus devises a plan to escape by tricking Polyphemus into getting drunk, and then telling the cyclops that Odysseus name is, Nobody that s [his] name, (9. 410). Eventually Polyphemus passes out drunk, that is when Odysseus and his crew blind him. Polyphemus calls out for help so his neighbors come and ask him what happened and he says, Nobody s killing me now by fraud and not by force! (9. 455). His neighbors leave because they do not believe that someone is injuring him. Odysseus comes up with a plan to hide in the wool of Polyphemus s rams and when the cyclops lets the rams out of the cave the crew will escape and leave the island. This situation shows how intelligent Odysseus truly is, and why he deserves the title of the man of twists and turns. A hero needs to be a quick thinker and chose the best times to strike. Odysseus kept a leveled head throughout the whole time while they were in the cave, and quickly created a plan to get him and his crew out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Chorus Picking Sides In Sophocles Oedipus Rex The Chorus: Picking Sides? In the second choral ode of Sophocles play Oedipus Rex, the chorus seems to condemn the Theban citizens lack of respect for Delphi s oracles and the Gods. The chorus thoroughly explains that the Gods themselves set forth the moral laws of the universe, and nobody should dare to break these rules. The chorus noting that the father of these rules is greater than Time, and ages not (46) emphasizes the Gods power and virtue. The phrases greater than Time and ages not mimic repetition, and emphasize that the Gods will remains forever, and that no one defies the Gods will with impunity. The chorus then discusses a possible punishment for one s disrespecting Gods. The chorus saying that anyone who dare hold / no immortal power in awe / Will be caught up in a net of pain (46) clearly stresses the importance of obeying the Gods. However, in the chorus description of the Gods punishment, the chorus also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chorus advice, From blasphemy stand apart / Else the crackling blast of heaven / Blows on his head, and on his desperate heart (46) exhibits the chorus lack of approval in the Gods punishments. The contrast between one blasphemous act and God s crackling blast, likely a euphemism for death, portrays the interaction between human and God as unjust. The chorus description of the guilty man s heart as desperate emphasizes God s harsh, merciless nature. As the chorus begins to doubt the Gods method of dealing with iniquity, the chorus then begins to question whether or not the Gods are even fit to rule humans. That the chorus ponders, Zeus, if indeed you are lord of all (47) clearly displays the chorus challenging the Gods authority directly. Here, the chorus may wonder not only if Zeus rules over all humans, but also what qualifies Zeus to rule all . Either way, both questioning the Gods existence and doubting the Gods ability to rule disrespect the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Lab Experiment The following lab report will determine if the mass of the unknown object be predicted based on the analysis of previous data. The purpose of this lab experiment is to find the mass of an unknown object. The way this experiment will be accomplished is through a use of the line regression method. This lab will begin with eight objects whose massis known to see if there is a perfect fit relation between the mass of the objects to the period that is being tested. This lab consists of the use of five materials that included a standard masses, a stopwatch, tape, a C clamp, and an internal balance. The procedure was simple, measure the time it took eight masses to get to ten periods cycles within the internal balance and record the results. One... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the mass of the unknown object could be predicted based on the analysis of data through the use of linear regression form. This is because the scared plots of the second graph created best resemble a straight line, meaning that the unknown mass is predictable and can be placed on the graph. An R2 value of one or close to one means the relation is fit and present. The mass of the unknown object was determined through the use of the linear regression equation of the second graph. The period of this unknown mass was squared and then inserted this number into the period squared equation. The mass was determined to be between about 330g. Like in any other experiment there is room for error, this room for error is present since the results are based of numbers that aren t completely exact. The graph of period squared vs mass proved to only be trusted after 300g, the graph for period vs mass had the same results. A questionable scatter point that did arise was on the graph for period squared vs mass. In this graph a plot was placed at .011 seconds which compared to the others is quite different. This could be the error in the experiment, outside factors such as the force that was applied to the object could have dramatically changed the results. In order to control this factor and get more accurate results the experiment would have to factor that the same force be applied to each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
