Many children s films are very black and white, evil and good, wrong and right, but
Coco does a wonderful job of exploring the gray areas and how you don t always
have to take sides completely.
Visually, the movie is stunning and the animation is flawless. Even minor
movements like falling or walking will affect objects around the characters in
fascinating ways. Seeing Miguel walk across a lead ridden rooftop and having each
step disrupt the leaves around him is truly a joy from a technical standpoint. The
skeletons in the Land of the Dead interact with the world in unique and fun ways that
further immerse viewers.
The most impressive part of the movie to me was how interconnected and well
thought out the story was. Disney songs are always fun and do an excellent job of
explaining a situation or character, but Coco uses its main song as a vital plot point
that connects the story as a whole. The characters have a set goal and everything they

In Eleven, Sandra Cisneros focuses the narrative on an embarrassing moment in
the life of the main character. This moment occurs on her eleventh birthday when
she is being blamed for a ugly red sweater and is stunned by her lack of confidence
