My Egg Autobiography
For my egg I took a piece of cardboard and cut it into a small square. Following that I cut three
slits in the cardboard in the form of a smaller square. I then took small popsicle sticks and put
them into the holes in the cardboard and then hot glued them to the cardboard. To lessen the
impact I took rubber bands and attached them across the cardboard from the popsicle sticks. I
also did the same on the top with the egg in between. I also slowed the fall by creating a
parachute. To make the parachute I cut it out of a trash bag. After cutting the bag I cut six pieces
of yarn at eighteen inches each. The I taped the yarn to the bag at even places on the bag followed
by the same on the cardboard. When attaching the yarn

Colombia Research Paper
The Other Side of Colombia Travel adds interesting dimensions to a person s life. Some people
find difficulty and unfamiliarity to be compelling reasons to avoid travel, while others thrive on the
adventure of new and unknown destinations. I ve been fortunate to embrace the latter, and have
travelled and lived in many places, and a few countries. Colombiawas my home for just over two
years. The people, places, customs and food are spectacular! The reputation of illicit activities are
confined and few, and I experienced none. There is a very progressive governmental structure, and
Colombia does not have any border issues at this time. The people are welcoming, friendly, and
enjoyable to socialize with. I lived in Barranquilla, a city of nearly two million inhabitants, and is...

Non Civil Rights Issues In Education
The most glaring issue when it comes to talking about non civil rights problems in the current
administration is global warming. We as humans across the world have put our future generations
in danger. It should be our responsibility to right the wrongs the best that we can before it gets late.
Unfortunately, the current administration would like us to think that global warming not only isn t
an issue, but that it does not exist at all. This shows a basic lack of responsibility and an uncaring
callousness that got us into this situation in the first place. To look at statistical data and numbers,

How To Be A Football Superstar Essay
How a Football Superstar is born Football is a team sport; every single member of the team must

working out in the gym, isn t that difficult for some people, but for most it s the hardest step to
do on a constant, continuous basis. Working out isn t that hard is you keep in mind your reason

Difference Between A Growth Mindset
The difference between a growth mindset is that they see it as a chance to grow and develop
their intelligence even if they didn t succeed at first that person will try even if they have failed

need to put a lot of effort in it or practice more if they re good at it. My mindset about my
intelligence and abilities have mostly been a fixed mindset when it comes to stuff I don t

Athenian Democracy Essay
Athens is the city state which is considered to be the place where democracy was created even
though people often dispute whether Athens was a true democracy. Democracy is a cultural idea,
justice to all people, people s power, and people having the right to vote, essentially democracy is
all about the people. These characteristics make Athens a true democracy. Democracy is a cultural
idea change over time. Professor Hansen stated that Demokratia, the Greek word for democracy,
means the rule of the male citizens only. Later on, he announced, the concept of the demos to mean
the adult male citizens. In Athens because of the word demos, their laws circumvented the idea of
ruling men. The Athenian laws, where men could only vote, were democratic... Show more content

Comparing Horror In Psycho And Stephen King s The Shining
Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho and Stephen King s The Shining both explore the theme of horror
through the use of the key techniques; characterisation, motifs, symbols and setting. The texts are
about psychologically disturbed protagonists and the events that they are involved in. Psycho was
published in 1960 whereas the Shiningwas published in 1977, both timeworn novels. In Psycho,
Bates is unable to contain the guilt of murdering is mother and therefore, murders those who he
feels sexually attracted to. However, in The Shining, Jack Torrance, an aspiring writer and
recovering alcoholic accepts a position to be caretaker of the Overlook Hotel with his wife and
son Danny. Danny s psychic powers allow him to see the hotel s horrific past, as the snowstorm
leads to the hotel becoming isolated, supernatural forces influence Jack s sanity and lead his family
in great danger. The Shining s Jack Torrance and Psycho s Norman Batesare psychotic murders who
through different circumstances develop their murderous person. Both characters developed their
murderous traits through childhood memories. Jack developed his through multiple bashings from

The Promethic Illness
Circling a yellow wallpapered room, sticking your head in the oven, running wildly around town in
the nude; these are the visions we associate with when the word madness comes to mind.
Entering the taboo world of mental illness, stigmatized as the crazy and psychotic by decades of
misunderstanding, Marya Hornbacher takes a step towards reversing those damages by telling her
own story in a memoir titled Madness: A Bipolar Life, in an attempt to shed some light and insight
on the world of manic depression. She details her struggle with the disease that spawned multitudes
of problems for her all throughout her life. To examine how she... Show more content on

She depicted this through creating coherent sentences with a focus, content wise and structural
wise, sentences with less comma splices. For example the author wrote: I put myself back in
Fung 3 my chair, as if I am a little kid who refuses to eat her peas and is not allowed to leave her
place until she finishes every last bite. I take a swig, set the bottle down, and study it as the liquor
burns a path down my throat (124). The sentences are noticeably shorter with no manipulated
structure for emphasis, per say contrary to how she portrayed her manic thought. In addition her
focus was much more reigned in for she wasn t speeding through unrelated topics and stringing
them together into a run on sentence. To speculate, her sentences focused solely on her immediate
surroundings, she wrote of sitting in her chair and taking a drink out of her bottle as she described
how it felt going down rather than jittering on going up and down, describing the sky, then the land
and back again (122). Toying with sentence structure, Marya successfully reproduced the pace of
her mental state into her writing.
To illuminate how drastic her condition was, the author employed juxtaposition to emphasize the
mania. Using a system of extreme contrariety, she effectively exemplified the magnitude of her
mental state; the low to dramatize the high. In the previous

MAD and Boomerst throughout the Cold War
In the aftermath of World War II, tensions heightened between the two dominant powers: America
and the USSR. The differences between the ideologies of the communist USSR and the capitalist
United States led to a rapid deterioration in relations. The era between 1945, which marked the end
of World War II, to 1991, when the Soviet Union dissolved, became known as the Cold War
due to
the fact that despite the lack of large scale conflict, both sides still feared a nuclear holocaust. Both
the United States and the Soviet Union followed the military strategy of mutually assured
destruction (MAD), meaning that neither side was willing to risk first attack lest the other nation
retaliate massively . The fundamental tenet behind MAD that enabled it to serve as an effective
deterrent was the idea of secondary strike capability. In essence, it was the ability of a nation to
launch a counterattack and thereby ensure mutual destruction. Submarinelaunched ballistic missiles
(SLBMs) fulfilled this criteria admirably due to their ability to stay submerged for extended periods
of time, the difficulty involved with locating a submarine, and their invulnerability to nuclear
missile attacks when submerged. As a result, the United States attempted to corner this leg of the
nuclear triad. In 1949, the United States signed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
with the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and other capitalist states . Through this treaty, the
countries agreed to defend each

Stereotypes In Spirited Away
We all are influenced daily, whether it is negative or positive, it depends on who or what
situations you put yourself in. Sometimes you don t have a choice what happens to you, we see
this in the film Spirited Away when Chihiro is transported to another world . Before put in the
other world Chihiro is your typical kid this time around, stubborn and not accepting change. We
learn this by listening to the dialogue about her new school. It s gonna stink, I liked my old
school . Then her parents are turned into pigs and she is transported to the other world as i call it.
During her time there, she worked in the bath house. This is a good example of character growth,

Chihiro leads him up and out of the bath house where he settles down and finds himself again. In
both cases, Yubaba s baby and No face both had a very negative influence, After being brought

From time segment 4:00 to 5:10 (video 1), I use Socratic questioning to promote deeper level

asked a student to tell me what his data suggested. The student responded that his data suggested
that the wave speeds should be equal. His response was accurate; however, I had him expand the
answer by asking him to tell me why his wave speeds were supposed to be the same. The student
thought about it and realized that the medium a long spring was always the same; this made his
answer better, and he then understood that waves in the same medium propagate with the same

If I hand out different questions to each group so they can address them during the presentations, a
variety of perspectives will ease student understanding of the standing waves concept; students
would be required to take notes and to include them in their lab reports. This is a great idea because
collaboration significantly improves critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
The academic performance benefits of collaborative and cooperative learning have been known for
decades because Robert E. Slavin suggested, back in 1980, that students engaged in cooperative or
collaborative learning perform better academically than students learning through traditional lecture
methods of instruction; his results are still supported today. In addition, Bruce Joyce corroborates
that learning through group investigations emphasizes social development, academic skills, and
personal understanding (2015). Based on these, it is safe to assume that engaging students in
collaborative presentations will enhance their learning and will help them progress towards meeting
the learning targets. This will also focus the lesson more on the students and less on

Philip Zimbardo is known for his famous prison experiment that revealed some important facts
about human nature. This type of experiment had never been done before. The Stanford prison
experiment was designed to find out whether the brutality reported among guards in American
prisons was due to the sadistic personalities of the guards or had more to do with the prison
environment (McLeod 1). Zimbardo was influenced by the Milgram experiment, which was a study

The Bible And Aeneas s Life
As a follower of their respective God or gods, both Job in the Bible and Aeneas in the Aeneid
suffer while doing their duties, yet they stay faithful and persistent to their obligations, despite
constant suffering. While Job s suffering tests his faith in God, Aeneas suffering differs as his
pietas, or duty is tested. Job and Aeneasdo not know the fate set forth by the gods, yet after enduring
a great amount of sufferingthey reach relief and the knowledge of their fate. An important
difference is that Job s fate is the compensation for what he had lost and reinforcement of his faith
in God, while Aeneas s fate is a loss of pietas.
Job, blameless and upright , is described as a man who follows God and turns away from evil
showing that he tenaciously fulfils his duties to God and makes it a priority that he lives by
(Job 1.1). He is challenged in a bet between God and Satan that he will only be faithful to God
when everything is going well for him; God chooses to test Satan s theory (Job. 1.8 12). Job
endures great suffering, but what makes him a pious man is that ultimately he shows the depth
of his faith in God, despite the harsh suffering he endures. A paragon of his faithfulness to God
is shown when he is given four sets of bad news: his oxen, donkeys, sheep, camels, servants and
all 10 of his children were killed or stolen (Job 1.15 19). After hearing the news, Job fell on the
ground and worshipped , saying that he came from [his] mother s womb

The Life Of A Beautiful Mantelpiece Sat An Unusual Bust Of...
Upon a beautiful mantelpiece sat an unusual bust of one Jane Austen. This bust was flanked by that
of Aristotle and Homer, leaving little space for anything else on the mantelpiece. Virtues for the
earthly realm and for the gain of the heavenly realm are ones that are in a continual dispute.
MacIntyre try to shed light on some the virtues that are taken up by Benjamin Franklinin his life to
achieve earthly and heavenly success. Malsbary adds onto this study of virtues by taking a close
look at one virtuein particular. Virtue has come through history, changing in some ways and
staying the same in other ways. Many people have seen virtues as the way to complete the life of
man. Homer saw virtue as that which fulfilled the social role the each man was born to take.
Virtue was to do what one ought to do in their stature of life. Aristotle then came and spoke of
virtue as an end. The internal fulfillment of the good of man has a nature end on earth. The
Christian understanding of virtue was that which led to the supernatural end as the goal for the
good of man. Aristotle and the Christian understanding both acknowledge the end of virtues is that
of the good of man. Thus were the older forms of virtue. Next, history comes upon the virtues of
Benjamin Franklin. The man, who practiced the art of mind and body, rhetoric and exercise,
devised a different set of virtues that was to be used for the sake of utility in earthly and heavenly
success. He thought that the virtues needed

his notable structures include Monticello (his home), Poplar Forest which was his retreat, the
University of Virginiawhich he founded as well as other homes which he designed for his political
allies and friends, a good example being Barboursville. His style gained popularity in the early
American period. Similarly, it was during the same time that the more conventional Greek Revival
architecture was gaining popularity with his help. With his architectural designs, he later came to
define America s national identity and culture.
Background
Most famously recognized as the father of the National Architecture in America, Thomas Jefferson
sought to make American ideals and its culture unique from that of Europe, from where they had
their origins ( Architecture is My Delight n.p). At the time Jefferson was developing his
architectural skills, America was undergoing its revolution and therefore it needed an identity of its
own, something that made it standout; and that is what Jefferson had set out to achieve. In a letter
he wrote to James Madison regarding the project of the Virginia State Capitol while on a tour of
Europe (Paris, France), Jefferson states, I am an enthusiast on the subject of

Essay On Karl Marx Exploitation Theory
Karl Marx: management practices, exploitation and manipulation.
In his book ( removed HTML ) , Karl Marx examined the labour process in capitalism economic
and explained how capitalists exploit the labouring classes by appropriating the surplus value
produced by labour, which is the value or output in excess of the value of their wages. The
concept of the exploitation theory applies to the labour process in all class divided societies, not
only capitalism [Buchanan, 1979]. Workers are either forced to work by their feudal lord under
feudalism or by their lack of ownership of the means of production under capitalism. Marx s
exploitation theory implies there is always exploitation as long as there is profit. Since Marx
developed his exploitation theory hundreds years ago, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly the capitalists expect a fair profit on the risk of capital investment, otherwise capitalists won
t invest. Therefore workers won t have job. Secondly the add value from the management practices
should not be taken for granted. Marx also did not foresee the evolution of capitalism and the role
for the governments. Capitalism has to promote mandatory humanity and working conditions
required by the government regulators and pressure of the society. Capitalists cannot force workers
to work for long hours any more. And in the free labour market, they also have to pay workers the
market price for the work they do; otherwise the workers would go to other places. Capitalists
cannot exploit workers like the way they did hundreds years ago. Many organizations (capitalists)
turn to management practices to improve efficiency and productivity, so they can reduce the cost of
production and in return increase the profit. Are management practices and exploitation or
manipulation? In order to answer this question, firstly we need to understand the definition of
management; secondly we examine one management practice in the

HTML5 And The Future Of Technical Documentation
HTML5 and the Future of Technical Documentation By: Jessica Morley
May 2015 Introduction: A Crossroad in History
T
echnical writing is at a crossroad in history. Gone are the days when people read technical
documentation from print in manuals, books, inserts, or pamphlets. Likewise, the practice of
reading documentation from a CD Rom or desktop software application is quickly becoming a
thing of the past. Today, if people want technical information, they go straight to their browsers to
find what they re looking for.
With the advent of handheld smart phones, laptops, and tablets, teamed with the ubiquity of reliable
internet connection everywhere, people demand versatile, responsive, and accessible
documentation that can meet their information needs. HTML5, the new HTML standard officially
recommended in October 2014, is the World Wide Web Consortium s (W3C s) answer to this new
age of high speed on demand information, and technical writers are beginning to take notice.
However, the question remains: should technical writers adapt to this new wave of technology, and
if so, to what extent will HTML5 impact the user experience and the technical writing process?
There are a growing number of technical writers who are just shy of entirely enthusiastic for this
brave new world of technology. Peter Lubbers, an experienced technical writer, published author,
and current Senior Program Manager at Google, is one such individual who may tip the scale on
the enthusiasm

Rate of Respiration in Yeast Essay
Rate of Respiration in Yeast
Aim: I am going to investigate the rate of respiration of yeast cells in the presence of two
different sugar solutions: glucose, sucrose. I will examine the two solutions seeing which one
makes the yeast respire faster. I will be able to tell which sugar solution is faster at making the
yeast respire by counting the number of bubbles passed through 20cm of water after the yeast and
glucose solutions have been mixed.
Prediction: I predict that the glucose solution will provide the yeast with a better medium by
which it will produce a faster rate of respiration. This is because glucose is the simplest type of
carbohydrate (monosaccharide). However sucrose is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas the large molecule food (Sucrose) will take longer to break down because of its large
molecules, this will waste the energy of the yeast as it has to break down the large molecules into
smaller molecules before it can use them.
This means that the sucrose is not as efficient as the glucose at providing the yeast with a better
medium by which it will produce a faster rate of respiration.
Theory: Yeast is a single celled fungus. It feeds saprophytically (secreting enzymes from cells)
the enzymes digest the food on which the yeast is living. The enzymes digest the food the yeast
is living on (normally sugars such as Glucose and Sucrose) breaking down the large molecules
into smaller ones. It takes longer to break down the large molecules making them less efficient
than the smaller molecules. This means that the yeast does not need to do any work when
provided with small molecule foods such as glucose. The small molecule foods allow the yeast to
respire easily.
The glucose should allow the yeast to respire more because it is already a small molecule sugar
whereas the sucrose is a large molecule sugar this will mean that the yeast can use the glucose
straight away without breaking it down, whereas with the sucrose it has to break it down into a
simple sugar before it can use it this will take time

The Facts About Educational and Roth IRA’s Essays
The Facts About Educational and Roth IRA s
In 1997 great things came into play for the taxpayers. The Tax Reform Act of 1997, which was
inacted by the IRS, allowed single taxpayers and married taxpayers a considerable amount of tax
relief for the Educational and Roth IRA s. Individual Retirement Accounts, also known as IRA s,
are accounts opened in an individual s name only and provide tax deferred savings for retirement.
The contributions may be fully deductible, partially deductible, or nondeductible.
All IRA s have the same basic characteristics that enable customers to save money while gaining
benefits that may include tax deferred savings and tax deductions. An IRA is a product in which
customers place additional products ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also with the Traditional IRA there are certain taxes which become due after a certain age. After
age 59 1/2 income tax is due on earnings and the original contributions are withdrawn tax free
(smartmoney, the ira super page, 2000).
In 1998 an additional way for individuals to save for retirement was introduced to the public as a
Roth IRA. These Roth IRA s are a terrific tax break, especially for individuals previously shut out
of the deductible IRA game because their incomes were too high. Here s why. Unlike traditional
IRA s, Roth contributions are nondeductible. But the earnings build up tax free (SmartMoney,
you wanted to know, 2000). Another great point about the Roth IRA is the fact that any
withdrawals are free of federal income tax under certain circumstances. To be free from federal
tax the Roth IRA must have been open at least five years and your age must be 59 1/2 or older.
To be eligible for a Roth IRA you must have an adjusted gross income (AGI) between $95,000
and $110,000 for single filers and between $150,000 and $160,000 for joint filers. Also with the
IRA you are not able to contribute more than $2,000 annually per person. With the Roth IRA there
are no taxes due if funds are held in the account for at least five years and you are at least age 59 1

Anorexia Vs Bulimia
Eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia cause dramatic weight fluctuation, interfere with
normal daily life, and can permanently affect their health.Generally, eating disorders involve
self critical, negative thoughts and feelings about body weight and food, and eating habits that
disrupt normal body function and daily activities. People with anorexia have an extreme fear of
weight gain and a distorted view of their body size and shape. As a result, they strive to maintain
a very low body weight. Some restrict their food intake by dieting, fasting, or excessive exercise.
People with anorexia try to eat as little as possible, and take in as few calories as they can,
frequently obsessing over food intake. Bulimia is characterized by habitual binge eating and
purging.
Some research suggests that media images contribute to the rise in the incidence of eating
disorders. Most celebrities in advertising, movies, TV, and sports programs are very thin, and this
may lead girls to think that the ideal of beauty is extreme thinness. ... Show more content on

A Reflection On My Experience With Grief And Bereavement...
On April 6, 2016, I shadowed Megan in 7C and PICU, which was an eventful day full of thought
provoking and noteworthy patient interactions and child life centered conversations. This was my
second time in 7C/PICU but my first time shadowing Megan. It was intriguing to see how two
different CCLS s handled the same units. Through my shadowing experience and observations, I
gained knowledge of how to handle grief/bereavement situations, how to properly prioritize
patients, charting techniques, and much more. This week I was able to reflect back to my
knowledge of development so that I could better relate our coursework to my practicum
experiences. In this journal, I will focus on two main patient interactions, both, which were unique,
thought provoking, and relatable to developmental theory and coursework. I will also briefly
discuss the knowledge I gained on how a CCLS can provide support during grief and bereavement
situations.
The first interaction I observed/participated in was with an 8 year old male in the PICU who was
coping with injuries from a major automobile accident and lice. Megan and I entered the room
where the patient was playing with a remote control car. His nurse had created a racetrack out of
toys and items in his hospital room. It was refreshing to see a nurse who valued play enough to
take the time to create a playful environment for her patient. Megan swiftly built rapport, explained
her role, and offered normative play opportunities. The patient was

Albus Dumbledore said to Harry once, It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
Dumbledore was attempting to teach Harry the importance of recognizing what he had been blessed

religion got involved which eventually caused the downfall of their dynasty. The Song Dynasty

A New Way Of Distributed Or Cloud Computing
The very way of distributed or cloud computing is such that it enables organisations to influence
manpower, all the more rapidly and according to organisation needs. This is on the grounds that
distributed computing helps in distributing workloads across the organisation and can be
remotely accessed by end clients, regardless of their location. Organisations could even hire a
worldwide and, maybe, less expensive workforce when they use distributed computing.
Additionally, resources and staff can be immediately scaled up or down as indicated by the pace
of interest. This gives organisations a competitive edge wherein they can rapidly meet the
requests and expectations of their clients. We took a hybrid approach to migration and selected
different vendors and solutions for each business function, Bob Shirilla, Owner of Simply
Custom Bags. This allowed us to evaluate each solution based on the specific value it provides to
our business. For example, we selected an order management system that was already PCI
compliant. 4.3Disaster Recovery Files on individual laptops and desktops are susceptible to
security breaks that can antagonistically affect business. Break ins and thefts of individual
machines by hackers are very hazardous. The same sensitive data on the cloud is significantly more
protected and available from any location. Frequently the cloud suppliers have different backups for
the data. Most third party cloud encrypt information for improved security.

Significance Of The Centennial International Exhibition Of...
One hundred years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Centennial
International Exhibition of Industry was created in order to celebrate America s past and lend an
eye to its hoped for future of prosperity. Attended by the President of the United States and in the
presence of members of Congress, the Supreme Court, the Cabinet, many other national, state and

commenced. Although not considered financially successful for its investors, the Centennial

event that showcased the incredible advancement in culture and industry experienced by the
United States immediately after the Civil War. The significance of the Centennial to the American
economy, relations with European powers and recovery from the Civil War cannot be overlooked.
During the late 1840s and 1850s America had been completely unable to compete with foreign
nation s industrial prowess. By 1876 however, foreign investors were excited by the prospects of
wealth presented by this new burgeoning American industrial capacity. Held from May 10 to

The Importance Of Voter Participation In Canada
Elections are the most vital mechanism for a democracy since it is the role of the citizens to elect
the representatives of their government. As one of the most established democracies, Canada had
been experiencing decreasing participation in its elections. In 2008, voter turnout in Canada hit its
lowest point at an average of 58.8%, keeping in mind that the average voter turnoutin Canada has
been 70.7% (Canada, 2017). Even though there may not be one coherent explanation, there are a
few predictors that could justify the decline in Canada s voter turnout. Firstly, political interest is
essential in motivating citizens to participate in politics, and the least informed citizens are the less
motivated they are to participate. Secondly, personal barriers such as age, gender, race, language
and socio economic status play a major role as a determinant for the participation in elections.
Finally, Canada s current electoral process the system in which citizens use to cast their votes is a
factor that may deter participants from votingbecause of its cited weaknesses. For instance, the
current system has brought into question its lack of democracy and representation. Therefore,
while participation in federal elections is essential to a functioning democracy, there has been a
decline in voter turnout due to lack of political interest, personal barriers, and the electoral process.
Political interest is a highly important motivator for the participation in federal elections.

Euclid wrote one of the most famous books that is still used today. This was not the first time that
people wrote about mathematics. Many other people developed some of the theories he presented.
Euclid was the first person to write a complete review of all geometry. Euclid is also famous for his
theories on other parts of life. Today we understand Ancient Greek culture as classical. Euclid was
in Greek culture at the time as a scholar. Books 7, 8, and 9 introduce the reader to arithmetic and
the theory of rational numbers. Book 10 is the difficult subject of irrational numbers. The remaining
three books are about elementary solid geometry. It should be noted that the elements discuss
several problems, which then turns into algebra. But Euclid treats algebra in geometric terms.
Euclid showed development of a new proof for the Pythagorean Theorem, the theory that only one
parallel to a line can be drawn through any point. Modern mathematicians have maintained that no
proof is possible; Euclid may be excused for not providing one. Spherical geometry is represented
by the Phainomena, which is astronomical text based in part on a work of Autolycus of Pitane, a
slightly older contemporary. Euclid wrote on music, there is no other ancient work of science; it
needs a little revision to make it current. Other Hellenistic mathematicians such as, Hero, Pappus,
Simplicius, and most important Proclus helped out on the Elements just like Euclid. Euclid was also

Why Phenotypic Plasticity Is Present
Introduction
The plants used in this experiment were the Arabidopsis thaliana. The Arabidopsis species is
characterized as a weed , a plant with no benefit when it comes to food, shelter, or medicine
(Meinke Koornneef, 2010). Yet, it is considered the model research plant by many scientists
across the world because they are small and can grow very fast. Meinke and Koornneef (2010)
explain that scientists want to be able to collect as much data as quickly as possible, so a small,
fast growing plant is going to help make discoveries much more rapidly than a longer growing
crop plant. The Arabidopsis plant is also very convenient to study its genes because of its small
genome. A small genome makes it efficient to see how a plant s genes... Show more content on

Lutz et al. (2015) state that plants integrate seasonal cues such as temperature and day length to
optimally adjust their flowering time to the environment. The knowledge about the adaptation of
plants to changing temperatures at present is limited, but becoming increasingly important due to
the temperature changes associated with global warming (Lutz et al. 2015). This leads to a
hypothesis that as temperature increases, rosette size and height of plant will decrease.
Methods
24 plants of the species Arabidopsis thaliana were grown at two temperatures (20В°C and
24В°C) in Percival growth chambers, half at 20В°C and half 24В°C. The plants were randomized
into a design that consisted of 12 flats in two growth chambers. The seedlings were then
transferred to three inch pots on standard ProMix potting soil and bottom watered in their trays,
two times per week to assure that the potting mix remained moist. Each group will have two
different accessions; Natural Population A and Natural Population B. Natural Population A
represents species extracted from Market Baden, Germany. Natural Population B represents
species extracted from Merzhausen, Germany. Each accession will have six plants growing under
20В°C and 24В°C. All 24 plants were then looked at to measure the rosette size, the distance from
the center stalk to the edge of the leaves. All measurements were reported in centimeters using a
ruler. The plants were measured in two spans that were

False Sense Of Reality In Don Delillo s White Noise
Media severely impacts the way humans behave because it involved everyday in a human s life in

people around the world but that information can be misleading and not always right and
trustworthy. Mediais not just a source of news and information but also a source for people to be

shortsighted because media creates a false sense of reality for people that they end up thinking is
real. The same idea is portrayed in the novel, White Noise, by Don DeLillo when it becomes
obvious that the characters in the novel who follow the media like Jack and Babette create a false

In the novel, the characters create a false sense of reality from the media causing them to

to himself, i m not just a college professor. I m the head of a department. I don t see myself

Fourteen years old Joshua Smith is at his baseball game, as he runs around the bases and heads

Joshua s condition. Joshua has an enlarged heart and will need a transplant to save his life states

Every ten minutes another name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list. In addition to
an average of eighteen people die each day due to the lack of unavailable organs for transplant.
There are numerous problems dealing with organ transplantation. A major issue concerning organ
transplantation is that organ donors are deficient and scarce. Donors have been known to scarce
because not everyone takes good care of his or her body. There are not enough people to donate
organs, yet the amount of people in need of organs is increasing by the hour. Another conflict is
organ transplants can still lead to other medical problems. This is usually because of the medicine
you need to suppress your immune system (Nazario Brunilda , Common ). After an organ
transplants, it is a must that you continuously take your medication; a sudden stop will most likely
cause the immune system to reject the organ. The medications can also raise your blood pressure
and can cause osteoporosis due to loss of calcium (Etienne, Flueridor Wendy).
The other challenge to transplanting organs is the body s immune system rejecting the procedure
because it is unnatural to it. The body s immune system is set up to defend the body against any
foreign disease causing bacteria, viruses and or fungi. A procedure like this is alienated by the
body at time because it

Theme Of Dreams In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Since the beginning of time, every being on Earth has slept. Along with sleeping, dreams appear.
From the mind, dreams come and can often show one s deepest thoughts. These dreams have
endless interpretations and an impact on future actions. Because dreams can mean anything and are
the foundation for more intense feelings, dreams were used in the earliest form of literature. The
Epic of Gilgameshuses the concept of dreams to explain Gilgamesh s future ambitions. Gilgamesh
s dreams provide visions compiled of different ideas and the way he interprets those dreams affect
the decisions he makes.
In one of Gilgamesh s dreams, he views a meteor, fell down from heaven (Sanders 2). Then his
mother, Ninsun, announces it is Gilgamesh s brother, Enkidu. However, Ninsun takes from his
dream that she created Enkidu and he will love Gilgamesh forever. These discoveries indicate
whoever is the meteor is going to be Gilgamesh s family. Although Gilgamesh feels loved, he
doesn t feel the companionship that his mother feels with Enkidu. It is also believed as
symbolism for the life death cycle (Garth 13). This symbol is the constant circle of life and death.
When one dies, another comes onto Earth. Gilgamesh s has died in a sense and Enkidu was born
to help rebuild Gilgamesh. This is hinted because Enkidu has been created, and has started a new
life for both himself and Gilgamesh. More or less, this dream started a chain of events.
This cause and effect sequence started the course of

The Failure Of Edsel The Car s The Star
Ford s lack of knowledge in market demand directly caused the failure of the Edsel. The company
invested heavily in developing and producing a car with big engine. However, the reality is that
people did not want a big car that use so much gas. The introduction of the Edsel was
unsuccessful because it was a product that the market did not ask for. Besides function, people
did not like the look of the Edsel either. Since it looks very different from all the other cars in the
market, most people were not ready for such a big esthetic challenge. According to the
documentary Edsel The Car s the Star, the majority of people disked the front design extremely. If
Ford has done more research on market demand, they could probably design a look that... Show

However, the result was not as expected because their competitive analysis was inaccurate. Like
Richard Feloni said in the article 4 lessons from the failure of the Ford Edsel, one of Bill Gates
favorite case studies, Ford had presumed to invest $400 million (well over $4.0 billion in the 21st
century) in developing a new product line without attempting to determine whether such an
investment would be wise or prudent. (http://www.businessinsider.com/lessons from the failure of
the ford edsel 2015 9) Last but not least, the Edsel was launched at a bad time. The car was
introduced to the public during the economic recession in late 1957. When the vehicle came out, it
was in the worst recession since the war. A man interviewed in the documentary said that nobody
wants to take a chance on something brand new if dollars were taken to begin with. Even though
Ford was unable to predict the recession, they could be more cautious about the economic situation
before launching a product. A company can not produce a successful product that s welcomed by
the public without listening to their customers. To avoid the failure of Edsel, Ford should have
communicating more with their consumers using methods such as survey questions, data analysis,

speaker wants the audience to concentrate on survival and stand up for human trafficking. By
standing up to the abuse, people should gather together and share stories and trust in each other and

How Did Lenin s Use Of Power
Despite having other methods of control such as: Lenin s power and the soviet constitution, the
Bolshevik leadership s main method of control was terror. Although this was the main method of
control the Bolshevik leadership only had a certain degree of control over the party that was not
great between 1917, when the party seized power to 1924, when the soviet constitution was
established.
Bolshevik use of terror enabelled the leadership to reinforce their hold over the party. This was
due to Cheka; Lenin s secret police who were formed in 1917. Their role was to deal with
counter revolution, sabotage and speculation. This was important to avoid opposition in the party;
increasing the strength of leadership. To create a wider use of terror in 1922 Cheka was replaced
with the OGPU, which made arrests and tourtiГЁre more bureaucratic and discreet. Under Lenin s
control one third of the party was purged, this would make the use of terror a main method for
ridding the leadership of opposition and losing support. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constitution strengthened the control of the Party over outlying regions of the old Russian
Empire. This would ve been important for part leadership as by increasing the regions under soviet
control they would increase support for the government. The extending of the part to the other
regions tightened authority in the Soviet state. To extend the Soviet Unionthe Red Army was sent
into the regions. This shows a further use of terror by the Bolshevik leadership. The constitution did
mean that party bodies were strictly under control of the central Party structure. Resulting in the
constitution playing an important role in the leaderships control, but as terror was required to

Black Communities During The 1960 s
During the 1960 s, there were important events, actions, and organizations that changed the black
communities lives. The 1960 s are an important time period because of the Civil Rights
Movement. During that time period, the black community s were able to vote (Voting Rights of
1965) and the Civil Rights Act of 1968. Between 1965 and 1968, the Black Panthers Party was
created. Huey Newton and Bobby Sealecreated the Black Panther Partyin Oakland, California in
1966. The Black Panther Party was original called, The Black Panther Party for Self Defense ;
they implemented Malcolm X philosophy of self defense because during the time The Black
Panthers were created there were high rates of police brutality towards the black community,
which meant that Black people were being killed at random with no reason. Before The Black
Panther Party had a name, Newton and Seale created the Ten Point Program, which explained what
they wanted, and what they believed in. Newton and Seale both knew that they could not present
their Ten Point Program without a name and they came up with the Black Panther Party (B.P.P).
The Ten Point Program consists of ten points which are Freedom, Full employment, an end of
robbery by the white man of the black community, decent housing, Education which teaches black
history, black men to be excepted from military service, stop the murder of black people, wanting
all black men to immediately release from all federal jails and penitentiaries, fair trail, and

Chiapas Paz Mexico Mural Analysis
The reason I think Chiapas Paz Mexico mural at City Lights bookstore on Jack Kerouac alley is art
because the artist communicates with the viewers by using art theory such as color theory, lines
and shapes, and composition on his mural.
The artist paints a work of art Chiapas Paz Mexico which is influenced by the way of life of the
people living in a river valley in Mexico. For the composition, he paints the mural by dividing
two main parts by using flat form style to tell the story. He doesn t show perspective or overlap
objects on the mural. However, the right side of the mural, he paints an unrealistic shape and
forms little village with buildings, trees, hills and people into the background of the mural,
making them appear far away. At the top of mural, there is an army standing above the mountains
of the village. The other interesting part is the old woman at the left side of the mural. She has
the biggest portrait on black the background and is separated from a part of the village by the 3
soldiers. However, there is a rainbow ribbon connecting two parts together and the woman is a
starting point of the rainbow. The rainbow ribbon shows the movement from the old woman to the
river at the bottom right and continues moves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The color tone is mostly analogous in the mural; however, there are complementary colors in
detail elements such as the artist uses blue and green for large areas to represent river and
mountains, uses red and orange to paint houses, huts, horses, small roads and clothes in the
village to create emphasis point. For the color tone that artist uses, the harmony of blue and green
of the most of the areas can represent the abundance of water or farms in the village and a
rainbow ribbon shows what the leader gives to people in the village as

Character Analysis Of Chuck Bass
The pilot episode introduces viewers to the series plot line and its primary characters. In the first
episode, Chuck appears as a privileged, woman obsessed teenager. In fact, referring to the show s
primary protagonist, Serena, he suggests, that level of perfection needs to be violated. Later,
referring to Blair Waldorf, he insists his friend, Nate Archibald, should tap that ass. Ultimately,
Chuck only views his female counterparts as sexual objects, not human beings. Throughout the first
season, in particular, Chuck is mostly characterized as three things: rich, mean, and sexually
aggressive (McNear, 2017). Furthermore, he rarely thinks, or cares, about consequences because he

Misleadingly, Chuck guides Serena to the kitchen, where he orders the chef to make her a
sandwich. While in the kitchen, he suggests, if you re looking for a way to thank me I have a
couple of ideas. He then forces himself upon Serena despite her multiple pleas for him to stop.
Chuck ignores her. Fortunately, Serena hits Chuck and runs away, escaping his assault. The scene
highlights a number of serious concerns. First, Chuck knows Serena is drunk; therefore, she is
unable to give true consent. So, even if Serena had wanted Chuck to make a move, she lacked the
clear capacity to do so, thus making it a problematic sexual encounter. Second, as with many real
life scenarios, Serena does not press charges against her perpetrator. In fact, she tells no one of
Chuck s assault. Since he suffers no repercussions for his first offense, Chuck later assaults Jenny
Humphrey at a party.
Jenny, like many freshmen, is willing to do almost anything to gain popularity. Chuck, on the other
hand, has power over Jenny because he is an upper classman with wealth. In the scene leading up to
his assault upon Jenny, he references the purity and freshness of freshmen, hinting at the allure of
Jenny s innocence. Chuck then uses his charm and social status to lure her in. Throughout the
entire encounter, Jenny is visibly uncomfortable. Noticing Jenny s behavior, Chuck hands her a

Central Interpersonal Problem Of Jen Essay
What is the central interpersonal problem for Jen in regards to the focus of treatment? (Review
page 1136 of your article.) The central interpersonal problem that Jen is experiencing could be
related to role transitions. Jen is attempting to juggle being a student, a sorority girl and the good
child for her parents, which may have resulted in her recent binge eating. However, I believe that
Jen may also be experiencing interpersonal deficits. Jen s problems could possibly stem from her
childhood. Since, her older brother was the family s problem child , Jen felt the need to be the
good child and pressured herself to be well behaved and maintain good grades. What are some
areas of strengths for Jen? Some areas of strength for Jen include her ability to work hard and
her determination. Jen s history of making good grades and her behavior is evidence that she is
determined to achieve her goals. This may be two positive attributes that will be of assistance
during her therapy. Self awareness is also another strength that Jen possess. Her ability to know
that the binge eating and self induced vomiting and laxative use was not a smart decision says a
great deal about Jen. She was also aware of her self image. Jen s participation in therapy is also
strength. Jen s ability to reach out for help shows enormous strength, as well as Jen s desires to
reduce the interpersonal stress she is experiencing. Throughout the therapeutic process, Jen may

The Benefits Of Volunteering
Volunteering not only is enjoyable, but also maintains someone s health physically and
mentally. Volunteering allows people to get outside and see the bigger picture of life. It allows
someone to gain characteristics for a specific job they might be interested in. Depression and
negative things that someone might be going through are eliminated. A sense of purpose is
gained when someone choose to volunteer whether they are younger or elderly. It impacts an
elderly person s life a little more, especially if they have retired. It allows them to get out and live
life with a gratifying mind set. Not only does volunteering payoff to the people choosing to
volunteer, it also give the people or society suffering a more desirable lifestyle.

People may not understand how much they are doing in the world when they choose to volunteer,
but even a little work can contribute to more than they think. Gaining proper social skills leads to
characteristics for a specific job someone might be interested in. Jobs look for someone who can
work well with others and communicate well with problems that are caused throughout the world.
Health benefits are also gained during volunteering. It limits the sense of depression someone may
be fighting. When someone volunteers it allows them to get outside of their own problems and help
others that are struggling as well. Self confidence is usually gained when someone helps another
person. Giving is always better than receiving. Volunteering can also maintain someone s exercise
and allows them to continue to be active throughout the community. When someone feels like they
are needed somewhere, they gain a sense of purpose. Everyone has a purpose in the world, and
volunteering is a great way to earn that purpose. Volunteering impacts elderly people a little more.
It allows them to get outside of their homes and realize they can still do something to help within
the community also. It protects and supplies a healthy lifestyle for them. Giving in a simple way to

Life Expectancy Calculator Validity
Many aspects of life could be significantly improved because of the accumulated life experience
of human livings on the earth. Based on the achievements of many scientists and researchers, it
is reasonable to believe that the average life expectancy over 100 years of age is not a miracle to
achieve. However, although scientists have made a big contribution to the life issue, I believe
the developed technologies still lack reliability and validity in many aspects, which requires
deeper research and investigation. In this essay, I will discuss The Life Expectancy Calculator
(LEC). The test I found online is a Living to 100 LEC. The calculator is measured based on self

For interrater reliability, the test has not been assessed by professionals in the field. Regarding
validity, the test has certain face validity because the questionnaires seem to be reasonable. But,
predictive validity is a concern as Cavanaugh and Blanchard Field (2013) put, no one has figured
out how to predict longevity. The concurrent validity is also not strong for this test because the
test must be validated through other mechanisms or situations such as the measurement of life
expectancy by considering mortality and morbidity (Wood et al., 2006). In short, there are many
other factors such as ethnic, gender, and international differences, which didn t consider in the
test and obviously affect our life expectancy. For instance, the race that a person belongs to
affects his/her life span because some races may be more susceptible to certain diseases than
others. Cultures, beliefs and values of a group of people, definitely would shape the person s life
style too. For example, a certain culture may not appreciate the surgical treatment to remove a
malignant tumor, which would bring added risk for early

Transcendentalism In The Lesson Of The Moth By Don Marquis
The poem the lesson of the moth written by Don Marquis, reflects many ideas found in
Transcendentalism and in the story of Chris McCandless. The poem focuses in on the beauty of
life. It suggests that we get bored with the routine (Marquis 18). This relates to many
Transcendentalist beliefs which are represented throughout multiple of Emerson and Thoreau s
pieces. Transcendentalism has many core beliefs such as: individualism, going into nature, trusting
one s self, and living a minimalistic life. These core beliefs are said to help one find true happiness
within themselves and connecting with nature. This relates to many of Chris McCandless s beliefs
as well, because he got bored with the routine life he was living. McCandless wondered... Show

This ambition to do something out of the ordinary so different which many people fear. People
fear change, yet some people have an implicit reaction of excitement and an adrenaline rush.
McCandless went out and followed his true aspiration and showed individualism in doing so.
This is a key factor in Transcendentalism, to be an individual. While McCandless was on his
journey, he views people in a similar light as the moth had in which they are too civilized to
enjoy themselves (Marquis 42). This is also shown in some of the Transcendentalist principles
written by Thoreau, believing that people are too involved with other people s lives and
concerns that there is no time for one to release and relax. This principle reveals how many
people are not taking care of themselves and their own well being. Humans show many signs and
are guided to strive for altruism, in practicing a selfless concern for the well being of others. Yet,
this action is contradictory in some Transcendentalist ideals. From the poem the lesson of the moth
, to the Transcendentalist ideologies, and even Chris McCandless s journey, there is a pattern of
self care and being concerned for one s well being. This is something many fear, yet are still
attracted towards due to the potential excitement and happiness it could bring them. This, however,
would call for that person to abandon

  • 3. My Egg Autobiography For my egg I took a piece of cardboard and cut it into a small square. Following that I cut three slits in the cardboard in the form of a smaller square. I then took small popsicle sticks and put them into the holes in the cardboard and then hot glued them to the cardboard. To lessen the impact I took rubber bands and attached them across the cardboard from the popsicle sticks. I also did the same on the top with the egg in between. I also slowed the fall by creating a parachute. To make the parachute I cut it out of a trash bag. After cutting the bag I cut six pieces of yarn at eighteen inches each. I take a swig, set the bottle down, and study it as the liquor burns a path down my throat (124). The sentences are noticeably shorter with no manipulated structure for emphasis, per say contrary to how she portrayed her manic thought. In addition her focus was much more reigned in for she wasn t speeding through unrelated topics and stringing them together into a run on sentence. To speculate, her sentences focused solely on her immediate surroundings, she wrote of sitting in her chair and taking a drink out of her bottle as she described how it felt going down rather than jittering on going up and down, describing the sky, then the land and back again (122). Toying with sentence structure, Marya successfully reproduced the pace of her mental state into her writing. To illuminate how drastic her condition was, the author employed juxtaposition to emphasize the mania. Using a system of extreme contrariety, she effectively exemplified the magnitude of her mental state; the low to dramatize the high. In the previous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. MAD and Boomerst throughout the Cold War In the aftermath of World War II, tensions heightened between the two dominant powers: America and the USSR. The differences between the ideologies of the communist USSR and the capitalist United States led to a rapid deterioration in relations. The era between 1945, which marked the end of World War II, to 1991, when the Soviet Union dissolved, became known as the Cold War due to the fact that despite the lack of large scale conflict, both sides still feared a nuclear holocaust. Both the United States and the Soviet Union followed the military strategy of mutually assured destruction (MAD), meaning that neither side was willing to risk first attack lest the other nation retaliate massively . The fundamental tenet behind MAD that enabled it to serve as an effective deterrent was the idea of secondary strike capability. In essence, it was the ability of a nation to launch a counterattack and thereby ensure mutual destruction. Submarinelaunched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) fulfilled this criteria admirably due to their ability to stay submerged for extended periods of time, the difficulty involved with locating a submarine, and their invulnerability to nuclear missile attacks when submerged. As a result, the United States attempted to corner this leg of the nuclear triad. In 1949, the United States signed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and other capitalist states . The academic performance benefits of collaborative and cooperative learning have been known for decades because Robert E. In addition, Bruce Joyce corroborates that learning through group investigations emphasizes social development, academic skills, and personal understanding (2015). The Bible And Aeneas s Life As a follower of their respective God or gods, both Job in the Bible and Aeneas in the Aeneid suffer while doing their duties, yet they stay faithful and persistent to their obligations, despite constant suffering. While Job s suffering tests his faith in God, Aeneas suffering differs as his pietas, or duty is tested. Job and Aeneasdo not know the fate set forth by the gods, yet after enduring a great amount of sufferingthey reach relief and the knowledge of their fate. An important difference is that Job s fate is the compensation for what he had lost and reinforcement of his faith in God, while Aeneas s fate is a loss of pietas. Job, blameless and upright , is described as a man who follows God and turns away from evil showing that he tenaciously fulfils his duties to God and makes it a priority that he lives by (Job 1.1). He is challenged in a bet between God and Satan that he will only be faithful to God when everything is going well for him; God chooses to test Satan s theory (Job. 1.8 12). Job endures great suffering, but what makes him a pious man is that ultimately he shows the depth of his faith in God, despite the harsh suffering he endures. A paragon of his faithfulness to God is shown when he is given four sets of bad news: his oxen, donkeys, sheep, camels, servants and all 10 of his children were killed or stolen (Job 1.15 19). Virtues for the earthly realm and for the gain of the heavenly realm are ones that are in a continual dispute. MacIntyre try to shed light on some the virtues that are taken up by Benjamin Franklinin his life to achieve earthly and heavenly success. Malsbary adds onto this study of virtues by taking a close look at one virtuein particular. Virtue has come through history, changing in some ways and staying the same in other ways. Many people have seen virtues as the way to complete the life of man. Homer saw virtue as that which fulfilled the social role the each man was born to take. Virtue was to do what one ought to do in their stature of life. Aristotle then came and spoke of virtue as an end. The internal fulfillment of the good of man has a nature end on earth. The Christian understanding of virtue was that which led to the supernatural end as the goal for the good of man. Aristotle and the Christian understanding both acknowledge the end of virtues is that of the good of man. Thus were the older forms of virtue. Next, history comes upon the virtues of Benjamin Franklin. The man, who practiced the art of mind and body, rhetoric and exercise, devised a different set of virtues that was to be used for the sake of utility in earthly and heavenly success. • 20. An Architect, Former U.s. President Of The National... As an architect, former U.S. president Thomas Jefferson came up with architectural designs that came to define and influence American architecture and culture in general. This form of Neo Palladianism and Neo classism architecture came to be known as Jeffersonian architecture. Some of his notable structures include Monticello (his home), Poplar Forest which was his retreat, the University of Virginiawhich he founded as well as other homes which he designed for his political allies and friends, a good example being Barboursville. His style gained popularity in the early American period. Similarly, it was during the same time that the more conventional Greek Revival architecture was gaining popularity with his help. With his architectural designs, he later came to define America s national identity and culture. Background Most famously recognized as the father of the National Architecture in America, Thomas Jefferson sought to make American ideals and its culture unique from that of Europe, from where they had their origins ( Architecture is My Delight n.p). At the time Jefferson was developing his architectural skills, America was undergoing its revolution and therefore it needed an identity of its own, something that made it standout; and that is what Jefferson had set out to achieve. In a letter he wrote to James Madison regarding the project of the Virginia State Capitol while on a tour of Europe (Paris, France), Jefferson states, I am an enthusiast on the subject of ... In his book ( removed HTML ) , Karl Marx examined the labour process in capitalism economic and explained how capitalists exploit the labouring classes by appropriating the surplus value produced by labour, which is the value or output in excess of the value of their wages. The concept of the exploitation theory applies to the labour process in all class divided societies, not only capitalism [Buchanan, 1979]. Workers are either forced to work by their feudal lord under feudalism or by their lack of ownership of the means of production under capitalism. Secondly the add value from the management practices should not be taken for granted. Marx also did not foresee the evolution of capitalism and the role for the governments. Capitalism has to promote mandatory humanity and working conditions required by the government regulators and pressure of the society. Capitalists cannot force workers to work for long hours any more. And in the free labour market, they also have to pay workers the market price for the work they do; otherwise the workers would go to other places. Capitalists cannot exploit workers like the way they did hundreds years ago. Many organizations (capitalists) turn to management practices to improve efficiency and productivity, so they can reduce the cost of production and in return increase the profit. • 22. HTML5 And The Future Of Technical Documentation HTML5 and the Future of Technical Documentation By: Jessica Morley May 2015 Introduction: A Crossroad in History T echnical writing is at a crossroad in history. Gone are the days when people read technical documentation from print in manuals, books, inserts, or pamphlets. Likewise, the practice of reading documentation from a CD Rom or desktop software application is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Today, if people want technical information, they go straight to their browsers to find what they re looking for. With the advent of handheld smart phones, laptops, and tablets, teamed with the ubiquity of reliable internet connection everywhere, people demand versatile, responsive, and accessible documentation that can meet their information needs. HTML5, the new HTML standard officially recommended in October 2014, is the World Wide Web Consortium s (W3C s) answer to this new age of high speed on demand information, and technical writers are beginning to take notice. However, the question remains: should technical writers adapt to this new wave of technology, and if so, to what extent will HTML5 impact the user experience and the technical writing process? There are a growing number of technical writers who are just shy of entirely enthusiastic for this brave new world of technology. Peter Lubbers, an experienced technical writer, published author, and current Senior Program Manager at Google, is one such individual who may tip the scale on the enthusiasm ... Rate of Respiration in Yeast Essay Rate of Respiration in Yeast Aim: I am going to investigate the rate of respiration of yeast cells in the presence of two different sugar solutions: glucose, sucrose. I will examine the two solutions seeing which one makes the yeast respire faster. I will be able to tell which sugar solution is faster at making the yeast respire by counting the number of bubbles passed through 20cm of water after the yeast and glucose solutions have been mixed. Prediction: I predict that the glucose solution will provide the yeast with a better medium by which it will produce a faster rate of respiration. This is because glucose is the simplest type of carbohydrate (monosaccharide). However sucrose is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whereas the large molecule food (Sucrose) will take longer to break down because of its large molecules, this will waste the energy of the yeast as it has to break down the large molecules into smaller molecules before it can use them. This means that the sucrose is not as efficient as the glucose at providing the yeast with a better medium by which it will produce a faster rate of respiration. Theory: Yeast is a single celled fungus. It feeds saprophytically (secreting enzymes from cells) the enzymes digest the food on which the yeast is living. The enzymes digest the food the yeast is living on (normally sugars such as Glucose and Sucrose) breaking down the large molecules into smaller ones. It takes longer to break down the large molecules making them less efficient than the smaller molecules. This means that the yeast does not need to do any work when provided with small molecule foods such as glucose. The small molecule foods allow the yeast to respire easily. The glucose should allow the yeast to respire more because it is already a small molecule sugar whereas the sucrose is a large molecule sugar this will mean that the yeast can use the glucose straight away without breaking it down, whereas with the sucrose it has to break it down into a simple sugar before it can use it this will take time ... Unlike traditional IRA s, Roth contributions are nondeductible. But the earnings build up tax free (SmartMoney, you wanted to know, 2000). As one of the most established democracies, Canada had been experiencing decreasing participation in its elections. In 2008, voter turnout in Canada hit its lowest point at an average of 58.8%, keeping in mind that the average voter turnoutin Canada has been 70.7% (Canada, 2017). Even though there may not be one coherent explanation, there are a few predictors that could justify the decline in Canada s voter turnout. Firstly, political interest is essential in motivating citizens to participate in politics, and the least informed citizens are the less motivated they are to participate. Secondly, personal barriers such as age, gender, race, language and socio economic status play a major role as a determinant for the participation in elections. Finally, Canada s current electoral process the system in which citizens use to cast their votes is a factor that may deter participants from votingbecause of its cited weaknesses. For instance, the current system has brought into question its lack of democracy and representation. Therefore, while participation in federal elections is essential to a functioning democracy, there has been a decline in voter turnout due to lack of political interest, personal barriers, and the electoral process. This leads to a hypothesis that as temperature increases, rosette size and height of plant will decrease. Methods 24 plants of the species Arabidopsis thaliana were grown at two temperatures (20В°C and 24В°C) in Percival growth chambers, half at 20В°C and half 24В°C. Donors have been known to scarce because not everyone takes good care of his or her body. There are not enough people to donate organs, yet the amount of people in need of organs is increasing by the hour. Another conflict is organ transplants can still lead to other medical problems. This is usually because of the medicine you need to suppress your immune system (Nazario Brunilda , Common ). After an organ transplants, it is a must that you continuously take your medication; a sudden stop will most likely cause the immune system to reject the organ. • 43. Theme Of Dreams In The Epic Of Gilgamesh Since the beginning of time, every being on Earth has slept. Along with sleeping, dreams appear. From the mind, dreams come and can often show one s deepest thoughts. These dreams have endless interpretations and an impact on future actions. Because dreams can mean anything and are the foundation for more intense feelings, dreams were used in the earliest form of literature. The Epic of Gilgameshuses the concept of dreams to explain Gilgamesh s future ambitions. Gilgamesh s dreams provide visions compiled of different ideas and the way he interprets those dreams affect the decisions he makes. In one of Gilgamesh s dreams, he views a meteor, fell down from heaven (Sanders 2). Then his mother, Ninsun, announces it is Gilgamesh s brother, Enkidu. However, Ninsun takes from his dream that she created Enkidu and he will love Gilgamesh forever. These discoveries indicate whoever is the meteor is going to be Gilgamesh s family. Although Gilgamesh feels loved, he doesn t feel the companionship that his mother feels with Enkidu. It is also believed as symbolism for the life death cycle (Garth 13). This symbol is the constant circle of life and death. When one dies, another comes onto Earth. Gilgamesh s has died in a sense and Enkidu was born to help rebuild Gilgamesh. This is hinted because Enkidu has been created, and has started a new life for both himself and Gilgamesh. More or less, this dream started a chain of events. Although this was the main method of control the Bolshevik leadership only had a certain degree of control over the party that was not great between 1917, when the party seized power to 1924, when the soviet constitution was established. Bolshevik use of terror enabelled the leadership to reinforce their hold over the party. This was due to Cheka; Lenin s secret police who were formed in 1917. Their role was to deal with counter revolution, sabotage and speculation. This was important to avoid opposition in the party; increasing the strength of leadership. To create a wider use of terror in 1922 Cheka was replaced with the OGPU, which made arrests and tourtiГЁre more bureaucratic and discreet. For the composition, he paints the mural by dividing two main parts by using flat form style to tell the story. He doesn t show perspective or overlap objects on the mural. However, the right side of the mural, he paints an unrealistic shape and forms little village with buildings, trees, hills and people into the background of the mural, making them appear far away. At the top of mural, there is an army standing above the mountains of the village. The other interesting part is the old woman at the left side of the mural. She has the biggest portrait on black the background and is separated from a part of the village by the 3 soldiers. The scene highlights a number of serious concerns. First, Chuck knows Serena is drunk; therefore, she is unable to give true consent. So, even if Serena had wanted Chuck to make a move, she lacked the clear capacity to do so, thus making it a problematic sexual encounter. Second, as with many real life scenarios, Serena does not press charges against her perpetrator. In fact, she tells no one of Chuck s assault. The concurrent validity is also not strong for this test because the test must be validated through other mechanisms or situations such as the measurement of life expectancy by considering mortality and morbidity (Wood et al., 2006). In short, there are many other factors such as ethnic, gender, and international differences, which didn t consider in the test and obviously affect our life expectancy. Transcendentalism In The Lesson Of The Moth By Don Marquis The poem the lesson of the moth written by Don Marquis, reflects many ideas found in Transcendentalism and in the story of Chris McCandless. The poem focuses in on the beauty of life. It suggests that we get bored with the routine (Marquis 18). This relates to many Transcendentalist beliefs which are represented throughout multiple of Emerson and Thoreau s pieces. Transcendentalism has many core beliefs such as: individualism, going into nature, trusting one s self, and living a minimalistic life. This ambition to do something out of the ordinary so different which many people fear. People fear change, yet some people have an implicit reaction of excitement and an adrenaline rush. McCandless went out and followed his true aspiration and showed individualism in doing so. This is a key factor in Transcendentalism, to be an individual. While McCandless was on his journey, he views people in a similar light as the moth had in which they are too civilized to enjoy themselves (Marquis 42). This is also shown in some of the Transcendentalist principles written by Thoreau, believing that people are too involved with other people s lives and concerns that there is no time for one to release and relax. This principle reveals how many people are not taking care of themselves and their own well being. Humans show many signs and are guided to strive for altruism, in practicing a selfless concern for the well being of others. Yet, this action is contradictory in some Transcendentalist ideals. From the poem the lesson of the moth , to the Transcendentalist ideologies, and even Chris McCandless s journey, there is a pattern of self care and being concerned for one s well being.
