Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay
Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES
Abstract:
It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level
exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous
consumer products such as the cosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most
important sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological
system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal or foreseeable conditions of
use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were
analyzed in Al Madina SAES laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of
heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected heavy metals
were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES).
As and Cu were not found in all samples except in foundation sample found in concentration
0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03 0.92 ppm. Mercury ranged
between 0.04 1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026 0.091ppm.
1. Introduction: Personal care products and facial cosmetics are commonly used by millions of
consumers on a daily basis. These products are directly applied to human skin and mainly produce
local exposure to certain ingredients. Numerous consumer products like cosmetics and toiletries
have been reported as a source of heavy metal

The Struggle in Chaim Potok s My Name is Asher Lev Essay
If you were a genius in mathematics, I would understand. If you were a genius in writing, I would
also understand. If you were a genius in Gemorra, I would certainly understand. But a genius in
drawing is foolishness, and I will not let it interfere with our lives. Do you understand me, Asher?
(Potok 136). The struggle begins for young Asher Lev, a talented artist who tries to convince his
father and the rest of his family of his artistic ability, when his father refuses to recognize his talent.
Set in a tightly knitted Jewishcommunity in Brooklyn, Chaim Potok successfully depicted a young
boytorn between his orthodox Jewish tradition and his passion for art in his best seller My Name
is Asher Lev. Asher Lev knew from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of compromising with his son, Aryeh Lev becomes very bitter about his son s
persistence to prove him wrong. Every man is responsible for what he does, because he has a
will and by that will he directs his life (169). Aryeh also felt that his son s gift must have come
from the Other Side after witnessing his son s paintings that featured nudes and portraits of
Jesus. Their struggle became so great as to strain their relationship to a breaking point. Listen to
me, Asher. This will stop. You will fight it. Or I will force you to return to Vienna with me after
the summer. Better you should stay in Vienna and be a little crazy than you should stay in New
York and become a goy ( Potok 169). In the end, Aryeh Lev s futile attempt to stop Asher came out
sounding like a threat to his only son.
His father was not the only authoritative figure Asher struggled with. His mother, Rivkeh, was also
extremely weary of his behavior. She would try to talk to Asher but Asher would be so focused on
his art that he would not hear her speak. In the end, she gave in to Asher and ruined her relationship
with her husband. Asher also struggled with his mythic ancestor. He would have nightmares about
his mythic ancestor that left the taste of thunder in his mouth. The struggle with his mythic
ancestor would lead Asher to question his gift. After a

Toronto Police s Budget Cuts
Problem
The major problem with the Toronto Police s budget cuts are that they plan to freeze hiring for
three years. This has caused major burnout rates and a reduction in moral in many officers (Fox,
2017). The plan initiated by the Toronto Police this January is one looking at a change to police
culture as well as budget reduction. The hiring freeze is a product of the budget, the Toronto Police
Service has hit the 1 billion mark as of this year, exceeding any budget ever had in the past
(Powell, 2016). The Toronto police have made it their goal to not go over this cap and are doing
everything in their power to cut costs. One of the ways they plan on doing this is through a 3 year
hiring freeze of all civilian and new cadets (Lee Shanok, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A prominent example is that of the privatization of Hydro One. Premier Kathleen Wynne wants
to build $29 billion worth of new transit, roads and bridges over the next 10 years, and needs a
way to pay for it(Morrow, 2015). In order to find more money, she has decided to sell off
government assets (Morrow, 2015). This takes them out of the budget thus reducing expenditures as
well as brings in money to be sued on other aspects of government. This is the same to Toronto
removing the agencies not directly related to policing. It will provide more money to the force and
remove the expenses that came along with harbouring those agencies. As Sappington and Stiglitz
(1987) s fundamental Irrelevance Theorem explains, privatization may be, under some conditions,
an optimal solution to the delegation problem (Martimort,

Myself Autobiography
I may seem like an average teenager. And like any other, I have an annoying eight year old
brother and a strict set of parents. I am a girl who writes in a blue spotted diary just three times a
month, and totally immersed in reading science fiction books. Getting dressed for the day would
be me wearing some sort of team shirt, most likely the New York Giantsor the New York Yankees
. I
have a voracious appetite for science. When my birthday or Christmas rolls around, I beg my
parents to get me some sort of robotic kit and coding to play around with. But even though I may
seem like an average teen, one thing that separates me from others is that I have grit. Math has
not always come easy for me. I was disappointed when I learned that I didn t make it into pre
algebra, and all my other friends did. I landed in Accelerated Math. The lessons that were taught
were things that I already learned at my free time at home, and I felt very bored. But with the help
of my parents, I decided to push myself into Algebra, learningthat I could get there in seventh
grade. I remember bringing about a dozen algebra books from the library, just trying to
understand the basics of algebra. I was elated to find out that I got bumped into Algebra that
year, but I very quickly found myself struggling. Before, I would never touch the textbook to do
any problems and I would always get an A+. But it was a cold slap in the face when I got into
Algebra. I remember when I had my first few quizzes, I

Should Hockey Athletes Get Paid Essay
Why I think NHL Athletes should get paid as much as they do? It takes incredible skill to do
what they do . That is just one of the many quotes that there is about NHL athletes. Today i m am
going to share to you what my appenione on why I think NHL athletes should get paid as much
as they do. First, how much time and money that they have put into it. For hockey, hockey cost
about 1,200 and that includes all of the equipment and ice time just for house league. house
league is the lowest level of hockey. Then if you want to play AAA, the highest level of hockey
it cost more than $6,000 dollars, that only includes ice time and how much the coach gets paid.
Last year for the York Simcoe Express coach got paid around $50,000 dollars for coaching one
team for a year. Then there is the travel cost (or how much you pay for gas). It can take over two

Mikhail Gorbachev Essay
Mikhail Gorbachev
For my biography project, I chose to research Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev. A man of many
accomplishments, and bold decisions that shaped a country unlike ever before. A man who lived
by the words If not me, who? And if not now, when? Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev
Early Life: Mikhail Gorbachev was born on March 2nd, 1931 in Privolnoye, Russia. He was born
into a peasant Russian Ukrainian family, his father worked as a combine driver on government
owned farms, likewise his mother showed tireless work ethic with her lifelong toil on a collective
farm. Mikhail experienced the famous Soviet famine of 1932 1933. He recalled in a memoir that

Just a year later, Gorbachev had become the youngest member of the Politburo. The Politburo is
the executive committee for a number of communist political parties. The first ever Politburo
was created by the Bolshevik party in 1917. Gorbachev worked closely under General Secretary
Yuri Andropov watching how he succeeded in the Politburo. When Andropov died, Gorbachev
was quick to replace him for the position that he so closely eyed. Unfortunately Mikhail lost to
Konstantin Chernenko, nevertheless Mikhail wouldn t give up for what he worked so hard for.
13 months later Chernenko died, opening the doors for Gorbachev to become the General
Secretary of the Politburo at the very young age of 54. He was the only general secretary in the
history of the Soviet Union to have been born during Communist era.
Milestones: Gorbachev had many awards and accolades during his lifetime, but none were as great
as becoming the General Secretary of the Politburo in 1985. Mikhail wouldn t stop at just that, he
felt that the country could be better, be greater than what it was at the current moment in time.
Gorbachev realized that the Soviet Union s economy and country morale was seriously suffering
from the excessive spending on nuclear weapons during the Cold War. During his time as General
Secretary he had a strained relationship with American president Ronald Reagan.

Rap Hop And Hip Hop
Rap/Hip Hop is a huge part of today s music industry, with a more loyal fan base than any other
genre of music. Even though they have such a large following, there are still many that disapprove
of how the Rap game is conducted, and have no respect for the people who claim to be rappers.
Many people look at Hip Hop artists and think that they are all hard, gang banging, drug slanging
thugs from the hood. But in all reality most of the rappers in modern Hip Hop had never stepped
foot in the hood until after they finally built a little credibility by being a Hip Hop artist. Now, in
today s society it s acceptable for a person to front like they are something that they are not, but

Yes, obviously there are still words in Hip Hop (except for Migos music), but there is no true
meaning behind them. Today all rappers talk about is getting high and drunk, driving fast cars
and riding fast women with large features. They also talk about how no one is real anymore
while they re doing the same thing they re dogging on (hypocrites). When they write their songs,
the flow is choppy and sounds like incoherent babble. Rap/Hip Hop back in the late 80s and
throughout the 90s people were talking about things they really did. They spoke of the struggle,
they spoke on real issues and had their own views, instead of misguided judgement to make it
seem like they care. The lyrics were relatable unlike in modern Rap. Not many people are going
out and buying Bugatti s left and right while sipping on Ciroc and counting stacks of Benjamins.
But when you hear songs like First of the Month by Bone Thugs N Harmony, you can sit there
and think, Dang, I understand exactly where he s coming from with this, this is because there
are a lot of people who grew up on food stamps and welfare checks. When that money comes it s
time to celebrate like they say in the song. An example of how trash lyrics are in modern Rap is

Complications Of Richard Cantillon s Theory Of...
2. INTRODUCTION
Its developmental and transformative qualities particularly on emerging global economies, has
given great significance to the concept of entrepreneurship. The impact of entrepreneurship has
more contributory value is most The concept of entrepreneurship has received significant global
attention across the developed and developing countries due to its capacity to transform the
economy (Le Nguyen, 2009:867). The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (2011:8) revealed that
there are approximately 400 million entrepreneurs across 54 countries operating start up businesses.
These countries are grouped into three stages of economic development driven by: factor,

An important aspect of Cantillon s theory is that it stresses the function, not the personality, of the
entrepreneur (Hebert Link, 1988:21).
Cantillon s theory of entrepreneurship is that entrepreneurs function by bearing risk under
uncertainty. They buy goods at known (fixed) prices in the present to sell at unknown prices in the
future (Brown Thornton, 2013:406); this sort of movement would bring equilibrium to a
competitive market. Cantillon generalised the entrepreneurial function as a sizeable number of
occupations that use business functions including production, exchange and distribution to other
tasks of entrepreneurship (Hebert Link, 1989).
Cantillon considers an entrepreneur to be anyone who invests in the sense of acquiring and
employing resources with the purpose of selling goods in the future at an uncertain price and
producers of type including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers, retailers, owners of mines and
buildings (Brown Thornton, 2013:407). Cantillon saw the entrepreneur as responsible for all
exchange and circulation in the economy as opposed to wage workers and land owners who both
receive a certain or fixed income/rent, the entrepreneur earns an uncertain profit (Hebert Link,

The Endocrine System Is Made Up Of Cells And Glands That
The endocrine system is made up of cells and glands that make hormones and release them into
the blood. These hormones help to regulate reproduction, sleep, metabolism, cell growth, and
development. The word endocrine is a derivative from two Greek words: endo , which means
within or inside, and krinis , which is a verb for secrete. In the endocrine system, there are different
glands that each excrete different hormones. All of these glands are ductless, and secrete their
hormones straight into the blood stream. Some of these glands are the pineal gland, the thyroid and
parathyroid glands, the pancreas, and the thymus. These glands are located in various parts of the

thyrotropin, which sends signals to the thyroid to produce hormones, and corticotropin, which also

aids in the contraction of uterine smooth muscles and contraction of mammary gland cells, or

glucagon, which help the other hormone, insulin, to keep a normal blood glucose level. The

Hydrocortisone keeps track of how the fats, carbohydrates, and protein turn into energy for the

Rape And Sexual Violence And Assault And Its Survivors Essay
LITERATURE REVIEW
1.1Introduction
This is a presentation of findings from the literature review with focus on rape and sexual violence
/assault and its survivors. Extensive literature search was conducted on relevant concepts that
include the definition of rape, sexual violence and assault, consequences of rape and sexual violence
/assault, provision of health services. The search looked at developed and developing countries as
well as war stricken settings. Therefore, the aim was to understand the burden of rape and sexual
violence, its consequences and provision of health services for survivors and constitutional
narrative relating to rape and sexual violence.
1.2Rape and sexual violence burden
Rape and sexual violence/assault against humankind are among the most pervasive forms of
violence. High prevalence of sexual violence was initially reported in research from Europe and
Northern America. However, other continents are growingly reporting alarming prevalence of
sexual violence. Based on the World Health Organization s (2005) report on multi country study of
women s health and domestic violence against women, approximately 6% to 59% of women
globally report forced or attempted sexual intercourse (by partners or non partners) in their lifetime.
While much research has focused on sexual violence against women and children, various studies
have since reported on sexual violence against men.(1)

Memoirs Of Hadrian By Marguerite Yourcenar
Memoirs of Hadrian is a timeless historical novel that describes the life and accomplishments of
the great Roman Emperor Hadrian and the impact he had culturally on western civilization. The
story is told from Hadrian s own point of view when he is an old man looking back on his life
and is written as a letter to Marcus Aurelious who he had chosen to be his successor as emperor.
This book sheds light on the achievements that Hadrianmade during his reign while also providing
an interesting perspective since the novel is written from a first person point of view. Overall I
feel that the author Marguerite Yourcenar did a wonderful job of bringing such an interesting
character to life while still remaining factual in regards to the important historical aspects of
Hadrian s reign. The book begins with Hadrian as an old man nearing his deathbed and wanting
to give his adopted successor Marcus Aurelious a personal account of his life and reign in order
to help prepare him for the role he is going to undertake soon. Hadrian tells Marcus that he was
born in Italica and his family was Spanish. His father was a Senator but Hadrian s family was not
one of wealth. His father passes away when Hadrian is only twelve years old and his mother never
remarries, remaining a widow the rest of her life. Hadrian goes to Spain to receive his education
where he becomes fascinated with the more philosophical subjects, especially anything relating to
Greek culture. In the book Hadrian feels that

Joyce Migraine Tobias Wolff
Even together, people were as solitary as cows in a field chewing their own cud, writes Wolff
(123). This is an idea that seems to be deeply ingrained in Joyce s consciousness, but does it
represent how she truly feels deep down? Joyce seems to put on this facade of a strong self
reliant woman when, in reality, she relies more on her roommate Dina than she would care to
admit. Throughout Tobias Wolff s Migraine, Joyce insists on being independent; however, Dina s
leaving seemly causes her headaches, which can only be eased by the love and comfort that
accompanies Dina s touch. Joyce s perceived independence fuels her idea that solitude will help
the pain in her head subside. She seems to be reluctant to accept help from others and almost self

mention more subtle clues throughout the story such as when Joyce first enters and observes
her and Dina s apartment: Suitcases [were] still packed for a visit to Dina s parents, which they d

Introduction:
GABAA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid) receptors are the main inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors
in the mammalian brain. Although these receptors have been found in other parts of the body like
liver9, smooth airway muscles of the lungs10, and several type of immune cells11,12, their main
function comes in the nervous system, specifically neurons. The GABAA receptors located in the
postsynaptic membrane are stimulated by GABA neurotransmitter released from the pre synaptic
neurons and functions to inhibit neuronal stimulation in the short term (millisecond time range),
while the extrasynaptic GABAA receptors are stimulated by ambient GABA in the extracellular
space and confers long term inhibition.2 However, there are many types of GABAA receptors

Cys loop receptors are characterized by pentameric ligand gated ion channels. Some other members
of this superfamily are nicotinic acetylcholine (nACh), 5 hydroxytryptamine (type 3, 5HT3) and
glycine receptors 1, 2 and 3. nACh receptors and 5HT3 receptors contain cation selective channels
that depolarize or excite neurons, whereas GABAA/B receptors and glycine receptors contain anion
selective channels that, in most cases, hyperpolarize or inhibit neurons. Exception occurs during
early postnatal development when these channels are excitatory.5, 3 Neuropathic pain can occur if
these channels become excitatory in adults.16 The unique feature of GABA receptors that
distinguish it from other cys loop receptors is its activating ligand GABA (or accurately Оі

ABSTRACT: A rapid and massive movement of tourists within a shorter span of tourist season
puts a heavy pressure on tourist resources. The usage of tourist attractions is likely to be damaged
beyond repair and their life span may even get shortened. In the absence of innovations or added
sources of recreation, the regional tourism soon reaches its saturation point. If such a plateau stage
of tourism gets prolonged, it starts cutting short the prolong stay of tourists. Some of them may
not like to repeat their visits or may go elsewhere. Innovations must be talked about to pass over
this stage. Encouragement of interstate package tours inclusive of the provision of budget
accommodation at the wayside prime halting spots becomes obligatory. Only a National Policy
can tackle the national level natural disaster which adversely affects tourism over very extensive
areas. A regional policy has to take up a number of measures to avoid overcrowding at tourist
places and saving them from deterioration even by co opting private enterprise in the form of
investments in socio religious voluntary services.

Atrap, And Angiotensin Receptor Associated Protein
Introduction:
ATRAP, or Angiotensin Receptor Associated protein, is a cytoplasmic protein that is found to
interact with the carboxyl terminal domain of Angiotensin type 1 receptors (AT1) (Cui et al.,
2000). ATRAP was discovered to have three hydrophobic domains located at the amino terminal
end and one long hydrophilic tail found at the carboxyl terminal end (Lopez Ilasaca et al., 2003).
This 18 kDA protein is highly specific in it s binding and is predicted to have three transmembrane
domains along with a cytoplasmic tail. ATRAP fails to bind to various other receptors, which
exclude AT1 (Castrop, 2015). In yeast, the orientation of the protein was seen to have the amino
end outside the cell. In addition, mutant proteins, which did not have the carboxyl end, were unable
to bind to the AT1 receptors (Lopez Ilasaca et al., 2003).
In order to understand the role of ATRAP in humans, it is imperative to understand the role of the
AT1 receptor itself. AT1 receptors are crucial elements of the renin angiotensinsystem. They act as
mediators for almost all physiological roles of angiotensin II (AngII). Inhibiting the binding of
angiotensin II to AT1 receptors can effectively lower blood pressure of patients who are found to
have hypertension. This observation demonstrates that AT1 receptors, more specifically those found
in the kidneys, are important factors in the cause of hypertension in humans (Chen Coffman, 2015).

The Impact Of Digital Technology On Our Society
As part of a generation whose oldest members were born when CD players were all the rage, and
whose youngest members consider anything older than the iPhone 6 to be outdated, I won t deny
that we ve grown up in a time of rapid change. We live in a world that would be unrecognizable to
those who came before us, and will likely be unrecognizable to us, by the time we die. In this
world, the only constant is change, and it stands to reason that when changing our world, we
inevitably end up changing ourselves. Digitaltechnologyhappens to be one of the most rapidly
changing aspects of our culture. In fact, the changes we ve made in technology have been so
staggering that for a while, we had overlooked the ways that technology had been changing us.
Advancements in technology have revolutionized the way we work, learn, play, and communicate
with one another. At first, it may seem as though changes in digital technology have had mainly
positive effects on our society, and to a certain extent, that has rung true. However, when
researchers noticed that young people were spending an extraordinary time on devices, such as
computers and smart phones, they began to question what affect overuse of digital media could
have certain aspects of a person s life. Eventually, it came to the attention of researchers that some
people, especially teenagers and young adults, had become more depressed and seemingly
introverted as digital technology and more specifically, social media,

Experimental Psychology
Research Paper Requirement For this research requirement I chose three different experiments to
examine thoroughly. The first of these experiments came from the Journal of Experimental Child
Psychology. The study done in this journal was an examination of orthographic learning and self
teaching in a bilingual and biliterate context. The aim of the study was to figure out the advantages
and/or disadvantages of a student learning a native language when they are either monolingual,
bilingual, or biliterate, and the study was focused on learning English because this is the most
commonly learned non native language in the world. The method for this experiment consisted of

The participants were then randomly assigned REM percentages of either 16.2% (below
average) or 28.7% (above average). After hearing these results the experimenter explained that
there is not much a relationship between perceived sleep and actual sleep quality. After hearing
these results, the participants were then asked to complete the PASAT (Paced Auditory Serial
Addition Test), which tests auditory attention and speed of processing (two skills that are most
affected by lack of sleep). The test consists listening to a tape that says a series of numbers every
1.6 seconds; participants add the first two numbers and give a verbal answer. When the next
number is heard they add it to the previous number instead of the number they just said out loud.
The results strongly suggested that placebo sleep strongly affects a person s cognitive ability. To
those that were told they got below average sleep (16.2% in REM) they received an average
score of 22.13 out of 50 questions. Those who were told they received above average sleep
quality (28.7% in REM) received a score of 34.81 out of 50. These results are consistent with the
hypothesis that a person s mindset can have either a positive or negative influence on their daily
cognitive abilities. A second experiment was conducted to account for demand cues that could have
affected the results in the first experiment. It was conducted in the same fashion as experiment one

Genocide and the Propaganda Media Essay
To many Americans, the feeling of being a bystander as countries slaughter their own people has
been in legal debate since 1933, it has gradually developed into a concept that can be applied in
many situations, both historical and contemporary. The meaning of the phrase genocide is the
cleansing of a race or ethnicity in a country. There has been evidence that this phrase can be used
to describe past and present day massacres being committed around the world and how media has
changed its perception on this issue overtime. Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole
people... Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint of an idea and makes them
ripe for the victory of this idea. ( Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, 1926).... Show more content on

Most people didn t know what was going on, and people didn t really know where Jews and
gypsies etc. were going, all they knew was that they were being removed. When word and
photographs got out into the public view about what happened in these camps, everyone is shocked
to see so many dead bodies. With the role of media, the international response to the war crimes in
the Holocaust was to establish an international tribunal and it was agreed to punish those
responsible of crimes.
Throughout World War II, the American media published and broadcasted detailed accounts of
what was happening to the Jews in Europe. Articles published propagation of anti Semitic laws in
German allied countries; death from disease and starvation of hundreds of thousands in ghettos
and labor camps; mass executions in Nazi occupied Russia; and mass gassings. The articles also
indicated that these were not incidents, but part of a systematic campaign to kill all the Jews in
Europe The 1994 Rwandan genocide presented one of the most horrific crimes against humanity
since the Holocaust of World War II. In addition, it was also the first tragedy of its kind with the
opportunity to be represented in full by the media. Media played a different role here than in the
Holocaust, providing large coverage of the atrocities taking place Remarkably, during a genocide

Credibility Judgement Of Information
Credibility judgment of information largely rests upon three elements of communication: source,
message, and medium (Metzger, Flanagin, Eyal, Lemus, McCann, 2003). Source credibility refers
to the degree to which individuals perceive an information source as reliable. A source of
information may be a person, a group, or an organization, each of which has its own characteristics
that may affect credibility perception such as ability (expertise) and motivation (trustworthiness) to
provide accurate and trustful information (Tormala Petty, 2004). Message credibility is an
evaluation of characteristics of the message communicated such as informational quality, accuracy,
currency and language intensity, which create believability (Metzger et

Sensitive Periods During The Caterpillar Of The Prosthesis...
SENSITIVE PERIODS
Introduction:
Sensitive periods is a term developed by the Dutch geneticist Hugo de Vries and later used by the
Italian educator Maria Montessori.
Montessori cites DeVries example of a Sensitive Period in the caterpillar of the Prosthesis
butterfly. The caterpillar must feed on very tender leaves, and yet the butterfly lays its eggs in the
most hidden fork of the branch, near the trunk of the tree. Who will show the little caterpillars
hidden there, the moment they leave the egg, that the tender leaves they need are to be found at
the extreme tip of the branch, in the light? Now the caterpillar is strongly sensible to light; light
attracts it, summons it as by an irresistible voice, fascinates it, and the caterpillar goes wriggling
towards where the light is brightest, till it reaches the tip of the branch, and thus finds itself,
famished for food, among the budding leaves that can give it nourishment. It is a strange fact that
when the caterpillar has passed through its first stage and is full grown, it can eat other food, and
then loses its sensibility to light. This has been proved in scientific laboratories where there are
neither trees nor leaves but only the caterpillar and the light.
According to Montessori sensitive periods, refers to several overlapping periods of development
where a child is sensitive to a particular stimuli or type of interaction. A child passes through
special times in his life when he easily incorporates a particular

Masculinity In Shakespeare s Time
Masculinity is not something given to you, but something you gain. And you gain it by winning
small battles with honor (Mailer, n.d). This quote by Norman Mailer faultlessly describes
masculinity in a way that should be considered and reflected on by the majority of people in our
society today. Masculinity may be difficult to understand, but as humans, we have the access and
ability to discover and examine all the possible meanings of masculinityby different scholars,
academics, peers and even through theatre to discover the true meaning of such ideologies we
choose to identify ourselves with. William Shakespeare is an extremely perceptive and suggestive
author who is rich in his writing. Although Shakespeare s writing is not solely a dialogue on
women s studies, it does nonetheless share and consists of issues in women s studies and gender
ideology. Not only does Shakespeare reflect, he occasionally supports the English Renaissance
stereotypes of men and women and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when reflecting upon the character Orsino, one may begin to question this. A significant
attribute that exemplified masculinity was the Renaissance Beard. Sexual differences and
appearances in the early modern period have differed significantly in society s matters of these
distinctions today. In the Renaissance period, facial hair often granted masculinity as the beard
made the man (Fisher, 2009). The array of male features and prosthetic body parts such as the
genitals can definitely distinguish the differences between male and female, however, in the
Renaissance period, something as simple as the growth of a beard will signify manhood. Therefore,
it is obvious that masculinity can be presented through a combination of

The Battle Of Jericho By Joshua Huxley
The battle of Jericho was Joshua s first battle as Moses successor. The Israelites were
commanded to march around the walls of Jericho once every day for seven days. On the seventh
day they marched around the wall seven times. The seventh time they marched they shouted out,
the priest blew their trumpets and the walls came down. They overtook the city with a great
vengeance and they killed every person in the city (save Rahab and her household) and they
burnt the city with fire and everything in it. Joshua 6:12 27. The Battle of Ai: the Israelites saw
that Ai was small, so they sent only three thousand men to fight them. Ai won the battle and killed
about 36 men and chased them off their land. Joshua 7:2 6. Ai and Bethel battle: Joshua chose
30,000 men of valor to go hide in an ambush behind Ai. Then the rest of the army came to the
front of the city and flee so that Ai would chase them. The ambush came up and seized the city
while it was unprotected and burnt it down. Joshua 8:1 29. The Amorite confederacy: Jerusalem
with king Adonizedek, Hebron with king Horam, Jarmuth with king Piram, Lashish with king
Japhia, Eglon with king Debir. All these gathered together against Gibeon who had made peace
with Israel. Gibeon asked Joshua for help against these kingdoms, the Lord was with Joshua. Israel
slew them, and then chased them to Bethhoron. When they were going down to Bethhoron the

The Similarities Between Bollywood And Silent Movies
Bollywood and Silent movies are distinct by their names and styles within each movie. They are
known to be the most popular back in the old days. Bollywood was, and is famous in India,

The Highly Potent Effect Fear Has On Decision Making In...
Ultimately, no good can come from this type of decision making. Fear prompts retreat. It is the
antipode to progress. Just when we need new ideas most, everyone is seized up in fear, trying to
prevent losing what we have left (Berns). Fear can be defined as a biochemical, emotional, and
physical response to something negative or thrill situation. Most individuals have a negative
reaction to fear causing them to obtain the physical response of fight or flight in face of fear or
avoiding anything that causes fear altogether. The characters in The Crucible all reacted to the
witch trials differently and that most likely was because of how afraid they were of the
accusations. If someone was more fearful of the possibility that some people were witches then
they were more likely to want them in jail or hung opposed to if they were not that fearful. The
research question that is being explored in this essay is What role does fear play in individuals
decision making in Arthur Miller s The Crucible? In other words, fear can affect how one reacts
to certain situations and it can cause them to make different decisions than they normally would.
Fear can have a huge role in an individual s decision making process. Many people make different
decisions when they are afraid or scared of something than they normally would. In the article

Learning About Medieval Life and Society from Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury
Tales
I have been studying Geoffrey Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, of which I
looked specifically at six portraits, these being: the Knight, his son, a young squire, the prioress,
the wife of Bath, the Miller and the Pardoner. From these portraits I was able to observe the ways
of life and society in medieval times. I found out about social status, fashion, wealth, romantic love,
the importance of manners and the church during this era and these are just the topics I took
particular interest in; there were many other areas of medieval life and society that Chaucer s

From Chaucer s Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, the wealth of a portrait linked them to their
social status and often to the fashion of this time also; the wife of Bath is an example of this.
She was a good looking woman who had had five husbands in total, and she was very well off
due to her profession in cloth making which Chaucer explains to be the best Of clooth making
she hadde swich an haunt, She passed hem of Ypres and of Gaunt . Her social status was very
high, as she was the first woman in the church to make an offering to the parish priest, but she
used her status to her advantage, for if someone went before her she was out of alle charitee (she
would be very angry) and would not give her offering. Her high status also linked in with the
fashion of this era. She wore scarlet stockings, which is very much a status symbol because of the
colour, but also, the wife of Bath wore shoes ful moiste and newe these would have been soft
leather shoes which were very expensive. The expense gone into her clothing reflects her social
status and also her wealth very much so.
The prioress is another portrait that resembles the link between social status and fashion, bringing
wealth into the link also, due to having such a high status. The prioress is one of the group who
represented the church in the fourteenth century, which was a

American Art Observation
For this observation, I went to the American Art section on the first floor of the Philadelphia
Museum of Art. When you first walk into the exhibition you see a bunch of glass showcases and
to the right was a whole hallway and section designated to Thomas Eakins. The Thomas Eakins
section is rather large so I ventured there first. All of his pieces are so well done and lifelike.
Although, there was so much to pick from, I found a small brown set of five figures in a glass
case the most interesting. Each one is only the size of my hand. They are intriguing because not
only are they in a well lit big glass box in a darker hallway, but they are on a smaller scale than
most of the other works of art around it. The big lit glass box is split... Show more content on

Eakins was born in Philadelphia in 1844. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Artsin
1862 complimenting his artist career. A year later although, he decided to study anatomy at the
Jefferson Medical College (Krieg 191). This new found muse for anatomy sparked his realist
artwork. Eakins art historical significance is rooted in his identity as a studious realist whose
painting draws its force from extensive scientific research into anatomy, perspective, reflection
and motion (Leja 479). Pieces such as his anatomical bronze casts of the human foot and knee
showed his appreciation for capturing the little details and scale of the human body. The
particular painting William Rush Carving His Allegorical Figure of Schuylkill River was a step
by step process. Eakins wanted this painting to be as real as it could be, so he used different
methods to capture details. For his first method, he sculpted small figurines so he had a three
dimensional object to be able to observe the subjects in different points of view and to test light
and shadow ( Philadelphia Museum of Art: Handbook of the Collections ). Since this was just a
mere step, he didn t spend too much time on it. He used scraps and materials commonly found in
his studio. The three figurines of The Schuylkill Freed, George Washington, and the Water Nymph
and Bittern were models of statues William Rush sculpted, that Eakins wanted to include in his
painting. These three

Essay about Breast Cancer Diagnosis Methods Analysis
Abstract: Breast cancer research over the last decade has been tremendous and the novel methods
being develop help in the early detection, in setting the stages of the therapy and in assessing the
response of the patient to the treatment. Some of the studies look very promising and their use in
future may decrease the radiation dose to the patient. This paper studies various techniques used for
the diagnosis of breast cancer. Different methods are explored for their merits and de merits for
the diagnosis of breast lesion. It was found that the recent use of the combination of Artificial
Neural Networks in most of the instances give accurate results for the diagnosis of breast cancer
and their use can also be extended to other diseases.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus smarter systems are required to decrease the instances of false positives and false negatives.
This paper reviews the existing methods some of the methods are yet unproven but the studies look
very encouraging.
II.LITERATURE SURVEY
Mammography is a popular technique but it has its limitations especially in younger women and
in denser breasts. The Computer Aided Diagnosis has been proposed for the medical prognosis [7
9]. The fuzzy logic and Artificial Neural Network form the basis of the intelligent systems. There
are several instances where the artificial intelligence is used for the diagnosis of the breast cancer.
The methods have included many Artificial Neural Networks architectures such as Convolution
Neural Network [10], Radial Basis Network [11], General Regression Neural Network [11],
Probabilistic Neural Network [11], Resilient Back propagation Neural Network [12], and hybrid
with Fuzzy Logic [13]. In this paper [7] a supervised artificial neural network [14 16] was used
to help classify the breast lesions into malignant and benign classes by processing the computer
cytology images. The accuracy of the trained neural network was found to be 82.21%. The ANN
has been established as a robust system for the diagnosis of breast cancer [18].There is a complex
relationship between different biomarkers which were identified for the diagnosis of this cancer
[19], the MLP neural network was simulated for the diagnosis using four biomarkers

Ethics Of Eating Meat Research Paper
Is becoming a vegan really such a bad idea? People are starting to ask the question that most
people think about almost every day how is it made Statistics shows that more and more people
are becoming vegan or vegetarian once realizing what is happing to the food that is being
processed so poorly. Eating processed meator any other processed foodis not ethical. Because there
are several animal cruelty and environmental disasters involving the process of the occurrence.
One of the main reasons meat eating is not ethical is because of the way it affects others. The
4.8 pounds of grain fed to cattle to make one pound of beef represents a colossal waste of
resources in a world teeming with hungry and malnourished people (Frank Doolittle). The food
used to feed the cattle could easily be used for helping end world hunger. The amount of waste that
is being created for each animal is substantial. U.S. animal farms generate billion of tons of animal
waste every year, which the Environmental Protection Agency says pollute our waterways more
than all other industrial sources combined (Doolittle). The amount of water used during the process

Personal Narrative-Some Advice To A Band

so nervous about presenting tonight. Usually, I have a rubber band on my wrist to play with
and flick, but I can not find one anywhere and the last time I used the flicking of a rubber band to
distract me from the anxious feeling, I made a pretty nasty red mark on my wrist. I just wanted
to know if you had any advice on what I could do to distract myself while presenting or to prepare
myself. Back story: Growing up I always had that thought in my mind that someone was coming to

The Sandman By E. T. A Literary Analysis
The perplexing short story, The Sandman by E.T.A. Hoffman, conveys an unsettling dark tale about
a man struggling with the effect of a traumatic childhood experience. Hoffman delivers an
imaginatively chilling portrayal of the looming consequences adolescent perception can have on
adult life. Studies have shown that childhoodtrauma may harmfully affect the brain structure and
cause children to be at risk for psychiatric disorders later in life (Bergeron 1). Similarly, this idea is
shown in Hoffman s tale as the main character Nathaniel plunges repeatedly into despair and
madness because of the fear introduced in his youth. Although childhood fears may not always be
grounded in reality, overwhelming conditions could have a negative impact on... Show more content

Nathaniel, who enjoyed the moments before bed in the company of his father, associated the
Sandman with the unwelcoming separation from his father. Soon after, his sister s nanny teasingly
tells of a darker story about the wicked Sandman, who gouges the eyes out of children who will
not go to sleep, feeding their eyes to his own kids (Hoffman 2). Furthermore, his own imaginings
about the Sandman continued to grow strong. Nathaniel s fear grew more intense when he believes
his father is murdered by Coppelius, whom he believes to be the evil Sandman. Expressively,
Hoffman s story illustrates the power of perception and the dangers of subtle progression. Imposing
threats help to create harmful visualizations. Children are especially taunted by fears and
environmental influences and may silently cope with things they do not fully understand.
Clara is disturbed after she reads the letter meant her brother Lothaire. For this reason, she replies
to Nathaniel to eagerly express her astute insight and discerning opinion into the probable cause of
Nathaniel s affliction; his memories had not been real, but merely misguided by his own
imagination (Hoffman 7 9). The influence of an individual s thought life and belief system can
severely disrupt life and relationships. For instance, when Nathaniel believed that

The Effect Of Aerobic Capacity On University Students
How anaerobic capacity influences aerobic capacity in university students as determined by
differences in pulse rate before and after a step up test
Introduction
During physical activity, the body must produce energy for muscle contraction. There are two
different methods that the body can use (Г…strand 1956), which are dependent on the availability
of oxygen and the nature of the exercise (Yip 2010). Moderate intensity exercise uses aerobic
respiration while high intensity exercise uses anaerobic respiration (Yip 2010). Aerobic respiration
requires oxygen in order to provide energy; this method produces significantly more adenosine
triphosphate (ATP) compared to anaerobic respiration and thus allows for longer lasting moderate...

Research strongly suggests that aerobic fitness can be improved via intense anaerobic activities
(Bogdanis et al. 1995). Specifically, the VO2 maxa person has can be improved by anaerobic
exercise (Swain 2007), and this in turn improves their aerobic fitness due to the nature of aerobic
respiration which uses oxygen. This report aims to explore if and how an individual s anaerobic
fitness level might influence their ability to carry out aerobic exercises, i.e. are people who are
anaerobically fit also aerobically fit? Thus, in considering relevant literature, the alternative
hypothesis of this experiment is that yes, if an individual is anaerobically fit, then they are also
aerobically fit. The null hypothesis is that there will be no correlation between an individual s
anaerobic and aerobic fitness.
Participants were instructed to perform as many push ups as they could, then after resting, their
pulse rate was taken. Then they undertook a moderate step up exercise for 4 minutes and their
pulse rate was measured again. The maximum number of push ups was recorded and these values
were compared against the individuals change in pulse rate before and after the step up exercise.
Statistical significance was determined using a t test.
This research could contribute to helping individuals in improving their fitness levels, especially if
one is specifically looking to improve either aerobic or anaerobic fitness. It would

Heroics of Women in Ibsens A Dolls House Essay
Heroics of Women in Ibsens A Dolls House The Heroics of Women
Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House is a play about a young wife and her husband. Nora and Helmer
seem to be madly in love with one another and very happy with their lives together. Yet the
conflict comes into this show when Nora brags to her friend Ms. Linde about how she had forged
her father s name to borrow money to save her husband s life and how she had been secretly paying
off this debt. Helmer finds out about this crime and is furious, until he finds that no one will ever
know about it. This entire conflict is written to bring to light the ridiculous social expectations

certainly a man that lives up to what is expected of him, inside and outside the home.
Nora, as a woman, also has many expectations she must try to live up to. By natural design,
women are not good with money, with planning, or with complicated thinking. They are
certainly the underclass of the sexes. This condition was caused by the fact that women were
forced to mold themselves into a model themselves that men deem desirable and best. The wants
and desires of women were put aside so that they may better perform the role of pleasing the men
in their lives. They were there to support their husbands and help carry on the tasks of keeping the
house in order, or they re to care for their fathers and clean his house of generally care for him.
This entire social condition became an inescapable cycle, since men chose what men should and
would be like and they chose as suits them. A woman did not have the opportunity to go out and
find herself or to further her own talents and abilities. They were instead molded into a shape that
would further enhance the men s talents and abilities. Yet even though the weakest characteristics
were attributed to women, great responsibility was put on them as regarding the raising of their
children. It was commonly assumed that

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dodge Ram Trucks
Dodge Ram Trucks, a division of the Chrysler Group created in 2009, focused on the public needs
with the pickup truck. In a male dominated truck industry, approximately 11% of pickup trucks in
the United States are registered to females. With such a small number of percentage of women
truck owners, Ram debuted a television advertisement. In 2015, during the 141st Kentucky Derby
to appeal to female buyers. By doing so, they inspired women to break the stereotypes, specifically
the male dominated truckindustry. Through its carefully incorporated narration, Ram appeals to the
courage of women through aural and visual techniques and utilizes specific examples of females,
who overcame obstacles in their profession, to provide further inspiration and create a valuable
rhetorical commercial.
Ram s advertisement immediately begins by utilizing logos and pathos to embolden women to fight
against stereotypes. First, the commercial s narration uses a series of repetitive rhetorical questions
to inspire the audacious emotions of the audience. Ram repeats have you ever thought multiple
times to capture the female viewer s attention. This technique establishes an understanding and
inviting tone that prepares the viewer for Ram s overarching message. Next, allowing the viewer to
ponder these rhetorical questions, Ram briefly pauses the narration. Following this pause, Ram
articulates their message: You can break a stereotype and throw it into a whole nother gear. Because

Political And Social Changes During The Progressive Era
The Progressive Era, lasting from the 1890s until the 1920s, was a chapter in American history that
was characterized by social activism and countless reform movements. Political and social reforms
were just two of the numerous movements that occurred during this time period. Although many
political and social changes were introduced to America during the Progressive Era, there were also
many continuities that transpired. The 17th, 18th, and 19th amendments are all examples of social
and political changes that took place, but corruption and civil rights for African Americans
continued to remain defective throughout and even after the Progressive Era.

The 19th amendment was the last major reform of the Progressive movement. Promptly after the
conclusion of Progressive Era, the Woman s Civil Right movement hit a rough patch and
women were hastily urged to remain and return back into the house; cooking, cleaning and
producing babies. Around the same time, the majority of reform movements went silent, no
progress was made and very few decided to continue the reforms. The 18th amendment was also
extremely unpopular and proved to be a momentous failure. Many people often ignored the law
and it gave way for a huge profit to be made off the illegal selling of alcohol. The 21st amendment
was ratified on December 5, 1933, and repealed the previous 18th which prohibited alcohol. The
most significant failure of the Progressive Era was the fact that civil rights for African Americans
remained the same, no progress or reforms were successfully practiced during the movement.
During the Progressive Era, segregation and Jim Crow laws were not decreased, instead, they were
supported and encouraged by many white

  • 2. Heavy Metal Assessment Of Cosmetic Products Essay Heavy metal assessment of some cosmetic products by ICP/OES Abstract: It has been shown that heavy metals toxicity to humans is as a result of long term or high level exposure to pollutants common in the environment including the air, water, food and numerous consumer products such as the cosmetics and toiletries. Cosmetics are seen as one of the most important sources of releasing heavy metals into the environment and the human biological system. Thus Cosmetic products must not be harmful under normal or foreseeable conditions of use. Four different samples of cosmetics (Foundation, Kohl, Blusher, and Lipstick) were analyzed in Al Madina SAES laboratory for water and food analysis to determine the levels of heavy metals (As, Pb, Zn, Hg, and Cu) in the products. Concentrations of the selected heavy metals were determined by using inductively coupled plasma/optical emission spectroscopy (ICP/OES). As and Cu were not found in all samples except in foundation sample found in concentration 0.0056 ppm for as and 0.006116 ppm for Cu, lead ranged between 0.03 0.92 ppm. Mercury ranged between 0.04 1.49 ppm, and Zinc ranged between 0.026 0.091ppm. 1. Introduction: Personal care products and facial cosmetics are commonly used by millions of consumers on a daily basis. These products are directly applied to human skin and mainly produce local exposure to certain ingredients. Numerous consumer products like cosmetics and toiletries have been reported as a source of heavy metal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Struggle in Chaim Potok s My Name is Asher Lev Essay If you were a genius in mathematics, I would understand. If you were a genius in writing, I would also understand. If you were a genius in Gemorra, I would certainly understand. But a genius in drawing is foolishness, and I will not let it interfere with our lives. Do you understand me, Asher? (Potok 136). The struggle begins for young Asher Lev, a talented artist who tries to convince his father and the rest of his family of his artistic ability, when his father refuses to recognize his talent. Set in a tightly knitted Jewishcommunity in Brooklyn, Chaim Potok successfully depicted a young boytorn between his orthodox Jewish tradition and his passion for art in his best seller My Name is Asher Lev. Asher Lev knew from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of compromising with his son, Aryeh Lev becomes very bitter about his son s persistence to prove him wrong. Every man is responsible for what he does, because he has a will and by that will he directs his life (169). Aryeh also felt that his son s gift must have come from the Other Side after witnessing his son s paintings that featured nudes and portraits of Jesus. Their struggle became so great as to strain their relationship to a breaking point. Listen to me, Asher. This will stop. You will fight it. Or I will force you to return to Vienna with me after the summer. Better you should stay in Vienna and be a little crazy than you should stay in New York and become a goy ( Potok 169). In the end, Aryeh Lev s futile attempt to stop Asher came out sounding like a threat to his only son. His father was not the only authoritative figure Asher struggled with. His mother, Rivkeh, was also extremely weary of his behavior. She would try to talk to Asher but Asher would be so focused on his art that he would not hear her speak. In the end, she gave in to Asher and ruined her relationship with her husband. Asher also struggled with his mythic ancestor. He would have nightmares about his mythic ancestor that left the taste of thunder in his mouth. The struggle with his mythic ancestor would lead Asher to question his gift. After a ... • 4. Toronto Police s Budget Cuts Problem The major problem with the Toronto Police s budget cuts are that they plan to freeze hiring for three years. This has caused major burnout rates and a reduction in moral in many officers (Fox, 2017). The plan initiated by the Toronto Police this January is one looking at a change to police culture as well as budget reduction. The hiring freeze is a product of the budget, the Toronto Police Service has hit the 1 billion mark as of this year, exceeding any budget ever had in the past (Powell, 2016). The Toronto police have made it their goal to not go over this cap and are doing everything in their power to cut costs. One of the ways they plan on doing this is through a 3 year hiring freeze of all civilian and new cadets (Lee Shanok, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A prominent example is that of the privatization of Hydro One. Premier Kathleen Wynne wants to build $29 billion worth of new transit, roads and bridges over the next 10 years, and needs a way to pay for it(Morrow, 2015). In order to find more money, she has decided to sell off government assets (Morrow, 2015). This takes them out of the budget thus reducing expenditures as well as brings in money to be sued on other aspects of government. This is the same to Toronto removing the agencies not directly related to policing. It will provide more money to the force and remove the expenses that came along with harbouring those agencies. As Sappington and Stiglitz (1987) s fundamental Irrelevance Theorem explains, privatization may be, under some conditions, an optimal solution to the delegation problem (Martimort, ... • 5. Myself Autobiography I may seem like an average teenager. And like any other, I have an annoying eight year old brother and a strict set of parents. I am a girl who writes in a blue spotted diary just three times a month, and totally immersed in reading science fiction books. Getting dressed for the day would be me wearing some sort of team shirt, most likely the New York Giantsor the New York Yankees . I have a voracious appetite for science. When my birthday or Christmas rolls around, I beg my parents to get me some sort of robotic kit and coding to play around with. But even though I may seem like an average teen, one thing that separates me from others is that I have grit. Math has not always come easy for me. I was disappointed when I learned that I didn t make it into pre algebra, and all my other friends did. I landed in Accelerated Math. The lessons that were taught were things that I already learned at my free time at home, and I felt very bored. But with the help of my parents, I decided to push myself into Algebra, learningthat I could get there in seventh grade. I remember bringing about a dozen algebra books from the library, just trying to understand the basics of algebra. I was elated to find out that I got bumped into Algebra that year, but I very quickly found myself struggling. Before, I would never touch the textbook to do any problems and I would always get an A+. But it was a cold slap in the face when I got into Algebra. I remember when I had my first few quizzes, I ... Even though they have such a large following, there are still many that disapprove of how the Rap game is conducted, and have no respect for the people who claim to be rappers. Many people look at Hip Hop artists and think that they are all hard, gang banging, drug slanging thugs from the hood. But in all reality most of the rappers in modern Hip Hop had never stepped foot in the hood until after they finally built a little credibility by being a Hip Hop artist. Rap/Hip Hop back in the late 80s and throughout the 90s people were talking about things they really did. They spoke of the struggle, they spoke on real issues and had their own views, instead of misguided judgement to make it seem like they care. The lyrics were relatable unlike in modern Rap. Not many people are going out and buying Bugatti s left and right while sipping on Ciroc and counting stacks of Benjamins. Cantillon s theory of entrepreneurship is that entrepreneurs function by bearing risk under uncertainty. They buy goods at known (fixed) prices in the present to sell at unknown prices in the future (Brown Thornton, 2013:406); this sort of movement would bring equilibrium to a competitive market. Cantillon generalised the entrepreneurial function as a sizeable number of occupations that use business functions including production, exchange and distribution to other tasks of entrepreneurship (Hebert Link, 1989). Cantillon considers an entrepreneur to be anyone who invests in the sense of acquiring and employing resources with the purpose of selling goods in the future at an uncertain price and producers of type including farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers, retailers, owners of mines and buildings (Brown Thornton, 2013:407). Memoirs Of Hadrian By Marguerite Yourcenar Memoirs of Hadrian is a timeless historical novel that describes the life and accomplishments of the great Roman Emperor Hadrian and the impact he had culturally on western civilization. The story is told from Hadrian s own point of view when he is an old man looking back on his life and is written as a letter to Marcus Aurelious who he had chosen to be his successor as emperor. This book sheds light on the achievements that Hadrianmade during his reign while also providing an interesting perspective since the novel is written from a first person point of view. Overall I feel that the author Marguerite Yourcenar did a wonderful job of bringing such an interesting character to life while still remaining factual in regards to the important historical aspects of Hadrian s reign. The book begins with Hadrian as an old man nearing his deathbed and wanting to give his adopted successor Marcus Aurelious a personal account of his life and reign in order to help prepare him for the role he is going to undertake soon. Hadrian tells Marcus that he was born in Italica and his family was Spanish. His father was a Senator but Hadrian s family was not one of wealth. His father passes away when Hadrian is only twelve years old and his mother never remarries, remaining a widow the rest of her life. This line of the story is particularly interesting because it hints at the fact that Joyce imagines her and Dina in bed together, side by side. Not to mention more subtle clues throughout the story such as when Joyce first enters and observes her and Dina s apartment: Suitcases [were] still packed for a visit to Dina s parents, which they d never made because Joyce got sick, (122). Could it have been her own nervousness that caused Joyce to feel this way? If so, why would she be so nervous to meet Dina s parents unless she is in love? • 17. Gasba Essay Introduction: GABAA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid) receptors are the main inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors in the mammalian brain. Although these receptors have been found in other parts of the body like liver9, smooth airway muscles of the lungs10, and several type of immune cells11,12, their main function comes in the nervous system, specifically neurons. The GABAA receptors located in the postsynaptic membrane are stimulated by GABA neurotransmitter released from the pre synaptic neurons and functions to inhibit neuronal stimulation in the short term (millisecond time range), while the extrasynaptic GABAA receptors are stimulated by ambient GABA in the extracellular space and confers long term inhibition.2 However, there are many types of GABAA receptors depending on the subunits that they are made up of ... Some other members of this superfamily are nicotinic acetylcholine (nACh), 5 hydroxytryptamine (type 3, 5HT3) and glycine receptors 1, 2 and 3. nACh receptors and 5HT3 receptors contain cation selective channels that depolarize or excite neurons, whereas GABAA/B receptors and glycine receptors contain anion selective channels that, in most cases, hyperpolarize or inhibit neurons. Exception occurs during early postnatal development when these channels are excitatory.5, 3 Neuropathic pain can occur if these channels become excitatory in adults.16 The unique feature of GABA receptors that distinguish it from other cys loop receptors is its activating ligand GABA (or accurately Оі aminobutyrate). There are two types of GABA receptors A B. GABAB receptorwas originally found due to their insensitivity to bicuculline which is GABAA antagonist1. ABSTRACT: A rapid and massive movement of tourists within a shorter span of tourist season puts a heavy pressure on tourist resources. The usage of tourist attractions is likely to be damaged beyond repair and their life span may even get shortened. In the absence of innovations or added sources of recreation, the regional tourism soon reaches its saturation point. If such a plateau stage of tourism gets prolonged, it starts cutting short the prolong stay of tourists. Some of them may not like to repeat their visits or may go elsewhere. Innovations must be talked about to pass over this stage. Encouragement of interstate package tours inclusive of the provision of budget accommodation at the wayside prime halting spots becomes obligatory. Only a National Policy can tackle the national level natural disaster which adversely affects tourism over very extensive areas. A regional policy has to take up a number of measures to avoid overcrowding at tourist places and saving them from deterioration even by co opting private enterprise in the form of investments in socio religious voluntary services. • 22. Atrap, And Angiotensin Receptor Associated Protein Introduction: ATRAP, or Angiotensin Receptor Associated protein, is a cytoplasmic protein that is found to interact with the carboxyl terminal domain of Angiotensin type 1 receptors (AT1) (Cui et al., 2000). ATRAP was discovered to have three hydrophobic domains located at the amino terminal end and one long hydrophilic tail found at the carboxyl terminal end (Lopez Ilasaca et al., 2003). This 18 kDA protein is highly specific in it s binding and is predicted to have three transmembrane domains along with a cytoplasmic tail. ATRAP fails to bind to various other receptors, which exclude AT1 (Castrop, 2015). In yeast, the orientation of the protein was seen to have the amino end outside the cell. In addition, mutant proteins, which did not have the carboxyl end, were unable to bind to the AT1 receptors (Lopez Ilasaca et al., 2003). In order to understand the role of ATRAP in humans, it is imperative to understand the role of the AT1 receptor itself. AT1 receptors are crucial elements of the renin angiotensinsystem. They act as mediators for almost all physiological roles of angiotensin II (AngII). Inhibiting the binding of angiotensin II to AT1 receptors can effectively lower blood pressure of patients who are found to have hypertension. This observation demonstrates that AT1 receptors, more specifically those found in the kidneys, are important factors in the cause of hypertension in humans (Chen Coffman, 2015). In this world, the only constant is change, and it stands to reason that when changing our world, we inevitably end up changing ourselves. Digitaltechnologyhappens to be one of the most rapidly changing aspects of our culture. In fact, the changes we ve made in technology have been so staggering that for a while, we had overlooked the ways that technology had been changing us. Advancements in technology have revolutionized the way we work, learn, play, and communicate with one another. At first, it may seem as though changes in digital technology have had mainly positive effects on our society, and to a certain extent, that has rung true. However, when researchers noticed that young people were spending an extraordinary time on devices, such as computers and smart phones, they began to question what affect overuse of digital media could have certain aspects of a person s life. After hearing these results, the participants were then asked to complete the PASAT (Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test), which tests auditory attention and speed of processing (two skills that are most affected by lack of sleep). The test consists listening to a tape that says a series of numbers every 1.6 seconds; participants add the first two numbers and give a verbal answer. When the next number is heard they add it to the previous number instead of the number they just said out loud. The results strongly suggested that placebo sleep strongly affects a person s cognitive ability. To those that were told they got below average sleep (16.2% in REM) they received an average score of 22.13 out of 50 questions. Those who were told they received above average sleep quality (28.7% in REM) received a score of 34.81 out of 50. • 30. Sensitive Periods During The Caterpillar Of The Prosthesis... SENSITIVE PERIODS Introduction: Sensitive periods is a term developed by the Dutch geneticist Hugo de Vries and later used by the Italian educator Maria Montessori. Montessori cites DeVries example of a Sensitive Period in the caterpillar of the Prosthesis butterfly. The caterpillar must feed on very tender leaves, and yet the butterfly lays its eggs in the most hidden fork of the branch, near the trunk of the tree. Who will show the little caterpillars hidden there, the moment they leave the egg, that the tender leaves they need are to be found at the extreme tip of the branch, in the light? Now the caterpillar is strongly sensible to light; light attracts it, summons it as by an irresistible voice, fascinates it, and the caterpillar goes wriggling towards where the light is brightest, till it reaches the tip of the branch, and thus finds itself, famished for food, among the budding leaves that can give it nourishment. It is a strange fact that when the caterpillar has passed through its first stage and is full grown, it can eat other food, and then loses its sensibility to light. This has been proved in scientific laboratories where there are neither trees nor leaves but only the caterpillar and the light. According to Montessori sensitive periods, refers to several overlapping periods of development where a child is sensitive to a particular stimuli or type of interaction. • 41. The Highly Potent Effect Fear Has On Decision Making In... Ultimately, no good can come from this type of decision making. Fear prompts retreat. It is the antipode to progress. Just when we need new ideas most, everyone is seized up in fear, trying to prevent losing what we have left (Berns). Fear can be defined as a biochemical, emotional, and physical response to something negative or thrill situation. Most individuals have a negative reaction to fear causing them to obtain the physical response of fight or flight in face of fear or avoiding anything that causes fear altogether. The characters in The Crucible all reacted to the witch trials differently and that most likely was because of how afraid they were of the accusations. If someone was more fearful of the possibility that some people were witches then they were more likely to want them in jail or hung opposed to if they were not that fearful. The research question that is being explored in this essay is What role does fear play in individuals decision making in Arthur Miller s The Crucible? In other words, fear can affect how one reacts to certain situations and it can cause them to make different decisions than they normally would. Fear can have a huge role in an individual s decision making process. Many people make different decisions when they are afraid or scared of something than they normally would. Learning About Medieval Life and Society from Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales I have been studying Geoffrey Chaucer s General Prologue to the Canterbury Tales, of which I looked specifically at six portraits, these being: the Knight, his son, a young squire, the prioress, the wife of Bath, the Miller and the Pardoner. From these portraits I was able to observe the ways of life and society in medieval times. Hoffman, conveys an unsettling dark tale about a man struggling with the effect of a traumatic childhood experience. Hoffman delivers an imaginatively chilling portrayal of the looming consequences adolescent perception can have on adult life. Studies have shown that childhoodtrauma may harmfully affect the brain structure and cause children to be at risk for psychiatric disorders later in life (Bergeron 1). Soon after, his sister s nanny teasingly tells of a darker story about the wicked Sandman, who gouges the eyes out of children who will not go to sleep, feeding their eyes to his own kids (Hoffman 2). Furthermore, his own imaginings about the Sandman continued to grow strong. Nathaniel s fear grew more intense when he believes his father is murdered by Coppelius, whom he believes to be the evil Sandman. Expressively, Hoffman s story illustrates the power of perception and the dangers of subtle progression. Imposing threats help to create harmful visualizations. Children are especially taunted by fears and environmental influences and may silently cope with things they do not fully understand. Clara is disturbed after she reads the letter meant her brother Lothaire. For this reason, she replies to Nathaniel to eagerly express her astute insight and discerning opinion into the probable cause of Nathaniel s affliction; his memories had not been real, but merely misguided by his own imagination (Hoffman 7 9). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research strongly suggests that aerobic fitness can be improved via intense anaerobic activities (Bogdanis et al. 1995). Specifically, the VO2 maxa person has can be improved by anaerobic exercise (Swain 2007), and this in turn improves their aerobic fitness due to the nature of aerobic respiration which uses oxygen. This report aims to explore if and how an individual s anaerobic fitness level might influence their ability to carry out aerobic exercises, i.e. are people who are anaerobically fit also aerobically fit? Thus, in considering relevant literature, the alternative hypothesis of this experiment is that yes, if an individual is anaerobically fit, then they are also aerobically fit. The null hypothesis is that there will be no correlation between an individual s anaerobic and aerobic fitness. Participants were instructed to perform as many push ups as they could, then after resting, their pulse rate was taken. Then they undertook a moderate step up exercise for 4 minutes and their pulse rate was measured again. The maximum number of push ups was recorded and these values were compared against the individuals change in pulse rate before and after the step up exercise. Statistical significance was determined using a t test.
