Change In Education
Over the years, different things evolve and change from what society is used to. For example,
devices were introduced to have a conversation with people miles away; however, as time
continued, individuals were able to talk without a wire restricting them from walking out of the
kitchen. Over the decades, the style in males and females changed drastically as well. Although
people say change is good, some change might have virtuous intentions but they end up being
severely detrimental. Colleges should not interfere with the constant flow of education by
incorporating a distraction from learning; however, college officials should merely strive for their
students to be comfortable not pampered. Louisiana State Universityinstalled a lazy... Show more

Regardless if she is biased or not, a pool in the shape of LSU that has a steady current does not
ensure wellbeing and balance at all. To point out, places to study and take naps are more
appropriate in restoring sanity than a place to soak up ultra violet rays from the sun. It simply is
not feasible to believe the new lazy river will encourage people to go home and study for exams
or finish degrees. The lazy river may influence individuals to apply there, but that does not
guarantee the academic savvy students to attend college there. A lazy river is deeming the college
to be more along the lines of a water park. Baton Rouge has plenty of relaxing places to be
sociable and restore wellbeing including: the huge water park called Blue Bayou, the numerous
beauty salons, and the countless gyms. Austin Baker, a newly graduated student searching for a
college to attend, stated, People may say, This is a country club, I don t want my kid to go there,
and that is exactly what I thought. I didn t want to go to a school that provides everything. I
want to be independent, live on my own, the normal college life. Just as Baker has mentioned, the
installation of a lazy river may make some students feel as if they are having their independence
ripped away from them. One may feel dependent on the college, because while they are going to
school they are spoiled. Once he or she graduates and are

Captain Aimee Le Medec Research Paper
No words can describe the cloud of sorrow that hangs over Halifax and surrounding areas.
December 6th, 1917 will forever mark a tragedy in our history. I am very blessed that my
business and I survived the explosion, but I too am still grieving the loved ones I lost. As I walk
down to what once was known as the Richmond District of Halifax, it hard to imagine that a
street was once here, a home there, because all that is visible now is debris. Debris that is
covered with a light blanket of snow on this cold January day. Nestled in the heart of Halifax lies
the legendary harbour. The day is December 6th, 1817. It seems as if it is a normal day in
Halifax. The two ships that caused the explosion were the Imo and the Mont Blanc . The Mont
Blanc was a French general cargo and a munitions ship owned by Cie Generale Transatlantique.
The ship was considered very old yet had a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, I think that Captain Aimee Le Medec is ultimately to blame because he abandoned ship.
He could of prevented the explosion through many different ways such as opening the hatches or
turning the boat back to sea. Instead he did none of these. In addition Captain Aimee Le Medec
blatantly ignored putting the red flag up on the Mont Blanc. For 20 minutes crowds collected
around Halifax Harbour to watch the billowing smoke filled with sparks and fire as the Mont
Blanc drifted towards the wharf. If the red flag was up then these people would have been
warned that there were munitions on board and the people would of had a chance to run from the
wharf. Finally I that Captain Aimee Le Medec is ultimately to blame because he could have moved
the ship towards port when the Mont Blanc encountered the Imo in the narrow harbour. Instead he
entered a state of shock, ordering the crew to abandon ship. I feel that Captain Aimee Le Medec
never took initiative to stop this tragedy which he should feel ashamed

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pesticides
Pesticides are the only toxic substances released intentionally into our environment to kill living
things.
A pesticide is any substance used to kill, repel, or control certain forms of plant or animal life
that is pests. Pesticides include herbicides for destroying weeds and other unwanted vegetation,
insecticides for controlling a wide variety of insects, fungicides used to prevent the growth of
molds and mildew, disinfectants for preventing the spread of bacteria, and compounds used to
control mice and rats. Because of the widespread use of agricultural chemicals in food production,
people are exposed to low levels of pesticide residues through their diets. We cannot syet have a
clear understanding of the health effects of these pesticide residues. Other evidence suggests that
children are very susceptible to adverse effects from exposure to pesticides, including neurological
developmental effects.

These include organochlorine, organophosphate, carbamates, and pyrethroids, which all became
successful in controlling pests. However we should understand its prons and cons also.
Benefits
There are many positive effects of using pesticides and the environment is getting the direct or
indirect results of pesticide application.
One of the important benefit of pesticide use is the eradication of certain species which cause
threats to forest trees. Example, budworms or loopers can kill thousands of trees due to defoliation.
To overcome this, scientists have studied the Bacillus thuringiensis var. a bacterium that naturally
occurs in the environment. It will kill insects, hemlock looper, larvae, and budworms.

The Benefit Of Bilingualism
Benefits of Bilingualism
In modern society, owning a place in the bilingual community is a special trait that allows for
people to have a true connection with one another. Bilingual is a term describing people who can
speak more than one language, and with more than 7000 languages inhibiting the world, the
demand for bilingual speakers is steadily growing (Okal, 2014). The number of people who speak
more than one language is increasing world wide as it is estimated that over a billion people in
the world speak more than one language fluently (Okal, 2014, p. 226). With that being said, some
studies show that approximately one in five Americans speak a language other than English at
home, and that is just in the United States alone. Moreover, the number of people who are able to
speak more than one language is more than likely going to exhibit an increase in the near future as
well (Callahan Gandara, 2014). Along with an increase in speakers, an increase in demand for these
speakers will increase too. Bilingualism opens the gateway to opportunities and benefits for people
all around the world. However, many people do not see the importance of increasing the spread of
bilingual speakers throughout the nation s communities. Without these bilingual speakers, various
people and their neighborhoods would not be able to communicate with one another because of the
large language barrier sitting between them. That is why being bilingual contains many benefits,
including its brain improvements, career benefits, and social skill boosts that will help out the
speaker and his or her listeners in the long run.
Opposing Viewpoints
Of course, the art of being bilingual may display a few faults. One of these faults may be that
both languages can be present at the same time, which means that when a bilingual person hears a
word, he or she is able to make a connection with both languages based on the sounds. In a study
by Dr. Viorica Marian and Anthony Shook (2012), the authors explain how bilingual speakers
connect sounds with both languages. For instance, if an English and Spanish bilingual speaker
hears the word to to, his or her brain may instantly try to find words in both languages containing
the sound to gives

The Washington Metro Transit Authority
It is against this segregated backdrop that many of the District s transportation initiatives began. In
its 2002 Transit Development Study, the Washington Metro Transit Authority (WMATA) cited
several reasons for its focus on transit improvements. Among these reasons was the recognition that
the District was growing but not equally in all areas (WMATA, 2002). Its list of Promising Transit
Routes included routes extending from areas of traditionally higher income per household and
lower unemployment rates to areas of traditionally lower income per household and higher
unemployment rates. For example, 4 of the 5 routes involved routes to the Minnesota Avenue
station from neighborhoods such as Georgetown and Woodley Park. NeighborhoodInfo DC, Urban
Institute s data aggregator, provides profile information for DC s 39 neighborhood clusters and
helps to put the variances of income and unemployment in perspective while also assisting with
understanding the rationale behind the selection of these routes by WMATA. Table 1 shows

unemployment rates of each neighborhood as measured by 2010 census data. Based on 2010

King Lear Vs Oedipus
A man cannot become a hero until he can see the root of his own downfall. Aristotle. In Greek
culture, a tragic hero is defined as a person of high social rank, who has a tragic flaw or flaws that
lead to their downfall. William Shakespeare s King Lear and Sophocles Oedipus Rex are two
classic pieces of literature in which involves a tragic ending for both protagonists lear and Oedipus.
The naive nature of King Lear and the arrogance pride of Oedipus lead them to a blindness

characteristics such as role of fate and free will, role of destiny and the ignorance which makes

Essay On Forest Acres
Like many communities, Forest Acres is a community that has strengths and capacities that make
the area unique. In terms of safety this community is working to provide a safe environment for
residents. According to Forest Acres (2017), it is reported that the community had very few
violent crimes with only one murder, three rapes, eleven robberies, and forty six assault crimes.
Therefore, it can be concluded the community is striving to meet the goal of keeping residents safe

Although violent crimes are limited, Forest Acres experiences more property crimes when

The Sandman
E.T.A. Hoffmann s The Sandman illuminates Freud s theory of the Uncanny. Freud s understanding
of Nathaniel in E.T.A. Hoffmann s The Sandman is that the Nathaniel s madman like actions are
the result of the return of his suppressed juvenile material. Nathaniel is the protagonist and is
convinced that a frightful destiny awaits him. His fear focuses on a threatening old man whom he
has understood since infantile to be the Sandman , a monster who takes away the eyes of children
who are awake at night. He connects the sandman with Coppelius, a colleague of his father and he

In the Uncanny Freud states everything that ought to have remained hidden and secret, and yet
comes to light, (7) Whenever something reminds Nathaniel of the sandman it triggers him to turn
into a madman and he gets lost in his own world. There are different causes that trigger one to go
mad. Freud believes that one of the main sources of uncanny has to do with the idea of one being
robbed of their eyes. Oedipus that mythical lawbreaker was simply carrying out a mitigated for of
punishment of castration. Freud believes Nathaniel was afraid of castration not just loosing his
eyes since many cherish both. Oedipus links with Nathanael, both were afraid of loosing a part of
them that they both treasure. Nathanael also treasures his mother. Nathaniel seems to only see his
mother as good , she is the one who protects them and the one that does not want the sandman in the

Nathanael has an attachment to his mother. Nathaniel appears to not like his father and see him as
the bad parent. I was comforted by the realization that his alliance with the devilish Coppelius could
not have plunged him into eternal perdition. (92) It could be because the father continues to allow

Discuss the Extent to Which a Reduction in the Rate of...
The definition of consumer expenditure is the amount of money spent by households in an
economy. The definition of investment is the spending by firms on capital good such as new
machines etc. Finally the definition of interest rates is the proportion of a loan that is charged as
interest to the borrower, normally expressed as an annual percentage. In the UK the interest rates
are set by the Monetary PolicyCommittee and are usually used in order to influence levels of
aggregate demand. Primarily, you must understand that lowering the rate of interest will make it
cheaper for people to borrow as well as make it cheaper to pay back existing loans. As a result, firms
may use this moneythat they have saved to spend on upgrading the... Show more content on

Furthermore, if the interest rate was low before the cut then it may not appear to have a very big
impact because people will have already have been taking advantage of the small cost of
borrowing. Obviously if the interest rate was very high discouraging people from borrowing and
in turn reducing consumer expenditure and investment by firms, then a rapid cut could see a high
rise in the aggregate demand. Moreover, if someone is in the middle of paying back a mortgage
on something like a house and interest rates fall they will effectively have more money because
they will not be paying more on top of their mortgage on interest.
On the other hand, the reasons for increases of consumer expenditure and investment levels as
mentioned above are only all valid if ceteris paribus is assumed. In reality, both factors of
aggregate demand can be affected by multiple other external factors for example, consumer
expenditure can be affected by the marginal prosperity to consume amongst consumers and
therefore if this is very low then a cut in interest will see a minimal change in consumption and
investment levels. In terms of consumers and firms if a large cut were to occur it would have a
far superior effect in comparison to a small cut which could potentially have no impact. As well as
this it can also be affected by the Income Elasticity ofDemand this means the responsiveness of the
demand for a good to a change in

Analysis of Evil in Peter Van InwagenВґsThe Argument from...
This essay examines a paper by Peter Van Inwagen, The Argument from Evil . Inwagen s paper
attempts to give a possible reason for why there is evil in this world. However, this essay will
attempt to give reasons for why Inwagen s reason for evil does not explain evil without
compromising God s essential quality of moral perfection.
Inwagen sets the basic format for the problem of evil as thus: God has non negotiable properties of
omnipotence and moral perfection, there is evil in this world, if an omnipotent and morally perfect
being created this world there shouldn t be evil in it, therefore, there is no God. (Reason and
Responsibility, 108) Omnipotence meaning able to bring about anything that is not a contradiction
and moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, Inwagen examines a theist s reply that God brings a greater good out of the evils in the
world. However, the problem with this reply, Inwagen notes, is that it does not take into account
God s omnipotence. In other words, God could have brought out a greater good from evil than He
has. This implies either God is not omnipotent and so is unable to bring about the greater good or
if He is omnipotent then this reply implies a moral imperfection. Therefore, Inwagen admits, his
defense must include ...the proposition that God was unable bring about the greater goods without
allowing evils... (Reason and Responsibility, 110). Secondly, a theist may reply that there is evil in
this world because it allows for an understanding of good. However, Inwagen again notes God s
omnipotence which could teach this contrast through something less evil, such as vivid nightmares.
(Reason and Responsibility, 110) Lastly, Inwagen believes, a theist may reply using free will.
Inwagen defines free will as a free choice between different options, for example A or B, where
God cannot make a person choose A over B because it is a contradiction to the definition of free
will. Moreover, humans abuse free will which causes or produces a certain amount of evil .
Nonetheless, free will is good that outweighs its evil affects, so, that is why God has allowed it.
(Reason and Responsibility, 111) Inwagen notes the objections to this solution as well: (i) the good
from free will

Lewis Screwtape Letters, An Amusing And Profound Story...
Lewis Screwtape Letters is an amusing and profound story of the world s temptation and a
Christian s victory over it. In a collection of letters, an old demon, Screwtape, gives advice and
guidance to his young and naive nephew, Wormwood, on how to lure his patient to Hell.
Amateurishly attempting to tempt his patient to commit some great, extravagant sin, Wormwood
lets his hand off the wheel and his patient becomes a Christian. Even in a seemingly hopeless
situation, Screwtape kept his cool and advised Wormwood to prevent his doing anything. As long
as he does not convert it into action...Let him do anything but act. No amount of piety in his
imagination and affections will harm us if we can keep it out of his will. As one of the humans
has said, active habits are strengthened by repetition but passive ones are weakened. (pg.66 67)
Screwtape and Wormwood work to work to keep the patients faith in a passive, lukewarm state and
put out his fire for the Lord. They try to distract him with the ways of the world, but they are unable
to put out his burning fire for the Lord. In an unexpected bombing, the patient slipped through
Wormwood s hands and into the open arms of his Heavenly Father. Some ways Wormwood is
instructed to tempt his patient is by keeping him either stuck in the past or hag ridden with the
future, creating doubt during the low or struggling times and distracted during the good times, and
with love.

The Whiskey Rebellion And The Nullification Crisis
In a world where there will always be constant opposition, humanity must learn to use it as a
weapon rather than a weakness. The stronger an individual or in this case a nation is, the more
challenges and trials one must face. As the federal government s power increased, the more
rebellion and revolution surfaced. Many will say that the more power equaled less problems.
However, that is simply untrue, because someone will always have to make a choice, like how
as long as there is strength in this world, there will be a vulnerability to overcome. For example,
the Whiskey Rebellion and the Nullification Crisis were determining factors of how opposition
will come as long as there is power in the midst. Therefore, these two specific historical markers
help show the true colors of a nation through the motives and effectiveness of federal power and
constant opposition. In every abyss of darkness, there will be a light to shine through and break
that barrier. History is what makes the world s character as well the inhabitants that remain
within. The Whiskey Rebellion was a way for people who appear as commoners to finally take a
stand against the government, especially Alexander Hamilton s taxes that were being put into
place. Which brings the other tipping point, which is known as the Nullification Crisis, it gave the
federal government a wake up call, for it showed no matter how much power increased, there will
always be a voice out there ready to be heard. And the Nullification

Live in Myths
This excerpt from Live in Myths, written by Ellen Goodman is a fabulous example of all the
different kinds of relationships and their participants who have an excellent sustainability to spend
their lives living their own myths. A very evident character that the author uses to bring out the true
meaning of this piece is her friend. Her friend is continuously apologizing for her husbands
unapologetic behavior, saying, He is not really like that, when he most definitely has been this way
since the time they first started dating. The woman uses the word cranky is order to describe her
husband and his actions. But the author uses more serious and much heavier words like, erratic

All these unanswered questions bring out a lot of possibilities because it is not everyday that
we see someone like the woman. It must be so difficult for her to be living with her myth as well
as her man . Here the author personifies her myth as if it is another person altogether with
different personalities. In this excerpt the myth is usually what the person actually wants.
Therefore they believe the opposite person is like that in order to save him or herself of getting
disappointed over and over again. I know of a couple where a woman believes that her husband
never cheats on her. After finding text messages and e mails from the other woman, she yet prefers
to believe that her husband could never do such a thing. She is yet living with the man, though the
man has made it very clear that he is not in love with her anymore and would want her to move
out. But she refuses. She believes she could make him fall in love with her all over again and
then things would get better. It makes me sad every time my mother and I go to meet her. Her
hope for the future gives me the strength to endure all the difficulties in my life the way she did.
But at the same time it baffles me how she could be so blind to her husband s character and yet
believe that she could bring about a change in a man who doesn t even love her

Heroic Heros
Most of the heroes in the superhero universe can be broken down into three groups. Marvel and
DC Comics are the main contributors to this superhero fandom. These two companies even
contributed the term superhero. Neither company owns it, they just share it. Many of the
interesting heroes/ heroines have brain powers, body powers, and some are even powerless.
This class is the mind boggling brainiac s. Not because they are smart, but because they have
brain powers. Brain powers include telekinesis, aqua kinesis, telepathy, and many more. The
most classic and recognizable candidate for Brainiac s would be Jean Grey. Jean Grey was 10
years old when her mutant telepathic powers first manifested after experiencing the emotions of
a dying friend. ( Jean Grey , 2006, para.1). Her telekinetic abilities allow her to levitate or pick up
cars with her mind. She also has telepathic abilities, this allows her to read minds and put
thoughts in people s brains. Jean and her amazing powers landed her a spot as one of the
founding X Men. Aquaman is another suitable hero for this class. Aquaman, like his name
suggests, has the power to control the water. This is called aqua kinesis. Another cool power of
his is telepathy, like Jean, but with a twist. He uses his telepathy to communicate with the sea
creatures, like the dolphins and the menacing sharks. There are moments where I m in the shower,
or even just playing in water that I feel like aqua man. I feel as if I have his aqua kinetic

Analysis Of In The Shadow Of The Banyan
1.5 to 3 million cambodians died in the Cambodian Genocide. These tragic events are shown in In
the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner. In this novel the reader is in the perspective of a
seven year old princess, Raami, as she lived through the genocide. As the Khmer Rouge a heartless
group destroyed Cambodia. The group Dehumanized people, took everything from it s citizens, and
split up families. As the Khmer Rougebegan their surge to make a single class society , they chose
to strip the citizens of every item they owned and all personal property they had. This is shown
when the family is at their country house called Mango Corner. three Khmer Rouge soldiers
burst into the house, waving their guns, shooting, and shouting , GET OUT! GET OUT!
(Ratner 51). Kicking the family out for no specific reason but to disrupt the family. Not even
making it clear where they really could go. They were lost like a stranded dog without a home.
This is seen once more moments later, Then his eyes caught the glint of Big Uncles watch
flashing in the sunlight. An omega Constellation...Off! The boy shouted. Big Uncle made no
move. TAKE IT OFF! The boy thundered. Finally Big Uncle lowered his arms, took the watch
off his wrist, and handed it to him. (Ratner 52). The soldier had no reason for taking the watch
from Big Uncle besides the fact that he could. This was shown again when Raami was at Ksach,

Gollum Allegory
In J.R.R Tolkien s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the character of Gollum has quickly proven to be the
single most important character to the plot. This is due partly to his role in the destruction of the
One Ring; but more to do with the themes associated with the character of Gollum. Gollum,
despite being a disgusting and repulsive creature who had entered the story later than most other
characters, embodies the strongest allegory in the entire trilogy. Gollum is an allegory for the
depravity of Man because he puts all of his focus on a physical object with absolutely no eternal

He proves Acquavivas argument insufficient and points out that athletic scholars are so over
scheduled with practices, training centers, etc, that the colleges aim to focus athletes mostly on the
sport surfaces (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Consequently, many either cannot or will poorly earn a
degree. Former NFL player Dexter Manley is an example. Manley declared that he left Oklahoma
State University illiterate (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Although students have to keep an acceptable
GPA, it still doesn t guarantee that they will actually learn anything or come out of school prepared
to possibly face the job market.
Another argument in favor of the extinction of the athletic scholarships is that athletes don t get
enough money to live decently. The financial aid money covers the tuition, fees, living and book
expenses (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.). Even so research by the Collegiate Athletes Coalition (CAC),
a non profit group of parents interested in helping athletes study in higher education facilities fully
sponsored, uncovered a gap of at least $2,000 between the expenses the school pays for and the
total of what the student will need over the course of his or her academic life (Johnson Acquaviva,
n.d.). This led some to consider paying athletes. Johnson responded by presenting several options to
improve the athletes lifestyle by giving them more money (Johnson Acquaviva, n.d.).

The Pros And Cons Of Race Medicine

that proved to be illuminating and directional in moving the focus. Though the discussion was
themed to create positions of pro versus con, the reality of their arguments really showed more
agreement than not.
Dr. Otis Brawley of Emory University and current Medical Director of the American Cancer
Society lead the discussion by creating a historical perspective of race and its position, or lack of it,
in cancer research and treatment. The concept of race medicine was one that held strength in the

Chinese Jesuit Collaborations Before 1755
Chinese Jesuit collaborations before 1755
The collaboration of the Chinese and the Jesuits can be found in art since the Kangxi period
(康熙帝, r.1654 1722) in Qing China, and continued throughout the Yongzheng period
(й›ЌжЈеёќ, r.1722 1735) as well. Although the purpose of the missionaries was the spread their
religion in China, the Kangxi emperor was quick to realise that some of them were good artists. He
being a progressive thinker, thought it would be a good way to introduce his court artists, the Han
Chinese court painters (artisans), to new styles and techniques of painting from the west. This
might have been his way of glorifying his rule, and at the same time, embellish the palace with new
forms of art. The Jesuits had perfect knowledge of various techniques previously unknown to the
Chinese artists; the depiction of light and shade to suggest volume, theories of colour, the anatomy
of the human body, and a scientific perspective of the art of drawing and painting.
However, this interaction was not a one way street, the Jesuits learnt as much as they taught, from
the Chinese artists. The Chinese were not very forthcoming while adopting various techniques from
the foreigners, like that of chiaroscuro . The Chinese artist aimed at depicting the natural colour of
the object in ordinary daylight; on the other hand, the European artists depicted the colour of an
object according to the amount of light shining on different parts of it. To overcome this, the Jesuits

Animals Should Not Be Zoos
Imagine being a zoo animal. Wouldn t the animal want to be free, and not in captivity? There
should not be zoos. From outside of a cage it is barely noticeable, but what is happening to the
zoo animals is not right. There should not be zoos because animals cannot exercise which leads
to health issues, they have little to no space which causes depression, and there are other places
that help animals in a safer and more productive way. The history of zoos is that animals would
be in tin cages, now, they live in fake terrain, so none of these habitats are appropriate for
animals. Zoos say that they are helping endangered animals, but really they are killing them.
Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise as part of their daily schedule, and when
animals exercise is lacking, health issues are occurring more frequently. For instance, stressed
animals signal depression or psychoses. When elephants at zoos sway from side to side, the
people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but it is actually a signal
of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental stimulation and
physical exercise. To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants to
control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do not deserve this, but still lack exercise.
For example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee County
Zoo, 64% of their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the
zoo because at zoos they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older.
As a result of this lack of exercise provided by zoos, zoos are not matching the animals natural
exercise behaviors, so the animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live by
themselves even if they are meant to live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants
live peacefully and splash each other with their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough
space to play and enjoy themselves. The average size of elephants is 7 feet, and they live in 12
foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet to move around. Elephants can not move,
nor use their trunks and this causes them to die

Summary Of Minorities In The Rise Of The Rocket Girls
To be treated as lesser or unworthy is a terrible thing. What happened to all men are created equal
? I guess that only applies if you are a straight, white man. A minority is a part of a population
differing from others in some characteristics and are often subjected to different treatment. That
said, minorities were mistreated and shoved to the back of history. In Aria by Richard Rodriguez
the Rodriguez family feel what it means to be a minorityin their everyday life. They re held at arm
s length by the people around them, and struggle to assimilate. In Rise of the Rocket Girls by
Nathalia Holt it s not race that sets these women behind. It is simply the fact that they are women.
In both novels society is presenting more challenges to a certain group, but that does not stop them.
Even today minorities are still at a disadvantage. That does not stop people from pursuing their
goals and dreams. As a student perseverance is needed because you cannot give up easily or you
just will not make it. Aria has many counter arguments and debates revolving around assimilation.
To better visualize the meaning of assimilationimagine having a group of blue blocks all exactly

to fit in you paint them all blue. Isn t that erasing part of who they are? That was a main point in

Analysis Of Eugene O Neill s PlayThe Emperor Jones
Eugene O Neill is widely considered the most influential of American playwrights. He is called
the founder of modern drama in the United States , and holds the title of the first American
playwright to earn a Nobel Prize in literature. (O Neill 794) His play, The Emperor Jones, is
credited as being one that provided several firsts in American theatre history: the Provincetown
Players first major hit, the first major role for an African American actor on the legitimate
Broadway stage (in houses where the audience was still racially segregated), and the play that
secured O Neill s place as a writer for the high art, experimental theatre worthy of international
attention. (Steen 343) Basically, The Emperor Jonesmade Eugene O Neill.
The play is a psychological study of Brutus Jone s mind, his fears, visions and dream. Tom tom

INTRODUCTION:
Tiffany Co. is one of the oldest luxury jewelry brands, which was established in the U.S. by
Charles Lewis Tiffany. The company when started was a stationery shop at New York s

become a leading luxury jewelry and high end specialty goods retailer. Tiffany s offers a wide
range of products to its customers including jewelry, watches, home pieces, stationery, crystal and

be connecting old ties and making a strong foundation for its future in the country. In the initial
years of launching the Brand the founder ventured into India in search of rare and ancient Indian
Bronze. So now the company can come back in order to rejuvenate its old relationship with
India. Apart from heritage reasons, it would also be highly profitable for them to venture out to
India as they have been facing losses in their home country. Also, the brand value of Tiffany s
product would be very high, it would become a status symbol to own a Tiffany s Product in India,
which is not only good for the goodwill of the company but also its profit.

Essay about A Blessing James Wright
In the poem A Blessing, James Wright analyzes the relationship between human beings and nature
through the descriptive explanation of an encounter between his friend and himself and two Indian
horses. He shows that although we are able to relate and interact with the animals we don t have
the ability to join them or as Wright puts it: break into blossom (26 27). Wright uses imagery and
personification to describe the naturehe witnesses as he escapes from the stress of humanlife. The
ponies in this poem are personified by comparing them to human beings, mainly through the
description of their emotions. This personification lessens the gap between the author and the
horses and separates him from civilization represented by the highways... Show more content on

This point is proved further as A light breezes moves [the author] to caress [the ponies] long ear
(23), showing that nature itself is encouraging the merging of the two sides, because the wind
encourages the hand to pet the horses ear. Another simile is used to describe the horse s ear as
delicate as the skin over a girl s wrist (24), again blurring the line between human and nature.
Finally Wright comes to the realization that if he were blessed enough he would be able to step
out of his body and break into blossom, thus becoming a part of nature. But, he realizes that is past
the realm of reality and therefore cannot be done.
Wright examines the relationship of human being and nature using his descriptive language
including such devices as imagery and similes. Wright sees the idea of nature and humans
joining as one as a possible feat and he shows this though his written experience with these
Indian ponies. He initially shows the contrast of the two worlds, but they grow on each other and
end up becoming one. Wright sees the loneliness of the ponies, gains their affection, as the ponies
are very welcoming. He ultimately ends up wanting to join them by being able to break into
blossom (26 27), but he is unable to do so because he reached the maximum threshold of the union
between humans and nature. Which brings us back to the Wright is able to disregard the average

This book holds value historically, because of its setting and the struggles presented because of it.
John Steinbeck uses thoroughly developed characters to thicken the plot of Of Mice and Men.
He uses distinct features and qualities to differentiate one character from the next. The
differences between characters is what creates several of the conflicts in the novella. Curley s
antagonistic character toward people of large stature causes tension between himself and
Lennie, instantly creating conflict. The conflicts in the plot are what makes Of Mice and Men
entertaining. Lennie is not conscious of some of his actions. He does before he thinks.
Attention is directed toward him, drawing the reader s attention in and making them want to
know how things will be taken care of. Lennie is talking to Curley s wife about how he likes to
pet soft things. She then mentions how soft her own hair is. Lennie instantly begins to pet her
hair. She wants him to stop, but Lennie gets scared and covers her mouth, and later breaking her
neck leading to death. Lennie s big fingers fell to stroking her hair. Don t you muss it up, she
said. Lennie said Oh that s nice, and he stroked harder. Oh that s nice. ... Lennie was in a panic.
His face was contorted. She screamed then, and Lennie s other hand closed over her mouth and
nose (Steinbeck 45). Whether it is a serious fight, or a silly quarrel, Lennie s actions are
entertaining. Because of this, Lennie gets into trouble with Curley. Not only was Lennie s size a
problem for Curley, but his actions at have taken him deeper into trouble. Entertainment is often
fueled by conflict, as shown in Of Mice and Men.

Sugar Cultivation During The Nineteenth Century Essay
In the British Caribbean during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, sugar cultivation came into
existence as the Europeans slowly moved away from the production of tobacco. This was done
for two main reasons; the first being, the Europeans saw how lucrative the production of the
sugarcane crop can be for them and secondly, it would have significantly reduced the cost of
sweeteners for both men and women of British descent. Honey, being the only substitution for
sugar at the time, was considered to be very expensive and as a result an alternative was needed. In
order for this production system to be fully adopted, the Europeans required a labour force that
could endure the hardships associated with toiling in the sugar plantation. This is where the
enslaved Africans were introduced. To the Europeans, Africans were considered to be much more
effective because in their view they were seen as having no soul. These Africans were taken from
the West African coast primarily around the Senegal River and Angola, (Campbell 1) placed upon
slave ships and brought into the Caribbeanto be sold to different estate owners or managers. From
then onwards, this was the introduction of slaveryand as such this essay would be based upon the
book entitled Beyond Massa. This book was written by John F. Campbell, a historian and current
History lecturer at the University of the West Indies, which is located at the St. Augustine Campus
in Trinidad. In addition to, Mr. Campbell also received

Management Theories Of Management Theory
Management Theories Evolution
Management practice cannot exist without the support of a theory. The complex character of
management as the scholarly discipline, the variety of opinions concerning the essence and content
of management theory, require systematizing knowledge about this phenomenon. Management
theory is a relatively new science since its systematic development and academic research has
started mostly in the 20th century. Although it is difficult to name the most important theories and
principles of management developed throughout all the history of management theory, since such
views can be quite subjective, basing on the research it is possible to point out the ones that made
the most considerable contribution to its development. This essay will tackle some of the key
management milestones and point out their peculiarities, importance, and possible limitations.
Evolution of Management Theory: Five Important Milestones
In the 20th century, the science of management emerged and evolved due to the necessity to solve
practical problems in the sphere of production, therefore, there was an active study of elective
forms and methods of management, and the profession of a manager became a separate activity
requiring corresponding skills and knowledge.
Taylor s Principles of Scientific Management
Frederick Winslow Taylor can be called the founder of the science of social management, with his
fundamental work The Principles of Scientific Management . At that time,

Role Of Cost And Price Leadership For Tesco
P4 IMPROVEMENT WORK Porters 5 Forces for Tesco. Cost and leadership Cost and price
leadership was developed by Michael porter and it was to help companies make use of a strategy
which would put them on top of their competitors known as a competitive advantage. The cost
and price leadership aim at increasing the profits and market share of Tesco s through charging
their customers lower prices, while still being able to make a profit on every sale they make.
This is beneficial to Tesco s as it will attract customers to their store rather than them going to a
store such as Morrisons to purchase products. An example of Cost and price leadership was when
Tesco began competing against Asdas, Tesco s decided to lower the cost of their prices which they
cut 25% of the price on over 380 items. This method bears advantages such as Increase in profits,
increased brand awareness, an expansion of there customer base. Disadvantages may include
potential of a loss, it may also lead Tesco s to making cheaper products Differentiation Strategy
Differentiation strategy are competitive strategies which Tesco can use to make themselves
different within the market, it can include Tesco s establishing different features, benefits and
services which standout to the customers. Differentiation strategy is the strategy which involves
Tesco s identifying their buyers most important demands and needs in relation to their products and
making a way to suit that product to that buyers needs in terms of

The Greatest Horrors Of Wwii
Throughout history, humans have committed many atrocities against one another. WWII was the
birthplace for some of the worst crimes against humanity ever committed. Often times, we view
the United States as a hero in WWII; as a force that fought on the side of good. However, the
United States is not an exception when it comes to detestable acts in WWII. Aside from
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one of our worst acts as a superpower came during Japanese war crime
investigations after the war was over. During the trials of Unit 731, a deal was made with Ishii Shiro
that the government is still trying to cover up. First, it is important to review Unit 731 and the
U.S cover up so that we may address more detailed issues concerning this topic. We will then
explore the government statements on the issue of medical and military advances as a result of the
deal, and explore evidence that provides a contrary conclusion.
One of the greatest horrors of WWII, Unit 731, is often overlooked when talking about WWII
atrocities, perhaps because it is not taught in the secondary education curriculum. Unit 731 was a
top secret Japanese medical unit during the cold war that focused on producing biological and
bacteriological weapons during WWII. While biological and bacteriological are, by many,
considered to be inhumane in nature, Unit 731 went even further by partaking in human
experimentation in order to achieve greater knowledge about these weapons, and to gain knowledge
about anything that might

The Effects Of Wi Fi On The Library
Background Every day, students spend a lot of time and energy in searching for a seat at their
university library. Not only do they have to take the time to walk over to the library from their
dorm rooms only to find out that all the seats are full, but they must also traverse the floors
awkwardly looking for a seat. It would be much helpful if the students were able to find out the
number and location of available seats, without even leaving their dorm room. To solve this
problem, our group has come up with a system which can count the number of people on the each
floor of a library. To eliminate some of the expenses and make the system more compatible with an
already constructed library, the system we would develop would have to be... Show more content on

The IT facilitates firm to customer, firm to firm, and customer to firm communications online
and on mobile devices. Hence, this trend enables application developers to tailor services to fit
the needs of each consumer [1].As an application developer aims to satisfy a specific need of the
target consumers, the service quality and the satisfaction of the consumers increase. A service
provider shall adapt its product over time by modifying and improving the service it provides,
based on the consumers behaviour and response. A service provider must constantly analyse and
derive tests for errors and generalizability while modelling the service as suggested by Figure 1
below[1]. The advances in mobile data technology now allow consumers to access information
ubiquitously, providing the companies in the service sector with new marketing opportunities.
Newer marketing technologies must be modelled and implemented to adapt to this environment
[2]. The authors objective is to examine how user mobile Internet usage relates to certain unique
characteristics of the mobile Internet space. As opposed to the limitations on geographical
mobility and access faced by PCs, mobile devices can access data wirelessly almost anytime and
anywhere. The South Korean 3G mobile market had over 10 million subscribers in June 2008 [2].

Boo Radley Relationship
Boo Radley and the children s Gradual Relationship
Maycomb County is a small, fictional town in Alabama, whose people are known to quickly
jump to conclusions and judge others strictly because of one s appearance. Harper Lee portrays
her fictional character of Boo Radley, as multidimensional; same as us people living in the real
world. We all have different sides to our personality and some of it may not always be shown on
the surface. What we observe, think or judge about someone based off their external looks, is not
always accurate and the Finch children begin to learn this throughout their connection with Boo
Radley. In Harper Lee s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird

Nathan Radley, Boo continues to secretly watch, care, and help out the Finch children to show
his compassion and appreciation for them. The night when Miss Maudie s house rose up in
flames, the children are ordered by Atticus to sit down and wait patiently on the sidewalk until it
is safe to go back inside their house. They watched as the neighbours tried to help save any
furniture left and how the fire truck arrived just in time to stop the fire from spreading to other
houses, but Miss Maudie s house had already burned to the ground. During all this commotion,
Boo discreetly wrapped a blanket around a distracted Scout to keep her warm, but she was
completely oblivious as to who placed it on her. Later on in the cold night, Jem noticed who did;
Boo Radley. You were so busy looking at the fire you didn t know it when he put the blanket
around you... Just think Scout, if you d just turn around, you da seen him (Lee 96). Scout is
baffled by this event, as she spent almost her entire young life being afraid of Boo Radley, and
here he was helping and watching over her. It was an unusual interaction, but although Scout had
a small bit of fear knowing who draped the blanket over her shoulders, Jem had become even
more curious. After this night, the children realized it was also Boo s deed who mended Jem s

(Organizational Hierarchy, page 1 para. 3) Old organizational models still exist in the real world
where total control is a complete requirement. These old organizational models mainly used in
government and military and sometimes transplanted to the non military public companies and
would work to a certain extent, but they have great limiting effect on promoting and evolving
people. The transformed organizational model is quite different and the operating process is quite
different. Figure below gives us insight into why interconnecting the stovepipes is a better option.
We redisplay the organization in link patterns and we see a totally new perspective. By adding the

Beige Definition
Words cannot be used to describe how sad of a color beige is. Beige is the color of your
malicious teacher s wrinkled khaki pants, or the color of spoiled goods you could find at the
dump. Beige was also the color of my brand new bedroom walls. The disgusting brown shade
permeated my thoughts entirely, and I saw myself in it. My emotions had been painted a sad
shade of beige by my parents recent divorce. I missed my purple walls that, when the right lighting
from the sun hit them, epitomized crocus flowers dancing in a gentle breeze. The exciting,
beautiful decorations that had once been on display for all to see were now hidden within the
confines of beige boxes. I was encapsulated in a beige dungeon. In an attempt to distract myself

Examples Of Judgement In The Crucible
Judgment in society
In western culture, societies are very quick to judge individuals or invent stories in order to place
blame on someone. More times than none, society is faced with one person s word against another
s, the unfortunate part is that only one word is true. Thus, society is then forced to decide who s
lying and who is not, based on opinions and assumptions that follow their own values and beliefs.
This is exactly what happens to John Proctor and Hester Prynne in The Crucible by Arthur Miller
and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In both works, the characters are faced with cruel
punishments, and isolation due to the harsh judgment made by their society.
In The Crucible, John Proctor is sentenced to be hanged because he was accused of ... Show more

is a whore! DANFORTH, dumfounded: You charge ? ABIGAIL: Mr. Danforth, he is lying!
PROCTOR: Mark her! Now she ll suck a scream to stab me with but (Miller, III.374 384). In this
case when society was faced with two stories, but they only believed the one that suited their
values, it went to the extent of witchcraft being more believable than dancing and fooling around in
the forest. In Society vs The Individual In Arthur Miller s The Crucible written by Jean‐Marie
Bonnet, she states The crucible presents us with a small village falling prey to a collective fear
that witchcraft is about, lurking in some of its citizens. (Bonnet, 32). She refers to how the towns
fear of witchcraft leads to the wrongful death of so many citizens. Sadly the town does not
necessarily want to punish those citizens, it is more along of the lines of making a statement
saying they are not afraid. However, in the process of this, they end up judging those that do not

The Bodybuilding Subculture
In addition, to become a member of the bodybuilding subculture one has to be committed to the
sport and to their body. By bodybuilding, I m referring to the drive which some call it an
obsession, for physique perfection including huge amounts of muscle mass and low levels of body
fat. Included in this description is also the drive for maximum intensity both in and out of the gym.
In bodybuildingthere has to be a desire in becoming big, goals defined by its nature should scream
to others as a way to grab people s attention and let them know that you are not normal, that is how
you become a member of this subculture. The average gym lifter has to view a bodybuilder as
peculiar when they see them squatting 500 pounds or bench pressing 300 pounds.... Show more

These groups of people who share an interest and often obsession for building muscle make it a
priority on exercising and eating a proper diet that will help them create more muscle and
transform their bodies. The majority of bodybuilders share the same mentality in a way that all
have an insatiable appetite for the perfect muscular body, one that some non bodybuilders deem
as a bizarre and even freakish art form. This group of individuals has pride in being eccentric and
different from the normal in the aspect of changing their body in order to construct and shaping
the body in a way most desire but are not motivated to make a difference in their lifestyle. As the
majority of bodybuilders spend a large amount of time in the gym exercising, because it takes time
and dedication in order to go down the path of a body transformation, something that most non
bodybuilders don t understand, they expect their bodies to change from one day to the next. And
as soon as they do not see results they give up, it takes years of practice to see results. After
everything that I have seen and learned it has made me want to become a part of the subculture,
there is so much to learn from them in building muscle and transforming the body, there is an
abundance of knowledge behind lifting a weight and knowing the proper techniques in reaching the
perfect muscle

Hydatid Disease Essay
We read with great interest a case report by Tosya et al. on isolated hydatidosis involving the
ascending aorta [1]. Cystic hydatid disease still represents a neglected disease despite being highly
endemic in a myriad of livestock raising regions worldwide, and this case presentation makes
evident how diverse the localization and clinical manifestations of this infection can be. With this
comment, our aim is to extend the discussion by highlighting several important issues. The
described patient initially presented with recurrent arterial embolic events, which is an unusual
manifestation of this disease. The hydatid embolism usually stems from spontaneous or traumatic
rupture of the hydatid cyst, with only a several case reports describing such events in the literature

Although the diagnosis is usually performed with serologic tests, the authors rightly state that up to
50% of infected individuals may present with negative serology. This fact is important to
accentuate, as large numbers of clinicians still seek serologic confirmation of their working
diagnosis. Albeit significant efforts have been made to improve this percentage using synthetic
peptides, recombinant proteins and combinations of defined antigens, it must be noted that only
60% 80% of infected individuals become seropositive [3]. Furthermore, 10% 15% of serological
examinations return negative results due to the wall thickness of the individual hydatid cysts. By
contrast, false positive serological findings can also be found in 10% 15% of patients, primarily as
a result of cross reacting with other parasitic infections, but also in non active disease stages,
patients with malignancy or during pregnancy

  • 4. Change In Education Over the years, different things evolve and change from what society is used to. For example, devices were introduced to have a conversation with people miles away; however, as time continued, individuals were able to talk without a wire restricting them from walking out of the kitchen. Over the decades, the style in males and females changed drastically as well. Although people say change is good, some change might have virtuous intentions but they end up being severely detrimental. Colleges should not interfere with the constant flow of education by incorporating a distraction from learning; however, college officials should merely strive for their students to be comfortable not pampered. Louisiana State Universityinstalled a lazy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless if she is biased or not, a pool in the shape of LSU that has a steady current does not ensure wellbeing and balance at all. To point out, places to study and take naps are more appropriate in restoring sanity than a place to soak up ultra violet rays from the sun. It simply is not feasible to believe the new lazy river will encourage people to go home and study for exams or finish degrees. The lazy river may influence individuals to apply there, but that does not guarantee the academic savvy students to attend college there. A lazy river is deeming the college to be more along the lines of a water park. Baton Rouge has plenty of relaxing places to be sociable and restore wellbeing including: the huge water park called Blue Bayou, the numerous beauty salons, and the countless gyms. Austin Baker, a newly graduated student searching for a college to attend, stated, People may say, This is a country club, I don t want my kid to go there, and that is exactly what I thought. I didn t want to go to a school that provides everything. I want to be independent, live on my own, the normal college life. Just as Baker has mentioned, the installation of a lazy river may make some students feel as if they are having their independence ripped away from them. One may feel dependent on the college, because while they are going to school they are spoiled. Once he or she graduates and are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Captain Aimee Le Medec Research Paper No words can describe the cloud of sorrow that hangs over Halifax and surrounding areas. December 6th, 1917 will forever mark a tragedy in our history. I am very blessed that my business and I survived the explosion, but I too am still grieving the loved ones I lost. As I walk down to what once was known as the Richmond District of Halifax, it hard to imagine that a street was once here, a home there, because all that is visible now is debris. Debris that is covered with a light blanket of snow on this cold January day. Nestled in the heart of Halifax lies the legendary harbour. The day is December 6th, 1817. It seems as if it is a normal day in Halifax. The two ships that caused the explosion were the Imo and the Mont Blanc . The Mont Blanc was a French general cargo and a munitions ship owned by Cie Generale Transatlantique. The ship was considered very old yet had a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, I think that Captain Aimee Le Medec is ultimately to blame because he abandoned ship. He could of prevented the explosion through many different ways such as opening the hatches or turning the boat back to sea. Instead he did none of these. In addition Captain Aimee Le Medec blatantly ignored putting the red flag up on the Mont Blanc. For 20 minutes crowds collected around Halifax Harbour to watch the billowing smoke filled with sparks and fire as the Mont Blanc drifted towards the wharf. If the red flag was up then these people would have been warned that there were munitions on board and the people would of had a chance to run from the wharf. Finally I that Captain Aimee Le Medec is ultimately to blame because he could have moved the ship towards port when the Mont Blanc encountered the Imo in the narrow harbour. Instead he entered a state of shock, ordering the crew to abandon ship. I feel that Captain Aimee Le Medec never took initiative to stop this tragedy which he should feel ashamed ... A pesticide is any substance used to kill, repel, or control certain forms of plant or animal life that is pests. Pesticides include herbicides for destroying weeds and other unwanted vegetation, insecticides for controlling a wide variety of insects, fungicides used to prevent the growth of molds and mildew, disinfectants for preventing the spread of bacteria, and compounds used to control mice and rats. Because of the widespread use of agricultural chemicals in food production, people are exposed to low levels of pesticide residues through their diets. We cannot syet have a clear understanding of the health effects of these pesticide residues. Other evidence suggests that children are very susceptible to adverse effects from exposure to pesticides, including neurological developmental effects. One of the important benefit of pesticide use is the eradication of certain species which cause threats to forest trees. Example, budworms or loopers can kill thousands of trees due to defoliation. • 7. The Benefit Of Bilingualism Benefits of Bilingualism In modern society, owning a place in the bilingual community is a special trait that allows for people to have a true connection with one another. Bilingual is a term describing people who can speak more than one language, and with more than 7000 languages inhibiting the world, the demand for bilingual speakers is steadily growing (Okal, 2014). The number of people who speak more than one language is increasing world wide as it is estimated that over a billion people in the world speak more than one language fluently (Okal, 2014, p. 226). With that being said, some studies show that approximately one in five Americans speak a language other than English at home, and that is just in the United States alone. Moreover, the number of people who are able to speak more than one language is more than likely going to exhibit an increase in the near future as well (Callahan Gandara, 2014). Along with an increase in speakers, an increase in demand for these speakers will increase too. Bilingualism opens the gateway to opportunities and benefits for people all around the world. However, many people do not see the importance of increasing the spread of bilingual speakers throughout the nation s communities. Without these bilingual speakers, various people and their neighborhoods would not be able to communicate with one another because of the large language barrier sitting between them. That is why being bilingual contains many benefits, including its brain improvements, career benefits, and social skill boosts that will help out the speaker and his or her listeners in the long run. Opposing Viewpoints Of course, the art of being bilingual may display a few faults. One of these faults may be that both languages can be present at the same time, which means that when a bilingual person hears a word, he or she is able to make a connection with both languages based on the sounds. In a study by Dr. Viorica Marian and Anthony Shook (2012), the authors explain how bilingual speakers connect sounds with both languages. For instance, if an English and Spanish bilingual speaker hears the word to to, his or her brain may instantly try to find words in both languages containing the sound to gives ... • 8. The Washington Metro Transit Authority It is against this segregated backdrop that many of the District s transportation initiatives began. In its 2002 Transit Development Study, the Washington Metro Transit Authority (WMATA) cited several reasons for its focus on transit improvements. Among these reasons was the recognition that the District was growing but not equally in all areas (WMATA, 2002). Its list of Promising Transit Routes included routes extending from areas of traditionally higher income per household and lower unemployment rates to areas of traditionally lower income per household and higher unemployment rates. For example, 4 of the 5 routes involved routes to the Minnesota Avenue station from neighborhoods such as Georgetown and Woodley Park. NeighborhoodInfo DC, Urban Institute s data aggregator, provides profile information for DC s 39 neighborhood clusters and helps to put the variances of income and unemployment in perspective while also assisting with understanding the rationale behind the selection of these routes by WMATA. In terms of safety this community is working to provide a safe environment for residents. Nathaniel is the protagonist and is convinced that a frightful destiny awaits him. The definition of investment is the spending by firms on capital good such as new machines etc. Finally the definition of interest rates is the proportion of a loan that is charged as interest to the borrower, normally expressed as an annual percentage. In the UK the interest rates are set by the Monetary PolicyCommittee and are usually used in order to influence levels of aggregate demand. Primarily, you must understand that lowering the rate of interest will make it cheaper for people to borrow as well as make it cheaper to pay back existing loans. As a result, firms may use this moneythat they have saved to spend on upgrading the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, if the interest rate was low before the cut then it may not appear to have a very big impact because people will have already have been taking advantage of the small cost of borrowing. Obviously if the interest rate was very high discouraging people from borrowing and in turn reducing consumer expenditure and investment by firms, then a rapid cut could see a high rise in the aggregate demand. Moreover, if someone is in the middle of paying back a mortgage on something like a house and interest rates fall they will effectively have more money because they will not be paying more on top of their mortgage on interest. On the other hand, the reasons for increases of consumer expenditure and investment levels as mentioned above are only all valid if ceteris paribus is assumed. In reality, both factors of aggregate demand can be affected by multiple other external factors for example, consumer expenditure can be affected by the marginal prosperity to consume amongst consumers and therefore if this is very low then a cut in interest will see a minimal change in consumption and investment levels. In terms of consumers and firms if a large cut were to occur it would have a far superior effect in comparison to a small cut which could potentially have no impact. As well as this it can also be affected by the Income Elasticity ofDemand this means the responsiveness of the demand for a good to a change in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Inwagen s paper attempts to give a possible reason for why there is evil in this world. However, this essay will attempt to give reasons for why Inwagen s reason for evil does not explain evil without compromising God s essential quality of moral perfection. Inwagen sets the basic format for the problem of evil as thus: God has non negotiable properties of omnipotence and moral perfection, there is evil in this world, if an omnipotent and morally perfect being created this world there shouldn t be evil in it, therefore, there is no God. Firstly, Inwagen examines a theist s reply that God brings a greater good out of the evils in the world. However, the problem with this reply, Inwagen notes, is that it does not take into account God s omnipotence. In other words, God could have brought out a greater good from evil than He has. This implies either God is not omnipotent and so is unable to bring about the greater good or if He is omnipotent then this reply implies a moral imperfection. Therefore, Inwagen admits, his defense must include ...the proposition that God was unable bring about the greater goods without allowing evils... (Reason and Responsibility, 110). Secondly, a theist may reply that there is evil in this world because it allows for an understanding of good. However, Inwagen again notes God s omnipotence which could teach this contrast through something less evil, such as vivid nightmares. (Reason and Responsibility, 110) Lastly, Inwagen believes, a theist may reply using free will. Inwagen defines free will as a free choice between different options, for example A or B, where God cannot make a person choose A over B because it is a contradiction to the definition of free will. Moreover, humans abuse free will which causes or produces a certain amount of evil . Nonetheless, free will is good that outweighs its evil affects, so, that is why God has allowed it. The stronger an individual or in this case a nation is, the more challenges and trials one must face. As the federal government s power increased, the more rebellion and revolution surfaced. Many will say that the more power equaled less problems. However, that is simply untrue, because someone will always have to make a choice, like how as long as there is strength in this world, there will be a vulnerability to overcome. For example, the Whiskey Rebellion and the Nullification Crisis were determining factors of how opposition will come as long as there is power in the midst. Therefore, these two specific historical markers help show the true colors of a nation through the motives and effectiveness of federal power and constant opposition. Although the purpose of the missionaries was the spread their religion in China, the Kangxi emperor was quick to realise that some of them were good artists. He being a progressive thinker, thought it would be a good way to introduce his court artists, the Han Chinese court painters (artisans), to new styles and techniques of painting from the west. This might have been his way of glorifying his rule, and at the same time, embellish the palace with new forms of art. Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise as part of their daily schedule, and when animals exercise is lacking, health issues are occurring more frequently. For instance, stressed animals signal depression or psychoses. When elephants at zoos sway from side to side, the people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but it is actually a signal of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental stimulation and physical exercise. To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants to control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do not deserve this, but still lack exercise. For example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee County Zoo, 64% of their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the zoo because at zoos they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older. As a result of this lack of exercise provided by zoos, zoos are not matching the animals natural exercise behaviors, so the animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live by themselves even if they are meant to live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants live peacefully and splash each other with their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough space to play and enjoy themselves. The average size of elephants is 7 feet, and they live in 12 foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet to move around. Elephants can not move, nor use their trunks and this causes them to die ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Summary Of Minorities In The Rise Of The Rocket Girls To be treated as lesser or unworthy is a terrible thing. What happened to all men are created equal ? I guess that only applies if you are a straight, white man. A minority is a part of a population differing from others in some characteristics and are often subjected to different treatment. That said, minorities were mistreated and shoved to the back of history. In Aria by Richard Rodriguez the Rodriguez family feel what it means to be a minorityin their everyday life. They re held at arm s length by the people around them, and struggle to assimilate. In Rise of the Rocket Girls by Nathalia Holt it s not race that sets these women behind. It is simply the fact that they are women. In both novels society is presenting more challenges to a certain group, but that does not stop them. Even today minorities are still at a disadvantage. That does not stop people from pursuing their goals and dreams. As a student perseverance is needed because you cannot give up easily or you just will not make it. Aria has many counter arguments and debates revolving around assimilation. To better visualize the meaning of assimilationimagine having a group of blue blocks all exactly the same. You bring in a few different colored blocks red, yellow, green ones. In order for them to fit in you paint them all blue. Isn t that erasing part of who they are? • 38. Essay about A Blessing James Wright In the poem A Blessing, James Wright analyzes the relationship between human beings and nature through the descriptive explanation of an encounter between his friend and himself and two Indian horses. He shows that although we are able to relate and interact with the animals we don t have the ability to join them or as Wright puts it: break into blossom (26 27). Wright uses imagery and personification to describe the naturehe witnesses as he escapes from the stress of humanlife. The ponies in this poem are personified by comparing them to human beings, mainly through the description of their emotions. This personification lessens the gap between the author and the horses and separates him from civilization represented by the highways... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This point is proved further as A light breezes moves [the author] to caress [the ponies] long ear (23), showing that nature itself is encouraging the merging of the two sides, because the wind encourages the hand to pet the horses ear. Another simile is used to describe the horse s ear as delicate as the skin over a girl s wrist (24), again blurring the line between human and nature. Finally Wright comes to the realization that if he were blessed enough he would be able to step out of his body and break into blossom, thus becoming a part of nature. But, he realizes that is past the realm of reality and therefore cannot be done. Wright examines the relationship of human being and nature using his descriptive language including such devices as imagery and similes. Wright sees the idea of nature and humans joining as one as a possible feat and he shows this though his written experience with these Indian ponies. He initially shows the contrast of the two worlds, but they grow on each other and end up becoming one. Wright sees the loneliness of the ponies, gains their affection, as the ponies are very welcoming. He ultimately ends up wanting to join them by being able to break into blossom (26 27), but he is unable to do so because he reached the maximum threshold of the union between humans and nature. Which brings us back to the Wright is able to disregard the average day for humans and take a day to appreciate the true value of nature in its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imagine living your day to day life without a job or a home. Going from place to place, farm to farm, just looking for your next meal. Whether you are able to put yourself in this place or not it will always have been the lives of George and Lennie. Lennie s troublemaking actions, and George s controlling trai Their struggles and those of people during the Great Depression are unfortunate, but are the fuel for Of Mice and Men s value. This book holds value historically, because of its setting and the struggles presented because of it. John Steinbeck uses thoroughly developed characters to thicken the plot of Of Mice and Men. He uses distinct features and qualities to differentiate one character from the next. The differences between characters is what creates several of the conflicts in the novella. Curley s antagonistic character toward people of large stature causes tension between himself and Lennie, instantly creating conflict. The conflicts in the plot are what makes Of Mice and Men entertaining. Lennie is not conscious of some of his actions. He does before he thinks. Attention is directed toward him, drawing the reader s attention in and making them want to know how things will be taken care of. Lennie is talking to Curley s wife about how he likes to pet soft things. She then mentions how soft her own hair is. Lennie instantly begins to pet her hair. She wants him to stop, but Lennie gets scared and covers her mouth, and later breaking her neck leading to death. Lennie s big fingers fell to stroking her hair. Don t you muss it up, she said. Lennie said Oh that s nice, and he stroked harder. Oh that s nice. ... Lennie was in a panic. His face was contorted. She screamed then, and Lennie s other hand closed over her mouth and nose (Steinbeck 45). Whether it is a serious fight, or a silly quarrel, Lennie s actions are entertaining. • 43. Sugar Cultivation During The Nineteenth Century Essay In the British Caribbean during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, sugar cultivation came into existence as the Europeans slowly moved away from the production of tobacco. This was done for two main reasons; the first being, the Europeans saw how lucrative the production of the sugarcane crop can be for them and secondly, it would have significantly reduced the cost of sweeteners for both men and women of British descent. Honey, being the only substitution for sugar at the time, was considered to be very expensive and as a result an alternative was needed. In order for this production system to be fully adopted, the Europeans required a labour force that could endure the hardships associated with toiling in the sugar plantation. This is where the enslaved Africans were introduced. To the Europeans, Africans were considered to be much more effective because in their view they were seen as having no soul. These Africans were taken from the West African coast primarily around the Senegal River and Angola, (Campbell 1) placed upon slave ships and brought into the Caribbeanto be sold to different estate owners or managers. From then onwards, this was the introduction of slaveryand as such this essay would be based upon the book entitled Beyond Massa. This book was written by John F. WWII was the birthplace for some of the worst crimes against humanity ever committed. Often times, we view the United States as a hero in WWII; as a force that fought on the side of good. However, the United States is not an exception when it comes to detestable acts in WWII. Aside from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, one of our worst acts as a superpower came during Japanese war crime investigations after the war was over. During the trials of Unit 731, a deal was made with Ishii Shiro that the government is still trying to cover up. First, it is important to review Unit 731 and the U.S cover up so that we may address more detailed issues concerning this topic. We will then explore the government statements on the issue of medical and military advances as a result of the deal, and explore evidence that provides a contrary conclusion. One of the greatest horrors of WWII, Unit 731, is often overlooked when talking about WWII atrocities, perhaps because it is not taught in the secondary education curriculum. Unit 731 was a top secret Japanese medical unit during the cold war that focused on producing biological and bacteriological weapons during WWII. While biological and bacteriological are, by many, considered to be inhumane in nature, Unit 731 went even further by partaking in human experimentation in order to achieve greater knowledge about these weapons, and to gain knowledge about anything that might ... • 55. Examples Of Judgement In The Crucible Judgment in society In western culture, societies are very quick to judge individuals or invent stories in order to place blame on someone. More times than none, society is faced with one person s word against another s, the unfortunate part is that only one word is true. Thus, society is then forced to decide who s lying and who is not, based on opinions and assumptions that follow their own values and beliefs. This is exactly what happens to John Proctor and Hester Prynne in The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In both works, the characters are faced with cruel punishments, and isolation due to the harsh judgment made by their society. In The Crucible, John Proctor is sentenced to be hanged because he was accused of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, that backfires and leads to his death PROCTOR, breathless and in agony: It [Abigail] is a whore! DANFORTH, dumfounded: You charge ? ABIGAIL: Mr. Danforth, he is lying! PROCTOR: Mark her! Now she ll suck a scream to stab me with but (Miller, III.374 384). In this case when society was faced with two stories, but they only believed the one that suited their values, it went to the extent of witchcraft being more believable than dancing and fooling around in the forest. In Society vs The Individual In Arthur Miller s The Crucible written by Jean‐Marie Bonnet, she states The crucible presents us with a small village falling prey to a collective fear that witchcraft is about, lurking in some of its citizens. (Bonnet, 32). She refers to how the towns fear of witchcraft leads to the wrongful death of so many citizens. Sadly the town does not necessarily want to punish those citizens, it is more along of the lines of making a statement saying they are not afraid. However, in the process of this, they end up judging those that do not follow their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Bodybuilding Subculture In addition, to become a member of the bodybuilding subculture one has to be committed to the sport and to their body. By bodybuilding, I m referring to the drive which some call it an obsession, for physique perfection including huge amounts of muscle mass and low levels of body fat. Included in this description is also the drive for maximum intensity both in and out of the gym. In bodybuildingthere has to be a desire in becoming big, goals defined by its nature should scream to others as a way to grab people s attention and let them know that you are not normal, that is how you become a member of this subculture. The average gym lifter has to view a bodybuilder as peculiar when they see them squatting 500 pounds or bench pressing 300 pounds.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These groups of people who share an interest and often obsession for building muscle make it a priority on exercising and eating a proper diet that will help them create more muscle and transform their bodies. The majority of bodybuilders share the same mentality in a way that all have an insatiable appetite for the perfect muscular body, one that some non bodybuilders deem as a bizarre and even freakish art form. This group of individuals has pride in being eccentric and different from the normal in the aspect of changing their body in order to construct and shaping the body in a way most desire but are not motivated to make a difference in their lifestyle. As the majority of bodybuilders spend a large amount of time in the gym exercising, because it takes time and dedication in order to go down the path of a body transformation, something that most non bodybuilders don t understand, they expect their bodies to change from one day to the next. And as soon as they do not see results they give up, it takes years of practice to see results. After everything that I have seen and learned it has made me want to become a part of the subculture, there is so much to learn from them in building muscle and transforming the body, there is an abundance of knowledge behind lifting a weight and knowing the proper techniques in reaching the perfect muscle ... • 57. Hydatid Disease Essay We read with great interest a case report by Tosya et al. on isolated hydatidosis involving the ascending aorta [1]. Cystic hydatid disease still represents a neglected disease despite being highly endemic in a myriad of livestock raising regions worldwide, and this case presentation makes evident how diverse the localization and clinical manifestations of this infection can be. With this comment, our aim is to extend the discussion by highlighting several important issues. The described patient initially presented with recurrent arterial embolic events, which is an unusual manifestation of this disease. The hydatid embolism usually stems from spontaneous or traumatic rupture of the hydatid cyst, with only a several case reports describing such events in the literature [2]. Still, histopathologic evaluation of the embolus can be pursed, which in some instances may reveal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the diagnosis is usually performed with serologic tests, the authors rightly state that up to 50% of infected individuals may present with negative serology. This fact is important to accentuate, as large numbers of clinicians still seek serologic confirmation of their working diagnosis. Albeit significant efforts have been made to improve this percentage using synthetic peptides, recombinant proteins and combinations of defined antigens, it must be noted that only 60% 80% of infected individuals become seropositive [3]. Furthermore, 10% 15% of serological examinations return negative results due to the wall thickness of the individual hydatid cysts. By contrast, false positive serological findings can also be found in 10% 15% of patients, primarily as a result of cross reacting with other parasitic infections, but also in non active disease stages, patients with malignancy or during pregnancy ...
