Hanging by Hitchcock s Rope Famously known as The Master of Suspense , Alfred Hitchcock

Hitchcock s career started in the silent era of films, gained increased success through talking
pictures, and soared into infamy when color filmbecame common. Hitchcock s famous
cinematography, editing, directing of his thoughtfully selected actors, and extraordinary attention
to detail, are obvious reasons why there is no denying that he is one of the greatest directors the
film industry has ever seen. OSU Media student, Joseph Ford, confirms why Hitchcock is his
favorite directors, Hitchcock s lighting and shot sequences are unmatched, he was the ultimate
perfectionist and, in my opinion, there is hardly a flaw in any of his films (Ford). There are
endless lists and debates about which Alfred Hitchcockfilm is the greatest, and each one of his
movies deserves serious consideration. It could be contested that with the unique story, intriguing
characters portrayed by great actors, and the extraordinary cinematography, that Alfred Hitchcock s

15th Century BCE Phoenicia
Communication is the imparting or exchanging of information or news, whether it is orally or
written. In 15th century BCE Phoenicia, Phoenicians created their alphabet from the Proto
Canaanite alphabet after straying from their original cuneiform script. The Phoenician alphabet
was the first alphabet widely used as it spread beyond the Mediterranean. Many other languages
origin can be traced back to this very alphabet. Another example of communication is the postal
service installed in 540 BCE by Cyrus of the Persian Empire. At this point in time the Persian
Empire stretched 3,000 kilometers east to west and 1,500 kilometers north to south, so Cyrus had
to find a way to keep in touch with his large empire. By the time Darius took over the

droughts since over a decade. As the article emphasise that the major reason behind the grief and
catastrophe in the region is droughtfollowed by flood, hailstorm and irregularity in rainfall. But
ecological and environmental factors alone are not responsible for the crisis in the region. There are
other reasons such as failure of government programmes which has been applied for mitigating

For overcoming the problem related to PDS one should give emphasis to universal public
distribution system as in other state of India such as Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu
instead of targeted public distribution system (TPDS). The reason is, in TPDS one has to target
the beneficiaries to find out who deserves BPL category and who deserves APL category and it
is in the process of targeting where the biasness and corruption starts. But when the distribution
system becomes universal means everyone is eligible corruption declines because it reduces the
power of authorities to do corruption through colluding and divergence and leakage of foodgrains

enough times to come to the ration shop, stand in line and wait for his turn to purchase the grain
but real poor can wait for its turn.
Since major portion of population in the region is rural and is dependent on agriculture in one way
or the other and when drought occurs their livelihood is severely hampered. Thus there must be
some substitute work so that the people can earn their livelihood. As far as industrialisation is
considered this region is the most poor though it is very rich in resource availability. In comparison

Narrative Essay On Driving
Driving at night can be dangerous, especially when you had a long exhausting day. Sometimes I
find myself in a rush and can t help myself but to speed. The night I got into my first accident
was the night I learned a really valuable lesson. Which is not to speed. It was 9:45pm, rainy
night, on December 15, It was getting close to the end of my 12 hour shift, at Romoland Market.
It was a busy and long day. Customers kept on coming in and out consistently. The lines was
backed up all the way by the coolers. No time to take a 15 minute break. Finally, closing time was
around the corner, and I was eager to get home to my bed. Excited to go home, I jumped into my
1996 Kia Sephia. I got to the 74 East Highway, which was a two lane freeway. Everything was
going well as usual. Cars were passing me by at 60 miles per hour. Then, I felt something strange
that was coming from the steeringwheel. At the time, I just thought it was normal for a beat up
car to swerve. It felt like an alignment job was needed really soon. Brakes were also poor. I had to
stomp on the brakes all the way down in order for the car to stop normally. So me being me, I
ignored the issue and continued on my 45 minute drive home, which was in Loma Linda. Traffic
was slowing down, that s when my body started to feel weak, and my eyelids was so heavy, I was
trying my best to keep them opened, from how tired I was. I was struggling to keep them up.
Minutes went by, and I decided to speedup an extra 10 miles per

Comparing Cinderella And Cinderella
Traditionally fairytales have morals for their audiences. Throughout time, these stories develop
themes and ideas that allow readers to discover their purpose. These versions let the audience
envision the story from a newer perspective. Modified versions reveal the underlying cause of the
storyline and its characters. It is clear that The Little Glass Slipper published by Charles Perraultin
1697 and Cinderellapublished by Brothers Grimmin 1812, display the overall modification of the
main idea. Within both tales these themes can be represented through the change in time, the
overall plot and character development. The newer purpose of modified stories is demonstrated
in Cinderella . The fairytale originated from the story, The Little Glass Slipper, which was
written by Charles Perrault. The original tale was reformed through the Brothers Grimm version,
otherwise known as Cinderella . When analyzing the tales, the reader notices that each story has
its own moral, ending and plot. Both the 1697 and the 1812 versions results in a new ending .The
original tale concludes with kindness overruling beauty. The second version concludes with the
stepsisters being punished for their actions. The moral of Perrault s version describes Cinderella s
kindness to overrule the cruelness of society. The newer versions such as the Brothers Grimm tale
display a differing moral, which is that an individual s misbehavior will be punished. These endings

Prenatal Human Development
The creation of a human being is a miraculous process. When many people hear human
development, they tend to think about infancy or adolescent years when kids go through puberty,
but the most amazing developmental processes take place in the prenatal stage. The amount of
growth and change that occurs during the nine month gestational period is almost
incomprehensible. Prenatal development is broken down into three stages, the Germinal stage,
the Embryonic Stage, and the Fetal stage. This paper will mainly focus on the embryonic stage
because there is a vast amount of crucial development that happens during this period. The
embryonic stage is also exciting because it is during this stage that the mass of cells that are
supposed to be a human, starts to actually resemble a baby. The embryonic stage begins two
weeks after conception, after implantation has taken place, and lasts until week eight. During this
time, some body structure begins to appear and by week eight, the embryo has all basic organs and
body parts. They are all very fragile and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The embryonic stage is a critical point in human development where the embryo is very
susceptible to teratogens. Teratogens are any harmful substances, such as drugs or toxins, or
conditions, such as infections or malnutrition, that can cause harm to the embryo or impair
development. The period of exposure and the amount of exposure are key factors in teratogens
affecting the embryo. The embryo could also have a genetic disadvantage and be more vulnerable
to teratogens or certain biological conditions. So, although there are certain dangers during this
stage, some incredible development also takes place. By the end of the embryonic stage, the
embryo is about a gram in weight and one inch in

Capital Gains Tax in Nigeria

Introduction
Discussing capital gain tax without first presenting a general overview of the entire concept of
taxation will be tantamount to putting a cart before a horse. It is therefore very important that
justice be done by explaining taxation and various types of taxes.
Taxation: A General overview
Tax and taxation has been variously defined by different authors. Oyegbile (1996) defines tax as a
sum of money paid by citizens of a country, state or community to the government for public
purpose. According to him taxation is one of the sources of income for government; such income is

deceased in order to obtain letters of administration of the estate. The chargeable amount is
based on the open market value of the estate, as at the date of death of the deceased. * Capital
transfer tax: This tax is imposed on the capital value of properties transferred. This tax was
introduced in nigeria in 1979 via the federal government official gazette No. 18, vol. 66. The
law was enacted to curb embezzlement of public funds by private individuals since the bulk of
any money stolen will be subjected to heavy taxation when the estate is to be transferred. *
severance tax: This tax is levied on the extraction of natural resources like agricultural produce,
forest resources, petroleum and metallic stones e. t. c. this tax is levied to ensure that the benefits

Capital gains tax: This tax came about as a result of Decree 44 of 1977. It is a tax on the gains
which speculators or other property dealers realize on sale of real estate or landed property. * Site

encourage owners of undeveloped land to put them into immediate profitable use.

Cause And Effects Of Prohibition
What would happen if one were to prohibit all alcohol production and consumption? Well, it
happened before, from the Prohibition movement. Prohibition dates back to the early days of
America, when it was still a colony. However, due to it being a mostly orthodox movement, it had
not gained much traction. Until, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Prohibitions popularity surged;
most notably, in 1873 when a group of nuns and their followers sang and prayed in front of a
drugstore in Hillsboro, Ohio (Hill 10). This influx of support led to the passing of the 18th
Amendment, the only Amendment to ever be repealed. Whether the boost in popularity is due
mostly to the increasing amount of Christians, crime dramas, or immigration may never be known.
Yet, the causes and laws of Prohibition did play a significant role in the 1920s because they
showed the influence of lobby groups socially and federally, taught cautionary lessons about
American law and policy, and it greatly influenced our relations with other countries, specifically
Canada.
Firstly, Prohibition prominently displayed the power and influence of a lobby group in social and
government spheres. For example, the Women s War can be attributed to the closing of over
25,000 drinking establishments (Hill 12). This shows the major effects that the ASL, Anti Saloon
League, had on the social perceptions on drinking; the establishments only closed because they
were either visited by large mobs of people or were suspecting they

created by the researcher (see Appendix B). Two levels of quality were: Level 1 corresponded to
state licensing such as acquiring a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) license;
Level 2 corresponded to accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young

professionalizing the childcare staff through professional development training, higher education,

Eutrophication in te Chesapeake Bay Essay
Introduction
What is your topic/issue within that topic?
Eutrophication is a concern in the Chesapeake Bay. Eutrophication is caused by excessive amounts
of nutrients. Excessive nutrients in the bay have negative effects on the bay s ecosystem. The extra
nutrients make the environment unbalanced. The extra nutrients cause a chain reaction that
eventually kills most of the organisms in that area. This is what is known as a dead zone.
What is your personal interest in the topic?
This topic is interesting to me because it is a very local issue. I eat the seafood out of the
Chesapeake, I fish in many of its tributaries, and I visit many sights built around this watershed. I
live in Lancaster County which is focused on in many studies because ... Show more content on

It is understood that there is not just one problem causing the dead zone in the bay. Two main
contributors are the focus. Details are presented on the problems brought to the bay by agriculture,
and development. The language is easy to understand and the scientific and environmental message
is conveyed in a way that can be followed.
Summary of source The importance of the Chesapeake Bay is introduced. The bay is home to a
large amount of seafood businesses, and many people fish the bay and its tributaries for sport.
Grass beds are essential to many of the organisms living in this ecosystem, but are being destroyed
by pollution. Agriculture involves more than a fourth of the bay s watershed. This makes
agricultural runoff a big focus. Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus causes eutrophication. These
nutrients come from pesticides and sewage also. A goal was set in 1985 to cut back the percent of
nutrients being put into the bay by these two sources. It is thought that redirecting the flow of soil
with nutrients in them will reduce the runoff, but if the nutrients seep into groundwater they still
get into the Chesapeake Bay. Farmers have ways to help reduce these nutrient levels, but it is not
the cheapest way to farm, so not all farmers are doing their part to save the bay. Another
contributor of runoff land development. Runoff can occur from exposed land being prepared to be
developed, or because of what has been used to replace what used to naturally be.

Ishiguro s Emphasis On The Post-Human Figure Of The Clones
The novel s emphasis on the post human figure of the clone also evokes the uncanny the clones

Junkies, prostitutes, winos, tramps (Never, 2005, p. 164, emphasis mine), Ishiguro highlights the

There were substantial scientific developments at the time of the novel s setting, with the successful
cloning of Dolly the sheep provoking widespread anxiety surrounding the potential for human

avoids direct interaction with the conditions or language of Science. Instead, the novel is
preoccupied with domesticity, frequently signified by Kathy s driving around the countryside and
appreciating having only the roads, the big grey sky and my daydreams for company (Never, p.

interiority of the imagination and the clones relationships. Atwood has indicated the uncanny nature
of science fiction, arguing that it is the kind of writing that simply makes you feel strange (2011,

Ocean Acidification Impacts
Introduction
The potential impacts of ocean acidification pose several threats on marine organisms and
ecosystem processes. Many marine species are sensitive to changes in ocean. The effects of
acidification on individual species will have ripple effects throughout the ecosystem. So, species
that might not be directly affected by acidification may still be influenced by ocean acidification
if their predators or prey are affected by changes in water chemistry. These food web interactions
are difficult to predict, and may play out in unexpected ways. Acidification s potential effects on
marine ecosystems are an economic concern as well. These issues need to be addressed because
they are all issues today, not the future. Ocean acidification may also be threatening not only
marine life but our own way of life as humans. Although ocean acidification may not directly
impact specific organisms, it s impact will have a ripple effect that is felt in our own ecosystem we

action that must be taken against acidification, some of the other options appear to have the
potential to buy time, by relieving the pressure of other stressors, and help marine life face
unavoidable acidification. Although the existing legal basis to take action shows few gaps, policy
challenges are significant: tackling them will mean succeeding in various areas of environmental
management where we failed to a large extent so

Essay On Australian Federation
Between the first fleet landing in Australia until the year 1900, Australia had six different
governments enforcing different taxes, with their own militia trying to stay self sufficient and was
not recognized as a nation. Australia relied immensely on British support and the governments of
Australia realised that If there was any threat of war Australia would not be adept enough to protect
itself. In 1901 the six current British ruled colonies in Australia came together to create the
Commonwealth of Australia, these six colonies became the original six states of Australia. New
South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. I recently
took a trip to Parliament house in Canberra, ACT where I learnt about the process and power of the
Federation from our local M.P. Jamie Briggs. The federation of Australia was designed to allow the
public to have a voice in the matters brought to parliament. In my opinion the federation of
Australia went on to develop and become one of the world s fairest and most accepting
governments. According the Australian Constitution (the most important document in Australian
federation history) the states are allowed to self govern things that happen within their boundaries,
(e.g. police, hospitals, education and public transport ). Therefore the... Show more content on

There are 15 principal grand strategies that are aimed at helping a business reach its long term goals.
Concentrated Growth
Concentrated growth is the first strategy of the fifteen principal grand strategies, Pearce Robinson
(2015) define concentration growth as firms that direct resources to the profitable growth of a
single product, in a single market, with a single dominant technology. Concentrated growth
typically sees the most success in mature markets where the product market is not saturated.
Concentrated growth is one of the lowest risk strategies, but only when used in a stable market
because it typically does not perform well in a market with a lot of up and down movement. A
volatile market could be disastrous if a company focuses in on one product and the market crashes
down around it. Sacramento Business College could potentially use concentrated growth to build
strength in one of their three major programs to build stronger enrollment and program upgrades.
The Information Technology (IT) program would benefit the most from adopting a concentrated
growth strategy because upgrading the curriculum would be fairly simple compared the other
programs and would be the most profitable program to have increased enrollment in.
Market Development
Market development is the strategy of rebranding preexisting products, potentially with minor
cosmetic changes, and targeting new markets

Insider Trading Scandal
Insider Trading is the illegal activity of buying and selling a company s stocks while using
secret information from a person who works for the company (Merriam Webster, 2015). This
illegal activity happens all the time in the world but it is also difficult to spot when it occurs.
This is true because only a few people know about the information this is being obtained illegally.
A good example would be the fantasy football case that happened in October of 2015. This case
involved an employee named Ethan Haskell who worked for the notoriously known DraftKings
website (Press, 2015). Both DraftKings and FanDuel employees are not allowed to play daily
fantasy sports through the website that they work for. This is true because the employees who...

People would have to draft their teams with groups of people and manually do the scoring.
However, we are lucky enough that our species has created technology that is advanced enough
to automatically do the scoring and keep track of all of the stats for us. Even though it s a good
perk that we have technology to do this for us, it is terrible for the people who do not have the
insider trading. Without insider trading, plenty of people who play the fantasy sports are at a
downfall compared to the competitors with the insider trading. The fact of the matter is that
insider trading is impossible to stop just like anything else is. For example, it would be absolutely
astonishing if we as a world could stop murder or theft. But each and every individual acts and
thinks differently than one another. For just that reason alone, it will be almost next to impossible
to stop insider trading in any given situation, from fantasy football, to selling a stock. As long as one
person gets to benefit from it, it will continue to occur. Daily Fantasy sports is an amazing
industry when it comes to revenue and popularity. By the year 2020, daily fantasy sports are

Module 2 # 7
One of the five theoretical perspectives mention is the Conflict Theory. The main ideas of this
theory are conflict underlies all social relations because of injustice in society. Social change is
desirable, especially when it can lead to greater equality: the powerful who are the haves impose
their values and belief on the haves not s. This is influenced by critical sociology One of the
examples that come to mind is The American civil rights movement. In history African American
have been treated so harsh from being kidnap from their homeland to being stereotype for
walking down the street with a hood on. For many years African American did not receive the
same amount of privileges because of the color of their skin. They were not able to go where
they wanted when they wanted. They were not able to vote, go to the same restrooms. All they
want was the same rights as everyone else. They were beaten, murderer jailed, hosed with water

African Americans from being treated with the same level of respect as everyone else. They went

How Mauna Kea Should Remain Cultural And Not Allow Project...
We are Mauna Kea Mauna Kea should remain cultural and not allow project TMT (thirty meter
telescope) on the mountain. According to Hawaiian legend, Mauna Kea is the meeting place of
Papa (Earth Mother) and Wakea (Sky Father) who are first ancestors in Hawaiian history. We as
Hawaiians view Mauna Kea as a temple or house of worship. In our cultural understanding, it is
believed that Mauna Keawas not created by man, but by Ke Akua (God). Mauna Kea is both the
burial ground and the embodiment of the most sacred ancestors. This is why I am advocating that
a thirty meter telescope, or TMT does not belong on Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea is a volcano on the
island of Hawai i that is sacred to Native Hawaiiansas an elder ancestor and the physical
embodiment of deities revered in Hawaiian culture and religion. According to Kay Ala Kahaulelio,
a Hawaiian astronomer and student at University of Hawaii, he says, the sacredness of Mauna Kea
is beyond what we can comprehend in the human realm. It is so scared because it is the portal
and the closest temple where we can connect with our God. In Hawaiian genealogy, Mauna Kea
is perceived as the center of ones being. It holds burial grounds and is a place where people
scatter ashes of their loved ones. On Mauna Kea there are a total of 13 telescopes a number that I
feel is too high that there are enough telescopes on Mauna Kea. Currently, there are thirteen
working telescopes being operated by astronomers from 11 different countries, so why do

Analysis Of An Extraordinary Pair
General Groves is the biggest S.O.B I have ever worked for. (Colonel Kenneth D. Nicholas, 121).
General Groves is a man that is neutral and does not take no for an answer. Groves behavior
such as, the way he treats others, holding all authority and responsibility, as well as the way he
presents himself points to him being a successful autocratic leader. Autocratic leadership is a
style where everything is centered on the boss meaning that they make decisions without
consulting others and have little flexibility. He has exhibited little flexibility this throughout all
the readings in An Extraordinary Pair by having high expectations of those around him. He
abounds with energy and expects everyone to work as hard or even harder, than he does...
(Colonel Kenneth D. Nicholas, 121). There have been multiple accounts of Groves emotional
neutrality. Emotional Neutrality s the concept of removing emotions from decisions. At the
beginning of An Extraordinary Pair both Groves and Oppenheimer were characterized as people
who ...overcame personal differences to achieve their common purpose. (109). Groves himself
has addressed his neutrality by stating My emotional graph is a straight line... (General Groves,
Robert DeVore 119). This idea of having a lack of emotion has allowed Groves to not be
surprised nor elated by the continued success of the project. The general opinion about Groves is
that people saw him as a highly intelligent individual as well as someone who would not go

All my life, I have lived in a safe place in Rogers Park. I know way too many places in Rogers

innocent people deal with living there. I want to change this. If I had the power to adjust three
things in Rogers Park, I would choose the most important things that would come to my mind.

I decided this would be a good adjustment for our area because lately there have been too many
police brutality cases. Honestly, this scares me very much, because many innocent people have
been hurt, or like many cases, died. I would want this because then we would be able to trust these
people who are supposed to be protecting us, not hurting and damaging us. Many stories of police
brutality are mainly focused on racism. Racist policemen are the last thing that we want.
The last adjustment I would want to make for Rogers Park would be to give schools more funds.
I think that this is important because many schools do not have enough funds to create important,
fun programs. They might be able to help pay for some students whose families won t be able to
pay for field trips or for team uniforms. This can help make upgrades to the school building. For
example, some schools might have to make adjustments for the driveway or classroom. Many
schools might need more funds to hire more teachers for students who might needs special
observation and a different teaching method.

Manliness In Things Fall Apart
Use This One Weird Trick To Make Manliness Your Harmarta!!?!!!!
Can someone s greatest strength also be their greatest weakness? It can be, it may seem paradoxical
but it is entirely possible if the characteristic brings them the most good and the most bad
throughout the course of their life. Okonkwo s greatest strength was his manliness because it made
him a very successful man in Umuofia. However, his manliness was also his greatest weakness
because it prevented him from being close to his family and it caused him to fight the changes his
clan was going through, which caused his death.
Manliness is one of the most important values in Umuofia. When I say manliness I mean the
Umuofian interpretation of manliness. Which is a mixture of strength, determination, and lack of
sentimentality. Okonkwo exemplifies all of these traits and because of this he becomes an
important and respected man in his village: Okonkwo was well known throughout the nine villages
and even beyond. His fame rested on solid personal achievements (3). His determination and
strength led to great successes such as beating the cat at wrestling and being an excellent ... Show

of the new religion, Cchristianity: Okonkwo was deeply grieved. And it was not just personal
grief. He mourned for the clan, which he saw breaking up and falling apart, and he mourned for
the warlike men of Umuofia, who has unaccountably become soft like women (183). The people
of his village are changing, they are no longer the warlike men that they once were. He sees how
his clan is changing and when he realizes that he can not stop the change, he takes his own life.
He cannot not and will not live in a world so different than the one he used to. In the end
Okonkwo s manliness is the reason he dies, making it a very fatal flaw

The Primate Family Tree By Ian Redmond
Use of Metaphor in The Primate Family Tree
Although some may think of metaphor as ornamental and inapplicable for use in subjects other than
English literature, metaphors are necessary for communication in all disciplines. The use of
metaphor is crucial in the field of education because one cannot understand completely new ideas
without making a connection to previously known information (Oshlag and Petrie). Textbooks
readily employ metaphor to convey new information to students. Pages 28 29 of The Primate
Family Tree by Ian Redmond illustrates the evolution of primates through a diagram of a tree and
describes how the theory of evolution has changed since the nineteenth century. The Primate Family
Tree willfully utilizes metaphors regarding abstract complex systems and the Great Chain of Being
to explain scientific concepts to an audience that is uneducated in complex zoological and
evolutionary processes. Two main metaphor systems categorize many metaphorical expressions: the
Great Chain of Being system and the Event Structure system (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain
system is based on a vertical scale of complexity, or being, and accounts for how one conceptually
analyzes metaphors that compare two things or nouns (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain metaphor
is prevalent in English literature to describe both comparisons and differences between nouns. One
can better interpret a complex thing, such as a human, by making comparisons between the human
and another noun that

This essay will look at all the factors and then ascertain the effect each had on the outcome of the
Crimean war. To make this easier I have categorised the factors in to leadership and organisation,
battlefield tactics, strategy and technology.
The allied leadership in the Crimean war was weak and held surprisingly little commanding
power over many aspects of the war. Lord Raglan, an old, inexperienced and cautious man, was
the commander of the British troops. He had only acquired the position on grounds of seniority
and was not the strongest of commanders. Added to the fact that Raglan was a fairly weak

Due to the weakness of the leadership I would put it fairly low on the list of factors which
contributed to the eventual allied victory.
The allied battlefield tactics employed in the Crimean war were, surprisingly effective and
appropriate, given the weakness of the leadership. The British infantrymen advanced in two
deep lines, thus maximising the firepower of the new Enfield rifle which they were armed with.
These tactics worked very well against the Russian infantry who had not changed there
battlefield tactics for many years, they were still relying on the force of numbers in a dense,
Napoleonic, column style attack to overwhelm their opponents. The British infantry tactics used
the increased range and rate of fire of the new rifles to cut down the leading ranks of the Russian
columns long before they could engage them hand to hand. This demoralised and weakened the
Russians before they even got close to the enemy. At the battle of Alma the British were
outnumbered and in a state of disarray, but on Kourgane Hill they used these tactics to great
effect. Struggling up the hill they were faced by a densely packed mass of Russian infantry, the
British troops stopped and opened fire on their opponents, line after line of soldiers firing off a
volley of aimed shots which devastated the Russians forcing them to fall back.

The reason is, in TPDS one has to target the beneficiaries to find out who deserves BPL category and who deserves APL category and it is in the process of targeting where the biasness and corruption starts. But when the distribution system becomes universal means everyone is eligible corruption declines because it reduces the power of authorities to do corruption through colluding and divergence and leakage of foodgrains also decline manifold. The night I got into my first accident was the night I learned a really valuable lesson. Which is not to speed. It was 9:45pm, rainy night, on December 15, It was getting close to the end of my 12 hour shift, at Romoland Market. It was a busy and long day. Customers kept on coming in and out consistently. The lines was backed up all the way by the coolers. No time to take a 15 minute break. Finally, closing time was around the corner, and I was eager to get home to my bed. Excited to go home, I jumped into my 1996 Kia Sephia. I got to the 74 East Highway, which was a two lane freeway. Everything was going well as usual. Cars were passing me by at 60 miles per hour. Then, I felt something strange that was coming from the steeringwheel. At the time, I just thought it was normal for a beat up car to swerve. It felt like an alignment job was needed really soon. Brakes were also poor. I had to stomp on the brakes all the way down in order for the car to stop normally. So me being me, I ignored the issue and continued on my 45 minute drive home, which was in Loma Linda. Traffic was slowing down, that s when my body started to feel weak, and my eyelids was so heavy, I was trying my best to keep them opened, from how tired I was. I was struggling to keep them up. Minutes went by, and I decided to speedup an extra 10 miles per ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout time, these stories develop themes and ideas that allow readers to discover their purpose. These versions let the audience envision the story from a newer perspective. Modified versions reveal the underlying cause of the storyline and its characters. It is clear that The Little Glass Slipper published by Charles Perraultin 1697 and Cinderellapublished by Brothers Grimmin 1812, display the overall modification of the main idea. Within both tales these themes can be represented through the change in time, the overall plot and character development. The newer purpose of modified stories is demonstrated in Cinderella . The fairytale originated from the story, The Little Glass Slipper, which was written by Charles Perrault. The original tale was reformed through the Brothers Grimm version, otherwise known as Cinderella . When analyzing the tales, the reader notices that each story has its own moral, ending and plot. Both the 1697 and the 1812 versions results in a new ending .The original tale concludes with kindness overruling beauty. The second version concludes with the stepsisters being punished for their actions. The moral of Perrault s version describes Cinderella s kindness to overrule the cruelness of society. The newer versions such as the Brothers Grimm tale display a differing moral, which is that an individual s misbehavior will be punished. These endings allow readers to ... When many people hear human development, they tend to think about infancy or adolescent years when kids go through puberty, but the most amazing developmental processes take place in the prenatal stage. The amount of growth and change that occurs during the nine month gestational period is almost incomprehensible. Prenatal development is broken down into three stages, the Germinal stage, the Embryonic Stage, and the Fetal stage. This paper will mainly focus on the embryonic stage because there is a vast amount of crucial development that happens during this period. The embryonic stage is also exciting because it is during this stage that the mass of cells that are supposed to be a human, starts to actually resemble a baby. The embryonic stage begins two weeks after conception, after implantation has taken place, and lasts until week eight. During this time, some body structure begins to appear and by week eight, the embryo has all basic organs and body parts. They are all very fragile and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capital Gains Tax in Nigeria Term Paper written by Onipede Ibidunni Seun on Capital Gains Tax in Nigeria Introduction Discussing capital gain tax without first presenting a general overview of the entire concept of taxation will be tantamount to putting a cart before a horse. It is therefore very important that justice be done by explaining taxation and various types of taxes. Taxation: A General overview Tax and taxation has been variously defined by different authors. • 13. Cause And Effects Of Prohibition What would happen if one were to prohibit all alcohol production and consumption? Well, it happened before, from the Prohibition movement. Prohibition dates back to the early days of America, when it was still a colony. However, due to it being a mostly orthodox movement, it had not gained much traction. Until, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Prohibitions popularity surged; most notably, in 1873 when a group of nuns and their followers sang and prayed in front of a drugstore in Hillsboro, Ohio (Hill 10). This influx of support led to the passing of the 18th Amendment, the only Amendment to ever be repealed. Whether the boost in popularity is due mostly to the increasing amount of Christians, crime dramas, or immigration may never be known. Yet, the causes and laws of Prohibition did play a significant role in the 1920s because they showed the influence of lobby groups socially and federally, taught cautionary lessons about American law and policy, and it greatly influenced our relations with other countries, specifically Canada. Firstly, Prohibition prominently displayed the power and influence of a lobby group in social and government spheres. For example, the Women s War can be attributed to the closing of over 25,000 drinking establishments (Hill 12). This shows the major effects that the ASL, Anti Saloon League, had on the social perceptions on drinking; the establishments only closed because they were either visited by large mobs of people or were suspecting they ... Eutrophication is caused by excessive amounts of nutrients. Excessive nutrients in the bay have negative effects on the bay s ecosystem. The extra nutrients make the environment unbalanced. The extra nutrients cause a chain reaction that eventually kills most of the organisms in that area. This is what is known as a dead zone. What is your personal interest in the topic? Details are presented on the problems brought to the bay by agriculture, and development. The language is easy to understand and the scientific and environmental message is conveyed in a way that can be followed. Summary of source The importance of the Chesapeake Bay is introduced. The bay is home to a large amount of seafood businesses, and many people fish the bay and its tributaries for sport. Grass beds are essential to many of the organisms living in this ecosystem, but are being destroyed by pollution. Agriculture involves more than a fourth of the bay s watershed. This makes agricultural runoff a big focus. Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus causes eutrophication. These nutrients come from pesticides and sewage also. A goal was set in 1985 to cut back the percent of nutrients being put into the bay by these two sources. It is thought that redirecting the flow of soil with nutrients in them will reduce the runoff, but if the nutrients seep into groundwater they still get into the Chesapeake Bay. Farmers have ways to help reduce these nutrient levels, but it is not the cheapest way to farm, so not all farmers are doing their part to save the bay. Another contributor of runoff land development. Runoff can occur from exposed land being prepared to be developed, or because of what has been used to replace what used to naturally be. ... Many marine species are sensitive to changes in ocean. The effects of acidification on individual species will have ripple effects throughout the ecosystem. These food web interactions are difficult to predict, and may play out in unexpected ways. Acidification s potential effects on marine ecosystems are an economic concern as well. • 32. Rogers Park Adjustment Essay All my life, I have lived in a safe place in Rogers Park. I know way too many places in Rogers Park that are definitely not safe for anyone, especially the risky places that many younger children live by. Many times I have passed by a dangerous area of Rogers Park and have wondered how the innocent people deal with living there. I want to change this. If I had the power to adjust three things in Rogers Park, I would choose the most important things that would come to my mind. One thing I would choose to make better in Rogers Park would be to make it a sanctuary for immigrants. I want to start with Rogers Park, because I know that not every place will ever be a sanctuary, also, I think that would be the best adjustment in this community. I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I decided this would be a good adjustment for our area because lately there have been too many police brutality cases. Honestly, this scares me very much, because many innocent people have been hurt, or like many cases, died. I would want this because then we would be able to trust these people who are supposed to be protecting us, not hurting and damaging us. Many stories of police brutality are mainly focused on racism. Racist policemen are the last thing that we want. The last adjustment I would want to make for Rogers Park would be to give schools more funds. I think that this is important because many schools do not have enough funds to create important, fun programs. They might be able to help pay for some students whose families won t be able to pay for field trips or for team uniforms. This can help make upgrades to the school building. For example, some schools might have to make adjustments for the driveway or classroom. Many schools might need more funds to hire more teachers for students who might needs special observation and a different teaching method. • 33. Manliness In Things Fall Apart Use This One Weird Trick To Make Manliness Your Harmarta!!?!!!! Can someone s greatest strength also be their greatest weakness? It can be, it may seem paradoxical but it is entirely possible if the characteristic brings them the most good and the most bad throughout the course of their life. Okonkwo s greatest strength was his manliness because it made him a very successful man in Umuofia. However, his manliness was also his greatest weakness because it prevented him from being close to his family and it caused him to fight the changes his clan was going through, which caused his death. Manliness is one of the most important values in Umuofia. When I say manliness I mean the Umuofian interpretation of manliness. Which is a mixture of strength, determination, and lack of sentimentality. Okonkwo exemplifies all of these traits and because of this he becomes an important and respected man in his village: Okonkwo was well known throughout the nine villages and even beyond. His fame rested on solid personal achievements (3). His determination and strength led to great successes such as beating the cat at wrestling and being an excellent ... The people of his village are changing, they are no longer the warlike men that they once were. He sees how his clan is changing and when he realizes that he can not stop the change, he takes his own life. He cannot not and will not live in a world so different than the one he used to. • 36. The Primate Family Tree By Ian Redmond Use of Metaphor in The Primate Family Tree Although some may think of metaphor as ornamental and inapplicable for use in subjects other than English literature, metaphors are necessary for communication in all disciplines. The use of metaphor is crucial in the field of education because one cannot understand completely new ideas without making a connection to previously known information (Oshlag and Petrie). Textbooks readily employ metaphor to convey new information to students. Pages 28 29 of The Primate Family Tree by Ian Redmond illustrates the evolution of primates through a diagram of a tree and describes how the theory of evolution has changed since the nineteenth century. The Primate Family Tree willfully utilizes metaphors regarding abstract complex systems and the Great Chain of Being to explain scientific concepts to an audience that is uneducated in complex zoological and evolutionary processes. Two main metaphor systems categorize many metaphorical expressions: the Great Chain of Being system and the Event Structure system (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain system is based on a vertical scale of complexity, or being, and accounts for how one conceptually analyzes metaphors that compare two things or nouns (Kovecses 151). The Great Chain metaphor is prevalent in English literature to describe both comparisons and differences between nouns. One can better interpret a complex thing, such as a human, by making comparisons between the human and another noun that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Importance of Technology and Other Factors in the... This essay will look at all the factors and then ascertain the effect each had on the outcome of the Crimean war. To make this easier I have categorised the factors in to leadership and organisation, battlefield tactics, strategy and technology. The allied leadership in the Crimean war was weak and held surprisingly little commanding power over many aspects of the war. Lord Raglan, an old, inexperienced and cautious man, was the commander of the British troops. He had only acquired the position on grounds of seniority and was not the strongest of commanders. Added to the fact that Raglan was a fairly weak commander was the astonishingly low level of control he had over the war effort as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the weakness of the leadership I would put it fairly low on the list of factors which contributed to the eventual allied victory. The allied battlefield tactics employed in the Crimean war were, surprisingly effective and appropriate, given the weakness of the leadership. The British infantrymen advanced in two deep lines, thus maximising the firepower of the new Enfield rifle which they were armed with. These tactics worked very well against the Russian infantry who had not changed there battlefield tactics for many years, they were still relying on the force of numbers in a dense, Napoleonic, column style attack to overwhelm their opponents. The British infantry tactics used the increased range and rate of fire of the new rifles to cut down the leading ranks of the Russian columns long before they could engage them hand to hand. This demoralised and weakened the Russians before they even got close to the enemy. At the battle of Alma the British were outnumbered and in a state of disarray, but on Kourgane Hill they used these tactics to great effect. Struggling up the hill they were faced by a densely packed mass of Russian infantry, the British troops stopped and opened fire on their opponents, line after line of soldiers firing off a volley of aimed shots which devastated the Russians forcing them to fall back. The nature and functions of public heritage facilities as part of Australia s National Estate are first explained. Next, because of their nature and functions, it is shown why public heritage facilities are public goods. The economic theory of public goods is used to justify why some goods should be provided by governments and funded from taxation and others on a commercial basis by business firms. The theory is based on the existence of certain types of externalities in markets. Whether public heritage facilities are assets or liabilities and a part of the government s financial position is assessed against the SAC4 (1992) concepts of assets and liabilities. It is shown that they do not satisfy the concepts because of their public goods nature. The proposal is then advanced that public heritage facilities should be regarded as assets of the nation which are managed by government as a trustee for the benefit of society; and that, as trust assets, they should be accounted for separately from administrative assets of government. Finally, the types of information required for their good management is explained and it is shown that full accrual accounting information designed for commercial firms is not appropriate for the management of public heritage facilities.
