A Brief Note On Business Careers By Brenda Vazquez
ANALYSIS OF BUSINESS CAREERS
Reported Business Careers by Brenda Vazquez
Work Environment and Duties: Financial Manager
Financial Managers are responsible for the financial wellbeing of an organization. The duties of
financial managers range from preparing financial statements to helping management make financial
decisions to steer the company in the right direction. Financial managers prepare financial
statements, business activity reports, and forecasts. Additionally financial managers must monitor
details to ensure legal requirements are being met, supervise employees who do financial reports
and budgets, review financial reports to reduce costs, analyze market trends to maximize profits and
find expansion opportunities. As well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A typical week in the life of a financial manager involves working full time in which one in three
financial managers work more than 40 hours per week. These individuals must be accustomed to
working in many industries, including but not limited to, banks and insurance companies (The
Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, n.p.). In order to be a financial manager an individual must be
willing to go above and beyond in order to secure themselves a job since there are more applicants
than there are job openings.
Education and Prerequisites: Financial Manager
As jobs are scarce in the business world candidates must show that they are capable and proficient in
their craft as opposed to other candidates. Although, the minimum educational requirement is a
Bachelor s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, and Business Administration, those who
wish to secure a job are encouraged to pursue their Master s degree in Business Administration,
Finance, and Economics. Along with a Bachelor s degree, five years of experience is required and
those who wish to receive certification may do so in two different ways even though certification is
not required. The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute confers the Chartered Financial
Analyst certification to investment professionals who have a Bachelor s degree along with four
years of work

such metrics as revenues, profits, and market value. (2011) Exxon Mobile has been declared the
number one fortune five hundred company in the world in 2008. In 2007 Exxon Mobile was

The difference that Exxon Mobile is making is huge in the business world. Companies all over
the world will study and research Exxon Mobile because of how well they are doing each year
as an organization. Another difference that this company is making in the world is that it
provides gas to consumers and other products. Allowing consumers to use their business to fill
their tanks of with gas is making a difference because people respect and need Exxon Mobile in
many ways. Therefore according to the four business components we can see that Exxon Mobile
is perfecting at least two of these components already. The third business component states that
your organization should allow you to be yourself. Exxon Mobile produces quality employees
and strives for them to act and be their best. This company allows employees to be themselves
and constantly grow within the business. They want and hope that the employees they hire follow
all of the guidelines to how they run their business but they also want the employees to bring
creativity to work with them. Challenges and new ideas are very important to Exxon Mobile,
employees have the opportunity be promoted by overcoming things such as these challenges and
also if they can bring new ideas and perspectives to this business. The fourth component of
business focuses on having a higher power to make sure you have help. An example of this would

Take Away, By Jhumpa Lahiri And Pot Roast By Mark Strand
Around the world food is an international experience. It does not matter what a person s race is or
where they originated from, the culture of food is what brings people together. The diversity of
food in one s meal often brings back different memories from people s past. In the poem, Pot Roast,
by Mark Strand and the short story, Indian Takeout, by Jhumpa Lahiri both discuss about their
experience with foodand present how food is significant to their culture.
Although Lahiri s and Strand s stories might seem different because of their style of writing they
are actually similar due to their fascinating experience, appropriate use of diction, and significant
value of food.

According to Alfred Rosa, concrete diction refers to words that stimulate some kind of sensory
response in the reader (Rosa 55). The description of her father sipping on mangoes allowed the
reader to feel the sensation of tasting the oozing juice of the fruit. In addition to that, her
audience can also sense the taste of the sweet, sticky oranges Lahiri s mother ate. Lahiri used
specific diction when describing the yogurt cups and her sister s Moghlai paraths. The reader
can visualize what the author saw by describing the red clay yogurt cups and the flat bread
folded, omelet style Moghlai paraths. Lahiri s choice of words gave an amusing effect on her
readers to participate in what she sensed and felt in her story. In the poem, Pot Roast, the speaker
described his memory of his mother s pot roast through simplistic, yet descriptive, poetic versus.
Strand also provided his readers concrete and specific diction in his poem. According to Strand to
inhale the steam that rises from my plate...I remember the gravy, its odor of garlic and celery, and
sopping it up with pieces of bread (Strand 269). The speaker presented the reader a visual of the
hot steam rising from the meal. He also provided supplies his readers with the sensation he felt
when inhaling the aroma of the ingredients used in the pot roast. Although Strand s poem is quite
shorter than Lahiri s short story,

Vladimir Nabokov s Destroyed Innocence
Destroyed Innocence
Love and obsession are often misinterpreted to be the same thing, yet one can cause people to
flourish, while another destroys the people involved. Humbert Humbert becomes obsessed with the
childlike innocence in young girls and pursues a 12 year old girl, Lolita. Humbert and Lolita
develop a sexual relationship that inevitably takes away her innocence more each time that they
are together. Vladimir Nabokov uses irony and diction in Lolita to show how Humbert is obsessed
with Lolita s childlike innocence, and how his obsession leads to the destruction of the childhood
that he is so desperately trying to obtain. Humbert so desperately attempts to regain a childhood he
lost through Lolita, ironically his attempts put him farther away from his goal as he destroys ...

He uses Lolita s childlike innocence in an attempt to regain some childhood that he never had,
yet him trying to to gain this childhood from Lolita only destroys the childhood that she has, and
forces her to grow up as he once did. Humbert s perverse desires to claim Lolita s childhood
destroy any chance that he has to gain one and Lolita s childhood. When Humbert goes after
Lolita he wants to do everything with her remaining oblivious to his acts. yet that is almost
impossible, and the more he pursued, the more she reciprocated his advances. Humbert will
never be satisfied in his relationship for Lolita because she can not stay the innocent girl that he
has created in his head. Every time Humbert comes into contact with her, the more she is forced
to grow out of her innocence and the less appealing she becomes to Humbert. However Humbert
refuses to accept that the Lolita he has concocted is not real. He goes after Lolita with an
obsessive nature. His need to recreate his past love drives him. Yet this insatiable need for a pure
innocent child is impossible for him to ever

(Recognition of Prior Learning)
The term and the assessment or evaluation criteria being used varies between governing body,
institutions and countries. There is the popularity of the need to recognise informal learning so as
to make learning accessible to everyone. To justify the need for RPL, I have discussed some of its
benefits below.
Benefits of Recognition of Prior Learning
The Learner: * It validates the worth of learning achieved by themselves * Increases self esteem
and confidence * Encourages learners to pursue education * May reduce the cost of college
education by eliminating duplication of learning * Enables progression to other programme of
study * Increases learner s perception and understanding that learning is a lifelong process
The Educational Institution: * Provides a vital service for the community, business and industry *
Financial gain through increase in student recruitment and retention * Increases in efficiency by
reducing the need for unnecessary training * Enables for more appropriate learner placement in
programmes
The Workplace and the Community: * It encourages workplace partnership with the educational
institution * It helps in recognising lifelong learning and society s need for a productive and
capable workforce.

Himalayan Art
Art was largely used to express traditions in the Himalayan region. Once upon Many Times is an
exhibition at Rubin Museum of Art representing a wide range of visual narratives and
reproductions of temple murals, which can be regarded as exceptional examples of Himalayan art
based upon Tibetan myths and legends. Furthermore, this paper will analyze the color arrangement,
composition, proportion, hierarchy and motifs of the historical narrative Shantarakshita and scenes
of his life and the Drowa Sangmo mural represented at the exhibition Once upon Many Times.

The colors used in the painting are complementary with orange, blue and green dominating over the
color pattern.
Surrounding the image of Shantarakshita, who is the central image of what is essentially a
mandala composition, are detailed scenes depicting how the eminent teacher brought the teachings
of the Buddha to Tibet and helped to establish the Himalayan nation s first Buddhist monastery. The
eye remains drawn to Shantarakshita, as the artist intends to praise Shantarakshita as the one who
firmly established Buddhism in the hearts, minds, souls, and daily lives of Tibetans. Portrayed in a
rich color palette containing saturated blues, reds, greens, and oranges, there is no remaining white
space on the canvas. The lowest portion of the composition is more cluttered than the uppermost
portion, serving a symbolic function. The artist contrasts the ordinary world of the human mind and
society with the transcendent world of enlightenment. The blue halo surrounding Shantarakshita
leads the eye up, through a lotus blossom, towards the two figures above him: Shakyamuni Buddha
to the right and Shantarakshita s own teacher to the left ( Historical Narrative: Shantarakshita ).
Although it is permanently on display in a Tibetan temple, the Drowa Sangmo Mural depicts more
of an ordinary scene than the portrait of Shantarakshita. However, it is entirely mundane in Tibetan
society. The Drowa Sangmo

Different types of Bridges Research Paper
Because of advancements in today s technology in construction field, many types of bridges are
being constructed depending on the requirement and their suitability for the situations.
A bridge is a structure providing path over an obstacle. When constructing a bridge, obstacle can be
a river, railway track or a valley and the path provided by bridge can be for a road, pedestrians, a
railway, pipelines, viaducts to carry water from rich areas to dry cities, or for commercial purpose
to host commercial buildings such as restaurants and shops. A bridge can also be laid to reduce the
distance of travel which in turn reduces the time to reach the destination.
(Vasani, 2011) Many components when assembled together form a bridge structure. Basic
components of a bridge are superstructure or Decking, Bearings, Substructure which again consists
of Piers and Abutments, Wing walls and Returns, and Foundation.
Superstructure bears the load that is being passed over the bridge and it transmits the forces caused
by the same to substructure. Load received from the decking is transferred on to the substructure by
Bearings. They also distribute the load evenly over the substructure material as it may not have
sufficient strength to bear the superstructure load directly. Piers and Abutments are the vertical
substructures which transfer the load to the earth in the foundation. Wing walls and returns are
constructed as the extension of

SA ADC that are mentioned in this paper are binary weighted DAC, unary weighted DAC and
segmented DAC. In this paper comparator is been designed for all these SA ADC architectures. The
comparator used in SA ADC plays an important role. The main purpose of the comparator is to
compare a signal with a reference signal and produce an output depending on whether the input
signal is greater or smaller than the reference signal. The structure of the comparator does not
depend on the segmentation degree (i.e. the number of unary bits), for all the binary, segmented,

The Argument For The Existence Of God
My paper scrutinizes numerous logical disputes for and alongside the presence of God. I shall
argue that there s no adequate evidence or inclusive arguments for the existence of God. It is
grounded on the views of certain great philosophers and scientists of all of mankind.
Generally speaking for myself, I would correspond to have faith that there is God . Regrettably, it
s awfully well defined that the being built up on insightful faith is no longer a suitable custom to
shadow. During the course, I expected to learn some type of proof with the intention of upholding
a course of the belief in a God implanted in me by my parents. Sadly, this wasn t the case. It could
have been fine if the ontological, theological, or cosmological argument could have related itself to
the experimental world with a God outside this world, but they are unable too. The ontological
argument failed because it was only a misleading piece of terms that couldn t prolong into actuality.
The teleological argument expressed unsupported inferences from similarities of experiential
remark and materialists supplied other possibilities that are reasonably legal. The cosmological
argument failed as well since it not once understandably argued the making of the universe. There
are many amazing individuals who ve consumed an immense sum of time in studying the Bible.
Brilliant philosophers like Plato, Paley, Socrates, Descartes, Aristotle, have made arguments
whether god truly exists. We must understand

In this paper, we aim to fill what we, as researchers and teachers in qualitative psychology, have
experienced as a current gap: the absence of a paper which adequately outlines the theory,
application, and evaluation of thematic analysis, and one which does so in a way accessible to
students and those not particularly familiar with qualitative research. 1 That is, we aim to write a
paper which will be useful as both a teaching and research tool in qualitative psychology. Therefore,
in this paper we discuss theory and method for thematic analysis, and clarify the similarities and
differences between different approaches that share features in common with a thematic approach.
Qualitative approaches are incredibly diverse, complex and nuanced (Holloway Todres, 2003), and
thematic analysis should be seen as a foundational method for qualitative analysis. It is the first
qualitative method of analysis that researchers should learn, as it provides core skills that will be
useful for conducting many other forms of qualitative analysis. Indeed, Holloway and Todres (2003:
347) identify thematizing meanings as one of a few shared generic skills across qualitative
analysis.2 For this reason, Boyatzis (1998) characterises it not as a specific method but as a tool to
use across different methods. Similarly, Ryan and Bernard (2000) locate thematic coding as a
process performed within „major‟ analytic traditions (such as grounded theory), rather than a

An Analysis of Titian s Painting Venus with a Mirror
Venus With a Mirror Introduction Venus With A Mirror was done by Italian master Titian (oil
on canvas) in 1555. Currently Venus With A Mirror is in the National Gallery of Art in the
Andrew W. Mellon Collection. The painting is 124.5 x 105.5 centimeters (49 x 41 x 9/16
inches). Titian Biography and Background The Italian master was born in 1477 in Pieve di
Cadore, Italy and died August 27, 1576, in Venice, Italy. According to the Encyclopedia of
World Biography (EWB) he was either born in 1477 or in 1488 (both dates are given).
Reportedly Titian (Tiziano Vecellio was his full name) began studying painting at the age of 9;
he and his brother initially were learning in the workshop of mosaic artist Sebastiano Zuccati, but
soon Titian had the opportunity study painting with Giovanni Ballini (EWB). Soon thereafter
Titian collaborated with Ballini s brother Giorgione; the two worked on frescoes for the German
Merchants Exchange. It is said that the work of Titian and Giorgione was so similar that it was
hard to tell them apart. The first actual commission that Titian received was to produce В¦three
large frescoes in the Confraternity of St. Anthony in Padua, Italy. Next Titian began his great
mythological works, including Flora (Florence) and Sacred and Profane Love (EWB). Those
pieces were well received and next it is said that Titian firmly established his hand as a quality
interpreter of classical mythology when he completed The Andrians, the Worship of Venus

Causes And Conpects Of Child Labour In The Caribbean
Child labour in the Caribbean
Children have an important place in our society. Investing financial resources is crucial for ensuring
children can reach their potential.
Childhood is a unique stage in our development. The quality of food, water, affection and education
that children receive can impact on their subsequent lives and their potential to become engaged
and productive citizens. This time presents a unique opportunity for governments and organisations
to level the playing field for children from poorer backgrounds through investments.
Many businesses across the Caribbean recognise this and create opportunities to benefit millions of
children across the region. Most recently, The Sandals Foundation, the non profit arm of Sandals
Resorts International, announced a new collaboration with School Specialty, Inc. for the Pack for a
Purpose program. This partnership will further assist travellers to Sandals Resorts and Beaches
Resorts, who wish to bring along much needed supplies for local schools across the Caribbean
supported by the company. The partnership comes at a crucial time following the effects Hurricane
Matthew which has caused many problems regionally.
Unfortunately, childhood can be robbed from children when they become involved in child labour.
Child labour is work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity and
that is is harmful to their development.
The ILO has defined child labour as a form of abuse and

Character Sketch Of Oedipus
Sophocles Oedipus is a standout amongst the most surely understood grievous legends ever. His
bizarre destiny drives him to terrible destruction that leaves both the peruser and the gathering of
people feeling candidly influenced. As indicated by the meaning of the Greek thinker, Aristotle,
Oedipus troublesome story qualifies him as a sad legend. Oedipusis the epitome of Aristotles
portrayal of a shocking saint through his capacity to safeguard his excellence and intelligence, in
spite of his defects and scrape. The Aristotelian perspective of an unfortunate saint does not uncover
the absence of ethical quality or even the fiendishness of the hero, in view of a blunder of judgment.

The Fourteenth Amendment And The National Government Essay
The tenth amendment states that any power not granted to the National US government is given to
the states. The tenth amendment deals with three different types of power. The three separate
powers are delegated powers, reserved powers, and prohibited powers. Delegated powers are the
powers assigned to the Federal government. An example would be the power to regulate commerce.
The reserved powers are the powers that are granted to the states. An example would be to regulate
education. The prohibited powers are the powers that are denied to the national or state government
by the Constitution. An example would be that the states cannot declare war or the national
government cannot make any law that respects a particular religion. The only question that is posed
by the tenth amendment is whether a claimed federal power is justified. The tenth amendment
helps establish federalism in the Unites States. Federalism is a type of government in which the
national government and the state s share sovereignty. The 10th amendment verifies that not all
power is delegated to the national government or the states. The national government has all power
vested to it from the enumerated powers of the Constitution, but the states have all other powers not
already given to the national government. Generally, the national government has the powers
concerning the well being of all the states, while the states have the powers to solve problems that
are more close to home. For example, one of the

Listening to classical music stimulates the creative pathways in the human brain. Classical music
has been found to reduce tension and enhance brain power and specific types of intelligence
such as verbal ability and spatial temporal reasoning. Because of this, Classical music has been
found to be extremely beneficial for pregnant women. Studies have shown that babies listening
to classical music in the womb could benefit the baby by raising their intelligence and mental
development. Not only is classical music a calming method for both mother and child, the music
can help to prepare an unborn infant s ears and brain for the outside world. Mothers can play the
classical music for their baby by placing earphones around her belly. This theory of letting babies
listen to the classical music by classical music genius Mozart in the womb became known as the
The Mozart Theory. During the 1990s, several research papers and popular books wrote about The
Mozart Theory, which came to be called the Mozart Effect: an observed temporary, small elevation
of scores on certain tests as a result of listening to Mozart s music. The Mozart effect has been the
subject of much research in recent years, after it was found that listening to Mozart s music may
increase specific types of intelligence. The approach has been popularized in a book by Don
Campbell, and is based on an experiment suggesting that listening to Mozart temporarily

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Plate Fin Heat Exchanger
b) Counter Flow
In a counter flow heat exchanger the two fluids flow parallel to each other but in opposite
directions. The counter flow heat exchanger provides the most thermally effective arrangement for
recovery of heat or cold from process streams. A counter flow arrangement is thermodynamically
superior to any other flow arrangement. It is the most efficient flow arrangement, producing the
highest temperature change in each fluid compared to any other two fluid arrangement for a given
overall thermal conductance (UA), fluid flow rates and fluid inlet temperatures. Cryogenic
refrigeration and liquefaction equipment use this geometry almost exclusively. But this type of heat
exchangers demands proper design because of the complex geometry ... Show more content on

1.6 Applications The plate fin heat exchanger is suitable for use over a wide range of temperatures
and pressures for gas gas, gas liquid and multi phase duties. They are used in a variety of
applications. They are mainly employed in the field of cryogenics for cryogenic separation and
liquefaction of air, natural gas processing and liquefaction, production of petrochemicals and large
refrigeration systems. The exchangers that are used for cryogenic air separation and LPG
fractionation are the largest and most complex units of the plate fin type and a single unit could be
of several meters in length. Brazed aluminum plate fin exchangers are widely used in the aerospace
industries because of their low weight to volume ratio and compactness. They are being used
mainly in environment control system of the aircraft, avionics and hydraulic oil cooling and fuel
heating. Making heat exchangers as compact as possible has been an everlasting demand in
automobile and air conditioning industries as both are space conscious. In the automobile sector
they are used for making the radiators. The other miscellaneous applications

Mr Frank Gilbreth Essay
Mr. Frank Gilbreth, Sr. once said, There is no waste in the world that equals the waste from
needless, ill directed, and ineffective motions. As an efficiency expert, he often expected much from
his children. Many critics feel that it is unfair for parents to require so much from their children as
the Gilbreths did, but the Gilbreth dozen turned out to be exceptionally successful.
All the Gilbreth children graduated from college, but what did they do next? Anne married, raised
3 children, and was active in various community organizations. Unfortunately, Mary died at the
age of five from diphtheria. Ernestine married, raised two children, became a retail buyer, an

Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Essay
The Powerful Wife of Bath
In Geoffrey Chacer s The Canterbury Tales we are introduced to 29
people who are going on a pilgrimage to St. Thomas a Becket in Canterbury.
Each person is represented to fit a unique type of behavior as shown by
people during the medieval ages. My attention was drawn to the Wife of
Bath through which Chaucer notes the gender inequalities. Predominantly,
women could either choose to marry and become a childbearing wife or go
into a religious order. Women were seen as property. Women during this
period of time, had limited choices when it came to societal roles. The
Wife of Bath exonerates the accepted roles of society, reflecting women s

She is confident about her knowledge of love, virginity and marriage (after

women s oppression, so did the Wife of Bath. She states that double

addressed and dispels the justification for multiple marriages through
biblical figures and stories.

The Wife of Bath relied on the bible to justify her unaccepted views, but
when the bible did not favor her views she simply disregarded it.
The Wife of Bath is a widow and therefore it is assumed that she
would dress rather conservatively. This is not the case for the Wife of
Bath. Her clothing is quite flamboyant with scarlet red leggings, soft new
shoes, broad hat, and spurs on her feet. She is obviously not dressed in a
typical manner or style of other women in her time (Hallissy 42).

George Orwell s Politics And The English Language
In his essay Politics and the English Language, George Orwell argues that the English language
becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our
language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts. Orwell stresses the need to fight against
lazy and vague language. To make his argument, Orwell separates proper use of language
devices. He uses a simile that enhances the old fashioned trends with the modern age trends. The
abuse of language is a sentimental archaism, like preferring candles to electric light or hansom
cabs to aeroplanes. The English language can be old fashioned and trendy at the same time. A
certain group of people may use a word simply because someone of higher status made it sound
elegant. Trends are followed by bad habits. Therefore, a trend may cause a domino effect. Orwell
argues that in modern language,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Innate And Adaptive Immune System
Although the innate and adaptive immune systems both function to protect against invading
organisms, they differ in a number of ways. The adaptive immune system requires some time to
react to an invading organism, whereas the innate immune system includes defenses that, for the
most part, are constitutively present and ready to be mobilized upon infection. Second, the adaptive
immune systemis antigen specific and reacts only with the organism that induced the response. In
contrast, the innate system is not antigen specific and reacts equally well to a variety of organisms.
Finally, the adaptive immune systemdemonstrates immunological memory. It remembers that it has
encountered an invading organism and reacts more rapidly on subsequent

Suicide Among Vietnam Veterans
The military is one of the most culturally diverse employers in the world, therefore it is hard to
identify a specific target population at a higher risk of suicide. However, from the research
conducted by Kemp and Bossarte (2012) the data shows white male veterans between the ages of
50 and 79 were more likely to commit suicide than any other race, gender or age group.
Additionally, the periods in which the veteran served also plays a huge role in veteran suicide,
where the data shows Vietnamveterans are significantly at a higher risk for suicide (Kemp
Bossarte, 2012). It must be said, there is research which shows there is no statistically significant
increases in suicide mortality among Vietnam veterans when compared to other war era veterans
(Bossarte, Claassen, Knox, 2010). The research conducted by David Lester (2005) shows there
are several reasons for this. First, America engaged in the Vietnam War without the approval, of
the United Nation (Lester, 2005), causing a nation to become divided. The war was meet with mix

Great Britain had the perfect conditions to spearhead the first true revolution that had an effect in

formidable population size, bountiful coal and iron deposits, and the demand of such a revolution,
to gain a head start over the rest of the world. The confluence of such factors culminated in a perfect

The long term outcomes of the Industrial Revolution affected not just the workers, but people of
all demographics also. The clustering of factories in cities, such as London and Manchester, led
to hyper urbanization of cities in Britain (Cleary). Urbanization continued unabated as London
increased its population size by 3 million people in a span of 40 years, and Manchester exploded
to have a population of 180000 in 1831 after its Population was just 22000 in 1771 (Hobsawm
159). Crowded streets, inadequate housing, and pollution characterized what the norm was for
cities and the citizens of the cities (Hobsawm 44). Hyper urbanization led to poor sanitation and
decreased life expectancy during the 19th century as diseases, such as consumption, typhus, and
cholera, deprived the poor workers of their health (Cleary). More than 60000 lives were claimed
by consumption alone in each decade of 19th century, and with the poor wages that workers
received and the conditions that they worked and lived under did not alleviate the spread of
diseases and deaths at all (Cleary). As a result, average lifespan of workers did not go past 40s,
with the low end of the averages in cities being 26 in Liverpool (Haley). However, the poor sanitary
conditions, and the Industrial Revolution brought the worker s rights, women s rights, and children
s rights into the light. Members of the parliament from 1830s started to

The Weight Restriction For Muscle Mass During Resistance...
Introduction Over the last few years, there has been an increasing weight lifting culture. Adepts of
the weight lifting community have developed all sorts of theories and training regimens in order to
optimise the gains in muscle mass during resistance training. Unfortunately, many methods
developed by these adepts have not yet been proved to be efficient by any scientific studies.
Luckily, some researchers have studied the responses of muscle proteinmetabolismto nutrition and
exercise and have enlightened us with knowledge regarding the function and importance of certain
nutrients in protein synthesis (K. Tipton Wolfe, 2001)
When performing resistance training over a period of time, muscular mass can increase
(hypertrophy) in response to the specific stimulus induced on the muscle fibers during the exercise.
In order for the skeletal muscle to grow, net protein synthesis must occur (protein synthesis must
exceed protein breakdown). Net protein synthesis is non achievable if resistance training is
performed alone without the intake of certain dietary nutrients (K. Tipton Wolfe, 2001). Recent
evidence has shown that an increase in circulating amino acids induced by the consumption of
certain nutrients following exercise can increase the net protein balance due to stimulation of
muscle protein synthesis (Tang et al., 2007). Amino acids are the basic unit of protein structure and
peptide bonds link amino acids in chains that take on diverse forms and chemical

Have you hugged a veteran today? What about yesterday? most likely the answer is no. Veterans
are important to our nations history and future, but we are not very good at recognizing this and

Investment Team Project
YMJ Investment Final Project
Throughout the semester we really had to watch the markets in order to obtain a successful
portfolio. The way we approached this task was through constant watching of the securities
market to find out current trends as well as picking up stocks we thought were undervalued at
that time. The latter, of course, applies to our managed portfolio, where we were able to select
stocks we deemed were good investments. We observed that this specific portfolio gave us more
stable returns, which we attributed to the lower betas of these stocks. One can also conclude that
the worst performers of the same portfolio were due the same cause. Based on the returns of our
managed portfolio, one can conclude that we chose to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

CVS Caremark Corp: Clearly, we got this one right and it was our best investment. We thought this
was a safe stock to purchase because it was a top 20 company in the 2013 Fortune 500 list as well
as operating in an industry that has been in great demand by the American population as it is
aging rapidly. Another conclusion that we arrived while discussing the possible purchases was
that the company operates only in the US, so it had a great opportunity to seize the market of
overweight Americans who suffer from several diseases related to this problem, and have to buy
one or several medications at times.
Colgate Palmolive Co: This was another good investment in our opinion. The company had a low
beta at the time of the purchase and has been having a steady growth lately, which we thought
would be good component for our portfolio to hedge against stocks that held greater risk. Although
the company has been known to harm the environment by consuming high levels of palm oil, we
believed that this fact would not interfere with the growth potential of the company as the numbers
indicated that it was a reliable investment.

The Impact of the Industrial Revolution on Europe Essay...
The Industrial Revolution hit Europe and along with it came a great deal of change. Not only did
this industrial revolution affect standards of living in cities, it also affected greatly the nature and
quality of labor. The Industrial Revolution had an impact of the greatest magnitude on Europe
and has shaped the work style and nature of labor that Europeans know today. Although it may
seem like a revolution of this sort would have great benefits for those who lived through it,
evidence seems to show otherwise. For many it was difficult to adapt to this new world of
industrial labor and for others it was a bit easier to adjust.
Preindustrial labor, or old labor, was not easy. Days were long and pay was never sufficient enough

Preindustrial labor often gave a strong sense of individualism, independence, and satisfaction. To
many the old system of labor seemed luxurious compared to the new type of work the Industrial
Revolution brought.
One would think industrialization would bring better paying jobs and more employment
opportunities, but the stories of the people who lived through the Industrial Revolution say
otherwise. Workers faced long days, if not even longer days than those who worked in
preindustrial times. Even though work hours were somewhat the same as preindustrial labor,
the way those hours were carried out differed greatly. Laborers no longer had the comfort of
working alongside and socializing with their families nor the power to control their pace of
work. Workers would now be punished and penalized for doing such things. Companies would
enforce punctuality and pace usually by correlating it with a worker s pay. The less punctual and
lazier you were, the more fines and the more pay decreases you would suffer. The nature of this
new labor emphasized more on the importance of the company rather than the individual.
Companies often had little concern when their workers suffered. If someone was incapable of
performing their duties, there was always somebody else to take their place. It was unfortunate
because many of these workers who were unable to perform well at their job often suffered from

A. R Ammons World Poem Analysis
From earthquakes to hurricanes to tsunamis nature seemingly is always at odds with humanity.
Humans relationship with the environment has become more stressed as our treatment of nature
has become worse. A.R. Ammons argues in his poem World that we live at the mercy of the world
surrounding us and therefore we should step up our efforts to preserve it. Using a metaphor
comparing earthto a tide pool, rhythm and natural imagery A.R. Ammons stresses how insignificant
humans are to the scope of the earth to emphasize the need to preserve it. Through creating a
metaphor connecting the Earth to the tide pool Ammons emphasizes the fragility of life on Earth

In the opening stanza, Ammons pictures the raw power of the natural world with the ability to
shoot / spray over the jetty boulders and we can extrapolate that ability to other forces of nature and
man made objects such as earthquakes affect son buildings. Even with the devastating destructive
capability of the environment, nature should be maintained like how dangerous animals such as
tigers. The next characteristic of nature that Ammons wants to emphasize to us the serenity of a
world so clear, sterile, encased to represent the despite the awe inspiring power that nature has the
ability to unleash, it remains an innocent defenseless to transgressions of man. The third
characteristic of Earth that Ammons choose to create an image of is the sustaining qualities. Our
lives inside on Earth are sustained by breathing plant created oxygen , quenching our thirst by
drinking this sweet rain and ending our hunger by consuming this green and therefore, Ammons
argues, the Earth is vital to our very existence. These three qualities of the earth characterize the
main faces of Earth s beauty. The existence of these characteristics gives the reader a better image
of what the earth contains and henceforth, what the world offers and what we must protect.
Ammons focus on the characteristics of nature and striking variability of landscapes to motivate

Race vs. Social Class Essay
Race vs. Social Class THESIS: Race differences in identity and social position were, and are,
more important than class differences in American society. Events in the nineteenth century made
it abundantly and irrefutably clear that race as a concept sui generis superseded social class as
the dominant mechanism of social division and stratification in North America. (Smedley 219)
For many decades people have been using race as a way to classify humans into different social
categories. Lower, Middle, and Upper classes were created to divide humans into appropriate
categories using their individual lifestyles, financial income, residence, and occupation. People
decided to ignore this classifying system and classify one another,... Show more content on

These conditions in turn lead to the way individuals perform at work. It also affects their views
of each other as well as those considered to be above or below them. So, racial discrimination
happens at the work level, as well as, the dividing of social classes. Racial discrimination
dominated over social classes creating an unfair way to divide people. In all areas of life,
Americans were persuaded that the major races black, Indian, Asian, and white could not and
should not live or work together and certainly not as equals. (Smedley 221) All other races were
homogenized, regardless of education, skills, language, religion, income, or place of origin, into
one simple category. Class separation was temporary and situational, as so many Americans were
quick to uncover. White Americans believed that anyone who succeeded in business, politics,
entertainment, or their professions automatically improved their class status and eliminated the
barriers to upper class institutions. Class barriers can be surpassed; race barriers can not. The
social class has two major approaches to the study in the scholarly literature. The first one is
ethnographic and descriptive, and the other is Marxism, which offers a range of perspectives.
Smedley describes Marxism as identifying social classes as groups standing in different
relationships to the mode of production and

A Short Note On Theodore Roosevelt Jr.
Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was born to Theodore Thee Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Mittie Bulloch on
October 27, 1858 in New York City. His father was of Dutch heritage and his mother was a
Southern belle rumored to have been a possible actress for Gone with the Wind s Scarlett O
Hara. He was known as Teedie to his family, as he did not enjoy the nickname Teddy. Theodore
spent a lot of time at home and was homeschooled due to his illnesses and asthma. Because of his
time spent at home he grew to love all things nature related, but by his teens Theodore had
developed a rigorous training routine with weightlifting and boxing. After Theodore s father
died during his second year at Harvard College, he used his grief as a channel to work harder.
After graduating magna cum laude, meaning with great distinction, he enrolled at Columbia
Law School but soon dropped out. He married Alice Hathaway Lee of Massachusetts. After
dropping out of Columbia at age 23, he was elected to the New York Assembly as a
representative from New York City he was the youngest to serve in that position. Roosevelt sped
through public service positions namely, captain of the National Guard and minority leader of
the New York Assembly. (biography.com) Roosevelt was a prolific author. He wrote 38 books,
namely; The Naval War of 1812, an autobiography, a biography of Oliver Cromwell, a history of

Analysis Of The Red Badge Of Courage By Stephen Crane
Stephen Crane is considered to be one of the most influential and talented writers of the late
1800s because of his innovative writing style, vivid sense of irony and disturbing psychological
realism. In his most popular work, The Red Badge of Courage, Crane exposes the human side of
warfare; his book also serves as a testimony to the horrors of battle on any front. Crane s works are
studied in American Literature classes all throughout the world, his ability to make his stories
believable coupled with his formation of literary realism makes crane a unique writer and shows his
contribution to the American voice. Stephen Cranewas one of America s foremost writers of realism
and has been credited with marking the beginning of modern American... Show more content on

Many individuals that read Crane s work applaud him for creating such a believable setting and
often think of him as the father of realism. One literary critic explains that Crane makes Fleming
s (the main character of RBC) contrary psychological reaction to his experience of combat both
believable and plausible (Lentz 225). Through the use of irony Crane allows the reader to
scrutinize his illusions and see the disparity that exists between one s expectations and the
events that make up one s life. Some even go as far as saying he pioneered a new brand of
literary realism (Moss 2). The best example of Crane s impact in American literature can be the
fact that his writings are studied in American literature classes in high schools, colleges, and
universities ( Stephen Crane 1). Crane s theme of warfare is best shown when Henry begins to
see the difference between his expectations of war and the realities of it; Henry explains during
his first glimpse of battle that he felt that in this crisis his laws of life were useless (Crane 11).
Henry s sense of doom in the beginning is very exaggerated and childlike when he describes
visions he saw of a thousand tounged fear (Crane 32); however, this contrasts with his later
achievement of manhood therefor displaying Crane s theme of transformation. At one point in the
book Henry states that he had feared that all of the untried men possessed great confidence... he
was now reassured (Crane 22); at this point in the novel Henry isn t as concerned with the
elimination of his cowardice as he is with justifying it. The theme of courage in Crane s book is
actually quite the opposite, instead it is cowardice or the lack of courage that is more prevalent in the

economy and overall living of ours. Thousands have lost their jobs, businesses; our daily life has
become miserable. Pakistan is currently facing upto 18 hours of electricity outage a day, is
expected to face more if not dealt with in time. The purpose of this study is to analyze the nature
of this crisis and to propose some short term as well as long term solutions to this problem. This

In particular, the production costs of electricity rise, which raises manufacturing costs. For the
consumer, the price of gasoline (petrol) and diesel for cars and other vehicles rises, leading to
reduced consumer confidence and spending, higher transportation costs and general price rising.
Energy resources have depleted! Whatever resources are available are simply too expensive to
buy or already acquired by countries which had planned and acted long time ago. Delayed
efforts in the exploration sector have not been able to find sufficient amounts of energy
resources. Nations of the world which have their own reserves are not supplying energy
resources anymore; only the old contracts made decades ago are active. Airplanes, trains, cars,
motorbikes, buses and trucks, all modes of transportation are coming to a stand still. Many
industries have closed due to insufficient power supply. Price of oil has gone above the ceiling.
At domestic level, alternate methods like solar, biogas and other methods are being tried for
mere survival. The above is a likely scenario of Pakistan and around the globe after 25 years. A
pessimistic view, but realistic enough to think about and plan for the future. But are we doing
anything about it? Lets have a look at the current energy situation of Pakistan and the world.

How Children Learn Language

1. OVERVIEW
The exact way in which millions of developing children get to the point where they can produce
and understand millions of words and make sentences out of it is the subject of a heated debate
in the psycholinguistic field. According to Saxton (2010,p.18), the study on how children learn
language can be traced back to the German biologist, Tiedermann, in 1787. However, up until the
late 1950 s, it is generally agreed that approach to child language research is at best haphazardly
organized. Research for example was often limited to a generally informal observations (for
example research done by Lukens,1894) or diary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This time, the rat only received food if it pressed the bar a certain number of times. After initial
confusion, it learned to do this also (Aitchison,2008,pp.8 9). This type of learning is called operant
conditioning by Skinner which can be translated as training by means of voluntary responses (the
word operant means a voluntary response rather than an automatic one) and Skinner suggested that
a vast majority of human learning take place via this mode, including learning of
language(,Aitchison,2008,p.9). In his book Verbal Behaviour, Skinner argued that child efforts to
speak are rewarded by parents. Each time the child produces an utterances that comes close to
sounding like an acceptable word or sentence, the parent offers a reward in the form of praise or
encouragement. As this conditioning goes on, the closer the child gets to the adult model of
utterance the more parental rewards that he/she gets. Thus, the operant conditioning relies on the
learner producing a linguistic behaviour that is progressively shaped through rewards, until the
desired behaviour is achieved (Saxton,2010,p.90). Skinner s explanation of language acquisition
soon inspired a critique and rival explanation from Noam Chomsky. Chomsky argued in some detail
that mechanisms such as stimulus, response and reinforcement which are favoured by the
behaviourists are not sufficient to explain verbal bahaviour. In this regard, Chomsky pivotal

The Bet By Anton Chekhov Analysis
The Bet , by Anton Chekhov, is an original story that is about a Banker and a Lawyer. Chekhov
uses many elements of literature to show that society s opinion on prison has different viewpoints.
Through this story Chekhov writes about two modern sides of prison, capital punishment and life
imprisonment. He writes about a Banker and a Lawyer that set a foolish bet of two million dollars
for fifteen years in solitary confinement. Anton Chekhov, shows this story through characterization
and imagery. The first literary element Chekhov uses is imagery. Chekhov uses imagery
powerfully to express particular point within the story. In the twenty ninth paragraph, the
Banker walks in on the Lawyer and notices, He was a skeleton with the skin drawn tight over his
bones, with long curls like a woman s and a shaggy beard. His face was yellow with an earthy
tint in it, his cheeks were hollow, his back long and narrow, and the hand on which his shaggy
head was propped was so thin and delicate that it was dreadful to look at it. His hair was already
streaked with silver, and seeing his emaciated, aged looking face, no one would have believed that
he was only forty. (Chekhov). Chekhov uses breathtaking imagery to show the reader that this aged,
worn out, forty year old man, was once the young lawyer. This description helps provide the
reader with a strong image of how the weary young man has changed and evolved into a pitiful
and demented man since he has been in solitary confinement. Once the Lawyer is found lying
asleep the Banker notices a note, in this note the Lawyer states, I have heard the singing of the
sirens, and the strains of the shepherds pipes; I have touched the wings of comely devils who
flew down to converse with me of God... In your books I have flung myself into the bottomless
pit, performed miracles, slain, burned towns, preached new religions, conquered whole kingdoms.
(Chekhov). The Lawyer writes this imagery in his letter to explain why he has chosen to leave the
house before the bet was up. Chekhov also writes, When the banker had read this he laid the page
on the table, kissed the strange man on the head, and went out of the lodge, weeping. At no other
time, even when he had

The diversity of food in one s meal often brings back different memories from people s past. In the poem, Pot Roast, by Mark Strand and the short story, Indian Takeout, by Jhumpa Lahiri both discuss about their experience with foodand present how food is significant to their culture. The description of her father sipping on mangoes allowed the reader to feel the sensation of tasting the oozing juice of the fruit. In addition to that, her audience can also sense the taste of the sweet, sticky oranges Lahiri s mother ate. Lahiri used specific diction when describing the yogurt cups and her sister s Moghlai paraths. The reader can visualize what the author saw by describing the red clay yogurt cups and the flat bread folded, omelet style Moghlai paraths. Lahiri s choice of words gave an amusing effect on her readers to participate in what she sensed and felt in her story. In the poem, Pot Roast, the speaker described his memory of his mother s pot roast through simplistic, yet descriptive, poetic versus. Strand also provided his readers concrete and specific diction in his poem. Humbert and Lolita develop a sexual relationship that inevitably takes away her innocence more each time that they are together. Furthermore, this paper will analyze the color arrangement, composition, proportion, hierarchy and motifs of the historical narrative Shantarakshita and scenes of his life and the Drowa Sangmo mural represented at the exhibition Once upon Many Times. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colors used in the painting are complementary with orange, blue and green dominating over the color pattern. Surrounding the image of Shantarakshita, who is the central image of what is essentially a mandala composition, are detailed scenes depicting how the eminent teacher brought the teachings of the Buddha to Tibet and helped to establish the Himalayan nation s first Buddhist monastery. The eye remains drawn to Shantarakshita, as the artist intends to praise Shantarakshita as the one who firmly established Buddhism in the hearts, minds, souls, and daily lives of Tibetans. Portrayed in a rich color palette containing saturated blues, reds, greens, and oranges, there is no remaining white space on the canvas. The lowest portion of the composition is more cluttered than the uppermost portion, serving a symbolic function. The artist contrasts the ordinary world of the human mind and society with the transcendent world of enlightenment. The blue halo surrounding Shantarakshita leads the eye up, through a lotus blossom, towards the two figures above him: Shakyamuni Buddha to the right and Shantarakshita s own teacher to the left ( Historical Narrative: Shantarakshita ). Although it is permanently on display in a Tibetan temple, the Drowa Sangmo Mural depicts more of an ordinary scene than the portrait of Shantarakshita. Types Of Bridges Research Paper TESL 301 Different types of Bridges Research Paper Because of advancements in today s technology in construction field, many types of bridges are being constructed depending on the requirement and their suitability for the situations. A bridge is a structure providing path over an obstacle. When constructing a bridge, obstacle can be a river, railway track or a valley and the path provided by bridge can be for a road, pedestrians, a railway, pipelines, viaducts to carry water from rich areas to dry cities, or for commercial purpose to host commercial buildings such as restaurants and shops. A bridge can also be laid to reduce the distance of travel which in turn reduces the time to reach the destination. (Vasani, 2011) Many components when assembled together form a bridge structure. Basic components of a bridge are superstructure or Decking, Bearings, Substructure which again consists of Piers and Abutments, Wing walls and Returns, and Foundation. Design of Comparator for Successive Approximation Analog Digital Converter Manali Matey Department of Electronics Engineering YCCE Nagpur, India manali.matey@gmail.com Swati Nitnaware Department of Electronics Engineering YCCE Nagpur, India swatitidke02@gmail.com Abstract SA ADCs are widely used in low power applications. Three architectures of the capacitor array Digital Analog Converter (DAC) used in SA ADC that are mentioned in this paper are binary weighted DAC, unary weighted DAC and segmented DAC. In this paper comparator is been designed for all these SA ADC architectures. The comparator used in SA ADC plays an important role. The main purpose of the comparator is to compare a signal with a reference signal and produce an output depending on whether the input signal is greater or smaller than the reference signal. The structure of the comparator does not depend on the segmentation degree (i.e. the number of unary bits), for all the binary, segmented, and unary structures, the same circuit configuration with similar power consumption can be employed. Keywords Successive Approximation Analog to Digital Converter(SA ADC); comparators; segmented capacitor based digital to analog converter (DAC); unary capacitor based digital to analog converter (DAC) I.INTRODUCTION Successive approximation analog to digital converter (SA ADC) has become very attractive in low power applications due to their low power consumption. • 13. The Argument For The Existence Of God My paper scrutinizes numerous logical disputes for and alongside the presence of God. I shall argue that there s no adequate evidence or inclusive arguments for the existence of God. It is grounded on the views of certain great philosophers and scientists of all of mankind. Generally speaking for myself, I would correspond to have faith that there is God . Regrettably, it s awfully well defined that the being built up on insightful faith is no longer a suitable custom to shadow. During the course, I expected to learn some type of proof with the intention of upholding a course of the belief in a God implanted in me by my parents. Sadly, this wasn t the case. It could have been fine if the ontological, theological, or cosmological argument could have related itself to the experimental world with a God outside this world, but they are unable too. The ontological argument failed because it was only a misleading piece of terms that couldn t prolong into actuality. The teleological argument expressed unsupported inferences from similarities of experiential remark and materialists supplied other possibilities that are reasonably legal. The cosmological argument failed as well since it not once understandably argued the making of the universe. There are many amazing individuals who ve consumed an immense sum of time in studying the Bible. In this paper, we aim to fill what we, as researchers and teachers in qualitative psychology, have experienced as a current gap: the absence of a paper which adequately outlines the theory, application, and evaluation of thematic analysis, and one which does so in a way accessible to students and those not particularly familiar with qualitative research. 1 That is, we aim to write a paper which will be useful as both a teaching and research tool in qualitative psychology. Therefore, in this paper we discuss theory and method for thematic analysis, and clarify the similarities and differences between different approaches that share features in common with a thematic approach. Qualitative approaches are incredibly diverse, complex and nuanced (Holloway Todres, 2003), and thematic analysis should be seen as a foundational method for qualitative analysis. It is the first qualitative method of analysis that researchers should learn, as it provides core skills that will be useful for conducting many other forms of qualitative analysis. Indeed, Holloway and Todres (2003: 347) identify thematizing meanings as one of a few shared generic skills across qualitative analysis.2 For this reason, Boyatzis (1998) characterises it not as a specific method but as a tool to use across different methods. The tenth amendment deals with three different types of power. The three separate powers are delegated powers, reserved powers, and prohibited powers. Delegated powers are the powers assigned to the Federal government. An example would be the power to regulate commerce. The reserved powers are the powers that are granted to the states. An example would be to regulate education. The prohibited powers are the powers that are denied to the national or state government by the Constitution. An example would be that the states cannot declare war or the national government cannot make any law that respects a particular religion. The only question that is posed by the tenth amendment is whether a claimed federal power is justified. The tenth amendment helps establish federalism in the Unites States. Federalism is a type of government in which the national government and the state s share sovereignty. The 10th amendment verifies that not all power is delegated to the national government or the states. The national government has all power vested to it from the enumerated powers of the Constitution, but the states have all other powers not already given to the national government. • 35. The Weight Restriction For Muscle Mass During Resistance... Introduction Over the last few years, there has been an increasing weight lifting culture. Adepts of the weight lifting community have developed all sorts of theories and training regimens in order to optimise the gains in muscle mass during resistance training. Unfortunately, many methods developed by these adepts have not yet been proved to be efficient by any scientific studies. Luckily, some researchers have studied the responses of muscle proteinmetabolismto nutrition and exercise and have enlightened us with knowledge regarding the function and importance of certain nutrients in protein synthesis (K. Tipton Wolfe, 2001) When performing resistance training over a period of time, muscular mass can increase (hypertrophy) in response to the specific stimulus induced on the muscle fibers during the exercise. In order for the skeletal muscle to grow, net protein synthesis must occur (protein synthesis must exceed protein breakdown). Net protein synthesis is non achievable if resistance training is performed alone without the intake of certain dietary nutrients (K. Tipton Wolfe, 2001). Recent evidence has shown that an increase in circulating amino acids induced by the consumption of certain nutrients following exercise can increase the net protein balance due to stimulation of muscle protein synthesis (Tang et al., 2007). Amino acids are the basic unit of protein structure and peptide bonds link amino acids in chains that take on diverse forms and chemical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To many the old system of labor seemed luxurious compared to the new type of work the Industrial Revolution brought. One would think industrialization would bring better paying jobs and more employment opportunities, but the stories of the people who lived through the Industrial Revolution say otherwise. Workers faced long days, if not even longer days than those who worked in preindustrial times. Even though work hours were somewhat the same as preindustrial labor, the way those hours were carried out differed greatly. Laborers no longer had the comfort of working alongside and socializing with their families nor the power to control their pace of work. Workers would now be punished and penalized for doing such things. Companies would enforce punctuality and pace usually by correlating it with a worker s pay. The less punctual and lazier you were, the more fines and the more pay decreases you would suffer. The nature of this new labor emphasized more on the importance of the company rather than the individual. Companies often had little concern when their workers suffered. Events in the nineteenth century made it abundantly and irrefutably clear that race as a concept sui generis superseded social class as the dominant mechanism of social division and stratification in North America. (Smedley 219) For many decades people have been using race as a way to classify humans into different social categories. Through the use of irony Crane allows the reader to scrutinize his illusions and see the disparity that exists between one s expectations and the events that make up one s life. Some even go as far as saying he pioneered a new brand of literary realism (Moss 2). The best example of Crane s impact in American literature can be the fact that his writings are studied in American literature classes in high schools, colleges, and universities ( Stephen Crane 1). Crane s theme of warfare is best shown when Henry begins to see the difference between his expectations of war and the realities of it; Henry explains during his first glimpse of battle that he felt that in this crisis his laws of life were useless (Crane 11). Delayed efforts in the exploration sector have not been able to find sufficient amounts of energy resources. Nations of the world which have their own reserves are not supplying energy resources anymore; only the old contracts made decades ago are active. Airplanes, trains, cars, motorbikes, buses and trucks, all modes of transportation are coming to a stand still. Many industries have closed due to insufficient power supply. Price of oil has gone above the ceiling. At domestic level, alternate methods like solar, biogas and other methods are being tried for mere survival. The above is a likely scenario of Pakistan and around the globe after 25 years. A pessimistic view, but realistic enough to think about and plan for the future. But are we doing anything about it? Lets have a look at the current energy situation of Pakistan and the world. Pakistan s economy is performing at a very high note with GDP growing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. How Children Learn Language HOW CHILDREN LEARN LANGUAGE By : Ahmadrawi The writer can be contacted at: scholars.assist@gmail.com 1. OVERVIEW The exact way in which millions of developing children get to the point where they can produce and understand millions of words and make sentences out of it is the subject of a heated debate in the psycholinguistic field. According to Saxton (2010,p.18), the study on how children learn language can be traced back to the German biologist, Tiedermann, in 1787. However, up until the late 1950 s, it is generally agreed that approach to child language research is at best haphazardly organized. Research for example was often limited to a generally informal observations (for example research done by Lukens,1894) or diary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This time, the rat only received food if it pressed the bar a certain number of times. After initial confusion, it learned to do this also (Aitchison,2008,pp.8 9). This type of learning is called operant conditioning by Skinner which can be translated as training by means of voluntary responses (the word operant means a voluntary response rather than an automatic one) and Skinner suggested that a vast majority of human learning take place via this mode, including learning of language(,Aitchison,2008,p.9). In his book Verbal Behaviour, Skinner argued that child efforts to speak are rewarded by parents. Each time the child produces an utterances that comes close to sounding like an acceptable word or sentence, the parent offers a reward in the form of praise or encouragement. As this conditioning goes on, the closer the child gets to the adult model of utterance the more parental rewards that he/she gets. Thus, the operant conditioning relies on the learner producing a linguistic behaviour that is progressively shaped through rewards, until the desired behaviour is achieved (Saxton,2010,p.90). Skinner s explanation of language acquisition soon inspired a critique and rival explanation from Noam Chomsky. Chomsky argued in some detail that mechanisms such as stimulus, response and reinforcement which are favoured by the behaviourists are not sufficient to explain verbal bahaviour. In this regard, Chomsky pivotal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Bet By Anton Chekhov Analysis The Bet , by Anton Chekhov, is an original story that is about a Banker and a Lawyer. Chekhov uses many elements of literature to show that society s opinion on prison has different viewpoints. Through this story Chekhov writes about two modern sides of prison, capital punishment and life imprisonment. He writes about a Banker and a Lawyer that set a foolish bet of two million dollars for fifteen years in solitary confinement. Anton Chekhov, shows this story through characterization and imagery. The first literary element Chekhov uses is imagery. Chekhov uses imagery powerfully to express particular point within the story. In the twenty ninth paragraph, the Banker walks in on the Lawyer and notices, He was a skeleton with the skin drawn tight over his bones, with long curls like a woman s and a shaggy beard. His face was yellow with an earthy tint in it, his cheeks were hollow, his back long and narrow, and the hand on which his shaggy head was propped was so thin and delicate that it was dreadful to look at it. His hair was already streaked with silver, and seeing his emaciated, aged looking face, no one would have believed that he was only forty. (Chekhov). Chekhov uses breathtaking imagery to show the reader that this aged, worn out, forty year old man, was once the young lawyer. This description helps provide the reader with a strong image of how the weary young man has changed and evolved into a pitiful and demented man since he has been in solitary confinement. Once the Lawyer is found lying asleep the Banker notices a note, in this note the Lawyer states, I have heard the singing of the sirens, and the strains of the shepherds pipes; I have touched the wings of comely devils who flew down to converse with me of God... In your books I have flung myself into the bottomless pit, performed miracles, slain, burned towns, preached new religions, conquered whole kingdoms. (Chekhov). The Lawyer writes this imagery in his letter to explain why he has chosen to leave the house before the bet was up. Chekhov also writes, When the banker had read this he laid the page on the table, kissed the strange man on the head, and went out of the lodge, weeping. At no other time, even when he had ...
