How The Military Health System Will Provide A New...
This November the nation will elect a new President and the present Defense Secretary Ash
Carter may no longer keep his position. As a member of the Defense Secretary s advisory team,
part of your responsibilities is to make sure that the rules and policies stay in tact and that the many
details that remain unclear get implemented. One of the main issues addressed should be how the
military health system will provide care to transgender troops, to include medical support for
gender transitions. You should include some discussion about 1) appropriating funding; 2) key
stakeholders; 3) programmatic and or agency accountability and 4) expected and projected
outcome. The statistics have shown from the Palm Center s Report of the Transgender Military
Service Commission, that transgender Americans have serviced in the military for years. In
addition, transgender are three times more likely to serve in the military than non transgender. If
that is the case, why are transgender people currently prohibited from serving openly, without the
fear of disclosures and discharge, as well as, feeling they are treated unequally. Even though, the
Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced new rules and policyfor transgender troops serving in the
military after a year of contentious debate inside the Pentagon because, some senior military
leaders questioned the impact on readiness. Therefore, the objective of the Defense Secretary s
advisory team is to make sure that all health care

Selling Foreign Products In The United States
I do agree with the statement. Selling foreign products in the United States promotes those
products over ones that are made in the US. Eventually as foreign products get sold more the
amount of similar products that are created in the United States will drop, and will cause jobs to
be lost. We can see how many jobs are being moved to other countries because they can make
products cheaper there. Today many people just want to get products at the cheapest price
possible, making these foreign products appealing for buyers. In some cases such as foreign cars,
the look of the cars can be more appealing to buyers, which brings up the sales of foreign cars, but
decreases the sales of cars made in the US. As the demand for local products such as

5.2 Why and how people give?
Overall donations to charities is dominated by Inner Directed people. Inner Direct people are the
most likely out of the three to give to a cause as they are the tester and innovators and are always
question what is right and what is wrong.
In these following graphs the axis is the average from the population that was asked during the
survey. So the first graph shows that 11% agrees with the statement they are regular givers and give
to one or more charities it shows that Inner Directed people are 30 times more likely than the
average person to donate. So here Inner Directed people are over indexed by 30% which means
they are 30 % more likely to give to more than one charity than the average person. ... Show more

As the advert shows both poverty close to home and poverty in other parts of the world they are
attracting the attention of both types of people meaning a larger proportion of the population will
donate to the charity.
5.3 What type of charities do people give to?
Each of the three sections responds to very different charities. Sustenance Driven are attracted to
institutions such as the Army/ military and hospitals, this is linked to the fact that sustenance
driven people have a strong interest in the safety and security of their communities and nation. They
are more interested in what is happening in the UK rather than international and overseas work.
Outer Directed people are interested in people as they are empathetic to people who are
struggling, as shown in the graph below by the interest in charities that support people with
disabilities as well as children and adults improving themselves. Again this group does not focus on
international, or overseas work are not as popular with Outer Directed people. They are also not as
focused on environmental matters.
Inner Directed people give to totally different causes to the other two, Inner Directed people are
focused on the world as a whole. Meaning they support international charities, as they are interested
in preserving the culture and heritage of other people, for the future.

Hidden Education And The Hidden Curriculum
Question 1
The hidden curriculum is sensed in every district building, school, and classroom, and an
observant outsider will be able to perceive the way things work and pick up on the culture and
values of the school as they travel the halls. Yet, the students inside and teachers attend each day,
perhaps unaware of the established environment and system. This hidden or implicit curriculum
plays a significant role in the educational life of a student and the professional life of a teacher, as
the norms and day to day happenings engender a culture that impacts behavior and beliefs. Some
aspects of the hidden curriculum are hard to identify, while some are purposeful but not explicitly
taught. The following authors address the various definitions and issues that are associated with
this powerful facet of learners education and educators profession.
First, Jackson (1968) describes hidden curriculum as the substance of school life that warrants
serious attention (in Flinders Thornton, 2013). Students spend hours and hours in school, with no
choice whether or not to go, and the unnoticed and unremarkable events that occur each day
collectively have a powerful impact on a child. Jackson compares schools to prisons, where
attendance is involuntary and the norms and routines are learned. Just like a prisoner, if a child
does not conform and learn the rules of his environment, he will struggle to make it through.
Jackson identifies criteria of hidden curriculum for

Movie Critique On The Industrial Organizational Psychology...
Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz
Introduction
The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being
that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to
the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z
(Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial
organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition
to the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other
characters and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such
as organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this
moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998).
In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the
colony princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his
newfound love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Z
is sent into battle during his quest to re connect with Princess Bala (Darnell et al., 1998). However,
he turns out to be the only soldier to survive the battle. This results in him seeing the princess again,
insulting the General, kidnapping Princess

Victor Frankenstein Character Analysis
Robert Walton is amazed and in awe, while he is traveling to the north pole. His traveling gives
him dreams and excitement for what will come during his travels. Robert is also convincing
himself that the cold and frost of the north will have many adventures for him. I wonder how much
this breeze means to Robert Walton and how he would feel if there was no breeze. I wonder if he
will be unmotivated or unable to continue on. I am also imagining his descriptions and thinking
whether or not my visions match with his visions and descriptions.
Victor Frankenstein is happy about the summer months and the scenery around him. He is happy
about the harvest from the farms and just happy about nature in general. I wonder how harvest
would look like and why he specifically mentions vines. However, at the same time, those
feelings made him forget about his friends and his loved ones, who are far away. Victor broke his
promise with his father and has worried his friends. I wonder what would happen if Victor just
suddenly appeared to loved ones and friends. I also wonder if his loved ones and friends would be
surprised and be happy or be disappointed for not hearing from him.
Victor was watching as his monster stood and came alive, while their was a storm in the sky. I
wonder why Victor called the storm a noble war that was so, beautiful yet terrific. Is it beautiful
because of the clouds and terrific because of the winds and lightning? Victor also watched as a bolt

How Batman Has Changed over the Past 70 Years
How has the Dc Comics superhero Batman changed over the past 70 years? How has design
influenced the development of the various costumes for the character and how are Batman films
reflecting darker forces within US Society? From Comic book Hero to national icon.
Introduction
In this dissertation I will discuss how DC Comics have developed and improved the design of
their comic books since their establishment in 1937. I will compare comics from past and present
and talk about the different styles of comic books that have been released from the company. I
will also talk about how the artwork from the comic books have influenced character and costume
design in recent DC Comic films. I will do this by studying the history of the company and
researching the designers behind the comic books. I will thoroughly research in detail the
characters and the designs of their costume and equipment and compare them to the different films
that have been released over the years. The main character I will look into is Batman. I will study
the origins of the character, the man behind the character, the reason behind Batman s creation, how
he has changed over the years, the development of other characters in the series, the famous villains
that Batman has had to face, the different costumes he has had over the years and I will also be
researching and studying how Batman has become a national icon in American society, and the
effects the character has had on people living in the country. Batman

Life and Contributions of Stalin Essay
1. Stalin s youth was surrounded by much violence. His father was an alcoholic who has
mercilessly beaten his mother which instilled a sense of violence with in him. Once his dad left
the family, he grew academically and was then invited to a Seminary. This was where he learned
many of the marks teachings.
2. When he first began, he couldn t do much for the cause other then to go to prison. Each time the
Tzar s police would find them and he would be arrested and thrown into exile a numerous amount
of times.

7. Five million people alone in the Ukraine died of famine due to Stalin s hand in taking all of their

8. The groups that were hurt by Stalin ranged from clergy men, shopkeeper, to even ex white army
soldiers. I think these people were attacked due to their more free ideals. Shopkeepers working
under capitalism, clergy men preaching, and the white army against the communist ideas.
9. Gulags are basically labor camps in which people were sent to be worked until exhausted of
any energy. They were used to instill fear within the people, this kept them in line. Some people
would come just because they were a couple minutes late for work and sometimes for stealing
food. Some of this ofrced labor was used to build things, some being failures, but then used to woo

in the commanders work and that led them to winning.
11. He sent many of the soldiers to camps. His reasoning behind this was mainly because he
thought they would revolt against him due to their viewings of Western Europe while away.

Why Spotify Should Be Allowed In Schools
Even though listening to music seems like such a menial activity, it plays a big part in many
peoples lives. Everyday I see kids listening to music while doing work in the library, which
shows how big of an activity it actually is. One music streaming service that is extremely
popular is Spotify and I have noticed many people using it. However, when doing work at
school, I m not able to access my music because Spotify is blocked on the Fordham Prep wifi. If
listening to music is allowed in school, why is Spotify blocked? Spotify is one of the most
popular music streaming services, offering more songs than any other service, including Pandora
and Apple Music. After noticing many people using Spotify, both in and out of school, I decided
to join and quickly realized why it is so popular. You can access every song in just a few seconds,
making it extremely convenient for its users. I no longer have to endure the hassle of searching
through iTunesto pay $1.29 for each song that I want to listen to. Spotify also offers a lot more
features than other services do. You are able to create your own playlists as well as listen to the
many Spotify playlists, which are constantly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main reasons is that by so many people being on it can slow down the wifi. However,
the Fordham Prep wifi is tends to be slow as it is, so how much worse can it really be? Another
solution is to block sites that are less popular or rarely used by students in order to make the wifi
faster, which can be done through a school wide survey. Overall, music is a big part of many
peoples lives, and Spotify only makes it more convenient and less expensive, something that I think
is important for high school students. By unblocking Spotify, students are able to listen to their
music freely and more easily, creating a happier and less stressful environment in

Lemons Theory
My grandma is a great example of someone who has made lemonade out of lemons. She married
and had her first child at young age and not long after the baby was born, she faced the tragic
death of her first husband. She later got remarried and had two other children, when her children
were old enough she began working. However, at a young age she had to quit working to take
care of her parents, and from that point on she has always had someone in her care. After her
husband was diagnosed with lung cancer, she had to begin undertaking responsibilities around
their farm on top of her normal responsibilities. As an older lady you would probably not ever
picture my grandma out the yard cutting fields, carrying buckets of water and feed to the animals,...

Even when her husband and one of her grandsons passed away, she continued to push on, no
matter how hard it life was for her. She carries food to her neighbors, is president of a women s
club in the area and bakes cakes for people whenever possible and so much more. This is why I
believe that the Activity theory is an appropiate theory to explain how my grandmother has
coped with her lemons in life. The Activity Theory states that higher levels of activity and
involvement are directly related to higher levels of life satisfaction in elderly people . (
Hutchison, p.652) She recently has started having health issues and had to have emergency
surgery. As always, her head strong personality and confidence in herself that has carried her
through life, helped her to overcome that major sickness. She is back to taking care of her
neighbors, working in the yard and even planning her class reunion. She also has a few of the
traits of the Six Traits of Growing Old with Grace (Hutchison, p.651). She shows cheerful tolerance
of the of the indignities of old age, maintaining hope, maintaining a sense of humor and capacity for

U.s. Citizen s Response
April 20, 1999, a day that brought shame and grief to the country of America. It took the nation
twelve student deaths, one teacher fatality, two suicides and twenty one others whom were left
seriously injured to finally provoke a close examination of the increasing levels of violence that
were occurring countrywide. At 11:19am, after attending their early morning bowling class,
eighteen year old Eric Harris and seventeen year old Dylan Klebold carried out a mass shooting
at their own local high school situated in the small town of Columbine in Jefferson County
Colorado. Armed with semi automatic rifles, hand guns and numerous other explosives, the
horror inflicted by the two individuals lasted approximately 12 minutes before they concluded by
taking their own lives. What intensified the spread of fear across many was the realisation that if
such an episode could strike a quiet suburb community such as Columbine, similar occurrences
had the capacity to shatter lives anywhere now more so than ever. U.S citizen s response to the
killings was to palpably determine the reasoning behind what could have driven two young
teenagers to commit such horrific murders. To no surprise it was for the majority of them and also
the government to subsequently conclude from analysed possibilities it was founded from bullying
in the classroom and violence portrayed via the media. The scale of such an event and the debate
amongst many as to what enabled two such beings to A. be fuelled by such

The Most Narcissistic Generation
It is obvious in this self centred society that we have created in this world, that this current
generation is the most narcissistic generation this earth has ever seen. Teens think they can do
whatever they want, and one of these things is that they can ease through life without having to put
any effort in what so ever. Children these days also think that they can wear whatever want from
making them look like a thug with tatts or piercings, another option is not wearing the proper
school uniform with socks down or ties and top buttons not done up properly. The biggest evidence
of narcissismin teenagers in on their phones with social media, because they want the most
followers and likes on their profile. These three reasons make a child feel accepted and social.
Children think life is as easy as walking down the yellow brick road. You cannot let this continue
with your child.
The first reason this is the most narcissistic generation we have ever seen is that these kids think
life is a breeze and they can just stroll through it. This is because they are not taught early on
enough that this is not ok and they should wake up now before it is too late. Some evidence for
this is in an article written by Wendy Squires, titled Is this the most narcissistic generation we ve
ever seen? , said, They re the work experience kids expecting to go straight to the corner office.

Apollo 13 Technological Transformations
APOLLO 13: THE TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGES. WHAT HAPPENED BY ZAVIAN ALI
The Apollo 13 mission left a great legacy and may have been one of the greatest mission of Nasa.
The astronauts pulled off an amazing run by having to survive of lack of oxygen and lack of
warmth. This is because the rupture in the oxygen tank exploded, which caused the inside of the
spacecraft to get damaged. The stability was very unstable. Houston we have a problem This is

They were calm and collective in the emergency issues. Nasa made more safety regulations so
that space ships would be more careful and more sturdy. Hopefully in the future any oxygen
tanks will not explode in air so that astronauts do not have to feel what Apollo 13 astronauts went
through. After finding out that Nasa changed the way they build their technology all of
astronauts were happy and excited that safety hazards have changed. In my opinion I think that
Nasa should have more people on board and then they can help people if any of these situations
were to happen again. Apollo 13 made history by having to orbit the moon and going back. They
did not complete the mission or objective but they still lived. This is also another reason why it
is called the successful failure. Apollo 13 was a great topic to learn about and also amazing to
see what happened to the scientists and how they survived in the situation that they were in. They
were very brave and not worried at all. The astronauts were calm and collective. They orbited the
moon once and had to go back to earth and jump in the pacific ocean. Some of the astronauts were

Hospitality establishments are continually trying to improve customer service and new
innovations are being created every day. Customer participation is an important component of
the service production process (Wattanakamolchai, 2008, p. 1). One concept to improve the
customer service delivery system is to have guests become participants in the actual production
and this term is called the co production . Since new technologies encourage a new genre of
experience, the concept designed for a new co production strategy for Portofino Bay Hotel is a
mobile app. A mobile app is a software program guests can download and have access by directly
using their phone or any other mobile device. This mobile app will provide guests a platform to
be used from their mobile device by using their tablet, mobile phone or laptop. The mobile app
will allow guests to book their rooms, check in, use as a room key, check out, make reservations
at any of the restaurants or at the spa, purchase tickets for Universal Orlando theme parks, and
provide immediate guest feedback on all services rendered. This, in turn, will allow the guests to
play an active role in guest participation in creating their own memorial experience. The

Police Suicide And Its Effects
Introduction The primary purpose of this term paper is to talk about police suicide and whether or
not it is preventable. While police suicide is an huge issue, the public do not hear much about it nor
have enough information. Therefore, it is important to let the public know that it is an issue by
spreading awareness and creating prevention methods. Important questions that should be asked are
: What is suicide? Why are police officers committing suicide? How many police officers are
committing suicide? Can police suicide be prevented? Have guidelines been created in efforts to
prevent police suicide? How does the suicide of an officer affect other officers?
Identifying the Problem Suicide is when a person purposely takes their own ... Show more content

While conducting their studies, Chae and Boyle found that when multiple factors occurred it
increased the risk of an officer wanting to commit suicide (2013). Some of the multiple factors
mentioned were shift work, critical incidents, stress, and relationship problems (Chae and Boyle,
2013). While officers may have suicide on their minds, most of them do not automatically commit
suicide. According to Nanavaty, some of the officers that have committed suicide have shown
warning signs (2015). Therefore, it is extremely important for the public, family, friends, and co
workers to be able to identify the warning signs so that an officer from committing suicide can be
prevented.
Causes for Police Suicide What affects one person does not necessarily affect another person.
Police officers have different reasons as to why they commit suicide. There are many causes for
committing suicide such as depression, death, retirement, loneliness, stress, relationship
problems, alcohol abuse, burnout and physical pain. Most officers do not commit suicide
because of just one cause in fact, many officers experience more than one cause at once. Take for
example depression, it is a serious illness and because of it officers can lack motivation, not
wanting to live, and have a lot of stress. The officer could have stress because of what they have
been exposed to such as trauma, irregular work hours, problems in the work force, long periods of

My Greatest Strengths As A Writer
I ve always struggled with trying to stay focused on my school work. While it may not look like
it on the outside, it is a constant struggle in the inside. My mind is like a jungle gym with a
bunch of kids zooming around. Sometimes I would just stare at the screen of my computer
hoping the words would just appear themselves, but if that ever happened I probably wouldn t
even be here. My brain has these switches in them to tell me to do something else like play a game
on your tablet or watch Netflix right when I am writingmy essay. It s how my brain works, and
there never seems to be a manual switch because it s automatic. My lack of focus caused me to

I also have a process when I peer review papers. I make sure to always compliment the student s
paper and then I point out some areas where there may need some improvement. I always make
sure to provide an example so they know what I am trying to say.
My last greatest strength as a writer is my commitment to providing the audience information in
a way that can be easily understood. When I was writing my research paper, I had to explain
some complicated concepts like Bayer demosaicing and photosites. In my research, I quoted
what McHugh explained about the Bayer demosaicing, Bayer demosaicing is the process of
translating this Bayer array of primary colors into a final image which contains full color
information at each pixel. Instead of rephrasing the definition I made a comparison, It s like a
coloring book. You decide what colors you want and you determine where they go, but until you
ve finished completing the coloring you won t see the final results. My comparison also provided
a visual representation of how the Bayer demosaicing process works. I think this helps make the
concept easier to comprehend because the reader can relate to it.
When I write my papers I usually like to talk out loud when I m writing them because it helps me
hear what it sounds like. However, my lack of focus can cause me to make a lot of grammar
mistakes such as comma splices. In all my papers, comma splices are the most common grammar
mistakes I make. When I m reviewing my

Holes By Louis Sachar Analysis
The two songs used in the book Holes by Louis Sachar have two slightly different meanings. The
text states If only, if only, the woodpecker sighs, (8). This is from the first song and it explains
how the meaning of the first song is if only things were a little different. The woodpecker in the
song is wishing and dreaming that something would be different. The first song has a meaning
of longing and wishing. The text says Fly high, my baby bird (233). This is from the second
song and it shows that the meaning of the second song is to fly high and live your life. It means
that you are strong and you can just fly and live. The bird in this song is flying away and going it

Marketing Audit Starbucks

Marketing Management

Executive Summary Since its foundation in 1971, Starbucks has been working uncompromisingly
to achieve the company objective of becoming the world s leading coffee brand. Having gone
through various stages of growing pain, today the Company is operating with over 10,000 stores in
37 countries. Starbucks success was mostly a direct result of its aggressive expansion plan, that
consequently turned the Starbucks coffee beverages into a most familiar and popular world leading
brand. Although Starbucks has been successful over the past 34 years, there are some potential

Consequently, this group of consumers possesses the greatest growth potential. In connection with
this growth potential, Starbucks also started Hear Music Coffeehouse stores that offer in store
music CD burning services. Starbucks further started to open Media Bars where customers can
create their own mix of CDs. This is Starbucks first phase of a multi phased national rollout
(Starbucks, 2006). Most likely these creative efforts will boost growth from the younger patorns
and music lovers.
On the other hand, the older generations may be reluctant to be attracted to Starbucks. Rather, they
may just visit a local coffee shop instead. Therefore this market segment may not grow as fast as
the younger generations. Furthermore, a market segment that has declining potential is the busy
working professionals. Because of their busy schedule, these working professionals, males and
females alike, may just brew their own coffees in the office space. Another discouraging factor is
the much higher price of Starbucks coffee products. As a general rule, Starbucks does not offer
promotional prices on its products, which tend to be higher than those of competitors (Wikipedia,
2006). As people grow older, they may be more conscientious to their spending. Regardless of
continued future growth potentials, Starbucks faces some drawbacks. In an effort to increase sales,
Starbucks started to print quotations on

doubt as to the need for a CPM, ...the owner will be required to make thousands of decisions and
is likely not sufficiently versed to make complex technical and financial judgements. In this
case, Lepatner suggests, retaining and owner s representative becomes imperative. BENEFITS
OF RETAINING A CPM As Lepatner describes, above, the scope of a construction project is

the greatest benefit you need to hire a CPM as early in the project as possible. This will enable
them to help improve your budgeting and scheduling, two areas reported to benefit most from
retaining a CPM. Your CPM will understand scheduling and budgeting in detail. They will use a

for changes in the process. They can make instant adjustments to keep everything moving forward.
In short, a good CPM is like the glue holding your

The perception and expectations of the flight attendants was constantly changing. For years prior
to the civil rights movement, Delta imposed strict rules on the women to include prohibition of
children and marriage fearing such would interfere with work. As an added bonus, Delta used the
women s availability as a way to lure businessmen to fly with Delta to be able to pick up eligible
women (Whitelegg, 2011). According to one flight attendant, being associated with the airlines
turned out to be a happy hunting ground for marriage partners for lots of young men and women
with healthy hormones and honorable intentions (Whitelegg, 2005, p.16). Recognizing this, the
image of the flight attendants become provocative as their uniforms became less formal. However,
women still found their jobs were liberating because they were breaking the traditional model and
perception of women s place in society. Delta s corporate social responsibility was not questioned
because the social etiquette for young women during this time was to get married. According to

With English speaking taking over the Cajun language suffers. With 18,000 out of the 700,000
people who live in the Cajun Country today still speak the native language. (History of Cajun
Country, 2006). Cajun French was made from African, Spanish, Native American and English
origins. The language that was spoken widely by the settlers has fallen by great numbers. One
of the main reasons the number has lower is because anyone who spoke the language from 1916
to the 1960s was punished for speaking it or learning it. Luther Hall that was elected as governor
in 1912 made new acts to make English the primary language spoken. In 1916 Act 27 was turned
into law. The Act forces all children to attend public schools where English was taught and only
spoken. This made the children who were raised in households that spoke Cajun French to learn
English. (History of the Cajuns: Encyclopedia of Cajun Life,2009) This resulted in the future
leaders and workers learning English rather their own. If any student or citizen spoke their native
language, they were to be punished. Some say that they were to write 100 times so they won t
speak it again or get hit on their knuckles with a stick (paulet in Cajun French). This leads to
Cajun French to fade away. It was not till 1968 when CODOFIL (Council for the Development of
French in Louisiana) that was made to bring French back in the schools

Societal Identity In Ender s Game
What defines a person s self? Maybe it s something they decide about themselves, or maybe
something quantifiable. In either case, everyone has some sort of Identity. Throughout the novel
Ender s Game, Ender, unsurprisingly the main character, is always questioning who he is both to
the rest of the world and to himself. This soul searching is a great catalyst for the plot to thicken.
His identitycrisis can be broken between three categories, societal identity, interpersonal identity
and personal identity. Ender s Identity is Ender s problems with societal identity are apparent even
within the first chapter, when he is called a third (Card 2). This term is a derogatory one which

His main crisis of identity has to be that of ending up like his seemingly mentally disturbed and
violent older brother, Peter. When his monitor is taken off of him, he was attacked by a group
of bullies. He subsequently defeated them, but did so in such a brutal way that he couldn t help
but feel guilty of unnecessary violence. This is shown in the quote Ender leaned his head
against the wall of the corridor and cried until the bus came. I am just like Peter. Take my
monitor away, and I am just like Peter. (Card 6). He also shows characteristics of Peter when he
is first put on the space station with other recruits. When he is being harassed by a kid behind
him, Ender anticipates the next blow and grabs the kid s arm, but he ends up breaking it (Card
26). He questions whether he broke the arm because he wasn t used to null gravity, or because
he was angry and couldn t control his outburst. He displays this quality again later in the book
too. When Ender is tested through a random computer generated simulation test, he gets upset
after none of his solutions are working and turns to violence. This has a deep psychological effect
on Ender because Peter is explicitly shown to be who he hates, so for him to become Peter is to
become everything he s avoided trying to become. The struggle between identities is troubling to
say the least, and truly defines his character. Luckily, this feeling of becoming peter is

Essay on the The Alchemist:
Name any five lessons Santiago learned and how he mastered them
The Alchemist is a journey of exploration and self discovery as we follow the main character,
Santiago, a young shepherd who lives in Spain, on a journey to fulfill his personal legend. The
novel shows us wisdoms and gentle reminders of how to change our lives from what they may be
today into the life we have always dreamed of.
The novel tells us that the fear of failure is the greatest obstacle to happiness. There is only one
thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure. So often we hide behind excuses
of not being able to do this or that, but the real story is that we are too afraid to take a chance. It is

if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.
Too often we get bogged down in our past, and in memories of events that we think define us and
restrict us from moving forward. The truth is that we can decide today who we want to be. We may
have some baggage, and we may have future dreams, but today is the only day where we can define
who we are and what direction we want our lives to go.
When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to
places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.
The only life Santiago knew was being a shepherd, but one day he made a decision that he wanted
to know more. He wanted to get out of Spain and see the rest of the world, and from there the rest

It all starts with that decision.

How has Steven Spielberg used film techniques to make the viewer feel more involved?
Introduction: The film Schindler s List is based on a book called Schindler s Ark, written by the
Australian novelist Thomas Keneally. It follows Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) a rich German
businessman as he devotes his life to saving as many refugees as possible, most of them being
Jewish Polish. He does this by employing them in his factories, where they make pots, pans and
later on in the film faulty ammunition for the German Nazi military. Oscar employed more than

into such a small, dry, hot space with no water and only short distance away water is being

them to give the Jewish people water however it was more enjoyable to watch them suffer.
Spielberg used a number of close ups on the suffering Jewish people. This shows the audience
how little room they have are and how mistreated they are by the Nazis. The final important
camera technique is the zoom along the length of hose. This has been used to enphasize the
lengths that Schindler will go to in order help the jewish people. Spielberg uses camera angles

These camera angles in this scene are used throughout the whole movie, showing the lengths

Lewis God Almighty Chapter 1 Summary
Lewis begins chapter two with God Almighty, by questioning the meaning of God s omnipotence.
He asserts that God s omnipotence means that God does not have the power to do anything but God
does have power to do anything that is consistent with his nature. God has the power to do all that is
intrinsically possible, not to do the intrinsically impossible. We may attribute miracles to him, but
not nonsense. Lewis then suggests that not even Gods omnipotencecould create men with free wills
without at the same time creating a relatively independent and unavoidable nature. Lewis
establishes a universe where free souls can communicate with one another and have free will. That
man, possessing this free will, may take advantage of the laws of

Essay about Maximizing Production in the Food Industry
Introduction
One of the most important management activities in today s economy is to improve performance,
especially labor productivity, because almost every manufacturing process involves human work.
Not only the physical work, but also the mental manpower is crucial to achieve the objectives of the
organization. Increased productivity includes greater motivation, personal participation and better
performance of work in the foodservice organization. For institutional food service, improving labor
productivity can be more challenging because of budget pressure and strict regulations. Many
studies have been done on working environment, management skills, vocational training and so on.

The Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) recorded the degree and intensity of
training activities in the firm they studied; and it was the key feature in this study, because
CVST solved the arguments of adding up a variety of economic activities with wide differences
in terms of capital or labor intensity (Sala Silva, 2012). Besides CVTS, intensity in research and
development, job training process, degree of capitalization, and general education were also
considered as factors in their calculation model, so the conclusion was able to apply to other
general professions.
Accordingly, human capital is also important for food service industry and it can promote
economic growth dramatically. The result of study from Sala and Silva can be applied to food
service industry as well. Proper vocational training before and during the employment can definitely
increase labor productivity. Training for new employees, such as food safety, skills of
handwashing, policy and skills of using certain machines, will help new employees to fit in work
quickly and reduce the chances of operational error. Based on what we learned in class,
improvements in design and operation of kitchen equipment is one of the applications of
productivity improvement. Continued vocational training can inform employees the updated
information about computerized machines, menu, new policy and regulations and customers
feedback as well.

Describe The Pathogenesis Behind Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become brittle and lose their durable architecture. This
condition can be caused as a side effect of some drugs such as corticosteroids, hormonal changes or
due to nutritional deficiencies. The pathogenesis behind osteoporosis is an imbalance between bone
catabolism and anabolism; which nutritioncontributes greatly to. The two main nutrients that are
implicated with bone turnover are calcium and vitaminD, and a deficiency in either of them can
result in impaired bone matrix deposition. Calcium and vitamin D are tightly linked; the body
cannot benefit from either if they are not present together. Calcium is one of the major components
of bone and regardless of the amount of intake, it cannot be absorbed

Things Fall Apart Order And Stability Essay
A form of order and stability are essential for the continued existence of any society. Order and
stability are often maintained through religious traditions and societal expectations. Conflicting
ideologies however, can lead to a society s stability being jeopardised. Chinua Achebe s 1958 novel
Things Fall Apart explores the concept of societal stability in reference to the West African Ibo
society. Through the use of omniscient narration, characterisation, juxtaposition and novel
structure, he examines how order can be achieved through religionand societal expectations, and
how instability can arise from conflicting ideologies.
Religion and sacred tradition often play an integral part in the structure and stability of a society.

His persona serves as a template of an ideal individual in Ibo society, which acts as a goal for
others to strive towards. Achebe contrasts the success of Okonkwo with his father Unoka, who
serves as an example of failure to conform to the Ibo society s expectations. Achebe evaluates this
through the characterisation of both Unoka and Okonkwo, When Unoka died, he had taken no
title and was heavily in debt. Any wonder then that his son Okonkwo was ashamed of him? The
rhetorical question revealing Okonkwo s shame for his father s lowly status prove Unoka s
position as the antithesis of success in the Ibo society. His contemptible circumstances serve as an
example to others in the clan of what to strive against; the reverse effect of Okonkwo s persona.
Okonkwo and Unoka are consistently depicted as opposites by Achebe, serving as examples of
success and failure within the Ibo society. Their differing positions within their clan outline the
traits the Ibo society value within the individual. It is from these values that the Ibo people derive
their societal expectations, which in turn act as guidelines for behaviour within their society,
contributing to their continued stability. The expectations that a society places on individuals
support the preservation of stability by providing a framework for proper

Overview of Scientific Management
Scientific Management
Frederick Taylor is the originator of the system labeled scientific management. In his book, The
Principles of Scientific Management (1911) Taylor examines the struggle between management and
labor for the control of production. To control production, he developed techniques for the measure
and design of machining methods as part of a general plan for increasing the planning functions of
management. Taylor s fundamental concept and guiding principle was to design a production
system that would involve both men and machines and that would be as efficient as a well
designed, well oiled machine. Time studies were used to allow management to take control of the
operations, thereby controlling production methods, and, by default, production. This system
required that management take an active role in the factory and through engineers and salaried
foremen take greater control over operations (Backer, 1998).
Taylor developed his principles of management while a machinist and foreman at the Midvale
Steel Company of Philadelphia. Taylor was bothered by, what was called worker soldiering, the
practice of purposely stalling or slowing down work by the workers. Taylor believed that the
objective of workers when they stalled was to keep their employers ignorant of how fast work can
be done.
Taylor believed the principal object of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity for
the employer along with the maximum prosperity for employees. He asserted

Importance Of Internet And Online Marketing
Section 2 Literature review
The purpose of literature review is to find what literature has to offer on how retailers in New
Zealand and Australia use internet and online marketing to do business, and the barriers they face
in doing so. It would also look into the way retailers retain their customers.
2.1 Importance of internet and online marketing to business
Before one proceeds to explore the importance of internet and online marketing to business, it is
important to understand how well New Zealand is connected with internet. New Zealand is in a
very comfortable position to benefit from internet use. The physical internet infrastructure is
growing and Government s ultra fast broadband and rural broadband programmes have made sure
that high speed internet is available throughout the country. This could potentially lead New
Zealand to have the best network infrastructure in the world, as evidenced by the use of internet
by businesses throughout the country (Adams, 2013). Ninety six percent (96%) of firms are
connected with internet. The economic performances of these firms depend on how well they use
it. Apart from the availability of internet, it is vital to note the way businesses use internet by to
improve the way they do business. Most of the businesses in New Zealand do not use internet to
its full potential, as proved from the World Wide Web Foundation (2012) ranking. New Zealand is

Operation Overlord
To this day, the world s largest invasion occurred on June 6, 1944. Operation Overlord, also
known as D day, needed to go well for the Allies because Germany had the French coast under
their own power. The United Kingdom preferred the idea of going to a weaker part of Germany s
territory such as Italy. America thought of a better plan; invade directly where Germany was,
France. The three big leaders of the Allies (Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin),

the German Army in two parts. The planning for D day took more than two years. As General

The German leaders had made the most mistakes during the invasion of Normandy. When Germany
was aware that the Allies were invading, the German commanders were absent from their post of
duty. One had taken off the weekend to celebrate his wife s birthday. Adolf Hitlerwas also asleep
when the invasion started. The German commanders were given the order not to wake him no
matter what the reason was. None of the commanders knew what to do, and did not want to
make decisions without consulting Hitler first. Germany had lost a lot of time waiting for
Hitler to wake up. When he finally woke up and was made aware of what was going on, he
thought it was just a diversionary attack. He told his commanders to be ready for the real one
soon. If a country is fighting in a war, they should have their troops ready at a minutes notice.
Germany diverted some of the troops to a different area because they thought that they were
going to invade somewhere else. They assumed that this place would be closer to England. A
place near England was considered because Germany knew that the Allies would have to transport
a large quantity of weapons and troops for the invasion. The Allies would have to transport the

Lynn Nottage s Intimate Apparel follows the life of Esther Mills, an African American
seamstress in the year 1905. Esther s diligence in her personal business of creating women s
underwear connects her with the rest of the cast to create a riveting story full of plot twists.
Multiple aspects of the play come together to portray how Ester overcomes social roles on her
course to find true love. Given the time of the play and gender of the main character, the
reoccurring themes in this play revolve around Esther. Being an African American female in the
early 1900 s, times were hard. She had become a very successful seamstress and was able to
provide for herself. After many years of hard work, Esther had saved a small fortune in her quilt
to build toward her dreams of creating her own beauty salon where African Americans will
receive the same level of care as whites. This, along with her other dream of falling in love and
getting married, is all she has worked for. Once George, a laborer from overseas who
unexpectedly began writing love letters to Ester, had moved in and was looking for work,
Esther felt the need to accept the gender roles of time and give up her life savings in order to
help George make something of himself. George tore open her quilt without a care for her
feelings and was only focused on himself. He then goes to gamble it all away with Mayme, a
prostitute who happens to be one of Ester s customers.

Proverbs Essay
Proverbs: Choice and Discernment, the Two Ways of Living
In studying the book of Proverbs there is a similar theme of choice and discernment, the
teachings of decision making and the repercussions of your actions. These books are made up of
extremes and polar opposites. The dualisms are the rich and poor, the righteous and the wicked,
and the wise and the foolish. There is advice given and it is up to the judgment of the person to
which category they will fall into. There are two ways of living, and based on the person s
discernment and ultimate choice to which one they will get to live. This paper will focus on
Proverbs 10, 12, and 14, Solomon s Proverbs, to display this theme of choice and discernment.

The passage is most explicit to what will actually happen if a man chooses the wrong kind of
wife. He will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad on whom to marry, he will experience
physical ailments. If the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he
will be rewarded for acting wisely. If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if
you work hard, you will get a fortune (12:27). This passage shows that the repercussions to your
decisions can be very bountiful. If you make the right decision to work hard and not be lazy, you
will come into wealth and get what you are after in life. Retribution is not an entirely satisfactory
term, however, for the English word connotes punishment rather than reward, and immediate
rather than gradual consequences . This passage is showing that there is not just consequences,
there are rewards for discernment, and God/dess will provide those to you. Again, this Proverb
is about choosing which way of life suits you; in all cases, having better judgment and being
righteous will always bring you a better life, and be profitable. Proverb 14 continues to address
this dualistic approach on advice. Homes are made by the wisdom of women, but are destroyed
by foolishness (14:1). This passage is very interesting because Proverbs has been directed mainly to
men, and this is telling the men that their women are wise. It would be foolish to not listen to a
woman. Your house is not built with

cross dressing. Cross dressing is when a male actordresses up as a female to play the part or
viscera, with the audience usually being aware of the cross dressing as the rest of the characters
in the film don t suspect a thing. Many films have been successful with this type acting especially
comedy films, for example of a film that has done this recently would be White Chicks as these

The narrator than visits a Veterans Admissions office for help, but the requested assistance is
turned down. The narrator then has a flash back of a friend, who fought in the Battle of Khe
Sahn. He remembers that his friend at a lover in Saigon, but the relationship didn t develop long
since he was killed. The narrator then finds himself in prison, after attempting to burn down the
refinery in protest of not getting his old job back. He ends by saying that he was born in the
USA, but this is more of a negative statement than one of patriotism. At least, that s how I
interpreted the lyrics. Throughout the song, the same two keyboard (synthesizer?) chord is
repeated, while the drums mostly keeps the same beat. It toke a couple listens and watching the
music video to hear that the electric guitar also has an influence after the first verse. As much as I
generally enjoy Springsteen s work of the seventies and the eighties, his locals make it difficult to
understand during the first couple of listens. But, his vocals are meant to angry as, in one respect,
this is a protest song.

Osteoporosis And How It Begins
Osteoporosis and How It Begins
Common fractures that occur in the spine, hips, and wrist are frequently related to osteoporosis.
Sometimes mild stressors such as coughing or bending over may cause a fracture of brittle and
weakened bones related to osteoporosis. Bone is live tissue that is continuously damaged and
repaired.
Out with the Old, In With the New
Osteoporosis takes place when the removal rate of the old bone tissue is faster than the
formation of new bone. Normally in the beginning stages of bone loss there are no symptoms
exhibited. When weakness has developed in the bones due to osteoporosis, some signs and
symptoms that appear are: height loss, forward bent posture, back pain or fractures that occur
easily. Bones are regenerated continuously, the aged bone is destroyed as the new bone is
created. As the body ages, and the process of old bones being broken down occurs at a quicker
rate than new bone being formed, this process decreases bone mass. The chances of developing
osteoporosis is influenced by the amount of bone mass developed in adolescent years. An elevated
bone mass at peak level indicates the amount of bone present and indicates that you have less
chances to develop osteoporosis with age (Mayo Clinic, 2014).
Bone Density Test
A common test used to determine the health of bones is a Bone Mineral Density (BMD) test. This
test can detect osteoporosis, risks for fractures, and assess treatment response. A dual energy x ray
absorptiopmetry (DXA) test is

The Glass Escalator By Adia Wingfield
In today s society it is still common to assign gender stereotype to specific career paths. Careers
such as a construction worker, mechanic and electrician may be gender stereotyped as a man s
career and careers such as nursing, secretary, elementary school teachers and child care workers
may be seen as a woman s profession. I chose to analyze the concept of The Glass Escalator by
Adia Wingfield and relate it to two different news articles More men enter Fields Dominated by
Women. By Shaila Dewan and Robert Gebeloff and the article Kudos for the Black Male Nurse
by Benjamin Greeen Jr. It has been encouraged for both men and women to take on occupational
fields regardless of genderand racestereotypes. In Adia Wingfield s study she also focuses on the
inequality based off of race and gender in the work field for advancement in the a workplace. I
decided to focus more on the subject of men just entering these different fields as an
accomplishment. The Glass Escalator discusses the intertwining of race and gender combine to
shape experiences for minority men in the culturally feminized field of nursing and discovers that
upward advancements that may be offered to women may not be offered to a manin a dominated
woman s work field. The perception that men are not really suited to do women s work also
contributes to the glass escalator effect. It is interesting that there are specific ideals in the work
field on what a man and a woman can handle. Doctors are

3Victorian/Edwardian Era (Notes) Past Exam Questions 2010: 1) INSTITUTIONSAny industrial

the development of domestic industry. Discuss. 2) EDUCATION The Englishman s lack of

therefore, problematic for the development of industry? 3) LABOUR PRODUCTIVITY/CROSS

A Clean Well-Lighted Place Waiter
In A Clean, Well Lighted Place, it seems as if the young waiter resembles Henry because he is
young and the most masculine from the other characters involved; he only thinks of what he
wants. For example, when the deaf old man wants another round of brandy the young waiter
feels sleepy and says, I never get into bed before three o clock. He should have killed himself last
week. The waiter took the brandy bottle and another saucer from the counter inside the cafe and
marched out to the old man s table. He put down the saucer and poured the glass full of brandy.
You should have killed yourself last week, he said to the deaf old man (Hemingway Clean 289).
Both the young waiter and Henry seem to fully know what s going on and are in control.... Show

Now, without thinking further, he would go home to his room. He would lie in bed and finally,
with daylight, he would go to sleep. After all, he said to himself, it s probably only insomnia.
Many must have it (Hemingway Clean 291). The old waiter is on his way to a bar as he talks to
himself, it is dark; in, A Farewell to Arms, Henry says, I am afraid of Him in the night sometimes
(A Farewell. 62), meaning Hemingway is scared of God at night because he thinks God may
punish him or not protect him from evil. So when he arrives at the bar he feels safe and a little
foolish for scaring himself and smiles. But by him memorizing parts of the prayer he has very
little faith. When the old waiter is praying, he wants God to have mercy on him, protect him
because he s scared and lost. The old waiter also lies to himself trying to make things seem a
little brighter by convincing himself it s only insomnia and Many must have it (Hemingway
Clean 291). The old waiter has no faith, is scared of the dark and goes to sleep during the day;
not very masculine because he s scared, lost and not in control if he can t sleep at night when
most people sleep the deaf old man from, A Clean, Well Lighted Place, by having no faith because
God didn t save Catherine, and because according to Henry, Everything was gone inside of me
(Hemingway Farewell 282).

Hoplites Into Democracy Analysis
In his 1996 work titled Hoplites into Democrats: The Changing Ideology of Athenian Infantry,
Victor Hanson analyzes the timeline of the Athenian government as it transitions into a democracy
and the effect this transition had on their warfare culture. Throughout the article, Hanson refers to
the seventh and sixth century BC as the normative polis before democracywhen the government was
timocratical and Athens was an early agrarian polis; and then continues his article to emphasize the
fifth and fourth centuries BC during the political reforms and the emergence of democracy as the
main form of government. Hanson mentions the tensions that arose between landowners and non
landowners as the government transitioned from timocratic to democratic,... Show more content on

With continuous war and battles being fought, the Athenian farmers gained profits because of
greater opportunity for theft (301). Hanson pulls from the fragmented works of an anonymous
Oxyrhynchus Historian to support his plundering claim. The historian writes that the Athenian
countryside was the most lavishly furnished in Greece (300). Hanson draws to the conclusion that
Attic farmers in the fifth century BC often took rural property from conquered subjects and then re
employed it on their own farms (301). With money being the new standard of privilege, as stated
earlier, farmers utilized the lavish material items they plundered to gain economic status within
their culture. Another policy that Attic farmers enjoyed under democracy was the introduction of
pay for hoplite military service... sometime around the mid fifth century BC (301). Hanson notes
that Athenian farmers were discovering the attractions democracy had to offer (301) since
compensation was nonexistent during agrarian warfare because it was a necessity to fight to save
the farm. The burden of battle shifted between the old regime, where the agrarian community faced
battle alone, and the new regime, where the burden was on the entire polis to fight for each other s
land (301). As generations continued, a new kind of self interested Athenian hoplite became
prevalent due to their

Physical Geography Of Uruguay
Uruguay Country Profile
Physical Geography
Uruguay is a country in South America. It borders the South Atlantic Ocean, to the west is
Argentina, and northeast is Brazil. To the south it lies opposite to the RГo de la Plata, which is a
wide estuary opening out to the South Atlantic. The capital Montevideo, which is also a major
port, is on the edge of the RГo de la Plata (see Figure one). Uruguay is the smallest Spanish
speaking country in South America. It is a water rich land, and consists of three systems of rivers.
One of these rivers is RГo Uruguay, which forms the border with Argentinaand is bounded by low
banks. The most important of the three rivers, which also happens to be the longest, is RГo Negro.
RГo Negro travels across the northeast of the country to the west, and empties into RГo Uruguay.
Uruguay has plains on the eastern, western, and southern edges. Along with all of the flat plains,
there are ranges of low hills. The highest point in these hilly areas is the Cerro Catedral, located in
the Cuchilla Grande mountain range ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the large amount of water in the country, there is often high humidity and fog. The rainfall
in the country is evenly distributed throughout. On average, Montevideo gets 950 millimeters of
rainfall annually. The rainfall in this area results from the passing of cold fronts in the winter, and
thunderstorms are frequent in the summer. In Uruguay, there is only 2 3% of land that is forested,
and around 30,000 40,000 kilometers of the land is arable. Vegetables for the capital are produced

ABSTRACT:
Distribution Channel Margins form an important component of the distribution cost which directly
affects the bottom line of any company. While the companies are trying to reduce the distribution
costs, to improve their own margin pressures, there seem to be little innovations in this area.
The margins offered to the distribution channel members by most of the companies are fixed in
percentage, which is directly proportional to the price of the product. In case of any change in price,
the channel margins in absolute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Distributor s Cost: The above model does not consider the cost of running the business of the
Distributor. Due to diverse nature of the Indian markets, cost of running a distribution business
differs from market to market. Some markets may have higher concentration of retailers in few
places whereas some markets offer scattered locations of retailers, thereby affecting the
transportation cost. In highly populous markets, the speed of credit cycle may be high as compared
to less populous markets, thereby affecting the working capital requirement. The congestion on the
urban roads, distribution time, manpower requirement, average order quantity, etc. also need
customized considerations. 3. Return on Investment: When the margins are standardized, the ROI
calculation is totally dependent on the volumes of business. Executives often inflate the targeted
volume of business to meet the ROI expectations of the distributors. Many times, such inflated
targets are unrealistic and unachievable, resulting in loss to the distributor. This results in loss of
trust and goodwill of the firm and higher attrition rate of the distributors. 4. Firm s Marketing
Strategy: A Firm may change its marketing strategy which may require price changes. Such
strategies may include re positioning,

Biography of Niels Bohr, The Danish Physicist Essay
Harald became the first of the Bohr brothers to earn a master s degree. Niels earned his 9 months
later. The students in his class had to submit a thesis on a subject assigned by their supervisor.
Bohr s supervisor was Christiansen, and the topic he gave them was the electron theory of metals.
Bohr then elaborated his master s thesis in to his much larger theory Doctor of Philosophy thesis.
He questioned the literature on the subject ,settling on a model assumed by Paul Drude and
elaborated by Hendrik Lorentz ,which stated in which the electrons on a meta; are considered to
behave like a gas. Bohr enlarged Lorentz model, but still unable to account for singularities like the
Hall Effect, and decided that the electron theory could not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His 3 papers, which later became famous as the trilogy were published in the Philosophical
magazine in July. Later in the year He revised Rutherford s nuclear structure to Max Planck s
quantum theory and created the Bohr model of the atom. He revolutionized the theory of electrons
traveling in orbits around the atoms nucleus. He also announced the idea that an electron could
drop from a higher energy orbit to a lower one, in the progress also emitting a quantum of discrete
energy. This theory became known as the old quantum theory. The trilogy s acceptance was dur to
it s ability to explain the phenomena which blocked other models ,and predicted the results that
were then verified by experiments. Today the Bohr model of the atom has been outdated but is still
known as the best model of atoms, and is still used in high school physics and chemistry.
Bohr soon realized that he did not enjoy teaching the medical students. He decided to return to
Manchester, where Rutherford had offered him a job as a reader in Darwin s place, whose contract
had expired, Bohr accepted. In April 1917, Bohr began a campaign to establish an institute of
Theoretical Physics. He gained the support of Danish government and Carlsberg Foundation,
establishing the institution in November 1918 known as the Niels Bohr Institute, the doors were
opened by March 3,1921 with Bohr as the director. His family moved into an apartment on the first
floor. The Bohr Institute helped as a main point for

Modern Technology and It s Effects Essay
Argumentative essay
In our present society, people cannot deny that the changes in this world have been tied to the
advancement of the technology. It has evolved with this society so deeply where such conveniences
are no longer luxuries but rather necessities. Unfortunately, the most affected group of people from
the developed technology is the younger age people (Subrahmanyam, 2000). In the past, children
were more lively and active: playing outdoors, running around, climbing trees and remaining active
rather than watching television and playing video game and computer. It is true that the use of the
technology has its own virtue. It provides value, convenience and entertainment, but it should not
take the place of movement and realistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This kind of fats increases the level of cholesterol that could develop problems of heart, joints
and spinal cord (Journal of obesity, 2005). Afterwards, the impact of this problem can lead
children to more intense psychological and medical issues, which can have future reaching
effects even into adulthood (Pitman, 2008). According to the Center for Disease Control and
Prevention in 2004, 16 percent of children in the ages of 6 19 year old are overweight or obese
which could really have a great chance of developing Type II Diabetes, sleep apnea, high
cholesterol and blood pressure (Obesity, 2011). In addition, technology can expose children to a
number of other physical risks: seizures, hand injuries and changes in heart rate (Subrahmanyam,
2000). Obviously, those of the raised problems above are the developed negative health problems
that come from the overused of technology in the children s daily life.
The second reason why modern technology contributes to negative health problems is that children
independently use technology, which impact on their social development and relationship. As the
age of the kids, the majority of them still cannot control or understand how to limit themselves
from their wants. Some children spend so much time playing computer and video games all alone
that they are losing their ability to socialize with others, families and friends. Children can
averagely spend six hours each day watching television or

The Social And Psychological Ramifications Of Obesity Essay
Many people struggle with obesity in the United States face on a daily basis. Its effects can be
seen in adults and according to the World Health Organization, 25% of U.S. children are
overweight or obese (Hill Peters, 1998, p.1371). Obesity disproportionately impacts children,
which makes them the fastest growing group in the obese population. These children face many
troubles in their schools and communities. The largest struggle is bullying, which is something
that can affect them throughout their entire lives. Bullying can also cause other problems,
including depression, low self esteem, anxiety, suicidal ideation also known as bully cide , and
low quality of life. Children look to their peers for acceptance of their sense of identity, but
bullying can create stigmas, causing support and acceptance to fall away. The social and
psychological ramifications induced by the bullying victimization process may hinder the social
development of overweight and obese youth, because adolescents are extremely reliant on peers
for social support, identity, and self esteem (Janssen, 2004, p.1187). Bullying can cause children
to feel alone, therefore turning to food as a coping mechanism, which can increase the amount of
obesity among children. It is important that children feel accepted and cared for by their peers.
Being obese or overweight can lead to a number of medical problems, such as cardiovascular
disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome (Gray, 2009, p.721).

  • 2. How The Military Health System Will Provide A New... This November the nation will elect a new President and the present Defense Secretary Ash Carter may no longer keep his position. As a member of the Defense Secretary s advisory team, part of your responsibilities is to make sure that the rules and policies stay in tact and that the many details that remain unclear get implemented. One of the main issues addressed should be how the military health system will provide care to transgender troops, to include medical support for gender transitions. You should include some discussion about 1) appropriating funding; 2) key stakeholders; 3) programmatic and or agency accountability and 4) expected and projected outcome. The statistics have shown from the Palm Center s Report of the Transgender Military Service Commission, that transgender Americans have serviced in the military for years. In addition, transgender are three times more likely to serve in the military than non transgender. If that is the case, why are transgender people currently prohibited from serving openly, without the fear of disclosures and discharge, as well as, feeling they are treated unequally. Even though, the Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced new rules and policyfor transgender troops serving in the military after a year of contentious debate inside the Pentagon because, some senior military leaders questioned the impact on readiness. Therefore, the objective of the Defense Secretary s advisory team is to make sure that all health care ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Selling Foreign Products In The United States I do agree with the statement. Selling foreign products in the United States promotes those products over ones that are made in the US. Eventually as foreign products get sold more the amount of similar products that are created in the United States will drop, and will cause jobs to be lost. We can see how many jobs are being moved to other countries because they can make products cheaper there. Today many people just want to get products at the cheapest price possible, making these foreign products appealing for buyers. In some cases such as foreign cars, the look of the cars can be more appealing to buyers, which brings up the sales of foreign cars, but decreases the sales of cars made in the US. As the demand for local products such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Factors Influence the Individual Person and... 5.2 Why and how people give? Overall donations to charities is dominated by Inner Directed people. Inner Direct people are the most likely out of the three to give to a cause as they are the tester and innovators and are always question what is right and what is wrong. In these following graphs the axis is the average from the population that was asked during the survey. So the first graph shows that 11% agrees with the statement they are regular givers and give to one or more charities it shows that Inner Directed people are 30 times more likely than the average person to donate. So here Inner Directed people are over indexed by 30% which means they are 30 % more likely to give to more than one charity than the average person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the advert shows both poverty close to home and poverty in other parts of the world they are attracting the attention of both types of people meaning a larger proportion of the population will donate to the charity. 5.3 What type of charities do people give to? Each of the three sections responds to very different charities. Sustenance Driven are attracted to institutions such as the Army/ military and hospitals, this is linked to the fact that sustenance driven people have a strong interest in the safety and security of their communities and nation. They are more interested in what is happening in the UK rather than international and overseas work. Outer Directed people are interested in people as they are empathetic to people who are struggling, as shown in the graph below by the interest in charities that support people with disabilities as well as children and adults improving themselves. Again this group does not focus on international, or overseas work are not as popular with Outer Directed people. They are also not as focused on environmental matters. Inner Directed people give to totally different causes to the other two, Inner Directed people are focused on the world as a whole. Meaning they support international charities, as they are interested in preserving the culture and heritage of other people, for the future. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hidden Education And The Hidden Curriculum Question 1 The hidden curriculum is sensed in every district building, school, and classroom, and an observant outsider will be able to perceive the way things work and pick up on the culture and values of the school as they travel the halls. Yet, the students inside and teachers attend each day, perhaps unaware of the established environment and system. This hidden or implicit curriculum plays a significant role in the educational life of a student and the professional life of a teacher, as the norms and day to day happenings engender a culture that impacts behavior and beliefs. Some aspects of the hidden curriculum are hard to identify, while some are purposeful but not explicitly taught. The following authors address the various definitions and issues that are associated with this powerful facet of learners education and educators profession. First, Jackson (1968) describes hidden curriculum as the substance of school life that warrants serious attention (in Flinders Thornton, 2013). Students spend hours and hours in school, with no choice whether or not to go, and the unnoticed and unremarkable events that occur each day collectively have a powerful impact on a child. Jackson compares schools to prisons, where attendance is involuntary and the norms and routines are learned. Just like a prisoner, if a child does not conform and learn the rules of his environment, he will struggle to make it through. Jackson identifies criteria of hidden curriculum for ... • 6. Movie Critique On The Industrial Organizational Psychology... Movie Critique on the Industrial Organizational Psychology present in Antz Introduction The 1998 film Antz is an excellent depiction of the industrial and organizational work force. Being that the film is a Dream Works animation, it has a simple and attention grabbing plot that is given to the viewer through the perspective of a hero, and in this context an colony ant worker named Z (Darnell et al., 1998). This peculiar, open minded ant portrayed several topics related to industrial organizational psychology such as leadership, occupational stress, and job satisfaction. In addition to the prevalent presence of industrial psychology that can be seen in the main character, other characters and details of the plot are representative of industrial psychology as well. Elements such as organizational commitment and employee selection are intriguingly exemplified through this moralistic story of ants (Darnell et al., 1998). In the film Antz, the once miserable and dissatisfied protagonist finds bliss and hope in the colony princess, Princess Bala at a worker s bar. Z leaves the work colony for a day to pursue his newfound love interest by pretending to be a soldier for a day. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Z is sent into battle during his quest to re connect with Princess Bala (Darnell et al., 1998). However, he turns out to be the only soldier to survive the battle. This results in him seeing the princess again, insulting the General, kidnapping Princess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Victor Frankenstein Character Analysis Robert Walton is amazed and in awe, while he is traveling to the north pole. His traveling gives him dreams and excitement for what will come during his travels. Robert is also convincing himself that the cold and frost of the north will have many adventures for him. I wonder how much this breeze means to Robert Walton and how he would feel if there was no breeze. I wonder if he will be unmotivated or unable to continue on. I am also imagining his descriptions and thinking whether or not my visions match with his visions and descriptions. Victor Frankenstein is happy about the summer months and the scenery around him. He is happy about the harvest from the farms and just happy about nature in general. I wonder how harvest would look like and why he specifically mentions vines. However, at the same time, those feelings made him forget about his friends and his loved ones, who are far away. Victor broke his promise with his father and has worried his friends. I wonder what would happen if Victor just suddenly appeared to loved ones and friends. I also wonder if his loved ones and friends would be surprised and be happy or be disappointed for not hearing from him. Victor was watching as his monster stood and came alive, while their was a storm in the sky. I wonder why Victor called the storm a noble war that was so, beautiful yet terrific. Five million people alone in the Ukraine died of famine due to Stalin s hand in taking all of their crop. 8. The groups that were hurt by Stalin ranged from clergy men, shopkeeper, to even ex white army soldiers. I think these people were attacked due to their more free ideals. Shopkeepers working under capitalism, clergy men preaching, and the white army against the communist ideas. 9. Gulags are basically labor camps in which people were sent to be worked until exhausted of any energy. They were used to instill fear within the people, this kept them in line. • 10. Why Spotify Should Be Allowed In Schools Even though listening to music seems like such a menial activity, it plays a big part in many peoples lives. Everyday I see kids listening to music while doing work in the library, which shows how big of an activity it actually is. One music streaming service that is extremely popular is Spotify and I have noticed many people using it. However, when doing work at school, I m not able to access my music because Spotify is blocked on the Fordham Prep wifi. If listening to music is allowed in school, why is Spotify blocked? Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services, offering more songs than any other service, including Pandora and Apple Music. After noticing many people using Spotify, both in and out of school, I decided to join and quickly realized why it is so popular. You can access every song in just a few seconds, making it extremely convenient for its users. I no longer have to endure the hassle of searching through iTunesto pay $1.29 for each song that I want to listen to. Spotify also offers a lot more features than other services do. Another solution is to block sites that are less popular or rarely used by students in order to make the wifi faster, which can be done through a school wide survey. Overall, music is a big part of many peoples lives, and Spotify only makes it more convenient and less expensive, something that I think is important for high school students. • 11. Lemons Theory My grandma is a great example of someone who has made lemonade out of lemons. She married and had her first child at young age and not long after the baby was born, she faced the tragic death of her first husband. She later got remarried and had two other children, when her children were old enough she began working. However, at a young age she had to quit working to take care of her parents, and from that point on she has always had someone in her care. After her husband was diagnosed with lung cancer, she had to begin undertaking responsibilities around their farm on top of her normal responsibilities. Even when her husband and one of her grandsons passed away, she continued to push on, no matter how hard it life was for her. She carries food to her neighbors, is president of a women s club in the area and bakes cakes for people whenever possible and so much more. This is why I believe that the Activity theory is an appropiate theory to explain how my grandmother has coped with her lemons in life. The Activity Theory states that higher levels of activity and involvement are directly related to higher levels of life satisfaction in elderly people . ( Hutchison, p.652) She recently has started having health issues and had to have emergency surgery. As always, her head strong personality and confidence in herself that has carried her through life, helped her to overcome that major sickness. She is back to taking care of her neighbors, working in the yard and even planning her class reunion. She also has a few of the traits of the Six Traits of Growing Old with Grace (Hutchison, p.651). It took the nation twelve student deaths, one teacher fatality, two suicides and twenty one others whom were left seriously injured to finally provoke a close examination of the increasing levels of violence that were occurring countrywide. At 11:19am, after attending their early morning bowling class, eighteen year old Eric Harris and seventeen year old Dylan Klebold carried out a mass shooting at their own local high school situated in the small town of Columbine in Jefferson County Colorado. Armed with semi automatic rifles, hand guns and numerous other explosives, the horror inflicted by the two individuals lasted approximately 12 minutes before they concluded by taking their own lives. What intensified the spread of fear across many was the realisation that if such an episode could strike a quiet suburb community such as Columbine, similar occurrences had the capacity to shatter lives anywhere now more so than ever. U.S citizen s response to the killings was to palpably determine the reasoning behind what could have driven two young teenagers to commit such horrific murders. To no surprise it was for the majority of them and also the government to subsequently conclude from analysed possibilities it was founded from bullying in the classroom and violence portrayed via the media. • 13. The Most Narcissistic Generation It is obvious in this self centred society that we have created in this world, that this current generation is the most narcissistic generation this earth has ever seen. Teens think they can do whatever they want, and one of these things is that they can ease through life without having to put any effort in what so ever. Children these days also think that they can wear whatever want from making them look like a thug with tatts or piercings, another option is not wearing the proper school uniform with socks down or ties and top buttons not done up properly. The biggest evidence of narcissismin teenagers in on their phones with social media, because they want the most followers and likes on their profile. These three reasons make a child feel accepted and social. Children think life is as easy as walking down the yellow brick road. You cannot let this continue with your child. The first reason this is the most narcissistic generation we have ever seen is that these kids think life is a breeze and they can just stroll through it. This is because they are not taught early on enough that this is not ok and they should wake up now before it is too late. Some evidence for this is in an article written by Wendy Squires, titled Is this the most narcissistic generation we ve ever seen? , said, They re the work experience kids expecting to go straight to the corner office. ..... One of the main reasons the number has lower is because anyone who spoke the language from 1916 to the 1960s was punished for speaking it or learning it. Achebe contrasts the success of Okonkwo with his father Unoka, who serves as an example of failure to conform to the Ibo society s expectations. Achebe evaluates this through the characterisation of both Unoka and Okonkwo, When Unoka died, he had taken no title and was heavily in debt. Any wonder then that his son Okonkwo was ashamed of him? The rhetorical question revealing Okonkwo s shame for his father s lowly status prove Unoka s position as the antithesis of success in the Ibo society. His contemptible circumstances serve as an example to others in the clan of what to strive against; the reverse effect of Okonkwo s persona. Okonkwo and Unoka are consistently depicted as opposites by Achebe, serving as examples of success and failure within the Ibo society. Their differing positions within their clan outline the traits the Ibo society value within the individual. It is from these values that the Ibo people derive their societal expectations, which in turn act as guidelines for behaviour within their society, contributing to their continued stability. • 33. Overview of Scientific Management Scientific Management Frederick Taylor is the originator of the system labeled scientific management. In his book, The Principles of Scientific Management (1911) Taylor examines the struggle between management and labor for the control of production. To control production, he developed techniques for the measure and design of machining methods as part of a general plan for increasing the planning functions of management. Taylor s fundamental concept and guiding principle was to design a production system that would involve both men and machines and that would be as efficient as a well designed, well oiled machine. Time studies were used to allow management to take control of the operations, thereby controlling production methods, and, by default, production. This system required that management take an active role in the factory and through engineers and salaried foremen take greater control over operations (Backer, 1998). Taylor developed his principles of management while a machinist and foreman at the Midvale Steel Company of Philadelphia. Taylor was bothered by, what was called worker soldiering, the practice of purposely stalling or slowing down work by the workers. Taylor believed that the objective of workers when they stalled was to keep their employers ignorant of how fast work can be done. Taylor believed the principal object of management should be to secure the maximum prosperity for the employer along with the maximum prosperity for employees. He asserted ... Importance Of Internet And Online Marketing Section 2 Literature review The purpose of literature review is to find what literature has to offer on how retailers in New Zealand and Australia use internet and online marketing to do business, and the barriers they face in doing so. It would also look into the way retailers retain their customers. 2.1 Importance of internet and online marketing to business Before one proceeds to explore the importance of internet and online marketing to business, it is important to understand how well New Zealand is connected with internet. New Zealand is in a very comfortable position to benefit from internet use. The physical internet infrastructure is growing and Government s ultra fast broadband and rural broadband programmes have made sure that high speed internet is available throughout the country. This could potentially lead New Zealand to have the best network infrastructure in the world, as evidenced by the use of internet by businesses throughout the country (Adams, 2013). Ninety six percent (96%) of firms are connected with internet. The economic performances of these firms depend on how well they use it. Apart from the availability of internet, it is vital to note the way businesses use internet by to improve the way they do business. The Oil Sands are underground deposits made up of a mixture of sand, water, clay, and bitumen (1). The oil extracted from these reserves in Alberta is an integral source of energy used by Canadians on a daily basis, from transportation to heating. The oil sands are also a major host for jobs not only for the locals in Alberta, but also for all Canadians. Even with such apparent benefits, there are many who... America has been able to keep with Saudi Arabia s absurd production of crude oil, causing the price of crude oil to drop. This constant production of crude oil has brought prices to fall below $40 USD, causing many energy firms in Alberta to make staff and budget cuts. The Alberta oil industry future is grim, as many companies have already reduced spending plans and has predicted that they will be operating 57% less than 2014. This tremendous hit to the Oil industry has caused tremors in all other aspects of the economy as the unemployment rate, immigration rate, and the real estate market worsens. Operation Overlord, also known as D day, needed to go well for the Allies because Germany had the French coast under their own power. The United Kingdom preferred the idea of going to a weaker part of Germany s territory such as Italy. America thought of a better plan; invade directly where Germany was, France. The three big leaders of the Allies (Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin), came to an agreement to invade France directly. They thought that an invasion at France would split the German Army in two parts. The planning for D day took more than two years. As General Dwight D. None of the commanders knew what to do, and did not want to make decisions without consulting Hitler first. Germany had lost a lot of time waiting for Hitler to wake up. When he finally woke up and was made aware of what was going on, he thought it was just a diversionary attack. He told his commanders to be ready for the real one soon. If a country is fighting in a war, they should have their troops ready at a minutes notice. Esther s diligence in her personal business of creating women s underwear connects her with the rest of the cast to create a riveting story full of plot twists. Multiple aspects of the play come together to portray how Ester overcomes social roles on her course to find true love. Given the time of the play and gender of the main character, the reoccurring themes in this play revolve around Esther. Being an African American female in the early 1900 s, times were hard. She had become a very successful seamstress and was able to provide for herself. After many years of hard work, Esther had saved a small fortune in her quilt to build toward her dreams of creating her own beauty salon where African Americans will receive the same level of care as whites. This, along with her other dream of falling in love and getting married, is all she has worked for. Once George, a laborer from overseas who unexpectedly began writing love letters to Ester, had moved in and was looking for work, Esther felt the need to accept the gender roles of time and give up her life savings in order to help George make something of himself. George tore open her quilt without a care for her feelings and was only focused on himself. He then goes to gamble it all away with Mayme, a prostitute who happens to be one of Ester s customers. ... There is advice given and it is up to the judgment of the person to which category they will fall into. There are two ways of living, and based on the person s discernment and ultimate choice to which one they will get to live. He will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad on whom to marry, he will experience physical ailments. If the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he will be rewarded for acting wisely. If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work hard, you will get a fortune (12:27). This passage shows that the repercussions to your decisions can be very bountiful. If you make the right decision to work hard and not be lazy, you will come into wealth and get what you are after in life. Retribution is not an entirely satisfactory term, however, for the English word connotes punishment rather than reward, and immediate rather than gradual consequences . This passage is showing that there is not just consequences, there are rewards for discernment, and God/dess will provide those to you. Again, this Proverb is about choosing which way of life suits you; in all cases, having better judgment and being righteous will always bring you a better life, and be profitable. Proverb 14 continues to address this dualistic approach on advice. Homes are made by the wisdom of women, but are destroyed by foolishness (14:1). Sometimes mild stressors such as coughing or bending over may cause a fracture of brittle and weakened bones related to osteoporosis. Bone is live tissue that is continuously damaged and repaired. Out with the Old, In With the New Osteoporosis takes place when the removal rate of the old bone tissue is faster than the formation of new bone. Normally in the beginning stages of bone loss there are no symptoms exhibited. When weakness has developed in the bones due to osteoporosis, some signs and symptoms that appear are: height loss, forward bent posture, back pain or fractures that occur easily. Bones are regenerated continuously, the aged bone is destroyed as the new bone is created. As the body ages, and the process of old bones being broken down occurs at a quicker rate than new bone being formed, this process decreases bone mass. The chances of developing osteoporosis is influenced by the amount of bone mass developed in adolescent years. An elevated bone mass at peak level indicates the amount of bone present and indicates that you have less chances to develop osteoporosis with age (Mayo Clinic, 2014). • 52. The Social And Psychological Ramifications Of Obesity Essay Many people struggle with obesity in the United States face on a daily basis. Its effects can be seen in adults and according to the World Health Organization, 25% of U.S. children are overweight or obese (Hill Peters, 1998, p.1371). Obesity disproportionately impacts children, which makes them the fastest growing group in the obese population. These children face many troubles in their schools and communities. The largest struggle is bullying, which is something that can affect them throughout their entire lives. Bullying can also cause other problems, including depression, low self esteem, anxiety, suicidal ideation also known as bully cide , and low quality of life. Children look to their peers for acceptance of their sense of identity, but bullying can create stigmas, causing support and acceptance to fall away. The social and psychological ramifications induced by the bullying victimization process may hinder the social development of overweight and obese youth, because adolescents are extremely reliant on peers for social support, identity, and self esteem (Janssen, 2004, p.1187). Bullying can cause children to feel alone, therefore turning to food as a coping mechanism, which can increase the amount of obesity among children. It is important that children feel accepted and cared for by their peers. Being obese or overweight can lead to a number of medical problems, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome (Gray, 2009, p.721). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
