1. Essay Film
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Essay Film" can be a challenging endeavor, requiring a
nuanced understanding of both film theory and essay writing. The genre itself is inherently
complex, as it blends elements of traditional filmmaking with the reflective and contemplative
qualities of the written essay. This dual nature demands a writer's ability to navigate cinematic
techniques, narrative structures, and the conceptual depth associated with essayistic discourse.
One of the difficulties lies in striking the right balance between analyzing the formal aspects of
the films and delving into the philosophical or intellectual content they convey. The essayist
needs to decipher how the filmmakers use the medium to engage with ideas, express opinions, or
even challenge conventional storytelling conventions. It's a task that demands a keen eye for
detail, a deep understanding of film history, and an ability to articulate thoughts coherently.
Moreover, addressing the evolution of the essay film over time adds another layer of complexity.
Tracing the historical development of this genre requires a comprehensive grasp of various
cinematic movements, cultural contexts, and the influence of technological advancements on
filmmaking.
In addition, since the essay film often blurs the lines between fiction and reality, the essayist
needs to navigate the intricacies of interpretation, acknowledging the subjective nature of
perception and meaning in this genre. This requires a high level of critical thinking and analytical
prowess.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Essay Film" demands more than just a basic
understanding of film and essay writing. It necessitates a deep engagement with the intersection
of these two art forms, a critical examination of the philosophical underpinnings, and an ability
to communicate these insights effectively. For those facing challenges in this endeavor, it's worth
noting that assistance with similar essays and a variety of topics can be sought from professional

4. An Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s Cask Of Amontillado
A symbol in literature is described as a person, place, thing, or event that
figuratively represents or stands for something else (Mays, A12). In the short story
Cask of Amontillado, Edgar Allan Poe uses symbolism to establish the true meaning
of revenge behind this story. In short, this story is based upon an act of revenge
carried out by Montresor over Fortunato. Montresor lures Fortunato into the
catacombs of the Montresors where he carries out his plan of revenge by ultimately
killing Fortunato (Poe, 109). The incorporation of precise decisions on the title, the
characters names and the settings illustrates the profound use of symbolism in Poe s
short story.
To begin, one major symbol incorporated in the Cask of Amontillado is the title
itself. The literal meaning of the title means a casket of wine. Montresor uses
Fortunato s love for wine as an excuse to lure him into his family s catacombs.
Therefore, it can be said that Montresor uses the amontillado as the main contributor
for helping him carry out his revenge. For Montresor, this saying can be used as
symbol to mark his freedom. Throughout the story, he is trying to free himself from
his desire to take revenge on Fortunato. This is revealed when Montresor states, THE
thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured
upon insult I vowed revenge. He continued vouching his commitment of taking
revenge over Fortunato by saying, At length I would be avenged; this was a point

Animal Cruelty is becoming a very large problem that needs to be taken care of.
Animal Cruelty is largely in certain activities , such as circuses, dog shows, dog
fighting, and even zoos. Although people find this to be entertaining, interesting,
and something out of the ordinary, it is still something that is causing harm to
these animals and needs to be stopped. These wild animals are still animals,
animals that have feelings, ones that don t deserve to be tortured. How would you
feel if someone locked you in a cage for the rest of your life, forced you to perform in
front of crowds, whacked you when you weren t doing what you were supposed to,
hit you when you messed up? People watch dog shows/ beauty pageants but don t

People that think these animals were meant to do this kind of stuff, that this is why
they are bred, why they are even here. Even places such as zoos, they consider being
important, even if a lot of us totally disagree on that matter.
Konwiser was a zoo keeper who was killed by a Malayan tiger. This animal was in
confinement, something animals should not be in, especially wild animals. You
never know when one of those animals are going to strike, they are wild animals,
we don t know about the behavior of wild animals as well as we do with animals
that we have as pets. Animals in confinement are like ticking time bombs, Carney
Anna Nasser, a senior counsel with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, told The Post
hours after Konwiser died. (Milian Jorge)
Granted, a lot of these animals are born in captivity and wouldn t be able to
survive on their own. That also means that their parents were taken out of the wild
and put into captivity, or that they are breeding these animals. Which is also a very
bad thing for these poor animals. For starters, Hanna said that 98 percent of animals
kept at more than 200 zoos across the United States were born in captivity and
would find it impossible to live on their own. They don t come from the wild, Hanna
said. (Milian

religions, a picture of an overly nice person or group of people all dressed in suits

this is untrue, as a visit to one of the services that the congregation provides.

Some of the beliefs of the church are most like that of most Christian religions with
the exceptions that they do not regard the cross as highly as most
Christians do. The Jehovah s Witness religion believes more in the guidelines of the
Bible.
One of the elder members of the Church was happy to answer some questions that I
had. He was an elderly man with a full head of white hair, and a wide unreal smile.
The members of the church were extremely friendly. However, as I talked with him, I
realized that they were not entirely tolerant to the beliefs of others.
On the standards of beliefs on the controversial subjects today such as abortion,
same sex marriages, doctor assisted suicides, and Gay rights, they stand on similar
ground along with other Christian religions. They do not believe in marriages of
the same sex, not in abortions, nor doctor assisted suicides, and the concept of being
gay is considered blasphemous in many parts of the bible as in Corinthians 1:8 and
1:9 so gay rights seems a mockery to the church. Jehovah s Witnesses believe that
Christ/Jesus was the first divine creation of Jehovah/God and that he died on a
torcher stake as ransom for the human race. Similar to the Christian faith, except that
the emphasis on torcher stake was unnerving.
The church views on other

Golding s...
David Malouf s Remembering Babylon and William Golding s The Inheritors both
explore and criticise violent and discriminatory human nature through various
techniques. Remembering Babylon takes place in 19th Century Queensland
following a young British man, Gemmy Fairley, who was thrown overboard a ship
and has grown up with aboriginals for sixteen years, and his relationship with the new
settlers. The Inheritorsfollows a journey of a peaceful Neanderthaltribe who are
slowly facing extinction due to the violent nature of the coexisting humans,
kidnapping and murdering. Both novels have criticised the impacts of humannature,
how humans has developed and detached themselves from nature and been drawn to
violence and discrimination. Malouf and Golding employ a range of literary
techniques to express these ideas.
Malouf and Golding s narrative perspectives vary to portray a unique perspective on
the issues of human nature. Malouf writes in third person omniscient with a narrator,
however changes the focus to specific characters throughout each chapter, becoming
third person limited. This allows readers to understand the mind set of the settlers
surrounding Gemmy s arrival however for the perspective to remain unbiased. This
helps display issues of human nature in an unprejudiced way as Ned Corcoran,
resident of the settlement Gemmy is brought to, thought that Gemmy was trading on
the residents goodwill (39) rather than having a positive influence on the settlement.

9. Andrew Carnegie, Eugene V. Debs, and Horatio Alger Essay
Andrew Carnegie, Eugene V. Debs, and Horatio Alger
During the late nineteenth century rapid industrialization paved the way for extreme
economical wealth of many business. In accordance with the overflowing wealth in
the nineteenth century many individuals held similar but yet contrasting views
toward the wealth that was created in the United States. Among these individuals
were Andrew Carnegie, Eugene V. Debs, and HoratioAlger.
One of the best known philanthropists was the American industrialist Andrew
Carnegie, who devoted the latter part of his life to giving away most of the huge

The doctrine specifically advocates nationalization of natural resources, basic
industries, banking and credit facilities, and public utilities. It places special
emphasis on the nationalization of monopolized branches of industry and trade,
viewing monopolies as inimical to the public welfare. Debs attitudes toward the
wealth that was create was that the government should redistribute it, so that
everyone could be equal economically. Even though this idea may seem absurd it
can be looked upon as an action of Andrew Carnegie in a less radical form.
Washington differed from both Carnegie and Debs but yet still held one similar
aspect that ties him with them. On September 18, 1895, in Atlanta, Georgia,
Washington made his famous compromise speech. In this address he urged blacks to
accept their inferior social position for the present and to strive to raise themselves
through vocational training and economic self reliance. This attitude of able to
achieve economically through hard work contrasts the idea of both Carnegie and
Debs. Carnegie believed in predestined wealth. However Washington s attitude was if
one works hard, one can become rich. It also contrasts Debs attitude because Debs
believed in the redistribution of wealth. However despite theses differences there is
one thing that ties them together: the redistribution of wealth. Washington founded
10. Chemical Relaxing Research Paper
Chemical Relaxing
Chemical relaxing is the process of making curly hair straight. When you relax
curled hair you have to use a type of lotion or cream with a chemical ammonium
thioglycolate that you put all over the hair which is in most relaxing products and it
help relax the curls and straightens the natural curls. Chemical relaxers break your
hair s bonds and reset your hair.
Relaxing your hair can help boost your morale by making unruly, wavy hair easier
to style and wash. However, relaxing can potentially damage your hair. There are
ways to minimize these damaging effects. Chemical straightening or relaxing
treatments work in the same way as a reverse perm. However, instead of using the
solution to curl straight hair, it s used to permanently straighten curly hair. Hair
relaxers are available in two types: lye and no lye.The solution is put on at the scalp,
the hair is pulled straight with a special comb. It s most commonly performed on

The Power of The Judiciary
When the founding fathers of our country, and by that I mean the
Federalists, were creating the system of government for America, they knew that a
separation of power would be necessary to protect the American people from the evils
of a monarchy or dictatorship. In doing this, they created the three branches of
government; Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary. The plan was to have the
Legislative make the laws, Executive enforce the laws, and the
Judiciary interpret the laws, and it was Madison s system of quot;Checks and
Balances quot; that would keep the three in check. No one branch would be able to
exploit it s power without the scrutiny of one of the other ... Show more content on

What Dahl is basically trying to say is that the evolution of the
Supreme Court has made it very involved in decisions concerning important policy
issues of the American political system. When it renders a decision on these policy
issues, it is in fact changing or creating new policy itself. Now to say that the
Supreme Court is only the highest legal institution of the United
States would be doing a it a terrible injustice, not to mention selling it extremely short
on the credit it deserves for the job that it is doing. The
Supreme Court is without a doubt, a very capable and extremely involved branch of
government, equal in power to the Legislative and Executive branch, and well
adapted in the duties involved in the system of quot;Checks and Balances quot; that
the
Federalists established so many years ago.
The founders intentions for the Judiciary Branch was to interpret the laws that the
Legislative made, and the document by which their standards would be set would of
course be the Constitution of the United States. The Supreme
Court would render decisions based on the laws drafted into the Constitutions, and it
would be asked to interpret them to the best of their ability. Because of this
expectation to quot;interpret quot;, the Supreme Court has been allowed to develop

to incorporate source materials into an article, and concludes with how to write a
researched paper. Lunsford begins chapter 37 Conducting Research, with a detailed
explanation of how a writer should startto the research process. First, Lunsford
informs the reader to analyze the research assignment, research a question to answer,
and then to form a hypothesis. Then, Lunsford details how to perform each of these
steps, beginning with the questions a writer need to ask themselves vital to the
research process. These questions include information on the purpose of the research
project, the target audience, and the interests or assumptions of the audience. After
that, the author asks the reader to question their own attitude, feelings, and influences
on the topic. Some other questions Lunsford advises the reader to answer before
beginning a research project include the amount and types of evidence needed to
influence their audience. As well as, questions related to the time and length of the
research project. Next, Lunsford explains to the reader how to formulate a question
and hypothesis for a research project. This process is begun by finding a topic and,

generated. Lunsford recommends that writers also plan out their research

Background: The 2013 WHO guidelines incorporated simplified and more effective
antiretroviral regimens for the purposes of preventing mother to child transmission
of HIV. With ideal implementation of these recommendations, perinatal HIV
transmission could be reduced to less than 2%. However, loss to follow up (LTFU)
has the potential to erode the success of programs and a number of studies report
high rates of LTFU within the prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT)
care cascade. We evaluated the timing and magnitude of LTFU in a large
programmatic PMTCT cohort in Nigeria in order to focus future efforts to reduce
loss in this high burden setting.
Methods: From 2004 2014, the APIN/Harvard PEPFAR program supported antenatal
HIV screening for nearly one million pregnant women and provided PMTCT care to
over 30,000 women. The care cascade for women enrolling in the PMTCT program
includes antenatal, delivery, and infant follow up services through 12 18 months of
life. In this retrospective cohort analysis, we examined data collected between 2004
2014 from 31 clinical sites in Nigeria and assessed the numbers of mothers and
infants enrolled and LTFU at various points along the care cascade.
Results: Among 31,504 women (median age 30, IQR: 27 34) entering PMTCT care
during the antenatal period, 20,679 (66%) completed the entire cascade of services
including antenatal, delivery, and at least one infant follow up visit. The median

18. Literary Devices In Nuns Fret Not At Their Convent s...
Constraints often have negative connotations, however in many situations they can
be comforting and provide people with a direction. Both physical and conceptual
limitations provide comfort especially when they provide a sense of familiarity.
Literary devices such as imagery and irony help to convey this theme throughout the
poem. In Nuns Fret Not at Their Convent s Narrow Room William Wordsworth uses
literary devices, as well as examples of comforting confined spaces, to prove that
having conceptual limitations can be beneficial as well. Wordsworth uses imagery to
convey positive images of confined spaces. The first instance of this is in the
introduction of the poem, Nuns fret not at their convent s narrow room (Wordsworth
78). A nunis not unhappy with her small room because she is able to find peace
there. This is where nuns are able to connect with god. The connections that they
feel there helps to provide them with comfort. Even though it may be a small
room, it is what they are familiar with and have grown accustomed to. Over time
they probably haven t noticed the small space of the convent because it has been
over shadowed by the positive memories formed within the building. Imagery is
used throughout the poem to continually convey the theme. All of the images that
Wordsworth portrays lead to the same conclusion. Each image that Wordsworth
creates in the poem is of a confined space. However, the subject of the image is
never trying to flee from this place. In many instances they are drawn towards
these compact spaces. All because of the same general reasons, it is comfortable,
safe, and familiar. Wordsworth uses bees in the Peak of Furness fells to strengthen
his point. The imagery used by Wordsworth depicts how vast the mountains are,
High as the highest Peak of Furness fells, Will murmur by the hour of the foxglove
bells (79). The Peak of Furness fells is a very large, open, mountain range in
England. There is plenty of open space, so the bee can go anywhere it would like.
However, it chooses the small foxglove bell. This is where the bee is happiest
because it gives the bee the pollen that it needs. The bee will continue to return here
because it has become comfortable with the foxglove bell.

Yet the star of the current work the violinis an instrument he never played or studied
in his life, making the fact he could produce such a technical virtuoso piece all the

It is generally agreed that the seed for Tzygane (meaning gypsy ) was sown on a trip
to London during which Ravel was treated to a private performance of traditional
Hungarian folk music by the accomplished violinist Jelly d ArГЎnyi, grand niece of
the violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim and previous dedicatee of violin sonatas by
BartГіk and Vaughan Williams. Little wonder, then, that the composer dedicated the
resulting work to Ms d ArГЎnyi, who took the lead when the piece premiered in
London to general acclaim.
Written in a single movement lasting around 10 minutes, this concert rhapsody for
violin and piano falls into two broad sections: a cadenza, generally interpreted as a
snapshot of gypsy life, its hardships and passions, hopes and dreams, and a post
cadenza in lighter mood, reflecting the freedom and joy of gypsy culture and dance

Essay
The United Methodist Church s Book of Discipline states, Wesley believed that the
living core of the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture, illuminated by tradition,
vivified in personal experience, and confirmed by reason . This statement outlines the
concept of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. Interestingly, John Wesley never actually used
the term quadrilateral and the American Methodist scholar, Albert C. Outler, who
later stated that he regretted doing so as it has been misconstrued, named it. As for
John Wesley, he was an 18th century British Evangelist who is credited for founding
the Methodist Christian movement. The Wesleyan Quadrilateral provides the format
for an organized study of Theology. The four properties are... Show more content on

It is imperative that we as humans study scripture reasonably and not view it in an
irrational manner. Tradition Tradition is the next aspect of the Quadrilateral.
Wesley recognized that traditions that the biblical followers of God and Christ
developed are of extreme importance and we should embrace, emulate and teach
them to each of our generations. Traditions allow us to remember where we came
from and the heritages that were developed and shaped us. Traditions like baptism
and communion are examples of actionable traditions that keep us aware and
focused on Christ and that He is alive in our hearts and minds. He also realized that
man inspired traditions make the Word of God ineffectual and we should not fall
prey to recognizing them as having merit. Experience Experience is the remaining
and probably most powerful aspect of the Quadrilateral. Wesley believed that our
personal experience with God leads us through life. It confirms God s presence in
our lives and the world through both practical experiences and the presence of the
Holy Spirit in our life. It is to be noted that this is not just any experience that a
person has, but the Christian experience that confirms Christ is now abiding in our
lives. It is the experience of the Holy Spirit and proof of the existence of God that we
are His children. Experience is also

Barriers to Effective Communications
Everyone has experienced, at one time or another the frustration of feeling
misunderstood and being unable to make ourselves understood by another person.
Anything which, blocks the meaning of a communication, is a barrier to
communication. Effective communication is like a house built one block at a time.
First to build a house trust must be built; trust is not a group process it is created in
one to one connections with each individual. Second, be bold and open, better
communications are clear, direct, respect, reflective and frequent. And finally, strive

A misunderstanding between people can quickly erase all trust. Without trust
between people when communication is taking place an individual s defensives
will be up. Being in this defensive state can lead to many conflicts between people.
To be successful in the work place a strong level of trust is required. Trust and
effective communication among workers can determine the success of a corporation.
There are steps individuals can take to reduce the chances that others will become
defensive when they are engaged in conversation. Being encouraging when speaking
with others is important. When talking with others make the point you are trying to
convey with as much sincerity as possible. People don t care how much we know
until they know how much we care. Thinking about what you say before speaking to
others is an effective way to reduce the chances of causing another person to become
defensive. Another positive communication technique is to convey your message to
others in a cheerful tone. By using positive communication techniques individuals can
reduce the instances that cause others to become defensive. These techniques will
create a positive work environment and help a company to be successful. There are
several barriers to effective communication. Another important barrier for
communication is language. There are many different languages in this world. At
work there are CO workers who are bilingual, they can speak

This is a report of my reflection on the court trip that my class, CLU 3M attened on

saw, and my opinion on our judicial system. In this report some of the terms that I
recognized during the trips are bolded, and I have elaborated on the meanings of
the terms. I will conclude this report with my opinion the court process. Brad and I
walked into the provincial court on Wyndham street at approximately 8:40 am.
Provincial courts are the lower courts in the jurisdiction. As soon as I noticed 4
clipboards that had pages with a list of names and timing on them, this was also
referred as a docket. The names were the offenders of the case, and there time
represented their trial time. An offender is the person who had committed the
illegal act. As I walked down the narrow hall I joined in with the rest of the class.
We were sitting in the waiting area, and near the sign that said duty counsel. Duty
counsels are lawyers that can give the accused advise on what they should when
the accused do not have a lawyer. As we waited a lawyer came outside of the office
and yelled, If anybody needs duty counsel . I noticed there were two court rooms,
both had their own dockets. The court room was separated by the waiting area, and
the vending machine. As I waited for Mr. Fast to come, I looked around and saw
some really sketchy looking people, I even recognized two from my elementary
school. There were allot of

Visual Anthropology Dracula and Friends Literary Origins, Cultural Relevance, and
Documentary Techniques in the Cinematic Space of the American Vampire Film
Beginning with a debut in American cinema in 1927 (1), the vampire has enjoyed a
long and illustrious cinematic sojourn that has tracked a number of changes in his or
her appearance, demeanor, personality, style of undeath, and relationship to
humankind. At first an intimate invader, then a source of terror to be loathed and
feared, the vampire has morphed into a rather sympathetic creature, romanticized and
even envisioned as the ultimate lover in modern day film and literature. The
cinematic methods with which the vampire has been depicted, and the light in which
he has been cast are heavily influenced by the political and cultural climate of the age
in which he has been incarnated (2). Moreover, those methods, when viewed through
the anthropological lens, correlate with methods used to create the documentary
space in visual anthropology. In this paper, I will be providing a brief overview of
the vampire s debut in British literature in 1819, and the Orientalist influence that
ultimately led to an inextricable link between the primitive exotic and the lord of
vampires himself, Dracula, in Bram Stoker s 1897 novel. I will then look at the
vampire s presence in American cinema, and discuss a few culturally relevant
reasons for the vampire s journey from admired companion, to feared
26. The Importance Of Body Positivity
Body Positivity: A Weighty Issue For decades, women had been searching for the
epitome of beauty and perfection, even to the point where they ve dedicated all of
their time and money on products to enhance their appearances. The society s
perception of ideal beauty standards make women feel like they have to look a
certain way in order to blend in, or even to simply make one feel better. Many
females feel pressured to achieve the standards of beauty that society presents to
them in their everyday life. Instead of the media instilling the power to take back
what they have stripped away from women in the first place, the media drowns
women in unhealthy beauty standards. The pervasiveness of unrealistic beauty ideals
is a never ending cycle of unattainability and extreme self consciousness in women.
Advertisements in the media bombard women with products associated with beauty,
fashion, and weight reduction. These advertisements float around in magazines, on
the internet, on television, on billboards, endorsed by celebrities, and even on the
radio (Jeon). Because of how easily these images and comparisons are made
available to us, women now consider these bodies normal and have somehow started
to shun anything that contrasts this norm. As these standards become more prevalent
and more persuasive, so do a number of women with low self worth, eating
disorders, and depression (Dittmar). No one desires to speak up about how eating
disorders often go hand in hand with different

28. Analysis Of The Grizzly Man By Werner Herzog
Grizzly Man
Werner Herzog directed a documentary film called Grizzly Man to show viewers how
much interest Timothy Treadwell demonstrated towards human nature and how he
demonstrates human nature through himself. Timothy Treadwell spent thirteen long
summers in Alaskan Peninsula. He went to go portray his love and protection to the
wild life and grizzly bears, which lead him to his miserable death. Herzog creates a
sequence of scenes, comments, and interviews from people who is well connected
directly or indirectly with Treadwell. His purpose of directing the Grizzly Man
documentary through Treadwell s own film was to convey the viewers the
difference of human beings and the wild life animals. Herzog s main effective
argument was to convey how courageous and how insane Treadwell was to spend
thirteen summers in the wild life of grizzly bears. Werner Herzog created this
documentary of Treadwell s films because he was not your ordinary type of guy. He
was very bold, brave, adventurous. Herzog introduces Treadwell with one of
Treadwell s shots that he films during his grizzly bear journey. Treadwell states,
I m out in the prime of big green. Behind me are Ed and Rowdy, members of an up

32. Individualism Vs Collectivism
When introduced to the concept of individualism, it is obvious by the name
collectivism would be the polar opposite of such a philosophy. Collectivism is
essentially the concept people should be viewed as a collective rather than
individuals, hence the name. Collectivism is the root of what most citizens deem
to be a corrupt government. The idea can be summed up in Black Sabbath s song
War Pigs, in which lead singer John Ozzy Osbourne exclaims in reference to the
government, treating people just like pawns in chess . Governments opting to go
the route of a collective view of their population tend to be indifferent to the
struggles of their people, often seeing them as ants, or as Geezer Butler (Sabbath s
main lyricist) puts it, pawns in chess. Whereas a nation would be viewed as
millions, or perhaps billions, of individuals according to individualism, they are
seen as possessing one collective body in the case of collectivism. Citizens are no
more than statistics on a page (or in today s case, on a screen) to the governing
bodies conforming to collectivism, and as such are no longer human beings whose
feelings and opinions matter. Rather that accepting a mob rules mentality, these
governments choose to manipulate the people to be the collective they want them to
be. A worthy modern example would be North Korea, in which Kim Jong Un sees
his people as a wave of biological matter. North Koreans are forced to wear certain
clothes, have certain haircuts, and essentially

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Have you ever heard of this famous quote?
This quote is about Christopher Columbus and his discovery of the Americas. On the
first Monday in October, we celebrate Columbus Day, based on the belief that he
discovered the Americas. One might conclude that Christopher Columbus did not
discover the Americas because the Native Americans, Vikings, and Phoenicians had
already set foot there. First of all, when Christopher Columbusset foot in the
Americas, he encountered a large group of Native Americans that had already
inhabited it. This group of Native Americans was called the Taino. The Taino were
the most native people who inhabited the Caribbean. They occupied what are now the
Caribbean Islands of the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cuba,
Puerto Rico, and Haiti. When Christopher Columbus confronted the Taino, he
characterized them as naked as the day they were born. By 1550, close to all the
Taino population was wiped out due to disease spread to the Americas by Spaniards.
Furthermore, the Taino lived a prosperous life before English settlers arrived there.
According to myLOC.gov, the Taino had complex hierarchical religious, political,
and social systems. As excellent farmers and navigators, the Taino created poetry,
music, and powerful, symbolic objects. As I stated above, the Taino eventually was
almost destroyed by foreign diseases. Even though this had happened, the religions,

The Importance of Thrasymachus in Plato s Republic
Dr. Malters s comments: This student does two things quite remarkable for an

understanding of complex perspectives on justice put forth by the protagonist
Socrates, he deftly explains how Plato has artfully made rude objections by a
seemingly minor character early in the dialogue function as a structuring device for
nearly all the important ideas examined thereafter.

Though defeated on this point, he s not yet satisfied with Socrates argument, and
sticks by one of his previously stated views which held that injustice is more
profitable than justice. However, he shrinks back and seems no longer able to

withdrawal from the argument throughout the rest of the Republic, his early ideas
help lead Socrates farther on his search for justice through the construction of a
hypothetical just city. In describing the education of the guardians of this city,
Socrates discusses the need for a balance between gymnastics and poetry. He relates
how too much gymnastics lead the spirited part of someone to be overtightened and

soul that Socrates goes on to describe. On examining Thrasymachus idea that it pays
to be perfectly unjust, Socrates refutes this argument in Book 4 as he speaks of the
souls three parts; wisdom, spirit, and desire. The civil war between these three parts
is shown to be the cause of injustice, but before Socrates can correlate this with the

36. Complications In The Homeric Hymn To Apollo And
Aphrodite
Both homeric hymns to Apollo and Aphrodite feature classic mythology that explains
various situations between the god and goddess and the mortals. In particular how
each god and goddess eludes mortals into behavior that both favors each party and a
has negative consequences. Apollo and Aphrodite have similarities and differences in
which they manipulate the humans in the stories that lead to very different
outcomes. A similarity between the manipulation on apollos and aphrodite s part is
that they each have a clear motive before there actions begin and some differences are
that they have very different intentions and methods of the manipulation.
A Similarity of both Apollo and Aphrodite manipulation is the revelations of the
motives are revealed before their actions take place. In the first Homeric Hymn to
Aphrodite, the story describes the beautiful, virgin goddess who falls in love with the
mortal, Anchises. Aphrodite eludes the most powerful Greek god Zeusand in
retaliation, Zeus forces aphrodite to have sex with a mortal. Aphrodite intentions
are made clear before any actions take place and is described, And when she saw
him, Aphrodite, lover of laughter, she loved him, and a terrifying desire seized her
heart (Aphrodite 87 88). Comparing this hymn to the second Homeric Hymn to
apollo, the story has similarities. For example, Apollo also reveals his intentions
before manipulating the cretan Sailors, Apollo thought over in his heart who the
priests should be that he would bring in to serve him in rocky Pytho. And while he
was thinking about it, he spotted a fast ship on the wine sea, (Pythian 173). He
describes the ship to be the one carrying the sailors and how he decided to make them
his priests for his temple in Pytho. This is just one example of how Apollo and
Aphrodite manage the situation between them and the mortals.
In contrast, both Apollo and Aphrodite approach their situation differently. Aphrodite
uses her and Anchises emotions to gain his trust. She eludes him to believe what she
is saying is true and that she is not a goddess but a mortal princess. She lies to him
because she realizes the reservations he has about having relationships with
Immortals. Her long explanation of reasons

Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, and Elizabeth I, Queen of England are well known for
their tremulous relationship, with both queens eager to keep or obtain the English

the chance to abdicate her claim on the throne, yet she refused. This decision, as well
as the evidence gathered in her trial later in life, would be her downfall.
Margaret Tudor, sister to Henry VIII, married James IV, and gave birth to James V,
Mary s father. In Margaret s second marriage, she married the Earl of Angus. Her
grandson through that marriage would later become Mary s second husband and
father to James VI and I, who would sit upon both the Scottish and English thrones.
Her first husband, King Francis II, died only a year after their marriage and she
returned to Scotland a widow, without an heir to succeed him. Henry VIII, after
nullifying his marriage to his first wife Catherine of Aragon, would marry Anne

Another reason as to why the ancient games are regarded highly is because Persian
king Xerxes, on hearing that Olympia awarded only wreath prizes, marveled that
Greeks competed not for material reward, but only for honor (Kyle 34). The
games were often associated with physical effort, fair competition..., and sacred
truce (Callebat 556). The ancient games were meant to create a sense of peace for
festivities dedicated to their gods. To do something underhanded was not
justifiable. Ancient Greece was not a unified state at the time of its birth up until
the Macedonia king, Philip the II, conquered it. It was originally split up into
many city states, such as Sparta and Athens, which would fight amongst each
other. At one point, the ancient games existed but it eventually went away due to
all the conflict. However, according to Pausanias, a Greek traveler and geographer,
the ancient games were brought back because Greece was grievously worn [down
from the] internal strife and plague ( DESCRIPTION OF GREECE ). This is
further supported by another Greek lyric poet, Pindar, who wrote under the power
of noble joys, malignant pain is subdued and dies, whenever god sent Fate lifts

these values every day. When I make decisions in my life, I look at these values to
make sure my decisions align with my values. My top three core values are career,
family and friends, and personal growth. Within each core value, there are other
values that I like to consider in my daily life. My first core value is career. I moved
abroad at very young age by myself in order to improve my second language. I
worked hard for two years, started and finished my A.A. with summa cum lauder
status, and I am now working towards my Bachelor in Accounting. All these
decisions were based on my ambition in career. I want to be a recognized

living in this country, I not only proficiency my English as a second language, I
also learned a third language which is Spanish. Within this value, I value
willingness to learn, diligence, and financial independence. My second core value
is family and friends. My family supports my decisions, and this is very important

friends. My friends are my family. Every decision that I make, I try to think: would

40. Hegel s Views On Religion
Religion for Hegel was something that was discussed throughout some of his
different writings, and was something that he had strong views on. It can be argued
that his view on religion in the state for the citizens creates the most liberal society
when comparing with that of Locke or Hobbes for those who desire to practice their
faith. He gives the choice to be involved in religion, or not, and shows how religion
can benefit the functioning of civil society.
Hegel s views on religion in the state cannot be sufficiently aligned with that of
Hobbes or Locke, and Hegel s views are very much his own. In a sense, he
combines elements of both of these two writers, and takes aspects that make it
difficult to draw a final conclusion that his ideas are more like one than the other.
Hegel s views on religion in relation to politics greatly differ from that of Hobbes
and Locke, but he believes that religion can play a vital role in creating ethical
political communities. Practicing your faith can provide information on morals to
live by, ad create a stronger society.
Hegel believed that Christianity is able to become a public religion that all citizens
can become a part of. He thinks this religion is important because it aligns itself
closely with his views on the way of living an ethical life, and he believed that you
can only become ethical by having this religious support and faith in something.
Christianity can be argued to be a religion of Sittlichkeit. This religion ultimately
41. Arrhythmias
An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat. The muscle either beats too quickly (called
a tachycardia) or too slowly (bradycardia). When the disorder is mild, it usually
poses few problems. When it is severe, it can be fatal.
Arrhythmias are categorized based on whether they affect the atria (two top
chambers) or ventricles (two bottom chambers), and whether they quicken or slow
the patient s heartbeat. These circumstances occur due to a disruption in the heart s
electrical system. Normally, electrical impulses spread across the chambers in a
uniform pattern, causing them to contract. Each impulse generates a single heartbeat.
An arrhythmia interrupts these impulses, causing a change in the heart s rhythm.
In this article, we ll provide an overview of the main types of cardiac arrhythmias. ...

This form of arrhythmia is known simply as a premature beat. They are referred to as
premature atrial contractions (PACs) when they affect the atria, and premature
ventricular contractions when they affect the ventricles. In most cases, they cause no
problems. Few patients even realize they have them.
Methods Used To Treat Arrhythmias
A mild arrhythmia may require no treatment, though your doctor will want to monitor
the condition periodically to make sure it doesn t worsen. When treatment is given, it
is usually in the form of drugs, surgery, or one of many nonsurgical procedures.
Medications include blood thinners (warfarin or heparin) to prevent clotting, along
with beta blockers and calcium channel blockers. These latter two classes of
medications are given to slow the patient s heart rhythm; they are often used to treat
a fib or v fib.
When an arrhythmia has been caused by an obstruction in the coronary arteries, a
coronary artery bypass graft may be done to restore blood flow. With a fib, surgeons
may also recommend an operation called the maze procedure, which reroutes the
heart s electrical impulses along a defined

Pygmalion and Stoppard s Arcadia, but differs in the motive seeking education,
where one is to improve one s social class and life and another is due to curiosity and
fascination, respectively. In both texts, knowledge and educationadvanced the
character s life quality to a certain limit. In Pygmalion, Eliza, a girl with no manners
who seemingly lives on the streets seeks education in the means of language and
manners in order to sell flowers at a flower shop. In Arcadia, Thomasina, on the
other hand, seeks education in the pursuit of curiosity. Both texts depict knowledge
as a passageway for a betterlife but then show that it is how one utilizes the education
and knowledge that determines one s quality and satisfaction with life.
Education in Pygmalion is depicted as a stepping stone into a better life, but it is
how one puts one s knowledge to use that determines their satisfaction with life. The
main message of Pygmalion is appearances can be deceiving. Higgins, a high middle
class man who studies phonetics the science of speech with a proper education,
conveys a persona of being cold, stern, proper, conventional, and intellectual. Eliza, on
the other hand, grew up on the streets, which resulted in her hideous accent. She was

44. Toilet Training Research Paper
Toilet Training for Individuals with Disabilities
Being toilet trained is an extremely necessary skill to make it through our day to
day lives. It is something that seems so natural to us that we have forgotten that at
one point in our lives we did not have this skill. Someone had to teach it to us.
Unfortunately there is a large population of people with disabilities that have not
mastered this skill and require the constant aid of others to go to the bathroom.
Being independent in the bathroom is a major skill that can affect a child s entire
outlook on their lives. While being toilet trained may not seem like a big deal, having
to constantly rely on someone else to do every movement necessary to use the
bathroom can become extremely frustrating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There have been many studies conducted on the effects of using this model and
modified versions of this model to teach children with developmental disabilities to be
toilet trained. However as stated in the previous literature there are not many studies
on the prerequisite skills needed to engage in going to the bathroom or the
effectiveness of these interventions with children diagnosed with autism. Further
research is needed in this subject. My research question for this topic is to see if
combining Azrin and Foxx (1971, 1974) intensive toilet training model with teaching
the prerequisite skills for using the bathroom (i.e., unbuttoning pants, pulling up and
down pants and underwear, etc.) would be effective in teaching a child with autism to
be toilet
45. Civil Rights And Social Equality
Civil Rights is the rights of citizens political and social freedom and equality. In
history we learned about civil rights movements that have went on throughout the
years. There was Civil Rights act of 1968, Civil Rights act of 1964, and Civil
Rights act of 1965. The civil rights act of 1968 was to enforce the system to the
indians. This also gave everyone an equal opportunity. Civil Rights act of 1965 was
to enforce the right to vote no matter the race. Civil rights act 1964 was about voting
also. WIthin all these acts that went on they were all talking about equality with
white and black citizens. What I do not understand is how white people were born to
have these rights and why the blacks had to fight for them. Like how did the white
