Biology Extended Essay
Crafting a Biology Extended Essay can be an intellectually challenging task that demands a
combination of in-depth knowledge, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. The
process involves delving into complex biological concepts, conducting thorough research, and
presenting a well-structured argument.
One of the primary challenges lies in selecting a suitable and intriguing research question, which
forms the foundation of the entire essay. This necessitates a deep understanding of various
branches within biology, as well as the ability to identify gaps in existing knowledge or areas that
merit further exploration. The chosen question should be sufficiently narrow to allow for an in-
depth analysis, yet broad enough to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic.
Conducting extensive research is another formidable aspect of writing a Biology Extended
Essay. This requires a thorough review of relevant literature, staying abreast of the latest
scientific developments, and possibly even conducting experiments or collecting data. The ability
to critically evaluate sources and synthesize information is crucial in constructing a well-
informed and evidence-based essay.
The challenge further intensifies when it comes to organizing and structuring the essay
effectively. Achieving a balance between scientific rigor and clarity of expression is paramount.
Ensuring a logical flow of ideas, supporting arguments with evidence, and maintaining a
coherent narrative can be demanding tasks that necessitate careful planning and revision.
Additionally, the essay should demonstrate a clear understanding of the scientific method and
ethical considerations. Integrating data analysis, drawing meaningful conclusions, and offering
insights for future research contribute to the overall complexity of the task.
In conclusion, writing a Biology Extended Essay demands not only a solid grasp of biological
concepts but also the ability to navigate the intricacies of scientific research and effective
communication. It is a challenging endeavor that requires dedication, time, and a passion for the
subject matter.

Introduction:
Ambriose ParГ© changed people s ideas about surgery. His contributions to the
field of surgery have inadvertently changed the face of western medicine. ParГ©
was a French barber surgeon who was born on 1510. During the Renaissance,
which was the In his early age, he worked as a barber surgeon and gained a lot of
experience learning how to treat gunshot wounds on soldier in the field. His
discoveries of this new technique were passed down to various surgeons who
followed his work closely. With his help, surgerystarted to become less of a
gruesome act and more of healing method. His work was recognized and appreciated
by the Royal family of France. Soon, ParГ© became the official doctor of the Royal

famous anatomist. After his gained experience, he was appointed field surgeon by
Marshal Rohan, and became surgeon to King Henry II, in 1554 member of the
CollГЁge de St Cosme, and was exempt from taxation (Porter R. 188). As an army
surgeon, ParГ© gained recognition for abandoning several established practices and
introducing more practical alternatives. He found that simply dressed gunshot
wounds heal faster and are less painful than when treated with boiling oil. In the
process, he dispelled the theory that gunshot wounds are poisonous. He contributed
much to the field of medicine by disproving incorrect and superstitious medical
practices, and by increasing the accessibility of medical knowledge by writing in

Sugary Mints History
Have you ever wonder about the facts of the sugary candy called breath mints and the
reason they turn your mouth cold Well this essay is for you. it has what the mint is,
history about mints, type of mint flavors and everything else about mints. I would
recommend reading this because candys cool.

I Love Chick-Fil-A
What makes us tick? The question intrigues me because of the power its answer
holds. On the individual level, the things which we enjoy seem personal and
specific. We proudly pursue our passions publicly in follows on Instagram, retweets
on Twitter, and likes on Facebook while displaying them on t shirts, mugs, and key
chains. These overt expressions of interest are so common that the mere phrase I love
Chick fil A is mundane and unimportant. Of course you love Chick fil A, we say.
Doesn t everyone? However, this question reveals a discrepancy between our identity
as individuals and our ideals within a culture. Although we interpret passions as
unique things to be celebrated, in reality, these interests often reflect common cultural
Katherine Kolcaba s Comfort Theory Of Comfort
The study discussed theoretical concepts such as the interrelation of pain in
palliative care and the nurses perception and orientation to pain throughout the
whole article. However, the study did not state any nursing theories and did not
mention anything about it being related to the research. Upon reading the whole
article, I believe that the concept and approach of this study correlate with
Katharine Kolcaba s theory of comfort. The comfort theory was first developed in
the 1990s and clearly defined comfort as an enhanced feeling of a person s well
being, a sense of being strengthened and is definitely individualized and holistic
(Krinsky, Murillo, Johnson, 2014). Kolcaba believes that comfort is what provides

the response rate of the study was 92.6% where three hundred sixty three out of the

Descriptive Essay About A Organ Concert
At first, I did not know what I was truly getting into with taking this course. I did
not know what type of materials that would be taught because I have never taken a
music class before. Let alone have I ever been to a concert before, on February
18th I went to the Pipe Organ Festival about thirty minutes away from campus.
Since this was my first time going to a professional concert, I did not know what to
expect. The concert was very different than I expected but thankfully I ended up
having a great experience and learned a lot about the organwith listening to the
different organists; Mathew Gerhard, Raina Wood, and Patricia Rozeboom. The first
organistwho presented their talents was Raina Wood, and her song choices were very

Mathew is from Kokomo, Indiana and I thought it was cool to find that out
because that s where I am from as well. I think what drew me to liking him out of
everyone was the song choice, people could sing along, and the crowd was able to
enjoy the sounds of the organ with familiar songs. The first song Mathew played was
The Star Spangled Banner this song was played beautifully on the organ, everyone
in the room stood and it made it feel like we were almost united, even though the
room was full of strangers. It was nice to realize that we all could salute our
country together with just a song, and I think that is very powerful that music is
able to do that. The organist did not use to traditional keys for this song, he used
multiple variations of the keys that kept the crowd intrigued because he was
changing up the sound every so often. The organ was incredibly loud and could put
off such a massive vibration of sound. The next song on this list was the ever so
famous, When She Loved me from Toy Story. This was absolutely my favorite song
played within the whole festival because I was able to relate how the song is
normally sung with how Mathew played the organ and what notes he used to
replicate the calmness of this song. The organist did a great job reflecting the soft and
The Importance of John Adams 1763-1776
The Importance of John Adams 1763 1776 Fear is the foundation of most
governments, (1) quoted by the fearless leader John Adams. John Adams played
significant roles during the years of 1763 through 1776. He was in support of self
governing and independence which caused him to become the leader of the Boston
Massacre. Between 1765 and 1776, Adams s involvement in radical politics ran
apace with the escalation of events. In 1770, he was elected to the Massachusetts
House of Representatives, and he later served as chief legal counsel to the Patriot
faction and wrote several important resolutions for the lower house in its running
battle with Governor Thomas Hutchinson. He also wrote a penetrating essay on the

His work was first published in the Boston Gazette and was published on January 23,
1775. In America, John Adamsworks were published as pamphlets, but in London
they were published in abridged form. His essays were signed Novanglus, and they
were a reply to other essays signed, Massachusettensis. John Adams did not know
who the artist of Massachusettensis was but he had a very strong feeling that it was
Jonathan Sewell, later he discovered that his antagonist was Daniel Leonard. Many
believe that John Adams played a role in the Boston Tea Party, but in actuality he
had nothing to do with the Boston Tea Party, only thing Adams did was approve it.
He felt it had reasonable motives, was very bold, and should be marked as a big
moment in history. Adams believed British wouldn t respect the colonist rights
unless someone forced them. That s how John Adams became one of the four
most important Patriot leaders in Boston. After the Boston Tea Party, King George
III grew highly furious because so much tea was destroyed and he closed the
whole Boston port. Not only did King George III close the port of Boston but he
was so extremely upset that he suspended all town meetings in Massachusetts
colonies and instead of having Boston listed as the capital of Massachusetts, he
made Salem the capital. King George III wanted these new rules to stay enforced
until Boston could find a way to pay back all the tea that they decided

Flat Shot Essay
Groundstrokes can be hit with topspin or flat.
Topspin is when the racket brushes over the top of the ball causing it to spin. This
type of stroke is more accurate but it makes the ball bounce when it hits the surface
which gives the opponent more time to think before deciding on his own shot. The
flat shot however, which is harder to control goes flatter across the net and the court
and has hardly any bounce making it harder for the opponent to return accurately but
it is also a riskier shot.
Sliced forehand and backhand.
This is the opposite of a topspin shot. The ball is hit underneath causing it to have a
backspin effect as it lands on the court and making it a tricky shot to return. It is a
great shot to use to change the pace of the game and to catch an opponent out by
giving them a shot that s hard to reach and has a swerving effect at the end.

It is considered an important weapon of the game. Winning or losing a game can
depend on whether a player dominates the serve or not. Failing to place the serve in
the right place can mean a player gives away free points to his opponent. This is
called committing a double fault. A player has two opportunities per point to
place the ball in the correct area across the net or the other player automatically
receives a point. Having a weak serve that the other player can return too easily,
and aggressively, is also a problem as points will be lost too easily. There are
several types of serves such as topspin, topspin slice, flat, slice, kick and many
others, all which aim to make it difficult, if not impossible, for the receiver to return

The War Of The American War II
World War II is one of the most prolific events in American history. While soldiers
were away on foreign soil, thousands of Americans at home were doing their part as
well. For example many citizens worked in factories across the nation producing the
supplies the military needed to accomplish their goal. When people think of the
places that most frequently furnished these products the common perception is that
most products were manufactured in the northern industrial states, although this is
not always the case. Throughout the war Louisiana played a critical role in
adequately preparing for the war. Andrew Higginshas become famous for his role in
inventing the Higgins s Craft, which played a critical role in the beach landings in...

Louisiana played an important role in nearly every aspect of America s success in
World War II, and likewise, it deserves to be highlighted. The American army lacked
adequate preparation to go to war in 1941, but that soon changed. Nearly half a
million soldiers participated in a series of military maneuvers, or games, across
mostly north Louisiana. Fourteen of the 27 divisions of the army took place in these
events. The Louisiana maneuvers have become one of the largest peacetime military
maneuvers in American history. This practice proved to be important for the army.
Brigadier Raymond H Fleming explained that everything the United States Army
had, except for bullets, would be turned loose in Louisiana. This allowed for the
soldiers, most of them being newly enlisted, to gather wartime experience. Likewise,
not all commands were fully equipped with the latest technology, but through these
games the ill equipped commands were able to see the effectiveness of the new
technology. The soldiers that endured these games went through full paced war like
maneuvers. The Army was divided into two and simulated a mock war between each
other. The two armies went back and forth between over the course of ten days. They
struggled through long hours and simulated combat. Along with the struggle of
Compare And Contrast Coopers Vs Carmack
In retrospect, a number of things are clear about the case:
1.The meeting between the Coopers and Carmack was accidental and not part of the
conspiracy or plan
2.Duncan Cooper had no weapon in his hand at the time of the meeting with Carmack
began
3.Carmack fired the first shots, wounding Robin Cooper
Colonel Cooper supported Taylor against Carmack in the 1906 Senate race and
supported Governor Malcolm Patterson (son of Josiah) in the Democratic Party
primary for the nomination in 1908.
Carmack referred to him during the campaign as baldheaded angel, Dunc Cooper.
Patterson won the nomination as was subsequently elected to a second term, while
Carmack became editor of Luke Lea s newspaper, the Nashville Tennessean.

The trial began on January 20, 1909, not quite three months after the shooting. The
prosecution was led by the flamboyant D.A. General, Jeff McCarn, who was assisted
by Guston T. Fitzhugh.
The defense was led by J.M. Anderson, a former Criminal Court judge, a friend of
J.C. Bradford, and a political supporter of Carmack. Assisted by former Attorney
General W.H. Washington.
In two instances, accepted jurors were removed on the charge of being habitual
drunkards and therefore friendly to the liquor interests
The Tennessean fully publicized these moves along with a story that there were
rumors of the assassination of General McCarn.
The trial was presided over by Judge William M. Hart, a genial, red nosed judge who
seems to have been fair although he allegedly took great care no to be accused of
leniency towards the defendants.
Most damaging witness against the Coopers was Mrs. Eastman, who claimed that
Cooper had stated to Carmack that he had the drop on him and that the first shot had

Analysis Of House Of Scorpions By Nancy Farmer
In the story House of Scorpions, written by Nancy Farmer, the main character is
Matteo Alacran. The main setting is in the future in a new territory between
Mexico and the United States calle Opium. In the beginning of the story, it starts
of in a lab with a bunch of cells. Eventually they all die, leaving one, who is
believed to now be Matt. The main problem of the book is that Matt is a clone, and
that clones are considered filthy, retched creatures. The solution is that El Patron dies
and now Matt takes his place and is considered a real human. At the end of the story,
Matt is the new Lord of Opium.
Celia is a very caring character in the story. There are three examples of this. First,
she cared for Matt by letting him live in her house. Secondly, she helped him
escape from Rosa. She went to El Patron and had Rosa turned into an eejit. Finally,
she stood up for Matt so he wouldn t have to die for El Patron. She risked her own

Visual Art Reflection Papers
During the short six weeks of Art Therapy class I was surprised on all the positive
things I learned in such short period of time. We covered different modalities in Art
therapy which encouraged participants to be creative and make use of their
imagination. For this intermodal Art experience paper I created a visual art poster
that expressed my current feelings and emotions. I began to look for images that
expressed my personal emotional state; I was surprised with what emerged from
my visual art poster. It illustrated visual images of stress on one side to images of
success on the opposite side. There was so much nonverbal expression in one piece
of visual art, as it spoke for itself without words. As I contemplated the poster and
its messages, I moved to a second modality, in response to the visual art poster I
wrote a poem in response to the Art piece. The poem came about naturally; my
feelings flowed into words which made me feel good about the visual art poster
that I had created. As an inexperienced poetry writer I felt that my poem was not as
good as an experienced poetry writer. However I still tried it, as I began to write I
began to think of what message the visual art poster conveyed to me, including what
emotions it provoked. Several questions came to mind, what were the visual images
on the poster saying about me? And why did I create such piece? Author Malchiodi
(2007) notes that First, art expression is thought to be a form of visual language

12 Hour Shifts in Nursing
7 October 2011 Effects on Nurses Working Long Hours Patients in a hospital and
/or healthcare facilities have to be cared for all day and all night, everyday of the
week by nurses. The usual way to fulfill this need is to divide up the day into three
8 hour shifts. Different shifts have been put into place to help improve nurse
satisfaction, decrease the nursing shortage and save the hospital money. The 24
hour day is made up of two 12 hour shifts; 12 hours in the day and 12 hours at
night. There has been quite an ongoing debate over the years regarding this issue of
nurses working over 8 hours in a single day. Many people, such as hospital nursing
administrators, have reason to believe that working long hour shifts causes more

In addition, during the four days they have off, they may feel weak and dazed so
they will not be able to work a second part time job if wanted or be with their loved
ones. After working that many hours in such a short period of time, they would
need those four days off to compensate for the hard work they just endured. Health
care administrators argue that having only two shifts a day (day and night) will
help improve patient care because there would only be two nurses who would take
care of a patient during a 24 hour shift. But still, it takes more hired nurses to fill a
week s schedule to accommodate each 12 hour shift is covered because a nurse can
only work so many hours in a week. Annette Richardson claims that nurses who work
extended hour shifts will be less productive during the last 2 to 3 hours of their shift.
Signs of nurses being unproductive are; if he/she is taking a longer time to be with a
patient than necessary, not completing patient charts and not being thorough on
reports (Carson, 830). Nursing administration is there to help make patients and
nurses happy and healthy. Health care administration wants the most work
productivity as possible, and with having the last 3 hours of a nurse s shift being
unproductive will diminish that goal. Studies have shown that the most productive
work schedule is working an eight hour shift because it has the least number of errors
Jesus, It s Unimaginable
Jesus, it s unimaginable. All the things they did to you, that we as humankind have
done to you, is completely unimaginable. And yet, it was real. So very real that
hundreds of years later, people still try to depict and tell the age old story of the
creator of the world that put on flesh to come to this mess of an earth and die. They
try to capture the long, painful, sorrowful death, and even with the most modern
technology, no one could ever capture exactly how dark and sacrificial it was. Thank
you, thank you, thank you. There s not much else to say.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the
punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
There is no film that deserves a prayer like The Passion of the Christ. It s the type of
film that makes you wonder if you know how to pray anymore. The most difficult
thing about this film is not that it is full of blood and graphic scenes, but that it truly
cannot accurately depict how harsh and difficult Jesus death was. After all of these
years, with movies screens and computers, amazing actors and directors, it still isn t
enough. The film is beautifully arranged unlike any other film about Jesus life. When
the director, Mel Gibson, set about to put together this movie, he did it with the
intention of showing you, to the best of his ability, about Jesus death. Many films
focus on the miracles, the life, the ministry, and many other things.

Alexander the Great s Determination
After the death of King Darius III, Alexander began to introduce his Policy of
Fusion . He believed that if the two traditions (Macedonian and Persian) could be
blended and assimilated , his authority would be more securely established and
would rest on good will rather than on force, according to ancient historian Plutarch.
This tell us that Alexander did not want to destroy the Persia that Darius and his
ancestors had set up and replace it with a Macedonian ruling. Quoting Plutarch, He
understood that the sharing of race and customs is a great step towards the softening
of men s heart . Alexander knew that if he were to change Persia to a Macedonian
ruling, the Persians would not have obeyed nor trusted him. He instead opted to...

In the year 224 BC, a mass wedding was held in Susa. Alexander had arranged for
himself to marry Barsine, Darius s eldest daughter, and another one, Parysatis, the
daughter of Ochus. In addition, he gave his companions the daughters of the most
notable Medes and Persians [Arrian] summing up to 80 weddings in total, all of
which the weddings were celebrated in Persian fashion. The wedding established
Alexander as the Great King of both Macedonia and Persia as he could now claim
to be the son and heir of both previous Persian kings. It also signified the transfer of
power to the Macedonians through the marriage to leading Persian women. Much
like his successors, the children of these marriages were to be taught Greek and
trained in Macedonian customs and have the added advantage of mixed parentage.
According to J.R Hamilton, the Susa wedding brought to a climax his policy of
fusing Macadeonians and Persians into a single race . This is no doubt an example
of Alexander s strong determination of combining both traditions. However, upon
Alexander s death, all the men divorced their wives with the exception of
Hephaestion (who died eight months prior to Alexander) and Seleucus. This showed
how much Alexander s men disliked his

to find measurements dealing with different instruments such as a ruler, caliper,

Vernier Caliper
10 N Spring Scale
Procedures: Step one: The experimenters used the vernier caliper to measure the
height of a 100 g mass(from the mass set).
Step two: They recorded the height on the table and included an uncertainty.
Step three: The experimenters repeated the process to measure the diameter of the

Step four: The experimenters calibrated the 10 N spring scale, and confirmed the
mass of 100 g mass.
Step five: Then they recorded the mass and uncertainty onto the table.
Step six: After this, they used the equation, Density = Mass/Volume, to find the
density of the 100 g mass and recorded it onto the table.

Mighty Oak Trees Research Paper
Among other names, like their latin names and the regular name( Oaks), mighty oaks
are a haven for many organisms. Those organisms include: squirrels, raccoons,
spiders, black bears, mountain lions, and bobcats. I m going to talk about the
relationships between these animals and the things that happen during the mighty oak
s life span.
Red squirrels are an important part of the ecosystem in which the oak lives. They
are important because they eat off the oak trees. That is important because the soil
is fertilized from the squirrel poop, which helps the trees. The trees are also not
harmed because the acorns that they eat are the fruit of the tree. The trees also gave
them a place to live. They raise their babies in the tree, and hide from
Analysis Of Out Of The Dust By Warren Hesse
Have you ever felt dust or sand in your teeth, people had to deal with this every day.
In the book out of the dust by Warren Hesse, she talks about how people struggled

One struggle that she faced was when my died and she was left alone with her dad

Canada s Initial Reception Of Chinese Immigrants
Chapter Four: Canada s Initial Reception of Chinese Immigrants
Contrary to the United States initial warm welcome to Chinese immigrants, Canada
began their era of peak Chinese immigration with hostility. One large factor in why
this occurred can be found in the time frame of peak Chinese immigration to Canada
which was after the United States enacted their Chinese Exclusion Act (1882) which
effectively prevented almost all new Chinese immigrants from entering the US for the
following decade. Because of that newfound barrier, Chinese that still wanted to come
to North America to take advantage of economic opportunities found themselves
purchasing tickets to British Columbia, Canada. However, sentiments towards
Chinese in 1880s western Canada were analogous to those present in the United
States; those which led to the enactment of America s Chinese Exclusion Act. As
Chinese populations in California continued to grow, Americans found that the
Chinese began making economic conditions less than ideal for white laborers which
later started social uproar in the latter half of the 19th century. Because Canada is
directly adjacent to the United States, Canadians witnessed the economic woes of
native born laborers along the west coast. As a result, they became increasingly wary
of Chinese currently in or the increasing number now entering Canada. Between
January 1881 and October 1884, approximately 17,00 Chinese entered Canada. A
Canadian fear of succumbing to the same economic
A Doll s House Gender
One of Henrik Ibsen s most memorable yet controversial plays, A Doll s House,
performed in the late 1870s, was undoubtedly a daring defiance of the cultural norms
of the time. (Safak, 2014). Ibsen s strong belief in equality within marriage is
reflected in his play through the way in which he satirizes patriarchal ideologies that
were embedded in the roots of many households in 19th century Norway(Kiziltas,
2014). Translated in 1889 by William Archer, A Doll s House is set in the home of
the Helmer family in an anonymous Norwegian town; the setting particularly reflects
the hyper repressed Norwegian society in which stereotypical genderdivisions of a
submissive womanand a dominant husband in a marriage were entrenched. The
protagonists,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ibsen uses stage directions on a visual and aural level within A Doll s House to
expose the marital discord between Nora and Torvald Helmer in a patriarchal society.
This can be seen through Nora s isolation within the relationship, the emotional and
physical disconnection between the protagonists and the patronising nature of
Torvald as he asserts his dominance.
Ibsen uses the visual and aural stage directions in order to demonstrate the restricted
freedom of Nora within her marriage, and by extension the restriction of women who
were expected to uptake a submissive role in comparison to their husbands. Nora s
confinement is evident through the level of sound associated with her dialogue, the
isolation within which she practices the Tarantella and her visual abandonment on the
stage. The playwright manipulates the auditory sounds associated with Nora s
dialogue to allow the audience to see the level of suppression present not just in her
marriage, but even in her dialogue. The adjectival language associated with the aural
stage directions shows Nora smil(ing) in quiet satisfaction (Ibsen, 7) and her
suppressed cry (Ibsen, 46), immediately
Mtv Networks And The Middle East
Abstract
Since 1981, MTV Networks (MTVN) has developed a reputation for its ability to
provide localized content without compromising the MTV culture. However, the
company faced challenges in late 2007 with its launch of MTV Arabia in the Middle
East, making it one of the biggest launches in channel history. While the market in the
Middle East offered MTV with lucrative business opportunities, the networks
controversial content could potentially backfire in the conservative environment
prevalent in the region. On the other hand, too much localization to suit the tastes of
the region could dilute MTV s global brand.
This paper will discuss MTVN s challenges, strategy and effectiveness in expanding
in the Middle East.
Introduction
With a growing gross domestic product (GDP) of Arabia, suggesting a lucrative
market, MTVN joined forces with the largest media group in the UAE, Arabia
Media Group, to launch the Arabic version of MTV as MTV Arabia in 2007.
MTVN would be set to compete with approximately 370 other 24 hour free satellite
channels in the growing market of $3 billion.
Before launching, MTV needed to understand the cultural profile of the Arab world
one that consists of over 20 countries stretching from Morocco, across Northern
Africa, to the Persian Gulf. These countries are religiously and ethnically diverse with
a multitude of ethnic, religious and linguistic groups. To be an Arab is a cultural trait
rather than a racial one and Arab history and culture are based

Telemedicine Improving Quality of Care in Obstetrics
When a woman finds out that she is pregnant she becomes overwhelmed with
emotions, worries and a busy schedule compiled with numerous doctor visits. As a
working mother to be it can be hard to find time off of work to make it to and from
every appointment, especially when appointments are once a month. This is just for a
woman with a healthy pregnancy, with no complications. A low risk obstetric patient
usually has 12 14 prenatal visits, depending on when they start their prenatal care and
when they deliver. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists

It also allows the patient the opportunity to ask the physician about any questions or
concerns she may have, at the same time, the physician can talk to the patient asking
her any additional information that may be needed. Through telemedicine, the
physician can review the digital ultrasound in real time on the monitor and can
direct the sonographer to obtain additional views or to capture a specific image, if
needed. These live scans allow the physician and patient to view the image together
and discuss any concerns that may arise. Other specialists will be able to join in on
the video conference if needed, such as a diabetic educator and genetic counselor.
Many women are diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus during pregnancy.
Pregnancy complicated with GDM is accompanied by risks of adverse maternal
and fetal outcomes including preeclampsia, cesarean delivery, excessive fetal
growth, and shoulder dystocia (Harrison et al., 2016, p. 351). Because of these
risks these women need to be followed closely and counseled on how to achieve
and maintain glycemic control. This is done by providing patient education, lifestyle
modifications, glucose monitoring, and use of insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents
when indicated (Harrison et al., p. 351). All of this can lead to an increase in office
visits for these individuals. In a

the 60 s wasn t as sophisticated and engaging as it is today. For your information,
media literacy doesn t only mean reading and writing. From photography to video
games is considered media literacy. In the 60s people did not have the same type of
literacy we have today. Technology has improved and evolved throughout the years
allowing for us to use other mediums to communicate and send messages. During
the 60s the type of media available were primarily newspapers and magazines and
television. People spent less time watching TV in the 60 s then people today,

However, Kennedy was cautious, concerned that the size of the operation would
threaten his ability to deny U.S. involvement with the exile brigade. He became
increasingly worried that the role of the U.S. in the operation could no longer be
concealed.
Although Eisenhower, Kennedy and other high ranking U.S. officials denied any
plans to attack Cuba, on October 31, 1960, Cuban Foreign Minister Raul Roa, in a
session at the U.N. General Assembly, provided details on the recruitment and
training of the Cuban exiles, whom he referred to as mercenaries and
counterrevolutionaries. It was clear to Kennedy that Cuba knew an invasion was
coming. Therefore, he changed the original plan, which called for a daytime
landing at Trinidad, as well as extensive air strikes to weaken Castro s
counteroffensive. Kennedy thought the plan exposed the role of the United States
too openly, and favored a nighttime landing at Bay of Pigs, which offered a suitable
airstrip on the beach from which bombing raids could be operated. Once the bay was
secured, the provisional Cuban government in arms set up by the CIA would be
landed and immediately recognized by the U.S. The new government would request
military support and a new intervention would take place.
However, things did not turn out the way Kennedy hoped them to. On Sunday April
16, a team of frogmen went ashore and set up landing lights to guide the operation.
The
Tudor Hardship
Throughout British history, especially between the time periods 1485 1603,
obtaining the status of a knight and furthermore, being bestowed knightship, was a
great deal of honor. Henry VII was King of England and Lord of Ireland from his
seizing of the crown on August 22 1485 until his coincidental death on the 21 of
April 1509, as the first monarch of the House of Tudor. The Tudor dynasty was a
European house from 1485 until 1603. While knights displayed many positive
attributes, they also faced many hardships being a knight. Hardships are more
commonly known as tests. Tests were effectively used to evaluate a knight s loyalty
to there king. A chivalrous knight was a highly touted individual that proved to be

Furthermore, Gawain directly lies to the king by saying he saw nothing but wind

how well you performed in a specific field. Tests provide a clear insight as to how
well a knight performs. For a knight, tests depict how loyal and trustworthy he is to

dishonor. One example of dishonor comes from Morte d Arthur. Sir Bedivere is

Those winter Sundays illustrates an inspirational picture in the mind of the reader.
A dedicated father who works each day to make his family comfortable, however
they don t value his acts of good will, nor did they give him any credit. Great use of
imagery through out the poem really emphasized Hayden s message. Hayden
recollects memory of this specific Sunday morning. Using the word too suggests
that the father rises early consistently, regardless of what day it is. He dresses in
the severe cold. His hands have cracks as a result of the cold weather and the
grueling work that he does each day. Hayden s father lights the stoves and
chimneys to warm the house up for his family. His striking words make me invoke
thoughts in my mind of this persevering dad up alone wide open to the harsh
elements. This was a great use of imagery. When he noted cracked hands that
ached , this was used to indicate how hard working he was, as well as a symbol for
all the agony and inconvenience he was willing to experience for his family.
Hayden depicted sounds and in addition pictures in the same elucidating way when
he wrote I awoke and heard the cold splintering, breaking. Possibly what Hayden
heard was cracking noises that came from the fire or ice softening off of the
windows. In any case, this decision of imagery is utilized to
Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Archetype Analysis
There are a number of many different archetypes found in works of fiction and
nonfiction that bestow upon the hero his true role in a work of literature. In the
Middle English, chivalric romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain s role
as the hero emboldens as the story describes more and more archetypes of the quest.
The monomyth can be described as the three step process that the hero takes in
completing the quest motif. The basic template is supported by separation, initiation,
and return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth (Campbell 28).
Each of these three categories contain other subcategories, which help understand the
different archetypical situation within the work itself. An understanding of three key
archetypes the magic weapon, the boon, and the unhealable wound reveal the essence
of Gawain s role within the archetypal quest motif.
The magic weapon in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the the green girdle. The
green girdle was bestowed upon Gawain by the host s wife. However, as the story
concludes we soon find out that this young lady ends up being the Green Knight s
wife. The green girdle symbolizes safeness or a value of being safe. Between there
meeting the young lady explains, For whatever Knight is girded with this green
lace, while he bears it knotted about him there is no man under heaven can
overcome him, for he may not be slain for any magic on earth (Weston 31). The
young lady gives Gawain the green girdle after he refuses to take the ring that is
offered to him. Since Gawain fails to exchange the girdle with Bertilak as the terms
of the men s agreement dictate, it also symbolizes Gawain s desperate desire to
survive at the expense of his code of honor. Only after Gawain fails the Green Knight
s test does this meaning become clear to him.
With the power of the green girdle by his side and his mind set forth on his destiny,
Gawain heads out with the guide to find the Green Knight. About half way through
the ride the guide asks Gawain whether he would decide to slide out of his scenario
with the Green Knight. As they reach the border of the forest, the guide promises not
to tell anyone if Gawain decides to give up the quest. Gawain refuses, determined to

Paul S. Martin, Twilight of the Mammoths: Ice Age Extinctions and the Rewilding of
America, University of California Press, 2005, Prologue and Chapter 2
Summary
The overkill hypothesis stresses the fact that people were the main technicians behind
the late pleistocene extinction of fauna in Northern Eurasia and North and South
America. Paul Martin of the University of Arizona and others see a subsequent and
spontaneous connection between the presence of people and the vanishing of
numerous species of large mammals. According to the overkill hypothesis, the spread
of humanity correlates to the extinction of mammals at the same precise location they
migrated to. The humans got to be big game ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The probability regarding the whole idea of climatic change as a main thrust in the
ancient extinctions may have been false. The extinctions of the late Pleistocene
happened moderately quickly, inside of a couple of thousand years. Moreover, there
are not very many kill sites in the archaeological record correlating humans to the lost
fauna. Blitzkrieg is a unique instance of faunal overkill that magnifies speed and
intensity of human impact and minimizes time of overlap between the primary human
intruder and the vanishing of local fauna.
The blitzkrieg model explains the lack of kill sites by reasoning that the extinction
of these animals occurred too rapidly to have left much, if any, evidence. Therefore,
the uniqueness of Homo sapiens in the New World and Australia, coupled with the
lack of kill sites in the archaeological record, can be taken as evidence of blitzkrieg
human overkill causing the late Pleistocene extinctions. (Gibbons Robin)
Critique
The overkill thesis may be after all a bogus clarification of the late pleistocene
extinction with humans as the main driving force behind it, namely due to excessive
over hunting. Two things which may go against Martin s idea of overkill is the
assumption that the animals too small or environmentally
Baseball Is Harder Than Softball
Baseball players have less than 0.40 seconds to defend themselves from a whirling
100 mph ball hit by a 200lbs beast. And take into consideration that if the fielder
takes more than 4.5 seconds to field and throw the ball to first base, then it becomes
impossible for them to throw the runner out. The motor, cognitive, and visual skills
needed to succeed in baseballmay explain why many believe baseball is harder than
softball.
Ever since 1887 when softball first became a sport, individuals compared the two. In
the past, baseball was the most watched sport in the United States, which earned
baseball the nickname of America s Pastime. During that time, individuals did not
take women s athletic abilities seriously, for which no females

Mel cepstral feature extraction technique is required in some or the other form in
most of the latest speech and speaker recognition system. Here, first samples of
speech are splitted into overlapping frames. Generally the length of frame is 25 ms
and frame rate is 10 ms. Each and every frames are refined by pre emphasis filter
which amplifies higher frequencies. Next is to apply windowing so that Fourier
spectrum for each windowing frame is achieved here Hamming window is used.
To obtain vector of log energy, Mel spaced bank of filter is used which varies from
20 to 40 depending upon the requirement of particular application. The output of
which is converted to give cepstral coefficients using DCT. Initially for computing
the feature vector, 12 coefficients are obtained along with one energy make its 13

order differentiation is known as Delta coefficient is denoted by _D which has 13
delta cepstral coefficients. 2Nd order differentiation is known as Acceleration
coefficient is denoted by _A having 13 delta delta coefficients. 3Rd order
differentiation is known as Third order (Triple delta) coefficient is denoted by _T
which again has 13 triple delta coefficients. Its is said that standard MFCC is given
by 39 feature vector and extended is given by 52 standard vector [1]. When training

effects the features.

John Calvin And The Protestant Reformation
Ch. 3: Settling the Northern Colonies (1619 1700)
The Protestant Reformation Produces Puritanism
King Henry VIII led the Protestant Reformation, but John Calvin was the one who
really took protestantism further, which made the English leave England and go to
America. When Martin Luther posted the 95 theses, that led to the protestant
reformation. John Calvin was the leader of Calvinism , which focused on
predestination. Conversion was a religious event that placed you as either and elect
or a
visible saint, and were then expected to lead out their lives as either one.
Separatists were a group of Puritans who left the Church of England.

Hebrew Old Testament Summary
Originally written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Syriac along with other Near Eastern
Semitic languages, translated completely into Hebrew, then into Greek, then into
Latin, English and eventually all modern languages. As a result of the Grecian
Macedonian Empire led by Alexander the Great, in 331BC, who conquered the
Achaemenid Empire and assumed control over the Kingdom of Judah. Consequently,
most of the government officials along with the wealthy and well educated of the
Kingdom of Judah and the Kingdom of Israellearned how to speak and write Greek.
A decision was made by the religious leaders to translate the Hebrew Old Testament
into the Greek language, which became known as the Septuagint or the Septuagint

. The Masoretic Text became one of the first writings of the Old Testament
accomplished by a Jewish sect of scribes, the Masoretes, who lived in cities located
in both the Kingdom of Judah as well as Babylonia. Between 700 to 1000AD, the
Masoretes compiled, wrote, copied and distributed the Masoretic Text with the
oldest complete surviving copy, dated 900AD. Saint Jerome, a priest, theologian
and historian, translated the New Testament from Greek to Latin, from 382 to
384AD, and the Old Testament, from 390 to 405AD, ending with the Latin
Vulgate. This would be the only Holy Bible used by the Catholic Church and later,
in 600AD, the church proclaimed that Latin is the only language spoken when
orally reading the Holy Bible. During his translations he also rearranged the order
of the original Hebrew and Greek texts from 32 books to 39 books. Jerome
accomplished this by dividing Joshua and Judges into two separate books, Samuel
and Kings into 1 and 2 Samuel along with 1 and 2 Kings, Chronicles into 1 and 2
Chronicles. The Book of Chronicles originally one of the last books of the Old
Testament was rearranged along with the books of Ruth, Ezra and
The Awful Possibility of Schools Cutting Athletic Programs...
Schools everywhere give students opportunities to participate in sports by
participating in athletic programs. With budget cuts, the administration is considering
the possibility of eliminating all athletic programs. Admittedly, eliminating all athletic
programs would save Lexington some money, but, on the other hand, it opens up
opportunities for students who might not have a chance elsewhere. In fact, it has
been proven that students who were involved in sports as teenagers are healthier as
adults. Furthermore, school sports help kids bondand, moreover, show school spirit.
The fact remains, athletic programs continuously show improvement in students
more than weaknesses in the school. Athletic programs create opportunities for...

Nobody denies cutting athletic programs will help with budget problems, but if
people, like the First Lady, are saying our country s health is important, then the
administration should create an alternative solution. The children and students in the
world today will define the country in the near future; therefore, eliminating those
athletic programs will cause a devastating blow for the future of America. Moreover,
if Lexington s administration believes in ruining the future of America, then they
should vote to remove school athletic programs. In conclusion, without school athletic
programs, Lexington could ruin students health not only today, but also in the future.
School athletic events have always been a place students can show school spirit and
bond together. First, school athletic events are a place where students come together
and cheer on their school not only to support the team, but also to show other schools
that Lexington Local School is bonded together. An example of this was shown
during a girls soccer OCC tournament; many students came and cheered on the girls
throughout the whole game. Not only did they cheer in the stands, but after the
winning goal was scored during a shoot out the entire student section ran down to the
middle of the field to help Lexington s girls soccer celebrate. In that moment the
students bonded together and showed the other school that Lexington, as a unit, won,
displaying school spirit. Without athletic

The Townshend Acts Kill Two Birds with One Stone Desperately for finding a

duties of 1767, formulated by Charles Townshend, chancellor of the Exchequer. The
Townshend duties were new taxes for the American colonies pay on imported
products: glass, paper, lead, and tea. Charles Townshend persuaded the British
authorities signed the import items with the intention of not only pay the war s bills,
but also increase the British revenue and take back the Parliament s authority over the
American colonies. First, to abate the trafficking by some wealthy colonial merchants

by colonist s leaders in reaction of the British tyranny, in which delegates from
Massachusetts to Virginia colonies united to agree that Parliament had no right to tax

leaders came together with many protests to the overwhelming British taxations and
they rejected British authorities by showing that the government could not claim
authority over colonists
Hurricane Matthew
Hurricanes form over warm, tropical oceans and are very powerful storms. These
type of storms are actually the most violent on the Earth. For example, of these
powerful and destructive storms was Hurricane Matthew. Hurricane Matthew
occurred from September 28th through October 9th, 2016, and affected the Caribbean
and Southeast U.S. Hurricanes, being the powerful and violent storms they are, can
cause lots of destruction to cities, states, and/or countries. To begin with, there are
many causes of hurricanes. Hurricanes are created by thunderstorms gathering
together in a spinning circle (Aboff Sotirovski, 2012). Furthermore, hurricanes need
many ingredients in order to form, such as warm, tropical ocean water and wind. For
instance, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final stage in the development of a hurricane is known as the cyclone or the
hurricane step. The cyclone s winds are now more powerful than ever before in its
earlier stages, at 74 mph and above. The hurricane has also grown in the sense of
height and width, now being around 50,000 feet high, and 125 miles across. In
addition to these lengths, the hurricane s eye is in the range of five and 30 miles
wide. When the hurricane reaches land, it will weaken because it does not have the
necessary ingredients to continue to grow and survive (SciJinks, 2016). For instance,
one of these very powerful and destructive storms formed on September 28th, 2016
near the Windward Islands. Hurricane Matthew left a path of destruction from the
Caribbean to the southeast of the United States of America. Matthew was formed
when a tropical wave was pushed off of the coast of Africa. After going through the
first three stages, the storm known as Matthew developed into a tropical storm, in
which it received a name. Eventually, Tropical Storm Matthew reached the eastern
Caribbean, where it became a hurricane, adjusting its name to Hurricane Matthew.
During the days of September 30th and October 1st, Hurricane Matthew reached its
peak as a Category five hurricane, with winds at

  • 1. Biology Extended Essay Crafting a Biology Extended Essay can be an intellectually challenging task that demands a combination of in-depth knowledge, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. The process involves delving into complex biological concepts, conducting thorough research, and presenting a well-structured argument. One of the primary challenges lies in selecting a suitable and intriguing research question, which forms the foundation of the entire essay. This necessitates a deep understanding of various branches within biology, as well as the ability to identify gaps in existing knowledge or areas that merit further exploration. The chosen question should be sufficiently narrow to allow for an in- depth analysis, yet broad enough to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. Conducting extensive research is another formidable aspect of writing a Biology Extended Essay. This requires a thorough review of relevant literature, staying abreast of the latest scientific developments, and possibly even conducting experiments or collecting data. The ability to critically evaluate sources and synthesize information is crucial in constructing a well- informed and evidence-based essay. The challenge further intensifies when it comes to organizing and structuring the essay effectively. Achieving a balance between scientific rigor and clarity of expression is paramount. Ensuring a logical flow of ideas, supporting arguments with evidence, and maintaining a coherent narrative can be demanding tasks that necessitate careful planning and revision. Additionally, the essay should demonstrate a clear understanding of the scientific method and ethical considerations. Integrating data analysis, drawing meaningful conclusions, and offering insights for future research contribute to the overall complexity of the task. In conclusion, writing a Biology Extended Essay demands not only a solid grasp of biological concepts but also the ability to navigate the intricacies of scientific research and effective communication. As an army surgeon, ParГ© gained recognition for abandoning several established practices and introducing more practical alternatives. He found that simply dressed gunshot wounds heal faster and are less painful than when treated with boiling oil. In the process, he dispelled the theory that gunshot wounds are poisonous. • 4. I Love Chick-Fil-A What makes us tick? The question intrigues me because of the power its answer holds. On the individual level, the things which we enjoy seem personal and specific. We proudly pursue our passions publicly in follows on Instagram, retweets on Twitter, and likes on Facebook while displaying them on t shirts, mugs, and key chains. These overt expressions of interest are so common that the mere phrase I love Chick fil A is mundane and unimportant. Of course you love Chick fil A, we say. Doesn t everyone? However, this question reveals a discrepancy between our identity as individuals and our ideals within a culture. Although we interpret passions as unique things to be celebrated, in reality, these interests often reflect common cultural
  • 5. Katherine Kolcaba s Comfort Theory Of Comfort The study discussed theoretical concepts such as the interrelation of pain in palliative care and the nurses perception and orientation to pain throughout the whole article. However, the study did not state any nursing theories and did not mention anything about it being related to the research. Upon reading the whole article, I believe that the concept and approach of this study correlate with Katharine Kolcaba s theory of comfort. The comfort theory was first developed in the 1990s and clearly defined comfort as an enhanced feeling of a person s well being, a sense of being strengthened and is definitely individualized and holistic (Krinsky, Murillo, Johnson, 2014). Kolcaba believes that comfort is what provides the framework and the core... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Descriptive Essay About A Organ Concert At first, I did not know what I was truly getting into with taking this course. I did not know what type of materials that would be taught because I have never taken a music class before. Let alone have I ever been to a concert before, on February 18th I went to the Pipe Organ Festival about thirty minutes away from campus. Since this was my first time going to a professional concert, I did not know what to expect. The concert was very different than I expected but thankfully I ended up having a great experience and learned a lot about the organwith listening to the different organists; Mathew Gerhard, Raina Wood, and Patricia Rozeboom. Mathew is from Kokomo, Indiana and I thought it was cool to find that out because that s where I am from as well. I think what drew me to liking him out of everyone was the song choice, people could sing along, and the crowd was able to enjoy the sounds of the organ with familiar songs. The first song Mathew played was The Star Spangled Banner this song was played beautifully on the organ, everyone in the room stood and it made it feel like we were almost united, even though the room was full of strangers. It was nice to realize that we all could salute our country together with just a song, and I think that is very powerful that music is able to do that. The organist did not use to traditional keys for this song, he used multiple variations of the keys that kept the crowd intrigued because he was changing up the sound every so often. The organ was incredibly loud and could put off such a massive vibration of sound. The next song on this list was the ever so famous, When She Loved me from Toy Story. This was absolutely my favorite song played within the whole festival because I was able to relate how the song is normally sung with how Mathew played the organ and what notes he used to replicate the calmness of this song. The organist did a great job reflecting the soft and
  • 7. The Importance of John Adams 1763-1776 The Importance of John Adams 1763 1776 Fear is the foundation of most governments, (1) quoted by the fearless leader John Adams. John Adams played significant roles during the years of 1763 through 1776. He was in support of self governing and independence which caused him to become the leader of the Boston Massacre. Between 1765 and 1776, Adams s involvement in radical politics ran apace with the escalation of events. In 1770, he was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and he later served as chief legal counsel to the Patriot faction and wrote several important resolutions for the lower house in its running battle with Governor Thomas Hutchinson. In America, John Adamsworks were published as pamphlets, but in London they were published in abridged form. His essays were signed Novanglus, and they were a reply to other essays signed, Massachusettensis. John Adams did not know who the artist of Massachusettensis was but he had a very strong feeling that it was Jonathan Sewell, later he discovered that his antagonist was Daniel Leonard. Many believe that John Adams played a role in the Boston Tea Party, but in actuality he had nothing to do with the Boston Tea Party, only thing Adams did was approve it. He felt it had reasonable motives, was very bold, and should be marked as a big moment in history. Adams believed British wouldn t respect the colonist rights unless someone forced them. That s how John Adams became one of the four most important Patriot leaders in Boston. After the Boston Tea Party, King George III grew highly furious because so much tea was destroyed and he closed the whole Boston port. Not only did King George III close the port of Boston but he was so extremely upset that he suspended all town meetings in Massachusetts colonies and instead of having Boston listed as the capital of Massachusetts, he made Salem the capital. King George III wanted these new rules to stay enforced until Boston could find a way to pay back all the tea that they decided

  • 9. Flat Shot Essay Groundstrokes can be hit with topspin or flat. Topspin is when the racket brushes over the top of the ball causing it to spin. This type of stroke is more accurate but it makes the ball bounce when it hits the surface which gives the opponent more time to think before deciding on his own shot. The flat shot however, which is harder to control goes flatter across the net and the court and has hardly any bounce making it harder for the opponent to return accurately but it is also a riskier shot. Sliced forehand and backhand. This is the opposite of a topspin shot. The ball is hit underneath causing it to have a backspin effect as it lands on the court and making it a tricky shot to return. It is a great shot to use to change the pace of the game and to catch an opponent out by giving them a shot that s hard to reach and has a swerving effect at the end. Tennis Serve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is considered an important weapon of the game. Winning or losing a game can depend on whether a player dominates the serve or not. Failing to place the serve in the right place can mean a player gives away free points to his opponent. This is called committing a double fault. A player has two opportunities per point to place the ball in the correct area across the net or the other player automatically receives a point. Having a weak serve that the other player can return too easily, and aggressively, is also a problem as points will be lost too easily. There are several types of serves such as topspin, topspin slice, flat, slice, kick and many others, all which aim to make it difficult, if not impossible, for the receiver to return the

While soldiers were away on foreign soil, thousands of Americans at home were doing their part as well. For example many citizens worked in factories across the nation producing the supplies the military needed to accomplish their goal. When people think of the places that most frequently furnished these products the common perception is that most products were manufactured in the northern industrial states, although this is not always the case. Louisiana played an important role in nearly every aspect of America s success in World War II, and likewise, it deserves to be highlighted. The American army lacked adequate preparation to go to war in 1941, but that soon changed. Nearly half a million soldiers participated in a series of military maneuvers, or games, across mostly north Louisiana. Fourteen of the 27 divisions of the army took place in these events. The Louisiana maneuvers have become one of the largest peacetime military maneuvers in American history. This practice proved to be important for the army. Brigadier Raymond H Fleming explained that everything the United States Army had, except for bullets, would be turned loose in Louisiana. This allowed for the soldiers, most of them being newly enlisted, to gather wartime experience. Likewise, not all commands were fully equipped with the latest technology, but through these games the ill equipped commands were able to see the effectiveness of the new technology. The soldiers that endured these games went through full paced war like maneuvers. The Army was divided into two and simulated a mock war between each other. The two armies went back and forth between over the course of ten days. They struggled through long hours and simulated combat. Along with the struggle of

The main setting is in the future in a new territory between Mexico and the United States calle Opium. In the beginning of the story, it starts of in a lab with a bunch of cells. Eventually they all die, leaving one, who is believed to now be Matt. The main problem of the book is that Matt is a clone, and that clones are considered filthy, retched creatures. We covered different modalities in Art therapy which encouraged participants to be creative and make use of their imagination. For this intermodal Art experience paper I created a visual art poster that expressed my current feelings and emotions. I began to look for images that expressed my personal emotional state; I was surprised with what emerged from my visual art poster. It illustrated visual images of stress on one side to images of success on the opposite side. There was so much nonverbal expression in one piece of visual art, as it spoke for itself without words. As I contemplated the poster and its messages, I moved to a second modality, in response to the visual art poster I wrote a poem in response to the Art piece. The poem came about naturally; my feelings flowed into words which made me feel good about the visual art poster that I had created. As an inexperienced poetry writer I felt that my poem was not as good as an experienced poetry writer. However I still tried it, as I began to write I began to think of what message the visual art poster conveyed to me, including what emotions it provoked. Several questions came to mind, what were the visual images on the poster saying about me? And why did I create such piece? Author Malchiodi (2007) notes that First, art expression is thought to be a form of visual language through which

The usual way to fulfill this need is to divide up the day into three 8 hour shifts. Different shifts have been put into place to help improve nurse satisfaction, decrease the nursing shortage and save the hospital money. The 24 hour day is made up of two 12 hour shifts; 12 hours in the day and 12 hours at night. There has been quite an ongoing debate over the years regarding this issue of nurses working over 8 hours in a single day. Many people, such as hospital nursing administrators, have reason to believe that working long hour shifts causes more errors in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, during the four days they have off, they may feel weak and dazed so they will not be able to work a second part time job if wanted or be with their loved ones. After working that many hours in such a short period of time, they would need those four days off to compensate for the hard work they just endured. Health care administrators argue that having only two shifts a day (day and night) will help improve patient care because there would only be two nurses who would take care of a patient during a 24 hour shift. But still, it takes more hired nurses to fill a week s schedule to accommodate each 12 hour shift is covered because a nurse can only work so many hours in a week. Annette Richardson claims that nurses who work extended hour shifts will be less productive during the last 2 to 3 hours of their shift. Signs of nurses being unproductive are; if he/she is taking a longer time to be with a patient than necessary, not completing patient charts and not being thorough on reports (Carson, 830). Nursing administration is there to help make patients and nurses happy and healthy. Health care administration wants the most work productivity as possible, and with having the last 3 hours of a nurse s shift being unproductive will diminish that goal. So very real that hundreds of years later, people still try to depict and tell the age old story of the creator of the world that put on flesh to come to this mess of an earth and die. They try to capture the long, painful, sorrowful death, and even with the most modern technology, no one could ever capture exactly how dark and sacrificial it was. Thank you, thank you, thank you. There s not much else to say. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 There is no film that deserves a prayer like The Passion of the Christ. It s the type of film that makes you wonder if you know how to pray anymore. The most difficult thing about this film is not that it is full of blood and graphic scenes, but that it truly cannot accurately depict how harsh and difficult Jesus death was. After all of these years, with movies screens and computers, amazing actors and directors, it still isn t enough. The film is beautifully arranged unlike any other film about Jesus life. When the director, Mel Gibson, set about to put together this movie, he did it with the intention of showing you, to the best of his ability, about Jesus death. Many films focus on the miracles, the life, the ministry, and many other things.

In addition, he gave his companions the daughters of the most notable Medes and Persians [Arrian] summing up to 80 weddings in total, all of which the weddings were celebrated in Persian fashion. The wedding established Alexander as the Great King of both Macedonia and Persia as he could now claim to be the son and heir of both previous Persian kings. It also signified the transfer of power to the Macedonians through the marriage to leading Persian women. Much like his successors, the children of these marriages were to be taught Greek and trained in Macedonian customs and have the added advantage of mixed parentage. According to J.R Hamilton, the Susa wedding brought to a climax his policy of fusing Macadeonians and Persians into a single race . Canada s Initial Reception Of Chinese Immigrants Chapter Four: Canada s Initial Reception of Chinese Immigrants Contrary to the United States initial warm welcome to Chinese immigrants, Canada began their era of peak Chinese immigration with hostility. One large factor in why this occurred can be found in the time frame of peak Chinese immigration to Canada which was after the United States enacted their Chinese Exclusion Act (1882) which effectively prevented almost all new Chinese immigrants from entering the US for the following decade. Because of that newfound barrier, Chinese that still wanted to come to North America to take advantage of economic opportunities found themselves purchasing tickets to British Columbia, Canada. However, sentiments towards Chinese in 1880s western Canada were analogous to those present in the United States; those which led to the enactment of America s Chinese Exclusion Act. As Chinese populations in California continued to grow, Americans found that the Chinese began making economic conditions less than ideal for white laborers which later started social uproar in the latter half of the 19th century. Because Canada is directly adjacent to the United States, Canadians witnessed the economic woes of native born laborers along the west coast. As a result, they became increasingly wary of Chinese currently in or the increasing number now entering Canada. Between January 1881 and October 1884, approximately 17,00 Chinese entered Canada. (Safak, 2014). Ibsen s strong belief in equality within marriage is reflected in his play through the way in which he satirizes patriarchal ideologies that were embedded in the roots of many households in 19th century Norway(Kiziltas, 2014). The protagonists,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ibsen uses stage directions on a visual and aural level within A Doll s House to expose the marital discord between Nora and Torvald Helmer in a patriarchal society. This can be seen through Nora s isolation within the relationship, the emotional and physical disconnection between the protagonists and the patronising nature of Torvald as he asserts his dominance. Ibsen uses the visual and aural stage directions in order to demonstrate the restricted freedom of Nora within her marriage, and by extension the restriction of women who were expected to uptake a submissive role in comparison to their husbands. Nora s confinement is evident through the level of sound associated with her dialogue, the isolation within which she practices the Tarantella and her visual abandonment on the stage. The playwright manipulates the auditory sounds associated with Nora s dialogue to allow the audience to see the level of suppression present not just in her marriage, but even in her dialogue. The adjectival language associated with the aural stage directions shows Nora smil(ing) in quiet satisfaction (Ibsen, 7) and her suppressed cry (Ibsen, 46), immediately

While the market in the Middle East offered MTV with lucrative business opportunities, the networks controversial content could potentially backfire in the conservative environment prevalent in the region. On the other hand, too much localization to suit the tastes of the region could dilute MTV s global brand. • 37. Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Archetype Analysis There are a number of many different archetypes found in works of fiction and nonfiction that bestow upon the hero his true role in a work of literature. In the Middle English, chivalric romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain s role as the hero emboldens as the story describes more and more archetypes of the quest. The monomyth can be described as the three step process that the hero takes in completing the quest motif. The basic template is supported by separation, initiation, and return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth (Campbell 28). Each of these three categories contain other subcategories, which help understand the different archetypical situation within the work itself. An understanding of three key archetypes the magic weapon, the boon, and the unhealable wound reveal the essence of Gawain s role within the archetypal quest motif. The magic weapon in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is the the green girdle. The green girdle was bestowed upon Gawain by the host s wife. However, as the story concludes we soon find out that this young lady ends up being the Green Knight s wife. The green girdle symbolizes safeness or a value of being safe. Between there meeting the young lady explains, For whatever Knight is girded with this green lace, while he bears it knotted about him there is no man under heaven can overcome him, for he may not be slain for any magic on earth (Weston 31). The young lady gives Gawain the green girdle after he refuses to take the ring that is offered to him. Since Gawain fails to exchange the girdle with Bertilak as the terms of the men s agreement dictate, it also symbolizes Gawain s desperate desire to survive at the expense of his code of honor. Only after Gawain fails the Green Knight s test does this meaning become clear to him. With the power of the green girdle by his side and his mind set forth on his destiny, Gawain heads out with the guide to find the Green Knight. About half way through the ride the guide asks Gawain whether he would decide to slide out of his scenario with the Green Knight. As they reach the border of the forest, the guide promises not to tell anyone if Gawain decides to give up the quest. Gawain refuses, determined to

Paul Martin of the University of Arizona and others see a subsequent and spontaneous connection between the presence of people and the vanishing of numerous species of large mammals. According to the overkill hypothesis, the spread of humanity correlates to the extinction of mammals at the same precise location they migrated to. The humans got to be big game ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The probability regarding the whole idea of climatic change as a main thrust in the ancient extinctions may have been false. The extinctions of the late Pleistocene happened moderately quickly, inside of a couple of thousand years. Moreover, there are not very many kill sites in the archaeological record correlating humans to the lost fauna. Blitzkrieg is a unique instance of faunal overkill that magnifies speed and intensity of human impact and minimizes time of overlap between the primary human intruder and the vanishing of local fauna. The blitzkrieg model explains the lack of kill sites by reasoning that the extinction of these animals occurred too rapidly to have left much, if any, evidence. Therefore, the uniqueness of Homo sapiens in the New World and Australia, coupled with the lack of kill sites in the archaeological record, can be taken as evidence of blitzkrieg human overkill causing the late Pleistocene extinctions. (Gibbons Robin) Critique The overkill thesis may be after all a bogus clarification of the late pleistocene extinction with humans as the main driving force behind it, namely due to excessive over hunting. Two things which may go against Martin s idea of overkill is the assumption that the animals too small or environmentally
