Fairy Tale Analysis
Cinderella, We Know Thee Near and Far
Triumphant reward in spite of unjust punishment is a universal sentiment that
transcends languages and cultures. There are thousands of folktales and fairy tales
that are firmly rooted in individual cultures, yet the tale of Cinderella has been told
through many centuries and throughout the far corners of the world. With
thousands of versions of this classic tale in print worldwide, the tale is believed to
have originated with the story of Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl who is married to an
Egyptian King. The story of Rhodopis, which means rosy cheeks, dates back to 7
BC and is attributed to a Greek geographer named Strabo. The Chinese variation of
this fairy tale is named Yeh hsien. The Chinese version is traceable to the year 860
and appears in Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang by Duan Chengshi. Yeh
hsien is a young girl, motherless and in the control of her stepmother, who
befriends a treasured fish. The jealous step mother kills the fish, but it s bones
provide Yeh hsien with magical powers, eventually enabling Yeh hsien to escape
the control of her step mother for a royal life. The Story of the Black Cow which
is found within the pages of Folk Tales from the Himalayas by John Murray,
published in 1906, the child who is mistreated by a stepmother is a male and the
role of savior is portrayed by a snake, with a cow serving as the moral of the story,
faithfulness. These two versions of Cinderella carry many common threads that are

Snapple Case
Snapple case 1. severity The severity of this of this problem is showing in exhibit

the first 5 months of 1993 were 15,3 million cases. So that s an increase of 225% in
sales. And when you look at figure 1 you can really see the severity of the
problem. Because normally the first five months are only 27,91% of the total sales
in a year. So normal sales volume would be 24,3 million cases. But if the increase
in demand stays at the same level in the second part of 1993 then total predicted
sales for all Snapple products will be 54,8 million cases. This large increase in sales
comes from Tea drinks which double and Fruit drinks that triple. And also... Show

4. Long term solutions Long term solutions are those that we feel cannot be
accomplished within a 3 month period. Outsourcing all production on the basis of
fixed contracts has proven to be inflexible and Snapple would be wise to invest in
its own production facility. Part of the outsourced work could then be handled by
themselves and it would also allow them to handle peak demands by increasing the
utilization and temporarily producing extra output. This solution has been derived
from Fisher s article on functional vs. innovative products. For a product
characterized by unpredictable demand, a market responsive supply chain is
recommended (Fisher, M. Harvard Business School Publishing). Such a supply chain
is more able to respond to unpredictable demand to minimize stock outs, which has
become the problem for Snapple. Their current supply chain is what Fisher calls
Physically efficient , and does not match the product. Because demand is so volatile,
a solution could be to adjust yearly forecasts more often, for instance monthly. This
would allow Snapple to bring production more in line with demand. However, the
question is whether the independent production companies are able to cope with a
monthly change in production quantity, in stead of a yearly one. Decentralization in
decision making should be the long term goal. Different markets require different
approaches and
Cerebellum Vs Cerebrum Research Paper
The cerebrum is the largest portion of the human brain. It takes up about 4/5 of the
weight of the brain and has what is described as a wrinkled cortex. Wrinkled cortex
increases the surface area of which increases the number of neurons. This makes
human brain to be more efficient than other vertebrates ( Cerebrumvs Cerebellum,

hemispheres, the left and right which is being further discussed by a fellow

hemispheres can also be divided into four lobes which we know as the frontal,
parietal, temporal, and occiptal lobes. The frontal lobehelps aids us with reasoning,

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis once observed, Once you can express yourself, you
can tell the world what you want from it. Self expression is a way for people to
communicate. It allows one to convey his or her thoughts and emotions to the outer
world. People express themselves in several different ways: using art forms,
writing, performing, etc. Others express themselves through their moral compass
and character. Self expression of one s morals enables others to build trust and
confide in he or she. One s morals are formed based on emotions and experiences
that impact the behavior and choices of the individual. I found that my main form of
expression is through my morals. Moral values are an important part of every person.

Pack smart
Check what the weather will be on the dates you are in Dubai. Be mindful of dress
codes and customs especially in more historical areas and places of worship. While
Dubai is generally relaxed, it is best to dress modestly, even for children. Women
may be required to wear head scarves and clothing that covers the arms, shoulders,
and legs when entering mosques.
Summer essentials
It is best to bring loose clothing that covers your arms and legs. Swimwear is
allowed in beaches, swimming pools, spas, and for other water related activities.
Late May to October are the hottest months, with temperatures reaching over 100
degrees. Bring items that will prevent sunburn such as lip balms, sunscreen,
sunglasses, wide brimmed hats, and even umbrellas. Wear appropriate footwear to
avoid burning your feet on beach sand. Do not forget to pack water to avoid
dehydration. Winter wear
From December to February, pack a light jacket or sweater as the desert can become
quite chilly in the evenings. For women, pashminas or scarves can provide warmth
or as a modest cover ups. You can still dress as you are like in the summer months as
Dubai is warm and humid all throughout the year, but may be a little bit colder during
the winter

Theodicy And The Manifestation Of Evil
Theodicy in its most common form, attempts to answer the question why a good
God permits the manifestation of evil. Some theodicies also address the evidential
problem of evil by attempting to make the existence of an all knowing, all powerful
and all good or omnibenevolent God consistent with the existence of evilor suffering
in the world. Unlike a defense, which tries to demonstrate that Gods existence is
logically possible in the light of evil, a theodicy attempts to provide a framework
wherein God s existence is also plausible. God exists in our understanding. He
created us perfectly with His likeness but then I believe that it is us who get to pick
what we wanted to become. It is like Lucifer in catholic teachings.... Show more

Orion s belt is one of the famous constellations in our galaxy. There are 3 stars that
form the belt, their names are: Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, which comes from
Arabic. In the myth, Hera, the wife of Zeus sent a scorpion to kill Orion. The belt
is a system of stars that have sibling stars that orbit around it. Each star is
potentially bright. The star Mintaka is super giant star that is 1,000 light years away.
The star is also 10,000 times brighter than our son. With it being the western most
star of the belt, it is 60,000 degrees Celsius.
The star Alnilam, the middle star, is also a super giant. As close as it seems, it is

with the guests that he killed his only ox. The gods granted him one wish. Hyrieus

was born in the same spot as the father buried the fur.
The meaning of the three stars are: Mintaka means area or region , Alnilam means
the string of pearls , and Alnitak comes from the phrase that means the girdle . The
stars formed around the same time as each other. There are several versions of the
myth. In another myth, Orion was blinded for raping Merope. She was the grand
daughter of the god Dionysis. Then he was sent to travel east to seek the sun s rays to

Toys Are an Influence Essay
Watery eyes, flaring nostrils, flailing limbs, and the temper of a furious bull, your
child is having a horrendous tantrum. Even though you ve taught them morals and
positive values, this seems to recurring issue. There is one question all parents
must ask themselves, What kind of outside influences am I allowing my child to
govern themselves with on a daily basis? These days, boys and girls alike face the
incessant impact of society in their social, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral
lives. This influence starts at a young age with the toys and games our little tykes
surround themselves with. By avoiding specific toys, you should be able to steer
clear of violent behavior that you don t want to see in your child. (Halter) Kids...

CBS News suggest that parents choose toys for their toddlers and preschoolers that
teach skills because a young child s brain will grab hold of these permanent marks
and carry through with them all the way to adulthood. (Halter) These playthings not
only teach skills, but confidence, because they learn to enjoy accomplishing any
task they face. Many say educational toys are the best way to go because it
stimulate tools a child will use throughout their schooling. Some toys have a
powerful influence on children s thinking, interaction with peers, and creative
expression. (Prof. Trawick Smith) The environment around a child has an incredible
impact on their development. From a home setting, to a park setting to a school
setting a child is constantly learning. Many studies have been done to determine
how individual toys can affect a child because it is important for parents and
educators to be informed. Even though many adults have their own idea of what is a

The Theme Of Emotions In John Steinbeck s Toy Story
The feeling of being gutted, disbanded, and lonely, and the sickening depression
everyone gets when they have no one. Emotions like this are commonly included in
Toy Story and shows a theme of deep feeling. The aforementioned movie includes
the mysterious backstory behind the father of its main character Andy. One of Pixar
s art designers said the tenebrous described character, Andy s father, a man who
succumbed to a sad death because of polio, but the only source of happiness that he
had were his toys, that Andy now keeps after his father s ill death. The western
fiction Of Mice and Men, written by author John Steinbecktells the tale of main
characters George and Lennie, two migrant farmers who claw their way through the
world of the 1930 s Great Depression, fueled by a tenacious everlasting bond of
friendship. This virtue perfectly displays the prominent theme of Of Mice and Men,
friendship can be a haven in a heartless world.
The first example is shown when George and Lennie are eating supper by a bonfire
near a river talking about their dream to a brighter future on a farm they will
purchase and eventually get livestock and crops. George says, ...with us it ain t like
that. We got a future. We got someone to talk to that gives a damn about us... and
then Lennie exclaims, because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look
after you, and that s why! (14). The treasured relationship between George and Lennie
perfectly exemplifies the theme of friendship. This is
The Tulsa Race Riot Of 1921
The Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 was the culmination of racial tensions both endemic in
American society as a whole in the period, and certain tensions peculiar to Tulsa,
Oklahoma. In 1921, Greenwood and its African American population became the
outlet for these often violent tensions seething among Tulsa s white population. The
following paper seeks to shed some further understanding on what motivated and
pushed the whites of Tulsa, Oklahomato such a violent, extreme reaction during the
riot.
To answer the question, Why were the whites so mean? it is necessary to understand
the pre existing conditions that existed in Tulsa, Oklahoma before the actual riot took
place in 1921.
Pre existing racism in Tulsa was the foundation on which all the other causes of the
riot were built upon. Wide spread segregation was still common in America at that
time and it was accepted by many in the North and South that whites were
inherently superior to blacks. These views were particularly strong in the South,
where emancipated blacks were seen as a threat and scourge to white Southern
culture, a culture which was utterly dominated by whites and where blacks were
oppressed with no hope of equal protection under the law, equal representation, etc.
This was also the case in Tulsa in the early 1900s. Blacks were segregated against
by the white residents and as a consequence formed their own community, called
Greenwood, on the north side of the Frisco Railroad tracks, which was heralded by

Wright State University English 2100 32 Sexualized Culture and Its Effects on
Hyper Sexuality Disorder Hyper sexuality, sexual compulsivity, sexual addiction,
and even out of control sexual behavior, are all terms that relate to the same thing:
hyper sexuality disorder. Hyper sexuality disorder is one in which a person
experiences extremely frequent or suddenly increased sexual urges or sexual activity.
Influenced by both physiological and psychological impulses, hyper sexuality leads
to emotional and physical distress. The sexualized nature of the American culture
combined with the overwhelming amount of online pornography is a major
contributing factor to the prevalence of hyper sexuality disorder. Sex is seen
everywhere, in advertising, entertainment, pop culture, and daily life, and has become
intensely intrusive at a psychological level within people. Because of the ever
growing amount of pornography and sex seen throughout our everyday lives, it is no
wonder that those that become sex addicts have personal distress resulting in affected
function. The saturation of our pornified culture contributes to the development of a
hyper sexuality disorder, which affects behavior, cognitive processes, and lifestyle.
Discussion Society American culture is saturated with pornography, sexual discourse,
and sexualized images. Sex has infiltrated every aspect of American life and its over

How Did Horatio Gates Have On American Society
Individual Leaders and their effect on American Society By analyzing the
leadership styles and character traits of Horatio Gates, a suitable general in the
Continental Army, and George Washington, a virtuous man, an understanding of
the necessary victory for America is perceived as the leaders are contrasted.
Horatio Gates and George Washington had a bitter rivalry in the midst of the
American Revolution. Gates jealousy of Washington s power caused him to plot to
overthrow him and become general of the Continental Army. He also had a
following of people who wanted Washington out of power. Gates followers proved
their loyalty to him when they discussed him in congress: Gates is the general we
want the general the revolution needs! (Beck 62). Gates supporters were tired of
Washington s battles ending in defeat. They rallied behind Gates, who was
believed to be the hero of the battle of Saratoga. Gates conspiracy fell apart when
Daniel Morgan proved that the true hero of Saratoga was Benedict Arnold. Glenn
Beck narrates this in his book, It was Benedict Arnold who led the charge and saved
the day! Horatio Gates is not half the general George Washington... (Beck 63).
Morgan s speech to the troops in York raised morale and support for Washington,
which destroyed Gates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gates wanted to gain glory by invading Canada and ending the war, but his expedition
was cancelled by congress. When he wrote to congress stating that the expedition
would benefit individuals, but not the public, they sent his letter to Washington.
Washington too, decided that Gates endeavours in Canada were unnecessary, and
Gates never recovered. (Mintz) Gates cowardice was seen by the army, and their
support for Washington rose. By 1778, Gates was no longer a viable threat to
Washington. Gates mediocre attempts at Washington did not phase him, and made
him stronger as a
Effects Of Animal Poaching
What if animal poaching came to an end? The world would be a better place and
the ecosystem and animal species would not be in danger. Animal poaching holds
the number one spot for wild animal deaths, resulting in more than 50 percent of all
deaths. Some people argue that animal poaching is a life style and should not be
stopped. Majority of the population argues that it is wrong and steps need to be
taking to end it. Big game animals such as tigers, elephants, and rhinos are facing
serious danger. They are being pushed to extinction in many countries. Animal
poachingis bad for the environment and food chains, its gruesome, operates on the
black market and is making animals go extinct. Animal poaching has nothing good
about it. It ruins many of things and changes people s way of life. It makes it harder
for animal populations to stay healthy and not extinct. Animal poaching needs to be
put to an end. Poaching is defined as the illegal practice of trespassing on another s
property to hunt or steal game without the landowner s permission (Dicitonary.com).
Many animals including elephants, tigers, rhinos, and snub nosed monkeys are on the
verge of extinction due to humans poaching them for felt, ivory, etc. According to,

Companies should focus on domain name availability, descriptiveness, trademark

Avon s Direct Selling Model and its Sales Representatives A Tangible Resource
As a direct seller Avon did not rely on classic advertising and marketing methods,
but on door to door, word of mouth strategy through trained sales representatives.
This has been the lifeblood of the company and over the years this has proven to be
its distinct source of competitive advantage as well (Exhibit 8).
Here we are trying to apply the tests for competitively valuable resources to the direct
selling model of Avon.
1)Test of Inimitability As a tangible resource, this has been inimitable because of the
fact that Avon s sales representatives were mainly women who wanted part time jobs.
This was further re inforced given that Avon s concentration was on beauty related
products and most of these women were easily trained on these products. This helped
them in reducing the cost of advertising and

The researchers used a questionnaire based on the Health Belief Model (HBM)
which was developed to assess individual s perception of susceptibility to illness,
severity of illness, costs and benefits of action, and cues to action. Data was
collected from 177 New Jersey nurses, attending an emergency care conference,
using a 56 question survey. The results were analyzed and compiled into 5 different
tables in regards to the susceptibility, role, knowledge and experience of nursing in
disaster preparedness and response. A strength of the study was that 79% of the
nurses who completed the survey were special certified and 70.5% of the
respondents have more than 10 years of experience in emergency nursing. This
allowed for the researchers to gather information that was accurate and actually
pertained to the population. There were several limitations of the study including, the
small sample size and potential demographic bias. All of the nurses that completed
the survey live and work in the New York or New Jersey area and based on the 9/11

do nurses from other parts of the United States (Whetzel et al., 2013). The second

Semiotics Of The Blade Runner
Blade Runner
I will be focusing my essay on Blade Runner: The Final Cut version released in 2007,
discussing and exploring through the semiotics, themes, motifs and artistic
representation that can be found within the film.
Plot
The original Blade Runner is a 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott, depicting the
future of life in Los Angeles in 2019. A company called the Tyrell Corporation has
created a line of intelligent androids, known as replicants, who are virtually
identical to human beings and are titled as the Nexus series. These replicants are
only used on off world colonies for fighting and working in extreme working
conditions on the other planets. The replicants are declared illegal on Earth after a
mutiny by Nexus 6 models in an off world colony. Four of the Nexus 6 model
replicants have managed to get access to Earth. The story focuses on Rick Deckard
(Harrison Ford), who is part of a special police squad known as blade runners, whose
task is to hunt down and retire (kill) any replicants on Earth.
Themes
Slavery and Racism
One of the most stand out themes of this film is the idea of slavery and racism. With
the paragraph of text at the beginning at the film outlining the story, there is one
sentence that tells us exactly what the replicants were used for: Replicants were used
Off world as slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and colonization of other
planets. (Blade Runner: The Final Cut, 2007). The film tells you, right from the
beginning, that these
Fashion Counterfeiting
Consumers want quantity over quality. Nowadays, it appears that more and more of
the regular consumers are uninterested in the quality of the product they buy, but
rather how much they will acquire from it. This leads to consumer purchasing
fashion counterfeit products which is becoming a rising issue in the United States
and Europe. Counterfeiting is an illegal act of producing and selling a replica of an
authentic product without the permission of the designer. This market expands from
movies, games, money, even medicine to clothes and accessories. Counterfeiting is a
fast growing industry that is a worldwide problem which consumers play a huge role
in. Aside from harmless pirated movies and the danger of fake pharmaceuticals,

On the other hand, a woman who lives in a small town, who occasionally gets to
encounter high end merchandise would not be interested in the fine stitching of the
handbag, so she will probably buy the knock off version. Two other reasons why
consumers intentionally buy fake goods are for aesthetics desire and because the
luxury brands are way too expensive. This pushes consumers to intentionally achieve
their desired image via the consumption of high fashion counterfeits (Juggessur and
Cohen 384). These are the factors that contribute to luxury fashion counterfeit. For
this research, I interviewed one Apparel Merchandising and Management (AMM)
students and three consumers. The reason I specifically chose an AMM student is
that this issue is regarding their field and future careers. Since consumers play a
factor in this massive industry, I chose three random consumers between the ages of
16 to 35 years old. I asked each person the same five questions regarding counterfeit
and each question are significant to this research. The research questions I asked are:
Do you know what counterfeiting is? What do you think about counterfeit? Have you
intentionally or unintentionally purchase a counterfeit product? Why? Where? Do
you know the effects it takes on? Can you distinguish the difference
Perfect Competition and Monopoly
Question 3 Perfect Competition and Monopoly
(a) I. Explain perfect competition and monopoly market structures, and identify the
key factors that distinguish them.
Perfect Competition Market
In economic theory, the perfect competition is a market form in which no
producer or consumer has the power to influence prices in the market. According
to the website wordIQ.com, in order to classify the market is a perfect competition
market, the market must match below criteria: 1. There are a large number of
small producers and consumers on a given market 2. None of the producers or
consumers can influence the price on their own (ie. Price takers) 3. Goods and
services are perfect substitute (ie. The goods or services is ... Show more content on

Many monopoly market is monitored by the government or other government
agencies, and this can ensure the services or goods are of reasonable level of quality.
Also, there would be a way for the customers to make complaint against the company.
Argument against monopoly One of the argument against monopoly is the market is
lack of competition, and the monopoly business does not have motivation to make
any innovation to improve its product or service.
Also, in the monopoly market, business has power to influence the supply level and
have great influence to affect the price level. In this structure of market, consumers
cannot choose their preferred suppliers and have no power to influence the price level.
(b) I. Choose a case study from your home country where an externality exists in a
current market. Illustrate the situation and the resulting deadweight loss in a diagram
and discuss ways that your government has addressed the presence of negative
externalities in the market.
Petroleum industry is an example of industry with externality in the market. There are
many petrol stations in Hong Kong, with different brand names, and we assume that
this is a perfect competition market. If there is no externality in this market, we
would conclude that the private cost that customers pay is same as social cost, and
the private benefit is same as

Short Essay On Eudora Welty
The Talented Southern Woman
In the mid to late nineteen twenties, a southern Mississippi girl was slowly making
an impact on the literary world with her a granite core in every tale: as complete

but also comic (Price 1). short stories. As a pioneer, she paved the way for future
writers and young women to accomplish goals and awards that have never been

grew up to go on the adventure of a lifetime to three different colleges and explore
various avenues to pursue her dream against her father s advice and wishes. Eudora
Welty is a fictional short story author who has had many worldly experiences,
brought inspiration to her audiences, and provided a platform to share her
knowledge through her writing. Eudora Welty was born on April thirteenth of

quaint small town where she went to elementary school at Davis Elementary. Her
father was Christian Webb Welty, who was raised in rural Ohio and became a
country school teacher in West Virginia ( Eudora Welty Biography 1). Christian then
went on to marry a fellow school teacher, Chestina Andrews, and she was soon to be

The Decline Of The Empires Of Ghana And Mali
Of all of the empires from the beginning and to the end of mankind s rise to power,
it is inevitable that they all may fall. To study each of the empires and learn of their
mistakes would be ideal in basing a government off of their successes, from which,
to have it last as long as it may. From the beginning, man had been driven towards
successes of power and to the actability of the generation of wealth. From the study of
the European Roman Empire, to its partial successor, the Byzantine Empire, and even
of the empire of the Americas, the Mayan and the Aztec; they have all fallen, yet their
long rule makes impacting impressions upon rules which still survive today. It does
not matter if you look at the Chinese empires of the Yuan and Ming dynasties, or even
to the African empires of Ghana and Mali; their legacies determine other s futures.
Whereas at this time, they should be expounded upon to determine whether some of
their more harsher forces strived them to achieve more than those who guided their
people through compromise and assimilation of local traditions.
Within the rise and fall of the European powers of the Roman Empire, one thing
was certain, and that was the way they were able to stay in power throughout their
autocracy reign. Many would say that this was due to their impressive, driven rulers
who had shaped Rome into what it is today. This is generally true, however, rulers
such as Augustus allowed for his empire to grow peacefully and prosper, which he

Essay about Good vs. Evil in Psycho
Psycho
Psycho is a classic suspense film directed by Alfred Hitchcock which features a
central female protagonist, a seemingly ordinary young woman named Marion Crane,
who crosses paths with a dangerous mentally ill motel owner, Norman Bates. As their
strange relationship develops, a dominant theme of good versus evil is introduced to
the audience through the use of characterisation, editing, mise en scene and various
other media techniques.
From the outset, Hitchcock introduces an initial theme of good versus evil during the
opening credits. The title scene could be seen as a reflection of the personality of
Norman Bates as the credits themselves are presented as fragmented titles which

In a similar shot, only half of his face is shown and this clearly symbolises the fact
that only one half of him can ever be fully good at any one time the other half will
always remain evil. However, sympathy is also evoked for Norman in this scene as
we see that his mother takes an instant dislike to Marion something which you
would not normally see between two strangers. We see how close and slightly
strange the relationship between Norman and his mother and the unnatural
dependence they have on each other, showing that Norman is trapped in his current
situation and making him seem like a good person. A similar effect is used
throughout the scene in Norman s parlour by with the use of light and dark as the
lighting picks out significant features such as only one side of Norman s face and
the underside of the owl s wings. The owl with its wings spread signifies his
mother controlling his mind and shows that she is ever present, although we never
see her, even when he is behaving normally she will always be inside his mind,
therefore making the viewer feel sympathetic towards him as he has no control over
his actions. Conversely, framing him next to an owl may suggest that Norman is a
predator and the owl is his equal. Like the owl, many other birds are featured in the
parlour scene, linking back to the recurring theme. Framing Marion next to them
when she first enters the room makes her seem vulnerable and presents her as equal
Anthropomorphism And Early Learning About Animals
Essay
(Un)Real Animals: Anthropomorphism and Early Learning about Animals 1.What
are the most important points of this article? The purpose of this paper is to
explain anthropomorphism and its effect on children s early learning about
animals. The term anthropomorphism gives life like or human characteristics to
those who are not human such as an animal or an object. The author s writing will
inform those who are concerned about this current dilemma and their effects on
the children s early learning about animals as well as provide us with our next
steps to ensure academic success for our youth. The proper development of these
early young minds is the main purpose of this research and article.
Anthropomorphism plays a crucial part on the child s developing mind. Between
the ages of three and five years old, children become exposed to anthromorphic
depictions when beginning to learn about real life animals. This skewed view of the
natural world and how children are taught to interpret it may be why children
become confused when faced with real animals because of the human qualities are
not really present. Throughout the article the author discuses different cross cultural
and experimental studies to show the different ways that children responded to
various representations of animals. For example, a child that has a pet at home may
be more likely to tell the difference between anthromorphism and real life animals as
opposed to a child who does not have a pet. Other studies have
Fair Apportionment In The United States
Ever since the first democratic election of 1950, Turkish people have proven high
interests in elections. The lowest participation was in 1973 with 66.82 percent and
highest participation in 1987 with 93.38 percent (IDEA). Despite the high voter
turnout rate, their votes have not been represented equally. The apportionment
method used have not been fair. Apportionment deals straight with the amount of
political power granted to citizens living in different areas. A fair apportionment
method would grant each citizen equal amount of political power despite their
locations. It is however, difficult to apportion in accordance with the principle of
equal vote value. The apportionment problem arises due to the rounding problem. In
formal statement, apportionment problem involves a group of states with some
populations (p1, p2, ..., p3), and a whole number of a seats to distribute.
Apportionment distributes a whole number of seats to each state where the sum of
the distributions equal to the total number of seats (Young 2004). It is expected that

It used conventional rounding instead of rounding down. Webster s method does not
violate any of the apportionment paradoxes, yet it can rarely violate quota criterion.
In 1941, Huntington Hill method was adopted and is still being used today. The
Huntington Hill method is almost identical to Webster s method (Hodge Klima).
Unlike Webster s method, Huntington Hill method uses geometric mean as cutoff for
rounding quotas. If the quota is greater than the geometric mean of the two nearest
whole numbers, round the quota up, otherwise round it down. If the total number of
seats allocated is too large or small, increase or decrease the divisor to apportion the
exact number of seats. For a quota like 5.482, Huntington Hill method would take the
geometric mean (sqrt(5*6)=5.477) and round it up to 6 because the quota is greater
than the geometric
Letter From Birmingham Jail By Martin Luther Ruler Jr.
Through the span of Letter from Birmingham Jail (1963), the creator, Martin Luther
King Jr., makes stretched out references to different rationalists, among them Aquinas
and Socrates. His examination would appear to show that he imparts a fondness to
them. Notwithstanding, the clearness with which he makes his contentions and the
devotion to a solitary start strikes most unequivocally of Kant. Similarly, as Kant s
artful culmination, Investigate of Unadulterated Reason, endeavored to totally
overturn a formerly acknowledged method of thought, so likewise was the best s
work committed to a solitary target: the assurance of common rebellion as a type of
dissent with the end goal that the Social Equality Development could proceed in
uncompromised shape. Notwithstanding this peculiarity of reason, the
unpredictability of the circumstance implied that a more nuanced reaction to the
announcement A Call for Solidarity as distributed by eight Alabama Pastors was
essential. Along these lines, Ruler s letter in certainty filled a fourfold need: to build
up himself as a real specialist according to his group of onlookers, to demonstrate the
trials of the dark in America, to legitimize his motivation, and to contend the need of
prompt activity. In Martin Luther Ruler Jr s. letter, composed to the Pastors from

Essay Jane Austen
Jane Austen
6. How does Mansfield Park interrogate the relationship of power and gender?
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen is a classic realist text, which is almost exclusively
focused on a small strip of society, namely the upper middle class of rural England;
the class to which she herself belonged. Throughout her novel, Austen portrays the
disadvantaged position of woman, presenting the issues of gender stereotyping and
marriage choice as the main problems they have to confront. Gender came to be seen
as a construct of society, designed to facilitate the smooth running of society to the
advantage of men 1, proving that men gained power throughout the socially
constructed subordination of woman.

Fanny s weak position is shown through the punctuation and structure of her
sentences, as she often begins to protest, but then breaks off at a dash, unable to
continue. This contrasts with the clarity of Sir Thomas s speech, in which he
conveys a tone of certainty and finality, whilst speaking with ease. He is confident,
and sure of his thoughts; so sure in fact, that he tries to impose them on Fanny, and
will use any kind of pressure or cruelty to force her to comply with his decision that
she should marry.
Sir Thomas trying to persuade Fanny to marry emphasises the fact that Austen s
novels operate around the framework of love, marriage and money. Many of the
characters believe that there is no future development open to women of their class
but marriage and the upbringing of children, making Fanny seem extremely unusual
when she turns down Henry s offer. This relates to the Marxist view that dominant
visible forms taken by modes of physical and social reproduction through history
have been family and kinship structures 2, which utilises the gender positions of
male power and female subservience. Austen uses words such as career , to reminds
us that marriage was a woman s livelihood, her career in the sense that it was her
life s work, and that she would grab any marriage that had good financial prospects.
In the society and culture that Austen depicts, the male is regarded as the norm, as
the central position from which the female is

The Mars Of The Martian
Mars Colony Essay For many years, people have envisaged a colony on Mars.
Though the task may be daunting to some, the ideas and resources needed to
sustain a colony on Mars is very important. The similarities and differences between
the ideas presented will be analyzed so that the ideas that will form the future for
Earth can be used. Moreover, these ideas will also be compared and contrasted to
those from the movie, The Martian. In the MarsX colony, the government was a
popular sovereignty, in other words the people s say. The Mars X colony was
established on ground rules that stated that everyone shall be equal no matter how
wealthy one may be. This can also be said for the other colonies. In the other
colonies, people were also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hellas Planitia colony chose to bring livestock embryos and seeds. The
livestock embryos could be fertilized and the animal would be born. This would be
effective because the livestock embryos would weigh less, than the animal itself.
Something else that made the Mars X colony stand by itself was its all organic
way. Unlike other colonies, that brought GMO foods or frozen food, the Mars X
colony didn t do that. The goal was to give fresh food so that the people on Mars
will have a healthy diet. Since GMO foods have chemicals, the Mars X colony
didn t want any unwanted stuff in the body. In the Martian, Mark Watney used his
own feces to plant potatoes. This is similar to the Mars X colony and others did
hydroponic farming. Since human feces will have nutrients that weren t taken into
the digestive system, those nutrients will be able to help the plants grow. In
hydroponic farming, the nutrients are delivered in a water solvent so that the
plants can absorb the vitamins and minerals they need. In conclusion, both ways of
obtaining food were similar. In order for all of this to happen to happen you need
energy. Though there were many similarities between how the colonies would
receive energy and the Martian, but other colonies used extra energy sources. The
Hellas Planitia colony said that they would get energy by solar panels and other
means. Mostly all of the colonies stated that they would use solar panels, because of
the simplicity. Since Mars wasn t shrouded

The Main Features of Weimar Germanys Golden Years Between 1925 1929
There where many events between the years of 1925 1929 in Weimar Germany that
were seen as golden years. The diplomatic skills of Gustav Stresemann, the foreign
minister allowed Germany to excel in foreign affairs. Politically Stresemann wanted
to improve relations between Germany and the rest of Europe and also the USA. In
1925 the Locarno Treaty took place and Germany accepted the borders with France
and Belgium that were agreed in the Treaty of Versailles. Germany accepted that the
Rhineland would remain a demilitarised zone. Also France and Germany agreed to
settle any disputes. This meant that they would respect the German ... Show more

With this it enabled Germany to raise matters of German interest. The introduction of
Germany to the league of nations was definitely a major feature in the golden years
between 1925 1929 because talking with the likes of Britain and France in the
League of nations assembly was a huge step for Germany s ranking with the rest of
the world.
It was not only politically that the years between 1925 1929 were called golden
years. Culturally the Weimar experienced some high points between these years.
In the years between 1924 and 1929 there was certainly a great array of talent in
the Weimar. There was a great increase in literature, drama, art, music, and
architecture. The increase in all of these made the entertainment and leisure in
Germany higher than it had ever been before. With this increase it gave the people
of Germany a great deal of pride because they were challenging Paris as the cultural
centre of Europe. Also the increase in Weimar culture boosted the morale of the
country. This was because the culture helped the German people to take their minds
off the past years and enjoy themselves, it especially helped them forget about the
war that had occurred only a few years before. The culture in Weimar was definitely a
main feature when talking about the golden years that had occurred between 1925
1929. Without the increase in culture

Wilderness is beautiful gift that was given to us when the world was made. But,
nowadays it seems to be people do not care about it. Have you ever thought about
wilderness? Do you know who cares about nature? Do you want to help conserve it?
Have you ever wonder why there are laws to protect the wilderness? This essay will

inform of the major problem of world. The article is directed to all the people who
care about protecting the wilderness. Also they are directed to the people who
would like to fight for the cause of wilderness, the same fight that Henry David
Thoreau, John Muir and Aldo Leopold had just to protect the wilderness. In some
way these articles were written to let everyone know about the situation or the
problem of wilderness, but also to encourage children to learn about nature, to care
about nature and to protected, and it was directed for adults to, so they can make

something to be able to finish with this problem, the destruction of wilderness. This
problem it s been presents since Europeans came to America. Another problem is
that we, people do not pay attention to these kinds of problems. People are not aware

The Importance Of Environmental Differences On The...
As a Sustainability major the topic of environmental attitudes comes up quite a bit.
What stops people from being more environmentally friendly? Why don t more
people car about sustainability and the health of our earth? After seeing the spectrum
of environmental attitudes in class I started to visualize it as a bell curve. The
opposing extremes of the curve would be the exploitative industries on one side and
Eco radicals on the other. In the middle of the curve is where most of the human
population lies. This made me think about where I where I fell on the spectrum and
where I want to eventually be on the spectrum. The spectrum of environmental
attitudes from right to left goes from exploitative industries, more conscious
businesses, naГЇve neutrals, conservationists, preservationists, and ending with eco
radicals. When I was young I did not believe in climate change. I took what my dad
said for granted, not realizing that he was just going off his own personal beliefs and
had no factual knowledge on the matter. I was very naГЇve then. After I apprehended
my ignorance, I decide I would never blindly trust what someone else says without
looking further into the subject. I am ashamed of the time I spent believing in
something so wrong, but I have the rest of my live to make up for it. The naГЇve
neutrals, I enjoy the title for this section of people not only for its catchy alliteration
but because it is a fitting description for this group of people. These are the people
1914 Was The Most Important Reason For The Outbreak Of
War...
Growing militarism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was the most
important reason for the outbreak of war in 1914 . To what extent do you agree with
this statement?
Reason 1
For 20 years the nations of Europe had been engaged in an arms race, each country
wanting to be stronger than the enemy s army. The intense Arms race had encouraged
each nation to equate its preservation with its military strength, creating a mood in
which war seemed inevitable. Many countries at the time had some modern military
equipment that they could be use during a war. It was one of the biggest military
expansion time in history. Britain themselves made 29 warships from 1906 to
1914,and Germany made 17 in the same amount of time. Of course this investment in
Military equipment cost a much amount money to do. and all of this is because of
the amount of industrialization in the world. It all started in the early 1800 century in
England. But by the start of the 1900 century almost all of Europe where in the
industrial face with meant they started to make weapons and bombs. But that was not
the only thing being made, they where also making Shirts and Clothes. ... Show more

Political Campaign Dbq
Effective Strategies Used in Political Campaigns One successful strategy applied
in political propaganda is plain folks . This strategy appeals to regular citizens in
different ways, whether making the politician seem down to earth, homely, or
simply relatable. One example of this is when candidates always seem to be
rolling up their sleeves, wearing jeans, drinking beer, or doing some other ordinary
activity. This gives politicians a more approachable and empathetic vibe, and is
helpful in relating voters to the candidate, hence giving them a desire to vote.
Another example of this is shown in Document C, through Stevenson s song I Love
the Guv . The lyric I d rather have a man with a hole in his shoe than a hole in
everything he says is a powerful example of this type of strategy, as it is making
Stevenson just seem like another normal citizen. Although this strategy is extremely
effective and quite ethical, it may be, at times, less than informative.... Show more

These types of ads, also known as attack ads, target the opponent s flaws and
weakness in an unethical manner. As shown in Document D, negative ads only
include the negative points about a candidate s opponent. One example of this is in
George Bush s attack ad, Tank Ride . [Michael Dukakis] has opposed virtually every
defense system we developed...And now he wants to be our Commander in Chief.
America can t afford that risk. While most people would think that these negatively
skewed ads would turn away voters, according to data, this has actually proved to be
an extremely effective strategy. Although attack ads have proved their effectiveness,
they are not particularly informative or even ethical, as they are disrespectful to the
Crow Lake Essay
Isolation В– Myth or Fact
Isolation, meaning a state of separation, is often misperceived by many as people
frequently believe that isolation is always a negative state of being; that isolation due
to emotions is non realistic, and that isolation is always involuntary. These myths are
commonly accepted; however, the novel Crow Lake takes a different stand from
these myths. Mary Lawson, author of the novel, demonstrated isolations in many of
its forms through the protagonist, Kate, and a small, desolated rural community that
represented the primary setting of the novel, Crow Lake. By doing so, Lawson
reveals the counterfactual nature of these myths and thus correcting the
misconceptions that the society has about isolation.

Moreover, the emotional barrier that keep Kate isolated is metaphorically compared
to, В…whirlwind howling throughВ… (54), which illustrates the intensity and
ferocity of Kate s emotions like that of a whirlwind; thus, demonstrating the power of
the emotional barriers. By illustrating the emotional barriers around Kate, Lawson
conveys the fact that isolation occurs even if no physical barriers are present as
emotional barriers can be just as effective at isolating an individual as their physical
counterparts.
Lastly, Mary Lawson corrects the misconception that isolation is always
involuntary through Kate s isolation of her thoughts and feelings from others who
surrounds her. Kate s tendency to restrict her feelings characterizes her preference
to isolate her emotions from her external surroundings: No, you swallow your
feelingsВ… (36). Furthermore, although Kate s isolation is reflected upon Daniel
as he feels, That there was a barrier somewhereВ… (36 37), Kate s detest for Daniel
asking her about her life shows the fact that her isolation is by choice and not
involuntary: В…sometimes he made me feelВ…like some poor hapless microbe,
under his microscope, where he could study my very soul
Juxtaposition In The Doctor And Doctor s Wife
10.In 1) The Doctor and the Doctor s Wife , Hemingway uses juxtaposition and
diction to craft the text. He reveals the strained relationship between the husband and
wife in this story through their dialogue and the way the speak to each other. For
example, when the wife asks about his argument with Dick Boulton, he is vague and
says nothing is wrong. She replies saying, Tell me, Henry. Please don t try and keep
anything from me (Hemingway 26). This displays how their relationship consisted of
distrust and secrets, mainly on the doctors part. The dialogue like this throughout the
story aids in illustrating the motif of negative genderrelationships that is rife in
Hemingway s stories. He also uses juxtaposition, as discussed earlier,... Show more

This is a stereotypical American ideology; that material possessions will fix all of
one s problems. The cat, and the fact that they are the only Americans, are images that
are intended to convey the theme of isolation, both physically and emotionally. The
husband and wife, while physically are very close, are miles away from each other
emotionally. Hemingway writes George was not listening. He was reading his book
(Hemingway 94). George was not emotionally connected with his wife, and was not
paying attention to her, evidence of serious relational problems, a topic Hemingway
stresses heavily throughout his writing. In 7) Out of Season , Hemingway again
portrays the tenuous relationships between men and women. The woman is cold and
distant, due to some argument the two had at lunch. Her husband says I m sorry you
feel so rotten, Tiny...I m sorry I talked the way I did at lunch (Hemingway 99). The
husband attempts to reconcile, but his wife sloughs off his apologies and remains
distant. This relationship is a prime example of what Hemingway is trying to convey
throughout In Our Time, that men and women are simply too different to have

  • 2. Fairy Tale Analysis Cinderella, We Know Thee Near and Far Triumphant reward in spite of unjust punishment is a universal sentiment that transcends languages and cultures. There are thousands of folktales and fairy tales that are firmly rooted in individual cultures, yet the tale of Cinderella has been told through many centuries and throughout the far corners of the world. With thousands of versions of this classic tale in print worldwide, the tale is believed to have originated with the story of Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl who is married to an Egyptian King. The story of Rhodopis, which means rosy cheeks, dates back to 7 BC and is attributed to a Greek geographer named Strabo. The Chinese variation of this fairy tale is named Yeh hsien. The Chinese version is traceable to the year 860 and appears in Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang by Duan Chengshi. Yeh hsien is a young girl, motherless and in the control of her stepmother, who befriends a treasured fish. The jealous step mother kills the fish, but it s bones provide Yeh hsien with magical powers, eventually enabling Yeh hsien to escape the control of her step mother for a royal life. The Story of the Black Cow which is found within the pages of Folk Tales from the Himalayas by John Murray, published in 1906, the child who is mistreated by a stepmother is a male and the role of savior is portrayed by a snake, with a cow serving as the moral of the story, faithfulness. These two versions of Cinderella carry many common threads that are

  • 4. Snapple Case Snapple case 1. severity The severity of this of this problem is showing in exhibit 1. Where total case sales of the first 5 months of 1992 were 6,8 million the sales of the first 5 months of 1993 were 15,3 million cases. So that s an increase of 225% in sales. And when you look at figure 1 you can really see the severity of the problem. Because normally the first five months are only 27,91% of the total sales in a year. So normal sales volume would be 24,3 million cases. But if the increase in demand stays at the same level in the second part of 1993 then total predicted sales for all Snapple products will be 54,8 million cases. This large increase in sales comes from Tea drinks which double and Fruit drinks that triple. And also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 4. Long term solutions Long term solutions are those that we feel cannot be accomplished within a 3 month period. Outsourcing all production on the basis of fixed contracts has proven to be inflexible and Snapple would be wise to invest in its own production facility. Part of the outsourced work could then be handled by themselves and it would also allow them to handle peak demands by increasing the utilization and temporarily producing extra output. This solution has been derived from Fisher s article on functional vs. innovative products. For a product characterized by unpredictable demand, a market responsive supply chain is recommended (Fisher, M. Harvard Business School Publishing). Such a supply chain is more able to respond to unpredictable demand to minimize stock outs, which has become the problem for Snapple. Their current supply chain is what Fisher calls Physically efficient , and does not match the product. Because demand is so volatile, a solution could be to adjust yearly forecasts more often, for instance monthly. This would allow Snapple to bring production more in line with demand. However, the question is whether the independent production companies are able to cope with a monthly change in production quantity, in stead of a yearly one. Decentralization in decision making should be the long term goal. Different markets require different approaches and

Self expression is a way for people to communicate. It allows one to convey his or her thoughts and emotions to the outer world. People express themselves in several different ways: using art forms, writing, performing, etc. Others express themselves through their moral compass and character. Self expression of one s morals enables others to build trust and confide in he or she. The following paper seeks to shed some further understanding on what motivated and pushed the whites of Tulsa, Oklahomato such a violent, extreme reaction during the riot. To answer the question, Why were the whites so mean? it is necessary to understand the pre existing conditions that existed in Tulsa, Oklahoma before the actual riot took place in 1921. Pre existing racism in Tulsa was the foundation on which all the other causes of the riot were built upon. • 28. The Decline Of The Empires Of Ghana And Mali Of all of the empires from the beginning and to the end of mankind s rise to power, it is inevitable that they all may fall. To study each of the empires and learn of their mistakes would be ideal in basing a government off of their successes, from which, to have it last as long as it may. From the beginning, man had been driven towards successes of power and to the actability of the generation of wealth. From the study of the European Roman Empire, to its partial successor, the Byzantine Empire, and even of the empire of the Americas, the Mayan and the Aztec; they have all fallen, yet their long rule makes impacting impressions upon rules which still survive today. It does not matter if you look at the Chinese empires of the Yuan and Ming dynasties, or even to the African empires of Ghana and Mali; their legacies determine other s futures. Whereas at this time, they should be expounded upon to determine whether some of their more harsher forces strived them to achieve more than those who guided their people through compromise and assimilation of local traditions. Within the rise and fall of the European powers of the Roman Empire, one thing was certain, and that was the way they were able to stay in power throughout their autocracy reign. Many would say that this was due to their impressive, driven rulers who had shaped Rome into what it is today. This is generally true, however, rulers such as Augustus allowed for his empire to grow peacefully and prosper, which he took

Essay about Good vs. Evil in Psycho Psycho Psycho is a classic suspense film directed by Alfred Hitchcock which features a central female protagonist, a seemingly ordinary young woman named Marion Crane, who crosses paths with a dangerous mentally ill motel owner, Norman Bates. As their strange relationship develops, a dominant theme of good versus evil is introduced to the audience through the use of characterisation, editing, mise en scene and various other media techniques. From the outset, Hitchcock introduces an initial theme of good versus evil during the opening credits. The title scene could be seen as a reflection of the personality of Norman Bates as the credits themselves are presented as fragmented titles which come together as one on the screen but then ... In a similar shot, only half of his face is shown and this clearly symbolises the fact that only one half of him can ever be fully good at any one time the other half will always remain evil. However, sympathy is also evoked for Norman in this scene as we see that his mother takes an instant dislike to Marion something which you would not normally see between two strangers. We see how close and slightly strange the relationship between Norman and his mother and the unnatural dependence they have on each other, showing that Norman is trapped in his current situation and making him seem like a good person. A similar effect is used throughout the scene in Norman s parlour by with the use of light and dark as the lighting picks out significant features such as only one side of Norman s face and the underside of the owl s wings. The owl with its wings spread signifies his mother controlling his mind and shows that she is ever present, although we never see her, even when he is behaving normally she will always be inside his mind, therefore making the viewer feel sympathetic towards him as he has no control over his actions. Conversely, framing him next to an owl may suggest that Norman is a predator and the owl is his equal. Like the owl, many other birds are featured in the parlour scene, linking back to the recurring theme. Framing Marion next to them when she first enters the room makes her seem vulnerable and presents her as equal

The proper development of these early young minds is the main purpose of this research and article. Anthropomorphism plays a crucial part on the child s developing mind. Between the ages of three and five years old, children become exposed to anthromorphic depictions when beginning to learn about real life animals. This skewed view of the natural world and how children are taught to interpret it may be why children become confused when faced with real animals because of the human qualities are not really present. Throughout the article the author discuses different cross cultural and experimental studies to show the different ways that children responded to various representations of animals. For example, a child that has a pet at home may be more likely to tell the difference between anthromorphism and real life animals as opposed to a child who does not have a pet. Other studies have

The lowest participation was in 1973 with 66.82 percent and highest participation in 1987 with 93.38 percent (IDEA). Despite the high voter turnout rate, their votes have not been represented equally. The apportionment method used have not been fair. Apportionment deals straight with the amount of political power granted to citizens living in different areas. A fair apportionment method would grant each citizen equal amount of political power despite their locations. It is however, difficult to apportion in accordance with the principle of equal vote value. The apportionment problem arises due to the rounding problem. In formal statement, apportionment problem involves a group of states with some populations (p1, p2, ..., p3), and a whole number of a seats to distribute. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen is a classic realist text, which is almost exclusively focused on a small strip of society, namely the upper middle class of rural England; the class to which she herself belonged. Throughout her novel, Austen portrays the disadvantaged position of woman, presenting the issues of gender stereotyping and marriage choice as the main problems they have to confront. Gender came to be seen as a construct of society, designed to facilitate the smooth running of society to the advantage of men 1, proving that men gained power throughout the socially constructed subordination of woman. Fanny s weak position is shown through the punctuation and structure of her sentences, as she often begins to protest, but then breaks off at a dash, unable to continue. This contrasts with the clarity of Sir Thomas s speech, in which he conveys a tone of certainty and finality, whilst speaking with ease. He is confident, and sure of his thoughts; so sure in fact, that he tries to impose them on Fanny, and will use any kind of pressure or cruelty to force her to comply with his decision that she should marry. Sir Thomas trying to persuade Fanny to marry emphasises the fact that Austen s novels operate around the framework of love, marriage and money. Many of the characters believe that there is no future development open to women of their class but marriage and the upbringing of children, making Fanny seem extremely unusual when she turns down Henry s offer. This relates to the Marxist view that dominant visible forms taken by modes of physical and social reproduction through history have been family and kinship structures 2, which utilises the gender positions of male power and female subservience. Austen uses words such as career , to reminds us that marriage was a woman s livelihood, her career in the sense that it was her life s work, and that she would grab any marriage that had good financial prospects. In the society and culture that Austen depicts, the male is regarded as the norm, as the central position from which the female is

The opposing extremes of the curve would be the exploitative industries on one side and Eco radicals on the other. In the middle of the curve is where most of the human population lies. This made me think about where I where I fell on the spectrum and where I want to eventually be on the spectrum. The spectrum of environmental attitudes from right to left goes from exploitative industries, more conscious businesses, naГЇve neutrals, conservationists, preservationists, and ending with eco radicals. When I was young I did not believe in climate change. I took what my dad said for granted, not realizing that he was just going off his own personal beliefs and had no factual knowledge on the matter. I was very naГЇve then. After I apprehended my ignorance, I decide I would never blindly trust what someone else says without looking further into the subject. I am ashamed of the time I spent believing in something so wrong, but I have the rest of my live to make up for it. The naГЇve neutrals, I enjoy the title for this section of people not only for its catchy alliteration but because it is a fitting description for this group of people. These are the people

Growing militarism in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century was the most important reason for the outbreak of war in 1914 . To what extent do you agree with this statement? Reason 1 For 20 years the nations of Europe had been engaged in an arms race, each country wanting to be stronger than the enemy s army. The intense Arms race had encouraged each nation to equate its preservation with its military strength, creating a mood in which war seemed inevitable. Britain themselves made 29 warships from 1906 to 1914,and Germany made 17 in the same amount of time. Of course this investment in Military equipment cost a much amount money to do. and all of this is because of the amount of industrialization in the world. It all started in the early 1800 century in England. But by the start of the 1900 century almost all of Europe where in the industrial face with meant they started to make weapons and bombs. • 54. Political Campaign Dbq Effective Strategies Used in Political Campaigns One successful strategy applied in political propaganda is plain folks . This strategy appeals to regular citizens in different ways, whether making the politician seem down to earth, homely, or simply relatable. One example of this is when candidates always seem to be rolling up their sleeves, wearing jeans, drinking beer, or doing some other ordinary activity. This gives politicians a more approachable and empathetic vibe, and is helpful in relating voters to the candidate, hence giving them a desire to vote. Another example of this is shown in Document C, through Stevenson s song I Love the Guv . The lyric I d rather have a man with a hole in his shoe than a hole in everything he says is a powerful example of this type of strategy, as it is making Stevenson just seem like another normal citizen. Although this strategy is extremely effective and quite ethical, it may be, at times, less than informative.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These types of ads, also known as attack ads, target the opponent s flaws and weakness in an unethical manner. As shown in Document D, negative ads only include the negative points about a candidate s opponent. One example of this is in George Bush s attack ad, Tank Ride . While most people would think that these negatively skewed ads would turn away voters, according to data, this has actually proved to be an extremely effective strategy. Although attack ads have proved their effectiveness, they are not particularly informative or even ethical, as they are disrespectful to the

Crow Lake Essay Isolation В– Myth or Fact Isolation, meaning a state of separation, is often misperceived by many as people frequently believe that isolation is always a negative state of being; that isolation due to emotions is non realistic, and that isolation is always involuntary. These myths are commonly accepted; however, the novel Crow Lake takes a different stand from these myths. Mary Lawson, author of the novel, demonstrated isolations in many of its forms through the protagonist, Kate, and a small, desolated rural community that represented the primary setting of the novel, Crow Lake. By doing so, Lawson reveals the counterfactual nature of these myths and thus correcting the misconceptions that the society has about isolation. In Crow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the emotional barrier that keep Kate isolated is metaphorically compared to, В…whirlwind howling throughВ… (54), which illustrates the intensity and ferocity of Kate s emotions like that of a whirlwind; thus, demonstrating the power of the emotional barriers. By illustrating the emotional barriers around Kate, Lawson conveys the fact that isolation occurs even if no physical barriers are present as emotional barriers can be just as effective at isolating an individual as their physical counterparts. Lastly, Mary Lawson corrects the misconception that isolation is always involuntary through Kate s isolation of her thoughts and feelings from others who surrounds her. Kate s tendency to restrict her feelings characterizes her preference to isolate her emotions from her external surroundings: No, you swallow your feelingsВ… (36). Furthermore, although Kate s isolation is reflected upon Daniel as he feels, That there was a barrier somewhereВ… (36 37), Kate s detest for Daniel asking her about her life shows the fact that her isolation is by choice and not involuntary: В…sometimes he made me feelВ…like some poor hapless microbe, under his microscope, where he could study my very soul
  • 56. Juxtaposition In The Doctor And Doctor s Wife 10.In 1) The Doctor and the Doctor s Wife , Hemingway uses juxtaposition and diction to craft the text. He reveals the strained relationship between the husband and wife in this story through their dialogue and the way the speak to each other. For example, when the wife asks about his argument with Dick Boulton, he is vague and says nothing is wrong. She replies saying, Tell me, Henry. Please don t try and keep anything from me (Hemingway 26). This displays how their relationship consisted of distrust and secrets, mainly on the doctors part. The dialogue like this throughout the story aids in illustrating the motif of negative genderrelationships that is rife in Hemingway s stories. He also uses juxtaposition, as discussed earlier,... The cat, and the fact that they are the only Americans, are images that are intended to convey the theme of isolation, both physically and emotionally. The husband and wife, while physically are very close, are miles away from each other emotionally. Hemingway writes George was not listening. He was reading his book (Hemingway 94). George was not emotionally connected with his wife, and was not paying attention to her, evidence of serious relational problems, a topic Hemingway stresses heavily throughout his writing. In 7) Out of Season , Hemingway again portrays the tenuous relationships between men and women. The woman is cold and distant, due to some argument the two had at lunch. Her husband says I m sorry you feel so rotten, Tiny...I m sorry I talked the way I did at lunch (Hemingway 99). The husband attempts to reconcile, but his wife sloughs off his apologies and remains distant. This relationship is a prime example of what Hemingway is trying to convey throughout In Our Time, that men and women are simply too different to have functional
