Analysis Of Kano s Tiger Fording Stream With Cubs
Tiger Fording Stream with Cubs by Kano Tanshin is a Japanese ink painting from the
early nineteenth century. The artwork depicts an adult tiger and its two cubs in the
middle of a flowing stream. The parent wades in the water with one cub climbing on its
back and the other swimming next to the adult. A few short stalks of bamboo sit to the
right of the tigers, but otherwise, the background is very open and no land is shown.
Through symbolism and elements such as line, value, and space, Kano s Tiger Fording
Stream with Cubs portrays the idea that softness and affection can be found in even the
strongest and fiercest of beings. In Japan, the tiger is a symbol of great power. The
intimidating cat is often illustrated with bulging

The Effects Of Guernica By Pablo Picasso
1. Introduction
The painting Guernica by Pablo Picasso was created in response to the bombing of
Guernica during the Spanish Civil War and it serves to highlight the atrocities that
resulted from it. This essay will explore the relationship between art and war, with
particular reference to Picasso s Guernica. This will be achieved my discussing firstly
the background that came prior to the painting and to the event itself. Secondly, it will be
proved by drawing conclusions on what the painting serves to resemble. Lastly, it will
discuss the effects of that the painting Guernica has continued to have even after the
Spanish civil war.
2. The emergence of Cubism
The Cubism movement was founded in the twentieth century by Pablo Picasso and
Georges Braque as a radical from of modern art. Cubism emerged as a response to the
swiftly changing world (Doss, 2003:1). Cubism was a rejection of the traditional art
values, styles and forms that accompanied the world prior to the revolutionary twentieth
century, as it sought to establish a new method for responding to and representing the
modern age. In this sense, Cubism was a direct artistic reaction to the modernity that
emerged, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This indirect reference is manifested in the fact that there is no actual evidence or
depiction of any bombs, planes or warfare that would resemble either the Spanish civil
war or the bombing of Guernica. Instead, there it is a depiction of the general human
suffering and loss that serves as a cross cultural and worldwide representation of the
atrocities of war. Guernica (figure 1) is therefore a political commentary on the Spanish
civil war, and in particular on the bombing of Guernica, that is a reflection and symbol of
the effects, rather than the cause of the bombing and warfare (Polombo,

Speaking of drunk, I have wine in my room. Shall we indulge? I ve never seen you have
more than a few sips, Maxen.
He propped himself up on his elbows and kissed her. I will drink. Let me dress and fetch
the bottle.
He hopped out of bed, and Audra admired his magnificent, muscular backside with a
satisfied smile on her face and he slipped into his trousers, but the spotted a smear of
blood on his lower arm.
Maxen, you re still bleeding.
Nothing to worry about. He dragged his tunic over his head and glanced over his
shoulder at her. But oh...
What?
I ve gotten my blood all over that pretty face of yours.
Maxen sat on the bed beside Audra, licked his thumb, and scrubbed the dried blood from
her face. Then he leaned down and kissed her.
I don t want to stop kissing you or touching you, he said.
I think we can break for refreshment.
He let out a playful growl. I don t want to, but I will.
After giving Audra another long kiss, he rose and padded from the room, and Audra
stretched out in the bed. She was relaxed and in love, and she pushed away any feelings
of guilt. Those could be managed later. During this week, Maxen would be the husband
of her heart, and if the gods saw fit to strike her down for her transgressions, it would all
be worth it.
Maxen s quiet footsteps padded back to the room; however, an unfamiliar voice spoke
just outside the chamber door.
Sir Knight, would you and the queen care to share in the festivities downstairs? You are
most welcome.

Literary Criticism Of Candide
Voltaire had once said I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your
right to say it. This quote itself is representative of who Voltaire was, a man who was
vocal and an activist. Born in 1694, Voltaire was set out to become a well known writer
and contributor to the Enlightenment. Voltairehad written many books, but his most well
known novel was Candide. This book was written as a satirical response to the philosophy
of complete optimism championed by scholars, particularly Philosopher Leibniz.
Throughout this novel, Voltaire utilizes the literary genre of Bildungsromanto set a
framework for criticizing Leibniz s philosophy. Bildungsroman novels are characterized
by the development of a young person...attempting to learn the nature of the world
(Hofeditz). The main rites of passage are: birth, the teacher, love, and marriage. The
main character in Voltaire s novel, Candide, sets on a journey of finding love and gaining
maturation, teaching readers that nothing is perfect, life is worth living nonetheless
(Academy). As Bildungsroman novels begin, readers are first introduced to a character
who is in their early stages of life, still yet to understand the world. Candide s naiveness
and innocence is emphasized through depictions of a child as he listened to his teaching
with that unhesitating faith which marked his age (Voltaire, 20). As children are often
characterized as curious beings, completely new to the reality of this world, Candide fits
perfectly into the description. He is raised in this sort of safe haven, Westphalia, isolated
from the dangers of the world. Candide has no reason to distrust anyone s teachings,
causing him to attentively listen to Pangloss s teachings and philosophy. Pangloss,
playing the role of the teacher in this Bildungsroman literary work, taught metaphysico
theologo cosmolo nigology (Voltaire, 20). Pangloss teaches the philosophy of complete
optimism and that every event that occurs, including the devastating happenings, is for
the best. This teaching is engraved into Candide s mind as he sets out on his journey of
finding his love, Cunegonde. Voltaire creates the character of Pangloss to symbolize the
Enlightenment thinkers holding the same

Bob Dylan: The Voice of a Generation No one is free, even the birds are chained to the

Ballad in Plain D . Dylan s powerful choice of words in all of the different genres of
music he produced allowed his audience to truly connect and get a feel for the stories
behind his lyrics. His fame quickly rose due to his style in music, that he soon became
recognized by millions and succeeded in making a multitude of musical
accomplishments. Known as a Civil Rights activist, Dylan took initiative in helping
guide America s society towards constructive change. Bob Dylan left a lasting impact on

A few of Dylan s most famous folk songs at the time were Song to Woody , Blowin in
the Wind , and Masters of War . He was influenced to write Song to Woody during his
time spent in folk clubs and coffeehouses of Greenwich Village, where he met a crowd
of other musicians similar to himself ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). This particular song was
written as a tribute to his ailing folk musician hero, Woody Guthrie. Moreover, Blowin in
the Wind is a song that was released in 1963 as a part of the album, The Freewheelin
Bob Dylan . According to Dissent Magazine, it was composed as a topical song that
reflected the country s overall mood (Dreier). Dylan allowed his music to be open for
the public to interpret freely. Masters of War is another folk song that contained deeper
meanings than what the lyrics simply suggested. Dylan tackled the theme of men in
power as he wrote this during the time of political change when John F. Kennedy came
into power. The genre of folk changed the face of music during the 1960s, influencing
Dylan s literature style.
Dylan s talents of having the ability to compose music in a variety of different genres
was evident through his country songs as well. According to editors Sara and Tom
Pendergast, He frustrated his fans over and over by refusing to stick with any one
musical style or personal philosophy ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). However, his compelling
music lyrics easily overpowered this frustration. Dylan s country songs were often based
Essay on Mccarthyism

McCarthyism was one of the saddest events of American history. It destroyed people s
lives and shattered many families. It threw innocent people into a whirlwind of mass
confusion and fictional portrayals of their lives. McCarthyism spawned for the country s
new found terror of Communism known as the red scare. McCarthyism was an extreme
version of the red scare, a scare whose ends did not justify the means. The Red Scare
happened twice in the history of this great country. When the communist took over
Russia in 1919, the American peoplewere unnerved. They were afraid of a communist

127) Fear is the most primal instinct. It causes people to do and act in certain ways in
which they are not accustomed. It can turn brother against brother, neighbor against
neighbor, politician against politician, and country against country. Fear instigates panic.
It was that panic that prompted the Palmer Raids. The Palmer Raids were started by A.
Mitchel Palmer. He felt that in order to keep the American values in tact communism
had to be out of the picture. Palmer believed that communism was amp;quot;eating its
way into the American workman amp;quot;. He thought it was the root of all evils in
his society. Palmer felt that communism was amp;quot;seeking to replace marriage
vows with libertine laws, burning up the foundations of society amp;quot;. In December
of 1919, in their most famous act, Palmer s agents seized 249 resident aliens. Those
seized were placed on board a ship, the Buford, bound for the Soviet Union. Deportees
included Emma Goldman the feminist, anarchist and writer who later recalled the
deportation in her autobiography. Another reason for the Red Scare was the strike held
by mine workers. They were thought to be making threatening moves against the
Capitalist system through subversive Socialist organizations. These strikes were part of a
series of events taking place in 1919. This strike,

Language Death Essay
Main Issues: The way in which our world functions today is a result of colonialization.
Language death and linguistic endangerment is woven with colonialization and the
history of oppression toward indigenous communities. We cannot speak of language
death without first acknowledging the speakers and the systematic oppression that
indigenous communities continue struggling to resist. In present time languageshifts due
to economic incentiveof hegemony and the mediating role of language ideologies are
two of the most important causes of language death. Language shift and language
ideologies that ultimately cause language death are current consequences of
colonialization. The death of a language has both of linguistic and cultural consequences
to the particular community affected and to the world s diversity as a whole. Languages
serve as carries of cultural knowledge, as identity and verbal art, hence when a language
is lost cultural resources, identity and verbal art are lost. One of the most important
causes of language death is language shifts due to economic incentives of hegemony. A
language shift is when people adopt the language of the hegemonic society replacing their
mother tongue in both their personal and professional lives (Mithum 1998:182). The shift
of language is motivated by the hope for economic prosper as hegemonic languages like
English and French dominate the economic market place. This language shift is also
understood through the terms of
Summary Of The Health Toll Of Immigration
In the article The Health Toll of Immigration by Sabrina Tavernise explains that
immigrants of Hispanic heritage live longer than American born persons of Hispanic
heritage. Many causes of this have been suspected such as smoking and drinking but
ultimately it is the American diet of fast food that seems to be the reason for poor
health (Tavernise 2013). Fast food was a luxury to some and to others it was a money
saver. Fast food is fast and cheap making it an easy stop for many families on the run.
The statistic is that Hispanic immigrants live 2.9 years longer than American born
Hispanics (Tavernise 2013). America s fast food diet has also been moving into Mexico.

Alvin Powell, the writes discusses health in equality in the United States with an
emphasis on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) program. With time life expectancy is
increasing for African Americans and the poor, albeit at a lower rate than for wealthy
people (Powell 2016, pg.2). Powell along with Ichiro Kawachi, a professor at Harvard

health in the United States. African American individuals and those in other minority
groups receive fewer procedures and poorer quality medical care than white individuals,

The Aboriginal People Of The Australian Aboriginal People
I.Introduction The Australian aboriginal peoples have the longest continuous cultural
history in the world. Archaeological evidence dates their presence in Australia back at
least 65,000 years (Barret). Dreaming is the English term for a set of beliefs that are
held by the Australian Aboriginal peoples. It is an inadequate term that does nothing to
encompass all that it really is. The Dreaming or Dream time deals with the past, present,
and future. `There are many different peoples and clans who are labeled Australian
Aboriginals. Over time, they have all been lumped together as one people even though
they have different beliefs, languages and customs. This is a disservice to them and all
who would try to understand them. Before Australia was colonized by British settlers, it
is estimated that there were about 500 different Aboriginal groups based on the number
of languages spoken (Broome). This number has been diminished but there are still many
different Aboriginal languages spoken today. The Arrernte people of Northern Australia
call Dreaming, Tjukurrpa which could be translated to see and understand the law
(Barret). Dreaming stories are the medium through which all important knowledge,
cultural values, and beliefs are passed on to later generations. The stories can be
expressed verbally, through oral tradition and songs, through dancing, and painting. It is
through Dreaming that Aboriginal peoples have been able to create and maintain a rich

Business Intelligence ( Bi ) And Business Analytics
Business intelligence (BI) and business analytics (BA) (sometimes used
interchangeably) has revolutionized the way businesses use data and can be
contrasted, for the purpose of this essay, in the following way: BI is raw data that has
been transformed into meaningful information that provides historical, current, and
predictive views of business operations and environment, and BA uses data and
statistical methods to provide actionable information for decision makers. BI explains
what is happening, identifies the issue, and provides decisions to be made and BA
explains why an issue is occurring, what will occur, and what actions need to be taken.
At the forefront of BI/BA technology is International Business Machines (IBM) with a
very broad array of related products and services. Among the more popular products are
its flagship analytics product IBM Cognos and its Predictive Customer Analytics. IBM s
Cognos Analytics allows business and IT professionals to prepare and distribute all types
of business reports from all departments with an organization and access pertinent
information such as financial reports, sales trends, production yields, and inventory on
any device on an hourly basis. IBM also offers a Predictive Customer Intelligence
solution, an integrated software which uses automation to acquire customer information
such as buying behavior, web activity, and social media presence to model and score
costumer behavior and provide customized actions so that a business

What Is The Relationship Of Obedience To His Law
Introduction
Throughout our lives obedience to Gods will in all areas of our life can be a struggle.
The people of ancient Israel stood as testament to this. However Gods promise to the
Israelites is seen in this passage promising his blessings if they stood true to his law.
This essay will explore the relationship between obedience to the law and Gods blessing
using Jacqueline Grey s Them, Us Me principle of looking at the bible.

The book of Deuteronomy was written while Israel was in a time of wandering the
wilderness due to disobedience. The 40 years of wandering were almost up and God
was re affirming the covenant and giving them the law that covered all areas of their
lives. Right near the end of this massive book of covenant law God promises in
Deuteronomy 28 to bless the Israelites if they obeyed whole heartedly.
For ancient Israel, blessing flowed from obedience to God. The blessings are listed in
the following verses after the excerpt and they cover all parts of their life. However the
fickleness of human strength showed them getting complacent and laidback living in the
blessing and disobeying the law. Through this they would spiral down into disobedience,
worshipping other gods to try and make up for the lack of Gods blessing but only being
cursed more. This would result in them eventually crying out to God and being obedient
again. This was a cycle that plagued Israel however Deuteronomy beautifully closes the

turns around so fast that Mr Woo can t comprehend what happening and misses Kent.
Kent: You are too slow Mr. Woo. Gotta move fast if you wanna catch me . Saying this
Kent runs towards the cart trying to open it. Suddenly he senses a lot of footsteps

it! I should have tied up Mr. Woo, so he couldn t sound the alarm. Kent allowed himself
only a moment of distress. Oh duh! He thinks. I pay attention to everything. Suddenly

Kent realizes proudly what it must be for. With a swift kick to the button on his right,
Kent enables automatic lock to the basement door. Now the goons will be locked out.

An Integrated Energy And Environmental Management
System...
The manager of an integrated energy and environmental management system is
responsible for allocating carbon emission treatment amount to each carbon emitter
within a multi period horizon. In a regional energy system, there are some limitations
for total emission amounts set up by the emission constraints in certain periods. If
carbon emission is larger than the emission target, the over limit part should be treated
by carbon mitigation facilities. In period k, carbon emission amounts should be no
more than the summation of carbon emission permit and the surplus credits from
previous period (k в€’1), in which surplus of emission credits are to be transferable to a
consecutive period (Li et al. 2012). Moreover, carbon emission inventory of different
emitters may vary from each period under the different operating condition, which can be
expressed as a random variable, the study system can be formulated through a MSP
approach. Thus, in a MSP model for carbon emission management system, the objective
is to maximize system benefits while satisfying the total carbon emission requirement.
Specifically, the economic objective can be formulated as follows: пј€1
aпј‰ where are
decision variables that are reflected in the objective function and determined by the
capacity of carbon capture measures.
During a certain period, there is a maximum limit for total carbon emission amount (1b)

Persuasive Essay On Capital Punishment
The United States will not conform to the amendments as provided in the United States
Constitution or provide the process for all of its citizens when they are in trial. The harsh
penalizations through the use of Capital Punishment should not be utilized in our judicial
system. For the past 50 years, there have been questions asked about one issue that we
just cannot get on board with. The idea of killing citizens had started to weigh heavily on
the conscience of humans. The debate on whether capital punishmentshould be a penalty
or not for those convicted of capital offenses remains one of the most controversial issues
in our country. This debate has stemmed from whether capital punishment is a violation
of the eighth amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Eighth amendment states
excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual
punishments inflicted (amend. XIII, sec.3). This amendment entails that no inhumane,
excessive, or unusual punishments should be inflicted upon a person as a penalty of the
violation of law (amend. XIII, sec. 3). This amendment questions the issues of The
Death Penalty; it is used less over the years, so why do we keep it around as a safety net,
and so called Deterrent, or to satisfy our own the idea of justice for the people (Alfano).
Another factor that has stimulated around the debate about capital punishment is the
number of wrongful convictions of those subjected to capital punishment. According to
Group Identity
The creation of a group identity means far more than placing a label on a number of
people with a universe for those who are members of the group and for non members
who affirm and recognize the group s existence. At the individual level identity is an
answer to the question who am I in relation to other people? At the social level it is a
response to the question: Who are we in relation to other human groups? (Mach
1993:4). Those who are in a group together are identified as being closer to the self of
one another while those outside the group are distanced from the self and become other.
In most cases, this self/other divide is minimal and the opposition of us and them is little
more than categories for us and not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps we can see the following five possibilities: (1) Narratives of national identity
can be approached by seeing them as a special case of the group defining story. (2)
Group defining stories can be highly patterned, having a distinctive genre and plot
structure, with all group members able to tell their group s story in much the same way.
(3) Narratives of national identity are a special case of the group defining story by virtue
of their particular exteriority and constraint, which is derivative from the police power of
nations. (4) Just as group membership confers meaning on individual lives, group
defining stories have an effect on stories of the self that is, on the individual
autobiographies of group members. When members are strongly identified with a group,
member s autobiographies may be expressed with the same narrative form that the group
story has. (5) The patterns of group defining narratives, genres among them, are not found
in stories alone, but also become part of the cognitive equipment of the members. The
way they function in cognition is as interpretive frameworks that tell what meaning can
be attached to events. In general, group defining narratives facilitate interpretation, or
allow particular events to be given a meaning, by supplying a particular shared context
within and with which they take on a determinate meaning.
The Aviation Branch Of The U.s. Army
The Aviation Branch of the U.S. Army, as we know it today, did not exist at the turn of
the 1800 to 1900 centuries. The military did use a Balloon Corps and Detachment for the
Civil and Spanish American Wars respectfully. However, the Army deactivated both
organizations after their usage in the campaigns. These artillery spotters and reconnoiters
were helpful. However, the leadership did not see a usage for them outside of war.
Therefore, it would take someone understanding the potential of air power to open a
door for its peacetime usage. This occurred with the birth of the Signal Corps.
The U.S. Army Signal Corps On July 1, 1891, congress established the U.S. Army
Signal Corps (Layman and Mooney, 1944, p. 2). Understanding the use of balloons in
prior wars, the Chief of the Signal Corps felt aviation was an activity that should fall
in his corps realm and he petitioned for congressional concurrence. The only issue was
congress would make no such acknowledgement. As early as 1892, the Signal Corps
began purchasing balloons (Fredriksen, 2011, p. 1). BG Gully and his successor as the
Chief of the Signal Corps, BG Allen, kept providing reports on the significance of
aviation operations to the military. Initially the gentlemen envisioned a means to
communicate being greatly enhanced. Two inventions at the turn of the century would
contribute to these beliefs but also make it hard for them to plead their case. With
telegraphy and airplanes both being invented,
The Social Security Problem By Max Moore Summary
Introduction In the essay, The Social Security Problem, published in Sticks and Stones
and Other Student Essays, Max Moore addresses the complex issue of Social Security
running out of funds. He also addresses the possible actions that can be taken in order
to provide a solution to this problem. Moore targets different audiences that are either
directly affected or in control of this depletion of funds. He uses credible evidence to
support his claims while also approaching the subject in a balanced and unbiased manner.
Moore wants Social Security to both raise the retirementage and raise taxes.
Summary
In The Social Security Problem , Max Moore discusses the fearful reality of Social
Security running out of funds. He states that the U.S. Department of the Treasury
predicts that Social Security funds will run out by 2041 and action must be taken in
order to prevent this (134). In his essay, he explains how the depletion of Social
Security funds are a result from a decreasing retirement age, decreasing fertility rate,
and shrinking work force. These things contribute to an increased population relying on
Social Security, an increased population of the elderly, and a decreased ratio of workers
paying for those beneficiaries (135). Moore explains the proposal of George W. Bushto
make Social Security partially privatized; allowing young workers to invest their
retirement savings into their own account. This would result in people putting their
retirement on the line in
Examples Of Narrative Techniques In The Thousand Faces

Narrative technique in GithaHariharan s The Thousand Faces of Night:
The word narrative is represent experimental and factorial skills, the subtle and every
day performance that is depicted by the writer. Her diction is pointed and the textures
communicated exquisite. In terms of techniques her writing is masterful. It is stated that,
in terms of technique, her writing contains expertise she could not write of an
experience but could animate it with sharp and vivid life. There is not a single flat
sentence in her book. Her narrative texture changes from scene to scene, taking on
chameleon life, the mind set of the characters being described as meaningful. The content
of GithaHariharan s novel is based on progressive ideas:

The story of The Thousand Faces of Night presents different generations of women
each representing her time and traditions. Another pattern of discourse analysis is
based on the study of conversation and dialogue. There are ample examples depicting
feminist ideas throughout the novel. In one of the passages it has been referred to that
she thought of the three of them, Mayamma, Sita and herself. Three of the women
who walked a tightrope and struggled for some balance, for some means of survival
they could fashion for themselves. GithaHariharan has depicted struggle suffered by
Indian women for their existence. Even Mayamma realizes that for a woman who
leaves her home in search of god, only death is the homecoming. Parvatiamma s son
Mahesh calls her irresponsible and a traitor. The author beautifully narrates at the novel
ends with a graphic description which is very meaningful: Suitcase in hand, Devi
opened the gate and looked wonderingly at the garden, wild and over grown, but lush in
spite of its sand choked roots. Then she quickened her footsteps as she heard the faint
sounds of a Veena, hesitant and childlike, inviting her into the house. Devi s character
has is representative of many complex issues of Indian society. Devi
The Texture And Light And Shading
A picture has much to say for those who look, and illustrations are no exceptions.
Every time we open a book of fairy tales, there is always an illustration dominating at
least a page within the text, as if to say I m here! Look at me! Look at what I have to
say about this story! An illustration can give us details and clues that we may miss in the
text, such as those concerning setting. The texture and light and shading can convey a
mood or an emotion, lending its depth to the text. As Hallet and Karasek said in
Illustrations, there can be no question but that pictures add one more dimension to the
various imaginative experiences of reading a tale, being read a tale, and being told a tale.
In short, an illustration, in context, is present to assist the reader s imagination and to
give more detail and depth to the story. Illustrations are useful tools within a text as they
give it more depth and add details readers may not notice without it. As the text
Illustrations states the encounter between the text and the reader s imagination is made
more complex by the contribution of the illustrator (Hallet and Karasek 139). Take, for
example, Rumpelstiltskin by the Brothers Grimm. The illustration that accompanies this
version depicts the meeting of Rumpelstiltskin and the miller s daughter. Her father had
lied to the king, claiming she possessed the talent to spin straw into gold. The king,
wanting to test this, locked the miller s daughter in a room filled
How Did The Wesley Brothers Come To The American
Revolution
It is diligently to be noted, the faith, which brings not forth repentance, and love
works,is not that right living faith which is here spoken of, but dead and devilish one.
John and Charles Wesley . The Formative Years The Wesley brothers had an interesting
journey to their ministry experience but they seem to have been in the will of God..
John Wesley was the first born in Epworth in Lincoln shire England in 1703 until he
died in 1791. His brother Charles was born some time later in 1707 until he died in 1788.
John and Charles Wesley are the founders of the United Methodist Church or movement.
Both John and Charles they had a transforming experience in 1738. during this time
Johns heart had become strangely warm and tender. During a prayer meeting in London.
Years following both brothers would go to have lively meetings that would ultimately
lead a renewal in the Church of England. The Methodist movement would spread this

Help of The Isle of Man and England to an Athletic...
Help of The Isle of Man and England to an Athletic Performer
The Isle of Man is closely linked with England in development and competitions of sport.
To get to the top of a sport is never easy so I am going to explain how the Isle of Man
and England help a performer in athletics to get from grass roots to elite.
For a performer to get to the top they will need help from the governing body of their
sport. The main governing bodies and agencies are responsible for helping athletics to
develop are:
* Sport England The governing body of sport in England. They help to raise standards
within sports and help improve facilities.

At current there is one major programme being run nationally through out primary
schools all over the country. The programme is called the Tops programme and is co
ordinated by the Youth Sport Trust, a governing body working for the development of
sport for children between the age of 3 and 14. The programmes are delivered as a
package including practical training to teachers and resources and are designed to
support the delivery of the national curriculum.
On the Island at present the MSR have provided all primary schools with only two of
these programmes. The Top Play and the Top Sport. These two programmes, yet very
helpful in the development of the children, don t give a spread of equality. As on the
Island there are some disabled athletes who have represented the Island in athletics but
have had to learn these events at a later date, as there was nothing for them during
primary school. Luckily in athletics though gender does not mater. The athletes may only
compete against others of the same gender but their events happen on the same days,
there isn t a men s Olympics and a women s Olympics. This means that athletes can train
together equally.

Essay on The Values, Ideals, and Actions of Fanny Fern
The Values, Ideals, and Actions of Fanny Fern
Literature from the 1820Гўs to the 1860Гўs brought attention to the expanse of the
American experience and gave rise to many unique voices. Some of the best writers of
this era challenged their fellow citizens to live up to the ideals that the founding fathers
had written into America s sacred documents. The voices that cast these challenges are
as varied and wide spread in their approach as this nation s natural boundaries are
diverse. Fanny Fern (1811 1872), was one of the writers who made a big splash with her
fearless unconventionality during this literary renaissance. Her masterful use of satire and
her belief that the ideal of individualism should include women, gained her ... Show more

She recorded her personal experiences in a autobiographical novel titled Ruth Hall. Like
the heroine in her novel, Fern overcame the poverty that her widowhood created by
writing articles for local newspapers. In a Franklinian fashion she rose from rags to riches.
When Fern embarked on her writing career, she was criticized for her style and subjects.
According to N.P. Willis, FernГўs brother, FernГўs writing was vulgar andВ·the style
was noisyВ·(White 2037). Some of this criticism remains relevant today. Although many
readers consider FernГўs style as human and spontaneous, some are bothered by all the
italics, dashes, and exclamation points. FernГўs allusions can also be confusing or dated
as in Peeps from under a Parasol (Fern 270). According to Joyce W. WarrenГ
ўs editing,
Peeps , a four and a half page essay, required nineteen explanatory notes! The majority
of the criticism Fern received from her contemporaries was aimed at her behavior and
voice as an unwomanly writer. As a woman she wasВ·not supposed to be angry or
satirical or to know about the dark side of life (Warren 343). In answer to these
criticisms, I believe Fern took to heart the wisdom in the essay by Ralph Waldo
Emerson, concerning self reliance: В· learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which
flashes across [oneГўs] mind from within, more than the lustre of the firmament of bards
and sages (Emerson 1622).
Case Study Of CCR And BCC Model
CCR and BCC models are used to measure the efficiency in a single stage. In order to

developed by Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry (1990). SERVQUAL built on their
comparison of two main factors, namely real customer perception of the services they
receive (Perceived Service) with actual services expected / desired (Expected Service).
If the reality is more than expected, the quality of service can be said, but if the reality
was less than expected, then the service is said to be inferior. If the same reality with

Visual Media, Allegorical Consciousness, and Postmodern...
Visual Media, Allegorical Consciousness, and Postmodern Culture
I think many of us would agree that we are living in an era of transition: generally, from
one phase of modernity to another; more specifically, it is harder to say. Let s ask
ourselves for a moment how this sense of change might guide the rhetorical study of
visual media. Of the many possible answers to this question, there are two I want to put
on the table.
The first consideration is that the study of visual media is likely to be occurring at all, or
in a particular form, because our society now is moving beyond those media to other
communication technologies. Here I am applying an observation from the history of
communication: We know that the study of the forms... Show more content on

Not surprisingly, the study of meaning quickly became articulated through terms such as
symbol that could work in both verbal and visual media, while subsequently verbal and
visual terms have become interchangeable as we referr to all manner of practices as
discourses and read a limitless range of artifacts, or at least gesture in that direction.
And now we find ourselves amidst the study of visual media, visual cultures, visual
literacy, etc. which is more, by the way, than previous investigations of the individual
visual arts, which always arise soon after their moment of origin. I can t help but
wonder if, once again, the study of communication is caught in a slightly retrograde
enterprise. Are we focusing on the visual because we are already under the influence
of a successor technology? If so, isn t it likely that our account of visual rhetorics is
itself already bearing the stamp of a post visual mode of perception or cognitive style,
or that if it is not, it won t last once such an account emerges? One more time: could it
be the successful account of visual media is likely to be the one that also works with its
successor medium? If so, then we need only specify that successor. To suggest how this
logic might play out, if the successor medium is interactive computing generally and the
internet/web practices currently, then our account of visual rhetorics will be likely to
feature interaction

The artwork depicts an adult tiger and its two cubs in the middle of a flowing stream. The parent wades in the water with one cub climbing on its back and the other swimming next to the adult. A few short stalks of bamboo sit to the right of the tigers, but otherwise, the background is very open and no land is shown. Through symbolism and elements such as line, value, and space, Kano s Tiger Fording Stream with Cubs portrays the idea that softness and affection can be found in even the strongest and fiercest of beings. • 5. Free Essay Speaking of drunk, I have wine in my room. Shall we indulge? I ve never seen you have more than a few sips, Maxen. He propped himself up on his elbows and kissed her. I will drink. Let me dress and fetch the bottle. He hopped out of bed, and Audra admired his magnificent, muscular backside with a satisfied smile on her face and he slipped into his trousers, but the spotted a smear of blood on his lower arm. Maxen, you re still bleeding. Nothing to worry about. He dragged his tunic over his head and glanced over his shoulder at her. But oh... What? I ve gotten my blood all over that pretty face of yours. Maxen sat on the bed beside Audra, licked his thumb, and scrubbed the dried blood from her face. Then he leaned down and kissed her. I don t want to stop kissing you or touching you, he said. I think we can break for refreshment. He let out a playful growl. I don t want to, but I will. After giving Audra another long kiss, he rose and padded from the room, and Audra stretched out in the bed. She was relaxed and in love, and she pushed away any feelings of guilt. Those could be managed later. During this week, Maxen would be the husband of her heart, and if the gods saw fit to strike her down for her transgressions, it would all be worth it. Maxen s quiet footsteps padded back to the room; however, an unfamiliar voice spoke just outside the chamber door. Sir Knight, would you and the queen care to share in the festivities downstairs? You are most welcome.

  • 7. Literary Criticism Of Candide Voltaire had once said I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. This quote itself is representative of who Voltaire was, a man who was vocal and an activist. Born in 1694, Voltaire was set out to become a well known writer and contributor to the Enlightenment. Voltairehad written many books, but his most well known novel was Candide. This book was written as a satirical response to the philosophy of complete optimism championed by scholars, particularly Philosopher Leibniz. Throughout this novel, Voltaire utilizes the literary genre of Bildungsromanto set a framework for criticizing Leibniz s philosophy. Bildungsroman novels are characterized by the development of a young person...attempting to learn the nature of the world (Hofeditz). The main rites of passage are: birth, the teacher, love, and marriage. The main character in Voltaire s novel, Candide, sets on a journey of finding love and gaining maturation, teaching readers that nothing is perfect, life is worth living nonetheless (Academy). As Bildungsroman novels begin, readers are first introduced to a character who is in their early stages of life, still yet to understand the world. Candide s naiveness and innocence is emphasized through depictions of a child as he listened to his teaching with that unhesitating faith which marked his age (Voltaire, 20). As children are often characterized as curious beings, completely new to the reality of this world, Candide fits perfectly into the description. He is raised in this sort of safe haven, Westphalia, isolated from the dangers of the world. Candide has no reason to distrust anyone s teachings, causing him to attentively listen to Pangloss s teachings and philosophy. Pangloss, playing the role of the teacher in this Bildungsroman literary work, taught metaphysico theologo cosmolo nigology (Voltaire, 20). Pangloss teaches the philosophy of complete optimism and that every event that occurs, including the devastating happenings, is for the best. This teaching is engraved into Candide s mind as he sets out on his journey of finding his love, Cunegonde. Voltaire creates the character of Pangloss to symbolize the Enlightenment thinkers holding the same

He was influenced to write Song to Woody during his time spent in folk clubs and coffeehouses of Greenwich Village, where he met a crowd of other musicians similar to himself ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). This particular song was written as a tribute to his ailing folk musician hero, Woody Guthrie. Moreover, Blowin in the Wind is a song that was released in 1963 as a part of the album, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan . According to Dissent Magazine, it was composed as a topical song that reflected the country s overall mood (Dreier). Dylan allowed his music to be open for the public to interpret freely. Masters of War is another folk song that contained deeper meanings than what the lyrics simply suggested. Dylan tackled the theme of men in power as he wrote this during the time of political change when John F. Kennedy came into power. The genre of folk changed the face of music during the 1960s, influencing Dylan s literature style. Dylan s talents of having the ability to compose music in a variety of different genres was evident through his country songs as well. According to editors Sara and Tom Pendergast, He frustrated his fans over and over by refusing to stick with any one musical style or personal philosophy ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). However, his compelling music lyrics easily overpowered this frustration. Dylan s country songs were often based

It can turn brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor, politician against politician, and country against country. Fear instigates panic. It was that panic that prompted the Palmer Raids. The Palmer Raids were started by A. Mitchel Palmer. He felt that in order to keep the American values in tact communism had to be out of the picture. Palmer believed that communism was amp;quot;eating its way into the American workman amp;quot;. He thought it was the root of all evils in his society. Language death and linguistic endangerment is woven with colonialization and the history of oppression toward indigenous communities. We cannot speak of language death without first acknowledging the speakers and the systematic oppression that indigenous communities continue struggling to resist. In present time languageshifts due to economic incentiveof hegemony and the mediating role of language ideologies are two of the most important causes of language death. Language shift and language ideologies that ultimately cause language death are current consequences of colonialization. The death of a language has both of linguistic and cultural consequences to the particular community affected and to the world s diversity as a whole. Languages serve as carries of cultural knowledge, as identity and verbal art, hence when a language is lost cultural resources, identity and verbal art are lost. One of the most important causes of language death is language shifts due to economic incentives of hegemony. A language shift is when people adopt the language of the hegemonic society replacing their mother tongue in both their personal and professional lives (Mithum 1998:182). The shift of language is motivated by the hope for economic prosper as hegemonic languages like English and French dominate the economic market place. • 14. The Aboriginal People Of The Australian Aboriginal People I.Introduction The Australian aboriginal peoples have the longest continuous cultural history in the world. Archaeological evidence dates their presence in Australia back at least 65,000 years (Barret). Dreaming is the English term for a set of beliefs that are held by the Australian Aboriginal peoples. It is an inadequate term that does nothing to encompass all that it really is. The Dreaming or Dream time deals with the past, present, and future. `There are many different peoples and clans who are labeled Australian Aboriginals. Over time, they have all been lumped together as one people even though they have different beliefs, languages and customs. This is a disservice to them and all who would try to understand them. Before Australia was colonized by British settlers, it is estimated that there were about 500 different Aboriginal groups based on the number of languages spoken (Broome). This number has been diminished but there are still many different Aboriginal languages spoken today. The Arrernte people of Northern Australia call Dreaming, Tjukurrpa which could be translated to see and understand the law (Barret). Dreaming stories are the medium through which all important knowledge, cultural values, and beliefs are passed on to later generations. The stories can be expressed verbally, through oral tradition and songs, through dancing, and painting. It is through Dreaming that Aboriginal peoples have been able to create and maintain a rich cultural

The people of ancient Israel stood as testament to this. However Gods promise to the Israelites is seen in this passage promising his blessings if they stood true to his law. This essay will explore the relationship between obedience to the law and Gods blessing using Jacqueline Grey s Them, Us Me principle of looking at the bible. Them The book of Deuteronomy was written while Israel was in a time of wandering the wilderness due to disobedience. The 40 years of wandering were almost up and God was re affirming the covenant and giving them the law that covered all areas of their lives. Right near the end of this massive book of covenant law God promises in Deuteronomy 28 to bless the Israelites if they obeyed whole heartedly. For ancient Israel, blessing flowed from obedience to God. The blessings are listed in the following verses after the excerpt and they cover all parts of their life. However the fickleness of human strength showed them getting complacent and laidback living in the blessing and disobeying the law. Through this they would spiral down into disobedience, worshipping other gods to try and make up for the lack of Gods blessing but only being cursed more. This would result in them eventually crying out to God and being obedient again. This was a cycle that plagued Israel however Deuteronomy beautifully closes the Pentateuch ...with its constant reminders

The manager of an integrated energy and environmental management system is responsible for allocating carbon emission treatment amount to each carbon emitter within a multi period horizon. In a regional energy system, there are some limitations for total emission amounts set up by the emission constraints in certain periods. If carbon emission is larger than the emission target, the over limit part should be treated by carbon mitigation facilities. In period k, carbon emission amounts should be no more than the summation of carbon emission permit and the surplus credits from previous period (k в€’1), in which surplus of emission credits are to be transferable to a consecutive period (Li et al. 2012). Moreover, carbon emission inventory of different emitters may vary from each period under the different operating condition, which can be expressed as a random variable, the study system can be formulated through a MSP approach. Thus, in a MSP model for carbon emission management system, the objective is to maximize system benefits while satisfying the total carbon emission requirement. Persuasive Essay On Capital Punishment The United States will not conform to the amendments as provided in the United States Constitution or provide the process for all of its citizens when they are in trial. The harsh penalizations through the use of Capital Punishment should not be utilized in our judicial system. For the past 50 years, there have been questions asked about one issue that we just cannot get on board with. The idea of killing citizens had started to weigh heavily on the conscience of humans. The debate on whether capital punishmentshould be a penalty or not for those convicted of capital offenses remains one of the most controversial issues in our country. This debate has stemmed from whether capital punishment is a violation of the eighth amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Eighth amendment states excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted (amend. XIII, sec.3). This amendment entails that no inhumane, excessive, or unusual punishments should be inflicted upon a person as a penalty of the violation of law (amend. XIII, sec. 3). This amendment questions the issues of The Death Penalty; it is used less over the years, so why do we keep it around as a safety net, and so called Deterrent, or to satisfy our own the idea of justice for the people (Alfano). Another factor that has stimulated around the debate about capital punishment is the number of wrongful convictions of those subjected to capital punishment. According to

At the individual level identity is an answer to the question who am I in relation to other people? At the social level it is a response to the question: Who are we in relation to other human groups? (Mach 1993:4). Those who are in a group together are identified as being closer to the self of one another while those outside the group are distanced from the self and become other. Perhaps we can see the following five possibilities: (1) Narratives of national identity can be approached by seeing them as a special case of the group defining story. (2) Group defining stories can be highly patterned, having a distinctive genre and plot structure, with all group members able to tell their group s story in much the same way. (3) Narratives of national identity are a special case of the group defining story by virtue of their particular exteriority and constraint, which is derivative from the police power of nations. (4) Just as group membership confers meaning on individual lives, group defining stories have an effect on stories of the self that is, on the individual autobiographies of group members. When members are strongly identified with a group, member s autobiographies may be expressed with the same narrative form that the group story has. (5) The patterns of group defining narratives, genres among them, are not found in stories alone, but also become part of the cognitive equipment of the members. The way they function in cognition is as interpretive frameworks that tell what meaning can be attached to events. In general, group defining narratives facilitate interpretation, or allow particular events to be given a meaning, by supplying a particular shared context within and with which they take on a determinate meaning.

The military did use a Balloon Corps and Detachment for the Civil and Spanish American Wars respectfully. However, the Army deactivated both organizations after their usage in the campaigns. These artillery spotters and reconnoiters were helpful. However, the leadership did not see a usage for them outside of war. Therefore, it would take someone understanding the potential of air power to open a door for its peacetime usage. This occurred with the birth of the Signal Corps. The U.S. Army Signal Corps On July 1, 1891, congress established the U.S. Army Signal Corps (Layman and Mooney, 1944, p. 2). Understanding the use of balloons in prior wars, the Chief of the Signal Corps felt aviation was an activity that should fall in his corps realm and he petitioned for congressional concurrence. The only issue was congress would make no such acknowledgement. As early as 1892, the Signal Corps began purchasing balloons (Fredriksen, 2011, p. 1). BG Gully and his successor as the Chief of the Signal Corps, BG Allen, kept providing reports on the significance of aviation operations to the military. Moore targets different audiences that are either directly affected or in control of this depletion of funds. He uses credible evidence to support his claims while also approaching the subject in a balanced and unbiased manner. Moore wants Social Security to both raise the retirementage and raise taxes. Summary In The Social Security Problem , Max Moore discusses the fearful reality of Social Security running out of funds. He states that the U.S. Department of the Treasury predicts that Social Security funds will run out by 2041 and action must be taken in order to prevent this (134). In his essay, he explains how the depletion of Social Security funds are a result from a decreasing retirement age, decreasing fertility rate, and shrinking work force. These things contribute to an increased population relying on Social Security, an increased population of the elderly, and a decreased ratio of workers paying for those beneficiaries (135). Moore explains the proposal of George W. Bushto make Social Security partially privatized; allowing young workers to invest their retirement savings into their own account. Every time we open a book of fairy tales, there is always an illustration dominating at least a page within the text, as if to say I m here! Look at me! Look at what I have to say about this story! An illustration can give us details and clues that we may miss in the text, such as those concerning setting. The texture and light and shading can convey a mood or an emotion, lending its depth to the text. As Hallet and Karasek said in Illustrations, there can be no question but that pictures add one more dimension to the various imaginative experiences of reading a tale, being read a tale, and being told a tale. In short, an illustration, in context, is present to assist the reader s imagination and to give more detail and depth to the story. Illustrations are useful tools within a text as they give it more depth and add details readers may not notice without it. As the text Illustrations states the encounter between the text and the reader s imagination is made more complex by the contribution of the illustrator (Hallet and Karasek 139). When Fern embarked on her writing career, she was criticized for her style and subjects. According to N.P. Willis, FernГўs brother, FernГўs writing was vulgar andВ·the style was noisyВ·(White 2037). Some of this criticism remains relevant today. Although many readers consider FernГўs style as human and spontaneous, some are bothered by all the italics, dashes, and exclamation points. FernГўs allusions can also be confusing or dated as in Peeps from under a Parasol (Fern 270). According to Joyce W. WarrenГ ўs editing, Peeps , a four and a half page essay, required nineteen explanatory notes! The majority of the criticism Fern received from her contemporaries was aimed at her behavior and voice as an unwomanly writer. As a woman she wasВ·not supposed to be angry or satirical or to know about the dark side of life (Warren 343). In answer to these criticisms, I believe Fern took to heart the wisdom in the essay by Ralph Waldo Emerson, concerning self reliance: В· learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across [oneГўs] mind from within, more than the lustre of the firmament of bards and sages (Emerson 1622).

In order to explore the series relationship between the two stage of production process or value chain. (ZhuoFan Yang, 2014) 1.2 Kao and Hwang (KH) Model Kao and Hwang (KH) Model proposed a two stage DEA model where it is necessary for the weights associated with zdj to be the same. Their model for measuring the overall efficiency of DMUk. Kao and Hwang Model developed a different approach where the overall efficiency of the system can be decomposed into The product of the efficiencies of the two stages. 2.BSC Model 3.SERVQUAL Model SERVQUAL Model (Service Quality) developed by Parasuraman, Zeithaml, and Berry (1990). SERVQUAL built on their comparison of two main factors, namely real customer perception of the services they receive (Perceived Service) with actual services expected / desired (Expected Service). If the reality is more than expected, the quality of service can be said, but if the reality was less than expected, then the service is said to be inferior. If the same reality with expectations then the service satisfactory.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. Visual Media, Allegorical Consciousness, and Postmodern... Visual Media, Allegorical Consciousness, and Postmodern Culture I think many of us would agree that we are living in an era of transition: generally, from one phase of modernity to another; more specifically, it is harder to say. Let s ask ourselves for a moment how this sense of change might guide the rhetorical study of visual media. Of the many possible answers to this question, there are two I want to put on the table. The first consideration is that the study of visual media is likely to be occurring at all, or in a particular form, because our society now is moving beyond those media to other communication technologies. Here I am applying an observation from the history of communication: We know that the study of the forms... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not surprisingly, the study of meaning quickly became articulated through terms such as symbol that could work in both verbal and visual media, while subsequently verbal and visual terms have become interchangeable as we referr to all manner of practices as discourses and read a limitless range of artifacts, or at least gesture in that direction. And now we find ourselves amidst the study of visual media, visual cultures, visual literacy, etc. which is more, by the way, than previous investigations of the individual visual arts, which always arise soon after their moment of origin. I can t help but wonder if, once again, the study of communication is caught in a slightly retrograde enterprise. Are we focusing on the visual because we are already under the influence of a successor technology? If so, isn t it likely that our account of visual rhetorics is itself already bearing the stamp of a post visual mode of perception or cognitive style, or that if it is not, it won t last once such an account emerges? One more time: could it be the successful account of visual media is likely to be the one that also works with its successor medium? If so, then we need only specify that successor. To suggest how this logic might play out, if the successor medium is interactive computing generally and the internet/web practices currently, then our account of visual rhetorics will be likely to feature interaction
